Tituba s Guilt In The Crucible By Arthur Miller
In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, Tituba was a very repressed woman. Due to this repression,
when Tituba had the chance to air out her grievances, she did. She was like a dog let of her
leash. However, her confession started an avalanche of false, mean spirited accusations from the
other girls present. Though Tituba was pushed to confess, the onset of the Salem Witch Trials
was completely her fault. When it came to voodoo, Tituba was like the mother duck. Abigail and
the others all toddled after her like ducklings, asking her to conjure and work her voodoo magic.
Due to this, Tituba had planted the seed that would blossom into the Salem Witch Trials. Arthur
Miller wrote, You beg me to conjure Abby! She beg me make charm (Miller). If she hadn t... Show

Like a dog eager to please her master, she eventually broke under the beatings, confessing to a
crime she didn t commit. Even though some might say she wasn t completely at fault since she
would ve been hanged for not confessing, her false confession was the straw that broke the
camel s back. Tituba had sobbed out, Oh, how many times he bid me kill you, mister Parris
(Miller)! Her own repressed bitterness and hatred for Parris clearly beat out her desire to maintain
her innocence. Her own selfish reasons for confessing made her responsible for what happened
afterward. It was also these bitter feelings that probably bolstered the girls into making their own
accusations. There were many people accused. Most, if not all, were accused out of spite. In the
article, it states, The trials resulted in the executions of twenty people, fourteen of them women,
and all but one by hanging (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salem_witch_trials). The girls probably
wouldn t have had the confidence to make accusations, but after hearing Tituba s emotional
confession, they jumped on it like rabid animals. Tituba s confession the pebble that started the
avalanche of wild accusations. Tituba was completely responsible for the onset of the Salem Witch

Prescription Health Care Essay
The cost of prescription drugs in America has risen to the level that most Americans could not
afford them with out the help of an insurance plan. The greedy and capitalistic pharmaceutical
companies rely on the United States to fund the future development of drugs with skyrocketing
prices and enormous margins. Recently the issue has extended into the mainstream political arena,
thanks in part to the new Medicare bill(2). With the push by congress for the importation of drugs
from foreign sources, regardless of the potential long and short term consequences, the time to
vocally support health care reform is upon the American public. The Food and Drug Administration
(FDA) regulates every substance intended for human consumption, with... Show more content on

In this situation the drugs were originally manufactured in the United States or an FDA
approved facility. The danger to the end user or patient is simply not knowing where the drugs
came from to begin with. This is where the FDA feels the patient could ingest either weak, over
potent or counterfeit drugs with potentially deadly side effects. Many on line Canadian
pharmacies have actual drugs imported from U.S. sources and some do not. As long as the
consumer can find a reputable and licensed Canadian pharmacy that has a strong Internet
presence there is no real danger of impure or counterfeit drugs(2). Several top FDA officials have
testified to Congress regarding the importation of drugs from foreign sources. Their conclusion has
been consistently, the burden this would place on the director of the FDA would be unfair(4). The
Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CIDER) has attempted to evaluate the potential for
regulation of such drugs, with the conclusion that regulation would be extremely costly and nearly
impossible. The main reason the task would be difficult would be the need to test every pill, vial,
or suppository that entered the United States. Since the drug is generally destroyed in the process
the consumer would never receive their prescription. The position of the FDA is, and should be to
protect the American public. However during my

Death Of A Salesman Linda Loman Character Analysis
Striving for perfection is often futile and frustrating, as societal norms are ever changing. Such
frustration is evident in the actions of Linda Loman, from Death of a Salesman, who is a
complicated and seemingly invisible housewife who must deal with her husband s childlike
behavior as he falls deeper into his mental illness. Linda s devotion, care, and loyalty to Willy and
her sons is not enough as he still treats her terribly by emotionally abusing her and verbally
dismissing her, and her sons abandon her due to the resentment they harbor towards their father.
Throughout her marriageto Willy, she has glossed over reality, attempting to make her familylook
perfect, and now that she must attempt to pull her family back together, she resorts... Show more

As a submissive housewife, Linda has limited jurisdiction over her household as Willy is the
primary form of authority; however, Linda leverages her position as her sons pal and
continually manipulates them in attempts to force them to please their father and conform to
societal ideals. As she criticizes her son Happy, stating one a philandering bum (Miller 57),
Linda attempts to reign both of her sons dreams in through manipulation. Happy is the only son
attempting to be successful by societal standards, yet, she criticizes him. Hoping to instill the
idea that he will never be good enough, Linda expects more out of Happy than she does out of
her son Biff, who is the true philandering bum . Biff travels the country looking for work on
ranches and steals for no other reason than because he wants to; however, Linda manipulates
Biff with the fate of his father. Linda states Biff, I swear to God! Biff, his life is in your hands!
(Miller 60), using the fate of her husband s life to manipulate her rogue son into conforming to
societal ideals and into joining the business world despite his wishes not to. Linda expects her
sons to cure Willy s mental illness through their own respective successes and does not believe that
Willy will ever be happy until her sons are successful in the business world. Through her
manipulation, Linda is nearly successful in reigning her sons back under her jurisdiction and

The Political Terms Left And Right Were Devised During The...
The political terms left and right were devised during the French revolution to describe the seating
arrangement in the British parliament. Those who sat on the left were generally opposed the
monarchy and supported the revolutions, while those on the right supported the traditional
institutions of the British Empire. It was during the nineteen century that the word wing began
following the term left and right, usually with weary intent. Those considered left wing were
unorthodox in their religious or political view
A radical ideology of the left is defined as political positions or activities that accepts or supports
social equality, often in opposition to social hierarchy and social inequality. Often those of left
wing ideology involve in concern for those in society who are perceived at a disadvantage
relative to others and a belief that there are unjustified inequalities that need to be reduced or
abolished. They propose a view of human beings living together harmoniously without great
disparities in wealth or social classes. On the other hand, those of the right wing radical ideology
are political positions or activities that view some forms of social inequality as either inevitable,
natural, normal or desirable and typically defend this position based on natural law, economics or
traditions.
On radical ideology that might take place in the United States is capitalism. The capitalist theory isn

clearly in one of the boroughs that make up New York City. It s easy to tell the differences between
these two films, but not as simple to determine the similarities. Much more differences happen to

Los Angeles is a desert community . During the time, Los Angeles was part of the desert, but in
the other film, New York has been already in its prime with larger skyscrapers and a more
diverse community. Not only that, but even throughout the films, it was noticeable to point out
the cultural and architectural differences within the people and buildings portrayed. The way the
cities are portrayed in the films truly do change the experience one may have in those cities
throughout life because one may expect the cities to be what they want it to be as shown in the
films, but in reality won t experience that because it s currently two thousand and seventeen and
the films were made to give the audience a taste of what 1937 and the 60 s were. As for
symbolism, both the films use different techniques with symbols that create and reveal more
than what is being shown to the audience. For example, in A Bronx Tale, music is the key
symbol for everything. Such as the bus scene when Calogero is talking to his father, who is
driving the bus, and can t help but stare into Jane s eyes. Before Calogero sees her, upbeat jazz is
playing from his father s radio; yet as soon as Calogero sees Jane, the music begins to slow down
and make the scene more than what it appears to be. Creating a moment between them that can only
be seen by them. The important part of the symbolism in Chinatown is the color of clothing the

This essay aims to portray each individual party s viewpoint on the incident that occurred
regarding The Macgregor Hotel and the claimants Peter and Beatrice, in addition the Crown
Prosecution Court will also be scrutinising the events which took place that evening. The crown
prosecution court will be the first party to put their argument forward. In order to achieve this,
the consecutive order of events need to be stated: Peter booked a room for a week at Macgregor

for loss of, damage to guest s property. Peter asked the receptionist to look after his camera but she

The authority supporting this view can be derived for the case of Hobbs v Winchester
Corporation [1910] where the butcher was guilty because the meat he tried to sell was unfit for
human consumptions. The second argument will be delivered by Beatrice where her account
of the occurrences will be reviewed, along with possible claims and remedies available to her.
Crucial acts which may be of great use to Beatrice will also be referenced, in order to strengthen
her case against the defendant Macgregor hotel. After having consumed the faulty oysters
Beatrice felt sick, whilst making her way to the toilets she tripped over ripped carpet falling
hard and breaking her arm. Prior to this incident Beatrice was working as a team assistant/PA
investment banker employed by HSBC on a full time contract of 40 hours per week. In regards
to the injury Beatrice was unable to work for a period of two months therefore she suffered
financial loss as well as sustaining personal injuries which are certified by medical reports. The
first statute which can be referred to is the occupiers liability act 1957 s.2 (1), which states:
Occupier of the premises (defendant) owes the same duty of care, the common duty of care to all
visitors The Macgregor hotel therefore owed a duty of care towards Beatrice, ensuring all
necessary precautions are taken to ensure a safe stay at the hotel avoiding any potential

