The Female Characters Of The Film, By Pan s Labyrinth
Patriarchy is described as a general structure where men hold the position of power over women. This
could include being the head of the household, upper level in the workplace, or leader in society.
Cinema serves this patriarchal institution by constantly constructing ideological images of women.
Since the beginning, women in film are made to conform to the ideal image that the man has of them
(Smelik, 496). Essentially, Hollywood cinema is structured for the male audience, and therefore
majority of films are classified as patriarchal. A lot has to do with how female characters are portrayed
and if there is a male gaze in the film. Although Pan s Labyrinth is constructed through the classic
narrative mode, the film has a female lead and focuses on women. Del Toro demonstrates the female
characters overcoming obstacles and stigmas. Ofelia and Mercedes are the two strong female
protagonists who are good natured and act to what they think is right, different from the passive or
aggressive protagonists found in traditional fairytales. So, how do these two women subvert and
problematize the patriarchal stereotype? In the paper, I will analyze the mise en scene of the two
different worlds and the inclusion of the male gaze to establish how these women subvert and
problematize the patriarchal stereotype. To start off, there are two worlds depicted within the film; a
hostile fascist government in Spain and an enchanted fantasy world. In the real world, the form is

Essay Comparing Oedipus And Othello
Sandy Rowan Sandy Christina Cannon English 1102 4 March 2018 Other People s Cups Both
Sophocles s Oedipus the King and William Shakespeare s Othello, the Moor of Venice are well known
for their tragic endings. At the end of each play, both of the main characters have suffered great loss to
the point of no recovery. These endings are, unfortunately, a semi accurate depiction of very possible
outcomes to anybody: bad things happen to good people. Although the endings of these two main
characters are irredeemably unhappy, the lives of the rest of those in each play has their own chances.
There is a theme of deterioration within Sophocles s Oedipus the King. Oedipus (the main character,
king of Thebes) starts his downward spiral of deterioration when he starts to link himself to a
prophecy that claimed he would kill his father and sleep with his mother when Jocasta describes how
her former husband died and what he looked like starting in line 805. Because he cannot let the subject
go, Oedipus discovers that his true parents were King Laius and Queen Jocasta in line 1210, Look old
man...that child! Starting with his true understanding of what he has done in line 1250, Oedipus starts
to lose his mind completely until his ultimate sign of deterioration in line 1345 when he gauges out his
eyes after he s discovered Jocasta killed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is shown as a good man in line 65 when he is displaying empathy for the people he rules over.
Although he is also a flawed man, in that he killed a group of people (one of which turning out to be
his father, King Laius), Oedipus was willing to accept any rightful punishment to the actions he
unwittingly committed: Come it s...evil doom (lines 1470 1478). This is important to my theme of:

Market Focused Strategies Market Penetration The company markets existing products to existing
customers. In this strategy, the product remains unchanged and there is no effort to pursue new market
segments. Efforts are instead focused on increasing market share through promotions or brand

segments. These segments can be either untapped sectors of a related market (to their existing

Diversification The company markets new products to new customers. There are 2 types of

Personal Narrative-Duty Gambling
It was in the late November and I was heading over to my friends house around 6 PM to go to a
sleepover at my best friend Anthony s house. My dad said don t sneak out tonight or anything like
that. So I nodded my head yes because he was my dad. When I got out my other friends Drew, Griffin,
Bryan all said hi to me than we continued to go into the house to play some video games and we
always have call of duty tournaments to see who is the best one. Than I won the call of duty
tournament than we went to the movies around 7 than I remember it was a cheesy scary movie that
wasn t that good but we messed around in it like ignorant the ignorant kids we were. So we got home
around 9. Than we just played a couple of games of hide and seek in the pitch black house and all
scared each other so bad. At one point in the game my friend griffin jumped out of the closest with a
clown mask and i just about had a heart attack. By the time we were done in the house and the parents
were dead asleep it was about 2 in the morning. We were all super bored than Anthony had a great
idea and said Let s go ding dong ditching so we all agreed because none of us have ever snuck out

Uniform Crime Statistics
Although crime has been around for ages, we only started collecting crime data around the 1930 s.
Crime statistics show a lot about a country, state, county, etc. Crime can be linked to the environment,
behavior of others, and personal experiences, it all depends on how the person deals with the hand
they are dealt. Crime data is collected from three sources, which are uniform crime reports (UCR),
national incident based reporting system (NIBRS), and national crime victimization survey (NCVS).
Originally crime data began in the summer of 1870, when congress passed the law creating the
department of justice. When the department of justice was created, their duties was to make reports to
give to congress based on the crimes happening. During ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today most all states participate in crime statistics. Years ago, not every state would turn in their crime
reports, which effected the total percentage of crimes in the nation. The Federal Bureau of
Investigation (FBI) and Bureau of Justice Statistics report crime statistics. Police stations from all over
the U.S. send their reports of crimes to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Justice
Statistics. For example, a police station will report to the FBI that they had twenty one reports of
robberies for the current year. The Uniform Crime Report (UCR) is a report that is used for the more
serious crimes, such as forcible rape, murder, arson, etc. The UCR is calculated three different ways.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation are specific about the number of how many incidences were
reported for a certain crime. Also, when the FBI calculates the percentages of the crime reports for a
crime and compares the crime rates and an examination is completed to tell if the crime rate has
increased or decreased for the current year. The Uniform Crime Reports (UCR) also calculates the
number of crimes out of one hundred thousand people. Another report the FBI creates is the National
Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS), this report is an elaborated version of the UCR. It takes all
the serious crimes from the Uniform Crime Reports and breaks them down into certain categories that
creates more vivid reports. These reports are very well detailed and give more information about the
crimes, like how many people were arrested. The National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS)
is collected from police stations around the United States. The NIBRS is a report of basically incident
reports. The Uniform Crime Reports (UCR) and National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS)
reports are the most used reports to view crime statistics in the United

The Importance Of Public Service Advertisements
Public service announcements, or PSA, are some of the most influential forms of advertisements. In a
darker colored advertisement posted by Ekburg.RU called Think of Both Sides , it depicts an inside
view of a family in the car with the father driving and distracted on the phone. There are two
passengers in the car his wife who is distracted by a map and their child. The key component of this
picture is that you can see their small child, who looks very innocent, in their rear view mirror and a
child in front of their car clearly filled with fear. The piece is very focused on the harms on the family
s children and the child close to being hit, rather than the distracted parents. According to The
Association of Psychological Science, getting hit by a vehicle is in the top three causes of deaths for
children ages 5 to 9 (Why Kids Get Hit By Cars). The public service announcement not only displays
the importance of paying attention to what is in front of you, but also being aware of how your actions
can harm others.
The first component, as well as the one that takes up the most space in the advertisement, is the
parents. With both the husband on the phone, looking at his wife and his wife holding a map,
reciprocating a look towards her husband, both are clueless to what is in front of them: a little kid with
fear taking over his face. The reason why the parents are not focused on the road could be for the
reasons that the man is on an important phone call as well as that they also needed directions.
Regardless of the reason, both are blind to the harms they are putting everyone in this situation in. It is
very clear that these adults did not consider their actions before doing them because they probably
never considered that it could have been their child in the situation the little boy is in. The children are
not at fault.
The second, and considerably largest, component in the advertisement is the children: the one about to
be struck by the car as well as the small child in the backseat of the car. It is safe to say that both of
these children are innocent people in the situation as they cannot control that the man and woman are
distracted. The child in front of the car is wearing a backpack and a nicer

