Laproscopy Essay
FAQs on Laparoscopy
Q1. What exactly is laparoscopy?
Laparoscopy is an alternative to Open surgery wherein the abdomen is opened by
tiny key hole incisions and surgery is done. Scopy means the use of an endoscope
or telescope to see inside the abdomen. This is attached to a camera and a light
source and the inside of the abdomen is projected on to a monitor. The surgeon
performs surgery looking at this screen. The surgeon makes a total of 2 4 small cuts
on the abdomen ranging from half to 1 cm through which the telescope and other thin
surgical instruments are passed into the abdomen. When the uterus is removed ,
known as hysterectomy, there is also a cut at the top of the vagina where the uterus is
attached.
Q2. What kind of gynaecological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Surgery with laparoscope is more precise because it is magnified view. Further
vision is much better because it s like having your eye behind the structure because
you can see with the telescope at places where the surgeon s eye cannot reach.
Q4. If the cuts on the abdomen are so small in Laparoscopic surgery, how do you
remove the uterus or a large tumour from inside the abdomen?
Quite often if the tumour is not malignant and contains fluid, it is punctured to
collapse it into a smaller size. If it is solid, it can be cut into smaller pieces inside the
abdomen using a special instrument. The collapsed or cut structures can be removed
gently through the 1 cm cut on the abdomen which may be increased a bit if required.
After hysterectomy, the uterus can be removed easily from below, through the
John D Rockefeller Essay
John D. Rockefeller I am writing about John D. Rockefeller. I am going to go into
detail about what he did to build an empire. Also What he invented during his
younger years also who he partnered up with. I am also going to talk about what he
created. Also we are going to go into how he built America. He was born in July 8,
1839 in Richard, New York. Even as a child he was into the industrious stuff. he
started his life earning money with raising turkeys, selling candy and doing jobs for
neighbors. In 1853 John D. Rockefellerand his family moved to Cleveland, Ohio.
John D. Rockefeller went to high school and briefly studied bookkeeping at a
commercial college. When he turned 16 he started working as a office clark in
Cleveland. The job was that he had too sell and ship grain, cole and other
materials. In 1864, Rockefeller married Laura Celestia Spelman. Her father was a
merchant. In 1865 John D. Rockefeller borrowed money to buy out some of his
competitors and take control of the refinery, which became the biggest growing oil
Company in Cleveland. In the next few years he partnered up with other businesses
and expanded his oil industry even more. In 1870 John D. Rockefeller made the
Standard Oilfamous with Kerosene. John D. Rockefeller made a monopoly in the
oil industry by buying rival refineries and also developing companies for
distributing and marketing its products around the globe. In 1882 all of these
various companies where brought into Standard Oil Company. And then Standard
Oil would be made up of about 90 percent of the companies he took over. He did what

Minnesota Twin Essay
The Minnesota twin study, Bouchard et al. (1990) was a longitudinal and cross
cultural study to check the effect of heredity and environment on intelligence. This
study was conducted on monozygotic and dizygotic twins separated from each other
in infancy and reared apart. Approximately 50 hours of interviews and testing was
done on each twin. For measuring intelligence, the WAIS test and the Raven test was
used. The correlated IQ rates of the monozygotic twinsreared apart were then
compared to those that were reared together and dizygotic twins raised together to
understand the result of heredity and environment on intelligence. This was useful as
they shared similar genetic makeup but were exposed to different environmental
conditions. Monozygotic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also the study was cross cultural and included people from all over the world and
was relatively large so the results were more generalisable. One question about the
reliability of the study is that the twins have a common prenatal environment and if
this time period is the most vital in deciding how the childs brain is wired then it is
the environment having an effect on them. This explains similar iqs in fraternal twins
as compared to siblings. Also the twins usually spent the first few months together in
the same environment before being separated this may be the reason for similar traits
and so it would be the environment influencing intelligence. Many of the twins in the
study spent a few years together after being reunited before the study was conducted
and this too could have influenced the results. The study relied on media coverage for
recruitment of participants. Also most of the twins did not grow up in relatively
uncorrelated environments for example socially disadvantaged and so it could have
influenced results. the study was not able to gain complete concrete evidence.the
basis of it is understandable to the complex
Responsibility In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold
Where Does Ultimate Responsibility lie for the death of Santiago Nasar, in
Chronicle of a Death Foretold?
On the day they were going to kill him [1], is the opening to Chronicle of a Death
Foretold, by Gabriel Marquez, is a novella written in the form of a pseudo journalistic
reconstruction;, in which the reader is told about the murder death from the first line.
Here comes the importance of the theme of responsibility; we, along with the narrator,
work backwards to unravel the reasons and the mysteries behind the murder.
However, we must differentiate between two opposite aspects of this theme;
responsibility and action. Some characters were prominently conventionally
responsible for the death of Santiago, through their actions. ... Show more content on

However, they both determined, not to mention it to the latter. It could be perceived
that she, as a young woman, just stepping into the world of adolescence, was not yet
able define her feelings towards Santiago. The narrator comments that, (Divina) didn
t warn him because she was nothing but a frightened child at the time, incapable of
a decision of her own. She was unclear about her feelings towards him and permitted
her mother to decide for her. However, Divina s main contribution to the theme of
responsibility arises at the end of the novella. She led PlГЎcida Linero, into locking
the door, deeming believing that she had seen Santiago had gone up to his room.
Yet, in fact the latter, was assaulted by the Vicario twins, in front of his house and
the narrator comments that, (he) only lacked a few seconds to get in when the door
closed. (Marquez, P.119) Despite, the fact that her illusion sounds implausible,
Divina confirms that she had seen him come inside the house, It was a very clear
vision (Marquez, P.118). We, as the readers are left with no option but to believe her.
Two other characters; LeonardoLeandro Pornoy and Colonel Aponte can be both held
responsible for the murder, they had equivalent chances to save Santiago s life.
LeonardoLeandro Pornoy, the policeman, was given first hand information, when the
Vicario twins, informed him of their intent to kill Santiago. However, his ignorance
prevented him from arresting them or even
Transition Into Adulthood
I was standing on the side, waiting for my turn; half heartedly watching the person
before me, admittedly too engrossed in myself. My hands were shaking so hard I
thought they might fall off. Sweat was beginning to roll down my face. After what
felt like years, it was my turn to take the stage. As I walked out with my head held
high, I entered adulthood in the danceworld. This pivotal transition from childhood
to adulthood is the first solo performed at a competition. My first solo was almost
seven years ago, when I was about ten, and it was one of the most nerve wracking
experiences I ve ever had. It all began when my dance teacher asked me if it was
something I would be interested in, and of course I was. I was filled to the brim with
Freudian Theory Into Lord Of The Flies
The psychological makeup of a person has a significant influence on the quality of
their decisions and behaviors. Golding incorporates the theme of Freudian theory
into Lord of the Flies to present a psychological meaning that explains the struggles
associated within everyone. Various symbols justify the characters as specific parts
of Freud s analysis of the human personality. In Lord of the Flies, Golding
establishes a psychological meaning through the use of symbolism to personify
Piggy, Jack, Ralph and Roger as the specific traits of the superego, ego, and id in
Sigmund Freuds structural model of personality.
During most of the book, Piggy displays the superego of Freud s psychological
analysis through the symbolism of clothing, the conch, his glasses, and the fire. The
symbolism of the fire and the glasses are linked together to support the theme of the
Freudian theory. The fire which the children foster and guard on the mountain in the
hope of communicating with the adult world is lighted with his glasses. In
mythology, after all, the theft of fire brought civilization and, hence, repression to
man. As the new community becomes more and more irrational, its irrationality is
marked by Piggy s progressive blindness (Rosenfield). The symbolism of Piggy s
glasses and the fire support that Piggy is the most intelligent, rational boy in the
group. Since Piggy is intelligent, he is constantly reminding Ralph of the wisest
decisions, such as keeping the fire
The Differences Between Eukaryotic And Prokaryotic Cells
Organisms are made up of cells which were considered as the basic unit of life. After
the invention of microscope, Robert Hooke first discovered cells by looking at a
dead cell from an oak tree. His finding brought the study of cell biology. According
to the cell theory formulated by lots of scientists, all living organisms are composed
of at least one cellwhich is the basic unit of life, and all cells come from pre existing
living cells.
Cell is a wide type of substance that have variations between species and species, for
example a plant cell contains a cell wall which is absent in most animal cells.
Scientists had been trying to classify all organisms into different groups. Current
classification system is the three domains and six kingdoms which the three domain
divides organisms based on the ribosomal RNA they contained in the cells. The three
domains are Bacteria, Archaea and Eukarya which the first two are made up of
prokaryotic cells and Eukarya is made up of eukaryotic cells. This essay will focus
on the differences between eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells.
To start with, the first eukaryotic and prokaryotic cell appeared at different time
mainly because to their requirements for survive. At first the condition of the Earth
was not suitable for any organism, for example lack of organic molecules. After the
modification of the Earth environment, the prokaryotic cells in single celled
organisms were believed to arise 3.5 billion years before. The oldest fossils of

