Analysis Of Shirley Jackson s The Lottery
There is a great deal of tension about the ritual that surrounds the Lottery traditions in Shirley
Jackson s short story, The Lottery. Out of fear and superstition, the lottery ceremony continues
to exist. In short, the lottery is more of a tradition rather than a ritual at the point we witness in
the story, but out of respect and fear for tradition, the towns folks are more than willing to
commit an act of mass violence, simply for the sake of a tradition. Born in San Francisco,
California on December 14, 1916, Shirley Hardie Jackson was born to Leslie and Geraldine
Jackson. Jackson was raised in quite a traditional and well off household, which helped develop
themes for later short stories. (Alessio 114) As a young child Jackson loved the subject of
witchcraft, and she often spent hours reading various books. She spent a decent amount of her
childhood writing poetry and short stories, and eventually moved up north and attended the
University of Rochester. (Biography.com) After completing her first year of college, Jackson
decided to take a year off and focus on her literature work before moving to a new college;
Syracuse University. During her brief pause in her education Jackson would at a minimum, write
a thousands of words a day to improve her work. Once the two were married, Hyman received a
job as a professor at Bennington College in North Bennington, Vermont where the two settled and
also modeled the setting for her well known short storyThe Lottery. On June

The Effect Of Salmon Kills On The Klamath
1.Salmon is everything was written about the 2002 fish kill on the Klamath river. There were
several factors that lead to the writing of salmon is everything. The most important of which was
that there was a lack of awareness in the community. The play was written so that people outside of
the native communities could better understand how the fishkill had effected those communities.
The second objective was to help and bring together the different viewpoints on the Klamath. I
think that this play was necessary because it helped to educate the local communities as well as
bring the various viewpoint together on to one stage.

The Theory Of Personality Traits
The study of personality is very important in the field of psychology because it aims to provide
an account for individuality of human beings (Pervin and John, 1999). There are many
psychological definitions which attempt to explain personality in terms of characteristics or
typical qualities of an individual. Gordon Allport, defined it as a dynamic organization, inside the
person, of psychophysical systems that create the person s characteristic patterns of behavior,
thoughts and feelings (Allport, 1961, p. 11). Throughout the existence of this idea, psychologists
have attempted to find ways to assess personality, creating different tests and theories, for
example the Big Five Model of personality traits. This model, also known as the Five Factor
Model (FFM), included five main personality traits: openness, conscientiousness, extraversion,
agreeableness and neuroticism. The FFM was developed by Costa and McCrae (1985; 1989;
1992; 1997), who are argued to be the most distinguished psychologists in the area of personality.
One of the main criticisms of this model is that it isn t universal across all cultures and that it is not
the right approach to assessing personality among different cultures of the world. Culture is very
important in the area of psychology and there have been many definitions of it throughout the
centuries. Edward Burnett Tyler (1871/1996), a British anthropologist, is believed to have offered
the first definition of culture in his field of study. He

Carter Aarestad Research Papers
Carter Aarestad was born on May 24, 1996 into something he would do for the rest of his life;
farming. Farming may sound pretty simple, but deep down there are a lot of things a farmer does.
Before you can become a farmer, you have to learn how to farm. There are three main things you
need to learn. You need to learn how to plant, spray, and harvest. Carter started learningwhen he was
really young. He started out by riding in the combines, helping out without being asked, and
learning about being responsible.
It all started when Carter was still in diapers, his dad would bring him out into the field and he
would ride with him in the combines. There were times where he would get really tired and pass
out by his dad s feet while he watched the rows go into the header. It ... Show more content on

Carter had to learn how to properly mix each chemical for each crop. In order for Carter to drive
the sprayer, he first needed to learn how to operate it.To operate the sprayer you need to make
sure you re in the right field so you don t spray the wrong crop, that you re using the right
chemical, and you have to make sure the weather conditions are right. The crop can not have just
been rained on and there can t be any wind. It needs to be a nice, calm day.
After learning all the basics, Carter is finally ready to take care of his own fields, and his own
house. Knowing more about plants helps him grow his own garden. When it comes to weeds in
his yard he knows what to use in order to kill them. So now that he is able to do all of these
things properly he can be an official hired man of the farm. He also has the ability to teach others
how to farm, not to mention the degree of Farm Management he will get at college he will learn
even more. Farming may be hard, but with a lot of experience and learning you can become a

Why We Should Study Chimpanzees
Animals such as chimpanzees have rights. Even though they may not be humans, they are living
creatures. Jane Goodall watches the videotape of chimpanzees which inspires her to visit them.
She decides to go visit them and later finds out how depressed the chimpanzees were. They were
living in small cages with nothing to do. No toys, no being around any other chimpanzees, nothing.
Jane then visits another lab where only baby chimps were playing around with toys and other
chimpanzees, but the older chimps were trapped inside cages. People who work with lab animals
should understand the animals behaviors. Whether it s good or bad, knowing this should be
mandatory when people work with them. Since chimpanzees are smart, similar to humans,

Systematic Review

University of Phoenix
Systematic Review The purpose of a systematic review is to attempt to find, evaluate and
synthesize high quality research relevant to the research question. A systematic review uses
carefully developed data collection and sampling procedures that are put in place in advance as a
protocol. (Polit, 2012). A systematic reviewmust contain the following: a clear inclusion and
exclusion criteria, an explicit search strategy, systematic coding and analysis of included studies,
and a meta analysis if possible. (Hemingway Brereton, 2009). Systematic reviews are conducted by
nurse researchers to avoid reaching incorrect or misleading conclusions that ... Show more content

Seven studies used the Practice Environment Scale of the Nursing Work Index to measure nurse
working conditions, one used the Work Environment Survey, and the remaining three used a variety
of instruments from prior studies.
In examining the association between working conditions and patient outcomes, the eleven studies
contained a total of fourteen different patient outcome variables. The association between autonomy
and patient outcomes were examined in two studies. Six studies measure the philosophy
emphasizing the quality of clinical care and the association with patient outcomes.
Nurse participation was examined in regards to the relationship between nurse participator and the
patient outcomes, as well as the association between supportive managers and patient outcomes.
Other areas that were examined were collaborative relationships with physicians, supportive
relationships with peers, staffing and decentralization, patient centered climate and busyness.
The findings of this systematic review suggest that evidence supporting a positive relationship
between better nurse working conditions and improved patient outcomes is

Critical Analysis on a Tina Modotti Photograph Essay example
Critical Analysis on a Tina Modotti Photograph Tina Modotti was from a very poor working
class society. She was brought up in the northeast part of Italy, in Udine, Friuli. She was born at
the tail end of the industrial revolution, in 1896. However, you could say, by all means, that her
village hadn t changed the slightest since the seventh century. She lived vigorously throughout her
childhood, working endless hours in a silk textile factory to earn a cash flow and to support the
family through starvation. After their father had abandoned them when Tina was twelve and fled
to America, the land of dreams, to repeat, Tina was the family s sole breadwinner, and played an
essential role in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, the texture and even the tone had a great deal of contrast in the photograph. Again, there
is evidence of a extremely rough background and very rugged working class hands. The rough
puppeteer hands represent the government, you could say she uses the rough hands to symbolise
masculinity, power and even toughness. Moreover, the other hand is similar, however, there are
differences. It represents the citizens; it is feeble, strangled in wire and being controlled by the
other hand, the government . To conclude, the textures play a key role in the development of the
idea of power, as well as the contrast in lighting. Tina Modotti grew up in an extremely
marginalised and poor environment. The way the government didn t help her family during their
rough periods and suffocating them in to labour would have been one of the several reasons that
influenced her. Equally important, her personal experiences of constant labour and hunger would
have made her come to the conclusion of disliking the government. In my opinion, the way the
government had no control over her dropping out of school and letting her go into child labour
would have influenced her to produce works that comments on marginalisation in society, the
depression and the repression of working class