Nelson Mandela As A Good Role Model
Many of the world s notorious, big named and noted stars ranging from superstars to motivational

18,1918 in Transkei, South Africa who was well known as he came from a Tribal Leader of the Tembu
Tribe making him a person of nobility and pompous. Mandela is the rarest of leaders: A person whose
influence and moral sway transcends the cause he is most associated with in his case, the appalling
apartheid in South Africa, under which he suffered and was imprisoned for a heart breaking 27 years.

was an example of how Nelson Mandela has changed people including other celebrities to be better
people in life. What so much of the world actively hungers for in its public life, and so very rarely
finds, is there in Nelson Mandela leadership with moral force. Are there any others in our day with
such exceptional characteristics? I guess not. Nelson Mandela didn t just spread awareness to stop
racism and apartheid but also wanted to spread love and kindness among the people of the world as
during the UN they asked everyone to take 67 minutes out of their day to aid others. The reason the
number 67 was chosen is because Mandela has spent 67 years of his life servicing and helping
humanity as a whole, shows how much respect the world gives to Nelson Mandela as not a hero but
also as a role model. This was a beautiful message to every person, especially young people, because
it is meant to get people to think about others, take part in their communities, and making this world a

Safe Driving Essay
Teens need to be taught that driving is a task that is complex and demanding. Parents know how much
experience a young driver has, and they know exactly how inconvenient it is when they have to drive
with their teen everywhere while they have their permit. Teens tend to cause most traffic accidents in
adults eyes. They are not experienced yet, and often fail to pay attention to others on the road. They
often think of a car as being some type of toy, but they do not know how powerful it really is. The
driver education programs must be strengthened in order to make sure that students really have safer
habits, behind the wheel experience, and by having a better understanding of all the laws on the road.
The course gives teens a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows that teens do not take driving seriously and also do not realize what can happen to them if
they continue with bad driving habits. In fact, insurance rates are high enough as it is for teens now. If
they get into a car accident, the insurance rates will sky rocket, their parents may have a hard time
being able to afford the insurance. Traffic crashes are the leading cause of fatalities for teens. As stated
in a magazine, Drivers ages 16 to 19 are four times more than likely than older drivers to crash
(Brophy). This quote shows that teen drivers are involved in more traffic accidents then older drivers.
It has much to do with the young drivers not being safe and making horrible choices while they are
driving or in the car with another person. If teens engage in the driving education course, they will
definitely become more knowledgeable about all the safe ways to drive when their parents do not have
to ride with them anymore. Teen drivers are involved in many car accidents due to unsafe driving
habits. A course on safe driving will give the young driver behind the wheel more experience. The
second reason that teens should attend a driver s education course, is to give the teen driver actual
experience behind the wheel. Parents are mostly

Virginia Woolf Two Cafeterias
Two Cafeterias , by Virginia Woolf, was written showing an underlying message of how different men
and woman are treated in this culture. Using words, descriptions, and tones Woolf expresses to the
reader how insignificant woman in this day are made to feel. Woolf shows throughout the entire piece
that the men of this society are treated to nothing less than invariably memorable luncheon parties
while woman are downgraded to dinner in the dining room. By showing the different standards in
which society holds men and woman during something as simple as a meal, Woolf undeniably
succeeds in showing the low level in which woman stand during this time. The men s meal is one that
leaves Woolf feeling as though we are all going to heaven. She lists off the potatoes being thin as
coins, sprouts foliated as rosebuds , and pudding so good that if it were otherwise related to rice and
tapioca would be nothing less than completely downgrading. The luncheon party was so proper that
them speaking of what was being eaten was unacceptable. The men were greeted with things such as
serving men and cushioned window seats for they are considered to be the most vital in their society.
Their attitude was nothing less then snobbish for they were made to feel so high. Treated inferior to
woman, and they sought to believe it themselves. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Its function is to catalyse the hydrolysis of amylose and amylopectin to a mixture of products,
including maltose and dextrin, which are polysaccharides. Maltose consists of two alpha glucose
remains joined by 1,4 linkage; Dextrin is made up of several alpha glucose units joined by 1,4 and 1,6
linkages. Pullulanase, also known as debranching enzyme, hydrolysis the alpha 1,6 links at the
branching points in the polysaccharide. Commercial sources of these enzymes include bacteria and
fungi. Fungi amylases are used to clarify fruits juices, wines and beer by removing suspended starch.
In bread making for example addition of amylases can yield more sugars from the starch in flour and
barley grains, another commercial which is statue of import ants is the conversion of starch to sweet

and brewing industry. Altering the balance between amyloglucosidase and the fungi alpha amylase can
produce different proportions of glucose and maltose. A higher proportion of glucose is useful for
fermentation whereas higher maltose is more useful in preparation of jam and confectionary. The

Spina Bifida Urinating
Spina bifida is a skeletal system disease and birth defect in which the neural tube fails to close
properly during the first five weeks of pregnancy. Since the neural tube failed to close, the child will
have damage to the nerves, spinal cord, and brain that varies in severity. Although the disease has
declined since 1982, there has not been a significant decline and the disease has relatively stayed at
the same percentile over the last several years. When I was born, I had a hole above my anus, where
the end of my spinal cord is, that was no larger than the tip of a pen, but was still noticeable. After
tests were conducted, it appeared to the doctors that I was almost a spina bifida newborn and that my
neural tube barely closed in time for the developmental process, which is why this disease is so
appealing to me. Reading of the side effects that I almost contacted, this article focuses on a major

4 Elements Of Hip-Hop

It is important to break down each one of the 4 Elements so we can have a better understanding of
what each one is and the specific contributions they made. Graffiti was born in Philadelphia in the
1960s and involved artists spray painting writings or images onto various pieces of property.
Cornbread and Cool Earl , from Philadelphia, are cited as the originators of the graffiti phenomenon.
New York City wasn t a part of the graffiti game until the early 1970s. Some of the early notable NYC

Mobile has become a connecting hub for critical masses of everyday life either shopping or else
searches for information, and management of the latest happenings and news, on both a personal and
global level. Unlike any other device before it, the mobile phone travels everywhere with its owner
from bedside table to workplace to errands and home again. Toni Ahonen, a commentator and author
on new and social media, has called the mobile phone the 7th Mass Media. He notes, Differing from
the internet, mobile as the 7th mass media channel is similar to the five legacy mass media,
economically viable with a stable business model from day one. Yet, differing from the legacy mass
media, all of which are witnessing a decline in their audiences and revenues, mobile like the internet,

points out that the convergence of mobiles combining voice, text, video, audio, geo location, and a
host of applications, pose similar to the introduction of the Internet before it, an inherent threat mass
media channel. Today the mobile phone can replicate everything that all previous six mass media can

In order to fulfill these standards we focus primarily on quality, service and cleanliness (Five Guys,
2009, p. 8). The Asian market was considered to be suitable for expansion and will be examined
during this report regarding its feasibility and choice of nation.
As pointed out by the company s vision, the concept of Five Guys is to create a brand identity that is
focused on familiarity and a close customer relationship. Implementing this business concept in Asia
requires a certain mind set, which is currently observed in the process of establishing an Asian
community, namely ASEAN. There are benefits that derive from a closed economical community,
these are the free flow of goods, services and capital. Taking these into account, Five Guys will only
focus on the ASEAN countries.
The report will open with an overview of the product offerings, will continue with providing
information of the key attributes every store is based upon and then will start with giving a formal
description of the relevance of the chosen framework.

