South Dakota State Penitentiary At The University Of Sioux...
March 29, 1998 was just another typical day for headline news in Sioux Falls. The Argus Leader
was filled with your everyday politics, sports, entertainment, weather, and life news. Eight inmates
serving life sentence in the South Dakota State Penitentiary met to discuss better living conditions
for all prisoners (Steen). On a more positive note, the annual Sioux Empire water festival was held
at the University of Sioux Falls. Around 2,200 fourth graders, from surrounding communities,
gather to learn more about the abundance of their natural resources, and how to preserve them.
Thirty booths were set up at the site displaying how to make snow, how to snorkel, and how to
make bubbles the size of humans (Olson). As far as youth sports, nothing was more popular than
the tri state basketball tournament held every year in Sioux Falls. The event attracted over 2,900
athletes as well 289 teams ( Tri State Crowns 30 Champions 5C ). While these events happened in
our area more headline news caught the eye of South Dakotacitizens. Senator Tom Daschle
proposed a bill that had the potential to lead to the development of more wetlands in South
Dakota. The bill offered tax credits to farmers who preserved wetlands not enrolled in the
Conservation reserve program or wetland reserve program (Olson). With the Winter of 1997 1998
being so short schools, banks, city crews, and churches were able to catch up on their budgets.
Schools didn t have to call off any days, city crews

Nymph s Spinster
Sylvia Plath s Spinster was effective in presenting its view that love is unrealistic, however, Sir
Walter Raleigh s The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd was more direct. Sylvia Plath s sixains and
uneven lines contradicted the speaker s view that love is disorderly. The Nymph s Reply to the
Shepherd followed the Iambic pentameter that complimented the speaker s argument that of why
loveis incredulous between an immortal and a mortal. Through tone, symbolism, imagery, and
worldview Sir Walter Raleighmanages to present the Nymph s attitude toward love in a artistic and
effective way.
Plath s tone in Spinster is cynical. The poem consist of an angry rant against love, which is
presented by Spring (Plant 22). To the speaker love isn t worthwhile... Show more content on

The shepherd presents the nymph with flowers, shoes, and beds of roses to persuade her, but
they fail to meet the nymph s conditions, All these in me no means can move (Raleigh 19). The
gifts can t move her because with time the shepherd s gifts would, Soon break, soon wither
(Raleigh 16). The gifts are no use to the nymph as an immortal being. The symbolism in Spinster
is similar to Raleigh s because just immortality and mortality can t coexist, neither can spring or
winter. The speaker in Spinster can be tempted by spring which is a symbol of love because,
Only idiots/Reel giddy in bedlam spring (Plath 22). The speaker doesn t appreciate bird songs or
other the other beauties of spring and refers to a bird s song as Irregular babel (Plath 5). The
speaker prefers winter (isolation) because everything is in its order and there is discipline that
helps the speaker feel in control (Plath 13,14,17). Imagery in the Nymph s Reply to the
Shepherd helps reinforce the speaker s view that love is unrealistic. The imager of flowers do
fade portrays how the gifts that the shepherd offers the nymph only last for a short period of
time. The gifts are a symbol of the shepherd s love, therefore the shepherd s love will also fade.
The promise of love is unrealistic because the shepherd believes that love materialistic, which
makes the shepherd s love unrealistic because as a young man, the shepherd himself

Family And Consumer Sciences Education Essay
Family and Consumer Sciences Education has tremendously evolved since its beginning roots
with Ellen Swallow Richards. FCS has obtained a new role within public schools and the
community, far different than it was before. What was previously seen as the classes for women is
now a requirement for high schoolgraduation plans. The positive societal views of Family and
Consumer Sciences is increasing the development as well as furthering the program. The
following analyzes and examines the Family and Consumer Sciences curriculum that is currently
being implemented in Texas public schools. The role of Family and Consumer Sciences in public
school is reflected through multiple social trends and influences. One of the most dominant and
interdependent trends is digital technology. The world of technology has immensely transformed
over the past ten years. These modifications have revolutionized the way a teacher educates as
well as the way a student learns. Sewing machines, for instance, have been significantly modified.
Machines now have a mind of their own as they can individually function off of the press of a
button. This technological advancement will play a role in how a teacher, who was once taught
on a basic machine, instructs. Digital technology s role in FCS can be clearly depicted through any
course of study. As digital technology continues to evolve, so will the Family and Consumer
Sciences courses and the methods of teaching/ learning. FCS also engages in the role

Essay about Commentary on the Novel Peace like a River by...
Negative Peace?
Can something as positive as peace, sadly, turn negative? Throughout the book Peace like a River
by Leif Enger, a negative mood, surprisingly, is established. When the story itself does maintain a
positive influence, it s almost as if the negativity takes a higher dominance. In this novel, narrated
by the middle child, Reuben, who has severe asthma, the reader is introduced to the very unique
Land family. Jeremiah, the father and main provider of this family has three children, two boys
and a girl; Reuben and Davy are both older than their sister Swede. However, Helen, the wife of
Jeremiah and the mother of the three kids, left the family when Jeremiah turned his career path
around to become a school janitor. The Land ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Land family enters turmoil when Jeremiah is fired from his job and struggles from
pneumonia. After some time, Christmas comes around and Reuben spends the money he
worked very hard for on groceries for the family. Mr. Decuellar, Davy s lawyer later brings the
family an Airstream trailer from an old friend, Tin Lurvy. Previously, it was revealed that
Jeremiah had received a letter from August about Davy s arrival. Jeremiah later recovers from
his sickness, packs up the trailer, and sets off with the family in the trailer; leaving the now
dreary town of Roofing behind. Finally, the family arrives in North Dakota and receives news
on Davy s wellbeing, but also finds out that he is still on the run. All in all, in the book Peace
like a River, a negative mood is established whether it be directly from the first chapter, when
trouble enters the Land household, or through times of economic suffering. First, negativity
enters early within the first few pages during the dramatic birth of Reuben Land. When Reuben
was born, his dad, Jeremiah wasn t even in the room. He only arrived later when God was told to
have made him run to the delivery room. Sadly, Reuben s lungs were, at first, defective and it
was starting to look as if he wasn t going to make it. The doctor, Dr. Nokes had delivered the baby
and had practically given up on poor Reuben s life. It was unavoidable, he was saying; nothing
could be done; perhaps it was for the best, (2). Negativity now ensues, no

An Alternate Ending To Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
The thundering footsteps of the march sang in chorus with the rumble of the blackened sky. The
rain pelted down like bullets mercilessly penetrating deep into the earth. The smell of chaos and
fear drifted into the cool, steel air and was carried away with the gush of breeze. The noise of
confusion overpowered the sound of raindrops that shattered on the tile roofs. People strolled out
of their houses with curiosity about the commotion at the centre of the village. The villagers held
deadly weapons in their tight grasps that seem capable of mutilating the mightiest of beasts. For a
moment time seemed to stop, the rain ceased to fall and the villagers were in a silent trance. There

it! Others began to yell in unison, the flash of thunder illuminated the sea of menacing faces as
they thrust their weapons in the air. I say, The large man who now seemed powerless and small
next to the gigantic Beast shouted, we burn it, leaving one single breath in its lungs, then we
tear it from limbs to limbs! The roar of agreement erupted from the villagers. Some scattered to

