The Struggle For Independence Between Deep Rooted African...
Who were the Mau Mau? What fueled their short lived but symbolic rebellion? What is their
significance in the struggle for independence that occurred in Kenya? What does understanding the
insurgency teach us of the clashes between deep rooted African culture and the force of European
civilization mission? The rebellion surprised the British early on in 1952 by its aggressiveness and
early success in rallying up the masses for a common cause, equality. For decades the white British
settlers took their lands and sent the indigenous Kikuyu into reservations which could not even
come close to sustaining their ever growing pastoral population. The Second World War seems to
have been the turning point for the majority of Kenyans who wanted equality with the Europeans
(Elkins, 2005, p. 22) .
However this was not only in Kenya, all around the continent African soldiers who had bled for the
British empire discovered that the European man died just as he did when shot or stabbed, and
this took away the superiority complex some of them might have had earlier. The duration and
protracted effort of the counterinsurgency beg an evaluation of its influence on the fate of Kenya
as a colony. Yet, decolonization did not arrive until nearly a decade later. The Mau Mau was as a
result of African nationalism in Kenya, a somewhat violent resistance to imperialists and colonialist
scattered across their lands and their resistance to demands for gradual political reform. After

Impact Of Endangered Species
This report will be discussing and talking about endangered species and the impacts they have on
ecosystems. Endangered species is a species of animal or plants at risk of extinction because of
human activity, changes in climate, ruining of ecosystems, etc. This report will be split into
different sections discussing different examples of endangered speciesand the impacts that they
have on different ecosystems.
Blue whales, weighing in at 200 tonnes are the largest ever known animal to live on the planet.
Sadly, after whaling has occurred it has made the species endangered with only 10000 to 25000
remaining. Blue whales play a significant role in keeping the food chain stable and helping with the
reproduction of other species. In the marine ecosystem whales help control the distribution of food
by helping to keep a stable food chain and ensuring that certain marine species do not
overpopulate the ocean, however, Blue whales are being killed and the food distribution in the
ocean is becoming unstable and causing major changes in the food supply of many other marine
life A Blue Whale is able to consume as much as 40 million krill per day, so the impact on the
marine ecosystem would be huge because overtime krill will overpopulate which causes problems
in maintaining a food chain because the more krill there is the more food they will eat so because
of their new overpopulation it could make other animals become extinct. If Blue Whales become
extinct then marine life will

Diagnosed With Stage IIi Breast Cancer
Marybeth has been healthy for the most of her life, however, she was diagnosed with stage III
breast cancer in October, 2015. After the surgery, she went for one chemo therapy. She was
supposed to have 4 sessions. But she decided not to take the rest of the chemo therapy due to her
financial hardship at the time. She was ready whenever the Lord wanted her. She drove to work a
week after her surgery, and she kept telling herself that she could do this.
At the age of 70, another wonderful opportunity emerged. Marybeth was offered the position of
Clinical Supervisor at UW Parkside. She enjoys observing first and second year education majors
in their field experiences.

Marybeth thinks her life as integrative. She had a great childhood, a rewarding teenage years,
getting married and having children, helping with raising up her grandchildren. She has passed on
many morals and values to the young generations. As Erikson stated in his psychosocial
developmental stages, integrity is the opposite of self centered love. It is a sense of acceptance
that this is one s only life. (Berzoff, 2011) She tries to contribute more to her family and society and
wants to live a regret free life, she also accepts her own death in the future.
She is very involved with community work. She volunteers at different organizations, agencies
and clubs. She was very involved when she was young, and to this day, she still tries to catch up
with everything she used to do at the age of 71. She told me that she was satisfied with her life.
The more she does, the more satisfied she is. She is well presented the activity theory of aging. The
activity theory of aging proposes that older adults are happiest when they stay active and maintain
social interactions. These activities, especially when meaningful, help the elderly to replace lost life
roles after retirement and, therefore, resist the social pressures that limit an older person s world.
The theory assumes a positive relationship between activity and life satisfaction. Activity theory
reflects the functionalist perspective that the equilibrium, that an individual

A Link Between Africa And The Rest Of The World
African civilization, like most other societies have their own set of creation stories which can
be seen in the Christian Bible or folk stories that are told in other parts of the world. One
example is the Asante Tower to Heaven which can be seen as a parallel to the Tower of Babel
story told in the book of Genesis in the Bible. Both involved people on Earth trying to reach God
in heaven by building towers and ultimately failing. Just this example can show a link between
Africaand the rest of the world. These creation myths, from the San, Dogon, and Yoruba people,
come from the prominent local religions from early times in different parts of Africa. These stories
and religious rituals lasted until Christian missionaries came and converted a large portion of the
population to Christianity, which diminished those that adhered to the original religions.
Another topic heavily discussed by those interviewed was the economic status of those in Africa
today. Jamie spoke about her concern for African poverty, I would have to say that I care most
about the high amount of poverty in Africa, I mean our poor over here is their rich . Another
interviewee, Allison expressed a similar sentiment, I care most about the underdevelopment of
Africa, there s a lot of people over there that is less fortunate than we are over here and they have
less opportunities over there . This phenomenon of Africa being perceived as underdeveloped was
discussed by Walter Rodney in How Africa Developed

The Biological Processes Of Dairy Cattle Essay
In today s world, many infants are allergic to certain proteins naturally present in cow s milk. Due
to the huge volume of milk products consumed by the human race, there is a need to get rid of this
allergy causing protein and eliminate this allergic reaction. AgResearch has investigated ways to
manipulate the genetic material in dairy cattle by using the process of GeneKnockdown , with the
aim to create a cow which produces milk which doesn t contain the proteinresponsible for the
allergic reactions, the Beta lacto globulin protein or BLG . Scientists have been successful in
creating Daisy the Cow, who is a cloned calf genetically modified to produce milk which does not
contain the BLG protein. I will be discussing the biological processes behind the cloning of Daisy
the cow, and the decisions made by scientists to use methods for genetically modifying the cow s
genes from whom Daisy was cloned, for the benefit of humans.
There are specific reasons AgResearch used processes like Gene Knockdown and cloning by
Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer SCT to get the result they wanted. The stakes are high to ensure
the cloned cow Daisy survives and is healthy. Therefore AgResearch needed to choose procedures
which were most likely to yield successful results. The whole project and process cost around 50
million dollars to produce one cow, and with historical success rates very low they could
potentially lose funding and be shut down if the project didn t produce any successful

Memory Work With Children By Linda Goldman
Memory Work with Children by Linda Goldman (62) Memory work interventions are great to use
with children, since during this time they are starting to form memories. Through memory work
children are able to retell their stories and the stories of others, and are able to create new stories or
recall memories through making meaningful projects (as stated in Neimeyer, 2012). Through this
intervention as Goldman states, a bereaved child constructs the deceased though an ongoing
cognitive process of establishing memories, feelings, and actions appropriate to the child s
developmental level (as stated in Neimeyer, 2012, p. 240). Memorywork is an intervention that will
help children not to forget about the deceased. Memory work can take the form of writing, objects,
albums, picture stories, and memory boxes. Another method that goes along with memory work is
speaking with the client to help him or her process what they have experienced and remember. As
counselor, I would ask questions: what they remember about the deceased person, what their initial
thoughts were, how did they find out about the death, what are some initial reactions to certain
emotions, where was the client when the death occurred, questions that will get the client to start
to think about their loss as well as where they are now mentally in the process (as stated in
Neimeyer, 2012). For children, voicing these answers will help them process the death as well as
show them it is okay to feel this way. By