If you ask any ECS student about their school, one detail you always hear is the
vibrant, happy, community, and that is reflected everywhere throughout the school.
Most people, however, will only ever experience ECS as they walk through Frick
Park, which only provides a view of the backlot. Being in an older building, the
backlot was not meant to reflect ECS s values, and instead, reflected the exact
opposite. Whether it was the chain link fence, the deteriorating asphalt, or something
else, most people got the wrong impression of ECS. Not only that, but students would
often spend time there, and also feel indoors, when they in a school about the
outdoors. All of this has earned it the name, The Blacktop . When the school got a
10,000 dollar grant, we set out to make that change.
Beautification is not the only challenge we faced, as another major problem of the
backlot is stormwater. This is the water created by storms. When solving this
problem, we first learned about the water cycle, and how water interacts with the
earth. We saw that water gathers in certain... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

So what exactly is green infrastructure, and how does it help? When dealing with
water issues, there are two types of solutions: green and gray infrastructure. More
common, and what the backlot used to use, gray infrastructure solves water
problems by directing them elsewhere. The drains we had went to Nine Mile Run,
which later led to the Monongahela river, that led to the Ohio river. The problem is
that gray infrastructure is built for convenience, not the environment, so it isn t the
right solution for ECS. Green infrastructure, a newer solution, is based on
mimicking what nature has done so effectively to deal with water for thousands of
years. So really, it isn t new, it s ancient. There are many types of green
infrastructure, and we used two of them: bioswales and rain
Why Is The Greek Alphabet Important Today
The Greek and Roman alphabet is important today because it was used to record and
make us understand the Ancient World and to learn another language. Without this
information, we wouldn t know much about the use of language, writings, poems,
speeches, plays, histories, books of science, books of thoughts about the world, and
time, all of which the alphabet lead and guide us to. The Greek alphabet is of
paramount importance to world culture and writing, because it was used to record the
most cultured and philosophical thought of the ancient world, which guides us today,
It is the base not only the new Greek script, but a number of other writings, such
writings in Latin characters, according to this website. All of these elements affect the

The Impact Of Environmental Impacts On The
Environment
According to environmentalists each of us has an ecological footprint based on an
estimated amount of how much land, water and other natural resources that we use.
Despite the controversies on climate change, we should protect the environment so
that the resources on the planet will be able to support many generations to come.
There are several ways in which we can challenge the opposing views and contribute
to a brighter future for our environment. The choices that we are facing in this current
era include: adapting to sustainability and shifting illegal deforestation.
We must preserve our planet by adapting to sustainability. We should recycle in our
everyday lives, and be environmentally conscious of how the items we utilize
impact our planet. According to Sarah Kaplan, by 2050 there will be more plastic
than fish in the world s ocean. (1). Of course, it is evident that recycling, is one
option to reduce our ecological impact on the planet, but a good place to start is to
minimize our usage of plastics. According to the US Energy Information
Administration (EIA),
the three main forms of fossil fuels are coal, crude oil, and natural gas. Coal is
extracted from the earth through surface mining or underground mining, depending
on the depth and concentration of the coal reserves, and crude oil is extracted in
liquid form from underground reservoirs, oil shale, or tar sands deposits. Once
extracted, crude oil is refined to create gasoline, fuel oil, and a variety of

Asymmetric Threats Essay
Currently there are several definitions of asymmetric threats listed throughout the
internet as well as other literature. The definition that best sums up the meaning in
my view is leveraging unconventional tactics against a superior opponent with the
goal of disrupting the willingness to achieve the operational objectives. The most
common and current example of this would be the insurgency tactics used in Iraq and
Afghanistan. The United States must not assume those tactics and strategies will
only be used abroad. The same asymmetric threats our country s security initiative is
facing are the same challenges are seaports are facing. Some examples of the potential
asymmetric threats the United States seaport faces are nuclear weapons,... Show more

The impact of a chemical environment would also lessen the dominance of a United
States military operation. The United States military is commonly known to operate
both deployment and re deployment operations at specific ports of embarkation and
debarkation; making targeting for a chemical attack fairly simple.
Like chemical weapons, biological weapons are easy to obtain, but the area covered
by such an attack is fairly small and limited. The most effective area to use a
chemical weapon on a seaport would be the operation center of that port due to the
limited damage it will cause to the infrastructure. The psychological effect of VX or
Sarin would devastate any port operation and to trace the origin of the agents would
prove to be very difficult.
The most common vulnerabilities to seaports exist due to the geographical location
and the amount of activity surrounding most seaports. Highways, railways, and
joining waterways create many security issues and make larger seaports terrorist
strategic targets. The sheer size of the sea requires numerous resources and assets
from agencies such as the United States Coast Guard. The task of monitoring and
securing seaports is an international challenge because the United States trade goods
with various countries. Security standards vary from country to country causing any
substandard port to become an
Led Zeppelin s Influence On Rock Music
Stemmed from a humorous conversation among musicians, the name Led Zeppelin
has had a great impact on rock music. Their influence had carried on past the 1970 s,
the time of their highest peak of popularity when they had toured extensively. Almost
instantaneously they had become a hit, performing four concert tours in the US
within their very first year. As time went on, many heavy metal bands such as Deep
Purple, Black Sabbath, Queen, and Aerosmith as well as punk bands like the
Ramones had been impacted by Zeppelin and showed similar music styles in their
own work. However Robert Plant, frontman for Led Zeppelinremained ingratiatingly

This had taken quite a toll on the band s unity as Plant had begun to separate
himself and pursue new paths before returning to the band. The song All of my
Love , co written by Plant, was dedicated to Karac, (his son). On top of the death,
Plant in an interview remembered how his band had abandoned him in his time of
need. During the absolute darkest times of my life when I lost my boy and my
family was in disarray, it was Bonzo who came to me. The other guys were [from]
the South [of England] and didn t have the same type of social etiquette that we
have up here in the North that could actually bridge that uncomfortable chasm with
all the sensitivities required ... to console (Giles). What he goes on to describe
even more profound was when Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones (bassist), and Grant
had declined to make an appearance at Karac s funeral. This action had forever
hindered the relationship between Plant and his band members. However, it was
Page that had kept Plant from walking away from the band insuring that the band
was nothing without him. Plant goes on to say how, he [Jimmy Page] wanted me to
take a break until I felt ready for playing again. I realized that we are more than
business partners. We are real friends. We have enough money to live a life without

