Persuasive Essay On Mt. Everest
The issue of Mt.Everest and whether it should be open to the public or not is an issue that has recently
risen as many mountaineers do not like the idea of it as it is an exhilarating thing to do that gives them
a sense of achievement and although there are many risks and challenges people enjoy the activity and
believe that it should stay open to the public. Mountaineering as of recent years has gotten much safer
as they now use steroids and bottled oxygen because of the high altitude. It is becoming safer may not
necessarily be a good thing as it is also very expensive, as in the second source they state that Each
and every one of them had paid $10,000 for a climbing permit and even after having to pay a large
amount of money for simply a climbing permit they run a great risk of death. ... Show more content on

One of the things that has been proposed to do a 3 year moratorium, which would temporarily prohibit
people from climbing the mountain which I m sure would not gravely affect anyone and would only
insure the safety of them or increase it. The idea itself wouldn t change much nor would it affect
anyone in any way other than giving them the inability to climb just that mountain, it could open more
opportunities for new experiences as they would likely be forced to go to new places if they ever had

Hernan Cortes Ransom Of The Ancient Aztecs
The ancient Aztecs lived thousands of years ago in what is now known today as Mexico, before their
collapse. In 1519, Hernan Cortes arrived with a fleet of ships after rumour had spread of a city
containing great wealth. It was believed that Cortes arrival coincided with an ancient Aztec prophecy
about a pale skinned and bearded god arriving from the east. Cortes was welcomed by the king of
Tenochtitlan, Montezuma. He gave Cortes many gifts, such as precious stones, gold and chocolate.
Cortes was welcomed to Tenochtitlan and even given a place to live, but soon their bonds deteriorated,
and, fearing attack from the Aztec people, Cortes kidnapped Montezuma, demanding a huge ransom
from the Aztec people. However, they did not like Montezuma

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Raman Spectroscopy
Raman spectroscopy (RS) as a powerful analytical method have widely been employed in
characterization of different kinds of chemical species. Discovery of RS dates back to previous
century which first proposed by C.V. Raman and his colleague K.S. Krishnan. This scattering
technique involves electromagnetic interaction of an incident monochromatic laser beam with
molecules of a matter. Each of different vibrational, rotational and other modes of molecular motions
in target molecule can alter both the frequency (as wavelength shift) and intensity of the laser beam
(called inelastic scattering) which gives a specific fingerprint through which a molecule can be
identified. Typical RS spectra involves a diagram of intensity vs wavelength shift. ... Show more

Beta2 adrenergic agonist (βAA) drugs including clenbuterol (CB), salbutamol (SB), and terbutaline
(TB) causes a βAA effect and can be illegally used by athletes to increase their performance. For this
reason, WADA regulates (SB, TB) and even prohibits (CB) consumption to control their abuse. In this
regard, Lorenzo et al. investigate the adsorption of βAA drugs (CB, SB and TB) on noble metal
surface with the aim of establishing of SERS as an alternative antidoping test method. Their results
indicates that the Au substrates and also acidic pH are optimal conditions for accurate and effective
detection of these drugs. Beside, their corresponding LOD is calculated based on Langmuir adsorption
and given in table 3. Although the major therapeutic uses of probenecid (p (dipropylsulphamyl)
benzoic acid (PB) are reduction of renal excretion antibiotics and treatment of gout, due to its masking
effect in urine (especially βAA) and interference in antidoping tests is banned by WADA. PB for the
first time is studied by Lorenzo et al. through spectroscopic specially SERS technique. They create a
detection protocol for PB considering different factor such as metal reduction method and pH of
media and also study adsorption mechanism in detail. They reported LOD of PB by SERS at
concentration as low as 1.2

Compare And Contrast Jamestown And Plymouth Colonies
Another component comparing Jamestown and Plymouth colonies would be their aspects on Indian
relations. The English colonists arrived in Chesapeake Bay where the Powhatan Indians had been
calling home for quite some time. There were over thirty Indian tribes totaling 14,000 Indians. This is
where the first colony, Jamestown, was settled in 1607. I believe this created a lot of tension between
the Indians and the new settlers considering the previous settling and attacks of the Spanish on the
Indians. The Indians lived such a generous way of life welcoming the new English settlers by offering
them food. However, the good intentions faded quickly after. The leader of the Powhatan Indians,
Powhatan, was intending to entice the English through generosity and their selfless attitudes. Sure
enough, this act of kindness was overlooked by the English colonists, and they immediately began
searching for wealth such as tobacco. As we have spoken about in class, Jamestown was a colony that
significantly valued material objects and wealth; whereas Plymouth colony did not focus their rule
around that idea. The new colonists were so set on acquiring wealth that they failed to grow crops
such as corn and beans. This led the English to depend more on the Indians for food since the Indians
were very successful farmers and knew how to live off the land. John Smith s leadership swooped in
and saved the colony of Jamestown. He conducted means of exploring the land and gathering

Descent From The Cross Analysis
Group 1, Question A
Catalina s masculine behaviors in her autobiography demonstrates how gender was socially
constructed in both Europe and America during the colonial era. One scene in particular is,
Meanwhile, some boys noticed me and surrounded me until, annoyed, I picked up some rocks and
injured one of them (I don t know where because I didn t see) They arrested me and kept me in jail for
one long month until he healed and they released me, with a little money remaining after my expenses
(2). In this scene she stands her own ground against a group of men with violence rather than
submitting to them or running away. Women during this era were not expected to defend themselves
or fight back. That is more acceptable action for men to perform. Her violent behavior put her in jail
not because she is unjust for defending herself, but because she struck a man and it was not socially
acceptable for a woman to do so. During this era women were not scene to act violently or hit men
because it was not a norm or an action women for women to do.

