I Chose Superman
What has motivated you to pursue higher education?
I have decided to pursue and attain higher education because I am extremely passionate about the
goals and aspirations that I have declared for myself. When I was about 8 years old, I was able to
discern what I wanted to do and what I did not want to do in regards to my career when I grew up. I
was able to narrow it down between two choices: lawyer and Superman; I chose the latter. Overtime
my ideals on what type of law I wanted to specialize in, and what else I wanted to do in my career, has
changed. It has allowed me to come to the consensus that I wanted to start my career in corporate
America and conclude my career by becoming a legal analyst for a prominent Cable News Network

My GPA is not a true reflection of who I am as a student. As an incoming freshman, I began
experiencing challenges in order to attend Catholic High School. I had to wake up every night at 4:30
am and leave home at 5:45 am to begin traveling to school. I was required to catch two buses and a 45
minute train ride to arrive to school by 7:45 am. This travel schedule was in effect until I transferred
mid junior year.
My freshman year, my GPA unweighted average was a 3.2 and I was an honors student. The summer
before entering my sophomore year I participated in the Young Scholars Program at the University of
Maryland and earned 3 college credits along with a 4.0 GPA studying Trial Advocacy.
My sophomore year became particularly hard for me because my mother became ill and we had to
relocate to another home due to financial hardships and my mother is disabled.
During the middle of my junior year, I transferred high schools, became homeless during the
transition, and lived with a family friend until we were asked to leave and we moved into two
transitional hotels during the holiday

Pros And Cons Of High School Uniforms
I went to private school for a very long time, and we always wore uniforms. Then in third grade, I
switched to a public school, so I was so excited to wear what I wanted on the first day. I remember I
chose this orange hoodie with a skirt, and it s so funny when I think about it now because my style
really hasn t changed that much. (Keke Palmer). Fashion is an extension of people. They define who
people are and how they want people to see them. Private school, La Salle Catholic College
Preparatory High School s (LSCCP) dress codes are limiting students to show their true selves and
mold the students into well behaved and well dressed students to create a classy and studious
environment; especially the female students. There are significantly more rules that are set towards
girls than to boys. Although, public school, Mt. Hood Community College s (MHCC) dress codes are
allowing their students to dress how they would like without harsh and specific rules as they dress
themselves everyday. Therefore, LSCCP High School s dress code is more sexist compared to MHCC
s dress code. Private high schools are known to be strict and have a high success rate after graduation.
One of the factors of creating a harsh environment is having strict rules with limitations of what
attending student may and may not wear. Many private high schools require uniforms for their
students to wear, while others allow casual dressing, but with restrictions. At LSCCP High School,
they do not require

The American Civil War Is No Exception
Every war has at least one pivotal point that begs the question, What if this event had happened
differently? The American Civil War is no exception. Many Southerners made claims that the winning
of the Battle of Shiloh could have won the entire war for the Confederacy. Because they lost, however,
debate is still had about who is really to blame for the failure at Shiloh. Many try to pinpoint the blame
to one specific factor whether that be the leadership under General Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard
following General Albert Sidney Johnston s death, the intel that was far below par, or the equipment
the Confederate soldiers had to use. In reality, it was a combination between all these factors that
would seal the Confederates fate. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On April 3, Gen. Johnston mobilized his troops and marched towards Pittsburg Landing where they
arrived on April 6 because of road and whether conditions. At 5:00 AM, Johnston launched a surprise
attack on the unsuspecting Union camps. Because the divisions that had little to no experience were in
the area where the attack was first made, the Confederates quickly broke through many Union lines
successfully and wreaked havoc. They stormed the camps and slaughtered many of these men in their
tents. The Union forces were pushed back at their flanks. One line, however, stood firm against the
Confederate onslaught. General Benjamin M. Prentiss held his line and did not allow the Confederates
to break through while fighting in a sunken road that is estimated to be about 3 feet deep in what is
known as the The Hornet s Nest while waiting for reinforcements.
By the end of the first day of fighting, it seemed clear that the Confederates dominated the North by
inflicting a high number of casualties and had nearly wiped out Grant s entire force. The South
suffered an even more monumental blow that day in the death of General Albert Sidney Johnston.
Johnston was fatally shot in the leg just outside the Hornet s Nest and bled to death shortly thereafter.
As a four star general, he is still the highest ranking officer killed in

History Of The Federal Bureau Of Investigation
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is a crucial part to the government because the agency protects
the nation from crime at the federal level. The Office of the Chief Examiner wanted to create a
branched off agency that investigated national criminals, and criminals who would stay in the state
would be investigated by the county or state agencies. General Bonaparte was assigned to this task. In
1908, ten previous secret service agents were hired to this force. By mid year 1909, the agency had
more than tripled in such a short time period. Attorney General Wickersham, Bonaparte s replacement
after he was gone, renamed the branch to Bureau of Investigation. The number of policemen rose
substantially in the next few years. In World War I, the main operation of the Bureau was to
investigate people refusing to draft, Espionage Act of 1917 violators, and radical immigrants. After J.
Edgar Hoover became director of the Bureau, the Bureau was built stronger to fight against criminals.
This included a fingerprint file, crime lab, and training for new agents. After this the Bureau was

Attorney Client Privilege
The interesting part of the two matters I will be addressing here is that an individual almost has to
know prior to a suit being filed that litigation may occur. Discussions and written matter, all
correspondence, emails and documents exchanged between parties should be prepared with a thought
to potential litigation. Attorney Client Privilege and the Work Product Doctrine are two separate and
distinct issues and should be treated within the legal world as separate disclosures. Attorney Client
Privilege, which originated in Roman and canon law, has evolved into a recognized judicial doctrine
and is necessary in order to provide clients with access to effective, well informed counsel. In Upjohn

Prior to a corporation or its employees taking action, it usually requires an informed legal advice.
Legal direction may be either taken or dismissed; the point is that in order to provide an informed

the legality of a matter and the company may or may not act because of the information provided,
however, the confidentiality of the initial information provided, the attorney s thought process, as well

The Apple Story
The Apple Story
Prepared By: Brian Klochko
Prepared For: Dr. Dov Longu
Submission Date: Monday, February 24th 2014 Once solely regarded as a common handheld fruit,
two unlikely visionaries changed the meaning of Apple forever. The corporate conglomerate that now
manufactures and sells various electronic products such as computers, cell phones, tablets, music
players, and computer accessories was once merely an idea two college dropouts had dreamt in their
own garage. Apple stock currently trades at $544.45 (as of February 14th, 2014), with a net worth

He was right. Although he may have been right, Jobs was fired from Apple in 1985. Without Steve
Jobs, Apple started to trend down, and he rejoined the company in 1997 with a vision to bring it back
to the top. He released a think different ad campaign, featuring pictures of Albert Einstein, John
Lennon, and Thomas Edison that had one goal, to let people know the company still had a pulse. As
copywriter Rob Siltanen said, it got the Apple faithful stirred up, it got the fence sitters back on board,
and it got an audience that was lukewarm on Apple to think about the brand in a whole new way.

summarized by the following: to follow the principles of human engineering to build friendly products
whose simplicity and ease of use make them natural extensions of their owners, and to create a

Stress For College Students
Introduction I will be so glad when this semester is over because school is stressing me to the max.

