Approaches to Government Control on Expenditure
1.INTRODUCTION Money is central to the functioning of a government, revenue is
generated by the imposition of taxes and the money received is then spent by the
Commonwealth subject to appropriation. The scope of the governments capacity to
spend public moneys has been a controversial issue for many years, due to the
uncertainty surrounding the scope of the spending power. This essay will determine
which approach to Government s control on expenditure is more favourable; the
narrow approach, where Commonwealth s financial expenditure should be limited to
expenses authorised by statute or the wide approach, where the Government should
have unlimited spending power. In order to determine this it is necessary to discuss
the different Court s conclusions and principles that apply in the interpretation of the
relevant sections of the Constitution, specifically the appropriation provisions ss 81
and 83, executive powers provision s 61 and s 96 relating to State grants. This essay
will also evaluate other cases to discuss the effects and developments they have had
on determining the scope of Government s spending power. 2.SCOPE OF SECTION
81 2.1Executive Government s Appropriation Powers Commonwealth Parliament
makes money available to the Executive Government to spend on a range of matters.
An appropriation of money is needed before Parliament can lawfully spend moneys
received. This is usually done through Appropriation Acts and through annual
budgets. Sections 81 and 83
We Propose A Novel Framework For Tweet Segmentation
Abstract Twitter has become one of the most important communication channels with
its ability providing the most up to date and newsworthy information. Considering
wide use of twitter as the source of information, reaching an interesting tweet for user
among a bunch of tweets is challenging. A huge amount of tweets sent per day by
hundred millions of users, information overload is inevitable. For extracting
information in large volume of tweets, Named Entity Recognition (NER), methods on
formal texts. However, many applications in Information Retrieval (IR) and Natural
Language Processing(NLP) suffer severely from the noisy and short nature of
tweets. In this paper, we propose a novel framework for tweet segmentation in a
batch mode, called HybridSeg by splitting tweets into meaningful segments, the
semantic or context information is well preserved and easily extracted by the
downstream applications. HybridSeg finds the optimal segmentation of a tweet by
maximizing the sum of the stickiness scores of its candidate segments. The
stickiness score considers the probability of a segment being a phrase in English
(i.e., global context) and the probability of a segment being a phrase within the
batch of tweets (i.e., local context). For the latter, we propose and evaluate two
models to derive local context by considering the linguistic features and term
dependency in a batch of tweets, respectively. HybridSeg is also designed to
iteratively learn from confident segments as pseudo
White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest By Donald
Trump
Donald Trump s run for presidency brings faithful supporters, angry critics, and a
plethora of headlines. Supportive followers ignore the plentiful reasons that deem
Trump unfit for presidency. For example, on several occasions comments and
statements made by Trump paint him as sexist and racist. In addition, Trump shares
similarities with Adolf Hitler, an unsettling realization. However, those who support
Donald Trumpargue that his economic experience as well as his honesty outweigh the
long list of his faults.
America, a country considered a melting pot, requires a president capable of
accepting those of different races and religions. Donald Trump s openly racist
remarks disqualify him from holding presidency. In a speech, Trump made the
assertion that all Muslim people should be barred from entering the U.S. (Pulliman
Moore). In response, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest stated What Donald
Trump said yesterday disqualifies him from serving as president (Pulliman Moore). In
addition, House Speaker Paul Ryan insisted that religious freedom was a fundamental
Constitutional principle (Pulliman Moore). Trump clearly crossed the line with his
comment. Displaying islamophobia violates the right of religious freedom, as granted
by the First Amendment. Presidential obligations include respecting and upholding
the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and Trump proves incapable of carrying out
that responsibility.
In addition to racism, Trump proves sexist as
Tibet Research Paper
Today, Tibet looks more like China because of increasing number of Chinese
residents, Chinese letters on the street, and even Chinese schools are getting popular
due to better opportunities for children after school. One way in which China is
infiltrating in Tibet is through investment in infrastructure projects and economic
development that bring thousands and thousands of workers of Han Chinesedescends.
For example, from the 1950s to 1999, over 200,000 Han workers have migrated to
Tibetto work on infrastructure projects (Hessler, 1999). Some people fear that Tibet
will become just like the Inner Mongolia where Mongolians are the minority to
Chinese people. If we ask a random Chinese person on the street about Tibet, that
person is likely to say that Tibet is a part of China. Likewise, according to Liang
Xiangming who is a researcher in Beijing stated that The dialogue between Dalai and
the central government is not a dialogue between two... Show more content on

Also, it is important to note that Tibet is now declared as a national important core
interest , therefore, the particular political agenda has taken a giant momentum. For
example, between 2005 and 2008, he met with twenty one national leaders; in 2009,
that count dropped to two (Osnos, 2010). In other words, the world is now at the
height of its globalization and the main actor is China. In fact, China has the second
biggest economy after the United States, China is the larger exporter and second
larger importer of goods and China is the second largest investor and receiver of
foreign direct investment (Eckart, 2016). This means that countries are now heavily
dependent on Chinese exports and imports to sustain their economy leaving them no
choice but to follow what China wants to

Stable Phenotypic Traits
Stable Phenotypic traits For fruitful purpose , the phenotypic traits caused by RNA
silencing must be stably transmitted from one generation to next. Earlier work on
suppressing flower colour biosynthesis by antisense or sense transgenes was not
always uniform which raised uncertainty about the relevancy of the technology
(Tanaka and Mason, 2003). Afterward, the phenotypic results from IR proved more
efficacious and stable than induced by antisense or sense (Nakamura et al., 2006).
The use of IR, which avoid the step of dsRNA synthesis by the RDR, become
visible to result in silencing that is not only more competent but also more stable.
Prolonged heritage studies of RNA silencing in different commercial programs are
underway. In our lab, the phenotypes of analogous single copy transgenic corn lines
produced by the RNA silencing of endogenous LKR/SDH or zein genes (Huang et
al., 2006b; Houmard et al., 2007) have been stably retained for more than seven
traits. Transgenic soybean lines with their FAD2 1 minify by an IR transgene (S.
Ivashuta et al. Manuscript in preparation) are now germinating in their tenth field
grown generation. Possibly, the best example of RNA silencing stability is the rice
mutant, LGC 1, (Kusaba et al., 2003). Feasible/potential benefit of RNA silencing for
plant biotechnology Despite the fact most biotech plants currently grown
commercially were cultivated by the expression of transgenes, different employing

Sucrose And Glucose Research
What is sucrose and glucose and what is the difference between them anyways?
Anything that ends in the suffix ose usually deals with sugar. Well, sucrose is most
commonly known as table sugar, which is the stuff you add to food to make them
have a sweeter taste. It is made by the bond of alpha D glucoseand beta D fructose;
when they are split by the hydrolysis reaction ( vital role in the breakdown of food
into easily absorbed materials ) glucose and fructose is made. (H.) Glucose is the
basic sugarthat gives the body its energy. Although each sugar has the same amount
of calories, eating too much of either one can result in weight gain and high blood
sugar levels. Since I will be using four different drinks to conduct my experiment, I
decided that I needed to know some information about them! Specifically how
much sugar is inside of the average bottle or can. In a regular 20 ounce bottle of Coca
Cola there is 65 grams of sugar within the substance. In an 8.3oz can of Red Bull
there is approximately 27 grams of sugar. A 16oz of Sunny D is about 48 grams. A
20oz bottle of Gatorade contains 34 grams of sugar.... Show more content on

