Impressionism Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of Impressionism can prove to be both a challenging and
rewarding endeavor. The complexity arises not only from the vastness of the topic but also from
the need to delve into the intricacies of an art movement that revolutionized the way we perceive
and appreciate art.
Impressionism, as an art movement, emerged in the late 19th century and brought about a radical
shift in artistic conventions. Its emphasis on capturing the fleeting effects of light, atmosphere,
and movement posed a unique challenge for artists, and attempting to encapsulate the essence of
this movement in written form requires a deep understanding of both art history and the socio-
cultural context of the time.
To write a compelling Impressionism essay, one must navigate through the works of iconic artists
like Monet, Renoir, and Degas, exploring their techniques and motivations. Analyzing the
juxtaposition of traditional academic art with the innovative approaches of the Impressionists
adds another layer of complexity. Describing the significance of this movement in the broader
context of art history and its lasting influence on subsequent generations demands thorough
research and critical thinking.
Furthermore, conveying the sensory experience that defines Impressionist art—how it
transcends visual perception to evoke emotions and impressions—poses a linguistic challenge.
Words may seem inadequate in capturing the essence of brushstrokes, color palettes, and the
overall sensory impact that defines Impressionist masterpieces.
In conclusion, while writing an essay on Impressionism may be a formidable task, the
opportunity to explore and articulate the nuances of this groundbreaking movement is
undoubtedly rewarding. It requires a meticulous blend of historical insight, art analysis, and a
profound appreciation for the transformative power of artistic expression.

Sam, You Are Receiving A Call
Sam, you are receiving a call, noted Dawn, sighing. Sam. Sam, you need to get up
now. Wrapped in all nine of her tails, Sam had no intention of getting up. By far,
her favorite part of Quercasia, at least in the mornings and at night, was how soft
the beds were. For someone who had grown up sleeping on top of stone with a
little hay, the comfort of a bed was a luxury she adored. Nonetheless, her roommate
wasn t all too interested in her stillness. She had a mission, and that mission was to
get her best friend out of bed. Samantha? she asked one more time, If you don t get
out of bed, I will do something you won t like. I ll have you know that I have
discovered how to use the freezer. I will place my horn inside of it,... Show more

After having shoved half of a waffle drowning in maple syrup down her throat, she
said her goodbyes to Dawn and was out of the house. Heading off for the nearby
trolley, she discovered that she was standing in front of the training hall in only a
matter of minutes. Anxiously stepping into the building, she had no idea as to
what would be happening. Other than the fact that Edgar was there, which made
the trip worth it for her, she was totally clueless as to what he was planning.
Needless to say, she stepped into the training hall anyway without a second
thought. Spying around the room, she found Edgar with his sword up, practicing
his thrusts with a dummy. He was able to make ten slices with his cutlass in five
seconds, each slice perfectly straight and parallel to the others. His technique was
so perfect that he may as well have been cutting plaid lines into the thing. S Sallo,
Edgar? called out Sam. Edgar turned out, purring so loudly that it could be heard
from twenty feet away. Miss Sam! he called. You re here! Grinning, she ran up to
him, her tails flowing around like a sea anemone. Once the two finally met, they
embraced each other, happily sighing. Ever since Victor passed away, they had
barely made contact, but all of their worries melted away. It s so good to see you,
Edgar... It s wonderful to see you too, Miss Sam... he
Strange Fruit Ap Language
Billie Holiday s renditions of the poem Strange Fruit is what most listeners will
hear when they search up the song. Her 1956 version of the song has inspired many
artists, such as Cassandra Willson, to make their own rendition of the poem that
created by Abel Meeropol. Both renditions focus on the lynchings in the south, but
how they play it changes the character of the song. The rhythm of this song is what
distinguishes these two renditions the most. In Mrs. Holiday s rendition, her voice
is the rhythmic part of the song since the instruments are not played in a repeated
pattern. The poem is written in an odd number of syllables and she usually sings
and then pauses after saying five syllables. In some stanzas, she sings four syllables
and then holds the last syllable in order to make it sound like five syllables so the
rhythm can still have its structure.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Holiday uses her voice to keep the song in rhythm, Mrs. Willson took an
instrumental approach to keep track of time. A heavy string instrument is used to
keep the flow of the song. Its patterns are usually two, low notes, followed by a
smack of the string instrument s body and then two high notes. She must the must
have made the song s meter into five beats since Ms. Holiday sang the song at a
pattern of five syllables. This is how Mrs. Wilson might have paid homage to Mrs.
Holiday s rendition. Their vocal phrasing is a similarity between the song s
renditions. In both versions, they sing each stanza slowly, their pitch is deep and
stretches their voices when they sing a lyric that will rhythm to a word on the next
stanza. At the end of the stanza, they start to speed up their singing, hit a higher
pitch and stretches the last lyrical syllable a couple of seconds longer. This pattern
is repeated in all of the verses, but the last verse emphasizes more on the higher notes
and stretching the of the last lyrics since they want to make song end on a
Inequity In The Great Gatsby Analysis
While The Great Gatsby might seem like a bright, fast, and brilliant representation
of the jazz age, there is actually injustice lurking within. Inequity means a lack of
fairness or justice, or unfair act. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is about a
pair of lovers, Daisy and Gatsby, who reunite after five years of silence, and learn
that trying to recreate the past comes with bad consequences. George and Myrtle
Wilson are a poor couple in relation to the very wealthy Daisy and Tom. Myrtle is
Tom s mistress, and George fixes Tom s cars for him. George and Myrtle are the
victims of inequity in The Great Gatsbybecause they represent the divide between
the very rich and the very poor in New York, and their places in society and quality of
life.
Myrtle has been affected by both socioeconomic and gender inequity. She is
unhappy being trapped in the lower middle class in the valley of ashes, but she can
not work hard to raise her status because she is a woman. When Myrtle first
married George Wilson, she thought she was marrying a rich man, but she later
realizes that this was a trick and Wilson is very poor: I knew right away I made a
mistake. He borrowed somebody s best suit to get married in, and never even told
me about it, and the man came after it one day when he was out. She looked
around to see who was listening. Oh, is that your suit? I said. This is the first I ever
heard about it. But I gave it to him and then I lay down and cried to beat the band all
Depression As A Chemical Imbalance
Right now, over fourteen and a half million Americans, nearly seven percent of the
population, suffer from Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)(Source 1). The human
brain and its complexities currently make it impossible to quantify the exact way in
which depression arises and affects a person. However, one thing is certain, a lot of
people are sad, and it is getting worse. The rate of depression among high school to
college age students has increased significantly in the U.S. over the past fifty years.
Depression is often described as a chemical imbalance in the brain, which is entirely
correct; however, this is a gross oversimplification of the disease. Neurologists have
identified over one hundred different neurotransmitters, the chemicals... Show more

Additionally, temperament, the way in which an individual views the world and their
unacknowledged assumptions about how it works, also influence mood (Source 11).
Although depression is classified as a mental illness, clinical depression can produce
a host of physical and mental symptoms. Mentally, depression makes a person feel
miserable, hopeless, and as though the smallest tasks are impossible. Previously
enjoyed activities often become uninteresting and anger and stress levels can
skyrocket. Physically, chronic exhaustion sets in and aches and pains can arise which
have no apparent cause (Source 1).
The MMPI test is heavily used in psychiatric and depression research. The MMPI,
Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, is the most widely used psychometric
test for measuring adult psychopathology in the world , and its derivatives, the
updated MMPI 2 and the MMPI A that is used in adolescents, are both widely used
and accepted in the academic and psychiatric communities (Source 4).
An alarming trend has arisen in the past fifty years in America, depression rates have
increased significantly for high school to college students. There is dispute over the
exact magnitude of the increase, with some studies reporting a fifteen to twenty
percent increase in
The Experience Of The Miracle Of Childbirth
Numerous men have probably wondered what it would feel like to be in a woman s
body and experience something men have not experienced such as a childbirth.
Consider undergoing the numerous feelings a woman encounters when discovering
she s pregnant. However, imagining and reading about the structure of something
does not necessarily make it evident, such as; the true excitement, concern and the
thoughts of sickness during the different stages of the pregnancydevelopment. It
would offer several men a sense of the approach and generate wisdom to know how
it feels to experience the miracle of childbirth
The first step a man must consider would be engaging and envision being a
woman visiting the doctor s office for a routine checkup for; abnormal pains,
morning sickness, followed by extreme headaches. While waiting in the
examination room and filling out paperwork her nerves begin to elevate, her
palms sweaty from being unsure what s happing or how serious her condition may
be. After a few minutes the doctor and a nurse walk in asking her a few general
questions concerning her health and last menstrual period. The doctor then orders
a routine blood draw establishing a result of pregnancy. Meanwhile, it becomes
apparent and clear in her mind, she begins to dwell and asking herself, as she
ponders deeply at the circumstances; how would be pregnant affect her life? How
expensive will it be to have a baby now a day? What will her friends say about this
situation? Would

Type 298.0 Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified
Abstract Autism is a complex developmental disability that causes problems with
social interaction and communication. Symptoms usually start before age three and
can cause delays or problems in many different skills that develop from infancy to
adulthood. Disorders included in the Autism Spectrum are Autistic Disorder,
Asperger s Syndrome, and Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise
Specified. Rett s syndrome and Childhood Disintegrative Disorder are among the list
of related disorders, but are not included in this spectrum. There are no treatments bio

