Symbolism In The Crucible
The most important word in The Crucible is lie , it is a word that is used very often that
represents the main theme of the book, intolerance, and creates the conflict in the whole play.
The Crucible is a play that is about a group of girls that lived in Salem at the time witchery was
feared. Abigail lead girls to the forest where they all danced around a fire, when they were found,
the girls were brought to trial. People started accusing the girls and other people around them of
witchcraft. Along with accusations, innocent people kept getting hanged because at the time, the
court took someone s word for evidence instead of actual proof. The word lie is very connected to
one of the biggest themes of the book, intolerance. In The Crucible ,

For the Oral History Project, I am interviewing my dad. My dad has been personally impacted by
the legacies of the Korean War. He has heard stories about the Korean War from his grandmother.
His grandmother had gone through the Japanese occupation where her family lost their land and
the Korean War where she had to go down to Pusan. My dad has been raised hearing these stories
about how bad the Japanese treated Korean people during their occupation. His grandmother was
also heavily against the North Koreans who burned down her house during the Korean War. My
dad s early childhood was under the Park Chung Hee regime. He attended elementary school where
they were taught to dislike communists. The students were told to pick up balloons sent

The Road Not Taken By Robert Frost
Choosing the right path is hard when there is a lot at stake to lose. Sometimes doing what is best
for you may hurt the ones you love. It is sometimes necessary to take a chance and choose the
riskier path to see what is behind the next bend, or corner. The poem, The Road Not Taken
describes a person having a hard time choosing what path to take. Robert Frost elicits the central
idea, theme, meaning, and how the speaker came to his decision by the use of metaphors
describing the want for his readers to think through the hard decisions in life. One decision in life
can make you or break you. It is all on how a person approaches the situation.
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, Frost introduces the metaphor of two diverging roads. He is
depicting that it is fall by using the lexicon yellow wood . Fall is symbolic of a time of change.
And sorry I could not travel both Robert Frost is sorry that must make a choice. He using the word
choice sorry shows his uneasiness in making his decision.
And be one traveler, long I stood He is standing alone and having a hard time making a decision on
own. And looked down one as far as I could He tries to see the consequences of one decision.
To where it bent in the undergrowth; There are too many unknowns to know what will happen.
Robert Frost uses the word undergrowth to represent the unknowns blocking his vision.
Then took the other, as just as fair, It seems just as nice to travel.

Osteoporosis In The Body s Skeletal System
The skeleton is a very important part of the body and is separated into two sections: the
appendicular and axial skeleton. The appendicular is any part of the body that attaches to another
bone. Those include but not limited to the legs, arms, and hands. The axial bones are located
within the center of the body like the spine and ribs. Bones in these two regions are classified into
different shapes including long, short, irregular, and flat. Flat bones are found in the skull and ribs.
The flat bones in the human body are flat and thin often curved. Short bones are the same size
length wise and width wise. Those are found in the wrist and ankle. Irregular bonedoes not go into a
category. This bone can be found in the pelvis. Lastly, is the... Show more content on

Osteoporosis is a disease affecting the bones and is found mostly in women. This occurs when
one s body either makes too much bone, makes too little bone, or even both resulting in the
bones becoming weak and breaking easily. This is causes by the bone having larger holes
meaning the bones have lost density or mass and that the structure of one s bone tissue has
become abnormal (National Osteoporosis Foundation 1984). Detecting the disease is done by
performing a bone density test. This diagnoses osteoporosis and help to guess the amount of bone
located throughout the body. There is a lot one can do to prevent this disease or even slow down
the growth. It is important to eat a balanced diet, participate in exercise regularly, and consume
foods that are essential to bone health. An environmental factor that affects the skeletal
developments is a disease known as achondroplasia. This is a rare genetic disorder characterized
by an unusually large head (macrocephaly) with a prominent forehead (frontal bossing) and flat
(depressed) nasal bridge; short upper arms and legs (rhizomelic dwarfism), unusually prominent
abdomen and buttocks; and short hands with fingers that assume a trident or three pronged
position during extension (NORD 2015). This is causes randomly and affects both males and
females and has quite a few health problems related to this. One gets a lower muscle tone or even
water on the brain.

Statement Of Educational Goals
500 700 words telling the committee about your background, your educational goals and how this
scholarship will help you achieve these goals.
I am twenty years old and currently attend Illinois Central College (ICC). I have a mother, a father,
and two older siblings. I have lived in Germantown Hills, Illinois my entire life and have never
moved into a different home. Both of my parents have taught in the past and are both currently
coaching at Metamora Township High School. They pushed me to excel in school and sports
during my high school career. My passion during high school was football and wrestling.
Unfortunately, I got injured multiple times and could not continue participation in them. It was
very difficult to go through that, and it still is hard for me to contend with my injuries. After
getting injured, my primary focus became my grades and pushing myself to do the best as
possible. During my last semester in high school, I received a 4.1 GPA. During that time, I was
on the Student Council Board and was the Class President all four years. I enjoyed helping my

I have been trying to save as much money as possible, but any amount that I could receive in the
form of a scholarship, would be extremely beneficial. My parents have already done their best

risen dramatically. It would be a financial burden for me to receive a bachelor s degree without a
scholarship. Going to ICC and then transferring to a Bradley will be expensive. Any type of
financial assistance would be an enormous help in furthering my education and achieving my
goals. A degree in today s society is crucial to the success and the advancement of any individual