The Ballet Of The Italian Renaissance Essay
Ballet originated in the Italian Renaissance courts of the 15th century and later developed into a
concert dance form in France and Russia. Barre is French for bar, and a barre has been used in
ballet training as a support to help with balance while practicing traditional ballet technique.
Modern barre techniques can be traced back to Lotte Berk who, like Joseph Pilates, fled
Germany because of the Nazis. (Lotte Berk fled to the UK in 1938 because she was Jewish, while
Pilates fled to New York City supposedly because the Nazis wanted to recruit him to train the uber
German body).
Lotte Berk developed a fitness regime in the UK that incorporated barre and other dance related
and core strengthening exercises. Her technique was popular in the sixties and seventies in New
York city and other cities around the world. Since then other individuals and companies have
developed barre programs that use a ballet barre and incorporate different fitness concepts. Now
there are many fitness franchises in the US that incorporate the ballet barre.
How is Ellie Herman s Brooklyn Barre different from other Barre Methods?
While many of the current barre methods do exercises that may make your legs and tummy look
good, they ultimately can damage the knee joints and lumbar spine.
Neutral Pelvis v. Flat Back
Like classical Pilates and the Lotte Berk method, many of the current barre franchise regimes place
the pelvis in a poster pelvic tilt instead of a neutral pelvis. Why is this

Thru Cole s The Expulsion From The Garden Of Eden
During the nineteenth century, artists wanted to create awareness of nature before it changed
completely. The landscape paintings represent more than the beauty of nature: it can trigger a
memory, tell a story, document a moment. Thru Cole s painting of 1828, where he illustrates
the story of Adam and Eve expulsion from the Paradise land, I remember the moment when I
returned to Venezuela after spending one year abroad. The Expulsion from the Garden of Eden
is based on the biblical metaphor of Adam and Eve; who had the opportunity to live in a paradise
land, with the exception that they wouldn t consume a fruit from a specific tree. This was
known as the forbidden fruit and if they were to eat it, their time in that world would be over
and they would be sent to a different world where hard work has required to obtain what you
desired. It might be a strange comparison: a biblical proverb and a trip back home, still, leaving a
country that had its problems, but has the right conditions to live in and returning to a country
where life had no value, people had no food and the life circumstances got worse day after day, can
be a parallel situation to the change of a paradise land to a world where people suffered the
consequences of their sins.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and shine, nature is somehow destroyed, fauna is wild, the sky is obscure and the mountains
cover the light of the sun; a world where the reality is, that if you want something you have to

Tragic Poetic In Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe
Aristotle was a famous disciple of Plato who first defines fine arts and he differs with his teacher
Plato in his book of Poetic. His Poetic deals with the principles of Poetic art in general and tragedy

Summary Of Brahms Symphony No. 4
Brahms wrote Symphony No. 4 in E Minor in 1884. The work was first performed in Meiningen,
Germany in October 1885 and was an instant success because of its masterful composition and
unique style. Brahms s music and his fourth symphony are often viewed as a bridge between the
music of the baroque and romantic era. Although Brahms is considered to be a romantic composer,
his musicis unique from others because you can hear both the style of older era composers and
features of romantic style in the texture of his works. This combination of baroque and romantic
style in his music helps create more balance in the music, which gives it a blend that captured
audiences and still entrances them today. Brahms was also inspired by study of Beethoven s
symphonies for their orchestral color and harmonic structure; Brahms incorporates these features
he enjoyed into his writing. The fourth movement of Brahms symphony No. 4 is titled Allegro
energico e passianato and is known for its use of the Baroque style of Chaconne and other features
that are found in the Romantic style as well. Some of these include chromaticism, a melody that
jumps between major and minor keys but does not settle into a single mode, and extended
techniques to creature a richness and a wide pallet of sounds.
Brahms was a scholar and had a strong interest in Baroque music. His fourth movement makes use
of the Chaconne style. It is a series of repeated variations and chord progressions, a form of ostinato
or bass

The Chinese Communist government has complete power over the legislation, economic and
cultural institutions. While western economies have governments that promote transparency for
doing business, China s Communist Party s rules and regulations have made transparency difficult
(Jayaraman, 2009). Large manufacturing companies can come under various and random
regulations and bureaucracies, and the Chinese promotes a form of social networking called
guanxiwang, where guanxi is the relationship between the individual and the entities of the network
(Jayaraman, 2009). With the heavy amount of corruption and the lack of transparency the
guanxiwang or the social network with connections with people from the communist party can help
western businesses avoid red tape and bureaucracy. The IMF told the international business world

Verification Of Motion Lab
Verification of Newton s 2nd Law of Motion
Introduction The objective of this lab was to test Newton s 2nd law of motion, which states that
the acceleration of an object is proportional to the sum of forces acting on it and inversely
proportional to its mass. This was done by connecting a cart to a hook with a string and using a
smart pulley to measure the acceleration of varying masses on the hook as it falls down. System
mass remains constant. A free body diagram and applying Newton s 2nd Law yields the following
relationship:
Where mass 1 is the mass of the cart and the weights it contains, while mass 2 is the hook and the
weights it holds. Thus the goal is to record data that follows this equation; as more masses are
added to the hook, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A smart pulley is clamped onto the side of the table and connected to a computer to sync with
Capstone. In Capstone, select the device as Photogate with Pulley. Set up a position vs time
graph to record data for. Attach a string to the cart, over the smart pulley, and latch it onto a 5g
hook to the side of the table. Obtain four weights: two 20g, one 50g, and one 100g. While
keeping the cart in place, keep one 20g weight on the hook and the remainder in the cart. Start
recording data from the smart pulley and release the cart so that it will slowly slide towards the
edge of the table. Grab the cart before it hits the pulley and stop recording data. Reset the cart s
position to 50 cm away from the edge. Repeat this process for the following masses on the hook:
40g (two 20g weights), 70g (one 20g weight and a 50g weight), 100g (just the 100g weight), and
170g (one 20g, 50g, and 100g). Keep the remainder weights on the cart. Be careful with the cart at
higher masses on the hook, as it will move quickly. Once the trials are completed, create quadratic
fits for the recorded data on Capstone. Make sure to remove unwanted data, such as the initial
motionless state of the cart and the adrupt halt of its motion. The acceleration of the system is two
times the value of the A constant in the curve fit; record this and do this for all trials.

Essay on Al Capone Biography
When I sell liquor, they call it bootlegging. When my patrons serve it on silver trays on Lake
Shore Drive, they call it hospitality. Al Capone [Woog, 25]
Al Capone was one of the most notorious gangsters during the 1920 s. He was a self made
business man. He had a ready smile and a quick handshake, which if you did not play your cards
right, could turn out to be fatal. It took 500 gangland murders to make Capone the boss of Chicago.
He was public enemy number one. Capone single handedly gave Chicago the nickname The
Lawless City.