The main focus is on the United States military bomb disposal unit but something that stood out
is the architectural aspect in the movie. There are numerous components in the film that give an
extremely valid feel of the setting. In the film, the structures all seem as though they are from the
Middle East, shrouded in dried mud, and is demonstrated within many scenes which gives the
possibility of a nation that is living in neediness and poverty. The traditional Baghdad house,
commonly arranged on a swarmed confine street, has latticed windows and an open interior
porch. The environment is sweltering and dry in summer, cool and wet in winter. Spring and fall
are brief however great. Among May and September the typical step by step most outrageous
temperature accomplishes the low 100s F (low 40s C), and the high may accomplish the low 120s
F (high 40s C) at late morning in July and August (Harr). Considering that the movie is taken in
Baghdad the climate seems to be more warmer in the scenes of the movie with the sun shining
down during all scenes taken outside therefore for this reason I believe that this movie is correct

Essay On Michael Faraday
Research Paper Draft An expression states, Curiosity killed the cat. In the case of science, curiosity
has helped figure out what exactly makes the world go around the sun and many other things that
we could not live without knowing. Curiosity sparks an interest and is the reason for flying a kite
in the middle of a lightning storm, it is the reason we have cars, computers and other machines.
Throughout history, there are many famous scientists and chemists that have helped explain, and
shape the world we live in, Michael Faradayis one of those people. He caused a big impact on the
world through his beliefs, discoveries, and contributions to the scientific world.

In 1812, a customer gave Faraday some tickets to hear some lectures at the Royal Institution. He got
the chance to listen to four of Humphry Davy s (one of the most famous chemist of that time)
lectures. Michael loved every moment of the lectures and was later, offered a job as a chemical
assistant at the institution.
Faraday got the chance to do experiments for the Royal Institution as well as creating some of his
own. He gave his first lecture ever in 1816 on the properties of matter and published his first
academic paper on the analysis of calcium hydroxide. In 1820, Michael submitted two papers to the
Royal Institution. The first was about magnets and their electric current; he found that magnets
exert a force on a wire carrying electric current. The second paper was on how to liquefy chlorine
and isolate benzene, which has become a fundamental component of organic chemistry. In 1821, he
was promoted to be the Superintendent of House and Laboratory of the Royal Institution and
published his work on electromagnetic rotation, which contributed to the electric motor in the
future. He found that liquid mercury was a good conductor of electricity and metal wires in the
mercury will continue to rotate around a central magnet as long as there is an electric current
flowing through the circuit. He found that a wire carrying electric

Essay On The Impact Of Technology On World War 1
The effect of weapon technology had a big impact on World War One. World World I was the most
important turning point of the 20th century. It destroyed most of Europe and destroyed four
empires while also creating many new nations. It triggered the Russian Revolution and set the bases
for Balkan Middle Eastern conflicts that remain unresolved. World War Iwas the war fought mainly
in Europe and the Middle East, between the Central Powers and the Allies. World War I occurred

Able carry greater bomb loads over far longer distances than early aeroplanes, they were soon
employed by the Germans to carry the war to Britain itself. Most aggressive nations used airships
mainly for exploration and observation missions, but today it is the attack of the German
Zeppelins that are best remembered. In the days leading up to World War I, when aeroplane flight
had been possible for only 10 years, there existed a large body of opinion that the future of military
flying lay as much with lighter aircraft.
The career of Peter Strasser parallels the story of the German airship service. Promoted Leader of
Airships in 1913, he led the first strategic bombing campaign in history. The defences eventually
mastered the Zeppelin threat, but as Germany s defeat loomed near in August 1918 Strasser led
another raid. His chosen craft the powerful Zeppelin built.
To prosecute a war on such a scale meant, for the British in particular, continuous and guaranteed
movement of men and many materials which, demanded full control of the sea. Through this it was
possible also to effectively deny the sea to the enemy. Close blockade, as practiced during the early
19th century, had been rendered impracticable by the submarine, the torpedo s and the mine, so this
front line function of the battleship had

How Accounting Is A Profession
Accounting is a profession that seems to be growing by the day. We were told during the first class
period that employment of accountants is growing 22% from 2008 to 2018. Goes to show that
Accounting is something that everyone needs, and is the backbone of business. Throughout this
semester we have been fortunate enough to have speakers from multiple accounting professions
come talk to us about their professionand what it entails. Tony Batman stood out to me because
he shed a different light on the accounting profession and business in general. Common
perception is that people get into business just to make money. Mr. Batman said something that
will stick with me throughout my entire career that is contrary to the notion of businesses being
around solely for profit. He said that the primary purpose of business is to make people s lives
better . I had never thought of business that way, I had always perceived it as providing a service
for customers but you are actually making their lives better while providing that service. In this
essay I will discuss how things I learned in this class helped guide my future career choice.
The first big question on deciding a career in accounting that was brought up was Public
Accounting vs. Private Accounting. We discussed that Public Accountants were more of service
providers to clients; this could include audit, tax, and advisory service roles that the company
provides to their employers. Most of the speakers that came to talk to us,

The Importance Of Writing In The Colonial Language
Additionally, it can be used to communicate with other indigenous people who speak different
languages, but understand the same issues of colonialism. In the specific case of some African
states, such as Achebe s Nigeria, the English language became the lingua franca of the national
bourgeoisie representative of the various national ethnicities, on the one hand, and the forces of
colonialismand transnational capital, on the other.
Indeed, postcolonial literature in the colonial language is a double edged sword. Without its use, the
writing may never reach a wide audience, as it is impossible to translate every work into each
different indigenous language. Furthermore, those who have experienced a diaspora after
colonization, such as the Africans who were transported to colonial lands, lost their indigenous
language. Their ancestors grew up with the colonial language, and unless they learn their
indigenous language, they have no choice to write in the colonial language. Yet, writing in the
colonial language furthermore reflects the power that colonists still exert today, that their language
must be used to describe the aftereffects of their subjugation of another country. The colonial
language becomes culturally more powerful, devaluing the native language as it is brought into its
domain, domesticated, and accommodated. Ultimately, the writers must take into consideration the
positives and negatives of each approach. They have the choice to write in either language,

The San Francisco Earthquake By Jerome Clark
Rajdeep Singh
Men lost their reason at these awful moments ( The San Francisco Earthquake, 1906 4). This was
said by Jerome Clark, a survivor of San Francisco s deadliest earthquake in history. In this single
sentence, he described the entire disaster through his own eyes ( The San Francisco Earthquake,
1906 4). The Great San Francisco Earthquake may be studied by examining the earthquake, the fire,
and the aftermath of the disaster.
The night before the earthquake was almost like any other night in the bristling city of San
Francisco. The world famous opera singer, Enrico Caruso, was performing at the city s Grand
Opera House. The music and singing filled the building with harmonious notes. Caruso s voice
was like thunder, and it seemed to shake the Opera House. Little did the spectators know that the
earthquake to come in a matter of hours would not only shake, but destroy San Francisco s Opera
House (Montagne 1). On April 18, 1906 at 5:12 AM, the citizens of San Francisco were awakened
by intense shaking. The earthquake lasted from forty to sixty seconds, with a small fore shock that
arrived 20 seconds earlier. It is difficult for scientists to estimate the intensity of this earthquake
because of the early and inaccurate equipment from the turn of the century. With today s modern
equipment, seismologists have estimated the earthquake to be a 7.7 to 8.3 on the Richter scale.
This single quake ruptured 290 miles along California s San Andreas fault line

Essay on Lady Macbeth
Discuss whether or not you feel sympathy for Lady Macbeth
There are certain aspects of Lady Macbeth s character that suggests she is good and therefore her
downfall increases my sympathy for her by the end of act 5. But I would also argue that she
entailed evil to fuel her sleeping ambition that would make her nemesis, her mental collapse, fully
justified.
Lady Macbeth s role as a supporting wife at the start of the play exceeds the duties of a normal
wife. She is the Eve to Macbeth s Adam and is tempted. Although Macbeth hints at the idea of
taking the crown in his letter home, it is Lady Macbeth s ruthless determination to make him king
that persuaded him to murder Duncan. Did she do this in the interests of Macbeth or was it ... Show