Often, certain behaviors become more noticeable when comparing children of the
same age.
In some cases, babies with ASD may seem different very early in their
development. Even before their first birthday, some babies become overly focused
on certain objects, rarely make eye contact, and fail to engage in typical back and
forth play and babbling with their parents. Other children may develop normally until
the second or even third year of life, but then start to lose interest in others and
become silent, withdrawn, or indifferent to social signals. Loss or reversal of normal
development is called regression and occurs in some children with ASD. (National
Institute of Mental Health, 2012). According to the Diagnostic and Statistical manual,
symptoms include making little eye contact, tendency to look and listen less to
people in their environment or failure to respond to other people, do not readily seek
to share their enjoyment of toys or activities by pointing or showing things to others,
responding unusually when others show anger, distress, or affection. Children with
autism spectrum disorders often have difficulty with communication. These
symptoms include, failure or slow to respond to their name or other verbal attempts
to gain their attention, failure or slow to develop gestures, such as pointing and
showing things to others, coo and babble in the first year of life, but then stop doing
so, develop language at a delayed pace, learn to communicate
Karl Popper Science As Falsification Summary
In Karl Popper s paper Science as Falsification , he attempted to explain what
exactly separates hard science from pseudoscience. He came to the conclusion that
all theories which are to be deemed scientific must be falsifiable. In other words, the
theory must have the ability to be tested and proven to be true, and not just deemed
to be true because it happens to be true in some instances. Popper s logic was that the
only reason to test a theorywas to find a way to deem it untrue, and so theories which
are unable to be tested cannot be considered as science. I believe that this was a great
turning point in the history of science because there were many theories which were
considered as scientific because there was no basis of proving them otherwise. Many
people who were studying in certain unfalsifiable... Show more content on

Astronomy is concerned with the study of celestial bodies like planets, stars, comets,
asteroids, moons, etc., the physics of these objects, and their relation to each other.
Almost all information obtained in astronomy is through direct observation and
mathematical calculations. Any astronomical theory can be tested by just looking up
in the sky with a telescope. Further knowledge can be obtained by observing the
relationships between these bodies and using theories from other branches of science
such as physics and chemistry. Astrology, on the other hand, attempts to use the
information observed from celestial bodies, such as the location of the sun, the
moon, stars, and constellations in space, and their alignment relative to each other, to
try to predict and explain things which are happening here on Earth. Astrologers use
things such as the time of one s birth in relation to the position of these objects as a
basis for making predictions about a person s personality traits, things which they
may or may not do, or things which they may
Disney Stock Has Outperformed The S P 500
Disney s stock has outperformed the S P 500 since 2009 and in 2013 they
generated revenues of 45 billion dollars. The company has continues to grow and
over the last 5 10 years have aggressively been pursuing a diversification strategy.
Disney has acquired the rights to Marvel, Pixar, and Playdom, which they believe
will help their brand grow. However, while focusing on developing other aspects of
their company I believe that they have lost track of what made Disney so successful
to begin with animated movies. My recommendation for Disney is put out more then
two animated movies per year, because if these movies are successful it will over
them more opportunities to diversify then any other acquisition.

If that means be continue to acquire outside firms to strengthen the division,
potentially restructuring the division to be more efficient, I think the future if
gaming and customer interaction will come from this division. Not only will
strengthening Interactive Media be great for their division s bottom line, but it
will also grow the value chain for Disney. For example if Disney makes a hit movie
that grosses over a billion dollars worldwide, they could potentially make a video
game off the same movie. This game will most likely generate a lot of revenue
from people wanted to immerse themselves in all things this new movie. Disney
always has done a great job of getting the most out of the products people love, and I

Analysis of A Savage Life Essay
Through the use of anecdotes in the article A Savage Life , Suzanne Winckler
effectively points out that it is important to understand where your food comes from.
Winckler helps convey to readers that while butchering animals is no fun, it is
necessary for the survival of omnivores. She argues that meat eaters are out of touch
with reality; instead of recognizing that an animal must be sacrificed for their meal,
most consumers mindlessly devour the food on their plates without a thoughtof where
their food came from. Winckler states I am too far gone in my rational Western head
to appropriate the ritual of cultures for whom the bloody business of hunting was a
matter of survival (634); in this statement she adequately appeals to logos... Show

Through this proclamation, Winckler successfully appeals to pathos because she
makes it simple for the audience to see the connection between a newborn and a
chicken about to lose its life. Both chickens and newborns are ignorant to the world
and rather helpless comparing a human to the food that one eats helps to put the
killing of a chicken into perspective. Winckler then gruesomely explains what it is
like to behead a chicken; appealing to both pathos and ethos: Headless chickens don
t run around. They thrash with such force and seeming coordination that they
sometimes turn back flips (633). By using imagery to describe this horrific
requirement for killing a chicken, Winckler is seen as a credible and factual source.
After slaying her first chicken, Winckler realized why cultures, ancient and
contemporary, develop elaborate rituals for coping with the grisly experience of
killing any sentient creature (633). She appeals to logos in this quote by informing
readers of the epiphany she came to taking them through her mind s thought process;
this makes her come across as a logical being, not a demented human. By appealing to
logos in this quote, Winckler invokes thought in readers minds; she productively
addresses that killing animals is disturbing and off putting but necessary for survival,
since most nations perform rituals
Summary Of Goats By Naomi Shihab Nye
By describing the icy climate and the survivalist goats, Naomi, Shihab Nye in 300
Goats conveys the attitude of humans with distinct differences, but are one people
who work together embracing our complexities. Through elegant descriptions
Naomi shares her firsthand experience with us and what it is like to be on a goat
farm in China. She displays her surroundings to provide her experience. The poem
begins with her description of the icy climate suggesting that life is full of hardship
for the goats. This cold air is harmful to the goats, and they warm bodies pressing,
must work together for survival. The warmness of the goats exemplifies human
characteristics of trust, nurturing, and comfort. If one goat chose to stay on its own it
would surely die. The harsh climate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Naomi continues to develop her poem by talking about a water tank. The tank
develops the idea that she is on a farm. This farm is a dangerous place for them
because there is no shelter from the icy winds that torment these goats. She continues
clarifying the actions of the goats saying, little ones toward bulkier ones. This shows
us again that the goats need each other for the survival of their herd. She hopes that
the goats will find the brush , another type of home for the goats, yet brush is
different for the goats because it is covered, and protects them from the ice. The brush
resembles the human characteristics of safety, shelter, and comfort. Another frigid
night swooping down, reestablishes the harsh reality of the suffering of the goats.

Essay on Personal Ethical System
Personal ethical system We human beings live in a society. The society or the
social world we live in is based on human cooperation. In other words, the
individuals in a society do not live in an isolated self centered world. The human
interactive system presupposes ethical and moral standpoint from which we
operate. My personal ethical system is based on service before self and love your
neighbors as yourself . The question that I wish to address in context of these two
principles of my personal ethical system is whether my ethical system is capable of
being universally applied and followed. Can we think of a possible situation when
this system will break down so that it becomes indefensible? In other words, for an...

What is meant by going beyond the individual bio organic needs is that only
human beings are capable of achieving self fulfillment or what Maslow calls self
actualization that comes not from meeting one s personal needs of food, thirst,
security etc but going beyond them in the service of others. The driving force
behind men going beyond their personal and immediate needs to those of the
others first is the unique quality characterizing every human called love . That is
why, in my opinion, love for others so that one may adopt service before self and
love thy neighbors as thyself as their guiding ethical principle is what may be
understood as the ultimate human goodness. This ethical system is different from
both the Utilitarian of Mill and the Categorical Imperative of Kant. The principle of
utilitarianism holds the belief in the greatest happiness of the greatest number. Mill
equates happiness with pleasure, while pleasures are of higher and lower value.
Pleasures of mind are higher than the pleasures of body. For instance, pleasure of
learning is more valuable than pleasures of eating and drinking. The decision on
value of pleasure rests on the consensus of experienced observers. The moral
foundation of utilitarianism rests on the principle of greatest happiness of the greatest
number where happiness of every sentient being counts equally. The ethical system as
proposed in this paper draws from the unique human capacity of love

Character Analysis Of Bonnie And Clyde
Everyone has heard of the notorious robbers Bonnie and Clyde. Most people know
the general story of what happened from the movie produced about them, but few
really understand the morals behind the couple. Just like with most celebrities, their
story has been distorted to for a more entertaining purpose; movies. We as humans,
tend to glorify celebrities, even if they were bank robbers and killers. A major
example of how we glorify celebrities can be seen by looking at historical figures
Bonnie and ClydeBarrow.
In the movie, Bonnie and Clyde are seen as the protagonists of the movie. The way
the directors set up the script makes you fall in love with the characters. It s one
way to get you to feel emotion at the end when, spoiler alert, they are killed. The
movie is set up in a way to get you to sympathize with the characters. If you knew
the real story, you might not feel so sympathetic. Barrow was suspected of numerous
killings and was wanted for murder, robbery, and state charges of kidnapping (
Bonnie and Clyde 1). They were well known for their robberies and murders. They
were believed to have committed 13 murders within their four year spree; most of
whom were law enforcers.
At the time they were killed in 1934, they were believed to have committed 13
murders and several robberies and burglaries. Barrow, for example, was suspected of
murdering two police officers at Joplin, Missouri and kidnapping a man and a
woman in rural Louisiana. He released them near
Wages For The American Worker Essay
Honest Wages for The American Worker Congratulations, you are hired! The four
words that people long to hear. However, for many newly employed workers, their
new job will not pay an income that will enable them to live comfortably. In 2015,
the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that 2.6 million Americans, or approximately
3.3 percent of all hourly paid workers earned wages at, or below the federal minimum
wage. Since 2009, the federal minimum wageamount has remained stagnant.
Bringing this number to a level that is consistent with the cost of living is a basic
right for every wage earning American. Raising the minimum wage enables working
people to live above the poverty line. Although opposition states that raising the wage
will increase unemployment, the increase would actually reduce the number of
persons receiving food stamps, stimulate the economy, in addition to reducing income
inequality.
According to a Washington Post ABC news poll, two thirds of Americans say the
minimum wage should be increased. In 2015, protests by low wage workers
garnered media attention and captured the nation s attention. Workers exposed the
low wage paying practices by several big name corporations. These companies
included Macy s, Sears and Walmart in addition to fast food outlets Dunkin Donuts,
McDonald s and Subway. Pressure is building on Congress to raise the amount,
nevertheless this is not the first time Congress has wrestled with this subject. The

Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna was born in Jalapa Veracruz Mexico, on February 21,
1794. He was from a family of high social standing, as his parents were from Spain.
He was a Mexican politician and military leader who was President of Mexico eleven
times from 1833 to 1855. He was a disastrous president for Mexico, losing first Texas
and then much of the current American west to the United States. However, by far he
was an important figure of his generation in the Mexican history. He is remembered
for two major conflicts, the Battle of the Alamo (1836) during the Texas Revolution,
and as a restored Mexican leader during the Mexican American War (1847).

