Characteristics Of Mary Cooper
The Admirable Traits of Mary Cooper By now, everyone has heard of a successful show on CBS
called The Big Bang Theory (F. Belyeu (producer). (2007). The Big Bang Theory [Television Series].
Burbank CA, Columbia Broadcast System). It is a show about a small group of friends that mostly
work at a university science department. Throw in a beautiful waitress and a quirky comic book store
owner and you have the makings of a funny show. One of the main characters in this show, Sheldon
Cooper, is so smart that he doesn t understand sarcasm. He lacks a sense of humor and doesn t have
social skills that the rest of society has. Unlike Sheldon, his mother Mary, who is played by Laurie
Metcalf, stands out in the show as a good role model for women of any age. She is a good and loving
mother who never forces her beliefs on her son, yet she stands for what she believes in and loves her
son, despite their vastly differing views on religion and science. Mary is a Texan through and through
and it shows in her demeanor and some of the things she says. In talking about a religious retreat, she
once went one she said, Oh, it is a hoot and a half. You write your sins on a clay pigeon, then fire em
up in the air and you pulverize em with a twelve gage shotgun full of our Lord s forgiveness (The

Arguments Against The Electoral College
In the The Electoral College Is Important Because It Reflects the Will of the States, Charles Fried, a
law professor at Harvard Law School and was solicitor general of the United States, argues that the
Electoral College should continue. Due to the U.S.A being a direct democracy, the representatives and
members of the electoral college are chosen by the citizens; however, they do not elect their presidents
directly. He expresses that the states have their own political culture, personalities, and traditions, and
they are not the administrative elements of the the federal government; therefore, they can only elect
their governors by popular vote. Ultimately he concludes that it is not always the popular vote which
determine the winner; sometimes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I will use this source to show that the states successfully use the popular vote to elect their governors
with focusing more on democracy; thus, the national government can elect the president by popular
vote. I will also use this source to show that people should be the primary elements of the
governments not the subsidiary. In States Don t Use Electoral College to Choose Their Leader, Neither
Should the Nation, Akhil R. Amar, a law professor at Yale University and the author of the many of
the books one of which is The Constitution Today: Timeless Lessons for the Issues of Our Era, argues
that the Electoral College should be abolished because states choose their own governors directly;
therefore, the federal government should use the same model when choosing its president. He proves
that the direct technique that the states use is smart and working. He also claims that unlikely to the
current election system, in a direct election system, states would have incentive to encourage people to
vote. Ultimately, he believes that with an agreement of the two major political parties candidates, the
future national elections could happen without a constitutional

A Brief Note On Norwegian Black Metal

MUS211 Final Paper
Norwegian Black Metal
The Oxford dictionary s definition of Black Metal is a subset of heavy metal music having lyrics that
deal with Satanism and the supernatural . Fans of black metal, or any other music that deals with the
occult, are usually considered outcasts, and some would find it difficult to regard this genre of music,
as Popular , but the growing number of fanatics all over the world, mainly in the Scandinavian
countries, would refute that.
The image in the cover page, is a picture of the three founding members of Mayhem, Per Dead Ohlin,
Oystein Euronymous Aarseth and Jan Helhammer Blomberg. Widely considered as the pioneers of
Norwegian Black Metal, Mayhem will be a focal point of the following paper. The three founding
members are usually regarded as the forefathers of Black Metal. From this image, several important
aspects of Black Metal spring to mind immediately, the leather outfits, spike and bullet accessories
and face paint (also called Corpse Paint ) make up a big portion of what defines a Black Metal artist or
fan.
History and Influences of Norwegian Black Metal In order to delve into the basic intricacies of Black
Metal, we must first consider the history surrounding Black Metal. Why is it that artists and fans alike
of this genre, feel so strongly against Religion, Christianity in particular? Thinking back almost 1000
years, to the 9th Century, Vikings ruled the Scandinavian countries,

Political Instability in Modern African State
POLITICAL INSTABILITY IN MODERN AFRICAN STATE, CAURSE, EFFECT AND
SOLUTION
INTRODUCTION
The constant drumbeat of headlines about Darfur, Zimbabwe, Sudan, Somalia, Liberia as well as the
other states in Africa that are beleaguered by political instability have made the causes of failed states
and intra state political conflicts a major issue, both academic and practical. The International Day of
Peace which was established by a United Nation resolution in 1982, and is marked every year on
September 21, is a global event whose activities are significant in highlighting the worldwide efforts
towards conflict resolution and peace building. This day is however more relevant to the continent of
Africa where most conflicts have taken place, with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite the existence of institutional frameworks that are supposed to guide processes and delivery on
essential services, the continued weakening of these institutions, through political mechanization and
predatory nature of African elites, working in cohorts with external interests also contributes further to
the undermining of stability in Africa. These tendencies exacerbate resources wars, ethnic rivalry, and
more recently, the emergence of electoral violence as a characteristic of multi party era elections in
African. Although many events and occurrences might give the impression that African continent is
still drifting , there are also positive things taking place in the continent and the drift needs to be
analyzed from several perspectives that capture both the positive and negative developments and what
informs the direction of these developments. There are pull and push factors, which keep shaping the
internal dynamics in Africa. However, African people have not remained static, even though there are
some retrogressive tendencies. The majority, whose perspectives are hardly captured in western media
or academia, have made great leaps, in a number of areas, including their level of political awareness
and popular participation in the political processes.
The leadership dilemma and many other governance related malpractices are being challenged more