Although I have expressed unsympathetic views about Lady Macbeth, I do feel that a certain
amount of sympathy arises from Act 5 Scene 1, which tends to hide her previous evil deeds. Lady
Macbeth has not been seen by the audience for some time, this is because Macbeth has shut her
out of his life and she has become isolated and lonely. Lady Macbeth s mental collapse is caused by
her acknowledgement of her share of guilt and is expressed by images of Duncan s blood, ...will
these hands ne er be clean?...
This is also a contrast to her belief that water cleanses the conscience of any guilt. Lady Macbeth s
mental collapse reinforces the idea of Scotland being diseased under Macbeth s reign and because
he was not put their by divine right he cannot cure her.
Lady Macbeth s role as a supporting wife resurfaces again in scene 5. She is now afraid of the
dark, which is in contrasts to her earlier wishes for darkness to conceal the murder. Lady Macbeth
is haunted by dreams, like Macbeth ( ...O full of scorpions is in my mind... ), and sleep walks; this
echoes my last sentence in that she is now taking on the trauma and guilt from her husband. This
reveals Lady Macbeth s compassion and love for her husband

By United States, I mean our country. As a product of my generation, however, I envision our
country as being the leader of the free world though. So it follows that I conclude it is also
important to recognize that a leader must set the standard by which they wish to lead. Therefore,
if the United States fails, the free world fails. Likewise, when any single piece of free world
fails, then by extension, it can be reasoned that the United States has failed in its leadership.
When I say the United States is ill prepared for cyberwarfare, I am not only speaking solely to
attack directly against our nation alone. I am also referring to our standing as leader of the free
world, which no doubt is weakened any time one piece of the free world is weakened or vulnerable
to threat exposure.
By using the term ill prepared, I aim to convey that the United States is not equipped with
enough protection to prevent every possible instance of the threat of cyberwarfare from
occurring. I propose we are not where our nation should be in terms of dealing with all actual
occurrences of the threat of cyberwarfare, were it to be fully realized. This can be carried over
into our response capability to any such attack, which may manifest in many forms. For example,
our response against perpetrators and those who aid or comfort

Inorganic growth is a system of expanding the company by means of joining together with other
companies to form what one may call a conglomerate. Inorganic growth involves mergers and take
overs. A merger occurs when two firms come together or join together in order to share resources of
the two organisations. A merger helps enhance the two organisations which have joined to share
resources and management skills for the benefit of both organisations which now work under one
management structure. On the other hand take overs include acquisitions of a firm by another. In
this case the one company that has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and boost the opportunities. Therefore although Brendsen was making fewer profits as compared to
Davis Service Group it had many locations in other countries and it had a leading market, it
therefore consequently had many resources. The combination of the two companies therefore

Eric Rowton Gill Research Paper
Arthur Eric Rowton Gill, born in Brighton, England in 1882. Born in a family of twelve, he was
the elder brother of another well known graphic artist, MacDonald Gill. His family did not stayed
long in Brighton, as they moved to Chichester in 1897. Afterwards, Eric attended to Chichester
Technical and Art School. Three years later, he moved to London as a trainee to become an
architect with the practice and help of specialist in ecclesiastical architecture, W.D. Caroe. Soon
after, he became unsatisfied in his architectural training, deciding to study at Westminster Technical
School, where he attended in evening classes in stone masonry. In addition, he also decided to
practice calligraphy at the Central School of Arts and Crafts. It was there that he met one of his
major influences, Edward Johnson, the creator of the London Undergroundtypeface. After three
years from his training in architecture, he gave it up and decided to become a calligrapher, letter
cutter and monumental mason. In 1907, Eric moved to Ditchling in Sussex, after he married Ethel
Hester Moore, and decided to work from there. He would later inspire an artists community in the

Why Do We Study Criminal Justice System
Why We Study Criminal Justice System?
It helps to have an understanding the nature of the criminal justice system and how it works in
criminal justice professional field. We study criminal justice and as more students entering the
field, there is always new research based on evidence, reviews of what works and new legislative
policy. We study criminal justice also to understand the issues that impact all areas of society. If
you want to get into criminal law, we study and understand the nature of criminal law and exactly
what criminal law focuses exclusively on what crime. For example, violent crimes that involve
physical harm to another human being in some way include homicide, assaults, both non sexual and
sexual (rape) and robbery(forceful taking of property from another person) (Oden Stiglitz, 2015,
Lecture 1). Then you have to understand the definition of homicide. That it, homicide is defined as
unjustified or unexcused killing of one human being by another (Oden Stiglitz, 2015, Lecture 1).

William Woolf s The Lighthouse
Woolf s To the Lighthouse is written in a Modernist style, is very philosophical, does not have a
traditional casual plot, and focuses on the exploration of the mind. Woolf uses experimental
techniques, such as writing as a stream of consciousness in order to present the experience,
subconscious minds, and the conscious thoughts of characters. The sense of a clear authorial
narrator is missing as Woolf describes the minds of her characters in poetic images and her free
flowing style allows Woolf to flit between different characters minds and examine experience
through various shifting perspectives. The use of this form allows her to focus on particular
moments within the novel, and the plot is created by following the train of thoughts... Show more

As Julian Hanna wrote, The inward turn or exploration of the psyche often said to characterize
modernist literature is difficult to imagine without Freud . Woolf seems uninterested in the external
influences that occur during the period of the novel, and passes over significant events such as
World War One, and the marriage and deaths of her characters, effectively capturing these within 10
concise chapters.
The novel does not progress on a what happens next basis, but progresses by following the continual
activity of characters consciousness and impressions, moving forward by a series of scenes
arranged according to a sequence of several particular moments of consciousness. Writing in this
style allows Woolf to convey her characters using very little physical description, so we are left to
interpret them through the thoughts and opinions of other characters. Therefore it is hard for the
reader to interpret because it is unclear whose perspective the opinion is from, and we do not know
if they are reliable. Woolf filters all of the different characters thoughts together, and translates their
emotions by writing poetically in a stream of consciousness. This allows Woolf to distort time by
focusing on individual moments and skimming over others, therefore stretching out certain periods
of time and condensing

Internal Conflict In The Lovely Bones
A well written story involves important topics that are interesting for the reader, but also
incorporates strong emotions. Susie Salmon, a fourteen year old girl, is raped and murdered by a
neighborhood man. She tells the story from her point of view in heaven as she watches her family
grieve over her loss and search to find her killer. In The Lovely Bones, Alice Seboldcreates a
suspenseful novel that explores rape through the victims eyes while also telling a heart wrenching
story with conflict, imagery, and plottwists. The internal conflict of this novel causes the reader to
feel sympathy for the main character, Susie. When Susie is raped and then murdered, she goes
to heaven. When she is there, she is so wrapped up in her family s life, she can not move on. She
is stuck in a different heaven, where she can t see any of her family that has passed, and all she
sees is Earth. Susie s counselor in heaven, Frannie, gives her some advice: If you stop asking
why you were killed instead of someone else, stop investigating the vacuum left by your loss,
stop wondering what everyone left on Earth is feeling, she said, you can be free. Simply put you
have to give up on Earth (Sebold 120). Susie wants to see the real heaven, where she could forget
the past, and be filed with joy. However, to her this seems impossible.. This internal conflict of
letting go of Earth to have a peaceful afterlife, holds her back from exploring what is actually out
there. Alice Sebold creates a

America needs change, but why not start with the Canadians?
It was a few years ago, and I had gone grocery shopping with my mother. I d always shop with her
just so I could get out of the house, walk around, and pick out food that I wouldn t have thought
of for the grocery list. My mother was a conservative person. She had grown up on a farm in a
small town where change would least occur. She was a spiteful person whose insecurities led her
judgments. Despite her animosity to most things, she would tell me stories to inform me on
matters she finds important, like how much money I should save for a car, or how she earned a
high credit score. On our way home from the grocery store, she decided to tell me a story she
heard from her coworker. My coworker, she has a pool in her backyard, and one day she found
the black neighbor s kids swimming in her pool. She told them that they should ask to use her
pool and told their mom, but their mom said, and my mother used her best, yet ear aching
impression of a black woman and belted: you ain t using no pool! We can use it all we want! She
decided to follow her story with also, I m going to refer to black people as Canadians. That way no
one complains about it. Nobody cares what the actual Canadians, so my coworker found Canadians
in her pool.
I nodded silently because I had always found her racism distasteful. I had been quite used to her
prejudice, so it was natural for me to passively await her to stop. At the time, I

