Twentieth Century Isolationism
During the Twentieth Century, there were several events that caused a breakdown in people s
relationships. The horrors of World War One caused T.S. Eliot to study isolationism between people
and culture. He moved to London from The United States and dissolved all ties with America. In
addition, Langston Hughes wrote about separation of races and the problems with prejudice at the
time, not only against blacks but against immigrants, as well. E.E. Cummings wrote about
isolationism in a unique way, not even giving the characters real names. Instead, he used indefinite
pronouns. The racismand isolationism harshly affected several men and women during the
Twentieth Century, which led several artists to incorporate political views into their artwork.... Show

Hughes works reflect the thoughts and views of society by showing how racism and
isolationism affected society. In many of Hughes works, he gives advice for those who are
suffering from racism and isolationism, which is to not let anything get in the way of dreams.
Hughes expressed this idea in his poem titled Mother to Son . In the poem, Hughes states, . . .
don t you turn back. Don t you set down on the steps (Baym, 2013, p. 1039). Many people that
the racism and isolationism affected would turn to giving up on almost everything in their lives,
but Hughes gives advice to those who wanted to give up by saying to never give up. Hughes
wanted the society to know that they shouldn t let the racism affect their lives, but to ignore the
racism and to keep moving forward. In his novel, Not Without Laughter, Hughes says, Ever
thing there is but lovin leaves a rust on yo soul. An to love sho nough, you got to have a spot in

Q1: Explain the difference between an open and a closed question. Give examples of each. The
difference between an open question and a closed question is that a closed question is where you

Give three examples of hypotheses people held regarding the creation of the universe. For
extension, explain how people have been able to give evidence for or disprove these hypotheses.
A hypothesis is an estimated guess of what you think will happen. One hypothesis people held
regarding the creation of the universe is the Big Bang. The Big Bang theory is thought to have
happened when two molecules bonded together with so much force that it exploded and
expanded creating the universe. The theory was first created by Georges LemaГ®tre in 1931 in
a paper he wrote, at the time when he s theory was released other astronomers were unsure about
the expansion of the universe. Cosmic microwave background is a heat radiation that is
believed to remain after the big bang. The glow from the heat is said to be nearly the same in all
different directions. It was discovered by American radio astronomers Robert Wilson and Arno
Penzias in 1964. Another hypothesis regarding the creation of the universe is that God or a
higher power created the world. Christians believe that God created the world in 7 days. On day
1 he created the heavens and Earth, day 2 he creates the sky, day 3 he creates land and plants,
day 4 sun, moon and stars, day 5 birds and fish, day 6 he created animals and people and on day 7
he rests. Evidence to disprove this theory is when Stephen Hawking made a statement saying that

Abbreviations And Initialisms In The NASA
At the core of each topic presented in the lectures was a persistent effort to both, interpret
conventions as well as recognize and understand their exceptions. Heidi Harley s essay Why is it
the CIA but not *the NASA? Acronyms, Initialisms, and Definite Descriptions explores the
conventions of how acronyms and initialisms are treated within the English language. In addition,
Harley identifies patterns of exceptions as well as the reasoning behind them. Specifically,
embedded within the title is a quest to find the reasoning behind when and why acronyms and
initialisms are treated as proper nouns versus definite descriptions. Harley s methodology primarily
uses a corpus compromised of about 200 initialisms and acronyms. Additionally, Harley used
elicitation for more gray area cases of abbreviation, to verify the typical performance. Initially, I
reasoned that CIA is performed with the determiner the , in a definite description structure, since it
is initialized, while in contrast, NASA is an acronym. Furthermore, I noted that this difference may
stem from the fact that an acronym forms an abbreviation that is pronounced... Show more content

Specifically, if the abbreviation is an initialism it would tend to retain the categorical status of
their source phrase (Harley 370), i.e. the definite description, the CIA, and the Central Intelligence
Agency. However, if the abbreviation is an acronym, like NASA, it tends to shift from a noun
phrase with a definite description to a proper noun. Harley notes that this tendency is so prevalent
that it essentially has the force of a rule. (Harley 370) Additionally, Harley noted that a main class
of exceptions for initialisms include bare location nominals (377), which is beyond this course but

The Pros And Cons Of Sun Based Pokemon
Sun based Pokemon are better than Moon based Pokemon in design, abilities, and execution. By
Jeramie Fisher The sun and moon have always been a constant presence and source of inspiration
for human beings, ranging from deities to simply providing warmth and a beautiful sight to see.
Humans have always had opinions, some stronger than others, and today that topic will be
discussed in reference to a popular video game series, Pokemon. Now in order to keep opinions
from being too broad and contradictory The subject will be focusing on the Sunbased Pokemon
against its counterpart; because face it every Pokemon is weak to something and for the most part
Pokemon matches are decided by what someone brings to the table. Execution, which is by far the
most factual way to prove that Sun Pokemon are indeed superior to Moon Pokemon, is placing
them directly against each other in an actual fight without the aid of others and seeing who has the
upper hand when facing off solo. The first... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Turning Point Of Juno
Analysis of the movie Juno
Plot
The movie follows a sixteen year old teenager named Juno. She often hangs out with her best
friend Leah and a guy named Paulie Bleeker, however after an accident with Bleeker, Juno finds
herself pregnant. At this time Juno knew she had to do something so she went to the nearest
Women s Clinic, but soon she changes her mind and gives it up for adoption instead. With the help
from Leah they soon find an ad in a newspaper, Juno decides to contact them and later she meets up
with them. They seem like the perfect parents but after a dramatic turn she finds out that they may
not be what she once thought. The big turning point for me would be when Mark reveals that he is
going to break up with Vanessa. After this Vanessa gets her heart shattered and Juno wants to help
them out. This led to Juno having to make many difficult decisions, even the whole plot changed
from one thing to the other. All this makes this certain turning point stand out from the rest and that
is why in my opinion this is the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She is a sixteen year old girl that acts a lot different compared to the other girls in the film. Even
when she gets pregnant she tries to create an attitude that in turn changes how she acts around her
friends and family. Bleeker however really tries to let the mother do all of the work and he even
tries to put this thing aside as evidenced during one of the running segments. These two are the
main characters since I think the film is mainly about the relationship between both of them. How
Juno and Bleeker s relationship is presented towards the audience takes a turn during the ending
sequence in which it is revealed that both of them had developed feelings towards each other. In
the beginning however it s shown that Bleeker may like Juno in this way but it appears as if he

