Managing Cash Flow Management ( Cfm )
Managing Cash Flow
Cash Flow is composed of revenue or expense streams that change cash accounts over a specified
period. The statement of cash flows showing the amount of cash generated and used by a company
during the period is calculated by adding noncash charges (such as depreciation) to net income after
taxes. Changes in cash are usually derived from one of three activities financing, operations or
investing.
Sales growth can conceal many problems. When managing a growing company, watch expenses
carefully. If you see expenses growing faster than sales, examine costs carefully to find places to
cut or control them.
The lag between the time you have to pay your suppliers and employees and the time you collect
from your customers can be a problem. The solution is cash flow management (CFM). CFM
means delaying disbursements of cash as long as possible while requiring anyone who owes you
money to pay it quickly.
Rules (FASB) that govern the creation of financial statements are not about tracking the actual flow
of cash through your business. They are focused on measuring profit or loss.
Income does not tell you what happened to your cash balance during the period. It merely defines
net income based on the accounting rules used to create the income statement.
Only one component of understanding and managing your cash flow.

Eve Harrington Compare And Contrast
I can say with certainty that the film adaptation did a much better job at presenting the tale of Eve
Harrington than the original short story did, primarily because the movie allowed me to feel for
the characters. In the short story, I didn t get to see what happened, but rather Margola telling what
happened. Unlike the film, there are no flashbacks to the story itself, so I wasn t really able to
actually visualize it. Most of the short storyis just Margola talking to Karen inside the car, so in a
sense, it s neither telling nor showing. It s showing telling, and that isn t very entertaining to see or
imagine. Additionally, because the events surrounding Eve had already happened, I was also unable
to witness how they affected Margola. The

The Importance Of The Federal Budget
Government budgets no matter on the federal or local level are important because they give
insight into what the government s priorities are for that fiscal year. The current budget in
Georgia for the 2017 fiscal year is 43.7 billion dollars. This number is broken down in three areas.
The state s budget is 23.7 billion. The federal budget for the year is 13.7 billion and the other
funds they 6.3 billion. The Great Recession caused a dramatic decrease in state revenues from the
2008 to 2010 fiscal years, falling by $3.6 billion, or 19.2 percent. Revenues improved at a moderate
pace since the 2011 fiscal year and have picked up since 2014, yet inflationadjusted, per capita state
revenue in 2017 is still expected to fall short of pre recession... Show more content on

Program budgeting is a system of managing government expenditures by attempting to compare
the program proposals of all government agencies authorized to achieve similar objectives
(Hyman, 2014). Program budgeting allows decisions to be made regarding which programs will
be offered, to meet the missions, the lowest cost. Incremental budgeting is less drastic, the current
fiscal year serves as the basis for small incremental changes in the next fiscal year. Incremental
budgeting is a pragmatic approach that seeks to minimize the resources that go into the budgetary
process each year and make it easier for governments to enact budgets (Hymn 2014). Cost benefit
analysis estimates and totals up the equivalent money value of the benefits and costs to the
community of projects to establish whether they are worthwhile. These projects may be dams and
highways or can be training programs and health care systems. Externalities that cause market
inefficiencies are either positive or negative. Negative market inefficiencies will cause the people
demand government policies and or procedures to stop these effect such as pollution. Another
impact of market inefficiencies could be lower wages, which could result in more unemployment.
Whether the impact in positive or negative the government plays a role in it. If positive the
government will offer an incentive for this product or service to continue, if negative consequences
can be enforced so that negative effects are

Describe How Current Counselling and Psychotherapy...
Discuss how current counselling and psychotherapy practice emerged from psychiatry and
psychology. Use critical evaluation of theoretical evidence to support discussion points. 2, Analyse
the similarities and differences between psychotherapy and counselling practices using evidence,
aims and objectives relevant to practice and therapeutic need.
Counselling and psychotherapy are very different areas of speciality than psychiatry or psychology.
Yet it is from these two health practices that counselling and psychotherapy practice emerged. The
emergence and beginning of this takes us back initially to 1887, when the specialism of
psychotherapy emerged in psychiatry. In the nineteenth century there was a general shift towards

The understanding and belief of talking therapy underpins psychoanalysis and all other theories that
developed from it.
Freud believed human behavior was not consciously controlled, and credited three parts in the
mind to any psychological activity. These are called the unconscious, the preconscious and the
conscious. Personality too was given three parts, the id, the super ego and the ego. Freud believed
these parts in our mind have their individual parts to play in the way we go about life. He also
stated the only way to work through conflicts that arise from our subconscious and unconscious
mind is through dream analysis and psychoanalysis. Other key concepts in psychodynamic theory
are the psychosexual stages of development, anxiety, defence mechanisms, and free association.
Carl Jung (1875 1961) was a one time friend and colleague of Sigmund Freud, who initially held
similar views to Freud. He started to feel dissatisfied with Freud s ideas though and broke away
from that school of thought in 1913. Jung also had a great interest in mystical and magical subjects,
Buddhism and Hinduism, which influenced Jung s own ideas on a theory of personality. He too,
suggested there were 3 parts; the conscious mind (or ego), the personal unconscious, and the
collective unconscious. The main point of difference between the two men (Jung and Freud) was
Freud s definition of sexuality and libido. Although Jung conceded the importance of the

Fuel Cell Essay
One of the important issues to ensure the safety of a ship in the case of a gas leak is the condition
of air flow inside the fuel cell stack package. Poor air flow increases the risk of fire or explosion by
accumulating leaked gas in one place. Against this backdrop, the installation place for a
ventilating fan and its capacity should be properly decided to make the air flow smooth inside
the package, and an alarm unit and gas detector should be installed at the proper place to detect gas
leak. In this study, we report the characteristics of air flow inside the stack package to ensure the
safety in the case of a gas leak for the 300 kW MCFC stack package model ships by applying CFD
techniques. aimed at the places where leaked gas... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These days, many shipping firms are adopting liquefied natural gas (LNG) as marine fuel in an
attempt to replace conventionally used HFO as a marine fuel.
Such a trend to use LNG in the ship considers to safely utilize Boil off Gas (BOG), and as one of
the options, application of fuel cell to the ship are being considered [5,6].
Fuel cells (FCs), energy storage systems (ESSs), wind power, and sunlight have received significant
attentions as environment friendly energy sources for green vessels in the future [7]. Among these,
FCs have strong potential as an alternatives to traditional marine propulsion power plants owing to
their high efficiency, easy modularization, multi fuel flexibility, and environmental friendliness
[8,9]. In addition, FCs can essentially offer a silent and vibration free operation, reducing the needs
for noise insulation of machinery. In particular, high temperaturemolten carbonate fuel cells
(MCFCs) have various advantages for eco ships, because they achieve the system efficiency of
more than 80% with negligible air pollutant emissions, when used as the waste heat. Furthermore, it
may be highly efficient economically for gas transport ships to utilize fuel such as LNG and
liquefied H2 carriers, since MCFCs can use the BOG emitted from the LNG ship [10,11]. However,
developments of MCFC green ships are still in a primitive

Gustave Courbet s Reclining Nude Essay
Gustave Courbet s Reclining Nude
In the Philadelphia Museum of Art are five paintings by Gustave Courbet; of all of these I found
Reclining Nude (1868, Oil on canvas, The Louis
Stern Collection, 63 81 20) the most interesting. It depicts a nude woman lying on the beach
beneath a billowing canopy. A dark, but tranquil sea is in the background. The sky is dark as if the
final rays of the sun were disappearing over the horizon. There are a few clouds in the sky, they are
dark but not threatening. The picture is very dark in general and there is no obvious light source.
The edges of the painting are so dark it is impossible to tell what the nude reclines against.
A very dim light falls on the woman, who lies on her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is not covered enough, however, for one to believe she has any shame for appearing in so
public a place in such a position; this, too, would have been found scandalous in the 1860 s. Now,
however, compared to such displays of sexuality and nudity as found in magazines such as
Penthouse and Playgirl or X rated movies, the picture is perceived as a modest, proper display of
sexuality. Today there is nothing offensive about the woman s display of sexuality.
One other reason that the critics and public would have found this picture offensive is that to
them this is not a display of nudity, but a display of nakedness. The woman is perceived as
naked rather than nude, because she is not in a classical setting or an important person portrayed
in a classical setting. This is not a picture of a nude Venus rising from the sea foam or a nude
Psyche with her adoring Cupid. This woman is not even a rich patroness being portrayed in one of
the classical settings.
This woman could be any fair haired woman;whe is a common woman, most likely the artist s
mistress or even a prostitute. Her nudity is for sensual display, not for classical purposes, therefore
it was perceived as nakedness and therefore obscene.
Though the woman in combination with her surroundings may have been offensive, there is
nothing offensive about her surroundings alone. The setting is a beach at nightfall. In the
foreground one sees a bright scarlet cloth lying on a