Summary Of Congestive Heart Failure
Introduction
Over the years there has been some controversy on defining congestive heart failure due to a vast
variability of the clinical signs and symptoms (Coronel, 2001). The American Heart Association
defines it as a complex clinical syndrome that can result from any structural or functional cardiac
disorder that impairs the ability of the ventricle to fill or eject blood (Veronique, 2013). In this case
report will critically analyse the general information of the giving condition in relation to the patient s
case.
Discussion
Epidemiology of Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) can be subjective due to the different representation
of the meaning of heart failure, as well as the prevalence and incidence of heart failure. In the
Framingham Heart Study (1965) the lifetime risk of developing CHF is one in five. ... Show more

My Interest On Computer Science Essay
Google Essay What sparked your interest in computer science? How did this lead you to major in
computer science and what do you hope to accomplish with your degree? In your answer, please
describe how your experiences have influenced the goals you have for yourself. Every human has a
purpose and every purpose has an ordained path and beginning. My interest in computer science came
to light as soon as I began to walk, talk and think independently. I always had the innate passion and
desire to scrutinize electronic devices even though I was still a child with little understanding. Being a
little kid, my access to computers were constrained, but nonetheless, I made the best out of every
opportunity I had with them. Time flew by like a dove as I suddenly began to grow in wisdom, and
also began to understand what life is all about. Immediately I graduated from high school, I applied
for a 3 month full time computer training before making any preparation for college. Unbeknownst to
me, I was actually on a direct path to discovering my true potential in computer science and
engineering. Financially and physically, it was a burden commuting from my home down to the
computer training center, but the intrinsic passion and desire to get my hands on electronic devices
and to learn more about how computers really work made me overlook the struggle. I did not think
twice while applying for Computer Engineering in the university, as I already had a clear glimpse of

Hunting
Hunting
Hunting has been around since before man was even thought of and has evolved ever since. Now only
a sport, ounce was a skill used to survive. Hunting is a natural, ethical, and healthy undertaking (
History , par1). Hunting is a way of life without hunting nothing would live that s why we have a food
chain. Herbivores eat plants, carnivores eat herbivores and bigger carnivores eat other carnivores.
Perhaps one of the eldest activities on the face of the planet is hunting ( History of hunting , par 1).
Hunting has been one of the oldest activities known to mankind. During the first era of hunting men
were to learn how to hunt so they could hunt daily and bring food home every night to eat. The

A caliber is the size if the bullet that the gun will shoot. Bows have been around a lot longer than guns,
created by the Indians to make hunting easier. A bow works like a type of sling shot to shoot a spear.

bows and over a million different arrows for bows. When hunting seasons where created so where
different types of weapon seasons. This allowed bow hunters to hunt before gun hunters because bows
are more difficult to use. So allowing them to hunt first gave
them a better chance at getting an animal. These hunting seasons also allow the animals to breed
without becoming extinct. Some of the animals hunted have been taken out of the hunting seasons
because of their near extinction.
One of the oldest animals hunted is still hunted today and that is the deer. Some history experts believe
that the whitetail deer went through several population stages in the past 500 years due to the hunting
of them ( Deer Hunting History , par 2). Whitetail deer offered early era hunters more than just a food
value. The deer hides were used for many different items like moccasins, skirts, dresses, leggings,
robes, mittens, head wear, blankets, pouches, bags, archery quivers, straps, and many other things.
Like today early hunters were also trophy hunters,

The Use Of Technology In Neil Postman s Brave New World
The invention of technology has made life easier but has it really helped? Neil Postman s writing
AMUSING OURSELVES TO DEATH from 1985 brings up the concern about the use of new
technology and how it s negatively affecting our society. Neil Postman s unique and very fitting title
AMUSING OURSELVES TO DEATH helps to portray what Postman tries to explain through this
writing. Postman also uses two authors Orwell who s the author of Nineteen Eighty Four and Huxley s
who is the author of Brave New World . The transition from the market of ideas to the market of
images that technology has made. Postman writing AMUSING OURSELVES TO DEATH conveys
valid points about technology and the affect it has on society but it s debatable whether technology is
good or bad. Postman s use of Orwell and Huxley to show that there can be a problem but two
different reasons to why that has become a problem. The problem being that Postman believes that
with the use of technology, we as a society will become useless. How does Orwell and Huxley fit into
this well What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there
would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one (Postman 14).
Orwell believe that someone like a dictator that would take away or ability to think and learn and we
wouldn t have control over it. Huxley believes that we would lose our will to want to learn. As how
does this connect to Technology and