RBA Monetary Policy
The government may also use monetary policy in order to contain economic growth. Monetary policy
refers to changes in interest rates in order to influence aggregate demand and economic activity.
Monetary policy is conducted by the Reserve Bank of Australia, who use domestic market operations
in order to change interest rates. If the RBA takes a loose monetary policy stance the RBA will
purchase Commonwealth Government Securities in secondary bond markets. This increases the cash
in the markets, and therefore pushes the overnight cash rate down. Interest rates will be lowered,
which will result in higher consumer demand as the cost of interest on mortgages and credit card
repayments will decrease. On the other hand a tight monetary stance results ... Show more content on

Microeconomic policies promote the efficient operation of markets as the most effective mechanism
for achieving efficient allocation and use of resources, raise productivity and increase aggregate
supply. Increased aggregate supply will result in decreased inflationary pressures and increased
international competitiveness as Australian producers are able to supply international markets with a
greater volume of goods at lower prices. Greater export earnings will consequently improve Australia
s terms of trade, and will decrease the current account deficit. Microeconomic reforms that promote
increased competition in both domestic and international markets will also encourage greater
innovation and cheaper product, which will benefit consumers. Increases in productivity and
aggregate supply will also result in improvements in labour productivity. Higher productivity and
greater export earnings will result in wage increases for Australian labour, and subsequently living
standards will improve. As a result of higher wages, aggregate demand will increase thus creating

In breaking down these categories, the researcher must ask the correct questions to receive the
answers needed to solve this issue. Additional questions the researcher can ask is: Have you done a
panel interview? Are you applying for job you qualify for? What qualifications do you have that
would make you the best candidate for this job? Have you researched this company and what the job
entails? Are you willing to relocate for a job? If so how many miles are you willing to relocate? What
are your salary expectations? What type of benefits are you looking for? Unfortunately, with
unemployment, this also creates an emotional aspect that also needs to be considered when creating
the questions. Unemployment damages self concept and self esteem which lowers people s motivation
to seek work, which further damages their self concept and lowers motivation to seek work with time
(Redek, Susjan, Kostevc, 2013). Therefore, by asking these various questions, the answers will give
the researcher the opportunity to find out what is missing and why the respondents are unemployed.
The responses could be such factors as the respondents needing additional job training or they need to
work on their job expectations. The overall goal of this survey is to figure out why the percentage of
young adults between the ages of 18 24 have the highest unemployment rate. By creating clear and

Cross Sectional Research Design
This study will utilize a cross sectional research design. Such a design observes behavior or attitudes
that occur at a single point in time, while longitudinal studies allow observations over time. This study
seeks to examine why crime occurs by asking individuals if they have ever committed a crime (point
in time). In addition, it will also be utilized because it is simple and not as costly as a longitudinal
design. It is not in the best interest of the research to utilize a study that will cost a significant amount
of money. Also, it is important to conduct the research in a timely manner using a longitudinal design
would take more time due to its complex nature. Therefore, a cross sectional study has been utilized.

No one factor may ever be able to accurately explain why crime occurs. Due to the fact that the factors
that influence crime are difficult in nature to understand. In addition, there is an extensive list of
factors that may or may not influence the occurrence of crime. There has been a numerous amount of
previous research that tries to explain the influences of crime. But many conclude that more than one
factor must be present to influence the occurrence of crime.
This proposal examined several factors that may influence how much crime occurs. In order to figure

abuse had the strongest relationship with crime. As foretold in a previous section, 60% of individuals

estimated 80% of offenses leading to incarceration in the United States (Wilcox, 2015). In addition,
the findings of this proposal support all the hypotheses except for hypothesis 6 that states whites will
commit more crime than African Americans. There was more empirical evidence that supports the
belief of African Americans committing more crime than whites. The design of this research is again a

Un Peacekeeping In Rwanda Research Paper
A persuasive thesis on the UN peacekeeping mission to Rwanda:
The danger and threats of being a member of the Canadian Armed Forces, is difficult to understand
without having experienced them. An example of these challenges was the situation Canadians serving
the UN faced during the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda (UNAMIR). At times, over
400 Canadian soldiers would face some of the worst violence that could be imagined while taking part
in international peace efforts to try and bring the African nation together.
For centuries, two African tribes have made up the majority of the country s population: the Hutus and
the Tutsis. The Tutsis dominated Rwanda s economy and politics for centuries. In 1960, the Hutu
majority forced the Tutsis to flee the country. Rwanda achieved independence in 1961, the Tutsis that

They are very much like the Albularyos and Manghihilots who use prayers or oraciones with other

Essay on The Responsibility of Macbeth for his own Actions
In the Elizabethan Era, society was highly suspicious of the power of supernatural forces and it was
commonly accepted that one s life was governed by fate and was predetermined. Shakespeare s
Macbeth challenges the Elizabethan ideology of fate by privileging that although Macbeth was a
victim of his vaulting ambition (1:VII 27), he was ultimately responsible for his villainous actions.
Shakespeare has foregounded certain events to privilege that a person has free will and a concience
and the cosequences of going against one s conscience, thus challenging the assumption of the
Elizabethan Era. The audience is invited to sympathise with the protagonist, Macbeth, and see him as
a tragic hero. Before his descent into evil, Macbeth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Macbeth then began a series of murders to retain his fruitless crown (3:I 67), to be thus is nothing, but
to be safely thus (3:I 54). It was Macbeth s latent ambition for power that caused his descent into evil.
Shakespeare foregrounds that Macbeth was aware of and resposible for his actions, through
conscience and free will, to illustrate that he was not a victim of supernatural forces. By doing this he
is challeging the assumptions of the Elizabethan Era that supernatural forces and supernatural
soliciting predetermine one s destiny. The hallucinations and ghostly apparitions are foreground not to
illustrate supernatural interference, but to foreground Macbeth s guilty conscience. Macbeth struggles
with his conscience, this humanises him and invites the audience to relate to him. Even before
Macbeth had committed murder, his conscience was causing him to have qualms. One example of this
is in Act One Scene 7, before the regicide of Duncan. We will proceed no further in this business.
(Duncan) hath honoured me of late, and I have bought golden opinions from all sorts of people, which
would be worn in their newest gloss, not cast aside so soon. Macbeth was disinclined to murder
gracious Duncan as he believed him to be a good king (4:III 163), however he still made the decision
to commit regicide. This foregrounds the internal struggle Macbeth endured with his conscience that
makes him a tragic hero. Supernatural elements exist to

Separation And Education Of Young First Nations Children
The ambition of the Canadian government in regard to First Nations People was to assimilate them
into European culture and erase their culture from the country. Separation and education of young
First Nations children was the major means to achieve their objective. With substantial involvement
from the Christian churches, the residential school system was created and schools were built
throughout the entire country. The Kamloops Indian Residential School was attended by students from
the nations surrounding Kamloops including children from the Secwepemc Nation who occupied the

The Secwepemc children were no exception to the abominable conditions in the residential school

slavery should not be removed. W.E.B disagrees with Booker T ,,,he believes that African Americans