Hyperglycemia is having an abnormally high blood glucose or sugar level .
(MedicineNet) The major symptoms of Hyperglycemia are having increased thirst,
frequent urination, and diabetes. What is Diabetes anyways? Diabetes is a chronic
condition in which the body produces too little insulin or can t use the available
insulin efficiently. (Outsmart Diabetes) Type 2 Diabetes (also known as insulin
resistance) is the most common type out of them all. Although there is no cure for
Type 2 Diabetes, it can be managed by taking oral medicine, eating healthy, and
The Issue Of The Homosexual Movement
If you ve been watching the headlines over the last couple years (and especially the
last few days), you have undoubtedly noticed the incredible surge of interest in
affirming homosexuality. Whether it s at the heart of a religious scandal, political
corruption, radical legislation, or the redefinition of marriage, homosexual interests
have come to characterize America.
That s an indication of the success of the homosexual agenda. And some Christians,
including some national church leaders, have wavered on the issue even recently.
But sadly, when people refuse to acknowledge the sinfulness of homosexuality
calling evil good and good evil (Isa 5:20) they do so at the expense of many souls.
How should you respond to the success of the homosexual movement? Should you
accept the recent trend toward tolerance? Or should you side with those who exclude
homosexuals with hostility and disdain?
In reality, the Bible calls for a balance between what some people think are two
opposing reactions condemnation and compassion. Really, the two together are
essential elements of biblical love, and that s something the homosexual sinner
desperately needs.
Homosexual advocates have been remarkably effective in selling their warped
interpretations of passages in Scripture that address homosexuality. When you ask a
homosexual what the Bible says about homosexuality and many of them know they
have digested an interpretation that is not only warped, but also completely irrational.
How My Faith Changed My Life
Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps
covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to
a thousand generations (Deuteronomy 7:9). Through all generations of my family
leading up to today, my family, on my mother and father s sides, all practice the same
faith. All of my family is Catholic, most of my friends growing up were catholic,
and everywhere I looked, my faith was an important part of my life. I went to
private school for nine years; the same one many of my cousins and my siblings
attended. All of the people around me when I was a child prayed and worshiped like
I was taught to do. They were the ones that influenced me to go deeper into my faith.
Through the daily religionclasses and weekly masses, to the teachers and priest that
influenced my morals and values, I look back on those days as times I cherish. I had
learned to open my heart and let others in to take a part in my life. I set boundaries
for myself to be a respectful person and keep my faith. And most importantly, I am a
life worth living as we are all made from the same image of God. Private school is the
reason I am the person I have grown to be today and I will become tomorrow.
In the beginning of my personal journey, I had to learn to open up to the world
around me and accept everyone for who they were and what they believe in. My
limits have been tested over the years with people I thought were closest to me. With

Racism During The United States
Racism in the United States Whites seemingly have always thought they were
somehow superior to colored people. Whites in England conquered half the world
just to show how powerful they were. Spaniards used Native Americans as slaves to
mine gold in the early days of Mexico. America relied on slaves to farm for them or
perform household chores. After slavery was abolished in most countries, racism
prevailed. In the United Stateswhites established the Separate but Equal idea. For
example, whites may have had a very nice drinking fountain, next to it there would
be a black drinking fountain that barely worked. Even today, racism can be seen
everyday. White kids teasing colored kids. A white man getting hired at a workplace
before a black... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Americans should also understand where racism can be seen and how degrading and
terrible it is. In the United States, racism is displayed every night on the news, at
school, in the workplace and in the criminal justice system. As stated by Attorney
General Eric Holder, (while speaking about current law)...while well intentioned and
aimed at promoting school safety, affect black males at a rate three times higher than
their white peers. African Americans get in trouble at school much more often than
whites and other races, possibly because blacks are watched more carefully or
because teachers and other school staff hold different standards for African
Americans and whites. Holder also mentioned a US sentencing commission s study
where black men received prison terms which were 20% longer than those placed on
white men when committing similar crimes (Johnson). This means that blacks were
treated unfairly in the court system and receiving longer and harder consequences for
committing the same crimes as white men. According to Linn Washington, a writer
for the Philadelphia Tribune, the Supreme Court still engages in `diabolical shams .
She goes on to explain how the justices are hypocrites when it comes to affirmative
action by continuously denying students from being part of the program. She claims
that most justices rarely select blacks, hispanics or asians (Washington). Many of the
Editing Human Embryos
Seven years ago, Jessica was engaged to her boyfriend of six years. Jessica found out
she was pregnant with her first child. Eight months pass and Jessica is going through
the monthly scans and tests, but the doctor informs that her child has a gene that will
give the child Huntington s disease. Huntington s diseasecauses the nerve cells to
break down which can lead to the face being disarranged and slower motor skills.
The editing of DNA in embryos could have saved Jessica s child, so should editing
in human embryos be allowed? The editing of DNA in human embryos is when
scientists go into genome and delete or write out certain genes. The indicated
process is done so the embryos can be born without genetic disorders. Scientists
should be allowed to change the DNA of human embryos because it can prevent
genetic disorders, help in vitro pregnency, and save potential lives. One reason it
should be allowed is it can prevent genetic diseases. For example, Fredrik Lanner,
the lead scientist on the DNA editing in Sweden states, if we can understand the early
cells of this embryoit will help us prevent diseases like Parkinson s or other genetic
diseases (Lanner). This quote shows the scientific... Show more content on

John Harris an author writing about gene editing expresses that the procedure can
provide more benefit than harm. John illustrates in the article, yes, their are issues
with the process, but the amount of breakthrough that can be achieved s able to have
the issues be overlooked (Harris). Even though there are issues with the
experimentation the scientific advancement this can provide will help change the
future. When the gene editing is finally complete and mastered by the bio
technicians, it can help save lives. Even with the risks presented the scientific
community is leaning in favor for the process, because of the long term benefits it can

The aim of this assignment is to describe, analyze and reflect a specific scenario
throughout my time in special care baby unit (SCBU)..
The concept of reflective practice, popularized by Schön s (1983) work, has been
applied in nursing for various purposes, including as a way to narrow the gap
between theory and practice in clinical practice(Clarke, 1986) and a way to
discover knowledge embedded in practice (Benner at al. 1996). Reflection, or
thinking about our experiences, is the key to learning. Reflection allows us to
analyze our experiences, make changes based on our mistakes, keep doing what is
successful, and build upon or modify past knowledge based on new knowledge.

According to Thomas (1994), temperature control or thermoregulation in the neonate
is a critical physiological function that is strongly influenced by physical immaturity,
extent of illness and environmental factors.
St GeorgeВґs Hospital guidelines suggest that the acceptable range for axial
temperature is 36.6 37.2В°C. This range should be maintained at all times to allow
normal physiological function and body metabolism. The nursing diagnosis of
hypothermia is the state in which an individual s body temperature is reduced below
normal range (Wilkinson, 2000, p. 205).
Term and specially pre term infants are more susceptible to become cold and
hypothermic. They have a higher body surface area to body mass ratio, higher
metabolic rate with limited stores of metabolic substrates, and limited and immature
thermoregulatory behaviors, including a poorly developed shivering response
(Hackman, 2001)

Abolitionist Movement
After America was founded in 1776 many people decided to colonize and live in
this unfamiliar land. The land already had their own natives, but most of the travelers
that colonized there did not respect or care about them or their land. The people
wanted to make this land their property and country. To have a strong country people
needed power and one thing that made that power more accessible was enslaving the
natives and making them their property. Enslaving natives later become part of their
culture and it later spread to enslaving African Americans. African Americans were
seen as people that were stronger and more hard working than the Native Americans.
This led to African Americans getting captured and being sent to America to work....

students pertaining to the student body. Therefore, the next stage consists in

different publics. The first and primary publics are the officers and senators of the
association, whereas the second publics consist of the rest of the student body at the

second public is that senators and officers work as the intermediary between the
student body and the Board of Trustee and President. Nonetheless, both persona

interest in the different school related affairs. These types of students do not sit back
and blindly accept the changes made on campus, but actively take part in the
decisions making role. Although the final decisions or outcomes might not always

Raism Needs To Stop Now Analysis
raism needs to stop now!
Martin Luther King Jr. was an amazing man, when he was giving the I Have a
Dream speech he acknowledged about how everyone should receive getting
treated exactly the same, along with having the same rights. He also protested
about how blacks live matter. He was a very powerful man to tell everyone what
he feels is right, how blacks are people too, and should have the same privileges as
all Americans do. I agree with him because everyone was created by God and no
one is more privileged than others, so racism should stop know by the help of all of
humanity working together. One situation that needs to happen to stop racism is
to compose that everyone else is treated equally( I have dream) . One element that
will occur if we are all treated the same is the African Americans can t gain
madness over what is said to them. When we are talking to them, we won t be
talking meanly but we will be talking nicely also they will be shocked about how
nice we are being towards them. Another concept is our actions won t build down

My Choice For A Space
Tomkins Park, my choice for a space which encapsulates both the ideas of diversity
and how that urban form and constrains a certain group was challenging to decide
upon, both on the side how that space affects a particular group such as women,
and how such a space may change, becoming more accepting of that group. I chose a
space, which was seemingly public and has a great level of diversity of who uses this
public space. I decided to partake in an observational study of Tomkins Park, located
in Calgary s Beltline neighbourhood of 17th Avenue. A relatively small public space,
which straddles several busy roads and businesses. My reasoning for choosing this
space was the amenities Tomkins Park offers, a public restroom, free to make use of...