Annotated Bibliography On The Library
Introduction:
Library users today are able to meet most their information needs through the sources outside the
library. The ubiquitous access to internet today and the rise of the companies like Google,
Amazon and Wikipedia have provided viable alternatives to users for their information needs. So
libraries are experiencing an evolutionary change in their traditional services. And the rapid
evolving digital technologies can be seen as an opportunity for libraries as their need to evolve in
the face of these new challenges.
Linked Data which works as the framework behind the Semantic Web, an idea developed by Tim
Berners Lee, the inventor of World Wide Web
, aims at revolving the Internet into one large
database instead of simply distinct collection of data. Today, where internet has been the first
choice for the users to look for information, libraries should seize the advantage of the concept
behind Linked Data. By attempting to make their resources available on the web, libraries can
bring back their users because of the allure of the high quality and authoritative resources owned by
the libraries.
Such technological development can definitely bring a number of benefits to libraries by allowing
the libraries and their resources to connect with their users on the web. Professionals in the field
have considered the use of Linked data technologies for the benefit of Libraries. Many papers have
been written by experts underlying the benefits in the past decade. And

Investigating the Relationship Between Superstious Belief...
In times of uncontrollability, there is evidence to suggest that individuals tend to invoke
superstious beliefs. Anecdotal evidence has also suggested that highly superstitious people believe
that they have a level of control over situations where they objectively have none. For example,
some people have lucky charms that they believe allow for a greater sense of perceived control of
external factors.
Locus of control has often been used to explain the relationship of perceived control and
superstious belief and has been dichotomized as internal or external (Rotter, 1966). Whereas an
internal locus of control is inherent of the belief that all events are due to internal dispositions, an
external locus of control believes that events are a result of other people, or chance/luck. This
concept is associated with the Learned helplessness explanation (Abramson et al., 1978; Maier
Seligman, 1976). What this explanation proposes is that participant s attribute the uncontrollability
of a situation to internal dispositions i.e., they display an internal locus of control, and, by
extension, denote failure as a result of not having any control over the situation. Contrastingly,
individuals who don t succumb to the learned helplessness effect are those who place failure
outside the realms of their own self. I.e., they present an external locus of control. This has been
validated by Dudley (1999), who found that participants with a higher level of superstition
demonstrated less of

The Role Of Textile In Early Civilization
2. In early civilization, it was normal for those who hunted to use the skins of animals as a
covering. As people began depending more upon agriculture, this changed. Textiles were a needed
product. Women spun the yarn by using a distaff and spindle. She held the distaff which was a
long rod that held the loose fibers, along with the spindle, a little rod that revolved as she let it fall.
This way of spinning, twisted the yarnas it was wound. Women had simplified this process to
allow them to accomplish other tasks at the same time they spun the yarn. Once the yarn was spun,
both men and women would help weave the cloth for clothing. Many peoples in early civilizations
used the fleece of sheep and goats. Many raised their sheep especially

Affirmative Action And Its Effect On Minority Minorities...
Affirmative action is described in sociology as, policies and programs that aim to avoid
discrimination and redress past discrimination through the active recruitment of qualified minorities
for jobs, promotions, and educational opportunities. (i.e. Exp. Soc., pg 280). In other words, the
law was put in place as an attempt to create pluralism in the United Statesstructure of opportunity.
When describing affirmative action, the generalized assumption is individuals being handed
opportunities based only on their ethnicity. Whether or not that opinion rings through to the
majority, consider the events that lead to the enactment of affirmative action in the first place. The
structure of opportunity in the United States has always been a biased and unfair in its distribution
of opportunities. Since the beginning, the structure of opportunity has always been in favor of
whiter, and ultimately wealthier Americans. Segregation, discrimination, and complete disregard for
people of different ethnicity and color made it as such.
People of color were seen as an inferior, and ultimately poorer group of people than people who
were white. In earlier time, a metaphorical glass ceiling held back student of different ethnicity
from becoming more educated. The glass ceiling that held them back for so long was the structure
of opportunity being as biased as it is. In essence, the economic conditions, culture, and other
aspects of certain people had an impact on how they lived in society.

The Role Of The Greek Gods In The Odyssey
Lindsey Knight
4/11/17
Before I read the Odyssey, my views on the Greek Gods was a bunch of powerful immortals who
watched the world play out in front of them like a game of parcheesi. But now I know that the
people around the time of the Trojan War, the gods were believed to cheat, move their pieces more
than the dice said, take out an opponent s piece when they weren t supposed to. Odysseus was a
piece on the gameboard, and all he wanted to do was get home, but the odds were not always in his
favor. Or should I say, the gods.
In Greek times, gods were created to have a reason for why things happen on Earth, like rain, sun,
and lightning. Of course, we now have scientific evidence of why these things happen, but the gods
are still important to our learning today. One reason mythology is important is it debates between
the good and evil in men (reference.com). Throughout the Odyssey, we see the conflict between the
kind, family man of Odysseus and the grueling, vicious, tough man, fighting for his way home. Of
course, it was not smooth sailing, but it could have been smoother with or without the help of the
gods.
Athena is the goddess of wisdom, and she chose to help Odysseus get home to Ithaca. She favored
him for his important qualities that she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and long, but still wished for him to return home. I will lose all my honor now... I said myself that
Odysseus would suffer long and hard before he made it home, but I never dreamed of blocking his
return.(13.140) . He felt disrespect that Odysseus had made it home, with millions worth of riches

Flood Insurance Prevention
Many homeowners feel that their house and property will always be protected as long as the
annual insurance premiums are paid on time and standard coverage is in place. However, there is
a big misconception when it comes to repairs and replacement costs for a dwelling that has suffered
water damage due to flooding. Homeowners with properties located within a floodplain typically
must purchase additional floodinsurancein order to be protected from a severe loss that could leave
a household in financial ruin and without a place to live.
According to the Insurance Information Institute, It s important to note that, as a rule, homeowners
and renters insurance does not cover damage from flooding. To protect your home, be sure to

Insurance through the NFIP can only be purchased if a person s home is located within a
designate area that is at risk for potential flooding. If a property owner is unsure about their
dwelling s eligibility with the NFIP, he or she should contact the president of the local
homeowner s association or check with an insurance agency in the area. These individuals will be
able to provide a map of the local flood plains and make area residents aware of the need to
purchase flood insurance.
If you are a renter or homeowner (residential policy); or business owner (non residential policy)
and your property is located in a NFIP participating community, you can purchase a policy,
explained FEMA. There is typically a 30 day wait period between when you buy a flood insurance
policy and when it goes into effect, but there are some exceptions.
During the home buying process, realtors should alert all prospective buyers if a house they are
selling is in a flood zone and therefore requires the purchase of flood insurance. This is also
something a home inspector should make note of in the report for prospective buyers. Typically
bank lenders will not sign off on a mortgage unless flood insurance is purchased and in place at the
time of closing, so it is beneficial to be aware of FEMA s 30 day wait

Mary Rowlandson And Franklin s Views On Western Society...
When the colonists arrived to the new world, they were blind to the problems before them. They
were in a time filled with thematic tribulations and conquest. They came across a group of people
they never knew or seen before; they called them Savages or Natives. Various encounters with the
Native Americans were documented with both negative and positive connotation. During this
period of trial and error, time with the Natives seemed often terroristic and peaceful. In various
colonial texts several authors have documented their experiences with the Native Americans, and
gave their personal analysis of the Natives behavior, customs, and beliefs. Mary Rowlandson, for
example, experienced terror from the Natives; she gave a chilling look... Show more content on

In addition, association with the Natives was just another obstacle the colonists had to face.
Rowlandson s publication gives a time stamp on how difficult relations with the Native
Americans were from a colonial perspective. Time period was so important in Rowlandson s case
because her story this gave first insight to issues of the colonial perspective of the Natives. Before
Rowlandson, there was no actual documentation of a front row seat to the world of the Native
Americans. For example, during Rowlandson s fourth remove she witnessed the death of a
pregnant mother and the child (264). Imagine hearing this for the first time as a colonist;
immediately an automatic biased opinion occurs. In Rowlandson s case, there was more corruption
and devilish behavior that clouded the good. Whereas in Franklin s distribution of his seventeen
eighty four satirical document Remarks Concerning the Savages of North America; published eight
years after America s independence. It would be assumed that during Franklin s time the colonists
would have some kind of system in order to deal with the Natives. Instead more mischief continues
and conflict between the Natives and colonists increase. The establishment of a biased opinion still
sits in the hearts of the colonists, however on Franklin s account there is a change. For instance,
Franklin describes the culture of the Natives as honorable, something totally different as

