The Effects Of Reading On Reading For Pleasure
Forced/required/assigned reading has a significant effect on all students. Forced reading is reading
assigned by school teachers to students who will eventually be tested over the plot, characters,
themes and/or other details in the book. Many students don t realize that required reading is much
different than readingfor pleasure. Testing over assigned readingrequires a student to pay attention
to several small details that would otherwise be overlooked if they were reading on their own.
Although it is required reading, many students find ways around it by searching the internet for
Sparknotes, Cliff Notes, plot summaries, character lists, etc. to give them an overview of the bookto
excel on the tests they are given. Required reading can have an effect on a person s idea of reading
for pleasure for the rest of their life. So, how does assigned reading affect a student s view on
reading for pleasure both positively and negatively?
Although almost all students despise assigned reading, it can have significant positive outcomes.
There are so many other forms of entertainment that have become more popular in today s world,
such as video games, movies, athletic event and social media. With this in mind, forced reading
can be positive, because most students would never have the motivation to pick up a book,
magazine article, newspaper, etc. on their own time if they did not have assigned reading for
school. It exposes some of these students to reading that would otherwise

Essay on The Perfect Teacher and Educated Man
When we were posed with the question What does an Educated Person look like? I was at a loss.
But as I went through my notes I realized how many phenomenal philosophers have played a part
in developing the basis for education in this country. I realized also that I could not answer the
question stated above with a singularphilosopher s name. However, I do agree with definite points
of individual philosophers and have decided to create my own portrait of what an educated man (or
woman) would look like.
I start with the heart of Horace Mann because his heart was in the right place. He believed that
everyone should be enrolled in school. Mann thought that the common school experience was
something all students should be involved ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What student can learn to the best of their potential when they are not seen as a person but as a
future person?
Mary Wallstonecraft s elbows are the next ingredients. She believed that male and female
students should be educated together in order to literally learn about each other and respect each
other s differences. She preached that there should be a focus on the family and learning near
your home. Along with Wallstonecraft is Catherine Beecher. Beecher advocated for the rights of
women in the field of education. She enforced the idea of exercise and its health benefits,
especially for women, at a time when the idea was considered taboo. Beecher had a hand in the
advancement of female colleges and although she did not believe in equal education for men and
woman she did act as a catalyst for the beginnings of female education.
Soon the feet of Rousseau must be added to my educated person. Rousseau adhered to the idea that
students should be allowed to grow on their own and form their own identities. Also, he did not
believe in the physical punishment of students. He believed in the natural state of things and the
freedom of man, which is necessary to instill truly free learning in students.
Emerson s mind is next. Emerson pushed for fullness and awe in every possible avenue life offers
you. He accepted women into his intellectual circle and he accepted them as equals. He stated that

American Technological Advancements
The United States has utilized innovations and technological advancements to solidify its position
as a global superpower. One of the greatest accomplishments the United States can claim is to have
put a man on the moon in 1969. In describing the impact of the moon landing, historian Arthur M.
Schlesinger Jr. notes, The one thing for which this century will be remembered 500 years from
now was: This was the century when we began the exploration of space (Launius, 2006). In the 47
years since the moonlanding, no other nation has been able to land on the moon marking this as a
lasting legacy to American perseverance in the exploration of space. The completion of the
Panama Canal in 1914 also showcased American resolve and engineering superiority. Providing
maritime access between the Atlantic and the Pacific, the Canal stands today as one of seven

From the progression of the machine gun to the development of the atomic bomb and further still to
today and stealth aircraft technology, the United States has consistently pushed the envelope on
innovation in order to say one step ahead as a military superpower. With this being an online course,
one would be remiss to not note the great American accomplishment of creating a computer
communication network through the collaboration between the Department of Defense, engineers
and scientists during the Cold War.
The flare for thinking outside of the box in the United States could easily be traced back to the
founding of the nation. The Founding Fathers were nation building innovators as they wrote the
Constitution. American technological innovations have opened the doors to discovery, which has

The Day Labor Market in Phoenix, Arizona Essay
The Day Labor Market in Phoenix, Arizona
Introduction
This paper focuses on the Macehualli Day Labor Union located in Phoenix, Arizona in the 85032
area.
Throughout the history of the United States, illegal immigrants have come from all over the
world to find work and a better way of life. It is estimated that right now there are about seven
million illegal aliens living in America. About 69% of these illegal immigrants are Mexican and
over 283,000 of them live in Arizona1. In this paper, we presuppose that the illegal aliens we refer
to are Mexican. This is because the aliens living in the geographic area around the day labor center
we examine are over 99%
Mexican (Reza, 2003, personal interview).

Background of Day Labor
3
These circumstances have lead to the reemergence of a concept that has existed for a long time:
day labor. Day labor used to be geared more towards American citizens looking for temporary jobs,
but has now taken a new turn in order to fit the necessities of illegal workers. Day labor is defined
as a practice of searching for work in open air, informal markets such as street corners or in formal
temp agencies ( Work, 307).
Under this type of labor, the undocumented immigrant is considered an independent contractor or a
temporary domestic worker, and therefore employers are not obliged to ask for work authorization
( Work, 325). Day labor is extremely beneficial to aliens in that it allows immigrants to enter the
work force without being required to have legal immigration status.
There are two types of day labor industries: informal and formal. Informal day labor consists
mostly of men gathering on street corners or parking lots to solicit work. It is considered
informal because it is in no way regulated. The men are often picked up by passing cars and hired
for the day on terms worked out between the employer and the laborer. By contrast, the formal
day labor industry is connected to for profit temp agencies. These agencies place workers in
specific manual jobs and take a percentage of the workers

Their organizing skills were apparent due to their approach to find unusual foods from around the

Not that that has necessarily happened at all, it still remains a possibility. Are the employees
able to personally listen to their employers give them instruction and feedback when they re half
way across the world? Therefore, they may not take them as seriously and production/sales
could suffer as well as employee morale. Performance effectiveness and efficiency are impacted
negatively. Also, considering the fact that the company as a whole remains very quiet and do
not give interviews or spend much of anything on advertising, they run the risk of being
forgotten. Word of mouth remains prevalent for this company at this time, but that might not
always be the case. Problem Solving: First of all, I m thrown off by the fact that Hazel seems to be
hired directly in to the shift leader position at Trader Joe s considering their policy to hire from
within. But if she truly was hired in at a shift leader position, I believe she should first of course
get to know the policies of Trader Joe s and understand their expectations of her in a leadership role.