The Environmental Impact Of The Environmental Movement...
Environmental Movement Report
Before the 1960s, environmentalism mainly focused on conservation of resources and the wilderness
and was apparent through Theodore Roosevelt s creation of five National Parks, one hundred fifty
National Forests and about two hundred thirty acres of land set aside for conservation. In the 1960s,
the environmental movement was really able to garner support as it was during many other
movements such as Civil Rights, Peace, and Women s. Many consider the spark for environmentalism
to be Rachel Carson s Silent Spring (1962), which exposed the harmful effects of pollutants such as
DDT on the environment and the public. While minute amounts of DDT cause little to no harm to the
organisms that are affected, as DDT moves up the food chain, it becomes more and more
concentrated. A generally accepted value is that for each level up in the food chain, the concentration
of pollutants increases by a thousand times. The effects of Silent Spring cannot be overestimated. As
people began to become more informed about pollution, more people demanded that the federal
government take action. The environmental movement then grew to encompass global warming, clean
air, energy, the ozone layer, and also pollution. These concerns were vocalized in the very first Earth
Day that occurred on April 22, 1970 and was established by United States Senator Gaylord Nelson. A
group of twenty million Americans, all coming from vastly different backgrounds, celebrated the

Reflection Of A Journey To The Lake Of The Woods
The other day I was making a gratitude list. I do this periodically after I m reminded by someone to
make it a daily practice. I can attest that as it makes me more aware of what people, birthright and
luck brings to one s life. My gratitude list includes living, breathing things, like my dogs and my
friends, and now for the last decade, includes my father and our annual visit to our summer cabin in
Northern Minnesota.
My father just pushed past ninety three in March of this year. I am very grateful to have developed a
relationship with him that is more like a friendship and camaraderie. He makes for great company in a
place with very little noise. Our relationship transformed after my mother passed and now our
vacation week on Lake of the Woods involves us to create conversation and shared experiences.
Our vacation retreat is on a small island that now has several walking paths, the necessary boat dock
and a very modest cabin. As my mother used to say, It s a cabin in the sticks . The island s inhabitance
began in the 1920 s by my father s father. It s both humble and grand. More than once will I hear the
word Paradise as my father voices his awe at the rugged beauty that surrounds us on all sides. You can
only describe these 14, 500 islands that dot Lake of the Woods as timeless . Regardless of
modernization, the vista is an enduring expanse of green cedar and white pine trees whose gnarly roots
hang on for dear life to the granite. It s a wonder

The Definition Of Savagery In The Lord Of The Flies
Every human is a savage. All of us has something savage within our lives. When were born, people
learn humanity and what s right from wrong. In the book The Lord Of The Flies The boys are
definitely considered savages .In the book, the boys are considered savages because it is evident that
when you re at home, you re taught what s right and wrong, but in the book there are no parents,
another reason is the characteristics of humanity was low such as being civilized. Lastly is the way
they talk and treat things/others which shows a huge amount of savagery. The definition of savagery is
the quality of being fierce or cruel. The definition of humanity is the human race/human being
characteristics.Part of life people have different sides of them whether are being nice, sad, mad,
excited, then lastly there s mean/cruel. Being mean/ cruel is basically the definition of Savagery. It is
anarchy which is used in the book. In The Lord Of The Flies the characters are Anarch types. An
example is that Ralph is the hero, but Piggy is the outcast. For the hero s job they must fulfill their
duties and tasks. Ralph tries to help and lead the group throughout the whole thing. The character,
Piggy, He is a main outcast out of all the characters he is also bullied from the boys on the island. He
has many ideas, but is often left out. At home you have your parents or your guardians. There is an
authority figure there at all times telling you what to do and how to grow up in life. they

I Tonya Film Analysis
You know you are getting old when Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan are becoming dated
references but that is where we are on the brink of 2018. Arguably the biggest scandal in the history of
ice skating happened in the early 1990s and here to tell the story from Tonya s point of view is the
film I, Tonya.
I, Tonya is a documentary style film about the life of controversial figure skater Tonya Harding, born
in the boonies of Portland, Oregon Tonya dealt with an abusive mother raising her to be a child
prodigy in the figure skating world. However, her attitude leads to many fights with judges who never
gave her the recognition she deserves being the first US female skater to land a triple double. It is here
she meets her first husband; Jeff Gillooly who was also abusive to her but was behind her throughout
her skating career. One night during the 1994 U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Detroit, Jeff
conspires to scare Nancy Kerrigan giving Tonya a better chance of winning. His associate Shawn
Eckardt decides to take matters into his own hands and has Nancy attacked during training leading to
the infamous scandal that ruined Harding s career. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The film is a dark satire that actually plays the real life events of Tonya s life as closely as they can.
Director Craig Gillespie has the cast recreate actual interviews he conducted with the real life people
involved with the exception of Tonya s mother played by Allison Janney. Allison had free range to
bring her own spin to the character (the reason she was nominated for a Golden Globe). Sebastian
Stan plays a key role as Tonya s abusive husband Jeff who real life version of the events and how they
unfolded conflicts with Tonya s version of the story. The rest of the supporting cast is as true to the
real events as they can be. As a matter of fact, I found an old YouTube video after watching the film
remakes shot for

Running head: COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS POETRY PAPER Comparative Analysis Poetry Paper
My view of the poem Balthazar s Marvelous Afternoon written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez is
absolutely entertaining. Balthazar is a carpenter who takes pride in building a bird cage for a young
boy. The time and effort put into making this bird cage has great morality results for Balthazar. Being
the most beautiful bird cage people in the village has ever seen, Balthazar s pride and extravagant
praise boosts up and he is full of confidence. Ready for delivery and payment Balthazar takes it over
to the boys house and finds out the parents do not approve or such request made by their young son.
Deeply devastated by the refusal of the boys parents Balthazar ... Show more content on

Finally he thinks about the beautiful cage he made and how bad the young boy wanted it so he decides
to give it to him without any payment, leaves and gets drunk with some people from the village. This
Marvelous Afternoon might not have turned out as expected but in reality the marvelous thing about it
in my opinion is him being selfless and thinking about the young boy. From the beginning to the end
of this short story he is well aware that the bird cage cannot belong to anyone but the person who
requested it. The loyalty and dedication to clients in his business offers uniquely created products built
from his heart. In the Poem 5000 Apply for 100 jobs by Jim Daniels, many can relate to this situation.
People all over the Country are unemployed now in days and are willing to get any job they can to
feed their families. This poem is somewhat of similarities with the first poem in a way that the person
telling his experience is grateful for what he has. He is in line trying to find a better opportunity but is
told to leave because all jobs have been filled. Once given the bad news some are upset as to be
violent and swear. Although he is saddened by the news of not being one of the hundred chosen to
work there, he quickly realizes that it is not as bad as he though. He still has a job even if it does not
pay him well but he is able to

Clinical Perspectives Of Acute Pancreatitis And Incretin...
Incretin based drugs have proven to be effective glucose lowering agents (Butler et al, 2013). But
there have been concerns with respect to the long term consequences of using such therapies. The
issues raised were regarding their causal relationship with acute pancreatitis (AP). There are clearly
conflicting evidence that have been presented in preclinical studies and in epidemiologic studies
which suggest an association which may or may not be a causal relationship between these drugs and
AP. (Butler et al, 2013)
In order to have better understanding, data from the manufacturers is reviewed below which will also
show whether the manufacturers of these products behaved ethically as well as what needs to be
reconsider with respect to the use of incretin based therapies because of the growing concern of
potential risk of AP. Hence risk management plans will be discussed below. (Butler et al, 2013)
CLINICAL PERSPECTIVES OF ACUTE PANCREATITIS AND INCRETIN BASED DRUGS
Meier Nauck (2014) reported meta analyses for the available data describing pancreatitis events in
phase 3 trials for DPP 4 inhibitors and GLP 1R agonists. The odds ratio for acute pancreatitis with a
GLP 1R agonist was 1.39, whereas for exposure to a DPP 4 inhibitor, it was 1.07, however the total
number of patients studied and absolute event rates were small (2.1 events of pancreatitis per 1,000
patient years), greater numbers of subjects followed for longer periods of time would be required to