Essay On Founding Brothers
In the book, Founding Brothers, by Joseph J. Ellis, he captures the significant moments from the past
in post revolutionary America and the lives of every single member of the Founding Fathers. The
primary members included Washington, Madison, Hamilton, Adams, and Jefferson while Aaron and
Franklin were somewhat in the background. He examines the Founding Brothers influential moments
in the Revolutionary generation and from that changing the course of what the United States would
become. Even though he seems somewhat unsure of his claim, his factual research and profound
specific details in the book shows his desire to reveal the importance of the founding brothers decision

formation of the Federalist party, and he helped draft his Farwell address. The relationship between
Jefferson and Adams is precisely the main course of this book; Ellis explores how politics resembled
ties forged by the Revolution, but how time and viewpoints facilitated a continuation of that

discusses how Jefferson unfairly criticized Adams for political gain. As of result, Jefferson won office
mostly due to his attack on Adams. Also, Jefferson attempted to create a friendly settlement with

Deforestation In Middle And South America
In Middle and South America, it is evident that human interactions affect the physical features. The
human interaction that affects Middle and South America is deforestation. In 1970 s a period of
deforestation began in Brazil with the construction of the Trans Amazon Highway; the road allowed
migrant farmers to grow crops (Pulsipher Pulsipher 2012). Deforestation continued throughout Middle
and South America. The use lodging of hardwoods, extracting minerals, oil, gas, stones and clearing

opened this month. Completing FAFSA is required to be eligible for over $24 billion in grants, loans,
work study and even scholarships. Students must complete the FAFSA every year in order to continue
to be eligible for financial aid.
I think there are a lot of people who qualify that don t think they will qualify, so they don t fill out the
FAFSA, said Briget Jans (sic), the executive director of student financial aid at UH.
Jans said it s not unusual students with six figure family incomes to qualify for aid like subsidized
loans, depending on their financial situation. Subsidized federal loans alone are worth filing the
FAFSA for because students won t rack up interest while in school.
More than federal aid
Even if students don t qualify for federal financial aid, Jans encourages them to fill the FAFSA
because it also qualifies students for state and university aid.
Some primarily merit based UH scholarships have a need requirement. Without a FAFSA on file,
students can t be considered for these scholarships. While the FAFSA opened this month, the UH
scholarship application is open from Dec. 15 to Feb. 26.
Even if students didn t receive state or university aid in previous years, they should apply this year.
Jans said the state has allocated two million more in financial aid to UH than in previous years and

Character Analysis Of Severus Snape In Harry Potter
.Snape: Character Analysis Severus Snape, a deviant, strict and a shady character with whom
throughout the Harry Potter series kept the audience second guessing where his allegiance lied. In the
6th book of the series, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Price, Snape s lineage was revealed. He was a
half blood wizard born to Eileen Prince and Tobias Snape. Just like our series hero Harry Potter, Snape
was raised in the Muggle (non wizard people) setting till the age of eleven when he received his letter
of admission into Hogwarts, school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He was sorted into the Slytherin
house known for the house that has turned up the most dark and powerful wizards, including the

Snape was once a Death Eater and therefore implying his loyalty towards Lord Voldemort (Goblet of
Fire). We know very little about the early life of Snape making it easy to believe that Voldemort and
his ideologies were something Snape greatly admired, ( Snape knew more curses when he arrived to
school then half of the kids in seventh year , according to Sirius Black). Snape had also invented a
curse too, Sectumsempra (Half Blood Prince), which is rare for a student. He demonstrated no qualms
to use the word mudblood (a foul word used for the muggle born or the impure) in the most
derogatory sense (as Harry witness during his visit into Snape s worst memory in the Order of the
Phoenix). He also fancied a nickname for himself, The Half Blood Prince, highlighting his wizarding
heritage. These small facts, when taken together, are indicative to the reasons Snape may have chosen
to become a Death Eater. His words and actions throughout the series indicate his need for power and
respect, two attributes that the wizarding world accords to the Dark Lord, which may have been the
strongest reason behind his decision to be Voldemort s follower and join the Death Eaters in his youth.
Snape and Voldemort share the same tactic of intimidation through fear. However, the power and
respect accorded to Voldemort was also accorded The Great Dumbledore. Moreover Dumbledore
could offer two things to Snape that Voldemort could not and if could would not care to due to his
selfish nature, and that is, unwavering trust and true friendship. Snape may have been Voldemort s
favourite but he shows distrust in Snape when he appoints Peter Pettigrew to be Snape s assistance in
Spinners End (The Half Blood Prince). As for friendship, it is doubtful that Voldemort is capable of
such a thing, Lord Voldemort has never had friends and nor has he ever wanted one summaries

This choice is an act of defiance towards European ideology; the basis of western superiority relies on

