A Day At Martin High School
It was a rainy day At Martin High School. The lightning zapped and the thunder boomed. The first bell
rang it was time for homeroom. HOMEROOM, the sound echoed in my head. I hated homeroom. The
biggest, meanest, nastiest bully was there, Larry. I hated Larry. He was always after me! Stealing my
lunch money and pounding me to a pulp. I made it to homeroom just fine avoiding Larry. Mrs. Ronald

people gasping at once sounds pretty cool, well for me it did anyways. Nobody had to ask who did this
or what happened. They knew exactly what happened. as well did the teacher, but the principal never
helped. It seemed as if the principal was telling Larry to do this evil stuff and Larry was a robot.
It seemed plausible. But nobody has made a robot so sophisticated yet. While these thoughts were
running through my head I missed more than half of what we were learning today. I snapped back to
attention when the teacher snapped Turd Ferguson where was the clay army found I thought, oh crap!

Agriculture is a 71 billion dollar industry in the state of Georgia alone as of 2014, according to the
Georgia Farm Bureau s website (web. August 16,2016). According to the USDA s website, the United

How Does Laurie Halse Anderson Use Allusions In Speak
On a dark august night, Melinda and Rachel went to an end of summer party. Feeling out of place,
Melinda resorted to drinking. Once she took a step out, she was confronted and assaulted by a senior
named Andy Evans. Melinda felt small and just wanted to say no but the words couldn t find their way
out. That was the night that Melinda got raped. Melinda s conflict with herself continues as she tries to
overcome the events of that night. In the realistic fiction novel Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, the
author uses symbolism and allusions to show how Melinda struggles to overcome the rape throughout
the novel. Symbolism is widely used in Speak to suggest something more of an object. Colors are big
symbols as they convey Melinda s thoughts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To illustrate this, Anderson compares Melinda to a dryad (p.17). Dryads originate from Greek
mythology and it is the female spirit of a tree. The life of a dryad is connected to a tree. Dryads also
tend to be shy creatures. Metaphorically, the author is trying to imply that teenagers are in the stage of
development and growth, just like plants. Melinda is still growing and overcoming her rape. Anderson
also makes allusions to literature to compare and contrast Melinda s story to stories of other
characters. To exemplify, Maya Angelou is mentioned quite frequently. In her novel I know why the
caged bird sings, (p.50) she writes about how she was raped by Mr. Freeman. She can t talk and is
helped by someone with a name of a plant. Anderson uses irony since in the novel Speak, Mr.
Freeman is the one who helps Melinda grow. Also, metaphorically comparing Angelou and Maya, we
can foreshadow what happens next (the rape). When Melinda finds her closet, she discovers a
shattered mirror which symbolizes her past and she tries to cover it up with a picture of Maya Angelou
(which is not better.) The poster which symbolizes her rape and secrets doesn t help Melinda grow.
Another example would be The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. (p.100) Melinda mentions
[Hester] is kind of quiet. We would get along. (p.101) Melinda is comparing herself to Hester Prynne,
a character in Hawthorne s novel who has to wear a red letter A to mark her guilt. Both Melinda and
Hester feel like outcasts and are a shame in society. Anderson also uses allusions by mentioning the
suffragettes (p.154). The suffragettes were people who stood up against unfair treatment of women. To
get extra credit, Melinda has to write a report and present it to the class. Being that Melinda doesn t
speak, she and David Petrakis, her lab partner, make a plan. Instead of talking, Melinda gives

Social activities are the most fundamental behaviors for many animal species to survive and require
memory formation. Particularly, patients with autistic spectrum disorders (ASD) exhibit several core
symptoms, including impaired social activities and repetitive behaviors, often combed with
intellectual disability (ID). Memory formation entails new protein synthesis from mRNAs stored at
the synapses responding to local stimuli. Neuronal transcripts interact with various mRNA binding
proteins (RBPs) and the RBPs ensure the targeted mRNAs to be translated only when receiving proper
environmental signals. Significant accomplishments have identified over 1000 RNA binding proteins
(RBPs) crucial for accurate post transcriptional RNA processing. ... Show more content on

Our group is in the ideal position to address these problems. We are the first group to demonstrate that
the EJC factor, RBM8a, regulates anxiety like behaviors and neuronal plasticity1. We have developed
the RBM8a conditional knockout (cKO) mice and our preliminary data demonstrated that region
specific knockout of RBM8a impairs social interaction and affect fear memory. Additionally, RNAseq
uncovered that RBM8a modulates a large set of genes overlapping with autism risk genes, which are
involved in neurotransmission and synaptic plasticity. However, current knowledge gaps include how
RBM8a regulates memory and synapse development, which physiological neuronal substrates are
directly regulated by RBM8a in vivo during learning behaviors, and what happens to these transcripts
when the RBM8a level is altered. Our hypothesis is that RBM8a regulates activity dependent neuronal
plasticity and controls specific pools of transcripts in neurons that are activated by social interaction
and learning activities. Building on a novel discovery of an essential role of RBM8a in social
recognition, our goal in this proposal is to identify targets that are most relevant for RBM8a dependent
neuronal defects and determine the effect on RNA substrates of RBM8a in the brain. To achieve this
goal, the following aims will be

