While the flood stories from The Epic of Gilgamesh and the Bible contain some differences, they share notable similarities that indicate they may describe the same historical flood, as seen from different perspectives. Both stories describe a flood sent by God/the gods to punish humanity for its wickedness. They also share similarities in what was brought aboard the ark/boat - pairs of animals and family members. The birds sent out to search for land also appear in both accounts. 1. Apa Format Sample Essay Paper
Writing an essay on the topic of "APA Format Sample Essay Paper" can pose a considerable
challenge. Firstly, adhering to the strict guidelines of the APA format requires a meticulous
attention to detail. The American Psychological Association (APA) style is known for its specific
formatting rules, citation requirements, and overall structure. Ensuring that the title page,
abstract, main body, and references section align with these guidelines demands a thorough
understanding of the APA style manual.
Additionally, crafting a sample essay within the confines of the APA format necessitates
proficiency in academic writing. This involves creating a coherent introduction, developing a
well-organized body with clear arguments, and summarizing the key points effectively in the
conclusion. Juggling these aspects while ensuring that every citation is accurate and properly
formatted can be a daunting task for many students.
Moreover, staying updated with the latest edition of the APA style manual is crucial, as the
guidelines may evolve over time. This adds another layer of complexity, requiring the writer to
be vigilant about any changes or updates to the format.
In summary, writing an essay on the specified topic involves mastering the intricacies of the APA
format, demonstrating adept academic writing skills, and staying current with any modifications
to the style guidelines. It is a task that demands time, effort, and a keen eye for detail.

2. Analysis Of A Long Way Gone By Ishmael Beah
Over the past few months I took the opportunity presented to me in this class to
choose a memoir and write a piece about it later on in the semester. I decided to
choose a story that really stood out to me ever since I first picked it up off of the
bookshelf and read its introduction. The book is called A Long Way Gone, written
by Ishmael Beah. Ishmael Beah is an escaped soldier from the civil war that took
place in Sierra Leone in the mid to late 90 s. In A Long Way Gone, Beah reflects
upon his journey to America and the several trials he had to go through in order to
make it there.
When I first started researching the author of A Long Way Gone, Ishmael Beah, I
was completely amazed at his ability to overcome the mountainous obstacles he
has had to face in his life. Growing up in a third world country is challenging
enough, but to try and survive a civil war and at the same time be forced into
becoming a soldier seems almost unimaginable. On top of all of this, he had to
provide for his family and fight several of his friends from the same tribe who had
also been forced into becoming soldiers themselves. Despite all of this adversity, in
the end, Ishmael is able to escape death, and capture, and eventually flee Sierra
Leone to find a new home at a rehabilitation center in New York City. After reaching
this center, Ishmael is able to share his own incredible story, along with other children
forced into war with members at a convention at the United Nations.
When Ishmael
3. Forecasting Effects on Supply Chain
Analysis of Forecasting on Supply Chain
Background:
A supply chain is a network that performs functions from supplier s supplier to
customer s customer. It encompasses all the process involved in delivering the final
product to the final consumer. Supply chain is filled with various uncertainties such
as demand, process, and supply. Inventories are often used to protect the chain from
these uncertainties. The higher the variations the more the losses and every company
needs to minimize the variations and uncertainties in its supply chain.
There are various causes of uncertainties. Among them few that can be listed are
demand variations based on the type of product, the suppliers receipt variations which
depend on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also tells us the effect of forecasting on the planning.
We know about the bullwhip effect and the model shows clear signs of it. How the
change in forecast is affecting the demand given by the manufacturer to its supplier. It
shows clear signs within the firm itself where changes in demand by the customer is
encouraging sales people to buffer up their supply to meet the demand.
The model:
We are considering a mean demand of D, the variations sigma, lead time of 2 8
weeks depending on the parts.
As we can see the demand has been varying a lot in 2009. This has induced a
forecasting error by the sales people in the manufacturing organization.
It has been assumed that sales people fill the MDS data 3 months in advance for the
confirmed orders. Hence it can be easily seen how the variation in the original
forecast, the amount filled in the MDS and actual shipment delivered to the customer
changes.
Findings:
The bullwhip effect increases as the lead time increases. This is because the order
level needed and desired level needed are proportional to the lead time. This causes
amplifying of inventory. There can also be other delays like delaying order placing.
Here as we can see the decentralization has caused different forecast. This issue
becomes more complicated downstream as can be seen from the chart. There is a
high increase in the variation of the demand. The equilibrium depends not only on the
quantities ordered
4. Ap Euro Dbq The German Peasants Revolt
The German Peasants Revolt arose due to the various interpretations of Martin Luther
s ideals. Also, the peasants desire to end serfdom and seek equality within the social
classes led to the revolt. The responses of the revolt varied from condemnation to
sympathy and support towards the peasants. Some authors believed that the peasants
urge to end their serfdomled to the revolt (Doc. 2, 3, 4). In Document 2, Sebastian
Lotzer states that the lords should not take advantage of the peasants, but rather
compensate them for their hard work. He continues by stating that the peasants
should not be oppressed by their lords. In Document 3, The Parliament of Swabia,
made up of peasants, was a petition. Since the petition held the demands of the
peasants the document is not very reliable. It is biased because it is reasonable to
assume that these were widely held views among the peasantry of this area. Within
the document, the basis of religion is used to release serfs, saying that they will
obey all authority appointed by God so serfdom must be gone. In Document 4, the
Memmingen Town Council replies to the peasants demands made in Document 3, for
their release from serfdom. Based on the document, the town council, made up of
educated people , would be predictable because the... Show more content on

