The Magnolia Story Characters
Sometimes opposites do attract. In the book The Magnolia Story by Chip and Joanna Gaines they are
on a show called Fixer Upper where they fix houses up and flip them. Chip and Joanna meet when
Joanna was working at her dad s shop in Waco, Texas. Throughout the book, Chip and Joanna did
have there ups and downs, but they always managed to get through it. Sometimes it s weird the
direction you think your life is going to take you, and the way it ends up going. Joanna moved around
a lot growing up because her dad was in the Armed Forces. Joanna was half Korean because her
mother was Korean. Growing up Joanna knew she was always different from other people, but no one
ever said anything; until she got older. Since she moved around a

Drew Struzan Analysis
I had seen Drew Struzan s artwork my entire life without ever realizing it. The iconic movie posters,
that commonly are displayed on the front of the movie cover, are easily recognized by most
Americans. Classic movies, such as Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, Harry Potter, Hook, and Star
Wars have all had their covers graced by the iconic art of Drew Struzan. I was struck in awe as I came
to the realization that someone had actually drawn all of these realistic images that had been a part of
my entire life. I had never thought about who made all of the drawings to fill up promotional posters,
or even who may have designed the movie itself. As I watched clips of him drawing the posters, I was
amazed at his ability to bring the characters

Taste And Vision By Ackerman
Ackerman s writing on taste and vision is a very entertaining essay. The writing was easy to follow
and was written on an interesting topic, which everyone can relate to. The most entertaining and
informative parts were food and vision. I learned a great deal in that section and was entertaining to
learn how food and vision are so closely related. For example all the different types of foods that are
considered aphrodisiacs. Another entertaining section was the part about food and its history. How the
Egyptians thought very highly of the onion and swore upon it as we do the bible. Overall this was a
good essay it flowed nicely and was really easy to follow along. The following are the topics I chose
to discuss concerning taste and vision

Reading Ackerman has certainly influenced my writing style. By witnessing her vivid descriptions and
scrupulous attention to detail, she has shown me a better way to write more concisely and accurately.
Ackerman has also shown me that writing through experience is an effective way to tell stories about
historical events. Also, her tone throughout the novel keeps things light and interesting, and when
added to her dramatic portrayals of the five senses makes for a very entertaining

Obsessive Comparative Disorder
As Confidence is generally described as a state of being certain either that a hypothesis or prediction is
correct or that a chosen course of action is the best or most effective. Or as Self confidence is defined

Homeless Problem
Homeless people are those that cannot maintain regular, secure and adequate housing. They are on the
side of streets, looking for ways to earn money and provide for themselves and their families. The
underprivileged and poor health is exceedingly interconnected. Poverty arises from political, social
and economical inequalities. Poverty leads to one becoming sick because of the lack of sanitation,
poor nutrition, making the choice of putting health at risk to provide for their family. Poor health in
turn traps communities in poverty. Residing in overcrowded and poor conditions contribute to the
spread of diseases such as tuberculosis and pneumonia. There are 2,291 unsheltered, 3,060 sheltered,

aged 13 years old to 18 years old is family conflict over sexual orientation. A 2007 report from the
National Gay and Lesbian Task Force (NGLTF) states that 26% of gay teens who open up to their

Review Of What Women Can Learn From Men By Margaret Wente
A Review of What Women Can Learn From Men By Margaret Wente Margaret Wente s July 2015
Globe and Mail article, What Women Can Learn From Men addresses a common phenomenon, the
comparison: between men and women. With her article, she hopes to advise women on how they can
improve themselves and their lives with simple changes. Furthermore, she wisely chooses to avoid a
sexist approach by commending men on their behavioral traits despite her gender. Infact, using logical
implications, she portrayed herself as an example rather than offend her audience. Additionally,
through evidence, figures, facts and a link, she skillfully supports her theories thus making her article
significantly factual and effective. Although Margaret starts by stereotypically generalising men, she
depicts some of their great qualities that women can truly learn from. Using different approaches, she
portrays women and their thoughts then skillfully explains how they can better themselves by thinking
like men. Despite how she initially condemned men, she concludes by logically beseeching that man
shaming has gone far enough and should stop. Despite being an article in the extensively read
Canadian newspaper the Globe and mail , Margaret s target audience is the broad female population.
She therefore uses a different approach, one with less specialized language, as was stated in Mind
Wide Open. The purpose is quite clear: she portrays women s behavioral traits and their thoughts then

Andy Warhol 32 Soup Cans Analysis
Andy Warhol s thirty two canvases titled 32 Soup Cans was created in 1962. This renowned American
Pop Artist, known for his repeating reproductions and gaudy colors, produced this piece using the
printmaking method. Warhol didn t want his paintings of mass produced commercial goods to be
conceptually stimulating. He wanted to make his work relatable so that viewers could approach them
and have a clear interpretation. Warhol replicated the appearance of manufactured objects and famous
icons for the sake of expressing his view on modern culture in a manner that had nothing to do with
personality or individual expression. According to Eric Shanes in his book titled Warhol, Warhol s 32
Soup Cans were initially displayed in a single line around the gallery walls. The original display
maximized the repetitiousness of the imagery. The display was so spatially extended, and ultimately
projected the fearsome notion that the whole universe was filled with Campbell s soup. Shane points
out that Warhol developed the notion of taking an image familiar to millions and presenting it
frontally, without painterly qualities, and with a flat surround (as though it was some kind of holy
icon) (Shanes, 52). Shanes points out that Warhol formed an alliance between abstract expressionist
paint handling and popular cultural imagery. Shanes also notes that ... Show more content on

idea that hadn t been blunt in my mind until now. It is clear to me that pieces like 32 Soup Cans be

