Limiting Children s Access to Internet Pornography
Pornography is one of mankind s most revered, respected, and repulsed pastimes. Adults can use
pornography to relieve stress, enhance their sex lives, or simply as a means of entertainment. One of
the easiest and most popular ways of obtaining pornographic material is over the Internet. The only
downside is that the Internet is accessible to children; therefore, pornography is accessible to children.
While adults should have limitless access to Internet porn, minors should be kept away from this
concubine.
Usage of Internet pornography grows rapidly every day. It can be accessed easily enough by anyone
that wishes to see the material, has a modem, and some times a wishful intent. The material ranges
from semi nude photos to videos ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Internet has experienced an extraordinary growth. The number of host computers—those that store
information and relay communications—increased from about 300 in 1981 to approximately 9,400,000
by the time of the trial in 1996. Roughly 60% of these hosts are located in the United States. About 40
million people used the Internet at the time of trial, a number that expected to mushroom to 200
million by 2000. How can it be possible to regulate all Internet transmissions with user numbers at
200 million?
Another problem that arises is the fact that not all Internet sites can quantifiably prove that the user
wishing to browse their domain is of legal age. An annoy mailer can be used to hide the identity of the
user. Some sites require the use of a credit card in order to view its contents, but credit card numbers
are easy to obtain. This limitation of proof is being minutely controlled by a number of sites dedicated
to helping parents censor what their children see. This might possibly be the first step in what will
protect the American children from viewing obscene material. One such site, Mcgruff.com, gives
Internet safety tips for parents. It explains to tell children about the Internet, and how to let parents
know if there are any materials or persons online that makes a child feel uncomfortable. In addition,

The Hungry Workshop, By Graphic Designers, Simon And Jenna...
Melbourne letterpress printing and graphic design studio, The Hungry Workshop, was founded by
graphic designers, Simon and Jenna Hipgrave. The married couple met studying at University together
in Queensland and after graduating from Graphic Design; each spent six years working in industry.
Simon was an art director at large advertising agency, Junior, which was a contrast to Jenna s work in
a boutique graphic design studio called Oblong. Through their contrasting industry experiences the
pair developed a complimentary skill set. Simon s strength is in his conceptual approach and
consistency of ideas throughout a project, while Jenna is very detail orientated, suiting areas such as
quality control and finished artwork. First learning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With each project that is completed, the studio maintains key values that underline the process that
include hold(ing) in equal regard the process and craftsmanship while exploring the boundaries of
print through letterpress, colour and tactility . There is a large emphasis on craft and the importance of
ownership of the process. These key principles are aligned with key philosophies of the British Arts
and Crafts movement, which occurred as a result of the Industrial Revolution.
The Industrial Revolution resulted in changes to living and working conditions. Rather than the village
lifestyle that supported families working in small groups to oversee local production, there was a shift
in population from rural landscapes to vast cities. This resulted in work in factory settings. Fredreich
Engels describes how this caused the isolation of the individual in his book The Condition of the
Working Class in England . The working class were especially sacrificed, being subject to
overcrowding, and inappropriate conditions. Engels describes the unhygienic living and working
conditions including rough, dirty unpaved streets that lacked sewers and gutters. This contributed to
the spread of disease. Factories were made for the machine, and the work was autonomous with
workers being assigned one part of a production

My Sister Letter
It is difficult to even begin this letter, little sister, because I simply don t know where to start. We have
been through plenty of trials and tribulations and I know very well how mature you are for your young
age but there remain some pieces of the story that you don t know of. I am not here to tell you of them,
but there are some things that are impossible to understand without an outside nudge, and I hope that
in doing this you will come to accept the things I tell you, so that when certain pieces come to light,
you may look upon it without pain. People are not perfect. People are not always kind. People are not
always well intentioned. And the truth is: our parents are people too. You know this because despite all
that I have done in my attempts to shield you, you have seen them upset. You have seen them weep.
You have seen them scream. You have watched our mother starving herself, disappear for hours at a
time after haphazardly throwing about words of death. You have watched our father shut down, sleep
for days, become frustrated at himself and at the world. You have sat with your brother and I in a
police car as our father was taken to prison, cried without understanding as our mother wept, hidden as
we have hidden. You were pulled into this world without wanting any of this, without knowing it, and
only with our brother and I to guide your confusion as you came into the middle of the crisis. The
problem is well, the problem is that since our parents are

Chemical Warfare Research Paper
Chemical warfare has been around for a very long time, since 4000 BC when the spartans attacked the
Athenians with long hay and sulfur in them to try to get the Athenians to come out, that attack failed
the coughing Athenians never did leave. No one used Chemicals for a long time, though they were
aware of them. Then a man named Fritz harbor saw power in them, he was helping the german out by
his fertilizer discovery but, he saw something else in the fertilizer. He saw weapons of destruction so
he made a fluorine bomb which will bring fiery tears to a grown man s eyes . Fritz put fluorine in a
canister then had soldiers use it against the Russians but, the gas froze in the arctic tundra in Russia.
He then moved to his brother Chlorine or Mustard gas. this was used against the british and canadian