In Document 7, Martin Luther condemns the peasants for their actions. He
compares them to raging mad dogs. Martin Luther s response is predictable because
the peasants used his ideals to form the base of their revolt. It all stems from his
postings of his 95 theses in 1517 and his attack on indulgences. Martin Luther sought
protection in princes, so he spoke against the peasants who had rebelled against these
princes in order to continue to have protection. In Document 1, Leonhard von Eck
also condemns the peasants. He states that they have been led astray by the demands
of the Word of God, the gospel, and brotherly
5. The Road At The Intersection Of S.h
Although driving to and from places is a normal part of many people s daily
routine, it is often forgotten that driving is a dangerous task that demands all
attention of a driver for the safety of the occupants of a vehicle. For our safety,
cities must provide the best roads and intersections to keep driving a safeguarded
activity. As a resident of Tomball and a driver on the roads, I have noticed that the
feeder roadat the intersection of S.H. 249 and F.M. 2920 located next to Lowe s
and Chase Bank has caused big issues for drivers. Ever since S.H. 249 became a
toll road, many Tomball residents have avoided paying high fees for driving short
distances by taking this service road. This has caused much more traffic, especially,
during rush hour around this area. Many businesses such as Ross, Target, Academy,
and Chick Fil A are located here, and are contributing factors to the congestion. I
myself have had a few close calls at this intersection. However, the issue did not
become apparent to me until my best friend was in an accident at this intersection.
Fortunately, she walked away from the accident unharmed, but her brand new car was
totalled. Losing anyone at this intersection would be devastating for myself and my
community.
S.H. 249 South is the main problem, it often gets backed up past the entire Lowe s
parking lot. This road consists of three lanes: the far left lane being a turn only lane,
the middle lane being a lane that turns left and goes straight, and the far
6. Unit 3 Listening Assignment
Listening Assignment Each day I listen to hundreds of different conversations,
songs, and lectures. While I listen, I have also realized that I encounter a lot of
other noise around me. Listening begins the moment I wake up, and it does not
end until the moment I go to sleep. While doing this listening log, I learned a lot
about how I listen and why I listen. The first day that I really began to pay attention
to what I listened to, I found out that I listen to a lot of things for enjoyment also
known as appreciative listening. It all started when I got woke up by roommate s
alarm clock going off to the song It Girl. Now, I do not know if I can completely
consider this appreciative listening because I did not enjoy getting woke up that
much, but I do enjoy that song. At that moment, when the alarm went off, I had no
other noisesurrounding me and this was the only time throughout the day that this
occurred. I also found myself listening to music as I drove to Nora Springs for my
field experience class and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before doing this log, I did not realize how much of this I did every day. Empathic
listening occurred in my days while doing this log when I listen to my roommates
talk about if they were physically hurting from a workout and how they hoped it
would get better. These conversations occurred typically while icing and we would
discuss our pains and give each other the support that we needed at the time. The
other times when I caught myself empathic listening was when I was talking to
someone who was stressed out about school. It may just be that they are struggling in
one class but I listened to them because that is what they needed at the time. Again,
from doing this log I learned that empathic listening is crucial and every person needs
someone to listen to them empathically. As the listener you do not always have much
input but just being there is typical all the person
7. Simone Biless Research Papers
Many people probably had no clue who Simon was before the Olympics . Now she
is one of the best Gymnast in the world, Actually the best gymnast in the world.
Simone dominated her compotation in this year s Olympics. As a team the USA
beet the chines by a total of ten points. Simone Biles is the best Gymnast in the
world because she won 5 medals in the Olympics, she also is the 3 time world
champion. However, Simone did not grab a spot in the uneven bars final in the
Olympics. One reason Simone Biles is the best Gymnast in the world is she got
the all around gold medal in Rio this past summer. She got an all around score of
62.998 and her teammate ally got a 60.098. Simone beat her by almost 3 points
witch is a lot in the world of gymnastics. The all around gold is not the only medal
Simone left Rio with. She won gold on floor, and vault. Plus, a bronze on beam. All

At the time Simone was only 15 years old and could not compete in the Olympics.
That did not stop her, that year she won the world championship and the two years
following that. She is the first girl to win it three years in a row. Now this I think is
pretty amazing , Simone Biles has not lost a competition since
8. Nursing Process Analysis
The five steps of the nursing process are: assessment, diagnosis, outcome
identification and planning, implementation, and evaluation. The nursing process has
been around since the late 1950 s and was developed by Ida Jean Orlando, however
this process was not institutionalized until 1973 when the American Nurses
Association Congress for Nursing Practice established Standards of Practice for
direct nursing performance. The assessment process is the first of 5 steps in the
nursing process and is very important and significant. Not only does assessment give
you a baseline for your patient, it also helps you to understand any underlying issues
that the patient may be having. Assessment provides an introduction into the next
step of the nursing process: planning and diagnosing, without assessing a patient first
we would not be able to plan and organize concepts to come up with a diagnosis.
Assessment, physical assessment, health history, and psychosocial assessment are not
separated from other nursing assessment task. They all seem to go together when
doing an assessment. Assessment, which also includes physical assessment, is a very
significant part of the nursing process. During assessment you collect important
patient data using skills such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Medical ;diagnosis deals with the disease or medical condition whereas nursing
diagnosis deals with human response to actual or potential health problems and life
processes. During a medical diagnosis, assessment is used to supply an underlying
cause for the patient s signs and symptoms. In comparison, a nursing diagnosis
provides an accurate representation of the patient s present condition for the purpose
of establishing a baseline of information so that provision of care may be holistic.
Therefore, a medical diagnosis and a nursing diagnosis are well defined processes
that may lead to the advancement of two distinctive cognitive
9. Congestion Charge Is An Influential Transport Policy...
Introduction: Road congestion charging is an influential transport policy agenda. As
the demand cars for has tremendously increased within the past century and therefore,
roads have witnessed an astonishing level of congestion. This brought forward the
implementation of the congestion charge. In particular, the issue of congestion
charge has received great attention since it was first introduced in 2003, by the mayor
of London. That charge ВЈ11.50 daily for traveling in the designated zone between
07:00 18:00? (TfL, 2008). This paper will deal with significant improvement of the
policy, but will not look at the cost associated with the policy. Congestion charge is
beneficial to the society; it reduces traffic levels in an efficient way to ensure profits
are being made from the charge. Most notably influencing airborne pollutants.
However, it is vital to examine this area in order to access the effectiveness of
congestion charge scheme implementation, moreover. Several studies have shown
that the congestion charge has been effective in its implementation (Ishikawa and
Asada, 2007); whilst other studies have proven otherwise (Mahendra, 2010). The
question remains, evaluating London congestion chargescheme policy for the
government transport sector. This paper will argue that there have been significant
improvements, since the introduction of the scheme. It will begin by outlining on
how congestion levels have reduced, then go on to provide the revenues generated
from the
10. My Greatest Failure Research Paper
Malcolm Forbes publisher of Forbes magazine once said Failure is success if we
learn from it. In life we as humans have many ups and downs, trials and tribulations,
failures and success. However it is what we do with our most sever downfalls that
lead to some of our greatest achievements. For example my greatest failure was
when I was in the eighth grade I applied to go to the City Of Medicine Academy
however I was not accepted.Although I was not able to attend the City Of Medicine
I was able to attend one of the most innovative and extraordinary high schools in

