Analysis Of The Movie Casablanca
Intro
Casablanca, first released on January 23rd, 1943 is undoubtedly one of the masterpieces of
Classical Hollywood film. Written and released in the midst of World War Two it explores
themes such as love, desire and especially sacrifice. Although the love story of the protagonists is
the cause and catalyst for most of the narrative, one would not necessarily associate it with the
conventional Classical Hollywood love story. Rather as a fabula based on the principle of the
importance of sacrifice in order to overcome a common enemy, in this case the Nazis. Casablanca
does indeed contain many of the common characteristics identified with the Classical Hollywood
film. An example being the the way director, Michael Curtiz used a mainly chronologically
ordered narrative structure and the utilisation of a Cause and Effect chain. In this essay I will
looking at the various ways I believe this film does fall into the criteria of a Classical Hollywood
narrative and also how some could perceive that it does not.
From the opening sequence one can establish that Casablanca obeys the elementary principles
used in the Classical Hollywood narrative structure. In the initial minutes of the film the audience
is introduced via a voice over of the various political happenings prior to the films start such as
Hitler s occupation of Europe and the surge of refugees who fled the Nazi s to Casablanca. The use
of narration presents the audience with a simple introduction which the rest of

My Passion For Music
From day to day, I live trying to figure out my purpose of being in this world. No child is born a
mistake irrespective of the circumstances. I was born with a talent, although, yet to be discovered.
A talent is a symbol of who a person really is. When I was younger, my dad put me through music
school hoping that I would learn to play the pianobecause he wished he did when he was my age. I
was not a big fan of playing the piano so I struggled most of the time. My fingers were so stiff and
my instructor would request that I moisturize and massage them to make them more flexible.
However, the underlying issue was my lack of interest and not my un cooperating fingers.
For some, Music is a way to express how they feel. People see through a person with the sound of
music. Since I really had no interest in the piano, I decided to take a look at other instruments.
My passion for music was decreasing as I could not find an instrument that my hands found
pleasure in. A friend of mine said I should try the violin. She described it as a classical instrument
that soothes the soul. The first few weeks I learned how to play the violin, I started to get a hang of
it but as I played I would always dance. It was weird to my classmates but dancing with the sounds
the violin made me so happy.
One s interest typically leads one to one s talent eventually, one step at a time. This is evident from
a popular quote Talent can t be taught, but it can be awakened by Wallace Stegner.

Inside The Mind Of Emily Grierson
Inside The Mind of Emily Grierson
Mental illness is not an uncommon thing to come across when faced with traumatic or
psychologically damaging events. It is a combination of both of these in the case of Emily
Grierson within William Faulkner s short story A Rose for Emily . A strong reliance on her father
due to his strict rule prohibiting her from seeing other men combined with his passing and initially
denial of his death results in Miss Emily being both mentally unstable and completely
disconnected from the world around her. The consequences for the stunted emotional growth of
Miss Emily was that she could not let go of the dead which results in her keeping bodies of the
dead from being taken away from her on two separate occasions, one of which was the product of
her murdering her lover Homer Barron to make sure that he could never leave her. Some critics
believe that all of these events ultimately stem from the initial control that her father had over her,
and how he sheltered her from the world with a strong rule.
Being isolated from the world can cause people to be crippled in a way when it comes to
developing normally on a mental level. There is a certain need for human interaction when it comes
to learning how to properly function in society. In her criticism regarding the unraveling of Miss
Emily entitled A road to destruction and self destruction: the same fate of Emily And Elly ,
Pingping Yang discusses the emotional dependency that Emily had to her father.

Ames Room Essay
The visual perception field is a very old are of study in psychological research. From ancient
Greece to modern day scholars, philospher and psychologists have been studying on visual
perception for centruries. As a result of people studying visual perception for such a lengthy
amount of time, ground breaking researches have been conducted by many observers like Emil
Emmert. In1881 it was found by Emil Emmert that an objects size afterimage seems to vary in
size based on whether it is positioned close or farther away. When near by the object looks small.
And the farther away it gets, the size of the object becomes noticeably larger. It s perceived size is
thought to be fixed on the retina and as it increases the perceived distance is also thought to
increase consecutively. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ames has also restricted the viewers to only observe the room through a peekhole. He also
strategically placed the floors, ceiling and walls by slanting them which manipulated their depth
perception and size constancy. Therefore Ames Room also had an element of suprise. Meanwhile
Emmert s Law did not involved any optical illusions, therefore Emmert regarded the perceived
sizes of the objects in the after image as a reaction of the body to continue psychological function.
According to Emmert s Law the perceptual constancy was thought to happen by multiple depth
perception cues that include; binocular vision, linear perspective and monocular cue. In contrast to
Emmert s Law in Ames Room Illusion there are 2 illusions that take place. By looking through a
peeping whole with one eye, the peephole eliminates all the depth perception cues and causes the
room to appear like a regular cubic room. The other illusion is the fact that objects swtich sizes as
they swap places in the room. This leds all the distance cues to be abolished as

In the event that management s view is one that is pessimistic, the maximin rule would apply.
BioMed would set production at 342 units of production in order to minimize the maximum worst
payoff which is this case, is a loss of $249.
Management should be aware that both of the above options fail to consider any of the good or bad
outcomes.
BioMed management may also consider applying the minimax regret rule. Under this rule,
management would make a decision with the minimum worst potential regret by identifying the
maximum possible potential regret for each decision. In this case, production would be set at 407
units yielding a maximum possible regret of $1,526.
This report provides a clear recommendation for average daily production capacity for the next 12
months. The analysis and various decision rules will assist management to provide a direction that
will enable the best outcome when faced with uncertainty when combined with the risk tolerance.

The First Ever Demonstration Of Artificial Embryo Twinning
Cloning is the process by which a genetically identical copy of an organism has naturally
occurred or been created in a laboratory. A process of cloning can be completed on a wide range
of biological materials, including genes, tissues, cells and entire organisms (Genetics Generation,
2015). The first ever demonstration of artificial embryo twinning was accomplished on a sea urchin
by Hans Adolf Eduard Driesch in 1885 (Oppenheimer, 2016), yet the most significant cloning
example was attained in 1996, where Dolly the sheep , the first mammal clone was created by
somatic cell nuclear transfer by Ian Wilmut and Keith Campbell (University of Utah, 2016). In
2002, the Council of Australian Governments agreed to ban human cloning and other unacceptable
practices and regulate research involving excess assisted reproductive technology embryos. Cloning
was banned in response to community concerns, including ethicality of the uses of human embryos.
Changes to this legislation came into effect in 2007, to allow therapeutic cloning due to the
increase in research from other countries (National Health Medical Research Council Australian
Government, 2015). However, in contrast to humans, animals have always been legally allowed to
be cloned unethically and sold for their meat, as long as the meat complies with the food safety
conditions and regulations of the world (Kelly L., 2005). Cloning is a contentious topic with
multiple ambiguous viewpoints which can be discovered and observed

A Journey Through India in the Book “Interpreter of...
Many of life s fantasies can resemble someone from our past or someone we care about. Every so
often, a reader may come across a story that feels as if the narrator is telling the story through his
or her own life experiences. The story Interpreter of Maladies is a convincing third person limited
omniscient narration by Jhumpa Lahiri, and it shows a diverse use of compelling characters and
symbols, which allow the readers to learn how narrators can use symbols to present their
emotions and characters to show their feeling. The story s three main characters are, a
designated tour guide Mr. Kapasi and Mr. and Mrs. Das, a traveling family. Lahiri emphasizes
many symbols such as Mr. Kapasi s address, a rice puff mix that Mrs. Das carries around, and she
also explains how each character has very different lives.
When the address of Mr. Kapasi flies out of Mrs. Das s bag into the sky, the author reveals Mr.
Kapasi s opinion of their relationship, it would be the beginning of a long term relationship and
maybe even a love interest. He also thought she would write him explaining her feeling to him, She
would write to him, asking about his days interpreting at the doctor s office, and he would respond
eloquently, choosing only the most entertaining anecdotes, ones that would make her laugh out
loud as she read them in her house in New Jersey (455). Mr. Kapasi dreams that Mrs. Das would

Exothersmic And Endothermic Interaction
AlmaOlguin
Period:5
Science Fair Research
In our daily life, we constantly have interactions of chemical reactions, such as endothermic and
exothermic reactions. In general all chemical reactions are important to our society to achieve
certain activities. Some examples are smelting iron, making class, burning fuels, brewing beer,
making wine and cheese, and etc. Most importantly I will be researching what are exothermic and
endothermic reactions and how they can affect our daily life. Chemical reactions is a process when
the reactants convert to products. A reactant is a substance that goes in to a chemical reactionand
undergoes change is a reactant. The final substance of the chemical reaction is the product. A
chemical reaction rearranges the molecular structure of a substance. Substances are either chemical
elements or compounds(Treichel and Kotz). Chemical reactions either result of chemical bonds
forming or breaking. Chemical reactions are distinguished by the following four ways(Shukla). The
first way a chemical reaction is distinguished is the physical state of the reactants and the products
to see if all the substances are in the same physical state or in a different physical state. The two
types of chemical reactions to distinguish the physical state are homogeneous reaction or
heterogeneous reaction. The second way to identify a chemical reaction is the type /nature of the
chemical. Some examples are synthesis reactions,Decomposition reactions,