Case Study: Jules Ferry
1. According to Ferry, what recent developments in world trade have made it urgent for France to have
colonies?
As an imperialist, Jules Ferry felt that France should be exploring and taking over new nations. He
claimed colonial expansion was a great need that had become extremely urgent by the people and
industrialized population of Europe (Kleinman, 1897). He stated that other countries, United States
and Germany, were exporting so much more than France was. Jules Ferry compiled a report of
statistics with his perspective of that great need for colonial expansion (Kleinman, 1897). This report

If not acted on or taken precautions against, North American goods will overcome the South American
market that belonged to France first. All of this is connected to colonial policy.
2. What arguments against imperialism have been raised by Ferry s critics? How does he counter
them?
Jules Ferry believed it was the job of superior races to civilize the lesser races (Kleinman, 1897). He
claims when the Spanish and Explorers introduced slavery to Central America it was a
misunderstanding and their job as a superior race was not accomplished (Kleinman, 1897). That
statement made it seem like he was trying to justify slavery but he circumvented this by repeating that
it was the rights of the superior races to control the inferior ones. But, in our time, I maintain that
European nations acquit themselves with generosity and with sincerity of this superior civilizing duty
(Kleinman, 1897, para. 4) .
3. What non economic arguments does Ferry offer in favor of imperialism?
The non economic arguments presented by Ferry in favor of imperialism was; the need for shelters,
places of supply for markets to sell France s goods and ports for defense and provisioning for boats to
have a safe harbor. The ports for boats were needed because ships were limited on the supplies they
could carry, like coal, which is paramount to keep moving. A warship, however perfect its design,
cannot carry more than two weeks supply of coal and a vessel without

Saul Bellow Response essay
In Saul Bellow s essay, Hidden Within Technology s Kingdom, a Republic of Letters, he reveals to us
that by the 1930 s the media was beginning to make the written word obsolete.
Most of Americans are losing their since of literature. Bellow tells us of how Oswald Spengler, one of
the most widely read authors of the early 30s, taught that our tired old civilization was very nearly
finished. His advice to the young was to avoid literature and the arts and to embrace mechanization
and become engineers. Shocked by Oswald Spengler conclusion Bellow refused to me obsolete. He
had faced the challenge and defied the evolutionist historians. A few years later, in an issue of The
Wall Street Journal, Bellow came upon an old ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 2002, only 52 percent of Americans ages 18 to 24, the college years, read a book voluntarily, down
from 59 percent in 1992. Money spent on books dropped 14 percent from 1985 to 2005 and has fallen
dramatically since the mid 1990s. The number of adults with bachelor s degrees and proficient
in reading prose dropped from 40 percent in 1992 to 31 percent in 2003.
I believe that print media will soon become obsolete if it is not already obsolete. There are billions of
cell phone users worldwide. It is much easier for them to get the bulk of their news and information
online. Why would they go to a store to buy a newspaper or magazine, when all they have to do is turn
on a cell phone? I believe with the advent of tablets and e readers, there will be a time that print media
is obsolete. I already find that anytime I am required to print something, I am shocked that in 2013 we
can t have an e solution. With newspapers dying by the day, I think that e media will be the thing left
standing. What motivates us to read? Interest, engagement in the topic, desire to understand, having
the choice and recommendation of those we trust leads us to a book. How often do we take the path
less traveled instead of turning on a computer or the television?
What might our society lose if people read fewer books? We may be slowly evolving to be less

Jean Valjean´s feelings toward Marius goes from hatred to love in the time that he knows him. At first
Jean was angered with Marius because he could see that Cosette and Marius were taking a liking into
each other. This angered Jean Valjean because he was afraid that he was going to lose his daughter
Cosette which would be devastating for him. Jean Valjean began to realize that Cosette was unhappy
without Marius which I believe is the reason he decided to save Marius by taking him through the

Self-Hatred
Self Hatred
If you had a person in your life treating you the way you treat yourself, you would have gotten rid of
them a long time ago... states Cheri Huber. Self hatred is one of the most detrimental emotions one can
harbor. It is defined as a great and overwhelming dislike and aversion to oneself. Once one starts to
accept those feelings, they are headed down a dark path. One way that they are pushed even further
down that path is when it is verbally secured by another person, causing the hating person to feel even
worse. This is similarly mixed with the emotion of self anger, but it is very different. Anger is an
emotion defined as a feeling of displeasure. Self hatred is so much more than that. It affects our brain

The result of this experimenting can be permanent brain damage or even extreme blood loss, affecting
not only the heart, but other major organs as well. Healthy body is key in the recovery of a sick
person. Once they have decided that their personal health is not worth maintaining, they have decided
that they are beyond saving, or that they don t care enough about their body because they are not
worth it. This is when one enters the mindset of a suicidal being.
Suicide can be defined as the intentional taking of one s life. This is when the person has gone beyond
help and is not able to even listen to reason. When the person in question has started having suicidal
thoughts, they will not cease experimental methods until something they wish be done is

I wanted to kill the me underneath. That fact haunted my days and nights. When you realize you hate

hard to avoid that realization; it will try, in a last ditch effort to keep your remaining parts alive, to
remake the rest of you. This is, I believe, different from the suicidal wish of those who are in so much
pain that death feels like relief, different from the suicide I would later attempt, trying to escape that
pain. This is a wish to murder yourself; the

