Elvis Presley Influence
Rock and roll music was really started by this one quote: I don t sound like nobody (Marsh).
This quote was said by Elvis when he first met Sun founder Sam Phillips, during a recording
session that Elvis was making for his mother s birthday. Phillips liked Elvis voice and singing
style so much that he thought Elvis was a black man! The public would also have this theory
about him until they actually saw him. Of course, when Elvis Presley walked into Sun Studios in
Memphis, Tennessee, even he could not predict that he was about to change the course of music
history forever. Elvis Presley is the true definition of a rock star. He has basically had music all
around him his entire life. From first hearing the depressing bluesfrom the Mississippi... Show more

Presley was also a terrific dancer, and broke the rules in traditional showmanship, which often
put him in the middle of controversy. Presley has already appeared six times on national
television, but it is his appearance on The Milton Berle Show on June 5, 1956, that triggers the
first controversy of his career. Presley sings his latest single, Hound Dog, with all the pelvis
shaking intensity his fans scream for (Marsh). Elvis chose to dance in this manner to express
himself, and did not see any issues surrounding it. He did what he felt like doing, and would
inspire artists such as James Brown and Jim Morrison of The Doors to have a breathtaking stage
presence. For this reason, several religious groups were outraged at Elvis chosen form of
expression, and started protesting the young singer. Television critics across the country slam the
performance for its appalling lack of musicality, for its vulgarity and animalism. The Catholic
Church takes up the criticism in its weekly organ in a piece headlined Beware Elvis Presley.
Concerns about juvenile delinquency and the changing moral values of the young find a new
target in the popular singer (Marsh). The churches were particularly angered at Presley s dancing,
and rallied against him, much to the chagrin of the teenage fans. In like manner, newspapers
would express public outcries of why Elvis music should be banned from their towns, leading to a
short decline in Elvis record sales. With these two characteristics of performing, Elvis would go on
to inspire countless musicians, all over the

Mass Media s Undermining of Societal Values During Health Care Reform
There is little doubt that three years ago the American people wanted health care reform.
News media saw the controversy over health care reform as a strong issue to discuss in their
productions, and most fulfilled their responsibility as an information medium: to provide equal
opportunity for both sides of this debate to reveal the benefits of their plans and the drawbacks of
their opponents . However, when interest groups became involved in this dispute, advertising their
own beliefs against the Clinton Health Care Reform Plan, they manipulated the public by using
scare tactics. News media incorporated these ads in their coverage of the benefits and ... Show more

Before the Clinton Health Care Reform initiative was ever mentioned, news media knew society
valued a better and reformed health care system. Initially much of mass news media reflected that
the American public wanted health care reform. On March 22, 1994, the Illinois
Business Review published an article called National Health Care Reform: Comparing Four
Alternative Plans . The introduction of this article had three amazing statistics from a Gallop poll in
1991 which bluntly stated that a majority of Americans wanted health care reform.
Ninety one percent of the persons polled said they believed that there was a health care crisis, and
eighty five percent said they felt that there was a need for reform (Reich 3). Approximately eighty
percent were either very or somewhat satisfied with their health insurance, but complained about
poor coverage and cost (Reich 3). For those who could not afford health care, eighty percent said
they believed that the government should pick up the tab (Reich 3). These three statistics displayed
that a majority of Americans polled valued health care reform. The prime objective of universal
health care is to insure every citizen, especially the twenty six million Americans who have no
health care insurance and who valued this initiative the most.
Because health care reform was popular as reflected in poll data, it seemed inevitable.
When the Clinton s mentioned their plan, it won much public support. This

Nelson Mandela Imperialism
Nelson Mandela was conceived on July 18, 1918, in the small town of Mvezo in South Africa. In
the wake of going to class in his local nation, he also went to College of London before coming
back to South Africa and beginning a law firm. Around this time, Mandela joined the African
National Congress. Mandela was well known and regarded everywhere throughout the world as an
image of the battle against politically sanctioned, racial segregation, and all types of prejudice. He
truly was the symbol and the saint of African freedom.
After his discharge from jail in 1990, Mandela recovered his authority part in the once banned
African National Congress and battled bravely for majority rule change in his troubled country. In

Senior project paper
I chose my Senior Project on Animation. Animation for those who don t know is making drawings
come to life in film and screen. As an Animator, I will use computers, pencils and paper among
other beings, to create movies and TV shows .
I have chosen animation as my career because I have always loved cartoons and films such as
Disney, Pixar and Dreamworks. Some of my favorite films are Disney s The Lion King , Pixar s
Toy Story and DreamWorks Sherk . In my mind animation is more of an artform than a career
The skills you would need for this career are Time management, Artistic knowledge, and Artistic

The health benefits of this career are good pay, long hours, and plenty of opportunities to work
as well as a flexible work schedule. Another benefit of being an animator is being able to work at
home, for example, if you work at home, you will have a sucnifetley lower chance of getting sick
than if you were, for instance, in an office setting the percentage of sick days will decrease
For my interviews I have asked 2 of the best of animation teachers in western P.A., ( in my
opinion ) John Kelly and Jared Taylor ( from the Toonsuim and Edinboro University
respectively). According to both Kelly And Taylor you need about 3 to 4 years of schooling in
either visual arts or animation. Kelly was an animator for Disney and now is a teacher of the
subject. As stated in a previous paragraph the pay is around 30 to $63,000 in total. My second
question I asked the two gentlemen, is if there is any math involved in the job, the answer is no.
I asked this question because having Spina Bifida, my math skills are subpar to the rest of my

Disrespectful Classroom Behavior
In my attempt to avoid misbehavior in the classroom is let the students know verbally and in
writing that disrespectful language will not be tolerated and the consequences if it happens on the
first day of class. One of the consequences is punishment, such as no free time, visit the principal s
office, after schooldetention, in school suspension and possibly suspension from the school.
Because Susan said that she did not think it was disrespectful the language she used with me, I
will remind her what was said verbally and in writing about the unacceptable behaviors the first
day of class. Also, she will not be allowed to have free time with her friends on the same day of the
incident. As Chapter 11 states, it s important for teachers to keep firm when following through with
consequences previously mentioned, (Ormrod,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

His Airness Michael Jordan
Throughout all the years I have been involved with sports, I ve learned Michael Jordan is one of
the most prolific athletes of his time. We define success as achieving wealth, respect, or fame, and
Jordan has accomplished more than most men will even attempt in their lifetime. Some try and
compare today s superstar athletes such as LeBron James, and Kobe Bryant with the great Michael
Jordan, but I am here to tell you that is impossible. Jordan changed the game and made it what it
is today. Jordan s life is filled with struggle and triumph. Despite all of the obstacles he faced, he
still became one of the best basketball players of his time.
Like most of us, Michael Jordan grew up in a normal home with normal family members. Jordan
was the fourth of five kids being raised by their mother and father, Deloris and James Jordan.
The Jordan family moved from Brooklyn, New York to North Carolina, where the young
superstar could make a name for himself. Just as Canadian recording artist Drake expresses in
his popular new single, Michael Jordan actually started from the bottom so far at the bottom that
he got cut from the high school basketball team his sophomore year for not being tall enough.
This motivated Jordan to do great things later in his life; he was quoted in his later years saying
Obstacles don t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don t turn around and give up. Figure out
how to climb it, go through it, or work around it . The very next year after a long

Punishment Within Criminal Justice, Looking At Different...
In this critical review, I will start by identifying the area of punishment within criminal justice,
looking at different methods of punishment from a historical view and contemporary view. I will be
looking at the changes of punishment in society and will be evaluating how these changes relate to
contemporary practices. When assessing these changes, social and historical aspects that are
relevant will be considered when researching and analysing information. I will look at sources such
as book chapters, journals, and articles to support my arguments and to help me gain knowledge on
the history of punishment which will allow me to review the changes of punishment in society. I
will also draw some attention to the continuities of punishment throughout history and how this is
similar in society today. In the past, punishment was carried out in a very different way compared to
how it is carried out today. Punishment in contemporary society is less gruelling and painful
compared to punishment taken place in the past. Prisonconditions were also very different, in ways
that were strict and inhumane. ...a more deterrent regime, based on low diet, harsh living conditions

criminals before attending their trial, and were also held in prisons whilst awaiting their