A Marxist Reading of Shakespeare s Coriolanus Essay
examples
A Marxist Reading of Coriolanus
One popular dissecting instrument of any Shakespearean character is the modern
tool of psychoanalysis. Many of Shakespeare s great tragic heroes Macbeth, Hamlet,
King Lear, and Othello, to name a few have all been understood by this method of
plying back and interpreting the layers of motivation and desire that constitute every
individual. Add to this list Shakespeare s Roman warrior Coriolanus. His strong
maternal ties coupled with his aggressive and intractable nature have been ideal
fodder for modern psychoanalytic interpretation. This interpretation, however, falls
within a larger, political context. For despite the fact that Coriolanus is a tragedy
largely because of the foibles of its title ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marxism, essentially, is a theory of the proletarian liberation movement. This theory
is dialectic in that society is seen as a composition of contraries (e.g., rich vs. poor),
and that what makes humanity evolve is the struggle between these contraries. The
triumph of one over the other produces change. Change, however, is resisted by the
ruling class because most, if not all, of the wealth is concentrated in their hands; they
in turn control the means of production, allowing them to exploit the workers for
their own ends and widen the gap between the rich and poor even more in the
process. This situation produces alienation in the worker; it deprives him of
something, and this is not only degrading but depersonalizing as well (Appignanesi,
79).
From this perspective, Menenius fable of the belly is clearly fallacious and intended
to instill a false state of consciousness in his listeners. The tale deflects the cause of
the plebeians hunger from the patricians right back at the plebeians themselves:
... For the dearth,
The gods, not the patricians, make it, and
Your knees to them, not arms, must help (I.i.63 65).
Modern capitalist apologists use much the same argument as this, only instead of
directing the working class to pray to the gods to better their lot in life, they

History of e learning
The term e learning has been used frequently since the development of internet in late
of 20th century, distance courses has been offered by educational institutions and
academies for learners who want to learn specific subjects and skills or for those
who prefer e learning due to their real life circumstances. In 1984, the first software
MAC give people opportunity for individuals to have computers in their homes and
establish easier learning through online. Also, by the year of 2000 , many of
companies and institutions used e learning to train and improve their employees to
gain basics to be suitable for their jobs. Tools for successful e learning such as
internet, computers , and laptops become widespread around the world (Gogos,2014).
Approaches of e learning
Synchronous learning
Learning and teaching process occurs at the same time, the trainer and learners
interact with each other and share the ideas, details, and solutions during the session
while they are physically separated from place shift . There are many examples of
synchronous learning such as virtual classroom, audio/video conferencing, online
lectures, listening to a live radio broadcast, and two way live satellite broadcast .(
Yakaraju G ,2014)
Desynchronous learning
The main distinction between synchronous learning and this approach is that no
interaction between trainer and learners because learning and teaching process occurs
in separated times (not at the same time give the opportunities

How to make beef Kathew
Kathiew, rich beefy broth, made from ox bones and roast simmered in beef stock,
over rice noodles. Filled with plentiful of meat, thinly slice; garnish with cilantro
and jalapenos. One of my favorite noodle soup to eat during the cold winter. Many
people know it as Pho, but Pho is the vietnamese version of kathew. They re similar
to one another, yet they have different taste to them. If you like Pho then, you d
probably enjoy Kathew. Below I will share with you how my grandmother makes
her pot of soup that will last a for the weekend.
Before we start cooking, this is what you will need to make a pot of soup for your
kathew.
You ll need two pots and a sauce pan, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Step one, in your large pot place your beef bones, beef chuck, beef tendon, chicken
neck bones, 3 cloves garlic, 1 whole onion, ginger, star anise, and 14 cups water,
cooked on high temperature till water bubbling. Once your water is bubbling,
lower the temperature and let simmer for about 3 hours. Occasionally stir the broth
and remove and bubble that forms on the top of the broth; make sure you don t
cover the pot. (The longer you cook your broth, the tastier it ll be.) Step two,
cooking your noodles; while your broth is cooking, take your second pot and put 8
cups of water, bring it to a boil and add in your noodles, cook till it s tender. Now
turn off the heat and remove your pot and pour your noodles into a colander,
rinsed under cold water and drained, then set aside. Return to your simmering
broth, remove all the meat and spices as well as the bones. You can discard the
spices and place your oxtails, beef bones, beef tendon and beef chuck in a large
bowl, picks out meat from beef bones, cut beef tendon and beef chuck to bite sizes
and set it a side. After you ve done that, season your soup broth with fish sauce,
sugar and salt. Taste soup broth and seasoning to your taste. Add more sugar for
sweeter taste, or more fish sauce for saltier taste. Keep soup broth hot on the stove.
That s it for your kathew soup. Last step before you start serving, take your sauce
pan , heat it up, once sauce pan
Sparta DBQ Essay
Any society that abuses children should crumble .Sparta was an ancient Greek city
state. They valued military strength above anything else. They did not teach
academics, farming, or anything else besides military tactics. The weakness
outweighed strengths because they lacked education , they abused their children and
their society did not last more than 300 years.
To begin with, The Spartans lacked education. In document D the text states, [The
Spartans] learned to read and write for purely practical reasons: but all other forms
of education they banned from the country, Spartans were not allowed to read books
or treatises. They could not perform in plays or criticize the government. They could
not form their own opinion.
Secondly, they only lasted for a little over 300 years. In the Background Essay it
says, During these years, Sparta was under terrific pressure, fighting Athens and the
same time looking over its shoulder at a restless helot population at home. These two
factors led to the Spartans down ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

use to any type of land. The boys were also encouraged to steal food but were
whipped if they were caught. Not only were they whipped for stealing, but they were
whipped during the Flagellation where they were sometimes whipped to the point of
death.
Although, Sparta had weaknesses they did have the strongest military of their time.
The Spartan army perfected a battle formation called the phalanx that is still talked
about today. Sparta s weaknesses still outweigh the strengths because of the reasons I

Similarities Between Lucy And The Catcher In The Rye
An author of children s books claimed, When you become a teenager, you step onto
a bridge... The opposite shore is adulthood. Childhood lies behind... As you cross, it
burns behind you, (Gail Carson Levine). This quote reveals a hard truth of life.
While some do not want to cross the bridge into adult hood, it is inevitable. Jamaica
Kincaid and J.D. Salinger further demonstrate the difficulty of one s journey from
childhoodinto adulthood through their coming of age stories Lucy and the Catcher in
the Rye. Holden and Lucy are both outsiders in their own, separate worlds connecting
them through a common experience. However, while they may appear to be
analogous at first glance, they are also very dissimilar. These differences are

For example, when Holden s sister Phoebe asks him what he wants to be, he
declares he wants to be the catcher in the rye (173) indicating Holden s desire to
save children from falling off the cliff (173) into adulthood. Holden s statement
contains his inner fear of growing up. This fear forces him to turn toward child
like, immature behavior. Holden s behavior makes it difficult for him to connect
with the people around him, thus isolating him even more. Unlike Holden Lucy s
predicament develops from her feelings of not belonging when she arrives in
America even though she has been looking forward to the change for a long time.
She wonder when those who she left, would not appear before me in one way or
another, (8) symbolizing her homesickness. Lucy s feelings of loneliness push her to
long for the familiarity of her home even though she has a lack of love towards her
mother. Lucy s dilemma of being trapped in between cultures is the main problem
that she faces through the book. Though Lucy and Holden s dissimilarities can be
understood through their contrasting predicaments, this understanding can be
enhanced by the comparison of their personal source of

Film Review Of Camila
Camila Film Review The tyrannical period of Argentina from 1829 to 1852 was
filled with brutality and death at every corner; no one was safe, not even the
wealthy or the immaculate. The corrupt regime, flooded with strict rules and forced
advocacy, dominated society for over twenty years. During this time, two unlucky
lovers fell deep into the unforgiving pit of this cruel regime. The film Camila , with
its star crossed lovers juxtaposed in a callous and dictatorial society, has a dark
romantic plot soaked with violence. This melodrama features constant blood spill and
horror under Argentinas tyrannical leader, Juan Manuel de Rosas. The film features
violence such as the killing of a bookkeeper, the brutality of Camila s patriarchal
family, and the ultimate demise of Camila, her unborn child, and her lover.
Although never pictured, this unforgiving ruler leaves quite an impression in the
two main characters lives, who are never able to escape the heinous regime of
Rosas. Camila shares the tale of two unlucky partners who become stuck in Rosas
never ending web of death and discontent. The film reveals how brutal and
unforgiving life was during this period. The beginning of the film shows Camila s
grandmother being locked away due to her previous relationship with a viceroy. She
is automatically rejected from society and imprisoned in her son s home. Although
she manages to escape death, her life is essentially tossed to the side just for