In his comparison he has shown how the adults are so like these children running to and fro
without any supervision. Though, the comparison may seem absurd initially, but starts to make
sense as we move forward. Golding has stick to has ideology throughout the novel without any
trace of humour. Most of the satires presented in the novel are dark and bitter in their own way.
The first and the foremost satire is on civilization. In this era of moving forward with civilization
and civilized people, the people still think of going to war. He highlights the destruction, evil
and fear in human mind. During the start of the novel we see the boys end up in an uninhabited
island. The reason of the plane crash remains unknown. The probable reason being the effect of
World War II. Mostly it is a political satire. Both Ralph and Jack symbolize leadership. While
most the leaders would related themselves to the Ralph and not the hated Jack, but the twist
remains that it Jack who is the actual leader. This comparison has been made to mock the leaders
of the world. Ralph the kind of person how we would want our leaders to actually be. This
comparison reflects the difference between our dreams and ideals and the reality really is. People

The oxides
The oxides we ll be looking at are:
|Na2O |MgO |Al2O3 |SiO2 |P4O10 |SO3 |Cl2O7 |
| | | | |P4O6 |SO2 |Cl2O |
Those oxides in the top row are known as the highest oxides of the various elements. These are the

What you can safely say is that because the metallic oxides and silicon dioxide have giant
structures, the melting and boiling points are all high.
Electrical conductivity
Silicon dioxide doesn t have any mobile electrons or ions so it doesn t conduct electricity either as a
solid or a liquid.
The molecular oxides
Phosphorus, sulphur and chlorine all form oxides which consist of molecules. Some of these
molecules are fairly simple others are polymeric. We are just going to look at some of the simple
ones.
Melting and boiling points of these oxides will be much lower than those of the metal oxides or
silicon dioxide. The intermolecular forces holding one molecule to its neighbors will be van der
Waals dispersion forces or dipole dipole interactions. The strength of these will vary depending on
the size of the molecules.
None of these oxides conducts electricity either as solids or as liquids. None of them contains ions
or free electrons.
The phosphorus oxides
Phosphorus has two common oxides, phosphorus (III) oxide, P4O6, and phosphorus (V) oxide,
P4O10.
Phosphorus (III) oxide (tetraphosphorus hexoxide)
Phosphorus (III) oxide is a white solid, melting at 24В°C and boiling at 173В°C.
The phosphorus is using only three of its outer electrons (the 3 unpaired p electrons) to form bonds
with the oxygens.
Phosphorus (V) oxide (tetraphosphorus decoxide)
Phosphorus (V) oxide is also a white solid, subliming (turning straight

Religion In The Second Great Awakening
Prior to the 1800 s, English began to colonize North America to gain religious freedom and
tolerance. As a result there were many groups and branches of many religions that fled to the 13
colonies as there were also those who settled in North America to escape religion, rather than find
religious freedom. Separation between church and state showed how the founding fathers tried to
not allow religionto shape or affect politics. However the Second Great Awakening and the
Presidential election of 1800 demonstrated clearly how politics is influenced by religion.
Therefore, between 1800 and 1848, just a span of 48 years, religion shaped the politics of the
United States. Church and State were set apart by the founding fathers for the sole reason that North
America was colonized, by the English, to escape religious persecution. Consequently, America was
a melting pot of people practicing their different faiths and beliefs. In the 1800 s, after the
ratification of the Bill of Rights, the first amendment supported the idea of this separation by stating
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion. This acknowledged the
religious freedom that the United States government bestowed on American citizens.... Show more

those branches many new members. Politics was affected by the Second Great Awakening, not
only because it was a religious revival in the 1800 s, but because of the butterfly effect that it caused
within the United States. In result to the Second Great Awakening, other reform movements
occurred such as: the Women s suffrage movement, the Temperance movement, and the abolition
movement. These different movements helped shape the country and its government immensely, as
it all started from the Second Great

For my first duty station, I was assigned to Mountain Home AFB in Idaho. I arrived there in May

Essay on Student Athletes Should Not Be Paid
Student Athletes Should Not Be Paid In the world of college athletics there are endless topics
discussed daily and most pertain to money. An issue that falls under this category includes the
heated debate involving whether or not student athletes should receive money. Many people say
student athletes should receive compensation according to their specific needs because they spend
so much time earning their scholarship and have no time to work. On the other hand, the stronger
argument is student athletes should not be able to acquire additional funds in order to help aid
them through college. An athlete knows what he or she is involving themselves in before any

Actions towards paying athletes are being taken and according to the TCU Daily Skiff, There s
a legislation being passed around in the Big 12 states to provide athletes with an extra stipend in
addition to their all expenses paid education. The idea is that these students are producing
truckloads of revenue for the university and should see some of the fruits of their labor.
(Jennings, par. 2) Because athletes aren t paid for producing such money, supporters feel some
of the money made should go towards helping with extra expenses. An average student athlete
has to pay for phone bills, transportation, entertainment, laundry, toiletries and other things. While
the typical college student has the opportunity to work, athletes don t. Some students in college
receive academic full ride scholarships, which are the same as athletic full rides, but they have
time to earn extra money on the side. If these students are receiving a full ride scholarship and
have the opportunity to work then an athlete should be paid a compensation for his or her efforts
on the playing field. On the contrary, there is a reason the NCAA has not passed a law saying
athletes should be paid and numerous reasons support this view. In fact according to NCAA
rules, Section 2, Title V reads, It is a violation of the NCAA rules for athletes to accept money or
gifts while intending to remain eligible. (Way, par. 16) There is a reason for this law and why it
has not changed. Individuals

Existentialism And The Beliefs Of The Movement
Losing all hope was freedom. One of the most powerful quotes in Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk
that is a good summary of existentialism and the beliefs of the movement. Existentialism was a
turning point for society and literature that advocated the expansion of the minds of authors and
their readers so we could improve our thinking to be more enlightened and free. The movement
sparked much alternative thinking to allow our society to grow into what it is today and without it
people would most likely be more close minded and less free. Existentialismwas a very influential
movement with many impactful authors and will forever be remembered in history because of it s
unique ideas about the existence of the individual person as a free and responsible agent
determining their own development through acts of the will and how it shifted a culture.
Existentialism is a philosophical idea within ethics that was developed in the 19th century and
progressed heavily into the 20th century. Some basic foundational ideas of existentialism are found
in early Buddhist and Christian writings, which may have been the starting point for the movement.
Also, like existentialism s previous philosophical ideas that came before it, it rebels against
traditional Western thought that believes rationality and consciousness are the key points to
understanding the human condition. According to Jean Paul Sartre, a famous existentialist,
existence precedes and rules essence (Andrea 665). A clearer way

Effects Of Environment On The Environment
In many distinctive instants, change does not occur until something drastic happens; only then do
people begin to come to awareness. According to Physicians for Social Responsibilities ,
environmental factors are estimated to be responsible for approximately 80% of cancer diagnosis
and deaths in the U.S. alone. Children, animals, and life everywhere are suffering due to
consequences of environmental hazards. The detrimental consequences of unprotected
environments are much greater than many perceive; therefore, by limiting harmful methods of
environmental destruction and raising awareness these consequences may be decreased. The
amount of contamination in the Earth s water and atmosphere has increased tremendously over the
years. Factors such as fossil fuel combustion, water pollution, deforestation, toxic chemicals, and a
multitude of others all contribute greatly to the environmental harm that is being faced today.
Investigation has brought out evidence that pernicious industrial chemicals seem to be more
widespread throughout the environmentthan anticipated. The abundance of pollutants exposed to
the air and water we rely on may cause a variety of health defects and problematic issues to human,
animal, and plant life everywhere. Urban development, farming, deforestation, and the building of
dams have crippling effects on both the environments and the species that thrive in those locations.

