Being Human In Book I Of Nicomachean Morals
Humans have come a long way. To think that the only way you could create a fire was to use sticks
and coal and now it only takes a lighter or a match to create a fire. To think that we as humans use to
think the world was flat and now where flying in space to different planets. As humans we have done
so much in this world but there are still a lot of question that still are unanswered and the biggest one
is what does it mean to be human?
There are a wide range of implications to being human. Being human means being an ordinary that
tries to understand its otherworldly presence. We are not human, we are basically being human. If we
were not to be conceived as people, we may have been conceived as creatures. In Book I of
Nicomachean Morals, Aristotle presents his contention by recognizing two sorts of finishes which
individuals make progress toward. He states, For the end is here and there a movement, in some cases
an item past the action; and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Allowing that character is given to us by nature, he makes the inquiry of whether we can really
characterize our own character. Ideals enables us to consummate what nature has given us as our
character. This suggests one s having a decent good character is totally the aftereffect of his or her
choice to take part in idealistic activities reliably. As Aristotle states in Book III of Nicomachean
Morals, Now the ethics, as we say, are intentional, since in certainty we are ourselves in a way
together in charge of our conditions of character, and by having the kind of character we have we set
out the kind of end we do (70). Although the choice or decision lies in the activity itself, great or
awful, Reason is the thing that aides us toward that activity. In this manner, we can perceive how
Reason is an immediate accomplice in the choice to be ethically idealistic if we take a gander at the
distinction between two of what Aristotle calls our Levels of

The Monster Figurative Language
The lyrics to a song called The Monster by Eminem are different than the lyrics to any other rap that I
have heard. This song is about the writers fame, and how he sometimes struggles and becomes angry
at it. The speaker of The Monster is I , which we know is the author, Eminem. This means that the
point of view of this poem is first person. In this song, Eminem is recounting events that are occurring.
By looking at lines such as I wanted the fame, but not the cover of Newsweek and Hit the lottery, oh
wee (next line:) But with what I gave up to get it was bittersweet , I figured out that the poem reveals
that the speaker s character is a tad frustrated that fame caused him to give up some things that he
loved. Eminem isn t exactly addressing a particular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For one thing, I realized that this poem has no setting, and that there isn t a particular event. Then, I
examined the figurative language of the song, and if there are any patterns. The Monster is mostly
made up of figurative language, making it quite thought provoking. I noticed that it all refers back to
his fame and his struggles. Basically, all of the figurative language is about the same topic. I also
noticed that there are two main types that the author uses: idioms/expressions and similes. ...For
wanting my cake I eat it too, and wanting it both ways is an example of an idiom used in the song.
Going cuckoo and cooky as Kool Keith and Ironic cause I think I m getting so huge I need a shrink are
only two of the many similes in The Monster. Thirdly in my deep analysis of this song, I determined
the structure of this poem. I came to conclusions that every stanza has sixteen (16) line plus a (1) line
leading into the chorus. So every stanza includes seventeen (17) lines. In addition, I determined that
there is a lot of rhyming, but there seems to be no

Sigmund Freud s Pychodynamic Approach To Leadership
The psychodynamic approach to leadership has its roots in Sigmund Freud´s. The psychodynamic
paradigm has its origins in Freud s psychoanalytic theories of human behaviour. Specifically, this
approach draws attention to the sources of energy and motivational forces that drive human actions by
considering what is within : the inner world of individuals, including their emotions , relationships
between individuals, and in the reality that is created by the dynamics of groups (In text citation of
Neumann Hirschhorn,1999).Emotionally disturbed individuals and psychological theories of
personality development form the basis of psychodynamic approach This approach gives importance

When a person is in parent ego state a person thinks, feels and behaves in the way they copied from
their parents during child hood. In this ego state they will be either controlling or nurturing during the
child ego state they think feel and behave as one did as a child. During this stage they try to behave as
a free child or a adapted child. In the adapted child stage they behave as in the adult ego state they
behave that are the direct result of the present situations. Individuals normally move in and out of
these ego states a person conforms adapts to demands of others and in Free child stage a person acts
and feels like an uninhibited child. Transactional analysis happens when two persons interacting are
assessed. There are two types of transactional analysis complimentary interaction, and crossed
transaction. In the complimentary interaction happens when one person in the nurturing ego state
interacts with person in adaptive child ego state. In the crossed ego state arises when a leader in the
adult ego state deals with a subordinate having a free child ego state . An effective leadership arises
when two people operate in the adult ego state works together. In a crossed transactions the following

Essay on Harriet Tubman and the Abolitionist Movement
When we think of African American history we often forget about the people before the civil rights
movement. The people who paved the way for future leaders. Martin Luther King Jr, Malcolm X, and
Rosa parks are often who we think of. We forget about individuals that made a significant impact that
led us to the present place we are today. Harriet Tubman s contribute to history was that she was the
conductor of the Underground Railroad, which helped bring slaves to freedom. Harriet Tubman was
an abolitionist and was part of the woman s suffrage move. Harriet Tubman was born as Araminta
Ross in 1820 or 1821, on a plantation in Dorchester County, Buckton, Maryland, and the slave of
Anthony Thompson. She was one of eleven children to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

name as her mother Harriet. She was sold to James Cook to weave. The weaving often made her
cough and sneeze. She would get severe coughs and fevers. Like many slaves, Harriet was often
whipped. One day she stole a lump of sugar from Miss Susan, in fear of getting whipped she ran away
for four days. However, when she returned home she was whipped severely. She learned a great lesson
from this experience; she should put on layers of clothes so it wouldn t hurt as much when she was
being whipped.
At the age of 13, Harriet became more rebellious; she disobeyed her masters as people watched. One
day, another male slave was getting beat; the overseer wanted to punish him and he wanted Harriet to
help but she refused to. Harriet was hit with a weight, which put a hole in her skull and pushed her
skull against her brain. She described it as it broke my skull and cut a piece of that shawl clean off and
drove it into my head . After the accident she didn t get medical treatment and soon had to return to

