The Truth About Human Trafficking
The Truth About Human Trafficking
Human Trafficking is a modern day form of slavery involving the illegal trade of people for
exploitation or commercial gain (Human Trafficking). The term human trafficking evolved from
slavery in the early 1900 s and continued to become a global market over the past 100 years. There are
several different types of human trafficking such as forced labor, sexual exploitation, people
smuggling, and the harvesting of organs for commercial profit (Types of Human Trafficking.). Victims
of human trafficking are stripped of their identity and are denied their natural, human rights. There are
a total of 27 million enslaved women, men, and children all over the world. The average age of a
trafficking victim around the world is 12 years old (Human Trafficking The A21 Campaign). As a
society that values an individual s freedom and rights, the awareness and consequences associated
with human trafficking must be increased, as many governments do not contribute enough resources
in order to combat the various forms of human trafficking that occurs among nations.
Human trafficking began when the traditional form of slavery evolved into the forced prostitution of
women. In 1904, the International Agreement for the Suppression of White Slave Traffic was put into
place. This law was created to prevent women and children from being trafficked into sex trade. The
League of Nations was created in 1927 to discuss international issues, such as human

Organized Crime In Hollywood
In today s society, when people think of organized crime they typically think of the Italian mob or the
Russian mafia. This is because they are the more popular groups that society sees on the big screen
and on television, as well as the ones that people talk about the most. According to the Crime Museum
, organized crime is a group of individuals working together to illicit profit through illegal and often
violent methods . Over the past decades, Hollywood s film industries have fueled America s obsession
with organized crime or mafia style films. For these types of gangster or mob movies to be effective,
they must allow the audience to build a connection with one of the characters in the film, who is of
questionable morals and sleazy behavior, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These groups included the famous Forty Thieves who were based in New York. As the years went by
organized crime groups began to flourish more and more. The most notable group was the Italian
Americans, which formed the Mafia. However, it wasn t until Prohibition that these groups became
successful and established. The mobsters in the 1920 s and 30 s, consisted mostly of Italian Americans
which controlled a great deal of the organized crime in New York and Chicago. The idea of
prohibition became ironic because instead of creating a respectable and law abiding society by
outlawing alcohol it assisted in creating one of the greatest crime filled period s in America s history.
Prohibition also helped to establish the famous mob leaders we know today, such as Lucky Luciano
and Al Capone. According to Hilary Parkinson in the article Prohibition and the Rise of the American
Gangster , from Los Angeles to Chicago to New York, organized crime syndicates supplied
speakeasies and underground establishments with large quantities of beer and liquor . These
underground networks formed a virtual river for alcohol. The prohibition age formed a widespread
network of crime bosses that worked together for a single cause. This was to buy, trade and sell

Comparing Dante Alighieri s Inferno And The Faerie Queene
Both Dante Alighieri s Inferno and Edmund Spenser s The Faerie Queene depict wooded forests
wrought with transformed men as trees. In the Inferno and The Faerie Queene an existential
conundrum of compromised identities leaves Pier della Vigne and Fraudubio sans human choice.
Dehumanized and disfigured, the individuals that comprise the trees still retain human qualities like
talking, breathing, and, even, bleeding under certain circumstances. Within each space, whether it is
considered a definite locus amoenus or a locus horribilis, the most significant human attribute to
which these trees cling is bleeding and thus they have a small handful of feelings and emotions still
within each of them. Instead of their ripped branches symbolizing death and decay, the breaking of the
branches within Inferno 13 and The Faerie Queene 1.2, give the trees life as if nothing has changed.
While the bleeding infers a loss of identity in both, redeemable only for one of the two, it also lets
their stories be told. Their stories, sad in nature, have redemptive qualities and move the two pilgrims
that listen to their doleful tales. The Inferno illustrates the journey of Dante the pilgrim as he travels
through the nine circles of Hell wherein each circle objectifies a specific sin like lust, gluttony, greed
or violence; there the sinners endure eternal punishment. In the seventh circle, the circle of violence,
Dante interacts with the suicides and profligates. Condemned to live eternally as

Mendacity In A Cat On A Hot Tin Roof
Mendacity is the trend to lie. In the case of A Cat on a Hot Tin Roof by Tennessee Williams, the Pollitt
family is living in deception. Living in mendacity can cause competition in between family. The
Pollitt are an un united family. They don t have communication, the family lacks honesty. Mendacity
plays a big role in Brick s life; on the play he blames falsehood for the cause of him becoming an
alcoholic and marrying Maggie under certain circumstances.
Big Daddy the wealthiest man in town needs to play the good man, lying that he stills loves Big
Mama. There s no communication neither love in their marriage. That s right, a ball a ball! Hell! I

him to get fat and ugly so she can stop being obsessed with him.
In the Cat on a Hot Tin Roof by Tennessee Williams, mendacity plays a large role in the Pollitt family.
The lies that they live in makes them lack trust and have no communication. Brick s life is to be a blur
due to mendacity; he drinks and hides his feeling. Maggie is affected by mendacity through Brick. Her
own husband makes her life a living hell but she still loves him. Big Daddy s marriage with Big
Mamma is a lie as well, there s no love. In both of these marriages mendacity plays a big role; lacking

Examples Of Being An Outsider In Society
What is an outsider? An outsider is a person who is not excepted by or is isolated by society. Have you
ever been an outsider ? Everyone experiences a situation where they weren t able to fit in. The feeling
of not being able to fit it is universal. Not everyone is the same and in certain situations you may not
be able to bond with everyone. Everyone is focused on being judged or being the person who is
judging someone. If you are not like everyone in your society group, those people don t except you.
Nowadays our society feels that if you aren t up to people s expectations, you are known to be an
outsider . Being an outsider is universal because not everyone is social, not everyone can afford nice
things and not everyone is popular. In our society everyone expects to be the same, however, no one is
ever going to be the exact same. Everyone has different beliefs and different interests. Today people
judge the nice stuff people can afford and the way people dress. In the story, The Doll s House , there
were two girls known as the Kelvey sisters and they were really poor. They were dressed in bits given
to her by the people for whom she worked (Mansfield 203). Nowadays people judge you on
appearance and if you are dressed sloppy you are more likely to be made fun of. If you cannot afford
the up to date things people have a reason that they don t want to talk to you. If you are wealthy you
are more likely to be judgmental. Not all people are like this but it is known

France Causes Financial Fret
In the western world the terms president, and prime minister means, for lack of a better term, the head
of a country, the difference is that between Canada and the United States they have one or the other.
Back in the Eastern world of Western Europe, France was the first major European country to adopt a
semi presidential system giving them both a prime minister and a president to oversee it all (Allen et
al. 109). This is accomplished by giving the president the power of political figure head for the

Abysmal Family Life Of Working-Class Immigrants In...
1) Though the novella is titled Maggie, much of the narrative focuses on people other than Maggie.
So, why do you think Crane named the story after her? I believed Crane named the story after Maggie
because using all the other characters it was giving the readers a background. It was giving us the
understanding of what Maggie was growing up in and why she was making the decisions she was
making. In the beginning it was focused on other characters but towards the end it shifts focus to
Maggie and the analyzation of her actions. In the title the way it is worded it also suggests that Maggie
isn t the only one that has lived this lifestyle. 2) Why was Crane apparently so committed to
replicating the dialect and discussing the abysmal family life of working class immigrants in the
Bowery in 1880s/1890s NYC? Crane was giving the abysmal family life because again he was trying
to give readers a background as well as a peak into the life of these people. He was explaining and
analyzing the level of literacy buy writing passages how they would sound if you said it out loud. He
was also showing how hard it was for people growing up in that lifestyle. 3) What, in Crane s telling,

household that was abusive and it showed why the children were doing the things they were and Pete

Social Media Body Image Issue
Is Social Media the cause of Body Image Issues? Whether they realize it or not, social media effects
everyone that is involved with it. It is an outlet that almost every person uses on a day to day basis.
They put their life on a screen for everyone to look at and silently judge. It may seem as if everyone
has their life together, but that is just the side they want you to see. When people put their lives on the
internet, in most cases, they need a sort of affirmation from the people who view it. They crave a
comment, a like or even a share. When their post doesn t attract that attention, it s seems like a let
down. Everyone wants approval from their friends and family, even if they resort to posting it online
to make their life seem perfect . It s common for people to see other posts and compare their lives to
them. Social Media can be a place that targets people and tears them down. It can be a place that puts
an unrealistic view of what others are going through and, in turn, makes you question your own
happiness. Social Media has completely shaped the way people view others based on their body
image. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It created a platform for the haters to use to post anonymous hate comments while in the comfort of

themselves as well. They think that if they say bad things about other peoples bodies that it will make
them feel better about their own. It s a constant battle between hating on others and hating on
themselves. The solution for body image hate is ultimately going to have to start with ones self.
Believing that you are the best you can be and that you are not going to determine how you feel about
yourself because of a persons comment on a picture. If everyone would do this and believe in

A Brief Note On Crime And Public Health
Crime and public health
Globally, about 5.8 million people die from injuries each year (1). Victims of crime may suffer
physical injuries from assaults, violence and dangerous driving. Other types of crimes, like burglary
and robbery, although they do not have direct physical impacts, cause stress, anxiety and poor mental
health to the victims. A recent longitudinal study also found that fear of crime was associated with
poorer mental health, reduced physical activities, and lead to a lower quality of life (2).
Crime and fear of crime are associated with the physical environment, social environment, individual
factors (for example, minority, women, and young or older people), time of day, and surveillance (3).