African Elephants In Kingdom Animalia
African elephants, Loxodonta africana, are found in Kingdom Animalia. They re native to the
rainforests in central and West Africa and are also located in the sub Saharan Africa ( African ).
Elephants are herbivores, meaning they only consume plants for nutrients. They begin the
extracellular digestion process when the food enters through the mouth. They break it down
mechanically with their teeth. It then travels down their esophagus, into their stomachs, and then
makes its way down to their intestines. Elephantintestines can reach up to 19 meters (64 feet). The
waste is then emptied when the elephant defecates (MacKenzie). Elephants use their kidneys for
excretion. When they build up ammonia, they turn it into urea. The urea is released through urine.
Elephants have particularly large lungs that fasten directly to the... Show more content on

The male s sperm is released into the egg and then conception occurs. It is internal fertilization.
The males are ready to mate around the age of 40 or 50, and the females are prepared for breeding
at about 14 years. They are usually pregnant for 2 years and then a calf is born ( Elephant ).
Elephants have endoskeletons that provide structural support. Another part of their skeletal system
includes joints that are held together by ligaments which help land mammals to move comfortably.
Their muscles also control movement. The tendons connect their muscles to their bones. All
together, these structures control how the elephant is able to stand, walk, bend, and other such
movements.
An elephant has a strong sense of smell and hearing. The trunks of elephants are extremely sensitive
to the touch. They have many nerve endings that send information to the brain. These same nerve
endings are located in the bottom of the elephants feet. When they sense danger, they prepare to
protect themselves. While they do not like to fight, they have stable tusks to help them protect
themselves and thick outer skin

Black Magic In The Tempest
In The Tempest , there are two different types of magic that are being explored, one is the art of
evil through the use of Black Magic and the other being the study of meta physics and the
unknown through the use of White Magic. The black aspect of magic is revealed through the
character of the evil witch Sycorax. The white aspect of magicis revealed through the well
developed character of Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan. The good aspect of magic is
developed to a much greater extent than the evil aspect of magic. The black magic, whether in the
form of alchemy, astrology, or temptation, deceives with half truths and riddles that lure a person
with false promises, white magic is the art of bringing out the potential that inheres in nature, seeing

The Gulag Camp System In The 1930 s
The Gulag Camp System was established in the Soviet Union during the 1930 s. These camps
forced people to do intense labor under harsh conditions. Whether large or small, each camp was
known for its brutality. During these harsh times it was hard to ignore what was going on,
however no one could prevent it from happening. People feared for their lives when the thought of
Gulags came up, as referenced in the book 1984, written by George Orwell.
The term Gulag is a Russian acronym for Glavany Upravlenie Lagerey meaning, camp . These
camps operated for two main reasons: a way to deal with prisoners and unwanted individuals; and
also helped build the infrastructure by forced labor (Hayes). During Joseph Stalin s campaign the
camps grew tremendously. The camps varied in size, however the largest camps were located in
the most extreme regions in the country. Work was mostly manual, unskilled, and inefficient.
While working in the camps, prisoners had to work for their food. The more work they did, the
more food they earned. A variety of different things led to a high death rate among the camps
(Gulag). Some people believe that Stalin began the camps, however Vladimir Lenin was the real
father of the Gulag System (Hayes). The first of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Informative Essay On Wright Flyer
Wilbur Wright invented The Wright Flyer on December 17,1903 in Kitty Hawk,North Carolina.
They went to Kitty Hawk because it had strong winds. In 59 seconds it flew 852 feet in the air.
To make the airplane they tested birds on how they flew and they angled there wings. They
invented the airplane because they heard of a German glider pilot Otto Lilienthal and he died in a
glider crash and The Wright Brothers were wanting to decide to start experimenting about flying in
1899. The Wright brothers did not have any money to make the Wright flyer. They also invented

Recommendation Letter For My Superiors At The Company I Work
The following paper will establish how I will communicate a request to my superiors at the
company I work for. In order for my request to be properly communicated to my superiors I will
firstly need to clearly identify the request. Secondly, I will need to analysis my audience. Thirdly, I
will need to specify which tactics will be used to influence my audience. Finally, I will write the
memo that I plan on submitting to my audience.
1. Request: The industry of construction is an industry where you have to be precise and very
accurate. This is why I will be requesting that the superiors in my company purchase a piece of
software Chief Architect and revert from using their current software Sketch up . This task will
require persuasion because the owners of the company think that using open source software like
Sketch up will be sufficient. The company has been using Sketch up for over five years and their
thought process is that its free, it works, and there is no need to pay for other software. One of
the designers and architects at the firm has tried to ask for this software in the past and the bosses
turned the idea down because the software was too expensive. The designer didn t provide any
evidence or provided little logic for his argument, which is why he was unsuccessful in influencing
the superiors. Influencing them into purchasing is the only option now and everyone in the
company acknowledges the need for such software except the superiors.
2. Audience

Studies show that a common thread amongst criminals is neglected and abusive childhoods. Being
maltreated in the early years of development approximately doubles the probability of engaging in
many types of crimes. The effects are worst for children from low socio economic status
backgrounds; lower class youth commit four times more violent crimes than middle class youth.
Beyond the obvious economical issues of the community, many also find themselves victims of the

community are drowning in drugs, alcohol, instability and lack of role models. Even beyond their

On the other hand, if this were to have existed in a dictatorship, one would merely get used to
how something went because that was how life would be from now on if there was a dictator
present. With all the mess and distress already present, the body of laws present in a democracy
is much slower to be established, while it usually took much less time with a dictator. Rather than
one person having to agree on a law or come up with one, a democracy requires the whole body
instead to ratify or accept it. This is due to the fact that your own personal needs must be given up
in a dictatorship, while they are respected and valued on the other hand in a democracy. Therefore,
seeing from all these changes, the alteration in government that the German government faced must
have produced overwhelming challenges for Germany as a whole. They must completely abandon
the norm for them and accustom themselves once again to a new way of life. Not only will these

The project will utilize a Zero Based Budgeting method in efforts to control cost. This approach
recalculates all labor power and costs, and then decisions such as whether to continue the function
and at what levels is made (Roussel, 2013). In view of the fact there is no budget to compare
from the previous year, the budget will start at zero and be based on activities (e.g., salary).
Budget content and justification. Each task will be persistently assessed for its necessity to
discourage superfluous spending. Hourly costs due to development time and other resources may
vary, in which case costs will be adapted accordingly as the project implementation process
continues. The project s preliminary budget is projected to be $14,176.
Direct costs. Due to existing resources such as an electronic medical health record (EMR) and
appropriate staff (e.g. information technology (IT)), the majority of the direct costs for
implementation of an intrathecal pain therapy program will be attributable to salaries. Approximate
salaries were quantified by a national salary online search tool (Salary.com, 2016). The staff
education time on behalf of the project managers is recognized and postulated to be approximately
hours 40 hours. Indirect costs. Indirect costs include items which are shared by many different

The Orange County School System
In 1945, a California LULAC Council victoriously sued to merge the Orange County School
System, which had been isolated in light of the fact that Mexican youngsters were inadequately
dressed and mentally sub par compared to white kids (Takaki, 378). In 1954, LULAC brought
another historical case, Hernandez versus the State of Texas, to challenge the fact that a Mexican
Americanhad never been called to jury duty in Texas (Class Lecture, 11/30). The Supreme Court
administered this as illegal. In the twentieth century, starting with the 1952 Hernandez v. Texas suit,
the case started to turn gradually and unyieldingly ( A Class Apart ). That case prompted the first