Taking a Look at Wetlands
What is it? Where is it?
Wetlands are an eco system that is home to both native and foreign species, especially waterbirds and
are wet some of the time. The inter tidal wetlands of Bicentennial Park may be threatened by the
quality of the fresh and salt water that flushes them as a result of the human activities in the catchment
and Waterways. In this report, we will explore the mangrove wetlands in Bicentennial Park, Olympic
Park, Homebush. The sixty five hectare Badu Mangroves are listed in the Directory of Important
Wetlands in Australia and is an ecologically significant estuarine wetland system. The wetland was
created because of a series of land reclamation over several decades, including extensive mangrove
stands, open water waterbird refuge and an estuarine creek system. The park offers a variety of
pathways and boardwalks for spectacular viewing opportunities, allowing the animals to live
peacefully while the wetland system can be enjoyed and studied. The Waterbird Refuge is rich in bird
life, and provides habitat for large numbers and species of birds, including migratory species protected
under international agreements.
What s polluting the mangroves and how is it being solved?
From anecdotal evidence taking a tour on the Kadu boardwalks you will find that there are a numerous
of items being litter on the mangroves including:

African American Culture through Oral Tradition Essays
African American Culture through Oral Tradition
African American folktales have origins rooted in West African literary and cultural forms of
expression. When Africans were taken from their homeland and brought to America as slaves, they
also brought with them their individual cultures, languages and customs. However, their white
slaveholders suppressed this part of their heritage in them. Thus they had to find other ways of
expression, mainly story telling and songs. It is incredible to see how African slaves could ever smile
and laugh under the horrible and cruel circumstances, which were imposed on them by the brutal
slaveholders.
The whole body of folktales and spirituals arose from the experiences which slaves had on their ...

They were able to accomplish this by the use of hidden meaning in their words and the ultimate result
was that they outwitted their masters and proved that they were not, after all an inferior race.
The idea of a slave outwitting his master is seen clearly in many old folktales. Virginia Hamilton, a
distinguished writer of fiction for children today, published a book called The People Could Fly,
which is a compilation of African American folklore stories. One of the folktales in her book reflects
the idea that most slaves told stories in which the slave owner would be outfoxed by his slave. The
following is a brief summary of the story named The Riddle Tale of Freedom.
Now here it tis. Long time ago, there was a slave and a slave owner. The got along. They liked to joke
back and fourth sometimes. Those two would exchange jokes and riddles. The slave man say, Mas,
you give me a riddle today and I figured it out. Now, tomorrow, I ll give you one.
And if you can t figure it out, said the slave, you give me my freedom in the mornin, too
All right, the slaveowner says, you bring me one in the morning.
A little further into the story we are told that the slave had an old dog who had died the night before.
His name was Love. The slave took a piece of Love s skin and tied around his hand. He then goes to
his master and tells him the

American Constitution
PO 201 American Constitution
Oct 15, 2012 1. The most general definition of politics would be the process by which values are
authoritatively allocated for a particular society. More specifically that allocation speaks to the process
where it is decided when, what, who, and how resources are distributed. Many would say that politics
is no more than the art of governing humanity through deception, and some would even go as far as to
say it is nothing more than conducting public affairs for private gain.
Government has numerous roles but four of the major areas are paramount. Manage the national
economy. It is the responsibility of the government to place checks and balances within the system to

7. The Virginia Plan came from a Constitutional Congressional meeting that was originally planned to
revise the Articles of Confederation. The Virginia Plan was drafted by James Madison yet presented
by Edmund Randolph. The concept was a bicameral legislature consisting of two houses. The lower
house was to be elected by the popular majority, and the members of the upper house elected by the
lower house. Both houses had representatives based on the population of the individual state (directly
proportional,) and would create a strong central government with the states playing a subordinate role.
Interestingly enough the plan did include a judicial and executive branch.
8. There are many points that make the American Constitution such a special and unique document.
Five of the major points of consideration would be: Federalism, separation of power, built in checks
and balances, popular sovereignty, and the Bill of Rights.
Federalism speaks to organizing government based on a geographical division of power. It keeps the
concept that the national government has final authority over all entities. But it still recognizes that
states have power within their borders over issues that are not defined on the national level.
Separation of power is a concept that seems elementary but many governments have missed this
necessary fact. The three branch organization of the US government has an

Midway, the Battle That Ultimately Doomed Japan in WWII
By: John King Could a loss at Midway have cost America the Pacific, and led to WWII ending in a
different way? The Battle of Midway is know as the turning point of the war in the Pacific. It turned
the tables and put the United States into an offensive position. Midway was one, if not the, most
important battle of World War II because of the background, strategies, battle tactics, and most
importantly the outcome and effects of this battle. Yesterday, December 7th, 1941 a date which will
live in infamy the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air
forces of the Empire of Japan. These words were spoken the day after the bombing of Pearl ... Show

The U.S. lost one aircraft carrier, the USS Lexington, and the USS Yorktown was severely damaged,
but would make it back to port for repair. These Pacific battles were what led to the Japanese Empire
trying to deliver a finishing blow to the U.S. Navy. The Japanese commander, Admiral Isoroku
Yamamoto was in command of the Japanese Pacific Fleet. The Japanese plan was very simple. First,
they would create a diversion by launching an attack on the Aleutian Islands. Then, they would send
three groups of ships to Midway. One was a group of soldiers to invade the island. The second group
was battleships, the heavy gun power. One of these happened to be the largest battleship in the world,
the Yamato. And finally, the third group contained four big aircraft carriers and their battle task force.
The carriers held a combined 248 planes. They planned to attack and destroy the U.S. base. This
attack would make the U.S. send their carriers to the island to try and save the island. They would
ambush the U.S. carriers and destroy them once they got there. To the Japanese, their plan was
unstoppable because they had three times more ships than the U.S. and the element of surprise.
Unfortunately for Japan, they made the mistake of under estimating the U.S. intelligence agency. In
Pearl Harbor, where the war started, the U.S. deciphered the code the Japanese were using to
communicate. They were able to learn very important details that would help incredibly in their