Euthanasia Is A Form Of Doctor Assisted Suicide
Euthanasia is a form of doctor assisted suicide. There are many different types of Euthanasia and all
are currently illegal in the United States with the exception of the state of Oregon. When a patient
is being Euthanized they can be given an injection intravenously which causes their death this is
called Euthanasiaby action. A person could also be assisted to deaththrough euthanasia by omission;
this is when the patient is not provided with the appropriate things such as food or water. Also
patients can be given a medication that renders them into a deep sleep in which they are left to die,
either through the progression of their illness or through starvation. The most important aspect of
doctor assisted suicideis whether it is voluntary, involuntary or non voluntary. The difference
between non voluntary and involuntary is that non voluntary is when the patient does not request
to be euthanized but they are. Involuntary euthanization is when a person specifically asks that
they not be euthanized and they are. Although euthanasia is illegal some forms of it are still
regularly practiced in today s healthcare system. Euthanasia dates back to as early as 1828 when
the first law was written to outlaw anyone from providing a person with a dangerous weapon and
or a harmful chemical that would knowingly be used in the taking of a person s own life. This
would include taking the life of another person with their permission. In 1920 the book Permitting

Nation-State In Medieval Europe
What is a nation state? A nation state is defined as a type of political organization in which a group
of relatively homogenous people live in one area under one government, and its development
actually traces back to the Middle Ages. Medieval Europe was unified by the Roman Catholic
Church, a powerful, but corrupt, institution. This corruption, coupled with the Renaissance spirit,
led to increasing dissatisfaction with the Church and sparked the beginnings of the Protestant
Reformation. These revolutionary ideas created conflicts between rulers, especially the triumph of
the Protestant German princes over Charles V in 1555, which laid the foundations for the first true
nationstates, France, Germany, and Italy, centuries later.

Romanticism In The Tree Of Life By Terrence Malick
When I first heard of the word Romanticism , I automatically assumed it was more of an intricate
way to say romance but romanticism is much more than pursuing someone. Romanticism is a
movement of art and literature that formulated around the late 18th century that is characterized
by strong emotions, individualism and the glorification of all past and nature. The Tree of Life
directed by Terrence Malick is a perfect example of romanticism and conforms well with Hugo s
manifesto on Romanticism. It is about the story of a family in Waco, Texas in 1950 s that loses
one of their sons. Growing up, the eldest son and struggles with his parents conflicting teachings.
Later in life he looks back on his childhood and through his memories, tries to find the meaning
of life. Terrence s film complies with Hugo s preface on romanticism by featuring moments from
the past, incorporation of nature and containing organized religion. In The Tree of Life the
journey begins when we learn that a son has died and it takes us on this course of the oldest
brother s Jack, reminiscence growing up in this family. As we see him mature in age, his innocence
is lost because of his father s questioning family ideals and rules. His father instructs these
household manners against his brothers and Jack when their father doesn t follow them himself. So
eventually we see the son s back talk to him and revolt against their father. Their mother is a
bystander whenever their father is around, but when he

Illegal Immigration Is The Act Of Migrating Across A...
By its nature, illegal immigration is hard to measure and control. But to fully understand the
solutions and properly analyze them; the origin, causes, and effects must be clear. Illegal
immigration is the act of migrating across a national border without a legalized permission from the
target country. Illegal immigrationhas long been a problem in the USA since the latter half of the
20th century. In spite of all the laws that was issued the door was left open especially for the
Mexican immigrants. Throughout time numbers continued to rise and decline, Now the number of

It simply sends out a wrong message, effectively rewarding them for breaking the law. Another
obstacle is that it would cause major problems in terms of jobs and crime. According to Pia
(2012) amnesty can result in reducing overall wages and make it difficult for some workers to
find a job and that after receiving an amnesty they pay less in taxes than what they receive in
services. So, it can be inferred that amnesty is not that efficient solution when it comes to
diminishing the phenomenon of illegal immigration. After mentioning amnesty another debatable
solution was suggested which is deportation. Deportation is the act of legally removing foreign
nationals and return them back to their country of origin. Voices supporting deportation claim that
it is a rapid method to get rid of the masses of illegal immigrants. They also suggested that the
previous deportation attempts had been a success. According to Rubenstein (2006) he mentioned
that looking at the history of deportation would assume that it may work today. However, if it
was inspected from the ethical point of view, it would show a clear violation of human rights. The
American college of physicians (2015) in a press release called to stop deportation and urged
physician to oppose it. Furthermore, the real cost of deportation is too expensive. deportation costs

The Aeneid A Kind Of Propaganda, Cicero s Second Philippic
Relying on hostile evidence to recreate Marcus Antonius life from his youth until the Battle of
Actium entrains several issues. This essay will discuss Virgil s Latin epic The Aeneid , a kind of
propaganda, Cicero s Second Philippic a piece written with personal and political intentions in mind,
and Plutarch s Rome in Crisis regarding Antony. One must treat these sources with caution, not least
because of the inherent bias present in their writing. It is necessary to take into account the context,
type of source and how the author has shaped material for their own personal or political gain.
Limitations.
Virgil shapes material for his own literary and historical purposes, therefore bias is present. The
Aeneid is in part acknowledges Augustus as being key to the Golden Age after Caesar s
assassination (2).The 19 year old grand nephew/adopted son was Caesar s heir and eventually he
defeated Cleo and Antony at Actium in 31 bc (3). In this Euphoria Virgil took to writing patriotic
poems such as The Aeneid (4). After a century of civil war, Augustus victory promises a return of
order, prosperity and peace to Rome.
Augustus ignored Virgil s instruction to burn The Aeneid after his death in 19 BC. This indicates
that Virgil wrote in favour of his patron, ruler of Rome and is hostile towards Antony due to this
(5). Therefore, Augustus is a bringer of peace , consequently Mark Antonyis associated with the
violence of civil war.