Dallas is one of the largest and most developed cities in the state of Texas in the
United States. Dallas is the 4th largest city in the United States because of its

largest city after Houston and San Antonio, is also one of the top ten cities in the
United States. The city is located in the middle of a desert and is literally revived.
Dallas, a Texas state, deserves more attention with its dynamic cityscape, recent

Dallas is famous for its cowboys. The history of cowboys is quite interesting. The

Geo Location And Social Media Services
Geo location and social media services are becoming the way of the future online.
These services are redefining the way we find and connect to interests and hobbies.
Through the expansion of Geo location and tagging mobile social media services,
user s privacy online will continue to be exposed without their knowledge and risk

With the progression and development in GPS and Wi Fi, geo location has become a
dominant tool that can collect information over huge distances. It is purpose is to
identify the physical location and time of a user when they post something on the

Different Forms Of Literature Display Multiple Scenarios
Have you ever considered the different ways one s family makes an influence on
how individuals view themselves? Many different forms of literature display
multiple scenarios where the parents or sibling s perception of the world altar their
own judgments of life or possibly even oneself. Think for a moment, from childhood
the person or persons that you are the most familiar with most likely are the very
people that you interact with on a daily basis. Most of the time, it would be your
familyor siblings that reside with you in your household. For example, a male who
has continuously watched his father abuse his mother may one day become
physically aggressive with his future companion or might even want to make sure he
never puts his hands on any woman based on how it affects his mother. The way a
person grows up and the influences that individual encounters can completely change
the character of just about any human. Judgment from the ones who you consider
family occasionally alters more than just an injured self esteem but overall the
perception they have for themselves.
When the The Rich Brother begins, the author, Tobias Wolff
, provides information on
how the two brothers Pete and Donald were complete opposites when it came to
their personalities and the way they viewed life. The fact that their parents were
both deceased could have carried a toll on Donald, the brother who was obsessed
with purifying everyone s soul, which could possibly be the reason why he took
The Rise Of Technological Advancement
The past 20 years have undeniably been witness to continuously, and unabated
change in many aspects of our individual lives. One of the major changes that I
believe has encouraged our wakefulness is the rise in technological advancement.
Our textbook explains how the light bulb is at fault for our decreasing sleep time,
and now things such as the Internet, cable TV, and cell phones seem to be keeping
us awake at night. I certainly have found myself surfing the internet, watching
television, or scrolling down my apps on my cellphone for one more minute right
before I go to sleep, far too many times to count. All of these unhealthy before
bedtime rituals involve light, a deterrent of our much needed slumber. In terms of
societal changes, I always seem to relate 20 years ago to simpler times, maybe
because I was only a child then, but comparing it to today everything seems to go
at a much faster speed now, almost as if there isn t enough hours in the day to
accomplish our to do list which is why we have leaned towards decreasing our sleep
time in order to get more accomplished. 20 years ago we did not have all of this
technology flooding our everyday lives, people did not care about posting to
Facebook or catching up on a reality show you have to watch all 12 episodes in one
sitting, or text messaging every waking moment of our day. 20 years ago the day
consisted of going to work in order to provide for the family, getting home in time for
dinner, and tucking yourself
Many People, Whether A Canadian Citizen Or Not, Have...
Many people, whether a Canadian citizen or not, have different opinions on the
Canadian government. These opinions can be strictly positive or negative, but
looking at certain aspects of the government may lead to mixed views depending
on what policies and programs are being evaluated. With this being said, there is
no concrete right or wrong answer to how well the Canadian government is doing
as they excel in some of the programs they implement, but also fail in others. With
the recent election of the Liberal party after almost 10 years of being governed by
the Conservative partyi , it is safe to say that there are and will continue to be
changes in government policies and programs in the years to come. Looking at the

international students to stay in permanent residency after graduation. In addition,
providing further incentive for international students to become entrepreneurs results
in economic growth as entrepreneurship is one of the major inputs necessary to raise
economic potential (Pg84). As a result, these graduates will better integrate in the
Canadian workforce and therefore be less likely to become unemployed. With this

Essay on The Turn of the Screw by Henry James
How far does The Turn of the Screw conform to the conventions of the
Victorian ghost story genre? What alternative interpretations does it lend itself to?
The Turn of the Screw was written by Henry James in the nineteenth century, when
the belief that living people were in contact with the dead was prevalent. In the
Victorian era the advance of science was undermining religious beliefs, because
evolutionists were saying that the world had not been created in 4004BC, as the bible
suggests.
Therefore, the possibility of contacting the spirits restored some faith in the non
material world. The era it was written in does suggest that The Turn of the Screwis

When the reader then discovers that the manuscript is kept in a locked drawer and
has not been out for years due to the dreadful dreadfulness! of the tale, the mysterious
atmosphere is strengthened. It is at this point in the novel that
Henry James ensures that the reader will finish reading the book, because they will
want to know what the Governess is hiding and why.
One of the obvious reasons for this, to the reader, is that the
Governess did not want anyone to hear her story due to it s hard hitting content. This
reason is made apparent to the reader from the metaphor Turn of the Screw , which
gives the impression that the story will have a deep emotional impact on them like a
screw being forced into a wall. Adding a particular touch to the story are the two
children, who give the effect of two turns . This shows the reader that the story will
have a deeper impact on them than they originally thought, because the depth of the
screw is dictated by the amount of turns forced upon it and also represents the
impression made on the reader. Consequently, if the screw is turned twice then the
story will have twice the impact. Douglas wincing grimace at the thought of the story
supports the reader s assumption that The Turn of the Screw is a horrific ghost story,
but nothing more psychological than that. However, alternative interpretations
suggest that the prologue is used
Crackle Painting Essay
Crackle painting old furniture is an easy way to resurface any old piece of
furniture and turn it into a conversation piece. Crackle painting is one of the many
popular faux finishes that involve a distressing technique that is extremely easy to
achieve for anyone. For a small amount of money you can find furniture at garage
sales or even rummage sales for very small amounts of money. This furniture can
then be easily resurfaced with crackle paint very easily, turning what was once
almost worthless into something that holds a lot more value. Browsing through
rummage sales and garage sales can be a lot of fun because you never know what
you may turn up. I always find great deals that can be turned into something much

Leather furniture can be very expensive and seem very difficult to maintain,
cleaning the leather on your furniture doesn t have to be so hard to do. Leather
furniture generally doesn t need a lot of involved care. A good dusting with a soft
duster or vacuum attachment with bristles occasionally usually does the trick;
unless of course something is spilled on it. When something is spilled on leather
furniture what to do to remove the stain can be confusing. Water, in some cases
can be very bad for leather, which can make cleaning it very difficult as water and
soap can be among the first things we reach for when cleaning up a spill. A lot
soaps are too harsh for leathers and can be too drying on leather furniture. If it is
necessary to use soap to clean stains from your leather furniture, use something
very mild on coated leathers only. When starting to remove a stain from leather
furniture, gently blot the stain with a soft clean cloth. Alternatively, fill a thin
cloth or stocking with salt and tie a knot at the top just before placing it on the
stain. The salt draws excess liquid away from the leather, making it easier to begin
removing the stain. After drawing extra liquid away from the leather, start
cleaning the stain with a cloth soaked in lukewarm water. Use the water soaked
cloth by patting the stain gently beginning at the outside edge and working toward
the center. If a stain is oil or grease based do not use water, simply blot the stain
with a clean soft cloth or tissue. Water could only make the oily stain worse. If this
doesn t remove an oil based stain, not to worry oil based stains usually dissipate
over time. Oil based stains require either a bit of patience and ingenuity to hide the
stain on the part of the owner while the stains gradually break down or extra money
to have the stain professionally removed. The only real ways to prevent your leather
furniture from staining is to not
Essay On The Maze Runner
The Maze Runner
The Maze Runner is about a boy named Thomas that is deposited in a community
of boys after his memory is erased; soon learning they are all trapped in a maze.
Wes Ball directed the Maze Runner. It is an Action, Mystery, Sci fi movie. The
goal of the movie is to escape the Maze to complete the trials. Grievers are in the
maze to prevent the characters from making it to the end of the maze. There were
many heroic scenarios on the adventure to the end of the maze. Thomas by far is
the most heroic. He runs into the maze breaking the rules to save some people that
are not about to make it out in time. Thomas also go s out with Minho to find the
exit and tricks a griever into being stuck in between two walls closing and the

The The Souls Of White Folks
India was under imperialistic rule by the British Empire or the Bristish Raj from
1858 to 1947.The region under British control commonly called India in the
British period included areas directly administered by the United Kingdom as well
as the princely states ruled by individual rulers under the paramount of the British

displaced in Windsor castle under high security. Most of the goods accumulated
from India were under Queen Victoria s reign; the other monarchs who were
reigning during this imperialistic time were Edward VII, George V, Edward VIII,
and George VI. W.E.B Dubois writes in the Souls of White Folks, We see Europe s

Rhetorical Analysis of Cicero s Defense of Marcus Caelius...
Cicero believed that a good orator must do three things in his speech: earn the favor
of the audience, provide persuasive arguments, and move the audience with
emotional appeals. In his defense of Marcus Caelius Rufus one finds an excellent
example of Cicero s work and through close examination can glean some additional
information about what Cicero felt was needed in a good speech. With such scrutiny
it becomes readily apparent that each of the three objectives need not be attained
equally. Because while Cicero does attempt to gain the favor of his audience, provide
persuasive arguments, and presents the audience with powerful emotional appeals, he
spends a vast amount of time providing the jurywith proofs (persuasive arguments), a

However, his most obvious attempt to entertain his listeners is seen in his adoption
of various personas, such as the famous Caecus (Cicero, p.141 142), or Clodia s
younger brother (Cicero, p.143) and finally the strict and lenient fathers who
address Caelius directly (Cicero, p.143 144). The reasons why he resorts to these
methods are almost as evident as the methods themselves. In this trial there is little
to no physical evidence, the prosecution is based almost entirely on the testimony
of Clodia (as Cicero points out (Cicero, p.140 141)) and various other witnesses.
And despite the fact that Cicero claims Fact will be pitted against fact (Cicero,
p.137) the outcome of the case depends largely on which side the jury chooses to
believe; Cicero knows that if the jury is on his side then they will tend to value his
points over those of his opponents. In order to sway the jurors he flatters them and
attempts to entertain them, because if they feel good will towards him as he speaks
that could easily be transferred to his statements as well. This is extremely important
because much of his defense rests on attacks upon the

