Essay On School Violence
Writing an essay on the subject of school violence is undoubtedly a challenging task that requires
careful consideration and in-depth analysis. The complexity arises from the sensitivity of the
topic itself, as it involves addressing a deeply concerning and distressing issue that affects the
lives of students, teachers, and parents alike.
Firstly, delving into the extensive research on the various aspects of school violence can be
emotionally taxing. The need to confront statistics, case studies, and real-life incidents can evoke
strong emotions and make the writing process mentally demanding. Additionally, it requires a
delicate balance to maintain objectivity while discussing such a highly charged and emotionally
charged subject.
Moreover, crafting an essay on school violence necessitates a comprehensive understanding of
the root causes, contributing factors, and potential solutions. This requires not only a thorough
examination of academic literature but also an ability to critically assess societal norms,
educational systems, and the impact of external influences on the prevalence of violence in
schools.
Articulating thoughts and arguments coherently is another challenge. Expressing the gravity of
the issue while ensuring clarity and maintaining the reader's engagement is crucial. Striking the
right balance between facts, empathy, and a call to action poses a unique difficulty in conveying
the urgency of addressing the problem without sensationalizing it.
In conclusion, writing an essay on school violence demands a nuanced approach, combining
research, empathy, and critical thinking. It requires navigating through the emotional complexity
of the topic while maintaining a clear and compelling narrative. The challenge lies not only in
presenting the facts but also in inspiring a sense of responsibility and encouraging meaningful
dialogue on how to address this pervasive issue.
If you find yourself struggling with this task or any other writing assignments, it's worth
exploring additional resources. Platforms like HelpWriting.net offer assistance in crafting
essays on a variety of topics, providing support for those who may need guidance in expressing

Eagle Scout Project Observation Report
The act of service that meant the most to me was my Eagle Scout Project. I began
planning it in November of 2014 and finished April 2015. It was one of the largest
things I planned from concept to final product. Before my Eagle Scout Project, In
my town, the park is one of the most used venues in our community and most of it is
beautiful but in front of the bathrooms was an area that was overgrown and had corn
growing in it. I had to go through many steps of bureaucracy just to get approval, plan
everything in detail, and execute the project effectively.
Initially, I had to gain approval from my troop and city for an initial plan. I planned
to build some raised beds filled with native North Carolinian flowers. Firstly, I had to
obtain approval from the benefactor, my scoutmaster, a unit committee member, and
a council advancement committee member. The benefactor member who worked
with me was the City Manager, Homer Deerman. Mr. Deerman was an Eagle Scout
member himself and greatly helped plan what my project should be and how to
navigate through the local government. Once I had his approval I ... Show more

The very same park I wanted to help fell under controversy. The Christian Flagwas
flying at the veterans memorial and someone threatened to sue, so the city council
decided to take the flag down. This was one week before the city council meeting. A
meeting that should have been one hour lasted three and a half hours. After 2 hours
of people yelling at the council men for being Godless Fascists and other slurs, I
was finally up at the podium, sick as a dog. I explained what my project was, why I
wanted to do this, and a timescale for completion. They were so relieved that, for a
short period of time, no one was yelling at them and happily approved my project. I
later found out that, in addition to me, every councilman had a cold also. I finally
was able to execute my
How Did Religion Affect Ancient Egyptian Society
Religion was the main structure of how the Ancient Egyptians form their way of life.
Tradition was strongly influenced by their religious beliefs which caused them to
resist change. Ancient Egyptian religion was a complex system of polytheistic beliefs
and rituals which were an integral part of ancient Egyptian society. In ancient Egypt
they believed in not one but many gods. Gods were worshipped and certain gods
represented certain parts of ancient Egypt. Their religionhosted about several
different gods and goddesses. Religion affected their society and determined social
class. Their beliefs left Pharaohs and priests in Ancient Egypt at the highest of social
statuses. The Egyptians felt that when all was going well it was because of the... Show

One of the major factors of their religious belief was fertility and procreation.
Besides the kind, in marriage Egyptians were expected to be monogamous in their
relationships. Marriage in ancient Egypt was an arrangement of property. Once
married, the women would become pregnant because the tradition, due to religion,
was to have a large family. According to Douglas J. Brewer, Like so many other
aspects of Egyptian culture, senet had a religious significance, and the game was
likened to passing through the underworld (Brewer). It was said to be believed that
the successful player was under the protection of the major gods of the national
pantheon. The Senet boards were usually placed along graves for the journey
through afterlife. In ancient Egypt, the young men were not usually allowed to
pick their own choice of career(s). The system was of inheritance, meaning the son
would become what his father is/was. However, for a young men to become a
priest, they would be chosen by a king and they would become his apprentice into
becoming a priest. The ancient Egypt social pyramid was painted as Pharaoh s the
highest of ranks followed by nobles, priests, officials and then by scribes, merchants
and at the bottom of the social pyramid would be the farmers and servants. Pharaohs
were marked as the highest of social status due to their resemblances of the

5 crazy technologies that could be available by 2025 ( removed HTML )
Over the past couple of decades technology has grown in leaps and bounds. We ve
gone from clunky computers and dial up internet to a computer the size of a phone
and 3G internet. We ve made incredible medical advances, and we re finally also
starting to use our technology to better help our planet, but there s still so much to
create, discover, and learn about. Here are some crazy technologies that could be
available by 2025.
1. Widespread use of solar panels
Alternative energy is a huge area of contention for a lot of people. The world
currently relies so heavily on fossil fuels that switching to other forms of energy
means that many people will lose jobs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That will change in the coming years as more people buy electric cars and pressure
is put on cities to create more spots for charging. On top of electric cars, however,
we will also have 3D printed ones. Audi has already created their own 3D printed
mini car, but Local Motors is taking orders for their full sized 3D printed car. There
are two different versions of the car that you can get. One is called the Reload
Swim (which is the more regular looking car) and the other is the Reload Sport
(which is the sports car version). These cars will also be electric. Imagine a future
where your car doesn t harm the environment or create air pollution. It could be a
whole new world.

3. Everything connected to the internet
If you think that everything is connected to the internet already, just wait until 2025.
By 2025, estimates are that there will be over a trillion different sensors connected
to the internet. This will take the form of clothes and other wearable tech for
instance. Approximately about 10% of people by 2022 will be wearing clothing that
connects to the internet. Other things like your home will go online. You can already
view your security cameras and change your thermostat using different apps, but with
voice technology like Alexa from Amazon you ll do all that and so much more

I am currently a sophomore undergraduate archaeology major at the University of
Evansville, who plans to use my degree to pursue museum studies. When I was
young, I discovered that I wanted to be an archaeologist, prompting me to visit many
fascinating museums, such as the Smithsonian, the Metropolitan Museumof Art, and
the Louvre. In preparation for this dig, I currently hold a part time job as a team
member, at a local fast food pizza establishment. However, this scholarship can also
help aid me in participating at my first dig during the 2018 field season at Jezreel,
co directed by one of my professors at UE. My love of ancient cultures has inspired
me to pursue traveling and submerge myself into new cultures. The Jezreel

Billy Elliot Transition
Barriers are guaranteed when individuals venture into new transitions. However, these
transitional periods significantly impact one s understanding, often leading to
unexpected outcomes that can include otherwise hidden rewards. In Stephen Daldry s
2000 film Billy Elliot and Sylvia Plath s semi autobiographical poem Morning Song,
both texts explore the transformative power of obstacles, driven through
determination, which encourage viewers that obstacles are only temporary. Through
encouragement during transitional periods, individuals may achieve inner growth
while simultaneously motivating the growth of others. This is seen through the
protagonist, Billy s, restriction and frustration within a close minded community as
he aggressively dances... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Billy s determination is shown through the juxtaposing movements and camera
angles of the opening and last scene of the film. In the opening scene of the film
we are shown Billy jumping and dancing along with the non diegetic sound of
Cosmic Dancer by T.Rex. The lyrics I danced myself right out of the womb,
foreshadows Billy s destiny and desire to dance which is conflicted towards the
expectations of his father. Through the use of a close ups and slow motion it
allows the audience see Billy s lively facial expressions, highlighting his innocence.
This is juxtaposed to his sharp and precise movements shown in the final scene
through close ups and worm eye view, signifying Billy s dominance and power,
which he initially lacked. Daldry s use of a extreme close up shot displays Jackie
overwhelmed and teary, represents how proud he is towards Billy s perseverance
and shows that he is embracing a more feminine side which he initially rejected. As
Billy enters the stage and leaps into the air he is situated under the spotlight and
dominates the screen, symbolising his successful transition into the world of ballet
and _______. The leap is transitioned to the a dull yellow wallpaper, which is
shown in the opening scene of the film. The floral wallpaper is symbolic of Billy s
search for happiness, which he eventually discovers comes from dancing.

Locke s Theory Rejecting Free Will Essay
In this essay I will argue against Locke s theory rejecting free will. I will claim that in
Locke s Of Power, he ultimately provides evidence for a limit on liberty in respect to
will, rather than the denial of liberty in respect to will altogether. I will provide
evidence for my stance, by assessing Locke s definitions for liberty, necessity, and
will. I will also rationalize my thesis by assessing the legitimacy of their relationship
in respect to Locke s theory, and attempt to uncover answers to ambiguous questions
in Locke s doctrines.
Locke states that it is folly to suggest that the will can have liberty, is faulty due to
them both being powers. He states that powers can only be attributed to agents
(people), and that it us improper to suggest that the power of will can have the
power of freedom. Moreover, to Locke, the correct statement would be that a person
is free to will. He states that an agent is limited in the liberty, to either do or forebear
doing something, and accordingly, the power of the will, or the act of it (volition) has
the same dual limitations; either willing to do something, or forbearing willing to do
something. In answer the question of what determines the will, Locke states one s
actions are a result of pleasure (good) and pain (evil). Either one s will attempts to
seek pleasure, or eliminate pain (find a comparatively less painful power than the
currently proposed pain). Accordingly he considers desire to be a form of pain, or
unease.
U.S. Municipal Solid Waste
In 2011, the Environmental Protection Agency estimated that Americans generated
250 million tons of municipal solid waste, MSW1, of which only 87 million tons
were recycled or composted ( Municipal Solid Waste , 1). This value, however, does
not represent the total amount waste generated by the United States since MSW only
accounts for 2 percent of total wastegenerated. As more trash is generated, space to
construct more landfills becomes an issue. In order to reduce the amount of solid
waste produced, the federal government must implement and enforce a new waste
disposal method that emphasizes compostingfood waste.
To begin with, in the U.S., trash is most commonly sent to a landfill, unfortunately