Research Paper On The Bauhaus Movement
The Bauhaus Movement
The first decades of the 20th century in modernism was characterised by enormous social and
political changes with a radically changing lifestyle. Technology, manufacturing, science and art
was the driving force. The Bauhaus movement was one of the most influential modern design
movements of the 20th century reaching its peak between the two world wars. It was founded in
1919 in the city of Weimar in Germany by architect Walter Gropius. Although the Bauhaus was
founded by an architect, it did not actually have architecture department during its early years.

aspects of design, and tying them all together. The word Bauhaus ... Show more content on

Gropius goal was to create a new guild of craftsmen . The Bauhaus movement created classic
pieces and inspirational work in Europe and around the world as many of these great figures had
to emigrate after the Bauhaus was forced to close in 1933 due to the political pressure from the
Nazi movement. Wassily Kandinsky taught basic design theory at the Bauhaus with association to
form and colour. Influenced by theosophy, his abstract artwork shows his use of the primary
colours red, yellow and blue and the geometrical elements such as circles, half circles, triangles,
squares and simple lines. He believed these certain colours in relationship to a certain shape
represented how the reader would feel, making them have an emotional connection.
It can be said that the Bauhaus was the first modern art school. Art schools are strongly influenced
by their teaching of design and skill. The Bauhaus curriculum model is still used in education today.
The Bauhaus curriculum combined theoretic education and practical training in the educational
workshops. It drew inspiration from the ideals of the revolutionary art movements and design
experiments of the early 20th

SAS No. 1, which established the codification of auditing
standards and procedures, was issued in November 1972 and is currently still in effect. There are
120 Auditing Standard Statements that have been issued since 1972, in which many have been
superseded by new standards. As the auditing profession strives to confirm the accuracy and
credibility of entity financial statements, these standards are required to be updated as the US
economy is constantly changing and auditors are faced with different situations on a daily basis.
Attestation services are guided by The Statements on Standards for Attestation
Engagements (SSAEs), which are issued by attestation specialist within the AICPA. The primary
reason for adopting these standards was to establish a general framework and reasonable
boundaries for attestation services. The standards provide useful and necessary guidance to
CPA s that perform attest services, and to guide designated AICPA standard setting bodies in
establishing the standards for attest services. They are basically an extension to the ten generally
accepted auditing standards to deal with appropriate reporting, adequate planning and
supervision, technical competence, independence in mental attitude, and sufficient evidence,
only with a much broader scope than the GAAS. The SSAE s were developed to be responsive to
a changing environment and the demands of

The Librarian
The librarian begins to mercilessly ride atop the man, harder, faster, groaning and gasping and
leaving little pink rivers of claw marks all over his chest. The man can t remember the last time he
came for any reason. It was making himself cum thinking about this moment, he knew, before he
met this insane woman, before he threw his life away for some jerk off fantasy.
Now he felt the rhythmic motion of her pussy wrapped tightly around his cock, the up and down,
the slippery warm movement, her breathing, and the man could only close his eyes and pray for
some escape from this place, from this moment, from her.
No, no, no, no, she gasps, you don t get away that easily, pet, she whispers, Cum for me, cum
inside me, feel my perfect pussy, remember how I taste, she says.
The man s entire body tenses up. He hates himself. He wants to scream, Fuck you, but his fear
stops him. He s too afraid of the things he saw on that first night. He s too helpless. He s her
prisoner.
Instead, he feels his cock swell with her every methodical undulation, with her every warm, tight
stroke of her pussy on his dick. He grits his teeth, he tries to imagine baseball statistics, or stock
quotes, or the last morning s headline.
His cock begins to spurt then spasm uncontrollably. The librarian smiles and bites her lip. He can
feel her pussy throbbing and squeezing his shaft rhythmically, the librarian s body tenses, her
fingernails cut deeply into the flesh of the man s chest.

Analysis Of Truman s The Truman Show
The Truman Show is centred on a man made island called SeaHaven where a man named
Truman Burbank has been televised without his knowledge since birth. The show is a 24 hour
live tv show where every aspect of Truman s life is shown. As Truman grows older he begins to
notice unsual events that leads him to believe that there is something incongruent with what
people are telling him and what he experiences in his day to day life. As Truman begins to test
the boundaries he realizes that the town seems to revolve around him and his desire to escape
comes to an all time high. Eventually Truman begins on a journey to escape his virtual reality.
Despite the boundaries that the director throws at him he eventually escapes and will try to find
his way in the real world. This movie made me sympathize for Truman being that he has no
privacy and is oblivious to his lack of freedom. This movie shows how it is possible to create an
ideal community and how New Urbanism can be created and maintained.
New Urbanism essentially promotes an inclusive community that is close in proximity, which the
ccreator of the Truman Show creates. There is many positives that comes with New Urbanism
most being that all aspects of the city would be in walking distance which results in reduced cars
and mixed housing. New Urbanism brings on increased communication and interaction between
individuals which is facilitated by a city centre. Mumford writes about how a city is a theatre of

Effects of Alcohol
There are many opinions that have been put across regarding alcohol consumption. Some are
biased while others are based on either prejudice or beliefs. However the truth is that alcohol has
its own merits and demerits. Every drinker has already at least some of the short term alcohol
effects like a hangover or a bad night s sleep. Long term effects are usually experienced when it is
quite late. Heavy drinking results to a staggering walk, indistinct words and memory lapses. Upon
drinking, one develops difficulties with their stability, judgement and harmonisation. One usually
takes a gradual reaction to stimuli, a reason why drinking poses danger to driving. This is a result

This sends a signal to the brain that triggers the secretion of hydrochloric acid which in turn sends

illnesses. Alcohol does a lot of things to our bodies that we are not wary of (Garbutt, 2012. Some
heavy drinking habits like bingeing causes the clumping together of platelets hence causing heart
disease or stroke. It may also lead to cardiomyopathy, a dangerous condition that weakens the heart
muscle and eventually failing it. Heart rhythm abnormalities like atrial and ventricular fibrillation
are also bound to develop. Addiction is also another problem that comes along with alcohol
consumption. Some people have been witnesses to have been unstable until they grabbed a cup of
gin. This is a condition that poses danger to the drinker. Such people are not able to control their
intake amount once they commence drinking. They are also bound to lose their in inappropriate
situations. According to Klatsky, one should consider age, sex, health status, and family history

Summary Of Maggie A Girl Of The Street Sexism
He Can but She Cannot: The Harmful Effects of Sexism on Women
The idea of a sexual double standard emphasizes that men have more sexual freedom than their
female counterparts. According to Professor Derek Kreager, a sexual double standard is the
belief that women and men are held to different standards of sexual conducts in contemporary
society (Kreager 1). This concept is evident not only in modern society, but in the past as well.
Stephen Crane, an American author of the late 1800s helps prove this. He was extremely thorough
in making sure he wrote truthfully to the times he lived. With that in mind, in his novella Maggie:
A Girl of the Streets there is a clear sexual double standard. There is a strong presence of a sexual
double standard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many would claim that men and women are treated exactly the same. This statement is
disproven in Maggie: a Girl of the Streets . This is obvious when Crane writes that, Pete did not
consider that he had ruined Maggie. If he had thought that her soul could never smile again, he
would have believed the mother and brother, who were pyrotechnic over the affair, to be
responsible for it (Crane 61). Pete never even considered the repercussions his actions would
have on Maggie. At first in the novella, Maggie was nervous about kissing Pete. When Pete slept
with Maggie he ruined her but he never would have considered her downfall to be his fault.
Since Pete had a higher status as a man and in general, he did not concern himself with what
would happen to Maggie. This reveals the sexual double standard because Pete did not even have
to think about his actions, while Maggie was forced to take responsibility for both of their actions.
Oakland University sociologist and anthropologist Heidi Lyons explains the overwhelming proof
that there is a sexual double standard. She reports that, Teenage boys who gain considerable sexual
experience do not run the same risk of being labeled deviant as do their female counterparts. More
specifically, young women who had a high number of sex partners were socially reprimanded
for their behaviors, and young men were rewarded. (Lyons 3). The young women in this study
are seen as socially inferior to the men and Lyons works to expose this fact. Since the men are
held on a pedestal they are not scolded or held responsible for their actions. The more confirmed
sexual experiences a woman has the lower she falls socially. The more experiences a man has the
higher he is held in esteem in today s society. This sexual double standard makes no sense at all.
The women are expected to stay