Victor Hugo, the author of this novel uses his novel to criticize the partial class
based structure of the 19th century France, the society structure forced and turn
innocent and good people into beggars and criminals. Hugo focused and give us a
view on law enforcement, the protagonist of Les MisГ©rables, Jean Valjean was
also the victim of this cruel society, he was just a simple bread thief but the society
and law turned him into a career criminal. This doesn t mean that stealing is a good
thing to do, in fact it is morally wrong, but Valjean was compelled to stole the
bread to feed his starving family, it was his only choice to survive in the cruel
society, therefore equity is clumsy at its best. It scarcely penalizes the worst
criminals but destroy and tears apart the lives of the unfortunate, desperate people
who commit trivial crimes. Victor Hugo make us taste a sense of the everlasting
doubt that political episodes obtrude upon daily life of commoners. Hugo criticize all
the codes and system since the French Revolution for their impotence to deal
effectively with social corruption and banish France s resolute social class even after
the disband of the monarch. Hugo in this novel, focuses on the down trodden who
are almost always neglect in the society and hence the name Les MisГ©rables

From Louis XIV, who chose to ignore the deficit on his balance book hundreds of

constrained these unethical practices, a flourishing society and stable political status

Even in 15th century Italy, where were famous for its prosperous business and active

mysterious verve of accounting not only attracted public and rulers attention, but also
induced them to combine the success with good bookkeeping method. In some
degree, it is the truth, but in today s view, merely being a good accountant is not
enough to be a successful businessman. After more and more successful accounting
related stories came out, public firmed their high value of accounting, which
connected it to every things in their lives as well as God. This actually created a
pressure for accountants to do the best in financial accountability, or at least, they
purposely presented a beautiful surface, because public concerned and admired this
industry. This sounds like an idol in today s society, who needed to be careful about
their behaviors. This culture, as well as other cultures, could not survive without
authority permission, so it is easy to infer that rulers also tried to use accounting to
govern society better and managed their own properties. In history, however, from
Emperor Augustus to the first American superintendent of finance, rarely people

The Use Of N95 Masks Versus Surgical Masks
At OHSU s Bone Marrow Transplant unit (BMT) and at the outpatient center for
Hematologic Malignancies (CHM) clinic, BMT patients are not fitted for N95
masks, yet they are being asked to wear them. Therefore, the current issue is whether
or not the unfitted N95 masks are actually more beneficial than surgical masksfor the
patients. This is because we are asking them to be worn while not fitting them. I
selected this topic because I noticed there were inconsistencies within the practice
of each nurse regarding the use of N95 masks versus surgical masks. When I
probed deeper, I realized that some of the nurses didn t know OHSU policy and
were using best practice from another institution, which stated to use surgical masks
when transporting patients off of the unit. This made me wonder why different
institutions would have different policies and what the actual best practice is
according to evidence. The OHSU Policy #HC NSG BMT 205 POL Infection
Control Policy for Adult and Pediatric Oncology/Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant
(HSCT) Units states that patients shall wear an N 95 mask when outside the HEPA
filtered environment (OHSU, 2016).
This is important to me from a leadership role development because as an informal
nurse leader, it is my responsibility to own my own practice. In order to do this
appropriately, I must fully understand the policy of my place of employment and if
that policy is not aligned with current best evidence, it is my responsibility to
Nurse s Role In Collaborating Patient Relationship
I agree with your point on nurse s role as sentry and collaborators. As we discussed
in class, nurse as a sentry should watch over and protects the patient. However, in the
scenario, the nurses failed to protect the patient when they let the physician to go

collaborators, the nurses should work together to provide the best care possible for
the patient. ..collaboration involves a partnership characterized by mutual goals and
commitments in which participants willingly become involved in planning and
decision making Henneman et al. (1995). In this case, the nurses and the physicians
did not cooperatively solve the issue together and instead, letting the physician to
make his own decision to resuscitate the patient. In addition, I also agreed with your
point on the physician who forced a difficult decision upon the patient s family. To
start, it must be very hard for the family to accept the fact about the patient s death.
Yet, the decision that the physician made negatively impacted the family s grieving
process because it gave the family false hope when they have finally accepted the

Similarities Between Richard III And The Grand Inquisitor
Even though William Shakespeare s Richard III and Fyodor Dostoevsky s The
Grand Inquisitor depict both title characters as strong men who manipulate those
surrounding them, both men have different interests which drive them to act.
While Richard III utilizes his wit to deceive people and claim the throne of
England, the Grand Inquisitor acts to provide security for mankind by imposing
the new directive of the Church, one forcing people to surrender freedom for
safety. With such motives, both characters act to ensure their domination over
those who are weak and therefore must comply with their ideas to control all.
Although Richard recognizes that his actions are villainous, the Grand Inquisitor
believes that his doings will benefit humanity. In the beginning of the play, Richard
describes his hatred of the current peacetime present in England. Since peace now
exists between the houses of York and Lancaster with Richard s brother Edward IV
on the throne, Richard cannot utilize his battle skills, and grows bored. As a result,
his boredom drives him to create chaos, which he mentions when he tells the
audience that since I cannot prove a lover to entertain these fair well spoken days, I

Introduction: The film Schindler s List is based on a book called Schindler s Ark,
written by the Australian novelist Thomas Keneally. It follows Oskar Schindler
(Liam Neeson) a rich German businessman as he devotes his life to saving as many
refugees as possible, most of them being Jewish Polish. He does this by employing
them in his factories, where they make pots, pans and later on in the film faulty
ammunition for the German Nazi military. Oscar employed more than 500 people
for several years costing him all of his savings, apart from a few dollars and a golden

would have been of little effort to them to give the Jewish people water however it
was more enjoyable to watch them suffer. Spielberg used a number of close ups on
the suffering Jewish people. This shows the audience how little room they have are
and how mistreated they are by the Nazis. The final important camera technique is
the zoom along the length of hose. This has been used to enphasize the lengths that
Schindler will go to in order help the jewish people. Spielberg uses camera angles

his message. These camera angles in this scene are used throughout the whole

Intelligent Satire in Voltaire s Candide Essay
Intelligent Satire in Candide
In the story Candide, Voltaire uses the experiences of the character Candide and
dialogue between characters to dispute the theory by other philosophers that
Everything is for the best in this best of all possible worlds (Voltaire). Voltaire
believed that the society that he lived in had many flaws, flaws which are illustrated
throughout the story. Voltaire uses satire to take aim at the military
, religion, and
societies emphasis of physical beauty, to illustrate that we do not live in the best of
all possible worlds.
One institution that Voltaire takes aim at in Candide is the institution of the military.

Religion also comes under satirical attack in Candide. Voltaire uses Candide s
experiences to illustrate hypocrisy within the church. In chapter 24 of Candide,
brother Giroflee tells Candide that his life as a monk is miserable. Brother
Giroflee tells Candide that he was forced into his position as a monk, which gives
the underlying message that members of the clergy are not truly dedicated to God.
Brother Giroflee also makes the statement, Jealousy, faction, and fury spring up, by
natural law, within the walls of convents (Voltaire 1602). Voltaire demonstrates his
view that monks and nuns no better than the common sinner. From the standpoint
that we live in the best of all possible worlds, the ideas of jealousy, faction, and fury
should have no place inside the walls of convents. This is a round about way for
Voltaire to say that we do not live in the best of all possible worlds.
Voltaire also illustrated in Candide that society as a whole places more emphasis on
physical appearance than on inner beauty. Throughout much of the story, Candide is
obsessed with the idea of being reunited with Cunegonde. Candide speaks of how

threat to human lives from both an injury as well as a financial perspective. Given
that vehicles are designed to provide a smooth means of transportation,
manufacturers have long been in the process of designing the vehicles that are based
on principles of efficiency, reliability and safety. However, due to reasons such as
human error, circumstantial error, poor vision and negligence, accidents occur. Today,
special attention is focused on the technologies that can reduce traffic collisions.
Hence, Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) technology is proposed which are simple to
implement. The main objective of this paper is to alert the driver when he closes to
the front vehicle by using camera and ultrasonic sensor and to communicate mutually
for information exchange by using Xbee.

I.INTRODUCTION
In India, the percentage of killing of people by accidents is far more than those by
diseases. A survey said that approximately 45% of people are died due to road
accidents. [1,2] Nowadays, life style has become very fast and busy. People are
always in hurry. An unlucky event such as road
Cloning and Technology
Cloning is the answer to longer Life Cloning is the stepping stone to achieving
longer life. Through cloning technology or making copies of ourselves we can
overcome a lot of medical issues. Too many of us have been told by doctors that we
have some irreversible illness or injury without a cure. That a loved one will never
walk again or move their arm. Cloningis the answer to most of these issues and will
help us live a longer and happier life. The following paragraphs will discuss the
problems with cloning, why these problems exist and possible solutions to correct the
problem.
First of all, what is cloning? Cloning is the process of reproducing an identical
piece of ourselves at a subatomic level (Thompson). We can produce a replica of
ourselves ranging from our full body to just copies of our organs or an appendage
like a toe or finger. The problem with cloning is that modern science has not yet
learned how to separate all of the unhealthy items from the healthy ones. When this
process is complete we have a perfect copy of ourselves, but our other self is not
immune to normal defects such as cancer, lung or heart failure, blood disorders, or
even seizures (Kilner). We can spend all of our money on making another us but end
up with contaminated goods. Now we have another us that has to be fixed or
discarded.
The reasons why these problems exist is because modern science does not have the
technology to identify, totally isolate, and completely remove the negative

Napier is Scottish, it is derived from naperer which in Medieval times is a person

Clara Barton Biography
It is 1868, and you are the wife of a soldier at war. You have suddenly stopped
receiving letters from your husband. You panic after not hearing from him. After
about a year, you get a call from your husband s platoon leader personally saying that
your husband has been identified as a national war hero, giving his life to save many.
You can thank Clara Bartonfor getting your husband the respect that he deserves. By
1869, her obliging assistants and she had identified over 22,000 soldiers who were
unaccounted for or deceased (Edison 17). Barton is the first teacher to open a