Across the country cities have taken the initiative to reduce their carbon footprint and
enact stricter regulations for sorting trash and collecting it. As stated by Phuong Le
of the Seattle Times, Striving to reduce the trash it sends to landfills, Seattle has
banned foam take out containers and plastic bags, told residents they must recycle
cardboard and compost food scraps... ( Seattle Idea ). In order to eliminate excess
waste from entering landfills, Seattle has prohibited the distribution of non
decomposable items and encouraged composting and recycling. By introducing strict
regulations on non decomposable materials entering the city and having its
citizens sort their own trash, the amount of waste that a city sends to landfills will
be reduced. Wheeler, journalist for the Baltimore Sun, states, Recycling that food
waste instead of burning it or burying can save money...and converting it to
compost can help grow new food by enhancing depleted soils ( Maryland Firm ).
Wasted food can be converted into compost instead of being discarded in landfills
can be used in the growth of new foods while enhancing the soil around it. Since
compost is rich in nutrients, the city not only saves money by recycling food waste
but it can also profit since the compost can be sold to local farmers and gardeners.
Composting is an emerging market that is gaining momentum as more

The Basic Idea Of Science
THE BASIC IDEA
In the field of physical science it has been proved that absolutely everything can be
scientifically reduced to one ultimate invisible Essence, something which cannot be
contacted by the physical senses. It is therefore only reasonable to say that originally
everything must have, and still does, come from It. According to one s way of
thinking, different names are given to It: Energy, Principle, Universal Intelligence,
Universal Mind, Consciousness, Spirit, God.

That too is an inescapable realization drawn from the premise of an infinite being.
The Infinite cannot be one with just one of us. It must be one with every one of us.
Each and everyone is one with the infinite One, God. If you doubt that Jesus came to
this conclusion, then consider one question: Why did he say that when we pray we
should pray to Our Father, rather than his Father? We are all one with the infinite
One. I think that we must accept this premise because it is reasonable; but my
insistence that others think and reason as I do would be unreasonable. Anyone can
ignore the infinite One; they just can t be separate or apart from It. We can ignore our
heritage, our inheritance and our inherent nature. Nevertheless it is with us, even
thou we deny it. You can ignore reality, but it doesn t go away.
One Reality The Apostle Paul wrote: In him we live, and move, and have our being
[Acts 17:28] Jesus said: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the
kingdom of God is within you. [Lk. 17:21] God would have to be very small to be
within all, and very large to include all. However, to resolve these two extremes, God
need only be infinite. Remember what Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote in his essay,
History:
There is no great and no small
To the Soul that maketh all:
And where it cometh, all things are;
And it cometh everywhere. When we envision a God that is omniscient, omnipotent
and omnipresent we are thinking of the infinite,
Argumentative Essay About Hunger Games
The Reaping The citizens of each of twelve districts in Panem are forced to
participate in the traumatizing, Hunger Games. Attempting to overthrow The
Capitol, now each District must; sacrifice a boy and a girl who will later compete
against twenty two other people from the age ranges of twelve to eighteen. The
Capitol established these games as a reminder they are in power. According to a
citizen, Katniss Everdeen says Attendance is mandatory unless you are at death s
door. This evening, officials will come around and check to see if this is the case.
If not, you ll be imprisoned. In punishment for the uprising, each of the twelve
districts must provide one girl and one boy, called tributes, to participate. The
twenty four tributes will be imprisoned in a vast outdoor arena that could hold
anything from a burning desert to a frozen wasteland. Over a period of several
weeks, the competitors must fight to the death. Katniss also stated this about The
Capitol this is the Capitol s way of reminding us how totally we are at their mercy.
How little chance we would stand for surviving another rebellion. Whatever words
they use, the real message is clear. Look how we take your children and sacrifice
them and there s nothing you can do. If you lift a finger, we will destroy every last
one of you. The Ceremony of Twelve In another community a very important
ceremony is happening, The Ceremony of Twelves. At the ceremony, all of the

How Did The Market Revolution Affect The Middle Class
Every facet in the way of life was affected by the Market Revolution, stopped the

The upper class did not change in any matter although the middle class increased

Accelerated movements were mainly enhanced in commercialization,
industrialization and transportation which generated the market revolution.
Compromise was made by merchants in the business community of the northern area

of the new middle class. Many families altered their life styles under the heavily
weight that was under taken because of the market revolution. Production which
made its way out from households, family and work matters grew distant from one

the management of their homes and to which provided a safe environment for their

correct roles and aspects in which males and females should intake and follow

Jane Eyre and The Great Gatsby
Jane Eyre and The Great Gatsby are two very intresting novels which are very eye
opening to one about how society is and the main message I got especially from
Jane Eyre is that money is not always the answer to personal happiness and love.
Both novels believed in moral convinction where you believe in one viewbook and it
does not change for the better or worse.
Jane Eyre is a very intresting novel as soon as you open it the first few chapters are
shocking as it shows you two big themes one of which is class and the other is
gender. In 1947 people would judge you depending on your class and people in
society would judge you and treat you by where you are in the hierarchy tree.
Another big theme was gender women were treated as third class citizens no
freedom at all. Jane Eyre was a novel about an orphan who is adopted into this
wealthy family. However she feels completely out the circle and not part of there
family. The family certainly did not make her feel part of them either they first
saw her as poor because she came from a poor background even though now she is
adopted in there family they still saw her like that and secondly she was a girl so
that made things worse and those two combinations were not good. At one point in
the novel Mr reed said to her You have no business to take our books; you are a
dependant, mamma says; you have no money; your father left you none; you ought
to beg, and not to live here with gentleman s children like us . . he is telling her
Compare And Contrast Jamestown And Plymouth
Plantation
Jamestown vs. Plymouth Plantation
The beginning of colonization was hard for the settlers in the New World. Disease,
starvation, and aggressive Native Americans were some factors that lead to the end of
several colonies in the Americas. The first successful colonies were Jamestown and
Plymouth Plantation. Jamestown and the Plymouth Plantation had several differences
like the type of government, relationships maintained with the Native American and
the way they became efficient.
In 1607, England sent colonists to the coast of Virginia so they could create a new
settlement named Jamestown. Captain John Smith led the settlement. Over the first
decade of its existence, the colony struggled simply to survive. All they wanted to do
was make money and get rich. The discovery of tobacco was a great for Jamestown
and they sold anywhere they could for great profits and it lasted through the 1620s.
An understanding happened between Powhatan and John Smith led the settlers to
establish much needed trade with Powhatan s tribe by early 1608. Even though
several fights still broke out between the two groups, they still traded with each other.
His good leadership, military experience, and determination gave discipline to the
colonists and when he left Jamestown, mortality lowered.
The pilgrims went to Plymouth in September 1620 in hopes of making a better life
for themselves and their children while being able to worship freely and in peace.
Among the group were farmers, woodworkers, shopkeepers, blacksmiths, weavers,
and servants. There were also people who went for religious reasons. They were
going to settle in Cape Cod but the water was too shallow for the ship to go in and
out with supplies and there were also too many Indian tribes. The people had the
courage, gratitude to God, and love for one another. The story of the Mayflower, the
trip across the Atlantic, to the Plymouth Colony with its tragic first winter, the treaty
with the Indian tribes and celebrated First Thanksgiving goes down the ages and
around the world.
Jamestown used military rule for the first decade as a colony. They soon moved to
an assembly that was elected by the people. Before the settlers of Plymouth Plantation
set foot on the New World in the

Relationships, Group Cohesion, Team Norms, And Strength
Introduction:
Throughout organizational behaviors we learned a lot about developing
relationships, group cohesion, and team norms / values. On October 6 and
November 17, we worked together in our teams to complete different activates with
different instructions. For our first challenge we had to build a tower using objects
that we put into a trash bag. We were judged on Beauty, Height, and strength. We had
a certain time frame to build our tours. On November 17 we were paired up with a
different team and instructed to build a bridge. Each team had to start from their own
sides and meet in the middle. The challenge was that only two team members from
each side could talk to each other and communicate about our ideas for constructing
the bridge. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My name was picked out of a cup so I was the only person who could talk to the
other leader in group 3 who was Anh. Anh and I have worked with each other in the
past so we already had a past relationship. What was really unique was that the
leader of the team was randomly picked randomly so I believe this made the task a
little more challenging for each group.
I really liked this exercise because we had put our trust into the other group that we
would build the best bridge and try and win. The first category of trust (Appendix
C) is how much confidence you have you have in other s competence and abilities
(Cohen et al, pg. 223) I had a past relationship with Anh so it was easy for me to
trust her because I know she is a very hard worker and she always got her work don
based on the past relationship. I also worked with some of the members in her
group so I felt confident that my team and I could trust them to get things done.
The others team judgement was very sounds (Cohen et al, pg. 233) . They won the
previous contest so it was easy for us to trust that there judgement was good. My
team trusted Anh and her team because we all had a common goal of winning the
bridge challenge. We were working together and collaborating well together. Anh
and her team were in no way trying to harm our welfare (Cohen et al, pg. 233). Both
teams collaborated and feel through with what we said we were going to do. We
Literary Devices In The Odyssey
The first literary device used to show growth of a character is setting. The setting
can place a hero anywhere and give detail to his past. Such as in the Odysses, I will
take no horses back with me to Ithaca, but will leave them to adorn your own
stables, for you have much flatground in your kingdom where lotus thrives, as also
meadowsweet and wheat and barley, and oats with their white and spreading ears;
whereas in Ithaca we have neither open fields nor racecourses, and the country is
more fit for goats than horses, and I like it the better for that.None of our islands
have much level ground, suitable for horses, and Ithaca least of all (Homer). Ulysses