However when the time came for everyone to get their acceptance letters I watched
as all my friends received there acceptance letters, and posted the pictures of them
on different social media websites but I never got one.As time went by I realized
that I had not been accepted into the City of Medicine Academy. I felt like a total
failure I didn t know whether, my grades weren t good enough, or if my teacher
gave me a bad recommendation or maybe I because they saw something in me that
was unsuitable for their school. It was like my game plan had been thrown off I
had planned to go to City Of Medicine Academy, then Howard University for my
Bachelor degree and then UNC Chapel Hill for my master and doctorate degree.
Nonetheless even though I was not accepted into City Of medicine academy I
ended up going to the school that I was suppose to go to Hillside New Tech.
Although Hillside New Tech s curriculum is not the same as the City Of Medicine
Academy I have found success in being a student here. Since I have been
11. The Afro Bolivian Community Of Kalakala
Sweat beaded down my back as I paused to think about where I could use the
bathroom. I turned around to see my host mother carefully and swiftly picking the
coca leaves one by one and stuffing them into a bag that was tied around her waist.
The voice of Jorge Medina, an afro Bolivian advocate echoed from the radio next to
her. The government has taken significant steps to recognize the Afro Bolivian
population in the census, but more work still needs to be done. In many of rural
areas Afro Bolivians still do not have access to quality education and even learning
their history in schools. Many Afro Bolivian farmers do not have clean water in
their homes or do not have bathrooms. Just then my host mother looked up at me.
Slightly embarrassed I asked, her where can I use the bathroom. She pointed to a
bush nearby, make sure you go quickly and duck so no one sees you. Before doing
fieldwork in the Afro Bolivian community of KalaKala, I did not anticipate asking
the questions like where would I use the bathroom? Would there be clean running
water to drink? In fact, these questions were far from my mind. My notebook was
filled with other questions that focused on the emerging Afro Bolivian movement
and with notes of interviews with Afro Bolivian activist in the city of La Paz. I was
intrigued by their answers that were filled with hope that change was coming. I
young Afro Bolivian activist in the activist group ORISBOL told me, We are two
percent of the population, but we
12. Intentional Misuse by Members of the NSA
There have been at least 12 cases of intentional misuse by members of the NSA
since 2003. Before trial the accused either resigned or retired to escape disciplinary
action. This means that they did spy on people because if they did not they would
go to the trial and be found innocent. However they could have all been paid to
retire by the government to hide a more sinister threat such as terrorist demands or
even aliens! Not only have the NSA been caught spying on American citizens but
they have been caught spying on European leaders, most notably the German
Chancellor. The German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, is believed to be the most

13. Hardships In The Grapes Of Wrath By Rudy Ruettiger
Josh Turner once said, Life is a series of punches. It presents a lot of challenges. It
presents a lot of hardship, but the people that are able to take those punches and
able to move forward are the ones that really do have a lot of success and have a lot
of joy in their life and have a lot of stories to tell, too (Hardship Quotes). Rudy
Ruettiger had many struggles in his life that set him back. He has taken those
punches from life and moved forward getting closer to his dream every step of the
way. He defied everyone s doubts and beat the odds. This man wanted so badly to
get into Notre Dame and he did just that. Shawn Grim, on the other hand, was a
man who did not come from a very successful family. He had to work harder than
ever before just to attempt to achieve his dream. Shawn did not succeed at his dream
and was filled with heartbreak because of it. Rudy Ruettiger and Shawn Grim both

Strategic Crossroads at Matav: Hungary s Telecom Powerhouse
Assignment 1
What is Matav s Strategy? Has it been successful?
Matav, being the Hungarian Telecommunications Powerhouse, had secured their
foothold in most of the communications market in Hungary, including business
services, residential services, Internet and Mobile. Their parent company Deutsche
Telekom wanted them to remain an integrated telecommunications company. Since
their objectives were laid out in front of them, they were facing a stagnant fixed
mobile market in Hungary with the only scope of expansion being the broadband
market. So their primary focus was on competitive response to the core customer

Matav is a telecommunications powerhouse. It has the infrastructure, the ability, the
foresight and the manpower to match any competition the foreign companies can
offer.
Matav is a well established integrated communications company and has footholds in
all the four markets of residential, business, internet and mobile. They already have a
lot of customer market in the Hungarian environment. Familiarity with the local
policies, business and customers makes Matav even more powerful when it comes to
dealing with competition. It could add additional services by implementing new
technologies on the current infrastructure to the current customer base and could also
attract a lot of customers by giving bundled service like fixed and mobile or fixed
and internet together.
Do Matav s international expansion plans make sense? Why?
Matav was taken over by a European Telecommunications giant. The line was clear.
Since the domestic market was completely overwhelmed by Matav, the only logical
place to expand further was another European company. Matav is already an
integrated telecommunications powerhouse. There is no new market it can create or
develop within its own country to sustain development for it. There has to be
competition and scope for expansion by introducing new technology into third world
countries. This is very attractive when offered at a lower price than your local
provider. Matav s international plans make sense to me for precisely

presented that four dimensional (4D) modeling has gained much potential in
improving construction process design and planning. It gave readers a description
about the tradition approach in Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plant construction
and the development of it. Then the author described a process of an example
where 4D models were applied to an offshore LNG plant construction project. At
last the paper made a conclusion that the 4D models played an important tool for
LNG construction projects and planning and the scheduling of resources. The
focus of this article is similar to a topic covered in CVEN 638. The topic is Digital