Which system do you prefer?
EOQ/ ROP system:
Advantage1) The system achieves the balance between two costs ordering cost and the carrying
cost. 2) The system keeps track of removals from inventory on a continuous basis, so the system
can provide information on the current level of inventory for each item
3) The system helps meet the anticipated customer demand.
4) The system keeps buffers between successive operations to maintain continuity of production
(reducing the variability in demand at various stages).
Disadvantage1) EOQ/ROP system is essentially a reactive approach; this approach gives only an
order quantity, it does not suggest ways to reduce the inventory.
4
2) For implementation of EOQ a perpetual inventory counting system needs to be in place, this
implies substantial investments which might not be feasible for some.
3) Even if EOQ system is in place there is necessity to physically count the inventory periodically
in order to ascertain the accuracy of the system.
4) EOQ/ ROP is a static system that is, it does not change automatically with the change in
demand. For every period a new EOQ/ ROP needs to be established.
5) It is valid for a single product and not a basket of products. (Assumption made while deriving
the EOQ/ ROP.)

Christian Worldview And The Secular Worldview Of Account
To compare the Christian worldview to the secular worldview of account, one must understand
the definition of what a worldview is and what a Christian worldview looks like as well as what
a secular worldview looks. According to Valk (2012), Worldviews are those larger pictures that
inform and in turn form our perceptions of reality. They are visions of life as well as ways of
life, are individual and personal, yet bind adherents together communally (p. 1). It is not
uncommon for individuals to have different worldviews because the meaning of the word is a set

Here the only thing that matters is a man. Within secular philosophy individuals only trust the
scientific method to know anything. So basically, if something can t be observed, tested, or

t be tested, so that means it does not exist. Secular ethics are based on what humans decide as far
as standards and values. Humans depend on science, reason, and a historical experience to figure
out what is right and what is wrong. It s tricky because standards will not be the same for
everyone because everyone has a different background and reason. There are different views within
secular science, psychology, sociology, law, politics, economics, and history which are all based on
man and mans perspective. Overall secular humanist view everything from the standpoint of what

By encouraging people to put their trust in earthly happiness, it programs them for disillusionment.

Wal-Mart’s Response to Hurricane Katrina
Wal Mart s Response to Hurricane Katrina
So far in the American history, hurricane Katrina remains to be one of the most devastating
hurricanes to have ever been witnessed. Though preparation were already in place to counter its
effects, the storm s impact turned out to be one of the most unprecedented ever seen. This is even
notable from the way government agencies reacted to this disaster. It brought out the inefficiencies
and inadequacies of the emergency units both at the federal and state level. This is because these
governments response standards to this disaster were far much below the threshold expected.
Government efforts could not match, and hence counter, the impacts of hurricane Katrina. This led

This is possible because Wal Mart is expansive and has a global influence. This helps it to have lots
of information concerning anything of importance to them and their clients. Therefore using its
emergency department, Wal Mart was able to monitor the storm as it approached the shores of the
Gulf coast using their highly computerized meteorological equipment. In addition to the storm
monitoring capabilities, this department is well equipped with emergency response facilities for
normal disasters.
Wal Mart began response to this hurricane when the meteorological equipment indicated that the
initial signs of a storm were building up to a hurricane. This was when top level management began
having special interest on the findings of the emergency operations centre whereby the then
company s business continuity director shifted his operations to the centre. This was a clear sign of
how well Wal Mart chain stores were getting prepared for this hurricane.
Wal Mart CEO, H. Lee Scott, Jr., was in the forefront into getting ready to counter the impact of
Katrina. This is proven by the aspect of him giving direct authority to junior managers to make
sound decisions on the way forward into dealing with the hurricane. This simplified decision
making chain process and thus it saw the response become much quicker. Apart from giving

Toyota Essay
(b) Company background
Toyota Motor Corporation is a Japanese multinational automotive manufacturer headquartered in
Toyota, Aichi, Japan. Toyota is known as the second largest automotive manufacturer in world,
behind German Volkswagen Group in 2016. Toyota adopted JIT in the Toyota Production System
(TPS) as a means of eliminating the wastes in all aspects of production.
(c) Implementation of JIT by the company
In 1950, Toyota Motor Corporation had a difficulty to predict the size of their warehouse in order
to store their finish products and parts. They have to use large warehouse to store the vehicles
before shipping them to customers. It resulted in expensive inventory cost and waste associated
with keeping dead stock. This becomes the main reason for Toyota to implement JIT and Toyota
Production System (TPS) in their business operation.
The Toyota Production System (TPS) was established based on the philosophy of JIT, in which each
process produces only what is required by the next process in a continuous flow. Toyota aims to
produce high quality products that fulfill the needs of every customer through the complete
elimination of waste, inconsistencies, and unreasonable requirements ... Show more content on

assembly parts for the purpose to reduce cost. They have done several researches to understand
how supermarkets are able to ensure their shelves are always stocked with the items needed by its
customers and in the required quantity, and has all of these items available for sale at any given
time. Customers are assured of a constant supply of desired products would be available whenever
wanted thus they would only select the items that they immediately required. Toyota realized there
would be less of a need to maintain high inventories if they could ensure this same supermarket
guarantee of required parts for their assembly

The Debate On Abortion And Abortion
Abortion. This word leaves most people feeling uneasy after just saying it out loud. The discussion
of abortion is continuously left open ended with millions of opinions, arguments, and questions.
Abortions occur every single day leaving potential fathers devastated or thrilled, leaving friends and
families broken and distraught or in contrast, proud. More importantly, leaving the potential mother
uncertain and even destroyed. But with abortionin mind, what is considered wrong and what is
considered right? What is moral and what is immoral? Is all faith in humanity questioned at the sole
argument of either aborting or not aborting an unborn child? Moreover, who is granted the superior
authority on deciding what is morally correct or incorrect this day and age. As I said before,
bottomless questions and vast accusations tend to be the fuel for this fire. It is as if society is
waiting for the perfect, yet, moderate argument on abortion, tying up all of the loose ends and
meeting somewhere in between what is right and what is wrong when considering abortion rights.
Is there even a common ground of understanding when debating the existence of another human?
The endless and twisted argument continues to linger on, although Judith Jarvis Thomson s
Defense of Abortion communicated insightful views which in fact influenced my very own ideas
on the argument of abortion. As I was reading Thomson s, Defense on Abortion I found myself
unsure and often questioning the side she

because after Desi s death that was when she fell apart but Gary and her kids kept her going so
when she felt chest pain they convinced her to go to the hospital and she was a survivor after

Design Patterns
Literature Review
Chapter One
Introduction
What is a Design Pattern?
A design pattern solves a problem within a given context. The solution that is offered by
implementing a pattern results in a system design structure, which balances the concerns of the
design problem in a manner most appropriate for the given context. In Understanding and Using
Patterns in Software Development , Dirk Riehle and Heinz Zullighaven offer a rather nice
definition of what a design pattern is:
A pattern is the abstraction from a concrete form which keeps recurring in specific non arbitrary
contexts.
The ability to write good patterns is very difficult. A pattern should not only convey the facts about
a system, but it should also tell a story about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The patterns described in the GoF book are illustrated in C++; a programming language that has
been declining in use over the last number of years, which limits the learning of patterns in today s
development environment where the dominant programming language taught and used, as far as
patterns are concerned is Java, although patterns can be implemented in any object orientated
programming language.
The patterns exhibited are described in very concise and restricted examples that lack a
comprehensive context in order for the reader to gain a full understanding of the use of the pattern
in question. The patterns throughout the book are also presented in isolation to each other which
hinders the illustration of pattern interaction and thus the full benefit to those wishing to learn how
to implement design patterns.
Allen Holub produced a book Holub on Patterns Learning Design Patterns by Looking at Code ,
which detailed the use of design patterns while developing a game called Game of Life. The
Game of Life is a cellular automation program, which begins with cells that are classed as either
alive or dead . The idea is then that each cell follows a set of rules to determine which whether it
can live or whether it must die .
Holubs book, published in 2004 addressed some of the shortcomings of the GoF publication, such
as the patterns were now demonstrated in Java, which has become the favoured language of the
software development industry,