Essay on Media Violence Does NOT Cause Violent Behavior
In fairy tales, children are pushed into ovens, have their hands chopped off, are
forced to sleep in coal bins, and must contend with wolves who ve eaten their
grandmother. In myths, rape, incest, all manner of gruesome bloodshed, child
abandonment, and total debauchery are standard fare. We see more of the same in
Bible stories, accentuated with dire predictionsof terrors and abominations in an end
of the world apocalypse that is more horrifying than the human imagination can even
grasp.
For the most part, these images of violence, promiscuity and human degradation are
explained away by psychologists, mythologists, sociologists, philosophers, and non
fundamentalist theologians as symbolic manifestations of the human psyche. This is

And our stories seem to assist that flow.
If we stipulate then that, to some degree, violence in our folk, fairy tale, mythic and
biblical traditions is a good and natural reflection of our psyche s connection to the
interior realms of our unconscious, then why are we so adamantly convinced in our
culture that violence and sexuality in modern film and television is sending us all to
hell in a hand basket?
Story has been around since humans first began to grunt, and it would be hard to
imagine that even the most primitive mind didn t have some degree of innate
understanding of the metaphorical and allegorical qualities of story. Why then do we
assume that the adolescent, American male, living in the 21st Century B.C.E., can t
make this mystical leap of judgment as well?
Indeed, some of our cinematic images of brutality, savagery, and gore are
disturbingly psychotic and totally gratuitous in their usage; but are they
representative of something other than shadow? Or is it just that this shadow is out
of the managerial range of parents, teachers and clergy? Even if we consider the view
of von Franz that: Not all dark impulses lend themselves to redemption; [and we have
to be careful not to] accept everything that comes up from the unconscious

To Spay or Not to Spay
As a pet owner, we strive to make the best decisions for our furry friends, as we are
their only advocates. They depend on us for everything they need to survive.
There are so many decisions we must make on their behalf. What kind of food
should we feed them? When is it time to see a veterinarian? These are all choices
we make to ensure they live healthy and happy lives. One of the most controversial
decisions we are faced with is whether or not to spay or neuter our pets. Some
people feel that it is an unnecessary surgery, while others see it as a means to an end
for pet overpopulation. I personally feel that in order to make the best decision, we
need to be sure we have the correct facts. First we will cover the topic of pet
overpopulation. It is estimated by The Humane Society of the United States that
approximately six to eight million pets are brought in to animal shelters every year.
Sadly, more than half of these pets are euthanized due to overpopulation. That
means that these pets are being killed purely because there isn t enough room to
house them. Animal shelters are packed full of adoptable animals just looking for a
place to call home. These animals rely on us humans to save their lives, literally. It is
irresponsible to allow your pet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is an animal s natural instinct to roam for a mate while in heat. This can put them
at risk of getting hit by an automobile, attacked by another animal and even killed.
An animal will not go in to a heat cycle if they are spayed or neutered. Another pesky
behavior that can be curbed by neutering is urine marking. I m sure we have all see a
male dog lift his leg to urinate on every tree in the neighborhood. Sure there s
nothing wrong with that, but what if it was every chair in your house? Then there
would be a problem. To a dog, he is just marking his territory, which all goes back to

distressing side effects of surgery (Watcha and White, 1995; Tate and Cook, 1996a).
2. With a multifactorial aetiology, the incidence of PONV can be affected by
surgical procedure, use of anaesthesia and individual patient and/or post operative

Development of PONV may result in a number of serious complications including

would suggest that patients find PONV more debilitating than pain, with some

It also recognizes that the company can get maximum output from the employees by
ensuring they are always motivated and have the best working environment. One way
of achieving that is through ensuring that employees have a good organizational
compensation and benefits policy. A research on the company reveals that the
management of the company has put up several organizational compensation and
benefits for their employees.
Compensation and benefits definition Compensation refers to the rewards that an
employee earns from a company in return for the labor services they provide to the
enterprise (Martocchio, 2010). They include direct financial compensation such as
salaries, wages, and bonuses, indirect financial compensation such as retirement
plans, leaves, and education services, and lastly non financial services such as
advancement opportunities and career development (Martocchio, 2010). On the
other hand, benefits refer to the compensations that a company gives to its
employees on an optional basis in addition to their usual salaries. They include
disability income protection (dental, vision, life, and health), sick leave, paid and
non paid vacation, and funding of education among others (Martocchio, 2010). A

The Influence Of Resveratrol Supplementation On Various...
Cardiovascular disease has become one of the leading causes of death worldwide (1).
In their textbook, Smolin and colleagues state that resveratrol [...] may help to
prevent cardiovascular disease (2, p.479). Indeed, observational studies have provided
evidence that populations that regularly consume substantial amount of the
compound resveratrolalso have a lower incidence of cardiovascular disease (CVD)
(3,4). One meta analysis calculated that drinking 150 mL of red wine (containing
resveratrol) per day provided the optimal protection from cardiovascular disease (5).
However, no experimental evidence exists to directly link resveratrol

Twenty healthy, age matched (36 years of age, on average) subjects were
randomized to either receive 200 mg of Polygonum cuspidatum extract (PCE)
(containing 40 mg of resveratrol) or a placebo daily for 6 weeks. Blood samples
were collected at baseline and at 1, 3 and 6 weeks. Oxidative stress was determined
by analyzing blood for reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation. Inflammatory
state was determined by assessing nuclear NFKB DNA binding activity (via gel
shift assay) and TNFО± mRNA expression (via PCR testing). Resveratrol
supplementation was found to significantly reduce ROS generation, NFKB DNA
binding activity, and TNFО± mRNA expression compared to both baseline and the
placebo group at 3 and 6 weeks. (see figure 1). The authors therefore concluded that 6
weeks of a resveratrol containing supplement could reduce both oxidative stress and
inflammation. A major weakness of the study is that the authors failed to report the
sex of the subjects making it challenging to compare these findings with other studies.
Furthermore, this study used a PCE supplement, which contains several other
antioxidants in addition to resveratrol. The possibility therefore remains that these
other compounds or an interaction effect could have been responsible for some of
changes that were observed.
A study conducted by Yoshino and colleagues was conducted to determine the

Introduction to Forensic Investigations
Locard s Exchange Principle and the use of Fingerprints: Edmond Locard (1877
1966) was a French scientist specialised in both medicine and law. Inspired by the
work of Hans Gross, it was Edmond that created the concept that all objects of any
material should leave traces of itself upon whatever it touches, even if it is the
minutest amount, simply put as Every Contact leaves a trace, Locard (1923). This
is commonly known as Locard s Exchange Principle. He believed that in
circumstances such as a crime, his principle could be used to find evidence of who
and perhaps even how that crime was committed by finding small materials, either
physical or chemical at the scene of the crime that would directly link back to the

Even when they get packed away in boxes they could chip on the handle.
Everything can affect an objects uniquness. If a window is pryed open to gain
entry to building, the screwdriver used to pry it open will share different
properties to every other. By studying the `striation` marks on a window, we will
clearly be able to see that there are a certain number of grooves that make the mark.
By comparing this to the screwdriver that was found in a suspects house, this could
show that this was the screwdriver was used in the offence. This could then be
used as evidence in court to prosecute the said suspect. Individualisation is pretty
much based upon inductive reasoning; which is used a lot in Forensic
Investigations. By saying we have never seen two screwdrivers the same leads us
to believe that there are no two screwdrivers in the world. The same refers to the
uniqueness of fingerprints, a pair has never been found; but if a pair was ever to
be found, this would mean the entire theory of individualisation would fall apart.
Referring back to Popper s work on falsifiability, is it possible to prove that this
theory can be wrong? In order to do so you would have to check every single item
of that class ever made in great detail. This is too much to check on and so there is
no way we can prove this test to be false. Paul Leland Kirk believed that
individualisation was a key idea in Forensic Investigations and stated that
Education Of West Afric A Little Background Information