A number of notable technological innovations have taken place between the years 1860 1870 in

The Death Comes By Charles Wyville Thomson, Commander Of...
Death comes easily. Death comes with diseases spread by people living in close quarters. Death
comes with a lack of nutrients from insufficient food. Death comes with a misstep that leads to a
plunge into rough, frigid ocean waters. These statements are especially true on board a ship at sea
during the time prior to the 20th century. When people know that death is very likely in a certain
situation but still agree to participate in the situation anyway, they posses a characteristic known as
courage. Two examples of courageous men are Zheng Heand Charles Wyville Thomson,
commanders of very different ocean voyages, and both of these men led their respective crew
members towards death with the hopes of conquering or exploring new lands. Zheng He, a
worker for the emperor of the Ming Dynasty of China, commanded a giant fleet including 27,000
Chinese soldiers and sailed as far as the Arabian peninsula and the eastern coast of Africa in seven
different voyages, starting in 1405 (Dreyer 1). Charles Wyville Thomson, a scientist from Britain,
commanded a voyage aboard the HMS Challenger with less than 250 crew members (Bishop). In

Why Is Gallipoli Successful
The galipoli campaign lasted from April 25th until the end of January 2016.. The campaign was
a disaster and was understood as unsuccessful. Upon arrival at Anzac cove soldiers noticed the
very steep terrain above the beach. There are many reasons why the campaign was unsuccessful.
One of the reasons is the unorganised planning and poor command. The main prolem was the
Mediterranean Expeditionary Force (MEF) as the size of the force was far too little for the
operation. Normally in warfare the attacker needs to have a bigger size team then the defender
however the MEF only hade 70, 000 men which was equivalent to one fifth of the opposing team.
Both sides kept recruiting more men however it was easier for te ottomans to get more men to

Bringing Adam Home Essay
Bringing Adam Home Book Review
Abstract
Bringing Adam Home review examines the story of the decades long investigation into the
abduction and murder of 6 year old Adam Walsh. The police investigation took 27 years to prove
guilt of the serial killer, Ottis Toole, who made multiple confessions to the murder. The book is
written by the experienced detective writer Les Standiford with the help of the retired detective Joe
Matthews, who finally found evidence of Toole s committing the murder 27 years afterwards. The
case of Adam Walsh has influenced the American society in the way that legislatures were made

As Reve Walsh put it: It was a sad thing for this country that the fight had to be led by two broken
down parents of a murdered child (Standiford, 2001).
The authors underscore that it could not be said that the Hollywood department was
incompetent. Rather that the case was too difficult, and Detective Hoffman turned out to be too
snobbish not only to ask for help but also to accept help from Joe Matthews when he offered it
not once. Hoffman was too unstructured and ill equipped for such mind bogging case
(Standiford, 2001).Det. Serg. Matthews was a lie detector expert and an experiences homicide
detective and, being hired by the Hollywood, Fl, Police Department, he was very interested by the
case and was ready to use his knowledge to solve the case. Among other things, the difference in
approaches of two detectives was that Hoffman was obsessed with finding physical evidences
linking Toole to the Adam s murder; while Matthews believed that circumstantial evidence could
make do in some cases.
That meticulous recount of all glaring mistakes of the Hollywood, Fl, police department and the
detailed description of their daily working life had its aim in showing that detectives work is far
from the glamorized TV series. Doing on a daily basis such boring chores as searching for a
person who moved and did not leave the new address, or surveilling a suspect for many days,
exhaust detectives, and the not very dedicated ones let things slide (Standiford,

Accused In The Crucible
Topic/Question: What are the dangers of making accusations without proper regard for evidence?
The founding fathers of our Constitution held firmly to the principle of justice in which Every man
is presumed innocent until he is proven guilty. There have been several episodes in history in which
communities violate this principle and allow unsubstantiated accusations to drive their justice
system. As depicted in Arthur Miller s The Crucible, during the Salem witch trials, to be accused of
witchcraft was to be guilty. To be guilty meant a death sentence, which could only be avoided if one
was to confess their guilt and to identify other afflicted girls. During the McCarthy era, a strikingly
similar situation aroused when suspected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
McCarthy stated that the state department harbors a nest of communists...who are helping to shape
our foreign policy. I have in possession the names of 57 communists who are in the State
department at present. As a student, I was brought in for questioning with the drug incident
because of my association with a student with whom I had carpooled. In this way, I can connect
to Tituba, who eventually did give into the pressure of Reverend Hale to say names of others,
including Goody Good and Goody Osbourn. Putnam suspected these women of witchcraft when he
suggested their names during Hale s interrogation of Tituba in the Parris household. Even though
Tituba had not personally experienced their forms of witchcraft firsthand, she admitted that she
had seen these women always talking; always runnin round and carryin on (with the devil)...

The Lesson Judith Ortiz Cofer
Bitterness: The Tone In The Lesson and American History The environment an individual lives
in and the role that it plays in their life are certainly factors to be acknowledged. Individuals pick
up habits from their family, friends, and neighbors and unfortunately in most cases, it makes the
process of accepting the realities of life much slower to such an extent that apathy and ignorance
presents itself and what proves to be catastrophic for the social society of today s world. Others
fail to recognize the importance of gaining knowledge in a minority majority society that
struggles with poverty, and it is because of that failure, apathy and ignorance begins to grow as

Also, Bambara and Cofer both write these stories from their own experience and is very well
expressed with their choice of writing these stories in fictional communities. It is invariably true
that both stories present a bittersweet and bitter tone due to both author s use of symbolism. In
order to display a bittersweet and bitter tone, Toni Cade Bambara effectively conveys the
message of her story with the use of symbolism such as imagery. Throughout Bambara s story,
the main character Sylvia is introduced to the reader as a young black girl growing up in
harlem. Sylvia initially gives off a sense of bitterness to Miss Moore; the only educated person in
the neighborhood, who decides to take some of the children including Sylvia on a trip to F.A.O.

Stylistic Patterns In Darkness And Darkness By Joseph Marowe
Stylistic texture as part of the implicit characterization process is established as a characteristic of
the literary text. First, the reader/audience is faced with the question of the way individual
sentences of a speech relate to one another. Whether they are connected in a strictly logical way,
whether they form a more associative series, they always emphasize the structure of a character s
level of awareness. All significant deviations from the normal frequencies in the areas of syntactic
and lexical selection and combination can also serve to delineate a character: the frequency of
certain sentence types (such as statements or questions), the predominance of active or passive
forms, the use of parallelisms and antitheses, an abstract or... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

But fixed now in the meridian line,

And cause the sun to borrow light of you; (p.44)
This is a form of expression which Marlowe nowhere else uses as often as in this play. Marlowe
can use imagery to differentiate his characters, for example, Bajazeth s speeches contain images
from the underworld and are full of monsters and darkness,
... sacrifice my heart to death and hell,
Before I yield to such a slavery. (p.43)
Then, as I look down to the damned fiends,
Fiends, look on me! and thou, dread god of hell. (p.44)
Tamburlaine speaks of the frame of heaven, the triple region of the air, his imagery referring to the
heavens and the classical heroes. The playwright ultimate goal was amplification. Tamburlaine s
speech is not redundant rhetoric, but it seems rational and also it seems to express what will happen.
There are sections in the play which compare Tamburlaine with rulers whose incapacity is marked
by their linguistic disability. Mycetes finds himself insufficient to express his sense of grievance,
other people have to speak for him, and his own attempts to speak lose themselves in mixed

The History Of Heroin
Heroin, which is a very popular drug of choice in the American drug culture today, is not a new
drug that just showed up in the late 1960 s, nor are its negative effects unique to modern times.
Heroin is an opium derivative and, as with any of the opium derivatives, there is a severe physical
/mental dependency that develops when Heroinis abused.
The Birth of the American Heroin Addict
In the mid to late 1800 s, opium was a fairly popular drug. Opium dens were scattered throughout
what we know today as the Wild West. The opium influx during this period was due in large part to
the drug being brought into the country via Chinese immigrants who came here to work on the
railroads.

