Black Power Speech Summary
Stokely Carmichael gave his most famous speech on the campus of the University of California at
Berkeley in 1966. His speech, Black Power, addresses the issue of black racism in America and gives
strategies for advancing black civil rights. His use of ethos, logos, and pathos is successful in getting
the audience to engage and connect with his speech. With blacks already on his side, Carmichael
chose to deliver his message to an audience filled with white, liberal college students to reach out to
more broad demographics. The element of pathos was used in the very beginning of his speech to
humor the young audience by referring to the Berkeley students as White intellectual ghettos of the
West (1). He continues his humor by calling the news reporters advertisers who are ... caught up in the
intellectual masturbation of the question of Black Power (1). The element of ethos is brought up in the
beginning of the speech when Carmichael talks about condemning oneself. He references that the
philosophers Camus and Sartre raise the question whether or not a man can condemn himself. The
black existentialist philosopher who is pragmatic, Frantz Fanon, answered the question. He said that
man could not (1). In order for a man to condemn himself, he would have to blame himself for his
actions, sentencing himself to a punishment. Carmichael states multiple different incidents in
American history and America s present where a man could not condemn himself, but the most

Overpopulation Is A Global Catastrophe
Naturally, as our population grows in size our growth rate increases exponentially. As a result, we face
the issue of overpopulation, one of the many dangerous trends discussed in Anthony Barnosky and
Elizabeth Hadly s Tipping Point for Planet Earth. Currently, if we do not make any changes, it is
expected that we will reach a population size over twenty seven billion people by the year 2100.
Along with this massive increase in population size, we will also face a rise in food and water
shortages, an increase in population density, and an overall loss of quality of life. In order to prevent
these potential effects, Barnosky and Hadly suggested three possible solutions to combating
overpopulation a global catastrophe, a one child policy, or an increase in education, job, and
contraception availability among girls. Any one of these solutions will potentially help us prevent
overpopulation; however, exactly which solution it ends up being all depends on our preparation and
the actions we take now. Ideally, we would like to avoid a global catastrophe that would decimate the
population. But, if we are unable to lower our growth rate another world war, or something like a
pandemic could occur. While no correlation between population density and nation level conflict has
been made, the connection between overcrowding and increased internal conflict has been (Tir 1998).
Thus, it would be preferable to take advantage of the other solutions like the one child policy that

Blood Movie Essay
The blood film and the background information considering their recent travel to Nigeria leads us to
believe this infection present in this patient is a form of malaria. The blood film provided for the
patient shows some morphological changes to erythrocytes as well as the malarial parasite which is
present.
Malaria is a vector borne infectious disease which contains 5 subspecies, of which Plasmodium ovale
is the most likely culprit in this case study. The species of malaria can be distinguished between by
thin blood films and analysing haematological abnormalities present, such as in plasmodium
falciparum infection no change occurs to erythrocyte shape and size whereas in P. ovale infection
erythrocytes are usually slightly enlarged, frequently an oval shape and often have fimbriated edges

Thrombocytopenia is commonly associated with leukaemia patients due to the dysfunctional bone
marrow and can result in easy bruising as their blood vessels when damaged will bleed however due
to the decreased platelet level they are unable to clot the bleeding and thus leads to bruising. The
patient s other symptom of severe malaise may also be linked to the leukaemia and anaemia, due to
the high proliferative rate of lymphoblasts in acute leukaemia, this can lead to less space for
erythrocyte development which causes normocytic anaemia commonly seen in patients with
leukaemia (Moore, Knight and Blann, 2016).
Leukaemias are disorders which are characterised by accumulation of white blood cells in bone
marrow or in blood. This is a result of haematopoiesis which is the mechanism of action for
production of blood cells from a progenitor however in the case of leukaemia an uncontrolled
proliferation occurs which is responsible for the sheer volume of leucocytes present in peripheral

The Effects of Sport on Levels of Mindfulness and...
The area of research that will be of focal concern is conscious awareness in relation to the concept of
mindfulness . In addition to this, analogous research surrounding the topic area will be integrated, with
particular attention being paid to an important aspect of sport psychology known as flow .
Mindfulness has its roots in ancient spiritual traditions, namely Buddhism (Keng, Smoski, Robins,
2011), and is commonly defined as the awareness that emerges through paying attention on purpose,
in the present moment, and non judgmentally to the unfolding experience moment by moment (Kabat
Zinn, 2003, p. 145). Definitions like the preceding are common in contemporary literature, however
many authors have suggested that mindfulness is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beginning with the work of Jon Kabat Zinn and the practice of mindfulness based stress reduction
(MBSR), which explored the use of mindfulness meditation in treating patients with chronic pain
(Keng, Smoski, Robins, 2011), a growing body of research concerning the cognitive behavioural
tradition emerged. Within this tradition it was assumed that cognition plays a vital role in determining
behaviour (Huss Baer, 2007), therefore, by drawing on the two components of mindfulness put forth
by Bishop et al (2004), clinicians established that the development of mindfulness skills, such as
focussed breathing (which cultivates the state of mindfulness), can lead to; increased self awareness
and self acceptance; reduced reactivity to thoughts and emotions; and improved ability to cope with
problematic situations (Linehan, 1993). In addition to this, research revealed that those who undergo
mindfulness training also experience improved ability to sustain attention in the present moment
(Marks, 2008). From a similar stance, recent studies carried out by sport psychologists provided an
indication towards a relationship between aspects of mindfulness and sporting performance, in which
theories of flow and peak performance were evidently compatible with the constructs of mindfulness
(Kaufman, Glass, Arnkoff, 2009). Csikszentmihalyi (1990; as cited in Bernier, Thienot,

Martin Luther s Reform Of The Church
The new year has begun and much has changed with respect to the state of Holy Mother Church. This
is the 100th year anniversary of Our Lady s appearance at Fatima. However, what is being emphasized
in the wondrous Vatican is the celebration of the heresiarch Luther s rebellion against the Church. The
historical revisionists and modernists in the Vatican are trying their best to transform chicken scat into
chicken salad. Luther is being touted as a reformer of the Church. Cardinal Kurt Koch stated: Luther
was pressing for a substantial reform of the Church and not a Reformation that would lead to the
disintegration of the unity of the Church. The fact that, at the time, his idea of reform was not able to
be realized is largely due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gradualism coupled with the false catechesis with regard to the nature and potency of conscience has
resulted in the current estimation that  80% of childbearing aged Catholic females practice artificial
contraception (AC). The Pew Research Center s Public Opinion on Abortion paper of 2016 states that
54% of catholics say abortion is legal is all or most cases. Most do not know that they engaged in the
practice of an intrinsic evil; the practice of AC results in the murder of babies, abortion. It can be said
that some of the practitioners of AC and those who revert to direct abortion may be subjectively
ignorant and perhaps could be without sin. The ignorance of the principles of true conscience is
directly attributed to the lack of catechesis on the part of bishops, priests and deacons who are charged
with informing the flock of those things required and necessary for