Leading to the hero, Beowulf, to be seen as the light or the savior of the town.
Grendel, the monster Beowulf has come to defeat, has created a town of despair
and anguish. Beowulf s job is to defeat the monster and bring hope and joy back to
the town. The setting characterizes the hero as a god like man, seen as in Beowulf,
...They lived in secret places, windy Cliffs, wolf dens where water pours from the
rocks, then runs underground, where mist steams like black clouds, and the groves
of trees growing out over their lake are all covered with frozen spray, and wind
down snakelike roots that reach as far as the water and help keep it dark(Beers 25).
Giving the story of Beowulf a dark outlook had lead Beowulf, to give off a larger
than life personality, almost god like. The monsters both Grendel, his mother, and
the dragon all live in daunting places. This has caused them to look more
monstrous and evil. Some settings make the hero look foolish, such as in the Iliad,
Trojans take refuge behind the walls of their city, but Hector remains outside the
gates. As Achilles races toward Troy, Hector s parents urge their son to come back
inside the city walls(Beers 58). The setting of the Iliad places Hector outside of the
safety of the city; ready to battle against

Canada is currently sitting at a population of over 30 million people and is ranked

economy in the country seems to be thriving very well with many skilled workers
and plenty of jobs for most individuals in the civilian labor force. For the most part,
Canadahas always done pretty well in terms of having a successful economy. Starting
in the early 50s Canada was thriving primarily off of the waterways unlike today the

The Canadian economy today is at an all time high with higher economic growth
and rising GDP Canada is seeing great changes in the economy. The GDP increase
by 1.1 percent in just the first 3 months of 2017. Canada is quickly recovering from
the decline in oil prices that significantly slowed down the growth of the Canadian
GDP. Because oil plays such a major role in the Canadian economy this had a huge
tole on the overall GDP of this country. But, as the country approaches an increased
GDP the energy sector does not seem to be hindering the GDP any longer. With the
price of oil and gas going back up this has significantly increased the GDP of Canada
due to the large amount of petroleum that Canada produces.
The consumers are also playing the major role in bringing up the overall GDP
through wholesale retail and manufacturing according to an article from Canadian
Business (Castaldo, 2017). Along with more purchases being made by canadian
citizens Canada has also seen a significant increase within the housing market. More
people in Canada are now buying and looking for homes, this could partially be due
to the increase in immigrants within the country. Although the increase in GDP is
great for the country some economist feel as though this will not last long and
Canada will soon see a GDP decline. Due to some government implemented benefits
that have been given to citizens (Castaldo, 2017). With all these things giving rise to
the GDP there is the

also reveals the ignorance of the men in the story, in particular the sheriffand the
county attorney. I think some examples are rather extreme, but in Glaspell s day, they
would have probably been common.
Women did not have many rights at the turn of the century. What few rights and
freedoms they did have were dominated by social standards. They were expected to
cater to their husbands wishes and commands. I think their society oppressed them
more often than their own husbands did. A good... Show more content on

The women seem to understand the hardships the men face, but feel that their own
jobs are more difficult. At that time, men, working outdoors, had set hours, whereas
the women worked almost all of the time they were awake.
The sheriff is particularly critical of Mrs. Wright. He does not consider her work to
be of any worth. He dismisses her concerns about her preserves as pointless, not
taking into consideration her time and effort put into them (Glaspell 264). He
laughs about her wanting an apron while in jail when she most likely wore an
apron daily at home. The county attorney creates a mess of pans under the sink by
kicking them without any regard (Glaspell 264). I wonder if he would appreciate
someone entering his office with such little respect for his things? The deputy
dirties the hand towel, which leads to the county attorney complaining about Mrs.
Wright s house keeping (Glaspell 264). None of the men appreciate Mrs. Wright s
efforts. They are oblivious to her daily life whereas Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters
realize what she had been put through. Only when I realized this did I fully
understand the title, quot;A Jury of Her Peers. quot; By protecting Mrs. Wright,
Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters are truly a jury of her peers.
The county attorney, the sheriff, and his deputies in quot;A Jury of Her Peers quot;

Mary Rowlandson s Captivity Narrative Analysis
Mary Rowlandson s captivity narrative was published anonymously by someone
who wanted to protect Rowlandson as a woman author. Davis writes, the publisher
claims credit for persuading this modest woman to allow publication of her private
material and gives credibility to a work that would not be allowed to stand on its
own because of its female author (58). While the publisher takes credit for getting
Rowlandson to publish her captivity narrative, he also encourages the audience in the
preface to accept the work of Rowlandson, a woman. He even reminds the audience
that Rowlandson is the wife of a minister (Davis 58). By doing all of this, he is
trying to make sure the audience does not discredit her work simply because it was
written by a woman. It is important to understand the women s role in the Puritan
society. The Puritans believe that a woman is Christ s bride, husband s wife, a
mother, and a good wife. Women in this time were required to obey and submit to
men in authority, especially their husbands (Davis 54). This is idea of submitting to
husbands is biblical. Ephesians 5: 22 24 states, Wives, submit to your own husbands,
as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife ... Therefore, just as the church is
subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything (The Bible).
Since the Puritans studied the scripture and followed, it is understandable why this
is a Puritan belief. This idea of submitting is shown between Rowlandson and her
Indian master. She is aware of the consequences and wants to be in favor with him;
therefore, she used her Puritan ideology to gain favor (Davis 54). For example, in
the ninth remove, Rowlandson writes, At last he told me if I would make another
shirt, for a papoose not yet born, he would give me a knife, which he did when I had
done it (280). In this passage, Rowlandson is submitting to her master by making
another shirt in order to receive a knife from him. Overall, in her narrative, it is seen
that Rowlandson stays true to the Puritan belief of women submitting to men, even
though it is not her husband. Many Puritans saw this captivity as a punishment for
sins similar to the forty years of wandering for the
Turning Points In Medieval Music
There are many categories of turning points we can discover and value, but looking at
the intervalic relationships in the harmony throughout these 1,650 years makes it
much easier to determine the definitive turning points. This advantage comes from
the notion that harmony can be studied in a very scientific manner. Composers
undoubtedly use specific intervals for specific reasons in a period of history, which
provides clear evidence of actual changes in music. For example, the medieval
harmony from the middle ages contains mostly intervals of the perfect fifth, the
perfect fourth, octave, and unison (typically on the final note). At the time, these
intervals dominated the harmonic and melodic structures because of the musicians
natural ability... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
About a minute and a half into it, the harmony moves in full triads and thirds,
particularly on the words virginem ornare. To achieve this, Dufay had a bass pedal
tone with two voices on top in a combination of fourths and thirds (and sixths) above
the bass. In doing this, he gains control of the direction of the harmony, simply
because there are more options. Although the third was considered dissonant in the
middle ages, gradually over time the interval was accepted as consonant on a cultural
level. Eventually, composers began to realize that they could expand their creativity
and control exponentially with the implementation of the third. Just as the original
superparticular ratios in the medieval music opened the doors for thirds to be
incorporated into the melodies and harmonies, these harmonic practices could have
theoretically lead to any other
Essay about Beowulf as a Messianic Narrative
Beowulf as a messianic narrative has been a subject of great controversy. Given the
time period, Christianity was not completely established, and it was entwined with
cultural paganism, as seen woven throughout the text. The definition of a messianic
narrative (containing the ultimate messianic figure) is found in Isaiah53, a prophecy
spoken by God through the Hebrew prophet Isaiah. This is the standard to which
Beowulfmust be compared to determination the nature of the poem. Many scholars
such as Harold Bloom (quoting E. Talbot Donaldson), Roberta Frank, Rich Lawson,
Seamus Heaney, and J. R. R. Tolkien (quoting R. W. Chambers) have critically
viewed Beowulf to determine the nature of the epic, resulting in a diverse range of...

Bloom and Donaldson argue that whilst Christian elements are present, heroic
paganism is more prevalent in Beowulf. This is supported by the death of Beowulf,
reading, of all the world kings, [he was] keenest for fame, summarising Beowulf, and
suggesting his life only amounted to self glorification.
In assessing the Christianity of Beowulf, Frank suggests that, like King Alfred did
of Remiguis s commentaries, the author of Beowulf used pagan analogies for
Christian concepts. Lawson explores this in the role fate has throughout the poem.
The Geat prince placed all his trust in...his Maker s favour, Then Beowulf speaks,
The Father...shall apportion the honours...to whichever side shall seem to Him fit, .
The poet wrote, Fate had not assigned him the glory of battle, . The composer s
personification of Fate portrays the place it has taken God s place. Lawson writes
of this, The pagan concept of fate...is tied to God, suggesting that Beowulf is
resigned to fate, but the author is using this to illustrate the nature of God. Frank also
states, What matters is how the rulers...served God s purpose, , also calling Beowulf
a, Pagan prince of peace, . While Beowulf demonstrates a pagan trust in fate, Lawson
and Frank believe it was the author using paganism to convey the messianic narrative,
and that Beowulf was instrumental in doing so.
In analysing Beowulf, Lawson concluded it was a messianic narrative including a
messianic figure,
The Value Of Movies In Movies And Film Education
Your movies are shit , said to me, the first year, senior, film major at the best arts
boarding school in country. I have tirelessly made film after film since the age of
eight, eventually wanting to reach even higher with my film education. Having
been given the privilege to actually study film in a classroom setting, I was ecstatic.
After being told my whole life how talented I am, after getting into the best high
school film program in the country, my ego was shattered when my stone faced
roommate didn t even make eye contact while mumbling Your movies just aren t
good. I would consider myself literate. I ve been through 1st grade being an avid
reader along the way so my understanding of English is quite decent. Although the
concept of being literate is not that simple. Take someone with a masters degree in
English and drop them in some African village, their literacywill mean nothing.
Literacy is based on surroundings. Though to be literate is not only to be proficient
in reading and writing. One can be literate in math, science, history, art, or in my
case... film.
My roommate was a year and a half younger than me and he had the nerve to tell
me I was no good. It was the age difference that struck me. I was on such a high
pedestal that I failed to notice his quite apparent talent. Your movies are shit was the
best advice I could receive from someone like him at the time. I ve never been told
that before! Although due to my arrogance I took his comments with a grain

How does the piece Ocean by John Butler use guitar techniques to appeal popular to
the 21st century audience?
The piece Ocean by John Butler appeals popular to the 21st century audience through
his variety of guitar techniques. Butler uses an 12 stringed semi acoustic guitar with
open C tuning and Capo on the 4th fret giving an open chord of E Major. The song is
through composed and consists of several sections that demonstrate guitar techniques
and musical concepts.

The introduction has a piano volume level with sustained power chords (A5, B5,
G#5, E5) layered behind the C# melody.