Unity in Bach s Cantata No.78
Unity in Bach s Cantata No.78
According to Rowell, Musical composition became much longer, and composer were forced to
evolve new means of maintaining unity and continuity over long time spans during the Baroque
period. Therefore, the texture of music became very important. When I look at the musical texutre
of the Cantata No. 78 by J. S. Bach, I realized that this piece was unified very well within a
movement and as a whole piece by many techniques. Some of those techniques were found in the
text, and the others were in the music.
First of all, the text is well organized in terms of its unity. The piece has seven movements.
According to Fuller, The first and last movements adopt the text of an established ... Show more

As a length of piece gets longer, a composer needs to come up with more techniques to maintain
unity. In case of the first movement, which is 144 measures long, Bach uses the technique of
variation over the common bass line. The common bass line is a descending cromatic phrase. At the
beginning of the movement, this phrase is played by the continuo part. After it is repeated twice,
the oboe takes over the phrase. Then, when the voices start singing, they begin with a short
descending cromatic phrase. This descending cromatic phrase is played by different instruments at
different time, and sometimes it disappears, but it always comes back in the music until the end of
the movement. By composing variations over this descending cromatic phrase, Bach keeps the
unity of the longest movement among the whole Cantata No. 78.
At last, the first movement and the last movement have a very strong relationship to keep unity as
a whole piece. One of the two factors is that the melody from the last movement is sung in the
several parts of the first movement. In the first movement, soprano always sings at the end of the
phrase without any repeated word from the text. The melody of the soprano line is always the same
melody as the last movement, and the soprano sing the melody in the same order as it sung in the
last movement. For example, both movements are constructed by eight verses, and the melody of

Negotiation Is Important And Vital Skill Today s Modern...
Introduction: Negotiation is an important and vital skill in today s modern world. In the famous
words of John F. Kennedy, Let us never negotiate out of fear. But let us never fear to negotiate
(Kennedy). Our words hold a great deal of power, and how we use them is important as well.
Through negotiation, common ground can be discovered and uncovered, making strives for a
better future. Negotiation: In our set of lecture notes, there is an entire lecture devoted to
negotiation and the two kinds of negotiation distributive and integrative. Distribute negotiation is
defined as a win or lose negotiation, where sides compete over the distribution of a fixed amount

Both sides must be creative at coming up with things that are good for both of you (Smith). A
website called Entrepreneur discusses the big points to have down before approaching a
negotiation. Preparation is key, and know the party you are negotiating with. Have a strategy,
and know your offer and reasoning behind it. Lastly, go for a win win solution. Your goal
should be to secure a good deal without extracting the last pound of flesh from the other party
(Sanibel). Situation: I live in an apartment with two other ladies, one of which is very messy,
rude, and immature. Truth be told she is not mature enough to be living on her own, however,
somehow she scrapes the money together each month to live here. The situation with my
roommate, Mia, is that she constantly disrespects this apartment and those who live here. She
never locks the front door, she lets dishes pile up in the sink for weeks, and she never cleans up
after cooking until days later. To top it all off, she recently has dropped out of college, so she
now does not have school to concentrate on, leaving her life to be one big party. As of late, I
have been woken up multiple times in the middle of the night because of the high noise of her get
togethers at 4 in the morning. This is only one example of many; needless to say, living with Mia
is a challenge. I have done my best to overlook the issues and to stick to myself. It is becoming
absolutely unbearable living with her, and change must

The Importance Of Discrimination In The Film Industry
the main synonym neither to the discrimination in the industry nor the lack of female
professionals. Discrimination is not only lack of representation of the gender, but in this case
also representation of only a small pool of women specialists (Paydar 5). The same female actors,
directors, producers, writers, etc. are hired repeatedly, mostly those connected to the males at the
top of the hierarchical ladder or having had experience and success with the same studio before
(John 432 437). Existence of female professionals and hiring of a female for a project does not
indicate the overcoming of systemic barriers. The question is not only in the number or percentage
of women involved in the production, but about diversity and equal opportunities. Another
component of initial hiring practices in filmstudios is correlation with law and associations
requirements. Diversity requirement that is standard for the industry usually poses a quota that
allows the employer to hire females or maleminorities. By providing a choice of hiring a male of
color or a female, this provision allows studios to evade anti discriminationlaws (Paydar 8).
Fighting all these exclusions based on sex and discrimination practices is possible mostly by
individual court orders through several claims available to women within US laws (Bureau of
National Affairs). However, there is a limited number of women in any field of the film industry
who would go to court suing multimillion studios that control a

Eagle eyed aficionados of Jones s films may notice a brief appearance by Gerty in the background
of another sequence, a nod to Cinesite s previous work on MOON.
In addition to adding interactive monitors to the interior of a large indoor swimming pool,
Cinesite s environment work included interior shots of a library, a coffee shop and Hackers Hall ,
a seedy indoor market with line upon line of dark market stall type booths filled with screens,
hackers, geeks and dodgy technology based activities. Futuristic matte paintings imagining some

The Goals And Impact Of Japanese Occupation

The occupation was technically overseen by the governmental bodies known as the Supreme

Should Geroge Have Killed Lennie
As people may know, George Milton is accused for the murder of Lennie smalls instantly killing
him in the back of his head. But George is innocent and there was a method to this behind all this
madness. First it must be understood that George had two decisions: To kill Lennie? Or let
Lennie live and take him to trial? Since Lennie was George s best friend whom he took care of
all the time because he was mentally disabled so, obviously George did not want to watch his
friend be tortured and killed in such an inhumane, harsh manner which explains why George
would choose to take the law into his own hands. Of Mice and Men written by John Steinbeck

Another reason George had no other choice was that Lennie was not fully aware of his mental
abilities as he was his physical strengths which often lead to Lennie getting in trouble like his one
one incident that happened in weed before they came to the ranch. Also, aside from Curley s
Wife Lennie has killed other things before such as a mouse that he found, and a puppy on the
ranch so Lennie could be a danger or potential threat to others on the ranch which would make
sense to why George would have simply no other realistic choice but to kill him. Lastly, Lennie
would have been shot regardless. Curley wanted to shoot Lennie but if he were to have shot him
Lennie would have died in fear and that is exactly what George did not want to happen. Csrlson
had also wanted to shoot Lennie and Geroge might have remembered Carlson shooting Candy s
dog and after candy saying I ought to have shot the dog myself . George could have realized that
if he did not shot Lennie himself than he would regret it just like Candy had. Lennie was so big
that he unaware of his strengths and he could have hurt someone else again or he could have put
his own life in jeopardy as well. George killing Lennie was justified because George was Lennie
s best friend and Geroge knew that he Curley was going to kill Lennie anyways. George and

It is this blind loyalty with which Stevens gratifies his employer and unables himself to look
closely at what his employer really thinks or does (symptoms of dignity ). His doctrine states:
It is, in practice, simply not possible to adopt such a critical attitude towards an employer and at
the same time provide good service. It is not simply that one is unlikely to be able to meet the
many demands of service at the higher levels while one s attentions are being diverted by such
matters; more fundamentally, a butler who is forever attempting to formulate his own strong
opinions on his employer s affairs is bound to lack one quality essential in all good professionals:
namely, loyalty. (Ishiguro, 200)
But the loyalty doctrine denies Stevens his own thoughts on, for instance, Darlington s letting go
of the Jewish maids, or whether or not the great guests he has the honor or serving in his capacity
as a great butler are really so great after all.
Stevens detachment ultimately is chilling, for the distance that he believes is a necessary aspect of
dignity, instead distances him even from the fact that this attitude of detachment is not great, but
unhealthy. This sets a butler s dignity above human dignity, he realizes at the end, and human
dignity must always come first: Lord Darlington wasn t bad man...And at least he had the privilege

Arguments Against Male Birth Control
Since 1899, the array of male birth control options had been limited to Vasectomies, abstinence,
withdrawal, or condoms. The method of withdrawal has a low success rate, condoms are seen as
uncomfortable during sex, and vasectomies are too permanent. Withdrawal and abstinence are the
oldest forms of male contraceptives and before female birth controland condoms, the only form of
contraceptive. Vasectimes are effective at stoping sperm form leaving the testical, but the
procedure is done by surgery and is permanent. In contrast to the hundreds of flexible and effective
birth control for women, males options are meager at at best. The ideal birth control for both
genders involves a long lasting contraceptive, minimal to no side effects, and... Show more content

The model for male birth control has been based on previous female birth control models. A study
in Indonesia that employed both Depo Provera, a progestin used as a contraceptive in women, and
one form of testosterone resulted in a zero sperm count (Alexander). The common long term female
birth control, Depo Provera, it s now being used in trials as a form of male contraceptive. Depo
Provera is a combination of synthetic female hormones to create medroxyprogesterone acetate, or
simulate progestin. This tried and true method along with an injection of testosterone leads to males
resulting in zero sperm count. After 2 month of injections, progestin stops the production of sperm
(Hutson). The Progesterone is a female synthetic steroid that is used to thicken the mucus in the
uterus not allowing the sperm to travel to the egg. In men the effect, combined with testosterone,
stops the productions of sperm. Side effects to this method are mood swings, depression, and mild
pain at injection site. The hormones in the injections, override the current hormones that are
producing sperm, and overload the system decreases then eventually stop the production of sperm.
The effective rate is 98 percent, comparable to the Female version of contraceptives (Hudston). The
rate of female birth control effectiveness is 99%. It is easier in the human physiology to keep one