The Prediction Of Fullerene Structure
Fullerene was first recorded in a Japanese article, Kagaku, written by Eiji Osawa in 1970 which stated
the prediction on the existence of C60 compound [1]. In the following year, a conjecture on the
stability of C60 was established by Osawa and Yoshida where the aromatic characteristic of C60 was
described further. The stability was further better explained when the Hückel s calculation method was
applied and introduced to the icosahedron structure of C60 by Bochvar and Gal pern [2]. The
prediction of fullerene structure was discussed based on graphite balloon speculation made by David
Jones using pseudonym of Daedalus in a journal, The Scientist [3]. This speculation was essentially
describing the gas phase carbon cluster in the form of geodesic cages which is applied to giant
fullerenes compound [2].
Fullerenes can be described as closely packed carbon cages hold in rings of, most commonly,
hexagons and pentagons with sp2 hydridised carbons. In some larger structure with more than 100
carbons, heptagonal rings may present. A large numbered fullerene will require larger cage to obtain
the most least steric angle between the bonds and the structure might have a surface of concaved [4].
Figure 1 and Figure 2 show the cage structures of fullerenes C60 and C70. Both of these fullerenes are
the most stable fullerene with more planar and larger nearly spherical structure and have higher
thermodynamic stability with positive enthalpy change of formation, ∆H_f [4]. Figure 1:

Disgrace
Fantasy vs. Reality in J. M. Coetzee s Disgrace
J. M. Coetzee s novel Disgrace is, on the surface, the story of a wayward college professor, Dr. David
Lurie, who is aging into a disrespectful decline. But this story tells of not only the strife and
wrenching change that exist in the microcosm of Lurie s mind, but also the parallel themes that
underlie the social, political, and ethical systems that are the reality of present day South Africa. As
David Lurie interacts with people and creatures outside his normal milieu, the fault lines between his
myopic view of the world and reality begin to crystallize with a disconcerting clarity.

He doesn t care if it s good or bad, he just does it (33). All pretense gone, the committee chair states
the obvious; the shame requested of Lurie is but a fig leaf for appearance s sake. What goes on in your
soul is dark to us, as members of... a secular tribunal if not as fellow human beings (58). This open
acknowledgment that no one cares about the content or purity of Lurie s soul isolates him within
society as well as from his own notion of self. Readers, if not Lurie himself, may begin to realize that
they too are ignorant of what lies within their own souls and that this is the kernel of alienation.
Professed ignorance of the content of the soul of others is something often relied upon in societal
relations between one group and another. The relationship between Lurie and his daughter Lucy s
neighbor, Petrus, is quite symbolic of this. Petrus is a native Afrikaner who speaks in enigmatic,
inflectionless fragments. Lurie is confronted with his presence and initially thinks he is willing to be
friends, but finds the divide too great. Petrus intent is inscrutable, his soul is initially dark to Lurie,
and, though there was a time when he thought he might become friends with Petrus... now he detests
him (152). This is the state of affairs between the races in general, so eager to find their differences
irreconcilable, each so burdened with the weight of history, each perhaps unwilling to search their own
soul.

The Black Nationalist Movement During The Harlem Renaissance
Black cultural nationalism was an international, less organized extension of the Black Nationalist
movement. The movement focused on the embracing of African culture and values through various
artistic forms, including poetry, drama, and music. Emphasizing the need to embrace one s blackness,
cultural nationalism was able to gain much mainstream attention because of the prominence of many
of its members.
The earliest organized display of cultural nationalism associated with Africa began with the concept of
Négritude, which was developed by French speaking Negro intellectuals (Irele 321) that had
developed far beyond the concept of the African personality ...[and] tended more towards a philosophy

The Lasting Legacy of Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson is one of the most influential presidents of the United States. Along with his
successes and failures he proved to be a great president by leaving his legacy s behind. A legacy is
something someone has had handed down or left for future generations. Thomas Jefferson is one of
the most influential people that left their legacies behind because his presidency commenced the
quarter century rule of the Virginia Dynasty. He was also known for his hospitality towards the central
government as well as the judicial branch of the Supreme Court. In the private and public affairs
Thomas Jefferson has been a great democratic icon because he knew the peoples power and knew the

Government on earth, Jefferson told his fellow Americans in according to his first Inaugural Address
on March 4, 1801.
Thomas Jefferson was born on April 13th, 1743 in Shadwell, Virginia. As a young child Jefferson was
a very intellectual boy. Jefferson s first childhood memory was at the age of three, he took his father s
slaves in the Virginia wilderness. This was when Jefferson s family moved to a plantation that was
under the control of Thomas Jefferson s father. Thomas Jefferson and his family spent six years
wandering around the woods and studying his books. When Jefferson was the age of nine that was
when his formal studies began.

university student formed the SUBWAY, a submarine sandwich restaurant. After 30 years
development, Subway creates a sandwich empire through franchisee model and fast extent to 90

Demographic Environment

Good advertising does not just circulate information, it penetrates the public mind with desires and
belief, stated William Bill Bernbach one of the most creative advertising directors of his time.
Advertising is when a person or organisation make an announcement through the various forms of
media which is intended to influence the choices of others, whereby it attempts to inform, appeal and
persuade their targeted audience. However, countless ads enter the market that are partially ineffective
or completely ineffective and in turn can end up being detrimental to both the product and company s

It has an almost equal focus on all these elements employing a diverse range of characters and emotive
use of technological imagery. The dynamic appeal of the future , the central aspect to this ad, was
presented specifically by the modes of logos and ethos. They successfully attempted this by presenting
a varied range of people who all seemed to be intelligent and possess high authoritative abilities
created by their character s job persona, whether that be a scientist or a neurologist. These paid actors
really made the ad seem much more credible and well as appealing to the ethics of the audience
because these people have first hand experience with the product, making their recommendations of
joining a generation that s moving us forward the most reliable and trustworthy testimonial of anyone
on the market. The actors have also used the power of the product to get people on board the
bandwagon and join the widely accepted revolution before it s too late, employing tactics to build trust
in both the company and the product. In addition to this this ad has also used pathos to target their
audience by using emotional imagery and psychological metaphors. From images with parents
celebrating with their young children to ethnic and gender equal societies to successful space
launches, the ad really has an ideal of positivity, making the most out of the emotional imagery
allowing the audience to be susceptible to the lies the NBN were broadcasting. Specifically, in this ad
the NBN has tried extremely hard to elicit the emotion of hope in its viewers, attempting to instil this
via the futuristic imagery, so that audience has something to look forward to, giving them the desire

Topic Topics On Social Psychology
Topics In Social Psychology
Respectfully Submitted by Kaitlin Emmerling
As social animals, human beings interact and influence one another in profound, meaningful ways.
The ways in which we affect each other s behaviors, beliefs and attitudes is defined as social
psychology; it s study can help elucidate how and why we act, think, communicate and behave the
way we do. Topics included under the umbrella of social psychology include: the importance of
human relationships and interactions; the impact of social influences, such as group pressures and
obedience; developmental and situational considerations of prosocial and antisocial behaviors; and the
relationship between our attitudes and beliefs and our behaviors (Lilienfeld, Lynn, Namy ... Show

507). Irving Janis, a social psychologist, coined the term after studying the decisions by the Kennedy
administration that lead to the failed invasion of the Bay of Pigs in 1961. He noticed that in group
situations, group members may either ignore their own expertice and adopt the opinion of the majority
of the group or simply stay quiet and not raise objections in order to not disrupt the consensus (Cherry,
n.d.).
When dissenting opinions and critical thinking are suppressed, it is not surprising that poor decisions
can arise when groups uniformity is put first. In order to prevent such consequences, Janis suggested a
few ways to avoid falling into the groupthink trap: 1. appoint a person to play devil s advocate to
introduce differing opinions in order to force the rest of the group to consider other options and think
critically about their own beliefs; 2. allow independent experts to attend group sessions to evaluate the
decision making process; and 3. Consider holding a follow up meeting sometime in the future to allow
time for group members to consider and reconsider whether their initial decision was reasonable or not
(Lilienfeld, Lynn, Namy Woolf, 2014, p. 507 508).
Yet another social psychological subject that relates to both our behavior in group settings and
prosocial versus antisocial behavior is a