In this portrait there are about seven people helping Jesus from the cross after his death. This painting
seems to be have been painted in a Baroque style because it reflects emphasizes on emotion and
demonstrates a historical event in the Holy Bible. This painting also uses the intense devastated
emotions of Jesus followers having to take down a man they believe is all powerful down from the
cross. This makes me think of The Autobiography of Doña Catalina de Erauso because of Jesus dying
on the cross to forgive the sins of the people is the most unselfish act one man to do, therefore, they

Government Corruption In Nigeria
Several factors contribute to a country s insecurity and decline of a country s inability to effectively
enact policies that benefit, protect and ensure the wellbeing of a country s citizens. Consequentially, if
a country fails to outline and properly address problems within its own domestic domain, it stands to
reason that the country has not successfully securitized the issue, which permits its sovereignty to be
threatened. For the focus of this argument, this paper will examine the ineffectual securitization of
governmental corruption in Nigeria through deliberate neglect of malpractices in government and the
implementation of poor policies and norms that pervade the system and create insecurity, instability,
threats and hinder the welfare of the populace. To begin this examination, an understanding of the
issue is necessary to receive a full appreciation of why Nigeria s failures in securitizing the issue of
corruption is important to the argument. This unsuccessful securitization is possible because within
government corruption, while being tied particularly to the act of bribery, is a general term covering
misuse of authority as a result of considerations of personal gain, which need not be monetary (Bayley
720). Correspondingly, it is imperative for this overarching argument to comprehend this concept
because the quote allows for the conclusion that corruption influences the root of decision making by
enticing leaders and policy makers into acting in ways that

The Women s Suffrage Movement
In 1776, Abigail Adams writes to her husband, John Adams, asking him to remember the ladies in the
new code of laws. Adams replies, The men will fight the despotism of the petticoat. Through feminist
movements and new laws being passed, women gained the right to vote. The women s suffrage
movement began in 1848 at the Seneca Falls Convention. The Seneca Falls Convention was organized
by Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton (Newman). In 1851, Elizabeth Cady Stanton was
introduced by a mutual friend to another feminist that was also doing a lot of work for the women s
suffrage movement. This was Susan B. Anthony. Anthony and Stanton formed the Woman s National

Wild Yeast Research Paper
I thought this story idea might pique your interest.
Due to revelations about the nature of wild yeast, curious brewers have a new ingredient to explore. In
the near future, yeast obtained from wasp guts might make the leap from the lab bench to the beer hall.
Nut
The next time you reach for a newspaper to squash a reviled bug, think about this: wasps and other
insects do a lot more for humans than ruin our picnics. Insects also provide essential environmental
services, such as, pollinating crops, and in the coming years, stinging insects might serve as the
catalyst for new styles of beer. For beer nerds, it would be an opportunity to try something new, while
presenting brewers with the chance to add a new dimension of their ancient ... Show more content on

Typically, they re loath to introduce wild strains of yeast to their product, because they tend to impart
funky off putting flavors. So when Sebastian Ibarra, an entomologist and instructor at Simon Fraser
University, approached the chief brewer Condrad Gsomer at BrassNeck Brewery with news that his
lab partners had isolated a beneficial strain of wild yeast found in wasp intestines, Gsomer became
intrigued.
After all, Humans have experimented with fermentation for thousands of years, and it may be our
greatest feat since the taming of fire. The discovery of yeast in wasp guts also speaks volumes about
the appeal of alcohol to a broad cross section of the animal kingdom, ranging from fig wasps to
humans clinking beer steins.
The question is, can wild yeast extracted from wasp guts work also wonders for beer and where does
that lead? At least two research labs based in North America are investigating this phenomena and
both teams are willing to discuss their forays into flavor with wild yeast at the helm.

The Importance of Liquids
A study report in The Permanente Journal revealed that most anal problems are because of the lack of
liquid intake. Drinking a good amount of liquid will contribute in keeping the stool soft. It will easily
pass through the intestines. You will stay away from constipation, which is responsible for
hemorrhoids. Soft stools pass easily without causing irritation to the hemorrhoids.

A good amount of fiber in your diet will regulate the bowel movements and will keep your digestion
proper. Fiber in your diet will absorb water, this will make your stool soft and it will pass easily.

Ivan Denisovich Survival
Survival and preservation of humanity are among two important themes in Alexander Solzhenitsyn s,
One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich. Through the main protagonist, Ivan Denisovich Shukhov, the
audience is transported into the reality of Stalinist repression. Throughout the novel, Solzhenitsyn
makes it clear that freedom is not a cut and dry issue. Rather, when one is focused on survival and
maintaining their dignity, some element(s) of freedom are still possible even during the most
oppressive times. 1. The author makes it clear very early on in the book that the idea of freedom is
subjective and complicated. While one would reasonably believe that men forced into labor camps
cannot possibly be free, there is more than what meets the eye. For the men that want nothing more
than to maintain some aspect of individuality during their harsh sentences, there are opportunities. For
example, Shukov mentions his spoon throughout the book. He must hide his spoon in his boot because
he is forbidden to have such personal items. Similarly, another prisoner known as Tsezar receives
mysterious and lavish packages from the outside world. These examples, regardless of how small they
may seem, allow the prisoners to have at least a small part of normalcy in their lives and is the closest
they will get to freedom. Solzhenitsyn says, The great thing about a penal camp was you had a hell of
a lot of freedom. Back in Ust Izhma if you said they couldn t get matches outside they put

Defense Attorneys
I feel that defense attorneys are typically viewed negatively by the general public, after all, isn t their
job to find the loopholes in a case in order to get someone accused of a heinous crime off scot free? To
be fair and honest, I have felt that way in the past. That is, however, until I began researching some of
the numerous wrongful conviction cases that are coming to light in the United States. According to the
National Registry of Exonerations, there have been 2102 exonerations in the U.S. since they began
keeping track in 1989 ( The National Registry of Exonerations Exoneration Registry, 2017). That is

As we saw in the video clip, defendants aren t always upfront with the fact involved in their cases.
Sometimes it can be likened to pulling teeth or herding cats, not a job for the faint of heart. When you
combine the lack of information, long hours, low pay and an overwhelming caseload, you get a career
that is equal parts rewarding and frustrating. I feel that defendants tend to have a lack of faith and trust
in their attorneys, especially those that are appointed. According to our textbook, those facing serious
charges and long jail terms tend to have less confidence in their attorneys, particularly court appointed
attorneys. It s a common rhetoric that the public defender s office is both understaffed and
overworked. But, as our textbook goes on to state, those defense attorneys that take little time they
have to develop relationships with their clients tend to garner their client s trust (Siegel, Schmalleger
Worrall, 2015). Perhaps, the accused is feeling overwhelmed by the process, or they are feeling as if
they are not being heard and by spending a little time with them the attorneys allow the defendant to
feel, at least for a little while, as if they have some control over their