Analysis Of A Crucible Of Reform Movement

Louisa May Alcott was in every way born to become a reformist. It is even said that [a]s an adult,
Louisa May sometimes signed her letters, Yours for reforms of all kinds (Concord Women Cast First
Votes). Growing up in early nineteenth century Massachusetts, a crucible of reform movements, to
parents who were both incredibly dedicated to reformation, she was exposed to many different reform
movements throughout the entirety of her life. While her immense success as an author would
ultimately overshadow her devout work for women s rights, she is still to be considered an essential

Abby Alcott, Louisa s mother, was a highly educated young woman, rare for her time, but like her
husband, made poor decisions that would ultimately hurt the family s well being severely. Abby
worked as a nurse for families living in poverty, who could not afford health care from paid doctors.
However, Mrs. Alcott was very careless about her nursing and never bothered to ask what she was

daughters. The Scarlett fever Abby brought home would eventually lead to the death of one of her
daughters, Beth (Steven 112). Her parent s financial carelessness lead her to beg[in] writing to make

she would one day become rich so she could provide for her family, in the way her father had not.

Essay on The Effectiveness of Sports Drinks Compared to Water
Staying hydrated is one of the most important parts of physical activity. In Clinics of Sports Medicine,
it explains that Maintenance of water and electrolyte balance is important for sustaining cognitive and
physical performance. Dehydration degrades morale and desire to work. Body water deficits of as
little as 2% body weight can impair physical performance. Water deficits of 5% to 7% body weight are
associated with headaches, dizziness, and apathy (Latzka, Montain 1). To prevent dehydration and its

A Modern Day Form Of Slavery Essay
Literature Review
While DMST is considered to be a modern day form of slavery, history has recorded that the sexual
exploitation of children has been practiced in America since its colonization. While slavery was
abolished in the 19th century, it did not dissipate completely and it wasn t until the beginning of the
20th century that the issue of child sex trafficking began to receive significant attention. This was in
part due to the Trafficking Victim s Protection Act (TVPA) that was passed in 2000 which protected
victims of trafficking by enhancing criminal penalties under the law as well as made benefits and
services to victims available (TVPA, 2000). Since the act s establishment, the TVPA has been
amended 4 times in order to grow with the changing attitudes, policies, and approaches to best combat
human trafficking (DeCeoursty, 2016). The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 refueled the
United States dedication to sex trafficking by declaring DMST as a threat to national security which
transformed the way human trafficking should be approached (DeCeoursty, 2016). The post 911
environment embraced a crime control approach by focusing more on combating organized crime
activity instead of the issue of human rights and the recognition of victimization (DeCeoursty, 2016).
However, this crime control approach to human trafficking failed to address the underlying structural
problems, which is the high demand for the sex trafficking industry. Over time, the Department of

The Importance Of Complementary And Alternative Medicine
ABSTRACT
Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is increasingly popular and widely used. The studies
and research on CAM is limited compared to the traditional medicine. There are conflicting
perspectives among healthcare professional regarding the use of CAM in mainstream health setting.
CAM therapies have been progressively emerged in conventional medicine. Thus, it is important for
nurses to understand it uses and safety measure in order to provide the effective nursing care.
Chang, H., Chang, H., (2015). A review of nurses knowledge, attitudes, and ability to communicate
the risks and benefits of complementary and alternative medicine. Journal of Clinical Nursing, 24(11

This journal article is a critical review of published research studies which consider the nurses use,
attitude, and knowledge regarding complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) and their
competency in playing their roles as a nurse in this practice. This article finds that nurses have interest
and positive attitude toward CAM; however, their knowledge regarding the safety and effectiveness of
CAM remain limited. Findings from this study suggest that nurses need to increase their
understanding about CAM in order to provide an effective teaching and accurate information to
patients. This article is credible and significant in demonstrating the fact that further education is
needed for nurses in CAM practice.

Project Management Strategy
Introduction Project Management is all about managing your tasks and goals with the best use of
available resources within a fixed frame of time. To achieve the fixed time, the project manager would
need the proper coordination of all possible inputs required to carry out the task successfully. One of
such inputs is the project management maturity model which allows for improvement of project
management processes and systems (Crawford, 2006). Project management maturity is the progressive
development of an enterprise wide project management approach, methodology, strategy, and decision
making process. The appropriate level of maturity will vary for each organization based on specific

Such positioning is possible with strategic management because this process improves preparedness
for unexpected internal or competitive demands. Therefore, an organizational strategy is an all
encompassing approach for formulating, implementing and evaluating managerial decisions in a way
that permits the business to reach its objectives. For an organizational strategy to be successful,
however, the organization should:
Clearly see the need for change
Be firmly committed to the idea of changing the business planning process
Assure that the strategic management process has credibility with everyone involved
Make sure that final plans are realistic and reflect actual resources and capabilities
Train all participants in the procedures essential to the strategic management process
Develop concise and well organized plans One of such strategy is the implementation of Six Sigma
methodology in the organization. Six Sigma is a methodology that combines the gradual and
continuous improvement with radical redesign. The process of Six Sigma begins by measuring the
statistical variability within a process. This means that the causes of error can only be determined if
you understand the critical requirement of either the internal or external customer. Six Sigma
processes are designed to reduce process variability. Six Sigma helps the organization to achieve