The Effects Of Classical Conditioning On Operant Conditioning
Abstract
Reinstatement is a phenomenon that describes the return of an extinguished response following
presentation of the US in classical conditioning (Bouton Nelson, 1998). This phenomenon is
dependent upon experimental context, as context promotes an association between the CS and US
(Bouton, 2004). A lever pressing response was trained in rats to study the context dependency of
extinction and reinstatement in operant conditioning. The current study demonstrates that
reinstatement occurs in operant conditioning, and remains context dependent, as reinstatement only
occurred when subjects were presented with a reinforcer following extinction and were kept in the
same context for all experimental phases.
Reinstatement of an Extinguished Response is Context Dependent in Operant Conditioning
Learning processes by which stimulus specific behaviours are developed have been studied in great
depth in recent psychological literature. One such process is that of classical conditioning; the
presentation of an unconditioned stimulus (US) e.g. food, with a conditioned stimulus (CS) e.g. a tone,
that will elicit a response (UR), e.g. salivation. Following repeated simultaneous exposure to the CS
and US, the subject will eventually exhibit a response (CR) in the presence of the CS alone (Bouton
Nelson, 1998). However, the behaviours learned during classical conditioning can be removed in the
extinction phenomenon; withdrawal of the US, so that a response to the CS is no

Health And Drug Administration Of The Health Care Setting
Work Place Distractions Lead to Deadly Outcomes Effective Ways to Reduce Medication Errors in the
Health Care Setting Lincoln University Suzanne Norman Ybarra One of the greatest fears of any nurse
is harming or killing a patient by making a critical medication error. The U.S. Food and Drug
Administration reports that a person dies accidently every day from a medication error and
approximately 1.3 million sustain an injury from medication errors (U.S. Food and Drug

In an effort to reduce the occurrence of medication errors, JHACO has thoroughly investigated and
implemented new safety standards of care. JHACO implemented a new standard referred to as the 10
Rights of Drug Administration. 1. The Right Drug, 2. Right Patient, 3. Right Dose, 4. Right Route, 5.
Right Time and Frequency, 6. Right Documentation, 7. Right History and Assessment, 8. Drug
approach and Right to Refuse, 9. Right Drug to Drug Interaction and Evaluation, and 10. Right
Education and Information. Failure to follow the 10 Rights of Medication Administration can result in
a patient s injury or death (Potter, Perry, Hall, Stockert, 2013). Further research in safety has proven
that reviewing the physicians order three times significantly reduced transcribing errors or entering the
order incorrectly into the electronic medical record. Training new nurses and experienced nurses to
review every order three times has shown beneficial in patient safety and has reduced medication
errors. Nurses and medical staff involved in medication administration are encouraged to have a
buddy system, where there are two nurses or trained staff members who double check all medication
calculations and assist with verifying high risk medication dosages. When there is a discrepancy
concerning any medication administration, a Stop, Think and Call policy is implemented and the
medication is held until proper documentation and verification have been obtained.

William Butler Yeats The Second Coming
In William Butler Yeats The Second Coming, the poet makes phrases such as; the best lack of
conviction of stony sleep (19) and the falcon cannot hear the falconer (2). The phrases are useful in
suggesting various thematic concerns of the poem as well asserting separation of ideas and events that
occur during the time when Yeats is writing his work. Different interpretations of the stanzas may
bring a connection of the antagonism of people and events that Yeats foresees. For instance, the falcon
separates from the falconer, the lion having the head of a human being (sphinx) and things falling
apart indicate contradicting forces that work to build history at the time. The analysis of the poem is
on the basis of contradicting forces that separate modernity from the ancient world. Yeats introduces
the poem by referring to a falcon that flies away from the falconer who happens to release it.
Shockingly, the falcon cannot hear its master but it continues wheeling at far distance from the
falconer. The separation between the falcon and the falconer presents a metaphorical incidence that is
worth to interpret. For instance, it is possible that the disassociation represent the young ones, acting
as falcons, and separate themselves from the old order of the society. Notably, the modern children
may be adopting new societal principles different from the ones that their parents and grandparents
prescribe during the Yeats time. Such societal engagements may touch on music, new

Fortinbras Laertes And Hamlet Comparison
In William Shakespeare s tragedy Hamlet , Fortinbras, Laertes, and Hamlet find themselves in very
similar situations. They all had love and respect for their father s and felt the need to avenge their
unjustified deaths. However, there are differences between them. The character of Fortinbras was the
only one to accomplish his goal and become king of Denmark in the end. Shakespeare s comment
through Fortinbras as a man of action, allowed the audience to see that he acts rather than thinks.
Hamlet is portrayed as weak and indecisive. When he is confronted with meeting the ghost of his
father and asked to avenge his death, he quickly agrees to the revenge and comes up with a plan to
fool everyone into thinking he is crazy. However, he is seen as a man who does not act, with his
inability to make decisions or quick actions does not help his plan of revenge.