Another instance of minority upheaval is what has now ended up known as the Longoria Affair
(Takaki, 388). This was a critical minute in the early phases of the post World War II social
equality development in the United States. Mrs. Longoria reached out to Dr. Hector Perez
Garcia, the author of the American GI Forum. On January 11, 1949, Garcia assembled a
conference of the Corpus Christi Forum; he additionally sent numerous telegrams and letters to
Texas congressmen (Class Lecture 11/9). The national and global press grabbed the story and
even affected U.S. Mexican relations. The Felix Longoria issue turned into an early sample of a
binding together occasion in the Mexican American social liberties development (Takaki, 381). The
intercession of Dr. Hector GarcГa and the American GI Forum in the matter prompted an expanded
enthusiasm around the nation in opening nearby sections of the association (Class Lecture, 11/9).
Among Mexican Americans and Hispanics the nation over, the episode turned into an encouraging

This is all transferred to the government. All taxes and insurances are mandatory except for the
church tax, which covers eight percent of the monthly income. However, if a resident of Germany
doesn t want to pay church taxes he has to do is resign from his church. The negative effect on that
decision is that somebody who is not a member of a church and who is not paying church taxes can
t get their children baptized. Germany s majority is Christian and this decision will negatively
influence their life.
In my assumption, the only reason Germany can show such growth in GDP is because the country
is taking too much advantage of their social structure. After World War II, Germany built a social
structure, which includes national health care for everyone, unemployment payments for everyone
and social security payments. As my father as an economist always says: The game is still the
same, but the rules have changed dramatically. The retirement age was extended from fifty five to
sixty seven, health insurance needs extra fees for a doctor s visit and unemployment payments are
limited to sixty seven percent of a calculated twelve month average income for the first twelve
months. After the 12th month the government supports their residents in a subsistence level.
This brings me to the decreased unemployment rate

Pruritus can lead to sores, which can lead to a secondary bacterial skin infection. Lice can affect

Personal hygiene is major factor for this infestation. It commonly occurs among people who do
not have the luxury of changing clothes or showering often. It is prevalent in refugee camps and
in homeless people. Body lice resides in the seams of clothing, and they are primarily found by
the trunk, neck, and thighs. Pubic lice is caused by Phthirus pubis which is commonly referred
to as crabs because of its claws on its second and third legs that so closely resemble a rock crab.
Pubic lice in transmitted through sexual contact and is highly likely to be caught by an
unsuspecting person. Risk for pubic lice from sexual experiences can exceed 90 percent.
Infestation of pubic lice is found in the pubic area, rectal area, and can also be found, in males, in

The Values Of Women In The Elizabethan Era
Defining what a female was supposed to be and do was an act of Renaissance culture. For most of
Renaissance society, women represented the following virtues which, importantly, having their
meaning in relation to the male; obedience, silence, sexual chastity, piety, humility, constancy, and
patience. The most important being sexual chastity and piety. The Elizabethan age regarded
women s sexuality as a form of currency. In England s social structure currency was a means to
power. A womans virginity was something to be bargained for, and when the time was right, sold to
the highest bidder. In modern day, this slightly resembles prostitution, but during Elizabethan times
selling a daughter s virginity was the quickest way up the social ladder. During this time, the
sacrifice of virginity implies marriage. Young women rarely married on the idea of love alone, due
to the father s interests in finding an ideal husband that will strengthen the family s position
within the community. Author of Shakespeare s Women, Angela Pitt states if for some reason it
was impractical for a girl to marry she was encouraged to enter a nunnery, (15). English women
were predominantly ignored outside of the matrimonial and spiritual world. A woman could not
pledge allegiance to anything besides the church or her husband. To do otherwise, she would be
shunned by English society and by the Church. Women were viewed as a source of sin and
unfaithfulness, as Pitt writes, women were... temptresses who would lead men down the
primrose path to fortification. Their women s bodies proclaimed that they were the living
symbols of Man s First Disgrace. Everyone knew that because it was not only in the Book of
Genesis but in the New Testament where St. Paul spoke of women as being inferior to men, (Pitt
15 16). The only thing a woman could do to escape this harsh judgment was to either enter a
nunnery or marry and serve a man. By doing this, she was serving two lords: God and her husband.
To not serve a husband through consummation and not serve God by entering a nunnery, would be
viewed as a complete rejection of God. Thus, women were not only restrained by the political
standards enforced men, but also the consciousness of the Church that

Essay on Pro-Choice Abortion
Abortion Abortion is one of the most personal, widely discussed, and controversial topics in
American culture today. In most cases, people on both sides of the argument take worthy and
moral positions. Who can blame someone who wishes to prevent the termination of a teen
pregnancy to save the life of an unborn child? On the other hand, who can blame anyone who
advocates the soon to be mother s right to make such a personal, heartbreaking choice? No
matter what she chooses to do, should anyone have the legal right to force her to bear an
unwanted child? Most people in the US are pro choice, and believe that abortion should be a legal,
confidential decision that only a woman can make for herself. However, some are against the idea of

A large number of women have suffered from the detrimental effects of unsanitary operations,
and even attempts at the most dangerous form of abortion: self abortion. The Roe vs. Wade
decision won women the right to have an abortion. This legalization was a public health victory
for women with its preceding introduction of antibiotics and antiseptics for use in abortions. Roe
vs. Wade is considered today, to be an avant garde decision, exemplifying ?judicial activism?.
One important topic debated by many pro choice and pro lifers, is: at what point does a fetus
become human? This is one of the determining factors of the controversy surrounding abortion.
Pro life activists claim that life begins at conception, stressing the idea that a human embryo is
self developing. And since it cannot become anything other than human, it is a living human.
Albeit a fetus may technically of human origin, it does not have the ability to conduct a
conscious thought. At that point, the biological qualities of an embryo are equivalent to a
sesame seed, or an egg. Can we really say that every time we eat an egg, it is like eating an
unborn child? According to pro lifers, yes, and they are technically correct. An egg is a
completely fertilized, undeveloped infant. Yet the average American eats them on a weekly basis.
How can that be justified by the pro life campaign? It cannot. For one to truly LOSE a life, one
must be aware he or she is alive. Thought and emotion are

India s Tobacco Advertising Ban
India s Tobacco Advertising Ban
The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that worldwide, five million tobacco users die
annually and estimates that one million Indians die each year prematurely from tobacco use
(2015). As late at 2009, India was the world s second largest consumer and third largest producer of
tobacco (Economist, 2009, p. 5). In an attempt to reduce consumption, India introduced its first
adverting ban on tobacco in 1990, followed in 2003 by the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products
Act (COTPA) to close loopholes and further regulate tobacco adverting. This paper examines the
arguments for and against these advertising bans and explores whether or not tobacco creates a
conflict of interest when governments profit from the tobacco industry.
For the Ban
The most compelling reason to ban tobacco advertising is the growing body of evidence linking
tobacco ads to increased tobacco use, particularly children. Studies following a 1998 settlement
prohibiting U.S. tobacco companies from targeting American youth have shown a steady decline,
with the lowest levels in forty years of teenage smoking reported in 2015. Despite COTPA, Indian
youth s exposure to cigarette advertising has increased in part because of aggressive point of sale
marketing, promotional support of music and sporting events, through social media, and smoking
portrayed in Bollywood films. Multiple authorities agree that a ban on tobacco advertising has to
be all encompassing and free from