Adam And Eve Durer Analysis
1.The 2D engraving of Adam and Eve by Albrecht Durer caught my interest. The engraving
illustrates Adam and Eve in a heavily wooded background surrounded by animals with precise
detail. Proportion is used on the female and male bodies to represent the human body. Both
individuals are larger than the animals to demonstrate that they are closer and the animals in the
background are further from the audience s view. To increase the visually realistic representation
both Adam and Everesemble sculptures with the use the classical contrapposto in the 2D
engraving. This creates a convincing illusion that their bodies are capable of movement. The dark
and light is used to evoke a spooky appearance within the woods. Michelangelo s 3D marble
sculpture of David also peaked my interest.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Michelangelo s passion for human anatomy and his deep knowledge of the male body allowed
him to create a realistic sculpture of a man with pulsing veins. Proportion is used by increasing
the size of the right hand to emphasize the importance of the stone in David s hand. I found the
2D oil on wood Portrait of Martin Luther by Lucas Cranach the Elder to be the least appealing.
The artist s use of yellows, reds, and browns limits the paintings aesthetic appeal. The proportion
in relation to his arms is too small for his body. His hands seem out of place in this portrait. The
3D marble pieta sculpture of in the Museo dell Opera del Duomo lacked variety in its color
scheme. I disliked this sculpture due to its dark solid marble color which created a dull scene.
The legs and arms of Jesus also pose a disturbing image. The limbs seem to bend at an unusual
angle, not normal of that of a dead individual. These artworks all correlate to one another because
they are within the 16th century

The Different Differences Between Eastern And Western Culture
The perspective of culture, however, might be quite relative. Since culture can be learned, obtained,
adapted, and even transmitted from one society to another. Throughout the development of human
race, culture may also rely on many variables, including knowledge, religion, customs, and habits.
Therefore, Eastern and Western cultures mentioned below are relatively right in most
circumstances, not all of them. It is widely believed that parent s own heritage can have a powerful
impact on parenting style. Many people argue that the concept of individualism and collectivism is
the primary difference between Eastern and Western culture(Nisbett, R. E., 2003). A list of 18 pairs
of Eastern and Western cultural differences adapted by Rev. Tran

For example, kids above 12 years old would love to cuddle and have more attention from their
parents. Conversely, teenagers may require more personal space where they can freely express
their own traits, and perhaps, keep some of their own secrets. At this stage in life, Eastern parents
may frequently emphasize on family unit since young adolescents gradually reveal the need of
expressing their own image, making decisions by themselves rather than depending on family.
Furthermore, at both stages given above, kids are expected to obey any sayings from the authority.
There may be endless discussions about so many differences between the two cultures. Thus, this
report will merely mention five pairs of different values between Eastern and Western culture
drawn from the observations and some previous works. This is to further analyze the norms given
by parents when bringing up their children. The pairs of values comprise of: passiveness versus
assertiveness, hierarchy versus equality, restraint versus expressiveness, collectivism versus

The Bloody Chamber By Angela Carter
Loneliness is a complex and usually an unpleasant emotional response to isolation as well as
separation; it is a product of the lack of contact experienced with another individual. Moreover, it
includes anxious feelings due to the absence of connection or communication with other beings,
both in the present and extending into the future. Some describe it as emptiness or hollowness
inside of one s being. In the narrative The Bloody Chamber (1979), Angela Carter s characters deal
with the emotionof loneliness by taking action and intervening through any circumstances. In
contrast, in Zadie Smith s Hanwell in Hell (2004) the main characters Clive and Hanwell deal with
loneliness simply through hope. While over twenty years apart, these two narratives explore how
an individual deals with the notion of loneliness through the use of the colour red, the symbolism in
animals, and the condition of blindness. However, Carter illustrates the refusal of the protagonistto
simply accept any circumstances; but the interference in any situation. On the other hand, Smith
demonstrates the acceptance and balance of the existing situation at hand through hope. Writers and
poets use colors to represent concrete images of their characters, scenes and events. Language itself
uses a system of symbols, either verbal or written, which enables colors to have a deeper meaning.
Symbolism in literature demonstrates a profound meaning to words which in turn helps transform

You Are Not Crazy You Have Lupus Analysis
You re Not Crazy, You Have Lupus Stacey s Story
Jaime A. Heidel, a fellow blogger, asked me to write an article that she would feature on her blog.

Comparison Between Hamlet And Oedipus The King
Life From Prison to Prison The main characters in Fatih Akin s Head On, Shakespeare s Hamlet,
and Sophocles Oedipus the King are all subject to confinement in both similar and dissimilar ways
alike. All of these characters fall under the hand of family and cultural values, often having to suffer
from the actions of familymembers and the expectations forced upon them by their people. Yet,
these characters all endure other forms of confinement specific to their own situations; Sibel and
Cahit are entrapped by loveand marriage, Oedipus is restrained by his destiny and ignorance, and
Hamlet is imprisoned by trying to avenge his father s death. These constraints help the characters
find temporary salvation which is later overcome with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This action emphasizes the love that Cahit had developed for Sibel, establishing the second
imprisonment in the film. Like Sibel, Oedipus is detained by his family and his culture. He is
the king of Thebes, a city that has recently succumbed to a terrible plague, and as king, he is
expected to find a solution to this problem. After sending his right hand man Creon to an oracle
and finding out that the man who killed King Laius, the former king of Thebes, is the one who
brought the plague upon Thebes, Oedipus calls for the village prophet to tell him who is the
murderer of Laius. Oedipus bothers the prophet Teiresias until he gets an answer, however, the
answer was not one to his liking; Teiresias tells Oedipus that [he is] the land s pollution (Line
353). This instant is where the audience becomes aware of Oedipus second prison: Ignorance.
Though he may not be aware of his own ignorance, it proves to play a large role as a confining
subject, just as love is for Cahit. The truth is something that Oedipus chooses to ignore, creating a
second trap for himself. Oedipus is choosing to oppress the truth, the very thing that could free
Thebes from its plight and himself from his own ignorance At the same time, this is also the
audience s first glimpse into Oedipus destiny, which, unbeknownst to him at the time, was to kill his
father and sleep with his mother. This prophecy is just one more thing that holds Oedipus back
from true freedom. In addition to