Even though no actual statistics were kept on addiction at this time, the problem had grown to
large enough proportions to raise serious concerns from the medical profession. Doctors became
perplexed and were completely in the dark as to how to treat this new epidemic.
By 1874 the answer to this increasing problem was thought to be found in the invention of a new
drug in Germany. This new wonder drug was called Heroin, after its German trademarked name.
Heroin was imported into the United States shortly after it was invented. The sales pitch that
created an instant market to American doctors and their morphine addicted patients was that Heroin
was a safe, non addictive substitute for morphine.
Hence, the heroin addict was born and has been present in American culture ever since.
From the late 1800 s to the early 1900 s the reputable drug companies of the day began
manufacturing over the counter drug kits. These kits contained a glass barreled hypodermic
needle and vials of opiates (morphine or heroin) and/or cocaine packaged neatly in attractive
engraved tin cases. Laudanum (opium in an alcohol base) was also a very popular elixir that was
used to treat a variety of ills. Laudanum was administered to kids and adults alike as freely as

Essay on Bacons Rebellion
Bacon s Rebellion
quot;Where we do well know that all our causes will be impartially heard and equally justice
administered to all men, quot; as stated by, Nathaniel Bacon. 1 In
1676 an uprising known as Bacon s Rebellion occurred in Virginia. The immediate cause of this
revolt was the dissension between the planters and the Indians.
Because Sir William Berkeley, the Governorof Virginia had willingly denied support to the farmers,
Bacon assumed leadership of an unauthorized expedition against the Indians. When Bacon learned
that Governor Berkeley was rising a force against him, he turned away from the Indians to fight
with Berkley. This had now become a serious problem for the governor. When news of this revolt

Unfortunately Governor Sir William Berkeley was not living up to those standards.
Berkeley did not care about the farmers. It was obvious that the only thing he cared about was
making money. The event that sparked the rebellion occurred when the Indians attacked the
farmers. Normally these farmers were expecting to receive help from the governor. They became
irritated when the governor did not support them. Through the eyes of the freemen this was seen as
a big mistake.
Because the governor did not give them the support, they had to take matters into their own hands.
After defeating the Indians, the unofficially elected
Nathaniel Bacon took charge. When he led his men into town to form an assembly, it would be the
first assembly in fifteen years. After the long struggle and hard fought battle these freemen
received their gift. They were finally able to appeal a law that denied their right to vote. They were
now considered legal voters. Another important aspect of democracy is social equality. During the
17th century in Virginia, people were either wealthy or poor. The proprietors held the wealth,
while the plantation workers in Virginia were poor. In addition the farmers had no rights. The
freemen had to be taxed and there was nothing they could do about it. It did not hurt the rich to be
taxed because they could afford it. When the lower class

Fiber Optic Cable, Transmitter and Receiver Characteristics
Today many communications companies are replacing their copper carrier wires with fiber
optic cables. A fiber optic cable is capable of transmitting laser light across thousands of miles
and can carry many more messages at the same time than the copper wire of equivalent diameter.
With the relentless pursuit of bandwidth, fiber optic cabling is being deployed at an ever
increasing rate. This cable, which uses glass to carry light pulses, poses both advantages and
challenges. The intent of this paper is to explain the how s and why s of fiber optic cabling and to

By installing fiber optic cabling, the high cost of labor and the time associated with the cabling
plant can be expected to provide service for the projected future.
Plastic Optical Fiber (POF) technology is making fiber even more affordable and easier to install.
Because the core is plastic instead of glass, terminating the cable is easier. The trade off for this
lower cost and ease of installation is shorter distance capabilities and bandwidth limitations.
2.0 Fiber Construction Fiber optic cabling has the following components (starting in the center
and working out): core, cladding, coating, strength member, and jacket. The design and function
of each of these will be defined. The core is in the very center of the cable and is the medium of
propagation for the signal. The core is made of silica glass or plastic (in the case of POF) with a
high refractive index. The actual core is very small (compared to the wire gauges we are used
to). Typical core sizes range from 8 microns (millionth of a meter) for single mode silica glass
cores up to 1000 microns for multi mode POF. The cladding is a material of lower index of
refraction which surrounds the core. This difference in index forms a mirror at the boundary of
the core and cladding. Because of the lower index, it reflects the light back into the center of the
core, forming an optical wave guide. This is the same effect as looking out

Explain the role of discretion in the criminal justice system.
As a society we believe that offenders should be held accountable for their actions but also treated
fairly in the criminal investigation, trial process and sentencing. As a result of this, the power of

ensure some flexibility for decision making within the system, enabling a more holistic outcome for

Meanwhile, Don Weatherburn as director of BOCSCAR expressed his concern as he stated; it is
naГЇve to imagine that a young offender, after years of involvement in crime, will suddenly become
law abiding . As a result, police discretion is a very important aspect of prosecuting juvenile
crime, as it is clear that in some cases going to court should be the outcome for young offenders.
However the role of discretion for police lies in being able to decide which cases and which
circumstances warrant the result of court, as opposed to the multiple alternative forms of
punishment that police have the power to enforce.
A controversial aspect of the criminal justice system is the Crown s use of discretion when it
decides to make charge negotiations. This means that the crown offers the accused a lesser
charge should they plead guilty to it. In doing so, the crown benefits from the assured conviction
(maintaining peace and security by an efficient means) and the accused benefits from a lesser
sentence. However by employing powers of discretion in this case and making a deal with
offenders, is seems to be at the expense of victims as there if insufficient retribution. The case of
Nannette May (2009) epitomises the concern of victims, as May was not given a chance to give

Abstract:
The essay examines evolution of popular music, experiences and how the public understood it
between 1918 and 1939. During this period, a national culture dance was developed in England.
Evolution process was marked with transformation of popular dance forms, affordable and easily
dances places and a national wide dancing practice. Evolvement of a dance culture was instrumental
in creation of a national identity. People understood what it meant to be British. There was an
English style of ballroom dancing, thematic content such as the popular Lambeth walk. To reduce
American influence on English music, British ballroom dancers tried to create British music free
of American influence. Through adaptation of different dancing styles, they presented what they
believed to be the real British identity. Introduction: In the words of Victor Sylvester, ballroom
dancing was an activity which could not be cut off or separated from the world; it was an activity
which was influenced by surrounding occurrences. Change in occasions such as fashion, war music
and social upheavals all played an important role in influencing the dancing scene. He observed that
external forces influenced performance as well as evolution of dancing (Sylvester, 1927). Rather
than concentrating how dancing was influenced by occurrences such as war or change of fashion,

The author of 4 Amazing Stretches for Injury Prevention Caitlyn Carlson says, The therapist uses
their body as leverage to create traction and gently moves your limbs in a wave like motion
(Carlson). The physical therapist will focus on treating and strengthening the injured area or
muscle while trying to prevent the injury from getting worse. The massage therapist will massage
and relax the injured area to help the body to not feel the pain of the injury as bad as the initial pain
was. After females encounter an injury, a helpful way to treat it is to go to a therapist and get them
to stretch out any stiff muscles that can cause many further injuries. Females need to work on their
muscles and get them stretched when injured. Getting a plan from the therapist to do this at home
can also help prevent any future injuries.
One of the main issues that female athletes run into is that the media tends to focus on the male
injuries and the severity of their injuries and completely overlook the females injuries. Male
athletes may look like they play sports that are tougher than females do, for example football, but
the way female bodies are made they are more prone to get injured in their athletic endeavors.
Schmerling emphasizes this issue in The Gender Gap in Sports Injuries, saying, you might think
that sports injuries are more common among male than female athletes. That may be true for
college and NFL football players, since nearly all are male.