Native American Beliefs In Native America And Sir Walter...
Long before the first Europeans arrived Native Americans, had their own religions, lifestyles, and
customs. While these cultures were similar in some ways to the civilized nations, they were also
very different. Upon arrival in the New World some people, such as Thomas Hariot, set out to
document these new peoples, and their ways of life and, as was important in those days, their
religion. By informing people in England of the New World, more settlers would be likely to
come. If possible travelers are informed of their destination, there will be less apprehension about
going. Thomas Hariot was one such informer. An Englishman who accompanied Sir Walter Raleigh
on his voyage to establish a colony in the New World, he kept accounts of his explorations and
later had them published in his A Briefe and True Report of the New Found Land of Virginia. His
book described the land and people of Virginia as he traveled the country. One of the tribes he
wrote about and described was known as the Algonquin. Hariot described the people of the tribe as
being [C]lothed in loose mantles made of Deere skins and aprons of the same rounde about their
middle; all els[e] naked... allowing his English readers to realize the Algonquin were slightly
unprogressive compared to themselves in terms of clothing. Yet the author does not seem to look
down upon the natives for their rather primitive way of dressing. Mr. Hariot went on to describe
their lack of advanced tools and weapons: those

Italian Food Importance
The Importance of Food in Italy Italy is a country vast in history, amazing architecture, historical
ruins, stunning scenery, fabulous food and more. Traditions rule throughout the years. One of the
traditions is the food they make and how it is passed down from generations. The relationships
Italians have with their family are very strong and it is important to them to pass down their
traditions and recipes. Food has a strong social aspect with the Italians. It is important for them to
get together to cook and share meals. In Italy, Italian food is a big part of their culture. Some four
million Italians came to America, largely from the south of Italy and the island of Sicily. People
that come to America carry along the tastes and sometimes also the seeds, recipes and ingredients of
their homes. What the world today knows as pizza is the product of a long history of changing
connections between Italy and the Americas and between both countries and the entire world. It is
a history of travel, tourism, migration, agriculture, industry, commerce and creativity in the kitchen.
(Pizza, pastaand red sauce: Italian or American). More Italians have migrated to the United States
than any other
Europeans. They had a long history of migrating to foreign countries as a way of coping with
poverty and dislocation. The earliest Italian immigrants to the United States were northern
Italians, who became prominent as fruit and food merchants in New York and winegrowers in
California.

By contrast, software defined radio technology provides an efficient and comparatively inexpensive
solution to this problem, using software upgrades. SDR defines a collection of hardware and
software technologies where some or all of the radio s operating functions are implemented through
modifiable software or firmware operating on programmable processing technologies.
1.2 A Brief History of SDR
An SDR is a radio in which the properties of carrier frequency, signal bandwidth, modulation, and
network access are defined by software. Today s modern SDR also implements any necessary
cryptography; forward error correction (FEC) coding; and source coding of voice, video, or data in
software as well.
The roots of SDR design go back to 1987, when Air Force Rome Labs (AFRL) funded the
development of a programmable modem as an evolutionary step beyond the architecture of the
integrated communications, navigation, and identification architecture (ICNIA).
Today s SDR, in contrast, is a general purpose device in which the same radio tuner and processors
are used to implement many waveforms at many frequencies. The advantage of this approach is that
the equipment is more versatile and cost effective.

Whether it was the lush forests that stretched for miles with leaves that changed to look much
like fire or the rivers full of rushing water and the many living creatures who called it home, I
loved it all. As a child, I collected all sorts of things that i found on my treks through the forests
and fields near my home in Vermont. Such things included feathers dropped by passing birds,
shiny pebbles I found in a nearby stream, leaves that had fallen from the highest trees, and even a
few curious shells that had somehow found themselves lodged in the mud of a river. As I got
older, my love for nature did not diminish, but instead flourished like a especially beautiful Red
Clover in the sweet breeze of Spring. My mother and father only encouraged me to do what I
believe was the right path for me. Of course the war had put a damper on how much I could get
away with. Not long after I turned 7 years old was my father drafted so that he could fight to
protect our country. He had waited to be drafted because he had wanted to spend as much time as
possible with his family before having to go through the hard trials of war. My mother went on to

Charles was on his way back from the pub. Charles, an average looking eighteen year old with
brown eyes, bright blue eyes, and a slender build, was thinking about billy. The last time he had
heard from Billy was about a year ago and he was looking for a place to stay in Bath. Charles
asked around but nobody had seen him. It was beginning to get dark and Charles needed a place
to stay for the night. Flaming red chrysanthemums caught his eye. He peered through the window
and saw the bright, burning fire, a sleeping dog, it all seemed so comforting. He thought it

way he was going. The more he thought he realized Billy never checked out. It might have been
a mistake but, the landlady was very persistent about the guest book. Charles was so lost in
thought he found himself on the fourth floor. He saw one of the doors cracked open so he
decided to peek in. He saw Billy sitting in a chair reading a book! Billy! He said as he ran up to
him. The closer her got he realized something was very wrong. Billy was not breathing. When
Charles touched him he felt cold, still, and lifeless. Terror ran through Charles blood but he was
smart. He knew if he panicked he would die too. Charles put on his most serious face as his heart
raced and headed downstairs to have tea with the deranged landlady. She was sitting on the couch
and there was a tea tray on the table in front of her. She handed him a teacup and took a sip from
her own. He sat by the fire trying to figure out what to do. He held the tea cup up to his mouth
and and just before taking a dip he smelt bitter almonds. Charles knew cyanide had a smell and
taste of bitter almonds. He set his tea down next to hers.
I m going to wait for it to cool down a bit he said.

The Cherry Orchard
The Cherry Orchard: Critical Analysis The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov is about a Russian
family that is unable to prevent its beloved estate from being sold in an auction due to financial
problems. The play has been dubbed a tragedy by many of its latter producers. However, Chekhov
labeled his play a farce, or more of a comedy. Although this play has a very tragic backdrop of
Russia #8217;s casualty ridden involvement in both World Wars and the Communist Revolution, the
characters and their situations suggest a light hearted tone, even though they struggle against the
upcoming loss of the orchard. Apathy and passivity plague the characters and contribute often to
the comic side of things. Sometimes, however, the passivity... Show more content on

Another example of a character #8217;s inability to suppress foolishness is Yepikhodov #8217;s
role of the #8220;unfortunate clod #8221; (Galens 21 39). He continues to stumble over furniture
in each of his appearances. He is immediately dubbed #8220;Twenty two Calamities. #8221;
Gayev #8217;s actions also provoke comedy in The Cherry Orchard. He is addicted to fruit candy
and spends every cent he has on feeding his addiction. Another of his actions is his incisive
billiard shot calls. Sparatically in the conversation or in mid sentence he will call a shot as if he
has a cue in his hand at a pool hall. John Fiero writes in his critical analysis of The Cherry
Orchard: Madame Ranevsky is a foolish woman only too anxious to return to a worthless young
lover; Gayev is an amiable ass who talks too much; Anya is a goose and her Trofimov a solemn
windbag; Lopakhin, the practical self made man, is confused and unhappy; Epihodov a clumsy
idiot; Dunyasha a foolish girl; Yasha an insufferable jumped up lad; and Firs far gone in senility
(Corbin, John 33 37). This quote shows the comic elements of the character #8217;s personalities
and how they are put to work in the play. Apathy and passivity contrast the comic side of the
characters by roping the tragedy back into focus. Mrs. Ranevsky is the biggest example of these
qualities. She states, #8220;If only this heavy load could be lifted from my heart; if only I could