A Brief Note On The Mechanism Of Injury
Mechanism of injury:
Obstetric brachial plexus palsy is caused by traction to the brachial plexus during labour. In the
majority of cases delivery of the upper shoulder is blocked by the mother s pubic symphysis
(shoulder dystocia). If additional traction is applied to the child s head, the angle between the neck
and the shoulder is forcefully widened, overstretching the ipsilateral brachial plexus. Recently, the
exact origin of OBPP was again a matter of debate. It was suggested that intrauterine maladaptation,
not nerve traction, causes the plexopathy. [43]
However OBPP at birth is one of the causes of permanent neurological disability. The delivery
process is associated with several factors which, together, may result in OBPP in the newborn but
it is difficult to predict OBPP based on antenatally available information. Despite extensive research
one OBPP, there is no generally accepted strategy for prevention. [7]
Fortunately, Permanent damage to the upper roots is uncommon. Usual involvement is of the
suprascapular, axillary and musculocutaneous nerves. Muscles most often paralyzed are
supraspinatus and infraspinatus supplied by the suprascapular nerve, which is fixed between two
points and does not accommodate stretching. In more severely affected patients, deltoid, biceps,
brachialis and subscapularis are also involved. Patients with C5 and C6 palsies usually have
residual weakness of rhomboids and serratus anterior leading to mild winging of scapula, an

Linear Regression Line
Next the linear regression line is the line that finds the average of all x coordinates and the

which intensity the slope of the data is. The equation for finding the slope of the data provided is
seen on the right and the variables include, the correlation coefficient, and the standard deviation
of x and y. This shows us the correlation of any two plot points. If the slope is higher then it
shows a more positive correlation and if the slope is a large negative then it shows a negative
correlation. How true the correlation is must be referred back to the correlation coefficient. The

The correlation coefficient was .11 which suggested that there was a slight correlation between the
two variables. This was not as strong as I expected to find because of crime rates in high density
areas tending to be higher. The slope was also .021 which means even if there was a strong
correlation coefficient it would still be negligible. Density is not a contributing factor when in
relation to crime rates, disproving hypothesis 1. Next in table 10 the amount of police per
square mile is substituted as the x interval where crime rate stays the same as y. The correlation
coefficient was .08 which is even less than density. This disproved hypothesis 3 because there is
almost no correlation to the amount of police in an area and the crime rate. The slope was also
irrelevant at 3.6. Table 12 compared the correlation between graduation rate and crime. The
correlation between the data sets were .624 wish is a strong correlation. When graduation rates
suffer crime rates increase. The slope for this statistic is 110 which explains that for every 1
percent from 100 a graduation rate is in a city there is an additional 110 crimes committed per
100,000 people. This is a huge slope which shows how important education is in crime

The Dow Jones Industrial Average
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) is indeed the most publicized and extensively known
stock market on the globe. Being a major contributor of the N Y S E (New York Stock Exchange)
trading stocks (Ullivan, Steven, 2003), the index shares the United States economy by a notably
significant margin. Also, the index has been operational for long since its inception in the
nineteenth century, making it the first to be quoted by other publications. Its reputation has
mushroomed all over because of its understandability and reliability in the market. This paper
explains the DJIA index as well as its history in the simplest terms. Also, the paper critically
evaluates the index taking into consideration that it is a price weighted index, unlike other
substantial value, weighted measures like the S P 500 index.
The average has a rich history and development since it came into effect during the nineteenth
century. It was first unveiled in 1896 by Charles H. Dow with a major goal of disseminating
valuable information and opinions about the stock market and also contributing to the nourishment
of United States economy. The average named after Dow and his business colleague, Edward
Jones. This index mainly shows the trading patterns and performance among the 30 big
corporations in the United States. It also shows their trend in the stock market. Most investors at
the beginning used to trade on bonds mainly, followed by other few real assets such as machinery

Heroin Addiction
Heroin
According to The National Institute on Drug Abuse, heroin is an illegal, highly addictive drug. It
is both the most abused and the most rapidly acting of the opiates. Heroin is processed from
morphine, a naturally occurring substance extracted from the seed pod of certain varieties of
poppy plants. It is typically sold as a white or brownish powder or as the black sticky substance
known on the streets as black tar heroin . Although purer heroin is becoming more common, most
street heroin is cut with other drugs or with substances such as sugar, starch, powdered milk, or
quinine. Street heroin can also be cut with strychnine or other poisons. Because heroin abusers do

In the brain, heroin is converted to norphine and binds rapidly to opioid receptors. Abusers
typically report a feeling a surge of pleasurable sensation a rush . The intensity of the rush is a
function oof how much drug is taken and how rapidly the drug enters the brain and binds to the
natural opioid receptors. Heroin is particularly addictive because it enters the brain so rapidly.
With heroin, the rush is usually accompanied by a warm flushing of the skin, dry mouth, and a
heavy feeling in the extremities, which may be accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and severe
itcing. After the initial effects, abusers usually will be drowsy for several hours. Mental function is
clouded by heroin s effect on the nervous system. Cardiac function slows. Breathing is also
severely slowed, sometimes to the point of death. Heroin overdose is a particular risk on the street,
where the amount and purity of the drug cannot be known. The long term effects of heroin use and
the most detrimental is addiction itself. Addiction is a chronic, relapsing disease, characterized by
compulsive drug seeking and use, and by neurochemical and molecular changes in the brain.
Heroin also produces profound degrees of tolerance and physical dependence, which are also
motivating factors for compulsive use and abuse. As with abusers of any addictive drug, heroin
abusers gradually spend more and more time and energy obtaining and using the drug. Once they
are addicted, the heroin

No On Traveling To Mars
Since the beginning of time, people have been curious, and are always trying to explore. But
now it is 2017, and we have to understand what we should do and what we shouldn t do. People
today have a good idea about the hazards of space travel and know the consequences space travel
can have for people. And after considering Andy Weir s statement regarding travel to Mars, I am
of the opinion that we as a nation should not fund a manned mission to Mars in the near future
because it will be very expensive, we have a larger need to explore places here on Earth, and it
purposes a large danger to the people traveling in space.

Transmission Replacement Research Paper
The short answer to this is no, almost certainly not. Unfortunately, the fact of the matter is that a
busted transmission will inevitably be expensive, regardless of how you decide to handle it.
Transmissions are complicated but essential. Repairing or replacing one is always pricey, buying a
new car would be expensive as well but just because your transmissionis damaged doesn t mean
you should discard the entire car. The situation may not be as bad as you think.
On average, replacing a car s transmission can range from $1800 to $3500, which makes it one of
the most expensive things your car could possible require. However, it s still probably cheaper than
an entirely new car. If your price estimate for a transmission replacement falls on the upper end of
that scale, it s either because you drive a high end car, or you need a total rebuild following a
massive mechanical breakdown. If neither of those situations applies to you, the cost to replace
your transmission will likely be on the lower end of the scale, which makes buying a replacement
a more sound financial decision than buying a new car. If you drive a car with a manual transmission
, you may be able to fix the problem by replacing your clutch, which will probably cost you $1000
to $1500. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As long as your mechanic makes sure that a used transmission won t pose problems to your car,

Revolution. Factories were introduced to Britain, which created lots of jobs for many working

orphan in the 1800 s. He was born into the workhouse, and has never set foot outside it, nor
would he ever have the chance to. This was the same for most children in these times. The
circumstances in which he was born, gives us insight into how society was. Oliver s mother was

How Is Math Used In Lacrosse
The Types of Math Used in Lacrosse
Most people would assume that soccer is the fastest game played with two feet, but actually it is
lacrosse. Math is used in the game of lacrosse in many ways, as an example the angle you shoot at
determines where the ball goes. Also, an example of math being used would be the different shapes
in the game. Like for example, the field you play on is a rectangle with different shapes and lines
to determine the foul lines, shooting lines, and the half field. Another subject of math being
involved in lacrosse is the area inside the net. This is how much space there is in the net, where the
ball could go.
In lacrosse, angles are mostly used in shooting. An angle is the space within two to three lines or
more planes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The math involved is the area inside the netting. The area is the extent or the measurement of a
surface or piece of land. The area of the boys and men s net is different because of the size of the
net. The official men s lacrosse net s size is 6 H x 6 W x 7 D. The area of the net is 69.6 square
feet, to find this out first you need to multiply the depth of 7 ft. and the height of 6 ft. which will
bring you to 42 ft. After you have done that you take the two numbers of the net, which would be
6 and 7, and you times them by themselves. This would lead you with 36 and 49. You then add
these numbers to get 85 and square root this number to get 9.2. Now if you where to times the
leftover 6 and the 9.2 you would get 55.2. After that you divide that by two to get 27.6 which would
would add to the 42 you got before and your answer would come out and be 69.6 square feet. The
lacrosse field has certain measurements and lines on it. The field is played on a 110 yd. (100 m.)
long and 60 yd. (55 m.) wide field. There are five lines or areas of the field, one of them is the
midfield line, which divides the whole field into two, so the sides are 50 m. on each side.
Another area of the field is the defense and attack area. The lines are marked 35 yards from the
end of the field. Theses markers and areas of the field are very important to the game because that