Arnold Schwarzenegger Research Paper
Arnold Schwarzenegger and the American Dream
America is a place where you can make your hopes and dreams come true. Millions
of immigrants travel from many different countries in hopes they will be able to
change their lives and live the so called American Dream. The American Dream is
when you fulfill your own personal expectations of what you want to do in life and
the journey building up to it. One of the world s most famous bodybuilders, Arnold
Schwarzenegger, was born in Thal, Austria in 1947 and portrays an example of the
American Dream. Arnold went from rags to riches in short amount of time. He

gangly, seemingly less athletic younger son (Arnold Schwarzenegger first). There
has been numerous reports that Arnold s father abused Arnold physically and
mentally. Gustav crushed Arnold s dream of becoming a bodybuilder when he

aboriginals were cruelly treated and the western people tried to assimilate their

the Eskimos thought that the white culturewas superior and many had already

how accepting the Eskimos were to the close proximity of the whites. In page 6,
the author writes, Nowadays they wore short dresses of flowered cotton, over

Pop Book Critique
Imagine if you just meet an ex NFL player in the park and he becomes your best
friend how would you feel? I read a great book wrote by Gordan korman called
Pop. This book was action packed and was very interesting which caught the eye of
me and the interest of me. The book Pop caught my attention and my interest right
from the hook in the beginning of the book. This book is about Marcus Jordan who
just moved to the town and he wants to play football for the highschool and he meets
this guy named Charlie and he knows nothing about him and he is and ex NFL player
and the protagonist in the story Marcus Jordan starts running some pass patterns with
Charlie as they just met each other. Marcus Jordan wants to play quarterback at the

Most importantly that is where Charlie and Marcus met witch if they never met at

high school in this book is where Marcus went and he played football there that is
where have the story takes place. The two main settings in this book impacted the
story a lot and this is how Charlie and Marcus were together and stuck their necks
out for each other. But i would say the most important setting is the park that where

Power And Dominance In The Coquette By Hannah W.
Foster
The idea of marriage is praised in all the in last few stories we have read. Marriage
or domesticated relationships are held to a very high status back then in Victorian
times and even now with some people today. In The Coquette written by Hannah W.
Foster, marriage played a huge part of the power and dominance in the text. The men
s sexual control from the text used sex and marriagefor their own personal desires
showed power. She was abused and if she would have lived, she would have been
chastised for her actions. In the text, Eliza is supposed to marry Mr. Haly, a man
like her father but he got ill and died. Eliza looked forward to her freedom and
wasn t trying to settle down anytime soon. The people around her thought that when
Mr. Haly died that Eliza got a crazy or buck wild . She finally got her freedom did not
want to become another married womanspoken and falling in the system. The people
around her thought that maybe she was beginning to become coquettish. She met
two men in this story but one, in particular, represents power and dominance. Major
Sanford was the guy that abused her in this story. According to the letter sent to
Charles Deighton from Major Sanford, But I fancy this young lady is a coquette;
and if so, I shall avenge my sex, by retaliating the mischiefs, she mediates against us.

Like women were afraid to be themselves and not be in the institution of marriage.
She stated, Eliza fails and dies at least in part because there is no space in eighteenth
century American culture for a woman who wishes to remain independent. (Davis,

played a magnificent role in the culture and if she did not do what the norm was then

However, there was a significant differentiation between Starbucks and the
independent specialty coffeehouses. The brand image of Starbucks also had some
rough edges. More customers were beginning to agree with the fact the Starbucks
cared primarily about making money and building more stores. Also, despite the high
customer snapshot scores customer satisfaction scores were declining. It was
believed that there was a service gap between Starbucks scores on key attributes and
customer satisfaction. In polls by customers improvements to service, particularly
speed of service, was most mentioned for improvement.
Has the company s service declined or is it simply measuring satisfaction the wrong
way?
Customer behavior and shift in customer base are major factors for this decline in
servive satisfaction. The company didn t follow the changing trend and continued
doing the same things which clearly were not working anymore, leading to
unsatisfied customers. Demographics changes means these people value other
aspects more than others. The behaviour also, as most customers visit the store only 5
times a month.
The overall company service has not necessarily declined. Overall, customers are
pleased with the cleanliness, atmosphere, and product quality. However, wait time is
steadily increasing. This is the main problem. While some people go to Starbucks for
the experience, many people get their coffee and are out the door. Therefore, wait
time is exceedingly

After the success of the first Metal Slug, SNK purchased the company before

what makes this game unique is that it offers players outstanding replay value.
Whether its fighting yetis and zombies while riding on an elephant that blows fire

enormous snails and weird beetles, and diving underwater on a sub and killing giant
crabs. In either case, all the different routes have their own unique flavor, making
players appreciate how much effort Nazca put into the game.
Interestingly, the game borrows from aspects of the levels from unused levels from
Metal Slug X discovered inside the game s debug menu. At the same time, the last

won t spoil that.
Moreover, Metal Slug 3 introduces players to new items, slugs and transformations

Firstly, the game introduces a few new slugs, countless that are exclusive to a certain

Definition Essay On Motherhood
By definition, motherhood or mothering represents the caregiving role and work of
female parents. For women carrying a child in their womb and then giving him or
her birth creates a lifelong bond that cannot be broken. The act of nurturing this little
human being strengthen this bond that is built on unconditional love. The mother s
love begins with the idea of having a child and extends through the further
physiological process of pregnancy, birth, feeding, and care. Further, mother s love
represents woman s feelings that her self love cannot be greater than her love for
her child. So, most of the mothers regard the task of motherhood as an honorable
task. Motherhood becomes a liberating process as it gives mothers the freedom to
love their
Compare And Contrast John Brown And Timothy Mcveigh
Timothy McVeigh committed the most deadly act of domestic terrorism in United
States history. His actions resulted in both outrage and fascination, and lead to
significant inquiry into why he did what he did. Many at the time, already scared by
the rising trends of Jihadist terrorism felt that McVeigh s actions were in large part
something new, something atypical to the American experience. However, such was
not the case. Terrorismhas been prevalent throughout American history and tied to
various trends and movements, including abolitionism. Ultimately John Brown and
Timothy McVeighhave striking similarities, such as the presence of their action
outside of the more established and organized groups of their respective movements
and the media... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although he did not get to see it in his lifetime, John Brown s polarizing effect on
the North and South helped encourage the outbreak of the Civil War, which would
determine once and for all the fate of slavery. This, however, is not the case when it
comes to McVeigh. When the Oklahoma City bombing is discussed, ideas regarding
McVeigh s views were much more likely to be pushed to the side. Some of this could
potentially be a result of attempts of people who could be potentially associated with
McVeigh and his ideals (whether they be right wingers, verterans, etc.) to distance
themselves from the event. This is perhaps best shown through examples of veterans
insisting upon the wretchedness of McVeigh s actions. Such a distancing attempt,
however, was also visible during John Brown s time. As mentioned in Thoreau s
piece, many contemporary abolitionists attempted to distance themselves and their
abolition movement from John Brown. Thus, the distance must result from a
different cause. This cause is most likely the media. Although both John Brown and
Timothy McVeigh had their actions highly publicized, only John Brown s was done
so in the context of the largest movement on people s minds at the time: abolitionism.