The chords are more aggressively played and create contrast in comparison to the
prominence of finger picking in previous sections. This changes the tone colour again
to something more aggressive and what seems to be building up as the song
progresses.
The call and response technique is also repeated with the chords above being one of
the responses however the call is a variation of the first call in previous section 28
1.18sec.
It uses the same notes in different patterns, rhythms and orders which creates a
similarity for the audience to compare with but also a technique. Through this
technique the audience become more familiarised but it s not a repeated riff therefore
making it exactly what Butler hoped to achieve, a variation, creating similarities and
differences for the human ear to encounter.
Although finger picking is continued throughout this section, it is done so more
aggressively. There is also a country type run that is repeated 3 times throughout this
section. This creates a hook and allows this piece to appeal to more than one genre.
This section concludes with a run or lowering pitch and a repeat of open notes of
the E Major open chord created by the capo:
Each section leads into the next and by this excerpt it obvious that although the
section started heavy it has lowered down to lead into the next section which enhances

increase as it grew to become the second largest cable provider in the United States.
Time Warner had grown into a major player in the media industry through a number
of high profile mergers and acquisitions. In 1998 Time Inc. and Warmer Brothers
merged in a deal where Time bought Warner Brothers for $14.9 billion. Gerald
Levin, who had been CEO of Time Warnersince December 1992, had done an
excellent job in the eyes of the shareholders. Despite his remarkable success in his

1.1Background to the Study
The assessment of Indomie noodles TV commercials among children is diverse and
it has attracted or resulted to this research. Television as a means of communication
is widely believed to be the most persuasive and effective medium. This is facilitated
by the unique features of television which is the combination of sight, sound and
motion. These features account for the diverse viewer ship. Robert Reed (2007)
defines television according to the federal communications commissions as the
synchronous transmission of visual and aural signals. The picture phase is
accomplished by sending or rapid succession of electronic impulses which the

XYZ Construction Inc. like many other organizations has outgrown its geographical
boundaries and as a result the leadership team plans on expanding its horizontal
construction nationally and internationally. du Plessis (2009) suggested that
globalization and internationalization challenges are now demanding that
organizational managers fine tune or draft new policies and procedures to stay
competitive in the global markets. As such, the leadership within XYZ Construction

One of the reasons is that Chinese IPO markets are known to be extremely
underpriced and as a result China ranks first among 45 countries with respect to
IPO underpricing. Guo et al. (2011) also suggested that there is a great number of
optimistic investors waiting for high initial day returns despise the greatly reduced
potential benefit from IPOs, nevertheless they are still thought to be highly
profitable. Lastly, during the last decade or so the IPO market in China has
developed and maintained a good track record for profits. Consequently, the China
example is encouraging to support the investors desire to launch XYZ Construction,
Inc. IPO, which as aforementioned may very well benefit from an underpriced IPO
market. Additionally, it is prudent to point out that there are expenses associated
with an IPO yet these are worth in the long run. As suggested by Booth (2011.)
Underpricing comes at the expense of the original owners and venture capitalists of
the issuing firm (Booth, 2011, p. 4). However, there is a general tendency that
investors do not sell their shares after the lockup period expires, nevertheless,
underpricing will be considered a predictable cost of going public (Booth, 2011).
Lastly, XYZ Construction, Inc. stakeholders should realize encouraging results as
capital is generated while simultaneously growing the market capital in both domestic
and international markets.

Grace Throughout the Bible Essay
I will look at the lives of Moses, Haggai and Ester who with God s grace overcame
huge obstacles in their families, situations, and beliefs to further God s Kingdom in
amazing ways. In Philip Yancey s Book What s so Amazing About Grace? Yancey
says that grace, Contains the essence of the gospel as a drop of water can contain
the image of the sun. (Yancey, 12) This and Gods promise that his grace will never
leave us makes grace an incredible theme throughout the Bible. Grace is an incredible
thing that is defined in a variety of ways. In the book Learning About Grace from

In The Butterfly Effect of Grace by Rex G. Russell the idea that grace is one of the
most important words in the Bible is widely discussed. Russell says that grace is the
single most important word to describe God s love for us. When God speaks to
Moses and fills him with his grace God is showing us how much he loves us. Russell
challenges his reader to live a life overflowing with grace. Much like how Moses
lived his life. In such a way that the people around him couldn t help but take notice
that Moses was chosen by God and with his grace was able to do work for his
kingdom.
Ester overcomes her place as a woman and saves the Hebrews. In the book Flawed
Families of the Bible by David Diana Garland we see the connections between
family struggles and the grace that surfaces within. Yet it is in these broken places
that we catch glimpses of God s grace and healing, of God silently reaching in to
touch the wound, and broken people stepping up to do what is right. (Garland, 14)
God s grace works in people and situations that have imperfections. Esther came
from a small village, was orphaned as a child, was raised by her cousin Mordecai and
was Jewish. She had a broken family and the deck was stacked against her but she
had favor with God and was given not only his grace but also the grace of the king.
And the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained

The Violence Against Women Act of 1994
John Kingdon s Garbage Can model argues that the policymaking process consists of
three streams problems, politics, and policies that flow independently from one
another. When these three streams meet it creates a window of opportunity and
public policy is a result. The Violence Against Women Act of 1994 (VAWA) is an
example of the Kingdon Garbage Can model . The VAWA was passed as part of the
Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 in recognition of the
severity of crimes associated with domestic violence and sexual assault. It was the
first federal legislation that addressed violence uniquely targeted at women and their
children.
The Violence Against Womens Act of 1994 provided $1.6 billion towards the
prosecution and investigation of violent crimes against women and it also did a
series of things that helped to improve criminal justice response to violence against
women. The act strengthened federal penalties for repeat sex offenders and created
rape shield laws that prevented offenders from using a victim past sexual experience
in a trial of sexual assault. The VAWA required that protection orders be enforced and
recognized everywhere in the United States. It increased the rates of prosecution,
conviction and sentencing of offenders and funded the training for 500,000 law
enforcement each year to ensure that the police who respond

Another example of how this lesson is developed is when Hannah explains to her

just that part. Unfortunately, you can t be that precise and selective. When you

that their actions have such an impact on Hannah s feelings. Therefore, she makes

Hannah, though it seemed meaningless at the moment, really did have a huge impact

Analysis of a Paint Called Memorialized by Tyanna Buie
Thomas Merton once said Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the
same time . This is completely true. Throughout the semester we have gone
through almost as many as 300 pictures we view, learn, decompose into the criteria
it meets and talk about the controversial things it has, while we do this we don t
recognize that we also identify the form, content, iconography, and context. All
four areas are what the paint, picture or sculptures identity is. I was lucky enough
to visit my buddy out at WIU. There are many works in the art gallery, around the
union and even outside walking around, but one that did catch my attention and
had me thinking about it for quite some time. It was a painting called
Memorialized by Tyanna Buie, was made in 2011 and measures 38 x50 . The
content it has is beautiful, the form is wicked, context is superb and iconography
is permanent. It reminds me of artwork we ve gone through the semester. The
painting was being showed at the art gallery in end of March. It s now May and I
can still picture it in my head so detailed, without even looking at a picture of it. It
s a piece of work I have connected to, yet lost myself in. This painting shows
around five colors being used; red, green gold, pink and white. These colors mean
so much in every day life. The form shows how lines play a big role in the body as
they re symmetric all around the torso, but when connected to the head it seems to
turn into scribbles that look like flowers

Thomas Malthus Research Paper
Thomas Malthus, an economist during the 18th century, proposed a theory regarding
the correlation between population growth and the status of society. He wrote an
essay expressing his beliefs that led to a controversial discussion. Mathus thought that
as population doubles, food resources grew singularly. Because of this, he believed
that as a populationgrew, a lack of resources would cause a continuous cycle of
penury and distress. Malthus was incorrect in stating that population growths leads to
pennilessness and agony because food production has increased with the help of
technology.
Malthus was incorrect in his thinking because the amount of food being produced has
been able to sustain the world population. According to Document A, the
Television As A Dominant Theme On Mass Sitcoms
Friends is an American television sitcom, which was remembered as one of the most
in the television history. It marked a change in American culture and also stood out
that a culture where the image of youth has become dominant. The prior sitcoms were
aiming to focus on the live of nuclear families that father and mother were the center
and knew the best, which represented the generation of Baby Boomer. In contrast,
Friends centered on the characters own lives with angst, ambition, fluid notion of
family, and youth culture. It was considered a dominant theme on mass sitcoms,
which reflected a mainstream trend in the society. A generation X represented that
the young people would not be better of than its parents.
As society developed rapidly, mass media became integrated into the American
household. Television was the most significant invention in the 1950s, sharping
American political life and creating a new advertising method of advertising (Out of

The 1960 election campaign featured the first ever televised presidential debates
between John F. Kennedy and Richard M. Nixon. There were about eighty five
million audiences who watched these debates, demonstrating the sweeping influence
of television. In the 1950s, only about nine percent of Americans had a television.
However, approximately 90 percent of American households owned a television. The

Unless you are an avid viewer of the Food Network or delve very deeply into the
world of cake decorating and sugar work, the name Kerry Vincent might not ring a
bell. However, I spent my sick days as a small child watching The Food Network
Challenge and immediately admiring the painfully harsh comments that originated
from Kerry Vincent. When given the task of interviewing a person I find to be
successful, it didn t take long before my thoughts turned toward her. Besides being a
judge on The Food Network Challenge , she holds the title of Master Sugar Artist,
founded the Oklahoma Sugar Art Show, and assisted in introducing fondant and gum
paste to the United States. I was ecstatic to receive an email back inquiring about
when the interview would take place. On television, Kerry Vincent can seem harsh,
and she is often criticized for being so. This is one of the reasons I admire her. She
tells the truth... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you are a pastry chef at a prestigious kitchen and someone asks you a question
about your craft and you cannot give an answer, you will look foolish and the
respect that drove that person to ask you the question will have been lost.
However, if you are exceptionally knowledgeable about your craft and are able to
speak on the topic well, the person will respect you more. On another note, it is not
professional to seem to have no knowledge on what is supposed to be your job.
The Culinary Institute of America prides itself on professionalism. The last think I
want to do is to give the CIA a bad name because I was unprepared. This principle is
evident when Mrs. Vincent is judging a competition. Kerry Vincent is known for
giving harsh criticisms, but no one has ever corrected her because she is never
wrong. Also, no one ever has to ask her to repeat herself because she says exactly
what she means very clearly and
Asberg Depression Case Study
This assignment is based on a 32 year old Hispanic male that is suffering from
severe depression in accordance to the Montgomery Asberg Depression Rating
Scale. Depression is identified as a mood disorder that can have a detrimental impact
on an individual s life if not abruptly treated. Symptoms of depression is noticeable
by peers when the individual have loud outbursts, irritability, sleep disturbance,
trouble concentrating, or reduced appetite. According to Pae et al. (2008), Significant
unmet medical need remains in the treatment of depressive and anxiety disorders.