The Theories Of A Scientific Research
It comes in no surprise that only those theories which make accurate predictions as well as fitting the
empirical data count as being adequate and deemed good science. In relation to the confusion
associated with the unobservable mechanisms, anti realist offer the view that just because the concepts
of observable and unobservable are vague, it does not automatically mean they are not useful or false
(Okasha 2002). The dependence of observation in proposing theory makes it hard and sometimes even
impossible to come up conclusively falsify theories all the time. Not to mention that observable and
unobservable mechanisms are not that difference after all (Okasha 2002). Correspondingly, as long as
they are able to clarify and explain phenomena, all we need to do is to choose the best available. Once
we have a theory in hand, as a result, we should have certain ability to predict the future, which is one
of the key motivations for performing scientific research. Model is one of the most popular methods
adopted by researchers to predict the future. The models of animal flocking behaviour, San Fransisco
Bay model, and climate model are just few of the models which are regularly used to represent and

two best friends from middle school drift away from her, meeting new crowds and begin consuming
marijuana and alcohol regularly. Unable to ask her parents for advice due to the growing tension in
their marriage, Yolanda opts to start a new friendship with a neighbor and classmate by the name of

identity is the feeling of belonging to a group of people. A majority of second generation immigrants
experience American cultural identities in public and Mexican cultural identities in the household.
Individual conflicts may arise when an individual tries to integrate a new culture into their lives,

their functions. Three animals specifically can be observed and compared: minks, frogs, and mice.

that the animal could function properly. If the liver in the mouse and the liver in the mink were

1960s And 1970s Gender Roles Essay
Prior to the 1960s and 70s in the United States, roles were defined based on someone s gender, family
structure, and sexual orientation. Women were to be in domestic roles in a family by raising the
children, housework, and attending the husband s needs. Women were discouraged to pursue higher
education and few were supervisors in the workplace. The family was to be composed of a husband,
wife, and children. The husband was the patriarch and therefore, whatever he decided went. Finally,
homosexuality was seen as taboo and was strongly discouraged in society. However, a sexual
revolution took place during the 1960s and 1970s where roles were no longer being accepted and
people could make decisions on their own than, what society told them. With these advancements, I

Women were seen as domestic servants and did not have a say in decisions. This is contrary to the
Roaring Twenties, where many women began changing norms that society had set forth by wearing
makeup, short dresses, smoking and drinking in public. The norm was to cover up the body, perform
domestic work, remain abstinence, and follow what the man said. These women became known as
flappers. However, the stereotypical housewife emerged in the 50s where she is to speak in a low
voice to not disturb her husband, tend to children, and know her place. There is an article that will be
in the bibliography that showcases the characteristics a woman was to follow. Thanks to the
Counterculture, Vietnam War Protests, and Civil Rights Movement during the 1960s, women began
once again to challenge the rules society wanted them to follow. Women demanded higher gender pay,
higher education, and privacy

The Electric Telegraph Invented By Samuel Morse
One of the earliest inventions of communication was the electric telegraph invented by Samuel Morse.
This device used electrical signals to transmit messages. The telegraph played a significant role in
transmitting messages over long spaces. Its usage was in Law enforcement, army and newspapers.
Even so, anyone could post messages using a telegram via a service. Today, there are roughly three
principal methods of measuring the velocity of data contagion. Baud rate (signaling events per
minute), BPS (bits per Sec) and CPS (characters per minute). The fact is, today the baud rate has been
substituted with a more precise unit of measurement.
Telephones are most mutual and are ground in almost every home and organizations. Telephones
worked by using a PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network). This is where copper wires carry an
analogue voice signal. Analogue means a device or organization in which the value of a data point
represented by a continuously varying physical quantity which can be quantified. An example is a
watch that shows time with hands on a dial rather than numbers on an LCD screen. In an analogue
telephone system, the audio signal is converted into electronic pulses. This creates vibrations in the
handset s speaker that can be picked up by the person listening.
Nevertheless, in a digital telephone. The audio signal is converted into binary format. The binary
format consists of groups of 0 s and 1 s. The audio signal is sampled thousands of times a second and

Artificial Neural Networks ( Ann )
CHAPTER 5 Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) 5.1 Machine Learning In machine learning, systems
are trained to infer patterns from observational data. A particularly simple type of pattern, a mapping
between input and output, can be learnt through a process called supervised learning. A supervised
learning system is given training data consisting of example inputs and the corresponding outputs, and
comes up with a model to explain those data (a process called function approximation). It does this by
choosing from a class of model specified by the system s designer. [Nature. ANN 4] 5.1.1 Machine
Learning Applied to the Air Engine The rapid growth of data sets means that machine learning can
now use complex model classes and tackle highly non trivial inference problems. Such problems are
usually characterized by several factors: The data are multi dimensional; the underlying pattern is
complex (for instance, it might be nonlinear or changeable); and the designer has only weak prior
knowledge about the problem in particular, a mechanistic understanding is lacking. [Nature, ANN 4]
5.2 Overview of ANN Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) are a branch of the field known as Artificial
Intelligence (AI) which may also consists of Fuzzy logic (FL) and Genetic Algorithms (GA). ANN are
based on the basic model of the human brain with capability of generalization and learning. The
purpose of this simulation to the simple model of human neural cell is to acquire the intelligent