Marriages in Pride and Prejudice In the book Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, the author
begins the novel with a quote about marriage. It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a
single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife . (p.1) Austen alludes to the
fact that in 18th century England, once a man has become wealthy, it is the natural progression
for him to seek out a wife. Likewise, women were aware of the fact that men of high social
position would be in search of a wife, and they knew it was their responsibility to make such a man
ask for their hand in marriage. For women of this era, marriage was the only respectable option for
them to be independent of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(p. 79) Collins and Charlotte Lucas were not the only couple that gained economic stability by
marrying. George Wickham married Lydia Bennet so that all his debts would be wiped out
when Darcy agreed to pay them off if Wickham married Lydia. Wickham also would be paid a
hundred pounds a year by Lydia s father as a dowry payment. In addition, Darcy would pay
Wickham a thousand pounds for the marriage and would pay Wickham s commission, an
ensigncy in the Regulars. This definitely benefited Wickham by providing him with financial
security. One main difference between Charlotte and Collins marriage versus Lydia and Wickham
s is that Lydia was very physically attracted to Wickham and was extremely excited about getting
married. Wickham was drawn to Lydia s immature and fun personality, but married her mostly
because of his debts being paid by Darcy. Charlotte and Collins married because it was a sensible
decision, but they were not attracted to each other. Charlotte actually preferred it when Collins was
away.
Several of the characters in Pride and Prejudice married for lust and beauty. Mr. Bennet captivated
by youth and beauty, had married a woman whose weak understanding and illiberal mind had very
early in their marriage put an end to all real affection for her. Respect, esteem, and confidence had
vanished forever; and all his views of domestic happiness

Earth And Venus Similarities
There are a total of eight known planets in our solar system which consist of four inner and four
outer planets; the four inner planets, Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars, are known as the terrestrial
planets because not only are they the closest to the sun, but they are also Earth like, meaning that
they are similar to Earths composition and structure ( What is a Terrestrial Planet? ). While these
three planets bare close similarities, the planet that closely resembles Earth is Venus. Known as
the Sister Planets, or the Twins, Earth and Venus are said to share close similarities in relation to
their size, mass, density, composition, and distance from the sun ( Venus Compared to Earth
and Venus Information and Facts ). However, as Matt Williams (2016) suggests, while these two
planets may have been very similar early in their existence, just as with most siblings, as time
progressed, they began to change essentially transforming into two distinct, individual planets,
with very little in common. After the creation of the solar system, 4.5 years ago, Venus, just as
Earth, was said to have formed as gravity drew in a whirlwind of dust and gas ( Earth In Depth;
Venus In Depth ). Venus is the second planet from the sun (67,237,910 miles away), and the only
planet said to be named after a female the Roman goddess of love and beauty ( Planet Venus Facts
). On the other hand, as the only planet in the solar system not named after Greek and Roman gods

2007-08 Recession
Causes of 2007 08 recession
The major causes of the great recession of 2007 8 were caused by the first subprime mortgages.
The Federal Reserve s failure to curb the unnecessary loans, taking too much risk, financial firms
acting recklessly, explosive mix of borrowing, missing a full comprehension of the financial
system and fissures in accountability formed the backbone of 2007 8 recessions. Moreover, during
2007 8, many financial institutions lower credit standards to accommodate the large demand for
loans securities with an ill intention to create huge profits to share which greatly became a source
for the economic recession during the 2007 8 err. The international trade imbalances and lax lending

Unemployment
The recession of 2007 8 resulted in the great number of unemployment as illustrated previous by the
DKs curve that suggested an increase in unemployment leads to decreased inflation (Arnold, 2010).
Many people become jobless as the banks and other financial institutions started focusing over
injecting money into the economy. This problem was to be corrected by reducing government
expenditure. By doing so many people lost jobs and employment was greatly reduced.
Decline in the housing market
The recession greatly affected the housing investments as housing slump was set off. The investors
were unable to flip their homes for a quick profit. Also, the adjustable rates of mortgages were
increasing making it hard to get a mortgage.

SOME INVESTIGATIONS ON THE CORROSION OF IRON
I.
Introduction
Metals undergo natural destruction that allows a spontaneous deteriorating reaction where they
return to their original state from where they are obtained upon contact with the surrounding,
particularly when reacted to oxygen. Such phenomenon is known as corrosion (Zumdahl, 1998).
This leads the surface of the materials to rust in due time. Usually, this kind of process is
electrochemical but is sometimes accompanied by mechanical and physical stress that causes the
metal to corrode (Heitz et al, 1992).

Discussion
Metals have become one of the most in demand raw materials man has ever used. Cars, buildings,
bridges, and such a like were built through this kind of resources which contributes to the progress
and development of a community.
However, a great consequence on the economic status is incorporated in this phenomenon. Since
metals undergo corrosion that may result to its inefficiency and inadequateness, billions of dollars
are spent just to prevent its occurrence.
It was observed that there are different factors that contribute to the deterioration of metal,
specifically on iron which is widely used in different industrial establishments. These are the acidity
and basicity of solution where the metal will be immersed or be in contact with, mechanical

Use Of Imagery In All Quiet On The Western Front By Erich...
Imagery is often used to allow the reader to develop a fuller understanding of the plot, characters,
and setting. In Erich Remarque s All Quiet on the Western Front, he uses imagery to help the
reader understand the experience of war. Imagery allows the reader to comprehend Paul s
thoughts and to relate with the other characters. It makes the war realistic and provides a deeper
understanding of the war because it affects all of the senses. Remarque uses imagery to emphasize
the themes of war and to demonstrate the contrasts of war during battles and in the meantime. In
the novel, imagery is used to show the reader how tedious life in the trenches can be, but even
though it may be torture to the soldiers, they spend their time together to make the period between
the battles less exasperating. When the Paul and his comrades are waiting after one of the battles,
he begins to describe how they kill lice because it gives them entertainment when he says,... Show

The diction in the passage exhibits the dying soldier s fear through the dramatic word choice.
Remarque continues to emphasize the fear in the scene through the use of hyperboles and
personification. The soldier s fear is exaggerated because it is powerful enough to move Paul.
Since the soldier is frightened, it magnifies Paul s fear because he is displaced and is unsure
how to return to his trench. After the gurgling ceases, the tone becomes less tense because it is
clear that the man is dying and would not be a threat. Paul realizes that he is the part of the cause
of the suffering and feels guilty. The image creates tension in the mood and fully conveys Paul s
concern and anxiety while he sees this dying man. Yet, Paul still feels a need to help the man
because he notices that the man s eyes are communicating that he wants to live. Remarque s
description of the man s helpless plea emphasizes the horrors of war and the fear of

Leadership Styles And Philosophies Of Leadership Essay
Leadership and You Leaders play a crucial role in the society and organizations, especially with
regards to helping the organization achieve its objectives and purposes. These individuals use
varying approaches to leadership that inform their practices in motivating organizational members
towards the accomplishment of common objectives. Through their practices, leaders not only
influence the behaviors of their followers or subordinates but also help in shaping organizational
culture. The use of different leadershipstyles and philosophies is also attributed to the difference in
concept and practices of the leader. Moreover, leaders can improve their effectiveness through
adopting strategies that address the weaknesses of their leadership approaches since every
leadership style or approach has certain weaknesses.
Definition of Leadership Leadership is a term or concept that means different things to different
people depending on the context of where the leadership practice takes place. As a result, different
people have different definitions of what leadership is, which generates considerable problems in
attempts to effectively define leadership. From a personal perspective, leadership is a means for
talented individuals to influence others towards common objectives through sharing their
knowledge and perspectives (Mielach, 2013). This is probably the most suitable definition of
leadership given that the basis of leadership is to influence others regardless of

The Plan For New Homes
With the economic crash that started in 2007 and continued for a couple years countless men and
woman lost their jobs and homes. Due in part to the ability to over extend themselves they were
maxed out in their credit to debt ratios, struggling just to make ends meet. Thankfully, with the
downfall they experienced, these foreclosure and short sell victims have finally been able to bounce
back. Many today are beginning to enter back into the housing market looking for new homes,
although this time instead of trying to find the max they can afford, they are now more concerned
with the payment they can afford.
These newly educated buyers have learned a few ways to come back stronger than ever and stay
on top thanks to their shortcomings from the past. One of such ways is by a federal program
called The back to work program , which helps out those who lost their homes due to the crash.
This program is federally insured and offers buyers the second chance they need in as little as 12
months after a foreclosure or bankruptcy. The buyermust be able to prove that there was at least a
20% loss in income before the action took place as well. Although many if the victims are afraid to
get back into the game, they are finding more and better ways than ever before.
Another possibility that has become ever increasingly popular is the rent to own option. Rent to
own is really a lease option, which means that the buyer gets the home now and pays monthly rent