Street light and energy efficiency
Globally, the use of public lighting contributes to about 2.3% of the consumption of electricity (7).
Better management of public lighting energy usage would contribute to lower electricity usage and
lower emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2). A pilot project at Croatian city of Rijeka (8) has shown that
the improvement of public lighting which includes change of lamps and power regulation can reduce
energy usage, CO2 emissions and city expenditure. At the same time, it also helped to reduce light
pollution.
Changes of street lighting regime
As most of the street lights installed in the past are less energy efficient, there is room for
improvement on reducing energy wastage by examining how the street lights are provided. This could
have triggered the changes of provision of night time street lighting in the UK. In the past 5 years,
there have been multiple reports (9 14) about the Highway Agency and local councils switching off
streets light during night time, who have cited as the main reasons to cut carbon emissions, to meet
environmental targets, and to cut costs.
The three main approaches adopted by local authorities to reduce

Leadership Team Building in the Project Environment Essay
Introduction
Team building benefits the team as a whole. When people who rarely work together are forced to
communicate, they can discover that they enjoy the interaction and continue to network and bond with
different people back at the office. For many, working in team is difficult, for others is easier than
working alone, not many people are able to respond to the commitment involved in working in a team
environment. And there are usually time imbalances that are generated within work teams. Those who
previously may not have been getting along will have to forget their differences in order to overcome
an obstacle and their dislike is diminished as they work together for a common goal.

Leadership : it allows motivation and encouragement and therefore it enable members to be clear
about the goals that are to be achieved. The leaders are those that display the target and transmit it to
the entire group, establishing the required performance to achieve goals.
Compensation: each member must perceive that receives (not only in financial terms) the recognition
he or she deserves, often the success may decrease if the team does not feel that is receiving the right
rewards, like bonuses or allowing them to strengthen their commitment to the team .
Commitment: once team members establish links with other members who are identified with the
team vision a sense of belonging is generated and it creates engagement, a feature that represents
much more cohesion between team members.
It is important to consider that having clear and shared goals is the greatest incentive for the team not
only to work well together, but being effective and focused. Promoting teamwork involves developing
motivational strategies that involve the participation of all members, where each member understand
that their contribution is necessary and required to achieve the team s objectives. (Heathfield, 2014)
Moreover, we can say that people who participate in a team have some of the following
characteristics:
Knowledge of the team s vision and mission in which they participate.
Interest in what happens in the life of the team.
Contribution to expected results.

This is the story of Jerry Weintraub, a man who mastered the art of the schmooze and had an eye for

reputation of Hollywood s smooth talker, deal maker, and show headliner. By establishing legendary
acts into mainstream media such as Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Led Zeppelin, John Denver, Brad

The Explorer Poem Analysis
The Explorer was written during the civil rights movement when Brooks started to focus on writing
for the black community. Through the blood, sweat, and sacrifice her community experiences every
day, she is inspired to write this particular piece to show that African Americans, although are scared,
will keep fighting and searching for their utopia. Starting from stanza one, the word frayed stands out
the most. Repeated twice, it immediately tells the reader that the situation is not that of hope and is life
changing to the main character. Still spot also references that the main character is looking for a quiet
setting. The theme of quiet and peace is renounced in stanza two as words such as velvet peace and
willy hush also go along with the peace and quiet theme. Now, the reader gains a better sense of the
financial condition of the main character. Tatters makes the reader think that the main character is poor
and financially challenged, and knowing Brooks purpose of the poem is about revitalizing hope for the
black community, the main character is most likely black male. Moreover, Brooks inserts a metaphor
that comprises most of the stanza and ultimately depicts that the character in the poem is trying to find
peace and quiet both within a house and his mind (Poem 3). Next in stanza three, the main purpose of
this stanza is to describe what exactly is happening to the main character. Tipping down the scrambled
halls reveals that the main character does not

An Oral Interview With Vanna Moore Essay
Reflection Paper
On September of 2016, I did an oral interview with Vanna Moore about her military past and Vanna s
ties to Texas. Over the whole interview, I asked her questions about her experience in Afghanistan and
how it shaped her views of her state of Texas. Through her interview, Vanna touched on her feelings
about Texas, the military, American culture, and life after military. At times, she seemed comfortable
and at ease sharing her thoughts, and other moments seemed more difficult to get through. This
interview helped me to understand that military service can really shape a person s world view, both
abroad and at home. Additionally, after this oral interview experience I feel like I know how to
effectively use oral histories in my future classrooms. During the beginning of the interview I asked
Vanna What do you think the difference is between West Texas and other regions of the state? At first,
her answers consisted of a lot of umms , but after she got more comfortable, she said, So, it s kinda

Rayouf sent two paragraphs describing her idea to Unicode. Her proposal was much shorter than
typical emoji requests, which can include pages and pages of details and designs. Still, she heard back
from a member of Unicode, who offered to help her shape up her idea for formal consideration. An
artist created the headscarf emoji design for her.
Rayouf s proposal would create a headscarf emoji that could be used with the many human emojis that

formally reviewed by Unicode in November. If it is approved, the new emoji could be announced as

What the media fails to accurately portray is that feminists strive to promote equality for both women
and men. Utilizing feminism as their secret weapon to add diversity to the overly male punk scene, the
riot grrrls managed to successfully promote women s rights with politically charged tunes that
empowered women to make a change.
However, despite of its fabricated intentions, the media proposed a valid argument against the
movement: why the movement did not last over the years. One often overlooked aspect of Riot grrrl
was that although it claimed to revive the feminist appeal by standing up for ALL women, the majority
of its efforts seemed to appeal more in favor of middle class Caucasian women. Members with a
variety of ethnic backgrounds who identified themselves as riot grrrls felt that that their adversities
and struggles as both minorities and women were not equally put into perspective as much as those of
their counterparts. This flaw within the movement has negatively affected its social longevity and
overall appeal to a wider range of women, yet the dedication to spread awareness on intimate struggles
and successful establishment of a community within the movement have proven to still be both
effective as well as inspiring in today s modern society. Without a doubt, the riot grrrl movement took

Corporate Overview Of The Automotive Industry
Corporate Overview
Automotive Industry
The automotive industry is widespread globally with a wide range of organizations involved in the
following: development, marketing, manufacturing, designing, and sales. This analysis will take a
further look at automakers in the industry, more specifically General Motors (GM), Volkswagen
(VLKAY, Honda, Nissan, Toyota. Beginning around the 1890s, the automotive industry has evolved
and undergone shift changes in consumer trends, product development, marketing, and industry
competition shifts. Some of the major changes have been the result of: Regulatory, Safety, Economy,
Reliability, and Environmental.

The business cycle for the Automotive Industry is filled with long product cycles and large sums of
capital investments. The long cycles of products and the large capital requirements make planning in
the automotive industry quite complex. Furthermore, the automotive industry outcomes are highly
dependent on the global economic state. For example, as mentioned in a PWC article, In 2015,
[Automotive industry results] turned sour as global economic conditions worsened. This trend makes
any new commitment to invest in a country or region a risky one that must be deliberately crafted
using a clear eyed assessment of market conditions. (Jullens, Singh, Hirsh, Wilk, 2016) Thus, from the
business cycle, it can be presumed that the automotive industry is foremost a growth industry but at a
secondary level it is a cyclical growth, making it a Cyclical Growth Industry.
Potentials for the automotive industry are more prominent in eco friendly initiatives and technological
improvements for vehicular automation. For example, Tesla has been a company that has really sought
to revolutionize the automotive industry by introducing cars that are more environmentally friendly.
Furthermore, as mentioned, in a PWC article, the intelligent car is fast moving from the drawing
boards to the streets (Jullens, Singh, Hirsh, Wilk, 2016). This intelligent car, while