Examples Of Existentialism In The Goldfinch
The Goldfinch is mostly a work on existentialism. The main character, Theo Decker, is taken from his
happy life in New York with his mother, to his destructive life in Las Vegas with his father. After his
mother died his life starts his destructive path down mostly existentialism. For the most part the book
is a work of existentialism, except for a few key details for existentialism. People are not based on pre
judged thing out of the characters control. A prime example of this is when Boris started to date a girl
he meet, Theo makes a lot of comments showing his dislike for her.
One of the details that is the book s best example of existentialism is, Life is Random . Theo s life is
random right from the moment he nearly misses getting killed at the museum. His mother gets killed,
his father takes him in, he meets boris who is his bad influence, and his father only cares about money;
just some of the random things in his life. A quote from Theo best explains his thoughts on his random

Invasion Of Privacy
Say Cheese Surveillance cameras are found in places all around the globe. As these cameras become
more popular, people have become concerned with their own privacy. Some common locations of
these cameras are in stores, restaurants, on streets, and in home security systems. When a crime is
committed, there can be verbal evidence provided by bystanders, but there is not more absolute proof
than the proof that is provided by these cameras. Even though some people argue that surveillance
cameras are an invasion of privacy, they definitely do more help than harm.
In 1986, the Electronic Communications Privacy Act was passed. This gave law enforcement the
power to use video surveillance technology. Ever since this was passed, surveillance cameras have
saved many lives and helped solve many crimes. One example of this is the bombing of the world
trade center. After the event, the FBI was able to use video surveillance to collect the evidence that
was needed to convict someone who was involved in the heinous crime. It is possible that if not for

How Does John Proctor Show Greed In The Crucible
Greed: the intense and selfish desire for something, greed is something that can control someone s
actions or personality. In the story The Crucibles Rev Parris let his greed take over his mind and other
choices during this period of time. Rev Parris was a merchant before he became a minister and it was
obvious that he still had a love for money. Instead of worrying and caring for his daughter who was
sick he was arguing with his members about his ministers salary . John Proctor didn t have much
respect for Rev Parris because when Parris came to Salem he wanted golden candlesticks instead of
the perfectly good ones they had. For twenty weeks he preached nothing but golden candlesticks until
he got them. Another example of Rev Parris s greed was when Abigail and Mary Warren stole Parris s
money from his strongbox, he seemed more worried about losing all of his money then his Abigail his
niece. When a man can forget his daughters sickness to argue his salary or use the podium to preach

How Christianity Interects with Other Religions Essay
In our globalized world we live in today, people are getting more and more connected in all aspects of
life. The internet enables us to exchange thoughts and ideas with people from different continents.
From a Christian point of view, this globalization process also brings different religions closer
together. The issue we are discussing in class is how Christianity interacts with other religions. On the
following pages, I will take a closer look at Christianity and their encounter with Animism, Hinduism
and Buddhism. By examining the following questions, one should have a better idea how these
religions are really defined: Who or what is God, how does life after death look like, and how do these
religions define evil?
To begin with, when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another religion explains God as cowardly, parting from the earth after a confrontation with angry
humans. Some African religions refer to this High God as a superior creator who abandoned the
universe and passed all divine power and responsibility onto the earthly spirits.
In Animistic cultures, life after death plays an important role as well. It accepts death as a rite of
passage into the spiritual realm. The animistic view of life and death are so delicately intertwined that
neither life stage is truly separate from the other; merely two sides of the same coin. For this reason,
there is generally little or no distinction between a god and an ancestor s spirit. Their spiritual duties
and influences are indivisible, as gods are present among the ancestors, spirits, and humans. Sacrifices
are usually made in the ancestor s honor in order to keep peace, wealth, and health in good relations.
Although there is no specific, universal doctrine for the Animistic culture, there are some common
beliefs concerning the afterlife. Because Animism is centered around the concept of an interrelated
spiritual and non spiritual world, Animistic cultures believe that the spirits of those who die continue
to live. Not only does the Animistic culture believe in the continuation of spiritual life after death, but
they also believe in reincarnation. Aside from the

However, this information does suggest to the public that we are getting closer and closer to
discovering other earth like planets. We can t be alone
The science community is getting very close to discovering earth like planets and extraterrestrial life
in outer space. This is considered a valued assumption among many researchers and astronomers. To
date, they have actually discovered more than 800 of these exoplanets amongst the billions and
billions of stars in our galaxy. The more planets found like HD40307g, the more they resemble earth
with earth like characteristics (the spinning on its axis, having a night and a day, and orbiting in the

Essay on Thomas Malthus and the Principle of Population
1. Introduction
This essay deals with Thomas Malthus and the first two chapters of his Essay on the Principle of
Population . At first I will provide a short biographical note on Malthus and I will also mention his
main achievements. Then, a summary of Malthus main ideas of the first two chapters of mentioned
work follows. Afterward, the essay concludes with a personal note.
2. A short biography
Thomas Robert Malthus was born in 1766 (course textbook, n. d.) in Surrey, England, as the sixth son
of a wealthy intellectual family and he died in 1834 (Weikard, n. d.).
He was mainly concerned with population growth and poverty in the English society of his time. It
was an answer to the precarious human situation back then. Malthus ... Show more content on