Essay on The UFO Incident of Roswell, New Mexico
Ever look up at the sky and just wonder if there is life anywhere else? Have you seen anything in
the sky that is almost unexplainable? What if your thoughts really came true? The thought of the
existence of aliens seems to have been around since the beginning of time. There is one incident in
particular that really hits home when talking about the subject, the UFO incident of Roswell, New
Mexico. Around June 25th, 1947 a pilot, Ken Arnold had reported strange objects in the sky while
flying near Mt. Rainer, Washington. He stated that they flew like saucers being skipped over water.
This was where the term Flying Saucers derived from. The Roswell UFO Incidentall started on the

He also stated that they were thin like foil, would not burn or bend, and had unknown characters
on them in two different colors. While the investigation was developing, Glenn Dennis, a
mortician working at Ballard Funeral Home, received calls from the Roswell Army Air Field
(RAAF) morgue. It was stated that the mortuary officer at the RAAF was trying to get small
sealed coffins and wanted to know how to preserves bodies that were exposed to weather. Dennis
would then drive to the hospital, where he had stated he saw strange pieces of wreckage and one
inside an ambulance. As he entered the hospital to talk to a nurse that he knew, he was
threatened by military police to leave. The nurse that he was meeting with told him of the
bodies and drew them on a notepad. Within a few days the nurse was transferred to England,
where her whereabouts are still unknown. On July 8, the RAAF public information officer
Walter Haut made a press release that stated that a flying disk was recovered at the crash site.
Many people who had tried to go near the crash site were ushered out of the area. The government
had been involved with the situation as soon as they were actually briefed on what had happened
at Roswell. The Roswell Incident was not very publicized as much when it originally happened, but
about 30 years later it was brought back to attention by physicist and ufologist Stanton T.

Normal Vs. Atypical Grief And Bereavement
Normal vs. Atypical Grief and Bereavement
Introduction
Between 5 9% of the population loses a loved one each year
80 90% proceed through the grieving process without the need for formal treatment or intervention
Normal Bereavement
Bereavement is the medical term for the state of having lost a close relationship1
Grief is the emotional response caused by a loss pain, distress, physical and emotional suffering1
Mourning is the psychological/cultural process through which the bereaved person undoes bonds to
the deceased1
Anticipatory grief: grieving that begins before the actual passing of the individual when there is
forewarning of impending death
Many of the same symptoms as grief in general; anxiety, sadness, efforts to strengthen family bonds
as well as attempts to resolve relationship issues and caretaking behaviour
Going through this process may help ease the grieving process after death
Normal Grief Reaction
Numbness, shock, disbelief often initial symptoms
Typical to initially not fully process the reality of death and to be preoccupied with arranging
funeral, greeting friends/relatives, and getting financial affairs in order
Full symptoms shock, intense sadness, yearning, anxiety, emptiness, disorganization can arise
weeks after the death
Visual and auditory hallucinations are examples of searching behaviours and are normal

Depending on the confidence of the contractor on its own estimates and its propensity on risk, a
contractor can slightly raise the unit prices on the underestimated tasks while lowering the unit
prices on other tasks. If the contractor is correct in its assessment, it can increase its profit
substantially since the payment is made on the actual quantities of tasks; and if the reverse is true,
it can lose on this basis.
Negotiated contracts
An owner can enter into contract with a constructor by negotiating the price and method of
reimbursement. This type can during the contract enter into fixed price or unit price contract. * Cost
Plus Fixed Percentage Contract
For certain types of construction involving new technology or extremely pressing needs, the
owner is sometimes forced to assume all risks of cost overruns. The contractor will receive the
actual direct job cost plus a fixed percentage, and have little incentive to reduce job cost.
Furthermore, if there are pressing needs to complete the project, overtime payments to workers are
common and will further increase the job cost. * Cost Plus Fixed Fee/ Variable Percentage Contract
Under this type of contract, the contractor will receive the actual direct job cost plus a fixed fee,
and will have some incentive to complete the job quickly since its fee is fixed regardless

The Importance Of An Age
When looking back at history, there is one constant used over and over regardless of the
situation; this constant is age. History proves a person cannot vote until they are 18 years of
age, could not drink until they were 18, which has risen to 21. A person must be 18 years of age
to buy cigarettes, and all males under federal law must sign up for the draft and potentially could
give up their life defending this great nation. By virtue of turning 18 years old, a person inherits
so many responsibilities which apply across most of the country, many of these responsibilities

Moreover, to ensure the United States sends a clear message to other nations, Article 27 of the
North American Agreement on Labor Cooperation (NAALC) includes child labor laws to
ensure the safety of other children (SIROEN, 2013). Despite the fact the United States creates
laws to protect children both home and our trade partners in various nations, enforcing such
standards is extremely hard. In order to enforce these standards, it would mean constant
surveillance of our trade partners to guarantee compliance. Furthermore, by limiting the type of
job a child can perform solely based on age is having negative effects on manufacturers here in
the United States, and is part of the issue with adults working jobs paying minimum wage.
Adjusting the current age requirements before a child is able to gain employment experience
will cause havoc and lead to adverse effects. Children today, are not being held accountable and
many feel society owes them a way of life. While there are some jobs that a person under the age of
21 should not perform, there are many jobs currently restricted by the Fair Standards Labor Act,
that if proper safety features were in place and train a 16 year old to perform. Moreover, a 16 year

