3. The War of the Roses and Shakespeare
There are two sides to every issue. The Wars of the Roses went from 1455 1485
AD, which were fought between the Lancastrians and the Yorks. The Lancastrians
was a house descended from John of Gaunt, this sides symbol was a Red Rose.
The York s was a house descended from the second and fourth son of Edward III,
their symbol was a White Rose. Shakespeare wrote a play about Richard III, taking
place three months after the Wars of the Rosesended. Shakespeare s play is summing
up Richard doing anything and killing whoever he had to so he could get to the
throne. This play was full of drama and gore. Shakespeare generally does a good
job of explaining historical information, but not everything was accurate about
Richard III. The Wars of the Roses was caused for a number of different reasons.
Some of the causes were social and financial problems as a result of the Hundred
Years War, descendants of King Edward III fighting for the throne, and disgust over
the Lancastrian ruler King Henry VI, who was mentally unstable. General
information about the Wars of the Roses was that it was a battle between two
families both wanting the throne, each family was represented with a rose. The wars
occurred over the course of thirty years. From 1455 1460 Richard of York and his
sponsors fought against Margaret of Anjouacting inlace of her husband Henry VI.
On December 30, 1460 Richard of York was killed in the Battle of Wakerfield. The
descendants of Edward the III that caused the civil

5. Essay about Literature
In the opening scene of Jane Martin s Rodeo, there are many stereotypical props
used to portray the beer drinking, hard working, cowboy image with the
characteristic country music playing as an added touch. Most people are familiar
with this type of scene in their minds, with a man as the character, but not this time
we find a tough, smart, opinionated woman with a distinctively country name of
Lurlene, and the typical cowboy kind of nickname, Big Eight. The reader will dive
deeper into the true characterof this unusual woman and realize that she is no
different from the average woman in today s workforce. She is feeling the frustration
of discrimination and the push out of the only lifestyle that she knows, by Them

The more a sport becomes commercialized, the higher the cost of participating for the
athlete. One example would be that there are entry fees established to help raise
monies that will be awarded to the winner and the sponsoring company.
Unfortunately, for the athlete, once they start investing money into the sport, they
also begin to place constraints and regulations that all athletes must follow. Some
may seem as ridiculous as wearing regulation clothes that some would feel as
though they looked like Minnie damn Mouse in a tu tu (1667) rather than a serious
competitor. More often than not, the changes seem extreme and one may wonder
what could be waiting around the next corner; it won t be long before they re
strappin ice skates on the ponies (1667). Big Eight finds herself having a hard time
adjusting to the changes employed. Although she is not adapting well to the
arrival of the sponsors, she is most uncomfortable with the dress code changes. She
does not feel as though dressing the women up in fancy outfits will increase the
capacity of the audiences when the rodeo is only supposed to be about the rides.
She believes that it does not matter what you wear, but instead, how you ride. She

6. The Expanding Environment for Non Traditional Students
Non Traditional Students
According to current estimates approximately 75 percent of college students are
now nontraditional students older than 25, attending school part time, and having
delayed entry or reentry into college for a variety of personal reasons. Post
secondary education is needed by such students to develop their careers and to
acquire knowledge and skills required by a constantly changing global society. This
trend is not restricted to North America; it is a worldwide phenomenon.
Over the years, these nontraditionals have chosen either slower or faster options to
proceed through their chosen curricula. They could work incrementally, taking a few
courses per year while taking advantage of workplace tuition reimbursement ... Show