Reconciliation In Australia
Reconciliation between the Canadian government and aboriginals
Reconciliation between the Canadian government and aboriginals remains one of the most
challenging problems for the country. Scientists define reconciliation as the process of building a
mutually respectful interaction between aboriginal peoples and non aboriginals in Canada. This
can be achieved through proper reflection on the past conflicts, acknowledgement of the past
mistakes made by both sides of the process, as well as considerable changes in the future. This
essay concentrates on the efforts of reconciliation by the Canadian government and the impact of
residential schools on First Nations communities. Firstly, it examines how residential schools have
impacted Aboriginals. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The government has, over the years since made various attempts at reconciliation including the
Kelowna accord and the Royal Commission on Aboriginal people. The Royal Commission was a
huge step, however, a CBC news article noted that more apologies are needed to fully reconcile
with aboriginals. An example would be calling on the pope and the church to apologize for their
part in the residential schools. The most important steps, are the acceptance of responsibility and
the expression of regret. For many aboriginal people, a commitment to reconciliation means
promoting more specified efforts, as well greater funding, for Indigenous initiatives. Reconciliation,
numerous aboriginal leaders accept, ought to be motioned by the government s responsiveness to
aboriginal needs and demands. This point is a very important one as reconciliation requires a vast
number of responsibilities and obligations. In this case, the Canadian government has much more if
not all the responsibility and obligation compared to the aboriginals. The aboriginal s role is to
bring smart decisions to the table whenever they are able to. The relevant example is the concerns
expressed over the bill C 44, which recommended that complaints against First Nations governments
should have been considered by independent First Nations institutions. Yet, despite the
recommendation, the bill was not changed.

The Principle Of The Glandular Fever Test
1) What is the organism responsible for the occurrence of IM? What patient group is mainly
affected?
The organism responsible for the occurrence of IM is the Epstein Barr virus (EBV). This virus
belongs to the Herpes group and was first identified in cultured cells from biopsies of Burkitt s
Lymphoma.
The patient group that is mainly affected are 15 to 25 year olds. Infants and younger children
have been affected, but the virus is very rarely found in middle aged or elderly people.
2) Explain the principle of the glandular fever test.
A patient sample is added to an absorbent pad on the test strip which contains bovine erythrocyte
glycoprotein. The patient sample mobilises the blue microspheres that are contained in the test strip
and they move up the strip. The test strip contains a region of immobilised bovine erythrocyte
glycoprotein in the result window. If any IM heterophile antibodies are present in the specimen, then
a blue line should appear in the result window. The Clearview IM test strips used in the laboratory
provides an integrated control feature.
3) What is a heterophile antibody?
A heterophile antibody is an antibody produced in one species that reacts with the cells from
another unrelated species. These antibodies, which are IgM in nature, are not specific for sheep
red cells but also react with horse and ox, but NOT human, red cells.

An Analysis Of Shirley Jackson And The Lottery
Many people are following crowds all over the world. Some crowds are not the best to follow yet
people still follow them. Following a crowd can be misleading and can also l have consequences.
The Lottery by Shirley Jackson takes place in a small village on June 27th, with about 300 people.
The characters in the short storyare Bobby, Harry Jones, Dickie Delacroix, Mr. Summers, and Mr.
Hutchinson. The main idea of First They Came... by Martin Niemoller, is standing up for what is
right isn t always the easiest path. I believe that following a crowd, and standing up for what is
right is not always the right path or easiest path.
To begin with, The Lottery by Shirley Jackson is different than First They Came... by Martin
Niemoller because the themes are not the same The Lottery conveys that following a crowd can
lead to consequences; for example, in paragraph 19, All ready? he called. Now, I ll read the
names heads of families first and the men come up and take a paper out of the box. In other
words, this shows that all of the people of the town participated in the traditional game. In
paragraph 77, Tessie Hutchinson was in the center of a cleared space by now, and she held her
hands out desperately as the villagers moved in on her. It isn t fair, she said. A stone hit her on the
side of the head. In this paragraph Tessie Hutchinson is about to get stoned to death because she

One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest- Book and Movie Comparison...
The Power of Words
In recent years, it has become popular for many of America s great literary masterpieces to be
adapted into film versions. As easy a task as it may sound, there are many problems that can arise
from trying to adapt a book into a movie, being that the written word is what makes the novel a
literary work of art. Many times, it is hard to express the written word on camera because the
words that express so much action and feeling can not always be expressed the same way through
pictures and acting. One example of this can be found in the comparison of Ken Kesey s novel,
One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, and the film version directed in 1975 by Milos Forman. The
novel details the time that R.P. McMurphy, a criminal,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the novel, Chief describes Nurse Ratched as having orange lips, orange fingertips, and a
perfect looking face. However, she is heavily endowed in the chest area, and Chief says that one
can tell that it makes her bitter to think about it. The novel makes the Nurse seem huge, in
describing her physically, and the other inmates refer to her as Big Nurse . In the film, she is a
petite lady that does not have a noticeably large chest in any way. It is hard to imagine the Nurse
without her chest, so it makes one wonder why the film does not include this aspect. In the novel,
when Nurse Ratched and McMurphy have a physical fight, McMurphy rips the front of her
starchy white uniform, exposing her breasts, and her vulnerability. At this point in the novel it
seems that McMurphy has won the battle, and it is one of the more symbolic parts of the story.
Since her chest does not become a matter of importance in the movie, this part of the novel is not
shown, and the reader may be left wondering why, as it certainly adds to the story and to the
characters of McMurphy and the Nurse.
McMurphy s description is also portrayed differently in the novel than in the film. In the novel, he
is described as a huge red headed criminal with sideburns, tattoos, and a hat on his head and a scar
on his nose that he is constantly rubbing. He seems bigger than life in these descriptions, but in the
film McMurphy is

Women s Role In The Nineteenth Century
In the nineteenth century, women s role in society are subjected to a set of rules so called the
accomplished woman. During this period, woman wanted to be an accomplished woman because
accomplished woman has a higher chance to find a husband. In addition, the middle and upper class
women are restricted from performing music in the public because doing so will condemn the
family s reputation. In the nineteenth century, the idea of accomplished womanand social norms
limited women s role in musical world ranging from instrument choices to the setting of
performance. In the nineteenth century, the idea of an accomplished woman is described with very
specific aspects. Through Pride and Prejudice, the author Jane Austen points out that an... Show

After Amy Beach got married, more restrictions are applied to her musical career due to her status
as a wife of an upper class man. Marrying to a wealthy physician, her career as a professional
pianist is considered inappropriate for a woman of her social standing, so she restricted her
public performances to one solo recital each year and occasional orchestral and chamber
concerts, with the proceeds donated to charity. 3 As mention before, women should not be
performing in public for money because that is considered to be work, but by donating all the
money from the concert to charity, she is able to break the linkage between public concert and
working. Doing so she breaks the social expectation of women should not perform in public, but
she only agreed upon one solo recital every year. This shows that Amy Beach still cares about the
social norm and takes it into consideration when making decisions to avoid condemning her
husband s reputation. Her action reveals that she is trying to fulfill her role as a accomplished
woman by putting her family in a higher level of consideration. Furthermore, during her time,
women were not supposed to compose music and women were considered incapable of composing
in longer forms, 4 but Amy Beach again breaks this tradition by composing large scale works under
her married name, Mrs. H.