The Interest Rate And Interest Rates
Since people always prefer money right now to the present prospect of getting the same amount of
money some time in the future, the present good always commands a premium in the market over
the future. This premium is the interest rate, and its height will vary according to the degree to
which people prefer the present to the future, i.e., the degree of their time preferences. (Ebling,
1996, p.82)
In determining the originary interest rate, Mises thinks that the rate of originary interest directs the
investment activities of the entrepreneurs. It determines the length of waiting time and of the
period of production in every branch of industry. I do not completely agree in this view. Though it
is true that the interest rate plays an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is therefore impossible to formulate any praxeological theorem concerning the relation of the
amount of capital available in the whole nation or to individual people on the one hand and the
amount of saving or capital consumption and the height of the originary rate of interest on the other
hand. The allocation of scarce resources to want satisfaction in various periods of the future is
determined by value judgments and indirectly by all those factors which constitute the individuality
of the acting man. (Mises, 1949, p. 24)
The interest rate has three related jobs. First, the interest rate equalizes savings and borrowing.
Secondly, the interest rate equalizes net savings and investment. Thirdly, the interest rate allocates
spending for consumption relative to investment. (Foldvary, 2015, web.)
INTEREST, CREDIT EXPANSION, AND THE TRADE CYCLE
In standard economics, the rate of interest is determined by the market for loanable funds, funds
available for borrowing. The supply of loanable funds comes from savings and from money
creation. Savings is defined as income minus spending for consumption. Time preference is a
general tendency rather than a universal absolute; hence, some people with a strong concern for
their future would save funds even at an interest rate of zero. With a higher rate of interest, more
people are willing to save funds, so at some quantity of saved funds, the supply curve of savings
rises with higher rates of real

Analyzing The Consumers Generating Inter Harmonic Frequencies
Alexander B. Nassif and Jing Yong [7] have proposed a method to identify the consumers
generating inter harmonic frequencies. The inter harmonics can be measured by means of
Impedance based approach applied at the metering point. The main idea is that, the inter harmonic

According to the most recent information available from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons
(ASPS), nearly 300,000 breast augmentations were performed in 2015, making breast augmentation
procedures once again the top plastic surgery procedure performed in the Unites States. As such,
many inexperienced and substandard plastic surgeons perform breastaugmentation procedures
frequently, and without much thought: Unfortunately, a poorly executed breast augmentation

Value Of American Culture Essay
Kluckhohn and Strodtbeck advocate that cultures mature into different states depending on their
value orientations. These orientations involve human s relationships with nature, time, motive,
human behavior, and other humans. Most cultures develop by putting their value into some aspects
of these orientations over others. An example, Americans put valueinto nature and their relation to
God. When only comparing the world s industrialized nations, America is known for having a
higher percentage of citizens that believe in God. Thus, this illustrates how America has been
shaped by this orientation. In my experience, I have seen a few of these orientations at work
affecting myself and the football team. When I look back, I can understand the orientations better.
Our team was always worried about time and how to use it properly. The individuals that made up
the team had to set aside some of their personal principles to make the team better as a whole, as
well as, push themselves to act and become improved. The achievement of doing so would give the
entire team determination to continue and follow suit. While training, we would visit the past and
future to study from our past mistakes and future problems. The team would gather to discuss plays

Book Review Of The Rhetorical Analysis Of Myth sGene
1. I was beginning to see that Phineas could get away with anything. I couldn t help envying him
that a little, which was perfectly normal. There was no harm in envying even your best friend a
little. 25 Gene s inner dialogue is crucial since it gives the audience a chance to reveal his true
colors. Throughout the book, he seems to make logical excuses for his delusional actions.
Technically, there isn t harm in envying your best friend, but the way that Gene is carrying this
conversation with himself makes me believe that his logic is unstable. That in this case, there is
going to be harm in envying your best friend. This quote foreshadows that something bad will
happen to their friendship. 2. Everyone has a moment in history which belongs particularly to
him. It is the moment when his emotions achieve their most powerful sway over him, and
afterward when you say to this person the world today or life or reality he will assume that you
mean this moment, even if it is fifty years past. The world, through his unleashed emotions,
imprinted itself upon him, and he carries the stamp of that passing moment forever. 40 I found this
quote to be a bit strange. Gene later goes on to claim that his moment was the war, but I believe it
to be his personal resentment towards Phineas. 3. The thought was, You and Phineas are even
already. You are even in enmity. 53 Gene, without fail, has been jealous of Phineas, but in this
quote, he convinces himself that

Economic disparity is the economic difference between people or countries. The reason why
Walkabout relates to economic disparity is because it involves people from two different
environments, lifestyles, culture, religion, economic classes, and education system, in comparison

why the setting of this book leads to the understanding of the gap between poor and the riches, The
setting in Walkabout took place in 1971 in the middle of The Sturt Desert. The unnamed Aboriginal

South Carolina is a developed country, meaning advanced in infrastructure, industrialization,

Nike Promise And Peril Of Globalization Summary
The Promise and Peril of Globalization: The case of Nike. Nike was started in 1964 as a
sportswear company dealing with shoes but later diversified to start the production of other sports
wares such as clothes and balls and other sporting equipment. Nike has since become a household
name and is present in all continents. Growth. Nike started by importing sporting shoes from
cheaper producing countries, and selling them in the USA and thus providing the market with
cheaper, quality products in comparison to the expensive home product of other companies. With
this strategy, Nike was able to capture a good market share. This growth made the company start
designing their products, and contracting manufacturers from countries with cheaper labour to
produce for them while the company maintained a quality check from the producing factory. This
expansion began with contracting companies in Japan where they were importing from, but when
production started to become expensive, Nike started to look for other options and contracted
companies from Korea, China, Taiwan, and Thailand to start producing for them. It s in this