This also puts a limit on the amount of procreation possible, but however, all species strive to surpass
these limitations (Malthus, p. 2). In this aspect, human beings are not any different from plants or
animals, but in contrast to them they do not only act out of instinct. Additionally, they use their
reasoning to determine whether they will be able to care sufficiently for their children (Malthus, p. 2).
Malthus states that there are certain checks on population and points out that there is no society
without any check applied. An unchecked population increases in a geometrical ratio, what means that
it doubles itself every twenty five years. Instead, the available food does not increase geometrically,
but gradually diminishes, because of the limited amount of fertile land. In contrast to the population,
the agricultural production, under favourable circumstances, is able to only increase in an arithmetical
ratio (Malthus, p. 6). A gap between population growth and the amount of food available rises. As a
result, to further increase the food supply, it is necessary to improve the quality of the soil (Malthus, p.
4). Malthus points out that there is still land which is not cultivated, even in Europe, and that
especially in this region it is possible to enhance the soil quality due to the progress of the
industrialization, but it will be gradually diminishing (Malthus, p.

Comparing The Rocky Horror Picture Show And Naked Lunch
Chinmay Kalluraya PID: A13623530 In this essay, I aim to compare two films: The Rocky Horror
Picture Show and Naked Lunch. I will begin by describing the gist of both stories and shed some light
about their past productions, followed by illustrating The Rocky Horror Picture Show s appeal on
theater, and using examples in the story, its setting and characters, put forth reasons why it would be
better as a theater production as compared to its film version. Next, I will elaborate key attributes that
make Naked Lunch a success on screen as compared to a theater production.
The two films are distinct in every way, with The Rocky Horror Picture Show originally being a 1973
stage production written by Richard O Brien that was adapted ... Show more content on

Regular patrons have the lines committed to memory, and yell back lines during extended pauses
taken by the actors. For example, when Dr. Frank N Furter deliberately extends the word anticipation
during the song Sweet Transvestite , the audiences are prepared to yell Say it! . The audience also has
opportunities to use their props, for instance during the wedding scene in the very beginning, the
audience sprinkles rice on the newlywed couple. After the wedding scene, on the ringing of the bells,
the audience blow bubbles while Brad and Janet have a romantic conversation. Other examples
include covering their heads with newspapers and spraying water using squirt guns on Brad and Janet
during the re enacting of the stormy night, wearing gloves as Dr. Frank wears his while revealing the
story of Rocky s creation and wearing party hats during the guest dinner. The yelling of particular
lines and use of props varies from production to production, but these are classic examples of breaking
the fourth wall, i.e. the imaginary wall between audiences and stage actors. People looking for a
cathartic release enjoy shouting lines as the play unfolds. The on screen version does not facilitate
such interaction between the performers and the viewers.
Another strong reason for a predisposition towards the stage production is the character of The
Criminologist, who

English As A Symbol Of Power And High Social Status
INTRODUCTION
Education is a nation building and globally inter related activity that unlocks the door to
modernization. It is imparted through formal, informal and non formal ways. For this purpose, there is
a need of interaction among the students, teachers and study material. Usually, educational system at
the primary level follows the medium of instructions in the mother tongue. But at the secondary level,
the students are required to learn one or two unfamiliar languages i.e. English and Urdu. In Pakistan,
the students have to study English as a compulsory subject from K.G to graduation level due to the
following reasons:
i. English is a mean of understanding the foreign and higher educational work. ii. English is an
international language used in research, commerce, aviation, diplomacy and source of scientific and
technological advancement. iii. English is a symbol of power and high social status. (Rehman, 2004)
Language is no doubt an essential part of human life. It is used as a means of communication.
Language has been defined in many ways. Some of these are as a language is a system of arbitrary
vocal symbols by means of which a social group operates (Pahuja, 1994). With the arrival of British in
the sub continent, English replaced the languages of learning and education such as Arabic, Persian
and Sanskrit. A turning point in the socio political history of the sub continent was Lord Macaulay s
decision in 1835 to favour English and bring an end to the

Client Goal
Research reveals that self esteem is the most consistent predictor of the likelihood and extent of
substance abuse (Uba et al., 2013). The client is a 15 year old female who was court ordered to
Inspirations for Youth and Families treatment center. Client was arrested for shop lifting but was also
charged with the possession of Heroin. For the past couple weeks, the client presented with low self
esteem of self that may have played a role in her poor choice in substance abuse. On top of Detox and
group therapy, the client will receive Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in hopes to improve self esteem to
alter the substance abuse behavior.
Single Subject Evaluation
The author used an ABAB design with the client. The ABAB design represents an effort to measure a
baseline, a treatment measurement, the withdrawal of treatment, and the re introduction of treatment.
The author chose the design because it involves two parts including gathering of baseline information,
the application of a treatment and measurement of the effects of the treatment; and of what happens
when the treatment is removed and then again applying the treatment and measuring the change. With
the amount of time allowed, the ABAB design worked best.
Measurement Tool The Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale (RSS) was used to measure the clients level of
self esteem. The RSS is a 10 item scale that measures self worth by evaluating both positive and
negative feelings about the self. The scale is believed to be one

From The Bluest Eye By Toni Morrison
In Toni Morrison s From the Bluest Eye, she writes about a girl who is in conflict with the societal
norms of the time period. The girl was given dolls to play with, but she does not understand why she
has to play with them and what makes the dolls beautiful. It is made clear that the girl never wanted
dolls and nobody ever asked her what she wanted as a toy, yet the society she lives in tells her that
girls play with dolls and nothing else. This story raises several interesting ideas, such as why were
dolls made and why does society want girls to play with dolls? A larger question that the story raises is
whether or not there is negative or positive effects on girls who play with dolls. Dolls have been
around for a long time, but no one knows how dolls were created or their main purpose. Some
research found that Barbie were created for various reasons. In addition, dolls also started many
controversies among parents and scientists. There have been various studies conducted concerning the
role of dolls on various aspects of a girl s life. Some of the studies conducted focused on girls playing
with various types of dolls and how the dolls affected their self esteem and body image. Other studies
conducted focused on young girls playing with dolls and how the dolls affected girls as they got older.