Eleanor Roosevelt (1884 1962), one of the most admired women in American
history, acted as first lady from 1933 until 1945, longer than any other presidential
spouse, and put that position on the nation s political map. Yet, ironically, Eleanor
did not want the job because she thought it would hamper her own self development
as an independent person. Through her own path breaking efforts she transformed
her role from official hostess to important spokesperson for her husband s
administration. In the process she became a role model for millions of Americans
who applauded her activism on behalf of social causes.
When her husband, Franklin D. Roosevelt, who had been unable to walk for eleven
years due to infantile paralysis, was elected president in the depths of the
Depression in 1932, she wrote in her autobiography that she was happy for him.
She believed that being president would make up for the blow that fate had dealt
him and that he would steer the country through the crisis confronting it.[1] But for
herself, she continued, I was deeply troubled. As I saw it, this meant the end of any

Because of this Maliki knew that he would take drastic political movement for him

Next time you are walking through the Art Institute of Chicago I would highly

floor, gallery 292A. Here you will find a tantalizing array of modern day
contemporary art that delivers a sensory overload wherever you turn. Nestled in
between the copiousness of talent you will find three offerings from a prominent
living contemporary artist called Jasper Johnstitled Alphabet (1959), Figure 4
(1959), and Target (1961). Although at times his work faced rejection from the
critics of individualism of abstract expressionists his life s journey sculptured his
path to who he is as a person and who he has become as a modern day renowned
contemporary artist.
In 1958, gallery owner Leo Castelli discovered Johns while visiting the Rauschenberg
s studio. This was an important time in Johns art career as his style had started to
settle more into contemporary art due to his personal relationship with Robert
Rauschenberg. According to The Society for Contemporary Art Castelli gave him
his first solo show. It was here that Alfred Barr, the founding director of New York s
Museum of Modern Art, purchased four works from this show. In the latter part of
the 1950 s, Jasper Johns arose as the shinning star in the American art scene
(Wildfire Media 2015). His paintings of maps, flags, and targets led the artistic
community away from Abstract Expressionism toward a new emphasis of Neo Dada

The theory of alienation developed by Karl Marx depicts the estrangement of
people due to living in a capitalist system of production. Through the manuscript
Estranged Labor from his Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts of 1844, Marx
describes his theory of alienation and specifies on the four types of ways in which
the worker is alienated. A vivid example of Marx s theory of alienation can be seen
through Charlie Chaplin s comedy film Modern Times. In his film, the central idea
of the theory of labor alienation and how the worker is affected by the alienation
are depicted. The notion of alienation depicted in Marx s Estranged Labor is also
depicted in Chaplin s Modern Times. In Marx s Economic and Philosophic
Manuscripts of 1844, he explains the process of how workers become alienated
from living in a capitalist society through his Estranged Labor manuscript. Marx
specifies on the four aspects in which the worker is estranged from his labor:
product, labor, self, and man. Charlie Chaplin s film Modern Times also shows a
notion of alienation of the worker. The beginning of the film first shows the process
in which every worker does his own job. Soon, it begins to show viewers the harsh
and inhumane working conditions of the workers. Constantly having to do the same
job over and over again, the first few minutes of the film span out how Chaplin
slowly begins to lose his mind. These two different works can be connected through
the notions of the alienation of labor.

Prince George s County filed identical petitions against two stores: Atlantic
Department Store, Inc. and George s Radio and Television, Inc. that violated Md.
Ann. Code art. 27, В§ 534H. The stores went to trial and claimed that the Code

30. Characteristics Of Heroism In Mother Teresa
Heroism
Being a hero does not mean you have to run into a burning building and save four
people single handedly, while you re putting out the fire with your mind. Heroism in
today s world is seen in many forms. There are firemen and soldiers, fathers and
mothers, encouragers and uplifters. All these can be forms of true heroism. It is
simply becoming part of something bigger than yourself, just as Joseph Campbell
says, A herois someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than
oneself. The many qualities of heroism are selflessness, humility, fearlessness,
patience, and perseverance. These characteristics are evident in a lifestyle such as
Mother Teresa s.
Selflessness needs to be a bigger part of the world today. Too many people are so
absorbed with themselves that they don t prioritize helping out someone else in
need. A hero to me is someone who dives into action without regard for their own
safety. Not like a reckless behavior suicide mission, but a real thought out plan with
positive results, whether it be organizing a food and clothes basket or planning an
army mission in foreign countries. Selflessness is evident in Mother Teresa s life
everywhere you look. She risked catching incurable diseases, being a target to some
who hated her work, and she devoted all of her time to help others instead of herself.
Heroes can also be people who use words and patience instead of running into
burning buildings or going to war for our country, which are great

TITLE:
IN VITRO MEAT
WHAT IS IN VITRO MEAT?
In vitro meat is an animal flesh product that does not bring harm to a developed,
living animal in order for it to be produced. Every year, 10 billion animals are killed
(this number is increasing) in the US, just to serve humans needs. Implementing In
Vitro meat into people s lives will allow people to eat healthier, save lives, and will
reduce the emission of greenhouse gasses. In theory, a single cell of an animal can
be enough to feed the whole population of the world with meat. Earth s population is
predicted to rise to approximately 9 billion, thus finding a sustainable system to today
s meat production is critical.
INTRODUCING THE PROBLEM:
Currently there are 7 billion mouths to feed worldwide, and that number will only
increase to 9 billion by 2050. As a result, the demand for meat is expected to grow
by more than two thirds, which means we will need to produce 70% more meat on
the same amount of land currently being cultivated and harvested for food
production. 26% of Earth s ice free surface alone is used just for grazing livestock.
Traditional means of producing meat for human consumption suffer from
inefficiency. On average, animal protein production in the U.S. requires 28 calories
of feed for every calorie of meat produced, according to ... Show more content on