The Natural Resource Of Natural Resources
1.1Background and Introduction Over the last decade, the term natural resource
curse has gained importance among resource rich countries; it claims that natural
resource wealth is linked to poor economic growth (Sachs Warner, 2001). In other
words, countries with an abundance of natural resources are less developed and
tend to grow slower than resource poor countries (Sachs Warner, 2001). It may seem
that having plenty of natural resources is a gift, yet the fact is economic growth in
countries like Indonesia and Nigeria do not actually show that the profusion of
natural resources are a blessing (The Economist, 2000). Expectation to have a high
growth economy because of being rich in natural resources has gone. In fact, natural
resources have been causing many major conflicts to those resource rich countries in
terms of economics, international relations, and environment (Ross, 2003). Looking
back on Indonesia s history, Indonesia was colonized by the Dutch for 3.5 centuries,
the reason was simply because Indonesia is rich of natural resources, due to the
limitations of natural resources, especially herbs and spices back in Netherlands
(Cribb, n.d.). During that time the Dutch tried to get the natural resources as much as
they could without considering the welfare of the Indonesian (Cribb, n.d.). Indonesia
had been freed from the Dutch and Japanese, yet, until today after 65 years of
attaining independence, the country has not been able to liberate its people

Summary Of Portia In The Merchant Of Venice
A few times in the play cross dressing is brung about. The women are banned from
performing and instead their parts are played by young boys. The character Portia in
the play stands out as an independent strong willed women. During the trial scene,
Portia disguises herself as a man, along with the character Nerissa, to help Antonio
and to prevent Shylockfrom collecting what is due, a pound of Antonio s flesh. In the
trial scene, Portiaenters the courtroom as a unbiased legal authority, and is quick
about explaining the loopholes in the contract between Antonio and Shylock. One
such loophole is that only a pound of flesh near Antonio s heart may be taken, but
does not allow for his blood to be spilled. During the trial, Portia states, The words
expressly are a pound of flesh. Take then thy bond, take thou thy pound of flesh,
But in the cutting it if thou dost shed One drop of Christian blood, thy lands and
goods Are by the laws of Venice confiscate Unto the state of Venice (Act IV Scene
I, 298 303). Portia is describing the contract and explains that if Antonio s Christian
blood is spilled, then Shylock will lose his land and property. During the trial,
Portia s disguise as Balthasar is very convincing, even to her husband. Portia was
able to relieve Antonio of his debt, but only by cross dressing as a man. The time
setting in The Merchant of Venicegreatly differs from the equality we have between
men and women today. The male characters greatly over number the
The Perception Of A Social Group
The ability to manipulate perception when it comes to social movements or
collective action is key. Not just for those on the outside looking in, but those who
are participating as well. It not only determines what a social group will do to
invoke change, it will also affect how a society will agree or disagree with the
change. This manipulation of perception is best defined as framing, and is more
than just labeling something as good or bad. Pulling from the articles read from this
week the most convincing conceptualization of the term framing was the argument
that it consisted of three elements, with the first being the diagnosis of something
as problematic and need for alteration, followed by a proposed solution that
specifies what needs to be done, and finally a call to rational engagement in
corrective action. (Snow Benford 1988) The first point highlighted the importance
of contention when it comes to collective action. Problems within any given society
are prevalent at all times, however, not until there is a call for a change does
collective action occur. Contention rests in the need for a change, whether or not
opportunity is the catalyst for contention is debatable, however the conceptualizing
of framing laid out by Snow and Benford also brings into question whether or not
collective action is a choice rather than a response. In the each of the three steps
mentioned above there has to be a framing. There has to be a framing of a situation
as problematic and
Globe Theater History
The famous Globe Theater had history behind being built, an amazing structure,
and tons of expenses. The Globe Theater s history behind being built was based off
the period of life that it was built in. After the plague ended in the 1800s, there was
a company of actors known as the Lord Chamberlain s Men who needed a theatre
to perform in. This group is where Shakespeare was first known to be part of.
Many theatres were unable to reopen in England after the plague ended. The group
performed in the Cross Keys Inn for a little while while looking for a theatre but
there were restrictions for performing inside of the city s limits. Shakespeare was
the lead playwright for the group by the time the plans for the Globe came about.
This group of actors were not the only actors that were struggling at the time
because the Theatre, which was a main place for plays to be performed was closed
after the lease for the land had expired and the owner refused to renew the lease.
This sent Cuthbert and Richard Burbage, the sons of the original owner of the
Theater who had died, into an outrage. They decided to build a new playhouse
located in Bankside of London (Wright 71 76). The theater became famous for being
the place where Shakespeare did... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reusing the wood saved money for the Burbages but there was still the cost of
renting or owning the land that the theatre was on. The solution to this problem was
having multiple shares of the land. These shares were bought by Lord Chamberlain s
Men like Shakespeare s father and the Burbage brothers, who now owned the theatre.
Actors owning the theatre that they acted in was something that had never happened
before this time. This gave the theatre an advantage since they could save money by
not having to pay rent. They also did not have to worry about being kicked off the
land because this was the permanent home (Morley

Guisseppe Mazzini was born in piedmont in Genoa; was a son of a doctor and a

In the revolutions of 1820 he became a nationalist.

In 1827 he amalgamated (joined) the Carbonari but was disappointed. In 1830 he

To achieve this he would use Newspaper plots and assassinations.
The secret greeting was what is the time? A time for struggle.
In 1823 he inspired and animated a revolt that failed.
German Italian and polish refugees in Switzerland were supposed to fight a second
revolt. He gambled away the revolution Money and in 1837 he was in London and
wrote 10,000 letters and 100 articles that were signed Emily. Mazzini migrated
towards the Roman republic; he continued writing until his death in 1872.
Philosophy: Mazzini believed in the people, he was against the influence of Austria
and France; was against all the old leaders. Thought Christianity was a worn out
religion, and God should be shown through the people, also he wanted a democratic
republic.
Problems: His writings were too intellectual and idealistic for many people, but
saying this he was a very famed and successful publisher of ideas. He wrote
thousands of letters and endless articles that he smuggled into Italy, these appeared
in his societies newspapers and elsewhere. According to the Historian Dennis mack
smith, Mazzini succeeded in defining the goal and arousing enthusiasm among
practiced soldiers and statesmen . He is therefore important, not so much for what
he did as much for what he did, but for the way he inspired many young radicals in
this period. He gave their Liberalism new favour

An Example Of The Cocktail Party And Inattentional
Blindness
We think important objects and events in our world will automatically grab our
attention, but they often don t, particularly when our attention is focused on
something else. Cocktail Party Effect describes the ability to focus your hearing on
one specific thing even though noise is all around you. It is named such because this
occurs when you are at a party you can focus on the conversation you are having with
the person close to you and can ignore all the other noise and conversation going on
around you. Your brain helps you selectively focus on the person you are talking too
and mutes the other conversation, music, and general noise around you. Whereas, the
failure to notice unexpected objects or events when attentionis focused elsewhere is
now known as inattentional blindness. The interface between attention and
consciousness are examples of the Cocktail party and Inattentional blindness.
Per the website, Psychology.wikia, the cocktail party effectis an example of selective
attention and is the phenomenon of being able to focus one s auditory attention on a
stimulus while filtering out a range of other stimuli, much the same way that a
partygoer can focus on a single conversation in a noisy room. This effect is what
allows most people to tune in to a single voice and tune out all others. It may also
describe a similar phenomenon that occurs when one may immediately detect words
of importance originating from unattended stimuli, for instance hearing one s name in
What Is The Overarching Theory In The Rime Of The
Ancient...
Burke s overarching theory applies in The Rime of the Ancient Mariner as the
Mariner is cursed to tell his tale for what seems to be the rest of time as he states
Since then, at an uncertain hour, / That agony returns: / And till my ghastly tale is
told, / This heart within me burns (582 585). When he tells his tale to the wedding
guest, the bond is created between the two of them that Burke argued was
necessary for an individual to feel the pleasure of the sublime. Therefore, the
Mariner enables the wedding guest in the poem who hears the tale to experience
the delight of emotions as evidenced in the lines He went like one that hath been
stunned, / And is of sense forlorn: / A sadder and a wiser man / He rose the morrow
morn (622 625) and therefore the sublime. This is due to the misfortune in the story
is solely occurring to the Mariner; meanwhile the guest is safe and distanced from its
pain.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to them and all who would try to understand them. Before Australia was colonized by
British settlers, it is estimated that there were about 500 different Aboriginal groups
based on the number of languages spoken (Broome). This number has been
diminished but there are still many different Aboriginal languages spoken today. The
Arrernte people of Northern Australia call Dreaming, Tjukurrpa which could be
translated to see and understand the law (Barret). Dreaming stories are the medium
through which all important knowledge, cultural values, and beliefs are passed on to
later generations. The stories can be expressed verbally, through oral tradition and
songs, through dancing, and painting. It is through Dreaming that Aboriginal peoples
have been able to create and maintain a rich cultural
Lysistrata, By Aristophanes
In the play Lysistrata, Aristophanes imagines the women of Greece fighting for
peace with a very elemental, and essentially feminine, weapon: sexual blackmail. An
Athenian woman named Lysistrata plans to convince women to abstain from sex in
order to end the war between the men of Greece. Lysistrata brings the Spartan and
Theban women into the plan as well. Her idea was to not just starve the Athenian
men of sex, but men on all sides of the conflict. She hoped that this would bring them
to the negotiating table to find a solution for peace between their city states.
Lysistrata is a womanof strong convictions who, being tired of the war, its cost, and
the continued absence of men from the home because of their presence at the front
lines;
The Moral Of Wife Of Bath
Dominant and submissive roles have existed in relationships between men and
women since the dawn of time. Since then, Women have overturned public
oppressions, e.g. working outside the house, voting, and having equal rights to men,
but have yet to establish a non submissive relationship with their male partners. The
moral of Wifeof Bath is the desire women have to have power over their husband
and how this dominance is beneficial for them and through the course of the tale, the
speaker makes an effort to express her views of control in a happy marriage. The
moral of Wife of Bath is that happiness in a relationship is when a womanis able to
have control over her husband against a backdrop of the submissive wives of the
Middle Ages. The prologue portrays a jovial woman who introduces herself and
her beliefs on marriage. She has never been fond of authority and attributes her
expertise in relationships to marriages with five different men. The Wife of Bath s
tale depicts a knight who needs to learn women s greatest desire within a year in
order to avoid beheading. The knight learns that women desire to have the
sovereignty and sit in rule and government above their husbands, and to have their
way in love (Lines 156 8). In the end, the sovereignty the knight gives to his old
wife transforms her into a young woman and, they lived in full joy to the end (Line
325). The tale is not only a reflection of one s interest to dominate a relationship, but
also a need
Gunther Schuller s Music For Brass Ensemble
In the second movement of his Music for Brass Quintet, Gunther Schuller utilizes
unique articulations, rhythmic variance, and different combinations of mutes
resulting in tension built from the swiftly changing textures. Throughout the
movement Schuller takes advantage of brass instruments ability to double and triple
tongue quickly. As seen in measure 3, he sets up the trumpet, horn, and trombone to
tongue at different speeds while raising in dynamic. Due to the similar timbre of these
instruments, the result is an unstable homophonic texture that sounds aggressive.
Schuller then has the instruments jump down to a piano dynamic. This decision is
risky, due to the fact that all of the instruments are entering, and that it will be difficult