The Effect Of Milk And Milk Of Magnesia On Seed Germination
Background
A seed is the plants way of reproducing and allows the plant to produce plants of the same kind. A
seed is a developing plant that is bounded by a seed coat that covers the seed and usually has stored
food and nutrients inside. Seeds allow the plant to reproduce so they don t become extinct. Radish
seeds are rapid growing seeds that grow best in full sunlight with their own space, soil with a pH level
of 6.5 7, water with a pH level of 7, and cool/moist soil. Lemonade has a pH level of 2.5 and is acidic,
so the seed most likely will grow at a very slow rate compared to a seed with normal tap water. Milk
of magnesia has a pH level of 10.5 which is more basic and higher than the pH level of water, the
substance radish seeds grow best in. Therefore, the milk of magnesia might be too strong for the seeds
and will cause them to either grow extremely slow or not at all. The effect of lemonade and milk of
magnesia on seed germination can be measured by using a ruler and measuring the sprout growth of
each seed in centimeters daily.
Question
Will lemonade and milk of magnesia affect radish seed germination and growth?
Hypothesis
If I have 5ml of lemonade and 5ml of milk of magnesia and dilute each liquid with 5ml of tap water
and apply each solution twice to ten radish seeds, I believe the seeds will grow at a slower rate than
radish seeds with 10ml of tap water.
Materials
30 radish seeds Paper Towels
3 Petri dishes (Top and bottom)

David Ortiz Thesis
David Ortiz David Ortiz is not only considered one of the best hispanic baseball players of all time,
but is also considered to be one of the best baseball players in Major League Baseball History. For
many he is considered to be the best Boston Red Sox player ever. David Ortiz has had a longer career
than most players, playing a total of twenty Major League Baseball seasons. Ortiz finished his career
with 541 home runs, which ranks 17th on the MLB all time home run list, 1,768 RBIs which is 22nd
all time, and a .286 batting average. Among the primary position that he played, designated hitter, he
is the all time leader in MLB history for home runs, runs batted in, and hits (MLB, 2018). To top it off,

Ortiz is the eldest of four children and has always been known as an easy going person, with a great
sense of humor that makes friends everywhere he goes. Ortiz started playing baseball as soon as he
started walking. However, it was safe to say that he had baseball in his blood before he was even born.
His father, Americo Enrique Ortiz, was a semi pro and professional player in the Dominican Republic,
and he became a source of inspiration for David Ortiz to play baseball. (The Famous People, 2017). In
addition, Ortiz s home country, The Dominican Republic, is known to deliver more talent to the major
leagues than any other country besides the United States. As a matter of fact, kids there are four times
more likely than their American counterparts to reach the major leagues. Dominicans make up
between 25 and 40 percent of minor leaguers. The reason why kids choose to dropout out and play
baseball instead is to one day get in opportunity to escape poverty and their horrible conditions by
playing in the major leagues (Hopkins, 2015). Despite Ortiz s father being a professional baseball

Analysis of Women in the Book of Judges Essay
When interpreting the Hebrew Bible from a feminist perspective, many are quick to decry the
subjugation of women at the hands of men and the lack of female representation in dominant roles in
biblical literature. However, although some women are objectified or possibly marginalized, this claim
of inequality does not always hold true. Especially in the book of Judges, women are not discarded as
characters and are not wholly unappreciated. In fact, the book of Judges features many strong female
characters who serve in significant roles, and who are effectively portrayed as leaders, heroes, and
capable, resourceful individuals. An excellent example of an influential woman in Judges is Deborah.
From the beginning, Deborah is identified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is even Deborah herself who gives the call to charge against Sisera s army, while Barak and his
soldiers comply. In Judges 5, commonly referred to as the Song of Deborah , praises are sung in honor
of this female military leader, who acts as a mother in Israel. Some scholars have even noted parallels
drawn between Deborah and the Canaanite war goddess, Anat (Ackerman 177).
Additionally, Deborah is respected as a religious figure. For example, Barak refuses to go to war
without Deborah by his side. According to Jo Ann Hackett, Barak s refusal to fight without the
presence of Deborah is not indicative of his ineptitude or of her military prowess. Rather, Hackett
proposes that Barak requests Deborah s participation because, as a prophetess and as a leader chosen
by the Lord, her presence indicates divine support (Hackett 357). If Deborah were visible to the
Israelite soldiers, morale would be lifted with the thought that the Lord would deliver the enemy into
their hands. This shows that Deborah is thought to represent the will of God.
Rabbi Steinsaltz notes that the phenomenon of prophetesses in the history of nations is usually
relegated to women who are outside the circle of life (e.g. hermitesses, or virgins dedicated to this
specific role) (Shapira 28). Deborah, however, is an exception. Although she is a prophetess, she is
also relevant in society, and fulfills multiple roles. She successfully leads the charge

Characteristics Of The Watermarking System
the CSF characteristics of the HVS in order to embed the watermarking data on selected wavelet
coefficients of the input image. The selected coefficients dwell on the detail sub bands and the
information about the edges of the image were contained in them. Hence, the embedded information
becomes invisible by exploiting the HVS which was less sensitive to alterations on high frequencies.
The success of their method in terms of robustness and transparency was illustrated by results of the
experiments conducted. Their approach performed against the diverse widespread signal processing
methods as compression, filtering, noise and cropping splendidly.