When you look at these issues at the surface it s easy to tell that something is wrong,
but something has to be done to create solutions to these problems.
In the article Too Little Access, Not Enough Learning, it states that one of the
main struggles that these West African schools face is not making national
headlines. This may not seem like a big problem, but raising awareness is one of
the best ways resolve many flaws in West Africa s education system. In the article
Walkins also states that children go hungry for want of textbooks, good teachers
and a chance to learn which is pretty powerful because these kids are facing outside
challenges that are often looked past by first world countries. West Africa has also
recently endured an epidemic that has taken the counties by storm: the Ebola virus.
Bordner explained in his article Post Ebola Challenges for Education in West Africa,
that the education sector got hit extremely hard and many school and universities
had to shut down, which put a major set back on the already poor education system.

many of the universities and schools are now responding and rebounding in a timely
manner to get the education system back on track. For the average American, our

year 1890, and was titled The Snake s Pass. The novel was a romantic thriller and
was set in his home country of Ireland. Many critics find his early writings leave
much to be desired, stating they are overdramatic and rely too heavily on tired
cliches. However, Stoker found great success when he published his novel Dracula in
1897. The novel is widely regarded as a masterpiece and took him seven years to
write. Several critics place it as the greatest work of horror ever written. The novel
was inspired to his visit to Whitby. There he came across An Account of
Principalities of Wallachia and Moldavia, a book by William Wilkinson which pays
homage to the history of Dracula. He also spent years researching traditional Eastern
European folklore and the geography to supplement his knowledge while
The Effects Of Wi Fi On The Library
Background Every day, students spend a lot of time and energy in searching for a
seat at their university library. Not only do they have to take the time to walk over
to the library from their dorm rooms only to find out that all the seats are full, but
they must also traverse the floors awkwardly looking for a seat. It would be much
helpful if the students were able to find out the number and location of available
seats, without even leaving their dorm room. To solve this problem, our group has
come up with a system which can count the number of people on the each floor of a
library. To eliminate some of the expenses and make the system more compatible
with an already constructed library, the system we would develop would have to be...

The IT facilitates firm to customer, firm to firm, and customer to firm
communications online and on mobile devices. Hence, this trend enables
application developers to tailor services to fit the needs of each consumer [1].As
an application developer aims to satisfy a specific need of the target consumers,
the service quality and the satisfaction of the consumers increase. A service
provider shall adapt its product over time by modifying and improving the service
it provides, based on the consumers behaviour and response. A service provider
must constantly analyse and derive tests for errors and generalizability while
modelling the service as suggested by Figure 1 below[1]. The advances in mobile
data technology now allow consumers to access information ubiquitously, providing
the companies in the service sector with new marketing opportunities. Newer
marketing technologies must be modelled and implemented to adapt to this
environment [2]. The authors objective is to examine how user mobile Internet
usage relates to certain unique characteristics of the mobile Internet space. As
opposed to the limitations on geographical mobility and access faced by PCs,
mobile devices can access data wirelessly almost anytime and anywhere. The South
Korean 3G mobile market had over 10 million subscribers in June 2008 [2]. With

These were distributed to houses fairly close to the store and to those of the ethnic
minority around the store. This was carried out in order to meet the objective of
having a balanced work force in terms of gender, age and ethnic minority.
Apart from being easily accessible, the recruitment team also responded by making
themselves more available. They worked through the evenings and weekends, thereby
making them more available to applicants.
At the northern store, the closure of several manufacturing companies was an
opportunity to have a large pool of potential candidates. A B Zee took the initiative
to solicit with the local Job Centre. The result was that there were too many
applications to be processed. The major constraint was time. As a result of the huge
number of applications, there was constraint in the task of short listing for
interview which was as a resulted of the enormous volume of applications received.
Majority of the applicants were of good quality Also, given the size of the task and
the time available it was very likely that the quality of the short listing decisions
would be affected.
The lay out of the application form did not help the short listing process at all. The
most relevant information was not grouped together. This was a major constraint as
well because more resources, effort and time had to be devoted to responding to all
the applicants.
The recruitment team was also faced with the constraint of having to respond
Letter From Growing Homes Southeast Over The Past Year
I would like to take this time to thank you for allowing me the opportunity to be a
part of Growing Homes Southeast over the past year. However, over the past
months it seems as though there have been quite a few misunderstandings between
Growing Homes and me. Therefore, I am writing this document to clear up the
misunderstanding. In no instance, do I have any reason to lie or be dishonest.
Although you all may feel as though I haven t been totally honest with you, I view
this situation as a misunderstanding of what I was actually trying to accomplish or
who I am as a person. In no case am I writing this document for you to feel sorry for
me, but for you to gain an understanding. Prior to these past few months Sitrenia,
Latasha, and I have had a face to face conversation. During this time, Sitrenia made
me aware of some issues that occurred during the time the first foster child moved
into my home. Like I stated at that point, I wasn t aware of some of the rules that
took place during that time. Considering the fact that, I was new to this program I
requested to have a policy and procedure manual to help me understand the Dos
and Don ts of Growing Homes. Up until this day, I still haven t received the
manual, but here we are again at this same point where you all feel as though I
broke a rule that I wasn t unaware of. When I say unaware, I mean I didn t know
that since I haven t had a child in my home for almost five months I had to make

Depictions of the Afterlife
The afterlife as a residence for souls after death has long been a topic of discussion
and debate. This idea intrigues many. As Christians we believe that heaven is a
place where believers go where life there will be a continuation of their present life,
while hell is a place of judgment and punishment where many experience severe
treatment. Direct experience is the only way individuals can experience these
concepts, but once we obtain the experience it cannot be shared. This ultimately
makes us want to know more leading many to visualize the afterlife. Starting with
the earliest Greek Epics, such as The Iliad, society has imagined an Underworld, a
place beneath the Earth where souls go once the body dies. Our thoughts and
expectations about such an idea have changed over time; the idea of the
Underworld continues in many Greek and Latin poems and it still used today
(Spiegel). The best descriptions of the afterlife are found in Dante s Divine Comedy.
In his first book, The Inferno, Dante explores Hell, a place in which sinners dwell
after they die. His account is mainly taken from Book VI of Virgils The Aeneid,
which describes Aeneas s journey into the Underworld to visit his father. These two
works, written many years apart share similar ideas about life after deathand it makes
us consider the changes in society s thoughts over these times. There are obvious
differences found between these two stories and they correlate with the different
beliefs society has about the
Compare Jitter, Shimmer and Harmonics to Noise Ratio in...
Compare jitter, shimmer and harmonics to noise ratio in terms of the types of
information each provides?
Jitter and shimmer are measures of the cycle to cycle variations of fundamental
frequency and amplitude, respectively, which have been largely used for the
description of pathological voice quality. Jitter is also known as frequency
perturbation and refers to the minute involuntary variations in the timing variability
between cycles of vibration. In essence, it is a measure of frequency variability in
comparison to the client s fundamental frequency. Research shows that jitter values in
normal voices range from 0.2 to 1 percent. (Ferrand, 2007) Jitter values above this
level indicate that the vocal folds are vibrating in a way that ... Show more content on

The vocal note produced by the vibrations of the vocal folds is complex and made
up of periodic (regular and repetitive) and aperiodic (irregular and non repetitive)
sound waves. The aperiodic waves are random noise introduced into the vocal
signal owing to irregular or asymmetric adduction (closing) of the vocal folds.
Noise impairs the clarity of the vocal note and too much noise is perceived as
hoarseness. The Harmonics to Noise (HNR) ratio is a measure of the proportion
of harmonic sound to noise in the voice measured in decibels. (Ferrand, 2007).
HNR quantifies the relative amount of additive noise (Awen Frankel, 1994) The
lower the HNR, the more noise in the voice. Laryngeal pathology may lead to poor
adduction of the vocal folds and, therefore, increase the amount of random noise in
the vocal note. If a person has some kind of problem in vibrating the vocal folds,
due to a growth, paralysis of one or both vocal folds, or other kind of laryngeal
problem, a larger amount of air escapes during vibration, creating turbulent noise.
(Pabon Plomp, 1988) The greater the proportion of noise, the greater the perceived
hoarseness, breathiness or roughness and the lower the HNR figure will be, i.e. a
low HNR indicates a high level of hoarseness, and a high HNR indicates a low level
of hoarseness. There is a strong relationship between how we perceive voice quality
and the harmonic to noise ratio (Ferrand, 2007).