Teagle 170 P.3d 266 (Ariz. Ct. App. 2007), defendant Teagle was pulled over after being
observed speeding down the highway. When the officer approached the vehicle, he noticed two
cellular phones on the dashboard, an open container of liquor, fast food wrappers, a box of
cookies, a map, and luggage and clothing in the backseat. The officer gave the defendant a
warning and then asked him if there was any contraband in the vehicle or whether there was a
chance anyone else could have placed any contraband in the vehicle. Although the defendant
answered in the negative, the officer returned to his patrol vehicle and asked if there was a canine
unit available. There was not and so the officer told the defendant that he was free to leave.
Shortly afterwards, the officer saw the defendant speeding once again down the road. The officer
proceeded to pull him over and gave him another warning. The officer again asked him if he could
search the vehicle and the defendant answered in the affirmative. The officer called a canine unit
which arrived an hour later. The canine, in proceeding to do an exterior sniff, circled around to the
trunk. The officers then opened the trunk to find 338 pounds of marijuana, a can of air freshener
under the driver s seat and several toilet bowl sanitizers in the compartment ofthe vehicle as well as
the trunk. These were all indicative of an attempt to mask the smell of marijuana. At trial, the
defendant argued that he had taken his vehicle to a repair shop, implying that someone else had
placed the drugs in the car. The court found that there was enough evidence, including the large
amount of drugs in the trunk of the vehicle, the air freshener, and the inconsistent statements to
determine that the defendant had sufficient knowledge of the marijuana in the

How did the Cold War affect domestic policy and American Society?
The late 1940′s were a time when much change happened to the American society. As a result to
the expanding threat of the Soviet Union, or its Communistic ideals, America took a stand that lead
it to the Cold War. Although the war didn t involve fighting directly with Russia, it still affected
the American society and domestic policy. The war affected America so much that it lead to a fear
of livelihood; precisely when Joseph McCarthy began his witch hunt . The Cold war lead to an
enlarged fear of nuclear war; as well, it affected many of the domestic policies. Even if the fear of
impending doom was to be set aside, there would still be the fear of being accused as a ... Show

This made Americans fear losing their jobs and maybe even becoming enemies of the state,
even though most of them had never involved themselves with communist groups. The Cold War
lead to a society where every man is against another, it divided the nation over a fight against
society, and it caused a fear of a possible war. Despite the name being a cold war , the possibility
and threat of a real war was always looming over the heads of Americans. The Russians had now
built weapons that could wipe everything of the face of the earth. What affected Americans the
most was The Cuban Missile crisis. The fact that the war could start with a single press of a button
really frightened the Americans. People were trembling at the sound of war, they even began to
build bomb shelters in their homes that they can run to, in case of a bombing. (Document 3)
Moreover, these bomb shelters became very popular during these times, I believe this displays
how much this war scarred the Americans; even though, it wasn t technically a physical war they
were scarred of what it could bring to them if it progressed to the next level.
The Cold War changed American society by introducing both foreign and domestic fear into the
lives of Americans. It brought neighbor against neighbor, and a trembling thoughts to all
Americans. It gave an upper hand to the men in the branches of Federal Government, and especially
to the HUAC; moreover it

Negative Effects Of Hip Hop
While many rappers were able to make money on the new movement the majority of that money did
not go into fixing up and nourishing the black community. This is evident in the music videos and
song lyrics that brag about spending money on luxurious items, drugs, alcohol, and women instead
of things that actually bolster the community. Yes, it is both unrealistic and unfair to put hip hop on
a pedestal and assume that it would completely reform the economy of a community, but its
influence was and still is deeply rooted and powerful enough to have the ability to bring positive
changes to the black community in the United States. Hip hop has brought negative changes to the
community so it is definitely not far fetched to think that it has the ability to bring positive
changes. Hip Hop was a distraction from the real problems and focused in its early years on
partying, having fun, and acquiring material objects (). Hip Hop was essential a black
redefining of the American dream which is argued by Professor Damon Sajnani to be the denial
of socioeconomic stratification in the United States, (). Hip Hop took from the prevalent idea of
the American Dream that happiness [came] with success, and success is measured in material
acquisitions (DAMON). This idea is riddled with delusions as many black people ended up
spending lots of money on material objects such as expensive shoes but still lived the reality of
poverty. This can be observed today in many black neighborhoods