The Walt Disney Corporation
The Walt Disney Corporation was founded in 1923 under the name Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio
by brothers Walt and Roy Disney. The company brandished its current name in 1986 after the death of
Walt Disney (1). This company like other large conglomerates has a vice grip on the flow of
information that reaches consumers like you and me. Some people believe that having these
corporations constricting our access to information leads to a generation of uninformed people, but in
the day and age when anybody can get onto to google and search with specific enough criteria to find
articles proving any stand point... they were going to be uninformed any way. For example, there are

For example, The Walt Disney Corporation owns more channels than just the ones that share its
namesake. These companies include: ABC broadcast network, Disney Channel, Freeform publishing,
The History Channel, Lifetime Movie Network, Marvel Studios, Pixar Studios, AND a 32% holding
of Hulu, an 80% holding of ESPN Inc., and 50% holding of A E. If you didn t know the name by now,
then it should be painfully obvious at this point. The scarier thing is that each of the networks listed
has even more subsidiaries that add to the reach of Disney. One example is ESPN Inc., it owns ESPN,
ESPN2, ESPN3, ESPN on ABC, ESPNews, ESPN Deportes, ESPN Films, ESPNU, ESPN Classic,
ESPN Now, SEC Network, and ESPN The Magazine... just to name a few (6).
Disney is known for that Iconic shape of one specific cartoon mouse, the symbol it s self has changed
as the years go on but Mickey Mouse s head/ silhouette is always an easily recognizable logo for a
company that everyone knows. The logo was originally adopted in 1991, 63 years after the original
Steamboat Willie was produced (1). This was one of the many firsts for Disney allowing them to
maintain their status of a multimedia powerhouse of the US. The very first completely animated
feature length film was produced by Disney in 1937, you may have heard of it, Snow White and the
Seven Dwarfs. No one has ever even attempted anything like this

The Identity Of Capoeira And Ballet Dance
This essay sets out to show how the identity of capoeira and ballet dance has been encompassed
within multiple different countries. The historical themes of globalisation and adaptation will prove to
deepen ones understanding into the history of ballet and capoeira dance. Through the classification of
Ballet and Capoeira dance the cultural traditions of the dance styles will be projected.
Haskell explains the significance of the word classical , it implies a set of rules that are rigid, that have
developed over a long period . The globalisation of ballet aids also in the characteristics of ballet as a
dance form. Classical is a term which is closely linked to ballet. (Greskovic, 2005, pp. 5 10)
The word Ballet stems from the Italian word Ballo deriving from the Italian verb to dance. The use of
the Italian term ballo (referring to dancing to varied rhythms) instead of the Italian verb danza (to
dance) did not only represented the inclusion of Italy into the ballet history timeline, but also it
indefinitely transformed the culture of ballet as it was known until that time in the mid thirties of the
seventeenth century (Greskovic, 2005, p. 6) The identity of ballet during its early development stages
(pre twentieth century) shows how language can be used to enrich ballet. (Arthenia.com, no date)

Justice And Revenge In The Literary Works Of Agatha Christie
Justice and Revenge
Living in today s society when justice has failed, because often seek revenge. (AG) Societal structure
and order create the chaos of vengeance because when it fails, they would have the stress to seek the
vengeance that they want. (SS) Individuals should not seek revenge when justice has failed because
revenge is chaos, hurtful, and troubling. This can be seen in the literary works of Agatha Christie and
A.B. Guthrie. Both authors explore the universal theme that when justice fails, revenge will follow.
The characters in the stories plan and execute their revenge after justice has failed.
Those who seek revenge do so because it can create chaos. (TS) In the short historical fiction, Bargain,

invited to an island and they were killed one by one and each death was from a childish rhyme, the 10

he wanted to commit a mystery murder and he didn t feel guilty. For some years past I have been
aware of a change within myself, a lessening of control a desire to act instead of to judge. I have
wanted let me admit it frankly to commit a murder myself (287). This is important because his motive
was just to create a murder mystery. This could have been revenge on the 10 guests murders, but the
people thinking about the deaths were really hurtful and emotional to them. When each of them were

justice so why if it fails, do it for yourself and change your motive and it could lead to bad

Louis Sullivan s Influence On Modern Architecture
Though not considered by most to be an author, Louis Sullivan, an architect, was an influential figure
whose works changed architecture for generations to come. His work was the beginning of an entirely
new style of architecture that rewrote the rules that govern the construction of buildings. Without ever
writing a book, Sullivan exemplified all the characteristics that make up a true author. His most
famous creation, the skyscraper, continues to influence modern architecture in much the same way
that a book can convey its knowledge for many years. To begin, I contend that authorship is not
restricted to include only those who put pen to paper and create using words. Authorship is the
creation of any thing or idea, which may or may not be published. This explanation of authorship is
far broader than the conventional definition, but it fits much more closely to the intentional meaning
of someone who creates. The lines of the conventional term are frequently ... Show more content on

beauty of the building should come second to, and arise from, the utility of the structure. Beauty will
follow naturally with a building that serves the needs of its occupants well. It is strongly indicative of
the trend of industrialization, which sought increasingly efficient methods of creation in order to
increase profit, which was an appealing idea to many Americans.
The phrase also serves to appeal to the strong feelings of patriotism, as it helped to define the new,
distinctly American form of architecture known as the skyscraper. Previously, many buildings were
built in the same heavy style of European architecture. The newer, lighter steel frame buildings like
the Wainwright displayed a new American style of building that no longer relied on the old European