The early 2000s recession was a decline in economic activity which mainly occurred in developed

Melancholia In Orestes Research Paper
Ancient Greece, depression was referred to as melancholia. Melancholia was portrayed in
Orestes, ______. In a vase from 400 BC, Orestes is drawn having a ceremony to get rid of
vengeful spirits that would not leave him alone since his mother was killed. In the book Orestes
by Euripides, Orestes is depicted as a helpless, exhausted and motivationless person who barely
ever wanted to eat but was constantly crying and sleeping. Jason the Argonaut is another Greek
work that has to do with melancholia. Jason is described as a hero who is always in action
trying to resolve problems. However, he becomes a helpless and bad tempered person when his
ship is wrecked on the coast of Libya. In the 4th century BC however, melancholia began to be
viewed as an illness in Greek scientific work. For example, the physician Hippocrates wrote that
melancholia was a depressive temperament that resulted when bodily humors or fluids were not
balanced. According to Hippocrates, the body was composed of blood, yellow bile, black bile,
and phlegm. When someone became ill, it was thought that there was an excess amount of a

history, causes and treatments of melancholia, while also making sure it was seen as a blessing.
Soon, melancholia was viewed as a fashionable trend in the culture. Plays, such as Shakespeare s
Hamlet, were now including characters that matched the description of a depressed

Analysis Of The Movie Return Streak And Winning A...
Manassas is an inner city high school in North Memphis Tennessee with a poorly funned football
program that holds a 110 year losing streak. Each individual athlete faces internal and external
challenges of growing up in a poor and dangerous neighborhood with little or no parental guidance
at all. Coach Bill Courtney devotes the majority of his time to Manassas s football program and
also steps in as a father figure to many of these boys and unites the team. In return, this causes the
team to perform better on the field, thus, breaking Manassas s losing streak and winning a playoff
game. In this documentary there was a mental skill that stood out the most, in particular, group
dynamics/ cohesion. Throughout the team s football season coach Courtney helps the boys feel
closer with their fellow teammates, thus, resulting in each individual to look out for one another.
With that said, in the movie the team worked together to achieve a common goal which was to win
a playoff game while also working on individual interpersonal relationships with other teammates.
With that in mind, different elements of task and social cohesion are emphasized in this
documentary. The theoretical development of group dynamics/ cohesion was exhibited through
O.C. Brown. To illustrate, in the beginning of the film O.C. Brown was a short tempered kid who
only looked out for himself, however, throughout this documentary O.C. Brown begins to improve
on his cohesion with the team and also reveals

Definition Of A Comedy
Comedy to me is something that you see or hear that makes people laugh. What I find funny are
impersonations, things that are expected or sarcastic jokes. Impersonations can mean the way
someone talks, walks or acts. I personally find some accents to be hilarious and if someone
imitates the accent, it will just crack me up., If its someone famous that everyone knows and if that
person talks funny or walks funny, then it will cause other people to laugh because they know its
true. An expected jokeis when, someone tells a joke but you already know how its going to end
so you start laughing before the joker finishes the joke. Sarcasm is probably the best jokes to me.

I already know because I can relate to that. A person who cannot relate to this would probably
not find it funny because they don t realize what so funny about it. Even if the person could
relate, they may think that the joke is disrespectful especially if they were the subject being joked
about. In this case it would be the mothers. The thing I love about my two favorite comedians is
the way the tell the joke. They don t just tell jokes, they put on a whole show by the way they talk,
act and laugh.

Culture
I think culture, simply is what remains after the various historical cycles. Through each of the
development cycle, people interact with others and developing a new culture. Culture is an
objective phenomenon, an integration of all aspects of life. Even the smallest aspects of life
have a culture. It was suggested that the ongoing world phenomenon of cultural invasion is the
result of aggression by firearm and economic. I disagree with that theory because to me, culture
is peace, culture is not aggression. The integration of cultural aspects is the process of people
finding a common language for a common life. The concept of cultural invasion is the notion of
the community who have experienced only formed in relations, development and the experience
of war, especially the Cold War. In the Western culture homes of Americans, British, French we
will see souvenirs from the orient. Sometimes in Western societies people tend to see the
existence of a few souvenirs and ornaments from the East as a sign of elite or civilized. That is

Essay on Analysis of Birches by Robert Frost
In the poem Birches by Robert Frost, Frost portrays the images of a child growing to adulthood
through the symbolism of aging birch trees. Through these images readers are able to see the
reality of the real world compared to there carefree childhood. The image of life through
tribulation is the main focal point of the poem and the second point of the poem is if one could
revert back to the simpler times of childhood. The language of the poem is entirely arranged
through images, although it contains some diction it lacks sound devices, metaphors, and similes
compared to other published works by Frost. The first half of the poems images are of life, coming
of age, and death.

While the first half of the poem deals with the coming of age the second half of the poem deals
with childhood and wanting to stay young for as long as possible. The first image of childhood by
Frost is when Truth broke in With all her matter of fact about the ice storm, I should prefer to have

because they will always return to their original shape and never break by the burden of a load.
This is further expressed By riding them down over and over again Until he took the stiffness
out of them. Once the trees lose their stiffness the boy can play on them repeatedly without
having to worry about them breaking therefore if they never shatter or falling then youthfulness
will always be his. Finally Frost talks about how he would like to go back to being a boy swinging

Catching is an essential skill in football so in order to master the skill an individual must first learn
how to catch and throw. Learning how to perform the skill at a faster rate is the next step after

practicing with the speed of the throw. When you have learned the skill and have practiced to
perform it well then you practice to perform it consistently by being fatigued, under stress, or
under pressure. Overall practicing a skill takes a tremendous amount of time and effort that
separates the level between all the competitors in a sport. Skills don t necessarily have to be
physical they can be related to mental processes too. For example, in chess where one must try
and predict and read their opponents next possible move, it requires the use of the mental state
to be able to counter the opponent s moves. Every sport whether physical or mental contains a
multitude of skills that must be mastered by the player. This is what makes every sport
extremely tough to compete in due to the tremendous amount of practice that must be done to
be great at every possible skill. A player s weaknesses lie where skills are either lacking or
underdeveloped such as in basketball where there may be a player that is great at passing, but has
mediocre scoring skills. Skills are essential in order to play any sport since they apply to each
different ability that is performed in the sport. Therefore, applying those skills to something in a
competitive manner makes a

Virtuality as Representation
The most important error [generally committed] is the reduction of reality to actuality and virtuality
to possibility: as if the actual and the virtual were the given and the pre given, respectively (Doel
Clarke, 1999) From since the 1970s computers have opened new ways of virtualization where the
human brain is assisted in forecasting extremely complicated, and even inherently complex
systems. At the beginning of the 1990s the commercialization of the internet as an international
network determined the popularization and incorporation of virtuality into every aspect of modern
life, creating a pervasive cyberspace. This paper presents a collection of meanings of the term
virtuality and develops, though the implications in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If a virtualization is destined to observation it is often because the observer, or the researcher,
cannot easily expect the evolution of a system [15]: on his behalf the computer takes into account
all the variables those that will determine the evolution of the virtual system and produces results
in terms of forecasts or data synthesis. It is important to note that the results are only relevant as
far as the virtualization is good: in other words, the premises that constitute the basis for the
virtualization must be good enough to provide knowledge applicable in the real world. This
characteristic is shared by every kind of representation and it s explicit whenever a limit of validity
is reached such as newtonian physics compared to general relativity but for virtualization it s
somewhat easier to forget that the predictions calculated by the computer do not reflect reality but,
instead, depend on the programmers and designers that developed the virtuality. Virtuality as a kind
of representation can have very specific and mundane purposes: in every day life we have the
example of weather forecasting, which use virtualization of winds and pressure to determine the
outcome of cloud movements and the general state of the atmosphere. Virtualizations can also be
multidimensional and based on partly arbitrary hypotesis, such as the World3 model a computer
simulation of interactions between population, industrial growth, food production and limits