The Importance Of Collective Punishment
Look into a classroom and one would see that collective punishment has long been used to elicit good
behavior from students, but it is time for a closer look. Using tactics of peer pressure to try to enforce
rules on surrounding students does not tend to work. Teachers who use collective punishment usually
find more resentment from their students rather than the good behavior they are looking for, which
begs the question, why do we still think of collective punishment as an effective way to make people
conform? Using collective punishment goes against equality between students, and the equity of the
classroom. Schools should not enforce collective punishment as a technique to correct behavior, since
it can be harmful to innocent students, is ineffective at correcting behavior long term, and can help
instruct students to manipulate others with peer pressure.
In classrooms around the world, students are being held back from leaving class, eating lunch, or
going to recess due to one reason; collective punishment. Collective punishment can be detrimental to
students, and can even be overwhelming to children who did nothing wrong, I started noticing just
how devastating group punishments can be to the type of child who wants to please and is determined
to follow the rules , (Watson) as the students don t understand why they are being punished because
they didn t do anything wrong. It can cause resentment in students who did nothing wrong to suddenly
be punished for their peers

Application Of Sub Elements Of Communicative Competence

focus on the applications of sub elements of communicative competence.
3.4.2.2 Administrating the classroom observation checklist
After completing the observation checklist pilot for more than a week in Russed secondary school and
observing three teachers thereby confirming the ease of using it, I approached the other secondary
school managers as well as teachers of English language at their secondary schools to schedule the test
observations.
Among the secondary schools that I visited were: Alsh ab secondary school, which is situated on the
Northern side of the centre of Russed capital districts four kilometers away. I had already paid a visit
to Alsh ab secondary school to get permissions from both the secondary school manager as well as
English language teachers there. The first visit occurred because the school is out of the Cell phone
coverage service and such arrangements could not be made by phoning .
While getting the permissions and scheduling the times for observation, I returned to visit on
(25/2/2015). In Alsh ab secondary school, the researcher observes two secondary school teachers
there. One of them was teaching the first year students of the secondary school a lesson entitled, The

Rob Elliot s Ethics And Ethics
Rob Elliot s Ethics Rob Elliot, who had worked at the MGM resort international for a total of fifteen
years as Vice President accomplishing many things. He had come up with the design of the license
plate that says, Welcome to Las Vegas which is seen all around town here in Vegas. Before Rob had
come to the MGM he had worked for the government. Elliot had come to our class last week to talk
about the importance of ethics. Ethics and character are what were made up of, and why it is an
important part in the hospitality as well as the hotel industry. Who you are as a person can come along
way, not just in school but in life as well. Ethics is considered a reality check, but overall having an
experience is a key component. With ethics you must know the difference of good and bad vs. right
and wrong. Rob Elliot discussed what the Headline Rule is and its importance. The Headline Rule is
having a positive reputation of the company, and not doing something that puts the company on the
front page of a paper or headline in a negative way. People believe that being on the front page of the
news is always a positive thing, but in some cases that could not be true in the hospitality world. When
you work for a company, you represent them on the clock as well as off the clock. You must think to
yourself about your actions and what effect they might encounter at that moment or in the long run.
Rob Elliot said he believes that once your integrity is gone, you have nothing left at

The Nuclear Of Uranium And The Atomic Bomb
Introduction
Beginning in 1941 the exploration of uranium 235 and the atomic bomb began. The bomb would be
used against Japan to end the deadly encounters during World War II in exchange for unconditional
surrender. In 1945 the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima killing over 190,000 people and then another
bomb was dropped on Nagasaki killing about 70,000 people. Japan surrendered bringing an end to the
war but this was only the beginning of what is known as the nuclear age.
Historical context
German physicist, Otto Hahn and German chemist, Fritz Strassmann, began conducting experiments
on uranium when, in 1938, the two were completely bewildered by the results of their experiment and
sent the outcome to physicist Lise Meitner who was astounded by the results as well. Otto Hahn, Fritz
Strassmann, and Lise Meitner had become the first to recognize that uranium could split and release
energy. ( Harnessing of Nuclear Fission. ) Soon after though, the war started.
World War 2 was started September 1, 1939 by Adolf Hitler and lasted until September 2, 1945. It was
the most widespread and deadliest war in history involving over 30 countries and resulting in about 50
million deaths. The major aggressors were Germany, Italy, and Japan. 6 million of the people killed
were in concentration camps because they were Jewish. ( World War II History )
During the war Germany took over a small town, St. Joachimsthal in Bohemia that contained a
uranium mine. Physicists Leo

Comparing Empires (Persia vs Rome)
Jacob Anderson
World Civ I
Empires
Persia Rome
The foundations of an ancient empire are shaped by many characteristics originating in a civilization s
social, philosophical, and theological values. Collectively these will bring about an empire that has
aspects which will classify them in distinctive ways. The aspects that will be compared between Persia
and Rome are the motives for expansion, methods of expansion, the administration, the impact on
those conquered and the original empire, and the reasons for the decline of each empire. When
combined, these aspects predispose the individual overall shape of ancient Rome and Persia. Both
empires began with conquering larger rulers and creating vast empires which had never been seen ...

Having the satraps lessened the attempt of independence as well as having an administration made up
of locals helped keep revolts down. The impact of expansion on the core Persian Empire was
generally looked at and received in a positive manner. Increasing populations created more cities and
more job opportunities allowed many Persians the luxury of making more money as the empire grew.
The bulk of the empire was still mostly farmers, however. One of the largest influences on the core
empire was Zoroastrianism. This was advocated by both Cyrus and Darius, Darius used it in order to
claim divine right to kingship. This new religion spread very quickly through high ranking Persians
(Bentley and Ziegler, 174). Zoroastrianism preached for people to enjoy this life but to live well for
the afterlife (Stearns, Zoroastrianism: The Major Persian Religion, 43 45). This allowed people to
have fun in this life and still be able to have eternal bliss; when people are having fun and happy they
are less likely to challenge their rulers. Cyrus and Darius both tolerated ethnic and theological
diversity. They did not try to force Persian culture on the conquered people. It seemed as though the
Persians just wanted to have the right to tax and have control of the land and its riches. The Seleucids,
Parthians, and Sasanids also advocated this policy. Although this policy worked quite well in allowing
for fluid execution of ruling,

Prospero And Ariel s Relationship Quotes
For Ariel, he has Prospero s name engraved in his heart to signify that Ariel belongs to Prospero and
must do his bidding. The character also has a backbone made from gold chains to demonstrate that
Ariel is Prospero s personal slave, but is trying to get freedom, he is close to his goal as gold is a weak
metal that can be broken easily. Within the character s eyes, bird is written inside to signify the
character s ultimate desire to be free in the wild just as how birds can fly freely. Ariel also stands on
top of welcome mat to show the character s peaceful nature that makes him beloved by his master.