Essay about Civil Disobedience
The political concepts of justice and how a society should be governed have dominated literature
through out human history. The concept of peacefully resisting laws set by a governing force can be
first be depicted in the world of the Ancient Greeks in the works of Sophocles and actions of Socrates.
This popular idea has developed over the centuries and is commonly known today as civil
disobedience. Due to the works of Henry David Thoreau and Martin Luther King Jr. civil
disobedience is a well known political action to Americans; first in the application against slavery and
second in the application against segregation. Thoreau s essay Civil Disobedience and King s Letter
from Birmingham Jail are the leading arguments in defining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Thoreau makes that evident in the following quote from his essay: There are thousands who are in
opinion opposed to slavery... who yet in effect do nothing to put an end to [it]; who, esteeming
themselves children of Washington and Franklin, sit down with their hands in their pockets, and say
that they know not what to do, and do nothing; and even postpone the question of freedom to the
question of free trade... (Thoreau, 270). Thoreau demands civil disobedience from his fellow
countryman to correct the errors of the government in regards to slavery and the war of his time.
Thoreau defines this concept as a deed of willful resistance, obtained by disobeying the hypocritical
laws. One deed he offers his countrymen to consider as their deed of civil disobedience, is a refusal to
pay taxes. Another deed, one Thoreau highly recommends, is to avert oneself from conspiring with the
government in refusing to actively participate in it. Most importantly civil disobedience is civil.
Meaning that the resistance to the government is peaceful and non violent in it s methods. King s work
in civil disobedience seems to be in agreement with Thoreau in regarding civil disobedience as a duty
of his fellow countrymen. King demands justice for the African Americans in the civil rights
movement of the 1960s in his letter. King s famous line to call the people out to demand justice from
the government, Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere, (Schulke,

Four seventeen year old freshman at North Carolina A T University in Greensboro Franklin Mccain,

Major League Baseball Players And Coaches Essay
This incident backs up Sandoval s comments regarding netting around the dugouts because foul balls
sometimes hit players and coaches as well. In response to Mr. Coolbaugh s death, Major League
Baseball quickly enacted a rule that base coaches have to wear helmets to protect them. Although this
rule may ensure safety for coaches, fans remain unprotected from the threat of broken bats and foul
balls. Major League Baseball players also wanted extended netting at the last two collective
bargaining agreements but the idea was rejected by the owners. (SI Wire, 2015) Diamondbacks pitcher
Brad Ziegler had an interesting take on the situation, Some owners are afraid to upset the fans who
pay the high ticket prices for these seats but when in reality, this being done would protect these fans
from being fearful of their life. (SI Wire, 2015) The players couldn t be more right about the situation,
especially Ziegler. The owners of professional teams seem way too concerned about money, rather
than the protection of their fans. Patrons are seated too close to the field and stadiums are putting them
at risk by refusing to install netting around the first and third base lines. According to Bloomberg
News, there are an estimated 1,750 spectators that are injured at major league games and there are an
estimated 53,000 foul balls that enter the seats every year. (Bumbaca, 2015) This should be a huge red

I was torn between adult nursing and mental health nursing but after a fair amount of research I have

Relationship Marketing Is Different From Any Other Form Of...
Introduction
For my project I will explain what relationship marketing is. Relationship marketing is different from
any other form of marketing. The reason for this is that relationship marketing identifies the long term
value of customer relationships and relationship marketing extends communication beyond intrusive
advertising and sales promotional messages. Relationship marketing is an arrangement where both the
buyer and seller have an interest in providing a more satisfying exchange. Also I will explain what the
benefits are of relationship marketing to a business and to a customer. I also will explain the CRM
stages, segmentation, technology in relation to relationship marketing and I will do a case study. I am
looking at Boots for my case study. I will explain how Boots have managed to build valuable
relationships with its customers.
Relationship Marketing
Relationship marketing is the process of attracting, maintaining and enhancing relationships with key
individuals over time. Businesses use one on one communication to earn the loyalty of their target
audience.
One of the most expensive and difficult tasks facing any business is acquiring new customers.
Acquiring a new customer can cost five times as much as retaining an existing customer. Research has
shown that 2% increase in customer retention can decrease costs by as much as 10% for a business. To
retain current customers, businesses engage in relationship marketing strategies to continually attract

Around the same time, the Smartcard states released updated specifications and test scripts. The
X9.131 standard was adopted by the X9 committee in early 2015 and published through ANSI.
As the WIC stakeholders were doing the work necessary to prepare developers for the split tender
mandate, the credit card industry was also mandating changes in the retail world. Retailers would have
to implement all changes necessary to handle chip and PIN EMV cards prior to October 1, 2015 or
assume the liability for all fraudulent transactions where the mag stripe was swiped on an EMV
capable card. As developers scrambled to meet this deadline (of which many failed), the
implementation dates continued to slip which also delayed development efforts for the WIC benefit
reversal development. As of April 2016, many retailers can still not accept an EMV chip card.
Texas WIC was notified by Kroger on April 15, 2016 that the software delivery for split tender and
benefit reversal would be delayed until early 2017. There is concern because they will not meet the
extended deadline mandated by USDA FNS and will not be compliant with the terms of the WIC
Vendor Agreement in the Smartcard WIC states that they do business.
Texas and the other Smartcard states must now determine a course of action on how to respond to
Kroger (and others that may have similar issues but have not notified us yet). One option would be to

Research Paper On White Bears
White bears require a variety of physical characteristics to survive in the harsh environment of the
Arctic. Large, wide paws with bumps allow them to distribute weight and grip more efficiently. Water
resistant fur with a luminescent quality keep the bear warm and dry. Additionally, Sharp and powerful
teeth have the ability to penetrate hard flesh. These special features allow not only the ability to thrive
in a difficult environment, but also are important for communicating with other species and another
bear.
White Bear possesses an intelligence to utilize a unique action or sound to communicate with other
species and other bears, even though White Bear are non verbal species.

Literary Themes In True Grit
There are many themes in the novel True Grit. One thematic concept explored in the book evolves
around the concept of coming of age. The author utilizes many literary elements to convey this theme
to the reader. Some of those literary elements are symbolism, setting and character development.
One literary element the author uses is setting. True Grit takes place in the Wild West. The Wild West
setting is known to be a place with a significant amount of crime and drama, and Fort Smith is an
example of a Wild West location. Fort Smith was surely not a place for an average 14 year old girl.
Even Mattie Rosses Lawyer said this in the book. Fort Smith is no place for a young girl alone, not
even a Mattie . (Portis 78). Living in a dangerous city like Fort Smith may be impossible for an
average 14 year old girl, but not for Mattie. Mattie Ross proves him wrong and survives the dangerous
place. She built up her strength and level of maturity in the town. She sold horses for $325, watched
three people get hanged to death, lived with a random old lady and hired a Marshal, that she had never
met in her life, to help her kill Tom Chaney. Charles Portis uses the setting of the story to show us the
struggles and hardships Mattie had to go through in Fort Smith. He portrayed that a small girl that can
live in a town like Fort Smith is no match for evil bandits and murderers.
The second literary element utilized by Portis was Symbolism. Symbolism was a big concept in the
novel. There were many symbols in the book, but the ones that best portrayed the theme were the two
pieces of gold and her dads gun.
The Californian pieces of gold were a big part of the story. Mattie s grandpa gave the gold pieces to
her dad on his wedding. Ever since then Frank Ross carried those two pieces of gold symbolizing
union and happiness between him and his Family. When Chaney shot Frank, he took away the gold
pieces from him. This symbolized Chaney taking away happiness from the Ross family. Later on in
the story, Rooster found one of the pieces of gold in Quincy s pocket, symbolizing that they are on the
right track to catching Chaney and that they are almost of halfway there. The quote that shows this

Hugh Everett III Biography
Hugh Everett III was an American physicist who created the relative state formulation. I can relate to
his experience as an atheist in a predominantly religious society. Hugh Everett was born in
Washington D.C. in 1930. Everett attended St. John s College during high school, and was accepted
into The Catholic University of America for undergraduate chemical engineering. During World War
II, Everett s father was stationed in West Germany, and Everett took a year off to join him. He
graduated in 1953, and went on to attend Princeton University, where he began studying Game Theory
before switching to Physics.