According to The New Yorker magazine, by the 1960 s, Warhol had become one of the most

second half of the 20th century . The Pop art movement 1950 s , marked an important new stage
in the breakdown between high and low art forms, Modernist critics were horrified by the pop
artists use of such low subject matter and by their apparently uncritical treatment of it . instead it
turned to themes which touched on public life and mass society including advertisement, product

earlier commercial inspired artwork is viewed as the arena in which he first learned to manipulate

Theme Of The Poem 1958 By Gwendolyn Mcewen
In the poem 1958, Gwendolyn MacEwen describes the high school environment as it would have
been in the late 1950 s. Popular fads among the teenagers during this era are explored in detail. The
prevailing theme throughout the text pertains to the idea of belonging. The poem focuses primarily
on the desire teenagers have to fit in. Throughout this response I will explore the ways in which
this poem differs and relates to the high schoolenvironment today. Secondly I will analyze the
connections between this poem and a modern day movie. Lastly, I will express the ways in
which my personal experiences relate to the central message in the poem. Several elements of
the high school environment during the late 1950 s still exist today. The author mentions that,
those guys spoke in crazy cryptic monosyllables . This statement is still relevant today; however
teenage boys now speak in a form of speech referred to as gangster slang . Typical words include
sup or peace which are used to express phrases such as how are you? or see you later. In the poem
McEwen says that, those girls said nothing and were mean and cracked gum . Mean girls still
continue to grace the school hallways glaring at those more vulnerable. These girls tend to be the
masterminds behind vicious rumours that spread like wildfire throughout the school. McEwen
mentions that the boys learned shop and the girls sewed shaky seams in the dresses they would

generations working under a single roof. By these generations working under a single roof there
are many contradictions and differences right from the value systems to how each generations see
the work. So motivating each generation to achieve their goal is a huge task even for the leading
managers.
Work motivation is described as the psychological processes that direct, energize, and maintain
action toward a job, task, role, or project (Campbell Pritchard, 1976; Kanfer, 1990). Work
motivation is a set of energetic forces that originate both within as well as beyond an individual s

Flappers In The 1920 s
The ways of a flapper spread through the United States in the 1920s and changed young girls into a
new generation as modern woman declaring a new freedom. The new emancipated women
demanded to be recognized as equal to men. The flappers adopted the masculine look and started
getting different haircuts and wearing very different clothes. Flappers were known for wearing an
excessive amount of makeup, drinking and smoking, dancing, voting, and being very promiscuous.
From these liberating circumstances emerged a caricature: the flapper, symbol of the modern woman
(Info Base). Flappers are mostly known for what they wore; they were the first to wear shorter
dresses above the knee. Before flappers, only prostitutes wore short dresses. Also, until having...

Most flappers would wear an excessive amounts of makeup, especially lipstick, out in public.
Also, many women prior to this time would not smoke or drink publicly. However, since the
women wanted to be seen as equals and have all the privileges of men, they would drink and
smoke publicly and did not care what others thought of them. Flappers would display their jewelry
very openly; Critics saw the apparatus of prostitutes afflicting respectable society (Info Base).
Along with the change to short dresses, the women s beliefs changed as well. Many flappers
decided to throw their morals and values away and engaged in premarital sex. Also, commitment to
marriage itself changed and marriages seemed to end in divorce most of the time. Many of the
women in this time period had prominent changes in their mindset and actions. They would engage
in very promiscuous dancing, drink and smoke in public, wear promiscuous clothing, and decided
not to care about what society had to think about them. They were only concerned with their own

Yellow Paint Halsy Meaning
Everyone Has a Yellow Paint
A common myth that is told about Vincent Van Gogh is that he ate yellow paint to make
himself happier. He was said to want to paint his insides with yellow paint so it could make his
organs bright and overall make him happy. Many thought that this was very dumb and that the
paint would kill him. Paint is poisonous and could kill you, but it is not far off from what drugs
do to the human body. Drugs affect people s mood but the overall effect to the body is horendous.
Drugs damage organs in the body and can causes people to slowly die. Vincent Van Goghused
colors to literally make him feel a certain way, similarly to how the artist Halsey uses colors

How to Start and Manage a Successful Business
The high failure rate of business start ups has become common knowledge over time. According
to the study by Van de Ven, Ar, Hudson, R and Schroeder (1984), the survival of a business over a
short term period of about a year and half is 54% and 25% over a period of six years. This means
that the failure rate of businessstart ups is a high 75%. Although studies show that business start ups
have a high failure rate, strategic business and financial planning, good managementand marketing
skills are important factors to consider to avoid failure and to be a successful business. As an
aspiring entrepreneur that wants to start a new business, they have to make sure that they have a

The usual start up costs involve a start up fee for the business, down payment or rental for the
building on location, inventory, utilities, insurance, etc. Because there is a wide array of
businesses to choose from, every new business start up costs will vary. Some of the start up
costs will include one time fees and on going fees. Consulting a financial planner would be very
helpful and beneficial during this stage and through the on going stages of the business. One of
the main purposes of a business is to make money; therefore, consulting with a financial planner
will provide financial strategies to help the business grow and increase revenue. The third stage
in a new business start up is management. Having good management skills are important to the
success of a business. A business needs good leadership that will move the business in the right
direction towards growth and success especially through the changes that the economy

The Memory Palace Of Matteo Ricci Analysis
Matteo Ricci was a born in Italy in 1552. He became a Jesuit and went a mission to China in
1583. He lived out the rest of his twenty seven years in China, bringing in Western culture and
technology, while learning about what China had to offer. In his novel, The Memory Palace of
Matteo Ricci, Jonathan Spence retells Ricci s life story, while also adding information about the
world at the time. Spence tells Ricci s story in an interesting way, by assigning Chinese
characters and images that he believes Ricci would have used in his memory palace, a fictional
tool to remember what that took place during his life. The memory palace works by assigning
memories to a character or image, so when you think of the image, you can remember the
memories associated with it. Spence then breaks up the chapters separately by each image or
character and talks about the history and story from Ricci s life associated with the image or
character. This essay will primarily focus on chapter four of the novel, though a summary of the
themes of chapter six is included as well. In chapter four Spence largely discusses the three main
religions of the Western world, Christianity, Islam, and Judaism, and then draws parallels with the
three largest religions in Chinaat the time, Confucianism, Buddhism, and Daoism. However, these
examples are not the only instances where a trio of three religions and belief systems are present.

The highest part of the social class structure was the emperor. Emperors had to ability to have
multiple wives and many slaves to assist with their everyday needs and wants. The advisors

The Fashion Design Of Chanel
It has been over a century since Mademoiselle Chanel, determined to reform the concept of
femininity as much in style as in the essence, commissioned the chemist Ernest Beaux to develop
what will become the symbol of international perfumery. Chanel No. 5 is unquestionably the most
legendary ever made fragrance, described as an opera of olfactory art. Independent, unconventional,
and provocative, CocoChaneltransformed her unfamiliar name into an obligatory reference point
for fashion design of the twentieth. As an icon of female strength, she translates the complexity and
elegance that characterize the woman, with the creation of what would become the scent par
excellence. Her way of conceiving the perfumeis peculiar. When asked where to put the perfume
she replies: A woman should wear a fragrance wherever she expects to be kissed ( A Woman ). Coco
also launches what turned out, according to the instructions of the designer, had to embody a
concept of femininity timeless, unique, and fascinating. The avant garde idea of Chanel breaks
every scheme imagining her fragrance for a modern and independent woman, far from the
stereotype that envisages she should perfume of roses. Hence, Chanel No. 5 is the first perfume that
rejects the convention and symbolizes the technological and cultural innovation, furthering the
women s empowerment.
Chanel No. 5 is a concentration of absolute femininity that shook the world of fragrances forever