Prospero states, Why, that s my dainty Ariel. I shall miss thee, [but] yet thou shalt have freedom. So,
so, so. To the king s ship, invisible as thou art. The quote takes up the final words of Prospero to Ariel
in that Ariel has gained freedom, which has been the character s ultimate goal throughout the play.
Then in Act 4, Scene 1, Ariel sates, Before you can say Come and Go, And breathe twice and cry So,
so! Each one, tripping on his toe, will be here with mop and mow. Do you love me, master, no? Ariel
is wanting his master s approval stating that he is loyal person who wants to be trusted, thus showing
his character. For Caliban, his main flaw can be stated by Prospero in Act 1, Scene 2 in which Caliban
is called, Thou liest, malignant thing! Hast thou forgot. The foul witch Sycorax, who with age and
envy. Was grown into a hoop? Hast thou forgot her? This shows the Caliban has been lying about his
position in the island, this is a part of his evil properties that composes him to do anything for island s
ownership. However, Caliban still follows Prospero s rule due to his magic as stated in Act 1, Scene 2
in which he states, No, pray thee. (aside) I must obey. His art is of such power. It would control my
dam s god. Setebos, And make a vassal of him. The quote signifies that he afraid of his master, so that

Essay On Angle Analysis Paper
Introduction: The group of Kayla Morabito, Garrett Lewis, Rebecca Oviedo and Zach Prow were
tasked with measuring the PLM building on Main Campus at Wake tech. The first step was to find the
building then measure perpendicularly out thirty feet using a string and measuring tape. Starting from
the ground, at zero feet, one group member held the protracted while the other looked at the angle
created by the top of the building. The group members would rotate places to double check the angle
measure to ensure accuracy. The same process would occur at two and four feet off the ground all still
at thirty feet away; now a group member would have to hold the tape measure tightly with tension.
The purpose is to find the angle measure created by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the four feet measurement, the angle was easier to see therefor the height was a little easier to
calculate versus the ground measurement. Although these numbers were in the general area, for all
three calculations some error was present due to estimations of the angle as well as holding the
protractor. This was difficult because it needed to be in the exact same spot for all calculations since a
group member needed to hold it, the proctor did move slightly throwing off the numbers only a few
degrees. The difficulties in this project was obtaining the data from the ground because it was difficult
to get underneath the protractor to see the angle; someone was on the ground looking up at the
building leaving room for interpretation of the angle measure. This process could have been done
differently by choosing a spot with a lower vantage point. For example, if a group was to measure this
building again and there were stairs, to stand at the bottom of the stairs while still on the ground level
that the building is on. This way that the calculations are still measuring from the ground to the top of
the building, but it would be a lot easier to see underneath the angle versus lying on the