Spartacus Corruption
Spartacus takes place during the first century BC, in the ancient roman empire. this empire has slid
into corruption and moral decay, extensively employing the work of slaves to carry out the lesser
jobs of society. these slaves are often mistreated, abused, exploited, and worked until death, as
shown in the opening scene where Spartacuss friend dies from work exhaustion. This opening
scene takes place in a Roman salt mine in the province of Libya, where a large group of slaves
toil with pick and axe to extract the precious mineral from the ground, and Roman soldiers guard,
and abuse the slaves. the commentary tells us of the hopelessness of the soldiers situation, and that
the only freedom they can hope of achieving is death. Spartacus... Show more content on

to kill one another in the arena. During this time the gladiators are kept in poor conditions, more
akin to a prisoners life than an athletes, however some relief is given in the form of occasionally

Spartacus one night, and instead of the performing the regular sexual acts with one another, they

school. When taunted by Batiatus over His situation with Varinia, Spartacus shouts I m not an

Choice In Rappaccini s Daughter By Nathanial Hawthorne
Rappaccini s Daughter is indeed a unique story that could contain many messages, however, there
are more reasons behind Nathanial Hawthorne s character choice. Authors tend to have a motive
or some sort of message behind their story, Hawthorne is not an exception. Another factor to take
note of is how the story revolves around Rappaccini as according to Giovanni, his demeanor was
that of one walking among malignant influences, such as savage beats, or deadly snakes, or evil
spirits (Hawthorne 1142). Rappaccini was regarded as a distrustful gardener which suggests he was
a man not to be trusted. Giovanni questions the suspicious demeanor of Rappaccini himself which
suggests Hawthorne is perhaps trying to convey a message about doctors as well. Furthermore,

Rappaccini s Daughter is a story informed by Sophia and Nathaniel Hawthorne s fears: Beatrice is
fatally poisoned by her father, a reformer, and his rival, an orthodox physician (120). Moreover,
all of the medicines no matter the doctor, would combine to ultimately result in death. That was
exactly the case within Rappaccini s Daughter with Beatrice inhaling ... [the plants] various
perfumes, as if she were one of those beings of old classic fable (Hawthorne 1145). Beatrice, who

Concepts And Principles Of Marketing And Consumer...
2.0 Introduction
The aim of this report is to gain an insight into how the concepts and principles of marketing and
consumer psychology are applied to a certain product and aim to analyse and evaluate the
application of marketing and consumer psychology concepts by a product. This report will be
looking at the Cadbury s Dairy Milk chocolate bar, a product that is known around the world; In
1824, John Cadbury opened a grocer s shop at 93 Bull Street, Birmingham... The Cadbury
manufacturing business was born in 1831... In 1905, Cadbury Dairy Milk is launched (Cadbury,
2015). This report will cover a range of consumer behavior theories and how these theories help
Cadbury s attract and retain consumers. It will also include a marketing mix analysis in which at
least two alternative marketing models will be included.
3.0 Main Body
3.1 Consumer Behaviour
In this section I will be discussing relevant consumer behaviour theories and then providing a more
in depth analysis of how Cadbury utilise these.
3.1.1 The Decision Making Process
The decision making process has five steps that simply display buyer behaviour, and logically goes
through, step by step, the process of a consumer buying a product.
The first step in this model is problem recognition; this comes when the consumer becomes aware
of the problem , they then develop needs or wants that they want to be satisfied. Applying this to
Cadbury s it shows that the first stage, problem recognition, would be the consumer s

Discrimination And Discrimination In Society
Since the beginning of time people have discriminated against others. White people will look at
people of different races and think less of them. These people who discriminate think that they are
superior to them or they have more authority. Slavery was abolished in 1835 but that doesn t mean
people of color were treated any better. Every today there is still discrimination. Crooks symbolizes
the groups of people that are still discriminated against and this lack of power helps you understand
that racismstill exists today.
In every kind of job people of color are discriminated against. Maybe they weren t given the
promotion because of their skin color or they are paid less than their white coworkers. The
Washington post wrote an article about discrimination in Hollywood. Even though there are
these huge actors and celebrities in Hollywood they still get paid less than successful white
actors. Minorities make up more than 36 percent of the U.S. population but represented only 10
percent of lead characters in movies... (Hollywood s Race). Along as in regular everyday jobs
there is a pay gap. Compared to whites, African Americans are twice as likely to be unemployed,
and earn nearly 25 percent less when they are employed. (Discrimination) This is quite a very
large unemployment number, not only that but also a large gap in jobs you wouldn t even expect.
Now relating back to the book. Crooks is discriminated against in his job and even though this book
take place years

Jane Elliott s Exercises
Blue or Brown Eyes
1.I believe that I would do fine in taking part in Jane Elliott s exercises. I have a unique view due
to my circumstances from being a non religious asexual aspie (Asperger s). I have found that
everything someone does can be traced back to a reason. Yes there is something for me to gain
by taking her session however I am unsure what it is. I took socialization classes when I was
younger at UC DAVIS that at the time didn t think would really help me. They played a vital
part in allowing me to advance to the stage I am at but at the time I didn t think it was important.
Even though I don t know what I would get new experiences are a way to grow. The most
important lessons to take away from this I believe are awareness and personal experience bias.
Awareness is something that until it is put in to public knowledge the issue will never move on. For
example the amount of funding that breast cancer gets compared to most other medical issues is
huge. The reason for that is the awareness level of breast cancer in the public eye and how common
it is for a high level of personal experiences with it in some way. Personal ... Show more content on

I think that to unlearn racism is something that only society as a whole can do. Only by society
striving to solve not only the issue of racism but all isms will we move forward. I think Jane
Elliot s lessons work in that it gives the people who partake firsthand experience. However I don
t think it will ever solve the real issue overall. Society has to take responsibility in solving this
issue. The most effective method I believe would be mandatory ostracizing similar to mandatory
military service. It would give everyone personal experience in dealing with being the out group.
However this would be rather harsh the best method would be something that deals with the issue
of mindset confirmation bias and logic. If we could teach everyone about how their minds affect
them and that everyone has their own issues would be the best

Carbohydrates are Killing Us Softly
The nutritional dietary consumption of carbohydrates is between 55 75% for the vast majority of
the global population as their main source of food intake and energy. And the general populous
continues to be misinformed by government agencies regarding what a normal, healthy diet,
should be, as well as what a balanced diet looks like. Eating a low carb high fat, or ketogenic, diet
of high fat, adequate protein and low carbohydrates can provide many health benefits as compared

Ketosis is the metabolic state that most of the body s energy supply comes from ketone bodies in
the blood, contrasting to the state of glycolysis in which blood glucose provides most of the
energy (Taubes, 2011, 140 141). Ketosis might be better known as acetone breath, a common
symptom of progressing diabetes mellitus type. It is characterized by serum concentrations of
ketone bodies, with low and stable levels of insulin and blood glucose. It is commonly
generalized with hyper ketonemia, which is an elevated level of ketone bodies in the blood
throughout the body. Ketone bodies are formed by ketogenesis as the liver glycogen stores are
depleted (Taubes, 2011, p.155). The ketone bodies used for energy are acetoacetate and beta
hydroxybutyrate, with that, the levels of ketone bodies are regulated mainly by glucagon and
insulin (p.156). Most cells can then be used by both glucose and ketone bodies for fuel, and during
ketosis, free fatty acids and glucose synthesis fuel the rest.
According to Mark Sisson (2009), longer term ketosis can result from fasting or staying on a low
carbohydrate diet, and ketosis that s deliberately induced serves as a medical intervention for
epilepsy. In glycolysis, higher levels of insulin block release of fat from adipose tissues and
promote storage of body fat, while the body is in ketosis, fat reserves are continually released and
consumed as energy (Sisson, 2009, p.47). This is why ketosis is referred to as

Media And Aging Process Analysis
When you re an adolescent, you will go through puberty and grow. The media might show tall
people as clumsy because their naturally slower than short people because of bone structure or a
number of other factors. This is untrue, as some people are genetically predisposed to being tall,
and as such can take advantage of it by participating in activities that favor height, such as
basketball. Some people develop body hair slower than others, and the media might portray that as
something to be ridiculed, but everybody is different and the body works in different ways. Some
people s family history will determine how young or how old their body matures, and understanding
this will be beneficial to the mental healthof an impressionable young adult.
Sometimes the media might show middle aged people as having a mid life crisis or otherwise
not being able to cope with getting older. There are many people that go through this, but there
are also people that are fine with it and eating right and exercising will usually help slow the
aging process. Middle aged adults also are usually mentally tough and aware that they are getting
older but will try and remain youthful. The media takes advantage of this by marketing products
designed to reverse the aging process. Examples of this include anti wrinkle cream or hair dye