Hitler did however use chemicals in concentration camps, in those he used Zyklon B. Zyklon B was
an interesting chemical because instead of gas it was pellets. After it mixes with the air it lets out a
bitter almond odor. The chemical then combines with red blood cells then suffocates you. It also left a
blue stain in the gas chambers which can still be seen to day if the gas chamber is in tact. Zyklon was
a very bad chemical that killed hundreds of thousands jews in the concentration camps.
Chemical treaties after WWI where chemicals caused over 1 million casualties the geneva protocol

Roy s pleasure was short‐lived, unfortunately. Two days later, Evelia burst into the store, excited to see
the album. She was very angry when Roy explained that he had sold the album. Evelia told Roy that
he had made her a promise to give her the first opportunity to purchase the record and that she planned
to sue him for breaking this promise. She also told him that she would never set foot in his store again;
she would take all her business to Roy s competitor (and arch‐rival), Malcolm. The loss of Evelia s
business will hurt Roy s bottom line. Not only did Evelia buy a lot of records, but she also referred
many of her wealthy friends to Roy. Still, the thing that Roy worries about most at this point is being
sued and being found liable for breaking his promise to Evelia.

A Polytheistic Religion
Being a polytheistic religion, Hindus worship multiple Gods. Although a lot of the different gods are
said to be different avatars of the trimurti, in a sense, each God represents an ideal quality or role one
must follow to in order to follow their Dharma. As shown in a lot of the readings each God has a
different quality and these qualities in a sense serve as model behaviors a true believer must follow in
order to follow the path of Dharma. For example, Goddess Durga, is considered to be a very good role
model of Feminist movements in India. It is said that she represents the the violent and destructive
qualities of the Mother Goddess (Shakti). She is known to protect mankind from the evil by destroying
evil forces such as selfishness, anger,

Pikeminnow Recovery Case Study
Each policy has issues or points that are not agreed upon by everyone entirely. Although there were
several issues with Section 7, the specific issue was the uncertainty that came with gauging the goals
of the recovery program along with the issue that the goals of the program were not specific with
location or amount. Criteria for gauging the progress of the goals were not clear. For example,
Brunner et al. stated that a recovery goal for the Colorado pikeminnow was to maintain and protect
self sustaining populations and natural habitat. The issue with this is that there was no concrete way to
measure if the pikeminnow populations were actually self sustaining. Another addition to the
uncertainty issue was that the area the program was attempting to cover was so larger that it was
difficult to determine who would be responsible for fish recovery or inadequate progress in the
recovery. Several agencies and groups were represented during the negotiations of the recovery
program. The most relevant was the Fish and Wildlife Service, who essentially guided the entire
process. Corporate water users also played a big role when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Frederick Douglass s Response To The Abolishment Of...
At first, Frederick Douglass was apprehensive about speaking in front of a large audience on slavery,
but once he gathered his courage, he received a warm welcome. This encouraged Douglass to speak
freely for the abolishment of slavery. He felt addressing the overall principle was more pertinent at
that moment than the solutions to end slavery.
Since British Christians were directly affiliated with the British, Douglass first thought their
opposition to slavery might hinder efforts to abolish slavery given their close ties. However, Douglass
later changed his views, as he thought given the prevalence and severity of slavery, it would take the
influence of England to help combat slavery, as their dominance rose above any authorities in the ...

He suggested that slaves should question why they should obey their masters aside from being
commanded to do.
Douglass told the group about the outcome of Sambo, a slave who was disobedient and did not
complete his work within two and a half hours as directed by his slave owner. As a result, Sambo
received lashings from his slave owner. Douglass contrasted this with reasons why obedience is
necessary in the words of slave owners. In other words, if slaves wanted to be well fed, cared for, and
receive favors from their masters, then they should be obedient. However, in Sambo s example, he
took a nap and was given a lashing, which is quite the opposite of being well cared for or receiving
favors.
Douglass discussed how owners sought to convince slaves why they should obey their masters. Slave
owners informed their slaves that the Lord brought them to the Christian country to experience the
kingdom of heaven because the Lord saw their desperation in Africa, as they worked intensely to
make ends meet. According to slave owners, the Lord empowered Bishop Newton to take the slaves
from Africa to relieve them from their despair. In return, owners expected the slaves to be thankful and
obedient to their slave masters for being in the Christian country, as they would not have the
opportunity to enter the kingdom of heaven without

Endurance, Leadership, Attitude, And Perseverance
Endurance by Alfred Lansing is an astonishing true story of how a group of twenty eight men survived
in the Antarctic for two years, thanks primarily to one man s leadership, attitude, and perseverance.
The Imperial Trans Atlantic Expedition was headed by Ernest Shackleton, an explorer and
consummate leader of men. Shackleton used his gut feeling to hand pick his crew, ensuring they knew
that success would be rewarded but also aware that a safe return home is not guaranteed. Shackleton
chose men with a mixture of skill sets and was sure to consider how each member would fit in with
the team. As a leader he understood when to allow individuals to utilize their strengths while still
leading a holistic team. Shackleton was gifted with an uncanny ability to overcome conflict,
communicate with his followers, as well as remain flexible during any situation. The following briefly
recounts the story with my thoughts weaved in...
After years of tedious fundraising and preparation of his ship, Ernest Shackleton and his crew of