Aspiration Pneumonia Research Paper
A gastrostomy tube requires anesthesia during placement and has risks associated with the use of
anesthesia. There is also a risk of infection of the abdominal wall and peritonitis which is a life
threatening infection of the abdominal cavity. Also gastrointestinal bleeding, blockage of the bowel or
perforation of the bowel may occur. Diarrhea from the feeding formula is fairly common. Aspiration
pneumonia is also common and if the person requires restraints to keep from pulling the tube out, the
same complications listed above can occur. There is no good evidence that demonstrates that
gastrostomy tubes, or tubes into the small intestine, prevent aspiration pneumonia in a person who has
difficulty swallowing. In fact, there is good evidence in persons with advanced Alzheimer s disease
that gastrostomy tubes actually cause more harm than if no tube has been placed. Moreover, other
evidence shows that tube feeding may actually increase episodes of aspiration pneumonia. Careful
feeding by hand is a better alternative (Arenella, n.d.). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Summary Of The Night Room Of Mirrors
He tried to remain calm, but a panic was taking hold of Jim at his very core. Susan and her safety
played on his mind, regardless of the danger he was currently facing. Jim shook his head back and
forth as a means of clearing away the mental fog. He refused to remain trapped in an inescapable room
of mirrors.
Looking up to the mirror he happened to be facing, Jim took a moment to steel himself. A few deep
breaths prepared him for his next move, which was sure to be a smashing one. He jumped up and
down on the spot a few times and then barreled forward with one shoulder out front in a football
tackle stance. The collision with the mirror was harder than he expected it to be, but the twinkling
sound of smashed glass was exactly as he imagined.
He felt a few small shards cut his exposed face and neck, but nothing serious enough to end his search.
Having made it through the glass, Jim dragged his heels to slow his momentum and come to a
complete stop. There was another long hallway behind the smashed mirror as though a door was
meant to be in place of the mirror all along. It did not take long for Jim to decide between staying in
the hall of mirrors or chancing the contents of the hallway extended before him. He was soon jogging
down a carpeted corridor toward the next room of carnage and oddities.

Steep Analysis
Introduction
This paper contains a STEEP (Social, Technological, Environmental, Economical and Political)
analysis of the implications on sustainability in construction. The STEEP analysis will be based on 5
different peer reviewed journals that I have read on each area of STEEP. These journals will be cross
examined and compared to one another to see if there is any correlation between them. Firstly I will
talk about each journal and summarize what it is about; I will then try and relate the journals to each
other in some way. If one journal cannot be related to any of the others, I will state this in my
conclusion and provide a reason why there is no connection or relationship between that specific
journal and the others.

Northern Ireland s sustainable development strategies and policies are discussed next, how the
environment has been at the bottom of the investment list, and that change is coming about with the
newly proposed Sustainable Development Strategy due to come in on May 2006. The agenda of this
strategy is explained and priority areas are listed, but the paper goes on to explain that unless all
government policies are engaged, then this strategy will not work. The link between sustainable
development and health is then explained and that it doesn t make sense to have one without the other.
This link is then explained by talking about the public health strategy in Northern Ireland which ties in
with the Northern Ireland Fuel Poverty Strategy (Department of Social Development; 2004). The two
are related because the health of those who had no money for fuel deteriorated because they had to
live in cold and damp dwellings with mould on the walls.
The Author s feel that in order to promote sustainable health and development in the island of Ireland,
an integrated approach is essential which would mean that those working in Public health
organisations must work along with those from environmental health.

Immigration Autobiography
I was born in Odessa, former Soviet Union and presently Ukraine; there I lived my first thirty three
years. Now I am a proud citizen of United States of America, my adopted country, the country I love,
and truly consider mine. So many things and events leading to our departure and details of the
immigration process now are vague in my memory, but I do not want to forget them completely; also,
there are grandkids that someday may want to know a little about their roots. Although, I realize that
my story was very typical and thousands of other families had similar experiences, I still want to recall
as much as possible and be as truthful as possible, while describing our passage to America. In the
year 1965, I was twenty years old (not very matured), when Victor and I were married. Our daughter,

explain the Soviet system of apartment distribution: to become eligible to only stay in line for an
apartment (even co op that we later paid for) each person must occupy no more than 4 sq. meters or 36
sq. feet. For my parents, husband, daughter, and I our apartment had to be no more than 720 sq. feet or
the size of average one bedroom apartment in America. My parent s apartment was slightly bigger.
Thinking that I will have to spend the rest of my life sharing apartment with my parents made me
desperate, (my mom was not very fond of my husband and the feeling was mutual, although their
relationship improved after we moved out). Victor saved the situation by falsifying the size of our
apartment to fit the draconian

setting and conflict. Act 1 also introduces most of the characters who are seen throughout this play,
like Polonius, the chief counselor to the new King Claudius. Polonius has a rather interesting character
development in this act, and this is evident through his relationship with his kids, his relationship with
the king, and his own self centeredness Polonius is described as an old man in this play, and that is
supported with the fact that he has a son who is in college in France. His other child is Ophelia, who
just so happens to be courting with none other than Prince Hamlet. To Polonius, both of his children
are each in a situation that requires tact and wit. Even though they both live separate lives from their

Contrary to Laertes s, his lecture with her is about her relationship with Prince Hamlet, and believes
his vows, for they are brokers (1.3.136). He means by this that Hamlet is just a pimp that is leading
her to sinful acts. Polonius does not believe that he is being true when he says he loves Ophelia, and
has a right not to. After all, he is the Prince, and royalty usually marry royalty. He also believes that
Hamlet is just using her, and that she should Tender yourself [Ophelia] more clearly, / Or (not to crack
the wind of the poor phrase, / Running it thus) you ll tender me a fool (1.3.117 118). This statement
was said in the context that Hamlet is showing his tenders of affection to Ophelia, tenders meaning not
legal tender. The first part of this charge tells Ophelia that she should be careful with who she accepts
love from. This is a loving statement from father to daughter, and receives no reward when in the
shadow of the last part of this statement, which has three meanings. The second half of this charge
mostly means that she will either make herself look like a fool, or make Polonius look like a fool. This
meaning shows Polonius s true character, that he is concerned with himself most of all. Considering
his reputation, this claim is understood, yet still looked down upon by most readers. The other, and
more serious, meaning of Polonius s comment is that Ophelia will give Polonius a grandchild. This is
drawn from the alternate meaning of fool, which is a term of endearment toward babies. If Ophelia
had a child with the Prince, this would also make Polonius look bad because she would have done it
out of wedlock, and thus reveals his character even more. He is very self centered, and this is
supported by his behavior around the