32. My Career Choice Ever Since I
Education has been my career choice ever since I began high school. Through the
many years of experience education has allowed me to grow in knowledge,
understanding, and professionalism. As I have earned a master s degree and now
on a journey to attain a doctorate degree, education is once again allowing me to
develop and stretch myself even more. My family has always been supportive of
my endeavors; of course while I was growing and developing into a young adult
my parents had more of a voice in my decisions and would help point me in the
right direction. As I matured my wife and children filled the role of being the
supportive team that I relied on to keep me grounded. Disruptions of time spent
together, activities attended by only one parent and at times dealing with a parent
that was quick to anger because of a lack of sleep or dealing with stress of another
homework assignment due date. There are times I am not engaged with my family
and do not cope well with life s challenges and I don t approach the day very well
(Boers, 2012). Along with supporting my educational desires, they have also
supported my attempts to increase my salary by moving from the elementary school
level to the high schoollevel. My family had to learn to deal with a parent being
away from home more in the evening because of the transition from one job to the
other. In my present position as an assistant principal I am not comfortable sharing
my deepest feelings with teachers.
33. The Black Friday Takeover Essay
Mommy, why didn t I get what I wanted for Thanksgiving this year? This question
seems absurd in a modern day context, but in the future, it could be a question that is
asked much too often. With holiday themed advertisements in the media and holiday
discount deals already visible on the shelves, it is no wonder that Black Fridayand the
holiday shopping season are creeping up closer and closer to Thanksgiving. Black
Friday is a popular phrase used to describe the chaotic shopping frenzy that takes
place every year on the Friday after Thanksgiving. In recent years, the chaos of this
so called holiday has only escalated; consumers are trampling one another to get the
best deals, and retailers are scrambling to keep up with their... Show more content on

Many Thanksgiving celebrations today are still centered around getting together
with family and friends and giving thanks. The term Black Friday was first used,
according to US News Digital Weekly, in 1869 in reference to a stock market crash
on the day after Thanksgiving that year. US News Digital Weekly says that it was
again used in 1951 to describe the high number of workers that skipped work that
day. Eventually, employers started giving workers the day after Thanksgiving as a
vacation day. In turn, many of the workers used this day to start their shopping for
the holiday season, making the day after the Thanksgiving a day that many stores
started making huge profits. If a business has a profitable market, they are
considered in the black . This is likely what brought about the modern meaning of
the phrase Black Friday. However, it wasn t until 2004 that Black Friday was
officially considered the biggest shopping day of the year...according to data from
retail analyst ShopperTrak, (Tozzi). Today, stores everywhere have Black Friday
sales with almost comically low prices on merchandise to entice potential customers
and drive them away from competing stores.
Recently, America s obsession with Black Friday has generated various opinions on
the day itself, its proximity to Thanksgiving, and the morality of the holiday
shopping season. Many view Thanksgiving as a sacred holiday and are appalled that
retailers would even consider the idea of
34. Winter Blast Short Story
You know that moment when you cross the finish line and the adrenaline and
excitement rushes over you? And in the moment you think to yourself, Because I
persevered, I accomplished my goals. That is exactly how I felt two years ago
when I crossed my finish line... It started on a chilly February morning at my church
s Youth Camp Retreat, called Winter Blast . My friends had tried to persuade me all
morning to climb the two story ropes course, in the barn at the top of the hill.
Come on Amanda, how do you know you won t like it unless you try it? Nora asked
as she pulled on her tennis shoes.
I just know, I m terrified of heights and I don t want to fall, I protested back as I
crawled out of bed.
After more persuasion and pleading I eventually gave in, and we exited our cabin
and headed towards the hill. My nerves grew by the second as I neared the giant
opening. We gazed upward as we entered the barn. Climbers of all shapes and sizes
were many stories up, climbing through the obstacle courses.
The barn was cold and dim lighted. The musty smell of the barn filled my nostrils. It
made me feel as though I had entered a Haunted House. People screamed as the ropes
above shook with the wind being brought in through the holes in the wall.
New climbers head this way! Shouted a voice to the right. I turned and followed my
group of friends over to the man talking.
After all of the climbers were in a half circle around the man, he began speaking.
My name is Westley and I will be your harness instructor. Wesley spoke about all the
safety rules you need to know in order to climb; things like how to attach your
harness to the overhead ropes and how to climb up to the next story.
After all of the rules were shared and everyone got their harnesses on, we were
released to go up to the first story of obstacle courses. My heart pounded in my chest
as I neared the rope ladder going up to the first level. I took a deep breath.
Amanda you can do this, I mumbled to myself as I put my hand on the rope ladder. I
slowly climbed higher and higher until I reached the top rung. I took another deep
breath and climbed onto the platform. As I stood up, a climbing instructor attached
my harness clamps to the overhead rope.
35. Theme Of Hector And Irruin In The History Boys
Hector is the Hero of Act One and Irwin is the Villain How far do you agree?
In Allan Bennett s, The History Boys, controversial teachers hector and Irwin are
made out as one hero and the other a villain. The ability to be able to distinguish
these complex characters as a hero, a person who is admired for their admirable
nature; or a villain, who s immoral and erroneous actions characterise them distinctly;
is irrelevant as they both harbour characteristics seen as desirable and distasteful.
Both Hector and Irwin display qualities characteristic of being both a hero and villain,
therefore neither being solely one or the other. Hector and Irwin are neither solely a
hero or villain as they both commit actions that are typical of being a tragic Hero
(Hector) and an Anti hero (Irwin).
Hector can be seen as the Hero in this play as his want for his students to be
enriched by education portrays him as a cool and revered mentor. To become this
figure that appeals to the audience, hector s teaching style is portrayed as
irrelevant, interesting and energetic. Irrelevance is affirmed by his use of French in
the comedic prostitute scene (p12 19). The use of the French language in the
dialogue is used to convey how connected the boys and Hector are. The flourishing
nature of French presents a kind of mystery to their fun; to all that don t understand,
it s like being left out of a club. By having his general studies lesson in French,
completely off topic, Hector gains the

