The Greek Island Of Crete
Located on the Greek island of Crete is the ancient Palace of Knossos. It is found on the outskirts
of the modern day city, Heraklion. The city of Knossos, as shown below, is directly focused in the
centre of Crete and is slightly off the north coast. Even more so, it is situated south of the Greek
mainland.
Knossos, in simplistic terms, is an ancient Minoan palace and surrounding city on the island of Crete
, where it was sung of by Homer in his Odyssey. The marvelled settlement was established in
1900 BCE and was later destroyed by a combination of factors, such as earthquakes and invading
Mycenaean s. However, it was rebuilt to its former glory. The palace covered an area of 22,000
square meters, which was complimented by multistorey buildings with an elaborate layout. Before
its discovery, Knossos was considered as a city of myth. Evidently, this immediately changed once
this ancient society was unearthed to reveal the mysteries that were for years left unknown. To this
day, the reconstructed palace is on display for tourists from around the world to gain an insight into
the ancient Minoan society.
The excavations at Knossos were executed into three main dating periods: 1900 1931, 1957 1960,
1969 1970. The initial investigation of this site that began in 1900, however, comprised of the most
important discoveries. The excavations at Knossos were extensive, in which multiple archaeologists
were required to unearth this grand piece of

Portland Mayor s Mansion Essay
Experience History Inside and Out at Portland Mayor s Mansion
By Stella Bouldin
Portland Mayor s Mansion Bed and Breakfast doesn t look like much from the outside, but take a
step inside to discover a warm and welcoming home restored to period beauty. Take a few steps out
the back entry and you will be in historic Laurelhurst Park with 39 acres of landscaped trails,
groves, and grassy areas.
Portland Mayor s Mansion
Portland Mayor s Mansion, originally the H. Russell House, appears from the outside to be a
school or other official building. It is so formal. But, take one step inside and you will find much
more.

A recent guest comments, The house is absolutely gorgeous and filled with Asian art. We loved
relaxing on the front porch in the evening before heading out for dinner.
The owner is a natural host. He is a great conversationalist and extremely knowledgeable about
Portland and the surrounding area. He knows every detail about the history of the mansion as
well. He freely provides historical information about the area as well as recommendations for a day
of exploring the off the beaten path areas of Portland, Oregon.
Rooms with historic significance
History is a part of each of four guest rooms. Each room is named for a significant person in area
history. A placard posted in each room includes historical details about the namesake and their
contributions to history. Room amenities include the softest sheets ever, according to several guest
reviews. Sleeping is easy in the quiet, relaxed, and comfortable rooms.
Smoking and pets are not permitted on the property. It is also important to note that children under

Ulfric War Fair
Shackle, shackle, shackle! As hundreds of dark skinned slaves tied from feet to feet with metal
chains made these sounds. Their backs ache from digging, and planting as they cry from pain. As
the newest shipment of slaves moved along you can see through their teary eyes that they had fear.
Yet one slave enraged by the fact that he must be a slave decided that it wasn t fair.
Ulfric a young, skeletal looking boy at the age of 16 had just arrived in the slave town with tens
of other slaves as they were the newest shipment of workers. Taken from their homelands and their
families and forced to work on the plantations. Ulfric was assigned the role of plantation farmer,

And so on weeks by weeks the soldiers in the fortress started to die one by one. Than sooner than
later there were more guns than soldiers as nearly half of them died. During mid December was
when the soldiers inside started to lose firewood and so on more of them died due to the coldness.
While the soldiers suffered a cold death the slaves celebrated their victory with a toast of wine and
fine beer they had found in the cellars.
Hip Hip Hooray As multiple slaves yelled at once.
Many dankie to you Ulfric Someone says in Afrikaan language.
But the war was not over yet.
On the last day of December was the day that Ulfric gave the order. Burn the fortress walls down, lit
your arrows with fire and shoot at the main gate. He says in a very aggressive voice.
As the dry crumbled wood walls burned to the ground the slaves charged in with a bang as their
muskets fire all at once. They charged and battered every door, every room until they found the
mayor of the town.
I surrender, just don t shoot. As the plumped up mayor quickly says in a stuttering voice as he
scrambles under his desk.
Few years have passed since the rebellion which freed more than 500 slaves from the town once
known for being a harsh slave community, but now it is controlled by Ulfric as he rules over the
now beautiful, mingled, trading

Our group decided to explore the operations of a local small business called Clarus Consulting
Group. The business was founded in 2004 and currently has three locations, but their main office is
in Birmingham, AL. The other two offices are in Atlanta, Georgia and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Clarus specializes in managerial consulting for a wide variety of clients including non profits,
private companies, small and large sized companies. While management consulting is the main
service, they also offer strategic planning, team development, and individual coaching. Throughout
this paper we are going to explore the company s current operations and analyze their operations

Inputs would be time from the consultants, data gathered from the surveys, interviews, and focus
groups, and resources used for the transformation. Once all of the data is gathered and the
problem is clear, main themes can be identified. During the engagement with the client to deliver
the findings, stakeholders will often join the meetings. During the process, all participants are
able to become a part of the strategic process and this helps to win support from the participants.
Using the tactics described above will allow companies to: increase employee involvement, get
everyone involved in the decision making, and allow companies to understand what is needed by
this customer. Clarus takes a team approach when working on projects. All employees are
involved in the process. The output varies depending on the agreed upon contract between Clarus
and the client. Some clients get a full report, survey analysis, and implementation assistance if a
strategic plan was developed. Some clients prefer simpler results and receive notes from their
meeting with Clarus. Strong communication is imperative in the consulting process, so clients are
always provided with a high level of debriefing of what was accomplished and discussed at the

Persuasive Essay On Honey Bees
For every one out of three bites we take, it is due to the work of the honey bees. Many of the
foods such as fruits require pollination from a pollinator to be produced. As well as fruits, there
are also vegetables, nuts, seeds, fiber, and hay (Hoyt, 10). All essential to the world and all must
be pollinated. The little insects play a huge role in maintaining natural plant communities and
ensuring production of seeds in most flowering plants. In the United Kingdom, honey bees
create an additional crop value of 165 million every year, with no additional cost to farmers
(Gross, 2). With the hundreds of species of bees, they are the world s leading pollinators. It is
only now that we see that we have taken pollination for granted. Praising pollination as one of
nature s free services. It is not one of the factors that are considered when looking at the
agricultural possibilities of a given farm area, such as water, fertilizers, or pesticides (Hoyt, 13).
All around the world, there have been years recorded where the honey bees just suddenly
disappear. It is due to all of the agricultural and climate change. Honey bees should not travel too
far from their hive, but recently it is not possible for them to remain close and collect nectar as
well because of the decline of plants they can pollinate (Hoyt, 13). Their voyaging distances have
increased and not every honey bee makes it back to the hive due to the long distances they now
have to travel (Hoyt, 15). To decrease the distance they travel, humans must plant more gardens
for the honey bees to pollinate instead of allowing them to venture out blindly in search of the
nectar they need (Hoyt, 16). If Colony Collapse Disorder were to prevail over the honey bees, it
would spell disaster for the honey business as well as our entire food population. One in ten
hives suffers from Colony Collapse Disorder (Calabro, 8). The good news is that Colony
Collapse Disorder has been in decline over recent years. Some researchers even say that the
endangerment of honey bees is a false case. There are statistics that show that many of the foods
that honey bees are responsible for pollinating such as apples and almonds have actually increased
over the years (Calabro, 8). If the food