An ethical concern is that older people are more susceptible to adverse reaction when
prescribed antidepressants. Little is known about more serious adverse effects of
antidepressants, particularly in older people, in whom adverse drug events may be
more common in the treatment of depression compared with younger groups because
of higher levels of comorbidity, age related physiological changes, and polypharmacy
Coupland (2011). Provider must keep this ethical consideration in mind when
prescribing antidepressants to other people. Another ethical concern is that Hispanics
usually consult traditional healers. In this case, it is important to inform clients that
all herbs and medications taken should be shared with the provider to prevent
adverse reactions. There are pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamics considerations
in the elderly population. Reduced elimination and prolonged half life are most
commonly observed pharmacokinetic changes in older patients whereas altered
sensitivity to drugs and change in receptor affinity are major pharmacodynamic
changes. These potential changes should be considered in designing dosage regimen
to elderly population during clinical and pharmaceutical development as well as
prescription Mukker et al. (2016). Elderly patients should be started on a lower dose
when prescribing
Transcendental Dialectic Analysis
The relational structure of Ideas The project of the transcendental dialectic is well
known. Kant s primary aim is that of warning us against the danger involved in the
misunderstanding and hypostatising of the concepts of reason.5 Nonetheless, this
section of the Critique of Pure Reason does not play a purely negative role; instead, it
furthers a positive enquiry of what Reason is, what its contents are, and what is their
purpose. These concepts, also labeled as ideas of pure reason or transcendental
ideas6, are defined as being those concepts which contain the unconditioned .7 In
other words, they are related to the transcendental premises of possible experience,
that is, to infinite and unconditioned pure notions unattainable through
Reflection Of A Literate Classroom
In the first part of my assignment I will be writing about the literate classroom.
Throught out the course of the assignment I will be critically analaysing what a
literate classroom looks like and how a teacher can enable this in a primary school
setting. My primary focus will be on how the literate classroom looks like in the
early years. The classroom has an esstainal role for the learning procress of a child.
It s not only a place for students to just sit at thir desk and listen to the teacher but
also a safe eveviroment for the children to learn. The way a classroom is arranged can
improve the learning ennrioment. Savage (1999) stated that the classroom
envrioment has shown that the arragaemnt and the decoration of the classroom can...

Using the walls of the classroom is also a way to create a literacy rich classrromm
enviorment (Lyon, 1998) this can vary from a simple alphabet line to the essay
written by the children. It is important to have print display promentaly around the
classroom so the kids can was a visual aid to their writing. This can be achieve
throught something big like a word wall where the a group of words are displated
on the wall of the classroom. The words are prineted in a larfe font so that they are
easily visible for the students. This project is usally done by having the whole
classroom collaborate as a team and can be center around a commen theme.
However the classroom is not the only componate in a literate classroom
odvilously the teachers have the most important role in creating a literate
classroom. The classroom is just a tool is up to the teacher to use it correctly. A
literate classroom will be one full of purposeful interaction between children and
adults. Teachera and students alike need to strive to support each other and to
encourage and to celebrate the power and pleasures of language and literacy (

The Indian Direct Taxation Regime Essay
I.INTRODUCTION
Albert Einstein once remarked that the hardest thing in the world is to understand
Income tax laws. The Indian Direct taxation regime has been described as the most
complex web of laws, rules, regulations which are extremely difficult to interpret and
even more difficult to implement and adhere to. This has led to increased litigation,
loss of revenue and slowed economic growth along with an unpredictable, complex
and difficult taxation regime in India.
Various governmental committees, eminent lawyers and world famous economists
have advocated the idea of phasing out deductions, exemptions and incentives
provided under the Income tax laws in India viz. a viz. a reduction in the corporate tax
. The reasons behind such a measure range from simplifying the complex nature of
the Income tax regime in India to reduce the cost of collection of tax and to ensure a
low level of corporate tax.
MAT or minimum alternative tax is imposed to ensure that profit making entities do
not take undue advantage of the deductions, exemptions and incentives accorded to
them under the IT Act, 1961 and substantially reduce their tax liability.
Clearly, the above ideas are in conflict with each other in that the former talks about
phasing out deductions, exemptions or other incentives to ensure a simplified
taxation regime while the latter talks about imposing a complex type of tax to ensure
that the entities do not take undue advantage of the deduction, exemptions and
incentives.

Theory Of Mind And False Beliefs
What Is False Belief
False belief can best be explained by putting it into a wider context of the Theory
of Mind . Theory of Mind was first proposed in a study observing the behaviour of
chimpanzees by Premack and Woodruff (1978). Soon after, Theory of Mind became
a well known concept in the field of psychology. Simon Baron Cohen (e.g. 1989,
2001) used it to conceptualize autism. He defines ToM, often abbreviated ToM and
often referred to as mindreading (Whiten, 1991), or mentalizing (Frith, Morton,
Leslie, 1991), as being able to understand that other people have beliefs, intentions,
emotions, and desires which drive their actions and which are different to the ones we
have. When describing ASD children, he then refers to them as ... Show more content

Since many ASD kids have a problem with generalising the skills they have been
taught (Baron Cohen, 2001), that is, transferring knowledge to a different context, it
is crucial to practice with them every day. One way to improve false belief and
theory of mind on a daily basis is, simply, by being a good example for the child to
follow. It has been proven beneficial to talk about feelings and what others might
think in one situation or another as much as possible. For example, when disciplining
a child it is essential to encourage them to think about what their behaviour might
have caused in others, asking them How they would feel if someone did that to them
(Ruffman, Perner, Parkin, 1999).
Another effective way of improving social skills is by engaging in conversation with
the child as much as possible. It is important not to just ask them yes or no questions
but to prompt them to express themselves, to engage in telling stories. In the long run,
this can help with such aspects of conversational skills as paying more attention when
someone is talking to them, being actively engaged in conversation by taking turns
and taking into consideration what the other person is thinking, showing interest and
staying on topic (Chin Bernard Opitz,

This paper discusses the elements of the Imaginary, Symbolic, and Real Orders in
Aasmani s life and studies how these orders operate and lead to an awareness of the
fragmented constructed nature of the self, which ultimately enables her to put herself
together.
Shamsie is a Pakistani author, who in her novels, consistently presents Pakistani
society as a highly complex, mind boggling, sophisticated society, crammed with
distinctive and memorable characters. Broken Verses (2005) is Shamsie s fourth
novel, a striking story which is a continuation and development of Shamsie s
distinctive and appealing writing voice. Kamila Shamsie weaves a story that skilfully
combines political intrigue with family dynamics. In the Journal of Postcolonial

The symbolic order is the social world of linguistic communication, intersubjective
relations, knowledge of ideological conventions, and the acceptance of the law.
Once the subject enters into language and accepts the rules and dictates of society, it
is able to deal with others. The acceptance of language s rules is aligned with the
Oedipus complex, according to Lacan. The symbolic is made possible because of
your acceptance of the Name of the Father (the fundamental signifier which permits
signification to proceed normally), those laws and restrictions that control both your
desire and the rules of communication (Evans 121). Through recognition of the Name
of the Father, one is able to enter into a community of others. The symbolic, through
language, is the pact which links... subjects together in one action. The human action
par excellence is originally founded on the existence of the world of the symbol,
namely on laws and contracts (Lacan 230). The symbolic represents a further remove
from the mother. We are all cut off from the Imaginary, primordial state and long for

dignity because he could no longer interact with other humans. It was the author s
idea of the worst case scenario that could have occurred to a soldier who was injured.
The description of his injuries gave the reader a picture of what it would be like to
have lived with no legs, arms, or a face.
It was a gruesome thought that helped personalize the story by making the reader feel
bad for the main character. At this time many perceived fighting in a war to be noble
but for most of the soldiers it was anything but noble.
Many times television shows, movies, and books had glamorized war, but that was
not the truth. This book showed the harsh reality of war that most people didn t know
existed at the time. War is something that no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Obviously this is not a good solution, which is why we must find other ways to solve
our disputes. This book changed my attitude towards war and the men who fight in
them.
As evidenced from the past tense verb in the title of the novel, Johnny Got His Gun
takes as its focus the aftermath of war for a soldier, rather than the optimistic,
patriotic prewar time frame upon which other novels as well as the original song
quot;Johnny Get Your Gun quot; focus. Although the novel remains clear about
the fact that Johnny received his injuries from an exploding shell, Johnny does not
ever think back to combat warfare. The novel takes as its opponent not combat
warfare but rather the mentality of warfare and organization of modern warfare by
the moneyed classes. Joe s memories related to the war, such as the Lazarus story,
or the story of the man with a flap over his stomach, do not directly deal with
warfare. Instead, these various memories create a sense of the incomprehensible
decay, injury, and pain that result from war. Joe remembers the stories with a wry
tone that gives a sense of the absurdity of each of the situations such as the rumor
about the man who lost his face only to return home and die at his wife s hands. In
this sense, the use of the war in the text remains true to its use in the title of the
novel: the war exists as a precondition for senseless and grotesque injury and
The Role of Malvolio in Twelfth Night Essay
The Role of Malvolio in Twelfth Night
The main storyline in Twelfth Night is love between Cesario, Orsino, Olivia and
later on in the play Sebastian. Malvolio s part in the play is a backdrop situation
separate from the main story. He brings a level of both humour and sympathy to the
play. Malvolio is one of the main sources of humour in Twelfth Night. In the later part
of the play a different side of him is exposed.
Malvolio is Olivia s steward and his job is to manage Olivia s house; he is her chief
servant. It s a very responsible job that he takes very seriously. He enjoys telling
people what to do.
During the course of the play Malvolio can be seen in many different lights. At the ...