Gout And Diet Prevention Study Essay
Recently, a gout and diet prevention study was published in by Dr. Hyon K. Choi and Gary
Curhan in Arthritis Care Research s June 2007 issue which examined the fact that, contrary to
popular belief, coffee may not be as bad for gout sufferers as previously thought. Although gout
patients have been told to stay away from coffee, there may be an ingredient in the beverage that
can actually help to lower the uric acid levels in the body.
Though it is not yet known what part of coffee is responsible for lowering the uric acid levels in
the body, it is known that it is not just the caffeinecontent, as the same results were not found from
drinking caffeinated tea. Whatever the cause, when participants drank one to two cups of coffee

Similar, though not equal, results were witnessed. This is why it is now thought that components
of coffee other than soley caffeine are responsible for lowering the uric acid levels in the body.
Considering that until this study, gout sufferers had been discouraged from drinking coffee,
many gout sufferers may now be wondering what other gout and diet prevention beliefs may
soon turn out to be disproved. For example, though tea has not been found to reduce uric acid
levels in the body as has now been demonstrated with coffee, tea is often thought to be
unacceptable as a part of a gout and diet prevention strategy. Instead, tea can indeed be a part of a
gout diet as long as it is consumed in moderation and as long as its dehydrating effect is
compensated for by taking in additional water.
It was also believed at one time that eating rich foods was the root cause of gout. Indeed, some
rich foods are high in proteins and purines and therefore may contribute to gout flare ups, however
low fat dairy products have now been shown to have a preventative effect. Also Gout is believed to
be caused by many factors, including being

Use Of Veil Of Ignorance In Gattaca
While genetically engineering people is something that, on the surface, seems like it would be an
ok idea. Improving the human race s genetic quality and eliminating certain genetic diseases and
health problems all seems like it would only have positive results. However, using the veil of
ignorance, it becomes clear that genetically engineering people is not moral because it does not

Methyl Alcohol Should Be Illegal
Methyl Alcohol is a toxic, colorless, flammable liquid alcohol. CH3OH is the chemical formula for
it. Originally from the distillation of wood but now oxidizing methane. In 1923 German chemists
had figured out how to make a synthetic methyl alcohol called methanol. They put carbon, oxygen,
and hydrogen into an industrial pressure cooker and superheated it to more than 400 degrees
Fahrenheit. Methyl Alcoholisn t a poisonlike cyanide. It didn t make you violently sick then kill
you. A lethal undiluted dose is little as two teaspoons for a child, and a quarter cup for a man. A

Coral Reefs Essay

For some fish, coralreefs are the only viable food source or shelter they have. Coral reefs are very
important.
Coral reefs are made by individual coral that join together to form a coral colony. Each coral is .06

Reefs can live decades to centuries. This is only when there is little to no damage done to the
reefs. There are different kinds of things that can damage the reefs. One of these things is when
the weather changes, from cold to hot or hot to cold, it changes the sea level and temperature of it.
When sea level and temperature changes it damages the coral reefs. Another thing that can harm
the coral reefs are seaweed. Seaweed is a threat to corals because they grow much faster, than the
seaweed starts to take over the coral reef. When there is too much nutrients in the sea, the seaweed

The most significant threat to coral reefs is human interaction. People use coral reefs for a lot of

How Did The Aztecs Impact Mesoamerican Civilization
Another system the Aztecs created were dike, which was a technique to separate the salt water
from Lake Texcoco from mixing with the fresh water. The dike also served as another purpose; it
created a barrier around Tenochtitlan (Outer walls in figure 2) to keep intruders out and also had
gates that could be open to help even the water levels out after flooding. Another hydraulic
engineering accomplishment was the canals that were created while forming Tenochtitlan (figure
2). These canals were used to get in and out of the city. The Aztecs created causeways that allowed
them to get in and out of the city to retrieve food and allowed merchants to enter the city. These
techniques that the Aztecs used in order to manipulate the water, overcome frequent flooding that
can cause disasters, and build their empire is a testament to their intelligence. This was not the only
area of intelligence that the Aztecs had achieved; they were avid astrologers and believed in this
subject religiously. Astrology?: Like the Aztecs predecessors, the practice of astrology was

Examples Of Delayed Gratification
Delayed or Instant Gratification: Differences in choosing delayed gratification between extro verted

Introduction
How are humans capable to control themselves and their urges? This question has psy chologists
wondering for centuries. How do we decide if we want to spend our money on something or rather
save it to spend it later on something else? What makes us wait for a re ward rather than receiving
instant gratification? Several studies have been conducted on these questions, looking for answers
on self control. In my research, I want to see if there is a dif ference between introverted and
extroverted people in choosing delayed gratification. My hypotheses is that the more introversion a
human shows the more likely they choose delayed gratification.

The S P 500 rose 32.32 points and the Nasdaq rose 78.59 points as well. Investors showed

Lorraine Hansberry was born in Chicago on March 19, 1930. Hansberry was an African American.
She was one of four siblings that include two brothers and one sister. In the 1930 s racism and
segregation was prevalent in the time. Her parents were civil rights activist Carl and Nannie

family was one of the wealthy African American families in Chicago. When she was five years
old, her parents got her a fur coat. She wore it to school one day and she got beaten for wearing

Convention, but were greatly ignored after women were granted the right to vote in 1920 by the
nineteenth amendment. Many reasons contributed to the reemergence of women s movements
but the most prevalent is the end of World War II in 1945. During World War II, more than three
million women of all classes of society voluntarily exchanged their aprons and jobs as a house
wives and took up real tools in factories. Women working in industrial jobs during World War II
affected the mind set of both men and women about the full capabilities of women. People could...

