Allegory
At Preston high school, it was like any other day, kids being bullied and drugs being used. This
kind of stuff went on everyday inside of Preston High school, but this school was all they had in
the town of Rapid City and the people got used to it. It was a more southern town, located in
Alabama. Many words can describe what goes on there; hatred, abuse, and slacking. But the
school is not all bad, as they had good people there, but the kind of people that were bullied.
There was a girl named Jenna that was always a bully, because she was the popular girl, with the
thought of being better than everyone else, especially with her amazing beauty and physique.

No friends, no family, and no one to be there with her. Now Carlos is the popular one and Jenna
is the person no one cares about. Knowing about Carlos, Jenna is really regretting being mean to
Carlos and she wishes she could take back what she said, but too late now. I told you. You should
have listened to me in the first place said the fairy. You were right all along. I m an adult and
have nothing to say for myself. But look at Carlos, he has everything; money, loved ones, and a
nice life! Ugh why was I so stupid? Now I am the loser and Carlos is the great one. Treat others

Artist Statement: This Allegory was about a popular who bullies a kid but then when they grow
up, the popular girl is becomes a no life and the kid becomes a powerful CEO. The moral is Karma.
Karma is also one of my fantasies, as it is not real, but people still believe in it. Also, a talking
fairy is another fantasy, as fairies are not real either. Lastly, the kid not being affected by the
bullying of the popular girl, as this is unreal and any normal person will be affected by hurtful
things or feel some type of way. As for my archetypes, the popular girl is the witch, as she is
dangerous. The eternal child is the bullied kid, because he does not realize what is going on. The
magician(S) are the cool kids that the popular girl hangs out

Collateral Duty Inspector Essay
In the aviation side of the Navy there is a job known as Collateral Duty Inspector. The Collateral
Duty Inspector is considered a subject matter expert on the aircraft they work on. In order to
become a Collateral Duty Inspector a sailor must go through extensive training and meet certain
requirements. As a sailor looking to make the Navya career until retirement, becoming a Collateral
Duty Inspector was a major goal of mine.
I was on deployment with my second command VAW 126 on board the aircraft carrier Harry S.
Truman when I started the process. As a prospective Collateral Duty Inspector, I was working
nights from 1800 to 0600. I would spend most of the night with my supervisor Palar learning
what to do and what to look for. He would have me follow him as he inspected other sailors work
and point out to me what he inspected and what needed to be corrected by the worker if any. ...

The first test was on corrosion control and theory. Corrosion control and theory consist of being
able to identify the different types of corrosion and how they affect and form on the aircraft. The
second test was on the Naval aviation maintenance program. The Naval aviation maintenance
program is the basic guidelines on how a Navy squadron will operate. The test requires you to
know who is responsible for certain jobs throughout the command and what your responsibilities
are as a Collateral Duty Inspector. This test is the most difficult due to the large amount of
information in the program. The third, and final test is the rating specific test. This test is made up
of different scenarios a sailor in a specific rate might come across during their time as an inspector.
Also including in the test is the ability to find the correct answer to certain problems and procedures

Brave New World And Brave New World
The 1920 s and the 1930 s brought about many changes in the world such as financial fluctuations
and advancements in technology. The novel Brave New World , by Aldous
Huxley, and the short story There Will Come Soft Rains , by Ray Bradbury, gives an excellent
presentation of futuristic elements and how world climate at the time affected how the author
perceived the future. Both of these stories paint a picture of a world where technology has
advanced to the point that it has negatively affected mankind. Using new historicism, this paper will
explore the different ideas and thoughts of the authors and how they got influenced by the historical
events happening in their time as well as the developing technologies. This paper will also explore
how the two stories, even though written on different decades, are very similar in nature through
their views, themes, and the ultimate effect on society.
Huxley writes the novel Brave New Worldin 1931 around the time technology rapidly replaced
workers jobs and made unemployment rates increase. This caused many people to take any job
they could get such as factory work. In the novel, Aldous Huxley describes a future world where
every single person is working in a factory and doesn t have a say rather or not they want to work
there. The novel shows Huxley sees the future as alienated and ruled by a God who controls every
aspect of people s lives. During this time Huxley writes his novel, the

Juvenile Crime Is One Of The Country s Not Joking Issues...
Juvenile crime is one of the country s not joking issues. Worry about it is shared through elected,
state, and neighborhood government authorities and through people in general. In the United
States, age cut off points of juveniles change, the most extreme age being set at 14 years in a few
states and as high as 21 years in others. The 16 to 20 year age gather, considered grown up in
many spots, has one of the most unusual occurrences of actual crime. A large degree of grown up
criminals has a foundation of early misconduct. Burglary is the most well known offense through
children s; more genuine property violations and assault are most as often as possible submitted in
later youth. The reasons for such conduct, similar to those of crime, as a rule, are found in a
complex of mental, social, and monetary components. Clinical reviews have revealed passionate
instabilities, more often than not emerging from confused family circumstances, in many
delinquents (John T. Whitehead, 2015).
For this particular discussion, we will focus on three contributing factors that are linked to Juvenile
Delinquency. The three we will be discussing are, family dynamics, mental health and social class.
Social class
The social imbalance is an issue that causes hurt in a developing society. This issue offers different
qualities, however, causes stress and turmoil in the meantime. Societal position can adjust the way
we see things and the open doors that are displayed to particular people. Being

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Jv and Ws
1. Introduction The aim of this essay is to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of setting up
a wholly owned subsidiary (WOS) instead of a joint venture (JV). There are numerous studies
and research papers done on which entry mode is best in different situations, but there is no
simple task deciding which is the best unless one can see into the future. JV and WOS are two
completely different entry modes with their distinct down and upsides. Entering a new market
gives both great opportunities and involves high risk. There is much at stake but if one choose
wrong entry mode it can cost the company tremendously, that is why one should not take this
decision based on a few factors. The globalisation has given companies a bigger... Show more

If both companies in the partnership feel it is a win win situation the chance for success is
bigger, and if they fail the cost will not be as devastating, the amount of risk is at a minimum
compared to a WOS (Morschet, Schramm Klein, Zentes, 2010). 2.4 The disadvantages of JVs
Being partners is not always easy, and it takes time and a lot of effort to build up a strong
relationship between two companies. There are many uncertainties around partnerships, the partner
can have a hidden agenda and have an opportunistic behavior (Aswathappa, 2010). The goal or
objective for the partnership can be unclear and makes it difficult to know when they have
succeeded. If there is an unbalance in the level of investment, effort or expertise the other partner
can feel they are not getting what they expected. Many get caught up in endless conflicts, and often
these issues are based on cultural differences. Most of these problems are management issues, but
sometimes the company s management can agree on every point but the employers do not get
enough information (businesslink.gov.uk). Without thorough research and effective communication
the employers can start to working against the integration. 3. Discussion Setting up a WOS or JV
can be a difficult choice but by doing a solid market research and an intern research of their own
company the choice should be easier. If a company want to enter a foreign market

Ivan Erinsovich Fittest Quotes
Can a man who s warm understand one who s freezing?
Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
Sitting amidst thousands of other sentences in this novel, this particular formation of words stand
out above the rest. It is not a long sentence, nor does it look like much to one who may have just
skimmed over it, however this quote speaks volumes not only for this book, but also for humanity
as a whole. One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich stirs up many emotions; controversy over
authoritative oppression, living under a Stalinist approach in government, as well as survival of the
fittest. These themes are extremely relevant to the quote at the beginning of this passage, as well as
to the groundbreaking novel. In the beginning of the story, the prisoners are ... Show more content

natural daylight or darkness with the high beams of the surveillance lights. By taking away
something so simple as knowing what time of day it is, these prisoners are relinquished of any and
all daily privileges a normal human being would have all thanks to the mercilessness of Stalin and
his cohorts.
Another well suited sub theme is survival of the fittest. Although some of these men do befriend
each other and Shukov himself seems to have a handful of acquaintances among his gang, in such
an environment there is a sense of every man for himself. I believe that is why small things like
Shukov s pal Fetyukov saving a breakfast bowl for him helps him appreciate his luck at the very
end of the day.
Survival ranks highest in importance to the zeks. Among this importance is also attitude; one s

considered good manners to conform and obey. This is idea is drawn through Ivan s friend