Sociological Perspective Of False Consciousness
False consciousness is sociological concept that I can personally identify with the most. False
consciousness acording to the text book is a condition in which people, usually in groups that are
relatively powerless, accept beliefs that work against their own self interests. False consciousness has
to do with myself because of my evangelical parents that defined my childhood due to their ideology
and how so many of peers act against their self intrests due to a toxic ideology given to them by the
ruling class. False Consciousness supports my view that the world is filled with many deceived
subgroups that act in False consciousness. This sociological concept allowed me to learn more about
why False Consciousness occurs and strengthened my view of the perceived power that the ruling
class has over working class but the actual untouched power the working class has over the ruling
class. As I grew up I saw how the church created an ideology for my parents that justified its excessive
exploitation of them and how they simply accepted this ideology even though it went against many of
our best intrests. We missed meals on a regular basis because the church demanded 15% of all of our
income when we had very little to give. In the text book it gave an example of medival European
society; the ruling class could promote its interest through the Church . My parents church promoted it

Narcissus Scryer
Based on this description, Ovid s Narcissus effectively appears to demonstrate these specific
characteristics of the scryer and the scrying process as Nelson outlines them. Just as the scryer was
predominantly a young and bodily pure boy, Ovid describes Narcissus as being sixteen years old and a
virgin untouched by the Legions of lusty men and bevies of girls that desired him (Ovid
Metamorphoses 3.351 353). He is also described as a paradigm of beauty equal to that of the gods of
Apollo of Bacchus (Dionysus): he saw twin stars [...] rippling curls like the locks of a god, Apollo or
Bacchus, [...] a glorious face (Ovid Metamorphoses 3.421 423). Additionally, Narcissus likewise
expresses the psychological naivety of the scryer as his eyes are deceived, and he does not at first

Visible Light Lab Report
The percentage error was calculated to be 2.53%, which indicated that the calculated experimental
value of the wavelength of the laser was very similar to the theoretical value.
Visible light is an extremely small proportion of the entire range of the electromagnetic spectrum.
Visible light ranges from 390nm to 780nm. The theoretical wavelength of the laser was 633nm,
indicating a light red. The experimental wavelength calculated from the experiment was 617nm,
implying that it is dark orange. The laser used in the experiment emitted a light red color, thus

This error may have potentially reduced the accuracy and precision of the measurements taken. Eyes
facing perfectly perpendicular to the ruler can minimize the effect of this error. Parallax error is not
avoidable but can be minimized when more samples are added.
Systematic errors (ordered from most impactful to least impactful): Incorrect alignment of laser.
Experiment being conducted in bright space.
The laser and the double slit may not have been correctly aligned in a straight line that is perfectly
perpendicular to the screen. This would also mean that the slits might not have been perfectly
perpendicular to the laser. These factors would have caused the interference patter on the screen to be
incorrect. Also, if the laser at an angel other than 90°, L would be a different value.
This experiment was conducted in a bright space. This caused disadvantages when copying the
interference pattern on paper due to the blurriness of the boundaries. This error would decrease the
accuracy of the experiment. This error could be reduced if the experiment were to be performed in
darker conditions, allowing for the bright bands to be more distinct on the interference pattern,

A Character Analysis Of Randle Patrick Mcmurphy
Randle Patrick McMurphy is shown to be a flawed character because of his huge ego, making him a
lecherous gambler high on his own arrogance, and his desire and hunger for power and control. He
thinks he can win any gamble, including a gamble on his life. The stakes are that he bets the men that
he can break Nurse Ratched without letting her get the best of him. Even when he enters the ward,
McMurphy has that kind of swagger kind of walk and he laughs, something that has not been done by
any of the patients on the ward. He is full of brass and swagger and full of assurance and arrogance
with his hanging thumbs in the belt loop of his pants, his heavily scarred skin, his many tattoos, and
his fresh scar on the bridge of his nose (95). After being sent to Disturbed, McMurphy was confronted
with the decision to admit he was wrong and avoid electroshock therapy, to which he responded to the
nurse saying, Those Chinese Commies could have learned a few things from you, lady. Due to this
high arrogance in his confidence, McMurphy received electroshock therapy along with three other
treatments that same very week. This all led up to the major consequence of lobotomy, in which
McMurphy was essentially made a vegetable, to be nothing more than a cautionary tale on Nurse
Ratched s ward.

only to defy her law on the ward. The idea that nothing is gained by McMurphy s rebellion is

Baleen Whales Research Paper
Baleen whales are known as a whalebone. They also live in the Southern Hemisphere. The meaning of
Baleen is made out of keratin, the same protein that makes up our fingernails and hair. They make up
one of two whale suborders within the cetacean family.
Baleen whales are mammals, which means that they are warm blooded and breathe air using their
lungs. That sounds interesting considering that they live in ocean waters, but they have two blowholes
at the top of their body that allows them to breathe when they reach the surface of the water. As
mammals, they also give birth to a live animal, called a whale calf. Unlike humans, who can take
around one year to learn how to walk, whale calves are born already able to swim.

whale to feed on large quantities of prey at once while filtering out sea water.
The baleen whales (Mysticeti) are characterized by baleen, a sieve like structure in the upper jaw