This theory is what eventually went on to become the many worlds interpretation of quantum physics,
which began to gain acceptance among many physicists after his death in 1982. Everett s theory, first
conceived in his thesis paper, attempted to address the measurement problem in quantum mechanics.
That is, the lack of continuity between the behavior of objects on a microscopic scale when compared
to those on a macroscopic one. Despite the fact that quantum theory allows for the superposition of
particles in multiple states simultaneously, this superposition has never been observer directly, nor
does it occur in macroscopic systems. Wave functions are used to represent these states, as predicted
by the Schrodinger equation. This equation presents an objective measurement with absolute
determinism. Despite the mathematically sound nature of the idea that the change over time of a wave
function can be objectively determined, empirical data seems to directly contradict this. Whenever a
quantum system is observed, the wave function that describes the superposition of possible states for
that system collapses into a single possibility, interrupting the wave function s evolution. The way that
the wave function collapses does not appear to correlate with the information conferred by the wave
function prior to its measurement, and the collapse directly contradicts the Schrodinger equation. This
interpretation physically separates the quantum realm from the rest of reality, including the

Dysphagia Case Studies
2.1 Dysphagia
Dysphagia is the medical term for the symptom of difficulty in eating and swallowing solid and/or
liquid foods (Germain et al., 2006). It occurs when there is a problem with the neural control or the
structures involved in any part of the swallowing process (National Institutes of Health, 2012). These
problems make it hard for dysphagia people to moves food and liquids from mouth toward the
stomach.
It is estimated that dysphagia affects 18 million adults and millions of children in the United States
and 45% 87% of residents in long term care (Agency for Health Care Policy and Research, 1999;
Langmore, 1994; Steele et al., 1997). Dysphagia is common in people who are elderly or who have
had a neurological event such as a stroke ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Videofluoroscopic evaluation is the most common method diagnosis of dysphagia. It is used to record
an X ray video of individual swallowing liquid boluses with various concentrations and volumes of
barium sulfate particles (Logenmann, 1997). The patient is given a radiopaque barium sulphate
suspension and his or her ability to swallow is monitored using videofluorscopy. The radiographic
video could determine bolus transit time and direction, bolus clearance, various structural movement
of the hyoid, upper esophageal sphincter, tongue, mandible and larynx. These measurements would
provide an indication of a patient swallowing ability at mealtime (Logenmann, 1997; Schulze Delrieu
et al., 1997). If the patient exhibits aspiration or excessive residue, intervention strategies like altering
the volume or apparent viscosity of liquids are introduced to improve swallowing (Logenmann,

Smirnov Vodka Empire in The King of Vodka
Although the King of Vodka concerns itself with a different time period and a distant land, the history
of founding and eventual disintegration of the Smirnov Vodka Empire seems resonant in today s
business environment. The famous brand was built in one of the most tumultuous periods in Russian
history, yet the founder had struggled with many of the same business problems we see today.
In 1831, Pyotr A. Smirnov was born to illiterate Russian serfs in a village so remote that walking at
night required clanking metal sticks together to scare off the wolves hidden in the forest. Smirnov
spent his childhood during one of Russia s worst cholera epidemics. However, vodka was his ticket
out of this peasant life. Settling in Moscow during the reforms that began with emancipation, his
genius grassroots marketing popularized his products and established his brand. His life became one
of privilege. His ascent would have continued uninterrupted had it not been for a series of devastating
labor strikes, social uprisings, and a government imposed vodka monopoly. Ultimately, the Smirnov
lost it all, as victims of the Bolshevik revolution and the chaos it unleashed.
Fortunately for Smirnov, his family was ambitious. The success of uncle Grigoriy who made enough
money to buy his own freedom inspired a young Pyotr to move to Moscow and pursue his own
liberation. It was from Grigoriy that Pyotr was inducted into the world of entrepreneurship. Smirnov s
story is one of fierce

including expanding the empire s borders to Vienna. His military aspect is shown through the use of

Kilij represent the key values of law and war, which were both essential to Suleyman s successful rule.
This logo should be used throughout the Ottoman Empire and especially in the main cities, as it will

look up to him, as they can see him as a religious leader. Suleyman was also a very wise and
knowledgable man, as shown through his fluency in six different lagnguages: Ottoman Turkish,

Empire State Building Essay
Since it was built, the Empire State Building has been attracting millions of tourists every year. This
building is not only a national landmark and icon of New York City but a symbol of man s attempt to

build something taller. By the early twentieth century a skyscraper race was on (Rosenberg 1). Smith
and Raskob teamed up and were racing against Walter Chrysler (founder of the Chrysler Corporation)
to build the tallest building. Being the envy of the city was not the only purpose of building such a
fantastic building, but there was also a practical reason. Tenants were willing to pay higher rents in tall
buildings. So, the owner of the tallest building collected the highest rents and became even wealthier
(Mann 12). Consequently, the next step was to find a location for the building. The Waldorf Astoria
Hotel had an excellent location at a busy intersection on Fifth Avenue (Britton 14). This hotel used to
be very popular but since styles had changed, the people who owned the building wanted it to move to
a different location and build a newer and better looking hotel. The new location was served by public
transportation, shops, museums, and entertainment. In 1928, the Waldorf Astoria Hotel was sold to
Bethlehem Engineering Corporation. John Raskob and Alfred Smith bought the site when the sale fell

had to demolish the hotel first.

reliant on something after a while a person s body can crave it and then there re psychological
addictions which is when someone craves something so that is changing their mood and feelings.
According to Wikipedia, addiction is a state characterized by compulsive engagement in rewarding

substance or an activity, physically and mentally. When addicted you feel as if you need to have it and
are unable to stop taking it. Substance abuse or misuse is when you are dependent on a certain
substance, most common substances are alcohol and drugs. When misusing substances it affects a
person s physical and mental health and their social responsibilities.

liquid whose principal ingredient is ethanol . Studies show that teens have lower tolerance levels than
adults when it comes to alcohol, and that females have lower tolerance levels than males when it