Descriptive Essay About Bodybuilding
Often times when people think of bodybuilding they get the impression it s all about how much
weight you can lift, what s your max bench, or how much can you squat. To tell the truth, that s
what I thought it was all about, but sure enough I was wrong. Bodybuilding is all about being
concerned on how your body looks. Having symmetry, muscularity and conditioning that is if you
plan on competing professionally. It s all about engaging the muscleyour working out, getting a
nice squeeze, and having a slow controlled movement. I used to think it was all about working
out, but diet plays a huge key. I decided to spend a day with my brother who goes to the gym on a
regular basis and has competed several of times, and knows a lot more about bodybuildingthan I
do. I am awaken by the sunlight coming from my window as if someone was pointing a flash
light on my eyelids. I grab my phone to check what time it is. My phone reads eight o clock. I
can t recall the last time I woke up this early, especially on a weekend. I struggle to get out of my
nice, cold, and comfortable bed, but I eventually do. As I walk downstairs to the kitchen, I hear
the noise of a knife hitting the cutting board. Breakfast, the most important meal of the day, my
brother says as he cuts the meat. He then gets a measuring cup and fills it with oatmeal, adds a

Professionalism, Integrity, Honesty, And Professionalism
Introduction/Purpose/Objective Professionalism in nursing provides an important framework for
the continual development and advancement in the nursing profession. As healthcare providers,
nurses are held to high standards of practice for providing safe, effective, evidence based care to
clients. As the healthcare system continuously advances, the level of professionalism becomes
crucially imperative to nurses and other professionals. Throughout the years nursing has
continuously been regarded as one of the most trusted professions. As a result of this significant
rating, it s important for nurses to maintain integrity and honesty while upholding the core values of
their respective institutions to provide safe and effective patient centered care (Olshansky, 2011, p.
193). As healthcare professionals, nurses must strive to incorporate humanistic qualities such as
integrity, honesty and compassion into their respective field of practice. When nurses exhibit a
sense of openness and trust into their patient care, clients can have a sense of assurance that they
re in safe hands, gaining the client s trust paves the way for the client to trust their nurse as an
advocate who has their best interest. Nurses act as advocates for their clients, and therefore, have a
responsibility to voice their concerns when it comes to providing quality care to their clients.
Patient advocacy stems from the fact that they may need extra support in order to secure their

The clinic has been very successful in managing patients IBD symptoms in a timely manner while
preventing unnecessary emergency department visits, and alleviating anxiety and depression
associated with the unpredictable flares, ineffective pharmacological management and potential

the studied population with IBD had anxiety and/or depression. Poor symptom management,
ineffective coping mechanisms, lack of support, and negate self imaging, are the main risk factors
associated with the anxiety in the population with IBD (Bannaga Selinger, 2015). Melissa
concurred with the above statement and indicated that the interprofessional collaborative treatment
approach at the clinic offers short wait times, multidimensional support and long term follow up for
the patients. She also stated that her role includes all categories of core competencies of an NP

Stephen Dedalus Themes
Stephen Dedalus is a creature obsessed. He hunts and prowls to find one true meaning to the world
through artistic beauty, to find truth through an aesthetic. He finds a way to balance intellectuality
and art with his set of philosophical principals called an aesthetic. Stephen Dedalus, the central
character, acts as an alternate reflection of the author in this semi autobiographical fiction A Portrait
of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce. Joyce primarily uses the early development of Stephen
and the impact it has on his life to demonstrate his themes and ideas. He uses this, especially to
demonstrate how Stephen arrives at his principals. Stephen has many interactions with the Catholic
Church he grew up with and the religion. He struggles... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stephen thinks that the rhyme is not poetry, even though it has the form of a poem (Joyce, 8). The
difference between Stephen and his friend is that one thing does not become art only because it
takes the form of art. What Stephen wrote might be considered more artful because it had a
statement: What is after the Universe? (13). His mind is grasping at the nature of the world
through beauty. Stephen demonstrates this further, by writing an essay comparing Irish political
leader Parnell to Julius Caesar as a figure who is betrayed. Little Stephen, like Joyce makes the
psycho causal connection...[He] already understands the now in relation to the past (Watchel 14
15). His propensity to connect the present to the past as is the case with his essay about Parnell
demonstrates what Watchel is saying: Stephen s hunger for the aesthetic is not only displayed in his
thoughts on beauty, but also in his ability to appreciate artistic connections in life. Stephen certainly
has always had natural creativity, but what Joyce does with Stephens expression of beauty, explains

President Barack Obama is a name known around the world thanks to his political triumphs and
historical presidency. He has an extensive educational background and has a strong political
resume to match. In the book Reading Obama by James Kloppenberg, Kloppenberg not only
applauded President Obama s educational journey as a means to developing the necessary skills
to be a leader, but also viewed Obama as an intellectual and philosophical president which he
believes are unique characteristics only present in a minority of American historians. Kloppenberg

Pragmatism deals with a straight forward way of thinking and is centered on solving problems. As
stated in lecture eight, pragmatists promoted a philosophy of relativism not universalism (Professor
Garcia Lecture 8). This means that, in terms of pragmatism, one does what they consider is
essential instead of following a natural law based upon philosophical principles and morality. In any
matter, the truth as to what the right thing to do is relative to the situation and there is not a
universally correct answer for all eternity. What is considered right changes over the years and law
is meant to be changed as economic and political situations vary. The political philosophy of
pragmatism helps Kloppenberg support his argument that Obama is more than just intelligent, that
he is an intellectual. Kloppenberg states that, Obama is also very much an intellectual along with
being a politician (Kloppenberg). He stresses that unlike other Presidents who were extremely
intelligent, President Obama is able to interrogate his own convictions to place them in a broader
cultural and historical context by imaginatively scrutinizing them from a position centuries in the
future without abandoning them (Kloppenberg). Other Presidents, such as Richard Nixon, were
considered extremely intelligent in Kloppenberg s opinion; however, he believed that was a result
of opportunism and the goal of career advancement. Furthermore,

This investigation will thoroughly evaluate the political, economic and social effects on the natives
of South Africa after its union in 1910 . To what extent was the Union of South Africa on 31 May
1910 an effort to combat Black political awareness? The most valuable sources that are going to

It reveals that the NP s legislation at some point began attacking and oppressing all races apart
from the Afrikaners themselves, but more importantly it was to assure themselves that figures like
Nelson Mandela could not rise in power. For actions such as leaving the country without valid

penalties for these crimes could be as much as ten years in prison. Therefore it effectively
demonstrates how black political activists in South Africa felt by use of specific examples. On the
contrary though because it emphasizes on Nelson Mandela s view these weren t necessarily the
views of the people as a whole, and they don t support whether the NP truly meant for these things

Shahrazad as a Feminist
She, written by H Rider Haggard is a novel about two men Holly and his adoptive son, Leo who
set out to search for a mysterious queen named Ayesha who had killed her lover, Kallikrates. After
finding the queen, both of them hopelessly fall in love with her and remain in her control. Her
legendary beauty implies that no mancan look up upon her and keep his own self control. On the
other hand, Arabian Nights is about a collection of Arabic short stories told by a womannamed
Shahrazad to her lustful King. The King used to marry virgin women one every night and kill
them the day after because he was once cheated by his late wife. However, this series of killing
ends when he weds Shahrazad. Her generous nature to save other women in the kingdom is what
motivates her to pursue the marriage. The major themes from the two novels are heroism, courage
and ever present sense of danger. Ayesha and Shahrazad are two different women in different
situations. Both of these characters have shown the themes of female authority and feminine
behaviour in their own ways. Feminism can simply be explained as women being equals to men
when it comes to intelligence, competence, bravery and moral responsibility (Decter 45). Ayesha, a
terrifying and dominant figure, uses her beauty to seduce and have power over men, while
Shahrazad uses her intelligence by telling tales to teach the King lessons. In fact, most of female