Transitional Bilingual Programs
A transitional bilingual program is a program based on the theory that a student should first acquire
fluency and literacy in their native language before joining classes where subjects are taught in a
second language (English). Once the student has a strong skills base in the native language, they
can more easily transfer those skills to a second language(English only classrooms). All subjects,

knowledge in their native language, the student can begin to be transferred into the mainstream all
English classes. A dual language program, on the other hand, is a program where all subjects are

Theories Of Experiential Learning Theory
Meanwhile, the Theory of Experiential Learning Cycle by David Kolb (Kolb, 1984) is also
relevant to this study. Experiential Learning Theory (ELT) defines learning as the process whereby
knowledge is created through the transformation of experience . Knowledge is a product from the
combination of both grasping and transforming experience. According to him the Experiential
LearningTheory model portrays two dialectically related modes of grasping experience; Concrete
Experience and Abstract Conceptualization, and two dialectically relevant modes of transforming
experience; Reflective Observation and Active Experimentation. Experiential learningis a process of
formulating knowledgethat involves a creative tension between the four learning modes that is
responsive to contextual demands. This process is portrayed as an ideal learning cycle or spiral

These modes are only responsive to certain contexts. Thus, the learning process is portrayed as a
learning cycle where the learner assumes each of the four domains; experiencing, reflecting,
thinking, and acting (Kolb Kolb, 2005). The recursive process is responsive to each other; the
learner, learning experience, and on the content learned. Immediate or concrete experiences are the
impetus for observations and reflections. Without these learning would be impossible even at the
very beginning. Later on, reflections then can be assimilated in the old experience and deduced it
into abstract concepts from which new implications for action are drawn. These new implications
are then used for active experimentation, which leads to new concrete experiences (Kolb Kolb,
2005). With the production of new concrete experiences it already leads us into a complete cycle

The Steam Engine
As of the present, technology advances exponentially as compared to three hundred years ago.
Consequently, the question asked is how this rapid method of advancement in technology and
science came about. It definitely did commence slowly. Most of the protracted infringement to
scientific and technological progress was due to theological beliefs and political incompetents. It
was only after the Protestant Reformation that significant progress was finally attained; it still
progressed slowly. Many individuals would conclude that the defining moments were when Isaac
Newton and Gottfried Leibniz made important contributions to the field of mathematics through
discoveries in Calculus. Although this played significant roles in the scientific... Show more content

This new ability drastically changed everything. Classical economical ideals came to the fore
when the prices of raw materials such as cotton went down and productivity went up. According
to Spielvogel, the amount of cotton imported into Britain in 1760 was two and a half million
pounds but by 1787, the rate had increased approximately nine fold, and by 1840, one hundred

factory as an institution, created the idea of worker unions, led child labor laws, and the ideology
of Marxism. The creation of a better means of transportation other than the horse was now available.
In 1804, a British mining engineer, Richard Trevithick (1771 1833), built the first steam powered

on Trevithick s machine, George Stevenson built a better locomotive, known as the rocket , that

steam powered ships would gradually replace sail ships. To elaborate further on the steam engine

Informed Consent For The Pediatric Population
Informed consent is the process by which patients are informed of the possible outcomes,
alternatives, and risks of treatments and are required to give their consent freely (Burkhardt
Nathaniel, 2013, p. 528). Informed consent is a right given to the patient that provides an
opportunity for the patient to actively participate in their own healthcare. But when it comes to the
pediatric population, children are not guaranteed this right. While children are often allowed to
voice their opinions during the informed consent process, this does not assure that the parents and
healthcare professionals will take the children s opinions into consideration. Parents are held
accountable to provide the legal informed consent for their children and this can raise ethical and
legal issues for nurses when they act as the patient advocates for the children in their care. This
begs the question, are children capable of participating in the decision making process of their own
informed consent? According to the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurse, as stated in Provision 1.4,
Patients have the right to decide what is to be done with and to their own person and part of that
right involves the right to have the information and facts necessary to make an intelligent and
enlightened decision regarding health care decision making. Patients have the right to assistance in

The American Constitution And The Constitution
Let take a look at some of the compromises and challenges the Founding Fathers had to overcome
when they set out to rewrite the American Constitution. The government built upon the Articles of
Confederation was failing and change was needed. The American Constitution would not have been
adopted without compromise over very difficult topics such as slavery, size and structure of
government, taxation, elections, and governing responsibilities. The Federal and States balance of
authority and division of responsibility provided a level of comfort to the citizens concerned with
being ruled once again. Human natures mistrust of others is written into the Constitution as the
separation of powers . The birth of political parties (Federalists and Antifederalists) highlights the
two distinct different in America views of politics, small central government or a strong central
government. The Constitutional compromise, states with large populations like Virginia and South

Feed R D or Farm It Out?
A)Actionable Key Issues and Consequences
1)Invest more in Research and Development department in RLK
a.If Lars decides to invest around $6 million more in research and development, it is highly risky
as the company s survival depends largely on the success of the launch of Ray s new product into
the market.
b.Since customers associate RLK with high end audio video design, pumping money into R D
would increase their brand equity as well as to live up to consumers expectations of their highly
innovative products.
c.However, RLK s competitors are downsizing and outsourcing R D and exploiting on the cost
advantages. If RLK decides to invest more money into R D and should the new product stall on
launch, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There will be a huge cost advantage for RLK from the start and hence this reduces risk that the
company will face should the product fail to meet market demands. As there are time differences,
distance and other factors to consider, the lack of interaction between the teams may cause friction
between them and thus create a big problem for RLK.
There is a big cultural difference between Ray s R D team and Inova. This may cause both teams
to be uncooperative and show a lack of enthusiasm in handling this project.
Besides, RLK s brand equity may be at risk by outsourcing as the consumers expectation of RLK is
that their products are designed and produced in the United States.
3. Hire a few more software engineer talents to strengthen RLK s long term in house capabilities
and transfer a few of his R D leaders to
Gurgaon for training.Having more software talents in RLK will satisfy Ray s request and at the
same time, strengthening the R D department s ability to meet long term obligations
By going overseas, the engineers can help to facilitate communication between both teams and
monitor things over at Inova s side.Ray may still be unhappy with the thought of collaborating with
Inova even if Lars grants his request of expanding the R D department in RLK.
RLK may suffer losses if the partnership with Inova turns sour and the Intellectual property remains
with Inova.

Many venture capitalistic companies did not or financially could not comply with the new
regulations and requirements provided for in the act, so they took their companies to the private

disadvantage to companies regarding SOX is Section 404, the internal controls portion of the act.
The major complaint the requirements of section 404 are new, radical and ill considered (Gupta,

and low self esteem can lead to the fearof socially interacting or communicating with other
people. There are many cases of bullying that cause people to grow this disorder. Bullying is one
of the main causes of Social Anxiety Disorder. The different types of bullying all have a different
effect in the disorder, such as verbal, cyber, and physical bullying all have different causes. Verbal

Black Spiderman Music Video Analysis
Black Spiderman Music Video Analysis
It s fascinating to see all the various interpretations there are about movies, books, shows, ads,
and music videos. A humorous joke to someone might be the most offensive insult another person
has ever heard. For example, one might be watching a comedy show and suddenly a man is
telling a woman to shut up and make him a sandwich. The male audience will generally find it
hilarious. However, the viewers who just so happen to be women might not be so keen on the
sexist remark. It is crucial to recognize the messages behind the media we see and whether one
ought to be upholding them or not. In the music video for Black Spiderman; Logic has Damian
dress up as Spiderman which signifies: black people deserve better roles in the media such as
superheroes, it s important for black kids to have representation, and overall, it s refreshing to see a
whole new different perspective.
For starters, black people should be given more positive roles rather than always being portrayed
negatively by playing the typical: thug, gangster, rude, or violent character. For the most part, what
the public is shown on their screens stays engraved in their heads. This eventually projects in their
words and actions. Therefore, seeing black people frequently act out as problematic characters can
be harmful as to how society genuinely perceives African Americans in real life. It puts inaccurate
notions into people s minds which can unfortunately lead to racism. It s

As a bigger company Blockbuster has the financial funds to attract more subscribers using heavy

to differentiate. For starters, what would be Netflix s entry strategy to these new markets? It
could ship the DVDs from USA but this option would have serious disadvantages like import
tariffs, shipping costs, long delivery time which would lead to customer dissatisfaction and a
very small market share with probably losses rather than profits. If Netflix would open a
subsidiary in Europe it would not have problems like the latter but it would need investors since
financing the whole subsidiary may present a problem for Netflix. Another issue is that Europe, as
a difference to the US, is consisted of many small independent countries with their own laws and
import tariffs so this could be a problem as well. Another problem is the customers preferences. If
Netflix would try to ship movies from the US (which would also present shipping costs) the
European customers might not like US movies that much. They might prefer European movies
better. Another issue is that Netflix doesn t have an established relationship with any European