What Is The Dawes Act Dbq
How would you feel if the government seized your land, sold it, expected you to change your
lifestyle and then tried to convince you it is for your own benefit? In 1887, the United States
Government did exactly that to the Native American tribes with the Dawes Act. The Dawes Act
effectively split up Native American land so that non Native American people could take
possession of it. The Native American people had worked the land their entire lives, and now they
were faced with moving from their homeland and way of life for the government. The Dawes Act,
also known as the General Allotment Act, had devastating effects on the Native American
population in 1887 by stripping the people of their heritage, ideas, values, and land, and it continues

160 acres of farmland and 80 acres to every unmarried adult. Rest of the the tribal land was
considered surplus so the government could sell it to the settlers. Unfortunately, the Dawes Act led

The Book Of Amos Is The Earliest Preserved Example Of...
The book of Amos is the earliest preserved example of classic prophetic writings. It consists of
nine chapters, but Amos did not write the entirety of them. A majority of scholars think that not
all of the material in Amos goes back to the prophet himself but was added later by ancient
editors of the book. The anthology contains a variation of materials: prophecies, visions and
addresses from Amos to the people of Israel. Two major themes of the book are the social
injustice in Israel, and the impending doom in Israel s future. Amos is the third of the minor
prophets. His name is usually taken to signify Carrier , but is better interpreted Heavy or Burden ,

The rich oppressed the poor; might was right; it was an age of corruption. The religious leaders in
Israel believed that Yahweh materially rewarded those who honor him and practice at the
established places of worship, which meant that the poor did not live comfortably because they
refused to regularly participate in religious activities. Amos, on the other hand, was taught that you
express loyalty for Yahweh through fair dealings among people.
People built many altars on mountains to serve the Canaanite gods, the Baal and Ashtarte. The
Golden Calves, which the first Jeroboam set up in the north and south of the country to turn the
people away from the Beth Hamikdosh in Jerusalem, were worshipped more than before and the
teachings of the Torah and the holy commandments were viewed with contempt.
Amos began to have dreams and visions concerning this.
He had a total of five visions that express[ed] divine judgment on Israel . The first two visions
were of destructions that were avoided because Israel begged for forgiveness.

A Lab Report On Plant Growth And Growth
Background:
For my lab report we were given 4 plants to grow. The plants chosen were corn, sorghum, cotton
and radish.Corn and sorghum are monocots and cotton and radish are dicots.
Corn:
Corn is in the grass family known as poaceae
sorghum: sorghum is in the grass family known as poaceae
cotton: cotton is in the mallow family known as the Malvaceae. There are many types of cotton
radish: radish is in the mustard family known as Brassicaceae
Introduction:
For this lab you and your partner were to plant 4 different crops (corn, cotton, sorghum, and a
flower or vegetable of your choice). Radish was the fourth crop chosen to grow. The experiment
was to see the difference in growing stages in all four of these plants in a 10 week period. The
height and growing stage for each plant and seed was to be recorded. This lab is important because
it gives the students the ability to gain hands on experience on growing plants and being able to
identify their structures. Understanding what a plant needs such as: water, soil, fertilizer, and
proper temperature, would allow you to grasp the idea of plant growth and development. Due to us
being in south Texas, the temperature is not always suitable for growing plants. I assumed that the
temperatures would be rather high therefore allowing our plants to grow at a decently fast pace. I
believe the radishes would be the first plants to produce its fruit, then cotton, sorghum, and corn. I
also believe that corn would be the tallest

requirements for Oklahoma Baptist University, otherwise known as OBU, are very simple;
however, they only accept sixty percent of applicants ( Oklahoma Baptist University ). This means

issues and help obtain truth of the kingdom of God. However, the author also indicates, each model

grounded on Scripture, is the model faithful to the character of Jesus Christ as witnessed in
Scripture, and whether the model is relevant to present age (Snyder, 2011). Moreover, as I

The European Theater Of World War II
In the European theater of World War II, 1942 marked the dominance of the Axis powers.
German forces in the Soviet Union had reached Stalingrad and threatened the oil fields of the
Caucasus; Axis forces in Africa seemed on the verge of pushing the British out of Egypt; and
German U boat wolf packs preyed on Allied shipping with relative impunity [1]. Late in 1942,
however, two significant Allied successes served to turn the tide against the Axis powers. At El

simultaneously a huge Anglo American force landed in North Africa to contest Axis control;

Both the Axis and Allies saw overseas French forces as the decisive advantage that would allow
them to achieve their differing objectives in the Mediterranean.
In North Africa, General Field Marshal Erwin Rommel and his Afrika Korps, allied with the weak
Italian army, had pushed the British eastward into capturing the Western Desert area of Libya and
Alexandria, Egypt [9]. The British Eighth Army was still a viable force in Egypt, but had been on
the defensive for some time and would not regain the initiative until late 1942, with the British
victory at El Alamein, immediately prior to the Torch landings [9].
Strategic negotiations between U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt and British Prime Minister
Winston Churchill led to an agreement to send American troops to North Africa in late 1942 to
strengthen British interests in the Mediterranean, and open a second front to take pressure off
Russia on the Eastern Front. In return, the British would further American plans to defeat Hitler in
Europe by supporting a major cross Channel attack [4].
Inception of Operation Torch: In 1942, having been persuaded of the impracticality of launching an
invasion of France as a second front, American commanders agreed to conduct landings in
northwest Africa with the goal of clearing the continent of Axis troops and preparing the way for a
future attack on southern Europe. Intending to land in

Relationship Between The Cold War And Global White Supremacy
The relationship between the Cold War and global white supremacy is clear from Borstelmann s
writing. He demonstrates how the improvement of race relations both domestic and foreign were a
necessity. If the U.S. did not fix how potential allies (specifically all post colonial countries) viewed
the U.S., communism was sure to spread. Although Latham does not identify raceas a reason for
modernization both Latham and Borstelmann show that Aligning with these posts countries was
necessary to prevent communism from becoming the primary economic system across the globe.
Although Americas primary agenda was to put a cease to the ascension of Communism during the
Cold War; results of such efforts lead to a decline in global white supremacy through empowering
local leaders, changing legislation, and an increase in economic opportunities for minorities.
Although modernization was not perfect there were many countries that benefited from U.S. help.
In fact countries such as India, Ghana, and Egypt embraced the help of the U.S. America s
assistance. With all three countries U.S. s support in empowering their economic growth was
successful. Although modernizations was to help these underdeveloped countries the primary gaol
of the U.S. is to decimate the prevalence of communism. American policy makers for foreign affairs

Essay On Cherokee Tribe
To begin with, the Cherokee tribe was one of the three primary Native American tribes in South
Carolina that called themselves the real people. Upward in the mountains, they lived in these
villages called longhouses. For the girls, their daily lives consisted of doing work in the field,
planting and hoeing corn, then harvesting it. On the other hand, the boy s daily lives consisted
of being taught to fish and hunt. Their food was examples of fruits, nuts, corn, pole beans,
squash, pumpkins, bottle gourds, and tobacco. Next, the Catawba tribe was another one of the
three primary Native American tribes in South Carolina that called themselves the river people.
They used Carolina clay to make their pottery which they were known for. The Catawba
dwellers lived in villages that had an open rounding on the top. The Catawbas were primarily
farmers because every day they planted crops by the river, fished and hunted. Therefore, the
Yemassee tribe was the third primary tribe in South Carolina that was from Spanish Florida.
Throughout the summer, they lived on a beach, staying in Wigwams concealed in palmetto
leaves. However, during the fall, winter, and spring they stayed in wattle and daub homes with a
roof of leaves like the Cherokee. Every day they would eat clams which were part of their diet and

control the Tonkin region (Northern Vietnam.) The first of many wars to follow in between the
19th and 20th century for the French was the Sino French war which lasted between 1884 and
1885. The French believed that the Northern region of Vietnam, Tonkin, should be placed under
their control as they had control over the regions surrounding it. The Chinese who controlled
Tonkin disputed this claim and a very short