The Homelessness Of A Home
Having a Home People cannot be fulfilled without a home, because a home is a place people
can go back to, a place that gives them stability, where people can have their own privacy, gives
them comfort, and can symbolize something different. Without a home, people cannot be
fulfilled, there are only places in which they can rest, but never sleep; there is no place that they
can call their own. People with a home always have a place to go back to, they know that no
matter what happens that place will always be there. With out a home a person does not have this;
they would have to constantly think of the next area to go to for shelter. They would have to
always plan ahead of time. With out a home they would not have that stability that comes... Show

For some people it is not the home that comforts them, but it is the people that live in it, their
family is what comforts them rather than the home. For other people the home is a place that holds
nothing more than bad memories that they want nothing more than to forget. For some people a
home is not required for fulfillment, their home is just a place for them to sleep then go out and
live their life, home is just a rest stop for them. There are many people who travel the world for
weeks at a time, they sleep in run down hotels or not even in proper shelter, they do not go back
to a home, but they still achieve fulfillment. Going around the world helping people who are less
fortunate is what fulfills them. People who tend not to have a home have other ways of
fulfillment. Then there are people who are minimalist who attempt to live on as little as possible,
for them their home is bare and maybe small. For minimalist the home is not there to comfort them
or give them stability, the home is just a place that they bought because they had to if they did not
want to rely on anyone (Quindlen) else for

The s Call For Individual s Responsibility Of Privacy Essay
However, Abram s call for individual s responsibility of privacy by limiting access to certain
information is impossible due to the very nature of social media. In Alice E Marwick and danah
boyd s 2014 article, Networked Privacy: How Teenagers Negotiate Context in Social Media,
they argue that because social media is, as previously discussed by Werbin and Fuchs, a
networked environment that thrives on sharing user generated data (Marwick boyd 1054).
Furthermore, Marwick and boyd explain this argument through a paraphrased statement from
new media studies scholar Jenny Sunden (2003), which states, to exist online, people must type
themselves into being (Marwick boyd 1054). In other words, each like , post, and comment all
contribute to our existence online; to use social media we must put ourselves and our
information online. Moreover, rather than focusing on Abram s individual responsibility model
which Marwick boyd call access control list , Marwick boyd suggest that their networked
privacy model where privacy becomes the responsibility of each member of the social media
network fits our social media platforms better (1064 1065). In other words, through their study of
how American teenagers manage privacy online, Marwick boyd conclude that it is incredibly
difficult to maintain privacy on social media, because one shared photo to a few friends on
Facebook means the responsibility to keep this information private transfers to these friends (1064).

The History of Deaf Education Essay
Long before Thomas Gallaudet founded the first permanent school for the deaf in America,
controversy as to the educability and best method of communicating with the deaf have existed. In
fact, in the Biblical Times section of the book The Deaf Community in America Socrates, in
conversation with Hermogenes is quoted saying, Suppose that we have no voice or tongue, and
wanted to indicate objects to one another, should we not, like the deaf and dumb, make signs with
the hands, head and the rest of the body? Hermogenes replied, How could it be otherwise, Socrates?

educate French deaf children (Lane 34) at the National Institution for the deaf Mutes in Paris, was

there, Gallaudet studied Sicard s methods which allowed, the deaf to comprehend and formulate

After spending several months studying at the institute, Clerc accompanied Gallaudet back to

In this fast growing society, people are constantly in a rush and go about their daily life activities
under a lot of pressure and stress. As a result, unpleasant situation happened due to careless
intention parents who leave their children in an enclosed vehicle for long periods of time. This
forgetfulness attitude would bring harmful and dangerous to their children due to lack of oxygen
supply to the brain. Some of the children would become unconscious and would eventually die if

the emergence of Martha Stewart as an entrepreneur and the establishment of her company in the
late 1990s. The case also outlines the decline of the Martha Stewart brand and the subsequent fall in

Her decision to go to jail was a huge decision that she had to make and in hindsight it worked out
beautifully for her. I wouldn t say that she is back on top but she is in a lot better place now then
she was before and I think that this is due to her showing the public that she was willing to bite
the bullet and go to jail willingly. I also feel that her letters and reports from jail really showed the
public that she was really paying her dues and that maybe she was deserving of being back in the
real world.
5. Martha should lay low key for the time and continue to live in the good vibes that she is getting
from the public. She seems to have a lot of things back and I feel that she should structure her
comments and actions more around a defensive approach and thoroughly think out her nest few
steps.
6. I think that if she were to acknowledge any mistake she may or may not have made, that it
would throw her back into negativity and mud her name. She needs to focus on becoming the
mogul that she once was and work up not dwelling on the past. She served her time and payed
her dues to the public and she shouldn t relive all of that. It happened years ago and by now a lot
of people have forgotten about it all. I think now, she should stay consistent with her story. Don t
admit you made a mistake because then people will be mad at you for not owning up to it when

Cholera Is An Infectious Bacterial Disease Of The Small...
Cholera is an infectious bacterial disease of the small intestine. This bacterium has spread through
the world covering about 50 countries that came about through 7 pandemics. This disease is a
worldwide public health concern affecting 3 5 million people each year, killing 120,000. Before, it
was thought that choleraspread through a sort of fog known as a miasma however now we know the
whole mechanism for the cholera toxin. It was discovered that cholera is transmitted through fecal
oral transmission and is thus a waterborne bacterium. Although a very deadly and disturbing
disease, even without medical education, this disease can be managed and usually even treated.
Before science was as far advanced as it is today, people were unsure how cholera was spread or
transmitted from person to person. The Europeans and Americans believed it was spread
through a miasma (like dirty fog) and got breathed in. Many people also believed it was brought
from various immigrant populations or was a disease of the poor. John Snow at the time was
one of the few people skeptic of the popular belief that cholera was spread through Miasma. He
was a believer instead in a theory put forth by Girolamo Fracastoro known as the germ theory. The
germ theory of disease states that some diseases are caused by microorganisms and that
reproduction within their hosts can cause a disease. It wasn t until the work performed by Louis

Write An Essay On The Persians Battle
The Battle The Persians staged a preemptive defensive posture in the plains of Gaugamela. The
recently manicured landscape was ideal for the implementation of the scythed chariots. They
were placed up front with a tiny group of fighters. There were a left and right wing of mixed
fighters from throughout the land. The front forces led the attack followed shortly by an element
that expanded to attack the left flank of the Macedonians. Darius was at the center, engulfed by
his finest fighters, a Persian King tradition. On the right were Greek mercenaries and the Persian
Horse Guards with the famous Immortals at the right and center. The Macedonians were divided
into two groups, Alexander directly commanding the right, and Parmenion on the left. Alexander
fought with his chosen elite element and light cavalry. Parmenion s orders were to maneuver in
the left quadrant, while his commanding officer delivered the calculated blow from the right.
From there it moved the Phalanx, which was placed on a double line. The ratio increased from
that of Issus at 2:1 to 5:1, and eclipsing the Phalanx front by over a mile. The rear formation of
mercenaries is to attack any opposition that followed. Alexander s reassessed plan consisted of
engaging Darius right flanks creating a gap in order to conduct a strategic strike in the center. His

physical documentation of Nick s spelling performance, I was able to monitor Nick s spelling
performance every time the spelling work was conducted. Typically, he would get the entirety of
the spelling list correct, except for one or two words that were incorrect. These mistakes were
consistently problems with medial vowels in lengthy words. One thing that I found interesting was
that Nick would actually sound out the word while writing it. The words that he recognized with
automaticity would be jotted down immediately with accuracy. The unfamiliar words would leave
Nick contemplating the order of the letters (usually the medial vowels) and literally sounds the
word out loud to himself. My mentor teacher truly loves this aspect of Nick s problem solving, and