The Effects Of Tylenol Products On The Economy
According to Lewis (2006), crisis is an interruption from previously normal state of functioning
resulting in turmoil, instability, and a significant upheaval to a system (p. 27). In other words, a
crisis is a negative predictable or unpredictable event that affects the future trend of individuals,
groups, organizations, and government. For instance, pharmaceutical company Johnson and
Johnson had an unpredictable crisis in 1982 with its product Tylenol, which was laced with
cyanide and led to several murders in Chicago. The events of this crisis could have changed the
perception of Tylenol products. Another example of organizational crisis was the predictable 2012
Hurricane Sandy. Although companies of all sizes expected the Hurricane due to the weather
forecasting, some areas in New York and New Jersey were affected worse than others. There were
businesses that terminated operations for several business days. In addition to Hurricane Sandy
being an organizational crisis, it was also a crisis for many families that lost power in their homes
and a crisis for government departments such as FEMA (Federal Emergency ManagementAgency),
and other agencies within local and state governments.
Anxiety (or stress) should not be mistaken for a crisis. For instance, a parent being late picking up
his/her child from a daycare is not a crisis, it is anxiety that is sometimes manifested with a fast
heartbeat, extreme sweating, etc. On the other hand, the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting

The Role of Infrastructure in Information Assurance and Cyber Security
The attacks on critical infrastructure have become a growing cause of concern for governments and
private providers internationally whether caused through cybercriminals pursuing financial gain or
by hackers as political acts intended to emasculate governments and companies credibility. The
anxiety around these threats is vindicated, as research exhibits that attacks on the critical
infrastructure are greater than before in both complexity and prevalence and will endure to develop
in the near future. The site management and monitoring have progressed for critical infrastructure
facilities as they have become more increasingly connected to the internet. However, added
convenience of connectivity has turned once limited attack surface of these industries into a fertile
landscape for cyber attacks. Due to the potentially high profile impacts of attacks on critical
infrastructure systems, these industries have become even more attractive targets for
cybercriminals (Cavelty, 2014).

Homeland Security is one of the most important departments in the United States. The United States
Department of Homeland Security job is to reduce our vulnerability to terrorism and lead a national

One negative component of computers is that hackers often find methods to penetrate the
information barriers. Homeland security agencies are trying to secure the national computer with
programs that target individual computer owners, corporate computer networks, internet service

program US CERT is to reduce the vulnerability of computer systems. Hackers usually try to harm
computers by placing viruses or worms in them, but the US CERT program helps reduce the

Bunch Vs Kant
In the history of philosophers there has been a major span of views and with that a large amount of
agreements and disagreements. From the 18th century until now for example four philosophers in
specific have had similar and contrasting ideas about ethics. Four philosophers that make a great
example of this are Immanuel Kant, David Hume, Friedrich Nietzsche and Charlotte Bunch.
First off, Kant is an ethical theorist that would be considered a deontologist, which is someone who
believes that an action s morality depends on the motive behind it. The other side of the philosophic
view are consequentialist, who believe that the consequences of an action are the more defining of
the action s morality than the intent or motive behind it. Kant ... Show more content on

Kant believes that the someone Reason we shouldn t do bad is because it s irrational. To Kant
being rational is the very thing that makes us human. Rational thought is the one thing that
separates us from animals and is our biggest tool of being and existence. That being said, being
irrational would be going against the very thing that makes humanity human. That act
irrationally in Kant s eyes would be to act immorally and to act immorally is bad in itself. So as
humans our duty to ourselves and the rest of humanity is to act in a rational, moral fashion. We
can achieve that by acting in a way that involves what Kant considers universal law, which
would be act in way that if everyone else in the world acted in the same fashion the world would
be content and a livable place. One example of this is the cutting in line example, that if everyone
cut in line then there would be no lines and everywhere you go you would end up just fighting
your way to the front and this type of society is unfeasible to will yourself to live there.
Similarly, David Hume Believe we cannot be 100% positive about cause and effect relationships.
These relationships that our mind makes is an inherent trait of humans but Hume believes we can
never truly know if something is the exact effect to a caused event. Just because two events occur
one after the other our minds try to connect the two, but this process is ultimately just assuming that
one caused the other. In addition, because of this we can never definitively say one thing cause the

The Pros And Cons Of Outsourcing
Honestly, what is outsourcing and why do we as a business even need this type of idea to take
place today? In order to understand outsourcing, we first have to define what outsourcing is.
Outsourcing can be defined as using an outside company to provide service rather than hiring in
house workers. Now we have to determine why businesses need outsourcing. Typically businesses
perform their own tasks themselves, but nowadays we find outsourcing becoming a lot more
common. Outsourcing can be as simple as hiring another to do one job or as complex as putting
businessin abroad countries. So why do business even need outsourcing if they can do the jobs
themselves one might ask. The answers it s cheaper and more efficient. It is simple it costs less
to bring in these outside companies or workers to complete a task for much cheaper then the
company would have to pay it s in house workers. Another reason why outsourcing has also
become so popular a business might not be able to do a certain task it s buyer wants. This is
where outsourcing can play a factor as well. No business is completely perfect assistance and
partnerships are key to being a successful company. Outsourcing allows companies to go out get the
help they desire, then continue to perform in the manner in which they have been before.... Show

If the wages for low class workers is beginning to increase, the decrease in wages for more skilled

problems. U.S. companies produce their products overseas in order to take advantage of lower
labor costs i.e., comparative advantage. But that means U.S. consumers get cheaper prices. You ll

Civil War
The American Civil War, that took place from 1861 to 1865, marked one of the most important
changes in American history, it was fought between the Union and the Confederate States of
America. A total of even southern states that left the Union to form their own country in order to
protect the institution of slavery. The Civil War transformed the country s economy, politics,
women, African Americans, along with major breakthroughs in technology. The war increased
northern prosperity, whereas the South s entire society quickly collapsed. The war s impact on
northern society was positive, which led to an advancement in all aspects of northern life.

The Union developed their own country in order to abolish the institution of slavery. The union was
not going to allow the confederates to practice slavery. Many northern states favored the abolition
of slavery. The southerners favored the institution of slavery and favored the power of state
governments over the federal government. This caused a split in political parties and led to the
formation of new parties in the United States. The Constitutional Union Party rose and was formed
by former Whigs. The Constitutional Union Party s stance held in preserving the union by refusing
to take sides on slavery. When it became obvious that support for the party was weak, many in the
Constitutional Union Party attempted to join with Northern Democrats who supported
appeasement. The United States defeated the Confederate States and abolished slavery nationwide.(
America s Reconstruction People and Politics After the Civil War ).
During the Civil War, American women want to find a way to contribute to the war. Women in the
North and South joined as volunteers and signed up to work as nurses. It was the first time in

The essay was written in February 2011 and appeared in Forbes. Salzburg s concern is that the
universities are placing more importance on the athletics and football than academics. His essay
displays organization and he provided details to reply his point as I will try to do the same in my
essay. The resources support my main claim; football is very profitable for many universities, but at
what cost to the students outside of the athletic department. What happens to the lost athletic
players that received a poor college education? I learned that more 30 percent of student athletes
does not graduate, and that 12 percent more money is spent on athlete students than general
students. Salzburg uses Forbes as his platform to reach his audience of his peers and business
professional. He provides a logical argument that students in both the academics and athletic
department can appreciate. Salzburg is the Bloomberg Distinguish Professor at John Hopkins

Geometry Scholarship Essay
Geometry, why did she take it a year early when she knew too well that she struggled in math?
She was pressured by her parents, teachers recommended her, and her friends expected her to take
on the challenge of geometry as a freshman. It was the first week of high school full of excitement
and confusion. She knew from the start that she would struggle, but could she pull through? Was a
passing grade within her reach? She always had a horrified look on her face during fourth period,
for she had taken notes, done the homework with ease, attended after schooltutoring but constantly
drew a blank when exams were announced and taken. Exams read D after D , week after week.
Geometry was the only class she struggled with, all A s in every single other academic class, but
geometry never seemed to get better. Sleepless nights not just studying but drowning herself in the
thought that she may not pass the class. Constantly crying herself to sleep because she knew that
if that one C was unattainable she d receive the first failing grade in her life, have to face her

hours every day. The only class that truly worried her was geometry. Was all the time she spent

it? Was the passing grade she yearned for in reach at this point in the year? She felt confident
about her final exam, and the pending final grade tortured her during the winter break, it was the
only thing she could think about. When reports cards arrived not only was she disappointed in
herself, but her work. She knew she could have done better, but could she