He had everything to do with anything that involved gambling, sex, or alcohol.
Once Capone had everything he wanted in Chicago, he realized he was highly disliked by the
whole country because he began to hear comments on the street and in the newspapers.
Although he often did business with Capone, the mayor William Big Bull Hale Thompson,
wanted Capone out of Chicago because Capone was bad for Thompson s political image. So the
mayor hired a new police chief to run Capone out of the city, and he personally saw Capone out of
the city. Capone looked all over for a new location and he decided to move to an estate in Palm
Island, Florida in 1928.
Once Capone was out of the city, attempts on Capone s life were becoming regular but he had
connections with newspapers and policemen so he quickly found out about the plots. He, on the
other hand, was very discrete and clever about his murders. He would always have an alibi,
because he himself would rarely do the murdering.
His most notorious murder was the St. Valentine s Day massacre. On February 14, 1928, four of
Capone s men entered a garage of the Main Liquor warehouse for bootlegger George Bugs
Moran s North Side Gang. When the men entered the garage two of Capone s men were dressed
as police officers and therefore the North Side Gang dropped their weapons. When they did Capone

Advantages Of Swarm Robotics
Advances in Swarm Robotics and the Stability of a Swarm
INTRODUCTION
Swarm robotics is the new approach to the coordination of multi robot systems that consists of
many relatively smaller robots. The inspiration of this is the social behaviour of many animals and
insects like ants, geese etc. the terms Swarm Intelligence refers to the collective behaviour that is
the outcome of the work of the smaller individuals, each acting autonomously. Swarm intelligence
is a property of systems of non intelligent exhibiting a collectively intelligent behaviour.
Since the 1980 s, swarm robotics has become a major area of research. As new solution approaches
are being developed and validated, it is often possible to realize the advantages of swarm robotic
systems.
In a paper by Dudek et al in 1993, the research on swarm robotics was classified into five areas
which are swarm size, communication range, communication topology, communication bandwidth,
swarm re configurability and swarm unit processing ability. In another paper by Cao et al, the
survey of cooperative robotics was presented in a hierarchical way. This publication was also split
onto five main parts: group architecture, resource conflicts, origins of cooperation, learning and
geometric problems.

Social insects have the best examples of the best self organized behaviour. For example, ants and
bees are not as powerful alone as they are with their colony or hive respectively. By means of local

the health of the colony, caring for their young, responding to invasion and so on. Ants leave a
chemical substance, pheromone, behind to help guide other ants at a later point in time. Thomas et

Track And Field History
The History of Track and Field
Track and field, also known as athletics is one of the oldest sports in the history of man. It has
been proven throughout history that your economic status or culture don t keep you from
competing. You just have to train hard and give the people something to cheer for. Jesse Owens,
the first American in Olympic Track and Field history to win four gold medals in a single
Olympiad said it best, People come out to see you perform and you ve got to give them the best
you have within you. The lives of most men are patchwork quilts. Or at best one matching outfit
with a closet and a laundry bag full of incongruous accumulations. A lifetime of training for just 10
seconds. (Jesse Owens)
The athletic events included foot races, discus, javelin, long jump, wrestling, boxing. The first
record of a running event was a 600 foot long race. The first champion was a cook named
Koroibos. The race took place in a stadium near the city of Elis during the ancient Olympic Games
in the year of 776 B.C. The Olympic Games were men only events and lasted for eleven centuries
until a Theodosius I, a Christian emperor banned them in A.D. 394 because they conflicted with
religious festivals. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Amateur Athletic Club (AAC) and championship games. Then in 1873, America founded the first

Comparing Scarface 1932 And Scarface 1983
Remakes of films are a common occurrence. Sometimes remakes are incredible and introduce a
generation to great films of the past, however, sometimes they aim too high and miss the mark
completely. Scarface 1932 and Scarface 1983 is a great example of the latter. Scarface 1932 was the
first of its kind in many respects while Scarface1983 fell short. While at the core of both of these
films they are the same, there are a few small plot discrepancies, but the message of the rise and
fall of a man is identical. Visually these films are nothing alike. Beyond the obvious use of color in
the 1983 film, the lighting, spacing, and camera work are all different. Scarface1932 was
revolutionary in its use of low key lighting while Scarface 1983 followed typical lighting
conventions. The use of symbolism in Scarface 1932 was an added layer of complexity to the
film that Scarface 1983 did not have. One thing both films did face quite extensively was
censorship. Each film had to be heavily altered in some way in order for the public to view
them. While neither film was truly in the production code era each film felt the effects
regardless. On its own Scarface 1983 is not a bad film, but when compared to Scarface 1932 it
pales in comparison. When one looks into why remakes occur so frequently, the answer that is
found is nostalgia. Gangster films stem from nostalgia much like westerns do however in both
examples neither one is at all an accurate depiction of the time period. Many

Beast Fables In The Manciple s Tale
Beast fables function on both a covert and over basis in narrative. The beast fable is a type of fable
in which human behavior and weaknesses are subject to scrutiny by reflection into the animal
kingdom. The Manciple s Tale within Chaucer s Canterbury Tales depicts the discourse between
hierarchical classes in relationship with ideals and societal expectations regarding agency within
the class system implying that humans are the monsters because of their heinous actions toward
one another. The class system is stratified within the tale through careful depictions of Phoebus, his
wife, and the crow they serve to illustrate the inconsistencies that accompany the stagnant medieval
social hierarchy, while questioning the implications of violating one s expected norms. The crow
in the Manciple s Tale can be seen as a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Previous themes such as the corruptness of human nature, the futility of striving for better, and
the mutability of human will and deeds are presented to the audience again, but in a new
perspective possibly because the pilgrimage is about the end. Simultaneously, the lack of agency
the wife has works to strengthen the discourse between the societal stations, and the implications
of being of high, middle, or lower class. Later, in lines 172 and 173 Chaucer again calls the
medieval hierarchy into question, For ever this bird will work diligently to escape out of his cage,
if he can. Chaucer implies that cage of the immobile class system employed during this time period
should be tested, and potentially reformed. However, the climactic othering and silencing of the
crow at the tales end implies that there are obvious consequences for overstepping one s station.
The reading suggests that hierarchical status influences perception or consequential repercussions

Is Leavitt A Living Thing
I think the point Leavitt is making is how life is a very complicated subject to try to understand.
There may not ever be a true definition to the word life . Like Leavitt said, One could always
find exceptions. There is still no true distinction from living and nonliving things. Yes, all living
things are supposed to possess the traits of being able to reproduce, maintain homeostasis, take in
a form of energy whether it s through direct food intake, or from sunlight, and so on and so forth.
However, sometimes one thing that we may consider a living thing might not contain all of these
traits. One example is a virus. Some people say it s alive others say it s not. It can respond to
stimuli, has DNA to pass to offspring, and other simple