The Fairy Queen by Henry Purcell
The Baroque period is an era of artistic style utilizing embellished motion, pure and effortlessly
interpreted detail to yield drama, tension, exuberance, and opulence in representation. The opera The
Fairy Queen by Henry Purcell is an excellent representation of the Baroque era in its inordinate
application of all theatrical foundations, embroidered indications, and the selected focused elucidation
to return melodrama, emotional tension, enthusiasm, and sumptuousness for the audience watching.
Baroque music is characterized through contrasts as dramatic elements, monody and the advent of the
basso continuo, and different instrumental sounds. Contrast is an essential feature in the production of
baroque arrangements. The alternations between bold and flamboyant and soft, solo and ensemble,
different instruments and timbres all constitute a key portion in various baroque compositions.
Composers similarly created more precise instrumental arrangements regularly stipulating the
instruments on a musical piece that ought to be executed instead of allowing the performing musician
to select. The Fairy Queen is a masque or semi opera by Henry Purcell. The libretto is an revision of
William Shakespeare s wedding comedy A Midsummer Night s Dream. Purcell did not put any of

Carnival also minimizes staffing costs by sourcing employees on a global basis. The employees are a

International Differences A few international differences affect the operations of cruise lines.
Differences include political/legal, geographic, economic, or sociocultural. Since cruise lines are an
international business, they are affected by these differences. Many cruise lines choose to flag their
vessels in countries that have lower taxes and less stringent employment practices required by the laws
of those countries (The Cruise). However, some governments may choose to subsidize the ship
industry in order to secure contracts for their domestic firms. Many ships are built in order to be
appealing to the eye, but with cruise ships going to so many different places, they have to be designed
not only to accommodate the economic reality of the mass market, but also the cultural preferences of
the clientele. Carnival designed seasonal cruises that sail to different destinations. The themes chosen
are based on the locations the ship will be travelling to. Also, buffet options are available in order to
provide a variety of food options for the customers and avoid cultural preferences.

Air Commerce Act Of 1926 Research Paper
The Air Mail Acy of 1925 (Kelly Act)
Before aircraft, long distance movement of mail was the domain of the railroads. As the use of aircraft
in the transportation of mail started to increase, the railroads began to worry about their longstanding
government contracts, and how aviation would infringe upon them. Using airplanes was extremely
cost effective, and their use could not be denied. In order to appease both sides the Postmaster, Harry
S. New, and Congressman, Clyde Kelly, collaborated to create a legislative bill in 1925 that increased

The Opera Of Turandot By Giacomo Puccini
Opera Paper Turandot Turandot is a dramatic opera that was performed in the Metropolitan Opera in
2009. Turandot was written by Giacomo Puccini. This rendition of Turandot was produced by Franco
Zeffirelli, and directed by Andris Nelsons. In this beautiful performance of Turandot, we see Maria
Guleghina as Princess Turandot, Mariana Poplavskaya as Lui and Calaf as play by Marcello Giodani.
With all of these talented actors and show personnel, this production remains one of the best known
film adaptations of Turandot. The composer of Turandot is Giacomo Antonio Domenico Michele
Secondo Maria Puccini, who was born on December 28, 1858 in the small town of Lucca Italy.
Puccini came from 5 generations of musicians and began writing operas at the age of 21. His realistic
verismo style, which means truth or reality in Italian, allowed him to identify with his characters in a
realistic way and his operas reflect real life situations. Puccini liked to write operas with heroines
rather than heroes. His operas almost always include a death for the sake of love. Despite his operatic
genius, Puccini only wrote ten operas in his lifetime. He died on November 22, 1924 at the age of 66.
At the time of his death, he was only one act short of completing Turandot. His close friend and fellow
composer, Arturo Toscanini, finished Turandot shortly after his death. Puccini has been referred to by
many critics as the greatest composer of Italian opera after Verdi (Brittanica.com).

The Theme Of Truth In O s Powman By Piers Plowman
Piers Plowman s whole plot revolves around truth. Piers Plowman is full of many references to truth.
It is defined as all that is morally excellent in the world. Throughout the text, Truth is given all
characteristics of God and the plowman does what is asked of him as if it was his God. This is very
important in itself because if you live a truthful life you will go to heaven. So, if you look up to truth
and almost worship the idea of truth and living a truthful existence, you will be in good fortune in God
s eyes. The lady of lovely looks mentions truth in the first passus:
Truth is therein

Their Eyes Were Watching God Symbol Analysis
Symbols and Metaphors In Their Eyes Were Watching God, Zora Neale Hurston uses symbols and
metaphors to enrich the characters in the novel. Through Janie, the main character, the use of the pear
tree, the horizon and the road, and the storm help cultivate her romantic journey. Her dream under the
pear tree helps set the standard and expectation for her three marriages. The horizon represents
unknown things that are to come in her journey. The road symbolizes the bridge between Janie s
reality and her dreams. The storm represents the ever present chaos that is in nature. In addition, the
symbolism is strengthened as it is depicted through Janie s point of view. Janie s dream under the pear
tree symbolizes her desire for love. The earliest memory she recalls during her story to Pheoby was
spending every minute that she could steal from her chores under that tree for the last three days (10).
As she lies there, Hurston uses vivid and direct language to portray Janie s thoughts about sexuality
with phrases such as snowy virginity of the bloom (10). Not only does she observe the characteristics
of the buds, she also finds the action fascinating. She saw a dust bearing bee sink into the sanctum of a

My First Year Of Learning With The Open University
My first year of learning with the Open University has certainly challenged me. It has proven to be a
huge platform for my academic progress. From various essays and tutors feedback, I am learning to
develop both academic and personal skills as an independent learner. I have been assigned tasks such
as researching for essays using various types of material including books, the internet and visual
material and also reflecting on my learning experience.
As this was my first exposure to distant learning, I did not know what to expect and now that I am
nearing the end, I feel a mixture of emotions. On one hand I feel a great sense of achievement, but on
the other, the feeling that I would like to have scored a little better in each of my assignments.
Unfortunately it has been a very difficult year for my family and I, but I feel that I have progressed as
a student in being able to overcome the obstacles, pull through and at least keep up with the course. I
refused to give up when times were tough and that determination to some extent I feel reflected in my
continuation on the course. As a result of this, I feel I have I am on the way to developing skills of
time management and organisation, which proved to be essential in my circumstances and despite
having to ask for an extension for TMA 03 and considering doing so an other occasions, I completed
all essays, which in itself is an achievement for me.
Before starting the course, I was a little unsure about essay writing. It was