Ryuichi Tamura
The Second World War ended in a tragic defeat for the Axis Powers; Japan in particular suffered two
atomic bombs and two to three million casualties. Immediately after the war, destruction and despair
spread across the nation, and the citizens of Japan suffered depression and hopelessness. Ryuichi
Tamura (the last names comes first in Japanese, so his first name is Ryuichi), an editor and member of
a literary group named The Waste Land, wrote a poem called A Vertical Coffin in response to Japan s
civilization at the time. This eerie, dark poem seems to reflect the hopelessness of the country, and
escalate the depression within the nation. However, I interpreted it otherwise. Ryuichi Tamura cleverly
utilized literature, language, and culture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In pre war Japanese culture, death was never seen as a terribly horrific event. Though it was still a sad
event, death was also thought to be respectful and honorable. It was believed that people who have
lived a full life and had fulfilled their purpose end their journey with death. Though the cause of death
could be feared, death itself was not scary; therefore, suicide was always an option. In ancient times,
respectful samurais were known to be prideful and courageous. They, however, would choose to slice
their own stomachs and commit suicide rather than be executed or killed. They believed that suicide
would act as a compensation for their incapability to survive and protect their pride and dignity. If
they cut themselves, they were thought to be brave and courageous. Even during the war, it was
thought to be an honorable act to crash land a plane onto enemy grounds, sacrificing himself to fight
against an enemy. The kamikaze flew to their deaths believing that their actions were courageous.
Death was not scary; Japanese people did not fear death (based on personal stories and experiences
with the Japanese). This, though it could be seen as admirable, was an issue of concern for Tamura.
After the war had ended, people of Japan resort to suicide without too much hesitation. To prevent
this, Tamura scolds them in his poem, explaining to them that they are not worthy of death and
attempts to discourage them from

A Research Study On Infant Memory Development
Infant memory development is one of the topics of PSY103 lectures, and is also one of the significant
issues in Psychology. Dr. Jane Herbert was the lecturer of this topic and she drew my attention and
interest to infant memory development and infantile amnesia. Infantile amnesia is the failure to recall
events from babyhood and early childhood (Hayne Jack, 2010). In other words, according to Henri
Henri (1898 cited in Hayne, 2004), most of the children and adults can only recollect the earliest
memory between 2 and 4 years old. Early experience is a crucial element in understanding human
development as psychologists stated its influences would last for long (Hayne Jack, 2010). The early
experience plays an important role in brain, social, behavioural development (Hayne, 2004). Many
scholars and psychologists at or beyond the University of Sheffield has conducted numerous research
in this field, and they aimed to study infant memory ability and age related changes in various kind of
aspects with their research impacting society in many ways. In this essay, the academic impacts of
psychological research in connection with infant memory development will be discussed first. This
will be then followed by the discussion about the social and economic impacts, which benefit the
society.
Firstly, the academic impacts of psychological research will be discussed. Psychological research in
infant memory development has further developed the existing theory and expanded the

A Summary On Corporate Governance
Like de Kluyver argued in his publish (A primer on Corporate Governance, 2009), there is a
presumption that, in making a business decision, the directors acted on an informed basis, in good
faith, and in the honest belief that the action was taken in the best interest of the corporation.
However, even though the bar has been set, the definition of best interest of the corporation is open for
every business directors to interpret. In the case of Enron, the rule had been bent so hard that it finally
broke. The company was originally established as an energy provider in the US. In 1970s, the CEO of
Enron seized the chance of US energy market deregulation and navigated the company into a new and
attractive business energy trading. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of the massive company structure, when the bubble broke in 2001, a numerous amount of
people took the hit. The stockholders of Enron scandal include company employees, board of
directors, Arthur Anderson accounting firm, Vinson Elkins law firm, and the general public of the
society.
There were specific internal control protocols and external audit agreements designed to prevent the
tragic from happening. However, just like my classmate Likhita said during the class discussion
(Thought and Discourse, September 16, 2015), People will always find the loophole . In terms of
internal control failing, first of all, the malfunction of the board of directors would be our primary
concern. Enron Board of Directors clearly failed to oversight company operations. In United States
Senate Subcommittee report (The role of the board of the directors in Enron s collapse, Permanent
subcommittee on investigations, 2002), committee memebrs indicated that The Board witnessed
numerous indications of questionable practices by Enron management over several years, but chose to
ignore them to the detriment of Enron shareholders, employees and business associates. Moreover, the
Board of Directors directly violated Enron s code of ethics and agreed the company from trading with
several SPE (includes LJM1) run by its own CFO, Andrew Fastow. Such transactions were not

Is The Vice President s Comments About Cost And Schedule...
1. Are the vice president s comments about cost and schedule variance correct?
Yes! As we have seen in the case study the Spokane industries are very particular about the earned
value reports, as we seen in the reports that the Franklin electronics provided is seemed to be a very
basic according their view. The values of cost variance at the 2nd month are like 6K, 2K, 3K, 3K, here
the total comes to 14k ($14,000) and the same cost variance in the following month are presented as
7K, 3K, 5K, 10K ($25,000) respectively, so here we can see that the values that were provided in the
2nd month are less than 3/4th of the 3rd month. Comes to the scheduling variance the values given to
the 2nd month are said to be 8K, 1K, 2K, 20K ($31,000), the 3rd month calculations are in the order
12K, 3K, 4K, 26K ($45,000), so by seeing this we can easily say that the scheduling variance is
overrated nearly 50% of its value in the previous month. So, whatever the sponsor said in the case
study is true.
I hope their main aim for the need of these earned value reports is to reduce the interchange meetings
and to finish the project within the basic 3 constraints of a project management. That is why they
opted a formalized project management. From the case study it is very easy for us to make sure that
they believed earned value reports are some techniques to avoid the interchange meetings. The
reduction in interchange meetings automatically reduces time for discussing the completed work

In sport there can be certain reasons as to why people are unable to in sport, cultural, social, historical,
economic or educational. These barriers are referred to as barriers to participation.
Culture barriers are linked to different nationalities, beliefs and religions. There may be rules and
views on who should participate in sport. Some religions do not allow women to participate in sport
altogether, others allow participation if they wear clothes that cover the whole body. In the UK is
limited knowledge of sport from certain cultures. Schools often try to accommodate different cultural

Target groups include women, young people, over 50 s, disabled people and black or ethnic minority
groups. These groups of people are the groups that generally have been the most barriers to
participation. They are focused on increasing opportunities in sport as they are likely to benefit the
most.
Women have always had less involvement in sport than men. There may be reasons as to why women
have less involvement. They may stop playing sport to focus on other thing like having children or a
family. Women with family may also find it difficult due to a lack of money and time. These barriers
can occur at any level of sports continuum from someone who may just want to exercise to keep fit
(participation stage) but feels they can t as the only classes available to them are mixed sex classes
which they are not comfortable with. Other example, of the barriers to women may be that at the
performance or excellence stage lack sponsorship, media coverage and government funding in women
s sport. This in turn means that women are unable to continue sport as a career and are limited to the
level they are able to achieve as they can t live by only playing sports and must get a job. There has
been a large improvement in the amount of women involved in sport since scheme and government
funded activities have been put in place to increase numbers of women s only classes, competitive

Essay on Margaret Hilda Thatcher
Margaret Hilda Thatcher
Margaret Hilda Thatcher s overwhelming sense of self confidence and ambition ruled her life from the
time she was a small child in Grantham, though her Oxford years and during her early years in
politics. It led her to become the first female Prime Minister of Great Britain, and also helped through
her difficult political years as quot;Attila the Hun quot;.
Britain s first female Prime Minister was born on October 13, 1925 in a small room over a grocer s
shop in Grandham, England. Margaret Hilda was the second daughter of Alfred and Beatrice Roberts.
She often stated that she was brought up very strictly:

She enjoyed the tough verbal conflict of parliamentary debates. She had a quick mind and an even
quicker tongue, along with an enormous self confidence. She liked to fight and liked to win.
In 1975, the Conservatives were the first party in Britain to chose a woman as leader and potential
Prime Minister:
It was the backbenchers, not the Leader, or his Shadow Cabinet, who forced a ballot, and it was a
backbenchers candidate who emerged triumphant from it.
When the election was announced on January 23, and in the first ballot Margaret had the support of
only one member of a Shadow Cabinet of 23 she was regarded with suspicion by most of those
managing the party machine at Central Office, and opposed by many in the National Union. In short,
she was an anti establishment candidate. Her campaign manager was a backbencher, backbenchers of
varying shades of opinion made up her campaign committee who voted decisively for
change(Gardiner, 1975, p.204).
In May 1979, Thatcher became the first female Prime Minister of Great
Britain. Her party won again in 1983 and 1987. Thatcher resigned as Prime
Minister and leader of the Conservative Party in November 1990, after loosing the support of the
party. She remained in the House of Commons until 1992. In the same year, Thatcher was made a
Baroness by the queen and became a member of the House of Lords.