American Childhood Analysis
The stories An American Childhood , by Anne Dillard and Once more to the lake by E.B. White
illustrates the author s childhood memories with description and imagery theme but have different
personal experiences and issues. An American Childhood , by Anne Dillard was about her old
neighborhood. Dillard depicts her childhood from the age of five through high school, in 1950 s
America. According to Dillard, to find the source of happiness, one must resist the world to try to
seal that character out and in Once more to the lake by E.B. White also reflects his childhood
memories with his parents and later with his son and express those certain elements of life, such as
the enjoyment of the youth, continue forever for a different generation. The main idea of the
Dillard s essay is maintaining cheerfulness and joy even in adulthood, by narrating her childhood as
a template for developing and maintaining happiness and White includes descriptions and imagery
theme from his past and present. This reflection allows the readerto imagine the memories of a son
and a father enjoying the America dream, a vacation. While both An American Childhood by Annie
Dillardand Once more to the Lake by E.B. White are descriptions and imagery sprung from the
same childhood memories, they have explored the experience of a child from a different perspective.
In Both essays, Dillard s An American Childhood and White s One more to the Lake the authors

said he was going to run me over and that I needed to hurry up in what I was doing. He felt that I
was moving slow and not getting enough of my tasks done according to his standards. The
manager never said anything directly to me and I never approached him or my co worker about
it after the incident. After it happened, I became very uncomfortable and insecure in my quality
of work. I felt that when I came into work, I was more of a hindrance than any actual help. About
a week or two after the incident happened I put in my 2 week notice and left. Since then, I still
avoid the store because I see the manager working, which is sad because I enjoyed working there
and loved the clothing.

Javert Quotes
Furthermore, another character that proves that Victor Hugo is trying to say that human nature is
basically good is Javert. On page 336 it states, Javert felt that something horrible was penetrating
his soul, admiration for a convict. Repose first for a galley slave can that be possible? He
shuddered at it yet could not shake it off... Javert bent his head and looked. All was black. He could
distinguish nothing. He heard a frothing sound; but he did not see the river... . This quote by Victor
Hugo emphasizes on this unusual emotion of goodness arousing within Javert. It s revealing a
transformation of Javert s characterfrom a hardened law worshipper directly to someone feeling for
a convict. Javert is seen gaining his conscious and eventually

Under The Roofs Of Paris
Poetic Realism was a film movement in France during the 1930 s that combined qualities of both
Impressionism and Surrealism to create a unique way to tell stories through narratives, long,
continuous shots, and sets that took a slice of reality and made it their own. The various
techniques used to create shots more real than life itself were groundbreaking for this time period.
In the past, sets of films were unrealistic and exaggerated; they were telling stories outside of
reality, so their sets were not attempting to immerse their viewer in the films location. The 1920
film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari used very simplistic sets to tell its story, but the filmmakers did
not expect or want the audience to take them as reality. They were entirely aware that the walls...

He was trying to make the skyscrapers tower over the audience, not make the audience feel as if
they were a part of the building. Despite the differences between the sets of these films, they all
attempt to share lessons and to tell their individual stories. What sets the films from the period of
Poetic Realism apart from the rest is the immersive, almost panoramic experience the viewer
becomes a part of when they watch such films. Sous les Toits de Paris (Under the Roofs of
Paris), created in 1930, was praised by French film critic Marcel CarnГ© for creating an
interpretation of life in Paris that was more real than life itself. Clair, the filmmaker of Sous les
Toits de Paris, created such a realistic portrayal using many techniques that were contrasting to
those used in the history of film (Andrew). He used long, continuous shots to immerse the reader
in the scene and make them feel as if they are a character in the scene, going about their daily life in
Paris. This was quite different from the previous montage technique that used quick cuts to provide
excitement and entertain the viewer. Clair also recorded many scenes of the film without sound and
then later layered the sound

The Global Consumption Of Energy
Introduction The 21st century can be named as the energy century because the global consumption
of energy is ever expanding and our ever increasing consumption of energy has led to serious
environmental problems. For instance Global warming is majorly attributed to our high energy
intake. So, if we continue with this irresponsible pattern of energy consumption, our future will no
longer be sustainable. Hence, managing and optimizing all the available resources has become a
necessity when all the available resources is beginning to drain out rapidly. Laws governing all the
natural resources both renewable and non renewable resources has a major say in how people make
use of the energy available. Government plays a major role in framing these policies. Therefore, it
is important that the regulating bodies are pro active and should vision out the future before
making any provisions. Moreover the end users of electricity faces many problems due to power
cuts, erratic voltage, unscheduled or scheduled load shedding etc. This disturbs the normal
functioning of industries, commercial institutions and households etc. This problem could be
because the power generation capacity is inadequate, the generated electricity is not utilised
optimally, flaws in transmission and distribution, theft, inefficient usage by end customers etc. In
order to solve all these menace, concrete laws and efficient management has become undoubtedly
important.

Principles of Management
15 September, 2016
History of Management: Paper 1 Many people have their fingerprints on what is known as
management today. Just as everything else it started from ground zero with a lot of trial and error.
Over the years brilliant people such as Adam Smith and countless others have etched into history
that best way to manage, whether on a small or large scale. The wake of these people is still being
seen today in upcoming companies such as Zappos, who brings fresh and new twists to management
as a whole. Management has evolved over the years and will continue to as people and procedures
do as well.
March 9, 1776 marked the date that Adam Smith wrote his widely known book The Wealth of
Nations . The book s original name is An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of
Nations, however it is not recognized by the majority public as so. Smith originally wrote the novel
to dismember the thought that mercantilism was a good idea. Only selling goods and gaining
nothing from trade in return proved in many cases to not be effective.. Smith wrote of the Invisible
Hand which claimed that people, by human nature, look out for their best interest and that in doing
so they unknowingly help the economy. Smith states, He (or she) generally, indeed, neither intends
to promote the public interest nor knows how much he is promoting it (Investopedia.com, An

What Is The Impact Of Joe Louis Rematch On American Society
What was the Affect of the Joe Louis Versus Max Schmeling Rematch on American Society?
Word Count: 2,861
Abstract
In the late 1930s Joe Louis and Max Schmeling were two of the world s best boxers. Joe Louis
was the American brown bomber and Schmeling was the black man of the Rhine. Joe Louis was
the world heavyweight champion in 1938 and Max Schmeling was the man who took away his
undefeated record in 1936. When Louis was named the heavyweight champion he felt that he
needed to beat Schmeling to prove that he truly was the best boxer in the world. On June 22 1938
the two boxers would fight a rematch. This fight had much greater social and racial meaning to
Americans than just a simple boxing match. How did the Joe Louis ... Show more content on

He was almost impossible to dislike even for the staunchest racists. He was famed for his
Personal Ten Commandments , which included rules like never being seen with a white woman
and never gloating over a fallen opponent. He was incredibly humble with the press. He was
viewed as a self made boxer coming from a family that lived in a shack; formerly share croppers,
to the man that he became. He represented the American dream for most Americans, that anyone
can make something of himself or herself. In Germany he was viewed as a dumb black man who
did not deserve the title belt. He was hated but not hated with only anger. He was also hated with
sheer contempt. He was viewed as inherently inferior simply because of his skin color. In
America Max Schmeling was seen as purely a villain. He was seen as compliant with Hitler s
Nazi views. He was the stereotypical Aryan race member. America saw his previous match
against Joe Louis as a fluke. He was one of Hitler s best friends and therefore the boxing
extension of Louis. Hitler had previously said a black man could never beat a German boxer.