An adaptive image watermarking algorithm based on HMM in wavelet domain was presented by
Zhang Rong Yue et al. [27]. The algorithm considered both the energy correlation across the scale and
the different sub bands at the same level of the wavelet pyramid and employed a vector HMM model.
Intended for the HMM tree structure, they optimized an embedding strategy. They enhanced the
performance by employing the dynamical threshold schemes. The performance of the HMM based
watermarking algorithm against Stir mark attacks, such as JPEG compression, adding noise, median
cut and filter was radically enhanced.
A multi resolution watermarking method based on the discrete wavelet transform for copyright
protection of digital images was presented by Zolghadrasli and S. Rezazadeh [21]. The watermark
employed was a noise type Gaussian sequence. Watermark components were added to the significant
coefficients of each selected sub band by considering the human visual system in order to embed the
watermark robustly and imperceptibly. They enhanced the HVS model by performing some small
modifications. The extraction of the watermark involved the host image. They measured the
similarities of extracted watermarks using the Normalized Correlation Function. The robustness of
their method against wide variety of attacks was illustrated.

Classic Coming of Age Stories in A White Heron by Sarah...
Reading coming of age stories are always interesting and at times nastolgic. Coming of age stories
typically include a young protagonist forced to make a grown decision which is a transition to their
first move into adulthood. In a sense, these stories show the protagonist shifting from innocence to
gaining experiences. The two coming of age stories that we read in class were A White Heron by
Sarah Orne Jewett and The Man Who Was Almost A Man by Richard Wright. Both being coming of
age stories, they have similar features but were different in the sense that one protagonist seemed to
have made a shift into adulthood whereas one did not. Starting of with A White Heron , the story starts
with a mellow, quiet mood. Sylvia is walking in the woods with her companion, her cow. Jewett
includes words and phrases such as childish patience and the little girl that makes the reader grasp the
idea of Sylvia being a child. The fact that Sylvia hears the whistle of the stranger and hides also show
the idea of her being a young child. The first day meeting the stranger, Sylvia seems reserved and not
paying much attention to him talking about the white heron, even when he confesses to pay ten dollar
for anyone who helps him find it. Soon enough, Sylvia develops a crush on the hunter. She does go in
the woods with him for his needs to find the white heron but she does not disclose where the bird
could be, it seemed as if she just wanted to enjoy his company. When Sylvia goes on her

China And Its Regulation System
Despite what many people think, China and its regulation system (limited market access) had made it
difficult for foreign banks to provide their services. For instance, foreign banks were licensed to
provide corporate banking service only to foreign invested enterprises. Few licensed braches were
allowed to operate as foreign banks. Indeed, foreign banks need licenses from central bank. However,
the bank´s senior knew this would be a slow process since the China state banks were usually run by
bureaucrats and unable to set their own deposits and interest rate level.

Notwithstanding their success with this new system, Citigroup executives were not interested in the

The Unnecessary Paranoia of Margaret Atwood’s Oryx and Crake
The Unnecessary Paranoia of Margaret Atwood s Oryx and Crake
The novel Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood provides a dystopic vision of the outcome of
unregulated pursuit of knowledge and control over nature. It is unlikely that the scenario portrayed in
the novel would ever occur beyond fiction. The reason being the United States and many other
countries already have regulating agencies and oversight commissions that would prevent scientists
such as Crake from ever developing his ideas into reality. Atwood incorporates realistic experimental
methods into her novel, which eventually lead to pigs being able to grow human organs, and creating
pigoons that appear to be more horrific than Frankenstein himself. Consumers are the ones to ... Show

We already do live in a world with an unregulated pursuit of knowledge and that is how it should be.
Instead of rigid government regulation, we should have oversight and industry self regulation. The
government should stay out of the way as much as possible. The government for example, should not
create legislation prohibiting human cloning just because people are afraid of a new race, like people
such as the Crackers. This would be ludicrous because no scientist would ever consider taking on such
a task. The criticisms from others in the industry and the public would be immense. There is no
rational or logical reason into creating the Cracker race except for sport or personal preferences and
pleasure. This would never occur in real life and is not a reason to fear the unregulated pursuit of
knowledge.
Some of the scientific developments in the novel include synthesizing human tissue for use in medical
patients. Jimmy s father says they now have genuine human neo cortex tissue growing in a pigoon
(56). Some of the benefits to society would be to be able control heart attacks, Alzheimer, Parkinson s,
and M.S.. This gives new hope to people who would otherwise die or live a paralyzed life. Jimmy s
mother gives an opposing view explaining that scientists are creating a moral cesspool (56) and
making people with brains of pigs (56). She says that instead of giving hope, they are ripping off
desperate people

Roosevelt And Wilson Compare And Contrast
asing off of Roosevelt and Wilson s different points of view, it seems as they are in disagreement. This
conflict did change the U.S. a lot, but at different times. When Roosevelt was in office, his Corollary
went into role. Then, when Wilson took his place, his annual message affected the nation greatly.
These opposing views caused problems not only in the United States, but in foreign countries also.
Roosevelt s Corollary shows that we could help Latin American countries (Cuba, Venezuela and
Panama) by backing them up and supporting them. No other countries were allowed to seize their
land, or else we could step in. If there was a conflict between a Latin American country and a
European country, again, we had the right to step in. Whether we stepped in or not was based off of