Ethical Issues In Huck Finn
Throughout its history, Huck Finn has faced many controversies. It was shunned by many news outlets
at the time of its writing for its subject matter, being called trash by many publications. It was even
banned from some libraries for this reason. However, despite its flaws, Huck Finn proves to be an
entertaining novel that offers an interesting look into pre Civil war America, and should be freely
avaliable for all to read. Despite its inherent value as an examination of its time, many people had a
problem with the manner in which it was portrayed. One of these apparent issues was noted by a
censor of the Concord public library, who called into question the use of the dialect and grammatical
style of the book. To quote the New York Herald, who were reporting on the situation, Another
committeeman perused the volume with great care and discovered that it was couched in the language
of a rough, ignorant dialect and that all through its pages there is a systematic use of bad grammar and
an employment of inelegant expressions. These mannerisms, combined with other offenses, led to the
book garnering a trashy reputation in the eyes of the censors, who quickly banned it from their library.
however, to view these mannerisms as trashy and nothing more would be to misunderstand a large
portion of the novel s appeal. This novel is a period piece, set in the south before the onset of the Civil
War. In order to fully immerse the reader into this setting, Twain made sure to include all of the
different dialects that a person in that setting might hear. As the Athenaeum deftly explains, (The
characters are) schooled in half a dozen extraordinary dialects the Pike County dialect in all its forms,
the dialect of the Missouri negro, and the extremest form of the backwoods South Western dialect, to
wit. This makes the story and characters more entertaining, as it allows the reader to truly immerse
themselves into the narrative. However, some would argue that this immersion isn t entertaining in it s
own right. These people would say that, despite its the lengths it take to immerse you in its story, it s
generally coarse nature would drive off anyone who would try to endure it for more than five minutes.

Effects Of Race Riots On Urban African Americans
Urban Blacks were also encounter with extreme racial violence in neighborhoods and at work.
Different ethnic groups of new immigrants obtained power and used conflict as a strategy of
diminishing urban Blacks power level. They began blocking Urban Black workers going to work
throughout new immigrant s neighborhoods. Race riots have played a crucial role in the social
establishment of race, prejudice, and discrimination across the United States. Race riots uncovered
fundamental tensions in societies experiencing swift technological and economic changes. In 1920,
there were many race riots and other violence in many places, such as Red Summer Race Riots of
1919 and the St. Louis Riot of 1917 that took place during the segregation in the South and the Black
urban migration to the North. These race riots were response to the reality that Urban Blacks were
carrying on a powerful struggle against White supremacy. During race riots, Urban Blacks lived
through a renewed flow of riots, massacres, and racial terrorism.

Sensitivity Analysis
In general sensitivity analysis, the most influencing parameters are identified through building a
statistical linear model, partial t test, and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Sensitivity analysis was
conducted through Design of experiments (DoE) in order to determine the most influencing geological
parameters on the Gas Assisted Gravity Drainage process performance. DoE combines multi level of
each parameter to create many computer experiments evaluated by the compositional reservoir
simulation to obtain the flow response factor. In this study, the parameters adopted for sensitivity

Moreover, this fact can be also observed in Figure ~ref{fig:sa1lm} that decorates the component
residual plots for each parameter. If a variable has a horizontal straight line of residual, it has no effect
on the response and should be removed from the linear model, specifically the porosity variable.
Figure ~ref{fig:sa1_lm} shows the basic diagnostic plots for the full linear model. The residuals vs.
fitted plot is used to determine if the linear relationship between the predictors (parameters) and
outcome factors are captured by the model. An accurate model will have a residuals vs. fitted plot with
a horizontal line with residuals above and below it without forming a pattern or grouping, as seen in
the top left plot. Moreover, the normal Q Q plot, shown in the top right plot, is used to determine if the
residuals are normally distributed. A good normal distribution will have a normal Q Q plot which
follows a straight line, as do our results. Furthermore, the Scale Location plot shows if the residuals
are spread equally along all ranges of the predictors. Ideally, the residuals should be randomly spread
across all fitted values and not tend to one area, as ours do in the bottom left plot. Likewise, the
Residuals vs Leverage plot determines how big of an impact outliers points have on the regression
curve. Additionally, outliers away from the Cook s distance will have a large

My First White Water Fracking Expedition

The Oppression Of Motherhood
When will you have a child? is a question often heard by women nearing a certain age, or upon
achieving certain milestones in her life (such as marriage or after her 30th birthday). While it may be
true that women are indeed the only ones with the ability to bear children, having a child is portrayed
as a woman s right of passage. Individuals frequently overstep boundaries of privacy and inquire
insensitively about a woman s personal plan for children, and the male glorifying society is to be
blamed for this prying and expectation. Due to the fact that motherhood in general is largely linked to
women s subordination to men, voluntary alternate decisions are subject to public criticism for
violating the dominant norm. However, what if a woman truly has no desire to become a mother? Is it
really something that every woman should aspire to? Why are women who opt not to procreate
stigmatized in the first place? Is motherhood really as rewarding as portrayed to be? It is vital to note

The first hybrid electric vehicle is developed by Ferdinand Porsche in 1901. The Lohner Porsche
Mixte Hybrid, being the first ever of its kind, makes use of a gasoline powered engine in conjunction
with electric generators and motors. In the early 1980 s hybrid vehicles become more advanced
through the use of the regenerative brake design. Modern versions of hybrids enter the scene in the
late 1990 s with the Honda Insight and Toyota Prius. These models suffer a slow start due to high
purchase costs and relatively low costs of fuel. As the purchase price of hybrid vehicles decline over
the following years and the cost of fossil fuels increase, hybrids have become increasingly popular.
Today, the use of hybrid vehicles are continuing to rise and become more popular with the addition of
plug in hybrid electric vehicles. Plug in vehicles are able to be charge from an external power source
while it is parked, allowing for the batteries to fully charge without the use of the combustion engine.

interest I want to be a Financial Controller. With the growing marine business, I want to be a Financial
Controller of MacGregor USA Inc., an engineering solution and services company that handles marine
cargo. MacGregor USA, Inc. is part of Cargotec Inc., a cargo and load handling company, based in
Finland. The company sells cargo handling equipment and spare parts. It also provides services and
solution for handling marine cargo and offshore loads. The company has more than 10,000 employees
worldwide. The Controller is often thought same as Chief Financial officer (CFO), but they both are
different. Controller reports to CFO if the company has one. Otherwise, h/she reports to the President
of the company. CFO reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) or the President. Other accounting
managers and accountants report to the controller. A financial controller is an individual in a company
that is the head of the accounting division within the company (Wilkinson, 2013). He is fully
responsible for company s financial reporting. Some of the responsibilities of the financial controller
are assisting with the annual audit, perform accounts payable and accounts

The Good Opportunity For Competent Managers Essay
Experienced, older employees hesitantly accommodate changes and refuses to be open minded. The
root cause of this issue is experienced employees feel that their status is being threatened. Also, they
are stuck in one mind set on how to get the job done. Experienced employees are not adaptable to
changes that may contribute to the success of the company, especially if the ideas come from
inexperienced, younger employees. This significantly affects improving continuously, working
efficiently and effectively and recognizing the true value of teamwork. However, McClelland s
Achievement Motivation Theory explains this moral obligation regarding execution: individuals want
to achieve accomplishments through their own endeavors instead of cooperation or elements outside
their control. Achievement develops from the accomplishment of the assignment and not from
acknowledgment from others. This is the perfect opportunity for competent managers to be effective
leaders and impact other individuals, positively by changing the mind set of older employees to
become more adaptable.
In addition, few senior managers work from home three days a week and it becomes a problem when
other employees do the same. Senior managers believe they have the authority and power to do as
they please and Newstrom describe this, as personal power, which is also known as referent power or
charismatic power. It is the ability of leaders to develop followers from the strength of their own
personalities.