Guess What I M Thinking Essay
Poetry, what first comes to mind? If your anything like me, poetry can seem somewhat monotonous,
rather like a locked door exclusive, complicated, and hard to understand. I think poetry tends to be a
big game of Guess what I m thinking! and I hate that game. I m not a mind reader. I think a lot of
people who get excited about poetry are really pretentious. This possibly comes from believing that
they actually can guess what other people are thinking. When we think poetry, we tend to know poetry
by it s traditional forms of having sonnets, ballads, often rhyming (but not always) and they tend to
have a specific and symmetrical structure (APA). Throughout this essay I wanted to consider poetry
through different explorations and how subverting the traditional conventions of poetry might be an
effective way of engagement or in an opposing way of demotivating the reader.
Looking into the explorational work of a highly regarded New Zealand poet and scholar, Selina
Tusitala Marsh, we truly get an insight of someone who goes against the traditional conventions of
poetry. Her collection of poems called Dark Sparring is about ...the journey of Marsh s feelings about
her mother s death wars declared, lists made, a Mantra written, even a printed Ransom Note. Other
poems explain how Marsh took to Muay Thai kickboxing to cope with her grief following the death of
her mother (APA). Looking closely at the poem Ransom Note, it gives the effects of using an

Analysis Of Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Lady With The Dog
For Goodness Sake, Have Faith in Humanity
Humans have a natural ability to know what is right and just and what is wrong. However, people are
tempted on a regular basis, and often times people choose to go against what is right for what they
want at the moment. Nathaniel Hawthorne describes the struggle of one man with his personal
temptations in the short story, Young Goodman Brown . Through a trip into the woods on a dark,
gloomy night, Young Goodman Brown battles between what he knows is right and what sparks his
curiosity what the others and doing in the woods the same theme portrayed in Anton Chekhov s The
Lady with the Dog. In this short story, Young Goodman Brown loses his faith in humanity s ability to
do good when he is convinced the great lie by the dark one . Young Goodman Brown (YGB) is
tempted by the devil throughout the story to remind the reader what is feeding the lie to him. The dark
one is an allegory to the devil, dressed darkly with a serpent shaped staff. Young Goodman Brown
discusses why he thinks he is making a mistake when the dark one tells him that it is okay to go into
the woods because his father and grandfather both did before him. This statement by the traveller
begins a whirlwind of a mixture of lie and truth, confusing Young Goodman Brown. While he is
tempted with the concept of everybody s doing it, the reader realizes that just because others before us
have made mistakes does not mean the mistakes are justifiable for us to

The Importance Of War In The Film Paths Of Glory
When reoriented by the trauma and darkness of war, wisdom shapes an altered perception of the value
of human life, embodying the light of gratitude. The film Paths of Glory, directed by Stanley Kubrick,
dealt with the harsh conditions in the trenches during WW1, and is an exploration of dehumanisation.
The film discreetly questions the authority of superior officers, and the way in which the hierarchy of
the army is depicted. The film was made during the Cold War era, which was the geopolitical rivalry
between US and the Soviet Union. Situated in WW2, Catch 22 is a satirical novel composed by Joseph
Heller, which defines the infuriating, inverted thought processes by which the military runs its soldiers
lives; Any time a soldier discerns a possible route out of the war, there is a catch, and it is always
Catch 22.
Anti war texts construct emotionally challenging and persuasive accounts of condemnation of
darkness and injustice in war. In the film Paths of Glory, Stanley Kubrick creates a visual
condemnation of warfare through his portrayal of injustice. Colonel Dax is the epitome of human
goodness, a characteristic which ironically causes conflict within the context of the military as
demonstrated in the Testimony scene, where Dax makes a powerful statement about the cruelty of the
court case. Dax s sadistic plea condemns the officials of their unjust verdict, however they prevail with
an indifferent reading of the evidence. For Mireau it is the decision to order the

Economic Factors That Affect Small Business
Small businesses are an integral part of the economy of any country. They employ many and act as an
income source to governments. However, in comparison to the large enterprises, small businesses tend
to be vulnerable to various economic activities and changes due to their nature in size. Over time, the
economic factors have proved either a challenge or a boost to the growth and expansion of these
businesses. Among the various economic activities that affect various businesses is the economic
slowdown and government legislation. An Economic slowdown can result in grave consequences for
long term businesses whereas government legislations can either create a new market sector or close
down existing sectors. Economic factors have a massive impact on how small businesses operate and
tend to dictate their success or failure.
There exist different economies, and various questions arise when it comes to the ideal capitalist
economy of a small business. Small businesses tend to perform better in competitive economies.
When compared to selling goods, service industry would be the best suitable to offer in a capitalist
economy. Consumers usually portray a spendthrift behavior whenever they are in need of a service
that they deem essential but can afford the luxury of having someone provide it to them. On the other
hand, economic factors are likely to influence the quantity of goods and services offered in the service
industry. Such a situation affects almost all small businesses

Ships were important in the growth of the fishing industry, and the growth of one led to the growth of
the other (Foner, VOF, 50). Coastal towns also grew as people settled on the banks to provide
employment as well as gain from the expansive world. The ship making industry was support by the
availability of trees and forests which provided ship making materials. Some of these were transported
by the waterways such as rivers and all the way down to the coast. With the increase in the number of
ships came more traffic and more globe trotting. This also enhanced international trade and especially
the Transatlantic Triangular Trade. This is where the three continents, Europe went to Africa to get
slaves who would work on the plantations in America from where the Europeans would carry the raw
materials back home which would be manufactured into finished goods. This also helps in explain the
last usage of waterways and bodies and their economic effect. In the transport industry, before the
railroads came, people used water bodies to transport heavy and large cargo. Water bodies were the
only linkage between continents and specifically, these three that traded in the Atlantic Ocean. This
interconnectivity is even what led to the discovery of the Americas by the first person from the West.

The Neural Correlates Of Religious And Spiritual Development
It is well established that adolescence marks a significant period for developmental changes
physiologically (Erikson, 1968; Hall, 1904) and spiritually (Good Willoughby, 2008). Researchers
have begun exploring the neural correlates of religious and spiritual development, establishing that
there is surge in brain connections and maturation during adolescence resulting in development of
abstract thinking skills. At and around the transition to puberty, adolescents are able to perceive and
consider multiple perspectives of their beliefs, especially in the light of reasoning, evidence, and
rational thinking (Byrnes, 2003). Since this abstract thinking is targeted towards non concrete ideas
and deductive reasoning, concepts of religion and spirituality are subjected to reason as well.
Adolescents are better able to test hypothesis related to beliefs such as spirituality, therefore engaging
in more spiritual exploration than their younger counterparts (Chapell Overton, 1998). Despite the
unique developmental changes associated with puberty, available empirical evidence of spiritual
conversion and commitment is still lacking in longitudinal evidence (Donelson, 1999).
Self Worth
Self worth, the regard a person feels for themselves (Harter 2012), is related to well being and positive
mental health (Kling et al, 1999). Self worth is particularly important to study developmentally,
especially since adolescents are going through identity development and thus rely on their family,

The Differences Of Luke And John s Gospels
In many ways, the ministry of Jesus Christ can be understood through his interactions with other
people. In particular, Jesus interactions with others while sharing a meal often reveal the heart of his
ministry. The simple act of eating with another is mentioned in all four of the Gospels, especially in
the gospels of Luke and John. Luke and John s Gospels use stories of Jesus eating with others to
highlight the most important aspect of his ministry, sacrificial and radical love for the other.
Of the four Gospels, Luke s contains the most accounts of food. Mark Allen Powell comments on the
food motif in this Gospel, saying that there are nineteen different meals found in Luke. Luke is a part
of the three Synoptic Gospels, the other two being the Gospels of Mark and Matthew. Many of the
stories found in Luke s Gospel are also found in the other Synoptic Gospels and elaborated upon in his
own. However, Powell notes that thirteen of the stories in which food are involved are unique to Luke

John s Gospel contains more poetic language and almost ninety percent of its material cannot be found

meal in the same way that Luke s Gospel does. Unlike Luke s Gospel, John s Gospel does not describe
the actual Passover meal. Rather, it takes place after the meal has finished and the group is still at the
table. John s Gospel describes Jesus as washing the disciples feet, a moment that was shocking to the
disciples. At this moment, Jesus acts similarly to that of a servant washing the feet of their master.