Spirits or distilled beverages are types of alcoholic drinks which are produced by
distillation of a mixture produced from alcoholic fermentation. Spirits are often called
hard liquor or simply liquor . The distillation process of spirits excludes the diluting
water component results in increasing the alcohol content in the drinks. Unlike, beer
and wine, distilled spirits contain no added sugar and their ABV content is ~20%.
Distilled spirits are the types of alcoholic beverages where the concentration of ethyl
alcohol has been increased over and above that of the original fermented mixture.

It is a spirit produced by distilling wine, and is generally taken as an after dinner
drink, or to warm the body during cold temperatures. Some of its varieties are

replicate the effect of aging, while others are produced as an outcome of these two
processes. ABV ranges between 35% and 60%.
Cognac is a variety of brandy which is made from the most expensive fruit plucked

allowed to age in oak barrels. ABV ranges between 40% and 45%.
Liqueurs are distilled alcoholic drinks which derives their flavor from fruits, cream,
herbs, spices, flowers or nuts, and bottled with added sugar or other sweetener
which may include high fructose corn syrup. Unlike brandy, liqueurs are not
allowed to age for longer periods, but are allowed to rest for the ingredients to blend

Whiskey is merely beer which has been distilled. It is a distilled alcoholic beverage
which is obtained from the fermented mash of grain, distilled at lower than 190

38. Loyalty Between Loyalty And Loyalty
The concept of loyalty comes in many different forms, and can also be defined in
multiple ways by different types of people. On the other hand, loyalty can also be
viewed as a virtue that may be hard to define at times. Loyalty is something that
every living being has. A dog is loyal to his owner because they provide the dog
with food, shelter, and love. A kid is loyal to their parents for keeping them alive
and well. Even though loyalty can be tested at times, the people who are there from
the beginning will still be there at the end, if their loyalty really stands true. An
American novelist, essayist, bookseller and screenwriter, Larry McMurtry, once said
that the whole point of loyalty was not to change: stick with those who stuck with...

the amazing, one in a lifetime deal. Pat later says that the Cardinals drafted me in
the seventh round. They believed in me. I love the coaches here. I can t bring
myself to take an offer from the Rams (Krakauer 130). This shows that even with
the knowledge of the abundant money that he was going to turn down, Pat had no
doubts about turning down the offer by the Rams. He chose to stay loyal to his
team, rather than going to a new team that had more to offer him. Pat valued his
team more than he valued money. He saw that the Cardinals believed in him and that
they were there for him since the start. No amount of money could be offered to him
to make him leave his team.
Even though Pat Tillman s loyalty was a good kind of loyalty, can there also be a bad
type of loyalty? Some may argue that misplaced loyalty is a form of loyalty, while
others do not see it as that, but rather something that is opposite to loyalty. The
definition of misplaced loyalty is loyalty that is not acknowledged or respected.
Most often or not, this type of loyalty can lead to betrayal or being taken advantage
of and can also put one s self respect, integrity, and sanity at risk. Bad influences are
the main reason why people misplace their loyalty in the wrong type of people.
In society, misplaced loyalty has a huge

Stereotypes affect people throughout the world by creating doubts about identities.
Where is my Country by Nellie Wong expresses the loss of identity from various
stereotypes that specify her absence or present characteristics of a stereotypical
Asian. People, who rely on stereotypes, influence Wong into writing a poem arguing
about the negative impacts. Despite many wrong classifications, the statements vary
from each other, confusing Wong of whom to believe when stereotypes identify her

40. Alcoholism As A Family Disease
It is estimated that the number of adults, in the United States, who abuse alcohol or
are alcohol dependent is approximates 17.6 million, or 8.46 percent of adults
(Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 2015). These statistics
present a primary health concern (Hart Kisr, 2013). Still yet, an additional concern is
warranted because of the family influences on the development of problems with
alcohol and the risk for family members developing alcoholismand other mental or
behavioral issues (National Institute on Alcohol Abuseand Alcoholism, 2005).
Evidence points to problems with alcohol that are associated with various family
factors, such as spousal and parental use, use by children, family principles and
attitudes about alcohol consumption, dynamics of family and patterns of
relationship, and interplay of alcohol with biological and genetic factors (NIAAA,
2005). Alcoholism is considered a family disease all members are affected, thus,
those who are concerned the most about the alcoholic are affected the most (Al

Throughout this world of unique individuals, the majority of human beings have
generally conformed into different societal norms that follow one path and one dream
without stopping to think of an alternative path. Complications step in front of
individual prosperity and these obstacles spring from the pressures of the popular
society. Within the short story, A Hunger Artist, by Franz Kafka, the author proves
and disproves a point best stated by Robin George Collinwood, that; Perfect
freedom is reserved for the man who lives by his own work and in that work, does
what he wants to do. The protagonist, within this short story, freely chooses his career