The Controversy Of American Muslims And European Muslims
Introduction The mixing of cultures in a global world can cause some serious problems, with Muslim
immigration into Europe being one such (Glazer, 2010). The low skilled poor migrants face hostility
in many European nations, as anti immigration policies and laws are being implemented, with
xenophobia running rampant (Glazer, 2010). Some experts argue that the influx of immigrants is
necessary to combat the inevitable social security and aging workers crisis, yet others argue
technology will solve the problem (Glazer, 2010). With tensions high, questions come to the limelight
over the banning of burqa s in European countries, and the effects these policies will have on future
immigration to Europe (Glazer, 2010).
In general, what are the main differences between American Muslims and European Muslims? While
American Muslims are mainly educated and work professional jobs, European Muslims are migrant
workers from poorer communities and villages such as Turkey, Algeria and Bangladesh (Glazer,
2010). Furthermore, Muslims in Europe contribute to social problems in the realms of unemployment,
school dropouts, welfare dependency, and political persecution (Glazer, 2010).
Why do experts believe anti immigration hostility is increasing in Europe? Some experts argue that
the recent rise in xenophobic promises and policies in European countries has to do with the populace
s fear over job loss, pensions and benefits cutting, and a fear in the loss of a national identity which

Hierarchy Of Effect Of Amazon
Introduction
Nowadays it is crucial for companies to understand and have a clear vision about trends and levels on
customer knowledge, preferences and behaviors, in order to develop with success their brand and
product strategy.
In effect, studies of awareness, attitudes and usage are made in way to measure these trends and they
are based on the theory of Hierarchy of Effects, assumption that explains the process with which the
consumer, primarily, starts to be aware about the product, with initial trial of it, and then, after
adoption of the product, he becomes loyal to it.
In this way companies can see how their reputation and competition increase, starting a growth
process that, if is well supported and controlled, can result in achieving ... Show more content on

To do this, after its foundation, Amazon came up with the idea of customer reviews, which it means
that if people see other people s review about products and services acquired online they feel more
confident to proceed with the purchase. Doing constantly that operation, company s reputation and
safeness can increase as well as the number of people who start buy on the internet.
They developed a recommendation module, insight integrated after seeing that, between the last
purchase and the following one, exists a connection. It means that after the purchase several
suggestions about a set of customized products are given to the customer, in way to give more
visibility to similar products and to ease their discovery.
To make easy and simplify online shopping they created a process called one click ordering with
which you can buy certain product just pressing a button and the order will be carried out
automatically.
It also offers Amazon Prime, which it was created in 2005, an annually paid membership based on the
offer, to customer, of a very short time shipping which it means that in only 1 or 2 you will receive

Hole In The Ground Research Paper
In the beginning of time, there was nothing: not sky, nor sea, nor land, just the cosmic world. But, in
this world, there were immortals; these immortals were known as Star People. Where the Star People
lived, there was one rule and that was no one could go near the Hole In The Ground. The Hole In The
Ground was so deep you could not see the bottom of it and was so wide you could not see the other
side. There was a fence surrounding the Hole In The Ground made from posts set every fifteen feet
that had three chains running through them. It had taken the fence building crew a couple of centuries
to build the fence around the Hole In The Ground. The Hole In The Ground had been there for
generations no one knows how or where it originated from. The immortals of this world worshiped the
Hole In The Ground, treated it like a God. The immortals had a daily devotional near the hole only the
very important beings were allowed. Cur was an average person in his world, a little different

unholy creation. Cur saw it hurtling through the sky, he did not falter to go and gather it. Upon seeing
this he did not know what to do with it. He began to leave when he seen a bag, he began to dig

the air and getting brighter and brighter till it consumed the darkness. As a result, he decided then and