Then, teachers must reach goals using diverse methods and techniques which engage
the student and make the learning process interesting. Though methods vary, a
problem or task centered approach is generally considered superior to a subject matter
approach. Students and professors may work together to co create knowledge. Work
in teams is an often used strategy because it replicates the experiences of
nontraditional students in the workplace. Additionally, teachers work to reduce time
and place restrictions for the nontraditional student that would limit that person s
access to course materials and assignments; asynchronous online options easily break
down such barriers.
Furthermore, flexible access to student services has become more common over time.
Clearer and more accessible information now exists on institutions and the specific
programs needed for planning degrees and careers. Programs for nontraditional
learners provide orientation workshops to reacquaint applicants with the rigors of
college level study, and to reduce anxiety about reentry after a prolonged period of
time. Some of these programs offer remedial classes to help the student re learn or
improve study skills. The availability of financial aid information has improved
greatly over time.
Critics contend that the influx of nontraditionals into the college student market has
accelerated a trend toward
7. The French Revolution Of 1789
French Revolution in 1789
Introduction:
King Louis XVI required cash. His money related crisis constrained the French ruler
to reluctantly meet the Estates General with a specific end goal to require another
land tax that would ideally settle his financial hardships. It had been basically 175
years since a last meeting of this deliberative body. That included delegates of almost
three Estates: the First involved the ministry, the Second contained the nobility and
also the Third involved the lower and middle classes. The Estates started their
meeting at the Versailles on 5th of May, 1789 and immediately went into a force
battle. The Third Estate soon proclaimed itself the National Assembly that was
illustrative of the general population. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Political, monetary, and social conditions in France added to the discontent felt by
numerous French individuals particularly those of the third estate. The thoughts of
the scholarly people of the Enlightenment conveyed new perspectives to government
and society. The American Revolution additionally affected the happening to the
French Revolution. The Philosophers planted the seeds for the French Revolution.
Their objectives were to uncover and annihilate the disparities of the old
administration (old order). The political discontent of France was one of the reasons
for the Revolution. In the seventeenth and eighteenth hundreds of years, France was
ruled by an outright government. The ruler had all the political forces. Any individual
who reprimanded the administration could be captured and put in jail without trial.
Louis XVI was lord at the season of the French Revolution. He was keener on
chasing than overseeing France. He and his Austrian ruler, Marie Antoinette, carried
on with an extreme life at the Palace of Versailles. They didn t generally think about
the condition of their nation.
The initial two estates cooperated to outvote the huge third estate to keep them from
turning into a risk to the force. Lord Acton, an Englishmen, states that the government
being toppled wasn t the flash of the Revolution. He perceives the American
Independence as the flash of the French Revolution. The
8. Pros And Cons Of Banning The Headscarf
Should the headscarf be banned? Recently there has been a push towards banning
religious symbolism from the media, especially the hijab. The hijab is a veil that
Muslim women wear around their heads to cover their hair and their bosoms; it
symbolizes faith and modesty. Many people fear or in some cases feel bad for
people who wear the headscarf including niqabs and burqas because they are
uneducated and/or ignorant of Islamic teachings which lead them to create
inaccurate assumptions and accusations on the matter. Most may believe banning
the headscarf will benefit the community in ways that they believe will make
people feel more comfortable and they also believe that it will benefit the women
who wear the hijab because of the belief that Muslim women who wear the headscarf
are oppressed, however, banning the headscarf would lead to the contradiction of
Canadian values, discrimination, and go against the religious beliefs of Muslims.
The prohibition of the headscarf would go against Canadian values. When Steven
Harper was Prime Minister, he wanted to ban the niqab, a cloth that covers the face,
for citizens who work for the government and Around 82 percent of Canadians
[supported] the niqab ban, ( Trudeau s Gutsy Post Victory Speech Shatters
Stereotypes ). Having most of the population supporting this decision is relatively
disappointing knowing it contradicts the significance of Canadian society, since
Canada is acknowledged for its multiculturalism and diversity.

10. The Importance Of Multiculturalism In The UK
Multiculturalism is the view that those cultures, ethnicities and races particularly of
minority should warrant distinct acknowledgment and support of their diverse
differences within a dominant culture. Ideology surrounding multiculturalism ranges
from the advocacy of equality to promoting the preservation of cultural diversity.
Policing in the UK has long been stigmatised with regards to racerelations.
Procedures for recruitment underwent two major transformations following on from
the Race Relations Act 1961; carried out in the 1980 s and early 2000s after official
inquires prompted by a botched police investigation into a racially motivated murder
in 1982. Historically, dominated by white males the UK force was criticised for its
sexist and racist culture. The disproportionate employment of ethnic minoritiesin
police and other public services came to light as a result of the publication of the
Macpherson Report 1999, into the inquiry following Stephen Lawrence s racist
murder. The duties of public authorities to prevent such discriminationwas reinforced
by the Race Relations Act 2000 as well as their obligation to promote equality and
healthy relations between different races. Following on from this, all 43 forces
between England and Wales were set varying quotas with regards to increasing
recruitment of officers from ethnic minorities. Throughout ...

A Christmas Surgery
It was eight days until Christmas everyone was off from school and it was the
beginning of winter break, Christmas songs were playing, trees were up in houses,
Christmas lights were shining, and normally I would have been in my warm bed
still asleep at 6:30. But today was the day that I was going to have people
surrounding me and waiting on me in a hospital. I knew that sometime during my
life I would have to a surgery to correct a scar that was on my lip. This surgery was
something that I was dreading more than anything else in my life.