John Steinbeck Once Said of Curley’s Wife, †She’s a
Nice...
John Steinbeck once said of Curley s wife, She s a nice girl, not a floozy . How does Steinbeck
present Curley s wife in Of Mice and Men ?
In this essay I will show how Steinbeck presents Curley s wife in a number of ways throughout the
novel Of Mice and Men , showing both how she is portrayed as a nice girl as well as a floozy .
This novel was set during the great depression and is written around two key themes of the
American dream, which every ranch hand owned their own patch of land, and loneliness, the only
common feeling that each individual in the novel feared. Loneliness was the main theme that
caused Curley s wife to be interpreted in a negative way by the other ranch men. The very first
time we meet Curley s wife ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She takes pride in her appearance and only seeks to impress those around her. We only know
more about Curley s wife through the comments of the men at the ranch. Everyone refers to her
as Curley s wife so doesn t have her own identity, therefore is not addressed as a person but as a
possession. Prejudice leads to her loneliness as she has no rights and feels isolated. Every
worker on the ranch appears to try to avoid Curley s wife as they fear the consequences that
Curley could put upon them if he discovers anything suspicious. Because of this, she s a lonely
character and seeks attention from others as Curley doesn t give her any; however, she
sometimes comes across as being desperate without it being her intention. One of the workers on
the ranch describes her as a tart and a woman that would sell out for twenty bucks this would
influence the other workers not to get involved with her by making Curley s wife s life on the
ranch a challenging one in order for people to understand her intentions of being friendly rather
than desperate. The negative feelings towards Curley s wife start changing after she reveals
more about herself in Crooks room. She claims to be looking for Curley but after cold responses
from the men she starts talking about her desire to live her own life. However, she shows signs of
lack of sensitivity by referring to the men as leaving the weak ones here . Although she has a low

Analysis Of The 91-70 American League Champions Cleveland...
Coming off of a terrific 2016 season, the 91 70 American League Champions Cleveland Indians
had high expectations going into 2017. The Indians made themselves into a seemingly unstoppable
force. Cleveland had dominated in the regular season, especially in their division as they were also
crowned American League Central regular season champions. They had helped themselves by
winning a franchise high 14 straight games. This gave the Tribe tons of momentum heading into
the postseason. On their trip to the World Series, the Indians managed to only lose one game.
Everything was going Cleveland s way until injuries arose in the pitching staff. The Indians had
ended up only being able to pitch Corey Kluber and Josh Tomlin in the last three... Show more

In the 2017 season the, Cleveland had shown off this exceptionality by hitting 27 more home
runs and 14 more base hits than they had in 2016 (ESPN, 2017). Not only was the Indian s
offense a force, but their pitching staff is also feared by teams around the league. To be a good
baseball team you must have a strong pitching core, but strong is just beginning to describe the
Indian s pitching. Many people have even considered it to be one of the best pitching staffs in
the history of baseball. With a starting rotation containing Mike Clevenger, Danny Salazar,
Trevor Bauer, Carlos Carrasco and Corey Kluber, teams usually struggled offensively. Through
the course of the regular season Cleveland s pitching went from exceptional to elite. Trevor
Bauer started pitching like Carlos Carrasco, Carrasco started pitching like Corey Kluber, and
Kulber started pitching better than he had when he won his Cy Young award. Cleveland s
starters maintained a 3.30 earned run average and held their opponents batting average to .236
(ESPN, 2017). Along with the starters, the Tribe s bullpen was almost always unhittable. Having
Bryan Shaw, Cody Allen and Andrew Miller to close out a game was a player combination almost
unmatched across the league. Especially since Shaw, Allen and Miller have a combined 2. 63
earned run average. The strength of the Indians pitching staff is a superior trait to have in order to

We Should Invest Our Tax Dollars Essay
INTRODUCTION
I grew up in South Akron, and graduated from Garfield High school. This high school has meant a
lot to the community and the students that attended it. This is not just a building, but an institution
that has turned out a lot of great minds and professional athletes. Losing the high school in this
district would be devastating. I feel that we should invest our tax dollars in our own city, and worry
about the future of our own child, by keeping Akron schools in the community of Akron.
Purpose
Garfield high along with Kenmore High school have been slotted to be torn down. There are no
dates as of yet to when the projects will start. The removal of these two public two public high
schools would leave the entire southern portion of Akron and nearby Kenmore without a high
school in or near these districts.
Problem
Building the learning site in Kenmore would cause major busing problems. The city already
owns the property of Garfield High school, so why go out and spend money for property, when
you have a property already available? Some people may disagree and say Kenmore is an
excellent choice property wise, and the land is readily available. I feel that we should invest our
tax dollars in our own city, and worry about the future of our own child, by keeping Akron schools
in the community of Akron.
Scope
My proposal for a solution to the problem is to build a new learning center on the site occupied
Garfield High school. This would give the southern portion of

John Brown s A Hero
John Brown Essay
What John Brown did was crazy and was suicidal; he did it because he knew the purpose of it
and the after effect of it. After the Harpers Ferry revolt Brown said that he doesn t feel no guilt
for his actions. He knew what people would characterize him as and he just doesn t care. He
knows what affect and toll it would take on people to see their own kind to stand up and fight for
equality of a different race. Most people would think he s crazy, but actually he s just trying to
fight for justice to end slavery because what he believes that is right.
The reason why I say he s a hero not a terrorist is because if you define a terrorist and line it up with
what John Brown believes in and what he wanted to accomplish then you would think he s a hero
also. See people got to remember the Harpers Ferry revolt wasn t the only slave revolt John
Brown was apart of, he was also apart of other attacks in different places. For example in his
Conversation: Patriot or Terrorist it says During what became known as the Pottawatomie
Massacre and the Battle of Osawatomie, Brown assumed the role of abolitionist leader and led
violent attacks against proponents of slavery. See that he wasn t just apart of one revolt and one
attack like Osama Bin Laden was no he was part of a couple attacks and battles. His mission was to
free slaves and make the economy and country better by allowing everyone to be treated equal and
have equal rights. Like what we have sort of

The Gospel Of Wealth Essay
Carnegie came from humble beginnings, but through his extraordinary vision he would become
the richest man on the planet and would display idealized influence and inspirational motivation
through his philanthropic endeavors, inspiring the nation s richest to give to charities through
the use of foundations. Carnegie was born in Scotland and moved to U.S with his family in
1848 when he was 12 years old. His father attempted to start a weaving business in America, but
failed, leaving Carnegie to work in a mill for $1.20 a week (Goldin, 1988, p. 13). Carnegie would

12). Carnegie s philanthropy had a big influence on the rich in the U.S, and his philanthropic
foundations became the example vehicle for the wealthy to give back to the community. After
Carnegie communicated his vision for the wealthy to take up philanthropic endeavors and lead by
example, every self respecting wealthy individual in America had to have at least one foundation
in which to give to charity (Goldin, 1988, p. 17). Some of the most prominent followers of
Carnegie s examples were John D. Rockefeller, John D. Rockefeller Jr., and his five grandsons
who would establish foundations of their own and give large amounts of money to charity
(Goldin, 1988, p. 17). John D. Rockefeller said of Carnegie I would that more men of wealth
were doing as you are doing with your money but be assured your example will bear fruit
(Goldin, 1988, p. 13). Rockefeller would be right. At the end of the 19th century there were only
five such foundation, six more would be added within the first decade of the century, 22 in the
second decade with 41 being added in the third (Goldin, 1988, p. 17). Today, there are over one
million charities and foundations (Williams, 2010). Carnegie can be attributed to the success of
philanthropy. Through his philanthropic writings, Carnegie showed the visionary leadership trait of
inspirational motivation. Inspirational motivation

Bruce Dawe Consumerism
Good afternoon/morning ladies and gentlemen. Consumerism is defined by the English oxford
dictionary as continual expansion of one s wants and needs for goods and services. Bruce Dawes
poems Televistas and Enter Without So Much As Knocking critique the powerful and persuasive
influence that companies have on our society.
Consumerism leads to self gratification and the loss of life s important values such as friendship,
love and religion; this is an ever growing issue that manipulates and deceives society and has done
so since the beginning of the technological age.
Bruce Dawes poetry highlights his concerns and devotion towards the ordinary consumer and how
easily manipulated and rocked by the media they may be. He does this through the use of ironic
humor, clichГ©, hyperbole and many other language features that are extensively used in his poetry.