The first instance is in measure 46, where all but the horn removes their mutes. While
it would be assumed that the only muted voice would be the foreground of the
section, the opposite is presented here. The horn continues the ostinato figure from
the previous figure. Overall this allows for the rest of the ensemble to act as the solo
voices collectively, and allows the rhythmic variance they have against the horn to
stand out. In measure 68 we see the opposite combination used, where everyone is
muted except for the tuba. This was likely done so that the tuba would have a distinct
difference in color comparatively. This is necessary for its melodic line to cut through
the ensemble. The end of the piece features the only change in the muted horn in the
movement. In measure 73 Schuller marks the horn to play half muted. This technique
results in a hold unstable sound, perfect for summing up the themes of the movement.
In Gunther Schuller s second movement of his Music for Brass Quintet, he utilizes
brass instruments range, articulations, and muting abilities to create an unstable
rhythmically complex piece that still carries a melodic
Rhetorical Devices In Beautiful Boy
Addicted Boy If cocaine were legal, what would the little packages be called?
Sweet N High! Unfortunately, this is an example of what is commonly known as a
crack joke. Drugs are increasingly being misused and abused. Yet, today s youth in
its ignorance takes drugs as a light matter. It is a different story altogether from
someone who has actually used drugs. In Beautiful Boy, journalist David Sheff
recounts his own and his son, Nic s journey of drug abuse. Sheff s memoir is a
haunting experience filled with tears, brawls, and ample amounts of crystal meth. In
Beautiful Boy, Sheff, while applying a casual and conversational style, effectively
uses rhetoric to share his experience with an addicted teen. Beautiful Boy had an...

The reason being was that Sheff s voice constantly changed. When he discussed
statistics, he became impersonal as if he was a reporter. When he reminisced on
Nic s childhood, the tone would drastically shift to chatty. His anecdotes about his
background, his thoughts, and his feelings all made him sound reflective. For
example, he said, I have held back my tears. But now I knew it was time to let
them go (290). With all these different voices, he was able to appeal to many
people. Beautiful Boy was a powerful story that used different aspects of rhetoric to
help establish connections with the audience. Sheff used pathos effectively to the
point that his audience cannot help, but constantly relate to his situation. Like
many parents, Sheff blamed himself for Nic s mistakes. He cannot help but
question his upbringing and decisions. He says, Did I spoil me? Was I too lenient? If
only his mother and I stayed together (145). He also says, If only I had never used
drugs (145). Not only does Sheff battle against his son, he also fought against
remorse. It is in parenthood where he sees repercussions for his previous actions. If
he had not experimented with drugs, he could at least be a decent example for Nic.
Beautiful Boy also used ethos as a way for the audience to get an insight on who
Sheff actually is. He is first, above all, a father. Sheff loves and cares for Nic. He said
he was enraptured by his child when he was born. I willingly forsake sleep
Introduce Artifact Essay
Introduce Artifact Bryant Arnold, an artist for Cartoonaday.com, illustrated how
social media, i.e. Twitter and Facebook, has influenced the Egyptian people. In this
cartoon, the former President of Egypt, Hosni Mubarak, is running away and hiding
behind the military from three Egyptians, two men and one women in traditional
Egyptian dress, who are holding swords that say Facebook and Twitter. During the
Egyptian revolution of 2011, part of the Arab Spring, Egyptianswere able to connect
and coordinate protests through these social media websites due to their common
interest: the distaste of Mubarak and the Egyptian government and its policies. The
swords with Facebook and Twitter on them represents how the Egyptians were able to

Although he survived his attempted assassinations, he still faced a lot of difficulty
being the president as many Egyptians were against his ruling. The Egyptian
Revolution of 2011 began in January consisting of many protests against Mubarak s
regime. Although, he promised to not run in the presidential elections in the
following September, many protesters were still unhappy. As the demonstrations
continued, they became more violent between anti Mubarak and pro Mubarak
supporters, to which on February 10, 2011 Mubarak resigned as president of Egypt
(bibliography.com). The protesters Mubarak is seen running away from in the
cartoon are the protestors of the Egyptian Revolution of 2011. He is shown as
running away since he didn t stand up and fight against the protesters, but took the
easy way out and resigned.
Military protecting Mubarak
Bryant Arnold s political cartoon depicts the Egyptian military as guarding
President Mubarak. Since Mubarak was president of Egypt, he was given the
responsibility of being the supreme commander of the military (Karon). Not only
was Mubarak an eventual military leader, but before he became president he served
several years in the Air Force, with the height of his military career being
Commander of the Air Force. After being elected president, Mubarak then took his
place as the leader of Egypt s military. As the commander of Egypt s military