  • 2. Black Power Speech Summary Stokely Carmichael gave his most famous speech on the campus of the University of California at Berkeley in 1966. His speech, Black Power, addresses the issue of black racism in America and gives strategies for advancing black civil rights. His use of ethos, logos, and pathos is successful in getting the audience to engage and connect with his speech. With blacks already on his side, Carmichael chose to deliver his message to an audience filled with white, liberal college students to reach out to more broad demographics. The element of pathos was used in the very beginning of his speech to humor the young audience by referring to the Berkeley students as White intellectual ghettos of the West (1). He continues his humor by calling the news reporters advertisers who are ... caught up in the intellectual masturbation of the question of Black Power (1). The element of ethos is brought up in the beginning of the speech when Carmichael talks about condemning oneself. He references that the philosophers Camus and Sartre raise the question whether or not a man can condemn himself. The black existentialist philosopher who is pragmatic, Frantz Fanon, answered the question. He said that man could not (1). In order for a man to condemn himself, he would have to blame himself for his actions, sentencing himself to a punishment. Carmichael states multiple different incidents in American history and America s present where a man could not condemn himself, but the most powerful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Overpopulation Is A Global Catastrophe Naturally, as our population grows in size our growth rate increases exponentially. As a result, we face the issue of overpopulation, one of the many dangerous trends discussed in Anthony Barnosky and Elizabeth Hadly s Tipping Point for Planet Earth. Currently, if we do not make any changes, it is expected that we will reach a population size over twenty seven billion people by the year 2100. Along with this massive increase in population size, we will also face a rise in food and water shortages, an increase in population density, and an overall loss of quality of life. In order to prevent these potential effects, Barnosky and Hadly suggested three possible solutions to combating overpopulation a global catastrophe, a one child policy, or an increase in education, job, and contraception availability among girls. Any one of these solutions will potentially help us prevent overpopulation; however, exactly which solution it ends up being all depends on our preparation and the actions we take now. Ideally, we would like to avoid a global catastrophe that would decimate the population. But, if we are unable to lower our growth rate another world war, or something like a pandemic could occur. While no correlation between population density and nation level conflict has been made, the connection between overcrowding and increased internal conflict has been (Tir 1998). Thus, it would be preferable to take advantage of the other solutions like the one child policy that China ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The blood film provided for the patient shows some morphological changes to erythrocytes as well as the malarial parasite which is present. Malaria is a vector borne infectious disease which contains 5 subspecies, of which Plasmodium ovale is the most likely culprit in this case study. The species of malaria can be distinguished between by thin blood films and analysing haematological abnormalities present, such as in plasmodium falciparum infection no change occurs to erythrocyte shape and size whereas in P. ovale infection erythrocytes are usually slightly enlarged, frequently an oval shape and often have fimbriated edges (Moore, Knight and Blann, 2016). Thrombocytopenia is commonly associated with leukaemia patients due to the dysfunctional bone marrow and can result in easy bruising as their blood vessels when damaged will bleed however due to the decreased platelet level they are unable to clot the bleeding and thus leads to bruising. The patient s other symptom of severe malaise may also be linked to the leukaemia and anaemia, due to the high proliferative rate of lymphoblasts in acute leukaemia, this can lead to less space for erythrocyte development which causes normocytic anaemia commonly seen in patients with leukaemia (Moore, Knight and Blann, 2016). Leukaemias are disorders which are characterised by accumulation of white blood cells in bone marrow or in blood. • 5. The Effects of Sport on Levels of Mindfulness and... The area of research that will be of focal concern is conscious awareness in relation to the concept of mindfulness . In addition to this, analogous research surrounding the topic area will be integrated, with particular attention being paid to an important aspect of sport psychology known as flow . Mindfulness has its roots in ancient spiritual traditions, namely Buddhism (Keng, Smoski, Robins, 2011), and is commonly defined as the awareness that emerges through paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, and non judgmentally to the unfolding experience moment by moment (Kabat Zinn, 2003, p. 145). Definitions like the preceding are common in contemporary literature, however many authors have suggested that mindfulness is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beginning with the work of Jon Kabat Zinn and the practice of mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR), which explored the use of mindfulness meditation in treating patients with chronic pain (Keng, Smoski, Robins, 2011), a growing body of research concerning the cognitive behavioural tradition emerged. Within this tradition it was assumed that cognition plays a vital role in determining behaviour (Huss Baer, 2007), therefore, by drawing on the two components of mindfulness put forth by Bishop et al (2004), clinicians established that the development of mindfulness skills, such as focussed breathing (which cultivates the state of mindfulness), can lead to; increased self awareness and self acceptance; reduced reactivity to thoughts and emotions; and improved ability to cope with problematic situations (Linehan, 1993). In addition to this, research revealed that those who undergo mindfulness training also experience improved ability to sustain attention in the present moment (Marks, 2008). From a similar stance, recent studies carried out by sport psychologists provided an indication towards a relationship between aspects of mindfulness and sporting performance, in which theories of flow and peak performance were evidently compatible with the constructs of mindfulness (Kaufman, Glass, Arnkoff, 2009). The historical revisionists and modernists in the Vatican are trying their best to transform chicken scat into chicken salad. Luther is being touted as a reformer of the Church. Cardinal Kurt Koch stated: Luther was pressing for a substantial reform of the Church and not a Reformation that would lead to the disintegration of the unity of the Church. • 7. The Prediction Of Fullerene Structure Fullerene was first recorded in a Japanese article, Kagaku, written by Eiji Osawa in 1970 which stated the prediction on the existence of C60 compound [1]. In the following year, a conjecture on the stability of C60 was established by Osawa and Yoshida where the aromatic characteristic of C60 was described further. The stability was further better explained when the Hückel s calculation method was applied and introduced to the icosahedron structure of C60 by Bochvar and Gal pern [2]. The prediction of fullerene structure was discussed based on graphite balloon speculation made by David Jones using pseudonym of Daedalus in a journal, The Scientist [3]. This speculation was essentially describing the gas phase carbon cluster in the form of geodesic cages which is applied to giant fullerenes compound [2]. Fullerenes can be described as closely packed carbon cages hold in rings of, most commonly, hexagons and pentagons with sp2 hydridised carbons. In some larger structure with more than 100 carbons, heptagonal rings may present. A large numbered fullerene will require larger cage to obtain the most least steric angle between the bonds and the structure might have a surface of concaved [4]. Figure 1 and Figure 2 show the cage structures of fullerenes C60 and C70. Both of these fullerenes are the most stable fullerene with more planar and larger nearly spherical structure and have higher thermodynamic stability with positive enthalpy change of formation, ∆H_f [4]. • 8. Disgrace Fantasy vs. Reality in J. M. Coetzee s Disgrace J. M. Coetzee s novel Disgrace is, on the surface, the story of a wayward college professor, Dr. David Lurie, who is aging into a disrespectful decline. But this story tells of not only the strife and wrenching change that exist in the microcosm of Lurie s mind, but also the parallel themes that underlie the social, political, and ethical systems that are the reality of present day South Africa. As David Lurie interacts with people and creatures outside his normal milieu, the fault lines between his myopic view of the world and reality begin to crystallize with a disconcerting clarity. This open acknowledgment that no one cares about the content or purity of Lurie s soul isolates him within society as well as from his own notion of self. Readers, if not Lurie himself, may begin to realize that they too are ignorant of what lies within their own souls and that this is the kernel of alienation. Professed ignorance of the content of the soul of others is something often relied upon in societal relations between one group and another. The relationship between Lurie and his daughter Lucy s neighbor, Petrus, is quite symbolic of this. Petrus is a native Afrikaner who speaks in enigmatic, inflectionless fragments. Lurie is confronted with his presence and initially thinks he is willing to be friends, but finds the divide too great. Petrus intent is inscrutable, his soul is initially dark to Lurie, and, though there was a time when he thought he might become friends with Petrus... now he detests him (152). This is the state of affairs between the races in general, so eager to find their differences irreconcilable, each so burdened with the weight of history, each perhaps unwilling to search their own soul. ... The ways in which we affect each other s behaviors, beliefs and attitudes is defined as social psychology; it s study can help elucidate how and why we act, think, communicate and behave the way we do. Topics included under the umbrella of social psychology include: the importance of human relationships and interactions; the impact of social influences, such as group pressures and obedience; developmental and situational considerations of prosocial and antisocial behaviors; and the relationship between our attitudes and beliefs and our behaviors (Lilienfeld, Lynn, Namy ... Irving Janis, a social psychologist, coined the term after studying the decisions by the Kennedy administration that lead to the failed invasion of the Bay of Pigs in 1961. He noticed that in group situations, group members may either ignore their own expertice and adopt the opinion of the majority of the group or simply stay quiet and not raise objections in order to not disrupt the consensus (Cherry, n.d.). When dissenting opinions and critical thinking are suppressed, it is not surprising that poor decisions can arise when groups uniformity is put first. In order to prevent such consequences, Janis suggested a few ways to avoid falling into the groupthink trap: 1. appoint a person to play devil s advocate to introduce differing opinions in order to force the rest of the group to consider other options and think critically about their own beliefs; 2. allow independent experts to attend group sessions to evaluate the decision making process; and 3. Consider holding a follow up meeting sometime in the future to allow time for group members to