Critical Analysis Of Eric Schlosser s Your Trusted Friends
Oftentimes, writers of argumentative essays will explicitly state their claim, establishing a position
on a topic in a clear and concise manner. In doing so, writers arguments are essentially more
effective in representing the chosen subject matter. In Your Trusted Friends , investigative journalist
Eric Schlosser writes that Walt Disneyand Ray Kroc perfected the art of selling to children,
however, this writing is laced with numerous, hidden, implications. Schlosser s work
subconsciously suggests that companies like Disney and McDonald s prey on children in order to
gain profit. This, therefore, makes his argument weak overall, since instead of blatantly expressing
his opinion, he leaves his audienceto guess about the overall purpose of the piece.
Throughout the writing, Schlosser provides historical and statistical information about both the
businessmen, Disney and Kroc, and their individual companies. In the third paragraph, he writes
about the shared experiences between the men, from growing up in the same hometown to serving
in in the same World War I ambulance corps (Schlosser 184). He then lists examples of how the
men s failures in their humble beginnings eventually led to success. Schlosser writes that the men,
for example, focused more on strengthening their marketing strategies and standing in as authority
figures instead of wasting time on attempts to add new dishes to the McDonald s menu or trying to
write and animate Disney cartoons (Schlosser 184). In

The Importance Of Slavery In Mansfield Park
Mansfield Park is an interesting tale that involves the clashing ideals of the upper and lower
classes. One could say that it is based in racial tension and imperialism, and many would agree.
George E. Boulukos, author of The Politics of Silence: Mansfield Park and the Amelioration of
Slavery, believes that a one of the primary conflicts of Mansfield Parksurrounds the legality and
morality of the slave trade in England. Boulukos presents that the amelioration of slaves, or in
layman s terms, the improving of conditions for slaves, was a key focus of conflict between
Fanny and her Uncle. The context of amelioration makes sense of the one scene in which the
slave trade is discussed in Mansfield Park. Because Fanny s discussion with her uncle is
followed by a dead silence, her reference to the slave trade has been taken as a reminder of the
Bertrams shameful dependence on a business they would prefer to pass over in silence.
(Boulukos362) Mansfield Park was written by Jane Austen, and this scandalous novel is still
making a splash in today s world. In 1999, Austen fans were treated with a film by Patricia Rozema
that bears the same name and premise as Mansfield Park. The film, presents the conflicting thoughts
on slaverythrough the vocalization and arguing of two characters. In the film, as Fanny is being
taken to Mansfield Park she sees a slave ship bearing black cargo. She is puzzled by this and the
driver explains that a doctor may bring home a dark play thing

Liturgical Theology Chapter Summary
Chan, Simon. Liturgical Theology: The Church as Worshiping Community. Downers Grove, IL:
IVP Academic, 2006. Simon Chan, in his book Liturgical Theology: The Church as Worshiping
Community, challenges the Evangelical Pentecostal worldview through the lens of liturgy and
sacrament. As a theologian in the Assemblies of God denomination, Chan poses the question, of
whether the church is an instrument to accomplish God s purpose in creation or an expression of
God s ultimate purpose itself. This is expressed through the term divine humanity, each chapter
slowly begins to unravel how the church should strive to be the object Christ to the world, thus
becoming its identity. The focus of the book began to combine such an expression of liturgical
theology in the Pentecostal mindset. Chan engages the reader to critically analyze why church
progressions are made in certain ways, as well as why we believe what we believe in the
Pentecostal view. Shmeman, Aleksandr. For the Life of the World: Sacraments and Orthodoxy.

Theme Of Women In The Canterbury Tales
In Thousand and One Nights and Canterbury Tales, both women in the story are fighting to save
their kingdom. In Thousand and One Nights, Shahrazad volunteered to stay with the king hoping to

teaches the Knight a lesson. These womenare very important in both stories because they step up to
make a change in their kingdom. In Thousand and One Nights, Shahrazad has volunteered to marry
the king, knowing that he kills the women he sleeps with the next morning (p.554). Shahrazad s
plan is to tell him stories every night with each one being better than the last (p.554). The king will

king how to restore order in his own realm and his own soul (p.554).
The first night with the king, she asked if she could tell her sister goodbye before daybreak, so
her sister came and slept under the bed (p.566). Shahrazad s sister asked her to tell a story, so she
asked permission from the king (p.566). She told a story of the Merchant and the Demon and in
the middle of the story she fell asleep, leaving the king full of curiosity to hear the rest (p.568). The
next night the king asked her to finish her story and this went on for many nights (p.568). On the
fourth night, the king thought, By God, I will not have her put to death until I hear the rest of the