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Using Refracting Telescopes
Refraction of light through different media
Light travels in waves through space in straight lines. In a vacuum the speed of light is 3x10вЃёm
/s, when light travels through different substances called mediums, it will change speed depending
on the optical density. If light travels through a medium at a right angle, it s velocity will change
but not the direction. However if light enters the medium at an angle, it s direction and speed will
change.
The index of refraction is the ratio of the speed of light in a vacuum to the speed of light in the
medium: n = c / v n = the medium c = the speed of light in a vacuum v = speed of light in a medium
(The index of refraction does not use any units)
For example, the refractive index of air is 1 and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Refracting telescopes are more reliable because they are permanently fixed which in turn makes the
images produced steadier and clearer
Disadvantages of Refracting telescopes
There are many disadvantages when using refracting telescopes. One of which is chromatic
aberration. Chromatic Aberration happens when light travel through the glass lens and the different
colours that make up white light refract at different angles. This causes the observer to see a
rainbow around the image they are viewing.
One way to counteract the effects of chromatic aberration is to use multiple compensating lenses.
Another way to avoid chromatic aberration is to use a long object focal length this is the distance
between the focus and the objective
Another disadvantage is the difficulty of making the lenses. The objective lens need to have no
imperfections and the shape of the lens is thicker in the center and thunder on the edges which are
the only support_ hoch manes the lens v ey fragile on the edges and are more susceptible to damage
the largest objective lens for a refracting telescope is only 1 meter in

The evolution of technology has made a radical change in our society today. It has taken a toll in
the way operations systems work in many corporations and health industries. Many corporations
invest millions of dollars with a clear vision of the effective improvements they will be able to
make with a system of operation that is fast, secure, and saves time. The term saves time means, a
system is able to have one person do the job instead of 2 or 3 different staff members. This does not
only promote a glimpse of the future and the advances that technology has to offer. Through
technology and different gadgets available it automatically saves industries money ... Show more

For a human services provider the ability is critical in meeting objectives. Interoperability focuses
on care delivery. In the Administration for children and families, the three methods of
interoperability would be the information of sharing, exchanging, improve services of delivery. The
main goal would be to provide better outcome for children and their families.
The National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) Human Services (HS) Domain was established
by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and recognized by the NIEM Executive
Steering Council in March, 2012 to support information sharing and promote interoperability
between and beyond Human Service organizations in connection with federal, state, local, and tribal
agencies.
The initial scope of the NIEM HS Domain will be determined by the HS Domain Governance
Group. Here are some of the examples of data exchanges to be considered by this group:
New York City HHS Connect: A network of NYC agency exchanges that serve over 3 million
people with a wider range of needs from applying for standard benefit to the more complex needs of

Analysis Of The Poem Anastrophe Elegy By Rebecca Foust
The poem Anastrophe Elegy by Rebecca Foust tells the story of a woman who falls madly in love
with a man. This woman, was the it girl she was talented, smart, beautiful, and athletic. She had
many different roles in peoples lives such as girlfriend, wife, mother, friend, coach and many more.
However, she met a man whom she falls in lovewith. As a result of love she gives her all to him.
She went above and beyond for this man giving up much of herself to make sure he was happy.
After spending much of her time and money for the man she loved, he ups and leaves her. When
the love of her life left, he not only left with himself but he left with a part of her. The persona says
that the woman was not the same after he left. Throughout the poem there is a sense of grief
brought on from this tragic relationship and the unwarranted results of the relationship. Although
the woman in the story did not die, her spirit did die when the love of her life left. Therefore, the
theme of sadness is shown in this poem through the anastrophe structure, stylechoice of an elegy,
and the mood. Firstly, the theme of sadness is presented through the structure of an Anastrophe.
When it comes to poetry, the structure it is presented is very important. The structure of a poem can
determine the rhythm. Furthermore, it can make a poem sound fast pace, slow, anxious or calm.
The structure controls how one may read the poem or even perceive the poem. The author chooses

To Kill A Mockingbird Departure From Childhood Analysis
Childhood Flies When Time Passes By Theme: Departure from Childhood Much like youth, a
mockingbird is pure. It sings and spreads joy, but like everything in society, everything even all that
is beautiful, must die. Written by Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird is a novel that captures the
conditions and hardships of the American South during the early twentieth century. It particularly
describes the childhood of two children, Jem and Scout Finch. As a concept that interwines itself
into the progression of the story, the departure from childhood acts as the ultimate theme in the tale.

The departure from childhood is evident by the children fostering the manners and
characteristics of adults. This is demonstrated by Scout striving to become more feminine. When
Scout joins the missionary circle organized by Aunt Alexandra, she is confronted with her desire
to become a lawyer. In reply, she says: Nome, [I] just [want to be] a lady. (Lee 308) As an
adamant character, Scout would not disregard her aspiration to study law unless she has greater
ambitions to pursue. Prioritizing her femininity indicates Scout s increasing interest for her gender.
Moreover, she decides to join in social activities with women, associating herself with females
rather than her male friends, Jem and Dill. Apart from her newfound femininity, Scout exhibits
growing maturity. Upon ushering Boo Radley home after Bob Ewell s homicide, she wondered

Films Made During World War II
Films made during World War II provide a unique insight into the relationship between film and
society. Frank Capra s Why We Fight series, produced from 1942 to 1945, emphasises the use of
film by government for the purpose of propaganda. The representations of war within similar texts
promote an incomplete understanding of popular conceptions of life during the period.
Consequently, the issues with this film as a historical source stress the overt influence of the
director, and by extension, the government. This underlying intent behind the film is seen through
the distinct purpose of propagandastrategy. The purpose based production highlights the reciprocal
relationship concerning popular conceptions of the war between society and film. Accordingly,
study of these texts demonstrates how the ability of film to foster social cohesion in war
complements its function as a shared cultural event.
Films made during this period display some aspects of popular conceptions of life at war, despite
their limitations as a historical source. For example, the simultaneous position of Why We Fight as
propaganda and documentary gives insight into groups that accept or endorse its information.
Notably, Capra s series is correctly described as the centrepiece of the United States troop
indoctrination programme, due to its reported success and distortion of fact. This combination
reveals the overlap between the utilisation of film in this period as a source of both entertainment