Bay Of Fundy
In the Bay of Fundy the incoming tidal waters can overpower the flow of estuaries and rivers. This
extraordinary phenomenon is known as a tidal bore and occurs twice daily. At high tide, a massive
volume of seawater floods out of the Bay of Fundy into the rivers which feed it. The narrowing
riverbanks force the soaring waters in a amazing surge and often a visible standing wave, in some
cases 1 meter (3 feet) tall! In addition, 3 to 3.5 meters (10 12 feet) high rapids are generated in the
wake of the roaring and swirling tidal water as it charges upstream at speeds near 15 kilometers per
hour (10 miles per hour)! Many estuaries and rivers draining into the northern parts of the Bay of

Nowadays, United States is often associated with the term melting pot , which refers to the
assimilation of immigrants who were initially heterogeneous with their own distinct backgrounds.
Corresponding to that fact, racial discrimination has been significantly reduced within melting pot , in
which people gradually understand the differences between them without aversion. However, back in
the past, many Americans conceived of Asians as strangers. They were not willing to understand and
embrace the biological and cultural differences that set Asian immigrants apart from Europeans and
early Americans. Coolie trade, which brought numerous Asian immigrants to the United States as

their own American dream to achieve citizenships and prosperity, and in order to accomplish their
goals, they kept on working despite harsh and unfair working conditions. However, one distinction
that can be made between Asian immigrants and American laborers was there was no justice for
Asians. They were purposely denied the resources to defend themselves and influence legislation by
Americans like Samuel Gompers who deviously published lies that suggested that Asian immigrants
were willing to accept the poor working conditions and low wages in order to dominate over their

American and European laborers started to view them as threats and lobbied for discriminatory laws

Theme Of Revenge In The Revenant
Blinded by Vengeance In the world today, it seems as if a mistaken glance, a change of plans, or even
an insufficient amount of exclamation points is enough to get someone mad at you. And not just a
couple of days of the cold shoulder, but grudges full of petty revenge schemes. A mean comment on
their photo, tripping them in the hallway, blocking their account... pretty stupid decisions can come
from a misunderstood argument. Michael Punke s book talks about the same things; animosity and
bitterness, vengeance and outbreak. Except Fitzgerald didn t ghost Glass, and Bridger didn t send him
the wrong emoji. They stole his survival supplies and left him alone to be killed by Native Americans,
right after Glass was attacked by a bear. It s pretty clear that Glass didn t take the high road. And this
wasn t some half attempted scheme for vengeance. No, Hugh Glass crawled on his hands and knees
for miles in pursuit of killing the two who betrayed him. And though other characters in the book
show hints of revenge, Glass is the character who shows the most radically clear signs of it, and his
undying pursuit is what most clearly develops the theme. In The Revenant, the author Michael Punke
uses the character Hugh Glass s hunt for revenge to show that strong emotions and the desire for
revenge can blind us from the most basic logic, and cause us to make irrational decisions. The first
instance in which we begin to see Glass irrational attempts of revenge is in the very

Abuse Of Power And Corruption In Chinatown By Robert Towne
Powerful men often feel invincible. Harvey Weinstein is one among these men who feel invincible and
use their position to harm others. He manipulated women and took advantage of his position as a
producer in Hollywood with disregard for any consequences. Harvey Weinstein has been the center of
rape allegations that have made the world shed light on the sexual harassment in Hollywood. As more
and more victims come forth after decades of coercion, Weinstein s inappropriate behavior is finally
being examined. In fact, this type of perversion and exploitation of title is too familiar. Chinatown by
Robert Towne emphasizes the results of power in the world as it leads to corruption and a lethal world
created by it. The tragic film reminds us that unfortunately corruption does prevail but the truth may
offer some solace and be a step towards an end. In order to analyze corruption s existence, it must be
defined. In this sense, corruption is an abuse of power. Abuse can occur in any dynamic of
relationship. Furthermore, when a person with power has any type of relationship, there is always a
possibility that corruption is involved. For example, we most often associate the word with politicians,
who have power over ordinary citizens. However, we could also think of power relationships as
family dynamics, work dynamics or any person of power over another. In Weinstein s case, Weinstein
took advantage of the superiority he held as a film producer over actresses and potential

Hybridity in Arudhati Roy s The God of Small Things Postcolonialism deals with the effects of
colonization on cultures and societies. As originally used by historians after the Second World War in
terms such as the post colonial state, post colonial had a clearly chronological meaning, designating
the post independence period. However, from the late 1970s the term has been used by literary critics
to discuss the various cultural effects of colonization. The term has been widely used to signfy the