After the gown was on I had to get into the bed where I would soon be having the

pillows behind my back, I would keep falling down to the bottom of the bed.
While I was rearranging myself, a lady with brown hair came over the area that I
was with my mom. She took my blood pressure and then she told me something that I
really didn t want to hear.
Ok sweetheart there is nothing for you to worry about right now, but I am going to
give you an IV, she said to me in a tone that was somewhat comforting to me.
First I am going to give you a numbing shot, and don t worry you won t even feel a
thing, it will only feel like a little bee sting, she said as she was shoving the needle
into my arm.
Though she was right that I wouldn t feel anything, I didn t have to be a

whether the first shot would hurt or not. After she jabbed the numbing shot into my
arm, she stuck the IV into my arm. I did get the impression that the IV was in my
arm but I was too apprehensive to take a peek at the object that was lodged in my
12. The Eugenics Of The Word Eugenics
The word eugenics was first derived from the Greek word eugenes which means
well born. The goal of eugenics is to create and breed the utmost superior person
through selection while picking out the good traits and eliminating the bad ones.
Eugenics is the study of using methods to improve genetics by selective breeding
(Eugenics, 2009). This came about because of the thought of being able to tell the
difference between inferior and superior human beings. In 1883 the word eugenics
was first used to talk about the science of heredity and good breeding. The scientist
Gregor Mendel had cross breeded pea plants and found patterns that were relative to
humans such as color and height. After the knowledge of this study came to be, other
scientists began to use the word eugenics. Because of Mendel s study the concept of
genes became introduced. Charles Davenport, a widely respected scientist, was first
to say that certain characteristics were superior to others such as intelligence,
cleanliness, hard work and many more. Davenport founded the Eugenics Record
Office in 1910 (Eugenics, 2009). According to a publication, the goal of eugenics was
to improve the natural, physical, mental and temperamental qualities of the human
family (Eugenics, 2009). After these studies, eugenics researchers believed that if
mating was controlled, conditions such as psychiatric illness, physical disabilities and
mental retardation could be eliminated.

13. Noah And Utnapishtim Similarity
The main similarity between Noah and Utnapishtim was that Noah and Utnapishtim
were told to do something similar tasks by their God or gods. Both were told to go
and build an ark to protect themselves from the flood. Another similarity is that both
that Noah and Utnapishtim were told the specific measurement of the ark that they
were supposed to build. Even though the measurements were different they were
both told how to build the ark. One of the differences was that the duration of the
flood in the texts was different. In the Bible the flood lasted for 40 days. In the Epic
of Gilgamesh, the flood lasted for only 7 days. I am interested to know why there is
such a big difference between the two texts. I came to one reason which is that in
14. Gibbs Bridge Myths
Introduction:
Gibbs Bridge is nothing more than a small, slightly spooky bridge in the middle of
nowhere. Yet stories are spread stating that it is haunted. Stories about Gibbs
Bridge have been making their way around the city of Sylvania for years, being
passed down as a local legend of sorts. At first glance, this small bridge may seem
inconspicuous but with some digging, it is revealed that this bridge has many
stories attached to it. The bridge itself was built in 1923, and is located on Gibbs Road
in Sylvania, Ohio not too far from the Michigan border. A picture of where exactly
the bridge is located can be found in appendix A. Aside from the year it was built,
not much else is known about the bridge yet if the legends are consulted ... Show

According to the story, there was a nasty car accident that occurred on the bridge
during that time in which some local students were killed. Now it is said that those
who lost their lives in that horrific crash haunt the bridge, if you visit the bridge at
night the sounds of screeching tires, breaking glass, and oddly enough laughter
can be heard. Also, dark, shadowy figures are said to chase people off the bridge if
they walk across it. Another quite popular legend that is often told is called
Xanadu. This story claims that a young man was decapitated by two of his friends
who attempted to play a prank on him. The young man s friends strung fishing line
across the bridge and waited for the man on the motorcycle to cross. His body
ended up crossing the bridge, but his head did not. He was decapitated by the
fishing line and is now said to haunt the bridge. In keeping with the legend if the
participant goes to the bridge at night and flashes their headlights three times a
motorcycle headlight will appear out of nowhere as well as the sounds of a
motorcycle followed by a man screaming. Many other stories are told about the
bridge, including; a girl hanging herself due to an unrequited love, a young girl
getting hit by a car, an angry farmer chasing people off the bridge with his truck or
shooting at them, and like any good haunted location the bridge is a popular site

The Telecommunication Act of 1996 was passed on the 8thof February, 1996. It gave
rise to a huge revolution in the field of telecommunication in the United States. This
law basically derives most of its features from the Communications Act of 1934 ( the
1934 Act ) and was formed on the basis of a general agreement which concentrated
more on advancement in technology based on competition rather than monopoly. The
ultimate motive of this Act was to bring about major changes in the
telecommunication arena.
This new Act basically portrays the idea that the service providers should not be
limited to the regulatory categories and that they should be allowed to compete
openly in the robust market place and be able to handle the active participants and the
stiff competition. The Act provides a proof from the government to making sure that