Pride And Prejudice Marriage Proposal Essay
In the novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, the comical scene in which the
protagonist, Elizabeth, receives a marriage proposal from her cousin, Mr. Collins,
addresses the issue of the societal expectations regarding women accepting marriage
proposals. One wrong expectation that is reflect in this scene is a women must accept
a marriageproposal, even if she does not lovethe man, out of fear she will never
receive another one. Mr. Collins tells Elizabeth that she should marry him, because
she may never receive another proposal. Another struggle that exists in the novel is
the presumption that a woman should marry a man if he lives in better circumstances
than the woman. Mr. Collins tells Elizabeth that he lives in superior circumstances...

Collins s proposal is amusing it is also serious since it contains the fallible
expectations on women when they receive a marriage proposal. Elizabeth combats
theses expectations on women in marriage and do not allow them to be
contributing factors in her decision to accept or refuse a marriage proposal. Mr.
Collins warns Elizabeth that if she does not marry accept his marriage proposal
she may never marry since there is no guarantee she will ever receive a second
marriage proposal. Elizabeth defies this a still refuses to marry Mr. Collins. Mr.
Collins also mentions the idea that a woman should accept a marriage proposal if
it comes from a person who is more well to do. Even though Mr. Collins is more
well to do Elizabeth refuses to marry him. Finally, Elizabeth is sincere when she
refuses Mr. Collins proposal even though it was believed by Mr. Collins and even
her mother that a women is dishonest when she refuses a marriage
Heinrich Von Treitschke
With a strong sense of racial identity and the ideology of a superior race, German s
believed they were strong and powerful. As one of the most powerful nations in
Europe, Germany did have right to believe they were superior. In addition to have a
strong racial identity playing a large factor in German s thinking and perception of
themselves, warbrought the nation together. As stated before war was not seen as
a negative, but rather as a positive way for a nation to unite and come together for
the great good of the nation. In Heinrich von Treitschke s excerpt from his book
Politics, he explores how war was glorifying experience for a nation. Tension could
be on the raise in a nation, but people will come together for better of the country
Analysis Of The Book Freakonomics By Steven D. Levitt
In the book Freakonomics, by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner, is made up of
a series of scenarios in which an economist and a journalist apply basic principles of
economics to demonstrate that information can often expose interesting truths about
how the world operates. It uses the science of economics and specific data to
challenge our assumptions about everything. In the book Freakonomicsby Levitt
Dubner, compares and contrasts two groups of people or things by using their
informational data. This is called juxtaposition, which means the fact of two things
being seen or placed close together with contrasting effect. Levitt and Dubner look at
the world in a way that is both surprising, occasionally funny, and always
enlightening. They do so by drawing unexpected connections between two greatly
different but complementary aspects of sociology and economics, such as sumo
wrestlers to school teachers, KKK members to the real estate agents, and lastly, crack
gangs to McDonalds.
In chapter one of Freakonomics, the comparison between school teachers and sumo
wrestlers is a juxtaposition that was introduced in this book. The Chicago Public
School System is an example of how teachers were willing to cheat, thus manipulating
their students test results in order to obtain money compensations and prestige. The
possibility of promotion or higher pay, provoked teachers to inflate their student s test
scores. Whether through writing the answers to Standardized tests on the

Plagiarism in College Work Essay example
Plagiarism takes various forms. A student may cheat doing something as extreme as
purchasing a paper, hiring someone to write a paper or turning in a paper freely
provided by a friend. Many students unknowingly commit Plagiarism by failing to
properly cite their sources crediting the authors. Still others cite, but plagiarize by
coping much too much and writingfar, far too little of their own synthesized thoughts
and ideas. Students must be careful about copying too much. If a paper is mostly
other writers material, that can be considered Plagiarism, even if the student credits
their sources.

Mythic Characters Of Wonder Woman
There are many mythic characters but one that has a really strong influence is
Wonder Woman who is the daughter of Hippolyta and Zeus. In today s world, she is
an admirable role model to look up to due to the traits she possesses such as strength,
loyalty, and honesty. Firstly, Wonder Woman is a strong female
role model due to her
strength. She inspired young females to stay strong. Stereotypically men are
considered to be stronger than females, but Wonder Woman breaks those
stereotypes. In addition to this, Wonder Woman is loyal. She is loyal to the people
she loves and makes sure the bad is always defeated. Furthermore, Wonder Woman
is extremely brave. She fought in WW1 and is fearless. Wonder Woman provides a
safe environment for all that feel endangered. There are several ways in which
Wonder Woman illustrates strength, loyalty, and bravery, however, the most
significant trait she possesses is passion. She will always have the passion to help
humanity in every way or form, making her one of the best mythic characters.
Wonder Woman s strength empowers woman making her an honorable person to
look up to; therefore she sets a positive example for the younger generations. For
instance, when she fought a war and destroyed a sniper bell tower with only one
single punch. This part of the movie shows strength because, in reality, a human won
t be able to destroy a tower with one punch. Wonder Woman may be half god but she
is still part human and she was able to destroy the tower

  • 3. John D Rockefeller Essay John D. Rockefeller I am writing about John D. Rockefeller. I am going to go into detail about what he did to build an empire. Also What he invented during his younger years also who he partnered up with. I am also going to talk about what he created. Also we are going to go into how he built America. He was born in July 8, 1839 in Richard, New York. Even as a child he was into the industrious stuff. he started his life earning money with raising turkeys, selling candy and doing jobs for neighbors. In 1853 John D. Rockefellerand his family moved to Cleveland, Ohio. John D. Rockefeller went to high school and briefly studied bookkeeping at a commercial college. When he turned 16 he started working as a office clark in Cleveland. The job was that he had too sell and ship grain, cole and other materials. In 1864, Rockefeller married Laura Celestia Spelman. Her father was a merchant. In 1865 John D. Rockefeller borrowed money to buy out some of his competitors and take control of the refinery, which became the biggest growing oil Company in Cleveland. In the next few years he partnered up with other businesses and expanded his oil industry even more. In 1870 John D. Rockefeller made the Standard Oilfamous with Kerosene. John D. Rockefeller made a monopoly in the oil industry by buying rival refineries and also developing companies for distributing and marketing its products around the globe. In 1882 all of these various companies where brought into Standard Oil Company. And then Standard Oil would be made up of about 90 percent of the companies he took over. • 4. Minnesota Twin Essay The Minnesota twin study, Bouchard et al. (1990) was a longitudinal and cross cultural study to check the effect of heredity and environment on intelligence. This study was conducted on monozygotic and dizygotic twins separated from each other in infancy and reared apart. Approximately 50 hours of interviews and testing was done on each twin. For measuring intelligence, the WAIS test and the Raven test was used. The correlated IQ rates of the monozygotic twinsreared apart were then compared to those that were reared together and dizygotic twins raised together to understand the result of heredity and environment on intelligence. This was useful as they shared similar genetic makeup but were exposed to different environmental conditions. Monozygotic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also the study was cross cultural and included people from all over the world and was relatively large so the results were more generalisable. One question about the reliability of the study is that the twins have a common prenatal environment and if this time period is the most vital in deciding how the childs brain is wired then it is the environment having an effect on them. This explains similar iqs in fraternal twins as compared to siblings. Also the twins usually spent the first few months together in the same environment before being separated this may be the reason for similar traits and so it would be the environment influencing intelligence. Many of the twins in the study spent a few years together after being reunited before the study was conducted and this too could have influenced the results. The study relied on media coverage for recruitment of participants. Also most of the twins did not grow up in relatively uncorrelated environments for example socially disadvantaged and so it could have influenced results. the study was not able to gain complete concrete evidence.the basis of it is understandable to the complex