She was sent to be the first female worker in the United States Patent Office (

her country, so when she received the news about all of the wounded and sick
soldiers in the civil war, she left her job and went to volunteer her medical services,
tending to suffering soldiers ( Clara Barton ). Finally, in 1862, she received
permission to transport supplies onto the battlefield. The soldiers and everyone
else always gladly welcomed her ( Clara Barton (1821 1912) ). Clara Barton once
stated it has been long said that women don t know anything about the war. I wish
men didn t either. They have always known a great deal too much about it for the

for all of those years has led her to believe that exact thing. In fact, from all of the
work she did during the war, she earned the nickname: The Angel of the Battlefield
( Clara Barton Biography ). In July of 1863, Barton went as far as to move from
her home in Hilton Head Island to Morris Island to take care of the growing

Conception Of Happiness
When considering an individual s conception of happiness, we must first look at the
life they lead to understand what might make that person happy. However, to truly
assess what makes an individual happy we must further analyze the individual s
character. Since the life one leads does not necessarily correlate to their happiness.
There are several factors that contribute to an individual s conception of happiness.
For example, a person may lead an extravagant life full of money, power, and all the
materialistic items that many desire, but that individual is not truly happy because
under all that material wealththey feel unhappy and alone. Meanwhile, another
individual is living within his means but he is completely happy with that life because
Smithville School Board Situation Analysis
Recently, some disheartening Facebook posts were discovered on the page of
Michael L. Till II who is a candidate for the Smithville School Board. These posts
ranged from racists to derogatory to just plain inappropriate and showed us the lack
of moral integrity by a candidate running for an office that represents the Smithville
SchoolDistrict. As a student in the district and a community voice, I wanted to bring
this to the attention of the voters of Smithville.
As the Smithville community works to advance the School District, Till does not
have the moral compass needed to hold a school board position and represent the
students, faculty and administration. Electing someone like Till would be a
degression and misrepresentation to the goal of the Smithville School District which
is to build a tradition of excellence and help students become proactive,
compassionate leaders . For 13 years of our lives, we look up to adults and seek out
mentors in all aspects of the District, whether it be faculty, administration or school
board members. We should expect the utmost integrity, respect and commitment out
of our community leaders as they try to instill in us, the students.
Electing Till would put a person on the board who lacks this integrity and respect for
all and would show our students that it is okay to disrespect ... Show more content on

society and after researching Michael Till s ,I can assure all that he does not fill the

Similarities and Differences Betweeen Evidence Based...
Within the field of education there is a range of methods and practices which have
been implemented by professionals, in order to improve the provision for learners.
Some of the methods adopted may be due to government legislation. An example of
this is the National Curriculum. It was introduced to establish a consistent approach
to the teaching of all children, in maintained schools. It gives guidance on what
should be taught for particular age groups and a set of level descriptors are also
included to assess children by. Other practices are developed, within a schoolcontext,
to address particular areas in need of improvement. Evidence Based Practice (EBP)
and Reflective Practice are two methods, used by teachers, to enhance the teaching...

Another familiar feature of both reflective and evidence based practice is that both
practices share a common aim. They both strive for change and improvement
(Atkin 1993 cited in Leitch Day 2000). Evidence is often gathered to support or
justify particular practice. We look at trends in results to identify a particular
weakness or strength. The optional statutory assessment grids are a great source of
evidence for teachers, at the end of a year. They provide a breakdown of the types
of questions that the children answered and show the percentage they got correct. In
my school we analyse this data to show where there are gaps in the children s
understanding. We then use this evidence to inform our teaching practice the
following year, by targeting these particular areas in need of development. By
looking at this example you can see how both evidence based and reflective practice
are used. As practitioners we need to reflect upon this evidence to help it inform out
teaching. Without doing this, these gaps may go unidentified and there would be no
improvement in that particular area of the child s understanding. This example shows
the reflection on action process.
Although it is possible to say that both practices share a common aim it could be
argued that the difference between the two is the way in which they are used
(McMahon 1999). Often when practitioners reflect on their practice, it is then that
they recognise a problem or dilemma. They do this by
Dnr Do Not Relieve Essay
DNR: Do Not Relieve DNR is a common acronym for do not resuscitate. In
healthcare settings this means no cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or
advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) is to be preformed on a patient if their heart
stops. Patients usually make this decision when they are of sound mind and able
to convey their wishes. But, what happens if their heart does not stop yet they
need help? If a patient is a DNR but is clearly in distress, do you attempt to relieve
their symptoms? Could you watch someone suffer, while knowing there is an
opportunity for help? In s and Out s of Healthcare Terminology Imagine a
beautiful large building, with 65 individual apartments for seniors to live in. The
staff working here is not required to be licensed in any type of healthcare. They
have CPR training, but that is all. The facility is very loosely regulated by the
state, but is similar to an ordinary apartment complex staffed with good samaritans.
This is an assisted living facility. These elders make decisions regarding their
healthcare prior to moving in. They choose their code status, either a full code or a
DNR, at this facility it is represented by a green dot or a red dot. Green indicating

This Small Town Means Business: Improving Local Economy When you grow up
in a small town the one thing that is the most difficult to withstand is boredom. At
least, that s how it is for the youth of the area. However, when you look at it from an
older and more mature perspective you might realize that the main issue with some
small towns is job availability, as well as the town s revenue for different projects, etc.
Recently my hometown has been undertaking a few different projects that will really
benefit the area and it s economy. The youth league softball program has grown
tremendously within the past few years. Due to that improvement, Sallisaw was
chosen to host a state tournament. Which was wonderful until we realized that our
softball complex was not best suited for a tournament of this magnitude. This is
when talk began on building an entirely new sports complex for all of the youth
league sports in the area. One other issue arose through hosting this tournament. Out
of sixty three teams who were in the tournament last summer, only one team stayed
in Sallisaw. The rest of the teams were sent to stay in hotels here in Fort Smith, all
because the hotels that are located in Sallisaw did not have an indoor swimming
pool. The teams would rather make a thirty minute commute than stay in a hotel that
does not have a swimming pool. The next project Sallisaw is undertaking is bringing
in a well known hotel
Postmodern Congruity In Bottle Rocket
The image above illustrates how the director subtly responds to his own work. It is
an example of postmodern irony and the new sincerity because it serves as a
subversive function, as Moonrise Kingdom (2012) makes a critique about the
characters in Bottle Rocket (1996). It happens at the beginning of the filmand it
immediately establishes the type of roles the adults and the children play. The
congruity between the two films is the collection of bottle rockets on the desk. The
incongruity comments on the maturity of adults and children. Dignan (in Bottle
Rocket(1996)) is a reckless individual and lights a rocket when it suits his mood, for
example, out of the window of a moving car. These children (above) are responsible
because they are capable of making the rockets, and they are making them in a safe
environment. Norton s character, the scout master, purposefully directs his cigarette
towards the camera, to not set them alight. The postmodern term of postmodern
irony suggests a consciousness (explained in chapter one) and the narrative is
designed to consciously know that is it a film. By commenting on a previous film,
the director is able to reply with the new sincerity about the condition of his
characters and it heightens the fact that the audience is watching a film. The
subversive function occurs when the illusion of reality is broken, as the filmic
devices are made evident.
A subversive method is adopted in film to go against an established system. In
Cause And Effect Of Video Games
The Effects of Video Games
Taz Ramsay
Lamar Community College
The Effects of Video Games Video games have been around since the early 1970 s .
Computer Space was the first video game to be produced, and it was created and
developed by a company called Nutting Associates. In 1972, a company called Atari
introduced a game called Pong . Atari was formed by a person named Nolan Bushnell
, a developer of Computer Space, who left Nutting Associates to found Atari, which
then produced Pong. Pong was the first successful commercial arcade video game .
(How Stuff Works, 2017) How is a video game made? A video game is taken
through a step by step process requiring five main steps. The first step to making
the video game is the design or layout of the video game. The next step is to
grabbing the materials needed to make the game. The materials needed to make the
game are different for each game, and it is based on the game and/or game console.
The third step in making a video game is going through the manufacturing process.
The steps include creating the story, captioning the games action with art, recording
dialogue and sound effects, writing the program, testing the game, burning the game
or disc, and packaging the game. These are all important for the next step of the next
step in making the game, which is ensuring the quality of the game. The final step is
improvement, because the producers want people to buy more games or stuff to help
unlock stuff in the game.
Similarities Between American Government And
Australian...
Dyneesha Richardson Australian vs. American Government First of all, there are
some similarities between the Australian government and the American government.
They both have a congress, although they call it parliament in the Australian
government. Both have a federal government; this means that they have state and
federal governments. They have senators that represents the states. They have a house
that is elected by the people. In both countries, legislation has to be passed through
both houses. They both have a court that interprets the constitution and handles final
appeals (Supreme Court in U.S. and High Court in Australia). Also, they both have
written constitutions that describes the powers of government. However, they both
have differences.
Impact Of Uk Financial Services Act
IMPACT OF UK FINANCIAL SERVICES ACT 2012 ON UK FINANCIAL
REGULATORY REGIME
Introduction
The Financial Services Act of 2012 in the UK came into force in 2013 on 1st April.
This Act has the government reforms on the financial regulatory structure in the UK.
The Act gives the new guidelines on the management of the banking sector and other
supervisory roles in the financial services sector. This Act bestowed the oversight role
to the Bank of England which is therefore expected to be responsible for the
occurrences in the financial system and how the financial institutions manage their
balance sheet risks. This Act also stipulates that three more bodies are to be formed
to assist in managing this sector. These bodies include the Financial Policy
Committee (FPC), Prudential Regulatory Authority (PRA) and Financial Conduct
Authority (FCA). This Act affects significantly the two previous Acts which have
been running the sector. These are the Financial Services and Markets Act of 2000
and the Bank of England Act of 1998. In this paper, the Act is clearly analyzed and
mostly the effects it has on the Financial Regulatory Regime in the UK (Noked
2013). The economy of the UK has been following a laissez faire system since 1979
(Allan and Stuart 2011)
Impacts on the regulatory regime
Impacts of the Financial Policy Committee The introduction of this committee
ensures that the Act takes full responsibility on the macro prudential regulations and
also overseeing how stable and
Examples Of Pestle Analysis Of The Book Industry
The PESTLE analysis can be used to assess the strategic relevance of the six principal
components of the macro environmental: political, economic, social, technological,
environmental, and legal forces. It can be used as a tool by companies to better
understand of the macro environment they are operating in.
i. Political factors
Government has introduced some policies to protect the publishing industry.
According to National Book Policy which adopted in 1985, it proposed that the book
industry should be recognized as an essential industry and, therefore, support must be
given for its development. Moreover, the Government policy towards local printing
and publishing industry was meant to give protection to the industry.
Yet, there are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Technological factors
The prevalent of e books creates numerous platforms for the marketplace of books.
For example, when Steve Jobs announced the launch of the iPad iBooks, it created an
enormous opportunity for publishers.
According to Association of American Publishers and the Book Industry Study
Group, the sales of e books were skyrocketed from US$ 869 million in 2010 to
more than double in 2011 to bring in some US$2.07 billion for the US publishing
industry. Another report from the CNN website, it showed that e book sales have a
202% of increment from 2010 to 2011.
A problem with technology is that it is rapidly changing and publishing companies
must always look at innovative ways to survive and compete with other companies.
v. Environmental forces
Environmental protection has also influenced the operation of publishing industry in
recent times. People nowadays are more environmental conscious compared to last
time. Most people are aware and concerned about damage to the environment and
want to do something about it. People nowadays choose to buy fewer books or buy
digital book to reduce the things that would normally clutter up
Synthesis Of Magnesium Oxide
In the first reaction, the copper wire reacted with oxygen from the air in the
reaction 2Cu(s) + Oв‚‚(g) в†’ 2CuO(s). This is apparent because it was observed
that copper underwent a chemical reaction, changing color form a shiny orange
color to the dark gray color characteristic of copper(II) oxide. Therefore, the product
of this reaction is copper(II) oxide. The reaction is a synthesis reaction because copper
and oxygencombine to form one compound.
In the second reaction, when the magnesium ribbon is heated, it undergoes the
reaction, 2Mg(s) + Oв‚‚(g) в†’ 2MgO(s). The magnesium reacted with oxygen in the
air to form magnesium oxide when the magnesium ribbon was heated and it produced
a white, matte, and crumbly product. This indicates that the the product formed is
magnesium oxide, a dull, white, substance. The reaction is classified as a synthesis
reaction because the magnesium and oxygen combined to form one product.
The third reaction is represented by the formula CuCOв‚ѓ(s) в†’ CuO(s) + COв‚‚(g).
When heated, the copper(II) carbonate breaks down into the products copper(II)
oxide and carbon dioxide. We know this because our wood splint stopped flaming the
instant it was inserted into the test tube containing the gaseous byproduct of the
reaction. Because the flame was extinguished by the gas, we can infer that the
gaseous byproduct of the reaction was carbon dioxide, thus leaving the the solid
copper oxide in the test tube. The reaction is a decomposition reaction because