  • 2. Approaches to Government Control on Expenditure 1.INTRODUCTION Money is central to the functioning of a government, revenue is generated by the imposition of taxes and the money received is then spent by the Commonwealth subject to appropriation. The scope of the governments capacity to spend public moneys has been a controversial issue for many years, due to the uncertainty surrounding the scope of the spending power. This essay will determine which approach to Government s control on expenditure is more favourable; the narrow approach, where Commonwealth s financial expenditure should be limited to expenses authorised by statute or the wide approach, where the Government should have unlimited spending power. In order to determine this it is necessary to discuss the different Court s conclusions and principles that apply in the interpretation of the relevant sections of the Constitution, specifically the appropriation provisions ss 81 and 83, executive powers provision s 61 and s 96 relating to State grants. This essay will also evaluate other cases to discuss the effects and developments they have had on determining the scope of Government s spending power. 2.SCOPE OF SECTION 81 2.1Executive Government s Appropriation Powers Commonwealth Parliament makes money available to the Executive Government to spend on a range of matters. An appropriation of money is needed before Parliament can lawfully spend moneys received. This is usually done through Appropriation Acts and through annual budgets. Sections 81 and 83
  • 3. We Propose A Novel Framework For Tweet Segmentation Abstract Twitter has become one of the most important communication channels with its ability providing the most up to date and newsworthy information. Considering wide use of twitter as the source of information, reaching an interesting tweet for user among a bunch of tweets is challenging. A huge amount of tweets sent per day by hundred millions of users, information overload is inevitable. For extracting information in large volume of tweets, Named Entity Recognition (NER), methods on formal texts. However, many applications in Information Retrieval (IR) and Natural Language Processing(NLP) suffer severely from the noisy and short nature of tweets. In this paper, we propose a novel framework for tweet segmentation in a batch mode, called HybridSeg by splitting tweets into meaningful segments, the semantic or context information is well preserved and easily extracted by the downstream applications. HybridSeg finds the optimal segmentation of a tweet by maximizing the sum of the stickiness scores of its candidate segments. The stickiness score considers the probability of a segment being a phrase in English (i.e., global context) and the probability of a segment being a phrase within the batch of tweets (i.e., local context). For the latter, we propose and evaluate two models to derive local context by considering the linguistic features and term dependency in a batch of tweets, respectively. HybridSeg is also designed to iteratively learn from confident segments as pseudo
  • 4. White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest By Donald Trump Donald Trump s run for presidency brings faithful supporters, angry critics, and a plethora of headlines. Supportive followers ignore the plentiful reasons that deem Trump unfit for presidency. For example, on several occasions comments and statements made by Trump paint him as sexist and racist. In addition, Trump shares similarities with Adolf Hitler, an unsettling realization. However, those who support Donald Trumpargue that his economic experience as well as his honesty outweigh the long list of his faults. America, a country considered a melting pot, requires a president capable of accepting those of different races and religions. Donald Trump s openly racist remarks disqualify him from holding presidency. In a speech, Trump made the assertion that all Muslim people should be barred from entering the U.S. (Pulliman Moore). In response, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest stated What Donald Trump said yesterday disqualifies him from serving as president (Pulliman Moore). In addition, House Speaker Paul Ryan insisted that religious freedom was a fundamental Constitutional principle (Pulliman Moore). Trump clearly crossed the line with his comment. Displaying islamophobia violates the right of religious freedom, as granted by the First Amendment. Presidential obligations include respecting and upholding the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and Trump proves incapable of carrying out that responsibility. In addition to racism, Trump proves sexist as
  • 5. Tibet Research Paper Today, Tibet looks more like China because of increasing number of Chinese residents, Chinese letters on the street, and even Chinese schools are getting popular due to better opportunities for children after school. One way in which China is infiltrating in Tibet is through investment in infrastructure projects and economic development that bring thousands and thousands of workers of Han Chinesedescends. For example, from the 1950s to 1999, over 200,000 Han workers have migrated to Tibetto work on infrastructure projects (Hessler, 1999). Some people fear that Tibet will become just like the Inner Mongolia where Mongolians are the minority to Chinese people. If we ask a random Chinese person on the street about Tibet, that person is likely to say that Tibet is a part of China. Likewise, according to Liang Xiangming who is a researcher in Beijing stated that The dialogue between Dalai and the central government is not a dialogue between two... Also, it is important to note that Tibet is now declared as a national important core interest , therefore, the particular political agenda has taken a giant momentum. For example, between 2005 and 2008, he met with twenty one national leaders; in 2009, that count dropped to two (Osnos, 2010). In other words, the world is now at the height of its globalization and the main actor is China. In fact, China has the second biggest economy after the United States, China is the larger exporter and second larger importer of goods and China is the second largest investor and receiver of foreign direct investment (Eckart, 2016). This means that countries are now heavily dependent on Chinese exports and imports to sustain their economy leaving them no choice but to follow what China wants to

  • 7. Stable Phenotypic Traits Stable Phenotypic traits For fruitful purpose , the phenotypic traits caused by RNA silencing must be stably transmitted from one generation to next. Earlier work on suppressing flower colour biosynthesis by antisense or sense transgenes was not always uniform which raised uncertainty about the relevancy of the technology (Tanaka and Mason, 2003). Afterward, the phenotypic results from IR proved more efficacious and stable than induced by antisense or sense (Nakamura et al., 2006). The use of IR, which avoid the step of dsRNA synthesis by the RDR, become visible to result in silencing that is not only more competent but also more stable. Prolonged heritage studies of RNA silencing in different commercial programs are underway. In our lab, the phenotypes of analogous single copy transgenic corn lines produced by the RNA silencing of endogenous LKR/SDH or zein genes (Huang et al., 2006b; Houmard et al., 2007) have been stably retained for more than seven traits. Transgenic soybean lines with their FAD2 1 minify by an IR transgene (S. Ivashuta et al. Manuscript in preparation) are now germinating in their tenth field grown generation. Possibly, the best example of RNA silencing stability is the rice mutant, LGC 1, (Kusaba et al., 2003). Feasible/potential benefit of RNA silencing for plant biotechnology Despite the fact most biotech plants currently grown commercially were cultivated by the expression of transgenes, different employing RNA silencing have been recognized by
  • 8. Sucrose And Glucose Research What is sucrose and glucose and what is the difference between them anyways? Anything that ends in the suffix ose usually deals with sugar. Well, sucrose is most commonly known as table sugar, which is the stuff you add to food to make them have a sweeter taste. It is made by the bond of alpha D glucoseand beta D fructose; when they are split by the hydrolysis reaction ( vital role in the breakdown of food into easily absorbed materials ) glucose and fructose is made. (H.) Glucose is the basic sugarthat gives the body its energy. Although each sugar has the same amount of calories, eating too much of either one can result in weight gain and high blood sugar levels. Since I will be using four different drinks to conduct my experiment, I decided that I needed to know some information about them! Specifically how much sugar is inside of the average bottle or can. In a regular 20 ounce bottle of Coca Cola there is 65 grams of sugar within the substance. In an 8.3oz can of Red Bull there is approximately 27 grams of sugar. A 16oz of Sunny D is about 48 grams. A 20oz bottle of Gatorade contains 34 grams of sugar.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hyperglycemia is having an abnormally high blood glucose or sugar level . (MedicineNet) The major symptoms of Hyperglycemia are having increased thirst, frequent urination, and diabetes. What is Diabetes anyways? Diabetes is a chronic condition in which the body produces too little insulin or can t use the available insulin efficiently. (Outsmart Diabetes) Type 2 Diabetes (also known as insulin resistance) is the most common type out of them all. Although there is no cure for Type 2 Diabetes, it can be managed by taking oral medicine, eating healthy, and
  • 9. The Issue Of The Homosexual Movement If you ve been watching the headlines over the last couple years (and especially the last few days), you have undoubtedly noticed the incredible surge of interest in affirming homosexuality. Whether it s at the heart of a religious scandal, political corruption, radical legislation, or the redefinition of marriage, homosexual interests have come to characterize America. That s an indication of the success of the homosexual agenda. And some Christians, including some national church leaders, have wavered on the issue even recently. But sadly, when people refuse to acknowledge the sinfulness of homosexuality calling evil good and good evil (Isa 5:20) they do so at the expense of many souls. How should you respond to the success of the homosexual movement? Should you accept the recent trend toward tolerance? Or should you side with those who exclude homosexuals with hostility and disdain? In reality, the Bible calls for a balance between what some people think are two opposing reactions condemnation and compassion. Really, the two together are essential elements of biblical love, and that s something the homosexual sinner desperately needs. Homosexual advocates have been remarkably effective in selling their warped interpretations of passages in Scripture that address homosexuality. When you ask a homosexual what the Bible says about homosexuality and many of them know they have digested an interpretation that is not only warped, but also completely irrational.
  • 10. How My Faith Changed My Life Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations (Deuteronomy 7:9). Through all generations of my family leading up to today, my family, on my mother and father s sides, all practice the same faith. All of my family is Catholic, most of my friends growing up were catholic, and everywhere I looked, my faith was an important part of my life. I went to private school for nine years; the same one many of my cousins and my siblings attended. All of the people around me when I was a child prayed and worshiped like I was taught to do. They were the ones that influenced me to go deeper into my faith. Through the daily religionclasses and weekly masses, to the teachers and priest that influenced my morals and values, I look back on those days as times I cherish. I had learned to open my heart and let others in to take a part in my life. I set boundaries for myself to be a respectful person and keep my faith. And most importantly, I am a life worth living as we are all made from the same image of God. Private school is the reason I am the person I have grown to be today and I will become tomorrow. In the beginning of my personal journey, I had to learn to open up to the world around me and accept everyone for who they were and what they believe in. My limits have been tested over the years with people I thought were closest to me. With constant
  • 11. Racism During The United States Racism in the United States Whites seemingly have always thought they were somehow superior to colored people. Whites in England conquered half the world just to show how powerful they were. Spaniards used Native Americans as slaves to mine gold in the early days of Mexico. America relied on slaves to farm for them or perform household chores. After slavery was abolished in most countries, racism prevailed. In the United Stateswhites established the Separate but Equal idea. For example, whites may have had a very nice drinking fountain, next to it there would be a black drinking fountain that barely worked. Even today, racism can be seen everyday. White kids teasing colored kids. A white man getting hired at a workplace before a black... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Americans should also understand where racism can be seen and how degrading and terrible it is. In the United States, racism is displayed every night on the news, at school, in the workplace and in the criminal justice system. As stated by Attorney General Eric Holder, (while speaking about current law)...while well intentioned and aimed at promoting school safety, affect black males at a rate three times higher than their white peers. African Americans get in trouble at school much more often than whites and other races, possibly because blacks are watched more carefully or because teachers and other school staff hold different standards for African Americans and whites. Holder also mentioned a US sentencing commission s study where black men received prison terms which were 20% longer than those placed on white men when committing similar crimes (Johnson). This means that blacks were treated unfairly in the court system and receiving longer and harder consequences for committing the same crimes as white men. According to Linn Washington, a writer for the Philadelphia Tribune, the Supreme Court still engages in `diabolical shams . She goes on to explain how the justices are hypocrites when it comes to affirmative action by continuously denying students from being part of the program. She claims that most justices rarely select blacks, hispanics or asians (Washington). Many of the
  • 12. Editing Human Embryos Seven years ago, Jessica was engaged to her boyfriend of six years. Jessica found out she was pregnant with her first child. Eight months pass and Jessica is going through the monthly scans and tests, but the doctor informs that her child has a gene that will give the child Huntington s disease. Huntington s diseasecauses the nerve cells to break down which can lead to the face being disarranged and slower motor skills. The editing of DNA in embryos could have saved Jessica s child, so should editing in human embryos be allowed? The editing of DNA in human embryos is when scientists go into genome and delete or write out certain genes. The indicated process is done so the embryos can be born without genetic disorders. Scientists should be allowed to change the DNA of human embryos because it can prevent genetic disorders, help in vitro pregnency, and save potential lives. One reason it should be allowed is it can prevent genetic diseases. For example, Fredrik Lanner, the lead scientist on the DNA editing in Sweden states, if we can understand the early cells of this embryoit will help us prevent diseases like Parkinson s or other genetic diseases (Lanner). This quote shows the scientific... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... John Harris an author writing about gene editing expresses that the procedure can provide more benefit than harm. John illustrates in the article, yes, their are issues with the process, but the amount of breakthrough that can be achieved s able to have the issues be overlooked (Harris). Even though there are issues with the experimentation the scientific advancement this can provide will help change the future. When the gene editing is finally complete and mastered by the bio technicians, it can help save lives. Even with the risks presented the scientific community is leaning in favor for the process, because of the long term benefits it can
  • 13. Special Care Baby Unit ( Scbu ) The aim of this assignment is to describe, analyze and reflect a specific scenario throughout my time in special care baby unit (SCBU).. The concept of reflective practice, popularized by SchГ¶n s (1983) work, has been applied in nursing for various purposes, including as a way to narrow the gap between theory and practice in clinical practice(Clarke, 1986) and a way to discover knowledge embedded in practice (Benner at al. 1996). Reflection, or thinking about our experiences, is the key to learning. Reflection allows us to analyze our experiences, make changes based on our mistakes, keep doing what is successful, and build upon or modify past knowledge based on new knowledge. Despite of baby was less than 1.5kg, medical team was agree to transfer the patient in to a cot due temperature was very stabilized. The last incubator temperature registered was 29ВєC. So what According to Thomas (1994), temperature control or thermoregulation in the neonate is a critical physiological function that is strongly influenced by physical immaturity, extent of illness and environmental factors. St GeorgeВґs Hospital guidelines suggest that the acceptable range for axial temperature is 36.6 37.2В°C. This range should be maintained at all times to allow normal physiological function and body metabolism. The nursing diagnosis of hypothermia is the state in which an individual s body temperature is reduced below normal range (Wilkinson, 2000, p. 205). Term and specially pre term infants are more susceptible to become cold and hypothermic. They have a higher body surface area to body mass ratio, higher metabolic rate with limited stores of metabolic substrates, and limited and immature thermoregulatory behaviors, including a poorly developed shivering response (Hackman, 2001) It is essential that neonates are