Imagecaster. All items that are often utilized by the forbidden Jedi. Oyell listened to their limp
nagotions before acting on his suspicion that they were actually Jedi trying their hand at a new
trade. The fight that ensued was quick, but devastating. We lost seven hired guns, while the
arrogant Chiss man was shot through the back of the head by a blaster pistol, he was still
swinging his lightsaber when blast hit. He fell otop his lightsaber that was still aglow, chopping
his body in half from hip to shoulder. Shortly after the falling of the Chiss man the human
dropped his weapon and surrendered. The human was imprisoned with us for over three months
according to the Galactic Standard Calendar. I was put in charge of watching over the human, and
to report anything he told me. In this time I learned much of the Jedi and their ways. At one point
he remarked how he sensed the force was strong in me, but there was also much conflict. I told

Journaling Is A Common Practice
An old adage says that thoughts disentangle themselves when passed through the lips and across
the fingertips (Whitney 260). Thoughts clutter up our minds and need a release; for some, this is
journaling. Journaling can be defined as a practice in which one writes out a variety of things. It
isn t confined to one specific thing. It can range from daily events and struggles, to poetry, to Bible
verses. They hold a purpose in some time and place, though some may prefer one over another.
Journaling has been noted throughout the ages as being beneficial in many lives and providing a
source of hope for many, even in the most difficult times, though some others may find it harmful.
Journaling does not necessarily have a specific... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us (ESV, Ps.
62.6 8). The Psalms were like David s personal journal. It documents his feelings, mainly towards
God, and gives a commentary of the thoughts running through his mind. It clearly shows David
questioning God and going through rough patches, but it also shows moments of great delight and
times of significant triumph in his life.
Not only do Biblical figures highlight the use of journaling, but many other notable people and
people groups note journaling as a common practice in their lives. Saint Augustine, one of the
most revered figures in the church for the way he shaped the way we view Christianity today,
was even known to have kept a journal in the form of one of his most famous books, Confessions
(Whitney 251). For 68 years Queen Victoria was known to have kept a daily journal (Conhaim).
Also, the Puritans, the group of people the set out to reform the English church, kept journals
themselves. They were considered highly religious and Donald Whitney notes this by saying, The
fact that many Puritans kept diaries of this kind helps to explain their pursuit of social virtue:
diaries were the reckoning books in which they checked the assets and liabilities of their souls in
faith. When they opened these books, they set down lapses of morality with appropriate
expressions of faith (qtd. in Whitney 253 254). All of these people kept a journal

APPEARANCE vs. REALITY IN THE PRINCE AND HAMLET
3. Reality and appearances, or if you prefer, being and acting, are important themes for both
Machiavelli and Shakespeare. Why? How do their perspectives on this subject agree or differ?
APPEARANCE vs. REALITY IN THE PRINCE AND HAMLET
One of the most fundamental questions in philosophy is the appearance vs. reality. We find
ourselves asking the question of what is genuinely real, and what is viewed merely as just an
appearance, and not real? It becomes difficult when we assume there is a difference in the two to
determine which is which. Generally, what we label as real is regarded as external and eternal.
What we refer to as just an appearance is regarded as temporary and internal. Many early as well as
modern day authors use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although he appears to be a confident father he does not trust his son to go away on his own.
Furthermore, Polonius adds to the theme of appearance versus reality by ordering Ophelia to stop
seeing Hamlet. He lies to her by telling her that Hamlet does not love her, he only lusts for her.
Two of Hamlet s closest friends from his childhood Rosencrantz and Guildenstern can as well be
viewed as liars who become very deceitful to Hamlet. After being asked by the king to find out
what is bothering Hamlet, the two go to Hamlet pretending to see him as a friend, but are in
reality just obeying the king s orders. When they ask what is troubling Hamlet, they become
insincere, and almost sound as though they had rehearsed what it was they were going to say.
Hamlet noticed that the boys were told to do this and states, A dream itself is but a shadow
(Hamlet 73). Hamlet then realized that his own friend were not in reality any friends at all. The
king again sends Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to apologize for their behavior but Hamlet noticed
their intentions yet again and simply insulted them. Hamlet s supposed friends greatly add to the
theme of appearance vs. reality.

Cambodia And Indonesia Post Colonialism
Bunch, Justin
Prof. Biggs
Spring 15
Cambodia and Indonesia post colonialism The culmination of World War II saw many changes for
nation building not only in the spheres of Europe and East Asia, but also in regions of the world
infected by imperialism such as Southeast Asia. During this time many imperialist powers lost their
footholds in Southeast Asia due to an inability to project their dominance as they had before, such as
in the case of the Dutch in Indonesia and the French throughout Indochina. Nationalist movements
would unfold in one manner or another during this time and by the mid 1950 s most former
European colonies throughout the region had won their independence. Two such former colonies

After World War II when the French and Dutch returned to reclaim their lost territories, they found
things not as they left them.
In Cambodia up until 45 the French were trying to hold onto their Indochina territory by installing a
French educated prince named Sihanouk, figuring he would be more sympathetic to French
dominion of the area. However the Japanese were the ones in control of Cambodia and much of
Southeast Asia during WWII and they removed the French and declared Cambodia free.
When the war ended the French wanted to reclaim their territory, and allowed Cambodia to make a
constitutional monarchy but decided to manipulate the constitution in their favor by backing one of
the political parties that did not push for independence. France retained power in this way until in
1953 when Sihanouk told the French he would arm the population against them if they did not
grant independence. What also happed during this time was the populace was already arming
themselves via becoming Communist courtesy of their neighbors the Vietnamese. (Emergence
366) Sihanouk after getting rid of the French in order to consolidate power installed his father as
monarch, which had no real power behind it, and became the Prime Minister to wield absolute
power. Sihanouk then maneuvered himself to the head of the most powerful political party of
Cambodia and solidified his reign as the true head of state until the upheaval of 1970.