Impressionism Essay. Writing about impressionism, about two impressionists and discussing ...

  • 1. Impressionism Essay Crafting an essay on the subject of Impressionism can prove to be both a challenging and rewarding endeavor. The complexity arises not only from the vastness of the topic but also from the need to delve into the intricacies of an art movement that revolutionized the way we perceive and appreciate art. Impressionism, as an art movement, emerged in the late 19th century and brought about a radical shift in artistic conventions. Its emphasis on capturing the fleeting effects of light, atmosphere, and movement posed a unique challenge for artists, and attempting to encapsulate the essence of this movement in written form requires a deep understanding of both art history and the socio- cultural context of the time. To write a compelling Impressionism essay, one must navigate through the works of iconic artists like Monet, Renoir, and Degas, exploring their techniques and motivations. Analyzing the juxtaposition of traditional academic art with the innovative approaches of the Impressionists adds another layer of complexity. Describing the significance of this movement in the broader context of art history and its lasting influence on subsequent generations demands thorough research and critical thinking. Furthermore, conveying the sensory experience that defines Impressionist art—how it transcends visual perception to evoke emotions and impressions—poses a linguistic challenge. Words may seem inadequate in capturing the essence of brushstrokes, color palettes, and the overall sensory impact that defines Impressionist masterpieces. In conclusion, while writing an essay on Impressionism may be a formidable task, the opportunity to explore and articulate the nuances of this groundbreaking movement is undoubtedly rewarding. It requires a meticulous blend of historical insight, art analysis, and a profound appreciation for the transformative power of artistic expression. • 2. Sam, You Are Receiving A Call Sam, you are receiving a call, noted Dawn, sighing. Sam. Sam, you need to get up now. Wrapped in all nine of her tails, Sam had no intention of getting up. By far, her favorite part of Quercasia, at least in the mornings and at night, was how soft the beds were. For someone who had grown up sleeping on top of stone with a little hay, the comfort of a bed was a luxury she adored. Nonetheless, her roommate wasn t all too interested in her stillness. She had a mission, and that mission was to get her best friend out of bed. Samantha? she asked one more time, If you don t get out of bed, I will do something you won t like. I ll have you know that I have discovered how to use the freezer. I will place my horn inside of it,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After having shoved half of a waffle drowning in maple syrup down her throat, she said her goodbyes to Dawn and was out of the house. Heading off for the nearby trolley, she discovered that she was standing in front of the training hall in only a matter of minutes. Anxiously stepping into the building, she had no idea as to what would be happening. Other than the fact that Edgar was there, which made the trip worth it for her, she was totally clueless as to what he was planning. Needless to say, she stepped into the training hall anyway without a second thought. Spying around the room, she found Edgar with his sword up, practicing his thrusts with a dummy. He was able to make ten slices with his cutlass in five seconds, each slice perfectly straight and parallel to the others. His technique was so perfect that he may as well have been cutting plaid lines into the thing. S Sallo, Edgar? called out Sam. Edgar turned out, purring so loudly that it could be heard from twenty feet away. Miss Sam! he called. You re here! Grinning, she ran up to him, her tails flowing around like a sea anemone. Once the two finally met, they embraced each other, happily sighing. Ever since Victor passed away, they had barely made contact, but all of their worries melted away. It s so good to see you, Edgar... It s wonderful to see you too, Miss Sam... he
  • 3. Strange Fruit Ap Language Billie Holiday s renditions of the poem Strange Fruit is what most listeners will hear when they search up the song. Her 1956 version of the song has inspired many artists, such as Cassandra Willson, to make their own rendition of the poem that created by Abel Meeropol. Both renditions focus on the lynchings in the south, but how they play it changes the character of the song. The rhythm of this song is what distinguishes these two renditions the most. In Mrs. Holiday s rendition, her voice is the rhythmic part of the song since the instruments are not played in a repeated pattern. The poem is written in an odd number of syllables and she usually sings and then pauses after saying five syllables. In some stanzas, she sings four syllables and then holds the last syllable in order to make it sound like five syllables so the rhythm can still have its structure.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Holiday uses her voice to keep the song in rhythm, Mrs. Willson took an instrumental approach to keep track of time. A heavy string instrument is used to keep the flow of the song. Its patterns are usually two, low notes, followed by a smack of the string instrument s body and then two high notes. She must the must have made the song s meter into five beats since Ms. Holiday sang the song at a pattern of five syllables. This is how Mrs. Wilson might have paid homage to Mrs. Holiday s rendition. Their vocal phrasing is a similarity between the song s renditions. In both versions, they sing each stanza slowly, their pitch is deep and stretches their voices when they sing a lyric that will rhythm to a word on the next stanza. At the end of the stanza, they start to speed up their singing, hit a higher pitch and stretches the last lyrical syllable a couple of seconds longer. This pattern is repeated in all of the verses, but the last verse emphasizes more on the higher notes and stretching the of the last lyrics since they want to make song end on a
  • 4. Inequity In The Great Gatsby Analysis While The Great Gatsby might seem like a bright, fast, and brilliant representation of the jazz age, there is actually injustice lurking within. Inequity means a lack of fairness or justice, or unfair act. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is about a pair of lovers, Daisy and Gatsby, who reunite after five years of silence, and learn that trying to recreate the past comes with bad consequences. George and Myrtle Wilson are a poor couple in relation to the very wealthy Daisy and Tom. Myrtle is Tom s mistress, and George fixes Tom s cars for him. George and Myrtle are the victims of inequity in The Great Gatsbybecause they represent the divide between the very rich and the very poor in New York, and their places in society and quality of life. Myrtle has been affected by both socioeconomic and gender inequity. She is unhappy being trapped in the lower middle class in the valley of ashes, but she can not work hard to raise her status because she is a woman. When Myrtle first married George Wilson, she thought she was marrying a rich man, but she later realizes that this was a trick and Wilson is very poor: I knew right away I made a mistake. He borrowed somebody s best suit to get married in, and never even told me about it, and the man came after it one day when he was out. She looked around to see who was listening. Oh, is that your suit? I said. This is the first I ever heard about it. But I gave it to him and then I lay down and cried to beat the band all
  • 5. Depression As A Chemical Imbalance Right now, over fourteen and a half million Americans, nearly seven percent of the population, suffer from Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)(Source 1). The human brain and its complexities currently make it impossible to quantify the exact way in which depression arises and affects a person. However, one thing is certain, a lot of people are sad, and it is getting worse. The rate of depression among high school to college age students has increased significantly in the U.S. over the past fifty years. Depression is often described as a chemical imbalance in the brain, which is entirely correct; however, this is a gross oversimplification of the disease. Neurologists have identified over one hundred different neurotransmitters, the chemicals... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, temperament, the way in which an individual views the world and their unacknowledged assumptions about how it works, also influence mood (Source 11). Although depression is classified as a mental illness, clinical depression can produce a host of physical and mental symptoms. Mentally, depression makes a person feel miserable, hopeless, and as though the smallest tasks are impossible. Previously enjoyed activities often become uninteresting and anger and stress levels can skyrocket. Physically, chronic exhaustion sets in and aches and pains can arise which have no apparent cause (Source 1). The MMPI test is heavily used in psychiatric and depression research. The MMPI, Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, is the most widely used psychometric test for measuring adult psychopathology in the world , and its derivatives, the updated MMPI 2 and the MMPI A that is used in adolescents, are both widely used and accepted in the academic and psychiatric communities (Source 4). An alarming trend has arisen in the past fifty years in America, depression rates have increased significantly for high school to college students. There is dispute over the exact magnitude of the increase, with some studies reporting a fifteen to twenty percent increase in
  • 6. The Experience Of The Miracle Of Childbirth Numerous men have probably wondered what it would feel like to be in a woman s body and experience something men have not experienced such as a childbirth. Consider undergoing the numerous feelings a woman encounters when discovering she s pregnant. However, imagining and reading about the structure of something does not necessarily make it evident, such as; the true excitement, concern and the thoughts of sickness during the different stages of the pregnancydevelopment. It would offer several men a sense of the approach and generate wisdom to know how it feels to experience the miracle of childbirth The first step a man must consider would be engaging and envision being a woman visiting the doctor s office for a routine checkup for; abnormal pains, morning sickness, followed by extreme headaches. While waiting in the examination room and filling out paperwork her nerves begin to elevate, her palms sweaty from being unsure what s happing or how serious her condition may be. After a few minutes the doctor and a nurse walk in asking her a few general questions concerning her health and last menstrual period. The doctor then orders a routine blood draw establishing a result of pregnancy. Meanwhile, it becomes apparent and clear in her mind, she begins to dwell and asking herself, as she ponders deeply at the circumstances; how would be pregnant affect her life? How expensive will it be to have a baby now a day? What will her friends say about this situation? Would