Collinsville Case Study Essay
Collinsville case study
1. Which firms are the identical twins of the Collinsville investment? Using the ОІ s for those assets
and the methodology learned in this course, determines the appropriate discount rate for the
Collinsville investment.
We are interested in obtaining the asset beta for Collinsville investment. Here from the reading
material, we find there were altogether 6 chemical companies that produce sodium chlorates. They
are Hooker, Pennwalt, American, Kerr McGee, Brunswick and Southern. However, since we are
evaluating the addition of a sodium chlorate plant, the two firms (Brunswick and Southern) who
specialize in producing sodium chlorate are likely the best twins . To determine the asset betas of
each company, we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here, in the given pro forma in Exhibit 8, the cost of salt and other in 1984 was 1836 while that in
1983 is 1956. Thus, the growth rate is (1956 1836)/1836=6.6%.
Thirdly, since the total fixed costs account for 14.1% of its sales in the year of 1983 and 1984,
we assume the total fixed costs will remain at this level until 1989. Similarly, the account
receivable, account payable, and inventories stays at 10%, 5.5% and 4.5% of sales respectively.
For the depreciation part, we adopted the straight line method. Here since the depreciation of year
1984 was $1270, we just assumed all the depreciation amount to be equal to $1270 till the year
1989. With all of these previous assumptions, we obtain the complete pro forma financial statement
and the cash flow table for the Collinsville Plant.
Together with the discount rate we calculated from the first part, we get the NPV of this project is
$8737.6. Under this valuation, the $12M offer is high and that Dixon should not make the
investment without the laminate technology.
3.
Calculate the incremental NPV from adding the laminate technology to the Collinsville plant. What
is the NPV of the Collinsville plant with the laminate technology?
When we consider the laminate technology, we have to add $2.25M to the CAPX for first year
and add $225,000 to depreciation per annum from the second year to the last year. Moreover, we
assume the

Essay about The Collected Poems of WB Yeats
Yeats, B. William. The Collected Poems of WB Yeats. New York: Macmillan, 1996. 318 The
importance of this book is that it contains some of the works of poetry which were carried out by
William Yeats. Arguably, the most salient feature in the book is the attempt at portraying the shift
that characterized Yeats in his work, so that his works are arranged almost chronologically to
underscore this standpoint. Works that depict him as a bard of the Celtic Twilight, reviving
Rosicrucian symbols and legends are the most frontal. These are followed up by works which
show the shift away from plush romanticism. The same are exhibited by the heavy presence of
incantatory rhythms such as I will arise and go... and go to Innisfree . The same is seen... Show

New York: WW Norton and Company, 1975. This poem was published in 1927 and comes out
as a form of meditation. The poem is rich in its scope as it covers sundry topics ranging from
children, to human behavior, life in the 20th century, the philosophy on life and life after death,
among others. This poem is an eight lined stanza which is heavily laden with rhymes and the use
of prosaic language. The poem has been written within the context of a visitor who has walked
into a classroom under the guidance of a kind elderly nun. The importance of this poem to this
reading is that in it, the poet addresses the dynamism that has shaped and continues to shape the
civil society, progress and modernity, as opposed to the status quo ante which predated the Civil
War or the Anglo Irish War. The importance of this poem to this reading is also seen in the fact
that it betrays the political ideals that Yeats had: the poem implicates the speaker as being a
senator. It is in after 1924 that Yeats served as a senator. This makes the poem sound like a poem
which was penned down after the civil war, given that it is written from the standpoint of a more
peaceful and politically stable Ireland. Thus, the poem is also instrumental as it lets the reader in
into Yeats political orientation and leanings. Thus, the many qualities Yeats had and the many
fields he operated in, in terms of career are well confirmed by this poem. The