College can be a fun but also stressful time for students. They are focused on making sure they attend
class and get passing grades so they can be successful and hopefully succeed in the next chapter of
their life. Researchers at Columbia University and the University of San Diego conducted a study

In the article students also reported the cramped housing and lack of healthy food choices caused
stress as well. (College Student Report Stress Affects Academic Performance, 2011). The next source
used for the paper was an article that came from New York University and it gave the key facts when
it comes to college student experiencing stress. Some of the key facts included college student
reporting being more stressed out than ever before and stress being the number one impediment to
academic performance and 55% of students, nationally claimed their biggest stressor to be academic
in nature. (Stress, 2009). A survey at Villanova University was conducted for the article and the results
of the survey included 70% of undergraduates experienced stress. Also for one fourth respondents,
stress adversely affected academic performance (Top Impediments to Academic Success) (n.d.). The
purpose of this study is to show how college student stress levels can impact their academic
achievement in a negative way. The relevance this could have to social work is that it could show how
high levels of stress can negatively impact college student s academic performance. The information
found in this study could show social workers that too much stress can be bad especially if a student

The Supernatural Elements In GuigemarAndYonec By Marie...
Marie de France, supposed author of the series of Lais, recounts her stories through short texts, which
are centered on women and their place in the 12th century. There are several supernatural elements
throughout her work, which are mainly and explicitly present in Guigemar and Yonec . This can be
defined as events or things that cannot be explained by nature or science and that are assumed to come
from beyond or to originate from otherworldly forces. It is not however the only narrative device she
has used in her written pieces. It is with the combination of the supernatural with the self propelled
ship or the transformation of the hawk into a knight, and the natural, the symoblisation of the stick and
the rossignol, that Marie de France explores human relations between her characters.
The supernatural in Guigemar is evident right from the start when Guigemar s fate is determined by
his encounter with the talking doe. As all knights from the time, the young man was due for an
adventure in which metaphorically refers to his need to mature, which meant in this case finding love.
As he is confronted to the talking doe, a natural being with supernatural characteristics, he is cursed
and confronted with the dilemma to find love, or to be forced into finding death, De si ke cele te
guarisse Ki suffera pur te amur . His first reaction: De ceo k il ot est esmaiez , proves to the readers
that love is to him a foreign concept. Commencat sei a purpenser En quell tere

place in 1054 CE between the Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches. This event is known as the
Great Schism. The two areas of disagreement that caused the division were: * Who should be leader of
the Christian Church? * The way in which the Trinity was to be understood. Christians in the West
believed that the Pope should be the leader of the Christian Church. This was because he was the

Title: A Case Report of Suspected Malignant Hyperthermia where Patient Survived the Episode.
Abstract; Malignant hyperthermia is rare inherited disorder in our part of world, there are only few
cases reported in literature in India who were suspected of having this condition. Overall incidence of
malignant hyperthermia during general anesthesia is estimated to range from 1: 5,000 to 1: 50,000
100,000 and mortality rate is estimated to be less than 5% in presence of standard care. In India there
is no centre where invitro halothane caffeine contraction test (IVHCT) is performed to confirm
diagnosis in suspected cases. Secondly dantrolene drug of choice for this condition is not freely
available in market in India and is stored only in some hospitals in few major cities. Among the cases
reported of suspected of malignant hyperthermia in India almost 50% have survived the condition

Racial Profiling Complications
Complications Faced in a Partial Society
Throughout history, the issue of racial equality has caused members of ethnic minorities to suffer for
decades. Many people of color have struggled to obtain their civil liberties and achieve social justice
within their community when faced with bigotry and prejudice based on their ethnicity. The United
States, a nation where immigrants make up two tenths of the population, still suffers from this issue
today amongst many ethnic and racial minorities from police officials who practice the idea of racial
profiling when interrogating potential suspects (Kirk). Racial profiling has been intensified since the
September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center and The Pentagon. Arabs, Muslims, and South

However, it may seem that the concept might not exist because it is often referred to the idea of racist
perspectives and judgments. According to retired professional basketball player Charles Barkley, he
mentioned in a CNN interview that we as black people, we have a lot of crooks. We can t just wait
until something threatens or hurts a person of minority. We have to look at ourselves in the mirror and
continues stating that there is a reason that they racially profile us in the way they do. Sometimes it is
wrong, and sometimes it is right (Cobb). Barkley s statement presents the idea that racial profiling is
utilized toward certain racial groups and ethnic minorities through the idea of implicit stereotypes
where groups are categorized based on their qualities and social features. He wants the black
community to understand that they are cast away from other racial groups because of how they are
recognized both physically and stereotypically. The idea of racial profiling is used in certain
circumstances to show that police officials will use their racial insight to identify an individual who
would be suspected of committing illegal acts based on their racial identity or religious background. In
addition, Rudolph Giuliani addressed on a Fox News Sunday interview that the relationship between
police officers and the black community have poor interaction with one another because of the police
department s lack of responsibility to properly train their officers and to diversify the department
(Cobb). However, Giuliani also adds that it is the black community s responsibility to understand the
reason why police officers gather in large groups within their community. Statistics show that African
Americans commit eight times as many murders compared to other racial groups (Cobb). It is
important

Analysis Of Erika Schickel s Magic Hour
Los Angeles, the City of Angels, is filled with various cultures and people from around the world. Los
Angeles is known for many things from our food to the Griffith Observatory or the Hollywood sign.
Los Angeles is often referred to as the melting pot of cultures. Often portrayed in the movies, people
come to Los Angeles to be the next movie star and live a glamorous life filled with over the top
parties, but Another City challenges that idea. Magic Hour shows Los Angeles a not so glamorous side
of LA, but also shows the beauty of Los Angeles. In Another City: Writings From Los Angeles edited
by David L. Ulin, a collection of short stories and poems about Los Angeles, the writers write about
coming to Los Angeles or growing up in LA and how this city shapes the residents identities and how
Los Angeles is seen to outsiders and residents. Magic Hour is about Erika Schickel views on Los
Angeles and how it shapes her and her views on the city, she explores the relationship between herself
and the city.
Magic Hour by Erika Schickel is about Schickel s leaving her old life in New York and moving to Los
Angeles to pursue a career in acting. On a page of Magic Hour, Schickel writes, Lonely, broke,
homesick. I could not remember who I was, who I had been, who I hoped to be (Schickel 65.) Living
in Los Angeles makes the author question who she is and if the life she wants is worth of pursuing.
Schickel s relationship with Los Angeles is not ideal at the beginning.