This inhibition at low concentrations prevented bone denigration and kept a healthy proliferation
rate of bone cells. This process was tracked with F ALN to demonstrate that ALN was taken into
cells from cell surface into bone marrows in the replanted teeth and into osteoblastic cells in vitro.
Local ALN treatment enhanced the growth of bone forming cells adjacent to the bone surfaces in
the in vivo model. Results were consistently affirming that N BPs can directly affect the osteoblast
growth and proliferation. This study found that 3 day treatment using rat osteoblastic cells with
ALN at an early differentiation stage induced upregulation of osteocalcin expression and
mineralization and a later differentiation stage. Treatment with high ALN concentrations caused
harmful effects with decreased cell viability and inhibition of cell differentiation. Bone formation
may be mediated directly by incorporation of ALN through inhibition of mevalonate pathway. N

A Compartment Of Tendon Progenitors
A Somitic Compartment of Tendon Progenitors Summary
Tendons are some of the most important tissues in the body of any organism, transferring the
power created by the muscles to the bones and allowing coordinated body movements to occur.
However, until recently there was very little known about the origin of this tissue and most of the
research performed focused on the limbs and the tendons associated with them. Along with the
limited amount of research seemingly none of it was focused on the axial and ventrolateral body
wall tendons. It was not until the discovery of Scleraxis (Scx), a bHLH transcription factor found in
progenitor cells and mature tendons, that tendons could be observed through the embryonic stages
(Schweitzer et al. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Upon confirming that axial and intercostal tendons originated from the somites, the researchers
wanted to determine if the other somitic compartments affected the syndetome fate. Double whole
mount in situ hybridization was used to compare Scx in progenitor cells, Pax1 in sclerotome, and
MyoD in myotome. Scx expression was restricted to the anterior and posterior borders while
MyoD expression was present in the center of the myotome with no overlap of the two markers.
When Scx was compared to Pax1 it appeared that they existed in the same region; however, Pax1
was expressed more ventromedial and Scx was closer to the myotome, these markers did not have
any overlap either. Additionally, Scx expression occurred much later in development compared to
MyoD and Pax1(Kiefer and Hauschka, 2001; Stockdale et al., 2000). It showed that the Scx
expression progenitor cells had a distinct fate producing a separate compartment of tendon
progenitor cells, which did not overlap with the adjacent tissues.
To establish the origin of the syndetome a fate map was created using a chick quail chimera where
two successive sclerotomes or dermomyotomes were transplanted from a quail to a chick embryo.
Utilizing in situ hybridization to visualize Scx expression and QCPN to identify quail cells,
sclerotome and Scx expressing tendon

The Intruder, A P, And The Bass, The River And Soul
Some of the best lessons we ever learn are learned from past mistakes. The error of the past is the
wisdom of the future (Dale Turner). This quote is about the theme of learning from your
mistakes which are used commonly in adolescent stories. Our adolescent years is where we
experience various lessons which help shape what we think when we are older and without a
doubt the lesson of learning from your mistakes is a crucial one and one we all have experienced
in our own lives. Some specific stories that incorporate this theme are The Intruder , A P , and The
bass, The River and Sheila Mant . In coming of age stories, the authors utilize the lesson of learning

I never want to see it again. (15 16). This quote displays that Kenneth doesn t want to live in his
wild imagination anymore and he doesn t want to make the same mistake again. Kenneth throwing
the rifle into the creek symbolizes Kenneth learning from his mistakes and him getting rid of the
terror that the rifle will now bring him whenever he uses it. The Intruder is a great example of the
lesson of learning from your mistakes because in the story Kenneth makes a devastating mistake, he
realizes it, he learns from it and most importantly he does something so it won t happen again.
The second story that helps support the thesis statement is A P . In this story a boy named
Sammy, tries to impress a group of girls by quitting his job as the girls were being kicked out of
the store where Sammy works. Sammy shortly after quitting realizes the mistake he has made and
how is was going to make his life tougher. One quote that displays this lesson is: Sammy, you don
t want to do this to your Mom and Dad, he tells me. It s true, I don t. But it seems to me that once
you begin a gesture it s fatal not to go through with it. This quote shows that Sammy doesn t even
want to do what he is doing and he knows it s a mistake, but he continues with it anyways. The
quote also claims that this will not only affect him but also his parents. When your actions start

The Women In “Trifles”. The Play “Trifles” , Written
By
The Women In Trifles
The play Trifles , written by Susan Glaspell allows us to experience the gender divide in the early
nineteen hundreds. While the play title gives the reader the idea that the story will be trivial or
unimportant, it is anything but. The play focuses on the fact that women are considered other or an
object (Beauvoir, 8). This is the complete opposite of men who are considered the subject , which
holds immense amount of values. These two definitions are polar opposites. In the piece Second
Sex, Beauvoir goes onto explain that this distinct difference between genders cause women to lose
their humanity or individuality. In this world, women have no authority since they are nothing
more than objects for men to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the beginning of the play it is obvious that our characters are vastly different levels of
importance. The men gain their importance from the type of people they are. The women, on the
other hand are defined by the men that they have married. The critic Beauvoir mentions in chapter
five of The Second Sex that Marriage is the reference by which the single woman is defined
(Beauvoir, 502). In society a woman only hold value based on the man that she has married. In
Trifles all the men are addressed by their birth given first or last names. However all the women
within the play are addressed by their last name given to them by marrying their husbands.
Beauvoir goes onto say that marriage was supposed to be a free choice between both spouses
and that the desire of marriage should be reciprocal. However, it has developed into a woman s
responsibility to marry, take her husband s last name, stay at home and be a housewife
(Beauvoir, 502). This concept is portrayed when Mrs. Hale describes Minnie before she married
Mr. Wright: I heard she used to wear pretty clothes and be lively, when she was Minnie Foster
(Glaspell, 984). Minnie was once her own individual who lived her life depending on what she
wanted to do. However, once she married Mr. Wright she lost her individuality and became his
object. When she was with her husband

The Is The Optimistic View On The World
A liberalist has an optimistic view on the world; precisely human nature. Although instability
exists in today s society, a liberal attempts to restrict this instability. Liberalists believe, Humans

believe that every individual has good qualities, however they sense that fear and uncertainty serve
as an obstacle in growth as a human being. Liberalism seeks progress and liberty, unlike realism,