Desdemona As An Outsider In Shakespeare s Othello
In William Shakespeare s Othello, Othello himself is seen as the obvious outsider because of his race.
However, his own wife Desdemona can be reasoned to be just as much of an outcast, even though she
s described as the perfect woman. She affected the actions and feelings of other characters by being
young, innocent and easily manipulated, and by being so visually striking. Desdemona s mindset is
easily swayed and by the other characters, showing how young and inexperienced she is with living as
someone s wife. Her being so innocent and good hearted to the other characters seemed good at first
but it was ultimately her downfall, as her being the way helped Iago s plan go smoother. This is seen
when she whole heartedly helps Cassio with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Roderigo is completely in love with her just based on her looks. Iago mentions this mentions this
himself when he tells Roderigo: It is merely a lust of the blood and a permission of the will. Come, be
a man (1.3.377 378) Even the other characters can see that Roderigo s infatuation with Desdemona is
all in his head, as he does not speak to her at all throughout the play, nor does he ever mention her
personality as what attracts him to her. Even though Desdemona denied that there was anything
between her and Cassio in the play, Cassio was much more gentlemanly to her than he was to anything
female character. One can see how highly he thinks of her when he states: She s a most exquisite
lady... Indeed she s a most fresh and delicate creature ( 2.3.20 22). Then he goes on to say: An inviting
eye, and yet methinks right modest... She is indeed perfection. (2.3.26 29). Here it is seen that after
greeting Desdemona when she arrives at Cyprus, he describes her as the perfect woman, when he didn
t extend to Emilia the same courtesy. Iago himself is written to seem as if he hates women, but even he
admits to himself how beautiful Desdemona is, as seen: Now, I do love her too, Not out of absolute
lust though peradventure I stand accountant for as great a sin But partly led to diet my revenge, For
that I do suspect the lusty Moor Hath leaped into my seat. The thought whereof Doth, like a poisonous
mineral, gnaw my inwards, And nothing can or shall content my soul Till I am evened with him, wife
for wife (2.1.313 321). As he felt this way about Desdemona, she heightened his jealousy since Iago
thought Othello had both Desdemona and Emilia. Desdemona influenced others just because she was
visually so strikingly different than the other

Political And Social Contract Theory By Thomas Hobbes
Social contract theory refers to the view that peoples political and moral obligations are contingent on
an agreement or contact among them to constitute a wholesome society where they can live in
harmony. It is often associated with contemporary political and moral theory and was given the first
comprehensive exposition by Thomas Hobbes. Hobbes was fearful of man s violent and lawless
nature, perhaps due to his experience during the Puritan revolution. He was of the conviction that self
preservation was man s most imperative instinct. Having the capacity to kill each other meant humans
would be in a perpetual state of insecurity. As a solution to this insufferable situation, and in the
pursuit of peace and security, rational men would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Revolution involved the ousting of the French Monarchy at a time when the French social
structure was changing towards giving political rights to lower classes. Burke was opposed to this
kind of equality, terming it a departure from ancient course (Burke 101). Burke emphasized the
significance of tradition since it had constituted the system of governance for millennia. He argued
that mutiny only caused instability and ruin to the country. Similar to Burke, Hobbes would have
opposed the French Revolution because it debased the social contract between the sovereign and the
people. It appears that Burke relied on Hobbesian Commonwealth in formulating his outlook of the
society.
Burke s opposition to the French Revolution is a reflection of the connection between his views and
Hobbes Leviathan regarding how to organize and rule a society to maintain peace and security. In his
view of the Revolution, Burke argues that the system that had been in place prior to the mutiny was
the outcome of profound reflection. In other words, sovereigns had used the same laws to govern, and
France remained peaceful throughout the period. Burke emphasizes that the revolution left indelible
scars on the France s social fabric and occasioned undisguised calamities at a higher price than any
nation has purchased (Burke 54). Starting with the raiding of Bastille, the

Rice Paddies And Bologn Malcom Gladwell s Broad...
Rice Paddies and Bologna: Gladwell s Broad Generalizations of Success
In Malcom Gladwell s Outliers, Gladwell defines success as hidden advantages and social
predestination as stated by critic Michiko Kakutani. Kakutani argues that Gladwell s hypotheses are
not cohesive and are selective to support his idea. I concur with Kakutani. Gladwell does not provide
adequate examples and counterarguments to give his theory a concrete foundation. This creates a very
unconvincing argument. Gladwell asserts that success comes from factors and advantages that are
mostly overlooked such as birth dates and cultural backgrounds; however, his ideas are loosely based,
overly generalized, and unreliable.
Now, with technology advancing at the same rate as society matures and changes, success is a concept
that can be different to many different groups of people. Gladwell insists that success is formulated
through a series of hidden advantages and cultural legacies that are fixed, therefore that s why many
do not become successful. I simply do not feel that is the case. Success is achieved through ambition
and hard work that is instilled in you. Anyone has the power to take matters into their own hands and
create their own success.
Gladwell used many anecdotes and stories to push his hypotheses. An example would be the two
chapters titled The Trouble with Geniuses Part One and The Trouble With Geniuses Part Two . In
these chapters, Gladwell introduces Chris Langan, a man with an IQ higher