The Call Of Cthulhu Or A Portent Of Nuclear Destruction
The Call of Cthulhu or a Portent of Nuclear Destruction Howard Phillip Lovecraft died in 1937 nearly
a decade before the advent of the atomic bomb and the start of the nuclear age which brought a new
sense of fear and paranoia that lasts to this day. Is it possible that within his works of science fiction
and horror he, without knowing or realizing it, foresaw the coming of this new terror before it entered
the minds of man? Could the titular creature in The Call of Cthulhu be a monstrous personification of
nuclear destruction? Is it, that in trying to capture man s fear of the unknown, he actually touched on a

Nursing Peer Review Committee
Peer review is the assessment of nursing services, the quality of patient care provided by nurses, the
benefits of a complaint concerning a nurse or a nursing care, and a purpose regarding a complaint. The
nursing review committee is a process in which fact finding, analysis and study of events by nurses in
a climate of mutual problem solving focused on obtaining all relevant information about an event.
Section 303.0015(c) requires that nursing peer review committee that conducts a peer review involves

Incident based peer (IBPR) review occurs when a hospital receives a complaint regarding a nurse s

Revelation and Rebirth in Helena Viramonte s The Moths
The famous phrase looks may be deceiving strongly pertains to Helena Viramontes s short story, The
Moths. The story, instead of focusing the creatures in the title, is actually about a young girl who
comes of age as she is faced with the deterioration and death of her grandmother. Even though the
title, The Moths, seems to have no relevance at the beginning, these creatures help to portray a sense
of spirituality, rebirth, and become, finally, an incarnation of the grandmother. The relationship
between the moths and the main characters aids in conveying the main theme of the story, which is not
simply the death of a loved one, but a spiritual and maturing experience ... Show more content on

Before Abuelita dies the author uses the sun to describe rebirths: There comes a time when the sun is
defiant . . . a second when the sun is finally defeated, finally sinks into the realization that it cannot
with all its power to heal or burn exist forever . . . although endings are inevitable, they are necessary
for rebirths (1241). This description is very precise in the sense of rebirths because the sun dies and
then is reborn every morning. The quote and when that time came [sunset], just when I switched on
the light . . . was probably then that she died (1241) refers back to the spiritual aspect of the light
being heaven, and this is when the doors of heaven first open for Abuelita. Abuelita?s rebirth is of
spiritual nature and is started when the moths carry her soul through the doors of heaven.
Through the spiritual rebirth of the grandmother, the grandchild experiences a spiritual and personal
rebirth of her own. It is the death of her grandmother which helps her mature or see the light. Evidence
of the grandchild maturing is seen in the contrast between the beginning when she remarks, I wasn?t
respectful either I even went so far as to doubt the power of Abuelita?s slices (1239) and her respectful
behavior at the end. The regret she feels for the way she acted becomes apparent in the end when she
is toweling her grandmother?s body. Notable evidence of the grandchild?s change in attitude is

Galveston Island Case Study
Introduction Galveston Island is rich in history and has population history that archeologist have dated
back to Native Americans. It was settled by Europeans and established as a port for the Republic of
Mexico. It was rich in immigration and dominated trade. It has a history of turmoil caused by war and
natural disasters. Galveston Island formed as a typical barrier island. Galveston s formation took place
5000 years ago, as wind and wave energy along with rising sea water levels moved sand around to
form the island. The wave and wind energy is indicative of storm surge often caused by hurricane
interaction. The building up of Galveston Island continued until 3000 years ago. The coastal shoreline
continues to change and those changes appear to be happening more rapidly than once believed. There
are several things that impact the changing shoreline of Galveston Island including; changes in sea
level, subsidence, erosion, and destruction of coastal protections like dunes, marshes, and wetlands, all
of which are highly impacted by powerful storms and hurricanes. Discussion ... Show more content on

When the sea level rises, this can be due to multiple factors including climate change and subsidence.
Climate change and warming reports identify that postglacial temperature has increased 13°F in the

sea levels. As sea water warms, it expands and takes up more room causing sea levels to rise.
Additionally, melting glacial ice cause the rise of sea level and is due to climate warming as

A. Sample Used
Sample Used: Siling Labuyo (Capsicum frutesceus)
B. Procedure 1. Column Chromatography The pigments of the red siling labuyo were extracted using
DCM hexane (1:1). Portions of the extracts were set a side for Thin Layer Chromatography. In
preparing the column chromatography set up, the column was plugged with cotton and uniformly
packed with silica gel up to the intended part of the dropping pipette. 0.5 mL of the extract was then
placed on top of the column using a pipette. The pigment mixture was eluted using 10 mL of DCM
hexane (1:1) and afterwards introduced in portions. The members were instructed not to allow the
column to run dry. The colorless eluates were discarded while the colored eluates were collected in
separate test tubes. The number of drops of the eluate collected in each test tube was noted.

Personification Of Autumn Summary
Whether it was fate, an act of the gods, or just a coincidence of nature, the earth was tilted on its axis
at creation, resulting in the phenomenon of seasons as it endlessly orbits the sun. Winter, spring,
summer, and fall. The seasons come and go as do the unique features that each one holds. But is each
season treasured equally to its individual worth? Or do they all blend together as time slips through the
world s fingers? The beauty of life found within Autumn can t be fully appreciated until the limit of
time and inability to avoid death is accepted.
In the first stanza, Keats develops his ode to Autumn through vivid imagery detailing his appreciation
for the season s life as well as his acknowledgement of the death that succeeds it. Although fall is a
transition to death, the season itself symbolizes a harvest of life, shown through the personification of
Autumn as a Close bosom friend of the maturing sun; Conspiring with him how to load and bless With
fruit the vines that round the thatch eves run. The detailed imagery of the sun and Autumn working
together to bring about the life of the season reveals the speaker s respect for the natural beauty and
life created by the season. However, death is not entirely absent from the first stanza, as the diction of
the maturing sun reveals that the speaker is aware that fall will not last forever, and the death of winter
will eventually take over. The speaker s internal conflict over the inevitable loss of Autumn is shown

Hypocrisy in the Scarlet Letter
Hypocrisy in the Scarlet Letter
Truth was the one virtue which I might have held fast... save when thy good thy life thy fame were put
into question. These words spoken by Hester Prynne in The Scarlet Letter display her practice of
situational morals and hypocrisy. Hawthorne displays this major element of human nature, hypocrisy
in all characters save young Pearl who is blatantly unique from most people. Dimmesdale, Hester, and
the entire Puritan community are hypocrites, and their hypocrisy manifests itself in the conflict of this
novel. Hawthorne created a drastic difference between the inward and outward lives of everyone in
this story and they can be related to the hypocrisy present in modern society. People never change, ...