Developments in the Study of Cryptography Essay
Since the beginning of civilization, humans have needed a way to communicate in secret.
Whether it be a letter to a lover or a set of orders for an army, it would be paramount for these
messages to arrive unknown and untouched. However at some point, a person could easily
apprehend the message; perhaps a spy or the letter bearer, nevertheless the chance of the message
being compromised would be quite high. Thus one would have to change the message to appear as
meaningless nonsense to those others than the intended recipient. This idea formed the basis of
cryptography, the backbone of digital security. Cryptography is the study and practice of secure
communications between two parties usually in the presence of a malicious entity,... Show more

Thus by only knowing what the cipher was, one would know what the original message was.
Early ciphers were primitive and involved the manipulation of the characters in a message. A
transposition and substitution cipher was very common in the classical age before computers. A
transposition cipher involved merely arranging the letters in a message while a substitution cipher
involved changing the letters in a message to a different one in the alphabet or to a symbol. Julius
Ceasar used a form of substitution cipher in which he simply changed the letter to its respected
position three spaces in front of it in the alphabet. As one can imagine, such a cipher was easy to
break just from analyzing the ciphertext, and thus more complicated ciphers involving
mathematical theory were created. However as the advancement of cryptography continued, so did
its contrary field of cryptanalysis, the interpretation of protocols. This arrived at the discovery of
frequency analysis; the process in which the repetition of certain characters in a language is greater
than those of other characters. Thus the frequency of certain meaningless characters in a ciphertext
would be higher than those of other ones. This meant that a new method of encrypting messages
had to be invented as any cipher could be broken. This new method involved putting a private key (
a string of characters) into the cipher so that

What Is The Impact Of The Legal And Regulatory Framework

Obasan, by Joy Kogawa Essay
Obasan, by Joy Kogawa Today, society has become a boisterous world of communication. From
telephone conversations to live Internet chat and e mail, the world has never before been quite so
in touch. In the novel Obasan, by Joy Kogawa, Naomi Nakane does not have technology to
communicate. Instead, she faces the dilemma of communicating at all. From her family, Naomiis
shown the many faceted truths of speech and communication. From strong, silent Obasan, to
stubborn, resolute Aunt Emily, Naomi finds that one can correspond with others through silence as
well as through speech. As a child, Naomi spends much of her life in non communicative silence,

Unfortunately, for the quiet Naomi, Emily also believes that in order to be at peace with your past
you must stand up and yell at those at fault for reconciliation. Emily shows that her beliefs remain
contingent upon facts, and that everyone needs to be on the same page before healing can begin.
It matters to get the facts straight...Reconciliation can t begin without mutual recognition of the
facts, she said.
Facts? [said Naomi]
Yes, facts. What s right is right. What s wrong is wrong. Health starts somewhere. (Obasan 219)
Naomi cannot comprehend the angle with which her aunt approaches life.
While Naomi may believe reconciliation is in order, she is only discouraged when she looks to
see where speech has placed her Aunt Emily. If Aunt Emily with her billions of letters and articles

contentment, what was the point (Obasan 50). Naomi becomes more and more frustrated when she
sees the futile efforts of her Aunt. Albeit, she does believe that what her Aunt is doing is important
for her Aunt, she cannot see the use if the results of such hard laborious tasks go for naught.
All of Aunt Emily s words, all her papers, the telegrams and petitions, are like scratchings in the

Advertising Strategy Essay 5
An advertising strategy is a campaign developed to communicate ideas about products and services
to potential consumers in the hopes of convincing them to buy those products and services. This
strategy, when built in a rational and intelligent manner, will reflect other business considerations
(overall budget, brand recognition efforts) and objectives (public image enhancement, market share
growth) as well. As Portable MBA in Marketing authors Alexander Hiam and Charles D. Schewe
stated, a business s advertisingstrategy determines the character of the company s public face.
Even though a small business has limited capital and is unable to devote as much money to
advertising as a large corporation, it can still develop a highly effective... Show more content on

Demographics Age, gender, job, income, ethnicity, and hobbies. 2. Behaviors When considering
the consumers behavior an advertiser needs to examine the consumers awareness of the business
and its competition, the type of vendors and services the consumer currently uses, and the types of
appeals that are likely to convince the consumer to give the advertiser s product or service a
chance. 3. Needs and Desires Here an advertiser must determine the consumer needs both in
practical terms and in terms of self image, etc. and the kind of pitch/message that will convince the
consumer that the advertiser s services or products can fulfill those needs.
PRODUCT CONCEPT The product concept grows out of the guidelines established in the
positioning statement. How the product is positioned within the market will dictate the kind of
values the product represents, and thus how the target consumer will receive that product.
Therefore, it is important to remember that no product is just itself, but, as Courtland L. Bovee and
William F. Arens stated in Contemporary Advertising, a bundle of values that the consumer needs
to be able to identify with. Whether couched in presentations that emphasize sex, humor, romance,
science, masculinity, or femininity, the consumer must be able to believe in the product s
representation.