Research Paper On Smartphone Addiction
Phone Addictions The smartphone is a poisonous thing we have in this world. People find what it can
really do to you in everyday life. As technology grows into days time the phobia gets worse everyday,
apps consuming people s social life or even just their life. The effects on students and adults are
unbelievable stats. Nomophia is a disease that makes you addicted to your mobile phone. As the
technology grows in the community people get more attached to their phones. The key reason for this
is that smartphones have become central in communication and are perceived necessary to own in
order to stay in touch with others, (Tran). The technology has grown tremendously throughout the
2,000, and this just helps nomophia. The More the phone does the more addicted people get to their
mobile device. When you think of addictions you might think of drugs, and alcohol, even though this
disorder is not bad as drugs or alcohol it is still an addiction. On the phone people can now start to
gamble, and do other bad things. The phone addiction started leading to the effects of how people
sleep and how they fill in the morning. Zarin Rahman, 17, became interested in sleep and cell phone
use through personal experience, (Brookshire). The scientist that are observing people about phones at
night discovered that the next morning the people woke up were struggling throughout the day. Most
people that stay up late are usually staying on there phones. That is just some of the effects.

The Distribution And Mobilization Of A Groundwater Aquifer
Geochemistry plays an important role the distribution and mobilization of As in groundwater aquifer.
To find the influence of geochemical processes of As mobilization in groundwater of the study area,
the correlation matrix among As and various physio chemical parameter are given in Table 4. Pearson
correlation matrices show that various physio chemical parameters pairs of groundwater samples have
a significant positive correlations such as TDS EC (r = 1.000), TDS Na (r = 0.587), TDS Ca (r =
0.624), EC Na (r = 0.617), EC Ca (r = 0.618), Na Ca (r = 0.564), and K Mn (r = 0.566) respectively.
Similarly some pairs have also shown significant negative correlation such as Mg2+ HCO3 (r =

Analysis Of The Movie Copycat
Analysis of Copycat (1995) In the movie Copycat from 1995 there is a character named Helen Hudson
(Sigourney Weaver) who is a psychiatrist that studies the behavior of serial killers. At the beginning of
the film she is giving a lecture at the University of San Francisco and at the end of the lecture, Daryll

gets locked up in prison. Thirteen months later, Helen suffers from panic attacks and agoraphobia
which have resulted from her Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. She has been housebound for months
now and has a homosexual assistant named Andy (John Rothman). Darryl Lee is in contact with
William McNamara, another psychopath who wants to follow in Darryl Lee s footsteps and become
famous. So Darryl Lee tells William to continue his work of killing Helen. He does this by copying
other serial killer signatures such as John Wayne Gacy, the Boston strangler, and Son of Sam etc.
Three murders have occurred and Helen notices through newspapers that each murder seems to be
done by one person. Therefore, she calls the police to leave an anonymous tip and they mock her and
brush her off as a prank call. However, Officer M.J. Monaham (Holly Hunter) becomes curious and
starts to think that Helen would be able to add to the investigation. So she obtains the case files and

Uncontacted Tribe Essay
Uncontacted tribes should be left alone to continue what they have been doing for the past thousands

the outside world. They are being introduced to new dangers that have wiped out entire tribes at once.
The tribes face these dangers: the diseases brought to them by the people of the outside world, the
government and loggers wanting to drive through their lands and destroy their home, and the fears of
the people who don t care if they all end up dead.

The loggers are an immediate threat because they could come through and destroy their homes in an

tribes need the government to not make budget cuts and to make laws to keep the loggers out of their

By the same token, uncontacted tribes have to fear the cartels coming through and wiping them out.
The drug cartels who are running throughout Peru and Brazil, don t care about killing the tribesman.
The tribes people can t leave their village because it s even more of a risk than just staying in their