17. Capturing The Ever Changing Chinese Consumer Market
This report is meant to capture the ever changing Chinese consumer market. It
includes demographic and economic information which McKinsey compiled by
conducting
Surveys in China, interviewing a total of more than 60,000 people in upward of 60
cities. As well as, information regarding rising incomes, consumer trends, and the
aging population. These consumer trends are expected to continue into the year 2020.
Common features of China s changing demographics include rapid industrialization,
rising incomes, urban living, better education, postponed life stages, and greater
mobility.
Changing Demographics
Economic profiles have been and will continue to be the most important trend
shaping the consumer landscape. The Chinese are getting richer faster, the
disposable income of the urban consumer is expected to double between 2010 and
2020 from approximately $ 4,000 to $ 8,000. This is close to South Korea s current
standard of living but far behind the United States, Japan and other developing
countries.
The wealth of so many consumers is rising so rapidly, many people in the value
category will have joined the mainstream by 2020. Mainstream consumers will then
account for 51 percent of the urban population. Their level of wealth will remain
quite low compared with that of consumers in developed countries. Yet this group,
will comprise 167 million households (close to 400 million people), will become the
standard setters for consumption, capable of affording small luxury
18. Religious Beliefs Of Islam In Islam, Islam And Islam
Islam is a widespread religion in the world and probably the only religion which
has a set of laws that are followed by its members to the book. Likewise, the Islamic
religion focuses on the preservation of self and community to follow moral values,
the Shari ah was introduced by Prophet Mohammad as a guideline to be a true and
devout Muslim. Furthermore, Shari ah or the path to religious beliefs will be
discussed further in detail in reference to its definition, origins, sources, and its
relevance in the contemporary world. On the other hand, Tariqa is defined as
leading those who obeyed Shari ah to walk on God s path which is considered as a
leader who can take you to a path closer to God which will also be discussed in
further detail. This essay will discuss in detail the two different aspects, Shari ah and
Tariqa in further details and their connections to each other.
Shari ah in other words, is known as Islamic law. Shari ah means right path in
Arabic and it refers to the essential principle which guides all aspects of Muslim life
such as daily routines, familial and religious obligations, and financial dealings.
Shari ah s origin is from the Quran and the Sunna (sayings, practices, and teachings
of the prophet). Therefore, the Muslim legal scholars interpreted them and named it
as Shari ah or Islamic law. Moreover, it is believed by many Muslims that Allah
revealed his true will to Muhammad who passed it on from generations to generations
through the Quran. In

Carolyn to determine not only how this decision was made, but to also consider
alternative options Carolyn could take to excel in this particular course. As I spoke

her religion course stemmed from a lack of previous academic guidance. For

Characteristics of Advisor Advising Techniques Given the difficulties Carolyn had

how serious it can be to withdraw from a course, I made sure to use one to one
advising in order to keep my conversation with Carolyn as private as possible. After
greeting her into my office, I made sure to shut my office door and stop working
on my other caseloads to ensure that all my attention was focused on her. I had also
refrained from taking notes during the session, so Carolyn would feel comfortable
expressing herself around me. I believe that meeting one to one with Carolyn was
particularly beneficial since I had the opportunity to better get to know her and her
journey of how she ended up as a Merrimack College business major. As I continued
to ask her questions about her academics, I was better able to understand how her
perceptions and social life might be contributing to her academic success, which
allowed me to help her develop different strategies to move forward. On the other
hand, I also believe that because Carolyn had the opportunity to meet one to one, she
had the chance to ask questions about resources she may have been embarrassed to
ask about when in a group context. It also appeared that this was the first time
Carolyn met with any

Britain s today were not even imaginable to the people at that time. Today much of
the help that is available to those in the margins of society is seen as an obligation
for the state to correct. However in the Elizabethan Era the attitudes towards welfare
and the poor were very negative and unsympathetic. In this essay I will be discussing
welfare before the classic welfare state, the provisions for poor, the key features of
the welfare state and why it was developed.
The key features of the welfare state are very linked to the 1942 report on Social
Insurance and Allied Services or also known as the Beveridge Report. The key
features I have identified of the classic welfare state is the National Health Service
(NHS), Social insurance, Housing, Education and Full employment. Asa Briggs a
British historian defined the welfare state as a state which ...organised power is
deliberately used in order to play of the market in 3 direction; by guaranteeing an
individuals a minimum income, narrowing extent of insecurity by enabling people
to meet certain social contingencies which lead to family or individual crisis and
thirdly by ensuring that all citizens without distinction of status or class are offered
the best standards available to a certain agreed range of social services . Kauffman

ADA if they meet just one of the requirements;
1.A physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one of more major life
actives
2.A record of such an impairment
3.Being regarded as having such an impairment
Even with this broad definition, pregnancy simply isn t a disability and a pregnant
employee wouldn t be guaranteed protection. In 2008 the ADAAA was introduced
which made it easier for pregnant women who suffered pregnancy related disabilities
to establish they do have disabilities and are entitled to reasonable accommodations