History Of Baroque And Baroque
The following period of Baroque and Rococo become popular in Italy, France, and Northern Europe.
In Baroque we see social, economic, and political change such as the church losing political/religious
power and monarchs gaining power. New styles, forms, and patrons are developed such as the Bernini
s Plaza. The Bernini s Plaza has a gathering group of sorts, where we have a rhombus and a circle
pieta that welcomes and invites people which is described as mother church reaching out and grabbing
the faithful. If we look into Bernini s cathedral we see can see Baldachinno or little canopy which is

to overwhelm the senses and to bring the viewer s attention in. The Baldachinno columns are twisty
and are heavily decorated with bronze to show how dramatic and decorative it was to catch viewer s
attention. The throne of St. Peter was very popular and was also a place where the pope would sit on
during special occasions. St. Peter s throne emphasized a heavenly connection. There was also a
window that would let light in, and above the window were bronze rods that would reflect light which
would have made the window very bright and beautiful on a heavenly level to show the importance of

Explain Why Cell Biology Embodies All The Principles Of Life
1. Cell biology embodies all the principles of life
2. Cells are small because they are limited by the surface area to volume ratio. The volume of the cell
allows for the total number of chemical activity it carries out during an amount of time. The surface
area of a cell determines the number of substances that go into the cell from the outside of the cell. It
is also determined by the number of waste products that are able to go to the environment. The cell
must be a certain volume in order to allow for a big enough surface area to volume ratio which lets
substances in and out of the cell as well as allowing chemical reactions to occur.

that the American Indian must give up all white customs and products. If they rejected these items and

American Indian village. Tecumseh was away, recruiting other American Indians to join his
confederation. The Prophet, lacking the military skills of his brother, decided to attack the Americans.
He claimed that the Master of Life had come to him and told him that the American Indians would
succeed in defeating the Americans. He also stated that the whites bullets would not harm his people.
The Prophet and his forces attacked Harrison s men before daybreak on the morning of November 7,
1811. Harrison s army had approximately one thousand troops, including infantry and cavalry. The
American army defeated the American Indians, but they suffered heavy losses: sixty two men killed
and 126 wounded. The American Indians losses are not easy to know because they carried off most of
their dead and wounded. Harrison guessed that at least forty American Indians were killed. This battle
became known as the Battle of Tippecanoe, which occurred north of present day West Lafayette,

No Trespassing Sign In Town
Need for No Trespassing Sign in Town Driving through Colorado is one of the most amazing trips to
take; the Rocky Mountains are spectacular and the diversity in scenery is never boring. As one drives
through much of the state, it is quite noticeable there are many fences and signs posted with signs
saying, PRIVATE PROPERTY KEEP OUT or POSTED NO TRESPASSING along almost every
stretch of land, except for state or federal land Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land
(www.blm.gov, n.d.). It is understandable to have a posted sign on isolated land or a large acreage of
property not often frequented by the owners; however, seeing a no trespassing sign in town, in a
fenced yard seems to be a bit unnecessary. Why would a homeowner in a town want ... Show more

The Irony Of The Sinner
While traveling through Hell, Dante the pilgrim encountered numerous sinners on each level, all
prepared to tell their tales of misfortune and transgression. However, though some ask Dante to
remember them or tell their stories on Earth, most of them speak for their own gain, not simply to
educate Dante on the penalties of their sins. Each sinner appears to wallow in the past, isolating
themselves in their sin and occasionally ignoring Dante as a person entirely. Even when these sinners
find themselves physically trapped together with another soul, they remain lonely and miserable in
their suffering: they have deprived themselves of the forgiveness and love God offered them and now
must find something else to love. As they have rejected God, these sinners still seek to fill that void of
emptiness to which they have forever condemned themselves. In Dante Alighieri s Inferno, the irony
of the sinner s contrappaso reflects the irony that, even in the suffering they have brought upon
themselves, they have a misplaced love in their sin in place of the love God offered them.
In Canto V, Dante encounters the Francesca and Paulo, who have thrown away their chance for heaven
for one another, yet enjoyed the action of sinning itself more then each other s company. As soon as
Dante the pilgrim comes upon the pair, Francesca relates the tale of their sin, explaining how this one,
who never shall be parted from me, while all his body trembled, kissed my mouth....that day we read

The Church Of The Brethren
Church of the Brethren does not accept abortion. Participating in abortion is not support their beliefs.
Church of the Brethren is a denomination that was formed to continue their practices their own way.
They started as a small group and to this day still recruit new members. They solely use the New
Testament as their source of guidance for the practice they preach. Rational Choice theory explains
Church of the Brethren s position in opposing abortion.
The Church of the Brethren opposes abortion because the rejection of unborn children violates the
love by which God creates and nurtures human life (1984). This is the Church of Brethren s official
position concerning abortion. They feel they are responsible for the children who are unwanted. They
believe in various alternatives to abortion for the people in their community. They still will love and
support those who believe that eliminating a child from their womb is the correct thing. Opposing
abortion falls in favor with the majority of the Church of the Brethren. However, meetings are held
with the Standing Committee to discuss controversial topics, such as abortion. The Church of the
Brethren suggests that human life existed way before conception in Psalm 51:5. Also in Jeremiah 1:5,
which states that he, was acknowledged before conception. The life of the fetus and of the mother are
described as valuable in Exodus 21:22 25 (1972). According to these scriptures, the life of a fetus is
important before even existing.

Eradicating the Deaf-World Essays
Eradicating the Deaf World
Just like members of other minorities, such as Hispanics and African Americans, Deaf people
experience some of the same oppression and hardships. Although the attempts to fix members of and
obliterate the DEAF WORLD are not as highly publicized as problems with other minorities, they still
exist. Throughout time, hearing people have been trying to destroy the DEAF WORLD with the
eugenics movement, the mainstreaming of Deaf children into public hearing schools, and cochlear
implants.
Overall, the eugenics movement was meant to discourage Deaf people from socializing,
intermarrying, and reproducing with each other. But these goals are very much unachievable. When
Deaf children are growing up in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So the fact that laws were passed to sterilize Deaf people shows again the attempts to do away with
Deaf people and the DEAF WORLD. Even as recently as 1992, researchers at Boston University
claimed to find the gene responsible for a common type of inherited deafness. The director essentially
stated that these findings would lead to genetic engineering, which in essence, would eradicate many
Deaf people. These researchers want to insert genetic material to prevent hereditary hearing
impairment (Lane, 1996:385). Really, they want to stop deafness before it starts. The eugenics
movement takes on many forms, but they are all aimed at destroying the DEAF WORLD.
Mainstreaming Deaf children into hearing public schools, with or without interpreters, has the
potential to abolish the DEAF WORLD. A Deaf child s natural language is American Sign Language.
Therefore, they should be exposed to and taught as much ASL in school as possible. When Deaf
children are mainstreamed into public schools, they lost contact with other Deaf children with whom
they can associate and sign with. Many Deaf adults have remained friends with people they met while
attending residential schools. For parents that have children with other disabilities, mainstreaming has
an inherent attraction, but the

Secretariat
The secretary general of the UN is the closest thing to a president of the world that exists. The
secretary general is nominated unanimously by the Security Council which must include the five
permanent states, and then approved by the general assembly. The staff of the secretary general can be
regarded as an international civil service, which is not to seek nor receive instructions from any other
authority but the UN itself. Trusteeship Council
The trusteeship council now defunct was established in order to supervise the trust territories created
after the end of the second war. The administration of each territory was carried out by a specific state,
but certain supervisory responsibilities were performed by the General Assembly through the agency
of the Trusteeship Council.
International Court of Justice
The international court of justice now called the world court is the organ of the UN responsible for the
handling of judicial disputes between states. The Court which is headquartered in The Hague is
composed of fifteen judges elected by concurrent vote of the General Assembly and the Security
Council. However only states, not individuals or businesses, can sue or be sued in the World Court.

The Pros And Cons Of Forced Sterilization
Forced sterilization, also called eugenic sterilization, is a procedure commonly performed on women
as a way to permanently prevent that woman from having future children, and is still being practiced
today in many countries around the world, including the United States.
Sterilization abuse is a practice in which the woman is either unaware she is being sterilized, or she
has been coerced or deceived into getting the procedure done by either being told it is a temporary or
reversible procedure, or being told that by not consenting, there would be negative impacts to her
immigration, housing, government benefits, or parenting.1 This method, which has been documented
in the United States starting around 1907, was commonly used on poor, disadvantaged, unwed,
mentally disabled women, children, and even some men, including many people within a minority
group, as a way to control their fertilization and combat overpopulation.
This gave the government the ability to decide who was incapable of regulating their own
reproduction abilities which is what was used to justify the use of forced sterilization in these groups
of people. It wasn t until the 1970 s that federal legislation passed a sterilization policy to prevent
sterilization of women without their consent, but the caveat to this was those women who it applied to
were those who received government assistance for medical care.2 This was their way of making an
attempt to allow women to have control over their reproductive

Tragic Characters from Antigone
Tragic Characters from Antigone
The story of Antigone begins with the death of Oedipus. His sons Polyneices and Eteocles battled
against each other for control of the city Thebes, which resulted in the death of both of them. Creon,
brother of Iocasta and uncle of Oedipus, becomes the king. He declared an honorable burial for
Eteocles, who fought for Thebes, and no burial for Polyneices since he fought against Thebes.
Antigone tells Ismene, her sister of Polyneices s fate, and that he deserves to be buried regardless if
Ismene joins her. Antigone does bury her brother, going against her sister s warning about Creon
killing whoever touches Polyneices body. A Sentry tells Creon hat someone has done some burial
cremations Polyneices, and Creon tells him to find the person who is responsible. A Sentry sees
Antigone spreading dust over Polyneices s body, allowing his body to take its place in Hades, and
brings her to Creon. When Ismene found out Antigone was caught by Creon, she asks to share in
Antigone s guilt, but Antigone doesn t allow her. Creon s son Haimon tries to reason with his father
saying he should be fair and restraint. Creon ignores his son and sends Antigone to the tomb. Teiresias,
a blind prophet, also tries to warn Creon of the god s anger towards him and that an unpleasant fate
will happen. Again Creon ignores the warning and insults Teiresias. When Teiresias left, Creon tried to
think of a time when he was wrong and he couldn t. So Creon decided he would