Descriptive Essay About Mother s Beach
Mother s Beach holds a dear place in my heart. It is where mothers bring their children knowing

sunscreen for our pale as can be skin, and more beach toys than anyone could ever possibly need;
we were ready to conquer the beach. We said, goodbye to our dad who was making his way out
the door to go to work and started out our 15 minute journey to Mother s Beach on Pacific Coast

What Is The Effect Of Temperature On Reaction Rate
The purpose of this lab is to explore the effects of enzyme concentration, substrate concentration,
temperature, and inhibitors on reaction rate, respectively. To test each of these factors, four
activities were completed. The enzyme from Turnip Extract and the substrate Peroxide were tested.
The turnip extract was tested at the following concentrations: .5ml, 1.0ml, and 2.0ml. Peroxide was
tested at the following concentrations: 0.1ml, 0.2ml, and 0.4ml. In order to understand the effect of
temperature on reaction ratethe following temperatures were tested: 4C, 23C, 37C, and 60C. To
achieve the desired temperatures, an ice bath and water baths were utilized. Lastly, the effect of
the inhibitor Hydroxylamine was tested in the following amounts: 0 drops, 1 drop, and 5 drops.
In the experiment, Guaiacol was used to determine the rate of reaction by the absorbance
measured. When Guaiacol is oxidized it has a brownish color, the presence of the brownish color
indicates Peroxide (substrate of peroxidase) has undergone the reaction and has been reduced to
water. By this, the reaction rate can be determined by the color change or absorbance over time.
For each activity, a spectrophotometer was used to measure the absorbance. After that, the data for
each activity was translated to graph where linear regression was used to analyze the effects. The
results of the enzymeconcentrations on reaction rate are the following: low enzyme concentration

The Book The Outsiders By S. E. Hinton
The book outsiders by S.E Hinton is action packed and breathtaking. The theme leaves off a very
powerful message as well. The author makes me believe that one of the biggest themes would
be, money doesn t make who you are. These are the three quotes that support my decision. My
first quote is when Randy was in the car talking to Ponyboy; Greaser didn t have anything to do
with it. My buddy over there wouldn t of done it. Maybe you would have done the same thing,
maybe a friend of yours wouldn t have. It s the individual ( Hinton 115 ). The reason why I
picked this quote is because, Randy s buddy is a Soc who has a lot of money. When Randy was
saying this he meant that no matter what the social class and how much money someone had they
most likely wouldn t of done it. This means that Ponyboy was really brave and did the right thing
even though he is a greaser. Which is not very common since society has it in people s minds that

What Are America s Gifts To My Generation

The Triumph Of The Eastern Orthodoxy In 726 AD
The triumph of the Eastern Orthodoxy In 726 AD, there was a massive eruption by the Santorini

The eruption of Santorini and the invading Muslims caused the emperor to change Christian
history. Emperor Leo III of Constantinople saw this eruption as a sign that God was angry with

Abraham Lincoln was born in a log cabin in Hardin County on February 12 1809, Kentucky to
Thomas Lincoln and Nancy Hanks Lincoln. Thomas was a strong and determined pioneer who
found a moderate level of prosperity and was well respected in the community. The couple had
two other children: Abraham s older sister Sarah and younger brother Thomas, who died in
infancy. Due to a land dispute, the Lincolns were forced to move from Kentucky to Perry County,
Indiana in 1817, where the family squatted on public land to scrap out a living in a crude shelter,
hunting game and farming a small plot. Thomas was eventually able to buy the land. Law Career
In March, 1830, the family again migrated, this time to Macon County, Illinois. When his father

The Characteristics Of Dilificity In Dubious Battle By Mac...
Diligence and dedication, two qualities that most people would consider quite admirable. In In
Dubious Battle, Mac McLeod radiates both of these traits and although these traits are admirable
as aforementioned, Mac s motives and actions cause some of his better qualities to be overlooked.
For Mac, most of what he does is to benefit his cause and what he is working towards, which is
ultimately a massive strike by thousands of workers on an apple farm. However, there are points
throughout the novelin which we see Mac force others to give up something, possibly even their
life for the cause which is what he deems to be the greater good. We see this when he uses
Anderson s farm, knowing that in all likelihood the farm would be damaged or destroyed one
way or another. Mac exudes a disregard for the well being of others as long as it benefits himself
and his cause, which he knows is bound to fail. He uses this cause as a cover to benefit himself
further making him selfish. Throughout the novel we see Mac continuously disregard the effects
that his actions will have on others. As aforementioned, Mac simply doesn t care that Anderson s
farm will get burned and destroyed at no fault of Mr. Anderson which we see when he tell Doc
Burton that the cause is worth the sacrifice. On top of this he consistently called upon others to
perform dangerous acts and missions, knowing well that there was a good chance they would get
arrested, beaten, or killed. Though Mac does show concern for

Sociology and Social Structure
Social structure is the way society is organized into predictable relationships. There are five
elements when you break down social structure. The first being status. We usually associate
having a status to the amount of influence, wealth and fame. But sociologists use the term status
to refer to any of the full range of socially defined positions within a large group or society, from
the lowest to the highest. Examples of this are being a son or daughter, dental technician or the
president of the United States. Sociologists also see some status to be achieved or ascribed and an
ascribed status is when a person is assigned to it by society without regard for the person s unique
talents or characteristics. But the achieved status comes to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Technology is defines how the society is and it means that its information about how to use the
material resources of the environment to satisfy human needs and desires. The first type of
preindustrial society is the hunting and gathering society, because they rely on whatever foods
and fibers are readily available. Technology is minimal in this society. Later Horticultural societies
used plant seeds and crops rather then subsist on available foods. People become less nomadic and
place more emphasis on the production of tools and household objects. The last stage in the
preindustrial development is the agrarian society. They primarily engage in the production of food.
Technology seems to grow but is still quite basic. A industrial society is a society that depends on
mechanization to produce its goods and services. THey rely on new inventions that facilitate
agricultural and industrial production, and on new sources of energy, such as steam. The
postindustrial society is an economic system that engages primarily in the processing and control of
information. It focused on services rather than manufactured goods. Large numbers of people
become involved in occupations devoted to the teaching, generation, or dissemination of ideas. Two
specific sociologist had there own ideas about modern societies. Emile Durkheim agreed that social

Cultural Themes In The Kite Runner
Khaled Hosseini, the author of the novel The Kite Runner, illustrates a story of a young Afghan
boy who struggles to win his father s approval, but also struggles internally to do what is morally
right and what the society around him has deemed right. This novel combines works of fiction and
as well as historical events to tell the story of how a young boy matures into a man and his journey
for forgiveness and redemption to clear his conscious of the mistakes he made long ago. The author
also includes an abundance of accurate culture aspects that explain the reasoning the behind the
characters actions as well as the themes of the novel to the audience for a more clear understanding.

Kite flying was once banned by the Taliban but today many still kite fight. Traditionally, the
participant in the competition would hand make their kite weeks in advance and glue glass and
other sharp objects to the string of the kite to try to cut the line of a competitors kite( Kite Flying in
Afghanistan ). Many skilled kite flyers know tricks to cut and wrap around other kites to cut their
strings and eliminate them from the competition. Once the last kites string is cut, all of the
competitors run to chase the kite to try to catch it before it hits the ground because whoever
retrieves the final kite is the winner of the competition. In the novel, Hassan runs the kite for
Amir whose kite makes it down to the last two flying. Once Amir cuts his competitors string the
kite goes sailing off and Hasan gladly runs after for him. After Hassan doesn t return with the
kite for some time Amir goes running to find him and help him retrieve it but instead he is met
with a horrible sight in the alley. After horrifically watching his servant being raped Amir turns
his back and runs away and never tries to help Hassan or tell someone that could help him. From
chapter seven, Amir s internal battle to do the right thing and help Hassan or to run from his
fears is seen in his reasoning with himself by saying, from just around the corner, I could hear
Assef s quick, rhythmic grunts. I had one last chance to make a decision. One final opportunity
to decide who I was going to be. I could step into that alley, stand up for Hassan the way he d
stood up for me all those times in the past and accept whatever would happen to me. Or I could
run. In the end, I ran (Hosseini 139). This sequence of events dramatically changes the novel
because what happens at the kite competition is the reason for Amir s quest for redemption at the

An Analysis Of Equality s So Long A Road
Individuality and the strive to achieve happiness through science shown by Equality is

metaphor for the life ahead of Equality is showcased by So long a road lies before us... .
Equality displays his determination to learn when he states ...what care we if we must travel it

individualist approach very different from his brothers way of thinking. The citizens of his

follow the Counsels orders, only going into depth at their request. My visual representation relates
to the quote because the road is drawn to show the literal meaning So long a road... . The grass