The commission worked to end job discrimination through legal means. The National
Organization for Women (NOW), whose goal it was to give women equality of opportunity and
freedom of choice , also fought for women s rights and to get men and women the same job
benefits. The EEOC, NOW and organizations like it assured profound change for women by
allowing them a legal opportunity to file suit against discriminatory organizations. By the end of the
1960 s women significantly changed their position in society and law and overcame sexism in
several ways including breaking into male dominated fields, moderate and radical thinking,
breaking down male power structures and through cultural expressions. Although women
experienced profound cultural change during the 1960 s many things including a male dominated
society, the classic perception of women and opposition to equal work undermined women s
movements. Since the birth of the United States, men dominated almost every part of society. This
did not change much during the 1960 s. Other movements, including the civil rights and anti war
movements, were controlled by men. This represents American s view of women as being inferior
to men. Women were kept behind closed doors during these movements because it was not seen as
lady like to publically protest and fight injustices in society. Men also dominated politics during

Human Security And National Security
Too often, the notion/concept of national security is misinterpreted and made too narrow. It s a
common belief of many that national security only entails the protection of states borders from
outside threats. In recent times, this seems to not be the case, since the dangers that states faces
now threatens the life of the individual, therefore, protection of the citizens, their wellbeing, and the
laws of the land becomes a priority which links it or makes it human security. States like the US are
adjusting their foreign policies to fit this new human security as national security approach. Also,
with the world becoming a small global village, states are using less military force to settle
dispute. They are reducing the amount of violence they use against one another. Everyone seems
to be embracing the notion of peace rather than war and I believe this is so because nations do not
want to go back to the hostility and instability of the Cold Warera. Using the United Statesforeign
policies (past and current) regarding terrorism, I will be analyzing how they fit or do not fit into the
spectrum of human security as national security.
According to Roland Paris, human security does not have one explicit definition. Different nations
and organization define this concept differently; each according to its view, policies, interests, and
goals. Paris compared the concept to standard developmental goals, in the sense that though most (if
not all) nations desire it, only a few knows

Summary Of Rosenberg s Article Rosenberg
In his article Rosenberg analyzes the Court s impact on public policy and their ability to create
social reform. The Supreme Court s actual influence and power it has on America s policies and
laws is often debated. There are many powers that the general public believes the Supreme court
holds, but their precedent views of the Court s power may be exaggerated. The strength of this
paper is that Rosenberg is well organized and he transitions into each paragraph smoothly while
relating it to what the reader has just taken in. He also fully explains each view throughout the
article, giving the reader the chance to create their own opinion before coming to his own thoughts
in the conclusion. I agree with Rosenberg in that the Constrained Court

Bone Skeletal System
Bones are the organs that hold the framework of the human body. Not only do they keep our
bodies erect, they also house and protect organs, provide mineral and triglyceride storage, allow
movement, produce hormones and blood cell formation (hematopoiesis). Cells of bone tissue
contains major cells that build bonefrom matrix secretion (osteoblast) and breaks down bone
(osteoclast). Both cells are a vital factor in bone growth, healing, and remodeling. Other important
cells include osteogenic cells, osteocytes, and bone lining cells. Osteogenic cells mitotically divide
and later form into osteoblasts. Osteocytes are aged bone cells that no longer divide, but do perform
as stress receptors and respond to mechanical weight and impact by communicating with osteoclasts
and osteoblasts to promote bone remolding. Finally, bone lining cells work cohesively with
osteocytes to maintain bone matrix.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The microscopical anatomy of compact bone are composed of osteon, canals/canaliculi, and
interstitial and circumferential lamellae. The osteon is considered the structural unit of the bone,
which is wrapped in bone matrix called lamellae. These cylinder reminiscent structures act as pillar
to bear weight. Canals perforate though the center of osteons and are filled with blood vessels and
nerve fibers. Interstitial and circumferential lamellae help fill gaps between osteons and provide
support to long bones against twisting. Spongy bone has no particular structure and is scattered. Its
function is help cushion bones and stores bone between its trabeculae. These significant features
help bone tissue thrive its role of assisting support, but factors like diet, age, and environment can
cause the decay and brittleness of the bone which later leads to the condition of

Analysis Of The Film Super Size Me
The documentary is a personal view of the fast food industry. The director Morgan Spurlock
wanted to prove that the fast food industry has an impact on the growing epidemic in America
and its called obesity. Morgan Spurlock had to show the effects of eating fast food for a month
and how it would affect any human being. Morgan Spurlock stated I m a willing to participant in
that flawed way of life, eating fast foodas often as I can and exercising as little as possible. The
experiment idea comes from two girls who were suing McDonald s for their obesity; however, the
judge ruled that there is no proof that their obesity and poor health is a result of eating from fast
foodplace such as McDonalds. Spurlock uses several techniques to grab... Show more content on

The film doesn t put all the blame of obesity on fast food companies. People do have free choice,
but the point he makes is that these companies go out of their way to make the food pretty much
addictive through the use of sugar, fat, and caffeine and that they go out of their way to hide
how unhealthy this stuff really is. On the other hand, there are some things in Spurlock s
documentary which were a little outrageous. The blame should not only be placed on fast food. I
do strongly believe that we all have the will power to walk in McDonalds and order a salad or
simply not go in and make McDonalds to make it a much wealthier company. The director used
great methods on how to get the message across and great graphics to keep the audience
entertained. I do believe is Spurlock would have eaten other food that contained over 2500
calories a day, he would have still faced health problems. Finally, he shows us pictures of him
after he went back to his good eating habits which imply how happy he is to be back in shape. I
think he is trying to send out the message that it s not too late for the viewer to change their eating
style and live a healthy