Twelfth Night is referring to the twelfth night after Christmas, Epiphany. Today, the
Twelfth Night after Christmas means the day we take down the decorations, but
back in 1600 when the play was written it had a different meaning. Epiphany was a
time for celebrating and partying. People used to have parties on Twelfth Night and
it was traditional to play practical jokes at this time. These included tricks such as
hiding live birds in an empty pie case, so that they flew away when the startled
guests cut open the crusts. It was a mad time full of pranks and confusion, just as in
the play. This name, Twelfth Night , therefore seems appropriate for this play due to
all the confusion and the banter that goes on in the confusing storyline.
In Twelfth Night we see different types of humour. There is the word play, the
vulgar humour of Sir Toby, stupidity of Sir Andrew, Malvolio s foolishness , and the
general confusion caused by Viola s disguise.
Shakespeare used dirty and witty humour in most of his plays but it is perhaps
most obvious in Twelfth Night. He used different types of humour to please all of
the people who flocked to see his plays. There was always an array of people, and
they all needed to be kept interested. There were the peasants that he could entertain
with the dirty jokes and humour. An example of this is this is my lady s hand these

Summary Of The Peopling Of British North America
After receiving his PhD from Harvard in 1953, American historian, author, and
academic specialist, Bernard Bailyn, continues to transform ideas of early American
history with his award winning books. As we know, the foundation of today s
American Society leads back to the transfer of people from the Britain to the New
World, in the early 1600s. In his book, Bernard Bailyn, author of The Peopling of
British North America, An Introduction, gathers demographic, social, and economic
history research to form four propositions relating to the migration. While identifying
central themes of our history, he attempts to present an overview for American
knowledge relating to the causes of migration to the new world and consequences of

In the early 1600s, many young men migrated to America because they saw an
opportunity to gain wealth and riches. For others it was the accruing of land, or a
get out of jail card for those in debtors prison. In the late 1800s migration to
America can be traced to the potato blight in Ireland, or those who simply wanted to
work in factories and make a living. This is the idea the Bailyn discusses in his third
proposition. There were several migrations to America, the two main concerning land
and the work force, but each one separately calls on different social and economic

Essay On Water Pollution
Chapter One
The Problem and Its Setting
Water is essential to life. It provides an efficient way to transfer substances from a
cell to the cell s environment. Which is why there is usually no positive impacts
when referring to water pollution as it is a major global problem. Water pollution
is the contamination of water bodies. It exist as a result of harmful substances being
inserted into water bodies whether purposely or accidently. When observed it has an
affect on the entire ecological system, and most occurrences negatively impact
whole species as it is the leading cause of death and disease. On account of water
being an vital component of life on Earth, if it is indeed contaminated, it will deplete
the health of the plant and every living thing on it.
Background of the Study
Water pollution can affect the macroinvertebrates that live in the water and they can
become contaminated. When the consumption of influenced macroinvertebrates
occur and travel throughout the food chain based around the body of water, toxins
that contaminated the supply are now spread. The water quality can determine which
type of macroinvertebrates inhabit the bodies of water because there are pollution
sensitive and pollution tolerant macroinvertebrates. If the bodies of water are only
inhabited by pollution tolerant macroinvertebrate that suggest that the water is highly
contaminate and those are the only macroinvertebrates that can survive there.

Canadian Magazine Dispute Essay
Discussion on Canadian Magazine dispute
Q.1: To what extent do you think the U.S. Canadian magazine dispute was
motivated by genuine desires to protect Canadian culture? I suspect that the real
motive of the Canadian government was not to protect Canadian culture in this
dispute with the US. But rather, it seemed to concern more with political and
economic factors. As appeared in the article, the Canadian government finally gave
in and went on to settle the dispute (The Levin Institute, [1]). To me, that seems
somewhat irrational to suddenly give up on one s culture like they did, when the
US threated to retaliate with trade barriers. As a speculation, I believe the dispute
was motived by political and economic concerns. The Canadian government was
attempting to defend the local media from a total domination by foreign media
since it implies that Canadian businesses will be paying foreign corporations to
have their products and services advertised on a magazine, even when local
magazines have the capacity to provide the same type of service. Simply put, the
concern seems to be related to the higher outflows of capital.
Q.2: To what extent do you think the government of Canada was pressured to seek to
protect its market because of the financial interests of the Canadian magazine
industry? As mentioned above, I believe that economic interests was the main reason
that causes the Canadian government to take action as they also sought to protect the
trade balance, so it
The Economics Of The Nfl
The Economics of the NFL BY: TY TAYLOR While growing up in the state of
Texas I was introduced to National Football League (NFL) at a very young age.
Not only was I obsessed with great players like Emmitt Smith and Michael Irving, I
had a more finical appreciation for the lucrativeness associated with the NFL. My
young adulthood as well as my teenage years was spent playing and learning
football with the aspirations of hopefully making it to the NFL. Unfortunately, my
playing days ended with tryouts at Texas Tech University, but my love for the
game has remained stagnant over the years even till this day. The NFL today is
Americas most watched sports league and has taken the crown as the most
lucrative and unique economic force in sports. Forbes offered approximations
stating that on average, the NFL generates more than $6 9 billion a year in
revenues alone. A third of the individual franchises in the league were appraised at
over more than $1 billion while the other franchises average nine figures or higher.
The NFL as an organization generates its revenues through a multitude of ways
ranging from huge television contracts, in stadium ticket sales, advertising ads paid
for by sponsors and merchandise. Their business model unlike most other leagues, is
centered on a hard salary cap on player contracts which provides cost certainty with
its sponsors. In this paper, I will examine the economic and historical narrative
associated with the growth of the NFL s

  • 2. Eagle Scout Project Observation Report The act of service that meant the most to me was my Eagle Scout Project. I began planning it in November of 2014 and finished April 2015. It was one of the largest things I planned from concept to final product. Before my Eagle Scout Project, In my town, the park is one of the most used venues in our community and most of it is beautiful but in front of the bathrooms was an area that was overgrown and had corn growing in it. I had to go through many steps of bureaucracy just to get approval, plan everything in detail, and execute the project effectively. Initially, I had to gain approval from my troop and city for an initial plan. I planned to build some raised beds filled with native North Carolinian flowers. Firstly, I had to obtain approval from the benefactor, my scoutmaster, a unit committee member, and a council advancement committee member. The benefactor member who worked with me was the City Manager, Homer Deerman. Mr. Deerman was an Eagle Scout member himself and greatly helped plan what my project should be and how to navigate through the local government. Once I had his approval I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The very same park I wanted to help fell under controversy. The Christian Flagwas flying at the veterans memorial and someone threatened to sue, so the city council decided to take the flag down. This was one week before the city council meeting. A meeting that should have been one hour lasted three and a half hours. After 2 hours of people yelling at the council men for being Godless Fascists and other slurs, I was finally up at the podium, sick as a dog. I explained what my project was, why I wanted to do this, and a timescale for completion. They were so relieved that, for a short period of time, no one was yelling at them and happily approved my project. I later found out that, in addition to me, every councilman had a cold also. I finally was able to execute my