  • 2. Elvis Presley Influence Rock and roll music was really started by this one quote: I don t sound like nobody (Marsh). This quote was said by Elvis when he first met Sun founder Sam Phillips, during a recording session that Elvis was making for his mother s birthday. Phillips liked Elvis voice and singing style so much that he thought Elvis was a black man! The public would also have this theory about him until they actually saw him. Of course, when Elvis Presley walked into Sun Studios in Memphis, Tennessee, even he could not predict that he was about to change the course of music history forever. Elvis Presley is the true definition of a rock star. He has basically had music all around him his entire life. From first hearing the depressing bluesfrom the Mississippi... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Presley was also a terrific dancer, and broke the rules in traditional showmanship, which often put him in the middle of controversy. Presley has already appeared six times on national television, but it is his appearance on The Milton Berle Show on June 5, 1956, that triggers the first controversy of his career. Presley sings his latest single, Hound Dog, with all the pelvis shaking intensity his fans scream for (Marsh). Elvis chose to dance in this manner to express himself, and did not see any issues surrounding it. He did what he felt like doing, and would inspire artists such as James Brown and Jim Morrison of The Doors to have a breathtaking stage presence. For this reason, several religious groups were outraged at Elvis chosen form of expression, and started protesting the young singer. Television critics across the country slam the performance for its appalling lack of musicality, for its vulgarity and animalism. The Catholic Church takes up the criticism in its weekly organ in a piece headlined Beware Elvis Presley. Concerns about juvenile delinquency and the changing moral values of the young find a new target in the popular singer (Marsh). The churches were particularly angered at Presley s dancing, and rallied against him, much to the chagrin of the teenage fans. In like manner, newspapers would express public outcries of why Elvis music should be banned from their towns, leading to a short decline in Elvis record sales. With these two characteristics of performing, Elvis would go on to inspire countless musicians, all over the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mass Media s Undermining of Societal Values During Health Care Reform There is little doubt that three years ago the American people wanted health care reform. News media saw the controversy over health care reform as a strong issue to discuss in their productions, and most fulfilled their responsibility as an information medium: to provide equal opportunity for both sides of this debate to reveal the benefits of their plans and the drawbacks of their opponents . However, when interest groups became involved in this dispute, advertising their own beliefs against the Clinton Health Care Reform Plan, they manipulated the public by using scare tactics. News media incorporated these ads in their coverage of the benefits and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Page 2 Before the Clinton Health Care Reform initiative was ever mentioned, news media knew society valued a better and reformed health care system. Initially much of mass news media reflected that the American public wanted health care reform. On March 22, 1994, the Illinois Business Review published an article called National Health Care Reform: Comparing Four Alternative Plans . The introduction of this article had three amazing statistics from a Gallop poll in 1991 which bluntly stated that a majority of Americans wanted health care reform. Ninety one percent of the persons polled said they believed that there was a health care crisis, and eighty five percent said they felt that there was a need for reform (Reich 3). Approximately eighty percent were either very or somewhat satisfied with their health insurance, but complained about poor coverage and cost (Reich 3). For those who could not afford health care, eighty percent said they believed that the government should pick up the tab (Reich 3). These three statistics displayed that a majority of Americans polled valued health care reform. The prime objective of universal health care is to insure every citizen, especially the twenty six million Americans who have no health care insurance and who valued this initiative the most. Because health care reform was popular as reflected in poll data, it seemed inevitable. When the Clinton s mentioned their plan, it won much public support. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We define success as achieving wealth, respect, or fame, and Jordan has accomplished more than most men will even attempt in their lifetime. Some try and compare today s superstar athletes such as LeBron James, and Kobe Bryant with the great Michael Jordan, but I am here to tell you that is impossible. Jordan changed the game and made it what it is today. Jordan s life is filled with struggle and triumph. Despite all of the obstacles he faced, he still became one of the best basketball players of his time. Like most of us, Michael Jordan grew up in a normal home with normal family members. Jordan was the fourth of five kids being raised by their mother and father, Deloris and James Jordan. The Jordan family moved from Brooklyn, New York to North Carolina, where the young superstar could make a name for himself. Just as Canadian recording artist Drake expresses in his popular new single, Michael Jordan actually started from the bottom so far at the bottom that he got cut from the high school basketball team his sophomore year for not being tall enough. This motivated Jordan to do great things later in his life; he was quoted in his later years saying Obstacles don t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don t turn around and give up. When assessing these changes, social and historical aspects that are relevant will be considered when researching and analysing information. I will look at sources such as book chapters, journals, and articles to support my arguments and to help me gain knowledge on the history of punishment which will allow me to review the changes of punishment in society. I will also draw some attention to the continuities of punishment throughout history and how this is similar in society today. As the auditing profession strives to confirm the accuracy and credibility of entity financial statements, these standards are required to be updated as the US economy is constantly changing and auditors are faced with different situations on a daily basis. Attestation services are guided by The Statements on Standards for Attestation Engagements (SSAEs), which are issued by attestation specialist within the AICPA. The standards provide useful and necessary guidance to CPA s that perform attest services, and to guide designated AICPA standard setting bodies in establishing the standards for attest services. This movie made me sympathize for Truman being that he has no privacy and is oblivious to his lack of freedom. This movie shows how it is possible to create an ideal community and how New Urbanism can be created and maintained. New Urbanism essentially promotes an inclusive community that is close in proximity, which the ccreator of the Truman Show creates. There is many positives that comes with New Urbanism most being that all aspects of the city would be in walking distance which results in reduced cars and mixed housing. • 16. Summary Of Maggie A Girl Of The Street Sexism He Can but She Cannot: The Harmful Effects of Sexism on Women The idea of a sexual double standard emphasizes that men have more sexual freedom than their female counterparts. According to Professor Derek Kreager, a sexual double standard is the belief that women and men are held to different standards of sexual conducts in contemporary society (Kreager 1). This concept is evident not only in modern society, but in the past as well. Stephen Crane, an American author of the late 1800s helps prove this. He was extremely thorough in making sure he wrote truthfully to the times he lived. With that in mind, in his novella Maggie: A Girl of the Streets there is a clear sexual double standard. There is a strong presence of a sexual double standard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many would claim that men and women are treated exactly the same. This statement is disproven in Maggie: a Girl of the Streets . This is obvious when Crane writes that, Pete did not consider that he had ruined Maggie. If he had thought that her soul could never smile again, he would have believed the mother and brother, who were pyrotechnic over the affair, to be responsible for it (Crane 61). Pete never even considered the repercussions his actions would have on Maggie. At first in the novella, Maggie was nervous about kissing Pete. When Pete slept with Maggie he ruined her but he never would have considered her downfall to be his fault. Since Pete had a higher status as a man and in general, he did not concern himself with what would happen to Maggie. This reveals the sexual double standard because Pete did not even have to think about his actions, while Maggie was forced to take responsibility for both of their actions. Oakland University sociologist and anthropologist Heidi Lyons explains the overwhelming proof that there is a sexual double standard. She reports that, Teenage boys who gain considerable sexual experience do not run the same risk of being labeled deviant as do their female counterparts. More specifically, young women who had a high number of sex partners were socially reprimanded for their behaviors, and young men were rewarded. (Lyons 3). The young women in this study are seen as socially inferior to the men and Lyons works to expose this fact. Since the men are held on a pedestal they are not scolded or held responsible for their actions. The more confirmed sexual experiences a woman has the lower she falls socially. The more experiences a man has the higher he is held in esteem in today s society. This sexual double standard makes no sense at all. The women are expected to stay ... Toyota is known as the second largest automotive manufacturer in world, behind German Volkswagen Group in 2016. Toyota adopted JIT in the Toyota Production System (TPS) as a means of eliminating the wastes in all aspects of production. (c) Implementation of JIT by the company In 1950, Toyota Motor Corporation had a difficulty to predict the size of their warehouse in order to store their finish products and parts. They have to use large warehouse to store the vehicles before shipping them to customers. It resulted in expensive inventory cost and waste associated with keeping dead stock. This becomes the main reason for Toyota to implement JIT and Toyota Production System (TPS) in their business operation. The Toyota Production System (TPS) was established based on the philosophy of JIT, in which each process produces only what is required by the next process in a continuous flow. Toyota aims to produce high quality products that fulfill the needs of every customer through the complete elimination of waste, inconsistencies, and unreasonable requirements ... • 23. The Debate On Abortion And Abortion Abortion. This word leaves most people feeling uneasy after just saying it out loud. The discussion of abortion is continuously left open ended with millions of opinions, arguments, and questions. Abortions occur every single day leaving potential fathers devastated or thrilled, leaving friends and families broken and distraught or in contrast, proud. More importantly, leaving the potential mother uncertain and even destroyed. But with abortionin mind, what is considered wrong and what is considered right? What is moral and what is immoral? Is all faith in humanity questioned at the sole argument of either aborting or not aborting an unborn child? Moreover, who is granted the superior authority on deciding what is morally correct or incorrect this day and age. As I said before, bottomless questions and vast accusations tend to be the fuel for this fire. It is as if society is waiting for the perfect, yet, moderate argument on abortion, tying up all of the loose ends and meeting somewhere in between what is right and what is wrong when considering abortion rights. Is there even a common ground of understanding when debating the existence of another human? The endless and twisted argument continues to linger on, although Judith Jarvis Thomson s Defense of Abortion communicated insightful views which in fact influenced my very own ideas on the argument of abortion. As I was reading Thomson s, Defense on Abortion I found myself unsure and often questioning the side she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The solution that is offered by implementing a pattern results in a system design structure, which balances the concerns of the design problem in a manner most appropriate for the given context. In Understanding and Using Patterns in Software Development , Dirk Riehle and Heinz Zullighaven offer a rather nice definition of what a design pattern is: A pattern is the abstraction from a concrete form which keeps recurring in specific non arbitrary contexts. The ability to write good patterns is very difficult. A pattern should not only convey the facts about a