What Are The Similarities Between Samuel Johnson And Noah...
The act of composing dictionaries, lexicography, was seen as peculiar; however, men such as
Samuel Johnson and Noah Webster dared to defy such ideologies. Both men had their own reasons
for taking on the daunting challenge of writing a dictionary of the English Language. Their reasons
may greatly differ such as Webster s motivation of strengthening the national identity and Johnson
s reason of standardizing words with his witty definitions. Despite of their different motives for
defining words, Samuel Johnson and Noah Webster s beliefs can cross paths, they both wanted
certain words to be spelled more appropriately. Samuel Johnson was widely known for his
criticism and witty remarks towards a variety of people, which does not exclude himself. Johnson s
dictionaryis filled with facetious definitions that are mocking someone. For instance, his famous
definitionof oats is offensive towards Scottish people. His definition of the word oats is, A grain,
which in England is generally given to horses, but in Scotland appears to support the people. The
way he chose to define the word oats reveals not only that Johnson thought the Scots were hapless
and inferior, but also that Johnson had a critical tone in his dictionary, A Dictionary of the English
Language. Whereas Noah Webster maintain a more respectful and direct tone. In Webster s
Compendious Dictionary of the English language, his definitions do not exhibit any bias.
Illustrations of this are governmental words he

Cultural Identity Development
Before we delve into how culture and society heavily influences our identity, we must consider
what makes a society a society. In a sense, a society is expounded as a group of individuals who
live under a particular ambiance and collaborate in the exchange of words while sharing common
interests and aims amongst each other. The people of today have the fascinating ability to
accumulate unique ideas that could potentially change the world as well as influence others into
how they may think of themselves. I am drawn to the thought that in order for there to be change,
there must be those who are willing to sacrifice. Unfortunately, there are some things that go
sacrificed unwillingly but are condoned by the majority as the norm. The culturethat we hold
behind our identities often becomes distorted by outside factors such as our peers and the world
around us. The moment we are born into this world, we are exposed to new stimuli on a daily
basis. Things like friends and family have a huge influence on one s identity. Humans are naturally
driven by the strong desire of belongingness within our communities and so we look for the
fragments that develop our identities. Individuals seek traits that will make others... Show more

No matter who you are or what environment you live under, the physical or mental aspects of that
particular individual will be greatly affected by the society that they themselves explore every day.
Before we answer this particular question, we must understand just how human identity is
developed, what culture consists of, and then drive towards our conclusion of how culture
influences identity development. For the most part, in order to know what stimulates the growth of
identity development, we must comprehend how identity is developed. Identity development starts
with infants realizing their sense of self which perpetuates throughout childhood and then becomes
the main platform of

Analysis Of Dot s Donut Shop
Despite its location, Dot s Donut Shop was about to get famous. Dot s Donut Shop was built on
the side of a lonely road. The owner and boss of the shop was a strict and mean man named
Mr.Dot. The baker who makes the donuts was a kind and humble person named Raphael. The
cash register was a poor and depressed man named Bob. These three runned the shop. Customers
barely came. Those customers who did come often said that the donuts Raphael made are their
favorite. The shop was open from 5 am to 11pm. It was 10:51. Raphael was beginning to clean up
the kitchen while Bob was cleaning the tables. Hey Bob, want a donut, Raphael asked. Sure, Bob
responded. Raphael handed Bob a donut. Thank you, Raphael, Bob said as he took the delicious and

In time Mr. Dot became super rich and upgraded his shop. He also hired new employees, like
janitors, waiters, and more bakers. But it was never enough. Mr. Dot added more rooms, more
workers, and this brought in more customers. This shop was now a huge building. The only bad
thing was that there were barely any breaks. The shop was open everyday from 5:00 am to 12.00
midnight. On the top floor, Mr. Dot was counting his money in his office. Bob knocked on the
door. What do you want, groaned Mr. Dot. Bob walked into the money filled room. Rolled up
dollars with rubber bands were everywhere. Sir, may I please have a break, Bob pleaded. No, we
have customers that still are waiting for their orders, Mr.Dot snapped. Isn t five hours of rest
enough, Mr.Dot added. Not really, Bob responded. Mr.Dot looked at Bob sternly. It is if your
making money, Mr.Dot yelled. Now get out, Mr.Dot screamed. Bob left the room and started his
way to the cash register.
Months past. Raphael was in the kitchen washing the dishes. The janitor mopped the floor very
recently and was still wet. The janitor was now cleaning next to the oven. An alarm went off. He
saw a masked figure with a bag of money and Mr.Dot running after him. Somebody catch that
burglar. he screamed. The janitor ran to the telephone extremely carefully since he noticed the floor
was wet. Raphael ran to try to catch the burglar but slipped and hit the oven. The oven activated.

A Day Bed With A Mattress Bed
We were rowdy, and we had too much energy to just sit around quietly. My cousins, my brothers,
my sister, and I were all in my grandparents basement, hyped up on sugar cookies and gummy
worms, as our parents talked and played cards upstairs. Rain had kept us inside all day, and we
needed something exciting to do to let off some energy. In my grandparents basement, there was
a day bed with a rollaway mattress underneath. One of the six of us thought that it would be a
good idea to take a mattress and lean it against the daybed to make a slide, and of course we all
jumped on board with this idea. We didn t really think of the consequences. We thought that
because we were in the basement that none of the grown ups upstairs could hear what we were
doing, and we decided advantage of this opportunity. Even I didn t think that it was a bad idea at
the time. Being the oldest, I was usually the one to keep my cousins and siblings out of trouble,
but lately they had been nagging me about being no fun. I was tired of being the bad guy, even
though I d like to believe that my interventions saved us a few trips to the emergency room, so I
let my guard down and decided to create a little chaos for once. Making a slide sounded like the
perfect activity. My brother David, my cousin Sabrina, and I, being the three oldest, dragged the
mattress out from under the bed and propped it up at a steep angle. Then we piled all the pillows,
blankets, and stuffed animals we could find

Disappointment And Disillusionment In A Relationship
It can be distressing when a relationship begins to change. And if one partner begins to re establish
their independence the other may react negatively by becoming overly demanding. It is said that
partners who manage this phase well have a much better chance at developing the skills they
require in order to deal with the challenges of the coming years. And to be honest, that is what
relationships are all about, pushing through minor differences and hard times. Disappointment and
Disillusionment This is the period when your hopes begin to sunk. It s when you start to get the
impression that your feelings may one day disintegrate, never to return. That your partner is

As the months pass by, both of them know what to expect from each other, and you make an
assumption about their partner s commitment towards the relationship. When these opinions and
expectations about your partner differ now and then in real life, it can either leave you thrilled
or depressed. This means that, some might consider these differences as interesting twists to
their relationship while others may see them as potential deal breakers to having their
relationship go forward. For example, if you are a girl, you don t expect your man to buy you
flowers, but he does. You feel ecstatic. At the same time, you assumed that he will pick you up
from the airport on time. But he reaches an hour later because he forgot all about picking you
up. This might upset you. Or maybe, if you are a guy, you would feel thrilled if your girl made
you a surprise dinner one night. But you would feel equally disappointed if they forgot to pick up
some groceries that you might have asked the day before. Small Talks and Testing Topics After
people have already established opinions of each other, one might expect that that is the end of it.
But that s not true. It is in the human nature to keep giving people chances until there are no

Summary Of Parmenide
In just 20 lines in section 11.8 of his poem, Parmenides gives at least three arguments for why
what is is ungenerated. I will present and explain each argument, the first two briefly and the last at
more length because I consider his third argument to be his most comprehensive. Last, I will
address his explanation of why what is is imperishable.
Argument 1.
Any given thing requires a reason to be generated, including what is (supplied)
It makes no sense to say that a reason suddenly existed for what is to be generated (11.8, 9 10)
Therefore what is was not generated (11.8, 11)
This argument takes place in the space of just a few lines, in which Parmenides poses a question
what need would have roused it, later or earlier, to grow, having begun from nothing? (11.8, 9
10). It here refers to what is. He assumes that everything has a reason to be generated some
specific need but he cannot see why this reason would suddenly appear. The phrase later or earlier
might point to how difficult it is to believe that at an arbitrary moment in time what is suddenly had
a reason to spring into existence. If no such need could have appeared, then what is could not have
been generated.
Parmenides applies this argument specifically to what is being generated from what is not, or
having begun from nothing (11.8, 10). And the argument certainly does seem to challenge the
idea of generation from nothing, but I have left it neutral as regards the source of what is in my
reconstruction here. I did this because I believe he can also apply Argument 1 to challenge the
idea of generation from what is, not only from what is not. It should apply to both because the
only way to say that what is is not generated is to show that it is generated from neither what is not,
nor what is. More on this in Argument 3.
Argument 2.
Someone or something must bring any given thing, including what is, into existence (supplied)
No one can make anything come into existence (11.8, 12)
Therefore what is cannot be generated (11.8, 13 14)
This is a difficult argument to suss out, especially since once again it takes place in only three
lines. But he says that the force of conviction cannot make anything come to be out of

Evaluation Of A New Employee
It is important to ensure the new employee receives training before being aloud to input data into
the systems. The new employee will require a combination of side by side training where they
are able to watch, listen and learn. The new employee will also need to know where they can
access this information if they get lost in the process, in some cases this may be found on the
company intranet under user guides. These user guides usually show the process using a
combination of instructions and screen shots to ensure easy to follow directions. During the
training phase it is important to check in with the new employee or have regular coaching
sessions where certain areas of difficulty can be addressed and gone through. It is also important
once the training period has come to an end and your new employee is ready to start capturing
the data that they again have a period of side by side assistance. This would entail watching the
new employee go through the motions of data entry providing guidance when required. One very
good way to ensure consistency is to provide a call flow sheet with each step. The procedure
should provide information about: identify records for capture Identifying records for capture is a
very important as this information is essential for good business where the capture of your
customers information is required for identification purposes and billing purposes. If we do not