Should Police Use Tasers
In today s culture, crime and attacks on police are at an all time high. Officers have multiple
different weapons and ways to defend themselves and do their jobs. However, it is often
speculated about what the best option to use against the public is. Some of the different options
include guns, tasers, night sticks, and rubber bullets. But it is speculated whether several of the
options should be permissible. Many people on and off the force all agree, however, that police
should absolutely be allowed to use tasers.
First, police officers should be allowed to use tasers because they tend to be safer than other
forms of weaponry. Unlike weapons such as guns, tasers usually have less permanent effects, and
have a smaller death possibility. They are often used because they are known as non lethal
weapons. According to Muth, Brittany L. (2016, 31) in Less than lethal options for military
police: When used safely, properly, and with caution, they are the best police equipment alternative
to deadly force . Those who are against the use of tasers in the police force often use the reason
that heart attacks, as well as other conditions, can be caused by the voltage. But despite the chances
of a heart attack or other serious condition, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike many other weapons, officers can be trained using tasers in a safer way. They are easy to
learn how to use, they don t require a specific license that must be renewed every so often, and if
an accident occurs, the chances of a severe accident occurring are diminished. Also, officers will
have the ability to be tased by one another. While it would be painful, they would have the ability
to be more aware of the consequences of using the taser, therefore resulting in the officers being
more conscientious of their actions. Both reasons show how being trained with tasers is more
effective, and why officers should be allowed to use

Analysis Of The Movie Platoon
The movie Platoon reveals many different things about the nature of warfare in the post war era.
Platoon shows us what it was like being a soldier during that time. From drug use being so relevant
during that time to cope with stress to soldiers showing ruthlessness in many different scenarios like
the killing of many innocent people, and even betrayal within each other.
The drug abuse during the post war era was very great and relevant. Soldiers needed a way to
relieve their stress during the war. Thoughts of being with their parents once again would haunt
them. Drugs like marijuana and alcohol were used daily to cope with their daily stress. These
drugs are known to play with your brain which could ve caused indecisiveness or bad decisions.
The actions of one could displease another and lead to conflicts. In the movie Platoon, soldiers
would gather in their camps and use these drugs. They would use these drugs because they didn t
know if they would ever go back home and these drugs helped them escape these thoughts. These
drugs could have led to unprofessional behavior and lead to conflicts between their own people.
For some soldiers, drugs have helped them continue to fight the war and for other soldiers, it
created a very toxic environment.
The post war era was also a very ruthless era. With the killing of many innocent Vietnamese
people to the raping of little girls. The movie Platoon shows us just how little anybody cared about
these innocent people. Since this was the post war era many soldiers had the fear that some of the
innocent people could have been fighters, so they wouldn t want to take any chances of dying and
murder them before they could make any moves. A scene from Platoon shows when the squad
invaded a village and had all the villagers sit outside. Sergeant Barnes had killed the elderly lady
and then had threatened to kill the man s daughter. Sergeant Elias comes by and sees Sergeant
Barnes with a pistol to a young girls head and stops him immediately, Elias fights Sergeant
Barnes in order to call off the order of killing the whole village. Another scene would be after the
squad was done setting fire to the village, some of the soldiers took little girls to a little spot and
were getting

The Impact Of Eu Liberalisation Policy On The Uk Energy...
This essay will detail the impact of EU liberalisation policy on the UK energy industry and relate
this to a previous sample of a group of suppliers. This essay will discuss industry supplier
concentration, oligopoly and monopolistic competition, the EU competition commission and
potential single markets which are not yet subject to scrutiny by the competition commission.
Industry supplier concentration measures how many suppliers there are in a certain industry. The
amount of firms in an industry will affect whether the firms are involved in an oligopoly, a
monopolistic market or a perfectly competitive market. Concentration ratios can be used to measure
how concentrated a certain industry is. The most common concentration ratio used is the four firm
concentration ratio which measures the output of the 4 largest firms in the market and gives that as
a ratio of the overall industry sales. Another method of measuring concentration within an industry
is by using the Herfindahl Hirschman Index (HHI).This measurement is calculated by determining
the market share of each firm, squaring each number then adding them together. If the number that
is calculated is below 1000 it is considered to be of a low concentration and if it is above 1800 it is
considered highly concentrated, however it can be between 0 (perfect competition) and 10,000
(pure monopoly). (MICROECONOMICS 2007)
In the sample, the suppliers will be measured by a HHI as to show market concentration. It would

Worldview In Philip Pullman s The Golden Compass
Whether writers know it or not, their worldview seeps into their writing. An author s worldview
in his writing is similar to the way many people talk. They discuss their opinions openly. People
do not tend to hide their opinions, and they are proud of them and stand behind them. Authors
write their opinions in their books. The Golden Compass was written by Philip Pullman. His
books were written with a humanistic morality theme in mind rather than God s sovereignty and
knowledge. Pullman was an atheist, and his humanistic worldview was all through his books. He
disliked C.S. Lewis Christian allegories in Narnia. Michael Ward claims that Pullman evidently
cannot abide Lewis s religious worldview and is determined to provide the book buying public
with a story which contradicts it in all its essential points. J. R. R. Tolkien, another... Show more

Revelation 1:7 says Look, he is coming with the clouds, [a] and every eye will see him even

Amen. This verse clearly states that Jesus will return. Undoubtedly, Jesus was a source of life
and hope for the disciples. He used miracles to save hundreds of people s lives. Although Jesus
did not use a magic wand, He taught His disciples and healed cripples and lepers. Tolkien clearly
meant Gandalf to be a type of Christ. Gandalf s and Jesus s followers heavily relied upon their
leadership and protection. In the Bible, the Last Supper is reverently mentioned in all four of
the Gospels. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John all record the Last Supper as the last meal that the
disciples shared with Christ. In Matthew 26:21 Jesus says, I tell you the truth, one of you will

Heroin: History, Societal Impact and Next Steps
Heroin is processed from the poppy plant. The Opium poppy had been cultivated and marketed for
thousands of years. It was used first in religious ceremonies and for early medicinal purposes but at
that time it was not synthesized as heroin. Heroin was originally produced in a chemist lab back in
1874 by C. R. Alder Wright.1 At that time the production of heroin was in response to the demand
for the need of a non addictive pain killer. The substance was produced but sat dormant for a
number of years. It was not until several years later that heroin was marketed by the German