High Anxiety With Mixed Emotions
Being deployed through Matterhorn caused high anxiety with mixed emotions. The soldiers you
become family with and you learn that the higher ranking officers are not your friends or family. The
racial problems are brought from home to the jungle and even though you fight side by side with these
attitudes, a worry of trouble erupting in your own company is a constant. We are taken through the
Vietnam War encountering the entire struggle, heartache, and gripping physical and mental pain from
the deployed soldiers barely old enough to obtain a driver s license. The plans placed on paper
constituting plans of attack are not sufficient for the current war zone and the colonel whom is
nowhere near just wants the men to keep going no matter what the cost. The goal of the directing rank
is to keep the body count of the Vietnamese high and they are not against turning reported probables
into confirmed numbers. Marlantes insight into Matterhorn was appalling; the men were treated with
the utmost disrespect when it came to their basic needs. The lack of resupply, FAC man, the company
s enlisted forward air controller, has once again not been able to talk a resupply chopper down through
the clouds, so this had been the fourth day without resupply, limited the men from functioning
properly. The men who had been injured were holding on to hope that a medivac would come. To me
this is completely unacceptable. These men were sent to Vietnam to fight a war they did not start

Teens And Gang Violence
About one third of every community experiences some sort of gang violence (Tucker). Although, it
may not directly affect one specific community. It is making a great impact on the new generation.
Gang violence among teens has become more prevalent in today s society. For example, during the
summer of 2017 in Lancaster South Carolina, five teenagers were murdered by other teens in gang
affiliated behaviors. Thus, resulting in imprisonment. The question is how we punish these teens.
Should they receive the death penalty for committing an act of murder? Or should they spend the rest
of their lives in prison with a chance of being released back into society. What is the value of their
lives? Understand they are in the prime of their lives. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Philosopher Michel Foucault s work Discipline and Punish speaks about the changes punishment and
discipline have taken. Punishment has always been used to discourage criminals from unlawful acts.
In the beginning, punishment was aimed at the body through things like corporal punishment. Now
with prison systems in place, the aim is at what Foucault calls the soul . Foucault questions if these
new methods of punishment and discipline are indeed affective.
Commonly the criminals who receive death penalties have committed an act of terrorism, hate crimes,
or murder. There are currently thirty one states in which the death penalty is legalized, including South
Carolina. In the state of South Carolina, by law, a person receives the death penalty when murder is
committed with one of twelve aggravating circumstances. A person who is convicted of or pleads
guilty to murder must be punished by death, or by a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment for
thirty years to life. If the State seeks the death penalty and a statutory aggravating circumstance is
found beyond a reasonable doubt pursuant to subsections (B) and (C), and a recommendation of death
is not made, the trial judge must impose a sentence of life imprisonment ( Code of Laws ).
The support for and against the death penalty is equally weighted. Those who are for the death penalty
say that it creates both specific and general deterrence. Deterrence is the action of discouraging an
action or event

Dreams, By Sigmund Freud
A person s dreams appear to have a universal language. In ancient societies, people looked at
dreaming as some kind of supernatural communication and dreams are fascinating mysteries. To begin
the discussion of dreams, it is important to note that dreams are often considered an extension of
consciousness. In other words, dreams can be a way the brain organizes and analyzes the day to day
events during sleep. Everyone dreams, however, not everyone remembers their dreams. The
psychoanalyst, Sigmund Freud, theorized that dreams bury themselves in unconscious emotions and
as we sleep our mind releases these emotions in the form of dreams. He also theorized that dreams are
ways in which people act out suppressed desires. The Interpretation of ... Show more content on

This theory was a good method of explaining dreams, but it did not predict behavior. In other words,
one cannot prove or refute the validity of Freud s theory. According to Ciccarelli and White (2015),
many of today s professionals no longer appreciate Freud s dream theory (151). Nevertheless, Freud s
legacy lives on as The Father of Psychoanalysis (Robinson 2011) and a pioneer in the study of dreams.
Even though, the theory proposed by Freud appears decidedly unscientific. The unconscious mind was
important in Freud s work and the Freudian theory emphasized that the unconscious mind governed
behavior.
Additionally, to study Freud, one must investigate his theory of manifest content and latent content.
While reading Freud, a student learns that the actual content of the dream refers to manifest content.
That is to say, the exact subject matter of the dream makes up the manifest content. At the same time,
Freud believed that the real meaning of a dream referred to latent content. An individual s personal
interpretations define the latent content in Freud s theory. Although rarely recognized, Freud s career
was first and foremost a practitioner Moran 2010). As a psychotherapist Freud believed that dreams
come from deep in the unconscious mind. Perhaps even from things suppressed since childhood. The
study of dreams helped Freud understand the process of psychoanalyzing people and he believed
dreams were a