Current Technology on Winding Linear Generators Essay
Current Technology on Winding Linear Generators Abstract
This paper is an overview of the materials and winding technology that is currently used on today s
linear generators. It contains information on the types of wire used as well as the epoxy used to hold
the coil windings in place. Furthermore, it contains information on the possible orientations that the
coils can have with respect to the permanent magnets.
Introduction
Linear generators/motors have been around since the early 1900 s with one of the first written
references being in regard to Birkeland s Cannon, then described as a tubular motor but is more
accurately described as a reluctance motor. 1
Today linear generators/motors have more widespread, not to ... Show more content on

In the following examples the coil wires are shown to be perpendicular to the motion of the permanent
magnet. The flux in the coils changes direction as the permanent magnet passes through the coils in
the Sandia Alternator Design. This change in flux with respect to time as well as direction induces
current in the coils in both directions.5
Another method for winding the coils involves the use of several separate coils connected by two bus
wires. 6 Current is induced in the individual coils as the permanent magnet and then routed to the
output via the two bus wires.6
Epoxy Resins for Windings
The windings on the linear generator are almost always coated with some sort of epoxy similar to.
This accomplishes two things: the first is to secure the windings in place and the second is to provide
for additional insulation. The windings need to be secured in order to prevent the wires from
separating due to the forces that each wire exerts on the other wires that surround it. This force is due
to the current that passes through it. The following is an explanation (found on Rare Earth
Magnets.com) of the forces created by electricity flowing through a wire:
The magnetic field force produced by a current carrying wire can be greatly increased by shaping the
wire into a coil instead of a straight line. If wound in a coil shape,

Understanding Clinical Decision Support System
Understanding Clinical Decision Support System, Its Origin and the Changing Face
The Era has begun where a tremendous amount of data and silos of information are being generated.
The websites, blogs, the electronic health record are all jam packed with information. Posts from
Facebook, tweets from twitters, interactive websites are a rich source of information. If one can
imagine, information has as much as widespread as the universe. However, what happens to the heap
of information generated? Do we use the information to convert into knowledge and apply it to our
daily life? Are they helping physicians, patients and other clinical staff in their decision making? The
integration of all available information has resulted in Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS). This
system is invented to help the physicians and other clinical staff in decision making process. But the
question again is are they comfortable using CDSS. What if the users could write decision rule which
would be their own personal experience. If they could write their own rule will it increase their
acceptability? The article answers the questions raised and provides a brief description of a CDSS
developed by the Regenstrief Institute, which is contributing to an altogether different face of CDSS.
This, if successfully launched can result in better acceptability among users, which can solve other
user related or initiated difficulties.
CDSS are basically formulated with the intention to assist

Mid Term Probable cause does not rise to the level of proof beyond a reasonable doubt but must be
beyond a mere hunch or guess. The legal standard to a probable cause arrest is when an officer finds
evidence during a valid stop and frisk search that confirms the reasonable suspicion of an officer that a
crime has been or is being committed and would lead to the arrest of and offender. There are a variety
of sources to establish probable cause and they are personally observed facts by an officer,

The defense case in chief must mount a defense that either demolishes the prosecutor s case or, at a
bare minimum, creates reasonable doubt in the minds of the jury. A defendant has no burden of proofs
in any criminal case and can still prevail without introducing any evidence with the exception of
affirmative defenses. Based on the Fifth Amendment the defendant may choose not to testify to avoid
self incrimination. The defense counsel also calls defense witnesses for direct examination. Defense
testimony may also include expert witnesses who have special training and qualifications and are
permitted to offer opinions. The prosecution is permitted to cross examine each defense witness.
Reasonable Suspicion is a crime has or about to occur. If an officer has some suspicion of criminality
of a person they are allowed to do a limited stop and frisk of the individual just for the safety of the
officer. The Terry, courts have adapted the stop and frisk rationale to situations involving automobiles

proves unreasonable, and the officer reasonably believes the person is armed and dangerous, he or she
may conduct a limited search of the outer clothing. The facts that generate an officer s reasonable
basis to suspect criminal activity may be derived from the

Natural Sugar Vs. Artificial Sweeteners
Natural Sugar vs. Artificial Sweeteners by Kimberly Reynolds
The debate between naturally derived sugars and low calorie artificial sweeteners has been going on
for years now. As our population s obesity rate grows every year and health concerns related to weight
control grows along with it, natural sugar is scrutinized and we are told to keep away from it as it is
our enemy. Over the last couple of decades, we have been introduced to more and more varieties of
artificial sweeteners promising to deliver the same sweetness or even more sweetness than natural
sugar (some offer as much as 200 times more sweetness than sugar) but with a much lower calorie
content, or some even no calories at all. Artificial sweeteners such as Splenda, Sweet n Low,
NutraSweet, and Equal have become popular as better alternatives to table sugar, promising to help
battle weight gain and actually assist in losing weight. However, does this make it the healthier
option? As with all things, both natural sugar and artificial sugar have their pros and cons, but in order
to find the best option in regards to our health and futures, it s important to weigh them according to
scientific findings and research.
As we hear of more studies exclaiming alarming findings of negative health concerns related to
obesity and our continuously growing percentage of obesity in our country, particularly childhood
obesity, sugar is in the spotlight. We often hear of dieticians and weight loss experts warning us that