On the day they were going to kill him [1], is the opening to Chronicle of a Death Foretold, by Gabriel Marquez, is a novella written in the form of a pseudo journalistic reconstruction;, in which the reader is told about the murder death from the first line. Here comes the importance of the theme of responsibility; we, along with the narrator, work backwards to unravel the reasons and the mysteries behind the murder. However, we must differentiate between two opposite aspects of this theme; responsibility and action. Some characters were prominently conventionally responsible for the death of Santiago, through their actions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, they both determined, not to mention it to the latter. It could be perceived that she, as a young woman, just stepping into the world of adolescence, was not yet able define her feelings towards Santiago. The narrator comments that, (Divina) didn t warn him because she was nothing but a frightened child at the time, incapable of a decision of her own. She was unclear about her feelings towards him and permitted her mother to decide for her. However, Divina s main contribution to the theme of responsibility arises at the end of the novella. She led PlГЎcida Linero, into locking the door, deeming believing that she had seen Santiago had gone up to his room. Yet, in fact the latter, was assaulted by the Vicario twins, in front of his house and the narrator comments that, (he) only lacked a few seconds to get in when the door closed. (Marquez, P.119) Despite, the fact that her illusion sounds implausible, Divina confirms that she had seen him come inside the house, It was a very clear vision (Marquez, P.118). We, as the readers are left with no option but to believe her. Two other characters; LeonardoLeandro Pornoy and Colonel Aponte can be both held responsible for the murder, they had equivalent chances to save Santiago s life. LeonardoLeandro Pornoy, the policeman, was given first hand information, when the Vicario twins, informed him of their intent to kill Santiago. • 6. Transition Into Adulthood I was standing on the side, waiting for my turn; half heartedly watching the person before me, admittedly too engrossed in myself. My hands were shaking so hard I thought they might fall off. Sweat was beginning to roll down my face. After what felt like years, it was my turn to take the stage. As I walked out with my head held high, I entered adulthood in the danceworld. This pivotal transition from childhood to adulthood is the first solo performed at a competition. My first solo was almost seven years ago, when I was about ten, and it was one of the most nerve wracking experiences I ve ever had. It all began when my dance teacher asked me if it was something I would be interested in, and of course I was. I was filled to the brim with
  • 7. Freudian Theory Into Lord Of The Flies The psychological makeup of a person has a significant influence on the quality of their decisions and behaviors. Golding incorporates the theme of Freudian theory into Lord of the Flies to present a psychological meaning that explains the struggles associated within everyone. Various symbols justify the characters as specific parts of Freud s analysis of the human personality. In Lord of the Flies, Golding establishes a psychological meaning through the use of symbolism to personify Piggy, Jack, Ralph and Roger as the specific traits of the superego, ego, and id in Sigmund Freuds structural model of personality. During most of the book, Piggy displays the superego of Freud s psychological analysis through the symbolism of clothing, the conch, his glasses, and the fire. The symbolism of the fire and the glasses are linked together to support the theme of the Freudian theory. The fire which the children foster and guard on the mountain in the hope of communicating with the adult world is lighted with his glasses. In mythology, after all, the theft of fire brought civilization and, hence, repression to man. As the new community becomes more and more irrational, its irrationality is marked by Piggy s progressive blindness (Rosenfield). The symbolism of Piggy s glasses and the fire support that Piggy is the most intelligent, rational boy in the group. Since Piggy is intelligent, he is constantly reminding Ralph of the wisest decisions, such as keeping the fire

Cell is a wide type of substance that have variations between species and species, for example a plant cell contains a cell wall which is absent in most animal cells. Scientists had been trying to classify all organisms into different groups. Current classification system is the three domains and six kingdoms which the three domain divides organisms based on the ribosomal RNA they contained in the cells. The three domains are Bacteria, Archaea and Eukarya which the first two are made up of prokaryotic cells and Eukarya is made up of eukaryotic cells. This essay will focus on the differences between eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells. To start with, the first eukaryotic and prokaryotic cell appeared at different time mainly because to their requirements for survive. • 9. Stormwater Research Paper Stormwater Essay If you ask any ECS student about their school, one detail you always hear is the vibrant, happy, community, and that is reflected everywhere throughout the school. Most people, however, will only ever experience ECS as they walk through Frick Park, which only provides a view of the backlot. Being in an older building, the backlot was not meant to reflect ECS s values, and instead, reflected the exact opposite. Whether it was the chain link fence, the deteriorating asphalt, or something else, most people got the wrong impression of ECS. Not only that, but students would often spend time there, and also feel indoors, when they in a school about the outdoors. All of this has earned it the name, The Blacktop . When the school got a 10,000 dollar grant, we set out to make that change. Beautification is not the only challenge we faced, as another major problem of the backlot is stormwater. When dealing with water issues, there are two types of solutions: green and gray infrastructure. More common, and what the backlot used to use, gray infrastructure solves water problems by directing them elsewhere. The drains we had went to Nine Mile Run, which later led to the Monongahela river, that led to the Ohio river. The problem is that gray infrastructure is built for convenience, not the environment, so it isn t the right solution for ECS. Green infrastructure, a newer solution, is based on mimicking what nature has done so effectively to deal with water for thousands of years. So really, it isn t new, it s ancient. There are many types of green infrastructure, and we used two of them: bioswales and rain

Of course, it is evident that recycling, is one option to reduce our ecological impact on the planet, but a good place to start is to minimize our usage of plastics. According to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), the three main forms of fossil fuels are coal, crude oil, and natural gas. Coal is extracted from the earth through surface mining or underground mining, depending on the depth and concentration of the coal reserves, and crude oil is extracted in liquid form from underground reservoirs, oil shale, or tar sands deposits. Once extracted, crude oil is refined to create gasoline, fuel oil, and a variety of

  • 15. Asymmetric Threats Essay Currently there are several definitions of asymmetric threats listed throughout the internet as well as other literature. The definition that best sums up the meaning in my view is leveraging unconventional tactics against a superior opponent with the goal of disrupting the willingness to achieve the operational objectives. The most common and current example of this would be the insurgency tactics used in Iraq and Afghanistan. The United States must not assume those tactics and strategies will only be used abroad. The same asymmetric threats our country s security initiative is facing are the same challenges are seaports are facing. Some examples of the potential asymmetric threats the United States seaport faces are nuclear weapons,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The impact of a chemical environment would also lessen the dominance of a United States military operation. The United States military is commonly known to operate both deployment and re deployment operations at specific ports of embarkation and debarkation; making targeting for a chemical attack fairly simple. Like chemical weapons, biological weapons are easy to obtain, but the area covered by such an attack is fairly small and limited. The most effective area to use a chemical weapon on a seaport would be the operation center of that port due to the limited damage it will cause to the infrastructure. The psychological effect of VX or Sarin would devastate any port operation and to trace the origin of the agents would prove to be very difficult. The most common vulnerabilities to seaports exist due to the geographical location and the amount of activity surrounding most seaports. Highways, railways, and joining waterways create many security issues and make larger seaports terrorist strategic targets. The sheer size of the sea requires numerous resources and assets from agencies such as the United States Coast Guard. The task of monitoring and securing seaports is an international challenge because the United States trade goods with various countries. Security standards vary from country to country causing any substandard port to become an