system, but it should also tell a story about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The patterns described in the GoF book are illustrated in C++; a programming language that has been declining in use over the last number of years, which limits the learning of patterns in today s development environment where the dominant programming language taught and used, as far as patterns are concerned is Java, although patterns can be implemented in any object orientated programming language. The patterns exhibited are described in very concise and restricted examples that lack a comprehensive context in order for the reader to gain a full understanding of the use of the pattern in question. The patterns throughout the book are also presented in isolation to each other which hinders the illustration of pattern interaction and thus the full benefit to those wishing to learn how to implement design patterns. Allen Holub produced a book Holub on Patterns Learning Design Patterns by Looking at Code , which detailed the use of design patterns while developing a game called Game of Life. The Game of Life is a cellular automation program, which begins with cells that are classed as either alive or dead . The idea is then that each cell follows a set of rules to determine which whether it can live or whether it must die . Holubs book, published in 2004 addressed some of the shortcomings of the GoF publication, such as the patterns were now demonstrated in Java, which has become the favoured language of the software development industry, ... • 26. Native American Beliefs In Native America And Sir Walter... Long before the first Europeans arrived Native Americans, had their own religions, lifestyles, and customs. While these cultures were similar in some ways to the civilized nations, they were also very different. Upon arrival in the New World some people, such as Thomas Hariot, set out to document these new peoples, and their ways of life and, as was important in those days, their religion. By informing people in England of the New World, more settlers would be likely to come. If possible travelers are informed of their destination, there will be less apprehension about going. Thomas Hariot was one such informer. An Englishman who accompanied Sir Walter Raleigh on his voyage to establish a colony in the New World, he kept accounts of his explorations and later had them published in his A Briefe and True Report of the New Found Land of Virginia. His book described the land and people of Virginia as he traveled the country. One of the tribes he wrote about and described was known as the Algonquin. Hariot described the people of the tribe as being [C]lothed in loose mantles made of Deere skins and aprons of the same rounde about their middle; all els[e] naked... allowing his English readers to realize the Algonquin were slightly unprogressive compared to themselves in terms of clothing. Yet the author does not seem to look down upon the natives for their rather primitive way of dressing. Mr. Hariot went on to describe their lack of advanced tools and weapons: those ... Whether it was the lush forests that stretched for miles with leaves that changed to look much like fire or the rivers full of rushing water and the many living creatures who called it home, I loved it all. As a child, I collected all sorts of things that i found on my treks through the forests and fields near my home in Vermont. Such things included feathers dropped by passing birds, shiny pebbles I found in a nearby stream, leaves that had fallen from the highest trees, and even a few curious shells that had somehow found themselves lodged in the mud of a river. As I got older, my love for nature did not diminish, but instead flourished like a especially beautiful Red Clover in the sweet breeze of Spring. My mother and father only encouraged me to do what I believe was the right path for me. Of course the war had put a damper on how much I could get away with. Although this play has a very tragic backdrop of Russia #8217;s casualty ridden involvement in both World Wars and the Communist Revolution, the characters and their situations suggest a light hearted tone, even though they struggle against the upcoming loss of the orchard. He continues to stumble over furniture in each of his appearances. He is immediately dubbed #8220;Twenty two Calamities. #8221; Gayev #8217;s actions also provoke comedy in The Cherry Orchard. He is addicted to fruit candy and spends every cent he has on feeding his addiction. Another of his actions is his incisive billiard shot calls. Sparatically in the conversation or in mid sentence he will call a shot as if he has a cue in his hand at a pool hall. John Fiero writes in his critical analysis of The Cherry Orchard: Madame Ranevsky is a foolish woman only too anxious to return to a worthless young lover; Gayev is an amiable ass who talks too much; Anya is a goose and her Trofimov a solemn windbag; Lopakhin, the practical self made man, is confused and unhappy; Epihodov a clumsy idiot; Dunyasha a foolish girl; Yasha an insufferable jumped up lad; and Firs far gone in senility (Corbin, John 33 37). This quote shows the comic elements of the character #8217;s personalities and how they are put to work in the play. Apathy and passivity contrast the comic side of the characters by roping the tragedy back into focus. Mrs. Ranevsky is the biggest example of these qualities. In a vase from 400 BC, Orestes is drawn having a ceremony to get rid of vengeful spirits that would not leave him alone since his mother was killed. In the book Orestes by Euripides, Orestes is depicted as a helpless, exhausted and motivationless person who barely ever wanted to eat but was constantly crying and sleeping. Communication And Conflict Resolution For Criminal Justice Brandman University Communication and Conflict Resolution for Criminal Justice CJCU 432 RESEARCH EXERCISE 2 CULTURE Professor Peter Jaske November 29, 2015 Phuong Le Culture I think culture, simply is what remains after the various historical cycles. Through each of the development cycle, people interact with others and developing a new culture. Culture is an objective phenomenon, an integration of all aspects of life. Even the smallest aspects of life have a culture. It was suggested that the ongoing world phenomenon of cultural invasion is the result of aggression by firearm and economic. I disagree with that theory because to me, culture is peace, culture is not aggression. The integration of cultural aspects is the process of people finding a common language for a common life. The concept of cultural invasion is the notion of the community who have experienced only formed in relations, development and the experience of war, especially the Cold War. When you have learned the skill and have practiced to perform it well then you practice to perform it consistently by being fatigued, under stress, or under pressure. Overall practicing a skill takes a tremendous amount of time and effort that separates the level between all the competitors in a sport. At the beginning of the 1990s the commercialization of the internet as an international network determined the popularization and incorporation of virtuality into every aspect of modern life, creating a pervasive cyberspace. This paper presents a collection of meanings of the term virtuality and develops, though the implications in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If a virtualization is destined to observation it is often because the observer, or the researcher, cannot easily expect the evolution of a system [15]: on his behalf the computer takes into account all the variables those that will determine the evolution of the virtual system and produces results in terms of forecasts or data synthesis. It is important to note that the results are only relevant as far as the virtualization is good: in other words, the premises that constitute the basis for the virtualization must be good enough to provide knowledge applicable in the real world. This characteristic is shared by every kind of representation and it s explicit whenever a limit of validity is reached such as newtonian physics compared to general relativity but for virtualization it s somewhat easier to forget that the predictions calculated by the computer do not reflect reality but, instead, depend on the programmers and designers that developed the virtuality. Virtuality as a kind of representation can have very specific and mundane purposes: in every day life we have the example of weather forecasting, which use virtualization of winds and pressure to determine the outcome of cloud movements and the general state of the atmosphere. Virtualizations can also be multidimensional and based on partly arbitrary hypotesis, such as the World3 model a computer simulation of interactions between population, industrial growth, food production and limits ... • 43. Collinsville Case Study Essay Collinsville case study 1. Which firms are the identical twins of the Collinsville investment? Using the ОІ s for those assets and the methodology learned in this course, determines the appropriate discount rate for the Collinsville investment. We are interested in obtaining the asset beta for Collinsville investment. Here from the reading material, we find there were altogether 6 chemical companies that produce sodium chlorates. They are Hooker, Pennwalt, American, Kerr McGee, Brunswick and Southern. However, since we are evaluating the addition of a sodium chlorate plant, the two firms (Brunswick and Southern) who specialize in producing sodium chlorate are likely the best twins . To determine the asset betas of each company, we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Here, in the given pro forma in Exhibit 8, the cost of salt and other in 1984 was 1836 while that in 1983 is 1956. Thus, the growth rate is (1956 1836)/1836=6.6%. Thirdly, since the total fixed costs account for 14.1% of its sales in the year of 1983 and 1984, we assume the total fixed costs will remain at this level until 1989. Similarly, the account receivable, account payable, and inventories stays at 10%, 5.5% and 4.5% of sales respectively. For the depreciation part, we adopted the straight line method. Here since the depreciation of year 1984 was $1270, we just assumed all the depreciation amount to be equal to $1270 till the year 1989. With all of these previous assumptions, we obtain the complete pro forma financial statement and the cash flow table for the Collinsville Plant. Together with the discount rate we calculated from the first part, we get the NPV of this project is $8737.6. Under this valuation, the $12M offer is high and that Dixon should not make the investment without the laminate technology. 3. Calculate the incremental NPV from adding the laminate technology to the Collinsville plant. What is the NPV of the Collinsville plant with the laminate technology? When we consider the laminate technology, we have to add $2.25M to the CAPX for first year and add $225,000 to depreciation per annum from the second year to the last year. Moreover, we assume the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Essay about The Collected Poems of WB Yeats Yeats, B. William. The Collected Poems of WB Yeats. New York: Macmillan, 1996. 318 The importance of this book is that it contains some of the works of poetry which were carried out by William Yeats. Arguably, the most salient feature in the book is the attempt at portraying the shift that characterized Yeats in his work, so that his works are arranged almost chronologically to underscore this standpoint. Works that depict him as a bard of the Celtic Twilight, reviving Rosicrucian symbols and legends are the most frontal. These are followed up by works which show the shift away from plush romanticism. The same are exhibited by the heavy presence of incantatory rhythms such as I will arise and go... and go to Innisfree . The same is seen... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... New York: WW Norton and Company, 1975. This poem was published in 1927 and comes out as a form of meditation. The poem is rich in its scope as it covers sundry topics ranging from children, to human behavior, life in the 20th century, the philosophy on life and life after death, among others. This poem is an eight lined stanza which is heavily laden with rhymes and the use of prosaic language. The poem has been written within the context of a visitor who has walked into a classroom under the guidance of a kind elderly nun. The importance of this poem to this reading is that in it, the poet addresses the dynamism that has shaped and continues to shape the civil society, progress and modernity, as opposed to the status quo ante which predated the Civil War or the Anglo Irish War. The importance of this poem to this reading is also seen in the fact that it betrays the political ideals that Yeats had: the poem implicates the speaker as being a senator. It is in after 1924 that Yeats served as a senator. This makes the poem sound like a poem which was penned down after the civil war, given that it is written from the standpoint of a more peaceful and politically stable Ireland. Thus, the poem is also instrumental as it lets the reader in into Yeats political orientation and leanings. Thus, the many qualities Yeats had and the many fields he operated in, in terms of career are well confirmed by this poem. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