Trucking jobs at one company may look very different from those at another, and their selection
systems should reflect that. It is also important to remember to follow any regulations in place
in the geographic location. With that said, recruitment strategies should be creative and try to
extend beyond the traditional methods. Referrals may be useful in the industry, if care is taken
to avoid adverse impact. It also makes sense to advertise in directed mediums, like in truck stops
across the country. If the organization has the money to invest, they could also build their talent
and provide training to the people they want to put into their talent pipeline by providing
courses leading to CDL licensure. This could create a sense of commitment to the organization
and reduce turnover. As far as selection, job history data may be more relevant to these jobs than
it is to others. It would also be wise to check into any criminal history the person has. Verification
of both of these sources is absolutely key to success. A physical would also be necessary to

China started having a government in the Shang dynasty. They ruled what would now be
Henan, Hubei, Shandong and part of Anhui. The Shang were an aristocratic society, or a

Shang city was Anyang, it was in a clearance deep inside the forest. In 1027 BC, the Zhou
overthrew the Shang and made their own dynasty. They were both very alike, and there was not
much change in culture. But the Zhou brought up many fresh ideas, which would seem obvious
because all people think in different ways, and have different solutions to their problems. As an
excuse of overthrowing the Shang, they said that the last Shang king had done so badly, that the
gods weren t satisfied, so they decided to let the Zhou rule. This is a part of the mandate of

Classical Approach To Utilitarianism
2.1. Classical approach
The Classical approach for utilitarianism has two main prominent thinkers who are Jeremy Bentham
and John Stuart Mills.
Jeremy Bentham s concept of Utilitarianism
The concept of Utilitarianism was developed by Jeremy Bentham (1748 1832). He belonged to
the positivist school of Jurisprudence. According to him every human life is governed by two
hedonistic principles that is pleasure and pain. He believed that every individual tries to
maximize his own and pleasure and also decrease pain as much as possible. Although it would
seem an individualistic perspective but he also applied this principle to the society as a whole.
According to him the role of every government in the society is to maximize the greatest good of
the greatest number. He also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He placed weight on the effectiveness of internal sanctions like guilt and remorse which serve to
regulate our actions. He believed that humans are those sorts which have social feelings, feelings
for others and are not only selfish. We care about people around us and when one inflicts harm
over the other then it leads to a painful experience in us. One feels guilty for what one has done.
With this he argued that conscience and sense of justice are emotions present in every human being
through which comes the sense which involves a desire to punish those who have harmed others.
Just like Bentham Mill also sought to reform law and social policy with his theory of utilitarianism.
The aim of increasing happiness underlies his argument of women s suffrage and free speech. It
can be seen best in his arguments regarding social status of women. He argued that it was
important to improve the status of women because they were capable of these cultivated faculties,
and denying them access to education and other facilities for development is resulting in a
significant loss of source of happiness for the

The Impact Of Federal Funds On The Workforce Will Affect...
Intro As my parents discuss the need to continue working several more years until retirement, I
have thought about how their continuation in the workforce will affect me after graduation. Are
there going to be less job opportunities available for the newly graduated because people like my
parents intend to work until they are 70? Also why do they believe they need to work until they
are 70? Is the low Federal Funds Rate, which sets the tone for other interest rates, impacting their
retirement savings? It is in hope of seeking answers to the questions I raised above that I selected
to research the impact the federal funds rate has on the economy and weather the continued low rate
needs to be increased.
Research
The Federal Funds Rate is arguably the most important interest rate in the world as it sets the tone
in the market. This is the overnight interest rate used when banks borrow money from other banks
or from the Federal Reserve. (Miller, 2016) If they do not have enough on hand to lend out, the
Federal Reserve would be a place where banks can borrow money overnight. The rate is a tool
used by the Fed to control the supply of available money therefore controlling inflation and other
interest rates. (Fed Funds Rate: Definition, Impact and How it Works, n.d.) The higher the rate the
more it costs to borrow money which lowers the supply of money. The lower the rate the less it
costs to borrow which increases the supply of money. While it may seem natural that a very

An Unwanted Change Of Weather
An unwanted change in weather can change a life in a matter of hours. A hurricane is a tropical
storm that occurs near oceans and on coasts. Hurricanes in Florida happen often and the citizens
in the affected area will need to be prepared for these storms. This will be how to be ready for
and handle a level one to a level three hurricane. In a level three hurricane extensive damage to
buildings and flooding along the coast occur. Following these steps will not guarantee safety
from a hurricane. The materials needed will be a three day supply of nonperishable food and
bottled water (three gallons of water per person, per day), toiletries such as a toothbrush,

How Did The Steam Engine Help Start The Industrial...
Do you know what machine helped start the Industrial Revolution, do you know the machine that
benefited the economy, do you know the machine that improved transportation and technology.
That machine is the steam engine. The steam engine helped revolutionize the world with its
technology and fast transportation, it was even faster than horses. It also was one of the leading
causes into starting the Industrial Revolution. The steam enginehelped in daily lives and was

One of first steam engines was called The Miner s Friend because it worked in the mines.

Convergence And Comparability Of Financial Reporting
1.Introduction
It has been argued over years that Convergence of financial reporting is possibly one of the most
important and controversial topics in accounting and corporate governance across countries, of
which I could not wholly agree them. The Issue of the convergence of the National Accounting
Standards with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) among policy makers, standard
setters, regulators, professional bodies, and companies worldwide has peaked up and widely been
discussed lately. (Yu Chen Zabihollah R 2012)
Convergence has become increasingly critical across nations in accounting mainly due to the global
economy and need of international capital market. In the light of that, a demand arose for
standardization of financial reporting in order to enable users of accounting reports among different
countries to read, understand appropriately and being in a position of analyzing financial
statements came from different countries. However, the paper argues that the link between
convergence and comparability of financial reporting is to be questioned when it comes to different
countries such as China.
There are both strong opponents and proponents of convergence. The proponents of convergence
point out that the benefits of global financial reporting bring up the greater comparability of
financial information for investors (PricewaterhouseCoopers, 2007) and the strengthening of
investors confidence.
The opponents claimed that the limitations of

The Simon Ehrlich Wager Case Summary

idea is that because of population growth we are running out of resources and we will eventually
exhaust them all and die out. Julian Simon the so call cornucopian doom slayer challenged the
Malthusian believer Paul Ehrlich to a bet. Simon told Ehrlich that he could pick any raw material
and and any date in the future. If Simon was correct the eventually price of these resources would

I definitely agree with Simon when he talks about the creativity and ingenious of humans. The
innovations we have today in not just the world of food production are absolutely mind blowing.
The machines we use for farming and how we change plants at the genetic level to suit us are
some of the many examples. Granted those inventions can somewhat be debated they are still
great examples of human s ability to problem solve. The part I am less hesitant to agree with is
that there is no problem at all. I think eventually we will reach some sort of semi Malthusian
catastrophe. Will it may not be exactly about food I think it s more likely going to be an issue of
land. We only have so much space on this planet and I think it there is anything that could be
used up it would be that. Also I am not blind to the fact the Simon did somewhat less then
problems of species loss. We are definably losing more then one species a year. Granted when it
comes to actual human survival that may not be an issues but when it comes down to the
diversity of life I think that is a problem. Another issues is that while we can technical always
come up for a solution for the growing need for more food, I think the cost of that is health.
Some of the things we are making and doing to feed the world are not going to always allow for a
health existence. Overall, I would say I definitely