Oklahoma Organic Act
The Oklahoma Organic Act (a series of legislative acts) was passed on May 2, 1890. This officially
created Oklahoma Territory, which at the time excluded the lands occupied by the Five Civilized
Tribes. This created an issue and caused a reorganization that allowed the combination for Oklahoma
Territory with Indian Territory.15 Section 29 of the Organic Act stated, that part of the United States
which is bounded on the north by the state of Kansas, on the east by the states of Arkansas and
Missouri, on the south by the state of Texas, and on the west and north by the Territory of Oklahoma .
. . shall be known as the Indian Territory. United States courts were to assume jurisdiction over civil
cases other than those with tribal jurisdiction. Finally, the act gave attention to Indian citizenship,
stating that any member of any Indian tribe or nation residing in the Indian Territory could apply to the
United States court to become a citizen of the United States . The implementation of the Oklahoma
Organic Act set the stage for Oklahoma Statehood.

HOMEROOM, the sound echoed in my head. I hated homeroom. The biggest, meanest, nastiest bully was there, Larry. I hated Larry. He was always after me! Stealing my lunch money and pounding me to a pulp. I made it to homeroom just fine avoiding Larry. Mrs. Ronald started speaking, Homeroom today will be short, eight minutes to be exact. It seemed as if the principal was telling Larry to do this evil stuff and Larry was a robot. It seemed plausible. But nobody has made a robot so sophisticated yet. While these thoughts were running through my head I missed more than half of what we were learning today. I snapped back to attention when the teacher snapped Turd Ferguson where was the clay army found I thought, oh crap! the bell came to my rescue and I jumped out of my chair and straight for science (4th period) and half way through we had to go to a dreadful assembly. • 6. How Does Laurie Halse Anderson Use Allusions In Speak On a dark august night, Melinda and Rachel went to an end of summer party. Feeling out of place, Melinda resorted to drinking. Once she took a step out, she was confronted and assaulted by a senior named Andy Evans. Melinda felt small and just wanted to say no but the words couldn t find their way out. That was the night that Melinda got raped. Melinda s conflict with herself continues as she tries to overcome the events of that night. In the realistic fiction novel Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, the author uses symbolism and allusions to show how Melinda struggles to overcome the rape throughout the novel. Symbolism is widely used in Speak to suggest something more of an object. Colors are big symbols as they convey Melinda s thoughts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To illustrate this, Anderson compares Melinda to a dryad (p.17). Dryads originate from Greek mythology and it is the female spirit of a tree. The life of a dryad is connected to a tree. Dryads also tend to be shy creatures. Metaphorically, the author is trying to imply that teenagers are in the stage of development and growth, just like plants. Melinda is still growing and overcoming her rape. Anderson also makes allusions to literature to compare and contrast Melinda s story to stories of other characters. To exemplify, Maya Angelou is mentioned quite frequently. In her novel I know why the caged bird sings, (p.50) she writes about how she was raped by Mr. Freeman. She can t talk and is helped by someone with a name of a plant. Anderson uses irony since in the novel Speak, Mr. Freeman is the one who helps Melinda grow. Also, metaphorically comparing Angelou and Maya, we can foreshadow what happens next (the rape). When Melinda finds her closet, she discovers a shattered mirror which symbolizes her past and she tries to cover it up with a picture of Maya Angelou (which is not better.) The poster which symbolizes her rape and secrets doesn t help Melinda grow. Another example would be The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. (p.100) Melinda mentions [Hester] is kind of quiet. We would get along. (p.101) Melinda is comparing herself to Hester Prynne, a character in Hawthorne s novel who has to wear a red letter A to mark her guilt. Both Melinda and Hester feel like outcasts and are a shame in society. Anderson also uses allusions by mentioning the suffragettes (p.154). The suffragettes were people who stood up against unfair treatment of women. To get extra credit, Melinda has to write a report and present it to the class. Being that Melinda doesn t speak, she and David Petrakis, her lab partner, make a plan. Instead of talking, Melinda gives ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Exon Junction Complex Social activities are the most fundamental behaviors for many animal species to survive and require memory formation. Particularly, patients with autistic spectrum disorders (ASD) exhibit several core symptoms, including impaired social activities and repetitive behaviors, often combed with intellectual disability (ID). Memory formation entails new protein synthesis from mRNAs stored at the synapses responding to local stimuli. Neuronal transcripts interact with various mRNA binding proteins (RBPs) and the RBPs ensure the targeted mRNAs to be translated only when receiving proper environmental signals. Significant accomplishments have identified over 1000 RNA binding proteins (RBPs) crucial for accurate post transcriptional RNA processing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Our group is in the ideal position to address these problems. We are the first group to demonstrate that the EJC factor, RBM8a, regulates anxiety like behaviors and neuronal plasticity1. We have developed the RBM8a conditional knockout (cKO) mice and our preliminary data demonstrated that region specific knockout of RBM8a impairs social interaction and affect fear memory. Additionally, RNAseq uncovered that RBM8a modulates a large set of genes overlapping with autism risk genes, which are involved in neurotransmission and synaptic plasticity. However, current knowledge gaps include how RBM8a regulates memory and synapse development, which physiological neuronal substrates are directly regulated by RBM8a in vivo during learning behaviors, and what happens to these transcripts when the RBM8a level is altered. Our hypothesis is that RBM8a