  • 3. Drew Struzan Analysis I had seen Drew Struzan s artwork my entire life without ever realizing it. The iconic movie posters, that commonly are displayed on the front of the movie cover, are easily recognized by most Americans. Classic movies, such as Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, Harry Potter, Hook, and Star Wars have all had their covers graced by the iconic art of Drew Struzan. I was struck in awe as I came to the realization that someone had actually drawn all of these realistic images that had been a part of my entire life. I had never thought about who made all of the drawings to fill up promotional posters, or even who may have designed the movie itself. As I watched clips of him drawing the posters, I was amazed at his ability to bring the characters ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Taste And Vision By Ackerman Ackerman s writing on taste and vision is a very entertaining essay. The writing was easy to follow and was written on an interesting topic, which everyone can relate to. The most entertaining and informative parts were food and vision. I learned a great deal in that section and was entertaining to learn how food and vision are so closely related. For example all the different types of foods that are considered aphrodisiacs. Another entertaining section was the part about food and its history. How the Egyptians thought very highly of the onion and swore upon it as we do the bible. Overall this was a good essay it flowed nicely and was really easy to follow along. The following are the topics I chose to discuss concerning taste and vision Losing ... By witnessing her vivid descriptions and scrupulous attention to detail, she has shown me a better way to write more concisely and accurately. Also, her tone throughout the novel keeps things light and interesting, and when added to her dramatic portrayals of the five senses makes for a very entertaining ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Review Of What Women Can Learn From Men By Margaret Wente A Review of What Women Can Learn From Men By Margaret Wente Margaret Wente s July 2015 Globe and Mail article, What Women Can Learn From Men addresses a common phenomenon, the comparison: between men and women. With her article, she hopes to advise women on how they can improve themselves and their lives with simple changes. Furthermore, she wisely chooses to avoid a sexist approach by commending men on their behavioral traits despite her gender. Infact, using logical implications, she portrayed herself as an example rather than offend her audience. Additionally, through evidence, figures, facts and a link, she skillfully supports her theories thus making her article significantly factual and effective. Although Margaret starts by stereotypically generalising men, she depicts some of their great qualities that women can truly learn from. Using different approaches, she portrays women and their thoughts then skillfully explains how they can better themselves by thinking like men. Despite how she initially condemned men, she concludes by logically beseeching that man shaming has gone far enough and should stop. Despite being an article in the extensively read Canadian newspaper the Globe and mail , Margaret s target audience is the broad female population. She therefore uses a different approach, one with less specialized language, as was stated in Mind Wide Open. The purpose is quite clear: she portrays women s behavioral traits and their thoughts then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Andy Warhol 32 Soup Cans Analysis Andy Warhol s thirty two canvases titled 32 Soup Cans was created in 1962. This renowned American Pop Artist, known for his repeating reproductions and gaudy colors, produced this piece using the printmaking method. Warhol didn t want his paintings of mass produced commercial goods to be conceptually stimulating. He wanted to make his work relatable so that viewers could approach them and have a clear interpretation. Warhol replicated the appearance of manufactured objects and famous icons for the sake of expressing his view on modern culture in a manner that had nothing to do with personality or individual expression. According to Eric Shanes in his book titled Warhol, Warhol s 32 Soup Cans were initially displayed in a single line around the gallery walls. The original display maximized the repetitiousness of the imagery. The display was so spatially extended, and ultimately projected the fearsome notion that the whole universe was filled with Campbell s soup. Shane points out that Warhol developed the notion of taking an image familiar to millions and presenting it frontally, without painterly qualities, and with a flat surround (as though it was some kind of holy icon) (Shanes, 52). Shanes points out that Warhol formed an alliance between abstract expressionist paint handling and popular cultural imagery. Shanes also notes that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 12. Analysis Of A Crucible Of Reform Movement Abbi Sullins Mrs. Nix AP US History 2 October 2017 Born to Create Change Louisa May Alcott was in every way born to become a reformist. It is even said that [a]s an adult, Louisa May sometimes signed her letters, Yours for reforms of all kinds (Concord Women Cast First Votes). Growing up in early nineteenth century Massachusetts, a crucible of reform movements, to parents who were both incredibly dedicated to reformation, she was exposed to many different reform movements throughout the entirety of her life. These men would look out for Louisa and her three sisters, keeping the girls from going hungry and cold in the harsh New England winters. The men s kindness and direct influence on Louisa as she grew up would add to the influence reform movements had on Louisa May Alcott. Abby Alcott, Louisa s mother, was a highly educated young woman, rare for her time, but like her husband, made poor decisions that would ultimately hurt the family s well being severely. Abby worked as a nurse for families living in poverty, who could not afford health care from paid doctors. However, Mrs. Alcott was very careless about her nursing and never bothered to ask what she was treating. Her carelessness caused her to bring home smallpox and scarlet fever to her husband and four daughters. • 14. A Modern Day Form Of Slavery Essay Literature Review While DMST is considered to be a modern day form of slavery, history has recorded that the sexual exploitation of children has been practiced in America since its colonization. While slavery was abolished in the 19th century, it did not dissipate completely and it wasn t until the beginning of the 20th century that the issue of child sex trafficking began to receive significant attention. This was in part due to the Trafficking Victim s Protection Act (TVPA) that was passed in 2000 which protected victims of trafficking by enhancing criminal penalties under the law as well as made benefits and services to victims available (TVPA, 2000). Since the act s establishment, the TVPA has been amended 4 times in order to grow with the changing attitudes, policies, and approaches to best combat human trafficking (DeCeoursty, 2016). The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 refueled the United States dedication to sex trafficking by declaring DMST as a threat to national security which transformed the way human trafficking should be approached (DeCeoursty, 2016). The post 911 environment embraced a crime control approach by focusing more on combating organized crime activity instead of the issue of human rights and the recognition of victimization (DeCeoursty, 2016). Some African religions refer to this High God as a superior creator who abandoned the universe and passed all divine power and