Drumming Wolf Spider
The Wolf spider belongs to the Lycosidae family. They are a part of the Arthropod phylum as they
are characterized by having an exoskeleton, coelom, an open circulatory system and body
segments with jointed appendages. Arthropods evolved by substituting the coelom for a protective
exoskeleton. It was not entirely lost, but still remains in some parts of the reproductive and
excretory systems. (Ruppert et al. 2004) Lycosidae are in the Araneae order as they are arthropods
with four pairs of legs with chelicerae that contains venomous glands. (Ruppert et al. 2004)

The Lycosidae uses its chelicerae to hold its prey before using its venomous fangs into paralysing
it. (Nicholas, 2011) Similarly, snakes inject venom quickly into its prey and waits for it to
immobilise before digesting it, this adaptation prevents preys from escaping and increases its
chance of survival.
The Wolf spider and Nursery web spider (Pisauridae) are closely related and both exhibit similar
but different characteristics which highlights the divergences of the species. They both have
eight eyes which puts them in the superfamily Lycosoidea, the Pisauridae has similar sized eyes
whilst the wolf spider has two big eyes at the front and six smaller ones. Their maternal care is also
alike; the wolf spider carries its egg sac from its spinnerets for 4 6 weeks whilst Pisauridae carries

of the most important reasons which made the music of hip hop spread at the Arab streets is a

Contract Length Is A Contract
A contract is a legal document that tend to create an extended relationship between a buyer and
seller of an output, in which they specifically tend to restrict the buyer and seller to exchange at
terms indicated in a legal document. Also, contracts are also another way to purchase inputs.
Moreover, contract length is mainly depends on the output where it may be short, or lengthy and
complicated. Also, contracts clearly need to state the set of tasks that each contracting party
expects the other to perform. Along with specifying the set of tasks, they also have stated some of
the solutions to the problems in the event where if the buyer or the seller are not able to perform
the tasks or able to fulfill its requirement properly. In... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A complete contract has each buyer and seller responsibilities and rights for each and every
likelihood that could possibly happen during the agreement as they are very hard and impractical
hypothesis that can take place during those time. One of these disadvantages of these contracts can
be that satisfies all the needs for both the buyer and seller might be time consuming and costly to
write, and often legal fees, which could be drawn up a contract that requires exact commitments of
both the buyer and the seller. Also, it is very difficult for any contract to cover everything that could
possibly show up in the future. Hence, in multifaceted contracting surroundings, contracts will
essentially be incomplete, since incomplete contract does not require to have every little description
about the requirements and responsibilities of the parties. Most incomplete contract occur because
complete contract requires a lot of time and money to finish it. On the contrary, vertical integration
is a situation where a firm manufacture their own inputs that are required to make their final
product. In addition, a firm is a bigger organization where they have to produce its own output and
the inputs in order to produce the output. In a vertical integration there

Rules 4 Creating Power Point Presentation
10 Rules for Creating Successful Power Point Presentations
I ve blogged many times on how NOT to use Power Point. Most people use it incorrectly, and it
becomes a barrier between speaker and audience. For example, they create word slides, really
speaker notes, with many bullets of text, expecting what? the audience to read along with them? Or,
they go nuts with the animation, swoops, and flying headlines that make audiences dizzy to little
purpose. Or they use cheap looking clip art that creates a tacky image of speaker and organization
in the mind of the audience.
But what about the right way to use Power Point? What does that look like? Is there any right
way? Following are 10 rules for using Power Point successfully.

Summary Of Why Leaves Turn Color In The Fall By Diane...
My response to the story Why Leaves Turn Color in the fall by Diane Ackermans, is that it made
me feel emotional the way the author expressed life in a metaphor. For example, the author uses
an imprint of a leaf in a fossil stone to show evidence of previous life on Earth. The fossil stone
addresses the life cycle. Life persists on although plants, animals, and people perish. A thing that
stood out to me was that the author uses nature s seasons to relate to the life cycle of human
beings. I believe the author s purpose on describing the way that leaves change colors and fall off
trees in autumn is to compare to how the body changes in order to reach death; one day the leaves
are colorful and vibrant, and the next day they wither and die.

The Theme Of Deception In Edgar Allan Poe s The Purloined...
If you are good at something don t do it for free Heath Ledger. In Edgar Allan Poe s story The
Purloined Letter , the detective instead of helping the police he finds the purloined (lost) letter;
Dupin finds the letter from D s, the minister, hotel room. To get the letter, Dupin deceives D and
turns the letter in to the police to get the reward. The Purloined Letterrevolves around the themes of
logic versus imagination and deception, which includes omission, equivocation and falsification.
In the story, Poe demonstrates deception with each of his three main characters: Dupin, the
detective; G, the Parisian police; and D, the minister.
G uses Omission during his conversation with Dupin and Dupin s assistant about the stolen letter: I

Dupin goes to D s hotel room with green spectacles as Dupin explains: I complained of my weak
eyes, and lamented the necessity of the spectacles, under cover of which I cautiously and
thoroughly surveyed the apartment, while seemingly intent only upon the conversation of my
host (Poe #). D, being the host Dupin buys enough time to complete his survey and find the
location of the letter. Later, Dupin intentionally forgets his snuff box which will give him
another opportunity to enter D s room. And the second time Dupin distracts D to the window
there is a man working for Dupin makes gunshot sounds. While D s attention is outside, Dupin
quickly replaces the letter. This form of deception is called Equivocation, where a false
appearance is created to deceit someone. The only way that Dupin succeed was that he didn t
expected D to hide that letter which was irregular tactics compared to G s personal. Dupin rather
than telling G where the letter is he himself gets the letter. Then smartly asked G what the reward
for the letter is since it was associated with royal family. As soon as G said he would give Fifty
thousand francs to whoever finds the letter. At that very moment surprising everyone asks G to
write check on Dupin s name. Hence Dupin capitalized on his work. Within The Purloined Letter

character uses different kind of deception to help their plan

It is unclear to USAID if there was a definite benefit to the most impoverished areas of the
country, but it did have great impacts on the majority of the country in this particular instance.
In Afghanistan in 1967 it was proposed by USAID to contract and construct a better irrigation
system for the Helmand Valley to increase the ability of the local farmers to raise crops that
could be sold at market to increase their annual income. The irrigation system at the time had
been built between 1946 1959 by the Morris Knudsen Afghanistan Corporation which had helped
some, but was not reaching all the farmlands. With poor drainage and irrigation it was increasing
the water tables and increasing the exchangeable sodium, the area was over cultivated leading to
decreased fertility and organic matter of the soil (S. Udall, Sept.1967 pg3). The average farmer
owns 12 13 acres that is plowed with oxen and a steel stick plow, the irrigation is brought into
small basins with small dikes to prevent the loss of water, with this primitive water control the
farmer is limited in his abilities (S Udall, Sept. 1967 pg3). USAID once again stepped in to further
build the irrigation and drainage systems, which in turn would make the valley more fertile for
harvesting and feeding crops. This irrigation system that was completed by USAID had wonderful
impacts on the