  • 2. The Female Characters Of The Film, By Pan s Labyrinth Patriarchy is described as a general structure where men hold the position of power over women. This could include being the head of the household, upper level in the workplace, or leader in society. Cinema serves this patriarchal institution by constantly constructing ideological images of women. Since the beginning, women in film are made to conform to the ideal image that the man has of them (Smelik, 496). Essentially, Hollywood cinema is structured for the male audience, and therefore majority of films are classified as patriarchal. A lot has to do with how female characters are portrayed and if there is a male gaze in the film. Although Pan s Labyrinth is constructed through the classic narrative mode, the film has a female lead and focuses on women. Del Toro demonstrates the female characters overcoming obstacles and stigmas. Ofelia and Mercedes are the two strong female protagonists who are good natured and act to what they think is right, different from the passive or aggressive protagonists found in traditional fairytales. So, how do these two women subvert and problematize the patriarchal stereotype? In the paper, I will analyze the mise en scene of the two different worlds and the inclusion of the male gaze to establish how these women subvert and problematize the patriarchal stereotype. To start off, there are two worlds depicted within the film; a hostile fascist government in Spain and an enchanted fantasy world. In the real world, the form is strictly ... • 3. Essay Comparing Oedipus And Othello Sandy Rowan Sandy Christina Cannon English 1102 4 March 2018 Other People s Cups Both Sophocles s Oedipus the King and William Shakespeare s Othello, the Moor of Venice are well known for their tragic endings. At the end of each play, both of the main characters have suffered great loss to the point of no recovery. These endings are, unfortunately, a semi accurate depiction of very possible outcomes to anybody: bad things happen to good people. Although the endings of these two main characters are irredeemably unhappy, the lives of the rest of those in each play has their own chances. There is a theme of deterioration within Sophocles s Oedipus the King. Oedipus (the main character, king of Thebes) starts his downward spiral of deterioration when he starts to link himself to a prophecy that claimed he would kill his father and sleep with his mother when Jocasta describes how her former husband died and what he looked like starting in line 805. Because he cannot let the subject go, Oedipus discovers that his true parents were King Laius and Queen Jocasta in line 1210, Look old man...that child! Starting with his true understanding of what he has done in line 1250, Oedipus starts to lose his mind completely until his ultimate sign of deterioration in line 1345 when he gauges out his eyes after he s discovered Jocasta killed ... • 8. Uniform Crime Statistics Although crime has been around for ages, we only started collecting crime data around the 1930 s. Crime statistics show a lot about a country, state, county, etc. Crime can be linked to the environment, behavior of others, and personal experiences, it all depends on how the person deals with the hand they are dealt. Crime data is collected from three sources, which are uniform crime reports (UCR), national incident based reporting system (NIBRS), and national crime victimization survey (NCVS). Today most all states participate in crime statistics. Years ago, not every state would turn in their crime reports, which effected the total percentage of crimes in the nation. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Bureau of Justice Statistics report crime statistics. Police stations from all over the U.S. send their reports of crimes to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Justice Statistics. For example, a police station will report to the FBI that they had twenty one reports of robberies for the current year. The Uniform Crime Report (UCR) is a report that is used for the more serious crimes, such as forcible rape, murder, arson, etc. The UCR is calculated three different ways. The Federal Bureau of Investigation are specific about the number of how many incidences were reported for a certain crime. Also, when the FBI calculates the percentages of the crime reports for a crime and compares the crime rates and an examination is completed to tell if the crime rate has increased or decreased for the current year. The Uniform Crime Reports (UCR) also calculates the number of crimes out of one hundred thousand people. Another report the FBI creates is the National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS), this report is an elaborated version of the UCR. It takes all the serious crimes from the Uniform Crime Reports and breaks them down into certain categories that creates more vivid reports. These reports are very well detailed and give more information about the crimes, like how many people were arrested. The National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) is collected from police stations around the United States. The NIBRS is a report of basically incident reports. • 9. The Importance Of Public Service Advertisements Public service announcements, or PSA, are some of the most influential forms of advertisements. In a darker colored advertisement posted by Ekburg.RU called Think of Both Sides , it depicts an inside view of a family in the car with the father driving and distracted on the phone. There are two passengers in the car his wife who is distracted by a map and their child. The key component of this picture is that you can see their small child, who looks very innocent, in their rear view mirror and a child in front of their car clearly filled with fear. The piece is very focused on the harms on the family s children and the child close to being hit, rather than the distracted parents. According to The Association of Psychological Science, getting hit by a vehicle is in the top three causes of deaths for children ages 5 to 9 (Why Kids Get Hit By Cars). The public service announcement not only displays the importance of paying attention to what is in front of you, but also being aware of how your actions can harm others. The first component, as well as the one that takes up the most space in the advertisement, is the parents. With both the husband on the phone, looking at his wife and his wife holding a map, reciprocating a look towards her husband, both are clueless to what is in front of them: a little kid with fear taking over his face. The reason why the parents are not focused on the road could be for the reasons that the man is on an important phone call as well as that they also needed directions. Regardless of the reason, both are blind to the harms they are putting everyone in this situation in. It is very clear that these adults did not consider their actions before doing them because they probably never considered that it could have been their child in the situation the little boy is in. The children are not at fault. The second, and considerably largest, component in the advertisement is the children: the one about to be struck by the car as well as the small child in the backseat of the car. It is safe to say that both of these children are innocent people in the situation as they cannot control that the man and woman are distracted. The child in front of the car is wearing a backpack and a nicer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What so much of the world actively hungers for in its public life, and so very rarely finds, is there in Nelson Mandela leadership with moral force. Are there any others in our day with such exceptional characteristics? I guess not. Nelson Mandela didn t just spread awareness to stop racism and apartheid but also wanted to spread love and kindness among the people of the world as during the UN they asked everyone to take 67 minutes out of their day to aid others. The reason the number 67 was chosen is because Mandela has spent 67 years of his life servicing and helping humanity as a whole, shows how much respect the world gives to Nelson Mandela as not a hero but also as a role model. Parents know how much experience a young driver has, and they know exactly how inconvenient it is when they have to drive with their teen everywhere while they have their permit. Teens tend to cause most traffic accidents in adults eyes. They are not experienced yet, and often fail to pay attention to others on the road. They often think of a car as being some type of toy, but they do not know how powerful it really is. The driver education programs must be strengthened in order to make sure that students really have safer habits, behind the wheel experience, and by having a better understanding of all the laws on the road. The course gives teens a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, insurance rates are high enough as it is for teens now. If they get into a car accident, the insurance rates will sky rocket, their parents may have a hard time being able to afford the insurance. Traffic crashes are the leading cause of fatalities for teens. As stated in a magazine, Drivers ages 16 to 19 are four times more than likely than older drivers to crash (Brophy). This quote shows that teen drivers are involved in more traffic accidents then older drivers. It has much to do with the young drivers not being safe and making horrible choices while they are driving or in the car with another person. If teens engage in the driving education course, they will definitely become more knowledgeable about all the safe ways to drive when their parents do not have to ride with them anymore. • 12. Virginia Woolf Two Cafeterias Two Cafeterias , by Virginia Woolf, was written showing an underlying message of how different men and woman are treated in this culture. Using words, descriptions, and tones Woolf expresses to the reader how insignificant woman in this day are made to feel. Woolf shows throughout the entire piece that the men of this society are treated to nothing less than invariably memorable luncheon parties while woman are downgraded to dinner in the dining room. By showing the different standards in which society holds men and woman during something as simple as a meal, Woolf undeniably succeeds in showing the low level in which woman stand during this time. The men s meal is one that leaves Woolf feeling as though we are all going to heaven. She lists off the potatoes being thin as coins, sprouts foliated as rosebuds , and pudding so good that if it were otherwise related to rice and tapioca would be nothing less than completely downgrading. The luncheon party was so proper that them speaking of what was being eaten was unacceptable. The men were greeted with things such as serving men and cushioned window seats for they are considered to be the most vital in their society. The Secwepemc children were no exception to the abominable conditions in the residential school systems facilities and the effects of these schools can last a lifetime. The students who attended the Kamloops Indian Residential School were cut off from their communities and families; stripped of their language and culture; and subjected to abuse and severe labour, hunger, and abuse. The Secwepemc People are indigenous to the south central region of British Columbia. The Secwepemc Nation is also called the Shuswap Nation, more so by non indigenous people, which is an English version of Secwepemc. Du Bois I saw dawn upon them like the sun a vision of a time when all men walk proudly through the earth and the bombs and missiles lie at the bottom of the ocean like the bones of dinosaurs buried under the shale of eras. Dudley Felker Randall born january 1914 in Washington D.C. growing up in the middle class home where his college educated parents instilled justice, education and an appreciation for poetry in young Dudley. Du Bois in a simple dialogue; In the poem it is about two great leaders of the black community, Booker T and W.E.B sharing their beliefs. Randall wrote this poem during the segregation, when African Americans were fighting for their freedom and rights. Booker T see African American labor work is for the benefit of the black community. Booker T is basically saying that slavery is not bad and that slavery should not be removed. W.E.B disagrees with Booker T ,,,he believes that African Americans should stand up for their freedom and not be put to work as slaves. Randall uses rhyme in the poem to interpret Brooker T perspectives and W.E.B perspectives. In the first stanza Booker said When Mister Charlie needs a hand to hoe the cotton on his land, and when Miss Ann looks for a cook, why stick your nose inside a book . Brooker T is saying that African Americans do not need education because they already have a job to do as lower calles serfs working for white people. He is saying that slavery is not a bad thing and that African Americans should stay slaves. In the second stanza W.E.B disagrees, he said that Charles and Miss can look another place for hand or cook . He believes that African Americans should fight for their freedom and should be treated as an equal citizen. • 38. The Environmental Impact Of The Environmental Movement... Environmental Movement Report Before the 1960s, environmentalism mainly focused on conservation of resources and the wilderness and was apparent through Theodore Roosevelt s creation of five National Parks, one hundred fifty National Forests and about two hundred thirty acres of land set aside for conservation. In the 1960s, the environmental movement was really able to garner support as it was during many other movements such as Civil