Aging Is Defined As The Process Of Aging
Aging John Pickett Mind, Brain, and Intelligence Aging Aging is defined as the process of growing
old but there are many different things that take place during the process of ageing that help define
what aging truly is. We will explore the steps and stages of aging from birth to the end of life. Erikson
s stages of adult development gives a timeline of physical and mental aging in which the ability to
resolve crisis plays a huge role in successful development over the life span. The trust vs. mistrust
stage takes place from birth to 12 months when an infant learns to trust the person who is caring for
them. If rejection takes place during this stage the infant may believe that all people are not unreliable
and have problems with trusting throughout the stages that follow the trust and mistrust stage.
However if the infant feels secure the parent or caregiver has laid a great foundation that carries over
throughout the stages that follow the trust and mistrust stage. As we age this very foundation may
become key in how we handle relationships throughout the duration of our lives. (Hill, 2005, p. 25)
The autonomy vs. shame and doubt stage is from about 2 to 3 years old when we feel the need to
become independent through simple tasks such as dressing and feeding ourselves. Many first time
parents delay the need for independence for their children at this age for fear of them hurting
themselves and the child may develop self doubt. Self doubt

As with the importance of selecting a highly qualified principal to help raise test scores and closing
achievement gaps, the selection and support of staff is also critical. Gregory F. Branch, Eric A.
Hanushek, and Steven G. Rivkin s 2013 study School Leaders Matter examined the effectiveness of
many principles leadership and the effect they had on student achievement ratings. A primary channel
through which principals can be expected to improve the quality of education is by raising the quality
of teachers, either by improving the instruction provided by existing teachers or through teacher
transitions that improve the caliber of the school s workforce (Branch, pg.4). A principal must be able
to continually seek out professional development, to research best practices and new educational
theories to support their staff and students. If principals are to close the achievement gap, they must be
willing to inform and instruct their staff on new teaching strategies. Mr. Canada, from his TED talk,

Charles I Assassination
Charles I of England and Scotland Authorizes Sunday Recreations (1633) Charles I of England and
Scotland is the son of James I. He faced criticisms and suspicions due to his more Catholic way of
ruling. He was an Anglican and to the Puritan English people, this was not a good thing. Parliament
and Charles I argued often which caused Charles to shut down parliament for long periods of time.
This later caused a civil war between the two parties. Charles I lost and was executed showing a huge
shift of the people who no longer believed the King was chosen by God. The primary source was first
written by James I who wished to have it read by the clergy in public, but but so strong was the
Puritan opposition to Sunday amusements that he prudently withdrew his command (The Editors of

fifteen years later and forced the clergy to read the text aloud. The clergy were still not open to the

Theo; she is the foundation of the book because she makes both her sons who they are. Although Theo
is a little rebellious and gets a crumb of her attention, he has still turned out to be a reliable brother.
One can notice her passion towards the happiness of Jacob. Jodi Picoult brings Jacob s character and
illness alive, revealing both greatest and poorer qualities of Jacob. The twist to the story exhibits that
Jacob is much more than his ailment and cares for his family. The author glued all the pieces of the
book perfectly. House Rules made my heart beat a little faster when Jacob was suffering in jail and
resorted to inflicting pain on him and made my visage change expression. At the same time, it made
me laugh when Jacob waved his right hand when the judge asked him if he knew what it meant to
waive his rights. A lot of Jacobs s humor is related to the behaviors that are included with Asperger
syndrome. Jacob always quotes song lyrics and lines from movies because it calms and an exit to run
to. It is hilarious how he literally takes situations. Once, Jacob s attorney expresses that if he needs a
sensory break, he should pass a note . Furthermore, Jacob passes a note that says F# (F sharp).
Moreover, another captivating aspect of Jacob is his obsession with forensics. Though it is this
fixation that ultimately gets him in trouble, he provides interesting facts and eleven

Arguments Against The Use Of Methicillin
created a somber atmosphere in the medical community, as many of the advancements in the last
decade seemed to be drawing to a close. However, a new derivative of penicillin called methicillin
was created and introduced to the public in 1959 (Ventola, 2015). Not long after, methicillin resistant
staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) was found in parts of Europe in 1962 and the United States in 1968.
However, an antibiotic called vancomycin was developed to combat the methicillin resistant strain.
Since scientists found it very difficult to induce vancomycin resistance in a research setting, they
found it highly unlikely to develop in a clinical setting. However, they underestimated the resiliency
of bacteria and by the 1980 s, vancomycin and multi drug ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One way that bacteria transfer their DNA is through vertical transfer which is a scientific name for
transferring genetic material from parent to offspring (Dabnua, 2005). Bacteria are capable of
transferring their DNA asexually, meaning that they do not require a partner to produce an offspring,
and this is done through binary fission. The process of binary fission is when bacterial DNA is
replicated and the cell divides into 2 daughter cells that are genetically identical to the parent. Bacteria
containing the antibiotic resistant gene can easily pass this on through binary fission. When conditions
are favorable, such as optimal temperature and nutrients, bacteria can replicate quickly and efficiently,
dividing as fast as every 20 minutes. Another form of DNA transfer is through horizontal transfer.
Horizontal transfer occurs via plasmids through conjugation, transformation and transduction
(Dabnua, 2005). A plasmid is a circular molecule of DNA independent from the bacteria s
chromosomal DNA. It is a double stranded molecule that can replicate independently and normally
only contains genes that may be beneficial to the survival of the bacteria, such as the mecA gene
(Brisse, 2002). Once plasmid replication is complete, it can be transferred from one bacteria to another
through conjugation, transformation and transduction. During the process of conjugation, 2 separate

It has a lot of stereotyping for example, having graffiti on the walls and that drugs are dealt on the
premises. Also it showed that the school had certain types of groups and portrayed that the school had
fights and that they happen very often. In some case the black American and other minority groups
like the Hispanics were the one getting into fight. At the beginning of the clip, a school bell is ringing;
this sets the atmosphere and allows the audience to know that the film is based in a school. The music
played throughout the scenes is a rock/rap song that is fast beat one such song was Guns and Roses
welcome to the jungle, this song give them impression that the school was no longer serving the
purpose for which it was established. The lighting of most of the clips is low lighting. This creates an
inquiry mind kind of atmosphere and could represent that what is going to happen is not going to be a
good aftermath. For example when the two boys are seen throwing objects out of the window it is
brighter than other scenes and that shows the boys think what they are doing is right. The darkness of