When Hester is put upon the scaffold, many women speak of how this punishment is not harsh
enough, that public humiliation is too easy for a woman who made a personal choice of who she
wanted to be with but instead they believe that Hester should be branded with a hot iron. While these
women stand comfortably on the ground with their fingers pointed, one could speculate that at the
very least some of them have sinned privately as well, and they also deserve the stigma of the scarlet
letter.
The Scarlet Letter is an example of how any society can be haunted by hypocrisy. In this book every
character gives in to hypocrisy and it is the source of their misery by creating animosity amongst each
other as well as stigmas and guilt on the sinners. Even though this novel was written over a century
ago, its message is still true for modern society. Society would be a better place if it were not so
harmed by the hypocritical nature of most people, when someone s inward self and outward self agree
with each other, then they are truly honest.

programs. Lost to represent Kentucky citizens in this twentieth century movement toward a more
popular iconography are the sacrificial contributions for the Union cause made by ordinary
Kentuckians during the Civil War. As events unfolded in the 1860s domestic crisis between the Blue
and Gray, Kentucky s Appalachian residents provided a bastion of physical and strategic support for
those that marched and fought in the uniform of the darker hue. In 1897, future President Theodore
Roosevelt singled out Kentucky s Appalachian citizens impact on the war proclaiming when the full
history of the war is written we shall realize more than we do our debt to the loyal people of the
South...there (was) a larger proportion of descendants of revolutionary soldiery in Kentucky than any
other state... (who could) overflow from their mountains and re enforce the nation.

Social Polarization In Australia
Australia is a highly urbanized country, with most of the population living in the city. Out of the 23
million residents nearly 70% live in major cities or towns (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2013).
Population growth continuous to be prominent in inner cities and outer suburbs. Australian major
cities play a key function for the national economy. However the increase in urbanization and
immigration creates issues such as social polarization. Social polarization creates vulnerability with
continuing high rates of unemployment, low level of household income, separation between
communities and inequality.

In many urban areas, the gab between high income workers and low income workers is increasing,
creating inequality and lower social mobility. Not only has the gap between the rich and poor
widened, but this gap also has become a crucial determinant of overall welfare such as education,
employment, health and personal security. 70% of the population in Australia lives in cities and towns
and therefore the major cities play a key function of the national economy. The increase in
urbanization creates conflicts and competition between richer and poorer communities as an
increasing amount of jobs need higher qualifications. The structure of the Australian economy has
shifted from manufacturing towards services. Employees from the manufacturing jobs were especially
vulnerable as 70% of the workforce had no educational qualifications and therefore couldn t adapt to
the new sector and technology

Many language theorists have labeled various stages of language development. Most often these
stages are labeled babbling, jargoning, one word utterances, two word utterances, and all hell breaks
loose (Cole and Cole, Pinker, and Burling). During the babbling stage, children are learning how to
Language Development 4 produce the sounds that make up language, a process that Pinker feels is a
prerequisite for language development. Jargoning appears around 12 months, and is described as the
vocalization of syllable strings that sound similar to the language to which the child is exposed (Cole
and Cole). One word utterances or holo phrases are sometimes believed to stand for phrases or
sentences (Cole and Cole). At 18 months, language development is quickly developing; children are
increasing their vocabulary at a phenomenal rate of a new word every two hours (Pinker). As two or
three word utterances emerge these micro sentences already reflect the language being acquired: in
ninety five percent of them, the words are properly ordered (Pinker, 268). As Pinker s term the all hell
breaks loose stage suggest this stage is when children rapidly acquire vocabulary and grammar.

The Importance Of Being A Community Engagement Intern
Introduction
For the fall semester, I have the privilege of being a community engagement intern for the Office of
the Attorney General for the District of Columbia. My supervisor, Lateefah Williams is the community
engagement specialist whose main goal is to create a liaison with the Attorney General and the
constituents of Washington D.C. As an intern, my main role is assisting Ms. Williams on programs
that educate the constituents on issues that affect the community, administrative tasks, and the
implementation of future events within the district. I started my internship towards the end of
September for the sole purposes of comprehending the advocacy, awareness, and diligence that goes
into building ties within the community.

A) Diversification Being in an environment with intelligent, talented, experienced, and diverse
professionals has allowed me to understand the beauracatric work that goes behind the Office of the
Attorney General. There are numerous divisions within the department, such as the Office of
Consumer Protection, Public Safety Division, Family Service Division, Public Interest Division, Civil
Litigation Division, Commercial Division, Office of the Solicitor General, Child Support Services
Division, Personnel, Labor, and Employment Division, Legal Counsel Division, and Support Services
Division. Depending on the department, tasks could vary from giving legal advice to families to aiding
children in abusive or neglected homes. These various departments

The Difference Between Sex and Gender
In today s society sex and gender seem to have two separate connotative meanings. Sex is a more
scientific term that explains physical traits and sexual preferences. Gender carries a more social tone.
Meaning that it refers to the different clothing, activities, career choices, and positions people hold in
society. A person s social status helps separate or classify the two sexes. br br Sex is the total sum of
physical characteristics that distinguish males and females from each other. The most distinctive
difference in characteristics is that man and women have different reproductive organs. This is pretty
obvious and so are other traits like facial hair, deep voices, and muscular builds. It is not often that you
see a six foot five ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the rapid changes in gender equality it is not as easy to separate sex by what a person does for a
living. What position they hold in society or a household is not a good indication either. Years ago I
could have said that if a person is a police officer, a soldier, a fireman, a politician, a lawyer, a doctor
or any type of highly paid professional than that person must be a man. Back then this would have
been a pretty good hypothesis. The father was the man of the house. The minister was always male
and there was no such thing as women in sports. br br I could have probably also said that if a person
was a secretary, a grade school teacher, a receptionist, a nurse, a maid, or a homemaker then that
person must be a woman. People in the female group or gender worked lower paying less demanding
jobs because It was believed that a woman could not handle the pressures that a man s job required. br
br With the absence of the father figure in many American homes women have taken over as head of
the house. They juggle home life and work to keep their families together so that they can properly
raise their children. br br Women have broken the gender barrier in almost every sport except for
football and hockey. Some women s sports are pretty interesting to watch. I like to look at women s
track, basketball, and boxing every now

beautiful place that sparkles like a diamond, Crystal City. A happy place where almost no darkness or