Rights, Peace, and Women s. Many consider the spark for environmentalism to be Rachel Carson s Silent Spring (1962), which exposed the harmful effects of pollutants such as DDT on the environment and the public. While minute amounts of DDT cause little to no harm to the organisms that are affected, as DDT moves up the food chain, it becomes more and more concentrated. A generally accepted value is that for each level up in the food chain, the concentration of pollutants increases by a thousand times. The effects of Silent Spring cannot be overestimated. As people began to become more informed about pollution, more people demanded that the federal government take action. The environmental movement then grew to encompass global warming, clean air, energy, the ozone layer, and also pollution. These concerns were vocalized in the very first Earth Day that occurred on April 22, 1970 and was established by United States Senator Gaylord Nelson. A group of twenty million Americans, all coming from vastly different backgrounds, celebrated the holiday ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Reflection Of A Journey To The Lake Of The Woods The other day I was making a gratitude list. I do this periodically after I m reminded by someone to make it a daily practice. I can attest that as it makes me more aware of what people, birthright and luck brings to one s life. My gratitude list includes living, breathing things, like my dogs and my friends, and now for the last decade, includes my father and our annual visit to our summer cabin in Northern Minnesota. My father just pushed past ninety three in March of this year. I am very grateful to have developed a relationship with him that is more like a friendship and camaraderie. He makes for great company in a place with very little noise. Our relationship transformed after my mother passed and now our vacation week on Lake of the Woods involves us to create conversation and shared experiences. Our vacation retreat is on a small island that now has several walking paths, the necessary boat dock and a very modest cabin. As my mother used to say, It s a cabin in the sticks . The island s inhabitance began in the 1920 s by my father s father. It s both humble and grand. More than once will I hear the word Paradise as my father voices his awe at the rugged beauty that surrounds us on all sides. You can only describe these 14, 500 islands that dot Lake of the Woods as timeless . Regardless of modernization, the vista is an enduring expanse of green cedar and white pine trees whose gnarly roots hang on for dear life to the granite. It s a wonder ... Arguably the biggest scandal in the history of ice skating happened in the early 1990s and here to tell the story from Tonya s point of view is the film I, Tonya. I, Tonya is a documentary style film about the life of controversial figure skater Tonya Harding, born in the boonies of Portland, Oregon Tonya dealt with an abusive mother raising her to be a child prodigy in the figure skating world. However, her attitude leads to many fights with judges who never gave her the recognition she deserves being the first US female skater to land a triple double. It is here she meets her first husband; Jeff Gillooly who was also abusive to her but was behind her throughout her skating career. One night during the 1994 U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Detroit, Jeff conspires to scare Nancy Kerrigan giving Tonya a better chance of winning. His associate Shawn Eckardt decides to take matters into his own hands and has Nancy attacked during training leading to the infamous scandal that ruined Harding s career. ... Sebastian Stan plays a key role as Tonya s abusive husband Jeff who real life version of the events and how they unfolded conflicts with Tonya s version of the story. Balthazar is a carpenter who takes pride in building a bird cage for a young boy. The time and effort put into making this bird cage has great morality results for Balthazar. Being the most beautiful bird cage people in the village has ever seen, Balthazar s pride and extravagant praise boosts up and he is full of confidence. Finally he thinks about the beautiful cage he made and how bad the young boy wanted it so he decides to give it to him without any payment, leaves and gets drunk with some people from the village. This Marvelous Afternoon might not have turned out as expected but in reality the marvelous thing about it in my opinion is him being selfless and thinking about the young boy. From the beginning to the end of this short story he is well aware that the bird cage cannot belong to anyone but the person who requested it. The loyalty and dedication to clients in his business offers uniquely created products built from his heart. In the Poem 5000 Apply for 100 jobs by Jim Daniels, many can relate to this situation. People all over the Country are unemployed now in days and are willing to get any job they can to feed their families. This poem is somewhat of similarities with the first poem in a way that the person telling his experience is grateful for what he has. But there have been concerns with respect to the long term consequences of using such therapies. The issues raised were regarding their causal relationship with acute pancreatitis (AP). There are clearly conflicting evidence that have been presented in preclinical studies and in epidemiologic studies which suggest an association which may or may not be a causal relationship between these drugs and AP. (Butler et al, 2013) In order to have better understanding, data from the manufacturers is reviewed below which will also show whether the manufacturers of these products behaved ethically as well as what needs to be reconsider with respect to the use of incretin based therapies because of the growing concern of potential risk of AP. Hence risk management plans will be discussed below. (Butler et al, 2013) CLINICAL PERSPECTIVES OF ACUTE PANCREATITIS AND INCRETIN BASED DRUGS Meier Nauck (2014) reported meta analyses for the available data describing pancreatitis events in phase 3 trials for DPP 4 inhibitors and GLP 1R agonists. The odds ratio for acute pancreatitis with a GLP 1R agonist was 1.39, whereas for exposure to a DPP 4 inhibitor, it was 1.07, however the total number of patients studied and absolute event rates were small (2.1 events of pancreatitis per 1,000 patient years), greater numbers of subjects followed for longer periods of time would be required to increase the ... • 44. The Importance Of Collective Punishment Look into a classroom and one would see that collective punishment has long been used to elicit good behavior from students, but it is time for a closer look. Using tactics of peer pressure to try to enforce rules on surrounding students does not tend to work. Teachers who use collective punishment usually find more resentment from their students rather than the good behavior they are looking for, which begs the question, why do we still think of collective punishment as an effective way to make people conform? Using collective punishment goes against equality between students, and the equity of the classroom. Schools should not enforce collective punishment as a technique to correct behavior, since it can be harmful to innocent students, is ineffective at correcting behavior long term, and can help instruct students to manipulate others with peer pressure. In classrooms around the world, students are being held back from leaving class, eating lunch, or going to recess due to one reason; collective punishment. Collective punishment can be detrimental to students, and can even be overwhelming to children who did nothing wrong, I started noticing just how devastating group punishments can be to the type of child who wants to please and is determined to follow the rules , (Watson) as the students don t understand why they are being punished because they didn t do anything wrong. It can cause resentment in students who did nothing wrong to suddenly be punished for their peers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ethics and character are what were made up of, and why it is an important part in the hospitality as well as the hotel industry. Who you are as a person can come along way, not just in school but in life as well. Ethics is considered a reality check, but overall having an experience is a key component. With ethics you must know the difference of good and bad vs. right and wrong. Rob Elliot discussed what the Headline Rule is and its importance. The Headline Rule is having a positive reputation of the company, and not doing something that puts the company on the front page of a paper or headline in a negative way. People believe that being on the front page of the news is always a positive thing, but in some cases that could not be true in the hospitality world. When you work for a company, you represent them on the clock as well as off the clock. • 48. The Nuclear Of Uranium And The Atomic Bomb Introduction Beginning in 1941 the exploration of uranium 235 and the atomic bomb began. The bomb would be used against Japan to end the deadly encounters during World War II in exchange for unconditional surrender. In 1945 the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima killing over 190,000 people and then another bomb was dropped on Nagasaki killing about 70,000 people. Japan surrendered bringing an end to the war but this was only the beginning of what is known as the nuclear age. Historical context German physicist, Otto Hahn and German chemist, Fritz Strassmann, began conducting experiments on uranium when, in 1938, the two were completely bewildered by the results of their experiment and sent the outcome to physicist Lise Meitner who was astounded by the results as well. Otto Hahn, Fritz Strassmann, and Lise Meitner had become the first to recognize that uranium could split and release energy. ( Harnessing of Nuclear Fission. ) Soon after though, the war started. World War 2 was started September 1, 1939 by Adolf Hitler and lasted until September 2, 1945. It was the most widespread and deadliest war in history involving over 30 countries and resulting in about 50 million deaths. The major aggressors were Germany, Italy, and Japan. 6 million of the people killed were in concentration camps because they were Jewish. Comparing Empires (Persia vs Rome) Jacob Anderson World Civ I Empires Persia Rome The foundations of an ancient empire are shaped by many characteristics originating in a civilization s social, philosophical, and theological values. Collectively these will bring about an empire that has aspects which will classify them in distinctive ways. The aspects that will be compared between Persia and Rome are the motives for expansion, methods of expansion, the administration, the impact on those conquered and the original empire, and the reasons for the decline of each empire. When combined, these aspects predispose the individual overall shape of ancient Rome and Persia. Having the satraps lessened the attempt of independence as well as having an administration made up of locals helped keep revolts down. The impact of expansion on the core Persian Empire was generally looked at and received in a positive manner. Increasing populations created more cities and more job opportunities allowed many Persians the luxury of making more money as the empire grew. The bulk of the empire was still mostly farmers, however. One of the largest influences on the core empire was Zoroastrianism. This was advocated by both Cyrus and Darius, Darius used it in order to claim divine right to kingship. This new religion spread very quickly through high ranking Persians (Bentley and Ziegler, 174). Zoroastrianism preached for people to enjoy this life but to live well for the afterlife (Stearns, Zoroastrianism: The Major Persian Religion, 43 45). This allowed people to have fun in this life and still be able to have eternal bliss; when people are having fun and happy they are less likely to challenge their rulers. Cyrus and Darius both tolerated ethnic and theological diversity. They did not try to force Persian culture on the conquered people. It seemed as though the Persians just wanted to have the right to tax and have control of the land and its riches. The Seleucids, Parthians, and Sasanids also advocated this policy. The first step was to find the building then measure perpendicularly out thirty feet using a string and measuring tape. Starting from the ground, at zero feet, one group member held the protracted while the other looked at the angle created by the top of the building. The group members would rotate places to double check the angle measure to ensure accuracy. At the four feet measurement, the angle was easier to see therefor the height was a little easier to calculate versus the ground measurement. Although these numbers were in the general area, for all three calculations some error was present due to estimations of the angle as well as holding the protractor. This was difficult because it needed to be in the exact same spot for all calculations since a group member needed to hold it, the proctor did move slightly throwing off the numbers only a few degrees. The difficulties in this project was obtaining the data from the ground because it was difficult to get underneath the protractor to see the angle; someone was on the ground looking up at the building leaving room for interpretation of the angle measure. This process could have been done differently by choosing a spot with a lower vantage point. For example, if a group was to measure this building again and there were stairs, to stand at the bottom of the stairs while still on the ground level that the building is on.