The poem Enter without so much as knocking begins with the innocence of a baby being exposed
to the harsh materialistic world seconds after birth. The capitalization of the words HOSPITAL
SILENCE presents the idea of sings which are controlling the way we live. This is reinforced
further into the poem when the baby is considered an adult and is truly introduced to the
consumerism of the society.
Capitalized words again represent the words the man reads on signs. Dawe mocks these signs by
including NO BREATHING EXCEPT BY ORDER which is using irony, as it is impossible to be
able to control when people can and cant breathe. At the end of the poem the non capitalization of
the world silence shows that it is silence rather than a gins demanding silence. This shows that the
only way to escape the miser of a noisy consumerist society is through

The Influence Of The British African Colonies On The...
With more of an idea of what the inland was like, the powers decided to meet up and split Africa
among themselves. It was at this meeting of nations that Britain (the main English speaking
empire of the time) collected around 20 colonies in Africa. Each of these colonies were operated
under the English language. Additionally, English speaking immigrants flooded these newly
organized colonies. This influx of the English language not only spread the English language, but
it also influenced it. Again the powers that conquered were influenced by the places that they
conquered. The influences that were given by the British African colonies were much more direct
now. Now English had been formed, and they were spoken together with the indigenous
languages. As with Aramaic and Latin, the invading force picked up several words and language
additions. Africa offered a plethora of indigenous languages to influence the English language.
Inland Africa also exposed the English speaking colonists to various things that they had never
witnessed before. For example Zebra was a word with African origins, because to this point the
Europeans had not seen this creature. They took what the locals called it and added it to the
English language. This happened with a lot of words that are now commonly used in the English
language. Banjo, banana, chimpanzee, impala, jazz, jenga, jumbo, safari, tango, tilapia, yam, and
zombie are all examples of African words that were added to the English language.

Hyperbolic Discounting Case Study
Executive Summary
Hyperbolic discounting is a human bias for humans to choose immediate reward rather than a
higher valued reward at a future time. This bias is due to the human brains coping skills with all
the information flowing around us. Our limbic system in the brain makes immediate decisions
that are attached to our emotions (rewards feel good), while our frontal area of the brain makes
the executive decisions. This bias leads to many businesses that profit of it, like credit companies
offering high interest loans, companies offering free gifts for business down the road, and even
Amazon promising same day delivery. As of 2015, nearly 30% of American adults don t save any
of their income for retirement. Hyperbolic discounting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The difference between the two choices in each question is the same, but for the first choice,
more people will choose the $50 today over the $100 dollars next year, and for the second choice
more people will choose to wait the extra year to get the $100 dollar.
Hyperbolic discounting has been shown in child psychology studies with the Stanford
marshmallow experiement.1 In this study, a child was offered a choice between one marshmallow
immediately or two marshmallows after a short period of time, usually around 15 minutes. Follow
up studies have shown the children who were able to wait longer for the two marshmallows tended
to have better life outcomes, as measured by SAT scores, educational attainment, body mass index,

Essay about Tom Stoppard s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern...
Tom Stoppard s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead Tom Stoppard s Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern are Dead, a humorous piece of self reflexive theater that draws upon Shakespeare
s Hamlet as the source of the story. The actual device of self reflexive theater is used so well in
Stoppard s play that it reads like the love child of a play and a compelling critical essay. The play
is academic yet conversationally phrased and it deepens our understanding of the original play but
also criticizes it. The aspect of self reflexive theater is used to comment on theater itself but also
as a presentation of ideas and analysis that had previously had no place on the plot centric set up of
stage and audience. The essay Rosencrantz and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They go through the key plot points of Hamlet culminating in this noteworthy exchange: ROS. To
sum up: your father, whom you love, dies, you are his heir, you come back to find that hardly was
the corpse cold before his young brother popped onto the throne and into his sheets, thereby
offending both legal and natural practice. Now why exactly are you behaving in this extraordinary
manner? GUIL. I can t imagine!
Stoppard is commentating on Shakespeare s writing, by portraying onstage the ignorance that
is required of the characters for the original plot of Hamlet to work. The meat of the scene isn t
to insult the duo, but for the critically inclined audience to analyze the sort of logical leaps we
take in order to participate in a narrative. The traditional outlet for such observations were
academic journals and essays but Stoppard is exhibits these ideas onstage for a mass audience.
The Player exemplifies my point (bloated and wriggling as it is) of the unique space that
Stoppard is trying to occupy with the play. The Player is at once detached and involved in the
happenings onstage (textual evidence? How about on page 25 when Guildenstern and the Player
discuss fate. Guildenstern asks Yours [fate] or ours? The Player answers It could hardly be one
without the other ). The Player, in my opinion, diffuses