Mark Herman Little Voice
This week s film was Little Voices by Mark Herman. In short, this film talks about this shy,
reclusive woman who has issues displaying her true feeling, but at the same time she has a special
talent of singing. Little Voice (Jane Horrocks) gets her break when her mother hooks up with this
recruiter named Ray Say (Michael Caine). Throughout the film, there are many developments that
build each characters persona. The mother of Little Voice, as the audience will know, is a
repulsive and sometimes a rude person with little to no comforting words for her. The father of
Little Voice is a person that she looks up for as a savior to the current circumstances that she is
dealing with her mother. Ray is a more outgoing person with him having stints... Show more content

Little Voice is such an enigmatic person that has many personalities that some will say that she
is crazy as mentioned by her mother or she is brilliant by Ray. Some of the ways the movie
reinforces either or situation is by the use of point of view shots and the expressionistic acting of
Little Voice. Point of view shots is any shot that is taken from the vantage point of a character in
the film, showing what the character sees. (Giannetti, 526). This can be found with the positive
aspects of her when she is performing to a sold out theater with a smile on her face and
conversely, Little Voice can be seen in a different light with her yelling at her mother at the end of
the movie telling her Can you hear me now, mother? The scenes mentioned above helps builds the
traumatic and difficult lifestyle that Little Voice had to deal with her mother being a disgusting
person and her absent father being the person that she actually respects. The concept of point of
views strengthens the viewpoint of Little Voice into knowing more of her individual story and
reinforces the story line into a more complex storyline without any lapses or

My Brother Has A Big Impact On Me And My Life

TITLE
In the early years of my life I had no idea that my brother would make such a big impact on me
and my life. He has taught me more than any teacher possible could. Through him I learned how
to be compassionate. I learned how to treat each and every person with respect, despite what
challenges they may face. He brought me into an amazing community that taught me numerous life
lessons. He challenged me every step of the way, like any brother should, and altered the way I
viewed the world. My brother has autism, and he has been my greatest teacher.
In the early years I didn t understand much of what was going on. I just thought that he was my
twin brother, and like any twins at the time, I thought we were exactly alike. We played games
together and roamed around our driveway on our bikes whenever he wanted to. Lots of times
when I would want to play games he wouldn t want to and would throw a tantrum. I didn t think
much of it and would just go to my sister and we would just play instead. I thought that was
normal. I was under the impression that it was normal for kids like me to spend their whole
afternoons in various waiting rooms for their sibling s therapy. I didn t understand that instead
most people went and played sports or had play dates. By the age of 7 I began to realize that all of
this was not the case.
One evening after dinner my parents told me that my brother had autism. At first they only really

Parents spend real fortunes investing in their children s education in order to improve their fluency
in English (and in other subjects). Many families spend a third of their income with private lessons,
textbooks, standardized tests (such as TOEFL) and international interchange programs. The author
concludes that the costs outweigh the benefits as there is an unhealthy lack of balance between
studies and social/parental pressure with sleeping hours and leisure. In the penultimate part of the
book, the author offers a glimpse of what Koreans do when they are not working. He talks about
how the hanok, the classical Korean home, was replaced by uniform apartment buildings with no
sense of aesthetics in larger cities to accommodate the waves of people moving to urban areas in the

environmental advantages of the hanok, which is normally constructed of natural material. There s

The Revolutionary Coffee Company, And The Variables That...
Section One Background
The Keurig case study is an interesting examination of the revolutionary coffee company, and the
variables that will shape the future of the company and industry. The basis of the Keurig case study
is the transition for niche product aiming for the mainstream success of everyday use by consumers
in their homes, to one of the industry leaders among the coffee industry giants. Keurig had been
founded to commercialize an innovative technology that allowed coffee lovers to brew one
perfect cup of coffee at a time (Hitt, Hoskisson, Ireland, 2016, p.C 87). Hence, the attempt to
create a new segment within the coffee industry would take time, and education efforts to promote
and sell the benefits of the new coffee makers. After 11 years of trying to perfect the desired
product the company believed could change the industry, Keurig was able to develop the K cup.
The K cup brand was built of the idea of the consumer being able to brew a single cup of coffee at
the perfect temperature and superior tasting at the convenience of their home (Hitt, Hoskisson,
Ireland, 2016, p.C 87). As a result, this new product began to set the market on fire because the new
features were never available for customers, which in turn created the issue of competition. Patents
are key to protecting the intellectual property that generates the sources of knowledge, technology,
and designs used by companies such as Keurig to obtain and maintain an advantage within the

Fairytales In The Bloody Chamber By Angela Carter
Fairy tales often show that it is the boys and men who are the ones allowed to go on adventures
and save the day, Angela Carter changes that by making it that anyone even girls and women, can
share those same curious, adventurous, and even heroic characteristics. The term is mainly used
for stories with origins in European tradition and, at least in recent centuries, mostly relates to
children s literature. Fairytales have been around for a long time, starting off as oral stories later to
be collected by the Grimm brothers in the early 19th century. It is normally males that would gather

Our names are what give us our identity. In fairytales it is no different, a name can be a
powerful thing. An example of this is in the tale of Rumpelstiltskin, just by guessing
Rumpelstiltskin s name breaks the bargain made for the first born child. In The Bloody
Chamber, we know that the first person narrator is female, but her name is unmentioned. This is
difference between the original story and Angela Carter s is in the original the wife is not
addressed other than wife whereas as in the Bloody Chamber is called by multiple names, but
mostly pet names by her husband. She is called Madame by workers at the castle and with some
diminutive words such as My little nun, Baby (17), My little love, and My child (18) by her
husband. The female narrator labels herself by some words such as I, the orphan, the chГўtelaine
and I, the little music student (13), a little girl (18), child (18), and his bride (13). It seems that
she adopts the adjectives attributed to her by the outer world. On the other hand, the man she
marries to holds an ancestral name of The Marquis (36) which symbolizes mastery and power,
and the heroine calls the Marquis, my husband and my purchaser (15). Having these names in
the story not only gives the story a fable feel but also shows the power dynamic between the
narrator and the Marquis. The main character goes on to describe how the Marquis looks at her
like a house wife would look at meat at the supermarket, the narrator compares herself to a female
figure in an etching described as a lamb chop (17). Comparing herself to a lamb, which is normally
seen as the victim, and the Marques is equated to a lion, the hunter, shows that the narrator sees

When viewing live specimens with the microscope it can be very difficult to see. What makes

Many people become materialistic and money oriented, there is not important of ethic and morals
in business dealing. Many people think that money coming to their pocket is good, same way they
think money going out from their pocket is bad but they don t consider the way money is traveling.
This is because these kinds of people have no moral accountability to anybody and these kind have
the people full trust on money. They strongly believing that money can hold big role in their life,
they believing that money can solve their current and future problems and they believing that
money can give them life without problem.
Political corruption is a chain that spans the various countries of the world and they usually occur
when government officials abuse their power for personal gain or interest. Very few are those
who use or know the term transparency , being that the power is very easy to corrupt. The political
corruption is the misuse of public power that aims to gain some profit or advantage in an illegal
way, usually secretly and privately.
Governments are very sensitive to political corruption. Therefore, there are many types of
corruption such as illegitimate use of inside information, drug trafficking, patronage, extortion,

Comparison Of Warren Prior And Richard Cory
Richard Cory by Edwin Arlington Robinson, and Warren Prior by Alden Nowlan are both poems
which discuss the unhappiness people tend to hide about themselves. In these poems, irony is used
to show how each persona is deeply unsatisfied with the circumstances they face although appearing
different to their peers. To begin with, Richard Coryis about a man named Richard Cory who is
notorious for being wealthy and seemingly has the type of lifestyle others would envy. However,
what was seen on the surface was deceiving, because at the end of the poem we learn that Cory

In both poems, we see irony used as a device to bring emphasis to the theme of the poem. For
example, in Richard Cory the townsfolk absolutely adored Cory, and [they] wished [they] were
in his place. But, this was due to the fact that the townsfolk only viewed the exterior of Cory and
saw that he was clean favoured. As well, the townsfolk were well aware that Cory was richer
than a king. However, they were not aware of the true feelings Cory carried as they focused on
materialistic properties rather than personality traits. Thus, being a case of situational irony as
most would expect someone with great wealth to be content with their life. Moving on, in
Warren Pryor irony is shown within the son s relationship with his parents. The parents of the
son grew up poor on a farm and simply wanted a better life for their son, so they worked
extremely hard to send him to school and free him from the stony fields. Despite the great efforts
the parents went through to watch their son receive an education, the son himself was throttled