From Chernobyl to Fukushima Essay
It s a clear, cool, spring Friday afternoon. All were going about their quotidian business, in offices, on
trains, in rice fields, in stores, in schools, in warehouses, in shrines then, the ground began to shake.
Located at Pacific fault lines, Japanese are accustomed to these shudder and shakes but something was
different on March 11th. Moments later a low rumble from the east came, the Pacific Ocean. People
began to see a ragged white line in the horizon, within minutes a monstrous wall of waves came
sweeping in, clawing across the land destroying everything in its path. If that wasn t enough, a nuclear
accident arose after a power plant was struck. Nightmares within two minutes turned into reality. Only

Albert Einstein quoted, the release of atomic energy has not created a new problem. It has merely
made more urgent the necessity of solving an existing one. (Famous) The human species foolishly has
made the decision to use nuclear power, first used sixty six years ago, also in Japan, when the United
States dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. The power of nuclear energy is beyond our control
therefore should not be used. The art of nuclear power is to boil water with the incredible heat
generated by a nuclear chain reaction. But such temperatures necessitate continuous cooling. Cooling
requires pumps. Pumps require conventional power. These are things regularly go wrong and have
done so in Japan. The problem isn t that another backup generator is needed or that safety rules aren t

Country Music Has Gone Through Many Phases Of Different...
Country music has gone through many phases of different musical styles including the honky tonk
style and more modern pop country style. More recently, mainstream country has continued to define
itself through bringing all these different styles together and relying on each of them. This genre of
music faces issues relating to its original classification as being working class music , being in
opposition to homosexuality and its portrayal and absence of women. Often times I have heard people
say that they prefer all genres of music, except country. Growing up I always listened to country music
due to the fact that my mom and our family friends often listen to it, therefore I never understood why
it unveiled such a negative reaction for most people. Oftentimes I find myself excluding my
enjoyment of country music to others simply to avoid their surprised reactions. While I realize how
people may be closed off to country music because of the labels that have been imposed upon it in
common discourse and media, I often would like to point out that modern country music that is played
on the radio today is often very different from more traditional country music played many years ago,
and is not that much different from pop and rock sounds. These issues of class divide, homosexuality
and the role of women must be looked upon in relation to contemporary country music, which can be
considered a more relevant discussion. From country music s roots stemming from Folk and Blues

Participatory Response
According to Gerrig, participatory response is a process where readers encode the types of mental
contents as they would encode them if they were the participants in the narrative world. Gerrig divides
participatory response in the following seven categories, such as the emotional response, outcome
preference, problem solving instructions, problem solving assertions, self projection, re plotting and
character evaluation. Immersion is a phase called by Victor Nell as lost in a book where reader s mind
merges with the storyline and simulates a fictional world as a temporary escape from reality. As a part
of the emotional response, the reader might feel sorry, sympathetic or even start associating himself
with one of the characters. Reading process provides an environment for a reader that engages him in

the public educational system. He takes the time to show us some of the faces to those numbers to

Guggenheim successfully persuades his audience, first by using the ethos appeal. He does this by
opening his film by explaining that as parent, he also worries and cares for the success of his own
children and is very aware of the degradation of the public education. He is also being fair minded as
he opens up about a previous film he created where he was actually supporting the idea that public
schools worked. Although he held those beliefs up so highly once, he s now changed opinion.

The Stereotypes Of Hinduism And Hinduism
Majority of the religions in the world gets stereotyped because of their abnormal customs, beliefs and
rituals. People judge religion by their narrow knowledge about their rituals and customs because they
are abnormal to them. Majority of the stereotypes are believed to be true because of their lack of
understanding. The consequence of the results is the development of stereotypes that are both negative
and positive. Two major religions of India, Hinduism and Sikhism, are often the targeted audiences of
the stereotyping of the western popular culture.
Originated and practiced primarily by the majorities in India, hinduism is the third largest religion
with more than 900 million followers around the world. Hinduism is very diverse because it is a
polytheistic religion with about 330 million gods and goddesses. Many people believe that they
believe and pray all their gods and goddesses but that is just of of the stereotype. Hinduism is also
labeled as a very catioc religion because of the fact that the religion has so many gods, therefore they

Portrayal Of Happiness In Disney Films
Happiness is not just a feeling; it is a desire that one must have a drive for. As shown in Disney films,
love cannot be compared to reality. In order to have a relationship, the couple must have trust, honesty,
commitment, and most importantly, communication within the relationship. One must accept their
selves before venturing off into the world, looking for love to consider their selves as happy . In
reality, there is no fairy godmother there to make difficult situations disappear/make two people fall in
love with one another. People should care about how love is portrayed in Disney films because their
daughters may expect the same treatment and become emotionally damaged. This issue matters
because no one should be misled by what the media depicts. This topic is significant to culture
because it teaches young ladies to always love their selves first before deciding to love a young man.

The Civil Rights Of The United States Essay
The United states has been called the, Land of The Free since its independence was won from Great
Britain, however, until 1965 Free only applied to a select demographic, white, land owning males. The
most largely discriminated demographic before 1996 and somewhat even so today is the African
American population. In 1619 the first African American slaves were introduced into the colony of
Jamestown, Virginia 1. Then after many years and revolts, in 1831 slavery was finally abolished and
all freed slaves were given 40 acres and a mule to help these newly freed slaves begin their new lives
2. Although this was helpful, many conflicts arose from this new found freedom and the struggle didn
t get any easier. It wasn t until 1965, after the founding of the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), World War II, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr., and
several supreme court cases, that African American finally achieved the right to vote3. Even after
these several legal advancements and many different civil rights movements the playing field, after
many attempts to be leveled out, was still uneven and the day by day struggles continued. Even today,
396 years later, there are still racial bias and inequalities toward the African American community.
While in the past or present changes have been and are being made by either the executive, legislative,
or judicial branch to help African Americans achieve universal freedom and equality, but it is unclear

The Role Of Physicians And Osteopathic Physicians
There are two kinds of physicians that practice in the United States; they are allopathic physicians and
osteopathic physicians. They are very similar in the ways that they both can diagnosis and treat
illnesses and provide preventive care to patients. Both physicians may even practice medicine in
similar ways today, since their training is almost identical to one another. Allopathic and osteopathic
doctors can both prescribe medicine, perform surgery and can practice in specialty areas such as
critical care or emergency medicine (Indiana College, 2007). There are many things that cause people
to want to be a physician, such as helping others, job security and the interest of researching.