  • 2. Analysis Of Shirley Jackson s The Lottery There is a great deal of tension about the ritual that surrounds the Lottery traditions in Shirley Jackson s short story, The Lottery. Out of fear and superstition, the lottery ceremony continues to exist. In short, the lottery is more of a tradition rather than a ritual at the point we witness in the story, but out of respect and fear for tradition, the towns folks are more than willing to commit an act of mass violence, simply for the sake of a tradition. Born in San Francisco, California on December 14, 1916, Shirley Hardie Jackson was born to Leslie and Geraldine Jackson. Jackson was raised in quite a traditional and well off household, which helped develop themes for later short stories. (Alessio 114) As a young child Jackson loved the subject of witchcraft, and she often spent hours reading various books. She spent a decent amount of her childhood writing poetry and short stories, and eventually moved up north and attended the University of Rochester. (Biography.com) After completing her first year of college, Jackson decided to take a year off and focus on her literature work before moving to a new college; Syracuse University. During her brief pause in her education Jackson would at a minimum, write a thousands of words a day to improve her work. Once the two were married, Hyman received a job as a professor at Bennington College in North Bennington, Vermont where the two settled and also modeled the setting for her well known short storyThe Lottery. • 3. The Effect Of Salmon Kills On The Klamath 1.Salmon is everything was written about the 2002 fish kill on the Klamath river. There were several factors that lead to the writing of salmon is everything. The most important of which was that there was a lack of awareness in the community. The play was written so that people outside of the native communities could better understand how the fishkill had effected those communities. The second objective was to help and bring together the different viewpoints on the Klamath. I think that this play was necessary because it helped to educate the local communities as well as bring the various viewpoint together on to one stage. 2.Salmon is everything include the perspective of most of the parties involved on the Klamath. it shows the viewpoints ... • 4. The Theory Of Personality Traits The study of personality is very important in the field of psychology because it aims to provide an account for individuality of human beings (Pervin and John, 1999). There are many psychological definitions which attempt to explain personality in terms of characteristics or typical qualities of an individual. Gordon Allport, defined it as a dynamic organization, inside the person, of psychophysical systems that create the person s characteristic patterns of behavior, thoughts and feelings (Allport, 1961, p. 11). Throughout the existence of this idea, psychologists have attempted to find ways to assess personality, creating different tests and theories, for example the Big Five Model of personality traits. This model, also known as the Five Factor Model (FFM), included five main personality traits: openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism. The FFM was developed by Costa and McCrae (1985; 1989; 1992; 1997), who are argued to be the most distinguished psychologists in the area of personality. One of the main criticisms of this model is that it isn t universal across all cultures and that it is not the right approach to assessing personality among different cultures of the world. Culture is very important in the area of psychology and there have been many definitions of it throughout the centuries. Edward Burnett Tyler (1871/1996), a British anthropologist, is believed to have offered the first definition of culture in his field of study. He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Carter Aarestad Research Papers Carter Aarestad was born on May 24, 1996 into something he would do for the rest of his life; farming. Farming may sound pretty simple, but deep down there are a lot of things a farmer does. Before you can become a farmer, you have to learn how to farm. There are three main things you need to learn. You need to learn how to plant, spray, and harvest. Carter started learningwhen he was really young. He started out by riding in the combines, helping out without being asked, and learning about being responsible. It all started when Carter was still in diapers, his dad would bring him out into the field and he would ride with him in the combines. There were times where he would get really tired and pass out by his dad s feet while he watched the rows go into the header. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Carter had to learn how to properly mix each chemical for each crop. In order for Carter to drive the sprayer, he first needed to learn how to operate it.To operate the sprayer you need to make sure you re in the right field so you don t spray the wrong crop, that you re using the right chemical, and you have to make sure the weather conditions are right. The crop can not have just been rained on and there can t be any wind. It needs to be a nice, calm day. After learning all the basics, Carter is finally ready to take care of his own fields, and his own house. Knowing more about plants helps him grow his own garden. When it comes to weeds in his yard he knows what to use in order to kill them. So now that he is able to do all of these things properly he can be an official hired man of the farm. He also has the ability to teach others how to farm, not to mention the degree of Farm Management he will get at college he will learn even more. • 6. Why We Should Study Chimpanzees Animals such as chimpanzees have rights. Even though they may not be humans, they are living creatures. Jane Goodall watches the videotape of chimpanzees which inspires her to visit them. She decides to go visit them and later finds out how depressed the chimpanzees were. They were living in small cages with nothing to do. No toys, no being around any other chimpanzees, nothing. Jane then visits another lab where only baby chimps were playing around with toys and other chimpanzees, but the older chimps were trapped inside cages. People who work with lab animals should understand the animals behaviors. Whether it s good or bad, knowing this should be mandatory when people work with them. Since chimpanzees are smart, similar to humans, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Critical Analysis on a Tina Modotti Photograph Essay example Critical Analysis on a Tina Modotti Photograph Tina Modotti was from a very poor working class society. She was brought up in the northeast part of Italy, in Udine, Friuli. She was born at the tail end of the industrial revolution, in 1896. However, you could say, by all means, that her village hadn t changed the slightest since the seventh century. She lived vigorously throughout her childhood, working endless hours in a silk textile factory to earn a cash flow and to support the family through starvation. After their father had abandoned them when Tina was twelve and fled to America, the land of dreams, to repeat, Tina was the family s sole breadwinner, and played an essential role in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finally, the texture and even the tone had a great deal of contrast in the photograph. Again, there is evidence of a extremely rough background and very rugged working class hands. The rough puppeteer hands represent the government, you could say she uses the rough hands to symbolise masculinity, power and even toughness. Moreover, the other hand is similar, however, there are differences. It represents the citizens; it is feeble, strangled in wire and being controlled by the other hand, the government . To conclude, the textures play a key role in the development of the idea of power, as well as the contrast in lighting. Tina Modotti grew up in an extremely marginalised and poor environment. The way the government didn t help her family during their rough periods and suffocating them in to labour would have been one of the several reasons that influenced her. Equally important, her personal experiences of constant labour and hunger would have made her come to the conclusion of disliking the government. In my opinion, the way the government had no control over her dropping out of school and letting her go into child labour would have influenced her to produce works that comments on marginalisation in society, the depression and the repression of working class ... They re native to the rainforests in central and West Africa and are also located in the sub Saharan Africa ( African ). Elephants are herbivores, meaning they only consume plants for nutrients. They begin the extracellular digestion process when the food enters through the mouth. They break it down mechanically with their teeth. It then travels down their esophagus, into their stomachs, and then makes its way down to their intestines. Elephantintestines can reach up to 19 meters (64 feet). The tendons connect their muscles to their bones. All together, these structures control how the elephant is able to stand, walk, bend, and other such movements. Whether large or small, each camp was known for its brutality. During these harsh times it was hard to ignore what was going on, however no one could prevent it from happening. People feared for their lives when the thought of Gulags came up, as referenced in the book 1984, written by George Orwell. The term Gulag is a Russian acronym for Glavany Upravlenie Lagerey meaning, camp . These camps operated for two main reasons: a way to deal with prisoners and unwanted individuals; and also helped build the infrastructure by forced labor (Hayes). During Joseph Stalin s campaign the camps grew tremendously. The camps varied in size, however the largest camps were located in the most extreme regions in the country. Work was mostly manual, unskilled, and inefficient. While working in the camps, prisoners had to work for their food. The more work they did, the more food they earned. Thirdly, I will need to specify which tactics will be used to influence my audience. Finally, I will write the memo that I plan on submitting to my audience. 