In the artist s quest for superiority, he uses his suffering to produce a feeling more
intense and emotional than his audience. Eventually, the audience loses interest in
the hunger artist and is able to easily glimpse at the anguish and happily move past it.
This combination of dependency, need for support, and feeling of superiority
signifies the hunger artist s endless dissatisfaction with himself. The society
subconsciously pushes the hunger artist into a vicious cycle of suffrage as he
continues to do what he claims to love, ultimately resulting in societal dominance.
The hunger artist, at best, is in complete control over is pain and hunger as he
exercises his free will to do what he chooses. Throughout the story, the hunger artist
proves time and time again to be a living contradiction. At one point, the artist
admits that fasting is easy, but at the end he confesses that he was simply never
able to find any food he liked; For he alone knew....how easy it was to fast, But you
shouldn t admire it...because I couldn t find the food I liked (Kafka). The hunger
artist is constantly alienated from the world and is never accepted by society.
Metaphorically speaking, the act of fasting represents suffrage and an abused free
will. Had the world been more compliant to this unique profession, the hunger artist
would not have suffered and good could have sparked from all this. As the society
moves in one direction, the one that chooses to take the path less

Emerging victoriously from World War II, America became the leader of the free
market capitalist world, and proved to be a military, economic, and political
powerhouse. However, as one major war came to a close, another battle was brewing
between the democratic United States and the communist Soviet Union. As the
Soviet Unionexpanded farther West into Europe, America as well as its NATO allies
worked together in an effort to contain the USSR s expanding communist party. The
Cold War went far beyond a battle between different ideologies. Rather, it developed
into a global conflict where espionage, treason, and massive propaganda campaigns
were inflicted on all aspects of individuals lives internationally. The plausibility of
communismseeping into the confinements of the United States caused nation wide
fear to erupt. American businesses feared the idea of a communistic revolution on the
basis that it would disturb the very groundwork that holds capitalism together. As a
result, the House Un American Activities Committee(HUAC) was formed to
investigate communist and fascist organizations within America. Unfortunately, the
controversial tactics used during the HUAC hearings contributed to the fear,
blacklisting, and repression that existed from 1940 through the 1950s. In the midst of
the Cold War, several American opinions materialized concerning the role of the
HUAC, in which Americans either praised the committee for its patriotic ideals,

Since World War II, Italian society has profoundly changed, with a significant
impact on daily life. One of the main elements of change is the more visible role
women play in society outside the home, such as increased participation in higher

records one of the lowest average numbers of children per woman in the world, as
well as some of the lowest birth and fertility rates. (Brittanica Online Encyclopedia)

Abstract A paradigm for multiple input multiple output (MIMO) channel modeling
demands diversity technique to compensate the effects of fading and shadowing.
In this paper, error performance of MIMO system is analyzed with orthogonal
space time block code (OSTBC) and maximal ratio combining (MRC) techniques
over Weibull gamma (WG) fading channel. WG distribution forms a composite
channel model which is used to determine the effects of multipath as well as
shadowing. Closed form expressions for symbol error rate (SER) are computed for
MIMO systems using OSTBC and MRC in this scenario. Consequently, the effects
of fading severity by varying shape parameters are also shown by simulation and
analytical results. Keywords Multiple input multiple output (MIMO), orthogonal
space time block code (OSTBC), maximal ratio combining (MRC), Weibull gamma
(WG) fading, symbol error rate (SER). Introduction In the present wireless systems,
the demand of proliferation of bandwidth for high data rate and reliable
communication requirement is increasing. Multiple input multiple output (MIMO)
systems are investigated to achieve these requirements. Also, diversity techniques
are recommended to increase the reliability of system. Orthogonal space time block
codes (OSTBCs) are employed in MIMO systems to achieve the full transmit
diversity while allowing a simple maximum likelihood decoding algorithm. This
algorithm is based on linear processing of received signals [1 2]. MIMO system uses

Yeezus is probably best summed up by the first sound you hear after turning it on. A
deafening distorted synth assaults your ears while Kanye reminds us that he s
number one. This overwhelming introduction was specifically chosen by Kanye for
the purpose of conveying the themes of anger and frustration that will appear
throughout the album. It s marked by songs where Kanye declares himself a God and
moments of the most extreme egoism in modern music.
Ye is...shockingly different. It begins with a quiet passage of what I think is
manipulated vocals creating a simple, relaxed melody. Kanye starts rapping about
something we ve never really heard him discuss before: his internal monologue. It
sounds calm, like a warm summer morning. Kanye isn t yelling, he s not telling us

47. The Parasite And Its Effects On The Human Body
5. a. Dracunculus medinensis, or the Guinea worm, has plagued humanity for
thousands of years. This parasite enters the human body initially as larvae from
drinking water. As the worms grow older, they begin to approach the skin of the
individual. The worm causes blisters on the skin that burst and cause massive pain.
In order to extinguish the pain, victims jump into water; however, the water
provides a better situation for the worm to reproduce, so the parasite releases
larvae. In other words, the parasite manipulates a host to behave a certain way. The
easiest way to combat the parasite is to avoid soothing the pain in the water, since
the parasite will fail to deploy the larvae. b. Hymenoepimecis argyraphaga, a wasp,
has a parasitic relationship with a spider, Plesiometa argyra. The wasp injects
poison into the spider, paralysing it; afterwards, the wasp places an egg on top of
the spider s abdomen. The egg quickly hatches and the resulting larva sucks the
blood of the spider. Eventually, it manipulates the spider through the use of
chemicals, making the spider move back and forth while weaving a web
specifically designed to act as a cocoon for the larva. When the web is complete,
the larva sucks all of the spider s blood and drops the remains to the jungle floor.
Scientists, however, have yet to pinpoint the actual method the larva uses to
manipulate the host. The biochemical it uses is extremely potent, as it has been
tested to last a few days. c.

Claiborne in profitability four out of the last five years. Standing out among the
profitability figures is Jones year ended 1998, in which the company eclipsed Liz s
profitability by over 2.5 percent. Jones profitability slipped substantially from year
ended 1998 to 1999, from 9.19 percent to 5.98 percent. During Liz Claiborne s
same relative period, the company s profitability fell only one tenth of a percent,
from 6.68 percent to 6.58 percent. However, Jones Apparel Group battled back in
year ended 2000 posting 7.29 percent profitability, as compared to Liz s 5.95
percent figure, a differential of more than one and one third of a percent. While
these differences may seem quite arbitrary, Jones total revenues year ended 2000
were $ 4.14 billion compared to Liz Claiborne s $ 3.10 billion. Net incomes for
Jones and Liz were $ 301.9 million and $ 184.6 respectively. With dollar amounts this

in order to break free or the negative and self defeating patterns of behaviour.