Their influence had carried on past the 1970 s, the time of their highest peak of popularity when they had toured extensively. Almost instantaneously they had become a hit, performing four concert tours in the US within their very first year. As time went on, many heavy metal bands such as Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Queen, and Aerosmith as well as punk bands like the Ramones had been impacted by Zeppelin and showed similar music styles in their own work. This action had forever hindered the relationship between Plant and his band members. • 17. A Marxist Reading of Shakespeare s Coriolanus Essay examples A Marxist Reading of Coriolanus One popular dissecting instrument of any Shakespearean character is the modern tool of psychoanalysis. Many of Shakespeare s great tragic heroes Macbeth, Hamlet, King Lear, and Othello, to name a few have all been understood by this method of plying back and interpreting the layers of motivation and desire that constitute every individual. Add to this list Shakespeare s Roman warrior Coriolanus. His strong maternal ties coupled with his aggressive and intractable nature have been ideal fodder for modern psychoanalytic interpretation. This interpretation, however, falls within a larger, political context. For despite the fact that Coriolanus is a tragedy largely because of the foibles of its title ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Marxism, essentially, is a theory of the proletarian liberation movement. This theory is dialectic in that society is seen as a composition of contraries (e.g., rich vs. poor), and that what makes humanity evolve is the struggle between these contraries. The triumph of one over the other produces change. Change, however, is resisted by the ruling class because most, if not all, of the wealth is concentrated in their hands; they in turn control the means of production, allowing them to exploit the workers for their own ends and widen the gap between the rich and poor even more in the process. This situation produces alienation in the worker; it deprives him of something, and this is not only degrading but depersonalizing as well (Appignanesi, 79). From this perspective, Menenius fable of the belly is clearly fallacious and intended to instill a false state of consciousness in his listeners. The tale deflects the cause of the plebeians hunger from the patricians right back at the plebeians themselves: ... For the dearth, The gods, not the patricians, make it, and Your knees to them, not arms, must help (I.i.63 65). Modern capitalist apologists use much the same argument as this, only instead of directing the working class to pray to the gods to better their lot in life, they

In their textbook, Smolin and colleagues state that resveratrol [...] may help to prevent cardiovascular disease (2, p.479). Indeed, observational studies have provided evidence that populations that regularly consume substantial amount of the compound resveratrolalso have a lower incidence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) (3,4). One meta analysis calculated that drinking 150 mL of red wine (containing resveratrol) per day provided the optimal protection from cardiovascular disease (5). However, no experimental evidence exists to directly link resveratrol supplementation with incidence of cardiovascular disease. A growing body of experimental evidence... Twenty healthy, age matched (36 years of age, on average) subjects were randomized to either receive 200 mg of Polygonum cuspidatum extract (PCE) (containing 40 mg of resveratrol) or a placebo daily for 6 weeks. Blood samples were collected at baseline and at 1, 3 and 6 weeks. Oxidative stress was determined by analyzing blood for reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation. Inflammatory state was determined by assessing nuclear NFKB DNA binding activity (via gel shift assay) and TNFО± mRNA expression (via PCR testing). Resveratrol supplementation was found to significantly reduce ROS generation, NFKB DNA binding activity, and TNFО± mRNA expression compared to both baseline and the placebo group at 3 and 6 weeks. (see figure 1). The authors therefore concluded that 6 weeks of a resveratrol containing supplement could reduce both oxidative stress and inflammation. A major weakness of the study is that the authors failed to report the sex of the subjects making it challenging to compare these findings with other studies. Furthermore, this study used a PCE supplement, which contains several other antioxidants in addition to resveratrol. The possibility therefore remains that these other compounds or an interaction effect could have been responsible for some of changes that were observed. A study conducted by Yoshino and colleagues was conducted to determine the

Inspired by the work of Hans Gross, it was Edmond that created the concept that all objects of any material should leave traces of itself upon whatever it touches, even if it is the minutest amount, simply put as Every Contact leaves a trace, Locard (1923). This is commonly known as Locard s Exchange Principle. He believed that in circumstances such as a crime, his principle could be used to find evidence of who and perhaps even how that crime was committed by finding small materials, either physical or chemical at the scene of the crime that would directly link back to the offender.... If a window is pryed open to gain entry to building, the screwdriver used to pry it open will share different properties to every other. By studying the `striation` marks on a window, we will clearly be able to see that there are a certain number of grooves that make the mark. By comparing this to the screwdriver that was found in a suspects house, this could show that this was the screwdriver was used in the offence. This could then be used as evidence in court to prosecute the said suspect. Individualisation is pretty much based upon inductive reasoning; which is used a lot in Forensic Investigations. By saying we have never seen two screwdrivers the same leads us to believe that there are no two screwdrivers in the world. The same refers to the uniqueness of fingerprints, a pair has never been found; but if a pair was ever to be found, this would mean the entire theory of individualisation would fall apart. Referring back to Popper s work on falsifiability, is it possible to prove that this theory can be wrong? In order to do so you would have to check every single item of that class ever made in great detail. This is too much to check on and so there is no way we can prove this test to be false. • 43. Depictions of the Afterlife The afterlife as a residence for souls after death has long been a topic of discussion and debate. This idea intrigues many. As Christians we believe that heaven is a place where believers go where life there will be a continuation of their present life, while hell is a place of judgment and punishment where many experience severe treatment. Direct experience is the only way individuals can experience these concepts, but once we obtain the experience it cannot be shared. This ultimately makes us want to know more leading many to visualize the afterlife. Starting with the earliest Greek Epics, such as The Iliad, society has imagined an Underworld, a place beneath the Earth where souls go once the body dies. Our thoughts and expectations about such an idea have changed over time; the idea of the Underworld continues in many Greek and Latin poems and it still used today (Spiegel). The best descriptions of the afterlife are found in Dante s Divine Comedy. In his first book, The Inferno, Dante explores Hell, a place in which sinners dwell after they die. His account is mainly taken from Book VI of Virgils The Aeneid, which describes Aeneas s journey into the Underworld to visit his father. These two works, written many years apart share similar ideas about life after deathand it makes us consider the changes in society s thoughts over these times. There are obvious differences found between these two stories and they correlate with the different beliefs society has about the

Jitter and shimmer are measures of the cycle to cycle variations of fundamental frequency and amplitude, respectively, which have been largely used for the description of pathological voice quality. Jitter is also known as frequency perturbation and refers to the minute involuntary variations in the timing variability between cycles of vibration. In essence, it is a measure of frequency variability in comparison to the client s fundamental frequency. Research shows that jitter values in normal voices range from 0.2 to 1 percent. (Ferrand, 2007) Jitter values above this level indicate that the vocal folds are vibrating in a way that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The vocal note produced by the vibrations of the vocal folds is complex and made up of periodic (regular and repetitive) and aperiodic (irregular and non repetitive) sound waves. The aperiodic waves are random noise introduced into the vocal signal owing to irregular or asymmetric adduction (closing) of the vocal folds. Noise impairs the clarity of the vocal note and too much noise is perceived as hoarseness. The Harmonics to Noise (HNR) ratio is a measure of the proportion of harmonic sound to noise in the voice measured in decibels. (Ferrand, 2007). HNR quantifies the relative amount of additive noise (Awen Frankel, 1994) The lower the HNR, the more noise in the voice. Laryngeal pathology may lead to poor adduction of the vocal folds and, therefore, increase the amount of random noise in the vocal note. If a person has some kind of problem in vibrating the vocal folds, due to a growth, paralysis of one or both vocal folds, or other kind of laryngeal problem, a larger amount of air escapes during vibration, creating turbulent noise. (Pabon Plomp, 1988) The greater the proportion of noise, the greater the perceived hoarseness, breathiness or roughness and the lower the HNR figure will be, i.e. a low HNR indicates a high level of hoarseness, and a high HNR indicates a low level of hoarseness. There is a strong relationship between how we perceive voice quality and the harmonic to noise ratio (Ferrand, 2007).