Story Of An Hour Women Oppression Research Paper
Oppression
Throughout history, women have been mistreated and have been valued as a property of men.
Specifically the oppression of women in the 19th centuries was when it was a major issue. Oppression
of women may not be a big discussion in today s world but it certainly doesn t mean it doesn t exist. In
Kate Chopin s The Story of an Hour Louise Mallard plays the common role of the house wife where
she lives her life in the shadow of her husband. Louise Mallard s marriage with Brently Mallard was
considered the norm back then and it is still now as well to a certain degree. Women s role back then

Society play s one of the biggest roles in the development of individuality for an individual. Women
who lack individualism are unstable to make their own decisions and in most cases they are robed of
their rights because they don t have the willpower to stand up for themselves. When it comes to
oppressed marriages, the husband plays the dominant role and he is mainly in control of everything
that goes in and out the household. The women don t get the slightest chance or the right to voice
themselves on anything. It s almost as if they are living in the shadow of their husbands. According to
Kate Chopin in the short story The Story of an Hour, Mrs. Mallard felt as if she was living for her
husband and not for herself, soon after he was considered to be dead she felt overjoyed that she finally
had the chance to live for herself (1157). After years of oppression Mrs. Mallard finally saw the
beauty of independence and she felt delighted. She finally felt free and had a chance to represent
herself and not her husband. Women need to dispute to possess their individual right s as it is a critical
step for independency. Individualism is the true granter of freedom because it s what separates