Since 1898 language has become a central issue in the Puerto Rican educational system. In the
1930s the US demanded that English be the official language to be taught in schools. This was
very hard for people to get used to because most of the people on the island spoke Spanish.
Because this was such a drastic change for many there was a lot of objection to this law. Therefore
soon English became the second language. In 1991 the Puerto Rican legislature promoted a bill that
stated that Spanish would be the official language. Although later this bill was modified and in 93
both languages gained equal status. Today Spanish is the official language that classes are
conducted in. In contrast the United States teaches classes in English.
The language barrier appears to be the biggest problem between the schools in the States and
education on the island. The schooling in the States compared to that of Puerto Rico s is

Toni Morrison Essay On Women
While Toni Morrison s male characters are often underdeveloped, Jacob, Frank, and Booker all

To begin with, Jacob s goal in life is to become wealthy, much like the D Ortagas. Due to his poor

how she had to teach him how to fish and how his crops died when he ignored her advice: He
ignored her warning of using alewives as fertilizer only to see his plots of tender vegetables torn up
by foragers attracted by the smell (A Mercy 58). When he begins to travel, he abandons the farm

league. Basketball has expanded and has become a global phenomenon allowing fans to interact
with athletes and change the way fans watch basketball through social media. Being a basketball fan
where you could only watch your favorite teams games on television and listen on the radio to
now being able to stream live games online with your laptop, phone, tablet, etc. There was a time
players could only show their personalities by interviews and newspaper but with social media
exposure, fans get to see their favorite basketball in another way from just seeing them on the court.
In a way, fans feel more attached to a player having to interact with a certain player on Twitter,
Facebook, Instagram rather then just reading about them, they get a first hand experience.
Part 2 Review Of Literature NBA fan culture and its interactions with players have revolutionized
the league over the years. Fans only had the ability to either watch on TV or go see the game but
now with Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts, there s a whole new way for fans to interact
with athletes and stay connected. A paradigm shift has taken place in the American culture where
fans feel a need for instant gratification. Social media now allows fans to fill their need without
needing

Turnus In The Aeneid Essay
eus is Aeneas foil hence one of the most important characters of The Aeneid. Read The Aeneid by
Virgil (readings listed in your syllabus) taking careful note the actions of Turnus and discuss the
following: The death of Turnus is sudden and shocking. What does the manner of his death indicate
about Turnus and what does it show about Aeneas? Is Turnus a hero or a victim? The Aeneidby
Virgilis a classic poem that describes the way the Trojans survived after the Greeks invaded and
destroyed their hometown, Troy. The Poem explains the Trojans movements and how they
found the city of Rome that was ruled by King Latinus at the time. The King at the time was
happy to open his arms to the Trojans, as he believed in a prophecy that stated that it was meant
to be that his daughter had to get married to a foreigner. It only made sense for the King to
welcome the Trojans, as by doing so he would increase the chances of the prophecy being
fulfilled. While this was the King s hopes plan s, his wife Amata wanted Lavania to marry the King
of Rutilians, Turnus who ruled an ethnic group in Italy. The conflict rose when King Latinus
decided to hand his daughter s hand to Aeneas, and Turnus hot tempered as always did not sit quiet
and launched an attack against Aeneas, which ended up lead to the death of Turnus. The series of...

Unfortunately, there was a twist in the tale as the King wanted to fulfill the prophecy and make
sure that his daughter married Aeneas. Turnus emotional character didn t take that well and his

Why Do Gun Controls Cause Violent Crime
controls cause more violent crime, why would many states with the lowest homicide rates also have
relatively low gun control laws?
There is variably no connection to high gun ownership rates and higher amounts of crime. There are
only 6 states in which 50 percent of the household s own firearms that is Alaska, Arkansas, Idaho,
Montana, West Virginia and Wyoming. If guncontrol advocates are correct about guns, these states
would have much more higher crime rates. Data provided by the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention show that 4 of the 6 states ranked in the top half of states having the lowest homicide
rates. Two of the states, Idaho and Wyoming are in the top in the top six.
Further, many cities with very low legal gun ownership rates and stringent gun control laws, such as
Chicago, have extremely high gun related murder rates.
Gun control laws also don t prevent mass shootings. An analysis conducted by statistician Leah
Libresco shows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This has little hope of working in the United States, though, where most gun owners want to keep
their firearms, however even if this were to be effective, how would the government stop newly
illegal guns from flooding into the country across America s massive, largely unguarded borders?
A study published in 2013 by the Trans Border Institute and Igarape Institute estimates an average
of 253,000 firearms cross the U.S. Mexico border every year. Earlier in 2017, the Canadian
government reported it believes there are greater than 1 million prohibited guns in its country, and
Canadian officials believe most of the firearms were brought there from the United States. These
figures prove that without massive border security improvements which, ironically, most gun
control advocates oppose there s no way a substantial reduction in guns could ever

The Poisoner s Handbook By Deborah Blums Best Selling Book
The film that I am reviewing, title The Poisoner s Handbook, is based on Deborah Blums best
selling book, of the same title, which reflects on the most notorious cases between the years of
1918 and 1959 that were handled by Charles Norris, the chief medical examiner for New York City,
also known and described by his peers as the father of forensic toxicologyin America, and
Alexander Oscar Gettler, toxicologist with the Office of Chief Medical Examiner of the City of
New York, such as the fatal radium poisoning of the factory workers who contracted radiation
poisoning from painting watch dials with self luminous paint at the Orange, New Jersey watch
factory around the year 1917 and other cases that involve dangerous poisons, like arsenic, methanol,
lead, carbon monoxide, denatured alcohol, radium and thallium. Their renowned work led to
tougher regulations by the government and the creation of the Food and Drug Administration. The
film depicts how the average American s medicine cabinet, in the early 1900s, was a treasure chest
of dangerous poisons that could make you ill, put you in a coma, and even kill you. These poisons
were readily found in health tonics, depilatory creams, teething medicine, and cleaning supplies.
In the early 1920s, medical examiners and coroners were appointed by the mayor and were
responsible for investigating every suspicious death in New York City. The position was a political
one and anyone, including musicians, painters, milkmen could

Steven Johnson s Emergence
In Emergence, Steven Johnson argues that small scale interactions give way to global behaviors
first examining ant colonies, and thereafter analyzing human cells, virtual cities, and real cities.
Economic models from the 1990s show that, in the absence of confounding variables, businesses
will naturally self organize into evenly spaces clusters. I wonder how physical features like lakes,
forests, and mountains impact these models. I also wonder how the organizational structure of a city
(grid like versus radial) impacts the locational decisions of businesses.
This reading reminded me of a famous economics essay entitled I Pencil. It details the process of
creating a traditional wooden pencil, starting from cedar trees in California and rubber