Question: To what extent do the detective fiction stories looked at imitate The Murders in the Rue
Morgue in terms of the character and the creation of tension?
This essay will explain, discuss and examine the effects of Edgar
Allen Poe s The Murders in the Rue Morgue had on other authors writing detective stories during the
19th century. The Murders in the
Rue Morgue was a new kind of story and Edgar Allen Poe had many authors imitate him. Take Arthur
Conan Doyle s detective, Sherlock

There is another point , which is evident in the detective stories we have read. This is that the detective
seems to be an amateur and someone who doesn t like the Formal Police Service. Take Dupin for
example. He said this about the Parisian Police: The Parisian Police, so much extolled for acumen, are
cunning, but no more. This gives the reader the impression that Dupin doesn t like the Police and that
Dupin thinks a lot of himself. This is also apparent with Holmes.
There was a case in The Speckled Band when Holmes criticised the
Police because they did not search the room thoroughly. He said: We will have to search the room with
care to see what the Police have missed out. This clearly gives the reader the impression that
Sherlock does not like the Police.
The detectives also seem to be in a world of their own and often seem to have highly individual
personalities. We can see that Dupin
waffles quite a lot, when he speaks. Lets look at when he starts to talk about the people who have
heard the voice. He starts by saying:
That was the evidence itself . . . . and talks like this for the next four paragraphs. This tells me that, at
times. Dupin can talk a load of nonsense and he can be quite tedious. We can also see the detective s