Tradition was strongly influenced by their religious beliefs which caused them to resist change. Ancient Egyptian religion was a complex system of polytheistic beliefs and rituals which were an integral part of ancient Egyptian society. In ancient Egypt they believed in not one but many gods. Gods were worshipped and certain gods represented certain parts of ancient Egypt. Their religionhosted about several different gods and goddesses. Religion affected their society and determined social class. Their beliefs left Pharaohs and priests in Ancient Egypt at the highest of social statuses. Besides the kind, in marriage Egyptians were expected to be monogamous in their relationships. Marriage in ancient Egypt was an arrangement of property. Once married, the women would become pregnant because the tradition, due to religion, was to have a large family. According to Douglas J. Brewer, Like so many other aspects of Egyptian culture, senet had a religious significance, and the game was likened to passing through the underworld (Brewer). It was said to be believed that the successful player was under the protection of the major gods of the national pantheon. The Senet boards were usually placed along graves for the journey through afterlife. In ancient Egypt, the young men were not usually allowed to pick their own choice of career(s). The system was of inheritance, meaning the son would become what his father is/was. However, for a young men to become a priest, they would be chosen by a king and they would become his apprentice into becoming a priest. The ancient Egypt social pyramid was painted as Pharaoh s the highest of ranks followed by nobles, priests, officials and then by scribes, merchants and at the bottom of the social pyramid would be the farmers and servants. We ve gone from clunky computers and dial up internet to a computer the size of a phone and 3G internet. We ve made incredible medical advances, and we re finally also starting to use our technology to better help our planet, but there s still so much to create, discover, and learn about. Here are some crazy technologies that could be available by 2025. 1. Widespread use of solar panels Alternative energy is a huge area of contention for a lot of people. The world currently relies so heavily on fossil fuels that switching to other forms of energy means that many people will lose jobs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On top of electric cars, however, we will also have 3D printed ones. Audi has already created their own 3D printed mini car, but Local Motors is taking orders for their full sized 3D printed car. There are two different versions of the car that you can get. One is called the Reload Swim (which is the more regular looking car) and the other is the Reload Sport (which is the sports car version). These cars will also be electric. • 5. The Jezreel Expedition I am currently a sophomore undergraduate archaeology major at the University of Evansville, who plans to use my degree to pursue museum studies. When I was young, I discovered that I wanted to be an archaeologist, prompting me to visit many fascinating museums, such as the Smithsonian, the Metropolitan Museumof Art, and the Louvre. In preparation for this dig, I currently hold a part time job as a team member, at a local fast food pizza establishment. However, this scholarship can also help aid me in participating at my first dig during the 2018 field season at Jezreel, co directed by one of my professors at UE. • 6. Billy Elliot Transition Barriers are guaranteed when individuals venture into new transitions. However, these transitional periods significantly impact one s understanding, often leading to unexpected outcomes that can include otherwise hidden rewards. In Stephen Daldry s 2000 film Billy Elliot and Sylvia Plath s semi autobiographical poem Morning Song, both texts explore the transformative power of obstacles, driven through determination, which encourage viewers that obstacles are only temporary. Through encouragement during transitional periods, individuals may achieve inner growth while simultaneously motivating the growth of others. This is seen through the protagonist, Billy s, restriction and frustration within a close minded community as he aggressively dances... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Billy s determination is shown through the juxtaposing movements and camera angles of the opening and last scene of the film. In the opening scene of the film we are shown Billy jumping and dancing along with the non diegetic sound of Cosmic Dancer by T.Rex. The lyrics I danced myself right out of the womb, foreshadows Billy s destiny and desire to dance which is conflicted towards the expectations of his father. Through the use of a close ups and slow motion it allows the audience see Billy s lively facial expressions, highlighting his innocence. This is juxtaposed to his sharp and precise movements shown in the final scene through close ups and worm eye view, signifying Billy s dominance and power, which he initially lacked. Daldry s use of a extreme close up shot displays Jackie overwhelmed and teary, represents how proud he is towards Billy s perseverance and shows that he is embracing a more feminine side which he initially rejected. As Billy enters the stage and leaps into the air he is situated under the spotlight and dominates the screen, symbolising his successful transition into the world of ballet and _______. The leap is transitioned to the a dull yellow wallpaper, which is shown in the opening scene of the film. The floral wallpaper is symbolic of Billy s search for happiness, which he eventually discovers comes from dancing. Intertextuality of Swan Lake
  • 7. Locke s Theory Rejecting Free Will Essay In this essay I will argue against Locke s theory rejecting free will. I will claim that in Locke s Of Power, he ultimately provides evidence for a limit on liberty in respect to will, rather than the denial of liberty in respect to will altogether. I will provide evidence for my stance, by assessing Locke s definitions for liberty, necessity, and will. I will also rationalize my thesis by assessing the legitimacy of their relationship in respect to Locke s theory, and attempt to uncover answers to ambiguous questions in Locke s doctrines. Locke states that it is folly to suggest that the will can have liberty, is faulty due to them both being powers. He states that powers can only be attributed to agents (people), and that it us improper to suggest that the power of will can have the power of freedom. Moreover, to Locke, the correct statement would be that a person is free to will. He states that an agent is limited in the liberty, to either do or forebear doing something, and accordingly, the power of the will, or the act of it (volition) has the same dual limitations; either willing to do something, or forbearing willing to do something. In answer the question of what determines the will, Locke states one s actions are a result of pleasure (good) and pain (evil). Either one s will attempts to seek pleasure, or eliminate pain (find a comparatively less painful power than the currently proposed pain). Accordingly he considers desire to be a form of pain, or unease.
  • 8. U.S. Municipal Solid Waste In 2011, the Environmental Protection Agency estimated that Americans generated 250 million tons of municipal solid waste, MSW1, of which only 87 million tons were recycled or composted ( Municipal Solid Waste , 1). This value, however, does not represent the total amount waste generated by the United States since MSW only accounts for 2 percent of total wastegenerated. As more trash is generated, space to construct more landfills becomes an issue. In order to reduce the amount of solid waste produced, the federal government must implement and enforce a new waste disposal method that emphasizes compostingfood waste. To begin with, in the U.S., trash is most commonly sent to a landfill, unfortunately though, once it arrives there little ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Across the country cities have taken the initiative to reduce their carbon footprint and enact stricter regulations for sorting trash and collecting it. As stated by Phuong Le of the Seattle Times, Striving to reduce the trash it sends to landfills, Seattle has banned foam take out containers and plastic bags, told residents they must recycle cardboard and compost food scraps... ( Seattle Idea ). In order to eliminate excess waste from entering landfills, Seattle has prohibited the distribution of non decomposable items and encouraged composting and recycling. By introducing strict regulations on non decomposable materials entering the city and having its citizens sort their own trash, the amount of waste that a city sends to landfills will be reduced. Wheeler, journalist for the Baltimore Sun, states, Recycling that food waste instead of burning it or burying can save money...and converting it to compost can help grow new food by enhancing depleted soils ( Maryland Firm ). Wasted food can be converted into compost instead of being discarded in landfills can be used in the growth of new foods while enhancing the soil around it. Since compost is rich in nutrients, the city not only saves money by recycling food waste but it can also profit since the compost can be sold to local farmers and gardeners. • 10. The Basic Idea Of Science THE BASIC IDEA In the field of physical science it has been proved that absolutely everything can be scientifically reduced to one ultimate invisible Essence, something which cannot be contacted by the physical senses. It is therefore only reasonable to say that originally everything must have, and still does, come from It. According to one s way of thinking, different names are given to It: Energy, Principle, Universal Intelligence, Universal Mind, Consciousness, Spirit, God. The Basic Ideas of Science of Mind, pg. 11 Infinite = One The number that best represents the infinite is not a very big number. Infinity is one, not two, or three or more. The infinite is not many, but one. The infinite is indivisible and inseparable. If ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That too is an inescapable realization drawn from the premise of an infinite being. The Infinite cannot be one with just one of us. It must be one with every one of us. Each and everyone is one with the infinite One, God. If you doubt that Jesus came to this conclusion, then consider one question: Why did he say that when we pray we should pray to Our Father, rather than his Father? We are all one with the infinite One. I think that we must accept this premise because it is reasonable; but my insistence that others think and reason as I do would be unreasonable. Anyone can ignore the infinite One; they just can t be separate or apart from It. We can ignore our heritage, our inheritance and our inherent nature. Nevertheless it is with us, even thou we deny it. You can ignore reality, but it doesn t go away. One Reality The Apostle Paul wrote: In him we live, and move, and have our being [Acts 17:28] Jesus said: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you. [Lk. 17:21] God would have to be very small to be within all, and very large to include all. However, to resolve these two extremes, God need only be infinite. Jane Eyre and The Great Gatsby Jane Eyre and The Great Gatsby are two very intresting novels which are very eye opening to one about how society is and the main message I got especially from Jane Eyre is that money is not always the answer to personal happiness and love. Both novels believed in moral convinction where you believe in one viewbook and it does not change for the better or worse. Jane Eyre is a very intresting novel as soon as you open it the first few chapters are shocking as it shows you two big themes one of which is class and the other is gender. In 1947 people would judge you depending on your class and people in society would judge you and treat you by where you are in the hierarchy tree. Another big theme was gender women were treated as third class citizens no freedom at all. Jane Eyre was a novel about an orphan who is adopted into this wealthy family. However she feels completely out the circle and not part of there family. The family certainly did not make her feel part of them either they first saw her as poor because she came from a poor background even though now she is adopted in there family they still saw her like that and secondly she was a girl so that made things worse and those two combinations were not good. At one point in the novel Mr reed said to her You have no business to take our books; you are a dependant, mamma says; you have no money; your father left you none; you ought to beg, and not to live here with gentleman s children like us . . he is telling her

Disease, starvation, and aggressive Native Americans were some factors that lead to the end of several colonies in the Americas. The first successful colonies were Jamestown and Plymouth Plantation. Jamestown and the Plymouth Plantation had several differences like the type of government, relationships maintained with the Native American and the way they became efficient. In 1607, England sent colonists to the coast of Virginia so they could create a new settlement named Jamestown. Captain John Smith led the settlement. Over the first decade of its existence, the colony struggled simply to survive. All they wanted to do was make money and get rich. The discovery of tobacco was a great for Jamestown and they sold anywhere they could for great profits and it lasted through the 1620s. An understanding happened between Powhatan and John Smith led the settlers to establish much needed trade with Powhatan s tribe by early 1608. Even though several fights still broke out between the two groups, they still traded with each other. His good leadership, military experience, and determination gave discipline to the colonists and when he left Jamestown, mortality lowered. The pilgrims went to Plymouth in September 1620 in hopes of making a better life for themselves and their children while being able to worship freely and in peace. Among the group were farmers, woodworkers, shopkeepers, blacksmiths, weavers, and servants. There were also people who went for religious reasons. They were going to settle in Cape Cod but the water was too shallow for the ship to go in and out with supplies and there were also too many Indian tribes. The people had the courage, gratitude to God, and love for one another. The story of the Mayflower, the trip across the Atlantic, to the Plymouth Colony with its tragic first winter, the treaty with the Indian tribes and celebrated First Thanksgiving goes down the ages and around the world. Jamestown used military rule for the first decade as a colony. They soon moved to an assembly that was elected by the people. Because oil plays such a major role in the Canadian economy this had a huge tole on the overall GDP of this country. But, as the country approaches an increased GDP the energy sector does not seem to be hindering the GDP any longer. Glaspell also reveals the ignorance of the men in the story, in particular the sheriffand the county attorney. I think some examples are rather extreme, but in Glaspell s day, they would have probably been common. Women did not have many rights at the turn of the century. • 20. Mary Rowlandson s Captivity Narrative Analysis Mary Rowlandson s captivity narrative was published anonymously by someone who wanted to protect Rowlandson as a woman author. Davis writes, the publisher claims credit for persuading this modest woman to allow publication of her private material and gives credibility to a work that would not be allowed to stand on its own because of its female author (58). While the publisher takes credit for getting Rowlandson to publish her captivity narrative, he also encourages the audience in the preface to accept the work of Rowlandson, a woman. He even reminds the audience that Rowlandson is the wife of a minister (Davis 58). By doing all of this, he is trying to make sure the audience does not discredit her work simply because it was written by a woman. It is important to understand the women s role in the Puritan society. The Puritans believe that a woman is Christ s bride, husband s wife, a mother, and a good wife. Women in this time were required to obey and submit to men in authority, especially their husbands (Davis 54). This is idea of submitting to husbands is biblical. Ephesians 5: 22 24 states, Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife ... Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything (The Bible). Since the Puritans studied the scripture and followed, it is understandable why this is a Puritan belief. This idea of submitting is shown between Rowlandson and her Indian master. She is aware of the consequences and wants to be in favor with him; therefore, she used her Puritan ideology to gain favor (Davis 54). For example, in the ninth remove, Rowlandson writes, At last he told me if I would make another shirt, for a papoose not yet born, he would give me a knife, which he did when I had done it (280). In this passage, Rowlandson is submitting to her master by making another shirt in order to receive a knife from him. Overall, in her narrative, it is seen that Rowlandson stays true to the Puritan belief of women submitting to men, even though it is not her husband. Many Puritans saw this captivity as a punishment for sins similar to the forty years of wandering for the