Similarities Between Hidden Figures And Bend It Like Beckham
The movies Hidden Figures, and Bend it like Beckham, directed by Theodore Melfi and Gurinder
Chadha respectively, both explore the dangers that are inherent in a marginalised society. Each text
demonstrates that hope for change is needed in society as it can build the momentum for an
individual to strive. Through these texts, it is observed that people have no conscience about
harming others until they learn the truth about their circumstances. This is depicted by the way in
which Jess coach Joe behaves after learning about her cultural expectations in Bend it like
Beckham. Similarly, this is shown in Hidden Figures by Mr. Harrison. Both directors emphasise
that the abuse of power leads to corruption and this can be seen through the segregation between the
black and white people in Hidden Figures and the way in which cultural values overrule the lives of
the Bhamra s in Bend it like Beckham. Both characters highlight the importance of creating
opportunities rather than seeking it, this is shown when Mary Jackson goes to court for educational
rights in Hidden Figures and in Bend it like Beckham when Jess stands up to her father who appears
to be patriotic about his culture. The resolutions to both texts justify that determination comes from
within and that though many factors can outweigh a person s ability to triumph, consistency can
lead to rewarding results. Through the use of cinematic techniques we are able to further increase
our understanding of perseverance

Perfume is mixture of fragrant aroma compounds or essential oils, the first evidence of the use of

Departures Movie Essay
In the movie Departures, we are introduced to Daigo, a young man who plays cello in an
orchestra. One day, after a performance, the owner of the orchestra unexpectedly appears and
tearily informs the members that the orchestra has run out of money and will disband. Daigo is
visibly shocked by this and returns home to his wife. This change has a huge impact on Daigo, we

Daigo s job and his dream of playing in an orchestra, but as we meet more characters, we are
introduced to their losses as well. Daigo s wife (Mika) struggles with their change of city and

Daigo appears to have adjusted to the loss of his father, even if it is through anger towards him.
As we see him talk about his father, he expresses extreme contempt and coldness toward the loss,
which could lead one to believe he has accepted the reality of his loss, but perhaps he has only
pretended that the loss never happened. When we finally find Daigo preparing his father s body
for burial, we see him express extreme sorrow the loss. This leads me to conclude that Daigom
may have never really accepted the reality of the loss, instead only pretending that nothing was lost

Metamodern Sounds In Country Music
A Narrative on Americana Music Research
I chose to do the topic of Americana music for my research paper for a number of reasons. For
the last several years, I ve found myself listening to more and more of this folksy, country like, old
sounding music without really knowing what it was. Then, a year or so ago, one of my favorite
artists of this style a guy named Sturgill Simpson won a grammy. The title of his album is
Metamodern Sounds in Country Music , which perhaps should have been a slight giveaway to the
Grammy people as far as what category to nominate his album in. It was not nominated for best
country album, however. Instead, it was nominated for best Americanaalbum. I have a good friend
who is also a fan of Sturgill s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s one of the few sources I ve found that is written specifically about Americana music. I ve
glanced through it, but have yet to do an in depth read yet. Hopefully it will be as informative as I
d like it to be.
Another source that will help with a certain aspect of understanding Americana music is the
journal article Nashville and Americana Music by Garrett Harper and Chris Cotton. I think one of
the most important aspects of Americana music is that it truly is American music, and I don t want
my research to be pigeon holed into one particular style from one location. There is no denying,
however, Nashville s influence on just about all popular music styles, especially those that are
related to country or Southern music. I m sure this source will be useful.
Another resource I ve been looking at is a dissertation by Johan Henrik Knutsen titled
Americana. Nostalgia through Tradition and Self Expression in Music . I m probably most
wary of this source, because I ve never cited from a dissertation before. I guess I really shouldn t be
worried about it, though. Obviously it had to be approved by a board of academics or it wouldn t
have been published. I m hoping I can at least glean some new insight from

Persuasive Essay On Animal Dissection
Most people have dissected an animal at some point in their education, be it a frog, pig, cat, or
another animal. Every year in the United States, roughly ten million animals are killed and used for
dissection in schools ( Animals Used in Education 1).The surplus of students dissecting animals in
class has led to this substantial number. Dissectionis said to increase student understanding of
biology and an interest in careers in science (Edulab 1), which is why countless schools have their
students dissect animals. However, others advocate for methods that don t involve cruelty to
animals. Why use a learning technique if other methods are less expensive, and some tactics equally
or more effective regarding student learning? Essentially, an abundance of schools incorporate
animal dissection as an educational tool, but they seldom think of how negatively the lives of
countless animals are impacted. People don t fathom the cruelty that happens to animals before
they land on the dissection table, and that is something that needs to be changed. The dissection of
animals for educationhas been a traditionally used teaching tactic for decades, and it is cruel and
should no longer be used. To start, the suppliers of the animals to be dissected have been caught
mistreating their animals. PETA s investigations into biological supply companies, which sell
animal bodies and parts, have uncovered acts of cruelty to animals, including the drowning of
rabbits and the embalming of cats

Sephor A Retail Chain Of Perfume And Cosmetics Stores Essay
1.About Sephora
Sephora is a retail chain of perfume and cosmetics stores founded in 1969 by Dominique
Mandonnaud. It first started as a small perfumery in Limoges, France, called Shop 8 and was
revolutionary at that time due to its concept of assisted self service . The store had an open sell
setting where customers could try the products before they bought them and where the organisation
of the products was by type, not by brand as in every other store.
In 1993, Mandonnaud bought 38 retail cosmetics stores from the UK s Boots PLC chain and
merged them with the 12 Shop 8 stores that the company already had at that time. The stores were
then rebranded to what is known today as Sephora.
Although Sephora s initial strategy was to expand within France and its surroundings such as
Monaco and Luxembourg, after the company was acquired by Louis Vuitton MoГ«t Hennessy
(LVMH) in 1997, it started pursuing a global international strategy. With every store around the
world, Sephora maintains similar products, overall atmosphere and services and every strategic
decision is made by the higher management at the headquarters.
Its first international store was opened in 1998 in New York City and the company began to expand
in the European market, starting with Italy. However, not every country was hospitable to Sephora
s expansion such as the United Kingdom, Spain and Japan, where the company struggled.
Nowadays, the Sephora brand is available in 31 countries having over 2000 stores

The Oven Of Akhnai Analysis
R. Nathan met Elijah and asked him: What did the Holy Blessed One do in that hour? He
laughed, he replied, saying, My sons have defeated Me, My sons have defeated Me. The talmudic
story of the Oven of Akhnai is often characterized as the instance of rabbinic discontent with a
divine intervention. Its dramatic style and aggadic nature differentiate it from other texts, drawing
it to the forefront of scholarly analysis; however, we must question, why is this the case? Rabbinic
discourse, especially that in the Talmud, rarely arrives at a single, definite consensus, making the
existence of only a single story where the rabbis challenge and master God quite perplexing. By
accepting this notion of the Oven of Akhnai story as unique,... Show more content on

A file oriented system utilizes data in a regular OS file based format where a database system
uses a database engine that organizes data in a database in a table format utilizing rows for each

9. Explain the difference between a logical record and a physical record.
The canned answer is a logical record is a set of field values that describes a single person, place,
thing, or event. Logical records as seen by an application is a group of related fields regardless of
how or where the data is stored physically. For example, across multiple hard drives or multiple
tables, databases etc.
A physical record is the smallest data unit that can be handled by the operating system and has to
do with the physical bytes that exist on a hard drive or other storage location. A physical record
can contain many logical records.
10. How would a specific date, such as May 1, 2004, be represented as an absolute date? According
to the book, on page 288, Microsoft uses Jan 1, 1900 as it s base date. If you have excel you can
use a spreadsheet to calculate the date or just use the example provided.
If May 13, 2003 is 37754, to get May 1, 2004 add 353 days and it should be 38107, but because
2004 was a leap year, it would be 38108.
If you use Excel, enter the date May 1, 2004 into a cell, then format as a number and it will also
give you 38108 as the answer. If you are writing the program, you can use any date as a base date,
such as Jan 1, 2005. This date would be 1, every additional day would add 1 to the count, at the end
of the year, Dec 31, 2005, the number would be 365 since it s not a leap year.