  • 2. The Truth About Human Trafficking The Truth About Human Trafficking Human Trafficking is a modern day form of slavery involving the illegal trade of people for exploitation or commercial gain (Human Trafficking). The term human trafficking evolved from slavery in the early 1900 s and continued to become a global market over the past 100 years. There are several different types of human trafficking such as forced labor, sexual exploitation, people smuggling, and the harvesting of organs for commercial profit (Types of Human Trafficking.). Victims of human trafficking are stripped of their identity and are denied their natural, human rights. There are a total of 27 million enslaved women, men, and children all over the world. The average age of a trafficking victim around the world is 12 years old (Human Trafficking The A21 Campaign). As a society that values an individual s freedom and rights, the awareness and consequences associated with human trafficking must be increased, as many governments do not contribute enough resources in order to combat the various forms of human trafficking that occurs among nations. Human trafficking began when the traditional form of slavery evolved into the forced prostitution of women. In 1904, the International Agreement for the Suppression of White Slave Traffic was put into place. This law was created to prevent women and children from being trafficked into sex trade. The League of Nations was created in 1927 to discuss international issues, such as human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Organized Crime In Hollywood In today s society, when people think of organized crime they typically think of the Italian mob or the Russian mafia. This is because they are the more popular groups that society sees on the big screen and on television, as well as the ones that people talk about the most. According to the Crime Museum , organized crime is a group of individuals working together to illicit profit through illegal and often violent methods . Over the past decades, Hollywood s film industries have fueled America s obsession with organized crime or mafia style films. For these types of gangster or mob movies to be effective, they must allow the audience to build a connection with one of the characters in the film, who is of questionable morals and sleazy behavior, ... The most notable group was the Italian Americans, which formed the Mafia. However, it wasn t until Prohibition that these groups became successful and established. The mobsters in the 1920 s and 30 s, consisted mostly of Italian Americans which controlled a great deal of the organized crime in New York and Chicago. The idea of prohibition became ironic because instead of creating a respectable and law abiding society by outlawing alcohol it assisted in creating one of the greatest crime filled period s in America s history. Prohibition also helped to establish the famous mob leaders we know today, such as Lucky Luciano and Al Capone. According to Hilary Parkinson in the article Prohibition and the Rise of the American Gangster , from Los Angeles to Chicago to New York, organized crime syndicates supplied speakeasies and underground establishments with large quantities of beer and liquor . These underground networks formed a virtual river for alcohol. The prohibition age formed a widespread network of crime bosses that worked together for a single cause. • 4. Comparing Dante Alighieri s Inferno And The Faerie Queene Both Dante Alighieri s Inferno and Edmund Spenser s The Faerie Queene depict wooded forests wrought with transformed men as trees. In the Inferno and The Faerie Queene an existential conundrum of compromised identities leaves Pier della Vigne and Fraudubio sans human choice. Dehumanized and disfigured, the individuals that comprise the trees still retain human qualities like talking, breathing, and, even, bleeding under certain circumstances. Within each space, whether it is considered a definite locus amoenus or a locus horribilis, the most significant human attribute to which these trees cling is bleeding and thus they have a small handful of feelings and emotions still within each of them. Instead of their ripped branches symbolizing death and decay, the breaking of the branches within Inferno 13 and The Faerie Queene 1.2, give the trees life as if nothing has changed. While the bleeding infers a loss of identity in both, redeemable only for one of the two, it also lets their stories be told. Their stories, sad in nature, have redemptive qualities and move the two pilgrims that listen to their doleful tales. The Inferno illustrates the journey of Dante the pilgrim as he travels through the nine circles of Hell wherein each circle objectifies a specific sin like lust, gluttony, greed or violence; there the sinners endure eternal punishment. In the seventh circle, the circle of violence, Dante interacts with the suicides and profligates. Condemned to live eternally as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Everyone experiences a situation where they weren t able to fit in. The feeling of not being able to fit it is universal. Not everyone is the same and in certain situations you may not be able to bond with everyone. Everyone is focused on being judged or being the person who is judging someone. If you are not like everyone in your society group, those people don t except you. Nowadays our society feels that if you aren t up to people s expectations, you are known to be an outsider . Being an outsider is universal because not everyone is social, not everyone can afford nice things and not everyone is popular. In our society everyone expects to be the same, however, no one is ever going to be the exact same. Everyone has different beliefs and different interests. Today people judge the nice stuff people can afford and the way people dress. In the story, The Doll s House , there were two girls known as the Kelvey sisters and they were really poor. They were dressed in bits given to her by the people for whom she worked (Mansfield 203). Nowadays people judge you on appearance and if you are dressed sloppy you are more likely to be made fun of. So, why do you think Crane named the story after her? I believed Crane named the story after Maggie because using all the other characters it was giving the readers a background. It was giving us the understanding of what Maggie was growing up in and why she was making the decisions she was making. In the beginning it was focused on other characters but towards the end it shifts focus to Maggie and the analyzation of her actions. • 15. The Explorer Poem Analysis The Explorer was written during the civil rights movement when Brooks started to focus on writing for the black community. Through the blood, sweat, and sacrifice her community experiences every day, she is inspired to write this particular piece to show that African Americans, although are scared, will keep fighting and searching for their utopia. Starting from stanza one, the word frayed stands out the most. Repeated twice, it immediately tells the reader that the situation is not that of hope and is life changing to the main character. Still spot also references that the main character is looking for a quiet setting. The theme of quiet and peace is renounced in stanza two as words such as velvet peace and willy hush also go along with the peace and quiet theme. Now, the reader gains a better sense of the financial condition of the main character. Tatters makes the reader think that the main character is poor and financially challenged, and knowing Brooks purpose of the poem is about revitalizing hope for the black community, the main character is most likely black male. Moreover, Brooks inserts a metaphor that comprises most of the stanza and ultimately depicts that the character in the poem is trying to find peace and quiet both within a house and his mind (Poem 3). Next in stanza three, the main purpose of this stanza is to describe what exactly is happening to the main character. Tipping down the scrambled halls reveals that the main character does not ... What the media fails to accurately portray is that feminists strive to promote equality for both women and men. Utilizing feminism as their secret weapon to add diversity to the overly male punk scene, the riot grrrls managed to successfully promote women s rights with politically charged tunes that empowered women to make a change. However, despite of its fabricated intentions, the media proposed a valid argument against the movement: why the movement did not last over the years. One often overlooked aspect of Riot grrrl was that although it claimed to revive the feminist appeal by standing up for ALL women, the majority of its efforts seemed to appeal more in favor of middle class Caucasian women. Members with a variety of ethnic backgrounds who identified themselves as riot grrrls felt that that their adversities and struggles as both minorities and women were not equally put into perspective as much as those of their counterparts. This flaw within the movement has negatively affected its social longevity and overall appeal to a wider range of women, yet the dedication to spread awareness on intimate struggles and successful establishment of a community within the movement have proven to still be both effective as well as inspiring in today s modern society. Though it was still a sad event, death was also thought to be respectful and honorable. It was believed that people who have lived a full life and had fulfilled their purpose end their journey with death. Though the cause of death could be feared, death itself was not scary; therefore, suicide was always an option. In ancient times, respectful samurais were known to be prideful and courageous. They, however, would choose to slice their own stomachs and commit suicide rather than be executed or killed. They believed that suicide would act as a compensation for their incapability to survive and protect their pride and dignity. If they cut themselves, they were thought to be brave and courageous. Even during the war, it was thought to be an honorable act to crash land a plane onto enemy grounds, sacrificing himself to fight against an enemy. The kamikaze flew to their deaths believing that their actions were courageous. Death was not scary; Japanese people did not fear death (based on personal stories and experiences with the Japanese). This, though it could be seen as admirable, was an issue of concern for Tamura. After the war had ended, people of Japan resort to suicide without too much hesitation. Dr. Jane Herbert was the lecturer of this topic and she drew my attention and interest to infant memory development and infantile amnesia. Infantile amnesia is the failure to recall events from babyhood and early childhood (Hayne Jack, 2010). In other words, according to Henri Henri (1898 cited in Hayne, 2004), most of the children and adults can only recollect the earliest memory between 2 and 4 years old. Early experience is a crucial element in understanding human development as psychologists stated its influences would last for long (Hayne Jack, 2010). The early experience plays an important role in brain, social, behavioural development (Hayne, 2004). Many scholars and psychologists at or beyond the University of Sheffield has conducted numerous research in this field, and they aimed to study infant memory ability and age related changes in various kind of aspects with their research impacting society in many ways. As we have seen in the case study the Spokane industries are very particular about the earned value reports, as we seen in the reports that the Franklin electronics provided is seemed to be a very basic according their view. The values of cost variance at the 2nd month are like 6K, 2K, 3K, 3K, here the total comes to 14k ($14,000) and the same cost variance in the following month are presented as 7K, 3K, 5K, 10K ($25,000) respectively, so here we can see that the values that were provided in the 2nd month are less than 3/4th of the 3rd month. Comes to the scheduling variance the values given to the 2nd month are said to be 8K, 1K, 2K, 20K ($31,000), the 3rd month calculations are in the order 12K, 3K, 4K, 26K ($45,000), so by seeing this we can easily say that the scheduling variance is overrated nearly 50% of its value in the previous month. So, whatever the sponsor said in the case study is true. The Importance Of War In The Film Paths Of Glory When reoriented by the trauma and darkness of war, wisdom shapes an altered perception of the value of human life, embodying the light of gratitude. The film Paths of Glory, directed by Stanley Kubrick, dealt with the harsh conditions in the trenches during WW1, and is an exploration of dehumanisation. The film discreetly questions the authority of superior officers, and the way in which the hierarchy of the army is depicted. The film was made during the Cold War era, which was the geopolitical rivalry between US and the Soviet Union. The Neural Correlates Of Religious And Spiritual Development It is well established that adolescence marks a significant period for developmental changes physiologically (Erikson, 1968; Hall, 1904) and spiritually (Good Willoughby, 2008). Researchers have begun exploring the neural correlates of religious and spiritual development, establishing that there is surge in brain connections and maturation during adolescence resulting in development of abstract thinking skills. At and around the transition to puberty, adolescents are able to perceive and consider multiple perspectives of their beliefs, especially in the light of reasoning, evidence, and rational thinking (Byrnes, 2003). Since this abstract thinking is targeted towards non concrete ideas and deductive reasoning, concepts of religion and spirituality are subjected to reason as well. Adolescents are better able to test hypothesis related to beliefs such as spirituality, therefore engaging in more spiritual exploration than their younger counterparts (Chapell Overton, 1998). Despite the unique developmental changes associated with puberty, available empirical evidence of spiritual conversion and commitment is still lacking in longitudinal evidence (Donelson, 1999). • 38. Explain Why Cell Biology Embodies All The Principles Of Life 1. Cell biology embodies all the principles of life 2. Cells are small because they are limited by the surface area to volume ratio. The volume of the cell allows for the total number of chemical activity it carries out during an amount of time. The surface area of a cell determines the number of substances that go into the cell from the outside of the cell. It is also determined by the number of waste products that are able to go to the environment. The cell must be a certain volume in order to allow for a big enough surface area to volume ratio which lets substances in and out of the cell as well as allowing chemical reactions to occur. 