Artemisia Gentileschi Essay
Artemisia Gentileschi (1593 1652 4) was a female painter who has depicted a scene of the story
in the Book of Esther in her painting Esther before Ahasuerus. She was born in Rome, Italy as the
daughter of the painter Orazio Gentileschi (1563 1639), and this is most certainly the way how she
came into contact with the artistic world (Papi). In 1612, when her promising career had only just
begun, a long trial for the rape of Artemisia had serious repercussions for her reputation, even
though the culprit, Agostino Tassi, was convicted (Papi). After an arranged but reparative marriage
with the brother of a family associate immediately after the trial, the couple moved to Florence,
where Artemisia was notably more successful with her work (Papi). She moved a few more times

377) or sometime around 1622 23 (Garrard, pp. 73). Esther is not the only biblical female figure
depicted by Artemisia Gentileschi. Her work includes depictions of biblical heroines and strong
biblical female figures victimized by men and women having power over men, like Judith, Lucretia,
Susanna and the Elder, and Bathsheba (Kaufmann, pp. 165). Many scholars have attributed the
event of the rape to explain the recurring motives in her paintings, however, as Cohen states in her
paper, this conclusion should not be made so easily (Cohen, pp. 48). In an extensive research of
documents documenting the trial concerning Artemisia s rape, examining the event from a
seventeenth century perspective, she came to the conclusion that the event was significant for her
development, but that it did not define her life, as some would suggest (Cohen, pp. 74). Cohen
believes that if Artemisia, indeed, consciously painted feminist images, its roots cannot only have
been in the event of the rape and its aftermath (Cohen, pp.

Determining the Need for a Study
VALUE MANAGEMENT
Determining the Need for a Study
In broad terms, the factors that underpin the decision to initiate a value management study are the
potential for savings from managing the large number of stakeholder interfaces, the complexity
of the project or the innovative nature of the project. The goals may be to overcome a difficult
problem, to achieve project acceleration, to overcome interfacing problems, to develop or
improve a brief, to meet statutory requirements, to provide rigorous review or audit, to improve
value for money and/ or to develop/ review design options (Best, R. and de Valence, G., 1999,
p.240)
Timing
Value managementstudies have application at all phases of the asset life cycle, covering planning,
procurement, maintenance and management, and disposal. A value management study may be
initiated at any of the following stages of the project life cycle.
The greatest potential saving is possible at the earliest stage in the project life cycle. Both the study
objectives and the mix of stakeholders in the workshop group are determined by the particular
phase at which the study is conducted. It is important that the use of value management is planned
well ahead so that the study or studies are conducted in good time so that maximum benefit can be
achieved.
Initiation Criteria
There are number of initiation criteria discussed below. These provide the necessary justification for
commissioning a value management study.
Because of the potential for

The Abortion For A Minor
Support legislation and opposition Relating to notice of and consent to an abortion for a minor.
Abortion for minors is a major public health concern in the United States. There are more than
300,000 births to teens each year, increasing the risk of both the mother and the baby s health.
Abortions on minors have raised political, clinical, social, and economic awareness. In order to
make effective changes to abortionfor the minor one must produce empirical evidence, to evaluate
policy options for persons involved in public health policy and legislation. In January 2000, Texas
enacted a law requiring physicians to notify the parent before an abortion is done with a minor, or

The only way for minors to seek abortion without involving their parents is to petition for a
judicial bypass, from the courts. Most States are now being applying the parental involvement
of one or more parent to be notified or consent before a minor daughter legally has an abortion.
Some states require one of two types of parental involvement, which involves notifying one or
both Parent. So far about 38 states now required some type of parental involvement in a minor s
decision to have an abortion. Out of these 38 states, 21 of the states require one or both parents to
give consent to the procedure, 12 require one or both parents be notified and 5 require both
consent and notification before an elective abortion can occur. Three of these require both parents
to consent. The parental involvement laws from the Court have clarified the legal position on
abortion regulation making it difficult for a female goes for an abortion. (Guttmacher, 2013). In
Texas, the parental notification and consent laws had an effect on birth and abortion rates for
minors with notification laws reducing birth and abortion rate with the 16 17 year old females.
There is a decline in teen pregnancy in the United States with ongoing attempts in the prevention
through public policy and initiatives. Today about thirty nine states