Child Independence Research Paper
Independence
As a child, one does not make decisions for oneself. Parents shape the lives of their children into the
person they want their child to become. They put their children into the sports, activities, and
hobbies that they think will take their children down a successful path. Then the time comes when
their child needs to start making decisions on their own. Although the children are not independent
adults yet, this time is a huge part of their transformation from sheltered childhood into independent
adulthood.
Growing up, my parents had me in every sport and activity possible. Soccer, dance, basketball,

because I see many people in my surrounds doing it. The categorical and numerical questions I
came up with in my study are, What subject would you cheat on, if you were in need for a good
grade? If you were given 10 problems, how many problems would you cheat on? In my hypothesis,
I theorized that math would be the subject most cheated on because many students on campus have

The technology is also capable of working with volatile liquids such as ethanol and acetone which
have low viscosity and surface tension. The ADE technology can effectively transfer a range of
solvents with varying viscosity effectively with low coefficient of variation (CV). The CV is as
low as 8% when the plate has unknown water and/or DMSO compositions. Since transfer by ADE
technology does not involve any physical contact, it minimizes the risk of contamination and/or

Analysis Of Timothy Beatley, And Heather Boyer Essay
This book is written by Peter Newman, while Timothy Beatley, and heather Boyer were the
coauthors. Together they examined the idea of a resilient city in 2009. The book defined
resilient as lasting, making it through a crisis, something that requires inner strength and
resolve, and having strong physical infrastructure and built environment. The book later states
that the main roadblock in the way of resilience is fear, and throughout the book they give many
examples where fear lead to a cities downfall. They also suggest that because of our resources
depleting rapidly we should really be acting now in order to make a change in order to save what
is left of them. The main objective of this book is to educate us on how we can make our cities
more resilient to this ever growing threat. The book starts by giving us(the readers) a vision for a
resilient city, but what the authors were really trying to convey is that they are trying to reduce oil
dependency, which will save this resource. They say reduction of oil dependency is a necessity,
they state that it will reduce impacts on the environment, and will reduce impact on human health
which will lead to reduced impacts on human health and will lead to greater economic gain
because they will depend on other sources of income rather than just oil. This will make the cities
more economically stable because they can get their money elsewhere if the cities would stop
depending on oil to bring in the cash flow.

African elephant ivory trading has been banned for twenty five years yet there is still a large

against the ivory trade; the UN Office on Drugs and Crime and other international focused
bureaus and agencies have taken this issue on, and those agencies are using his research to put

is professionally smuggled, there is no evidence to point to where the ivory comes from. Wasser
knew that they needed to find out where this ivory was being poached, so he created contacts that

A Core Element Of The Film Western
A core element of the film western is the struggle between the civilizing forces of society and the
resistance of the wilderness. This has been used as a common thematic element in the narrative
structure of Westerns, and can be seen in the films portrayal of society s expansion to the west. In
these films, this expansion, which is a part of the movement to tame the Wild West, is a conflict
that is played out as a battle of oppositions on the American frontier. In director John Fords My
Darling Clementine, this fundamental aspect of the genre comes across in the main character, Wyatt
Earps, conflict with the Clanton family, whom the audience ultimately finds out are the ones who
shot and killed the youngest Earp brother. While Wyatt Earp s status as the town marshal
symbolizes the civility and order of society, the Clantons a violent, uncivilized family in which the
father uses primitive methods of discipline, such as whipping, against his own four sons represent
the wilderness of the untamed West. The symbolic importance of the characters in My Darling
Clementine is also connected to Ford s use of setting and locale. Given the manner in which Wyatt
Earp enters the town and sets about bringing justice to it, his character can be seen as the
embodiment of the process of civilization of the West. From a cinematographic standpoint, the shots
of locations within the town differ from those of the wilderness beyond the town site. The film
makes use of its visual style to

Why Is Zheng He Be Celebrated
The voyages of Zheng He are vastly understated, the difficult trials and tributes making for a
grand exploration little known today. Zheng He was a Eunuch, or a castrated man employed by
the government, born as Ma He. He was enslaved at the age of ten in the Ming Dynasty. He rose
through the ranks quickly, and Emperor Yongle decided to recognize him. He received a new noble
name, Zheng He, and was sent on the first of seven voyages in 1405. Zheng He s voyages should
be celebrated due to all that was accomplished during them. Zheng He was a kind, strong, leader

Examples Of Heroism In The Outsiders
Who do you think is a hero or has shown heroism through their life. In The Outsiders, Ponyboy s
interests and behavior contrasts his gang. For example, he hates to fight unless he has to, unlike
his friends who fight for the fun of it or because everyone is doing it. Though he is the oddball of
the group he still displayed great heroism throughout the book. In S.E. Hinton s The Outsiders,
Ponyboy displays many heroic traits and is a risk taker. He shows great courage, his personality,
and his actions are respected by many people.
To start off, Ponyboy is a hero because of the courage he displays through the book. I jerked loose
and ran on. All I could think was: We started it. We started it. We started it!
I wasn t about to go through that flaming door, so I slammed a big rock through a window and
pulled myself in. It was a wonder I didn t cut myself to death, now that I think about it. He shows
courage because he barrels into the church that was a raging inferno to save innocent children.
He also shows courage at the end of the book, You re the guy that killed Bob Sheldon, one of
them said. And he was a friend of ours. We don t like nobody killing our friends, especially
greasers. Big deal. I busted the end of my bottle and held on to the neck and tossed away my
cigarette. You get back into your car or you ll get split. They looked kind of surprised, and one
of them backed up. I mean it. I hopped off the car. I ve had about all I can take from you guys. I
started toward them, holding the bottle the way Tim Shepard holds a switch out and away from
myself, in a loose but firm hold. I guess they knew I meant business, because they got into their
car and drove off. He fearlessly opposes the Socials, clearly showing that he has great courage and
should not be underestimated. Also, another time that Ponyboy proves to be a courageous person is
when he fights at the rumble even though he feels a bit sick. He put his gang first and fought for
them in the rumble.
Another factor that proves that Ponyboy is a hero is his personality. In the Merriam Webster

Workplace Reflection Essay
There are racial things happening all around us every day but many times people can block it
out or don t notice it because it seems normal. This week I decided to watch and see what racial
or gender type things happen at my place of work. I work at a restaurant in downtown Green
Bay, it a bit more expensive than most places. I m going to cover the way customers are served
and how they are treated and how things are a little more advanced in the kitchen staff. First of
all, I am a host at the restaurant so I watch closely to make sure all tables are getting service, when
a table is first sat the tableis greeted by the server in a happy tone Usually if the customers reply
back in a happy way and friendly way that table will get more attention from the server throughout
their time at the restaurant. When the customer tends to treat the server more as a servant and not
as a real person the servers tendto not check up on the table as much because the table doesn t
seem friendly. Another thing I noticed is that when a table sits and they are dressed nicely and
servers my pay more attention to them compared to a table that is in sweatpants. Servers pay
more attention to the tables that are dressed nicely because they expect them to tip better, I have
seen this first hand with two tables sat at about the same time and the family dressed nicer tip
decently and the table in sweats tipped 74 cents on a $35 bill. Now I know that I don t know the
financial backgrounds of these two families but this is a more expensive restaurant so customers
tend to spend more than going to a Red Robins. Another factor in how you are served at a
restaurant is younger couples and elderly couples are less likely to tip well. Younger couples
tend to be seen as not having significant funds to pay and tip well. Elderly couples are seen as
small tippers because they are used to saving and a lower tipping percentage. For a long time the
tipping percentage was 15% percent but over the last few years, it has been raised to about 18%
to 20%. Next, I want to talk about how usually when you think of a restaurants kitchen staff you
may think low income men maybe even Mexican. At the restaurant, I work at we have a wide

Anna Karenina Essay
In Anna Karenina, Leo Tolstoy presents marriage in a realistic sense, marriage is not an easy
institution; couples must work through the rough patches in order for it to be strong; he also
presents passion as a force that can have a positive influence, but simultaneously presents passion
as a factor that can have a corrupting power on a person s life. These two couples, Levin and Kitty
and Vronsky and Anna, are compared throughout the course of the novel. Levin and Kitty differ
from Anna and Vronsky because they do not communicate in the same ways. Kitty and Levin try to