Worship God Reflection
I stared out at the sunset from my post of land in the woods. The bleeding of reds, oranges, and pinks
together perfectly reflected onto the shimmering lake. My stomach ached, but the taste of beauty made
the pain somewhat bearable. This past summer, I went on a La Vida trip, where I was required to do a
solo experience, where I was denied food and social interactions for two days. Fasting was proven to
be difficult, but it was through that experience that I began to understand the concept of giving all
yourself in worship to God. Most of my life I was only familiar with worshiping God with my time,
resources, or through song. In denying myself food, I was shown how to worship God through fasting.
From the lessons I learned at La Vida, my goals for the next four years are to do what Jesus said in
Luke 10:27: to love the Lord (my) God with all (my) heart and with all (my) soul and with all (my)
strength. Over these four years, I plan to worship God through every aspect of my life, including but
not limited to in my academic and musical pursuits. Through my academics, I hope to be diligent in
my pursuit of knowledge, to grow in my character, and to worship God. In the Liberal Arts for the
Christian Life, Jeffrey C. Davis emphasized that education can be a means of worshiping the Lord. In
all my pursuits of knowledge, I should study as if I m working for the Lord, not for human masters
(Col. 3:23). Then, through this discipline and training of faithfulness, I can be

Analysis Of Beauty And The Beast And Apuleius s Cupid...
Jeanne Marie LePrince de Beaumont s Beauty and the Beast and Apuleius s Cupid and Psyche both
use a pair of sisters as a shadow figure to the beauty in the story. A shadow figure is a term used from
Carl Jung s Process of Individuation , that describes the character who impedes on beauty s growth is
a shadow character. The sisters in both stories hold features that beauty should gain in the end, such as
marriage, being confident, and wanting more for herself. The sisters also hold features that are the
opposite of beauty such as selfishness, envy, and being materialistic. These are ways that we can
define the sisters as being the shadow. Although at first it seems the shadow figures of the sisters in
Beauty and the Beast and Cupid and Psyche both are trying to ruin beauty s development,
nevertheless, both sets of sisters have different methods of ruining her individuation such as the sister
s different relationships with beauty before she goes to the beast, different ways of stunting her
growth, and different results after they attempt to ruin her individuation.
At first, the sisters in the two stories seem to have similar ways in ruining beauty s development. Both
the pairs of sisters are envious of their younger sister. You would almost think that the two older ones
were twins from how alike they are. In Beaumont s Beauty and the Beast, the virtues of their younger
sister had filled them with a good deal of envy (Beaumont, 138). This is about the older sisters. The

My Original Definition Of Social Media Essay
1. My original definition for antisemitism was: antisemitism is the conscience or unconscious hatred
of a Jew or Jews, because of certain characteristics that the hater believes the Jew or all Jews possess
by being Jewish. However, one thing that my original definition does not hint towards the wide
spectrum of behaviors that are antisemitic. This is an advantage that your definition has. Your
definition mentions a spectrum form mildest expressions to exterminatory activities. Your definition
goes on to list different examples of antisemitic behavior. One category of behavior is not mentioned
though, and that is the use of social media to do such things as cyber bullying. We talked some during
the course about social media, especially at the end of the course when we discussed the six
parentheses symbol. Perhaps a better definition of antisemitism could come about by combining our
two definitions and making mention of social media. The new definition could be: antisemitism is
defined as the conscience or unconscious hatred of Jews or Judaism from its mildest expressions to
exterminatory activates. The activists include making jokes, cyberbullying, the destruction of religious
objects, defacing synagogues, and murdering Jewish people. This new definition considers actions
despite weather or not the hater is aware of them. For example, a person could have always been told
that Jews are greedy. This guy goes around telling jokes about Jews being greedy. He is engaging in

they were all dead they put a layer of sand on the bodies and let the next hundred come. While the
victims were waiting for their death they didn t see what was happening ,but did hear the gunfire. One
reason the Einsatzgruppen failed was because obviously people didn t agree with what they did.
Soldiers part of the Wehrmacht, which was the was the German army, were in denial that Germany
wanted this to happen. They were told that Jews were the enemies of Germany. Few tried to protested
what was happening to their superior officers, but obviously nothing would stop it. Citizens of these
town were told the same thing that this was what needed to be done. Even with all the propaganda, it
wasn t enough because people couldn t tell themselves that this was right. The people who strongly
disagreed with the Einsatzgruppen didn t say anything because they could easily become one more
victim for them.(SS Einsatzgruppen)
These shootings also caused much stress on the soldiers of the Einsatzgruppen. Some soldiers would

Morality Essay
Morality
Is morality relative? Ruth Benedict and James Rachels have opposing views on this conroversial
question. Benedict, a foremost American anthropologist who taught at Columbia University (Pojman
370) believes that morality is relative to one s culture and that one s behavior which is deemed moral
or immoral is dependent upon cultural norms. Her argument is as such: 1. Different cultures have
radically different moral codes 2. There are no objective moral principles i.e. all moral principles are
culturally relative
Rachels, a professor at the University of Alabama (Pojman 375) disagrees with Benedict and believes
that morality is not relative. Furthermore he holds Benedicts Cultural differences argument to be ...