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Often, certain behaviors become more noticeable when comparing children of the same age. In some cases, babies with ASD may seem different very early in their development. Even before their first birthday, some babies become overly focused on certain objects, rarely make eye contact, and fail to engage in typical back and forth play and babbling with their parents. Other children may develop normally until the second or even third year of life, but then start to lose interest in others and become silent, withdrawn, or indifferent to social signals. Loss or reversal of normal development is called regression and occurs in some children with ASD. (National Institute of Mental Health, 2012). According to the Diagnostic and Statistical manual, symptoms include making little eye contact, tendency to look and listen less to people in their environment or failure to respond to other people, do not readily seek to share their enjoyment of toys or activities by pointing or showing things to others, responding unusually when others show anger, distress, or affection. Children with autism spectrum disorders often have difficulty with communication. These symptoms include, failure or slow to respond to their name or other verbal attempts to gain their attention, failure or slow to develop gestures, such as pointing and showing things to others, coo and babble in the first year of life, but then stop doing so, develop language at a delayed pace, learn to communicate
  • 8. Karl Popper Science As Falsification Summary In Karl Popper s paper Science as Falsification , he attempted to explain what exactly separates hard science from pseudoscience. He came to the conclusion that all theories which are to be deemed scientific must be falsifiable. In other words, the theory must have the ability to be tested and proven to be true, and not just deemed to be true because it happens to be true in some instances. Popper s logic was that the only reason to test a theorywas to find a way to deem it untrue, and so theories which are unable to be tested cannot be considered as science. I believe that this was a great turning point in the history of science because there were many theories which were considered as scientific because there was no basis of proving them otherwise. Many people who were studying in certain unfalsifiable... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Astronomy is concerned with the study of celestial bodies like planets, stars, comets, asteroids, moons, etc., the physics of these objects, and their relation to each other. Almost all information obtained in astronomy is through direct observation and mathematical calculations. Any astronomical theory can be tested by just looking up in the sky with a telescope. Further knowledge can be obtained by observing the relationships between these bodies and using theories from other branches of science such as physics and chemistry. Astrology, on the other hand, attempts to use the information observed from celestial bodies, such as the location of the sun, the moon, stars, and constellations in space, and their alignment relative to each other, to try to predict and explain things which are happening here on Earth. Astrologers use things such as the time of one s birth in relation to the position of these objects as a basis for making predictions about a person s personality traits, things which they may or may not do, or things which they may
  • 9. Disney Stock Has Outperformed The S P 500 Disney s stock has outperformed the S P 500 since 2009 and in 2013 they generated revenues of 45 billion dollars. The company has continues to grow and over the last 5 10 years have aggressively been pursuing a diversification strategy. Disney has acquired the rights to Marvel, Pixar, and Playdom, which they believe will help their brand grow. However, while focusing on developing other aspects of their company I believe that they have lost track of what made Disney so successful to begin with animated movies. My recommendation for Disney is put out more then two animated movies per year, because if these movies are successful it will over them more opportunities to diversify then any other acquisition. Disney Situational Analysis The Walt DisneyWorld Corporation has been one of the strongest businesses in America since the 1930 s. In 2013 Disney s revenues increased to 45 billion compared to 35.5 billion in 2007. To go along with increased revenue growth the Disney stock has also outperformed the S P 500 since ... If that means be continue to acquire outside firms to strengthen the division, potentially restructuring the division to be more efficient, I think the future if gaming and customer interaction will come from this division. Not only will strengthening Interactive Media be great for their division s bottom line, but it will also grow the value chain for Disney. For example if Disney makes a hit movie that grosses over a billion dollars worldwide, they could potentially make a video game off the same movie. This game will most likely generate a lot of revenue from people wanted to immerse themselves in all things this new movie. Disney always has done a great job of getting the most out of the products people love, and I think creating digital product that people can interact and play with fits perfectly with Disney s core
  • 10. Analysis of A Savage Life Essay Through the use of anecdotes in the article A Savage Life , Suzanne Winckler effectively points out that it is important to understand where your food comes from. Winckler helps convey to readers that while butchering animals is no fun, it is necessary for the survival of omnivores. She argues that meat eaters are out of touch with reality; instead of recognizing that an animal must be sacrificed for their meal, most consumers mindlessly devour the food on their plates without a thoughtof where their food came from. Winckler states I am too far gone in my rational Western head to appropriate the ritual of cultures for whom the bloody business of hunting was a matter of survival (634); in this statement she adequately appeals to logos... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through this proclamation, Winckler successfully appeals to pathos because she makes it simple for the audience to see the connection between a newborn and a chicken about to lose its life. Both chickens and newborns are ignorant to the world and rather helpless comparing a human to the food that one eats helps to put the killing of a chicken into perspective. Winckler then gruesomely explains what it is like to behead a chicken; appealing to both pathos and ethos: Headless chickens don t run around. They thrash with such force and seeming coordination that they sometimes turn back flips (633). By using imagery to describe this horrific requirement for killing a chicken, Winckler is seen as a credible and factual source. After slaying her first chicken, Winckler realized why cultures, ancient and contemporary, develop elaborate rituals for coping with the grisly experience of killing any sentient creature (633). She appeals to logos in this quote by informing readers of the epiphany she came to taking them through her mind s thought process; this makes her come across as a logical being, not a demented human. By appealing to logos in this quote, Winckler invokes thought in readers minds; she productively addresses that killing animals is disturbing and off putting but necessary for survival, since most nations perform rituals
  • 11. Summary Of Goats By Naomi Shihab Nye By describing the icy climate and the survivalist goats, Naomi, Shihab Nye in 300 Goats conveys the attitude of humans with distinct differences, but are one people who work together embracing our complexities. Through elegant descriptions Naomi shares her firsthand experience with us and what it is like to be on a goat farm in China. She displays her surroundings to provide her experience. The poem begins with her description of the icy climate suggesting that life is full of hardship for the goats. This cold air is harmful to the goats, and they warm bodies pressing, must work together for survival. The warmness of the goats exemplifies human characteristics of trust, nurturing, and comfort. If one goat chose to stay on its own it would surely die. The harsh climate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Naomi continues to develop her poem by talking about a water tank. The tank develops the idea that she is on a farm. This farm is a dangerous place for them because there is no shelter from the icy winds that torment these goats. She continues clarifying the actions of the goats saying, little ones toward bulkier ones. This shows us again that the goats need each other for the survival of their herd. She hopes that the goats will find the brush , another type of home for the goats, yet brush is different for the goats because it is covered, and protects them from the ice. The brush resembles the human characteristics of safety, shelter, and comfort. Another frigid night swooping down, reestablishes the harsh reality of the suffering of the goats. Naomi

In other words, the individuals in a society do not live in an isolated self centered world. The human interactive system presupposes ethical and moral standpoint from which we operate. My personal ethical system is based on service before self and love your neighbors as yourself . What is meant by going beyond the individual bio organic needs is that only human beings are capable of achieving self fulfillment or what Maslow calls self actualization that comes not from meeting one s personal needs of food, thirst, security etc but going beyond them in the service of others. The driving force behind men going beyond their personal and immediate needs to those of the others first is the unique quality characterizing every human called love . That is why, in my opinion, love for others so that one may adopt service before self and love thy neighbors as thyself as their guiding ethical principle is what may be understood as the ultimate human goodness. This ethical system is different from both the Utilitarian of Mill and the Categorical Imperative of Kant. The principle of utilitarianism holds the belief in the greatest happiness of the greatest number. Mill equates happiness with pleasure, while pleasures are of higher and lower value. Pleasures of mind are higher than the pleasures of body. For instance, pleasure of learning is more valuable than pleasures of eating and drinking. The decision on value of pleasure rests on the consensus of experienced observers. The moral foundation of utilitarianism rests on the principle of greatest happiness of the greatest number where happiness of every sentient being counts equally. The ethical system as proposed in this paper draws from the unique human capacity of love

Many different forms of literature display multiple scenarios where the parents or sibling s perception of the world altar their own judgments of life or possibly even oneself. Think for a moment, from childhood the person or persons that you are the most familiar with most likely are the very people that you interact with on a daily basis. Most of the time, it would be your familyor siblings that reside with you in your household. For example, a male who has continuously watched his father abuse his mother may one day become physically aggressive with his future companion or might even want to make sure he never puts his hands on any woman based on how it affects his mother. The way a person grows up and the influences that individual encounters can completely change the character of just about any human. Judgment from the ones who you consider family occasionally alters more than just an injured self esteem but overall the perception they have for themselves. One of the major changes that I believe has encouraged our wakefulness is the rise in technological advancement. Our textbook explains how the light bulb is at fault for our decreasing sleep time, and now things such as the Internet, cable TV, and cell phones seem to be keeping us awake at night. I certainly have found myself surfing the internet, watching television, or scrolling down my apps on my cellphone for one more minute right before I go to sleep, far too many times to count. All of these unhealthy before bedtime rituals involve light, a deterrent of our much needed slumber. In terms of societal changes, I always seem to relate 20 years ago to simpler times, maybe because I was only a child then, but comparing it to today everything seems to go at a much faster speed now, almost as if there isn t enough hours in the day to accomplish our to do list which is why we have leaned towards decreasing our sleep time in order to get more accomplished. 20 years ago we did not have all of this technology flooding our everyday lives, people did not care about posting to Facebook or catching up on a reality show you have to watch all 12 episodes in one sitting, or text messaging every waking moment of our day. 20 years ago the day consisted of going to work in order to provide for the family, getting home in time for dinner, and tucking yourself