They are completely open with each other, no matter how difficult the subject is to talk about.
Anna and Vronsky are completely different with respect to their communication. They are
described as having a dark and powerful spiritual bond (Merezhlevosky, pg.772). Because their
relationship is based solely on love, it is harder for them to communicate effectively. Rather than
take the time to solve a problem, Anna and Vronsky blame each other for the problems. Anna is
described as getting more and more heated and thereby betraying the cause of her irritation
(pg.326). Anna simply gets angry and as a result cannot have a conversation with Vronsky. This is
quite different from the Anna we are introduced to early on in the novel. She is portrayed as a
sweet, charming woman. This kind of attitude is not at all what is expected of Anna. Vronsky is
does not handle situations well either. At one point in an argument, Vronsky leaves. He is described
as having announced his departure (pg.584). Unlike Kitty and Levin, Anna and Vronsky try to
avoid each other when an issue comes up.
Because of Anna s position as a fallen woman, she and Vronsky lead rather different social lives
than do Kitty and Levin. As Anna and Vronsky s relationship develops and becomes public, their
interactions with society become dulled. At one point, Anna wishes to go to the theatre; however

Social Networking And Its Effect On The Internet
Research Question] Due to my interest in information technology and the quickly growing social
networking world on the internet, a combined topic would both be interesting for me to research,
but also a relevant investigation in today s world, with a connection to the beginning of the topic,
being MySpace (2003). One of the biggest debates about social networking is privacy, so I
decided to delve into the topic myself and created a research question of, To what extent does social
networking, beginning with MySpace(2003), affect the privacy of a United States citizen?
[Scope of Investigation] Throughout my investigation, privacy in social networking was examined
through three filters: government surveillance, privacy between users, and social networking s

New Deal Dbq
Franklin Roosevelt promised to get the United States out of the Great Depression during the
election; saying this is the main reason on why he became President on March 4, 1933. He had
many words to live up to, for his words gave many Americans hope. The First Second New Deal
along with The National Recovery Act were all attempts of Franklin getting America out of the
Great Depressionlike he said he would in his election days.
To begin, the First New Deal was otherwise called the Hundred Days that went from March 9th
June 16 of the year 1933. During the days Congress passed a series of laws to provide relief to
victims of the Great Depression. There was little to none opposite to the many law Congress had
passed. One of Franklin s first goal was to end the banking crisis. The banking crisis was a wave of
bank failures that frightened the public on February 1933. Franklin closed the bank and opened it

The Importance Of Weather In Florida
When many people look at Florida, they tend to think of the hotness of the water as they entered
the beaches; as well as the clubs that are right across the street from these beaches. They don t tend
to remember the bipolar weather that comes into play as they cross that Georgia to Florida line.
Florida although bipolar in its weatherpatterns, has become a very popular tourist destination and
retirement spot for millions of Americans. But, little do they know, Florida is not what it is
cracked up to be. Although Florida s weather is very hot; but we do have very much rain. In fact,

The Negative Effects Of Video Games On Child Development
The media is a platform that gives instant access all over the world and an unlimited amount of
resources. It also provides immense opportunities for learning and skill development. However, the
media also causes negative impacts on learning, physical health, and development. As the media
grows and develops everyday, it constantly draws the public s attentionand concerns in divided
opinions.
Bavelier, Eichenbaum, and Green (2014) explained the positive aspects of video games on
individuals skills and abilities. Video games were found to improve one s mental capacities that
decline with age and promote work skills. Not only did video game players acquire skills, they
improved perceptual and cognitive processing such as working memory and abstract reasoning
because games enforced players to constantly keep track of many items simultaneously in various
levels of perception and cognition. Action video games especially enhanced the players vision in
contrast sensitivity, crowded acuity, visual selective attention, and multiple object tracking tasks.
Additionally, action gamers showed improved attention in executive functions such as sustained
attention block, impulsivity block, dual tasking, and task switching. To take a step further, video
games can be applied to real life for medical purposes to help correct vision for those with
amblyopia, train visual attention for dyslexic children, and educate children about illnesses.

Culturally Responsive Literature and the Role of Technology in Improved Literacy Instruction
Moira Moynihan
Lipscomb University
In the quest to make education a more equitable, empowering force for all scholars, irrespective of
racial and demographic background, no fight garners as much urgency as that to close the literacy
gap. Whereas science, social studies, or math may or may not enter the daily discourse of a
wealthy family as it raises its child, reading will unquestionably monopolize a statistically
significant portion of child rearing time. Betty Hart and Todd R Risley outline the devastating
scale of this schism in their work The Early Catastrophe: The 30 Million Word Gap by Age 3, which

Marx s 1858 Grundrisse divides value into two distinct categories: use and exchange. Use value
refers to the utilitarian value garnered from something, whereas exchange value places monetary
value onto certain objects within a fiat currency system assuming there is no inherent worth in
something. The biggest argument against culturally responsive teaching within literacy comes from
a perceived lack of exchange value. True a capitalistic, patriarchal, white supremacist society does
not place substantial, if any, market value onto texts missing from the constructed Western Canon.
If education seeks to truly empower students, teachers must equip students with skills and
knowledge that has market exchange value. However, I argue that because culturally responsive
texts are a more effective way to build reading capacity, the loss of market exchange value is
dwarfed by the augmented use value that comes from being a strong, analytical reader. I will also
conceded that viewing literature through a class based lens exclusively diminishes the holistic
construction of literary worth, and I would argue for non economic benefits stemming from
reading, some of which exist simply as expanded thought processes. However, so long as a
dominant lens through which readers can be ability grouped is socio economic status, the economic
ramifications of reading cannot be

Below is a broken down overview of areas that need to be addressed:
Research: Target needs to perform a detailed research on its e/m commerce platforms and those of
the competition. Since Target is the follower, without spending too much in R D it can take
advantage of what Amazon has proven to be working and internalize those practices that increase
number of visitors and transactions. Using focus group studies and split testing1 Target can
pinpoint aspects of the platforms that work well, and areas that need improvement. Therefore,
interface and content are the two areas of focus of the research.
1Split Testing: Experiments with two variables, one controlled and one varied; also known as A/B
testing.
Interface: The lay out of Target.com and the mobile extension of the website as well as Target s
mobile app and its coupon app Cartwheel (currently under beta testing) need to be intuitively
designed to allow for easy navigation, selecting and comparing products and making payments.
Above all, as an extension of Target s in store differentiation strategy, the company needs to
implement strong customer service features on all its digital platforms as well. This will include
friendly, well English speaking customer service reps available 24/7 customers can talk to about
questions or technical problems with little or no waiting time.

With the advent of modern technology, the way our culture consumes music has changes

Over the past decade, cloud streaming has made its way into consumer s lives. These cloud
services allow users to access music from a central database via a website. Users can access this
music for free. But only as long as they are connected to the internet. Consumers may also choose to
purchase a subscription to these sites which eliminates advertisements and allows unlimited
listening online or off. Cloud streaming services have made a large impact on the music industry. It
has made such a sizeable impact that Billboard has created a chart for streamed music.
Cloud streaming services provide access through subscriptions which are often paid. Meanwhile
piracy offers users free and unlimited access to all music without any limitations. Almost all
consumers of pirated music claim that the practice of piracy does not hurt the music industry at all.
The book Moser on Music Copyright (2006) argues that piracy does in fact hurt the music
industry by examining a study produces by the Recording Industry Association of America
(RIAA). The RIAA estimates that piracy costs the music industry $300,000,000 in the United
States alone. While the United States loss may seem large, the Global loss amounts to roughly
$5,000,000,000. In 2004 alone, roughly 34%, of all CD sales, were pirated copies (p. 83).
Consumers feel okay with justifying piracy because of the way the music industry appears to be