For instance, some African tribes are known to sew a woman s vagina closed when she is young to
prevent her from being able to have intercourse before she is married.; If she is not sytill sewn shut on

drastic, but to those tribes, this is a ritual that has been practiced throughout their history and is
considered a rite of passage when a girl reaches puberty. Benedicts also gives an example to further
prove her point that morality and or normality is culturally relative. She gives the example of a man in
a Melanesian society who was referred to as silly and simple and definitely crfazy because he liked to
share and to help people and do nice things for them. In the United States , these are virtuous qualities.
If you are stingy and not helpful you are looked down upon, but in this contrasting society, to share
and be helpful is so disgraceful that one is ridiculed for possessing thaose traits or even condemned for
them. One who believes that morality is relative could give further example of traits that are despised
in one culture but admired in a different culture. History and evolution provide codes of what is
accepted in a culture, things such as sorcery, homosexuality, polygamy, male dominance, euthanasia,
these things are completely dependant upon its society to

The Impact Of The Berlin Wall
The Berlin Wall divided Germany into the East and West because of opposing ideas of the future for
Germany. Germany was weak and pliable after barely surviving Nazi Germany, so the vulnerable
country could have been formed into anything and the major powers knew this. The Soviet Union
wanted a communist Germany and the major democracies America, Britain, and France wanted a
democratic Germany. Because of these opposing ideas, Germany was split into the East and West,
each living an entirely different life depending on the country of influence. When the Berlin Wall fell,
though, neither side was as it was before; the country had changed in almost every way. This essay
analyzes how the Berlin Wall changed Germany, focusing on Berlin, in many different aspects and
lenses. The essay will examine how the people, the economy, the government, religion, and literature
were affected by this great divide. This essay will also explain how America influenced German
culture through integrating Western culture during the Wall in the West and after the Wall in both
sides. To what extent was Germany, especially Berlin, similar and different politically, economically,
and culturally from how it was before the Berlin Wall was built to when it was torn down?

Foamed Polystyrene Research Paper
Pollution has become an emerging issue in our contemporary society. The awful smell reeks of filth as
it wraps itself around my body like the second skin. The particles invade my lungs and sting my eyes
even if I squint into the city streets at Wichita downtown. They call it smog, but truly it is a chemical
soup that can only shorten our lives and exacerbate health issues. Whenever this happens, some walk
in face masks, others hide in homes with air filtration, but most of us can afford neither. We take food

Bacteria, fungi and other decomposers cannot break down these substances because of their chemical

Sadly, the only places we now call clean are our homes: some of our lawns are also pristine. We feel
that the pollutants are within the dome as the rest of our local community is a barren wasteland, home
only to the chemical pollutants we expel from our bubble. However, life carries on much like it always

Community to have a voice and to part take in many important discussion surrounding the world.
However, I am highly frustrated at times with the portrayal of the women through the use of these