  • 2. Characteristics Of Mary Cooper The Admirable Traits of Mary Cooper By now, everyone has heard of a successful show on CBS called The Big Bang Theory (F. Belyeu (producer). (2007). The Big Bang Theory [Television Series]. Burbank CA, Columbia Broadcast System). It is a show about a small group of friends that mostly work at a university science department. Throw in a beautiful waitress and a quirky comic book store owner and you have the makings of a funny show. One of the main characters in this show, Sheldon Cooper, is so smart that he doesn t understand sarcasm. He lacks a sense of humor and doesn t have social skills that the rest of society has. Unlike Sheldon, his mother Mary, who is played by Laurie Metcalf, stands out in the show as a good role model for women of any age. She is a good and loving mother who never forces her beliefs on her son, yet she stands for what she believes in and loves her son, despite their vastly differing views on religion and science. Mary is a Texan through and through and it shows in her demeanor and some of the things she says. In talking about a religious retreat, she once went one she said, Oh, it is a hoot and a half. You write your sins on a clay pigeon, then fire em up in the air and you pulverize em with a twelve gage shotgun full of our Lord s forgiveness (The Rhinitis Revelation (television Series Episode) (October 2011). In The Big Bang Theory). Mary is also a devout Christian and works at her church. She has a strong faith in God and reads ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Arguments Against The Electoral College In the The Electoral College Is Important Because It Reflects the Will of the States, Charles Fried, a law professor at Harvard Law School and was solicitor general of the United States, argues that the Electoral College should continue. Due to the U.S.A being a direct democracy, the representatives and members of the electoral college are chosen by the citizens; however, they do not elect their presidents directly. He expresses that the states have their own political culture, personalities, and traditions, and they are not the administrative elements of the the federal government; therefore, they can only elect their governors by popular vote. I will use this source to show that the states successfully use the popular vote to elect their governors with focusing more on democracy; thus, the national government can elect the president by popular vote. I will also use this source to show that people should be the primary elements of the governments not the subsidiary. In States Don t Use Electoral College to Choose Their Leader, Neither Should the Nation, Akhil R. Amar, a law professor at Yale University and the author of the many of the books one of which is The Constitution Today: Timeless Lessons for the Issues of Our Era, argues that the Electoral College should be abolished because states choose their own governors directly; therefore, the federal government should use the same model when choosing its president. He proves that the direct technique that the states use is smart and working. He also claims that unlikely to the current election system, in a direct election system, states would have incentive to encourage people to vote. Political Instability in Modern African State POLITICAL INSTABILITY IN MODERN AFRICAN STATE, CAURSE, EFFECT AND SOLUTION INTRODUCTION The constant drumbeat of headlines about Darfur, Zimbabwe, Sudan, Somalia, Liberia as well as the other states in Africa that are beleaguered by political instability have made the causes of failed states and intra state political conflicts a major issue, both academic and practical. The International Day of Peace which was established by a United Nation resolution in 1982, and is marked every year on September 21, is a global event whose activities are significant in highlighting the worldwide efforts towards conflict resolution and peace building. How did this lead you to major in computer science and what do you hope to accomplish with your degree? In your answer, please describe how your experiences have influenced the goals you have for yourself. Every human has a purpose and every purpose has an ordained path and beginning. My interest in computer science came to light as soon as I began to walk, talk and think independently. I always had the innate passion and desire to scrutinize electronic devices even though I was still a child with little understanding. Being a little kid, my access to computers were constrained, but nonetheless, I made the best out of every opportunity I had with them. Time flew by like a dove as I suddenly began to grow in wisdom, and also began to understand what life is all about. Immediately I graduated from high school, I applied for a 3 month full time computer training before making any preparation for college. Unbeknownst to me, I was actually on a direct path to discovering my true potential in computer science and engineering. Financially and physically, it was a burden commuting from my home down to the computer training center, but the intrinsic passion and desire to get my hands on electronic devices and to learn more about how computers really work made me overlook the struggle. Neil Postman s writing AMUSING OURSELVES TO DEATH from 1985 brings up the concern about the use of new technology and how it s negatively affecting our society. Neil Postman s unique and very fitting title AMUSING OURSELVES TO DEATH helps to portray what Postman tries to explain through this writing. Postman also uses two authors Orwell who s the author of Nineteen Eighty Four and Huxley s who is the author of Brave New World . The transition from the market of ideas to the market of images that technology has made. Postman writing AMUSING OURSELVES TO DEATH conveys valid points about technology and the affect it has on society but it s debatable whether technology is good or bad. Postman s use of Orwell and Huxley to show that there can be a problem but two different reasons to why that has become a problem. The problem being that Postman believes that with the use of technology, we as a society will become useless. How does Orwell and Huxley fit into this well What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one (Postman 14). In 1970 s a period of deforestation began in Brazil with the construction of the Trans Amazon Highway; the road allowed migrant farmers to grow crops (Pulsipher Pulsipher 2012). Deforestation continued throughout Middle and South America. The use lodging of hardwoods, extracting minerals, oil, gas, stones and clearing off land for raising cattle, and growing crops has impacted most of the land in Middle and South America (Pulsipher Pulsipher 2012). Completing FAFSA is required to be eligible for over $24 billion in grants, loans, work study and even scholarships. Students must complete the FAFSA every year in order to continue to be eligible for financial aid. I think there are a lot of people who qualify that don t think they will qualify, so they don t fill out the FAFSA, said Briget Jans (sic), the executive director of student financial aid at UH. Jans said it s not unusual students with six figure family incomes to qualify for aid like subsidized loans, depending on their financial situation. Subsidized federal loans alone are worth filing the FAFSA for because students won t rack up interest while in school. More than federal aid Even if students don t qualify for federal financial aid, Jans encourages them to fill the FAFSA because it also qualifies students for state and university aid. Some primarily merit based UH scholarships have a need requirement. Without a FAFSA on file, students can t be considered for these scholarships. While the FAFSA opened this month, the UH scholarship application is open from Dec. 15 to Feb. 26. Just like our series hero Harry Potter, Snape was raised in the Muggle (non wizard people) setting till the age of eleven when he received his letter of admission into Hogwarts, school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. We know very little about the early life of Snape making it easy to believe that Voldemort and his ideologies were something Snape greatly admired, ( Snape knew more curses when he arrived to school then half of the kids in seventh year , according to Sirius Black). Snape had also invented a curse too, Sectumsempra (Half Blood Prince), which is rare for a student. He demonstrated no qualms to use the word mudblood (a foul word used for the muggle born or the impure) in the most derogatory sense (as Harry witness during his visit into Snape s worst memory in the Order of the Phoenix). He also fancied a nickname for himself, The Half Blood Prince, highlighting his wizarding heritage. These small facts, when taken together, are indicative to the reasons Snape may have chosen to become a Death Eater. His words and actions throughout the series indicate his need for power and respect, two attributes that the wizarding world accords to the Dark Lord, which may have been the strongest reason behind his decision to be Voldemort s follower and join the Death Eaters in his youth. Snape and Voldemort share the same tactic of intimidation through fear. However, the power and respect accorded to Voldemort was also accorded The Great Dumbledore. Moreover Dumbledore could offer two things to Snape that Voldemort could not and if could would not care to due to his selfish nature, and that is, unwavering trust and true friendship. Snape may have been Voldemort s favourite but he shows distrust in Snape when he appoints Peter Pettigrew to be Snape s assistance in Spinners End (The Half Blood Prince). Women were discouraged to pursue higher education and few were supervisors in the workplace. The family was to be composed of a husband, wife, and children. A particularly simple type of pattern, a mapping between input and output, can be learnt through a process called supervised learning. A supervised learning system is given training data consisting of example inputs and the corresponding outputs, and comes up with a model to explain those data (a process called function approximation). It does this by choosing from a class of model specified by the system s designer. [Nature. ANN 4] 5.1.1 Machine Learning Applied to the Air Engine The rapid growth of data sets means that machine learning can now use complex model classes and tackle highly non trivial inference problems. Such problems are usually characterized by several factors: The data are multi dimensional; the underlying pattern is complex (for instance, it might be nonlinear or changeable); and the designer has only weak prior knowledge about the problem in particular, a mechanistic understanding is lacking.