According to Southwest CEO Gary Kelly, ....if it would start charging for baggage, it will lose
more revenue than it will gain because that will result in losing customers . (Benzinga) Its
definitely true that by maintaining their brand value as affordable airlines which clearly identifies
them as distinct to their competitors. This low cost and bag fly free strategy are very effective in
terms of profit and customer satisfaction. Most passengers will able to travel by air often because of
price affordability. So far, Southwest Airlines is continuously improving and has been consistent
and successful in the economy. Even though Southwest Airlines have been through many economic
downturns, how can they remain stable in the economy? In my opinion, the key element of
Southwest Airlines success is the utilization of economic indicators, the leading, coincident and
lagging economic indexes which is valuable to help them understand the performance if the
company will be on peak or trough in the business cycle. Transportation Service Index and EIA
Crude Oil Prices are two specific indicators I chose because I believe when Southwest utilize these

Analysis Of Anita Desai s Fasting Feasting
In literature the image of women in fiction has undergone a change during the last four decades.
Women writers have considerably moved away from traditional portrayals of enduring self
sacrificing women, towards conflicts, female characters searching for identity, no longer
characterized simply in terms of their victimized status. One such prominent Indian author, whose
writing addresses issues focusing on the condition of women in India, is Anita Desai. Desai s novels
chiefly center around the representations of women and their struggles against patriarchal and
colonial oppression. Her novel Fasting Feasting (2000) is above all a work which delineates the
psychic entrapment of women in a oppressive environment. Though India attained independence
from colonial rule it failed to unburden women from the ideal visions of womanhood. Advancement
of learning and modernization have made little impact on the internal psyche and attitude of the
society towards women specially in context of India. This paper attempts to critically examine Anita
Desai s outlook and standpoint on the socio cultural issues of patriarchal oppression, ideological
conditioning, female freedom and empowerment with special reference to her novel Fasting
Feasting. The paper brings into focus the interaction of women s traumatic experiences, the
psychological plight of the female characters, and the state of their oppression in a male dominated
patriarchal framework. At the same time the paper also attempts to