Unlike osteopathic they view a person as a diseased or injured body or organ and try to fix that. They
believe that whatever illness the person has can be cured or help relieve symptoms by either surgery or
medication. For example when someone has a headache or is constipated, the physician will order a
medication to be administered to relieve their pain. There have been many helpful procedures that are
used now thanks to allopathic physicians and medicine, such as hip replacement, chemotherapy and
insulin for diabetics. These physicians work best in emergency or acute situations which is referred to
as interventional medicine. Allopathic physicians try to stay away from alternative medicine such as
homeopathy and naturopathy. When tested on their attitudes allopathic doctors tested as more
technical oriented which means that they prefer to use scientific thinking for purposes. Osteopathic
medicine, abbreviated D.O., as defined by Webster as a therapeutic system originally based upon the
premise that manipulation of the muscles and bones to promote structural integrity could restore or
preserve health. Osteopathic medicine was founded by A.T. Still, a medical doctor who believed that
the current medical practices seemed to be doing more harm than good to the patients. He developed a
system of care that would promote the body s ability to heal itself. Osteopathic physicians are trained

Transcendentalist
Transcendentalism and Christianity Have Incompatible Beliefs
Transcendentalism is a group of new ideas in literature, religion, culture, and philosophy that emerged
in the early to middle 19th century (Wikipedia). Transcendentalism first started with Ralph Waldo
Emerson, one of the pioneers of the Transcendentalists, who in his essay Nature , criticized several
things, especially the Unitarian church (Wikipedia). Many other Transcendentalists such as Thomas
Parker, Henry David Thoreau, Amos Bronson Alcott, and James Freeman Clark, along with Emerson,
were critics of their society because they didn t like the fact that people had unthinking conformity

This means that God occupies the first place in their beliefs; therefore, they will never put God and
nature in the same unity as Transcendentalists do. A last incompatible belief about God between
Transcendentalists and Christians is that Transcendentalists believe that human beings can become
like God, that they can grow a resemblance to God (Stanford 2). Christians do not have the same point
of view about that because, for them, God is perfect and the creator of everything, including humans
(Certificate 2). So, logically, there is no way that humans could achieve the perfection of their creator.
The incompatible beliefs about God make the two doctrines even more incompatible because
Transcendentalists don t see God as powerful as Christians do. The last area where the beliefs of
Transcendentalists and Christians are incompatible is about the Bible. The Bible or Holy Scriptures
contains the Old and New Testaments which are the written words of God and Christians believe
strongly in it. They say that it was given by God and contains his knowledge which is the basis of
Christian s theology (Certificate 2). But Transcendentalists don t like the idea of putting theology
between people and God (Gentry). They believe that people can by themselves know more about God
or the truth in general (Lewis). This is incompatible with the Christians beliefs about the truth found in
the Bible. Another reason why Transcendentalist and Christian beliefs about the

The Theme Of Power In The Veldt By Ray Bradbury
Julia Sherman
November 10, 2017
English Pd. 6
The Veldt Thematic Essay When considering reasons for a power or control shift in a relationship
between a parent and child, one of the most common reasons considered is the fact that parents are
giving kids too much too soon. As a parent gives these things, literal objects and figurative things, too
soon, they are actually letting the power in their relationship shift and giving the kids more control. In
The Veldt, the author, Ray Bradbury, emphasizes the theme with dialogue and tone. In the short story,
George and Lydia Hadley, and their two children Peter and Wendy, are living in a smart house, where
almost everything gets done for them. The quote, But I thought we that s why we bought this house,
so we wouldn t have to do anything? shows how little they have to do to have everything nice and
keep a good home. The children have grown up not doing anything; they do not even paint their own
pictures. The children do not do their own laundry, make their own beds, or bathe themselves. Their
lives are so simple, and all they spend their days doing is looking, listening, and smelling. The
children enjoy not participating in life, but merely spectating it. Peter and Wendy not only get this
literally, but they also figuratively get the freedom to come and go as they please. Now, they may
enjoy all of these things, but each thing or freedom which Wendy and Peter receive is another piece of
power that the parents once had

Good Country People by Flannery OConnor Characterization as Theme
The Depth of Hulga?s Despair
Characterization is the most prevalent component used for the development of themes in Flannery O?
Connor?s satirical short story ?Good Country People.? O?Connor artistically cultivates character
development throughout her story as a means of creating multi level themes that culminate in allegory.
Although the themes are independent of each other, the characters are not; the development of one
character is dependent upon the development of another. Each character?s feelings and behavior are
influenced by the behavior of the others. Joy/Hulga, as the story?s main character, is the singly most

The omniscient narrator allows the reader to see that Hulga?s stereotyping of the other characters is
flawed; she never bothers trying to get to know the others as real people. If she had, she would have
realized that there was more to them than meets the eye. Hulga?s lack of interest in the other
characters effectively isolates her character from any meaningful relationships with other people. Her
superior attitude towards the other characters is manifested in her disrespect for all of them. It never
occurs to her to do unto others, as she would have others do unto her. Another theme emerges from her
contemptuous behavior: Treat others with disrespect and eventually you too will be treated that way.
This might also be stated through two well known clichés: ?you reap what you sow? or ?what goes
around comes around.?
Hulga uses her handicap, a leg partially shot off during a hunting accident, as an excuse for stomping
loudly around the house in the hope of irritating her mother. Although Hulga sees herself as
intellectually superior, her self esteem and self image are low due to her handicap, as evidenced by her
complete disregard for her appearance. Further evidence of her low self esteem is her changing her
name from Joy to Hulga, a name that her mother, Mrs. Hopewell, felt was ?the ugliest name in any
language.? Unbeknownst to Hulga, Mrs. Hopewell grieved for her daughter?s tragic life and excuses

The Role And Role Of Public Administration
Public administrators play a huge role in the government and are the bridge connecting the
government and the public. They are the public s voice and ensure that we as people, have our basic
needs met. This does not go without issues and dilemmas, which are faced almost daily. Multiple areas
of a public administrator s job need to be taken into account such as public interest, the dilemmas of
privatizing government functions, ethical obligations and administrative responsibility. On the other
end of the spectrum, some believe that the needs of the people cannot be accuratley guaged because
our world is ever changing, which would make the job of a public administrator impossible. When
public administrators are chosen for their job, it is believed that they are the best for the job and that
they will hold the public s interest at heart. Public interest is that which is the best for the majority.
While not all decisions will make everyone happy because, that is impossible; public administrators
ensure that the people s best interest is being heard. This group of people make sure that regulations
and services are passed that will help the people. While these might not be the most relevant and up to
date issues, public administrators are placed to make sure the basics such as social security and where
our tax money goes is in favor of the needs of the people. Public administrators don t get a lot of credit
because the things that they ensure are things that we take for granted

The Debate Of The Tech Debate
MP 1.1 Rough Draft
The tech debate seems to never have a victor because there seems to be unending points of view and
evidence to support both sides. However, what seems to be true of those who support technology and
its benefits is they each have something different to say about its positivity. Through Morozov we see
the critiques of Carr and how the best way to view technology criticism is to do it in the perspective of
the evolution of tech, which gives us a broader understanding. Through Crystal we see the benefits of
technology and how it is far from causing a downfall of the english language. Lastly, Genevieve Bell,
an anthropologist and current Vice President at Intel discusses how technology is a way to spread
stories and give us a background into other people s lives. Although technology has considerably
changed multiple aspects of our society, it is not a detrimental piece of humanity, but rather something
that has changed the way humans interact and still further our understanding of each other. By
showing the multiple positions of Morozov, Crystal and a new source by Bell we can see that tech s
impact should be viewed through the multiple lenses, one of historical context, one of varying
social/human context and one of its sharing of ideas, all of which show the benefits of tech.
One of the lenses that gives us the most perspective about the technology debate is a historical one.
When looking at the tech debate in a historical context, it seems to be true that