Shock Therapy In The Shock Doctrine, By Naomi Klein
The novel, The Shock Doctrine, by Naomi Klein consists twenty one chapters divided into seven
parts. The novel also includes an introduction and a conclusion. The author could have potentially
chosen this topic because she was curious of the correlation between original shock therapy and
Milton Friedman s economic shock theory. The topic, indefinitely interested Klein, as she felt the
inclination to conduct further research and see where Friedman s theory had actually taken place
within the world. Her research came up successful, with her finding numerous cases, which were
outlined in her book, where economic shock theory has been applied to Poland, South Africa, and
Russia during the 1997 financial crisis. It is without a doubt true... Show more content on

These cases all reinforce her theory that the government waits for disasters to take place in order
to implement policies that would traditionally not be accepted in a state of peace. The main theme
of her novel is comparing free market capitalism to shock therapy. Shock therapy was used decades
ago in order to produce a clean slate , by essentially wiping the mind of the victim. The two main
themes introduced in Naomi Klein s novel are; firstly, individuals with the intention to implement
the shock doctrine seek a blank slate , in which they could potentially create their perspective of a
free market economy. In order for this to happen though, it directly requires the destruction of the
preexisting economic order. The second theme in Klein s book explores the similarity between
economic shock doctrine and the archaic shock therapy, which were essentially electric shocks
administered to mentally ill patients with the intention to wipe their minds.
Milton Friedman, one of the earliest economists, believed that profit in the market drove every
aspect of life. This was from schools to health care, even the army. He called for abolishing all
trade protecting, deregulating all prices and eviscerating government services (all wildly
unpopular). All these measures made prices soar and unemployment increase, as well as make life
more precarious for the working

Class Structure In College Campuses
In the 2001 Reese Witherspoon classic Legally Blonde, Elle Woods, a typical blonde sorority
girl, declares Everybody likes me ! This mindset follows sororities and fraternities as they
typically occupy the top of the class structure in colleges everywhere, simultaneously mirroring the
American class structure. White, upper class men and women take to greek life in order to
fraternize with people like them, or their brothers and sisters . The University of Richmond
simultaneously incorporates this concept, as greek life students are more revered and typically
more sociable, and popular than non affiliated students. The class structure in college campuses,
revolving around greek life, simulates that of the outside world, and places rich, white students
into the elitist upper class of college life. The University of Richmond s sororities and fraternities
have a financial commitment to join. Students must pay dues to join, and unlike UR, campuses
with special greek housing have to pay extra to live with their brothers or sisters. For students on
financial aid or taking student loans, greek dues may be too expensive, which inhibits that student
from joining and reaping the benefits, social or professional. The dues alone are very... Show more

Analyzing Clinton s Speech About Women s Rights
Analyzing Clinton s speech about women s rights. On September 5, 1995, many countries came
together in Beijing China to hear Hillary Clinton s speech about women s rights. This speech was
the United Nations Fourth World Conference of Women. Clinton addressed problems that needed
to be corrected in many countries around the world, including the United States regarding the
liberties of women, and why it was authoritative that they receive these freedoms. According to
Clinton s speech (1995), The great challenge of this conference is to give voice to women
everywhere whose experiences go unnoticed, whose words go unheard (pg.2). In her speech she
strategically used ethos, pathos and logos. Clinton made it clear that she understands the callous
disregard women received and expressed her thoughts using ethos. For the first part Clinton states
that Earlier today, I participated in a World Health Organization forum. In that forum, we talked
about ways that government officials, NGOs, and individual citizens are working to address the
health problems of women and girls. Tomorrow, I will attend a gathering of the United Nations

are soaring each year. The local school districts are suffering from worsening financial situations

rates measure the amount of students who drop out of school in a year without completing a certain
level of schooling.
Status dropout rates are reported by the NCES (The U.S. National Center for Education Statistics)

The PS2 offers a reasonably powerful processor, about 297MHz (Megahertz). It may seem a
little bit on the sluggish side compared to the processor of Xbox, about 733MHz, and to the
GameCube processor, about 485MHz. If you ask me, I think that 733MHz is a little much for a

although Nintendo is developing a DVD playing GameCube, it will probably be well over what it is

Theme Of Pullman In Northern Lights
In Addition, Pullman s hate to the Church. Pullman always attacks churches and priesthoods, the
trouble is that all too often in human history, churches and priesthoods have set themselves up to
rule people s lives in the name of some invisible god (and they re all invisible, because they don t
exist) and done terrible damage. In the name of their god, they have burned, hanged, tortured,
maimed, robbed, violated, and enslaved millions of their fellow creatures, and done so with the
happy conviction that they were doing the will of god, and they would go to Heaven for it. That
is the religion I hate, and I m happy to knowns as its enemy . Pullman make the reader ask
magnificent questions, like questions about universe and how the universe was made, makes the
Catholic Church accused Pullman s writings as anti Christian and accused him of promoting a

The Skin Or Integumentary System
The Skin or integumentary system is the largest organ in the human body. Its main purpose and or
function is to shield the entire body from the outer environment. Without the presence of the
integument, our bodies would be completely vulnerable to various factors such as temperature
change, mechanical damage, chemical destruction, and bacterial disturbance. Analyzing and
understanding the skins structure and various functions will help us find ways to properly maintain
this crucial organ protecting our bodies.
Structure Function
As mentioned earlier, the skin is the largest organ in the body, accounting for approximately 16%
of the total body weight of an adult (McLafferty E, Hendry C, Alistair F. 2012). Throughout the
body we see that skin has many variations of thickness which usually is determined by the specific
function of the body area. Consisting of sweat glands that react to changes in temperature, and
extensive layer of adipose tissue, and cells that are in charge of identifying changes in temperature,
touch, and pressure. The skin is comprised of two main layers, the upper epidermis layer, and the
lower dermis layer. Constructed of keratinized squamous epithelium, the epidermis contains four
primary types of cells. The first and most abundant are keratinocytes charged with the production
of keratin, a protein that helps give the epidermis its protective layer. Next up are cells known as
melanocytes which are responsible for the synthesis of the skin