It is a story about the childhood experiences of a pair of fraternal twins who become victims of
circumstance. The book is a description of how the small things in life build up, translate into people s

southwest India. The main part of the plot takes place in 1969, a time when the caste system in India
was still very strongly imbedded. It is also the time of increased awareness around the world and a
peak of communist ideology and influence. India is a very complex society with various cultural and
religious habits and beliefs. Hindus, Buddhists, Christians and Muslims share the same space. Society
is divided not only by the very strict caste system but also by class consciousness. There are a number
of languages spoken in India, but the higher classes make a point of speaking English, sending their
sons to study in England and adopting certain English habits.Kerala, where the story is set itself has a
complex social setup with Hindus, Muslims and Christians having lifestyle and traditions different

Introduction Of Existentialism In Beowulf

In the vast variety of personal situations, we all fluctuate in our decision making, but I believe we

Beowulf exposes Unferth s shortcomings, but he explains it through piercingly negative manner.
Unferth surely is shallow minded for questioning Beowulf however the deprecation and harsh rebuttal
provides no help for the situation. Beowulf has absolutely no respect for Unferth even knowing such
personal information about him. The lack of sensitivity only feeds into Beowulf s supremacy and he
has no motive to possibly have Unferth help him in this dire situation of a monster. Beowulf thinks his
higher achievements garner arrogant and degrading actions. In the novel s final encounter of the
original hero and villain, Grendel falls into Beowulf s control. The defeated Grendel describes, He
smashes me against [the wall], breaks open my forehead. Hard, yes! Observe the hardness, write it

Why Is Running On A Treadmill Speech
Good morning / afternoon
My speech will be done on Is running on a treadmill more effective then running on the road
Running in general is a full body exercise, no matter if it s on a treadmill or just running on open road.
It has been debated since treadmills came out if they are better than road running. I do believe that
running on a treadmill is not the same as running on the road. Yes they are both forms of exercises but
I do believe one is more effective than the other. So I m going to give you a full brief on why I think
so.
Treadmills are a training machine, normally found at the gym or in one s home. They have many parts
that make it operate. There is something called the belt, which is the moving surface you see and feel
when standing on a treadmill. This belt gives assistance to the runners leg turnover , there is also no

no effect on your running. You also won t find environmental challenges that will cause you to stop

face today with road running. You got to constantly be on the lookout , you can have anything
distracting you like music through headphones where that could not allow you to hear what s going on

Comparing Thank You Ma Am And The Road Not Taken
There will be a time when we must choose between what is easy and what is right (J.K. Rowling,
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire). Making the right choice can be difficult. Sometimes the
circumstances can be challenging to overcome. Maybe people will judge you because your choice
went against the social norm. It is because of this that doing the right thing takes courage. People can
get this courage from many different places. In the commentary Doing the Right Thing by Rick Reilly,
the short story Thank You, Ma am by Langston Hughes, and the poem The Road Not Taken by Robert
Frost the characters all found their courage from their pasts, role models, and themselfs.
The past can influence the future. The outcome of decisions made long ago ... Show more content on

People who inspire them to do the right thing no matter the circumstances. Another place the
characters in Doing the Right Thing, Thank You Ma am, and The Road Not Taken found courage was
from role models. This is shown the most in the text The Road Not Taken. When the football players
had the option to steal they get the courage to pay for the items from their parents and family
members. If there s one one thing I ve learned about parenting it s that the best gift you can give your
kid is someone they d hate to disappoint. (Reilly 23) and These four young men had that someone
when it mattered most. For Biondi, it was his mother. For Gallimore, it was his whole family, who
now call him Honest Abe. For James, it was his father. (Reilly 24). These quotes show that these four
boys all had people that they looked up to that taught them wrong from right. So when the time came
to decide between wrong and right, they found courage from these role models to do the right thing. In
Thank You Ma am Rodger has the choice to run from Mrs. Jones, but instead he decides to stay and
eat dinner with her. I think Rodger found the courage to do this from, Mrs. Jones, who became a role
model to to him. You ought to be my son. I would teach you right from wrong. (Hughes 15). This
quote shows that Mrs. Jones took Rodger in and decided to help guide him and his decisions. Well,
you didn t have to snatch my pocketbook to get some suede shoes, said Mrs. Luella Bates Washington
Jones. You could of asked me. (Hughes 30). This quote shows that Mrs. Jones teaches Rodger the
decision he should ve made under the circumstances he was in. It is because Mrs. Jones modeled for
Rodger the difference between right and wrong that he found the courage to stay with Mrs. Jones. In
The Road Not Taken the traveler found the courage to take the right road from from other people that

King Charles V Research Paper
Let s start with Protestants. The time period I m going to be talking about was when King Charles V
was in charge. King Charles V was the Holy Roman Emperor of Spain and many low countries. While
he was ruling, in 1530, many German Princes joined Lutheranism and opposed him. Due to that he
became controlling and many others join Lutheranism as well. Charles V waged war on Protestant
Germany to try and get control back to the catholic church he did not do so great. But there are some
other people who came up with new religions as well, like John Calvin who started Calvinism. Calvin
also published a book in 1536 called Institutes of the Christian Religion . King Henry VIII came up
with Englanism because he wanted to divorce his wife. Now to