President Bush And The Declaration Of Independence
The resilience of the American people has been seen for decades, even before gaining our
independence from the British. Our nation as a whole is not easily deterred; there is no challenge or
obstacle too big for Americans to overcome. Over our whole existence as a country, that statement has
held true, no tragedy or rivalry has been able to damage that. Address to a Joint Session of Congress
and the American People by President Bush and The Declaration of Independence by Thomas
Jefferson are examples of Americans overcoming trials and tribulations to come together as a whole.
In Address to a Joint Session of Congress and the American People President Bush as our leader at the
time was ready to defend our values established in the Declaration of Independence . President Bush
conveyed the values present in the declaration by using his authority to levy war, restore tranquility,
and bring justice to the American people, he newly establishes the tolerance of our nation towards
other religions and other views, however not toward the destruction of our country, and the declaration
is initially created for the freedom of solely our country, in this speech he builds upon the declaration
and appeals to the freedom of the world.
During the time this speech was delivered by President Bush, fear was deeply embedded in our nation
after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, therefore President Bush related his speech to the Declaration of
Independence in order to strengthen our nation to

The Change Of A Change Leader
I believe that the change that is to occur has a large part on the strategies that a change leader must use
to build employee commitment and buy in. According to Palmer, Dunford and Akin (2009) Getting
people to buy in may depend upon what it is that they are buying into: whether they perceive it as
favorable to them and whether the change had been adequately justified to them (p.302). If it was a
small change, it doesn t take much to get people to buy in, but if it is a large change it will take some
work. The first strategy that I would use as a change leader to communicate a change is to discuss the
need for the change. I believe that if people can see why the process needs to changed, it will open
them up to the possibility of a change. I have seen a lot of process done wrong or a slow way because
it was how it has always been done in that organization. If someone would have come into that
organization and told them that the amount of time they were wasting and showed them the new way,
I think the organization would buy in. The second strategy that I would use for communicating the
change is to provide everyone with accurate information on the change, it would include how the
change is going to happen and how it will affect everyone. I will only send out information that I feel
they need to know so I do not overload them. Palmer, Dunford and Akin (2009) state information
overload is even more problematic in companies where participants are already in receipt of a

Post-Hormone Replacement Therapy Research Paper
Benefits and Risks of Post Menopausal Hormones Replacement Therapy
Introduction
Estrogen and progesterone are hormones generated by the ovaries. These hormones have a variety of
fundamental uses in the body of a female. Estrogen initiates thickening of the uterus wall in
preparation for implantation of a fertilized ovum. Also, estrogen plays a role in the metabolism of
calcium in the body. Apart from these two roles, estrogen also participates in the maintenance of
cholesterol levels within the normal limits. Estrogen is also implicated in keeping the vagina healthy.
Progesterone, on the other hand, acts as a regulatory substance to estrogen. Menopause is
characterized by a reduction in production of these hormones. This decline in production correlates
with a decline in performance of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This increase in bone loss results in the condition called osteoporosis. Osteoporosis in turn increases
the susceptibility of bones to fractures. Studies have indicated that treatment with hormone
replacement therapy is beneficial in reducing the risk of suffering from osteoporosis. The clinical trial
carried out by Postmenopausal Estrogen/Progestin Interventions (PEPI) for three years revealed that
osteoporosis was reduced in hormone replacement therapy. This study demonstrated that the
independent use of conjugated equine estrogen (CEE) or in complex with progesterone analogs
fostered an increased bone mineral density. The Heart and Estrogen/Progestin Replacement Study
(HERS) was carried out separately in about three thousand women (Herrington 12). This study
indicated that bone density was significantly higher in women who underwent the therapy. The
women who had been assigned placebos showed a slightly higher rate of bone loss. This shows that
hormone replacement therapy confers the benefit of alleviating bone loss and maintaining healthy
amounts of bone minerals (PEPI;

Investigation Of Lucy Essay
Background
Expedition began in 1972 with scientists Maurice Taieb, Yves Coppens, Jon Kalb, and Donald
Johanson. (Johanson, 2004)
This was known as IARE or International Afar Research Expedition. (Johanson, 2004)
Discovery of Lucy in 1974. (Johanson, 2004)
Analysis of location
The expedition took place in Ethiopia s Afar Triangle which was also known as Hadar. (Johanson,
2004)
This was the best location to find fossils because it was 200 meters of strata. (Johanson, 2004)
Strata is an area in the ground where different layers of rock exists. (Johanson, 2004)
The lacustrine and fluviatile sediments allowed for a fossil rich area. (Johanson, 2004)
This allowed for complete or semi complete skeletons to preserved and later found. (Johanson, 2004)