regulates activity dependent neuronal plasticity and controls specific pools of transcripts in neurons that are activated by social interaction and learning activities. Building on a novel discovery of an essential role of RBM8a in social recognition, our goal in this proposal is to identify targets that are most relevant for RBM8a dependent neuronal defects and determine the effect on RNA substrates of RBM8a in the brain. To achieve this goal, the following aims will be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Jules Ferry Case Study Case Study: Jules Ferry Melissa Elliott Chamberlain College of Nursing HIST 410 Professor Franklin March 06, 2016 Case Study: Jules Ferry 1. According to Ferry, what recent developments in world trade have made it urgent for France to have colonies? As an imperialist, Jules Ferry felt that France should be exploring and taking over new nations. He claimed colonial expansion was a great need that had become extremely urgent by the people and industrialized population of Europe (Kleinman, 1897). He stated that other countries, United States and Germany, were exporting so much more than France was. Jules Ferry compiled a report of statistics with his perspective of that great need for colonial expansion (Kleinman, 1897). This report ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If not acted on or taken precautions against, North American goods will overcome the South American market that belonged to France first. All of this is connected to colonial policy. 2. What arguments against imperialism have been raised by Ferry s critics? How does he counter them? Jules Ferry believed it was the job of superior races to civilize the lesser races (Kleinman, 1897). He claims when the Spanish and Explorers introduced slavery to Central America it was a misunderstanding and their job as a superior race was not accomplished (Kleinman, 1897). That statement made it seem like he was trying to justify slavery but he circumvented this by repeating that it was the rights of the superior races to control the inferior ones. But, in our time, I maintain that European nations acquit themselves with generosity and with sincerity of this superior civilizing duty (Kleinman, 1897, para. 4) . 3. What non economic arguments does Ferry offer in favor of imperialism? The non economic arguments presented by Ferry in favor of imperialism was; the need for shelters, places of supply for markets to sell France s goods and ports for defense and provisioning for boats to have a safe harbor. The ports for boats were needed because ships were limited on the supplies they could carry, like coal, which is paramount to keep moving. A warship, however perfect its design, cannot carry more than two weeks supply of coal and a vessel without ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Saul Bellow Response essay In Saul Bellow s essay, Hidden Within Technology s Kingdom, a Republic of Letters, he reveals to us that by the 1930 s the media was beginning to make the written word obsolete. Most of Americans are losing their since of literature. Bellow tells us of how Oswald Spengler, one of the most widely read authors of the early 30s, taught that our tired old civilization was very nearly finished. His advice to the young was to avoid literature and the arts and to embrace mechanization and become engineers. Shocked by Oswald Spengler conclusion Bellow refused to me obsolete. He had faced the challenge and defied the evolutionist historians. A few years later, in an issue of The Wall Street Journal, Bellow came upon an old ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 2002, only 52 percent of Americans ages 18 to 24, the college years, read a book voluntarily, down from 59 percent in 1992. Money spent on books dropped 14 percent from 1985 to 2005 and has fallen dramatically since the mid 1990s. The number of adults with bachelor s degrees and proficient in reading prose dropped from 40 percent in 1992 to 31 percent in 2003. I believe that print media will soon become obsolete if it is not already obsolete. There are billions of cell phone users worldwide. It is much easier for them to get the bulk of their news and information online. Why would they go to a store to buy a newspaper or magazine, when all they have to do is turn on a cell phone? I believe with the advent of tablets and e readers, there will be a time that print media is obsolete. I already find that anytime I am required to print something, I am shocked that in 2013 we can t have an e solution. With newspapers dying by the day, I think that e media will be the thing left standing. What motivates us to read? Interest, engagement in the topic, desire to understand, having the choice and recommendation of those we trust leads us to a book. At first Jean was angered with Marius because he could see that Cosette and Marius were taking a liking into each other. This angered Jean Valjean because he was afraid that he was going to lose his daughter Cosette which would be devastating for him. Jean Valjean began to realize that Cosette was unhappy without Marius which I believe is the reason he decided to save Marius by taking him through the sewers from when he was wounded from being in the barricades. I think these candles are a great importance to Jean because they reminded him to be a good person. When Jean Valjean gets caught stealing the bishop s silver the bishop lies and says he gave that to Jean along with the candles. The bishop told him to use the money for good. Throughout the whole book I think this really impacted Jean in the rest of his life because he used it to push him to good. • 12. Self-Hatred Self Hatred If you had a person in your life treating you the way you treat yourself, you would have gotten rid of them a long time ago... states Cheri Huber. Self hatred is one of the most detrimental emotions one can harbor. It is defined as a great and overwhelming dislike and aversion to oneself. Once one starts to accept those feelings, they are headed down a dark path. One way that they are pushed even further down that path is when it is verbally secured by another person, causing the hating person to feel even worse. This is similarly mixed with the emotion of self anger, but it is very different. Anger is an emotion defined as a feeling of displeasure. Self hatred is so much more than that. Once they have decided that their personal health is