Examples Of Knowledge Is Innate
Knowledge is innate. That according to Plato our knowledge is inborn and I agree on that.
Tulad nalang ng isang bagong panganak na sanggol. Why do they have the knowledge to cry in
the first place and why do they know how to drink milk. That thing is already knowledge.
Everything we do is knowledge because we do that particular thing because we have that
knowledge to do it. For an example, some people ask kailan ka natuto kumanta? and they will
answer us inborn na to! dahil lahi pala talaga nila ang magagaling kumanta. This knowledge must
come from before birth. I honestly agree with Plato, because there are things that it is inborn or
innate that everyone has in it, iba iba man pero that thing made us all unique. But suddenly Aristotle
contradicts it he said that There is no innate knowledge It s like that our human mind is a tabula rasa
a blank slate which experience imprints knowledge.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because we learn that every challenge that come into our lives, there is a particular solution for it,
and our life is like a mathematical equation we need to do the trial and error process to find the
perfect match and to make the equation right. But, according to our handouts, in St. Thomas
Aquinas theory of knowledge he is firm on the fact that there are no innate ideas, but that all
knowledge must proceed first from the senses. The sense data gathered by our external and internal
senses from a sense or image is known as the phantasm. And it goes through the active intellect
which concerned with

Studs Terkel Interview
The interview is between a grave digger, Homer Martinez, and Studs Terkel. Terkel is very to the
point in this interview. He wants to know the information that he has set out to gain. Terkel was
often able to guide the information he wanted out of Mr. Martinez. Being a gravedigger is a
very emotional job or at least it can be and I believe that Terkel does a very good job at getting
the gravedigger to tap into that emotion and give us answers that he most likely would not. We
learned that Mr. Martinez believes and had come to terms that dying is a part of human nature. It
is going to happen to all of us. The gravedigger has accepted that and has that understand, which
few people have. He says he always wear black sun glasses because the eyes

Definition Of Rowing Essay
Some things are hard for people to understand. Like how anyone could be proud of nasty, yellow
calluses that make your hands feel like leather or how anyone could hate a machine that s
supposed to help you. To most rowing is just another sport, but to people who row it s a key
component of their identity. I believe the hardest thing for people to understand about rowingis why
anyone would put themselves through intense pain to win a race. Sometimes it s even hard for
me to remember why I started rowing in the first place. Then I realize that I don t know what I d
do if I didn t row. I don t know where I would be without my teammates, coaches, and parents who
have pushed and supported me to do better and be better.
Rowing has taught me more

