present the argument that the seriousness of victimisation caused by many corporations is much
greater than that caused by common crimes however the public seem much less interested and

prove that white collar crime is not a different and separate phenomenon to common, every day
crime. Robert Merton s Strain Theory is applied to everyday crime, however his theory was in
fact set up as an economic theory that he believed could explain all types of corporate crimes as
well as traditional crimes. Gottfredson and Hirschi also provided what they understood to be a
General Theory of Crime with Control Theory, which they also believed to be relevant to both

Tangerine Character Analysis
In the book Tangerine by Edward Bloor, the main character Paul is cowering in his brother Erik s
shadow at the beginning. Though toward the end of Tangerine Paul stops cowering in the shadows
and emerges. And at the end Paul stops letting Erik hurt him and his friends. Overall the
development of Paul by Eriks choices has made
Paul grow stronger and more confident.
PHARAGRAPH 1
The first thing the book says that tells you Erik is forcing Paul into submission is on page 263
/264. Paul had a flashback back to Silver Meadows when Erik and his friend currently is Vincent
Castor. Also to further explain Erik and Vincent had done so thing bad and Erik thought that Paul
told on them, when it had been someone else. It states And I remember Erik s fingers prying my
eyelids open while Vincent Castor sprayed white paint into them. (263 264) This shows that Erik
was doing something that was going to harm him and was not going to help him. Paul let them do
it but struggle. In the end Paul lost part of his eyesight. This show he was about to start cowering in
the shadows.
PHARAGRAPH 2
The second thing that happened is Paul s new friend in the new house development in Florida is