If the wall were working than the Han would not have to bribe the Xiongnu to keep them away. The Han was losing money trying to bribe the Xiongnu because the wall was unsuccessful. The wall took years and years of time to build and this proves that those years were a waste. Although eh Han was bribing the Xiongnu, there was still a chance of a possible attack. This kind of stuff went on everyday inside of Preston High school, but this school was all they had in the town of Rapid City and the people got used to it. It was a more southern town, located in Alabama. Many words can describe what goes on there; hatred, abuse, and slacking. But the school is not all bad, as they had good people there, but the kind of people that were bullied. You should have listened to me in the first place said the fairy. You were right all along. I m an adult and have nothing to say for myself. But look at Carlos, he has everything; money, loved ones, and a nice life! Ugh why was I so stupid? Now I am the loser and Carlos is the great one. Artist Statement: This Allegory was about a popular who bullies a kid but then when they grow up, the popular girl is becomes a no life and the kid becomes a powerful CEO. The moral is Karma. Karma is also one of my fantasies, as it is not real, but people still believe in it. Also, a talking fairy is another fantasy, as fairies are not real either. Lastly, the kid not being affected by the bullying of the popular girl, as this is unreal and any normal person will be affected by hurtful things or feel some type of way. As for my archetypes, the popular girl is the witch, as she is dangerous. The eternal child is the bullied kid, because he does not realize what is going on. The Collateral Duty Inspector is considered a subject matter expert on the aircraft they work on. In order to become a Collateral Duty Inspector a sailor must go through extensive training and meet certain requirements. As a sailor looking to make the Navya career until retirement, becoming a Collateral Duty Inspector was a major goal of mine. I was on deployment with my second command VAW 126 on board the aircraft carrier Harry S. Truman when I started the process. As a prospective Collateral Duty Inspector, I was working nights from 1800 to 0600. I would spend most of the night with my supervisor Palar learning what to do and what to look for. He would have me follow him as he inspected other sailors work and point out to me what he inspected and what needed to be corrected by the worker if any. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. Brave New World And Brave New World The 1920 s and the 1930 s brought about many changes in the world such as financial fluctuations and advancements in technology. The novel Brave New World , by Aldous Huxley, and the short story There Will Come Soft Rains , by Ray Bradbury, gives an excellent presentation of futuristic elements and how world climate at the time affected how the author perceived the future. Both of these stories paint a picture of a world where technology has advanced to the point that it has negatively affected mankind. Using new historicism, this paper will explore the different ideas and thoughts of the authors and how they got influenced by the historical events happening in their time as well as the developing technologies. This paper will also explore how the two stories, even though written on different decades, are very similar in nature through their views, themes, and the ultimate effect on society. Huxley writes the novel Brave New Worldin 1931 around the time technology rapidly replaced workers jobs and made unemployment rates increase. This caused many people to take any job they could get such as factory work. In the novel, Aldous Huxley describes a future world where every single person is working in a factory and doesn t have a say rather or not they want to work there. The novel shows Huxley sees the future as alienated and ruled by a God who controls every aspect of people s lives. During this time Huxley writes his novel, the 2 changes going on around him influenced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Worry about it is shared through elected, state, and neighborhood government authorities and through people in general. In the United States, age cut off points of juveniles change, the most extreme age being set at 14 years in a few states and as high as 21 years in others. The 16 to 20 year age gather, considered grown up in many spots, has one of the most unusual occurrences of actual crime. A large degree of grown up criminals has a foundation of early misconduct. Burglary is the most well known offense through children s; more genuine property violations and assault are most as often as possible submitted in later youth. The reasons for such conduct, similar to those of crime, as a rule, are found in a complex of mental, social, and monetary components. Clinical reviews have revealed passionate instabilities, more often than not emerging from confused family circumstances, in many delinquents (John T. Whitehead, 2015). For this particular discussion, we will focus on three contributing factors that are linked to Juvenile Delinquency. The three we will be discussing are, family dynamics, mental health and social class. Social class The social imbalance is an issue that causes hurt in a developing society. This issue offers different qualities, however, causes stress and turmoil in the meantime. • 7. The Advantages and Disadvantages of Jv and Ws 1. Introduction The aim of this essay is to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of setting up a wholly owned subsidiary (WOS) instead of a joint venture (JV). There are numerous studies and research papers done on which entry mode is best in different situations, but there is no simple task deciding which is the best unless one can see into the future. JV and WOS are two completely different entry modes with their distinct down and upsides. Entering a new market gives both great opportunities and involves high risk. There is much at stake but if one choose wrong entry mode it can cost the company tremendously, that is why one should not take this decision based on a few factors. The globalisation has given companies a bigger... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If both companies in the partnership feel it is a win win situation the chance for success is bigger, and if they fail the cost will not be as devastating, the amount of risk is at a minimum compared to a WOS (Morschet, Schramm Klein, Zentes, 2010). 2.4 The disadvantages of JVs Being partners is not always easy, and it takes time and a lot of effort to build up a strong relationship between two companies. There are many uncertainties around partnerships, the partner can have a hidden agenda and have an opportunistic behavior (Aswathappa, 2010). The goal or objective for the partnership can be unclear and makes it difficult to know when they have succeeded. If there is an unbalance in the level of investment, effort or expertise the other partner can feel they are not getting what they expected. Many get caught up in endless conflicts, and often these issues are based on cultural differences. Most of these problems are management issues, but sometimes the company s management can agree on every point but the employers do not get enough information (businesslink.gov.uk). Without thorough research and effective communication the employers can start to working against the integration. 3. It is not a long sentence, nor does it look like much to one who may have just skimmed over it, however this quote speaks volumes not only for this book, but also for humanity as a whole. One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich stirs up many emotions; controversy over authoritative oppression, living under a Stalinist approach in government, as well as survival of the fittest. Having symmetry, muscularity and conditioning that is if you plan on competing professionally. It s all about engaging the muscleyour working out, getting a nice squeeze, and having a slow controlled movement. I used to think it was all about working out, but diet plays a huge key. I can t recall the last time I woke up this early, especially on a weekend. I struggle to get out of my nice, cold, and comfortable bed, but I eventually do. As I walk downstairs to the kitchen, I hear the noise of a knife hitting the cutting board. Breakfast, the most important meal of the day, my brother says as he cuts the meat. • 10. Professionalism, Integrity, Honesty, And Professionalism Introduction/Purpose/Objective Professionalism in nursing provides an important framework for the continual development and advancement in the nursing profession. As healthcare providers, nurses are held to high standards of practice for providing safe, effective, evidence based care to clients. As the healthcare system continuously advances, the level of professionalism becomes crucially imperative to nurses and other professionals. Throughout the years nursing has continuously been regarded as one of the most trusted professions. As a result of this significant rating, it s important for nurses to maintain integrity and honesty while upholding the core values of their respective institutions to provide safe and effective patient centered care (Olshansky, 2011, p. 193). As healthcare professionals, nurses must strive to incorporate humanistic qualities such as integrity, honesty and compassion into their respective field of practice. When nurses exhibit a sense of openness and trust into their patient care, clients can have a sense of assurance that they re in safe hands, gaining the client s trust paves the way for the client to trust their nurse as an advocate who has their best interest. Melissa Harriott, BScN, RN, MN, NP has been interviewed to describe her advance practice role, philosophy of health, core competencies, and the nature of her practice as an ANP at the University of Alberta Hospital. The clinic has been very successful in managing patients IBD symptoms in a timely manner while preventing unnecessary emergency department visits, and alleviating anxiety and depression associated with the unpredictable flares, ineffective pharmacological management and potential development of negative self image. Kurina, Goldacre and Gill (2001) stated that over 60 percent of the studied population with IBD had anxiety and/or depression. Poor symptom management, ineffective coping mechanisms, lack of support, and negate self imaging, are the main risk factors associated with the anxiety in the population with IBD (Bannaga Selinger, 2015). Melissa concurred with the above statement and indicated that the interprofessional collaborative treatment approach at the clinic offers short wait times, multidimensional support and long term follow up for the patients. She also stated that her role includes all categories of core competencies of an NP (Canadian Nurses Association [CNA], 2010; Wilson, 2016). The NP assesses patients at the clinic, based on the laboratory work and biopsies taken during a colonoscopy, she confirms whether the patient has IBD and specifies the type. He finds a way to balance intellectuality and art with his set of philosophical principals called an aesthetic. Stephen Dedalus, the central character, acts as an alternate reflection of the author in this semi autobiographical fiction A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce. Joyce primarily uses the early development of Stephen and the impact it has on his life to demonstrate his themes and ideas. He uses this, especially to demonstrate how Stephen arrives at his principals. Stephen has many interactions with the Catholic Church he grew up with and the religion. He struggles... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stephen thinks that the rhyme is not poetry, even though it has the form of a poem (Joyce, 8). The difference between Stephen and his friend is that one thing does not become art only because it takes the form of art. What Stephen wrote might be considered more artful because it had a statement: What is after the Universe? (13). His mind is grasping at the nature of the world through beauty. Stephen demonstrates this further, by writing an essay comparing Irish political leader Parnell to Julius Caesar as a figure who is betrayed. Little Stephen, like Joyce makes the psycho causal connection...[He] already understands the now in relation to the past (Watchel 14 15). His propensity to connect the present to the past as is the case with his essay about Parnell demonstrates what Watchel is saying: Stephen s hunger for the aesthetic is not only displayed in his thoughts on beauty, but also in his ability to appreciate artistic connections in life. He has an extensive educational background and has a strong political resume to match. In the book Reading Obama by James Kloppenberg, Kloppenberg not only applauded President Obama s educational journey as a means to developing the necessary skills to be a leader, but also viewed Obama as an intellectual and philosophical president which he believes are unique characteristics only present in a minority of American historians. Kloppenberg uses Obama s own publications, such as his published books as well as issues of the Harvard Law Review, as an analytical tool to develop what he believes is Obama s political philosophy.