Analysis Of Legally Blonde The Musical
Humorous, energetic, enjoyable and all around fun, Legally Blonde: The Musical captured my
attention from the get go. This comical yet heartwarming musical portrays the story of a young
woman following an ex love to Harvard Law School only to realize the potential she possessed within
herself and in the new life she creates for her own. After viewing this hit Broadway production, I am
fascinated with how this theatre play was brought to life on stage with the lighting, sound, spacing and
overall entertainment from the cast to the costumes. Altogether, this play is one of my all time favorite
productions and it is one that keeps my attention from the moment it takes off to the closing of the
curtain at the end.
Legally Blonde: The Musical starts off by capturing the audience s attention and winning their hearts
with the characters and the acting that takes place in this performance. The main character, Elle
Woods, played by Laura Bell Bundy in the Broadway production, soared though this musical with her
singing, dancing and radiating energy. Bundy was a sight to see on the stage as she made every line
believable while achieving at looking like she was having the time of her life throughout the entire
production. The thing that stuck out the most was the amount of emotion that was poured into this
performance from every single character, minor or major, taking part. From scenes such as Elle
finding out she got Callahan s law internship to the famous Bend and Snap scene,

Quarrels Across Cultures-Personal Narrative
After the confrontation was discussed for two hours, a Pomo, Tall as Summer Corn, spoke, staring into
the blazing fire. There s another quarrel that has been threatening the peace south of here. I was
trading for clamshell beads with the Ohlone people last summer. (They lived in the Santa Cruz area,
southwest of San Francisco Bay.) The Pomo trader added, grimly, Two villages nearly engaged in full
scale warfare over grievances each side had built up over time. The easterners are trespassers, one man
announced, They take our geese and ducks, never bring gifts when they visit, pick our acorns and now
one man has raped a local woman! This call for revenge stirred up the people of the aggrieved village.
In spite of the respective Headmen attempting to quell the anger growing on both sides, a western
speaker argued for a line battle ...to teach those eastern devils a lesson . This angered the other village
and within six days, in the meadow that separated the two villages, two forces faced each other.

Negative Effects Of Hip Hop
While many rappers were able to make money on the new movement the majority of that money did
not go into fixing up and nourishing the black community. This is evident in the music videos and
song lyrics that brag about spending money on luxurious items, drugs, alcohol, and women instead of
things that actually bolster the community. Yes, it is both unrealistic and unfair to put hip hop on a
pedestal and assume that it would completely reform the economy of a community, but its influence
was and still is deeply rooted and powerful enough to have the ability to bring positive changes to the
black community in the United States. Hip hop has brought negative changes to the community so it is
definitely not far fetched to think that it has the ability to bring positive changes. Hip Hop was a
distraction from the real problems and focused in its early years on partying, having fun, and acquiring
material objects (). Hip Hop was essential a black redefining of the American dream which is argued
by Professor Damon Sajnani to be the denial of socioeconomic stratification in the United States, ().
Hip Hop took from the prevalent idea of the American Dream that happiness [came] with success, and
success is measured in material acquisitions (DAMON). This idea is riddled with delusions as many
black people ended up spending lots of money on material objects such as expensive shoes but still
lived the reality of poverty. This can be observed today in many black neighborhoods

Hepatitis C Virus ( Hcv )
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a small (~55 to 65 nm), spherical enveloped virus that can cause major
illness. Hepatitis C was discovered after the intense investigations between 1982 and 1988 in Chiron
corporation. Michael Houghton discovered the non A and non B hepatitis by using the molecular
approach. Hepatitis C affects liver caused by the hepatitis virus; the virus can cause acute and chronic
hepatitis infection ranging from a mild illness to severity, lifelong illness. Mostly patients are affected
with acute infection; however, chronic hepatitis is caused by liver cirrhosis a severe scarring which
can lead to liver failure. HCV affects more than 185 million people worldwide. The rate of chronic
hepatitis is affected by race, gender, and viral immune response. Depending on the certain region,
hepatitis C infections can be concentrated in certain populations or in general populations. The HCV
have high genetic diversity which is characterized by regional variation which makes treating the
infection more challenging. Hepatitis patients are often prescribed ribavirin and interferon; but current
research is developing new therapeutic drugs which will be less toxic and can be targeted to each
genotype. This review will provide the historical, and scientific aspects of hepatitis C virus.