  • 2. The Effects Of Reading On Reading For Pleasure Forced/required/assigned reading has a significant effect on all students. Forced reading is reading assigned by school teachers to students who will eventually be tested over the plot, characters, themes and/or other details in the book. Many students don t realize that required reading is much different than readingfor pleasure. Testing over assigned readingrequires a student to pay attention to several small details that would otherwise be overlooked if they were reading on their own. Although it is required reading, many students find ways around it by searching the internet for Sparknotes, Cliff Notes, plot summaries, character lists, etc. to give them an overview of the bookto excel on the tests they are given. Required reading can have an effect on a person s idea of reading for pleasure for the rest of their life. So, how does assigned reading affect a student s view on reading for pleasure both positively and negatively? Although almost all students despise assigned reading, it can have significant positive outcomes. There are so many other forms of entertainment that have become more popular in today s world, such as video games, movies, athletic event and social media. With this in mind, forced reading can be positive, because most students would never have the motivation to pick up a book, magazine article, newspaper, etc. on their own time if they did not have assigned reading for school. It exposes some of these students to reading that would otherwise ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But as I went through my notes I realized how many phenomenal philosophers have played a part in developing the basis for education in this country. I realized also that I could not answer the question stated above with a singularphilosopher s name. However, I do agree with definite points of individual philosophers and have decided to create my own portrait of what an educated man (or woman) would look like. I start with the heart of Horace Mann because his heart was in the right place. He believed that everyone should be enrolled in school. What student can learn to the best of their potential when they are not seen as a person but as a future person? Mary Wallstonecraft s elbows are the next ingredients. She believed that male and female students should be educated together in order to literally learn about each other and respect each other s differences. She preached that there should be a focus on the family and learning near your home. Along with Wallstonecraft is Catherine Beecher. Beecher advocated for the rights of women in the field of education. She enforced the idea of exercise and its health benefits, especially for women, at a time when the idea was considered taboo. Beecher had a hand in the advancement of female colleges and although she did not believe in equal education for men and woman she did act as a catalyst for the beginnings of female education. Soon the feet of Rousseau must be added to my educated person. Rousseau adhered to the idea that students should be allowed to grow on their own and form their own identities. Also, he did not believe in the physical punishment of students. He believed in the natural state of things and the freedom of man, which is necessary to instill truly free learning in students. One of the greatest accomplishments the United States can claim is to have put a man on the moon in 1969. In describing the impact of the moon landing, historian Arthur M. Schlesinger Jr. notes, The one thing for which this century will be remembered 500 years from now was: This was the century when we began the exploration of space (Launius, 2006). In the 47 years since the moonlanding, no other nation has been able to land on the moon marking this as a lasting legacy to American perseverance in the exploration of space. The Day Labor Market in Phoenix, Arizona Essay The Day Labor Market in Phoenix, Arizona Introduction This paper focuses on the Macehualli Day Labor Union located in Phoenix, Arizona in the 85032 area. Throughout the history of the United States, illegal immigrants have come from all over the world to find work and a better way of life. It is estimated that right now there are about seven million illegal aliens living in America. About 69% of these illegal immigrants are Mexican and over 283,000 of them live in Arizona1. In this paper, we presuppose that the illegal aliens we refer to are Mexican. This is because the aliens living in the geographic area around the day labor center we examine are over 99% Mexican (Reza, 2003, personal interview). Many Mexicans risk ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Background of Day Labor 3 These circumstances have lead to the reemergence of a concept that has existed for a long time: day labor. Day labor used to be geared more towards American citizens looking for temporary jobs, but has now taken a new turn in order to fit the necessities of illegal workers. Day labor is defined as a practice of searching for work in open air, informal markets such as street corners or in formal temp agencies ( Work, 307). Under this type of labor, the undocumented immigrant is considered an independent contractor or a temporary domestic worker, and therefore employers are not obliged to ask for work authorization ( Work, 325). Day labor is extremely beneficial to aliens in that it allows immigrants to enter the work force without being required to have legal immigration status. There are two types of day labor industries: informal and formal. Informal day labor consists mostly of men gathering on street corners or parking lots to solicit work. It is considered informal because it is in no way regulated. The men are often picked up by passing cars and hired for the day on terms worked out between the employer and the laborer. By contrast, the formal day labor industry is connected to for profit temp agencies. These agencies place workers in specific manual jobs and take a percentage of the workers ... • 9. A Brief Note On The Mechanism Of Injury Mechanism of injury: Obstetric brachial plexus palsy is caused by traction to the brachial plexus during labour. In the majority of cases delivery of the upper shoulder is blocked by the mother s pubic symphysis (shoulder dystocia). If additional traction is applied to the child s head, the angle between the neck and the shoulder is forcefully widened, overstretching the ipsilateral brachial plexus. Recently, the exact origin of OBPP was again a matter of debate. It was suggested that intrauterine maladaptation, not nerve traction, causes the plexopathy. [43] However OBPP at birth is one of the causes of permanent neurological disability. The delivery process is associated with several factors which, together, may result in OBPP in the newborn but it is difficult to predict OBPP based on antenatally available information. Despite extensive research one OBPP, there is no generally accepted strategy for prevention. [7] Fortunately, Permanent damage to the upper roots is uncommon. Usual involvement is of the suprascapular, axillary and musculocutaneous nerves. Muscles most often paralyzed are supraspinatus and infraspinatus supplied by the suprascapular nerve, which is fixed between two points and does not accommodate stretching. In more severely affected patients, deltoid, biceps, brachialis and subscapularis are also involved. Patients with C5 and C6 palsies usually have residual weakness of rhomboids and serratus anterior leading to mild winging of scapula, an acceptable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The correlation coefficient was .11 which suggested that there was a slight correlation between the two variables. This was not as strong as I expected to find because of crime rates in high density areas tending to be higher. The slope was also .021 which means even if there was a strong correlation coefficient it would still be negligible. Density is not a contributing factor when in relation to crime rates, disproving hypothesis 1. Next in table 10 the amount of police per square mile is substituted as the x interval where crime rate stays the same as y. The correlation coefficient was .08 which is even less than density. This disproved hypothesis 3 because there is almost no correlation to the amount of police in an area and the crime rate. The slope was also irrelevant at 3.6. Table 12 compared the correlation between graduation rate and crime. The correlation between the data sets were .624 wish is a strong correlation. When graduation rates suffer crime rates increase. The slope for this statistic is 110 which explains that for every 1 percent from 100 a graduation rate is in a city there is an additional 110 crimes committed per 100,000 people. It is typically sold as a white or brownish powder or as the black sticky substance known on the streets as black tar heroin . In the brain, heroin is converted to norphine and binds rapidly to opioid receptors. Abusers typically report a feeling a surge of pleasurable sensation a rush . The intensity of the rush is a function oof how much drug is taken and how rapidly the drug enters the brain and binds to the natural opioid receptors. Heroin is particularly addictive because it enters the brain so rapidly. With heroin, the rush is usually accompanied by a warm flushing of the skin, dry mouth, and a heavy feeling in the extremities, which may be accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and severe itcing. After the initial effects, abusers usually will be drowsy for several hours. Mental function is clouded by heroin s effect on the nervous system. Cardiac function slows. The long term effects of heroin use and the most detrimental is addiction itself. Addiction is a chronic, relapsing disease, characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use, and by neurochemical and molecular changes in the brain. • 15. Transmission Replacement Research Paper The short answer to this is no, almost certainly not. Unfortunately, the fact of the matter is that a busted transmission will inevitably be expensive, regardless of how you decide to handle it. Transmissions are complicated but essential. Repairing or replacing one is always pricey, buying a new car would be expensive as well but just because your transmissionis damaged doesn t mean you should discard the entire car. The situation may not be as bad as you think. On average, replacing a car s transmission can range from $1800 to $3500, which makes it one of the most expensive things your car could possible require. However, it s still probably cheaper than an entirely new car. If your price estimate for a transmission replacement falls on the upper end of that scale, it s either because you drive a high end car, or you need a total rebuild following a massive mechanical breakdown. If neither of those situations applies to you, the cost to replace your transmission will likely be on the lower end of the scale, which makes buying a replacement a more sound financial decision than buying a new car. The area is the extent or the measurement of a surface or piece of land. The area of the boys and men s net is different because of the size of the net. The official men s lacrosse net s size is 6 H x 6 W x 7 D. The area of the net is 69.6 square feet, to find this out first you need to multiply the depth of 7 ft. and the height of 6 ft. which will bring you to 42 ft. After you have done that you take the two numbers of the net, which would be 6 and 7, and you times them by themselves. This would lead you with 36 and 49. You then add these numbers to get 85 and square root this number to get 9.2. Now if you where to times the leftover 6 and the 9.2 you would get 55.2. After that you divide that by two to get 27.6 which would would add to the 42 you got before and your answer would come out and be 69.6 square feet. The lacrosse field has certain measurements and lines on it. The field is played on a 110 yd. (100 m.) long and 60 yd. (55 m.) wide field. There are five lines or areas of the field, one of them is the midfield line, which divides the whole field into two, so the sides are 50 m. on each side. Thoughts clutter up our minds and need a release; for some, this is journaling. Journaling can be defined as a practice in which one writes out a variety of things. It isn t confined to one specific thing. It can range from daily events and struggles, to poetry, to Bible verses. They hold a purpose in some time and place, though some may prefer one over another. It clearly shows David questioning God and going through rough patches, but it also shows moments of great delight and times of significant triumph in his life. They were considered highly religious and Donald Whitney notes this by saying, The fact that many Puritans kept diaries of this kind helps to explain their pursuit of social virtue: diaries were the reckoning books in which they checked the assets and liabilities of their souls in faith. How do their perspectives on this subject agree or differ? APPEARANCE vs. REALITY IN THE PRINCE AND HAMLET One of the most fundamental questions in philosophy is the appearance vs. reality. We find ourselves asking the question of what is genuinely real, and what is viewed merely as just an appearance, and not real? It becomes difficult when we assume there is a difference in the two to determine which is which. Generally, what we label as real is