Essay about Catherine The Great
Sophie of Anhalf Zerbst was born on May 2, 1729 in the Germany city of Stettin (Szczecin, now
Poland). She was born of a minor German prince, into a society that legally separated and
isolated its female population. Though society was against her she was recognized by her father
for her great ability to learn and remember concepts and ideas. After proving her ideas and
abilities, she received a formal education. In 1744, at the age of 14, she married the Grand Duke
Peter of Holstein who was heir to the Russian throne . Although Sophie was German she strove to
be as Russian as her mother in law. Sophie not only studied the Russian language, but she also took

She threw herself into Russian culture and soon became a great socialite. In addition, she made
connections with the smartest and most influential leaders in Russia. Emperor Peter III and
Catherine II came to power after the death of Empress Elizabeth. Unfortunately, Peter was unable to
handle ruling the Russian Empire. He lacked common sense and alienated the Russian Court.
Peter III further compounded his mistakes by withdrawing from the war with Prussia in 1762.
According to most historians he was pro Prussian and was mentally immature. This, coupled with
the seizure of Church lands and disowning his son Paul, resulted in Catherine s coup on June
28th, 1762 . Peter III was sent to prison where he died at the hands of his captives, Catherine s
lover Gregory Orlov and his family. Catherine took the throne as Empress after the conspiracy. Her
reign saw the high point of Russian nobility.
Catherine ruled autocratically. She was a great political leader, an absolutist and ruled as an
enlightened monarch, referring to the historical period of Enlightenment during the 18th and 19th
centuries. Catherine was greatly influenced by her many friendships with the western European
thinkers of the Enlightenment, including Voltaire and Denis Diderot. She was able to distinguish
herself from other monarchs by the way she governed. She believed her purpose was to develop
and care for her subjects, rather than please the nobility. This was contrary to the beliefs of all

Although some experts believe people have trouble remembering traumatic events, other experts
point out that victims or witnesses of those events would more likely have trouble forgetting the

Separating Mixtures And Its Effect On The Body
Separating a mixture can be either very simple, or greatly complex. For example, a heterogeneous
mixture, such as a bowl of different types of candy, can be easily sorted by the color, size, or shape
of the individual candy. But homogenous mixtures, such as air, steel, or sugar water, takes
sometimes complicated procedures to break the mixtureor solution down into its original form.
Separating mixtures can be done by using the differences in their properties, such as the color, size,
shape, boiling point, or density of a specific element (Brown et al., 2014, p. 13). There are many
types of methods to separating mixtures, which includes sublimation, crystallization, and simple or
fractional distillation. Sublimation is the process that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
465). The process of sublimation is sometimes used by chemists to purify compounds by placing
any solid into a vessel and then heating it ( Sublimation (chemistry), 2008). The heated vessel is
then placed under a vacuum, a place that is empty of all matter, which evaporates the solid into a
vapor and then condenses it as a purified compound. This process is useful when trying to purify a
substance because it leaves the impurities of said substance behind ( Sublimation (chemistry),
2008). Another type of sublimation is called dye sublimation which is used in color printing on
different types of materials like paper, t shirts, hats, mugs, metals, puzzles and other different types
of surfaces. The process consists of heating a solid die material, which then solidifies onto the given
surface. Even with a low printer resolution, dye sublimation allows extreme control of the color
ratios that results in a good quality picture ( Sublimation (chemistry), 2008). Another process that
separates mixtures is crystallization. Crystallization is the construction of solid crystals from a
homogeneous solution. (Haslego, 2010). For any solution to start the crystallization process, it
must first be supersaturated. Supersaturation is a state of any solution that contains more solute that
is needed to create a saturated solution under normal conditions. (Brown et al., 2014, p. 537). For

Examples Of Social Darwinism Shaping Reaganomics
Chloe Carr Professor Blodgett History 271 May 14 2013 Social Darwinism Shaping
Reaganomics Ronald Reagan made many economic decisions that supported his beliefs in Social
Darwinism throughout his presidency. Social Darwinism is considered to be the ideas of
struggle for existence and survival of the fittest, a term coined by Herbert Spencer in order to
justify social policies. Over time the individuals with superior biological characteristics will
dominate populations that this super species possessed. Couples who possessed these special
qualities would then pass them down to their offspring, creating an elite generation in the modern
world. Dominic Sandbrook the author of Mad as Hell, The Crisis of the 1970s and the Rise of...

Reagan implemented policies based on supply side economics and advocated a classical liberal
and laissez faire philosophy, seeking to stimulate the economy with large, across the board tax
cuts. Reagan s outlook on economics was what he and the public called Reaganomics . The
blueprint for Reaganomics, was a sketched out supply side approach to the economic, including
massive cuts in income taxes, capital gains taxes, and corporate taxes, (340). His platform
advocated reducing tax rates to spur economic growth, controlling the money supply to reduce
inflation, deregulation of the economy, and reducing government spending. Reagan s policies
proposed that economic growth would occur when marginal tax rates were low enough to spur
investment, which would then lead to increased economic growth, higher employment, and wages.
Reagan s beliefs on cutting taxes were supported by ideas of William Sumner who believed that the
best equipped to win the struggle for existence was the American businessman, and concluded that
taxes and regulations serve as dangers to his survival. Reagan believed strong nations were
composed of people who were successful at expanding their empires and these strong nations would
survive in the struggle for dominance. Following his less government intervention views, Reagan
cut the budgets of non military programs including Medicaid, food

It also did not sit well in a social climate that was becoming known as the dawn of the woman s

bearing had no affect directly with the case. Inexplicably, Floyd pursued the mootness issue until
Justice Steward again interrupted to ask him what he thought would constitute legal standing for a
woman who wanted to challenge the state s restrictions on abortion. He responded no remedy is
provided. The response provoked a biting retort from Justice Stewart that perhaps the real moment
of choice occurred when a woman decided to live in Texas. The courtroom then erupted with
laughter. Somewhat miffed, Floyd attempted a weak comeback by saying there s no restriction on
moving, you know. He once again had insulted the Court even though he may not have realized it
during the time it occurred. Floyd did not intend for his response to sound flippant, the court did
take it that way however and it made the courtroom begin to believe that Floyd continually belittled
women, which in this case obviously severely hurt him (Romaine 64 66) (Encyclopedia) (Legal
Information Institute). Further questioning forced Floyd to concede that the state also did not Rote

Essay on censorship
Censorship is the act of suppressing publications, movies, television programs, plays, letters, and
so on that are considered to be obscene, blasphemous, or politically unacceptable (MccGwire 4).
Censorship should be enforced because it is needed into today s society. Censorship needs to be
used in media, hate speech, and obscene material.
To begin with, the media has very negative effect on society as a whole. The mass media movies,
television, and recordings need to be regulated, and not only because of appeals to irresponsible
lust (Lowenthal 19). They have immersed us in violence as well, habituated us to the most extreme