51. The Time Period Of Transcendentalism
The time period of transcendentalism changed the views of many people through
setting different principles otherwise known as tenets. These tenets I am going to
focus on is: confidence, self reliance, free thought, nonconformity, and the
importance of nature. Transcendentalism was a philosophical movement in the
1800 s where people responded to the strict rules back then. They declared that they
didn t have to follow all of the rules and decided to go off of independent tenets.
Many pieces of literature contain some or all of these tenets, the ones I m going to
discuss and analyze today are Still I Rise by Maya Angelou that focuses on self
reliance and stanza 1 and 52 from Song of Myself by Walt Whitmanwhich focuses on
all tenets of transcendentalism. All of the 5 tenets are very important, but the one that
overcomes all the others in my life is confidence. Many pieces of literature contain
at least all tenets, but reference them in different ways. Although there are tons of
poems out there that contain some of the principles, I focused on Maya Angelou
and her poem Still I Rise. The poem, Still I Rise written by Maya Angelou has a
main focus of self reliance, but can express all tenets of transcendentalism depending
on how you interpret each stanza. Still I Rise is a poem about Maya Angelou relying
on herself and standing up for what she believes in. Throughout the poem, you can
see that self reliance is the most prominent tenet Angelou uses, using repetition to say

52. Ownership Of Sense Of Self Identity
The ownership of something can range from material possessions to your skills and
self identity. The relationship between ownership and development of sense of self
has had creative thinkers wondering for centuries, What does is mean to own
something? From personal thought, I believe that ownership is within yourself. It
declares a sense of achievement. What we take ownership of shows everyone our
characteristics. For example, buying a new car on your own for the first time, the
feeling after you have after you just scored the winning point for your team, and/or
the effects of your kind actions.
Everyone owns material possessions and everyone owns something unique. Our
strong materialistic society tends to associate your material wealth
53. Essay on Opium (Papaver somniferum)
Opium (Papaver somniferum)
The opium poppy has been used as a medicinal plant for centuries all over the
world. The opium poppy plant belongs to the Papaveraceae family. The scientific
name of the opium poppy is Papaver somniferum L., and it is native to Turkey. The
plant has lobed leaves, milky sap and four to six petaled flowers with several
stamens surrounding the ovary. The two sepals drop off when the petals unfold.
The ovary then develops into a short, many seeded capsule that opens in dry
weather. The small seeds of the opium poppy plant are dispersed by wind. The plant
has five inch purple or white flowers on plants three to sixteen feet tall. It is and
annual plant which needs to be planted only once for several years of ... Show more

There are manufactured alkaloid derivatives that include dihydromorphine,
dihydrocodeine and heroin. The alkaloids can be of two different types. One type
acts on the nervous system and are addictive to the human body. The other form is
not addicting and instead relax muscle groups.
Papaver Somniferum has been used since Greek times to relieve suffering and
euphoria. Records indicate that the opium poppy has been used since the time of
Mesopotamia (5000 to 4000 BC). The records refer to the poppy and its use as
opiates as medical tablets. Homer s writings indicate Greek usage of the substance at
least by 90OBC: Hippocrates made extensive use of medicinal herbs including opium
(see Britannica Online).
It is believed that the Romans probably learned of opium in the Mediterranean.
Opium spread to places all over the world. In China opium was reported as a problem
during the seventeenth century. Between World War I and H the cultivation of opium
grew in Central America in the mountains. Now the major producers and exporters of
opium are Turkey and India (Britannica Online).
Opium was definitely used in more recent times as well. Before the nineteenth
century there were few painkillers available. There were few alternatives to using
opiates to end suffering for dying people. Long ago opium was not considered
harmful and was available to everyone. Doctors advised taking opiates to relieve a
number of symptoms

I. LANDING GEAR SAFETY DEVICES
Most airplanes with a retractable landing gear have a gear warning horn that will
sound when the airplane is configured for landing and the landing gear is not down
and locked. Normally, the horn is linked to the throttle or flap position, and/or the
airspeed indicator so that when the airplane is below a certain airspeed, configuration,
or power setting with the gear retracted, the warning horn will sound. Accidental
retraction of a landing gear may be prevented by such devices as mechanical
downlocks, safety switches, and ground locks. Mechanical downlocks are built in
components of a gear retraction system and are operated automatically by the gear
retraction system. To prevent accidental operation of the... Show more content on

What happens is that atomic hydrogen found in such substances interacts chemically
with the high tensile steel in the gear, causing the affected areas to transform
chemically into a brittle alloy with a risk of fracturing. The only way to counteract
hydrogen embrittlement is to remove the affected component and bake it in a special
oven at 375 F for 23 hours, Lind tells AMT. This allows the hydrogen atoms to
migrate to the surface and then escape.
Maintenance best practices
When damaged aircraft landing gear comes into the shop, it costs more to overhaul
than landing gear that has been maintained properly. Here is what you can do to
keep your landing gear costs down. The first step is lubrication. It may sound
simple, but insufficient lubrication during regular usage causes unnecessary wear
and tear in many of the system s components. Lubrication is critical to the
movement of all articulated parts and joints of landing gear, says Lind. Proper
lubrication ensures smooth functioning, less friction and wear, and the appropriate
transfer of forces throughout the gear during use. Lubrication is key to keeping out
water, de icing fluid, and other corrosion causing substances. Make no mistake;
corrosion is a real problem for landing gear. Before you lubricate, be sure to check
the aircraft s manual to find out what substances you can and cannot use. In some
cases, using the