3. • 39. Battle Of Tippecanoe Essay The Battle of Tippecanoe In what is now known as Battle Ground, Indiana, the Battle of Tippecanoe was fought on November 7, 1811. Tecumseh and the Prophet, also known as Tenskwatawa, were the American names of two Shawnee natives. They also were brothers. During the early 1800s, they devised separate plans to deal with the white settlers flooding onto their land. According to the Prophet, the Master of Life told him that the American Indian must give up all white customs and products. If they rejected these items and returned to traditional ways, the Master of Life would reward them by driving the white settlers from the American Indians lands. Tecumseh believed, if the American Indian put aside their traditional differences and worked together, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The two men continued to spread their messages, and their followers continued to grow in number. By 1811, such a large number of American Indians lived at Prophetstown that white settlers in Ohio and the Indiana Territory demanded that the government do something to protect them. William Henry Harrison, governor of the Indiana Territory and future president of the United States of America, led an army against Prophetstown in the fall of 1811. He stopped his force a short distance from the American Indian village. Tecumseh was away, recruiting other American Indians to join his confederation. The Prophet, lacking the military skills of his brother, decided to attack the Americans. He claimed that the Master of Life had come to him and told him that the American Indians would succeed in defeating the Americans. He also stated that the whites bullets would not harm his people. The Prophet and his forces attacked Harrison s men before daybreak on the morning of November 7, 1811. Harrison s army had approximately one thousand troops, including infantry and cavalry. The American army defeated the American Indians, but they suffered heavy losses: sixty two men killed and 126 wounded. The American Indians losses are not easy to know because they carried off most of their dead and wounded. Harrison guessed that at least forty American Indians were killed. • 41. The Irony Of The Sinner While traveling through Hell, Dante the pilgrim encountered numerous sinners on each level, all prepared to tell their tales of misfortune and transgression. However, though some ask Dante to remember them or tell their stories on Earth, most of them speak for their own gain, not simply to educate Dante on the penalties of their sins. Each sinner appears to wallow in the past, isolating themselves in their sin and occasionally ignoring Dante as a person entirely. Even when these sinners find themselves physically trapped together with another soul, they remain lonely and miserable in their suffering: they have deprived themselves of the forgiveness and love God offered them and now must find something else to love. As they have rejected God, these sinners still seek to fill that void of emptiness to which they have forever condemned themselves. In Dante Alighieri s Inferno, the irony of the sinner s contrappaso reflects the irony that, even in the suffering they have brought upon themselves, they have a misplaced love in their sin in place of the love God offered them. In Canto V, Dante encounters the Francesca and Paulo, who have thrown away their chance for heaven for one another, yet enjoyed the action of sinning itself more then each other s company. As soon as Dante the pilgrim comes upon the pair, Francesca relates the tale of their sin, explaining how this one, who never shall be parted from me, while all his body trembled, kissed my mouth....that day we read no ... • 42. The Church Of The Brethren Church of the Brethren does not accept abortion. Participating in abortion is not support their beliefs. Church of the Brethren is a denomination that was formed to continue their practices their own way. They started as a small group and to this day still recruit new members. They solely use the New Testament as their source of guidance for the practice they preach. Rational Choice theory explains Church of the Brethren s position in opposing abortion. The Church of the Brethren opposes abortion because the rejection of unborn children violates the love by which God creates and nurtures human life (1984). This is the Church of Brethren s official position concerning abortion. They feel they are responsible for the children who are unwanted. They believe in various alternatives to abortion for the people in their community. They still will love and support those who believe that eliminating a child from their womb is the correct thing. Opposing abortion falls in favor with the majority of the Church of the Brethren. However, meetings are held with the Standing Committee to discuss controversial topics, such as abortion. The Church of the Brethren suggests that human life existed way before conception in Psalm 51:5. Also in Jeremiah 1:5, which states that he, was acknowledged before conception. The life of the fetus and of the mother are described as valuable in Exodus 21:22 25 (1972). According to these scriptures, the life of a fetus is important before even existing. ... Eradicating the Deaf-World Essays Eradicating the Deaf World Just like members of other minorities, such as Hispanics and African Americans, Deaf people experience some of the same oppression and hardships. Although the attempts to fix members of and obliterate the DEAF WORLD are not as highly publicized as problems with other minorities, they still exist. Throughout time, hearing people have been trying to destroy the DEAF WORLD with the eugenics movement, the mainstreaming of Deaf children into public hearing schools, and cochlear implants. Overall, the eugenics movement was meant to discourage Deaf people from socializing, intermarrying, and reproducing with each other. But these goals are very much unachievable. So the fact that laws were passed to sterilize Deaf people shows again the attempts to do away with Deaf people and the DEAF WORLD. Even as recently as 1992, researchers at Boston University claimed to find the gene responsible for a common type of inherited deafness. The director essentially stated that these findings would lead to genetic engineering, which in essence, would eradicate many Deaf people. These researchers want to insert genetic material to prevent hereditary hearing impairment (Lane, 1996:385). Really, they want to stop deafness before it starts. The eugenics movement takes on many forms, but they are all aimed at destroying the DEAF WORLD. Mainstreaming Deaf children into hearing public schools, with or without interpreters, has the potential to abolish the DEAF WORLD. A Deaf child s natural language is American Sign Language. Therefore, they should be exposed to and taught as much ASL in school as possible. When Deaf children are mainstreamed into public schools, they lost contact with other Deaf children with whom they can associate and sign with. • 45. The Pros And Cons Of Forced Sterilization Forced sterilization, also called eugenic sterilization, is a procedure commonly performed on women as a way to permanently prevent that woman from having future children, and is still being practiced today in many countries around the world, including the United States. Sterilization abuse is a practice in which the woman is either unaware she is being sterilized, or she has been coerced or deceived into getting the procedure done by either being told it is a temporary or reversible procedure, or being told that by not consenting, there would be negative impacts to her immigration, housing, government benefits, or parenting.1 This method, which has been documented in the United States starting around 1907, was commonly used on poor, disadvantaged, unwed, mentally disabled women, children, and even some men, including many people within a minority group, as a way to control their fertilization and combat overpopulation. This gave the government the ability to decide who was incapable of regulating their own reproduction abilities which is what was used to justify the use of forced sterilization in these groups of people. It wasn t until the 1970 s that federal legislation passed a sterilization policy to prevent sterilization of women without their consent, but the caveat to this was those women who it applied to were those who received government assistance for medical care.2 This was their way of making an attempt to allow women to have control over their reproductive ... Creon, brother of Iocasta and uncle of Oedipus, becomes the king. He declared an honorable burial for Eteocles, who fought for Thebes, and no burial for Polyneices since he fought against Thebes. Antigone tells Ismene, her sister of Polyneices s fate, and that he deserves to be buried regardless if Ismene joins her. Antigone does bury her brother, going against her sister s warning about Creon killing whoever touches Polyneices body. A Sentry tells Creon hat someone has done some burial cremations Polyneices, and Creon tells him to find the person who is responsible. A Sentry sees Antigone spreading dust over Polyneices s body, allowing his body to take its place in Hades, and brings her to Creon. When Ismene found out Antigone was caught by Creon, she asks to share in Antigone s guilt, but Antigone doesn t allow her. Creon s son Haimon tries to reason with his father saying he should be fair and restraint. Creon ignores his son and sends Antigone to the tomb. Punishment has always been used to discourage criminals from unlawful acts. In the beginning, punishment was aimed at the body through things like corporal punishment. Now with prison systems in place, the aim is at what Foucault calls the soul . Foucault questions if these new methods of punishment and discipline are indeed affective. Commonly the criminals who receive death penalties have committed an act of terrorism, hate crimes, or murder. There are currently thirty one states in which the death penalty is legalized, including South Carolina. In the state of South Carolina, by law, a person receives the death penalty when murder is committed with one of twelve aggravating circumstances. A person who is convicted of or pleads guilty to murder must be punished by death, or by a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment for thirty years to life. If the State seeks the death penalty and a statutory aggravating circumstance is found beyond a reasonable doubt pursuant to subsections (B) and (C), and a recommendation of death is not made, the trial judge must impose a sentence of life imprisonment ( Code of Laws ). • 49. Dreams, By Sigmund Freud A person s dreams appear to have a universal language. In ancient societies, people looked at dreaming as some kind of supernatural communication and dreams are fascinating mysteries. To begin the discussion of dreams, it is important to note that dreams are often considered an extension of consciousness. In other words, dreams can be a way the brain organizes and analyzes the day to day events during sleep. Everyone dreams, however, not everyone remembers their dreams. The psychoanalyst, Sigmund Freud, theorized that dreams bury themselves in unconscious emotions and as we sleep our mind releases these emotions in the form of dreams. He also theorized that dreams are ways in which people act out suppressed desires. The Interpretation of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This theory was a good method of explaining dreams, but it did not predict behavior. In other words, one cannot prove or refute the validity of Freud s theory. According to Ciccarelli and White (2015), many of today s professionals no longer appreciate Freud s dream theory (151). Nevertheless, Freud s legacy lives on as The Father of Psychoanalysis (Robinson 2011) and a pioneer in the study of dreams. Even though, the theory proposed by Freud appears decidedly unscientific. The unconscious mind was important in Freud s work and the Freudian theory emphasized that the unconscious mind governed behavior. Additionally, to study Freud, one must investigate his theory of manifest content and latent content. While reading Freud, a student learns that the actual content of the dream refers to manifest content. That is to say, the exact subject matter of the dream makes up the manifest content. At the same time, Freud believed that the real meaning of a dream referred to latent content. An individual s personal interpretations define the latent content in Freud s theory. Although rarely recognized, Freud s career was first and foremost a practitioner Moran 2010). As a psychotherapist Freud believed that dreams come from deep in the unconscious mind. Perhaps even from things suppressed since childhood. The study of dreams helped Freud understand the process of psychoanalyzing people and he believed dreams were a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