It goes on to state that it is the burden of the employer to demonstrate a reason they
cannot reasonably accommodate an employee s beliefs and practices without undue
hardships (Walsh, 2014).
Gunther would first need to establish prima facie of failure to reasonably
accommodate religion.
1.The existence of a sincere religious belief or practice that conflicts with an
employment requirement
2.The employer was informed of the conflicting belief or practice
3.The employee or applicant suffered an adverse employment outcome because of
adhering to the religious belief or practice
Once Gunther established prima facie, Central Perk would have to show the
following:
1.A reasonable accommodation was offered but not accepted
2.No reasonable accommodation without undue hardship was available (Walsh, 2014)
The existence of a sincere religious belief or practice that conflicts with an
employment requirement
Even though Kemet is not a widely known religion, Gunther has demonstrated the
sincere religious belief required by the EEOC. The tattoos he has are required by his
religion and any concealment of the tattoos runs contrary to its belief system.
The employer was informed of the conflicting belief or practice
Gunther s tattoos have never been discussed with his current manager, which
indicates he never informed Central Perk of the possible conflict. Employees are

Stage 3 is where the factories are industrialized and there is low birth and low death

from infectious disease rapidly, because lack of access to medication and vaccine.
Children died in the comfort of their home surrounding with family members.
Family members are able to witness death for the first time and the bodies are
preserved at home. Death is shown in public to everyone. Families can make a
ceremony for their loved one to say their last goodbye to each other. Now in the
late 1900 s majority of older people died from chronic disease at a slower rate,
because there is high advancement in the healthcare and medication systems.
However, older people frequently died in the hospital surrounding with medical
machines to increase life. Death is less visible to the public including family
members and the bodies are preserved through embalming at the funeral home.
Family members won t get the opportunity to say their last goodbye before their

DOCUMENT ANALYSIS LUCRETIUS: EPICUREAN PHILOSPHY AT ROME
Within Lucretius dialectic and poetic writings in Robert Latham s translation of
Lucretius: On the Nature of the Universe, three major topics are discussed:
philosophy, religion, and science. Lucretius was devoted to the works of his teacher
and renowned philosopher Epicurus, praising him as a prophetic or god like figure.
His poetic prose uses a host of concrete examples to show validity in his beliefs.
Lucretius effectively supports the Epicurean worldview that everything can be
explained by material forces. Memmius is the addressee of the poem, and Lucretius
enlightens him to the nature of happiness, how religion is based on superstition, and
the idea of atoms composing earthly matter. Evaluating reality gives mankind the
natural answers to life s questions without concerning themselves with gods,
prophets, or beliefs, and this was Lucretius main task in his work. Lucretius was a
Roman poet who believed that the Epicurean systems provided the most important
and valuable way of thinking. He pledged all of his poetic and persuasive writing
skills towards presenting Epicurus teachings in a concise expose. A key Epicurean
doctrine which he explores is the concept of the Nature of Happiness. Philosophy, in
this mindset, is a refuge from the trials and tribulations of the

Child of Dandelions by Shenaaz Nanji, should be incorporated in the IB curriculum,
as it demonstrates how the I.B. trait caring, is significant in our daily lives. The I.B.
trait caring is illustrated throughout this story, as the protagonist Sabine is
compassionate towards others despite enduring a difficult time in her life. Child of
Dandelions is based on real accounts of Ugandan events that occurred during the
dictatorship of Idi Amin in 1972. Sabine is a Ugandan ,Indian; however, she is
discriminated as she is forced to leave the country. Regardless of her current situation,
Sabine still demonstrates caring through her care of her family, the lower class and
her care for the safety of her loved ones.
First, this novel showcases acts of caring for family and friends, during a rough time
for all the Indians bringing them closer into one community. The protagonist Sabine
displays acts of caring among her friends and family. For instance, near the end of the
novel, Sabine helps her mother s friend, Lalita, despite having a sour relationship
with her. Sabine saves Lalita from being arrested by lying to a military officer, thus
making Sabine a more confident and brave person. Sabine faces her fear of the

shows that Sabine does care for the future of the lower class people. Another
example of caring for the lower class in this novel is shown when Lalita gives her
precious gold bangles to a child in need as she leaves Uganda. All these factors strive

BRIEF BACKGROUND OF AMERICAN INVOLVEMENT
IN THE PHILIPPINES The United States policy was to govern the Philippine
Archipelago for the common welfare of the Filipino people and to train the Filipinos
for self governance. The United States was hoping that the Filipino people would be
capable of independence someday.
President Mckinley assure that the Philippines are theirs, and so it should not be
exploited, rather to develop, to civilize, to educative and to train the Filipinos in the
science of self governance. Even President Wilson mentioned that every step we take
will be taken with a view to the ultimate independence of the Philippine Islands .