  • 2. Persuasive Essay On Mt. Everest The issue of Mt.Everest and whether it should be open to the public or not is an issue that has recently risen as many mountaineers do not like the idea of it as it is an exhilarating thing to do that gives them a sense of achievement and although there are many risks and challenges people enjoy the activity and believe that it should stay open to the public. Mountaineering as of recent years has gotten much safer as they now use steroids and bottled oxygen because of the high altitude. It is becoming safer may not necessarily be a good thing as it is also very expensive, as in the second source they state that Each and every one of them had paid $10,000 for a climbing permit and even after having to pay a large amount of money for simply a climbing permit they run a great risk of death. ... In 1519, Hernan Cortes arrived with a fleet of ships after rumour had spread of a city containing great wealth. It was believed that Cortes arrival coincided with an ancient Aztec prophecy about a pale skinned and bearded god arriving from the east. Cortes was welcomed by the king of Tenochtitlan, Montezuma. He gave Cortes many gifts, such as precious stones, gold and chocolate. Cortes was welcomed to Tenochtitlan and even given a place to live, but soon their bonds deteriorated, and, fearing attack from the Aztec people, Cortes kidnapped Montezuma, demanding a huge ransom from the Aztec people. • 4. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Raman Spectroscopy Raman spectroscopy (RS) as a powerful analytical method have widely been employed in characterization of different kinds of chemical species. Discovery of RS dates back to previous century which first proposed by C.V. Raman and his colleague K.S. Krishnan. This scattering technique involves electromagnetic interaction of an incident monochromatic laser beam with molecules of a matter. Each of different vibrational, rotational and other modes of molecular motions in target molecule can alter both the frequency (as wavelength shift) and intensity of the laser beam (called inelastic scattering) which gives a specific fingerprint through which a molecule can be identified. Typical RS spectra involves a diagram of intensity vs wavelength shift. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beta2 adrenergic agonist (βAA) drugs including clenbuterol (CB), salbutamol (SB), and terbutaline (TB) causes a βAA effect and can be illegally used by athletes to increase their performance. • 5. Compare And Contrast Jamestown And Plymouth Colonies Another component comparing Jamestown and Plymouth colonies would be their aspects on Indian relations. The English colonists arrived in Chesapeake Bay where the Powhatan Indians had been calling home for quite some time. There were over thirty Indian tribes totaling 14,000 Indians. This is where the first colony, Jamestown, was settled in 1607. I believe this created a lot of tension between the Indians and the new settlers considering the previous settling and attacks of the Spanish on the Indians. The Indians lived such a generous way of life welcoming the new English settlers by offering them food. However, the good intentions faded quickly after. The leader of the Powhatan Indians, Powhatan, was intending to entice the English through generosity and their selfless attitudes. Sure enough, this act of kindness was overlooked by the English colonists, and they immediately began searching for wealth such as tobacco. As we have spoken about in class, Jamestown was a colony that significantly valued material objects and wealth; whereas Plymouth colony did not focus their rule around that idea. The new colonists were so set on acquiring wealth that they failed to grow crops such as corn and beans. This led the English to depend more on the Indians for food since the Indians were very successful farmers and knew how to live off the land. John Smith s leadership swooped in and saved the colony of Jamestown. He conducted means of exploring the land and gathering ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Descent From The Cross Analysis Group 1, Question A Catalina s masculine behaviors in her autobiography demonstrates how gender was socially constructed in both Europe and America during the colonial era. One scene in particular is, Meanwhile, some boys noticed me and surrounded me until, annoyed, I picked up some rocks and injured one of them (I don t know where because I didn t see) They arrested me and kept me in jail for one long month until he healed and they released me, with a little money remaining after my expenses (2). In this scene she stands her own ground against a group of men with violence rather than submitting to them or running away. Women during this era were not expected to defend themselves or fight back. That is more acceptable action for men to perform. Her violent behavior put her in jail not because she is unjust for defending herself, but because she struck a man and it was not socially acceptable for a woman to do so. During this era women were not scene to act violently or hit men because it was not a norm or an action women for women to do. Group 2, Question A I think Michel de ... • 7. Government Corruption In Nigeria Several factors contribute to a country s insecurity and decline of a country s inability to effectively enact policies that benefit, protect and ensure the wellbeing of a country s citizens. Consequentially, if a country fails to outline and properly address problems within its own domestic domain, it stands to reason that the country has not successfully securitized the issue, which permits its sovereignty to be threatened. For the focus of this argument, this paper will examine the ineffectual securitization of governmental corruption in Nigeria through deliberate neglect of malpractices in government and the implementation of poor policies and norms that pervade the system and create insecurity, instability, threats and hinder the welfare of the populace. To begin this examination, an understanding of the issue is necessary to receive a full appreciation of why Nigeria s failures in securitizing the issue of corruption is important to the argument. This unsuccessful securitization is possible because within government corruption, while being tied particularly to the act of bribery, is a general term covering misuse of authority as a result of considerations of personal gain, which need not be monetary (Bayley 720). Correspondingly, it is imperative for this overarching argument to comprehend this concept because the quote allows for the conclusion that corruption influences the root of decision making by enticing leaders and policy makers into acting in ways that ... • 12. Ivan Denisovich Survival Survival and preservation of humanity are among two important themes in Alexander Solzhenitsyn s, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich. Through the main protagonist, Ivan Denisovich Shukhov, the audience is transported into the reality of Stalinist repression. Throughout the novel, Solzhenitsyn makes it clear that freedom is not a cut and dry issue. Rather, when one is focused on survival and maintaining their dignity, some element(s) of freedom are still possible even during the most oppressive times. 1. The author makes it clear very early on in the book that the idea of freedom is subjective and complicated. While one would reasonably believe that men forced into labor camps cannot possibly be free, there is more than what meets the eye. For the men that want nothing more than to maintain some aspect of individuality during their harsh sentences, there are opportunities. For example, Shukov mentions his spoon throughout the book. He must hide his spoon in his boot because he is forbidden to have such personal items. Similarly, another prisoner known as Tsezar receives mysterious and lavish packages from the outside world. These examples, regardless of how small they may seem, allow the prisoners to have at least a small part of normalcy in their lives and is the closest they will get to freedom. Solzhenitsyn says, The great thing about a penal camp was you had a hell of a lot of freedom. Back in Ust Izhma if you said they couldn t get matches outside they put ... I feel that defendants tend to have a lack of faith and trust in their attorneys, especially those that are appointed. According to our textbook, those facing serious charges and long jail terms tend to have less confidence in their attorneys, particularly court appointed attorneys. It s a common rhetoric that the public defender s office is both understaffed and overworked. But, as our textbook goes on to state, those defense attorneys that take little time they have to develop relationships with their clients tend to garner their client s trust (Siegel, Schmalleger Worrall, 2015). • 21. The Positive And Negative Cons Of Credit Cards For many years, there has been an ongoing debate whether using credit cards is a positive or a negative idea. On the positive side, credit cards are a widely accepted method of payment across the globe. One of the benefits of using your credit for payment is foreign travel, when you are traveling out of the country it saves you from having to exchange your dollars for the local currency, your credit card company calculates the exchange rate for you and automatically posts the correct charges to your account. (Yuille). In addition, credit cards are great for emergency situations where you find yourself in the position of having to spend a large sum of money that you had not budgeted for and may not have the money readily available. These unforeseen expenditures can then be worked into a monthly budget and be paid off in a series of monthly installments (Yuille). For instance, making a large purchase with a credit card and promptly making your monthly payments until the debt is satisfied, could improve your credit score which can help qualify for future loans should the need arise (Detweiler). Furthermore, many credit card programs have rewards programs you may be eligible for. Such as, being eligible to receive a percentage of your purchase as a cash back reward, earning airline frequent flyer miles for each dollar you charge to your credit card and often you are offered discounts on daily purchases (Vanderpool). Credit cards also allow for convenience. Having a credit card ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Northern Ireland s sustainable development strategies and policies are discussed next, how the environment has been at the bottom of the investment list, and that change is coming about with the newly proposed Sustainable Development Strategy due to come in on May 2006. The agenda of this strategy is explained and priority areas are listed, but the paper goes on to explain that unless all government policies are engaged, then this strategy will not work. The link between sustainable development and health is then explained and that it doesn t make sense to have one without the other. This link is then explained by talking about the public health strategy in Northern Ireland which ties in with the Northern Ireland Fuel Poverty Strategy (Department of Social Development; 2004). The two are related because