I have decided to pursue and attain higher education because I am extremely passionate about the goals and aspirations that I have declared for myself. When I was about 8 years old, I was able to discern what I wanted to do and what I did not want to do in regards to my career when I grew up. I was able to narrow it down between two choices: lawyer and Superman; I chose the latter. Overtime my ideals on what type of law I wanted to specialize in, and what else I wanted to do in my career, has changed. It has allowed me to come to the consensus that I wanted to start my career in corporate America and conclude my career by becoming a legal analyst for a prominent Cable News Network such as ... • 3. Pros And Cons Of High School Uniforms I went to private school for a very long time, and we always wore uniforms. Then in third grade, I switched to a public school, so I was so excited to wear what I wanted on the first day. I remember I chose this orange hoodie with a skirt, and it s so funny when I think about it now because my style really hasn t changed that much. (Keke Palmer). Fashion is an extension of people. They define who people are and how they want people to see them. Private school, La Salle Catholic College Preparatory High School s (LSCCP) dress codes are limiting students to show their true selves and mold the students into well behaved and well dressed students to create a classy and studious environment; especially the female students. There are significantly more rules that are set towards girls than to boys. Although, public school, Mt. Hood Community College s (MHCC) dress codes are allowing their students to dress how they would like without harsh and specific rules as they dress themselves everyday. Therefore, LSCCP High School s dress code is more sexist compared to MHCC s dress code. Private high schools are known to be strict and have a high success rate after graduation. One of the factors of creating a harsh environment is having strict rules with limitations of what attending student may and may not wear. Many private high schools require uniforms for their students to wear, while others allow casual dressing, but with restrictions. At LSCCP High School, they do not require ... • 4. The American Civil War Is No Exception Every war has at least one pivotal point that begs the question, What if this event had happened differently? The American Civil War is no exception. Many Southerners made claims that the winning of the Battle of Shiloh could have won the entire war for the Confederacy. Because they lost, however, debate is still had about who is really to blame for the failure at Shiloh. Many try to pinpoint the blame to one specific factor whether that be the leadership under General Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard following General Albert Sidney Johnston s death, the intel that was far below par, or the equipment the Confederate soldiers had to use. In reality, it was a combination between all these factors that would seal the Confederates fate. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On April 3, Gen. Johnston mobilized his troops and marched towards Pittsburg Landing where they arrived on April 6 because of road and whether conditions. At 5:00 AM, Johnston launched a surprise attack on the unsuspecting Union camps. Because the divisions that had little to no experience were in the area where the attack was first made, the Confederates quickly broke through many Union lines successfully and wreaked havoc. They stormed the camps and slaughtered many of these men in their tents. The Union forces were pushed back at their flanks. One line, however, stood firm against the Confederate onslaught. General Benjamin M. Prentiss held his line and did not allow the Confederates to break through while fighting in a sunken road that is estimated to be about 3 feet deep in what is known as the The Hornet s Nest while waiting for reinforcements. By the end of the first day of fighting, it seemed clear that the Confederates dominated the North by inflicting a high number of casualties and had nearly wiped out Grant s entire force. The South suffered an even more monumental blow that day in the death of General Albert Sidney Johnston. The Office of the Chief Examiner wanted to create a branched off agency that investigated national criminals, and criminals who would stay in the state would be investigated by the county or state agencies. General Bonaparte was assigned to this task. In 1908, ten previous secret service agents were hired to this force. By mid year 1909, the agency had more than tripled in such a short time period. Attorney General Wickersham, Bonaparte s replacement after he was gone, renamed the branch to Bureau of Investigation. The number of policemen rose substantially in the next few years. In World War I, the main operation of the Bureau was to investigate people refusing to draft, Espionage Act of 1917 violators, and radical immigrants. After J. Edgar Hoover became director of the Bureau, the Bureau was built stronger to fight against criminals. This included a fingerprint file, crime lab, and training for new agents. Marie de France, supposed author of the series of Lais, recounts her stories through short texts, which are centered on women and their place in the 12th century. There are several supernatural elements throughout her work, which are mainly and explicitly present in Guigemar and Yonec . This can be defined as events or things that cannot be explained by nature or science and that are assumed to come from beyond or to originate from otherworldly forces. It is not however the only narrative device she has used in her written pieces. It is with the combination of the supernatural with the self propelled ship or the transformation of the hawk into a knight, and the natural, the symoblisation of the stick and the rossignol, that Marie de France explores human relations between her characters. The supernatural in Guigemar is evident right from the start when Guigemar s fate is determined by his encounter with the talking doe. As all knights from the time, the young man was due for an adventure in which metaphorically refers to his need to mature, which meant in this case finding love. As he is confronted to the talking doe, a natural being with supernatural characteristics, he is cursed and confronted with the dilemma to find love, or to be forced into finding death, De si ke cele te guarisse Ki suffera pur te amur . We can t just wait until something threatens or hurts a person of minority. We have to look at ourselves in the mirror and continues stating that there is a reason that they racially profile us in the way they do. Sometimes it is wrong, and sometimes it is right (Cobb). Barkley s statement presents the idea that racial profiling is utilized toward certain racial groups and ethnic minorities through the idea of implicit stereotypes where groups are categorized based on their qualities and social features. He wants the black community to understand that they are cast away from other racial groups because of how they are recognized both physically and stereotypically. The idea of racial profiling is used in certain circumstances to show that police officials will use their racial insight to identify an individual who would be suspected of committing illegal acts based on their racial identity or religious background. In addition, Rudolph Giuliani addressed on a Fox News Sunday interview that the relationship between police officers and the black community have poor interaction with one another because of the police department s lack of responsibility to properly train their officers and to diversify the department (Cobb). Aging Is Defined As The Process Of Aging Aging John Pickett Mind, Brain, and Intelligence Aging Aging is defined as the process of growing old but there are many different things that take place during the process of ageing that help define what aging truly is. We will explore the steps and stages of aging from birth to the end of life. Erikson s stages of adult development gives a timeline of physical and mental aging in which the ability to resolve crisis plays a huge role in successful development over the life span. The trust vs. mistrust stage takes place from birth to 12 months when an infant learns to trust the person who is caring for them. If rejection takes place during this stage the infant may believe that all people are not unreliable and have problems with trusting throughout the stages that follow the trust and mistrust stage. However if the infant feels secure the parent or caregiver has laid a great foundation that carries over throughout the stages that follow the trust and mistrust stage. As we age this very foundation may become key in how we handle relationships throughout the duration of our lives. (Hill, 2005, p. 25) The autonomy vs. shame and doubt stage is from about 2 to 3 years old when we feel the need to become independent through simple tasks such as dressing and feeding ourselves. Many first time parents delay the need for independence for their children at this age for fear of them hurting themselves and the child may develop self doubt. Self doubt ... One way that bacteria transfer their DNA is through vertical transfer which is a scientific name for transferring genetic material from parent to offspring (Dabnua, 2005). Bacteria are capable of transferring their DNA asexually, meaning that they do not require a partner to produce an offspring, and this is done through binary fission. The process of binary fission is when bacterial DNA is replicated and the cell divides into 2 daughter cells that are genetically identical to the parent. Bacteria containing the antibiotic resistant gene can easily pass this on through binary fission. When conditions are favorable, such as optimal temperature and nutrients, bacteria can replicate quickly and efficiently, dividing as fast as every 20 minutes. Another form of DNA transfer is through horizontal transfer. Horizontal transfer occurs via plasmids through conjugation, transformation and transduction (Dabnua, 2005). A plasmid is a circular molecule of DNA independent from the bacteria s chromosomal DNA. It is a double stranded molecule that can replicate independently and normally only contains genes that may be beneficial to the survival of the bacteria, such as the mecA gene (Brisse, 2002). Country music has gone through many phases of different musical styles including the honky tonk style and more modern pop country style. More recently, mainstream country has continued to define itself through bringing all these different