It corrupts taste and poisons the imagination (Kimball 20). Violent video games, movies, and music
lyrics influence people to retaliate against those people that hurt them. In the past few years there
have been a great number of school shootings. Many of these shootings were copied off of famous
movie scenes and video games. These obscene aspects of the media need to be banned from
children. Children are still learning the difference between rights and wrong, therefore adults need
to take on this responsibility of censoring what children watch, read, play with, and listen to.
Hate speech should also be banned. Free speech has a class line. It also has a class responsibility.
One person s beliefs cannot cross the line into threats of violence. Free speech does not cover that
(Albano 31). Those institutions most concerned with social fairness have proven to be the ones
most likely to promulgate anti hate speech rules (Albano 30). Part of the reason seems to be
recognition that hate speech can easily silence and demoralize its victims, discouraging them from
participating in the life of the institution (Albano 30). If so, enacting hate speech rules may be
evidence of a commitment to democratic dialogue, rather than the opposite, as some their
opponents maintain (Albano 30). People should not have to put up with harassment by others.
People should not have to constantly live in the state of fear because others are threatening them;

  • 2. The Greek Island Of Crete Located on the Greek island of Crete is the ancient Palace of Knossos. It is found on the outskirts of the modern day city, Heraklion. The city of Knossos, as shown below, is directly focused in the centre of Crete and is slightly off the north coast. Even more so, it is situated south of the Greek mainland. Knossos, in simplistic terms, is an ancient Minoan palace and surrounding city on the island of Crete , where it was sung of by Homer in his Odyssey. The marvelled settlement was established in 1900 BCE and was later destroyed by a combination of factors, such as earthquakes and invading Mycenaean s. However, it was rebuilt to its former glory. The palace covered an area of 22,000 square meters, which was complimented by multistorey buildings with an elaborate layout. Before its discovery, Knossos was considered as a city of myth. Evidently, this immediately changed once this ancient society was unearthed to reveal the mysteries that were for years left unknown. To this day, the reconstructed palace is on display for tourists from around the world to gain an insight into the ancient Minoan society. The excavations at Knossos were executed into three main dating periods: 1900 1931, 1957 1960, 1969 1970. The initial investigation of this site that began in 1900, however, comprised of the most important discoveries. The excavations at Knossos were extensive, in which multiple archaeologists were required to unearth this grand piece of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Ulfric War Fair Shackle, shackle, shackle! As hundreds of dark skinned slaves tied from feet to feet with metal chains made these sounds. Their backs ache from digging, and planting as they cry from pain. As the newest shipment of slaves moved along you can see through their teary eyes that they had fear. Yet one slave enraged by the fact that he must be a slave decided that it wasn t fair. Ulfric a young, skeletal looking boy at the age of 16 had just arrived in the slave town with tens of other slaves as they were the newest shipment of workers. Taken from their homelands and their families and forced to work on the plantations. Ulfric was assigned the role of plantation farmer, but has no experience in this field of work, and was punished if not done ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And so on weeks by weeks the soldiers in the fortress started to die one by one. Than sooner than later there were more guns than soldiers as nearly half of them died. During mid December was when the soldiers inside started to lose firewood and so on more of them died due to the coldness. While the soldiers suffered a cold death the slaves celebrated their victory with a toast of wine and fine beer they had found in the cellars. Hip Hip Hooray As multiple slaves yelled at once. Many dankie to you Ulfric Someone says in Afrikaan language. But the war was not over yet. On the last day of December was the day that Ulfric gave the order. Burn the fortress walls down, lit your arrows with fire and shoot at the main gate. He says in a very aggressive voice. As the dry crumbled wood walls burned to the ground the slaves charged in with a bang as their muskets fire all at once. They charged and battered every door, every room until they found the mayor of the town. I surrender, just don t shoot. As the plumped up mayor quickly says in a stuttering voice as he scrambles under his desk. Few years have passed since the rebellion which freed more than 500 slaves from the town once known for being a harsh slave community, but now it is controlled by Ulfric as he rules over the now beautiful, mingled, trading ... • 10. Persuasive Essay On Honey Bees For every one out of three bites we take, it is due to the work of the honey bees. Many of the foods such as fruits require pollination from a pollinator to be produced. As well as fruits, there are also vegetables, nuts, seeds, fiber, and hay (Hoyt, 10). All essential to the world and all must be pollinated. The little insects play a huge role in maintaining natural plant communities and ensuring production of seeds in most flowering plants. In the United Kingdom, honey bees create an additional crop value of 165 million every year, with no additional cost to farmers (Gross, 2). With the hundreds of species of bees, they are the world s leading pollinators. It is only now that we see that we have taken pollination for granted. Praising pollination as one of nature s free services. It is not one of the factors that are considered when looking at the agricultural possibilities of a given farm area, such as water, fertilizers, or pesticides (Hoyt, 13). All around the world, there have been years recorded where the honey bees just suddenly disappear. It is due to all of the agricultural and climate change. Honey bees should not travel too far from their hive, but recently it is not possible for them to remain close and collect nectar as well because of the decline of plants they can pollinate (Hoyt, 13). Their voyaging distances have increased and not every honey bee makes it back to the hive due to the long distances they now have to travel (Hoyt, 15). To decrease the distance they travel, humans must plant more gardens for the honey bees to pollinate instead of allowing them to venture out blindly in search of the nectar they need (Hoyt, 16). If Colony Collapse Disorder were to prevail over the honey bees, it would spell disaster for the honey business as well as our entire food population. One in ten hives suffers from Colony Collapse Disorder (Calabro, 8). The good news is that Colony Collapse Disorder has been in decline over recent years. Some researchers even say that the endangerment of honey bees is a false case. There are statistics that show that many of the foods that honey bees are responsible for pollinating such as apples and almonds have actually increased over the years (Calabro, 8). If the food ... • 11. The Homelessness Of A Home Having a Home People cannot be fulfilled without a home, because a home is a place people can go back to, a place that gives them stability, where people can have their own privacy, gives them comfort, and can symbolize something different. Without a home, people cannot be fulfilled, there are only places in which they can rest, but never sleep; there is no place that they can call their own. People with a home always have a place to go back to, they know that no matter what happens that place will always be there. With out a home a person does not have this; they would have to constantly think of the next area to go to for shelter. They would have to always plan ahead of time. For some people it is not the home that comforts them, but it is the people that live in it, their family is what comforts them rather than the home. For other people the home is a place that holds nothing more than bad memories that they want nothing more than to forget. For some people a home is not required for fulfillment, their home is just a place for them to sleep then go out and live their life, home is just a rest stop for them. There are many people who travel the world for weeks at a time, they sleep in run down hotels or not even in proper shelter, they do not go back to a home, but they still achieve fulfillment. Going around the world helping people who are less fortunate is what fulfills them. People who tend not to have a home have other ways of fulfillment. Then there are people who are minimalist who attempt to live on as little as possible, for them their home is bare and maybe small. For minimalist the home is not there to comfort them or give them stability, the home is just a place that they bought because they had to if they did not want to rely on anyone (Quindlen) else for ... • 12. The s Call For Individual s Responsibility Of Privacy Essay However, Abram s call for individual s responsibility of privacy by limiting access to certain information is impossible due to the very nature of social media. In Alice E Marwick and danah boyd s 2014 article, Networked Privacy: How Teenagers Negotiate Context in Social Media, they argue that because social media is, as previously discussed by Werbin and Fuchs, a networked environment that thrives on sharing user generated data (Marwick boyd 1054). Furthermore, Marwick and boyd explain this argument through a paraphrased statement from new media studies scholar Jenny Sunden (2003), which