1. Request: The industry of construction is an industry where you have to be precise and very accurate. This is why I will be requesting that the superiors in my company purchase a piece of software Chief Architect and revert from using their current software Sketch up . This task will require persuasion because the owners of the company think that using open source software like Sketch up will be sufficient. The company has been using Sketch up for over five years and their thought process is that its free, it works, and there is no need to pay for other software. One of the designers and architects at the firm has tried to ask for this software in the past and the bosses turned the idea down because the software was too expensive. The designer didn t provide any evidence or provided little logic for his argument, which is why he was unsuccessful in influencing the superiors. In the following investigation, the following question will be addressed: In what ways did economic and political issues in Germany between 1922 and 1932 contribute to Hitler s rise to power? On the other hand, if this were to have existed in a dictatorship, one would merely get used to how something went because that was how life would be from now on if there was a dictator present. With all the mess and distress already present, the body of laws present in a democracy is much slower to be established, while it usually took much less time with a dictator. Rather than one person having to agree on a law or come up with one, a democracy requires the whole body instead to ratify or accept it. This is due to the fact that your own personal needs must be given up in a dictatorship, while they are respected and valued on the other hand in a democracy. Therefore, seeing from all these changes, the alteration in government that the German government faced must have produced overwhelming challenges for Germany as a whole. They must completely abandon the norm for them and accustom themselves once again to a new way of life. Not only will these bring upon conflicts within the human population, but in all aspects including political, social, and economic qualities. Germany s majority is Christian and this decision will negatively influence their life. In my assumption, the only reason Germany can show such growth in GDP is because the country is taking too much advantage of their social structure. After World War II, Germany built a social structure, which includes national health care for everyone, unemployment payments for everyone and social security payments. As my father as an economist always says: The game is still the same, but the rules have changed dramatically. • 22. The Values Of Women In The Elizabethan Era Defining what a female was supposed to be and do was an act of Renaissance culture. For most of Renaissance society, women represented the following virtues which, importantly, having their meaning in relation to the male; obedience, silence, sexual chastity, piety, humility, constancy, and patience. The most important being sexual chastity and piety. The Elizabethan age regarded women s sexuality as a form of currency. In England s social structure currency was a means to power. A womans virginity was something to be bargained for, and when the time was right, sold to the highest bidder. In modern day, this slightly resembles prostitution, but during Elizabethan times selling a daughter s virginity was the quickest way up the social ladder. During this time, the sacrifice of virginity implies marriage. Young women rarely married on the idea of love alone, due to the father s interests in finding an ideal husband that will strengthen the family s position within the community. Author of Shakespeare s Women, Angela Pitt states if for some reason it was impractical for a girl to marry she was encouraged to enter a nunnery, (15). English women were predominantly ignored outside of the matrimonial and spiritual world. A woman could not pledge allegiance to anything besides the church or her husband. To do otherwise, she would be shunned by English society and by the Church. Women were viewed as a source of sin and unfaithfulness, as Pitt writes, women were... temptresses who would lead men down the primrose path to fortification. Their women s bodies proclaimed that they were the living symbols of Man s First Disgrace. Everyone knew that because it was not only in the Book of Genesis but in the New Testament where St. Paul spoke of women as being inferior to men, (Pitt 15 16). The only thing a woman could do to escape this harsh judgment was to either enter a nunnery or marry and serve a man. By doing this, she was serving two lords: God and her husband. To not serve a husband through consummation and not serve God by entering a nunnery, would be viewed as a complete rejection of God. Thus, women were not only restrained by the political standards enforced men, but also the consciousness of the Church that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Roe vs. Wade is considered today, to be an avant garde decision, exemplifying ?judicial activism?. One important topic debated by many pro choice and pro lifers, is: at what point does a fetus become human? This is one of the determining factors of the controversy surrounding abortion. Pro life activists claim that life begins at conception, stressing the idea that a human embryo is self developing. And since it cannot become anything other than human, it is a living human. Albeit a fetus may technically of human origin, it does not have the ability to conduct a conscious thought. At that point, the biological qualities of an embryo are equivalent to a sesame seed, or an egg. Can we really say that every time we eat an egg, it is like eating an unborn child? India s Tobacco Advertising Ban India s Tobacco Advertising Ban The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that worldwide, five million tobacco users die annually and estimates that one million Indians die each year prematurely from tobacco use (2015). As late at 2009, India was the world s second largest consumer and third largest producer of tobacco (Economist, 2009, p. 5). In an attempt to reduce consumption, India introduced its first adverting ban on tobacco in 1990, followed in 2003 by the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) to close loopholes and further regulate tobacco adverting. This paper examines the arguments for and against these advertising bans and explores whether or not tobacco creates a conflict of interest when governments profit from the tobacco industry. For the Ban The most compelling reason to ban tobacco advertising is the growing body of evidence linking tobacco ads to increased tobacco use, particularly children. Studies following a 1998 settlement prohibiting U.S. tobacco companies from targeting American youth have shown a steady decline, with the lowest levels in forty years of teenage smoking reported in 2015. Despite COTPA, Indian youth s exposure to cigarette advertising has increased in part because of aggressive point of sale marketing, promotional support of music and sporting events, through social media, and smoking portrayed in Bollywood films. The capital was suffering from food shortages, and that combined with long working hours for the munition workers caused work strikes to occur. This is seen as the real reason behind the fall of Germany, a lack of food and thus lack of mutations. With high morale, the German High Command had its last throw of the dice in the final offensive. But the combination of American economic might with French and British experience would be too much for the Germans. Even if they could break through to Paris, they would have no way of capturing it. While the Germans fought bravely, it was a losing battle they were carrying on. On August 4th Hitler received an Iron Cross 1st Class for personal bravery and general merit. • 40. Essay On Cherokee Tribe To begin with, the Cherokee tribe was one of the three primary Native American tribes in South Carolina that called themselves the real people. Upward in the mountains, they lived in these villages called longhouses. For the girls, their daily lives consisted of doing work in the field, planting and hoeing corn, then harvesting it. On the other hand, the boy s daily lives consisted of being taught to fish and hunt. Their food was examples of fruits, nuts, corn, pole beans, squash, pumpkins, bottle gourds, and tobacco. Next, the Catawba tribe was another one of the three primary Native American tribes in South Carolina that called themselves the river people. They used Carolina clay to make their pottery which they were known for. The Catawba dwellers lived in villages that had an open rounding on the top. The Catawbas were primarily farmers because every day they planted crops by the river, fished and hunted. Therefore, the Yemassee tribe was the third primary tribe in South Carolina that was from Spanish Florida. Throughout the summer, they lived on a beach, staying in Wigwams concealed in palmetto leaves. However, during the fall, winter, and spring they stayed in wattle and daub homes with a roof of leaves like the Cherokee. How does Steinbeck present Curley s wife in Of Mice and Men ? In this essay I will show how Steinbeck presents Curley s wife in a number of ways throughout the novel Of Mice and Men , showing both how she is portrayed as a nice girl as well as a floozy . This novel was set during the great depression and is written around two key themes of the American dream, which every ranch hand owned their own patch of land, and loneliness, the only common feeling that each individual in the novel feared. Prejudice leads to her loneliness as she has no rights and feels isolated. Every worker on the ranch appears to try to avoid Curley s wife as they fear the consequences that Curley could put upon them if he discovers anything suspicious. Because of this, she s a lonely character and seeks attention from others as Curley doesn t give her any; however, she sometimes comes across as being desperate without it being her intention. One of the workers on the ranch describes her as a tart and a woman that would sell out for twenty bucks this would influence the other workers not to get involved with her by making Curley s wife s life on the ranch a challenging one in order for people to understand her intentions of being friendly rather than desperate. The negative feelings towards Curley s wife start changing after she reveals more about herself in Crooks room. I feel that we should invest our tax dollars in our own city, and worry about the future of our own child, by keeping Akron schools in the community of Akron. Purpose Garfield high along with Kenmore High school have been slotted to be torn down. There are no dates as of yet to when the projects will start. He knows what affect and toll it would take on people to see their own kind to stand up and fight for equality of a different race. Most people would think he s crazy, but actually he s just trying to fight for justice to end slavery because what he believes that is right. The reason why I say he s a hero not a terrorist is because if you define a terrorist and line it up with what John Brown believes in and what he wanted to accomplish then you would think he s a hero also. Some of the most prominent followers of Carnegie s examples were John D. Rockefeller, John D. Consumerism leads to self gratification and the loss of life s important values such as friendship, love and religion; this is an ever growing issue that manipulates and deceives society and has done so since the beginning of the technological age. • 49. The Influence Of The British African Colonies On The... With more of an idea of what the inland was like, the powers decided to meet up and split Africa among themselves. It was at this meeting of nations that Britain (the main English speaking empire of the time) collected around 20 colonies in Africa. Each of these colonies were operated under the English language. Additionally, English speaking immigrants flooded these newly organized colonies. This influx of the English language not only spread the English language, but it also influenced it. Again the powers that conquered were influenced by the places that they conquered. The influences that were given by the British African colonies were much more direct now. Now English had been formed, and they were spoken together with the indigenous languages. As with Aramaic and Latin, the invading force picked up several words and language additions. Africa offered a plethora of indigenous languages to influence the English language. Inland Africa also exposed the English speaking colonists to various things that they had never witnessed before. For example Zebra was a word with African origins, because to this point the Europeans had not seen this creature. They took what the locals called it and added it to the English language. This happened with a lot of words that are now commonly used in the English language. Banjo, banana, chimpanzee, impala, jazz, jenga, jumbo, safari, tango, tilapia, yam, and zombie are all examples of African words that were added to the English language. ... This bias is due to the human brains coping skills with all the information flowing around us. Our limbic system in the brain makes immediate decisions that are attached to our emotions (rewards feel good), while our frontal area of the brain makes the executive decisions. This bias leads to many businesses that profit of it, like credit companies offering high interest loans, companies offering free gifts for business down the road, and even Amazon promising same day delivery.