The Importance Of Chlorinating Water For The Purpose...
Introduction:
The process of chlorinating water for the purpose purifying it, has only been around for just over
a hundred years. Although the process has been seen to have a great effect, in reducing the
amount of disease caught from drinking water (such as typhoid and cholera), it s been a heated
debate for years. The first case of water being disinfected on a mass scale, was done by a man
named John L. Leal. Leal was a physician by profession, but was thought by many to be a bit of a
mad man at the time, because of his idea that chlorine had the properties to disinfect water for
drinking. It was thought at the time, that if chlorine is poisonous when in a gaseous state, then
what s to say that it s not poisonous when it s added to water (creating calcium hydrochloride),
which it was (reference 1).Leal spent years of his life observing the effects were when very
small amounts of chloride of lime was added to bacteria filled water. He observed in more cases
than not that the chlorine of lime in the water, ended up killing almost all of the bacteria while
leaving it at a similar PH level of water. During the year of 1908, soon after Leal was given a job
at the Jersey City Water Supply, and with the help of his friend George Warren Fuller (an
engineer). In complete secrecy they installed a chloride of lime feed facility at the Boon
Reservoir, which was the main reservoir for Jersey City (reference 1). Three months after he

vision statements are future based and are meant to inspire and give directions to the employees of
the company, not anyone outside the company...and mission statements are present based
statements designed to convey a sense of why the company exists to both members of the company
and the external community (Kandampully Solnet, 2016) With this in mind, TTC s vision is to
create a transit system that makes Torontoproud, and the mission is to provide a reliable, efficient
and integrated bus, streetcar and subway network that draws its high standards of customer care
from our rich traditions of safety, service and courtesy (TTC corporation, 2013). Making Toronto
proud of TTC can only be accomplished when customers and the riders feel the convenience in
our everyday travel with TTC. No special advertisement, trademarks and no purge political
showy behavior can supplant real conveyance. Equally important, to provide a reliable, efficient

customers are not achieved from best looking and cleanest transit vehicles, it comes from how
reliable they are and personally the TTC is lacking on reliability due to frequent delays and lanes
closing for construction (Ferreira, 2016). In contrast, transit organization in Korea, Seoul Metro

sufficient progress has been made for women and that no other implementations must be made or

Give Me Death Rhetorical Analysis Essay
Virginian politician Patrick Henry, like many of the founding fathers, was concerned by England
s actions preceding the Revolutionary War and decided to voice this concern in arguably one of
the most critical speeches in political history, Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death . Henry used his
political passion and voice to convince the powerful politicians at the Second Virginia Convention
that England was violating its citizen s rights, and if specific measures were not taken, like forming
a militia, the colonies would face imminent danger. Henry s speech was so successful because he
crafted it specifically with his audience in mind. His knowledge of the distinguished men

To appeal to them emotionally, he focuses on their pride, something people tend to care highly
about. He likens England s grip on the colonists to slavery, There is no retreat but in submission
and slavery! Our chains are forged! , to make his audience think about how powerless they are to
England in that moment. He implies that England is taking away what they believe should be
their free will to govern on their own behalf (Henry 2). No one wishes to relinquish control of his
own life and turn it over to someone else and therefore this becomes a matter of pride. He urges
the men not to allow their voices to be silences by any form of government. By exclaiming [the
chains] clanking may be heard on the plains of Boston he notes that England is making a public
mockery of the colonists, and the whole country will be aware of their failure if they refuse to
stand up for themselves. He again speaks to the men s pride when he notes They tell us, sir, that
we are weak; unable to cope with so formidable an adversary (Henry 2). He knows the men do not
want to appear as such to the people who trust them to lead, and in making this point he is urging
the men to find their inner voice and rise up to reclaim their power against the tyrannical English

Daniel O Connell s Speech Analysis
This text is a political speech that Daniel O`Connell, one of the fathers of the Irish Republic, gave
at the House of Commons in London in 1836. The aim of O Connell s speech was to get equal
justice for the Irish people as members of the British Crown, and in the same way that by that time
the Scottish, English and Welsh people already had. The majority of the Parliament s members
were protestant and reluctant to give Irish Catholics more rights than they already had.
As the time O`Connell spoke to the Parliament about the equal justice, he had already become a
member of this chamber several years ago and was successful in getting more reforms for the Irish
cause. Ireland had a parliament since the year 1297 but the British crown abolished ... Show more

He tries it using different verbs like ...will you, can you, refuse you... and trying to reach them in
their quality as well educated and wise men. He mentions the year 1825 in which the Irish people
also tried to get from the Treasury Bench emancipation and they did not get it. But he appeals
emotionally to them affirming that ...I am the living representative of those hopes... of reform.
O Connell s more emotional tone of the last paragraph means to show the Parliament his love for
his country Ireland and its unjust situation. He personifies his country by seeing himself as its
friend, servant, stave ... and also as the voice of its sentiments, but above all as the voice of all the
Irish people. Once again he repeats what he wants, justice: ... I ask you only for justice . ... .
He never leaves an amiable tone during the whole speech and does not care about the taunts as
Irishman and Papist that he can get from the members of the House. He ends but the speech very
firmly and once again with the aim to get equal justice, with the words ... I demand, I respectfully
insist: on equal justice for Ireland, on the same principle by it has been administrated to Scotland
and England. I will not take less. Refuse me that if you can

The Health And Human Services Commission
Texans are being short changed by the proposed Medicaid cuts. Legislature has told the Texas
Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) that they must cut $350 million from the
Medicaid funding over the next two years. In order to abide by the legislature s demands, the
HHSC has proposed cutting the reimbursement rates for pediatric physical and occupational
therapists on average by 10 to 25 percent. And pediatric speech therapists would face cuts of 16 to
27 percent. Many feel that these cuts to the therapypayments have little to no effect on the services
that children with disabilities receive. These individuals say that following the orders will assist in
reducing the therapy rates and will reduce the practice of excess therapy. On the opposing side, it
has been expressed that cutting therapy funds that the Stateof Texasprovides has the potential to
cause individuals within the pediatric population to lose crucial therapy services. The planned
cuts have the risk to jeopardize the potential of our nation s young. The cuts also make many
agency s that currently provide occupational, physical and speech therapy vulnerable to closures
and lay offs. The people that are promoting the cuts to the Medicaid funding for providers that
offer occupational, physical and speech therapy feel that the reductions are necessary to curve tale

Issue: Whether respondent s Fourth and Fourteenth Amendment Rights were violated when he was
subjected to a search of his person, albeit under probable cause, without a warrant and prior to a
formal arrest.
Argument: Reasoning:
1)Nothing is more clear than that the Fourth Amendment was meant to prevent wholesale
intrusions upon the personal security of our citizenry, whether these intrusions be termed arrests or
investigatory detentions. Davis v. Mississippi, 394 U.S. 721, 726 727.
2)...the search of the respondent s fingernails went beyond mere physical characteristics...constantly

3)The Court recognized in Chimel v. California, 395 U.S. 752, that the scope of a warrantless
search must be commensurate with the rationale that excepts the search from the warrant
requirement. Chimel authorizes a search of incident to arrest for (1) weapons or (2) incriminating

under arrest and the area into which an arrestee might reach. 395 U.S., at 763.