the health of those who had no money for fuel deteriorated because they had to live in cold and damp dwellings with mould on the walls. The Author s feel that in order to promote sustainable health and development in the island of Ireland, an integrated approach is essential which would mean that those working in Public health organisations must work along with those from environmental health. So many things and events leading to our departure and details of the immigration process now are vague in my memory, but I do not want to forget them completely; also, there are grandkids that someday may want to know a little about their roots. Although, I realize that my story was very typical and thousands of other families had similar experiences, I still want to recall as much as possible and be as truthful as possible, while describing our passage to America. Polonius has a rather interesting character development in this act, and this is evident through his relationship with his kids, his relationship with the king, and his own self centeredness Polonius is described as an old man in this play, and that is supported with the fact that he has a son who is in college in France. He also believes that Hamlet is just using her, and that she should Tender yourself [Ophelia] more clearly, / Or (not to crack the wind of the poor phrase, / Running it thus) you ll tender me a fool (1.3.117 118). This statement was said in the context that Hamlet is showing his tenders of affection to Ophelia, tenders meaning not legal tender. The first part of this charge tells Ophelia that she should be careful with who she accepts love from. This is a loving statement from father to daughter, and receives no reward when in the shadow of the last part of this statement, which has three meanings. The second half of this charge mostly means that she will either make herself look like a fool, or make Polonius look like a fool. This meaning shows Polonius s true character, that he is concerned with himself most of all. Considering his reputation, this claim is understood, yet still looked down upon by most readers. The other, and more serious, meaning of Polonius s comment is that Ophelia will give Polonius a grandchild. This is drawn from the alternate meaning of fool, which is a term of endearment toward babies. If Ophelia had a child with the Prince, this would also make Polonius look bad because she would have done it out of wedlock, and thus reveals his character even more. Revelation and Rebirth in Helena Viramonte s The Moths The famous phrase looks may be deceiving strongly pertains to Helena Viramontes s short story, The Moths. The story, instead of focusing the creatures in the title, is actually about a young girl who comes of age as she is faced with the deterioration and death of her grandmother. Even though the title, The Moths, seems to have no relevance at the beginning, these creatures help to portray a sense of spirituality, rebirth, and become, finally, an incarnation of the grandmother. This description is very precise in the sense of rebirths because the sun dies and then is reborn every morning. The quote and when that time came [sunset], just when I switched on the light . . . was probably then that she died (1241) refers back to the spiritual aspect of the light being heaven, and this is when the doors of heaven first open for Abuelita. It was settled by Europeans and established as a port for the Republic of Mexico. It was rich in immigration and dominated trade. It has a history of turmoil caused by war and natural disasters. Galveston Island formed as a typical barrier island. Galveston s formation took place 5000 years ago, as wind and wave energy along with rising sea water levels moved sand around to form the island. • 35. Personification Of Autumn Summary Whether it was fate, an act of the gods, or just a coincidence of nature, the earth was tilted on its axis at creation, resulting in the phenomenon of seasons as it endlessly orbits the sun. Winter, spring, summer, and fall. The seasons come and go as do the unique features that each one holds. But is each season treasured equally to its individual worth? Or do they all blend together as time slips through the world s fingers? The beauty of life found within Autumn can t be fully appreciated until the limit of time and inability to avoid death is accepted. In the first stanza, Keats develops his ode to Autumn through vivid imagery detailing his appreciation for the season s life as well as his acknowledgement of the death that succeeds it. Although fall is a transition to death, the season itself symbolizes a harvest of life, shown through the personification of Autumn as a Close bosom friend of the maturing sun; Conspiring with him how to load and bless With fruit the vines that round the thatch eves run. The detailed imagery of the sun and Autumn working together to bring about the life of the season reveals the speaker s respect for the natural beauty and life created by the season. However, death is not entirely absent from the first stanza, as the diction of the maturing sun reveals that the speaker is aware that fall will not last forever, and the death of winter will eventually take over. The speaker s internal conflict over the inevitable loss of Autumn is shown ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These words spoken by Hester Prynne in The Scarlet Letter display her practice of situational morals and hypocrisy. Hawthorne displays this major element of human nature, hypocrisy in all characters save young Pearl who is blatantly unique from most people. While these women stand comfortably on the ground with their fingers pointed, one could speculate that at the very least some of them have sinned privately as well, and they also deserve the stigma of the scarlet letter. The Scarlet Letter is an example of how any society can be haunted by hypocrisy. In this book every character gives in to hypocrisy and it is the source of their misery by creating animosity amongst each other as well as stigmas and guilt on the sinners. Even though this novel was written over a century ago, its message is still true for modern society. As events unfolded in the 1860s domestic crisis between the Blue and Gray, Kentucky s Appalachian residents provided a bastion of physical and strategic support for those that marched and fought in the uniform of the darker hue. In 1897, future President Theodore Roosevelt singled out Kentucky s Appalachian citizens impact on the war proclaiming when the full history of the war is written we shall realize more than we do our debt to the loyal people of the South...there (was) a larger proportion of descendants of revolutionary soldiery in Kentucky than any other state... Many language theorists have labeled various stages of language development. Most often these stages are labeled babbling, jargoning, one word utterances, two word utterances, and all hell breaks loose (Cole and Cole, Pinker, and Burling). During the babbling stage, children are learning how to Language Development 4 produce the sounds that make up language, a process that Pinker feels is a prerequisite for language development. Jargoning appears around 12 months, and is described as the vocalization of syllable strings that sound similar to the language to which the child is exposed (Cole and Cole). One word utterances or holo phrases are sometimes believed to stand for phrases or sentences (Cole and Cole). At 18 months, language development is quickly developing; children are increasing their vocabulary at a phenomenal rate of a new word every two hours (Pinker). As two or three word utterances emerge these micro sentences already reflect the language being acquired: in ninety five percent of them, the words are properly ordered (Pinker, 268). • 44. The Difference Between Sex and Gender In today s society sex and gender seem to have two separate connotative meanings. Sex is a more scientific term that explains physical traits and sexual preferences. Gender carries a more social tone. Meaning that it refers to the different clothing, activities, career choices, and positions people hold in society. A person s social status helps separate or classify the two sexes. br br Sex is the total sum of physical characteristics that distinguish males and females from each other. The most distinctive difference in characteristics is that man and women have different reproductive organs. This is pretty obvious and so are other traits like facial hair, deep voices, and muscular builds. It is not often that you see a six foot five ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the rapid changes in gender equality it is not as easy to separate sex by what a person does for a living. What position they hold in society or a household is not a good indication either. Years ago I could have said that if a person is a police officer, a soldier, a fireman, a politician, a lawyer, a doctor or any type of highly paid professional than that person must be a man. Back then this would have been a pretty good hypothesis. The father was the man of the house. The minister was always male and there was no such thing as women in sports. br br I could have probably also said that if a person was a secretary, a grade school teacher, a receptionist, a nurse, a maid, or a homemaker then that person must be a woman. People in the female group or gender worked lower paying less demanding jobs because It was believed that a woman could not handle the pressures that a man s job required. br br With the absence of the father figure in many American homes women have taken over as head of the house. They juggle home life and work to keep their families together so that they can properly raise their children. br br Women have broken the gender barrier in almost every sport except for football and hockey. Some women s sports are pretty interesting to watch. I like to look at women s track, basketball, and boxing every now ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is that the detective seems to be an amateur and someone who doesn t like the Formal Police Service. Take Dupin for example. He said this about the Parisian Police: The Parisian Police, so much extolled for acumen, are cunning, but no more. This gives the reader the impression that Dupin doesn t like the Police and that Dupin thinks a lot of himself. This is also apparent with Holmes. There was a case in The Speckled Band when Holmes criticised the Police because they did not search the room thoroughly. He said: We will have to search the room with care to see what the Police have missed out. This clearly gives the reader the impression that Sherlock does not like the Police. The detectives also seem to be in a world of their own and often seem to have highly individual personalities. We can see that Dupin waffles quite a lot, when he speaks. Lets look at when he starts to talk about the people who have heard the voice. He starts by saying: That was the evidence itself . . . . and talks like this for the next four paragraphs. This tells me that, at times. Dupin can talk a load of nonsense and he can be quite tedious. We can also see the detective s different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