Employee Rights in the Workplace
Abstract Our world of technological advances is growing day by day. So much so, in fact, that
new laws are created to help determine the legal responsibilities and actions to be taken if an

discussed. Some of the laws that represent the employer and employee as well as why an
employer would want to monitor an employee will also are discussed. Although employee
monitoring is beneficial to an employer for a variety of reasons, it is better for an employer to

(В¶6) A second reason would be to track the amount of time an employee spends away from the
computer or how long the employees computer is idle. (В¶6).
If we, as employees put ourselves in the employer s shoes, we would want to know if our
employees were being productive for the job that they were hired to do. If someone were to
perform a search on the Internet for employee monitoring tools, he or she would find that the
market is flooded with these types of tools. In 1993, there were an estimated 27 million worldwide
employees being monitoring in the workplace and that number is still growing (В¶8).
Advantages and Disadvantages of Monitoring Some of the advantages of employee monitoring
are that email use can be limited, viruses can be prevented from corrupting company computer
systems, inappropriate acts and uses of language can be intercepted before any harm is done,
and companies can stop leaks of proprietary information. Some of the disadvantages of employee
monitoring are, as stated earlier, an employees feeling of lack of trust, a feeling of no privacy at
work, and the possibility of employers being sued by employees for fear that their privacy has
been violated. One type of violation that can occur happened to a Massachusetts college secretary

the reactors since they are almost to the forty year statutory limit. All of the 18 reactors, which
includes the five at Fukushima and 13 more in Japan will turn forty years old in the next ten years

Advancements in Women s Rights Over the Past 100 Years Essay
Most cultures and societies through both history, and today have viewed women as the weaker sex
. Often they labeled unfit to perform many jobs outside of child bearing and domestic chores, even
considered less intelligent than men are. In the past, this attitude translated into fewer jobs for
women, below average pay, and poor working conditions.
This continues today, despite the many great advances women have made in the past 100 years.
This is evident in the Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) fields, where a man is far more
likely to get the position than a woman is. The rate of males EMTs compared to femaleEMTs was a
ration of 8 1 in 2010. During my research, I came across a website which states,
Female Medics are Deadly! ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another reason for job inequality could be the misconception that women are unable to make
rational decisions, because they are emotionally driven. Women are emotional creatures, but their
emotions do not override common sense. Typically, women have to study more, and work harder
than a man to achieve their position of power. According to the Harvard Business Review
Women, still face tougher odds not only getting into, but also staying in the C suite. (CEO). They
conducted a study in which they studied the leadership of the world s top 2000 companies; they
found that 29 (1.5%) of those CEOs were women. The Harvard Business Review also notes the
difference between men and women CEOs and suggests that women still aren t treated as equals to
men when it comes to high stakes positions. Another study by Darden Professor Erica James
reported that stock in a company drops after the announcement of a female CEO, but not after that
of a male CEO.
As time went on women continued their struggle to earn their right even today. In some areas
around the world, women are still expected to be those perfect 50 s housewives where they cook,
clean, make, and raise the children. In areas around the world like Israel, women who cannot have
children appear as something useless to society. Their husbands

Essay about Nature’s Influence on the War of 1812
Nature s Influence on the War of 1812
Mother Nature played a part in every event in history, including the War of 1812. The War of
1812 was a conflict between the United States of America and Great Britain that had been
building for many years. By the end of the war however there was no clear victor and the issues
that caused the conflict were never resolved. Nature played a crucial role in the outcome. Because
of humanity s natural strive for power, the living and fighting conditions of the soldiers, and the
geographical layout of the countries involved, nature was a driving force during the War of 1812.
Hunger and greed are a part of human nature as much, if not more than, any other emotion. The
struggle for power and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This alliance increased the tension between the British and the Americans.
The Americans had been trying to convert the Indians to farmers so they could take over their
hunting land, and the American public was concerned that if the British supplied the Indians with
weapons it would incite dangerous riots and revolts. To make matters worse for the American the
Indians were being led by Chief Tecumsehwho wished to unite all of the Indians into essentially
one tribe to assist in their fight for land. This would have most likely been successful had his
brother known as The Prophet led the Indians into battle against William Henry Harrison s army at
the Battle of Tippecanoe which led to the massacre of Indians Tecumseh had been away negotiating
at the time and returned to find his work completely undone, so he joined what little forces he had
left with the British. Tecumseh was killed at the Battle of Moraviantown on the Thames River.1
Not only were the Indians involved in the battle between the British and Americans. Also during
this time period it seemed that the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte could not keep his
influence out of any international business. In 1806 Napoleon forced the neutral trading ships
going through Europe, mainly the American ones, to choose between Britain and France. The
American ships did not appreciate this and responded with a blockade leading to the

It s Time To Colonize Other Planets
Many space scientists have been theorizing the colonization of Earth s Moon, Mars, and some of
the farther planet s moons like one of Jupiter s moons, Titan. People on Earth have been consuming
an excessive amount each year, which is more than what our planet can handle. Plus, our population
is only bound to grow, but Earthwill unable to be as resourceful as it is now for future generations.
Not only is that a problem, but climate change is another large factor in the move from Earth to
Mars or the Moon. Scientists from NASA, European Space Agency, SpaceX, and Boeing space
explorationcompanies have been discovering numerous possibilities on how we can colonize
other planets in our solar system. Many of these ideas are focused around how we get out of our
atmosphere, ways to make the travel in a shorter time, and what kinds of people they d be sending
up into space. Some have thought... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Colonizing other planets and moons could be beneficial to the world because it gives us a new
future and ensures a life for humans if anything happened to Earth, People argue that it is
expensive and hard to do, however after a lot of analyzing from space travel scientists, it is more
simple and less expensive than what critics claim.
Colonizing the moon would be beneficial because it could be cheap and done quicker compared to
the relative benefits to humanity. Fecht writes, Returning humans to the moon could cost 90
percent less than expected, bringing estimated costs down from $100 billion to $10 billion (Fecht).