Comparison Of The BookThe Stepford Wives And Get Out
Georgios Araujo
Dr. Andy Schopp
ENG_251
17 November 2017
Technology can be our friend or our worst enemy. In Forbes The Stepford Wives and in Peele s
film, Get Out, both directors have a central idea of reconstructing our society for it to best suited
for us, as individuals. Unless you knew going in that both of these movies were in the genre of
Horror, you wouldn t be expecting it, more in The Stepford Wives than in Get Out. However the
interesting part about both of these works is that they both have an oddly similar theory behind
them, and it leads the viewer to believe that The Stepford Wives could have been an inspiration for
Get Out, unless you already knew that after hearing Peele s interview stating that it was. Both of the
works use technology and science in a way that by the end of both works the viewer is shocked, at
least I was.
For some brief background, in Forbes The Stepford Wives, Joanna Eberhardt and her two
children are uprooted from the busy bustling streets of Manhattan to the quiet streets of Stepford.
Where the crime rate is zero and so is the poverty rate, her husband insists this is the best place to
raise a family. But almost immediately, like an instinct, Joanna is uncertain of the women living in
Stepford, she feels as though they are living on a different planet. They are overly obsessed with
keeping a clean house, and pleasing their husbands, all whom are members of the Men s
Association. All of their husbands are executives and very

In recent times, the government has made various attempts to make general aviation viable and to

hitherto uncommon routes in an aim to improve air connectivity.

The Human Struggle In Yasujiro Ozu s Tokyo Story
Generations don t battle, they mostly clash into each other. We see this in our very own lives,
where parents bring up their past and say, If only you knew how good you have it! . This will
forever be somewhat a problem in the past, present, and future of our lives. One generation will
always be underestimated or beyond correct then the other. In Yasujiro Ozu s film Tokyo Story we
see constant clashing of the elderly and the youth. Ozu s message of how the generations have
changed is a way of him defining to us what the human struggle is. Due to the character s actions
in the way they treat each other we can pick up on the struggles that they are having and see the
human struggle in the film. At the start of the film, Ozu shows us two of the main characters of
the film; Shukichi and Tomi. We see them packing their bags to go on a trip. They are going to
see their children whom, they haven t seen in a long while. We can see that Ozu is showing us
that becoming old is one struggle that most humans fear, but of course it must occur in our
lives. When the old slow couple are packing, Shukichi asks Tomi where the inflatable pillow is
and Tomi responds and says that she gave it to him. With aging comes forgetfulness and
stubbornness; and when Tomi says she gave it to him he starts to say no you didn t, you still
have it. Later we see it appear in his bag where he said it wasn t and nothing is said when he finds
it. It is simply brushed away with no argument to follow. Ozu shows

  • 2. Analysis Of The Movie Casablanca Intro Casablanca, first released on January 23rd, 1943 is undoubtedly one of the masterpieces of Classical Hollywood film. Written and released in the midst of World War Two it explores themes such as love, desire and especially sacrifice. Although the love story of the protagonists is the cause and catalyst for most of the narrative, one would not necessarily associate it with the conventional Classical Hollywood love story. Rather as a fabula based on the principle of the importance of sacrifice in order to overcome a common enemy, in this case the Nazis. Casablanca does indeed contain many of the common characteristics identified with the Classical Hollywood film. An example being the the way director, Michael Curtiz used a mainly chronologically ordered narrative structure and the utilisation of a Cause and Effect chain. In this essay I will looking at the various ways I believe this film does fall into the criteria of a Classical Hollywood narrative and also how some could perceive that it does not. From the opening sequence one can establish that Casablanca obeys the elementary principles used in the Classical Hollywood narrative structure. In the initial minutes of the film the audience is introduced via a voice over of the various political happenings prior to the films start such as Hitler s occupation of Europe and the surge of refugees who fled the Nazi s to Casablanca. The use of narration presents the audience with a simple introduction which the rest of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. My Passion For Music From day to day, I live trying to figure out my purpose of being in this world. No child is born a mistake irrespective of the circumstances. I was born with a talent, although, yet to be discovered. A talent is a symbol of who a person really is. When I was younger, my dad put me through music school hoping that I would learn to play the pianobecause he wished he did when he was my age. I was not a big fan of playing the piano so I struggled most of the time. My fingers were so stiff and my instructor would request that I moisturize and massage them to make them more flexible. However, the underlying issue was my lack of interest and not my un cooperating fingers. For some, Music is a way to express how they feel. People see through a person with the sound of music. Since I really had no interest in the piano, I decided to take a look at other instruments. My passion for music was decreasing as I could not find an instrument that my hands found pleasure in. A friend of mine said I should try the violin. She described it as a classical instrument that soothes the soul. The first few weeks I learned how to play the violin, I started to get a hang of it but as I played I would always dance. It was weird to my classmates but dancing with the sounds the violin made me so happy. One s interest typically leads one to one s talent eventually, one step at a time. This is evident from a popular quote Talent can t be taught, but it can be awakened by Wallace Stegner. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Inside The Mind Of Emily Grierson Inside The Mind of Emily Grierson Mental illness is not an uncommon thing to come across when faced with traumatic or psychologically damaging events. It is a combination of both of these in the case of Emily Grierson within William Faulkner s short story A Rose for Emily . A strong reliance on her father due to his strict rule prohibiting her from seeing other men combined with his passing and initially denial of his death results in Miss Emily being both mentally unstable and completely disconnected from the world around her. The consequences for the stunted emotional growth of Miss Emily was that she could not let go of the dead which results in her keeping bodies of the dead from being taken away from her on two separate occasions, one of which was the product of her murdering her lover Homer Barron to make sure that he could never leave her. Some critics believe that all of these events ultimately stem from the initial control that her father had over her, and how he sheltered her from the world with a strong rule. Being isolated from the world can cause people to be crippled in a way when it comes to developing normally on a mental level. There is a certain need for human interaction when it comes to learning how to properly function in society. In her criticism regarding the unraveling of Miss Emily entitled A road to destruction and self destruction: the same fate of Emily And Elly , Pingping Yang discusses the emotional dependency that Emily had to her father. ... • 7. Ames Room Essay The visual perception field is a very old are of study in psychological research. From ancient Greece to modern day scholars, philospher and psychologists have been studying on visual perception for centruries. As a result of people studying visual perception for such a lengthy amount of time, ground breaking researches have been conducted by many observers like Emil Emmert. In1881 it was found by Emil Emmert that an objects size afterimage seems to vary in size based on whether it is positioned close or farther away. When near by the object looks small. And the farther away it gets, the size of the object becomes noticeably larger. It s perceived size is thought to be fixed on the retina and as it increases the perceived distance is also thought to increase consecutively. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ames has also restricted the viewers to only observe the room through a peekhole. He also strategically placed the floors, ceiling and walls by slanting them which manipulated their depth perception and size constancy. Therefore Ames Room also had an element of suprise. Meanwhile Emmert s Law did not involved any optical illusions, therefore Emmert regarded the perceived sizes of the objects in the after image as a reaction of the body to continue psychological function. According to Emmert s Law the perceptual constancy was thought to happen by multiple depth perception cues that include; binocular vision, linear perspective and monocular cue. In contrast to Emmert s Law in Ames Room Illusion there are 2 illusions that take place. By looking through a peeping whole with one eye, the peephole eliminates all the depth perception cues and causes the room to appear like a regular cubic room. The other illusion is the fact that objects swtich sizes as they swap places in the room. This leds all the distance cues to be abolished as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