Maria Montessori and Environment
Concentration is the key that opens up the child s latent treasures within him. As the scattered
elements if his personality comes together, order begins to take the place of disorder, and the work
of self construction, which had been interrupted, is now taken up again, as nature has intended all
along. E.M Standing, Maria Montessori: her life and work, pg 174
Learning, by itself, cannot happen without concentration. Whether we are learning to tie our shoes,
write our name, wash a car or solve complex algebraic equations, there is intense concentration
specific to the task at hand. Dr. Maria Montessori understood the power of concentration, and her
methodology is designed to nurture this power. Concentration in infants is a fragile ... Show more

The Inequality Of Income Inequality
Income Inequality Income inequality has been a major concern around the world, and it mainly
links to how economic metrics are distributed among individuals in a country. Economists
generally categorise these metrics in wealth, income and consumption. Wilkinson and Picket
(2009) showed in their studies that inequality has drawbacks that lead to social problems. This is
because income inequality and wealth concentration can hinder or delay long term growth. In
2011, International Monetary Fund economists showed that less income inequality increased the
duration of countries economic growth spells more than free trade, low government corruption,
foreign investment or low foreign debt (Berg and Ostry, 2011). This essay will be structured as
follow: 1 Theoretical Analysis: showing reasons that cause income inequality. 2 Empirical
evidence. 3 Possible policies to solve the inequality problems. 4 Conclusion. 1. Theoretical
Analysis An important factor in the creation of inequality is variation in individuals access to
education (Becker, et. Al, 2007). According to Bosworth et. Al, (1999) education in a field that
requires or demand a high number of workers, creates high wages for those with advance
education. As a result, those who are unable to afford good quality education or choose not to
participate in schools or colleges, generally receive much lower wages and thus it lowers aggregate
savings and investment. In particular, the increase in family income and wealth

As you know by now, I am a firm believer in body weight exercises, or what I like to call REAL
exercises.
What does this mean?
Well, based on my experience, I find that too many people tend to take the easy way out when it
comes to the exercise they do to try and lose their unwanted body fat.
A perfect example is that mystery machine that seems to be so popular, called the Elliptical
Trainer. Body weight exercises can beat this type of exercise hands down in many ways. For
example, it s been proven that the movement that is replicated by one of these elliptical trainers is
unique unto itself, and doesn t mirror any natural movement that the human body performs on a
regular basis. In other words, doing a regular workout on one of these machines is like practicing
your golf swing for hours upon hours and then going out and playing a game of soccer, hoping that
those practice sessions will help your game!
Plus, let s face it, once you get on the machine and get it moving, you re pretty much just going

Summary Of Bridget Quinn sBroad Strokes
In the reading, Broad Strokes by Bridget Quinn, she emphasizes on the great artists who have
made art history. Each one of the six artists had lived an artistic life. The Artist, Bourgeois, was a
French American who was born In Paris on Christmas day of 1911 and was named after her
father (Louis Bourgeois). Most of her childhood she spent with her mother to help attend to her
health. By the age of ten, she began to draw missing parts of tapestries, and also became an
expert in drawing feet and legs. Bourgeois decided to paint a portrait of a penis in 1968. She
called it the Fillette which meant little girl. Her instructor Fernand Leger had told her you are
not a painter. You are a sculptor (pg 129). So she had decided to give up painting and try
sculpting. Her first sculptures were made out of balsa wood that were tall and abstract, that she
would call her personages . Mendieta and Bourgeois had several things in common. They both
were sculptors and they both lost someone that was dear to their heart. One mother died of a
tumor, and the other lost her mother. Mendieta was married to a sculptor named Carl Andre. She
then decided to make sculptures in the landscape, because she no longer had a motherland that she
could turn to. She decided to join with Earth, it helped her feel a closer connection to her womb.
Mendieta made portraits of volcanoes, which implied sex, creation, and vaginal womblike. She also

One story that stuck out to me was the tale of Vivek Randive and his daughter s junior high
basketball team. Randive understood that the team s greatest weakness was lack of experience.
In understanding this weakness, Randive decided to introduce a full court press into their
preparation. He did this because he figured you didn t need to have experience in basketball to
play tough, suffocating defense. In most cases, teams would only use the full court press in the
last moments of the game. Randive unconventionally used this press throughout the entire
duration of the game instead of just the last moments like most previous teams did. The teams
who played them were puzzled as to why they were overmatched by such a team with lack of

they implemented a temp late that most teams and coaches were not prepared for. They used their

Stephen Curry s Influence On Basketball
His absurd athleticism, his preposterous play, and his stunning shooting have lead to a revolution
in his sport. 6 3 , 200 pound Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry, 28, has thoroughly changed
the sport of basketball over the course of his professional basketball career in three major ways.
First, his mastery of the three point shot has proven that the three pointer is on the rise as it pertains
to basketballshots. Second, his play has shown how people of average builds can be dominate in
the sport of basketball. Third, his success has proven that professional basketball is operated
differently than the days when monsters like Wilt Chamberlain and Larry Bird once controlled
the area underneath the basket; basketball is now played from behind a curved arc on the
hardwood: a boundary and a new opportunity for basketball players all over the globe: the three
point line, and Stephen Curry is the reason, or at least part of the reason, that young players are
transforming the game of basketball right before our eyes. Steph Curry has chosen to take a
different path than most basketball players. He began his career just like any other, perfecting all
aspects of his game. However, unlike most players, he chose to perfect the lowest percentage shot:
the three pointer. The math doesn t make sense when it comes to Stephen... Show more content on

He has been one of the driving forces behind the three point revolution . He has paved the way
for young players, and he has transformed the way basketball is played. Basketball used to be for
tall people, who dominated the game by simply being larger than everyone else. Basketball was
unexciting for some, due to the lack of enthusiasm and skill involved in a layup by a tall post
player. None of that is true anymore, thanks to one player: Stephen Curry, a butterfly with a jump
shot who is reshaping people s understanding of the game (Cacciola

Slender Man Argumentative Essay
Introduction Slender Man became known to the internet in 2009 but has been around since the
very late 1900s. This terrifying character is a very tall and slender figure that does not have a
face but had tentacles as arms; many that is. Legend has it that when people used to talk about or
come across Slender Man, they were never to be found. He is known to be extremely treacherous
and targets many people until he gets what he wants. This figure is hard to find but sometimes
radios, cameras, and such can locate him by the way they respond. He is often shown in
photographs even though know one could visually find him in person. It is quite hard to determine
if something is real or made up; especially in this situation. Sometimes you don t... Show more

like the idea of taking medication for this problem because she wants to still remain in contact
with her so called friends including Slender Man . Izadi, Elhae. Slender Man Stabbing: 13 year
old Wisconsin Girls Will Be Tried as Adults. Washington Post. The Washington Post, 10 Aug.
2015. Web. 18 Apr. 2016 IV. Your position (1 2 paragraphs) Based off of my research and
reasoning, I strongly believe Slender Man is all one big made up character. People tend to get
caught up in stories or hear things from other people and instantly believe it is real. Obviously
this fictional figure has brought trouble upon a lot of people and has messed with others heads
but it is mind over matter. By choosing to believe in a character as spine chilling as this one, it
ought to surface problems and freak people out. Slender Man is a made up man who was created
by a guy named Eric Knudsen for internet memes and is far from being real; it is all photoshop.