The land already had their own natives, but most of the travelers that colonized there did not respect or care about them or their land. The people wanted to make this land their property and country. To have a strong country people needed power and one thing that made that power more accessible was enslaving the natives and making them their property. Enslaving natives later become part of their culture and it later spread to enslaving African Americans. My Choice For A Space Tomkins Park, my choice for a space which encapsulates both the ideas of diversity and how that urban form and constrains a certain group was challenging to decide upon, both on the side how that space affects a particular group such as women, and how such a space may change, becoming more accepting of that group. I chose a space, which was seemingly public and has a great level of diversity of who uses this public space. I decided to partake in an observational study of Tomkins Park, located in Calgary s Beltline neighbourhood of 17th Avenue. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although he did not get to see it in his lifetime, John Brown s polarizing effect on the North and South helped encourage the outbreak of the Civil War, which would determine once and for all the fate of slavery. This, however, is not the case when it comes to McVeigh. When the Oklahoma City bombing is discussed, ideas regarding McVeigh s views were much more likely to be pushed to the side. Some of this could potentially be a result of attempts of people who could be potentially associated with McVeigh and his ideals (whether they be right wingers, verterans, etc.) to distance themselves from the event. This is perhaps best shown through examples of veterans insisting upon the wretchedness of McVeigh s actions. Such a distancing attempt, however, was also visible during John Brown s time. As mentioned in Thoreau s piece, many contemporary abolitionists attempted to distance themselves and their abolition movement from John Brown. Thus, the distance must result from a different cause. This cause is most likely the media. Although both John Brown and Timothy McVeigh had their actions highly publicized, only John Brown s was done so in the context of the largest movement on people s minds at the time: abolitionism. • 31. The Natural Resource Of Natural Resources 1.1Background and Introduction Over the last decade, the term natural resource curse has gained importance among resource rich countries; it claims that natural resource wealth is linked to poor economic growth (Sachs Warner, 2001). In other words, countries with an abundance of natural resources are less developed and tend to grow slower than resource poor countries (Sachs Warner, 2001). It may seem that having plenty of natural resources is a gift, yet the fact is economic growth in countries like Indonesia and Nigeria do not actually show that the profusion of natural resources are a blessing (The Economist, 2000). Expectation to have a high growth economy because of being rich in natural resources has gone. In fact, natural resources have been causing many major conflicts to those resource rich countries in terms of economics, international relations, and environment (Ross, 2003). Looking back on Indonesia s history, Indonesia was colonized by the Dutch for 3.5 centuries, the reason was simply because Indonesia is rich of natural resources, due to the limitations of natural resources, especially herbs and spices back in Netherlands (Cribb, n.d.). During that time the Dutch tried to get the natural resources as much as they could without considering the welfare of the Indonesian (Cribb, n.d.). Indonesia had been freed from the Dutch and Japanese, yet, until today after 65 years of attaining independence, the country has not been able to liberate its people

Not just for those on the outside looking in, but those who are participating as well. It not only determines what a social group will do to invoke change, it will also affect how a society will agree or disagree with the change. This manipulation of perception is best defined as framing, and is more than just labeling something as good or bad. Pulling from the articles read from this week the most convincing conceptualization of the term framing was the argument that it consisted of three elements, with the first being the diagnosis of something as problematic and need for alteration, followed by a proposed solution that specifies what needs to be done, and finally a call to rational engagement in corrective action. (Snow Benford 1988) The first point highlighted the importance of contention when it comes to collective action. Problems within any given society are prevalent at all times, however, not until there is a call for a change does collective action occur. Contention rests in the need for a change, whether or not opportunity is the catalyst for contention is debatable, however the conceptualizing of framing laid out by Snow and Benford also brings into question whether or not collective action is a choice rather than a response. In the each of the three steps mentioned above there has to be a framing. There has to be a framing of a situation as problematic and

Reusing the wood saved money for the Burbages but there was still the cost of renting or owning the land that the theatre was on. The solution to this problem was having multiple shares of the land. These shares were bought by Lord Chamberlain s Men like Shakespeare s father and the Burbage brothers, who now owned the theatre. Actors owning the theatre that they acted in was something that had never happened before this time. This gave the theatre an advantage since they could save money by not having to pay rent. They also did not have to worry about being kicked off the land because this was the permanent home (Morley