Turning Points In Medieval Music There are many categories of turning points we can discover and value, but looking at the intervalic relationships in the harmony throughout these 1,650 years makes it much easier to determine the definitive turning points. This advantage comes from the notion that harmony can be studied in a very scientific manner. Composers undoubtedly use specific intervals for specific reasons in a period of history, which provides clear evidence of actual changes in music. For example, the medieval harmony from the middle ages contains mostly intervals of the perfect fifth, the perfect fourth, octave, and unison (typically on the final note). At the time, these intervals dominated the harmonic and melodic structures because of the musicians natural ability... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... About a minute and a half into it, the harmony moves in full triads and thirds, particularly on the words virginem ornare. To achieve this, Dufay had a bass pedal tone with two voices on top in a combination of fourths and thirds (and sixths) above the bass. In doing this, he gains control of the direction of the harmony, simply because there are more options. Although the third was considered dissonant in the middle ages, gradually over time the interval was accepted as consonant on a cultural level. Eventually, composers began to realize that they could expand their creativity and control exponentially with the implementation of the third. Just as the original superparticular ratios in the medieval music opened the doors for thirds to be incorporated into the melodies and harmonies, these harmonic practices could have theoretically lead to any other

Given the time period, Christianity was not completely established, and it was entwined with cultural paganism, as seen woven throughout the text. This is the standard to which Beowulfmust be compared to determination the nature of the poem. Many scholars such as Harold Bloom (quoting E. Bloom and Donaldson argue that whilst Christian elements are present, heroic paganism is more prevalent in Beowulf. This is supported by the death of Beowulf, reading, of all the world kings, [he was] keenest for fame, summarising Beowulf, and suggesting his life only amounted to self glorification. In assessing the Christianity of Beowulf, Frank suggests that, like King Alfred did of Remiguis s commentaries, the author of Beowulf used pagan analogies for Christian concepts. Lawson explores this in the role fate has throughout the poem. The Geat prince placed all his trust in...his Maker s favour, Then Beowulf speaks, The Father...shall apportion the honours...to whichever side shall seem to Him fit, . The poet wrote, Fate had not assigned him the glory of battle, . The composer s personification of Fate portrays the place it has taken God s place. Frank also states, What matters is how the rulers...served God s purpose, , also calling Beowulf a, Pagan prince of peace, . While Beowulf demonstrates a pagan trust in fate, Lawson and Frank believe it was the author using paganism to convey the messianic narrative, and that Beowulf was instrumental in doing so. In analysing Beowulf, Lawson concluded it was a messianic narrative including a messianic figure,

(Yancey, 12) This and Gods promise that his grace will never leave us makes grace an incredible theme throughout the Bible. Grace is an incredible thing that is defined in a variety of ways. Russell the idea that grace is one of the most important words in the Bible is widely discussed. Russell says that grace is the single most important word to describe God s love for us. When God speaks to Moses and fills him with his grace God is showing us how much he loves us. Russell challenges his reader to live a life overflowing with grace. Much like how Moses lived his life. In such a way that the people around him couldn t help but take notice that Moses was chosen by God and with his grace was able to do work for his kingdom. Ester overcomes her place as a woman and saves the Hebrews. In the book Flawed Families of the Bible by David Diana Garland we see the connections between family struggles and the grace that surfaces within. Yet it is in these broken places that we catch glimpses of God s grace and healing, of God silently reaching in to touch the wound, and broken people stepping up to do what is right. (Garland, 14) God s grace works in people and situations that have imperfections. Esther came from a small village, was orphaned as a child, was raised by her cousin Mordecai and was Jewish. She had a broken family and the deck was stacked against her but she had favor with God and was given not only his grace but also the grace of the king. And the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained

The Violence Against Women Act Of 1994 Jafreicy Amparo Professor Flanagan POL 323: Public Policy Analysis July 28, 2016 The Violence Against Women Act of 1994 John Kingdon s Garbage Can model argues that the policymaking process consists of three streams problems, politics, and policies that flow independently from one another. When these three streams meet it creates a window of opportunity and public policy is a result. The Violence Against Women Act of 1994 (VAWA) is an example of the Kingdon Garbage Can model . The VAWA was passed as part of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 in recognition of the severity of crimes associated with domestic violence and sexual assault. It was the first federal legislation that addressed violence uniquely targeted at women and their children. The Violence Against Womens Act of 1994 provided $1.6 billion towards the prosecution and investigation of violent crimes against women and it also did a series of things that helped to improve criminal justice response to violence against women. The act strengthened federal penalties for repeat sex offenders and created rape shield laws that prevented offenders from using a victim past sexual experience in a trial of sexual assault. The VAWA required that protection orders be enforced and recognized everywhere in the United States. It increased the rates of prosecution, conviction and sentencing of offenders and funded the training for 500,000 law enforcement each year to ensure that the police who respond

Throughout the semester we have gone through almost as many as 300 pictures we view, learn, decompose into the criteria it meets and talk about the controversial things it has, while we do this we don t recognize that we also identify the form, content, iconography, and context. All four areas are what the paint, picture or sculptures identity is. I was lucky enough to visit my buddy out at WIU. There are many works in the art gallery, around the union and even outside walking around, but one that did catch my attention and had me thinking about it for quite some time. It was a painting called Memorialized by Tyanna Buie, was made in 2011 and measures 38 x50 . The content it has is beautiful, the form is wicked, context is superb and iconography is permanent. It reminds me of artwork we ve gone through the semester. The painting was being showed at the art gallery in end of March. It s now May and I can still picture it in my head so detailed, without even looking at a picture of it. It s a piece of work I have connected to, yet lost myself in. This painting shows around five colors being used; red, green gold, pink and white. These colors mean so much in every day life. The form shows how lines play a big role in the body as they re symmetric all around the torso, but when connected to the head it seems to turn into scribbles that look like flowers

  • 42. The Indian Direct Taxation Regime Essay I.INTRODUCTION Albert Einstein once remarked that the hardest thing in the world is to understand Income tax laws. The Indian Direct taxation regime has been described as the most complex web of laws, rules, regulations which are extremely difficult to interpret and even more difficult to implement and adhere to. This has led to increased litigation, loss of revenue and slowed economic growth along with an unpredictable, complex and difficult taxation regime in India. Various governmental committees, eminent lawyers and world famous economists have advocated the idea of phasing out deductions, exemptions and incentives provided under the Income tax laws in India viz. a viz. a reduction in the corporate tax . The reasons behind such a measure range from simplifying the complex nature of the Income tax regime in India to reduce the cost of collection of tax and to ensure a low level of corporate tax. MAT or minimum alternative tax is imposed to ensure that profit making entities do not take undue advantage of the deductions, exemptions and incentives accorded to them under the IT Act, 1961 and substantially reduce their tax liability. Clearly, the above ideas are in conflict with each other in that the former talks about phasing out deductions, exemptions or other incentives to ensure a simplified taxation regime while the latter talks about imposing a complex type of tax to ensure that the entities do not take undue advantage of the deduction, exemptions and incentives. Simon Baron Cohen (e.g. 1989, 2001) used it to conceptualize autism. He defines ToM, often abbreviated ToM and often referred to as mindreading (Whiten, 1991), or mentalizing (Frith, Morton, Leslie, 1991), as being able to understand that other people have beliefs, intentions, emotions, and desires which drive their actions and which are different to the ones we have. Since many ASD kids have a problem with generalising the skills they have been taught (Baron Cohen, 2001), that is, transferring knowledge to a different context, it is crucial to practice with them every day. One way to improve false belief and theory of mind on a daily basis is, simply, by being a good example for the child to follow. It has been proven beneficial to talk about feelings and what others might think in one situation or another as much as possible. For example, when disciplining a child it is essential to encourage them to think about what their behaviour might have caused in others, asking them How they would feel if someone did that to them (Ruffman, Perner, Parkin, 1999). Another effective way of improving social skills is by engaging in conversation with the child as much as possible. It is important not to just ask them yes or no questions but to prompt them to express themselves, to engage in telling stories. In the long run, this can help with such aspects of conversational skills as paying more attention when someone is talking to them, being actively engaged in conversation by taking turns and taking into consideration what the other person is thinking, showing interest and staying on topic (Chin Bernard Opitz,

Although the novel remains clear about the fact that Johnny received his injuries from an exploding shell, Johnny does not ever think back to combat warfare. The novel takes as its opponent not combat warfare but rather the mentality of warfare and organization of modern warfare by the moneyed classes. Joe s memories related to the war, such as the Lazarus story, or the story of the man with a flap over his stomach, do not directly deal with warfare. Instead, these various memories create a sense of the incomprehensible decay, injury, and pain that result from war. Joe remembers the stories with a wry tone that gives a sense of the absurdity of each of the situations such as the rumor about the man who lost his face only to return home and die at his wife s hands. In this sense, the use of the war in the text remains true to its use in the title of the novel: the war exists as a precondition for senseless and grotesque injury and

Canadian Magazine Dispute Essay Discussion on Canadian Magazine dispute Q.1: To what extent do you think the U.S. Canadian magazine dispute was motivated by genuine desires to protect Canadian culture? I suspect that the real motive of the Canadian government was not to protect Canadian culture in this dispute with the US. But rather, it seemed to concern more with political and economic factors. As appeared in the article, the Canadian government finally gave in and went on to settle the dispute (The Levin Institute, [1]). To me, that seems somewhat irrational to suddenly give up on one s culture like they did, when the US threated to retaliate with trade barriers. The Canadian government was attempting to defend the local media from a total domination by foreign media since it implies that Canadian businesses will be paying foreign corporations to have their products and services advertised on a magazine, even when local magazines have the capacity to provide the same type of service. Simply put, the concern seems to be related to the higher outflows of capital. Q.2: To what extent do you think the government of Canada was pressured to seek to protect its market because of the financial interests of the Canadian magazine industry? As mentioned above, I believe that economic interests was the main reason that causes the Canadian government to take action as they also sought to protect the trade balance, so it

Forbes offered approximations stating that on average, the NFL generates more than $6 9 billion a year in revenues alone. A third of the individual franchises in the league were appraised at over more than $1 billion while the other franchises average nine figures or higher. The NFL as an organization generates its revenues through a multitude of ways ranging from huge television contracts, in stadium ticket sales, advertising ads paid for by sponsors and merchandise. Their business model unlike most other leagues, is centered on a hard salary cap on player contracts which provides cost certainty with its sponsors. In this paper, I will examine the economic and historical narrative associated with the growth of the NFL s