Demi Lovato s Credibility
Credibility is a very important thing for a person to have. A person that has credibility is a person who
you can trust and believer in. You can have credibility for different things. For example, Bill Gates has
a great amount of credibility with electronics. Demi Lovato shows why credibility is an important
quality and how their actions can affect it. Demi Lovato s career started when she was six years old on
the children s show Barney Friends (Demi Lovato s Career). She was on the show for two seasons. In
2006, Lovato had a couple small roles on different televisions shows. She also starred is Disney s
television short series As the Bell Rings in 2007 for one season. Lovato s first big break was in 2008
when she starred in the Disney Channel movie Camp Rock with the Jonas Brothers. Later that year,
she released her debut album Don t Forget, which she advertised when she opened for the Jonas
Brothers on their tour. Soon after, she starred in her own television show Sonny With A Chance (Demi
Lovato s Career). In 2010 she starred in Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. Shortly after, she had to quit
Sonny With a Chance when she entered rehab. In November of 2010, Lovato entered a treatment
facility after she got in a fight with one of her dancers (Demi Lovato 1). She went out partying with
some of the band and crew members and Lovato assumed that the dancer told on her. When Demi

Hispanic-American Culture
Culture: Entertainment, Holidays, Clothing
When thinking about Hispanic parties, most people think of piñatas, traditional hollow papier mâché
creations filled with candy. Each child at the party is blindfolded and given a stick to try and break the
piñata, spilling the candy onto the ground for all the children to collect (Explore Hispanic Culture,
2012). However, researchers believe this tradition extends back to Mayan times, where clay pots filled
with gifts were broken open and considered to be favors from the gods (EHC, 2012).
Mariachis are also traditionally present during Hispanic American celebrations. These bands of

Summary Of Saints By Nancy Scheper-Hughes
The typical Irish personality as seen through the ethnography of Nancy Scheper Hughes is similar
among the Irish population. The reason we see these similar traits among the Irish population is
because of the hardships that the people go through as they are raised from children to adults. Ireland
is known for their high rates of diagnosed mental illness. Through the author s fieldwork we are able
to learn about the personality traits found among the Irish. Nancy Scheper Hughes states that, the
Republic of Ireland has the highest hospitalization treatment rate for mental illness in the world
(Scheper Hughes 60). The book titled, Saints, Scholars, and Schizophrenics Mental Illness in Rural
Ireland, talks about the mental illness Schizophrenia and mentions reasons why the Irish population
has been diagnosed with so many cases. Scheper Hughes observes, Schizophrenia is the core problem
more than half of the patients are so diagnosed (Scheper Hughes 60). The reason behind these
diagnosed mental illnesses has a lot to do with the way the Irish are raised. Most of the Irish
population is raised in a similar way, which does not allow them to make decisions for themselves.
There are certain social and cultural values that Irish parents place upon their children, which may be
the reason why there are so many cases of mental illness seen throughout Ireland. One reason that may
affect these children is the pressure put on them by parents. In Irish culture at least one

Reflective Essay On The Clothesline Project
On October 26th, 2017, I attended the clothesline project. I had very little knowledge of the
clothesline project, so I thought by attending I could expand my horizons. The Clothesline Project was
held at the memorial union in the ballroom. Our role, as a participant, was to stay very quiet and look
at the displayed shirts and items. I knew the event dealt with violence, but that was about it. According
to the clothesline project website, it states The Clothesline Project provides evidence that incest,
domestic violence, and sexual violence exists in our communities. It is a visual reminder of statistics
that we often ignore. It gives a voice to those who have been forcibly silenced. Hopefully, it stirs us to
action. A public must be informed about violence in order to act to prevent it . The clothesline project
started in 1990. A group of women decided to create this event because a plethora of girls were
harmed during the Vietnam war. The website also listed what each color of shirt meant. For example,
white t shirts stood for people who have died because of violence. After my research I was kind of
nervous to attend, I didn t really want to hear about battered women and abused kids. Going into it, I
knew nothing other than the research I had done. I had a feeling it was just going to make me
heartbroken. When I got there, I became silent and just took everything in.
No one in my family has never dealt with any type of abuse, rape, violence, etc. Since I ve never heard
of it happening to anyone close to me, I believed it wasn t that common. I ve seen terrible things on
the news, but I believed it could never happen where I live. I walked in expecting maybe twenty to
thirty shirts. Little did I know the entire ballroom would be filled with t shirts. A story that made me
realize it can happen to anyone was Dru Sjodin s. There was a table set up in the front of the room,
this table consisted of personal belongings to some of the women who had passed on. I was drawn to
Dru s spot on the table because of the unique plate. Dru was a student at UND, who was last seen at
Columbia Mall parking lot. About five months later, Dru s body was found in a ravine located in
Crookston, Minnesota. I could not believe

Macrohih2a1 Case Study
MacroH2A1.1 overexpressing cells display ameliorated glucose metabolism, 214 reduced expression
of lipogenic genes and fatty acid content (40). These associative 215 studies indicate a possible
conserved involvement of macroH2A1 isoforms, in lipid 216 metabolism. A number of mechanistic
studies using animal have explored this 217 possibility, yielding conflicting outcomes (Table II). Two
mouse models with a 218 macroH2A1 knockout have been reported under a standard diet feeding. In
the first 219 model, generated in the pure C57Bl/6J background, developmental changes in 220
macroH2A1 mediated gene regulation were observed (42): up regulation of 221 lipogenic genes was