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pragmatism deals with a straight forward way of thinking and is centered on solving problems. As stated in lecture eight, pragmatists promoted a philosophy of relativism not universalism (Professor Garcia Lecture 8). This means that, in terms of pragmatism, one does what they consider is essential instead of following a natural law based upon philosophical principles and morality. In any matter, the truth as to what the right thing to do is relative to the situation and there is not a universally correct answer for all eternity. What is considered right changes over the years and law is meant to be changed as economic and political situations vary. The political philosophy of pragmatism helps Kloppenberg support his argument that Obama is more than just intelligent, that he is an intellectual. Kloppenberg states that, Obama is also very much an intellectual along with being a politician (Kloppenberg). He stresses that unlike other Presidents who were extremely intelligent, President Obama is able to interrogate his own convictions to place them in a broader cultural and historical context by imaginatively scrutinizing them from a position centuries in the future without abandoning them (Kloppenberg). Other Presidents, such as Richard Nixon, were considered extremely intelligent in Kloppenberg s opinion; however, he believed that was a result of opportunism and the goal of career advancement. I had no responses for a few seconds, and then the boy sitting across from me volunteered himself. I hesitated, this was the kid who always got in trouble and had to sit in an assigned seat. Nelson Mandela says In apartheid South Africa, the penalties for these crimes could be as much as ten years in prison. Shahrazad as a Feminist She, written by H Rider Haggard is a novel about two men Holly and his adoptive son, Leo who set out to search for a mysterious queen named Ayesha who had killed her lover, Kallikrates. After finding the queen, both of them hopelessly fall in love with her and remain in her control. Her legendary beauty implies that no mancan look up upon her and keep his own self control. On the other hand, Arabian Nights is about a collection of Arabic short stories told by a womannamed Shahrazad to her lustful King. The King used to marry virgin women one every night and kill them the day after because he was once cheated by his late wife. However, this series of killing ends when he weds Shahrazad. Her generous nature to save other women in the kingdom is what motivates her to pursue the marriage. The major themes from the two novels are heroism, courage and ever present sense of danger. Ayesha and Shahrazad are two different women in different situations. Both of these characters have shown the themes of female authority and feminine behaviour in their own ways. Feminism can simply be explained as women being equals to men when it comes to intelligence, competence, bravery and moral responsibility (Decter 45). • 18. Similarities Between Hidden Figures And Bend It Like Beckham The movies Hidden Figures, and Bend it like Beckham, directed by Theodore Melfi and Gurinder Chadha respectively, both explore the dangers that are inherent in a marginalised society. Each text demonstrates that hope for change is needed in society as it can build the momentum for an individual to strive. Through these texts, it is observed that people have no conscience about harming others until they learn the truth about their circumstances. This is depicted by the way in which Jess coach Joe behaves after learning about her cultural expectations in Bend it like Beckham. Similarly, this is shown in Hidden Figures by Mr. Harrison. Both directors emphasise that the abuse of power leads to corruption and this can be seen through the segregation between the black and white people in Hidden Figures and the way in which cultural values overrule the lives of the Bhamra s in Bend it like Beckham. Both characters highlight the importance of creating opportunities rather than seeking it, this is shown when Mary Jackson goes to court for educational rights in Hidden Figures and in Bend it like Beckham when Jess stands up to her father who appears to be patriotic about his culture. The resolutions to both texts justify that determination comes from within and that though many factors can outweigh a person s ability to triumph, consistency can lead to rewarding results. • 22. Persuasive Essay On Animal Dissection Most people have dissected an animal at some point in their education, be it a frog, pig, cat, or another animal. Every year in the United States, roughly ten million animals are killed and used for dissection in schools ( Animals Used in Education 1).The surplus of students dissecting animals in class has led to this substantial number. Dissectionis said to increase student understanding of biology and an interest in careers in science (Edulab 1), which is why countless schools have their students dissect animals. However, others advocate for methods that don t involve cruelty to animals. Why use a learning technique if other methods are less expensive, and some tactics equally or more effective regarding student learning? Essentially, an abundance of schools incorporate animal dissection as an educational tool, but they seldom think of how negatively the lives of countless animals are impacted. People don t fathom the cruelty that happens to animals before they land on the dissection table, and that is something that needs to be changed. The dissection of animals for educationhas been a traditionally used teaching tactic for decades, and it is cruel and should no longer be used. To start, the suppliers of the animals to be dissected have been caught mistreating their animals. It first started as a small perfumery in Limoges, France, called Shop 8 and was revolutionary at that time due to its concept of assisted self service . The store had an open sell setting where customers could try the products before they bought them and where the organisation of the products was by type, not by brand as in every other store. In 1993, Mandonnaud bought 38 retail cosmetics stores from the UK s Boots PLC chain and merged them with the 12 Shop 8 stores that the company already had at that time. The stores were then rebranded to what is known today as Sephora. Although Sephora s initial strategy was to expand within France and its surroundings such as Monaco and Luxembourg, after the company was acquired by Louis Vuitton MoГ«t Hennessy (LVMH) in 1997, it started pursuing a global international strategy. With every store around the world, Sephora maintains similar products, overall atmosphere and services and every strategic decision is made by the higher management at the headquarters. Its first international store was opened in 1998 in New York City and the company began to expand in the European market, starting with Italy. However, not every country was hospitable to Sephora s expansion such as the United Kingdom, Spain and Japan, where the company struggled. Together they examined the idea of a resilient city in 2009. The book defined resilient as lasting, making it through a crisis, something that requires inner strength and resolve, and having strong physical infrastructure and built environment. The book later states that the main roadblock in the way of resilience is fear, and throughout the book they give many examples where fear lead to a cities downfall. They also suggest that because of our resources depleting rapidly we should really be acting now in order to make a change in order to save what is left of them. The main objective of this book is to educate us on how we can make our cities more resilient to this ever growing threat. The book starts by giving us(the readers) a vision for a resilient city, but what the authors were really trying to convey is that they are trying to reduce oil dependency, which will save this resource. They say reduction of oil dependency is a necessity, they state that it will reduce impacts on the environment, and will reduce impact on human health which will lead to reduced impacts on human health and will lead to greater economic gain because they will depend on other sources of income rather than just oil. This will make the cities more economically stable because they can get their money elsewhere if the cities would stop depending on oil to bring in the cash flow. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. A Core Element Of The Film Western A core element of the film western is the struggle between the civilizing forces of society and the resistance of the wilderness. This has been used as a common thematic element in the narrative structure of Westerns, and can be seen in the films portrayal of society s expansion to the west. In these films, this expansion, which is a part of the movement to tame the Wild West, is a conflict that is played out as a battle of oppositions on the American frontier. In director John Fords My Darling Clementine, this fundamental aspect of the genre comes across in the main character, Wyatt Earps, conflict with the Clanton family, whom the audience ultimately finds out are the ones who shot and killed the youngest Earp brother. While Wyatt Earp s status as the town marshal symbolizes the civility and order of society, the Clantons a violent, uncivilized family in which the father uses primitive methods of discipline, such as whipping, against his own four sons represent the wilderness of the untamed West. The symbolic importance of the characters in My Darling Clementine is also connected to Ford s use of setting and locale. Given the manner in which Wyatt Earp enters the town and sets about bringing justice to it, his character can be seen as the embodiment of the process of civilization of the West. From a cinematographic standpoint, the shots of locations within the town differ from those of the wilderness beyond the town site. The film makes use of its visual style to ... • 38. Workplace Reflection Essay There are racial things happening all around us every day but many times people can block it out or don t notice it because it seems normal. This week I decided to watch and see what racial or gender type things happen at my place of work. I work at a restaurant in downtown Green Bay, it a bit more expensive than most places. I m going to cover the way customers are served and how they are treated and how things are a little more advanced in the kitchen staff. First of all, I am a host at the restaurant so I watch closely to make sure all tables are getting service, when a table is first sat the tableis greeted by the server in a happy tone Usually if the customers reply back in a happy way and friendly way that table will get more attention from the server throughout their time at the restaurant. When the customer tends to treat the server more as a servant and not as a real person the servers tendto not check up on the table as much because the table doesn t seem friendly. Another thing I noticed is that when a table sits and they are dressed nicely and servers my pay more attention to them compared to a table that is in sweatpants. Servers pay more attention to the tables that are dressed nicely because they expect them to tip better, I have seen this first hand with two tables sat at about the same time and the family dressed nicer tip decently and the table in sweats tipped 74 cents on a $35 bill. Now I know that I don t know the financial backgrounds of these two families but this is a more expensive restaurant so customers tend to spend more than going to a Red Robins. Another factor in how you are served at a restaurant is younger couples and elderly couples are less likely to tip well. Younger couples tend to be seen as not having significant funds to pay and tip well. Elderly couples are seen as small tippers because they are used to saving and a lower tipping percentage. For a long time the tipping percentage was 15% percent but over the last few years, it has been raised to about 18% to 20%. Next, I want to talk about how usually when you think of a restaurants kitchen staff you may think low income men maybe even Mexican. Anna Karenina Essay In Anna Karenina, Leo Tolstoy presents marriage in a realistic sense, marriage is not an easy institution; couples must work through the rough patches in order for it to be strong; he also presents passion as a force that can have a positive influence, but simultaneously presents passion as a factor that can have a corrupting power on a person s life. These two couples, Levin and Kitty and Vronsky and Anna, are compared throughout the course of the novel. Levin and Kitty differ from Anna and Vronsky because they do not communicate in the same ways. Kitty and Levin try to resolve issues as they arise, so that they do not create a bigger issue. They are completely open with each other, no matter how difficult the subject is to talk about. Anna and Vronsky are completely different with respect to their communication. They are described as having a dark and powerful spiritual bond (Merezhlevosky, pg.772). Because their relationship is based solely on love, it is harder for them to communicate effectively. Rather than take the time to solve a problem, Anna and Vronsky blame each other for the problems. Anna is described as getting more and more heated and thereby betraying the cause of her irritation (pg.326). Anna simply gets angry and as a result cannot have a conversation with Vronsky. This is quite different from the Anna we are introduced to early on in the novel. She is portrayed as a sweet, charming woman. This kind of attitude is not at all what is expected of Anna. Vronsky is does not handle situations well either. At one point in an argument, Vronsky leaves. He is described as having announced his departure (pg.584). Unlike Kitty and Levin, Anna and Vronsky try to avoid each other when an issue comes up. Because of Anna s position as a fallen woman, she and Vronsky lead rather different social lives than do Kitty and Levin. As Anna and Vronsky s relationship develops and becomes public, their interactions with society become dulled. One of the biggest debates about social networking is privacy, so I decided to delve into the topic myself and created a research question of, To what extent does social networking, beginning with MySpace(2003), affect the privacy of a United States citizen? Whereas science, social studies, or math may or may not enter the daily discourse of a wealthy family as it raises its child, reading will unquestionably monopolize a statistically significant portion of child rearing time. Marx s 1858 Grundrisse divides value into two distinct categories: use and exchange. Use value refers to the utilitarian value garnered from something, whereas exchange value places monetary value onto certain objects within a fiat currency system assuming there is no inherent worth in something. The biggest argument against culturally responsive teaching within literacy comes from a perceived lack of exchange value. True a capitalistic, patriarchal, white supremacist society does not place substantial, if any, market value onto texts missing from the constructed Western Canon. If education seeks to truly empower students, teachers must equip students with skills and knowledge that has market exchange value. However, I argue that because culturally responsive texts are a more effective way to build reading capacity, the loss of market exchange value is dwarfed by the augmented use value that comes from being a strong, analytical reader. I will also conceded that viewing literature through a class based lens exclusively diminishes the holistic construction of literary worth, and I would argue for non economic benefits stemming from reading, some of which exist simply as expanded thought processes. However, so long as a dominant lens through which readers can be ability grouped is socio economic status, the economic ramifications of reading cannot be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 55. Analysis Of Anita Desai s Fasting Feasting In literature the image of women in fiction has undergone a change during the last four decades. Women writers have considerably moved away from traditional portrayals of enduring self sacrificing women, towards conflicts, female characters searching for identity, no longer characterized simply in terms of their victimized status. One such prominent Indian author, whose writing addresses issues focusing on the condition of women in India, is Anita Desai. Desai s novels chiefly center around the representations of women and their struggles against patriarchal and colonial oppression. Her novel Fasting Feasting (2000) is above all a work which delineates the psychic entrapment of women in a oppressive environment. Though India attained independence from colonial rule it failed to unburden women from the ideal visions of womanhood. Advancement of learning and modernization have made little impact on the internal psyche and attitude of the society towards women specially in context of India. This paper attempts to critically examine Anita Desai s outlook and standpoint on the socio cultural issues of patriarchal oppression, ideological conditioning, female freedom and empowerment with special reference to her novel Fasting Feasting.