How Glaciers Can Alter The Shape Of A Valley
1. Explain how glaciers can alter the shape of a valley in terms of how the valley looks before and
after the effects of the glacier.
Many locations around the world in places where its snows throughout the year temperature stays
cold and frosty. This will cause snow not to melt but sometimes creates a firn. When the snow gets
suppressed deeper in the snowpack it can turn in to a glacier ice. Glacier is massive, long lasting,
moving mass of ice compacted snow and ice (Thompson, 2007). These gigantic moving mass can
only be made on land where the quantity of snow is more abundant than the snow that had
previously melted in the summer. Glaciers are influenced by geologic forces, temperature changes,
and snowfall (RioLearn, 2016). There are two types of glaciers the first type is an alpine glacier

For example the Colorado Plateau which covers a large area of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico,
and Utah. This region consist of sediments that have mounted up to form what are now
sedimentary rocks. Deeply formed rocks were uplifted, eroded, and exposed for eons. By 600
million years ago North America had been beveled off to a remarkably smooth surface. It is on
this crystalline rock surface that the younger, more familiar layered rocks of the Colorado
Plateau were deposited (Geologic, 2014). Death Valley is part of a percentage of the Great Basin,
desert streams to some extent erode the surrounding mountains and deposited. When faulting does
not end it makes the valley deeper but at the same moment streams can fill them with sediment.
Another process is when tectonic forces create mountains. Prevailing winds, warm moist air rises,
rising air generates low pressure, which leads to precipitation and dry air descends, creating high
pressure zone creates a rain shadow desert. (Thompson, 2007). Death Valley is one of the areas
where a person can find a rain shadow

Showered With Imperfection
Most people thought of her of a woman who will murder anyone on sight. To them, it was
dangerous for her to even look at you. But they don t know anything about her.
On the northern island, Mokusei, was a ship. Or simply a submarine. A yellow one.
Like with her other guests, she tend to obliterate their fragile life sources, but this thing, she spared
them. A odd thing. A foreign feeling to her. She had always murdered others that invade the island
.
It wasn t because she didn t feel like it. That would disgrace her. The only reason why she didn t
destroyed them, or even attack them was because they were peaceful.
It was a law in the Raters.
Never attack, until you are 100% sure that they are worth killing. She was merciless, but an
honorable woman who never disobeyed the laws, or her superiors, even if they were annoying or
angered her. Although unleashing wrath could assist with winning, staying calm was key.
There they were, a suspicious, snowy white polar bear that she has never seen in her life, two man
in an orange suit, and the one in the front who seemed like the leader, which he was.
Trafalgar Law, better known as Surgeon of Death. He had his infamous, calm smile stamped on
his face. With perfectly tanned skin that never seems to lighten or darken, and what seems like
black bags under his eyes, as if he stayed up, studying. He had a white hat with brown dots sitting,