  • 2. Tituba s Guilt In The Crucible By Arthur Miller In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, Tituba was a very repressed woman. Due to this repression, when Tituba had the chance to air out her grievances, she did. She was like a dog let of her leash. However, her confession started an avalanche of false, mean spirited accusations from the other girls present. Though Tituba was pushed to confess, the onset of the Salem Witch Trials was completely her fault. When it came to voodoo, Tituba was like the mother duck. Abigail and the others all toddled after her like ducklings, asking her to conjure and work her voodoo magic. Due to this, Tituba had planted the seed that would blossom into the Salem Witch Trials. Arthur Miller wrote, You beg me to conjure Abby! She beg me make charm (Miller). If she hadn t... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Like a dog eager to please her master, she eventually broke under the beatings, confessing to a crime she didn t commit. Even though some might say she wasn t completely at fault since she would ve been hanged for not confessing, her false confession was the straw that broke the camel s back. Tituba had sobbed out, Oh, how many times he bid me kill you, mister Parris (Miller)! Her own repressed bitterness and hatred for Parris clearly beat out her desire to maintain her innocence. Her own selfish reasons for confessing made her responsible for what happened afterward. It was also these bitter feelings that probably bolstered the girls into making their own accusations. There were many people accused. Most, if not all, were accused out of spite. In the article, it states, The trials resulted in the executions of twenty people, fourteen of them women, and all but one by hanging (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salem_witch_trials). The girls probably wouldn t have had the confidence to make accusations, but after hearing Tituba s emotional confession, they jumped on it like rabid animals. Tituba s confession the pebble that started the avalanche of wild accusations. Tituba was completely responsible for the onset of the Salem Witch ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Prescription Health Care Essay The cost of prescription drugs in America has risen to the level that most Americans could not afford them with out the help of an insurance plan. The greedy and capitalistic pharmaceutical companies rely on the United States to fund the future development of drugs with skyrocketing prices and enormous margins. Recently the issue has extended into the mainstream political arena, thanks in part to the new Medicare bill(2). With the push by congress for the importation of drugs from foreign sources, regardless of the potential long and short term consequences, the time to vocally support health care reform is upon the American public. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates every substance intended for human consumption, with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this situation the drugs were originally manufactured in the United States or an FDA approved facility. The danger to the end user or patient is simply not knowing where the drugs came from to begin with. This is where the FDA feels the patient could ingest either weak, over potent or counterfeit drugs with potentially deadly side effects. Many on line Canadian pharmacies have actual drugs imported from U.S. sources and some do not. As long as the consumer can find a reputable and licensed Canadian pharmacy that has a strong Internet presence there is no real danger of impure or counterfeit drugs(2). Several top FDA officials have testified to Congress regarding the importation of drugs from foreign sources. Their conclusion has been consistently, the burden this would place on the director of the FDA would be unfair(4). The Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CIDER) has attempted to evaluate the potential for regulation of such drugs, with the conclusion that regulation would be extremely costly and nearly impossible. The main reason the task would be difficult would be the need to test every pill, vial, or suppository that entered the United States. Since the drug is generally destroyed in the process the consumer would never receive their prescription. The position of the FDA is, and should be to protect the American public. However during my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Such frustration is evident in the actions of Linda Loman, from Death of a Salesman, who is a complicated and seemingly invisible housewife who must deal with her husband s childlike behavior as he falls deeper into his mental illness. Linda s devotion, care, and loyalty to Willy and her sons is not enough as he still treats her terribly by emotionally abusing her and verbally dismissing her, and her sons abandon her due to the resentment they harbor towards their father. Biff travels the country looking for work on ranches and steals for no other reason than because he wants to; however, Linda manipulates Biff with the fate of his father. Linda states Biff, I swear to God! Biff, his life is in your hands! (Miller 60), using the fate of her husband s life to manipulate her rogue son into conforming to societal ideals and into joining the business world despite his wishes not to. As for symbolism, both the films use different techniques with symbols that create and reveal more than what is being shown to the audience. For example, in A Bronx Tale, music is the key symbol for everything. Such as the bus scene when Calogero is talking to his father, who is driving the bus, and can t help but stare into Jane s eyes. Before Calogero sees her, upbeat jazz is playing from his father s radio; yet as soon as Calogero sees Jane, the music begins to slow down and make the scene more than what it appears to be. He got the chance to listen to four of Humphry Davy s (one of the most famous chemist of that time) lectures. Faraday got the chance to do experiments for the Royal Institution as well as creating some of his own. He gave his first lecture ever in 1816 on the properties of matter and published his first academic paper on the analysis of calcium hydroxide. In 1820, Michael submitted two papers to the Royal Institution. The first was about magnets and their electric current; he found that magnets exert a force on a wire carrying electric current. The second paper was on how to liquefy chlorine and isolate benzene, which has become a fundamental component of organic chemistry. In 1821, he was promoted to be the Superintendent of House and Laboratory of the Royal Institution and published his work on electromagnetic rotation, which contributed to the electric motor in the future. He found that liquid mercury was a good conductor of electricity and metal wires in the mercury will continue to rotate around a central magnet as long as there is an electric current flowing through the circuit. It destroyed most of Europe and destroyed four empires while also creating many new nations. It triggered the Russian Revolution and set the bases for Balkan Middle Eastern conflicts that remain unresolved. World War Iwas the war fought mainly in Europe and the Middle East, between the Central Powers and the Allies. World War I occurred on July 28, 1914 and ended on November 11, 1918, with the collapse of the Central Powers. Armoured vehicles of World War I were not good as fighting machines. Able carry greater bomb loads over far longer distances than early aeroplanes, they were soon employed by the Germans to carry the war to Britain itself. Most aggressive nations used airships mainly for exploration and observation missions, but today it is the attack of the German Zeppelins that are best remembered. In the days leading up to World War I, when aeroplane flight had been possible for only 10 years, there existed a large body of opinion that the future of military flying lay as much with lighter aircraft. The career of Peter Strasser parallels the story of the German airship service. Promoted Leader of Airships in 1913, he led the first strategic bombing campaign in history. The defences eventually mastered the Zeppelin threat, but as Germany s defeat loomed near in August 1918 Strasser led another raid. His chosen craft the powerful Zeppelin built. We were told during the first class period that employment of accountants is growing 22% from 2008 to 2018. Goes to show that Accounting is something that everyone needs, and is the backbone of business. Throughout this semester we have been fortunate enough to have speakers from multiple accounting professions come talk to us about their professionand what it entails. Tony Batman stood out to me because he shed a different light on the accounting profession and business in general. Common perception is that people get into business just to make money. Mr. Batman said something that will stick with me throughout my entire career that is contrary to the notion of businesses being around solely for profit. He said that the primary purpose of business is to make people s lives better . I had never thought of business that way, I had always perceived it as providing a service for customers but you are actually making their lives better while providing that service. In this essay I will discuss how things I learned in this class helped guide my future career choice. The first big question on deciding a career in accounting that was brought up was Public Accounting vs. Private Accounting. We discussed that Public Accountants were more of service providers to clients; this could include audit, tax, and advisory service roles that the company provides to their employers. • 13. The Importance Of Writing In The Colonial Language Additionally, it can be used to communicate with other indigenous people who speak different languages, but understand the same issues of colonialism. In the specific case of some African states, such as Achebe s Nigeria, the English language became the lingua franca of the national bourgeoisie representative of the various national ethnicities, on the one hand, and the forces of colonialismand transnational capital, on the other. Indeed, postcolonial literature in the colonial language is a double edged sword. Without its use, the writing may never reach a wide audience, as it is impossible to translate every work into each different indigenous language. Furthermore, those who have experienced a diaspora after colonization, such as the Africans who were transported to colonial lands, lost their indigenous language. Their ancestors grew up with the colonial language, and unless they learn their indigenous language, they have no choice to write in the colonial language. Yet, writing in the colonial language furthermore reflects the power that colonists still exert today, that their language must be used to describe the aftereffects of their subjugation of another country. The colonial language becomes culturally more powerful, devaluing the native language as it is brought into its domain, domesticated, and accommodated. Ultimately, the writers must take into consideration the positives and negatives of each approach. They have the choice to write in either language, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. The San Francisco Earthquake By Jerome Clark Rajdeep Singh Men lost their reason at these awful moments ( The San Francisco Earthquake, 1906 4). This was said by Jerome Clark, a survivor of San Francisco s deadliest earthquake in history. In this single sentence, he described the entire disaster through his own eyes ( The San Francisco Earthquake, 1906 4). The Great San Francisco Earthquake may be studied by examining the earthquake, the fire, and the aftermath of the disaster. The night before the earthquake was almost like any other night in the bristling city of San Francisco. The world famous opera singer, Enrico Caruso, was performing at the city s Grand Opera House. The music and singing filled the building with harmonious notes. Caruso s voice was like thunder, and it seemed to shake the Opera House. Little did the spectators know that the earthquake to come in a matter of hours would not only shake, but destroy San Francisco s Opera House (Montagne 1). On April 18, 1906 at 5:12 AM, the citizens of San Francisco were awakened by intense shaking. The earthquake lasted