responsibility onto the earthly spirits. The animistic view of life and death are so delicately intertwined that neither life stage is truly separate from the other; merely two sides of the same coin. For this reason, there is generally little or no distinction between a god and an ancestor s spirit. Additionally, they use their reasoning to determine whether they will be able to care sufficiently for their children (Malthus, p. 2). Malthus states that there are certain checks on population and points out that there is no society without any check applied. An unchecked population increases in a geometrical ratio, what means that it doubles itself every twenty five years. Instead, the available food does not increase geometrically, but gradually diminishes, because of the limited amount of fertile land. In contrast to the population, the agricultural production, under favourable circumstances, is able to only increase in an arithmetical ratio (Malthus, p. 6). A gap between population growth and the amount of food available rises. As a result, to further increase the food supply, it is necessary to improve the quality of the soil (Malthus, p. 4). Malthus points out that there is still land which is not cultivated, even in Europe, and that especially in this region it is possible to enhance the soil quality due to the progress of the industrialization, but it will be gradually diminishing (Malthus, p. ... Similar to Burke, Hobbes would have opposed the French Revolution because it debased the social contract between the sovereign and the people. It appears that Burke relied on Hobbesian Commonwealth in formulating his outlook of the society. Burke s opposition to the French Revolution is a reflection of the connection between his views and Hobbes Leviathan regarding how to organize and rule a society to maintain peace and security. In his view of the Revolution, Burke argues that the system that had been in place prior to the mutiny was the outcome of profound reflection. In other words, sovereigns had used the same laws to govern, and France remained peaceful throughout the period. Burke emphasizes that the revolution left indelible scars on the France s social fabric and occasioned undisguised calamities at a higher price than any nation has purchased (Burke 54). • 33. Rice Paddies And Bologn Malcom Gladwell s Broad... Rice Paddies and Bologna: Gladwell s Broad Generalizations of Success In Malcom Gladwell s Outliers, Gladwell defines success as hidden advantages and social predestination as stated by critic Michiko Kakutani. Kakutani argues that Gladwell s hypotheses are not cohesive and are selective to support his idea. I concur with Kakutani. Gladwell does not provide adequate examples and counterarguments to give his theory a concrete foundation. This creates a very unconvincing argument. Gladwell asserts that success comes from factors and advantages that are mostly overlooked such as birth dates and cultural backgrounds; however, his ideas are loosely based, overly generalized, and unreliable. Now, with technology advancing at the same rate as society matures and changes, success is a concept that can be different to many different groups of people. Gladwell insists that success is formulated through a series of hidden advantages and cultural legacies that are fixed, therefore that s why many do not become successful. I simply do not feel that is the case. Success is achieved through ambition and hard work that is instilled in you. Anyone has the power to take matters into their own hands and create their own success. Gladwell used many anecdotes and stories to push his hypotheses. An example would be the two chapters titled The Trouble with Geniuses Part One and The Trouble With Geniuses Part Two . In these chapters, Gladwell introduces Chris Langan, a man with an IQ higher ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. The Distribution And Mobilization Of A Groundwater Aquifer Geochemistry plays an important role the distribution and mobilization of As in groundwater aquifer. To find the influence of geochemical processes of As mobilization in groundwater of the study area, the correlation matrix among As and various physio chemical parameter are given in Table 4. Pearson correlation matrices show that various physio chemical parameters pairs of groundwater samples have a significant positive correlations such as TDS EC (r = 1.000), TDS Na (r = 0.587), TDS Ca (r = 0.624), EC Na (r = 0.617), EC Ca (r = 0.618), Na Ca (r = 0.564), and K Mn (r = 0.566) respectively. Similarly some pairs have also shown significant negative correlation such as Mg2+ HCO3 (r = 0.590), well depth Mn (r = 0.518). The concentration of As in groundwater has insignificantly negative correlated to Fe (r= 0.260), Cl (r= 0.081) and SO42 (r= 0.062), while As has insignificantly positive correlated to Mn (r=0.185), NO3 ( r=0.111), HCO3 (r=1777), pH (r=0.226), Na+ (r=0.223), K+ (r=0.227), Ca2+ (r=0.262) and Mg2+ (r=0.199). In this study, an insignificant positive correlation between As and Mn has observed, while an insignificant negative correlation between As and Fe has existed in groundwater aquifer (Table 4). This finding is in good agreement with the earlier correlation matrix analysis of arsenic by Ohno et al. (2005) and Reza and Jean (2012) in the fine grained core sediment samples in northwestern Nawabganj district, Bangladesh where they reported no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Uncontacted Tribe Essay Uncontacted tribes should be left alone to continue what they have been doing for the past thousands of years. The tribes have flourished for a very long time, except for when they come in contact with the outside world. They are being introduced to new dangers that have wiped out entire tribes at once. The tribes face these dangers: the diseases brought to them by the people of the outside world, the government and loggers wanting to drive through their lands and destroy their home, and the fears of the people who don t care if they all end up dead. In the first place, the uncontacted tribes are facing new diseases that are being brought to them. A tribe in Brazil, which was flourishing with many people in it, was nearly wiped out with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The loggers are an immediate threat because they could come through and destroy their homes in an instant, but the other fear is the Congress. With them wanting to make budget cuts on protecting these tribes, would mean that they aren t really protected by the government anymore. Provided that, the tribes need the government to not make budget cuts and to make laws to keep the loggers out of their land. If this doesn t happen, these indigenous tribes will slowly be lost in the past. By the same token, uncontacted tribes have to fear the cartels coming through and wiping them out. The drug cartels who are running throughout Peru and Brazil, don t care about killing the tribesman. The tribes people can t leave their village because it s even more of a risk than just staying in their home. Fear is driving some of them out as well though in these cases they present themselves openly and seek help. Drug runners throughout Peru and Brazil think nothing of killing tribal people who get in their way (Kluger). The people in the tribe also have tried to keep the outsiders out of their territory but not putting them in harm s way. The people fired arrows at the helicopter. They re messages. Those arrows mean leave us in peace, do not disturb (Vaughan). The people in theses tribes have really no option anymore on what to do. They can leave and face the outside world and the humans out there, or they can stay in their homes and try to defend themselves when the cartels come ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