While we have discussed that adaptations come in many forms viewing these three websites catered towards Mary Shelley s works was interesting to say the least. The aspects of the websites that I truly enjoyed ranged from the collection of information to the ease of just being able to access Shelley s work electronically. The websites allowed for a modernized rendition of the somewhat dated material and then some. Looking at the first website titled The Shelley Godwin Archive , which showcased not only Mary Shelley s work but that of Percy s as well. • 39. An Example Of The Cocktail Party And Inattentional Blindness We think important objects and events in our world will automatically grab our attention, but they often don t, particularly when our attention is focused on something else. Cocktail Party Effect describes the ability to focus your hearing on one specific thing even though noise is all around you. It is named such because this occurs when you are at a party you can focus on the conversation you are having with the person close to you and can ignore all the other noise and conversation going on around you. Your brain helps you selectively focus on the person you are talking too and mutes the other conversation, music, and general noise around you. Whereas, the failure to notice unexpected objects or events when attentionis focused elsewhere is now known as inattentional blindness. The interface between attention and consciousness are examples of the Cocktail party and Inattentional blindness. Per the website, Psychology.wikia, the cocktail party effectis an example of selective attention and is the phenomenon of being able to focus one s auditory attention on a stimulus while filtering out a range of other stimuli, much the same way that a partygoer can focus on a single conversation in a noisy room. This effect is what allows most people to tune in to a single voice and tune out all others. It may also describe a similar phenomenon that occurs when one may immediately detect words of importance originating from unattended stimuli, for instance hearing one s name in
  • 40. What Is The Overarching Theory In The Rime Of The Ancient... Burke s overarching theory applies in The Rime of the Ancient Mariner as the Mariner is cursed to tell his tale for what seems to be the rest of time as he states Since then, at an uncertain hour, / That agony returns: / And till my ghastly tale is told, / This heart within me burns (582 585). When he tells his tale to the wedding guest, the bond is created between the two of them that Burke argued was necessary for an individual to feel the pleasure of the sublime. Therefore, the Mariner enables the wedding guest in the poem who hears the tale to experience the delight of emotions as evidenced in the lines He went like one that hath been stunned, / And is of sense forlorn: / A sadder and a wiser man / He rose the morrow morn (622 625) and therefore the sublime. This is due to the misfortune in the story is solely occurring to the Mariner; meanwhile the guest is safe and distanced from its pain.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 41. The Aboriginal People Of The Australian Aboriginal People I.Introduction The Australian aboriginal peoples have the longest continuous cultural history in the world. Archaeological evidence dates their presence in Australia back at least 65,000 years (Barret). Dreaming is the English term for a set of beliefs that are held by the Australian Aboriginal peoples. It is an inadequate term that does nothing to encompass all that it really is. The Dreaming or Dream time deals with the past, present, and future. `There are many different peoples and clans who are labeled Australian Aboriginals. Over time, they have all been lumped together as one people even though they have different beliefs, languages and customs. This is a disservice to them and all who would try to understand them. Before Australia was colonized by British settlers, it is estimated that there were about 500 different Aboriginal groups based on the number of languages spoken (Broome). This number has been diminished but there are still many different Aboriginal languages spoken today. The Arrernte people of Northern Australia call Dreaming, Tjukurrpa which could be translated to see and understand the law (Barret). Dreaming stories are the medium through which all important knowledge, cultural values, and beliefs are passed on to later generations. The stories can be expressed verbally, through oral tradition and songs, through dancing, and painting. It is through Dreaming that Aboriginal peoples have been able to create and maintain a rich cultural

An Athenian woman named Lysistrata plans to convince women to abstain from sex in order to end the war between the men of Greece. Lysistrata brings the Spartan and Theban women into the plan as well. Her idea was to not just starve the Athenian men of sex, but men on all sides of the conflict. She hoped that this would bring them to the negotiating table to find a solution for peace between their city states. Lysistrata is a womanof strong convictions who, being tired of the war, its cost, and the continued absence of men from the home because of their presence at the front lines;
  • 43. The Moral Of Wife Of Bath Dominant and submissive roles have existed in relationships between men and women since the dawn of time. Since then, Women have overturned public oppressions, e.g. working outside the house, voting, and having equal rights to men, but have yet to establish a non submissive relationship with their male partners. The moral of Wifeof Bath is the desire women have to have power over their husband and how this dominance is beneficial for them and through the course of the tale, the speaker makes an effort to express her views of control in a happy marriage. The moral of Wife of Bath is that happiness in a relationship is when a womanis able to have control over her husband against a backdrop of the submissive wives of the Middle Ages. The prologue portrays a jovial woman who introduces herself and her beliefs on marriage. She has never been fond of authority and attributes her expertise in relationships to marriages with five different men. The Wife of Bath s tale depicts a knight who needs to learn women s greatest desire within a year in order to avoid beheading. The knight learns that women desire to have the sovereignty and sit in rule and government above their husbands, and to have their way in love (Lines 156 8). In the end, the sovereignty the knight gives to his old wife transforms her into a young woman and, they lived in full joy to the end (Line 325). • 44. Gunther Schuller s Music For Brass Ensemble In the second movement of his Music for Brass Quintet, Gunther Schuller utilizes unique articulations, rhythmic variance, and different combinations of mutes resulting in tension built from the swiftly changing textures. Throughout the movement Schuller takes advantage of brass instruments ability to double and triple tongue quickly. As seen in measure 3, he sets up the trumpet, horn, and trombone to tongue at different speeds while raising in dynamic. Due to the similar timbre of these instruments, the result is an unstable homophonic texture that sounds aggressive. Schuller then has the instruments jump down to a piano dynamic. This decision is risky, due to the fact that all of the instruments are entering, and that it will be difficult ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first instance is in measure 46, where all but the horn removes their mutes. While it would be assumed that the only muted voice would be the foreground of the section, the opposite is presented here. The horn continues the ostinato figure from the previous figure. Overall this allows for the rest of the ensemble to act as the solo voices collectively, and allows the rhythmic variance they have against the horn to stand out. In measure 68 we see the opposite combination used, where everyone is muted except for the tuba. This was likely done so that the tuba would have a distinct difference in color comparatively. This is necessary for its melodic line to cut through the ensemble. The end of the piece features the only change in the muted horn in the movement. In measure 73 Schuller marks the horn to play half muted. This technique results in a hold unstable sound, perfect for summing up the themes of the movement. In Gunther Schuller s second movement of his Music for Brass Quintet, he utilizes brass instruments range, articulations, and muting abilities to create an unstable rhythmically complex piece that still carries a melodic

Unfortunately, this is an example of what is commonly known as a crack joke. Drugs are increasingly being misused and abused. Yet, today s youth in its ignorance takes drugs as a light matter. It is a different story altogether from someone who has actually used drugs. In Beautiful Boy, journalist David Sheff recounts his own and his son, Nic s journey of drug abuse. Sheff s memoir is a haunting experience filled with tears, brawls, and ample amounts of crystal meth. In Beautiful Boy, Sheff, while applying a casual and conversational style, effectively uses rhetoric to share his experience with an addicted teen. Beautiful Boy had an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason being was that Sheff s voice constantly changed. When he discussed statistics, he became impersonal as if he was a reporter. When he reminisced on Nic s childhood, the tone would drastically shift to chatty. His anecdotes about his background, his thoughts, and his feelings all made him sound reflective. For example, he said, I have held back my tears. But now I knew it was time to let them go (290). With all these different voices, he was able to appeal to many people. Beautiful Boy was a powerful story that used different aspects of rhetoric to help establish connections with the audience. Sheff used pathos effectively to the point that his audience cannot help, but constantly relate to his situation. Like many parents, Sheff blamed himself for Nic s mistakes. He cannot help but question his upbringing and decisions. He says, Did I spoil me? Was I too lenient? If only his mother and I stayed together (145). He also says, If only I had never used drugs (145). Not only does Sheff battle against his son, he also fought against remorse. It is in parenthood where he sees repercussions for his previous actions. If he had not experimented with drugs, he could at least be a decent example for Nic. Beautiful Boy also used ethos as a way for the audience to get an insight on who Sheff actually is. He is first, above all, a father. Sheff loves and cares for Nic. He said he was enraptured by his child when he was born. I willingly forsake sleep