  • 2. Being Human In Book I Of Nicomachean Morals Humans have come a long way. To think that the only way you could create a fire was to use sticks and coal and now it only takes a lighter or a match to create a fire. To think that we as humans use to think the world was flat and now where flying in space to different planets. As humans we have done so much in this world but there are still a lot of question that still are unanswered and the biggest one is what does it mean to be human? There are a wide range of implications to being human. Being human means being an ordinary that tries to understand its otherworldly presence. We are not human, we are basically being human. If we were not to be conceived as people, we may have been conceived as creatures. In Book I of Nicomachean Morals, Aristotle presents his contention by recognizing two sorts of finishes which individuals make progress toward. He states, For the end is here and there a movement, in some cases an item past the action; and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Allowing that character is given to us by nature, he makes the inquiry of whether we can really characterize our own character. Ideals enables us to consummate what nature has given us as our character. This suggests one s having a decent good character is totally the aftereffect of his or her choice to take part in idealistic activities reliably. As Aristotle states in Book III of Nicomachean Morals, Now the ethics, as we say, are intentional, since in certainty we are ourselves in a way together in charge of our conditions of character, and by having the kind of character we have we set out the kind of end we do (70). Although the choice or decision lies in the activity itself, great or awful, Reason is the thing that aides us toward that activity. In this manner, we can perceive how Reason is an immediate accomplice in the choice to be ethically idealistic if we take a gander at the distinction between two of what Aristotle calls our Levels of ... • 3. The Monster Figurative Language The lyrics to a song called The Monster by Eminem are different than the lyrics to any other rap that I have heard. This song is about the writers fame, and how he sometimes struggles and becomes angry at it. The speaker of The Monster is I , which we know is the author, Eminem. This means that the point of view of this poem is first person. In this song, Eminem is recounting events that are occurring. By looking at lines such as I wanted the fame, but not the cover of Newsweek and Hit the lottery, oh wee (next line:) But with what I gave up to get it was bittersweet , I figured out that the poem reveals that the speaker s character is a tad frustrated that fame caused him to give up some things that he loved. Eminem isn t exactly addressing a particular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For one thing, I realized that this poem has no setting, and that there isn t a particular event. Then, I examined the figurative language of the song, and if there are any patterns. The Monster is mostly made up of figurative language, making it quite thought provoking. I noticed that it all refers back to his fame and his struggles. Basically, all of the figurative language is about the same topic. I also noticed that there are two main types that the author uses: idioms/expressions and similes. ...For wanting my cake I eat it too, and wanting it both ways is an example of an idiom used in the song. Going cuckoo and cooky as Kool Keith and Ironic cause I think I m getting so huge I need a shrink are only two of the many similes in The Monster. Thirdly in my deep analysis of this song, I determined the structure of this poem. I came to conclusions that every stanza has sixteen (16) line plus a (1) line leading into the chorus. So every stanza includes seventeen (17) lines. In addition, I determined that there is a lot of rhyming, but there seems to be no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The psychodynamic paradigm has its origins in Freud s psychoanalytic theories of human behaviour. The people who paved the way for future leaders. Martin Luther King Jr, Malcolm X, and Rosa parks are often who we think of. We forget about individuals that made a significant impact that led us to the present place we are today. Harriet Tubman s contribute to history was that she was the conductor of the Underground Railroad, which helped bring slaves to freedom. Harriet Tubman was an abolitionist and was part of the woman s suffrage move. Harriet Tubman was born as Araminta Ross in 1820 or 1821, on a plantation in Dorchester County, Buckton, Maryland, and the slave of Anthony Thompson. She was one of eleven children to ... She was sold to James Cook to weave. The weaving often made her cough and sneeze. She would get severe coughs and fevers. Like many slaves, Harriet was often whipped. One day she stole a lump of sugar from Miss Susan, in fear of getting whipped she ran away for four days. However, when she returned home she was whipped severely. She learned a great lesson from this experience; she should put on layers of clothes so it wouldn t hurt as much when she was being whipped. At the age of 13, Harriet became more rebellious; she disobeyed her masters as people watched. One day, another male slave was getting beat; the overseer wanted to punish him and he wanted Harriet to help but she refused to. Harriet was hit with a weight, which put a hole in her skull and pushed her skull against her brain. She described it as it broke my skull and cut a piece of that shawl clean off and drove it into my head . After the accident she didn t get medical treatment and soon had to return to the fields. • 7. African American Culture through Oral Tradition Essays African American Culture through Oral Tradition African American folktales have origins rooted in West African literary and cultural forms of expression. When Africans were taken from their homeland and brought to America as slaves, they also brought with them their individual cultures, languages and customs. However, their white slaveholders suppressed this part of their heritage in them. Thus they had to find other ways of expression, mainly story telling and songs. It is incredible to see how African slaves could ever smile and laugh under the horrible and cruel circumstances, which were imposed on them by the brutal slaveholders. The whole body of folktales and spirituals arose from the experiences which slaves had on their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They were able to accomplish this by the use of hidden meaning in their words and the ultimate result was that they outwitted their masters and proved that they were not, after all an inferior race. The idea of a slave outwitting his master is seen clearly in many old folktales. Virginia Hamilton, a distinguished writer of fiction for children today, published a book called The People Could Fly, which is a compilation of African American folklore stories. One of the folktales in her book reflects the idea that most slaves told stories in which the slave owner would be outfoxed by his slave. The following is a brief summary of the story named The Riddle Tale of Freedom. Now here it tis. Long time ago, there was a slave and a slave owner. The got along. They liked to joke back and fourth sometimes. Those two would exchange jokes and riddles. The slave man say, Mas, you give me a riddle today and I figured it out. Now, tomorrow, I ll give you one. And if you can t figure it out, said the slave, you give me my freedom in the mornin, too All right, the slaveowner says, you bring me one in the morning. The most general definition of politics would be the process by which values are authoritatively allocated for a particular society. More specifically that allocation speaks to the process where it is decided when, what, who, and how resources are distributed. Many would say that politics is no more than the art of governing humanity through deception, and some would even go as far as to say it is nothing more than conducting public affairs for private gain. The Virginia Plan came from a Constitutional Congressional meeting that was originally planned to revise the Articles of Confederation. The Virginia Plan was drafted by James Madison yet presented by Edmund Randolph. The concept was a bicameral legislature consisting of two houses. The lower house was to be elected by the popular majority, and the members of the upper house elected by the lower house. Both houses had representatives based on the population of the individual state (directly proportional,) and would create a strong central government with the states playing a subordinate role. Interestingly enough the plan did include a judicial and executive branch. 