BioMed would set production at 342 units of production in order to minimize the maximum worst payoff which is this case, is a loss of $249. Management should be aware that both of the above options fail to consider any of the good or bad outcomes. BioMed management may also consider applying the minimax regret rule. Under this rule, management would make a decision with the minimum worst potential regret by identifying the maximum possible potential regret for each decision. In this case, production would be set at 407 units yielding a maximum possible regret of $1,526. This report provides a clear recommendation for average daily production capacity for the next 12 months. • 10. The First Ever Demonstration Of Artificial Embryo Twinning Cloning is the process by which a genetically identical copy of an organism has naturally occurred or been created in a laboratory. A process of cloning can be completed on a wide range of biological materials, including genes, tissues, cells and entire organisms (Genetics Generation, 2015). The first ever demonstration of artificial embryo twinning was accomplished on a sea urchin by Hans Adolf Eduard Driesch in 1885 (Oppenheimer, 2016), yet the most significant cloning example was attained in 1996, where Dolly the sheep , the first mammal clone was created by somatic cell nuclear transfer by Ian Wilmut and Keith Campbell (University of Utah, 2016). In 2002, the Council of Australian Governments agreed to ban human cloning and other unacceptable practices and regulate research involving excess assisted reproductive technology embryos. Cloning was banned in response to community concerns, including ethicality of the uses of human embryos. Changes to this legislation came into effect in 2007, to allow therapeutic cloning due to the increase in research from other countries (National Health Medical Research Council Australian Government, 2015). However, in contrast to humans, animals have always been legally allowed to be cloned unethically and sold for their meat, as long as the meat complies with the food safety conditions and regulations of the world (Kelly L., 2005). Cloning is a contentious topic with multiple ambiguous viewpoints which can be discovered and observed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Every so often, a reader may come across a story that feels as if the narrator is telling the story through his or her own life experiences. The story Interpreter of Maladies is a convincing third person limited omniscient narration by Jhumpa Lahiri, and it shows a diverse use of compelling characters and symbols, which allow the readers to learn how narrators can use symbols to present their emotions and characters to show their feeling. The story s three main characters are, a designated tour guide Mr. Kapasi and Mr. and Mrs. Das, a traveling family. Lahiri emphasizes many symbols such as Mr. Kapasi s address, a rice puff mix that Mrs. Das carries around, and she also explains how each character has very different lives. When the address of Mr. Kapasi flies out of Mrs. Das s bag into the sky, the author reveals Mr. Kapasi s opinion of their relationship, it would be the beginning of a long term relationship and maybe even a love interest. He also thought she would write him explaining her feeling to him, She would write to him, asking about his days interpreting at the doctor s office, and he would respond eloquently, choosing only the most entertaining anecdotes, ones that would make her laugh out loud as she read them in her house in New Jersey (455). • 13. Exothersmic And Endothermic Interaction AlmaOlguin Period:5 Science Fair Research In our daily life, we constantly have interactions of chemical reactions, such as endothermic and exothermic reactions. In general all chemical reactions are important to our society to achieve certain activities. Some examples are smelting iron, making class, burning fuels, brewing beer, making wine and cheese, and etc. Most importantly I will be researching what are exothermic and endothermic reactions and how they can affect our daily life. Chemical reactions is a process when the reactants convert to products. A reactant is a substance that goes in to a chemical reactionand undergoes change is a reactant. The final substance of the chemical reaction is the product. A chemical reaction rearranges the molecular structure of a substance. Substances are either chemical elements or compounds(Treichel and Kotz). Chemical reactions either result of chemical bonds forming or breaking. Chemical reactions are distinguished by the following four ways(Shukla). The first way a chemical reaction is distinguished is the physical state of the reactants and the products to see if all the substances are in the same physical state or in a different physical state. The two types of chemical reactions to distinguish the physical state are homogeneous reaction or heterogeneous reaction. The second way to identify a chemical reaction is the type /nature of the chemical. Some examples are synthesis reactions,Decomposition reactions, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Unity in Bach s Cantata No.78 Unity in Bach s Cantata No.78 According to Rowell, Musical composition became much longer, and composer were forced to evolve new means of maintaining unity and continuity over long time spans during the Baroque period. Therefore, the texture of music became very important. When I look at the musical texutre of the Cantata No. 78 by J. S. Bach, I realized that this piece was unified very well within a movement and as a whole piece by many techniques. Some of those techniques were found in the text, and the others were in the music. First of all, the text is well organized in terms of its unity. The piece has seven movements. According to Fuller, The first and last movements adopt the text of an established ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a length of piece gets longer, a composer needs to come up with more techniques to maintain unity. In case of the first movement, which is 144 measures long, Bach uses the technique of variation over the common bass line. The common bass line is a descending cromatic phrase. At the beginning of the movement, this phrase is played by the continuo part. After it is repeated twice, the oboe takes over the phrase. Then, when the voices start singing, they begin with a short descending cromatic phrase. This descending cromatic phrase is played by different instruments at different time, and sometimes it disappears, but it always comes back in the music until the end of the movement. By composing variations over this descending cromatic phrase, Bach keeps the unity of the longest movement among the whole Cantata No. 78. At last, the first movement and the last movement have a very strong relationship to keep unity as a whole piece. One of the two factors is that the melody from the last movement is sung in the several parts of the first movement. In the first movement, soprano always sings at the end of the phrase without any repeated word from the text. The melody of the soprano line is always the same melody as the last movement, and the soprano sing the melody in the same order as it sung in the last movement. For example, both movements are constructed by eight verses, and the melody of the first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Negotiation Is Important And Vital Skill Today s Modern... Introduction: Negotiation is an important and vital skill in today s modern world. In the famous words of John F. Kennedy, Let us never negotiate out of fear. But let us never fear to negotiate (Kennedy). Our words hold a great deal of power, and how we use them is important as well. Through negotiation, common ground can be discovered and uncovered, making strives for a better future. Negotiation: In our set of lecture notes, there is an entire lecture devoted to negotiation and the two kinds of negotiation distributive and integrative. Distribute negotiation is defined as a win or lose negotiation, where sides compete over the distribution of a fixed amount (Smith). The second sort of negotiation, integrative, is defined as a win... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both sides must be creative at coming up with things that are good for both of you (Smith). A website called Entrepreneur discusses the big points to have down before approaching a negotiation. Preparation is key, and know the party you are negotiating with. Have a strategy, and know your offer and reasoning behind it. Lastly, go for a win win solution. Your goal should be to secure a good deal without extracting the last pound of flesh from the other party (Sanibel). Situation: I live in an apartment with two other ladies, one of which is very messy, rude, and immature. Truth be told she is not mature enough to be living on her own, however, somehow she scrapes the money together each month to live here. The situation with my roommate, Mia, is that she constantly disrespects this apartment and those who live here. She never locks the front door, she lets dishes pile up in the sink for weeks, and she never cleans up after cooking until days later. To top it all off, she recently has dropped out of college, so she now does not have school to concentrate on, leaving her life to be one big party. As of late, I have been woken up multiple times in the middle of the night because of the high noise of her get togethers at 4 in the morning. This is only one example of many; needless to say, living with Mia is a challenge. I have done my best to overlook the issues and to stick to myself. • 16. The Importance Of Discrimination In The Film Industry the main synonym neither to the discrimination in the industry nor the lack of female professionals. Discrimination is not only lack of representation of the gender, but in this case also representation of only a small pool of women specialists (Paydar 5). The same female actors, directors, producers, writers, etc. are hired repeatedly, mostly those connected to the males at the top of the hierarchical ladder or having had experience and success with the same studio before (John 432 437). Existence of female professionals and hiring of a female for a project does not indicate the overcoming of systemic barriers. The question is not only in the number or percentage of women involved in the production, but about diversity and equal opportunities. Another component of initial hiring practices in filmstudios is correlation with law and associations requirements. Diversity requirement that is standard for the industry usually poses a quota that allows the employer to hire females or maleminorities. By providing a choice of hiring a male of color or a female, this provision allows studios to evade anti discriminationlaws (Paydar 8). Fighting all these exclusions based on sex and discrimination practices is possible mostly by individual court orders through several claims available to women within US laws (Bureau of National Affairs). However, there is a limited number of women in any field of the film industry who would go to court suing multimillion studios that control a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Should Geroge Have Killed Lennie As people may know, George Milton is accused for the murder of Lennie smalls instantly killing him in the back of his head. But George is innocent and there was a method to this behind all this madness. First it must be understood that George had two decisions: To kill Lennie? Or let Lennie live and take him to trial? Since Lennie was George s best friend whom he took care of all the time because he was mentally disabled so, obviously George did not want to watch his friend be tortured and killed in such an inhumane, harsh manner which explains why George would choose to take the law into his own hands. Of Mice and Men written by John Steinbeck explains the story of two best friend s George Milton a small guy, and Lennie Smalls a big... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another reason George had no other choice was that Lennie was not fully aware of his mental abilities as he was his physical strengths which often lead to Lennie getting in trouble like his one one incident that happened in weed before they came to the ranch. Also, aside from Curley s Wife Lennie has killed other things before such as a mouse that he found, and a puppy on the ranch so Lennie could be a danger or potential threat to others on the ranch which would make sense to why George would have simply no other realistic choice but to kill him. Lastly, Lennie would have been shot regardless. Curley wanted to shoot Lennie but if he were to have shot him Lennie would have died in fear and that is exactly what George did not want to happen. Csrlson had also wanted to shoot Lennie and Geroge might have remembered Carlson shooting Candy s dog and after candy saying I ought to have shot the dog myself . George could have realized that if he did not shot Lennie himself than he would regret it just like Candy had. Lennie was so big that he unaware of his strengths and he could have hurt someone else again or he could have put his own life in jeopardy as well. Perhaps, then, there is something to his advice that I should cease looking back so much, that I should adopt a more positive outlook and try to make the best of what remains of my day. After all, what can we ever gain in forever looking back and blaming ourselves if our lives have not turned out quite as we might have wished? The hard reality is, surely, that for the likes of you and I, there is little choice other than to leave our fate, ultimately, in the hands of those great gentlemen at the hub of this world who employ our services. It is this blind loyalty with which Stevens gratifies his employer and unables himself to look closely at what his employer really thinks or does (symptoms of dignity ). His doctrine states: It is, in practice, simply not possible to adopt such a critical attitude towards an employer and at the same time provide good service. It is not simply that one is unlikely to be able to meet the many demands of service at the higher levels while one s attentions are being diverted by such matters; more fundamentally, a butler who is forever attempting to formulate his own strong opinions on his employer s affairs is bound to lack one quality essential in all good professionals: namely, loyalty. (Ishiguro, 200) But the loyalty doctrine denies Stevens his own thoughts on, for instance, Darlington s letting go of the Jewish maids, or whether or not the great guests he has the honor or serving in his capacity as a great butler are really so great after all. Stevens detachment ultimately is chilling, for the distance that he believes is a necessary aspect of dignity, instead distances him even from the fact that this attitude of detachment is not great, but unhealthy. This sets a butler s dignity above human dignity, he realizes at the end, and human dignity must always come first: Lord Darlington wasn t bad man...And at least he had the privilege of being able to say at the end of his life that he made his own mistakes...He chose a ... It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife . (p.1) Austen alludes to the fact that in 18th century England, once a man has become wealthy, it is the natural progression for him to seek out a wife. In addition, Darcy would pay Wickham a thousand pounds for the marriage and would pay Wickham s commission, an ensigncy in the Regulars. Earth And Venus Similarities There are a total of eight known planets in our solar system which consist of four inner and four outer planets; the four inner planets, Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars, are known as the terrestrial planets because not only are they the closest to the sun, but they are also Earth like, meaning that they are similar to Earths composition and structure ( What is a Terrestrial Planet? ). While these three planets bare close similarities, the planet that closely resembles Earth is Venus. Known as the Sister Planets, or the Twins, Earth and Venus are said to share close similarities in relation to their size, mass, density, composition, and distance from the sun ( Venus Compared to Earth and Venus Information and Facts ). However, as Matt Williams (2016) suggests, while these two planets may have been very similar early in their existence, just as with most siblings, as time progressed, they began to change essentially transforming into two distinct, individual planets, with very little in common. After the creation of the solar system, 4.5 years ago, Venus, just as Earth, was said to have formed as gravity drew in a whirlwind of dust and gas ( Earth In Depth; Venus In Depth ). Venus is the second planet from the sun (67,237,910 miles away), and the only planet said to be named after a female the Roman goddess of love and beauty ( Planet Venus Facts ). Such phenomenon is known as corrosion (Zumdahl, 1998). This leads the surface of the materials to rust in due time. In Erich Remarque s All Quiet on the Western Front, he uses imagery to help the reader understand the experience of war. Imagery allows the reader to comprehend Paul s thoughts and to relate with the other characters. It makes the war realistic and provides a deeper understanding of the war because it affects all of the senses. Remarque uses imagery to emphasize the themes of war and to demonstrate the contrasts of war during battles and in the meantime. In the novel, imagery is used to show the reader how tedious life in the trenches can be, but even though it may be torture to the soldiers, they spend their time together to make the period between the battles less exasperating. After the gurgling ceases, the tone becomes less tense because it is clear that the man is dying and would not be a threat. Paul realizes that he is the part of the cause of the suffering and feels guilty. The image creates tension in the mood and fully conveys Paul s concern and anxiety while he sees this dying man. What Is The Effect Of Temperature On Reaction Rate The purpose of this lab is to explore the effects of enzyme concentration, substrate concentration, temperature, and inhibitors on reaction rate, respectively. To test each of these factors, four activities were completed. The enzyme from Turnip Extract and the substrate Peroxide were tested. The turnip extract was tested at the following concentrations: .5ml, 1.0ml, and 2.0ml. Peroxide was tested at the following concentrations: 0.1ml, 0.2ml, and 0.4ml. In order to understand the effect of temperature on reaction ratethe following temperatures were tested: 4C, 23C, 37C, and 60C. To achieve the desired temperatures, an ice bath and water baths were utilized. Lastly, the effect of the inhibitor Hydroxylamine was tested in the following amounts: 0 drops, 1 drop, and 5 drops. In the experiment, Guaiacol was used to determine the rate of reaction by the absorbance measured. When Guaiacol is oxidized it has a brownish color, the presence of the brownish color indicates Peroxide (substrate of peroxidase) has undergone the reaction and has been reduced to water. By this, the reaction rate can be determined by the color change or absorbance over time. For each activity, a spectrophotometer was used to measure the absorbance. After that, the data for each activity was translated to graph where linear regression was used to analyze the effects. We omit the gory details from history, that actual ones that brought us home, home to a new nation. America sometimes fails to realize that in order to be united, it is acceptable to mess up, as long as we are determined to learn from it. The Civil War might ve been a mistake, something that never should have happened, because we should have been treating everyone the equally in the first place. America s mistake, the people s mistake, I admit it. But a learning process, all the same. So here we are. The Agean Sea was filled with tsunamis, ash, and volcanic rock that caused the sea to boil. It was the largest eruption Europe had seen in over 2000 years. Right now you re probably wondering how this has anything to do with the subject at hand. This is the story of how an eruption sparked one of the biggest debates in the history of the Eastern Orthodox Church. The eruption of Santorini and the invading Muslims caused the emperor to change Christian history. Emperor Leo III of Constantinople saw this eruption as a sign that God was angry with the empire. Leo was confused by this and wondered why God was angry with him while He continued to allow the Muslims to invade Christian territories. The emperor had a theory that since the Muslims were iconoclastic, which means they were against the images of religious figures such as a painting of Jesus. In In Dubious Battle, Mac McLeod radiates both of these traits and although these traits are admirable as aforementioned, Mac s motives and actions cause some of his better qualities to be overlooked. For Mac, most of what he does is to benefit his cause and what he is working towards, which is ultimately a massive strike by thousands of workers on an apple farm. However, there are points throughout the novelin which we see Mac force others to give up something, possibly even their life for the cause which is what he deems to be the greater good. We see this when he uses Anderson s farm, knowing that in all likelihood the farm would be damaged or destroyed one way or another. Mac exudes a disregard for the well being of others as long as it benefits himself and his cause, which he knows is bound to fail. He uses this cause as a cover to benefit himself further making him selfish. Throughout the novel we see Mac continuously disregard the effects that his actions will have on others. As aforementioned, Mac simply doesn t care that Anderson s farm will get burned and destroyed at no fault of Mr. Anderson which we see when he tell Doc Burton that the cause is worth the sacrifice. On top of this he consistently called upon others to perform dangerous acts and missions, knowing well that there was a good chance they would get arrested, beaten, or killed. The act of composing dictionaries, lexicography, was seen as peculiar; however, men such as Samuel Johnson and Noah Webster dared to defy such ideologies. Both men had their own reasons for taking on the daunting challenge of writing a dictionary of the English Language. Their reasons may greatly differ such as Webster s motivation of strengthening the national identity and Johnson s reason of standardizing words with his witty definitions. Despite of their different motives for defining words, Samuel Johnson and Noah Webster s beliefs can cross paths, they both wanted certain words to be spelled more appropriately. Samuel Johnson was widely known for his criticism and witty remarks towards a variety of people, which does not exclude himself. Johnson s dictionaryis filled with facetious definitions that are mocking someone. For instance, his famous definitionof oats is offensive towards Scottish people. His definition of the word oats is, A grain, which in England is generally given to horses, but in Scotland appears to support the people. The way he chose to define the word oats reveals not only that Johnson thought the Scots were hapless and inferior, but also that Johnson had a critical tone in his dictionary, A Dictionary of the English Language. The people of today have the fascinating ability to accumulate unique ideas that could potentially change the world as well as influence others into how they may think of themselves. I am drawn to the thought that in order for there to be change, there must be those who are willing to sacrifice. Unfortunately, there are some things that go sacrificed unwillingly but are condoned by the majority as the norm. • 52. Summary Of Parmenide In just 20 lines in section 11.8 of his poem, Parmenides gives at least three arguments for why what is is ungenerated. I will present and explain each argument, the first two briefly and the last at more length because I consider his third argument to be his most comprehensive. Last, I will address his explanation of why what is is imperishable. Argument 1. Any given thing requires a reason to be generated, including what is (supplied) It makes no sense to say that a reason suddenly existed for what is to be generated (11.8, 9 10) Therefore what is was not generated (11.8, 11) This argument takes place in the space of just a few lines, in which Parmenides poses a question what need would have roused it, later or earlier, to grow, having begun from nothing? (11.8, 9 10). It here refers to what is. He assumes that everything has a reason to be generated some specific need but he cannot see why this reason would suddenly appear. The phrase later or earlier might point to how difficult it is to believe that at an arbitrary moment in time what is suddenly had a reason to spring into existence. If no such need could have appeared, then what is could not have been generated. Parmenides applies this argument specifically to what is being generated from what is not, or having begun from nothing (11.8, 10). And the argument certainly does seem to challenge the idea of generation from nothing, but I have left it neutral as regards the source of what is in my reconstruction here. I did this because I believe he can also apply Argument 1 to challenge the idea of generation from what is, not only from what is not. It should apply to both because the only way to say that what is is not generated is to show that it is generated from neither what is not, nor what is. More on this in Argument 3. Argument 2. Someone or something must bring any given thing, including what is, into existence (supplied) No one can make anything come into existence (11.8, 12) Therefore what is cannot be generated (11.8, 13 14) This is a difficult argument to suss out, especially since once again it takes place in only three lines.