American Loyalist Failure
Introduction The purpose of this paper is to identify the factors that contributed to the failure in the
British Southern Campaign in the American Revolutionary war. This paper will examine British
and American Southern Loyalist defeat in the Battle of Kings Mountain, and discuss assumptions
the British made, including loyalists support, logistics, long rifle, and terrain advantage. It is
important to study past military actions to identify mistakes and apply lessons learned to current
U.S. military operations. Background The Battle of Kings Mountain took place on October 7, 1780
between the borders of Blackburn, South Carolina and Kings Mountain, North Carolina. Major
Patrick Ferguson, a British commander, led a unit of American Loyalist... Show more content on

Campbell and Shelby had successfully surprised Ferguson s men. The Patriots advanced in a
methodical manner and picked off Ferguson s men on the exposed heights. Ferguson s men
returned fire, the Patriots fortunate Loyalists shooting downhill with their Brown Bess muskets
tended to shoot high. (Jones, 2009) Ferguson countered and ordered a bayonet attack down the
mountain. The Patriots then retreated to the base of the mountain, waited until the Loyalists
disbursed, and returned to the top. The Patriots regrouped and resumed their attack, picking off
more and more loyalist. Both sides repeated this maneuver three times during the battle. Some of
Ferguson s Loyalists ran out of ammunitions. Ferguson realized the impending loss, attempted a
breakout with his men, and advanced. In the attempt to escape with his men, Ferguson died on the
mountain. (Hickman, 2015) The Loyalist consequently surrendered. The battle lasted an hour. Out
of 1,200 men, 300 killed, at least 120 wounded, and at least 680 taken as prisoners. The Patriots
out of the 900 men had approximately 65 wounded and 28 killed. (U.S. Army War College,