not worth maintaining, they have decided that they are beyond saving, or that they don t care enough about their body because they are not worth it. This is when one enters the mindset of a suicidal being. Suicide can be defined as the intentional taking of one s life. It will try very hard to avoid that realization; it will try, in a last ditch effort to keep your remaining parts alive, to remake the rest of you. • 13. The Effects Of Classical Conditioning On Operant Conditioning Abstract Reinstatement is a phenomenon that describes the return of an extinguished response following presentation of the US in classical conditioning (Bouton Nelson, 1998). This phenomenon is dependent upon experimental context, as context promotes an association between the CS and US (Bouton, 2004). A lever pressing response was trained in rats to study the context dependency of extinction and reinstatement in operant conditioning. The current study demonstrates that reinstatement occurs in operant conditioning, and remains context dependent, as reinstatement only occurred when subjects were presented with a reinforcer following extinction and were kept in the same context for all experimental phases. Reinstatement of an Extinguished Response is Context Dependent in Operant Conditioning Learning processes by which stimulus specific behaviours are developed have been studied in great depth in recent psychological literature. One such process is that of classical conditioning; the presentation of an unconditioned stimulus (US) e.g. food, with a conditioned stimulus (CS) e.g. a tone, that will elicit a response (UR), e.g. salivation. Following repeated simultaneous exposure to the CS and US, the subject will eventually exhibit a response (CR) in the presence of the CS alone (Bouton Nelson, 1998). However, the behaviours learned during classical conditioning can be removed in the extinction phenomenon; withdrawal of the US, so that a response to the CS is no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. William Butler Yeats The Second Coming In William Butler Yeats The Second Coming, the poet makes phrases such as; the best lack of conviction of stony sleep (19) and the falcon cannot hear the falconer (2). The phrases are useful in suggesting various thematic concerns of the poem as well asserting separation of ideas and events that occur during the time when Yeats is writing his work. Different interpretations of the stanzas may bring a connection of the antagonism of people and events that Yeats foresees. For instance, the falcon separates from the falconer, the lion having the head of a human being (sphinx) and things falling apart indicate contradicting forces that work to build history at the time. The analysis of the poem is on the basis of contradicting forces that separate modernity from the ancient world. Yeats introduces the poem by referring to a falcon that flies away from the falconer who happens to release it. Shockingly, the falcon cannot hear its master but it continues wheeling at far distance from the falconer. The separation between the falcon and the falconer presents a metaphorical incidence that is worth to interpret. For instance, it is possible that the disassociation represent the young ones, acting as falcons, and separate themselves from the old order of the society. Notably, the modern children may be adopting new societal principles different from the ones that their parents and grandparents prescribe during the Yeats time. Such societal engagements may touch on music, new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. The Effect Of Milk And Milk Of Magnesia On Seed Germination Background A seed is the plants way of reproducing and allows the plant to produce plants of the same kind. A seed is a developing plant that is bounded by a seed coat that covers the seed and usually has stored food and nutrients inside. Seeds allow the plant to reproduce so they don t become extinct. Radish seeds are rapid growing seeds that grow best in full sunlight with their own space, soil with a pH level of 6.5 7, water with a pH level of 7, and cool/moist soil. Lemonade has a pH level of 2.5 and is acidic, so the seed most likely will grow at a very slow rate compared to a seed with normal tap water. Milk of magnesia has a pH level of 10.5 which is more basic and higher than the pH level of water, the substance radish seeds grow best in. Therefore, the milk of magnesia might be too strong for the seeds and will cause them to either grow extremely slow or not at all. The effect of lemonade and milk of magnesia on seed germination can be measured by using a ruler and measuring the sprout growth of each seed in centimeters daily. Question Will lemonade and milk of magnesia affect radish seed germination and growth? However, although some women are objectified or possibly marginalized, this claim of inequality does not always hold true. Especially in the book of Judges, women are not discarded as characters and are not wholly unappreciated. It is even Deborah herself who gives the call to charge against Sisera s army, while Barak and his soldiers comply. In Judges 5, commonly referred to as the Song of Deborah , praises are sung in honor of this female military leader, who acts as a mother in Israel. Some scholars have even noted parallels drawn between Deborah and the Canaanite war goddess, Anat (Ackerman 177). Additionally, Deborah is respected as a religious figure. For example, Barak refuses to go to war without Deborah by his side. According to Jo Ann Hackett, Barak s refusal to fight without the presence of Deborah is not indicative of his ineptitude or of her military prowess. Rather, Hackett proposes that Barak requests Deborah s participation because, as a prophetess and as a leader chosen by the Lord, her presence indicates divine support (Hackett 357). If Deborah were visible to the Israelite soldiers, morale would be lifted with the thought that the Lord would deliver the enemy into their hands. This shows that Deborah is thought to represent the will of God. Rabbi Steinsaltz notes that the phenomenon of prophetesses in the history of nations is usually relegated to women who are outside the circle of life (e.g. hermitesses, or virgins dedicated to this specific role) (Shapira 28). The two coming of age stories that we read in class were A White Heron by Sarah Orne Jewett and The Man Who Was Almost A Man by Richard Wright.