8. There are many points that make the American Constitution such a special and unique document. Five of the major points of consideration would be: Federalism, separation of power, built in checks and balances, popular sovereignty, and the Bill of Rights. Federalism speaks to organizing government based on a geographical division of power. It keeps the concept that the national government has final authority over all entities. But it still recognizes that states have power within their borders over issues that are not defined on the national level. Separation of power is a concept that seems elementary but many governments have missed this necessary fact. The three branch organization of the US government has an ... Midway, the Battle That Ultimately Doomed Japan in WWII By: John King Could a loss at Midway have cost America the Pacific, and led to WWII ending in a different way? The Battle of Midway is know as the turning point of the war in the Pacific. It turned the tables and put the United States into an offensive position. Midway was one, if not the, most important battle of World War II because of the background, strategies, battle tactics, and most importantly the outcome and effects of this battle. The U.S. lost one aircraft carrier, the USS Lexington, and the USS Yorktown was severely damaged, but would make it back to port for repair. These Pacific battles were what led to the Japanese Empire trying to deliver a finishing blow to the U.S. Navy. The Japanese commander, Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto was in command of the Japanese Pacific Fleet. The Japanese plan was very simple. First, they would create a diversion by launching an attack on the Aleutian Islands. Then, they would send three groups of ships to Midway. One was a group of soldiers to invade the island. The second group was battleships, the heavy gun power. One of these happened to be the largest battleship in the world, the Yamato. And finally, the third group contained four big aircraft carriers and their battle task force. The carriers held a combined 248 planes. They planned to attack and destroy the U.S. base. This attack would make the U.S. send their carriers to the island to try and save the island. They would ambush the U.S. carriers and destroy them once they got there. To the Japanese, their plan was unstoppable because they had three times more ships than the U.S. and the element of surprise. Unfortunately for Japan, they made the mistake of under estimating the U.S. intelligence agency. In Pearl Harbor, where the war started, the U.S. deciphered the code the Japanese were using to communicate. They were able to learn very important details that would help incredibly in their ... False consciousness acording to the text book is a condition in which people, usually in groups that are relatively powerless, accept beliefs that work against their own self interests. False consciousness has to do with myself because of my evangelical parents that defined my childhood due to their ideology and how so many of peers act against their self intrests due to a toxic ideology given to them by the ruling class. False Consciousness supports my view that the world is filled with many deceived subgroups that act in False consciousness. This sociological concept allowed me to learn more about why False Consciousness occurs and strengthened my view of the perceived power that the ruling class has over working class but the actual untouched power the working class has over the ruling class. As I grew up I saw how the church created an ideology for my parents that justified its excessive exploitation of them and how they simply accepted this ideology even though it went against many of our best intrests. We missed meals on a regular basis because the church demanded 15% of all of our income when we had very little to give. Just as the scryer was predominantly a young and bodily pure boy, Ovid describes Narcissus as being sixteen years old and a virgin untouched by the Legions of lusty men and bevies of girls that desired him (Ovid Metamorphoses 3.351 353). He is also described as a paradigm of beauty equal to that of the gods of Apollo of Bacchus (Dionysus): he saw twin stars [...] rippling curls like the locks of a god, Apollo or Bacchus, [...] a glorious face (Ovid Metamorphoses 3.421 423). Visible Light Lab Report The percentage error was calculated to be 2.53%, which indicated that the calculated experimental value of the wavelength of the laser was very similar to the theoretical value. Visible light is an extremely small proportion of the entire range of the electromagnetic spectrum. Visible light ranges from 390nm to 780nm. The theoretical wavelength of the laser was 633nm, indicating a light red. The experimental wavelength calculated from the experiment was 617nm, implying that it is dark orange. Experiment being conducted in bright space. The laser and the double slit may not have been correctly aligned in a straight line that is perfectly perpendicular to the screen. This caused disadvantages when copying the interference pattern on paper due to the blurriness of the boundaries. This error would decrease the accuracy of the experiment. • 15. A Character Analysis Of Randle Patrick Mcmurphy Randle Patrick McMurphy is shown to be a flawed character because of his huge ego, making him a lecherous gambler high on his own arrogance, and his desire and hunger for power and control. He thinks he can win any gamble, including a gamble on his life. The stakes are that he bets the men that he can break Nurse Ratched without letting her get the best of him. Even when he enters the ward, McMurphy has that kind of swagger kind of walk and he laughs, something that has not been done by any of the patients on the ward. He is full of brass and swagger and full of assurance and arrogance with his hanging thumbs in the belt loop of his pants, his heavily scarred skin, his many tattoos, and his fresh scar on the bridge of his nose (95). After being sent to Disturbed, McMurphy was confronted with the decision to admit he was wrong and avoid electroshock therapy, to which he responded to the nurse saying, Those Chinese Commies could have learned a few things from you, lady. My stomach ached, but the taste of beauty made the pain somewhat bearable. This past summer, I went on a La Vida trip, where I was required to do a solo experience, where I was denied food and social interactions for two days. Fasting was proven to be difficult, but it was through that experience that I began to understand the concept of giving all yourself in worship to God. Most of my life I was only familiar with worshiping God with my time, resources, or through song. In denying myself food, I was shown how to worship God through fasting. From the lessons I learned at La Vida, my goals for the next four years are to do what Jesus said in Luke 10:27: to love the Lord (my) God with all (my) heart and with all (my) soul and with all (my) strength. Over these four years, I plan to worship God through every aspect of my life, including but not limited to in my academic and musical pursuits. Through my academics, I hope to be diligent in my pursuit of knowledge, to grow in my character, and to worship God. In the Liberal Arts for the Christian Life, Jeffrey C. A shadow figure is a term used from Carl Jung s Process of Individuation , that describes the character who impedes on beauty s growth is a shadow character. The sisters in both stories hold features that beauty should gain in the end, such as marriage, being confident, and wanting more for herself. The sisters also hold features that are the opposite of beauty such as selfishness, envy, and being materialistic. These are ways that we can define the sisters as being the shadow. Although at first it seems the shadow figures of the sisters in Beauty and the Beast and Cupid and Psyche both are trying to ruin beauty s development, nevertheless, both sets of sisters have different methods of ruining her individuation such as the sister s different relationships with beauty before she goes to the beast, different ways of stunting her growth, and different results after they attempt to ruin her individuation. At first, the sisters in the two stories seem to have similar ways in ruining beauty s development. Both the pairs of sisters are envious of their younger sister. One category of behavior is not mentioned though, and that is the use of social media to do such things as cyber bullying. • 36. Foamed Polystyrene Research Paper Pollution has become an emerging issue in our contemporary society. The awful smell reeks of filth as it wraps itself around my body like the second skin. The particles invade my lungs and sting my eyes even if I squint into the city streets at Wichita downtown. They call it smog, but truly it is a chemical soup that can only shorten our lives and exacerbate health issues. Whenever this happens, some walk in face masks, others hide in homes with air filtration, but most of us can afford neither. We take food where we can get it and sleep fitfully amidst our own coughing. The old tale of a time when the air was so clean that trees and blossoms had a fragrance and the sky was blue like it is in the VR games advertised from all the electronic ... Our breathable air is now courtesy of the scientists rather than the trees. We had all the advantages, all the ability to live in a pristine state and county of rich natural beauty, but we squandered it chasing material wealth. All this can be changed through a united ... Also, to address certain stereotypes of African American Women that are created by motion pictures, music entertainment, and other media outlets. I will also share my perspective as an African American Women and my experiences meeting other women of African American background to prove that that these stereotypes do not always hold weight. As an African American woman I am very proud of my culture and the strides we have made as a community over the years in terms of individual and community success. However I ve become complacent about how most of the success that the African American Community achieves usually and primarily measured through the sports, entertainment, and music industry. I will say that I am grateful for my community to have these platforms that allow the African American Community to have a voice and to part take in many important discussion surrounding the world. However, I am highly frustrated at times with the portrayal of the women through the use of these platforms. I am also frustrated at times with are community for not recognizing and celebrating the women who have achieved college degrees. Since our own community doesn t always take the time to acknowledge these sort of achievements it then spills over to other ethnic or racial groups becoming even more ...