  • 2. The Struggle For Independence Between Deep Rooted African... Who were the Mau Mau? What fueled their short lived but symbolic rebellion? What is their significance in the struggle for independence that occurred in Kenya? What does understanding the insurgency teach us of the clashes between deep rooted African culture and the force of European civilization mission? The rebellion surprised the British early on in 1952 by its aggressiveness and early success in rallying up the masses for a common cause, equality. For decades the white British settlers took their lands and sent the indigenous Kikuyu into reservations which could not even come close to sustaining their ever growing pastoral population. The Second World War seems to have been the turning point for the majority of Kenyans who wanted equality with the Europeans (Elkins, 2005, p. 22) . However this was not only in Kenya, all around the continent African soldiers who had bled for the British empire discovered that the European man died just as he did when shot or stabbed, and this took away the superiority complex some of them might have had earlier. The duration and protracted effort of the counterinsurgency beg an evaluation of its influence on the fate of Kenya as a colony. Yet, decolonization did not arrive until nearly a decade later. The Mau Mau was as a result of African nationalism in Kenya, a somewhat violent resistance to imperialists and colonialist scattered across their lands and their resistance to demands for gradual political reform. • 3. Impact Of Endangered Species This report will be discussing and talking about endangered species and the impacts they have on ecosystems. Endangered species is a species of animal or plants at risk of extinction because of human activity, changes in climate, ruining of ecosystems, etc. This report will be split into different sections discussing different examples of endangered speciesand the impacts that they have on different ecosystems. Blue whales, weighing in at 200 tonnes are the largest ever known animal to live on the planet. Sadly, after whaling has occurred it has made the species endangered with only 10000 to 25000 remaining. Blue whales play a significant role in keeping the food chain stable and helping with the reproduction of other species. In the marine ecosystem whales help control the distribution of food by helping to keep a stable food chain and ensuring that certain marine species do not overpopulate the ocean, however, Blue whales are being killed and the food distribution in the ocean is becoming unstable and causing major changes in the food supply of many other marine life A Blue Whale is able to consume as much as 40 million krill per day, so the impact on the marine ecosystem would be huge because overtime krill will overpopulate which causes problems in maintaining a food chain because the more krill there is the more food they will eat so because of their new overpopulation it could make other animals become extinct. If Blue Whales become extinct then marine life will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Diagnosed With Stage IIi Breast Cancer Marybeth has been healthy for the most of her life, however, she was diagnosed with stage III breast cancer in October, 2015. After the surgery, she went for one chemo therapy. She was supposed to have 4 sessions. But she decided not to take the rest of the chemo therapy due to her financial hardship at the time. She was ready whenever the Lord wanted her. She drove to work a week after her surgery, and she kept telling herself that she could do this. At the age of 70, another wonderful opportunity emerged. Marybeth was offered the position of Clinical Supervisor at UW Parkside. She enjoys observing first and second year education majors in their field experiences. Marybeth s life has been a roller coaster. There have been ups and downs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Marybeth thinks her life as integrative. She had a great childhood, a rewarding teenage years, getting married and having children, helping with raising up her grandchildren. She has passed on many morals and values to the young generations. As Erikson stated in his psychosocial developmental stages, integrity is the opposite of self centered love. It is a sense of acceptance that this is one s only life. (Berzoff, 2011) She tries to contribute more to her family and society and wants to live a regret free life, she also accepts her own death in the future. She is very involved with community work. She volunteers at different organizations, agencies and clubs. She was very involved when she was young, and to this day, she still tries to catch up with everything she used to do at the age of 71. She told me that she was satisfied with her life. The more she does, the more satisfied she is. She is well presented the activity theory of aging. The activity theory of aging proposes that older adults are happiest when they stay active and maintain social interactions. These activities, especially when meaningful, help the elderly to replace lost life roles after retirement and, therefore, resist the social pressures that limit an older person s world. The theory assumes a positive relationship between activity and life satisfaction. Activity theory reflects the functionalist perspective that the equilibrium, that an individual ... • 5. A Link Between Africa And The Rest Of The World African civilization, like most other societies have their own set of creation stories which can be seen in the Christian Bible or folk stories that are told in other parts of the world. One example is the Asante Tower to Heaven which can be seen as a parallel to the Tower of Babel story told in the book of Genesis in the Bible. Both involved people on Earth trying to reach God in heaven by building towers and ultimately failing. Just this example can show a link between Africaand the rest of the world. These creation myths, from the San, Dogon, and Yoruba people, come from the prominent local religions from early times in different parts of Africa. These stories and religious rituals lasted until Christian missionaries came and converted a large portion of the population to Christianity, which diminished those that adhered to the original religions. Another topic heavily discussed by those interviewed was the economic status of those in Africa today. Jamie spoke about her concern for African poverty, I would have to say that I care most about the high amount of poverty in Africa, I mean our poor over here is their rich . Another interviewee, Allison expressed a similar sentiment, I care most about the underdevelopment of Africa, there s a lot of people over there that is less fortunate than we are over here and they have less opportunities over there . This phenomenon of Africa being perceived as underdeveloped was discussed by Walter Rodney in How Africa Developed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Biological Processes Of Dairy Cattle Essay In today s world, many infants are allergic to certain proteins naturally present in cow s milk. Due to the huge volume of milk products consumed by the human race, there is a need to get rid of this allergy causing protein and eliminate this allergic reaction. AgResearch has investigated ways to manipulate the genetic material in dairy cattle by using the process of GeneKnockdown , with the aim to create a cow which produces milk which doesn t contain the proteinresponsible for the allergic reactions, the Beta lacto globulin protein or BLG . Scientists have been successful in creating Daisy the Cow, who is a cloned calf genetically modified to produce milk which does not contain the BLG protein. I will be discussing the biological processes behind the cloning of Daisy the cow, and the decisions made by scientists to use methods for genetically modifying the cow s genes from whom Daisy was cloned, for the benefit of humans. There are specific reasons AgResearch used processes like Gene Knockdown and cloning by Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer SCT to get the result they wanted. The stakes are high to ensure the cloned cow Daisy survives and is healthy. Therefore AgResearch needed to choose procedures which were most likely to yield successful results. The whole project and process cost around 50 million dollars to produce one cow, and with historical success rates very low they could potentially lose funding and be shut down if the project didn t produce any successful ... • 7. Memory Work With Children By Linda Goldman Memory Work with Children by Linda Goldman (62) Memory work interventions are great to use with children, since during this time they are starting to form memories. Through memory work children are able to retell their stories and the stories of others, and are able to create new stories or recall memories through making meaningful projects (as stated in Neimeyer, 2012). Through this intervention as Goldman states, a bereaved child constructs the deceased though an ongoing cognitive process of establishing memories, feelings, and actions appropriate to the child s developmental level (as stated in Neimeyer, 2012, p. 240). Memorywork is an intervention that will help children not to forget about the deceased. Memory work can take the form of writing, objects, albums, picture stories, and memory boxes. Another method that goes along with memory work is speaking with the client to help him or her process what they have experienced and remember. As counselor, I would ask questions: what they remember about the deceased person, what their initial thoughts were, how did they find out about the death, what are some initial reactions to certain emotions, where was the client when the death occurred, questions that will get the client to start to think about their loss as well as where they are now mentally in the process (as stated in Neimeyer, 2012). For children, voicing these answers will help them process the death as well as show them it is okay to feel this way. By ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Annotated Bibliography On The Library Introduction: Library users today are able to meet most their information needs through the sources outside the library. The ubiquitous access to internet today and the rise of the companies like Google, Amazon and Wikipedia have provided viable alternatives to users for their information needs. So libraries are experiencing an evolutionary change in their traditional services. And the rapid evolving digital technologies can be seen as an opportunity for libraries as their need to evolve in the face of these new challenges. Linked Data which works as the framework behind the Semantic Web, an idea developed by Tim Berners Lee, the inventor of World Wide Web , aims at revolving the Internet into one large database instead of simply distinct collection of data. Today, where internet has been the first choice for the users to look for information, libraries should seize the advantage of the concept behind Linked Data. By attempting to make their resources available on the web, libraries can bring back their users because of the allure of the high quality and authoritative resources owned by the libraries. Such technological development can definitely bring a number of benefits to libraries by allowing the libraries and their resources to connect with their users on the web. Professionals in the field have considered the use of Linked data technologies for the benefit of Libraries. Many papers have been written by experts underlying the benefits in the past decade. • 9. Investigating the Relationship Between Superstious Belief... In times of uncontrollability, there is evidence to suggest that individuals tend to invoke superstious beliefs. Anecdotal evidence has also suggested that highly superstitious people believe that they have a level of control over situations where they objectively have none. For example, some people have lucky charms that they believe allow for a greater sense of perceived control of external factors. Locus of control has often been used to explain the relationship of perceived control and superstious belief and has been dichotomized as internal or external (Rotter, 1966). Whereas an internal locus of control is inherent of the belief that all events are due to internal dispositions, an external locus of control believes that events are a result of other people, or chance/luck. This concept is associated with the Learned helplessness explanation (Abramson et al., 1978; Maier Seligman, 1976). What this explanation proposes is that participant s attribute the uncontrollability of a situation to internal dispositions i.e., they display an internal locus of control, and, by extension, denote failure as a result of not having any control over the situation. Contrastingly, individuals who don t succumb to the learned helplessness effect are those who place failure outside the realms of their own self. I.e., they present an external locus of control. This has been validated by Dudley (1999), who found that participants with a higher level of superstition demonstrated less of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Role Of Textile In Early Civilization 2. In early civilization, it was normal for those who hunted to use the skins of animals as a covering. As people began depending more upon agriculture, this changed. Textiles were a needed product. Women spun the yarn by using a distaff and spindle. She held the distaff which was a long rod that held the loose fibers, along with the spindle, a little rod that revolved as she let it fall. This way of spinning, twisted the yarnas it was wound. Women had simplified this process to allow them to accomplish other tasks at the same time they spun the yarn. Once the yarn was spun, both men and women would help weave the cloth for clothing. • 11. Affirmative Action And Its Effect On Minority Minorities... Affirmative action is described in sociology as, policies and programs that aim to avoid discrimination and redress past discrimination through the active recruitment of qualified minorities for jobs, promotions, and educational opportunities. (i.e. Exp. Soc., pg 280). In other words, the law was put in place as an attempt to create pluralism in the United Statesstructure of opportunity. When describing affirmative action, the generalized assumption is individuals being handed opportunities based only on their ethnicity. Whether or not that opinion rings through to the majority, consider the events that lead to the enactment of affirmative action in the first place. The structure of opportunity in the United States has always been a biased and unfair in its distribution of opportunities. Since the beginning, the structure of opportunity has always been in favor of whiter, and ultimately wealthier Americans. Segregation, discrimination, and complete disregard for people of different ethnicity and color made it as such. People of color were seen as an inferior, and ultimately poorer group of people than people who were white. In earlier time, a metaphorical glass ceiling held back student of different ethnicity from becoming more educated. The glass ceiling that held them back for so long was the structure of opportunity being as biased as it is. In essence, the economic conditions, culture, and other aspects of certain people had an impact on how they lived in society. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Role Of The Greek Gods In The Odyssey Lindsey Knight 4/11/17 Before I read the Odyssey, my views on the Greek Gods was a bunch of powerful immortals who watched the world play out in front of them like a game of parcheesi. But now I know that the people around the time of the Trojan War, the gods were believed to cheat, move their pieces more than the dice said, take out an opponent s piece when they weren t supposed to. Odysseus was a piece on the gameboard, and all he wanted to do was get home, but the odds were not always in his favor. Or should I say, the gods. In Greek times, gods were created to have a reason for why things happen on Earth, like rain, sun, and lightning. Of course, we now have scientific evidence of why these things happen, but the gods are still important to our learning today. One reason mythology is important is it debates between the good and evil in men (reference.com). Throughout the Odyssey, we see the conflict between the kind, family man of Odysseus and the grueling, vicious, tough man, fighting for his way home. Of course, it was not smooth sailing, but it could have been smoother with or without the help of the gods. Athena is the goddess of wisdom, and she chose to help Odysseus get home to Ithaca. • 13. Flood Insurance Prevention Many homeowners feel that their house and property will always be protected as long as the annual insurance premiums are paid on time and standard coverage is in place. However, there is a big misconception when it comes to repairs and replacement costs for a dwelling that has suffered water damage due to flooding. Homeowners with properties located within a floodplain typically must purchase additional floodinsurancein order to be protected from a severe loss that could leave a household in financial ruin and without a place to live. According to the Insurance Information Institute, It s important to note that, as a rule, homeowners and renters insurance does not cover damage from flooding. To protect your home, be sure to understand the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Insurance through the NFIP can only be purchased if a person s home is located within a designate area that is at risk for potential flooding. If a property owner is unsure about their dwelling s eligibility with the NFIP, he or she should contact the president of the local homeowner s association or check with an insurance agency in the area. These individuals will be able to provide a map of the local flood plains and make area residents aware of the need to purchase flood insurance. If you are a renter or homeowner (residential policy); or business owner (non residential policy) and your property is located in a NFIP participating community, you can purchase a policy, explained FEMA. There is typically a 30 day wait period between when you buy a flood insurance policy and when it goes into effect, but there are some exceptions. During the home buying process, realtors should alert all prospective buyers if a house they are selling is in a flood zone and therefore requires the purchase of flood insurance. This is also something a home inspector should make note of in the report for prospective buyers. Typically bank lenders will not sign off on a mortgage unless flood insurance is purchased and in place at the time of closing, so it is beneficial to be aware of FEMA s 30 day wait ... • 15. Mary Rowlandson And Franklin s Views On Western Society... When the colonists arrived to the new world, they were blind to the problems before them. They were in a time filled with thematic tribulations and conquest. They came across a group of people they never knew or seen before; they called them Savages or Natives. Various encounters with the Native Americans were documented with both negative and positive connotation. During this period of trial and error, time with the Natives seemed often terroristic and peaceful. In various colonial texts several authors have documented their experiences with the Native Americans, and gave their personal analysis of the Natives behavior, customs, and beliefs. Mary Rowlandson, for example, experienced terror from the Natives; she gave a chilling look... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before Rowlandson, there was no actual documentation of a front row seat to the world of the Native Americans. For example, during Rowlandson s fourth remove she witnessed the death of a pregnant mother and the child (264). Imagine hearing this for the first time as a colonist; immediately an automatic biased opinion occurs. In Rowlandson s case, there was more corruption and devilish behavior that clouded the good. Reconciliation In Australia Reconciliation between the Canadian government and aboriginals Reconciliation between the Canadian government and aboriginals remains one of the most challenging problems for the country. Scientists define reconciliation as the process of building a mutually respectful interaction between aboriginal peoples and non aboriginals in Canada. This can be achieved through proper reflection on the past conflicts, acknowledgement of the past mistakes made by both sides of the process, as well as considerable changes in the future. This essay concentrates on the efforts of reconciliation by the Canadian government and the impact of residential schools on First Nations communities. Firstly, it examines how residential schools have impacted Aboriginals. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The government has, over the years since made various attempts at reconciliation including the Kelowna accord and the Royal Commission on Aboriginal people. The Royal Commission was a huge step, however, a CBC news article noted that more apologies are needed to fully reconcile with aboriginals. An example would be calling on the pope and the church to apologize for their part in the residential schools. The most important steps, are the acceptance of responsibility and the expression of regret. For many aboriginal people, a commitment to reconciliation means promoting more specified efforts, as well greater funding, for Indigenous initiatives. Reconciliation, numerous aboriginal leaders accept, ought to be motioned by the government s responsiveness to aboriginal needs and demands. This point is a very important one as reconciliation requires a vast number of responsibilities and obligations. In this case, the Canadian government has much more if not all the responsibility and obligation compared to the aboriginals. The aboriginal s role is to bring smart decisions to the table whenever they are able to. The relevant example is the concerns expressed over the bill C 44, which recommended that complaints against First Nations governments should have been considered by independent First Nations institutions. The organism responsible for the occurrence of IM is the Epstein Barr virus (EBV). This virus belongs to the Herpes group and was first identified in cultured cells from biopsies of Burkitt s Lymphoma. The patient group that is mainly affected are 15 to 25 year olds. Infants and younger children have been affected, but the virus is very rarely found in middle aged or elderly people. 2) Explain the principle of the glandular fever test. A patient sample is added to an absorbent pad on the test strip which contains bovine erythrocyte glycoprotein. The patient sample mobilises the blue microspheres that are contained in the test strip and they move up the strip. The test strip contains a region of immobilised bovine erythrocyte glycoprotein in the result window. If any IM heterophile antibodies are present in the specimen, then a blue line should appear in the result window. The Clearview IM test strips used in the laboratory provides an integrated control feature. 3) What is a heterophile antibody? The Power of Words In recent years, it has become popular for many of America s great literary masterpieces to be adapted into film versions. As easy a task as it may sound, there are many problems that can arise from trying to adapt a book into a movie, being that the written word is what makes the novel a literary work of art. Many times, it is hard to express the written word on camera because the words that express so much action and feeling can not always be expressed the same way through pictures and acting. One example of this can be found in the comparison of Ken Kesey s novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, and the film version directed in 1975 by Milos Forman. The novel details the time that R.P. However, she is heavily endowed in the chest area, and Chief says that one can tell that it makes her bitter to think about it. In the film, she is a petite lady that does not have a noticeably large chest in any way. It is hard to imagine the Nurse without her chest, so it makes one wonder why the film does not include this aspect. In the novel, when Nurse Ratched and McMurphy have a physical fight, McMurphy rips the front of her starchy white uniform, exposing her breasts, and her vulnerability. At this point in the novel it seems that McMurphy has won the battle, and it is one of the more symbolic parts of the story. Since her chest does not become a matter of importance in the movie, this part of the novel is not shown, and the reader may be left wondering why, as it certainly adds to the story and to the characters of McMurphy and the Nurse. McMurphy s description is also portrayed differently in the novel than in the film. Informed consent is a right given to the patient that provides an opportunity for the patient to actively participate in their own healthcare. But when it comes to the pediatric population, children are not guaranteed this right. While children are often allowed to voice their opinions during the informed consent process, this does not assure that the parents and healthcare professionals will take the children s opinions into consideration. A humorous joke to someone might be the most offensive insult another person has ever heard. For example, one might be watching a comedy show and suddenly a man is telling a woman to shut up and make him a sandwich. The male audience will generally find it hilarious. However, the viewers who just so happen to be women might not be so keen on the sexist remark. It is crucial to recognize the messages behind the media we see and whether one ought to be upholding them or not. In the music video for Black Spiderman; Logic has Damian dress up as Spiderman which signifies: black people deserve better roles in the media such as superheroes, it s important for black kids to have representation, and overall, it s refreshing to see a whole new different perspective. For starters, black people should be given more positive roles rather than always being portrayed negatively by playing the typical: thug, gangster, rude, or violent character. For the most part, what the public is shown on their screens stays engraved in their heads. This eventually projects in their words and actions. Therefore, seeing black people frequently act out as problematic characters can be harmful as to how society genuinely perceives African Americans in real life. This entry directly enters Netflix s niche market and now Netflix has to find a way to differentiate. For starters, what would be Netflix s entry strategy to these new markets? It could ship the DVDs from USA but this option would have serious disadvantages like import tariffs, shipping costs, long delivery time which would lead to customer dissatisfaction and a very small market share with probably losses rather than profits. If Netflix would open a subsidiary in Europe it would not have problems like the latter but it would need investors since financing the whole subsidiary may present a problem for Netflix. Another issue is that Europe, as a difference to the US, is consisted of many small independent countries with their own laws and import tariffs so this could be a problem as well. Another problem is the customers preferences. If Netflix would try to ship movies from the US (which would also present shipping costs) the European customers might not like US movies that much. The various techniques used to create shots more real than life itself were groundbreaking for this time period. In the past, sets of films were unrealistic and exaggerated; they were telling stories outside of reality, so their sets were not attempting to immerse their viewer in the films location.