states, to exist online, people must type themselves into being (Marwick boyd 1054). In other words, each like , post, and comment all contribute to our existence online; to use social media we must put ourselves and our information online. Moreover, rather than focusing on Abram s individual responsibility model which Marwick boyd call access control list , Marwick boyd suggest that their networked privacy model where privacy becomes the responsibility of each member of the social media network fits our social media platforms better (1064 1065). In other words, through their study of how American teenagers manage privacy online, Marwick boyd conclude that it is incredibly difficult to maintain privacy on social media, because one shared photo to a few friends on Facebook means the responsibility to keep this information private transfers to these friends (1064). The History of Deaf Education Essay Long before Thomas Gallaudet founded the first permanent school for the deaf in America, controversy as to the educability and best method of communicating with the deaf have existed. In fact, in the Biblical Times section of the book The Deaf Community in America Socrates, in conversation with Hermogenes is quoted saying, Suppose that we have no voice or tongue, and wanted to indicate objects to one another, should we not, like the deaf and dumb, make signs with the hands, head and the rest of the body? Frank Capra s Why We Fight series, produced from 1942 to 1945, emphasises the use of film by government for the purpose of propaganda. The representations of war within similar texts promote an incomplete understanding of popular conceptions of life during the period. Consequently, the issues with this film as a historical source stress the overt influence of the director, and by extension, the government. This underlying intent behind the film is seen through the distinct purpose of propagandastrategy. The purpose based production highlights the reciprocal relationship concerning popular conceptions of the war between society and film. Accordingly, study of these texts demonstrates how the ability of film to foster social cohesion in war complements its function as a shared cultural event. Films made during this period display some aspects of popular conceptions of life at war, despite their limitations as a historical source. For example, the simultaneous position of Why We Fight as propaganda and documentary gives insight into groups that accept or endorse its information. • 35. The Impact Of Federal Funds On The Workforce Will Affect... Intro As my parents discuss the need to continue working several more years until retirement, I have thought about how their continuation in the workforce will affect me after graduation. Are there going to be less job opportunities available for the newly graduated because people like my parents intend to work until they are 70? Also why do they believe they need to work until they are 70? Is the low Federal Funds Rate, which sets the tone for other interest rates, impacting their retirement savings? It is in hope of seeking answers to the questions I raised above that I selected to research the impact the federal funds rate has on the economy and weather the continued low rate needs to be increased. Research The Federal Funds Rate is arguably the most important interest rate in the world as it sets the tone in the market. This is the overnight interest rate used when banks borrow money from other banks or from the Federal Reserve. (Miller, 2016) If they do not have enough on hand to lend out, the Federal Reserve would be a place where banks can borrow money overnight. The rate is a tool used by the Fed to control the supply of available money therefore controlling inflation and other interest rates. (Fed Funds Rate: Definition, Impact and How it Works, n.d.) The higher the rate the more it costs to borrow money which lowers the supply of money. The lower the rate the less it costs to borrow which increases the supply of money. Convergence And Comparability Of Financial Reporting 1.Introduction It has been argued over years that Convergence of financial reporting is possibly one of the most important and controversial topics in accounting and corporate governance across countries, of which I could not wholly agree them. The Issue of the convergence of the National Accounting Standards with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) among policy makers, standard setters, regulators, professional bodies, and companies worldwide has peaked up and widely been discussed lately. (Yu Chen Zabihollah R 2012) Convergence has become increasingly critical across nations in accounting mainly due to the global economy and need of international capital market. In the light of that, a demand arose for standardization of financial reporting in order to enable users of accounting reports among different countries to read, understand appropriately and being in a position of analyzing financial statements came from different countries. However, the paper argues that the link between convergence and comparability of financial reporting is to be questioned when it comes to different countries such as China. There are both strong opponents and proponents of convergence. My response to the story Why Leaves Turn Color in the fall by Diane Ackermans, is that it made me feel emotional the way the author expressed life in a metaphor. For example, the author uses an imprint of a leaf in a fossil stone to show evidence of previous life on Earth. The fossil stone addresses the life cycle. Life persists on although plants, animals, and people perish. A thing that stood out to me was that the author uses nature s seasons to relate to the life cycle of human beings. But homogenous mixtures, such as air, steel, or sugar water, takes sometimes complicated procedures to break the mixtureor solution down into its original form. Separating mixtures can be done by using the differences in their properties, such as the color, size, shape, boiling point, or density of a specific element (Brown et al., 2014, p. 13). The process of sublimation is sometimes used by chemists to purify compounds by placing any solid into a vessel and then heating it ( Sublimation (chemistry), 2008). The heated vessel is then placed under a vacuum, a place that is empty of all matter, which evaporates the solid into a vapor and then condenses it as a purified compound. This process is useful when trying to purify a substance because it leaves the impurities of said substance behind ( Sublimation (chemistry), 2008). Another type of sublimation is called dye sublimation which is used in color printing on different types of materials like paper, t shirts, hats, mugs, metals, puzzles and other different types of surfaces. The process consists of heating a solid die material, which then solidifies onto the given surface. Even with a low printer resolution, dye sublimation allows extreme control of the color ratios that results in a good quality picture ( Sublimation (chemistry), 2008). Another process that separates mixtures is crystallization. Crystallization is the construction of solid crystals from a homogeneous solution. (Haslego, 2010). For any solution to start the crystallization process, it must first be supersaturated. He responded no remedy is provided. The response provoked a biting retort from Justice Stewart that perhaps the real moment of choice occurred when a woman decided to live in Texas. The courtroom then erupted with laughter. Somewhat miffed, Floyd attempted a weak comeback by saying there s no restriction on moving, you know. He once again had insulted the Court even though he may not have realized it during the time it occurred. Floyd did not intend for his response to sound flippant, the court did take it that way however and it made the courtroom begin to believe that Floyd continually belittled women, which in this case obviously severely hurt him (Romaine 64 66) (Encyclopedia) (Legal Information Institute). Further questioning forced Floyd to concede that the state also did not Rote 11 Consistently ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 54. Essay on censorship Censorship is the act of suppressing publications, movies, television programs, plays, letters, and so on that are considered to be obscene, blasphemous, or politically unacceptable (MccGwire 4). It corrupts taste and poisons the imagination (Kimball 20). Violent video games, movies, and music lyrics influence people to retaliate against those people that hurt them. In the past few years there have been a great number of school shootings. Many of these shootings were copied off of famous movie scenes and video games. These obscene aspects of the media need to be banned from children. Children are still learning the difference between rights and wrong, therefore adults need to take on this responsibility of censoring what children watch, read, play with, and listen to. Hate speech should also be banned. Free speech has a class line. It also has a class responsibility. One person s beliefs cannot cross the line into threats of violence. Free speech does not cover that (Albano 31). Those institutions most concerned with social fairness have proven to be the ones most likely to promulgate anti hate speech rules (Albano 30). Part of the reason seems to be recognition that hate speech can easily silence and demoralize its victims, discouraging them from participating in the life of the institution (Albano 30). If so, enacting hate speech rules may be evidence of a commitment to democratic dialogue, rather than the opposite, as some their opponents maintain (Albano 30). People should not have to put up with harassment by others. People should not have to constantly live in the state of fear because others are threatening them; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