  • 2. Managing Cash Flow Management ( Cfm ) Managing Cash Flow Cash Flow is composed of revenue or expense streams that change cash accounts over a specified period. The statement of cash flows showing the amount of cash generated and used by a company during the period is calculated by adding noncash charges (such as depreciation) to net income after taxes. Changes in cash are usually derived from one of three activities financing, operations or investing. Sales growth can conceal many problems. When managing a growing company, watch expenses carefully. If you see expenses growing faster than sales, examine costs carefully to find places to cut or control them. The lag between the time you have to pay your suppliers and employees and the time you collect from your customers can be a problem. The solution is cash flow management (CFM). CFM means delaying disbursements of cash as long as possible while requiring anyone who owes you money to pay it quickly. Rules (FASB) that govern the creation of financial statements are not about tracking the actual flow of cash through your business. They are focused on measuring profit or loss. Income does not tell you what happened to your cash balance during the period. It merely defines net income based on the accounting rules used to create the income statement. Only one component of understanding and managing your cash flow. Managing Cash Flow Use What ifs to Estimate Cash Flow You may not have tried this yet, but creating what if scenarios based on swings in revenues, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Eve Harrington Compare And Contrast I can say with certainty that the film adaptation did a much better job at presenting the tale of Eve Harrington than the original short story did, primarily because the movie allowed me to feel for the characters. In the short story, I didn t get to see what happened, but rather Margola telling what happened. Unlike the film, there are no flashbacks to the story itself, so I wasn t really able to actually visualize it. Most of the short storyis just Margola talking to Karen inside the car, so in a sense, it s neither telling nor showing. It s showing telling, and that isn t very entertaining to see or imagine. Additionally, because the events surrounding Eve had already happened, I was also unable to witness how they affected Margola. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Importance Of The Federal Budget Government budgets no matter on the federal or local level are important because they give insight into what the government s priorities are for that fiscal year. The current budget in Georgia for the 2017 fiscal year is 43.7 billion dollars. This number is broken down in three areas. The state s budget is 23.7 billion. The federal budget for the year is 13.7 billion and the other funds they 6.3 billion. The Great Recession caused a dramatic decrease in state revenues from the 2008 to 2010 fiscal years, falling by $3.6 billion, or 19.2 percent. Revenues improved at a moderate pace since the 2011 fiscal year and have picked up since 2014, yet inflationadjusted, per capita state revenue in 2017 is still expected to fall short of pre recession... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Program budgeting is a system of managing government expenditures by attempting to compare the program proposals of all government agencies authorized to achieve similar objectives (Hyman, 2014). Program budgeting allows decisions to be made regarding which programs will be offered, to meet the missions, the lowest cost. Incremental budgeting is less drastic, the current fiscal year serves as the basis for small incremental changes in the next fiscal year. Incremental budgeting is a pragmatic approach that seeks to minimize the resources that go into the budgetary process each year and make it easier for governments to enact budgets (Hymn 2014). Cost benefit analysis estimates and totals up the equivalent money value of the benefits and costs to the community of projects to establish whether they are worthwhile. These projects may be dams and highways or can be training programs and health care systems. Externalities that cause market inefficiencies are either positive or negative. Negative market inefficiencies will cause the people demand government policies and or procedures to stop these effect such as pollution. Another impact of market inefficiencies could be lower wages, which could result in more unemployment. Whether the impact in positive or negative the government plays a role in it. Use critical evaluation of theoretical evidence to support discussion points. 2, Analyse the similarities and differences between psychotherapy and counselling practices using evidence, aims and objectives relevant to practice and therapeutic need. Counselling and psychotherapy are very different areas of speciality than psychiatry or psychology. Yet it is from these two health practices that counselling and psychotherapy practice emerged. The emergence and beginning of this takes us back initially to 1887, when the specialism of psychotherapy emerged in psychiatry. The understanding and belief of talking therapy underpins psychoanalysis and all other theories that developed from it. Freud believed human behavior was not consciously controlled, and credited three parts in the mind to any psychological activity. These are called the unconscious, the preconscious and the conscious. Personality too was given three parts, the id, the super ego and the ego. Freud believed these parts in our mind have their individual parts to play in the way we go about life. He also stated the only way to work through conflicts that arise from our subconscious and unconscious mind is through dream analysis and psychoanalysis. Other key concepts in psychodynamic theory are the psychosexual stages of development, anxiety, defence mechanisms, and free association. Carl Jung (1875 1961) was a one time friend and colleague of Sigmund Freud, who initially held similar views to Freud. He started to feel dissatisfied with Freud s ideas though and broke away from that school of thought in 1913. Jung also had a great interest in mystical and magical subjects, Buddhism and Hinduism, which influenced Jung s own ideas on a theory of personality. He too, suggested there were 3 parts; the conscious mind (or ego), the personal unconscious, and the collective unconscious. The main point of difference between the two men (Jung and Freud) was Freud s definition of sexuality and libido. Although Jung conceded the importance of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Fuel Cell Essay One of the important issues to ensure the safety of a ship in the case of a gas leak is the condition of air flow inside the fuel cell stack package. Poor air flow increases the risk of fire or explosion by accumulating leaked gas in one place. Against this backdrop, the installation place for a ventilating fan and its capacity should be properly decided to make the air flow smooth inside the package, and an alarm unit and gas detector should be installed at the proper place to detect gas leak. In this study, we report the characteristics of air flow inside the stack package to ensure the safety in the case of a gas leak for the 300 kW MCFC stack package model ships by applying CFD techniques. aimed at the places where leaked gas... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These days, many shipping firms are adopting liquefied natural gas (LNG) as marine fuel in an attempt to replace conventionally used HFO as a marine fuel. Such a trend to use LNG in the ship considers to safely utilize Boil off Gas (BOG), and as one of the options, application of fuel cell to the ship are being considered [5,6]. Fuel cells (FCs), energy storage systems (ESSs), wind power, and sunlight have received significant attentions as environment friendly energy sources for green vessels in the future [7]. Among these, FCs have strong potential as an alternatives to traditional marine propulsion power plants owing to their high efficiency, easy modularization, multi fuel flexibility, and environmental friendliness [8,9]. In addition, FCs can essentially offer a silent and vibration free operation, reducing the needs for noise insulation of machinery. In particular, high temperaturemolten carbonate fuel cells (MCFCs) have various advantages for eco ships, because they achieve the system efficiency of more than 80% with negligible air pollutant emissions, when used as the waste heat. Furthermore, it may be highly efficient economically for gas transport ships to utilize fuel such as LNG and liquefied H2 carriers, since MCFCs can use the BOG emitted from the LNG ship [10,11]. However, developments of MCFC green ships are still in a primitive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gustave Courbet s Reclining Nude Essay Gustave Courbet s Reclining Nude In the Philadelphia Museum of Art are five paintings by Gustave Courbet; of all of these I found Reclining Nude (1868, Oil on canvas, The Louis Stern Collection, 63 81 20) the most interesting. It depicts a nude woman lying on the beach beneath a billowing canopy. A dark, but tranquil sea is in the background. The sky is dark as if the final rays of the sun were disappearing over the horizon. There are a few clouds in the sky, they are dark but not threatening. The picture is very dark in general and there is no obvious light source. The edges of the painting are so dark it is impossible to tell what the nude reclines against. It is not covered enough, however, for one to believe she has any shame for appearing in so public a place in such a position; this, too, would have been found scandalous in the 1860 s. Now, however, compared to such displays of sexuality and nudity as found in magazines such as Penthouse and Playgirl or X rated movies, the picture is perceived as a modest, proper display of sexuality. Today there is nothing offensive about the woman s display of sexuality. One other reason that the critics and public would have found this picture offensive is that to them this is not a display of nudity, but a display of nakedness. The woman is perceived as naked rather than nude, because she is not in a classical setting or an important person portrayed in a classical setting. This is not a picture of a nude Venus rising from the sea foam or a nude Psyche with her adoring Cupid. This woman is not even a rich patroness being portrayed in one of the classical settings. This woman could be any fair haired woman;whe is a common woman, most likely the artist s mistress or even a prostitute. Her nudity is for sensual display, not for classical purposes, therefore it was perceived as nakedness and therefore obscene. We are just going to look at some of the simple ones. Melting and boiling points of these oxides will be much lower than those of the metal oxides or silicon dioxide. The intermolecular forces holding one molecule to its neighbors will be van der Waals dispersion forces or dipole dipole interactions. • 10. Religion In The Second Great Awakening Prior to the 1800 s, English began to colonize North America to gain religious freedom and tolerance. As a result there were many groups and branches of many religions that fled to the 13 colonies as there were also those who settled in North America to escape religion, rather than find religious freedom. Separation between church and state showed how the founding fathers tried to not allow religionto shape or affect politics. However the Second Great Awakening and the Presidential election of 1800 demonstrated clearly how politics is influenced by religion. Therefore, between 1800 and 1848, just a span of 48 years, religion shaped the politics of the United States. Church and State were set apart by the founding fathers for the sole reason that North America was colonized, by the English, to escape religious persecution. Consequently, America was a melting pot of people practicing their different faiths and beliefs. In the 1800 s, after the ratification of the Bill of Rights, the first amendment supported the idea of this separation by stating Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion. An issue that falls under this category includes the heated debate involving whether or not student athletes should receive money. Many people say student athletes should receive compensation according to their specific needs because they spend so much time earning their scholarship and have no time to work. On the other hand, the stronger argument is student athletes should not be able to acquire additional funds in order to help aid them through college. The idea is that these students are producing truckloads of revenue for the university and should see some of the fruits of their labor. (Jennings, par. 