Use Of Imagery In Macbeth
Shakespeare, distinctive yet similar to other playwrights, uses vivid imagery to foretell the
subsequent acts of his play. This is very much apparent in Act 4, where Shakespeare manifests the
future of Macbeth s fate in a series of apparitions. The first apparition, an armed head, warns
Macbeth of the danger of MacDuff. MacDuff appreciates this warning but is relatively unalarmed
by MacDuff as shown in the following quote, Whate er thou art, for thy good caution, thanks. Thou
hast harped my fear aright (4.1.75 67). Despite Macbeths relaxed, initial reaction, I do think that
Shakespeare had a clear purpose in this apparition. This derives from the fact that MacDuff would
be a worthy foe of Macbeth in the future. Macbeth presently, however,

Internet Predators
Why we should be worried about the Deep web
Unknown to most, the Deep Web actually exists and only takes a few clicks on your computer
to access it, if you know what you re doing. Also unknown to most is the illegal activity and the
online predators that are roaming all over the web. These predators can be financial predators or
sexual predators. Throughout this essay I will be explaining three themes in chronological order.
Financial predators, sexual predators, and discussing why the illegal activity on the Deep web is
bad for society.
Financial predators are everywhere on the web, and they might cost you a fortune. Financial
predators host scams and use fake identities to get bank details to rip you off through an online
purchase that you think is safe. An example of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As thousands of sexual predators roam the web and on most commonly used sites, only 18% of
youth use chat rooms, however the majority of internet initiated sex crimes against children are
initiated in chat rooms. An example of a sexual predator could be an online predator targeting
young victims trying to get sexual related images from them by targeting young vulnerable
people, unable to judge the seriousness of the situation or through blackmail. This is what
happened in the case of Scottish teenager Daniel Perry earlier this year, resulting in his suicide.
Sexual predators can also be connected to the Deep web by exploiting nudity or sexual content
of a child or young adult on a CP website, which stands for child pornography. These can also be
sold on the Deep web for an exchange of bitcoin. These are just more examples of why we should
be worried and most importantly informed of how dangerous the Deep web is so we can avoid the
bad situations we may come