  • 2. Twentieth Century Isolationism During the Twentieth Century, there were several events that caused a breakdown in people s relationships. The horrors of World War One caused T.S. Eliot to study isolationism between people and culture. He moved to London from The United States and dissolved all ties with America. In addition, Langston Hughes wrote about separation of races and the problems with prejudice at the time, not only against blacks but against immigrants, as well. E.E. In many of Hughes works, he gives advice for those who are suffering from racism and isolationism, which is to not let anything get in the way of dreams. Many people that the racism and isolationism affected would turn to giving up on almost everything in their lives, but Hughes gives advice to those who wanted to give up by saying to never give up. Give three examples of hypotheses people held regarding the creation of the universe. For extension, explain how people have been able to give evidence for or disprove these hypotheses. A hypothesis is an estimated guess of what you think will happen. One hypothesis people held regarding the creation of the universe is the Big Bang. The Big Bang theory is thought to have happened when two molecules bonded together with so much force that it exploded and expanded creating the universe. The theory was first created by Georges LemaГ®tre in 1931 in a paper he wrote, at the time when he s theory was released other astronomers were unsure about the expansion of the universe. Cosmic microwave background is a heat radiation that is believed to remain after the big bang. The glow from the heat is said to be nearly the same in all different directions. It was discovered by American radio astronomers Robert Wilson and Arno Penzias in 1964. Another hypothesis regarding the creation of the universe is that God or a higher power created the world. Abbreviations And Initialisms In The NASA At the core of each topic presented in the lectures was a persistent effort to both, interpret conventions as well as recognize and understand their exceptions. Heidi Harley s essay Why is it the CIA but not *the NASA? Acronyms, Initialisms, and Definite Descriptions explores the conventions of how acronyms and initialisms are treated within the English language. In addition, Harley identifies patterns of exceptions as well as the reasoning behind them. Specifically, embedded within the title is a quest to find the reasoning behind when and why acronyms and initialisms are treated as proper nouns versus definite descriptions. Harley s methodology primarily uses a corpus compromised of about 200 initialisms and acronyms. Additionally, Harley used elicitation for more gray area cases of abbreviation, to verify the typical performance. By Jeramie Fisher The sun and moon have always been a constant presence and source of inspiration for human beings, ranging from deities to simply providing warmth and a beautiful sight to see. Humans have always had opinions, some stronger than others, and today that topic will be discussed in reference to a popular video game series, Pokemon. Now in order to keep opinions from being too broad and contradictory The subject will be focusing on the Sunbased Pokemon against its counterpart; because face it every Pokemon is weak to something and for the most part Pokemon matches are decided by what someone brings to the table. Execution, which is by far the most factual way to prove that Sun Pokemon are indeed superior to Moon Pokemon, is placing them directly against each other in an actual fight without the aid of others and seeing who has the upper hand when facing off solo. A person could also be assisted to deaththrough euthanasia by omission; this is when the patient is not provided with the appropriate things such as food or water. Also patients can be given a medication that renders them into a deep sleep in which they are left to die, either through the progression of their illness or through starvation. Involuntary euthanization is when a person specifically asks that they not be euthanized and they are. Although euthanasia is illegal some forms of it are still regularly practiced in today s healthcare system. This corruption, coupled with the Renaissance spirit, led to increasing dissatisfaction with the Church and sparked the beginnings of the Protestant Reformation. • 11. Romanticism In The Tree Of Life By Terrence Malick When I first heard of the word Romanticism , I automatically assumed it was more of an intricate way to say romance but romanticism is much more than pursuing someone. Romanticism is a movement of art and literature that formulated around the late 18th century that is characterized by strong emotions, individualism and the glorification of all past and nature. The Tree of Life directed by Terrence Malick is a perfect example of romanticism and conforms well with Hugo s manifesto on Romanticism. It is about the story of a family in Waco, Texas in 1950 s that loses one of their sons. Growing up, the eldest son and struggles with his parents conflicting teachings. Later in life he looks back on his childhood and through his memories, tries to find the meaning of life. Terrence s film complies with Hugo s preface on romanticism by featuring moments from the past, incorporation of nature and containing organized religion. In The Tree of Life the journey begins when we learn that a son has died and it takes us on this course of the oldest brother s Jack, reminiscence growing up in this family. As we see him mature in age, his innocence is lost because of his father s questioning family ideals and rules. Thirdly, the interest rate allocates spending for consumption relative to investment. (Foldvary, 2015, web.) The inter harmonics can be measured by means of Impedance based approach applied at the metering point. The main idea is that, the inter harmonic impedance of the system is much smaller than that of an inter harmonic generating load. This method can identify the source of each inter harmonic component without having to rely solely on the active power measurement and requires only an approximate value for the inter harmonic impedance measured at the metering point. Thus, this illustrates how America has been shaped by this orientation. In my experience, I have seen a few of these orientations at work affecting myself and the football team. When I look back, I can understand the orientations better. Our team was always worried about time and how to use it properly. The individuals that made up the team had to set aside some of their personal principles to make the team better as a whole, as well as, push themselves to act and become improved. The achievement of doing so would give the entire team determination to continue and follow suit. While training, we would visit the past and future to study from our past mistakes and future problems. The team would gather to discuss plays and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 24. Book Review Of The Rhetorical Analysis Of Myth sGene 1. I was beginning to see that Phineas could get away with anything. I couldn t help envying him that a little, which was perfectly normal. There was no harm in envying even your best friend a little. 25 Gene s inner dialogue is crucial since it gives the audience a chance to reveal his true colors. Throughout the book, he seems to make logical excuses for his delusional actions. Technically, there isn t harm in envying your best friend, but the way that Gene is carrying this conversation with himself makes me believe that his logic is unstable. That in this case, there is going to be harm in envying your best friend. This quote foreshadows that something bad will happen to their friendship. 2. Everyone has a moment in history which belongs particularly to him. It is the moment when his emotions achieve their most powerful sway over him, and afterward when you say to this person the world today or life or reality he will assume that you mean this moment, even if it is fifty years past. The world, through his unleashed emotions, imprinted itself upon him, and he carries the stamp of that passing moment forever. 40 I found this quote to be a bit strange. Gene later goes on to claim that his moment was the war, but I believe it to be his personal resentment towards Phineas. 3. The thought was, You and Phineas are even already. Although gout patients have been told to stay away from coffee, there may be an ingredient in the beverage that can actually help to lower the uric acid levels in the body. Osteocytes are aged bone cells that no longer divide, but do perform as stress receptors and respond to mechanical weight and impact by communicating with osteoclasts and osteoblasts to promote bone remolding. Finally, bone lining cells work cohesively with osteocytes to maintain bone matrix.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The microscopical anatomy of compact bone are composed of osteon, canals/canaliculi, and interstitial and circumferential lamellae. The osteon is considered the structural unit of the bone, which is wrapped in bone matrix called lamellae. These cylinder reminiscent structures act as pillar to bear weight. Canals perforate though the center of osteons and are filled with blood vessels and nerve fibers. Interstitial and circumferential lamellae help fill gaps between osteons and provide support to long bones against twisting. Spongy bone has no particular structure and is scattered. Its function is help cushion bones and stores bone between its trabeculae. These significant features help bone tissue thrive its role of assisting support, but factors like diet, age, and environment can cause the decay and brittleness of the bone which later leads to the condition of ... • 45. Analysis Of The Film Super Size Me The documentary is a personal view of the fast food industry. The director Morgan Spurlock wanted to prove that the fast food industry has an impact on the growing epidemic in America and its called obesity. Morgan Spurlock had to show the effects of eating fast food for a month and how it would affect any human being. Morgan Spurlock stated I m a willing to participant in that flawed way of life, eating fast foodas often as I can and exercising as little as possible. The experiment idea comes from two girls who were suing McDonald s for their obesity; however, the judge ruled that there is no proof that their obesity and poor health is a result of eating from fast foodplace such as McDonalds. Spurlock uses several techniques to grab... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The film doesn t put all the blame of obesity on fast food companies. People do have free choice, but the point he makes is that these companies go out of their way to make the food pretty much addictive through the use of sugar, fat, and caffeine and that they go out of their way to hide how unhealthy this stuff really is. On the other hand, there are some things in Spurlock s documentary which were a little outrageous. The blame should not only be placed on fast food. I do strongly believe that we all have the will power to walk in McDonalds and order a salad or simply not go in and make McDonalds to make it a much wealthier company. The director used great methods on how to get the message across and great graphics to keep the audience entertained. I do believe is Spurlock would have eaten other food that contained over 2500 calories a day, he would have still faced health problems. Finally, he shows us pictures of him after he went back to his good eating habits which imply how happy he is to be back in shape. I think he is trying to send out the message that it s not too late for the viewer to change their eating style and live a healthy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This paper will examine British and American Southern Loyalist defeat in the Battle of Kings Mountain, and discuss assumptions the British made, including loyalists support, logistics, long rifle, and terrain advantage. It is important to study past military actions to identify mistakes and apply lessons learned to current U.S. military operations. Ferguson s men returned fire, the Patriots fortunate Loyalists shooting downhill with their Brown Bess muskets tended to shoot high. (Jones, 2009) Ferguson countered and ordered a bayonet attack down the mountain. The Patriots then retreated to the base of the mountain, waited until the Loyalists disbursed, and returned to the top. The Patriots regrouped and resumed their attack, picking off more and more loyalist. Both sides repeated this maneuver three times during the battle. Some of Ferguson s Loyalists ran out of ammunitions. Ferguson realized the impending loss, attempted a breakout with his men, and advanced. In the attempt to escape with his men, Ferguson died on the mountain. (Hickman, 2015) The Loyalist consequently surrendered. The battle lasted an hour.