What alternative interpretations does it lend itself to? The Turn of the Screw was written by Henry James in the nineteenth century, when the belief that living people were in contact with the dead was prevalent. In the Victorian era the advance of science was undermining religious beliefs, because evolutionists were saying that the world had not been created in 4004BC, as the bible suggests. Therefore, the possibility of contacting the spirits restored some faith in the non material world. It is at this point in the novel that Henry James ensures that the reader will finish reading the book, because they will want to know what the Governess is hiding and why. One of the obvious reasons for this, to the reader, is that the Governess did not want anyone to hear her story due to it s hard hitting content. This reason is made apparent to the reader from the metaphor Turn of the Screw , which gives the impression that the story will have a deep emotional impact on them like a screw being forced into a wall. Adding a particular touch to the story are the two children, who give the effect of two turns . This shows the reader that the story will have a deeper impact on them than they originally thought, because the depth of the screw is dictated by the amount of turns forced upon it and also represents the impression made on the reader. Consequently, if the screw is turned twice then the story will have twice the impact. Douglas wincing grimace at the thought of the story supports the reader s assumption that The Turn of the Screw is a horrific ghost story, but nothing more psychological than that. However, alternative interpretations suggest that the prologue is used

When something is spilled on leather furniture what to do to remove the stain can be confusing. Water, in some cases can be very bad for leather, which can make cleaning it very difficult as water and soap can be among the first things we reach for when cleaning up a spill. A lot soaps are too harsh for leathers and can be too drying on leather furniture. If it is necessary to use soap to clean stains from your leather furniture, use something very mild on coated leathers only. When starting to remove a stain from leather furniture, gently blot the stain with a soft clean cloth. Alternatively, fill a thin cloth or stocking with salt and tie a knot at the top just before placing it on the stain. The salt draws excess liquid away from the leather, making it easier to begin removing the stain. After drawing extra liquid away from the leather, start cleaning the stain with a cloth soaked in lukewarm water. Use the water soaked cloth by patting the stain gently beginning at the outside edge and working toward the center. If a stain is oil or grease based do not use water, simply blot the stain with a clean soft cloth or tissue. Water could only make the oily stain worse. If this doesn t remove an oil based stain, not to worry oil based stains usually dissipate over time. The reasons why he resorts to these methods are almost as evident as the methods themselves. In this trial there is little to no physical evidence, the prosecution is based almost entirely on the testimony of Clodia (as Cicero points out (Cicero, p.140 141)) and various other witnesses. And despite the fact that Cicero claims Fact will be pitted against fact (Cicero, p.137) the outcome of the case depends largely on which side the jury chooses to believe; Cicero knows that if the jury is on his side then they will tend to value his points over those of his opponents. In order to sway the jurors he flatters them and attempts to entertain them, because if they feel good will towards him as he speaks that could easily be transferred to his statements as well. The Use Of N95 Masks Versus Surgical Masks At OHSU s Bone Marrow Transplant unit (BMT) and at the outpatient center for Hematologic Malignancies (CHM) clinic, BMT patients are not fitted for N95 masks, yet they are being asked to wear them. Therefore, the current issue is whether or not the unfitted N95 masks are actually more beneficial than surgical masksfor the patients. This is because we are asking them to be worn while not fitting them. I selected this topic because I noticed there were inconsistencies within the practice of each nurse regarding the use of N95 masks versus surgical masks. When I probed deeper, I realized that some of the nurses didn t know OHSU policy and were using best practice from another institution, which stated to use surgical masks when transporting patients off of the unit. This made me wonder why different institutions would have different policies and what the actual best practice is according to evidence. The OHSU Policy #HC NSG BMT 205 POL Infection Control Policy for Adult and Pediatric Oncology/Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT) Units states that patients shall wear an N 95 mask when outside the HEPA filtered environment (OHSU, 2016). It follows Oskar Schindler (Liam Neeson) a rich German businessman as he devotes his life to saving as many refugees as possible, most of them being Jewish Polish. He does this by employing them in his factories, where they make pots, pans and later on in the film faulty ammunition for the German Nazi military. Through cloning technology or making copies of ourselves we can overcome a lot of medical issues. Too many of us have been told by doctors that we have some irreversible illness or injury without a cure. That a loved one will never walk again or move their arm. Cloningis the answer to most of these issues and will help us live a longer and happier life. The following paragraphs will discuss the problems with cloning, why these problems exist and possible solutions to correct the problem. First of all, what is cloning? Cloning is the process of reproducing an identical piece of ourselves at a subatomic level (Thompson). We can produce a replica of ourselves ranging from our full body to just copies of our organs or an appendage like a toe or finger. The problem with cloning is that modern science has not yet learned how to separate all of the unhealthy items from the healthy ones. When this process is complete we have a perfect copy of ourselves, but our other self is not immune to normal defects such as cancer, lung or heart failure, blood disorders, or even seizures (Kilner). We can spend all of our money on making another us but end up with contaminated goods. Now we have another us that has to be fixed or discarded. The reasons why these problems exist is because modern science does not have the technology to identify, totally isolate, and completely remove the negative

Another familiar feature of both reflective and evidence based practice is that both practices share a common aim. They both strive for change and improvement (Atkin 1993 cited in Leitch Day 2000). Evidence is often gathered to support or justify particular practice. We look at trends in results to identify a particular weakness or strength. The optional statutory assessment grids are a great source of evidence for teachers, at the end of a year. They provide a breakdown of the types of questions that the children answered and show the percentage they got correct. In my school we analyse this data to show where there are gaps in the children s understanding. We then use this evidence to inform our teaching practice the following year, by targeting these particular areas in need of development. By looking at this example you can see how both evidence based and reflective practice are used. As practitioners we need to reflect upon this evidence to help it inform out teaching. Without doing this, these gaps may go unidentified and there would be no improvement in that particular area of the child s understanding. This example shows the reflection on action process. Although it is possible to say that both practices share a common aim it could be argued that the difference between the two is the way in which they are used (McMahon 1999). Often when practitioners reflect on their practice, it is then that they recognise a problem or dilemma. They do this by

  • 50. Postmodern Congruity In Bottle Rocket The image above illustrates how the director subtly responds to his own work. It is an example of postmodern irony and the new sincerity because it serves as a subversive function, as Moonrise Kingdom (2012) makes a critique about the characters in Bottle Rocket (1996). It happens at the beginning of the filmand it immediately establishes the type of roles the adults and the children play. The congruity between the two films is the collection of bottle rockets on the desk. The incongruity comments on the maturity of adults and children. Dignan (in Bottle Rocket(1996)) is a reckless individual and lights a rocket when it suits his mood, for example, out of the window of a moving car. These children (above) are responsible because they are capable of making the rockets, and they are making them in a safe environment. Norton s character, the scout master, purposefully directs his cigarette towards the camera, to not set them alight. The postmodern term of postmodern irony suggests a consciousness (explained in chapter one) and the narrative is designed to consciously know that is it a film. By commenting on a previous film, the director is able to reply with the new sincerity about the condition of his characters and it heightens the fact that the audience is watching a film. The subversive function occurs when the illusion of reality is broken, as the filmic devices are made evident. A subversive method is adopted in film to go against an established system. In

Moreover, the Government policy towards local printing and publishing industry was meant to give protection to the industry. Yet, there are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Technological factors The prevalent of e books creates numerous platforms for the marketplace of books. For example, when Steve Jobs announced the launch of the iPad iBooks, it created an enormous opportunity for publishers. According to Association of American Publishers and the Book Industry Study Group, the sales of e books were skyrocketed from US$ 869 million in 2010 to more than double in 2011 to bring in some US$2.07 billion for the US publishing industry. Another report from the CNN website, it showed that e book sales have a 202% of increment from 2010 to 2011. A problem with technology is that it is rapidly changing and publishing companies must always look at innovative ways to survive and compete with other companies. v. Environmental forces Environmental protection has also influenced the operation of publishing industry in recent times. People nowadays are more environmental conscious compared to last time. Most people are aware and concerned about damage to the environment and want to do something about it. People nowadays choose to buy fewer books or buy digital book to reduce the things that would normally clutter up
  • 55. Synthesis Of Magnesium Oxide In the first reaction, the copper wire reacted with oxygen from the air in the reaction 2Cu(s) + Oв‚‚(g) в†’ 2CuO(s). This is apparent because it was observed that copper underwent a chemical reaction, changing color form a shiny orange color to the dark gray color characteristic of copper(II) oxide. Therefore, the product of this reaction is copper(II) oxide. The reaction is a synthesis reaction because copper and oxygencombine to form one compound. In the second reaction, when the magnesium ribbon is heated, it undergoes the reaction, 2Mg(s) + Oв‚‚(g) в†’ 2MgO(s). The magnesium reacted with oxygen in the air to form magnesium oxide when the magnesium ribbon was heated and it produced a white, matte, and crumbly product. This indicates that the the product formed is magnesium oxide, a dull, white, substance. The reaction is classified as a synthesis reaction because the magnesium and oxygen combined to form one product. The third reaction is represented by the formula CuCOв‚ѓ(s) в†’ CuO(s) + COв‚‚(g). When heated, the copper(II) carbonate breaks down into the products copper(II) oxide and carbon dioxide. We know this because our wood splint stopped flaming the instant it was inserted into the test tube containing the gaseous byproduct of the reaction. Because the flame was extinguished by the gas, we can infer that the gaseous byproduct of the reaction was carbon dioxide, thus leaving the the solid copper oxide in the test tube. The reaction is a decomposition reaction because