Abigail lead girls to the forest where they all danced around a fire, when they were found, the girls were brought to trial. • 5. The Road Not Taken By Robert Frost Choosing the right path is hard when there is a lot at stake to lose. Sometimes doing what is best for you may hurt the ones you love. It is sometimes necessary to take a chance and choose the riskier path to see what is behind the next bend, or corner. The poem, The Road Not Taken describes a person having a hard time choosing what path to take. Robert Frost elicits the central idea, theme, meaning, and how the speaker came to his decision by the use of metaphors describing the want for his readers to think through the hard decisions in life. One decision in life can make you or break you. It is all on how a person approaches the situation. Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, Frost introduces the metaphor of two diverging roads. He is depicting that it is fall by using the lexicon yellow wood . Fall is symbolic of a time of change. And sorry I could not travel both Robert Frost is sorry that must make a choice. The engraving illustrates Adam and Eve in a heavily wooded background surrounded by animals with precise detail. Proportion is used on the female and male bodies to represent the human body. Both individuals are larger than the animals to demonstrate that they are closer and the animals in the background are further from the audience s view. To increase the visually realistic representation both Adam and Everesemble sculptures with the use the classical contrapposto in the 2D engraving. I found the 2D oil on wood Portrait of Martin Luther by Lucas Cranach the Elder to be the least appealing. The artist s use of yellows, reds, and browns limits the paintings aesthetic appeal. The proportion in relation to his arms is too small for his body. His hands seem out of place in this portrait. The 3D marble pieta sculpture of in the Museo dell Opera del Duomo lacked variety in its color scheme. I disliked this sculpture due to its dark solid marble color which created a dull scene. Therefore, Eastern and Western cultures mentioned below are relatively right in most circumstances, not all of them. • 12. The Bloody Chamber By Angela Carter Loneliness is a complex and usually an unpleasant emotional response to isolation as well as separation; it is a product of the lack of contact experienced with another individual. Moreover, it includes anxious feelings due to the absence of connection or communication with other beings, both in the present and extending into the future. Some describe it as emptiness or hollowness inside of one s being. In the narrative The Bloody Chamber (1979), Angela Carter s characters deal with the emotionof loneliness by taking action and intervening through any circumstances. In contrast, in Zadie Smith s Hanwell in Hell (2004) the main characters Clive and Hanwell deal with loneliness simply through hope. While over twenty years apart, these two narratives explore how an individual deals with the notion of loneliness through the use of the colour red, the symbolism in animals, and the condition of blindness. However, Carter illustrates the refusal of the protagonistto simply accept any circumstances; but the interference in any situation. On the other hand, Smith demonstrates the acceptance and balance of the existing situation at hand through hope. Writers and poets use colors to represent concrete images of their characters, scenes and events. Language itself uses a system of symbols, either verbal or written, which enables colors to have a deeper meaning. After sending his right hand man Creon to an oracle and finding out that the man who killed King Laius, the former king of Thebes, is the one who brought the plague upon Thebes, Oedipus calls for the village prophet to tell him who is the murderer of Laius. Oedipus bothers the prophet Teiresias until he gets an answer, however, the answer was not one to his liking; Teiresias tells Oedipus that [he is] the land s pollution (Line 353). The officer gave the defendant a warning and then asked him if there was any contraband in the vehicle or whether there was a chance anyone else could have placed any contraband in the vehicle. Although the defendant answered in the negative, the officer returned to his patrol vehicle and asked if there was a canine unit available. There was not and so the officer told the defendant that he was free to leave. Shortly afterwards, the officer saw the defendant speeding once again down the road. The officer proceeded to pull him over and gave him another warning. The officer again asked him if he could search the vehicle and the defendant answered in the affirmative. The officers then opened the trunk to find 338 pounds of marijuana, a can of air freshener under the driver s seat and several toilet bowl sanitizers in the compartment ofthe vehicle as well as the trunk. These were all indicative of an attempt to mask the smell of marijuana. At trial, the defendant argued that he had taken his vehicle to a repair shop, implying that someone else had placed the drugs in the car. This is evident in the music videos and song lyrics that brag about spending money on luxurious items, drugs, alcohol, and women instead of things that actually bolster the community. Yes, it is both unrealistic and unfair to put hip hop on a pedestal and assume that it would completely reform the economy of a community, but its influence was and still is deeply rooted and powerful enough to have the ability to bring positive changes to the black community in the United States. Hip hop has brought negative changes to the community so it is definitely not far fetched to think that it has the ability to bring positive changes. Whether it be a letter to a lover or a set of orders for an army, it would be paramount for these messages to arrive unknown and untouched. However at some point, a person could easily apprehend the message; perhaps a spy or the letter bearer, nevertheless the chance of the message being compromised would be quite high. Thus one would have to change the message to appear as meaningless nonsense to those others than the intended recipient. This idea formed the basis of cryptography, the backbone of digital security. Cryptography is the study and practice of secure communications between two parties usually in the presence of a malicious entity,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus by only knowing what the cipher was, one would know what the original message was. Early ciphers were primitive and involved the manipulation of the characters in a message. A transposition and substitution cipher was very common in the classical age before computers. A transposition cipher involved merely arranging the letters in a message while a substitution cipher involved changing the letters in a message to a different one in the alphabet or to a symbol. Julius Ceasar used a form of substitution cipher in which he simply changed the letter to its respected position three spaces in front of it in the alphabet. As one can imagine, such a cipher was easy to break just from analyzing the ciphertext, and thus more complicated ciphers involving mathematical theory were created. However as the advancement of cryptography continued, so did its contrary field of cryptanalysis, the interpretation of protocols. This arrived at the discovery of frequency analysis; the process in which the repetition of certain characters in a language is greater than those of other characters. Thus the frequency of certain meaningless characters in a ciphertext would be higher than those of other ones. This meant that a new method of encrypting messages had to be invented as any cipher could be broken. This new method involved putting a private key ( a string of characters) into the cipher so that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Needs and Desires Here an advertiser must determine the consumer needs both in practical terms and in terms of self image, etc. and the kind of pitch/message that will convince the consumer that the advertiser s services or products can fulfill those needs. PRODUCT CONCEPT The product concept grows out of the guidelines established in the positioning statement. How the product is positioned within the market will dictate the kind of values the product represents, and thus how the target consumer will receive that product. Therefore, it is important to remember that no product is just itself, but, as Courtland L. Bovee and William F. • 27. Shock Therapy In The Shock Doctrine, By Naomi Klein The novel, The Shock Doctrine, by Naomi Klein consists twenty one chapters divided into seven parts. The novel also includes an introduction and a conclusion. The author could have potentially chosen this topic because she was curious of the correlation between original shock therapy and Milton Friedman s economic shock theory. The topic, indefinitely interested Klein, as she felt the inclination to conduct further research and see where Friedman s theory had actually taken place within the world. Her research came up successful, with her finding numerous cases, which were outlined in her book, where economic shock theory has been applied to Poland, South Africa, and Russia during the 1997 financial crisis. These cases all reinforce her theory that the government waits for disasters to take place in order to implement policies that would traditionally not be accepted in a state of peace. The main theme of her novel is comparing free market capitalism to shock therapy. Shock therapy was used decades ago in order to produce a clean slate , by essentially wiping the mind of the victim. The two main themes introduced in Naomi Klein s novel are; firstly, individuals with the intention to implement the shock doctrine seek a blank slate , in which they could potentially create their perspective of a free market economy. In order for this to happen though, it directly requires the destruction of the preexisting economic order. The second theme in Klein s book explores the similarity between economic shock doctrine and the archaic shock therapy, which were essentially electric shocks administered to mentally ill patients with the intention to wipe their minds. Milton Friedman, one of the earliest economists, believed that profit in the market drove every aspect of life. This was from schools to health care, even the army. He called for abolishing all trade protecting, deregulating all prices and eviscerating government services (all wildly unpopular). White, upper class men and women take to greek life in order to fraternize with people like them, or their brothers and sisters . The University of Richmond s sororities and fraternities have a financial commitment to join.