styles together and relying on each of them. This genre of music faces issues relating to its original classification as being working class music , being in opposition to homosexuality and its portrayal and absence of women. Often times I have heard people say that they prefer all genres of music, except country. Growing up I always listened to country music due to the fact that my mom and our family friends often listen to it, therefore I never understood why it unveiled such a negative reaction for most people. Oftentimes I find myself excluding my enjoyment of country music to others simply to avoid their surprised reactions. While I realize how people may be closed off to country music because of the labels that have been imposed upon it in common discourse and media, I often would like to point out that modern country music that is played on the radio today is often very different from more traditional country music played many years ago, and is not that much different from pop and rock sounds. While they made their visit to the center they discovered that children as early as two years old have been acknowledged by priests as the next group to be initiated into undisclosed religious rites. Guggenheim successfully persuades his audience, first by using the ethos appeal. He does this by opening his film by explaining that as parent, he also worries and cares for the success of his own children and is very aware of the degradation of the public education. He is also being fair minded as he opens up about a previous film he created where he was actually supporting the idea that public schools worked. In order to have a relationship, the couple must have trust, honesty, commitment, and most importantly, communication within the relationship. One must accept their selves before venturing off into the world, looking for love to consider their selves as happy . In reality, there is no fairy godmother there to make difficult situations disappear/make two people fall in love with one another. People should care about how love is portrayed in Disney films because their daughters may expect the same treatment and become emotionally damaged. This issue matters because no one should be misled by what the media depicts. The most largely discriminated demographic before 1996 and somewhat even so today is the African American population. In 1619 the first African American slaves were introduced into the colony of Jamestown, Virginia 1. Then after many years and revolts, in 1831 slavery was finally abolished and all freed slaves were given 40 acres and a mule to help these newly freed slaves begin their new lives 2. Although this was helpful, many conflicts arose from this new found freedom and the struggle didn t get any easier. It wasn t until 1965, after the founding of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), World War II, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr., and several supreme court cases, that African American finally achieved the right to vote3. Even after these several legal advancements and many different civil rights movements the playing field, after many attempts to be leveled out, was still uneven and the day by day struggles continued. Transcendentalist Transcendentalism and Christianity Have Incompatible Beliefs Transcendentalism is a group of new ideas in literature, religion, culture, and philosophy that emerged in the early to middle 19th century (Wikipedia). Transcendentalism first started with Ralph Waldo Emerson, one of the pioneers of the Transcendentalists, who in his essay Nature , criticized several things, especially the Unitarian church (Wikipedia). This means that God occupies the first place in their beliefs; therefore, they will never put God and nature in the same unity as Transcendentalists do. A last incompatible belief about God between Transcendentalists and Christians is that Transcendentalists believe that human beings can become like God, that they can grow a resemblance to God (Stanford 2). Christians do not have the same point of view about that because, for them, God is perfect and the creator of everything, including humans (Certificate 2). So, logically, there is no way that humans could achieve the perfection of their creator. The incompatible beliefs about God make the two doctrines even more incompatible because Transcendentalists don t see God as powerful as Christians do. The last area where the beliefs of Transcendentalists and Christians are incompatible is about the Bible. The Bible or Holy Scriptures contains the Old and New Testaments which are the written words of God and Christians believe strongly in it. They say that it was given by God and contains his knowledge which is the basis of Christian s theology (Certificate 2). But Transcendentalists don t like the idea of putting theology between people and God (Gentry). They believe that people can by themselves know more about God or the truth in general (Lewis). This is incompatible with the Christians beliefs about the truth found in the Bible. Another reason why Transcendentalist and Christian beliefs about the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. The Theme Of Power In The Veldt By Ray Bradbury Julia Sherman November 10, 2017 English Pd. 6 The Veldt Thematic Essay When considering reasons for a power or control shift in a relationship between a parent and child, one of the most common reasons considered is the fact that parents are giving kids too much too soon. As a parent gives these things, literal objects and figurative things, too soon, they are actually letting the power in their relationship shift and giving the kids more control. In The Veldt, the author, Ray Bradbury, emphasizes the theme with dialogue and tone. In the short story, George and Lydia Hadley, and their two children Peter and Wendy, are living in a smart house, where almost everything gets done for them. The quote, But I thought we that s why we bought this house, so we wouldn t have to do anything? shows how little they have to do to have everything nice and keep a good home. The children have grown up not doing anything; they do not even paint their own pictures. The children do not do their own laundry, make their own beds, or bathe themselves. Their lives are so simple, and all they spend their days doing is looking, listening, and smelling. The children enjoy not participating in life, but merely spectating it. Peter and Wendy not only get this literally, but they also figuratively get the freedom to come and go as they please. Now, they may enjoy all of these things, but each thing or freedom which Wendy and Peter receive is another piece of power that the parents once had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Connor?s satirical short story ?Good Country People.? O?Connor artistically cultivates character development throughout her story as a means of creating multi level themes that culminate in allegory. Although the themes are independent of each other, the characters are not; the development of one character is dependent upon the development of another. The omniscient narrator allows the reader to see that Hulga?s stereotyping of the other characters is flawed; she never bothers trying to get to know the others as real people. If she had, she would have realized that there was more to them than meets the eye. Hulga?s lack of interest in the other characters effectively isolates her character from any meaningful relationships with other people. Her superior attitude towards the other characters is manifested in her disrespect for all of them. It never occurs to her to do unto others, as she would have others do unto her. Another theme emerges from her contemptuous behavior: Treat others with disrespect and eventually you too will be treated that way. This might also be stated through two well known clichés: ?you reap what you sow? or ?what goes around comes around.? Hulga uses her handicap, a leg partially shot off during a hunting accident, as an excuse for stomping loudly around the house in the hope of irritating her mother. Although Hulga sees herself as intellectually superior, her self esteem and self image are low due to her handicap, as evidenced by her complete disregard for her appearance. Further evidence of her low self esteem is her changing her name from Joy to Hulga, a name that her mother, Mrs. Hopewell, felt was ?the ugliest name in any language.? However, what seems to be true of those who support technology and its benefits is they each have something different to say about its positivity. Through Morozov we see the critiques of Carr and how the best way to view technology criticism is to do it in the perspective of the evolution of tech, which gives us a broader understanding. Through Crystal we see the benefits of technology and how it is far from causing a downfall of the english language. Lastly, Genevieve Bell, an anthropologist and current Vice President at Intel discusses how technology is a way to spread stories and give us a background into other people s lives. Although technology has considerably changed multiple aspects of our society, it is not a detrimental piece of humanity, but rather something that has changed the way humans interact and still further our understanding of each other. By showing the multiple positions of Morozov, Crystal and a new source by Bell we can see that tech s impact should be viewed through the multiple lenses, one of historical context, one of varying social/human context and one of its sharing of ideas, all of which show the benefits of tech. One of the lenses that gives us the most perspective about the technology debate is a historical one. When looking at the tech debate in a historical context, it seems to be true that ... According to Palmer, Dunford and Akin (2009) Getting people to buy in may depend upon what it is that they are buying into: whether they perceive it as favorable to them and whether the change had been adequately justified to them (p.302). If it was a small change, it doesn t take much to get people to buy in, but if it is a large change it will take some work. The first strategy that I would use as a change leader to communicate a change is to discuss the need for the change. I believe that if people can see why the process needs to changed, it will open them up to the possibility of a change. I have seen a lot of process done wrong or a slow way because it was how it has always been done in that organization. If someone would have come into that organization and told them that the amount of time they were wasting and showed them the new way, I think the organization would buy in.