The changes in lipogenic gene expression 226 have subsequently been associated with differential
physical occupancy of the gene 227 body by macroH2A1 (42, 43). In the second model, knockout of
macroH2A1 in a 228 mixed background led to a variable hepatic lipid accumulation in 50% of the 229
females (44). In this model, the X linked thyroxine binding globulin (Tbg) gene was 230 found to be
upregulated in steatotic livers. Tbg is the main carrier of the thyroid 231 hormone T4 (thyroxine), a
major regulator of energy metabolism, which could be 232 responsible for the enhanced fat
accumulation. Enrichment of macroH2A1 at the 233 Tbg promoter in female animals indicated that
increased Tbg expression in 234 macroH2A1 knockout mice could be a direct consequence of the
absence of this 235 histone (44). In contrast, our analysis of the in vivo role of macroH2A1 in
response to 236 nutritional excess led us to discover that genetic eviction of macroH2A1 confers 237
protection against high fat diet induced obesity and metabolic derangements in 238 mice (45).
Together, these mice studies did not address the role of the single 239 macroH2A1 isoforms; moreover
if these histone variants can impact energy 240 turnover in extra hepatic depots, was unknown until
recently. In the skeletal 241

South Africa And Its Effects On The West African Countries
The WHO hopes that the disease will subside in the remaining West African countries. There has been
significant progress in Liberia and some progress in Guinea. The WHO is concerned, despite this
progress, because they fear the international community will stop sending their support. Dr. Bruce
Aylward, the WHO assistant director general, told reporters that the virus can be stopped, but it will
take more work and support in order to do so (Cumming Bruce). This is one example of the WHO
communicating to the media, but more outreach to the public is needed.
Cause of Problem and Facts The decrease in number of new cases of Ebola caused the WHO to
become concerned that the international community would stop sending their support to West Africa.
Margaret Chan, the WHO director general, states that complacency will be our enemy, and we need to
continue to do more to get to zero (Schnirring). The three main countries affected still need support to
fully recover from the outbreak, and Mali, one of the newest affected countries, is still in need of
support as their numbers of new cases are still rising every day (Schnirring).
Significance to the Organization The organization is experiencing negative press as many believe that
they did not respond fast enough to the situation since it did not declare Ebola a public health
emergency until August, five months after the initial outbreak. If the WHO does not get the support
they need in order to stop the epidemic, they will suffer

How did society affect this film (i.e., what currents in society led to the creation of the film)? If you
are unable to find any information about the social impact of the film, explain the personal impact it
has had on you. Note: Not every bullet point under the four listed components will necessarily apply
to your movie. However, you will still need to discuss each of the four main components thoroughly,
which means that you may need to explain a concept even if it can‟t be directly applied to your movie.
Your paper should be organized around a thesis statement that clarifies what you will attempt to
accomplish in your paper, and how you will proceed. Additionally, you must conclude with a
restatement of the thesis and a conclusion paragraph. Stage 2: Reflection After completing your movie
analysis, you will reflect on the analysis process and how you have learned to more thoroughly
analyze film as well as how rigorous study of film enhances your development as a student and
thinker. In this 300 to 600 word reflection, review your initial post from the Post Your Introduction

Cause Of The 1929 Stock Market Crash
In late October of 1929, the U.S. stock market crashed, setting our nation into the Great Depression. In
an attempt to reveal the true catalysts of the event, the book Causes of the 1929 Stock Market Crash
examines popular beliefs of what really caused the economic tragedy. The nine questionable causes
that are discussed in this book are that the stock market was too high in September of 1929 due to
excessive speculation (Bierman 32), there was a downturn in business activity, the Hatry affair, the
Federal Reserve Board s actions, a message that there was a war against speculators, excessive buying
on margin and of investment stocks, excessive leverage in terms of debt, a competitively priced utility
market segment paired with a setback in the public utility market, and an overreaction by the stock
market.
Bierman argues that the overall stock market was not excessively high in September of 1929 and he
even explains that the business outlook was favorable. Therefore, the crash did not occur because the
market was too high. However, at least one section of the market (public utilities) was too high and
too levered, and the stage was set for the selling panic by the press and the governmental officials
repeatedly speaking of an orgy of speculation.
After disproving common beliefs about the stock market crash, he continues to explain the actual
causes.
The next false cause is the Hatry case, which Bierman refers to as a tragedy . It involved an aggressive

Social Networking And Social Media
Social networking sites create an unspoken competition between users which will cause them to
experience low self esteem. For instance, people compete for social capital: relationships with people
among a society. Jacob Silverman stated, If I don t get ten faves in the first three minutes after
tweeting something, I ll probably just delete it, an amateur comedian told the wall street
journal...What the comedian really fears is the loss of followers and social capital (Silverman 25).
When people post on social networking sites and their tweet, status, or picture doesn t evoke a
response within a certain amount of time the author will feel unnoticed by their peers. This unnoticed
fear causes a decrease in self esteem because the author ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A result of this is people are now constantly comparing themselves to others on social networking
sites. When people begin comparing themselves to others it lowers the respect they have for
themselves and causes feelings of envy towards others.
Social media is a false depiction of real life, and those who do not realize this will face a decline in
their self esteem. One reason for this is social media users have the option of filtering their profiles to
appear perfect. According to Amy Gonzales and Jeffery Handcock, people s social media accounts are
a representation of who they are. People who compare their profiles to those who use filters on their
profiles tend to experience a decrease in self esteem (Gonzales and Handcock 82). The use of filtering
is a feature of all social networking sites that allows users to create a false representation, a
representation that is an illusion of who they really are. Although filtering can be as simple as deleting
negative feedback from others, the most commonly seen case of filtering is when people use them on
their photos to appear more beautiful. Too many people do not realize that their seemingly perfect
image is not reality and try to compare themselves to something that is unachievable in the real world.
This causes the people who do not edit their profiles to feel a decrease in their self confidence. Social
media causes people to generate fake connections which can easily