  • 2. South Dakota State Penitentiary At The University Of Sioux... March 29, 1998 was just another typical day for headline news in Sioux Falls. The Argus Leader was filled with your everyday politics, sports, entertainment, weather, and life news. Eight inmates serving life sentence in the South Dakota State Penitentiary met to discuss better living conditions for all prisoners (Steen). On a more positive note, the annual Sioux Empire water festival was held at the University of Sioux Falls. Around 2,200 fourth graders, from surrounding communities, gather to learn more about the abundance of their natural resources, and how to preserve them. Thirty booths were set up at the site displaying how to make snow, how to snorkel, and how to make bubbles the size of humans (Olson). As far as youth sports, nothing was more popular than the tri state basketball tournament held every year in Sioux Falls. The event attracted over 2,900 athletes as well 289 teams ( Tri State Crowns 30 Champions 5C ). While these events happened in our area more headline news caught the eye of South Dakotacitizens. Senator Tom Daschle proposed a bill that had the potential to lead to the development of more wetlands in South Dakota. The bill offered tax credits to farmers who preserved wetlands not enrolled in the Conservation reserve program or wetland reserve program (Olson). With the Winter of 1997 1998 being so short schools, banks, city crews, and churches were able to catch up on their budgets. Schools didn t have to call off any days, city crews ... • 3. Nymph s Spinster Sylvia Plath s Spinster was effective in presenting its view that love is unrealistic, however, Sir Walter Raleigh s The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd was more direct. Sylvia Plath s sixains and uneven lines contradicted the speaker s view that love is disorderly. The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd followed the Iambic pentameter that complimented the speaker s argument that of why loveis incredulous between an immortal and a mortal. Through tone, symbolism, imagery, and worldview Sir Walter Raleighmanages to present the Nymph s attitude toward love in a artistic and effective way. Plath s tone in Spinster is cynical. The poem consist of an angry rant against love, which is presented by Spring (Plant 22). To the speaker love isn t worthwhile... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The shepherd presents the nymph with flowers, shoes, and beds of roses to persuade her, but they fail to meet the nymph s conditions, All these in me no means can move (Raleigh 19). The gifts can t move her because with time the shepherd s gifts would, Soon break, soon wither (Raleigh 16). The gifts are no use to the nymph as an immortal being. The symbolism in Spinster is similar to Raleigh s because just immortality and mortality can t coexist, neither can spring or winter. The speaker in Spinster can be tempted by spring which is a symbol of love because, Only idiots/Reel giddy in bedlam spring (Plath 22). The speaker doesn t appreciate bird songs or other the other beauties of spring and refers to a bird s song as Irregular babel (Plath 5). The speaker prefers winter (isolation) because everything is in its order and there is discipline that helps the speaker feel in control (Plath 13,14,17). Imagery in the Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd helps reinforce the speaker s view that love is unrealistic. The imager of flowers do fade portrays how the gifts that the shepherd offers the nymph only last for a short period of time. The gifts are a symbol of the shepherd s love, therefore the shepherd s love will also fade. The promise of love is unrealistic because the shepherd believes that love materialistic, which makes the shepherd s love unrealistic because as a young man, the shepherd himself ... Sewing machines, for instance, have been significantly modified. Machines now have a mind of their own as they can individually function off of the press of a button. This technological advancement will play a role in how a teacher, who was once taught on a basic machine, instructs. Digital technology s role in FCS can be clearly depicted through any course of study. As digital technology continues to evolve, so will the Family and Consumer Sciences courses and the methods of teaching/ learning. FCS also engages in the role ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay about Commentary on the Novel Peace like a River by... Negative Peace? Can something as positive as peace, sadly, turn negative? Throughout the book Peace like a River by Leif Enger, a negative mood, surprisingly, is established. When the story itself does maintain a positive influence, it s almost as if the negativity takes a higher dominance. In this novel, narrated by the middle child, Reuben, who has severe asthma, the reader is introduced to the very unique Land family. Jeremiah, the father and main provider of this family has three children, two boys and a girl; Reuben and Davy are both older than their sister Swede. However, Helen, the wife of Jeremiah and the mother of the three kids, left the family when Jeremiah turned his career path around to become a school janitor. The Land ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Land family enters turmoil when Jeremiah is fired from his job and struggles from pneumonia. After some time, Christmas comes around and Reuben spends the money he worked very hard for on groceries for the family. Mr. Decuellar, Davy s lawyer later brings the family an Airstream trailer from an old friend, Tin Lurvy. Previously, it was revealed that Jeremiah had received a letter from August about Davy s arrival. Jeremiah later recovers from his sickness, packs up the trailer, and sets off with the family in the trailer; leaving the now dreary town of Roofing behind. Finally, the family arrives in North Dakota and receives news on Davy s wellbeing, but also finds out that he is still on the run. All in all, in the book Peace like a River, a negative mood is established whether it be directly from the first chapter, when trouble enters the Land household, or through times of economic suffering. First, negativity enters early within the first few pages during the dramatic birth of Reuben Land. When Reuben was born, his dad, Jeremiah wasn t even in the room. He only arrived later when God was told to have made him run to the delivery room. Sadly, Reuben s lungs were, at first, defective and it was starting to look as if he wasn t going to make it. The doctor, Dr. Nokes had delivered the baby and had practically given up on poor Reuben s life. It was unavoidable, he was saying; nothing could be done; perhaps it was for the best, (2). • 7. The Ballet Of The Italian Renaissance Essay Ballet originated in the Italian Renaissance courts of the 15th century and later developed into a concert dance form in France and Russia. Barre is French for bar, and a barre has been used in ballet training as a support to help with balance while practicing traditional ballet technique. Modern barre techniques can be traced back to Lotte Berk who, like Joseph Pilates, fled Germany because of the Nazis. (Lotte Berk fled to the UK in 1938 because she was Jewish, while Pilates fled to New York City supposedly because the Nazis wanted to recruit him to train the uber German body). Lotte Berk developed a fitness regime in the UK that incorporated barre and other dance related and core strengthening exercises. Her technique was popular in the sixties and seventies in New York city and other cities around the world. Since then other individuals and companies have developed barre programs that use a ballet barre and incorporate different fitness concepts. Now there are many fitness franchises in the US that incorporate the ballet barre. How is Ellie Herman s Brooklyn Barre different from other Barre Methods? While many of the current barre methods do exercises that may make your legs and tummy look good, they ultimately can damage the knee joints and lumbar spine. Neutral Pelvis v. The landscape paintings represent more than the beauty of nature: it can trigger a memory, tell a story, document a moment. Thru Cole s painting of 1828, where he illustrates the story of Adam and Eve expulsion from the Paradise land, I remember the moment when I returned to Venezuela after spending one year abroad. The Expulsion from the Garden of Eden is based on the biblical metaphor of Adam and Eve; who had the opportunity to live in a paradise land, with the exception that they wouldn t consume a fruit from a specific tree. This was known as the forbidden fruit and if they were to eat it, their time in that world would be over and they would be sent to a different world where hard work has required to obtain what you desired. It might be a strange comparison: a biblical proverb and a trip back home, still, leaving a country that had its problems, but has the right conditions to live in and returning to a country where life had no value, people had no food and the life circumstances got worse day after day, can be a parallel situation to the change of a paradise land to a world where people suffered the consequences of their sins.... The work was first performed in Meiningen, Germany in October 1885 and was an instant success because of its masterful composition and unique style. Brahms s music and his fourth symphony are often viewed as a bridge between the music of the baroque and romantic era. Although Brahms is considered to be a romantic composer, his musicis unique from others because you can hear both the style of older era composers and features of romantic style in the texture of his works. This combination of baroque and romantic style in his music helps create more balance in the music, which gives it a blend that captured audiences and still entrances them today. Brahms was also inspired by study of Beethoven s symphonies for their orchestral color and harmonic structure; Brahms incorporates these features he enjoyed into his writing. The fourth movement of Brahms symphony No. 4 is titled Allegro energico e passianato and is known for its use of the Baroque style of Chaconne and other features that are found in the Romantic style as well. Verification Of Motion Lab Verification of Newton s 2nd Law of Motion Introduction The objective of this lab was to test Newton s 2nd law of motion, which states that the acceleration of an object is proportional to the sum of forces acting on it and inversely proportional to its mass. This was done by connecting a cart to a hook with a string and using a smart pulley to measure the acceleration of varying masses on the hook as it falls down. System mass remains constant. A free body diagram and applying Newton s 2nd Law yields the following relationship: Where mass 1 is the mass of the cart and the weights it contains, while mass 2 is the hook and the weights it holds. Sometimes remakes are incredible and introduce a generation to great films of the past, however, sometimes they aim too high and miss the mark completely. Scarface 1932 and Scarface 1983 is a great example of the latter. Scarface 1932 was the first of its kind in many respects while Scarface1983 fell short. While at the core of both of these films they are the same, there are a few small plot discrepancies, but the message of the rise and fall of a man is identical. Visually these films are nothing alike. Beyond the obvious use of color in the 1983 film, the lighting, spacing, and camera work are all different. Scarface1932 was revolutionary in its use of low key lighting while Scarface 1983 followed typical lighting conventions. The use of symbolism in Scarface 1932 was an added layer of complexity to the film that Scarface 1983 did not have. One thing both films did face quite extensively was censorship. Each film had to be heavily altered in some way in order for the public to view them. While neither film was truly in the production code era each film felt the effects regardless. On its own Scarface 1983 is not a bad film, but when compared to Scarface 1932 it pales in comparison. When one looks into why remakes occur so frequently, the answer that is found is nostalgia. Scx expression was restricted to the anterior and posterior borders while MyoD expression was present in the center of the myotome with no overlap of the two markers. From the beginning of the play it is obvious that our characters are vastly different levels of importance. The men gain their importance from the type of people they are. The women, on the other hand are defined by the men that they have married. The critic Beauvoir mentions in chapter five of The Second Sex that Marriage is the reference by which the single woman is defined (Beauvoir, 502). In society a woman only hold value based on the man that she has married. In Trifles all the men are addressed by their birth given first or last names. However all the women within the play are addressed by their last name given to them by marrying their husbands. Beauvoir goes onto say that marriage was supposed to be a free choice between both spouses and that the desire of marriage should be reciprocal. However, it has developed into a woman s responsibility to marry, take her husband s last name, stay at home and be a housewife (Beauvoir, 502). This concept is portrayed when Mrs. Hale describes Minnie before she married Mr. Wright: I heard she used to wear pretty clothes and be lively, when she was Minnie Foster (Glaspell, 984). Although the process has been seen to have a great effect, in reducing the amount of disease caught from drinking water (such as typhoid and cholera), it s been a heated debate for years. The first case of water being disinfected on a mass scale, was done by a man named John L. Leal. Leal was a physician by profession, but was thought by many to be a bit of a mad man at the time, because of his idea that chlorine had the properties to disinfect water for drinking. It was thought at the time, that if chlorine is poisonous when in a gaseous state, then what s to say that it s not poisonous when it s added to water (creating calcium hydrochloride), which it was (reference 1).Leal spent years of his life observing the effects were when very small amounts of chloride of lime was added to bacteria filled water. During the year of 1908, soon after Leal was given a job at the Jersey City Water Supply, and with the help of his friend George Warren Fuller (an engineer). The Inequality Of Income Inequality Income Inequality Income inequality has been a major concern around the world, and it mainly links to how economic metrics are distributed among individuals in a country. Economists generally categorise these metrics in wealth, income and consumption. Wilkinson and Picket (2009) showed in their studies that inequality has drawbacks that lead to social problems. This is because income inequality and wealth concentration can hinder or delay long term growth. In 2011, International Monetary Fund economists showed that less income inequality increased the duration of countries economic growth spells more than free trade, low government corruption, foreign investment or low foreign debt (Berg and Ostry, 2011).