Development of the Philippines under America
The economic progress of the Philippines at the beginning of American occupation
was in a debacle situation especially in agriculture. However, the administration
exerted all efforts to revive and improve agriculture. Thus, the bureau of agriculture
was created in order to promote agriculture such as gradual experimentation and
modernization of farms, plants and animal wastes. CARABAOS were imported to
restock the depleted animal resources. Friar lands were purchased by the Philippine
government and sold to tenants on easy mode of payment. Modern types of farm
machinery were introduced from the United States of America. Irrigations were
constructed that improved the country s rice production.
The greatest factor that fostered the development of the Philippine economy was due
to free trade relations with the United States. Philippine based products such as
hemp, sugar, tobacco, copra, embroideries and among others were exported. These
products were accepted in the American ports within the quota limit, any amount in
excess of these limits was subject to the full rate of the tariff while all United States
goods were admitted free.
Although free trade brought economic development to the Filipino people resulting

The melting pot of America is the mix of different cultures and identities that
supposedly make up the American Society. But to the minorities who are the heart
and soul of the melting pot, they know that the idea of diverse and equal identities in
American culture isn t always true. Two sources that dive deeper into this idea are
The Reluctant Fundamentalist, by Mohsin Hamid, and Do the Right Thing by Spike
Lee. In The Reluctant Fundamentalist, Hamid uses the main character Changez to
show the struggles of being a Pakistani American in the 9/11 era of America. The

Changez exclaimed that the patriotic symbols plastered everywhere seemed to
proclaim: We are America not New York, which, in my opinion, means something
quite different the mightiest civilization the world has ever known; you have
slighted us; beware our wrath (Hamid 79). This acknowledgment of patriotism
shows that Changez felt his culture was overwhelmed and belittled by America s
response to the attacks. Changez s feelings of lack of identity in American culture
was not just felt by him, in a qualitative study called Understanding the experiences
of discrimination in Muslim Americans post 9/11 , Dr. Zaman questioned other
Middle Eastern Americans about how their identity changed by living in America
after 9/11. One lady responded by saying I just don t feel that Americans accept me
as an American. They look at me, or people with a similar background, that we re
some outsiders intruding their country (Zaman 82). By using the quote, Dr. Zaman
shows how other people of the Middle Eastern minorities felt detached in American
society after 9/11. This patriotic response made it hard for individuals just like
Changez to have a sense of belonging in the American mainstream culture of post 9
/11. Even through all the persecution that faced Changez after 9/11, he was still able
to make a successful use of non violent activism to fight for a sense of identity in the
mainstream culture.

The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World refers to remarkable constructions
during classical era. Through the ages, there have been numerous versions of the
original list of the Seven Wonders ; however, only one of these miraculous
buildings has remained intact the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt, which is also
the oldest of the ancient wonders. On the west bank of the Nile River, there are
three pyramid erected on a rocky plateau in Giza in the northern part of Egypt.
These pyramids were named after these kings Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure agree

It was the Ming Emperors, who restored the buildings of the Wall after ending the
conflicts with invaders. During the Ming Dynasty, the wall was reconstructed,
repaired and rebuilt, and new sections were also added. Many dynasties reigned
over China during this almost 2000 year project, and the final major renovations
were done during the Ming Dynasty (par.3). The time needed to complete the Great
Wall is much longer than that used to build the pyramids. Furthermore, it was much
more difficult to construct the Wall in terms of the environment and the
manpower. Before building the Great Pyramid, the pharaoh Khufu selected the site
prudently in order to choose the most suitable location, and there were five basic
requirements for the location. First, the site should be constructed in the sunset
region and higher than the Nile s flood plain to be safe; considering the
convenience of transporting materials, the site should also be located on the bank
of Nile close to Memphis which was the Egyptian capital. Finally, the site should
be located on the solid bedrock and in a plain in order to build suitable levels of
foundations of the construction (Jackson and Stamp 23). Khufu chose Giza as the
site of construction, because it occupied a plateau overlooking the Nile River, and
there were plenty of raw materials, such as limestone was accessible (Smith 108).
According to Craig B. Smith, the exact nature of the workforce it took to build the
pyramid is unknown.
32. Abortion Saves Women From Teen Pregnancy
Abortion saves women from teen pregnancy, single mothers who cannot afford a
child and people who are unfit or unable to support a child. The topic of abortion
divides this country in two everywhere you go. Many see it as immoral, while
others oppose the issue based upon their religion. Supporters of pro life more times
than not have very strong religious views on the issue; as a result, those who
oppose it, often try to force and push their beliefs onto others to make it to their
liking. Pro life doesn t let women have control of their bodies and their reproductive
rights. A woman should have the choice of what she does and what is best for her,
outsiders should not have a say in other people s choices.
Pro choice allows a woman the option to not bring a baby into this world that has
profound abnormalities. In some cases women s fetuses develop a disease where
death is certain upon birth or shortly after. A disease the fetus could develop is
anencephaly. Anencephaly is the disease where the brain is missing and death is
almost certain soon after death. Down Syndrome is a nonfatal disease the fetus
could develop. This nonfatal disease causes many health risks if the child is born;
furthermore a child born with this defect has a 50% chance of having a congenital
heart defect, the life expectancy is shortened and in some cases 17% of these babies
didn t make it to age twenty. Women shouldn t have to continue a pregnancyif she is
not fit to care for it or if it will not