from forty to sixty seconds, with a small fore shock that arrived 20 seconds earlier. It is difficult for scientists to estimate the intensity of this earthquake because of the early and inaccurate equipment from the turn of the century. With today s modern equipment, seismologists have estimated the earthquake to be a 7.7 to 8.3 on the Richter scale. This single quake ruptured 290 miles along California s San Andreas fault line ... Essay on Lady Macbeth Discuss whether or not you feel sympathy for Lady Macbeth There are certain aspects of Lady Macbeth s character that suggests she is good and therefore her downfall increases my sympathy for her by the end of act 5. But I would also argue that she entailed evil to fuel her sleeping ambition that would make her nemesis, her mental collapse, fully justified. Lady Macbeth s role as a supporting wife at the start of the play exceeds the duties of a normal wife. She is the Eve to Macbeth s Adam and is tempted. Although I have expressed unsympathetic views about Lady Macbeth, I do feel that a certain amount of sympathy arises from Act 5 Scene 1, which tends to hide her previous evil deeds. Lady Macbeth has not been seen by the audience for some time, this is because Macbeth has shut her out of his life and she has become isolated and lonely. Lady Macbeth s mental collapse is caused by her acknowledgement of her share of guilt and is expressed by images of Duncan s blood, ...will these hands ne er be clean?... This is also a contrast to her belief that water cleanses the conscience of any guilt. Lady Macbeth s mental collapse reinforces the idea of Scotland being diseased under Macbeth s reign and because he was not put their by divine right he cannot cure her. Lady Macbeth s role as a supporting wife resurfaces again in scene 5. She is now afraid of the dark, which is in contrasts to her earlier wishes for darkness to conceal the murder. Lady Macbeth is haunted by dreams, like Macbeth ( ...O full of scorpions is in my mind... ), and sleep walks; this echoes my last sentence in that she is now taking on the trauma and guilt from her husband. This reveals Lady Macbeth s compassion and love for her husband ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Likewise, when any single piece of free world fails, then by extension, it can be reasoned that the United States has failed in its leadership. When I say the United States is ill prepared for cyberwarfare, I am not only speaking solely to attack directly against our nation alone. I am also referring to our standing as leader of the free world, which no doubt is weakened any time one piece of the free world is weakened or vulnerable to threat exposure. By using the term ill prepared, I aim to convey that the United States is not equipped with enough protection to prevent every possible instance of the threat of cyberwarfare from occurring. William Woolf s The Lighthouse Woolf s To the Lighthouse is written in a Modernist style, is very philosophical, does not have a traditional casual plot, and focuses on the exploration of the mind. Woolf uses experimental techniques, such as writing as a stream of consciousness in order to present the experience, subconscious minds, and the conscious thoughts of characters. The sense of a clear authorial narrator is missing as Woolf describes the minds of her characters in poetic images and her free flowing style allows Woolf to flit between different characters minds and examine experience through various shifting perspectives. As Julian Hanna wrote, The inward turn or exploration of the psyche often said to characterize modernist literature is difficult to imagine without Freud . Woolf seems uninterested in the external influences that occur during the period of the novel, and passes over significant events such as World War One, and the marriage and deaths of her characters, effectively capturing these within 10 concise chapters. The novel does not progress on a what happens next basis, but progresses by following the continual activity of characters consciousness and impressions, moving forward by a series of scenes arranged according to a sequence of several particular moments of consciousness. Writing in this style allows Woolf to convey her characters using very little physical description, so we are left to interpret them through the thoughts and opinions of other characters. Therefore it is hard for the reader to interpret because it is unclear whose perspective the opinion is from, and we do not know if they are reliable. The ketone bodies used for energy are acetoacetate and beta hydroxybutyrate, with that, the levels of ketone bodies are regulated mainly by glucagon and insulin (p.156). Most cells can then be used by both glucose and ketone bodies for fuel, and during ketosis, free fatty acids and glucose synthesis fuel the rest. According to Mark Sisson (2009), longer term ketosis can result from fasting or staying on a low carbohydrate diet, and ketosis that s deliberately induced serves as a medical intervention for epilepsy. In glycolysis, higher levels of insulin block release of fat from adipose tissues and promote storage of body fat, while the body is in ketosis, fat reserves are continually released and consumed as energy (Sisson, 2009, p.47). This is why ketosis is referred to as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The media might show tall people as clumsy because their naturally slower than short people because of bone structure or a number of other factors. This is untrue, as some people are genetically predisposed to being tall, and as such can take advantage of it by participating in activities that favor height, such as basketball. Some people develop body hair slower than others, and the media might portray that as something to be ridiculed, but everybody is different and the body works in different ways. Some people s family history will determine how young or how old their body matures, and understanding this will be beneficial to the mental healthof an impressionable young adult. Sometimes the media might show middle aged people as having a mid life crisis or otherwise not being able to cope with getting older. There are many people that go through this, but there are also people that are fine with it and eating right and exercising will usually help slow the aging process. • 32. The Effects Of Tylenol Products On The Economy According to Lewis (2006), crisis is an interruption from previously normal state of functioning resulting in turmoil, instability, and a significant upheaval to a system (p. 27). In other words, a crisis is a negative predictable or unpredictable event that affects the future trend of individuals, groups, organizations, and government. For instance, pharmaceutical company Johnson and Johnson had an unpredictable crisis in 1982 with its product Tylenol, which was laced with cyanide and led to several murders in Chicago. The events of this crisis could have changed the perception of Tylenol products. Another example of organizational crisis was the predictable 2012 Hurricane Sandy. Although companies of all sizes expected the Hurricane due to the weather forecasting, some areas in New York and New Jersey were affected worse than others. There were businesses that terminated operations for several business days. In addition to Hurricane Sandy being an organizational crisis, it was also a crisis for many families that lost power in their homes and a crisis for government departments such as FEMA (Federal Emergency ManagementAgency), and other agencies within local and state governments. Anxiety (or stress) should not be mistaken for a crisis. For instance, a parent being late picking up his/her child from a daycare is not a crisis, it is anxiety that is sometimes manifested with a fast heartbeat, extreme sweating, etc. On the other hand, the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting ... The Role of Infrastructure in Information Assurance and Cyber Security Name: Institution: The Role of Infrastructure in Information Assurance and Cyber Security The attacks on critical infrastructure have become a growing cause of concern for governments and private providers internationally whether caused through cybercriminals pursuing financial gain or by hackers as political acts intended to emasculate governments and companies credibility. The anxiety around these threats is vindicated, as research exhibits that attacks on the critical infrastructure are greater than before in both complexity and prevalence and will endure to develop in the near future. The site management and monitoring have progressed for critical infrastructure facilities as they have become more increasingly connected to the internet. From the 18th century until now for example four philosophers in specific have had similar and contrasting ideas about ethics. Four philosophers that make a great example of this are Immanuel Kant, David Hume, Friedrich Nietzsche and Charlotte Bunch. First off, Kant is an ethical theorist that would be considered a deontologist, which is someone who believes that an action s morality depends on the motive behind it. The other side of the philosophic view are consequentialist, who believe that the consequences of an action are the more defining of the action s morality than the intent or motive behind it. Rational thought is the one thing that separates us from animals and is our biggest tool of being and existence. That being said, being irrational would be going against the very thing that makes humanity human. That act irrationally in Kant s eyes would be to act immorally and to act immorally is bad in itself. So as humans our duty to ourselves and the rest of humanity is to act in a rational, moral fashion. We can achieve that by acting in a way that involves what Kant considers universal law, which would be act in way that if everyone else in the world acted in the same fashion the world would be content and a livable place. One example of this is the cutting in line example, that if everyone cut in line then there would be no lines and everywhere you go you would end up just fighting your way to the front and this type of society is unfeasible to will yourself to live there. In order to understand outsourcing, we first have to define what outsourcing is. Outsourcing can be defined as using an outside company to provide service rather than hiring in house workers. Now we have to determine why businesses need outsourcing. Typically businesses perform their own tasks themselves, but nowadays we find outsourcing becoming a lot more common. Outsourcing can be as simple as hiring another to do one job or as complex as putting businessin abroad countries. So why do business even need outsourcing if they can do the jobs themselves one might ask. The answers it s cheaper and more efficient. It is simple it costs less to bring in these outside companies or workers to complete a task for much cheaper then the company would have to pay it s in house workers. Another reason why outsourcing has also become so popular a business might not be able to do a certain task it s buyer wants. This is where outsourcing can play a factor as well. This essay will discuss industry supplier concentration, oligopoly and monopolistic competition, the EU competition commission and potential single markets which are not yet subject to scrutiny by the competition commission. Industry supplier concentration measures how many suppliers there are in a certain industry. The amount of firms in an industry will affect whether the firms are involved in an oligopoly, a monopolistic market or a perfectly competitive market. Concentration ratios can be used to measure how concentrated a certain industry is. The most common concentration ratio used is the four firm concentration ratio which measures the output of the 4 largest firms in the market and gives that as a ratio of the overall industry sales. Another method of measuring concentration within an industry is by using the Herfindahl Hirschman Index (HHI).This measurement is calculated by determining the market share of each firm, squaring each number then adding them together. If the number that is calculated is below 1000 it is considered to be of a low concentration and if it is above 1800 it is considered highly concentrated, however it can be between 0 (perfect competition) and 10,000 (pure monopoly).