2) Because athletes aren t paid for producing such money, supporters feel some of the money made should go towards helping with extra expenses. An average student athlete has to pay for phone bills, transportation, entertainment, laundry, toiletries and other things. While the typical college student has the opportunity to work, athletes don t. Some students in college receive academic full ride scholarships, which are the same as athletic full rides, but they have time to earn extra money on the side. If these students are receiving a full ride scholarship and have the opportunity to work then an athlete should be paid a compensation for his or her efforts on the playing field. On the contrary, there is a reason the NCAA has not passed a law saying athletes should be paid and numerous reasons support this view. • 14. Existentialism And The Beliefs Of The Movement Losing all hope was freedom. One of the most powerful quotes in Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk that is a good summary of existentialism and the beliefs of the movement. Existentialism was a turning point for society and literature that advocated the expansion of the minds of authors and their readers so we could improve our thinking to be more enlightened and free. The movement sparked much alternative thinking to allow our society to grow into what it is today and without it people would most likely be more close minded and less free. Existentialismwas a very influential movement with many impactful authors and will forever be remembered in history because of it s unique ideas about the existence of the individual person as a free and responsible agent determining their own development through acts of the will and how it shifted a culture. Existentialism is a philosophical idea within ethics that was developed in the 19th century and progressed heavily into the 20th century. Some basic foundational ideas of existentialism are found in early Buddhist and Christian writings, which may have been the starting point for the movement. Also, like existentialism s previous philosophical ideas that came before it, it rebels against traditional Western thought that believes rationality and consciousness are the key points to understanding the human condition. According to Physicians for Social Responsibilities , environmental factors are estimated to be responsible for approximately 80% of cancer diagnosis and deaths in the U.S. alone. Children, animals, and life everywhere are suffering due to consequences of environmental hazards. The detrimental consequences of unprotected environments are much greater than many perceive; therefore, by limiting harmful methods of environmental destruction and raising awareness these consequences may be decreased. The amount of contamination in the Earth s water and atmosphere has increased tremendously over the years. Factors such as fossil fuel combustion, water pollution, deforestation, toxic chemicals, and a multitude of others all contribute greatly to the environmental harm that is being faced today. Investigation has brought out evidence that pernicious industrial chemicals seem to be more widespread throughout the environmentthan anticipated. The abundance of pollutants exposed to the air and water we rely on may cause a variety of health defects and problematic issues to human, animal, and plant life everywhere. Death comes with a lack of nutrients from insufficient food. Death comes with a misstep that leads to a plunge into rough, frigid ocean waters. These statements are especially true on board a ship at sea during the time prior to the 20th century. When people know that death is very likely in a certain situation but still agree to participate in the situation anyway, they posses a characteristic known as courage. Two examples of courageous men are Zheng Heand Charles Wyville Thomson, commanders of very different ocean voyages, and both of these men led their respective crew members towards death with the hopes of conquering or exploring new lands. Zheng He, a worker for the emperor of the Ming Dynasty of China, commanded a giant fleet including 27,000 Chinese soldiers and sailed as far as the Arabian peninsula and the eastern coast of Africa in seven different voyages, starting in 1405 (Dreyer 1). The founding fathers of our Constitution held firmly to the principle of justice in which Every man is presumed innocent until he is proven guilty. As depicted in Arthur Miller s The Crucible, during the Salem witch trials, to be accused of witchcraft was to be guilty. Because Sir William Berkeley, the Governorof Virginia had willingly denied support to the farmers, Bacon assumed leadership of an unauthorized expedition against the Indians. Because the governor did not give them the support, they had to take matters into their own hands. After defeating the Indians, the unofficially elected Nathaniel Bacon took charge. When he led his men into town to form an assembly, it would be the first assembly in fifteen years. After the long struggle and hard fought battle these freemen received their gift. Plastic Optical Fiber (POF) technology is making fiber even more affordable and easier to install. Because the core is plastic instead of glass, terminating the cable is easier. The trade off for this lower cost and ease of installation is shorter distance capabilities and bandwidth limitations. 2.0 Fiber Construction Fiber optic cabling has the following components (starting in the center and working out): core, cladding, coating, strength member, and jacket. The design and function of each of these will be defined. The core is in the very center of the cable and is the medium of propagation for the signal. The core is made of silica glass or plastic (in the case of POF) with a high refractive index. The actual core is very small (compared to the wire gauges we are used to). Typical core sizes range from 8 microns (millionth of a meter) for single mode silica glass cores up to 1000 microns for multi mode POF. The cladding is a material of lower index of refraction which surrounds the core. This difference in index forms a mirror at the boundary of the core and cladding. Because of the lower index, it reflects the light back into the center of the core, forming an optical wave guide. This is the same effect as looking out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Popular fads among the teenagers during this era are explored in detail. The prevailing theme throughout the text pertains to the idea of belonging. The poem focuses primarily on the desire teenagers have to fit in. Throughout this response I will explore the ways in which this poem differs and relates to the high schoolenvironment today. Secondly I will analyze the connections between this poem and a modern day movie. Lastly, I will express the ways in which my personal experiences relate to the central message in the poem. Several elements of the high school environment during the late 1950 s still exist today. The author mentions that, those guys spoke in crazy cryptic monosyllables . This statement is still relevant today; however teenage boys now speak in a form of speech referred to as gangster slang . Typical words include sup or peace which are used to express phrases such as how are you? or see you later. In the poem McEwen says that, those girls said nothing and were mean and cracked gum . Mean girls still continue to grace the school hallways glaring at those more vulnerable. These girls tend to be the masterminds behind vicious rumours that spread like wildfire throughout the school. McEwen mentions that the boys learned shop and the girls sewed shaky seams in the dresses they would never wear. This statement ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An organization consists of individuals with different specializations, educational qualifications and work experiences all working towards a common goal. Just like how every employee have different specializations, educational qualifications and work experiences, the employees also differ in generations called Gen X(people born in 1965 1981), Gen Y (people born in 1982 2000) and Baby boomers(people born in 1946 1964). All these employees need work motivationin some way or the other to perform at work place and produce desired results. In the due course of time there are many changes in the organizations that are taking place. Organizational changes happen due to leadership, technical changes and also due to multiple generations working under a single roof. By these generations working under a single roof there are many contradictions and differences right from the value systems to how each generations see the work. So motivating each generation to achieve their goal is a huge task even for the leading managers. Work motivation is described as the psychological processes that direct, energize, and maintain action toward a job, task, role, or project (Campbell Pritchard, 1976; Kanfer, 1990). • 42. The Memory Palace Of Matteo Ricci Analysis Matteo Ricci was a born in Italy in 1552. He became a Jesuit and went a mission to China in 1583. He lived out the rest of his twenty seven years in China, bringing in Western culture and technology, while learning about what China had to offer. In his novel, The Memory Palace of Matteo Ricci, Jonathan Spence retells Ricci s life story, while also adding information about the world at the time. Spence tells Ricci s story in an interesting way, by assigning Chinese characters and images that he believes Ricci would have used in his memory palace, a fictional tool to remember what that took place during his life. The memory palace works by assigning memories to a character or image, so when you think of the image, you can remember the memories associated with it. Spence then breaks up the chapters separately by each image or character and talks about the history and story from Ricci s life associated with the image or character. This essay will primarily focus on chapter four of the novel, though a summary of the themes of chapter six is included as well. In chapter four Spence largely discusses the three main religions of the Western world, Christianity, Islam, and Judaism, and then draws parallels with the three largest religions in Chinaat the time, Confucianism, Buddhism, and Daoism. Critical Analysis Of Eric Schlosser s Your Trusted Friends Oftentimes, writers of argumentative essays will explicitly state their claim, establishing a position on a topic in a clear and concise manner. In doing so, writers arguments are essentially more effective in representing the chosen subject matter. In Your Trusted Friends , investigative journalist Eric Schlosser writes that Walt Disneyand Ray Kroc perfected the art of selling to children, however, this writing is laced with numerous, hidden, implications. Schlosser s work subconsciously suggests that companies like Disney and McDonald s prey on children in order to gain profit. This, therefore, makes his argument weak overall, since instead of blatantly expressing his opinion, he leaves his audienceto guess about the overall purpose of the piece. Throughout the writing, Schlosser provides historical and statistical information about both the businessmen, Disney and Kroc, and their individual companies. In the third paragraph, he writes about the shared experiences between the men, from growing up in the same hometown to serving in in the same World War I ambulance corps (Schlosser 184). He then lists examples of how the men s failures in their humble beginnings eventually led to success. • 47. The Importance Of Slavery In Mansfield Park Mansfield Park is an interesting tale that involves the clashing ideals of the upper and lower classes. One could say that it is based in racial tension and imperialism, and many would agree. George E. Boulukos, author of The Politics of Silence: Mansfield Park and the Amelioration of Slavery, believes that a one of the primary conflicts of Mansfield Parksurrounds the legality and morality of the slave trade in England. Boulukos presents that the amelioration of slaves, or in layman s terms, the improving of conditions for slaves, was a key focus of conflict between Fanny and her Uncle. The context of amelioration makes sense of the one scene in which the slave trade is discussed in Mansfield Park. Because Fanny s discussion with her uncle is followed by a dead silence, her reference to the slave trade has been taken as a reminder of the Bertrams shameful dependence on a business they would prefer to pass over in silence. (Boulukos362) Mansfield Park was written by Jane Austen, and this scandalous novel is still making a splash in today s world. In 1999, Austen fans were treated with a film by Patricia Rozema that bears the same name and premise as Mansfield Park.