DISCUSSION
The history of Kashmir is replete with episodes like political un stability, genocide,
custodial killings, torture, arbitrary arrests, arson, bloodshed, mass rapes, bloodshed,
and enforced disappearances. However, people of Kashmir have demonstrated a
distinct resistance for their existence and self determination. The dispute evolved
over the unfulfilled promise of plebiscite regarding Kashmirs status that further
strained its relation with India. In 1987, after the faulty elections were held in Kashmir
, it was ensured that the last viable avenue for the expression of political discontent
was blocked (Ganguly 92). The early resistance of 1990 s when massive
demonstrations for azaadi (freedom) broke out in the city of Srinagar and other
Valley towns, and panicked federal paramilitary police sent by New Delhi to
contain the unrest opened fire, killing hundreds of protesters (Bose 179) led to the
full fledged resistance movement. Mirza Waheed s The Book of Gold Leaves brings
alive the horrors of this period which have not yet ceased to haunt.

Midsummer Night s Dream appears to be controversial and of great significance.
Shakespeare s views on women are shown in this play through Helena s despair,
Hermia s carelessness, and Hippolyta s hypocritical behavior as they rebel against
the Athenian laws and its society. Helena chases after men, which goes against how
women were supposed to act. She breaks society s norms of the women obeying their
fathers and letting the father choose the husband, by chasing men by herself instead.

(I.i.16 19) This is at the beginning of the play, and Levine identifies Theseus words
as an alluding to rape. Theseus choice of words, pomp...triumph...revelling indicate
that he has won her over and has officially made Hippolyta his own. To Theseus,
Hippolyta was a mere conquest, with the sole purpose of proving that no one, not
even the Amazonian queen, can surpass his power. When the play opens,
Hippolyta is no longer the Amazonian warrior queen. She has already been
conquered by Theseus and he obnoxiously reminds her that with the words quoted
above. Levine argues that Shakespeare depicts Theseus turning to theater to alter
the way sexual violence is presented, but ultimately fails to do so. The words
pomp, triumph, and revelling are an indication of theater and acting. The imagery
these words create also supports the transformation of a rape to a legitimate
marriage (Levine, 210). Although, no such thing, meaning the rape, is never
actually exhibited, Levine examines the choice of words spoken by Theseus, and
claims that there is an alluding to something like a rape (210). Furthermore, Levine
delves in the aspect of nature and how it relates to rape. The way nature is described
and through the use of imagery, Levine establishes that Shakespeare included this
rape of nature in order to create a mood. As stated by Levine, Titania claims that

Crime Rate of Children Affected by Domestic Violence Domestic violence has
been a large problem for as long as societies have been around, but more recently in
the past century, it has received more attention. The part of domestic violence that
has gotten the largest amount of awareness is the act of spousal abuse. Between
600,000 and six million women and between 100,000 and six million men are
victims of domestic abuse each year. Of course this is paralleled by the effect on
children. For every family household that a spouse is abused in, if there is a child
there is a large chance that the he or she will be affected by the incident. It is
estimated that about 3.3 million children will witness some type of domestic abuse ...

Shaming is a deliberate effort to attach a negative meaning to a behavior.
Deterrence is a measure that prevents a person from doing something because of
fear of the consequences. Shaming will help establish a norm for a small group of
people, but for most people who feel the need to break norms of society shaming
will not be very effective. Deterrence will be much more effective in preventing
people from committing crimes. There are two types of deterrence: general
deterrence and specific deterrence. General deterrence applies to the general
population that helps ensure that they will not commit crimes in the future. It is the
fear of experiencing consequences that have been applied to others who have
committed the crime. This is the primary method of preventing crime in the world to
create a fear of having negative sanctions brought onto a person if they fail to
follow the norms set out by society. Specific deterrence on the other hand is the
changing of the attitude of individuals who have been or are still being punished by
the law, to deter them from committing crime again. Specific deterrence is effective,
but still flawed as evident by the high recidivist rate. One of the most important
sociological topics is the differential association theory. This theory was created by
Edwin Sutherland and he states that criminal behavior that violates society s norms
is learned. A person learns to commit deviant behavior through his or her
environment, primarily through communication. A person learns not only how to
commit the crime, but also the mindset of how to commit the crime. The learning
process that comes with crime is the same as any other learned idea, it is usually
developed through small intimate groups of people that help shape one s perception
of the world. A person often will see a law as being unfavorable to their previous
dispositions and feel a need to