regarded as external and eternal. Two of Hamlet s closest friends from his childhood Rosencrantz and Guildenstern can as well be viewed as liars who become very deceitful to Hamlet. During this time many imperialist powers lost their footholds in Southeast Asia due to an inability to project their dominance as they had before, such as in the case of the Dutch in Indonesia and the French throughout Indochina. However the Japanese were the ones in control of Cambodia and much of Southeast Asia during WWII and they removed the French and declared Cambodia free. When the war ended the French wanted to reclaim their territory, and allowed Cambodia to make a constitutional monarchy but decided to manipulate the constitution in their favor by backing one of the political parties that did not push for independence. Section One Background The Keurig case study is an interesting examination of the revolutionary coffee company, and the variables that will shape the future of the company and industry. The basis of the Keurig case study is the transition for niche product aiming for the mainstream success of everyday use by consumers in their homes, to one of the industry leaders among the coffee industry giants. Keurig had been founded to commercialize an innovative technology that allowed coffee lovers to brew one perfect cup of coffee at a time (Hitt, Hoskisson, Ireland, 2016, p.C 87). Hence, the attempt to create a new segment within the coffee industry would take time, and education efforts to promote and sell the benefits of the new coffee makers. After 11 years of trying to perfect the desired product the company believed could change the industry, Keurig was able to develop the K cup. The K cup brand was built of the idea of the consumer being able to brew a single cup of coffee at the perfect temperature and superior tasting at the convenience of their home (Hitt, Hoskisson, Ireland, 2016, p.C 87). As a result, this new product began to set the market on fire because the new features were never available for customers, which in turn created the issue of competition. In The Bloody Chamber, we know that the first person narrator is female, but her name is unmentioned. She is called Madame by workers at the castle and with some diminutive words such as My little nun, Baby (17), My little love, and My child (18) by her husband. The female narrator labels herself by some words such as I, the orphan, the chГўtelaine and I, the little music student (13), a little girl (18), child (18), and his bride (13). It seems that she adopts the adjectives attributed to her by the outer world. On the other hand, the man she marries to holds an ancestral name of The Marquis (36) which symbolizes mastery and power, and the heroine calls the Marquis, my husband and my purchaser (15). Having these names in the story not only gives the story a fable feel but also shows the power dynamic between the narrator and the Marquis. The main character goes on to describe how the Marquis looks at her like a house wife would look at meat at the supermarket, the narrator compares herself to a female figure in an etching described as a lamb chop (17). The Samsung is able to do a lot of things that the Kindle cannot, such as take pictures. The Samsung has a camera that allows me to always be able to take a photo of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I enjoy watching movies on it, because the screen is a decent size and it is also portable. So I could download a few movies and be able to take it when my family goes places. I can watch movies on my phone but, the kindle s bigger screen takes the experience to a whole new level. Another thing I like is that it allows me to play some of my favorite games on a bigger screen which can make it easier to work with. The Kindle is better for reading as well. There is a reason that the first Kindle started as a reading device. It allows me to be able to read basically all of the books I want in a device that is almost the size of a regular book. With the Samsung I can read books however the smaller screen makes it difficult to get that reading experience that I absolutely love. Though there are many differences between the Samsung and the Kindle they also have many similarities. They are both able to access the internet so I can do research for an essay or just get on Facebook to connect with friends I have not seen in a long time. They also both have the ability for me to listen to music, something that is good because I need music like I need my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Ethnography of Basketball Fan Culture Ethnography of Basketball Fan Culture Part 1 Introduction As a basketball fanatic, I choose to investigate how fan culture surrounding basketball has grown and has become such a fan oriented league. Basketball has expanded and has become a global phenomenon allowing fans to interact with athletes and change the way fans watch basketball through social media. Being a basketball fan where you could only watch your favorite teams games on television and listen on the radio to now being able to stream live games online with your laptop, phone, tablet, etc. There was a time players could only show their personalities by interviews and newspaper but with social media exposure, fans get to see their favorite basketball in another way from just seeing them on the court. In a way, fans feel more attached to a player having to interact with a certain player on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram rather then just reading about them, they get a first hand experience. Part 2 Review Of Literature NBA fan culture and its interactions with players have revolutionized the league over the years. Fans only had the ability to either watch on TV or go see the game but now with Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts, there s a whole new way for fans to interact with athletes and stay connected. A paradigm shift has taken place in the American culture where fans feel a need for instant gratification. Social media now allows fans to fill their need without needing ... Read The Aeneid by Virgil (readings listed in your syllabus) taking careful note the actions of Turnus and discuss the following: The death of Turnus is sudden and shocking. What does the manner of his death indicate about Turnus and what does it show about Aeneas? Is Turnus a hero or a victim? The Aeneidby Virgilis a classic poem that describes the way the Trojans survived after the Greeks invaded and destroyed their hometown, Troy. The Poem explains the Trojans movements and how they found the city of Rome that was ruled by King Latinus at the time. The King at the time was happy to open his arms to the Trojans, as he believed in a prophecy that stated that it was meant to be that his daughter had to get married to a foreigner. It only made sense for the King to welcome the Trojans, as by doing so he would increase the chances of the prophecy being fulfilled. While this was the King s hopes plan s, his wife Amata wanted Lavania to marry the King of Rutilians, Turnus who ruled an ethnic group in Italy. The conflict rose when King Latinus decided to hand his daughter s hand to Aeneas, and Turnus hot tempered as always did not sit quiet and launched an attack against Aeneas, which ended up lead to the death of Turnus. • 41. Why Do Gun Controls Cause Violent Crime controls cause more violent crime, why would many states with the lowest homicide rates also have relatively low gun control laws? There is variably no connection to high gun ownership rates and higher amounts of crime. There are only 6 states in which 50 percent of the household s own firearms that is Alaska, Arkansas, Idaho, Montana, West Virginia and Wyoming. If guncontrol advocates are correct about guns, these states would have much more higher crime rates. Data provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show that 4 of the 6 states ranked in the top half of states having the lowest homicide rates. Two of the states, Idaho and Wyoming are in the top in the top six. Further, many cities with very low legal gun ownership rates and stringent gun control laws, such as Chicago, have extremely high gun related murder rates. Gun control laws also don t prevent mass shootings. An analysis conducted by statistician Leah Libresco shows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This has little hope of working in the United States, though, where most gun owners want to keep their firearms, however even if this were to be effective, how would the government stop newly illegal guns from flooding into the country across America s massive, largely unguarded borders? A study published in 2013 by the Trans Border Institute and Igarape Institute estimates an average of 253,000 firearms cross the U.S. Mexico border every year. Earlier in 2017, the Canadian government reported it believes there are greater than 1 million prohibited guns in its country, and Canadian officials believe most of the firearms were brought there from the United States. These figures prove that without massive border security improvements which, ironically, most gun control advocates oppose there s no way a substantial reduction in guns could ever ... • 43. The Poisoner s Handbook By Deborah Blums Best Selling Book The film that I am reviewing, title The Poisoner s Handbook, is based on Deborah Blums best selling book, of the same title, which reflects on the most notorious cases between the years of 1918 and 1959 that were handled by Charles Norris, the chief medical examiner for New York City, also known and described by his peers as the father of forensic toxicologyin America, and Alexander Oscar Gettler, toxicologist with the Office of Chief Medical Examiner of the City of New York, such as the fatal radium poisoning of the factory workers who contracted radiation poisoning from painting watch dials with self luminous paint at the Orange, New Jersey watch factory around the year 1917 and other cases that involve dangerous poisons, like arsenic, methanol, lead, carbon monoxide, denatured alcohol, radium and thallium. Their renowned work led to tougher regulations by the government and the creation of the Food and Drug Administration. The film depicts how the average American s medicine cabinet, in the early 1900s, was a treasure chest of dangerous poisons that could make you ill, put you in a coma, and even kill you. These poisons were readily found in health tonics, depilatory creams, teething medicine, and cleaning supplies. In the early 1920s, medical examiners and coroners were appointed by the mayor and were responsible for investigating every suspicious death in New York City. The position was a political one and anyone, including musicians, painters, milkmen could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Steven Johnson s Emergence In Emergence, Steven Johnson argues that small scale interactions give way to global behaviors first examining ant colonies, and thereafter analyzing human cells, virtual cities, and real cities. Economic models from the 1990s show that, in the absence of confounding variables, businesses will naturally self organize into evenly spaces clusters. I wonder how physical features like lakes, forests, and mountains impact these models. I also wonder how the organizational structure of a city (grid like versus radial) impacts the locational decisions of businesses. This reading reminded me of a famous economics essay entitled I Pencil. It details the process of creating a traditional wooden pencil, starting from cedar trees in California and rubber ... • 45. Examples Of Knowledge Is Innate Knowledge is innate. That according to Plato our knowledge is inborn and I agree on that. Tulad nalang ng isang bagong panganak na sanggol. Why do they have the knowledge to cry in the first place and why do they know how to drink milk. That thing is already knowledge. Everything we do is knowledge because we do that particular thing because we have that knowledge to do it. For an example, some people ask kailan ka natuto kumanta? and they will answer us inborn na to! dahil lahi pala talaga nila ang magagaling kumanta. This knowledge must come from before birth. I honestly agree with Plato, because there are things that it is inborn or innate that everyone has in it, iba iba man pero that thing made us all unique. But suddenly Aristotle contradicts it he said that There is no innate knowledge It s like that our human mind is a tabula rasa a blank slate which experience imprints knowledge.... He wants to know the information that he has set out to gain. Terkel was often able to guide the information he wanted out of Mr. Martinez. Being a gravedigger is a very emotional job or at least it can be and I believe that Terkel does a very good job at getting the gravedigger to tap into that emotion and give us answers that he most likely would not. Like how anyone could be proud of nasty, yellow calluses that make your hands feel like leather or how anyone could hate a machine that s supposed to help you. To most rowing is just another sport, but to people who row it s a key component of their identity. I believe the hardest thing for people to understand about rowingis why anyone would put themselves through intense pain to win a race. Sometimes it s even hard for me to remember why I started rowing in the first place. Then I realize that I don t know what I d do if I didn t row.