consider and reconsider whether their initial decision was reasonable or not (Lilienfeld, Lynn, Namy Woolf, 2014, p. 507 508). The concept of peacefully resisting laws set by a governing force can be first be depicted in the world of the Ancient Greeks in the works of Sophocles and actions of Socrates. This popular idea has developed over the centuries and is commonly known today as civil disobedience. (Thoreau, 270). Thoreau demands civil disobedience from his fellow countryman to correct the errors of the government in regards to slavery and the war of his time. Thoreau defines this concept as a deed of willful resistance, obtained by disobeying the hypocritical laws. One deed he offers his countrymen to consider as their deed of civil disobedience, is a refusal to pay taxes. Another deed, one Thoreau highly recommends, is to avert oneself from conspiring with the government in refusing to actively participate in it. Most importantly civil disobedience is civil. King s work in civil disobedience seems to be in agreement with Thoreau in regarding civil disobedience as a duty of his fellow countrymen. In response to Mr. Coolbaugh s death, Major League Baseball quickly enacted a rule that base coaches have to wear helmets to protect them. Although this rule may ensure safety for coaches, fans remain unprotected from the threat of broken bats and foul balls. Major League Baseball players also wanted extended netting at the last two collective bargaining agreements but the idea was rejected by the owners. (SI Wire, 2015) Diamondbacks pitcher Brad Ziegler had an interesting take on the situation, Some owners are afraid to upset the fans who pay the high ticket prices for these seats but when in reality, this being done would protect these fans from being fearful of their life. • 23. Literary Themes In True Grit There are many themes in the novel True Grit. One thematic concept explored in the book evolves around the concept of coming of age. The author utilizes many literary elements to convey this theme to the reader. Some of those literary elements are symbolism, setting and character development. One literary element the author uses is setting. True Grit takes place in the Wild West. The Wild West setting is known to be a place with a significant amount of crime and drama, and Fort Smith is an example of a Wild West location. Fort Smith was surely not a place for an average 14 year old girl. Even Mattie Rosses Lawyer said this in the book. Fort Smith is no place for a young girl alone, not even a Mattie . (Portis 78). Living in a dangerous city like Fort Smith may be impossible for an average 14 year old girl, but not for Mattie. Mattie Ross proves him wrong and survives the dangerous place. She built up her strength and level of maturity in the town. She sold horses for $325, watched three people get hanged to death, lived with a random old lady and hired a Marshal, that she had never met in her life, to help her kill Tom Chaney. Charles Portis uses the setting of the story to show us the struggles and hardships Mattie had to go through in Fort Smith. He portrayed that a small girl that can live in a town like Fort Smith is no match for evil bandits and murderers. The second literary element utilized by Portis was Symbolism. Symbolism was a big concept in the novel. There were many symbols in the book, but the ones that best portrayed the theme were the two pieces of gold and her dads gun. The Californian pieces of gold were a big part of the story. Mattie s grandpa gave the gold pieces to her dad on his wedding. Ever since then Frank Ross carried those two pieces of gold symbolizing union and happiness between him and his Family. When Chaney shot Frank, he took away the gold pieces from him. This symbolized Chaney taking away happiness from the Ross family. This theory is what eventually went on to become the many worlds interpretation of quantum physics, which began to gain acceptance among many physicists after his death in 1982. Everett s theory, first conceived in his thesis paper, attempted to address the measurement problem in quantum mechanics. That is, the lack of continuity between the behavior of objects on a microscopic scale when compared to those on a macroscopic one. Despite the fact that quantum theory allows for the superposition of particles in multiple states simultaneously, this superposition has never been observer directly, nor does it occur in macroscopic systems. Wave functions are used to represent these states, as predicted by the Schrodinger equation. This equation presents an objective measurement with absolute determinism. Despite the mathematically sound nature of the idea that the change over time of a wave function can be objectively determined, empirical data seems to directly contradict this. Whenever a quantum system is observed, the wave function that describes the superposition of possible states for that system collapses into a single possibility, interrupting the wave function s evolution. The way that the wave function collapses does not appear to correlate with the information conferred by the wave function prior to its measurement, and the collapse directly contradicts the Schrodinger equation. These measurements would provide an indication of a patient swallowing ability at mealtime (Logenmann, 1997; Schulze Delrieu et al., 1997). • 26. Smirnov Vodka Empire in The King of Vodka Although the King of Vodka concerns itself with a different time period and a distant land, the history of founding and eventual disintegration of the Smirnov Vodka Empire seems resonant in today s business environment. The famous brand was built in one of the most tumultuous periods in Russian history, yet the founder had struggled with many of the same business problems we see today. In 1831, Pyotr A. Smirnov was born to illiterate Russian serfs in a village so remote that walking at night required clanking metal sticks together to scare off the wolves hidden in the forest. Smirnov spent his childhood during one of Russia s worst cholera epidemics. However, vodka was his ticket out of this peasant life. Settling in Moscow during the reforms that began with emancipation, his genius grassroots marketing popularized his products and established his brand. His life became one of privilege. His ascent would have continued uninterrupted had it not been for a series of devastating labor strikes, social uprisings, and a government imposed vodka monopoly. Ultimately, the Smirnov lost it all, as victims of the Bolshevik revolution and the chaos it unleashed. Fortunately for Smirnov, his family was ambitious. The success of uncle Grigoriy who made enough money to buy his own freedom inspired a young Pyotr to move to Moscow and pursue his own liberation. It was from Grigoriy that Pyotr was inducted into the world of entrepreneurship. Smirnov s story is one of fierce ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Smith and Raskob teamed up and were racing against Walter Chrysler (founder of the Chrysler Corporation) to build the tallest building. Being the envy of the city was not the only purpose of building such a fantastic building, but there was also a practical reason. Tenants were willing to pay higher rents in tall buildings. So, the owner of the tallest building collected the highest rents and became even wealthier (Mann 12). Consequently, the next step was to find a location for the building. The Waldorf Astoria Hotel had an excellent location at a busy intersection on Fifth Avenue (Britton 14). This hotel used to be very popular but since styles had changed, the people who owned the building wanted it to move to a different location and build a newer and better looking hotel. The new location was served by public transportation, shops, museums, and entertainment. In 1928, the Waldorf Astoria Hotel was sold to Bethlehem Engineering Corporation. John Raskob and Alfred Smith bought the site when the sale fell through (Britton 7). They wanted to start construction on the Empire State Building immediately but had to demolish the hotel first. • 32. Ethical Issues In Huck Finn Throughout its history, Huck Finn has faced many controversies. It was shunned by many news outlets at the time of its writing for its subject matter, being called trash by many publications. It was even banned from some libraries for this reason. However, despite its flaws, Huck Finn proves to be an entertaining novel that offers an interesting look into pre Civil war America, and should be freely avaliable for all to read. Despite its inherent value as an examination of its time, many people had a problem with the manner in which it was portrayed. One of these apparent issues was noted by a censor of the Concord public library, who called into question the use of the dialect and grammatical style of the book. To quote the New York Herald, who were reporting on the situation, Another committeeman perused the volume with great care and discovered that it was couched in the language of a rough, ignorant dialect and that all through its pages there is a systematic use of bad grammar and an employment of inelegant expressions. These mannerisms, combined with other offenses, led to the book garnering a trashy reputation in the eyes of the censors, who quickly banned it from their library. however, to view these mannerisms as trashy and nothing more would be to misunderstand a large portion of the novel s appeal. This novel is a period piece, set in the south before the onset of the Civil War. In order to fully immerse the reader into this setting, Twain made sure to include all of the different dialects that a person in that setting might hear. As the Athenaeum deftly explains, (The characters are) schooled in half a dozen extraordinary dialects the Pike County dialect in all its forms, the dialect of the Missouri negro, and the extremest form of the backwoods South Western dialect, to wit. This makes the story and characters more entertaining, as it allows the reader to truly immerse themselves into the narrative. However, some would argue that this immersion isn t entertaining in it s own right. These people would say that, despite its the lengths it take to immerse you in its story, it s generally coarse nature would drive off anyone who would try to endure it for more than five minutes. Race riots have played a crucial role in the social establishment of race, prejudice, and discrimination across the United States. Race riots uncovered fundamental tensions in societies experiencing swift technological and economic changes. In 1920, there were many race riots and other violence in many places, such as Red Summer Race Riots of 1919 and the St. Louis Riot of 1917 that took place during the segregation in the South and the Black urban migration to the North. Moreover, this fact can be also observed in Figure ~ref{fig:sa1lm} that decorates the component residual plots for each parameter. If a variable has a horizontal straight line of residual, it has no effect on the response and should be removed from the linear model, specifically the porosity variable. Figure ~ref{fig:sa1_lm} shows the basic diagnostic plots for the full linear model. The residuals vs. fitted plot is used to determine if the linear relationship between the predictors (parameters) and outcome factors are captured by the model. An accurate model will have a residuals vs. fitted plot with a horizontal line with residuals above and below it without forming a pattern or grouping, as seen in the top left plot. Moreover, the normal Q Q plot, shown in the top right plot, is used to determine if the residuals are normally distributed. A good normal distribution will have a normal Q Q plot which follows a straight line, as do our results. Furthermore, the Scale Location plot shows if the residuals are spread equally along all ranges of the predictors. Ideally, the residuals should be randomly spread across all fitted values and not tend to one area, as ours do in the bottom left plot.