38. Art And Censorship In Art
Art is supposed for expressing feeling and the visualizing the feeling or thoughts of
the artists. Censorship is the suppression of content, which is defined as harmful,
politically incorrect or sensitive by the authority (cited in Merriam, n.d.). Art and
censorship have been connected for a long period of time together. In the recent
society, the censorship on artworks is one of the most severe issues when it comes to
censorship and the problem happens internationally. Since every individual has the
right to define what is acceptable for him/her or not, instead of the government or
others, Art should not be censored. The censorship on Art may influence the freedom

Nixon begins to force the resignation of his advisors, his Attorney General, and
others who had worked on the CREEP committee. Upon these happenings, cracks
began to appear in President Nixon s sealing and cover ups of Watergate. The
mysterious Deep Throat , jokingly named after a popular pornographic movie title of
the time, became an important press informant that leaked many details to the press
during the height of the Watergate scandal, especially to Washington Post s reporter
Bob Woodward. The identity of Deep Throat still remains a mystery, although
Woodward said of him:
...He was risking a great deal professionally. You may assume that
in the course of this he was not truthful with colleagues and family
members, and he denied that he had provided information.
At this time, there was also the production of Nixon s infamous Enemies List , which
listed many colleagues that Nixon believed to be his political enemies. There was
also a top secret report, published by Daniel Ellsburg, about another truth that Nixon
was trying to cover up The United States true involvement in Southeast Asia (Vietnam
War). This precipitated another break in by the plumbers , this time to Ellsburg s

40. Nucor Driving Forces
What driving forces do you see at work in this industry? Are the likely to impact the
industry s competitive intensity and profitability favorably or unfavorably?
The driving forces in the steel industry would be technology evolution. The change in
the steel making technology has transformed the steel industry. Market growth has a
huge impact in the development of the steel industry, strategies, profitability, and
efficiency. Market and competition is a factor to consider when looking at the long
run of this industry. New innovative technologies such as advance computer systems,
physical models, and artificial intelligence can be used and incorporated in the steel
manufacturing process. The economy also greatly affects the steel industry as ... Show

A competitive approach tends to be the best strategy for this commodity product
industry. Nucor has been successful in reaching relatively low production costs.
Nucor has the ability to build plants inexpensively but also operate them very
efficiently. Nucor has a record of profitability even when times are tough in the
domestic steel industry, showing that Nucor has lower costs relative to other steel
producers. It could also be assumed that Nucor is cost competitive with foreign steel
producers trying to sell their products in the United States.
Is there any reason to believe that Nucor has achieved a sustainable competitive
advantage over its rivals?
Nucor s cost competitiveness is something they have developed over years. It
seems as if a small portion of domestic competitors if any at all even appear to have
costs as low as Nucor. Nucor s management teams have tried not to miss any
opportunities to drive costs down in its business. This would then provide Nucor
with a sustainable low cost advantage over its domestic competitors as well as its
foreign ones attempting to sell steel to customers in the United States.
Have Nucor s recent acquisitions over the past several decades contributed to their

42. Canadas Shame Essay
The infamous Harp (whitecoat) and Hooded (blueback) seal hunt photos have
virtually disappeared from newspapers or television news. That does not mean that
seal hunting in Canada has stopped. The mass killing of seals off Canada
amp;#8217;s East Coast is commercial, cruel, and wasteful, yet despite furious outcry
from Animal Rights activists the government is refusing to take notice. The cruelty
of this extensive killing operation, which starts during the seals amp;#8217; birthing
season, has been denounced for years as amp;#8220;Canada amp;#8217;s Shame. ;
The senseless slaughter of seals springs from the profit they bring, the use of their
pelts for coats, and other products. It has been proven though, ... Show more content

The big commercially owned boats on the other hand have an entirely different
method of killing. Seal pups are gathered up individually and incased in netting
amp;#8211; somewhat like a bag of oranges. Dozens of baby seals in net bags are
packed into wire cages and moved by helicopters to fur farms. After the pups molt,
they are killed. Catching seals in nets unavoidably causes a slow and painful death for
these beautiful mammals.
Seals are mammals, warm blooded like the rest of us. There is nothing in place to
protect them because under Canadian law, these mammals are legally considered to
be fish! Perhaps that is why our government thinks so little about slaughtering these
animals. Perhaps that is why the quotas have been set so high and why both the
Government of Canada and the Government of Newfoundland are now providing
subsidies to entice more fishermen and sport hunters to kill seals. The Government
of Canada is gambling that the public has forgotten about the cruel and bloody
images of the Canadian seal hunt prior to 1984. The truth is, nothing has changed
amp;#8220; amp;#8230;about 220 000 seal pups were killed in 1997 alone. ; And
this statistic does not even take into account the thousands of mature seals being
killed; it amp;#8217;s merely the estimated number of seal pups being massacred.
Consequently the Canadian commercial seal