A Definition Of System Services Essay
System services
This chapter contains a definition of system services (SyS) which are both managed and coordinated
by ČEPS.
ČEPS is, according to the Energy Act, responsible for ensuring system services for the power system
at the transmission system level. The system services provided by ČEPS serve to ensure both the
secure and reliable operation of the power system and the quality of electricity transmission and
satisfy the various international obligations set out by the UCTE. ČEPS provides the following system
services:
1) Maintaining the quality of electricity
This service entails the use of the following technical organisational tools: o Management of the
summary power reserve for primary frequency control o Secondary f/P control o Secondary voltage
control o Tertiary voltage control o Ensuring the quality of the voltage sine wave o Ensuring
transmission stability
The criteria for the quality of electricity follow current technical standards V.3.
2) Real time active power balancing
This service requires the use of the following technical organisational tools: o Load frequency control
o Tertiary active power control o Dispatcher reserve
The criteria for evaluating the quality of active power balancing (the control of power interchange at
the planned level) are contained in recommendations provided by the UCTE (Ground rules concerning
primary and secondary control of frequency and active power within the UCPTE) and in the
Catalogue of requirements for

The Problem Of Homeless Women
Research shows the number of homelessness women have steadily increases over the past decade .In
the 1960s, only 3% of the homeless population were women and there was a perception that homeless
women were prostitutes as a result women need were not recognised by society (Marcus, 2014).
However, the 1970s when homelessness remerge as a political issues due to the increased number of
homeless it was harder for the society to ignore. Although most of homeless most were still men,
among them were younger single women, from impoverish background and from racial minority
(Smith and Gilford, see Fitzpatrick, Peter Kemp and Klinker, 2010). Moreover by 1980s many more
women were deinstitutionalized form mental health institutions without sufficient housing or social
support (Ravenhill, 2008) as a result of this the rate of women homelessness escalated. Subsequently,
during the period of 2005 to 2006 data out of the 164, 000 household that were accepted as homeless,
39% contained pregnant woman or women with minor children. This rate have risen significantly, in
2009 to 2010 an increase of 45% were female headed household with their children and 12% were
single women, and 19% were couples with dependent children (Homeless Link, 2015),

The Beauty Of Art Essay
People have appreciated numerous forms of art over many decades and continue to analyze what art is
and how the aesthetics of it affect viewers. Audiences have gathered to ooh and ahh at art galleries,
musicals, play and ballet performances, and concerts. In fact people even travel long distances to view
world renowned tourist sites, such as the Sistine Chapel. There are billions of creations and events that
are considered art whether that art is valued by a large audience or the artist alone. Either way, art has
become a tremendously significant method of entertainment in the world today, even if one does not
recognize the entertainment as art. My own definition of art is: any form of expression that contains

The beauty of art varies among individuals, but either way, it is a beautiful thing. Art is meant to
portray a multitude of emotions through words or images and those emotions strongly affect most
people. For example, Joseph M. Martin s song entitled The Awakening features a four part harmony
with lyrics that portray a dream (a nightmare rather) where the world lacks music.
Lyrics:
I dreamed a dream, a silent dream, of a land not far away
Where no bird sang, no steeples rang, and teardrops fell like rain.
I dreamed a dream; a silent dream.
I dreamed a dream of a land so filled with pride
That every song, both weak and strong, withered and died.
I dreamed a dream
No hallelujah; not one hosanna!
No song of love, no lullaby.
And no choir sang to change the world.
No pipers played, no dancers twirled.
I dreamed a dream; a silent dream.
Awake, awake!
Awake, Awake!
Awake my soul and sing, the time for praise has come.
The silence of the night has passed,
A new day has begun!
Let music never die in me;
Forever let my spirit sing!
Wherever emptiness is found let there be joy and glorious sound.
Let music never die in me; forever let my spirit sing!
Let all our voices join as one to praise the giver of the sun!
Awake, awake!
Let music live!

Harley Davidson has been a widely admired fixture in the motorcycle industry since the golden years
of American motorcycle manufacturing (1900 1931), when at times there were as many as 200
different brands of American made motorcycles. By 1930, the market had consolidation and the big
three Harley Davidson, Indian Motorcycle, and Excelsior Supply together accounted for 90% of the
market (Ballon, 1997, p. 43). The Great Depression nearly destroyed the industry wiping out all of the
smaller manufacturers, forcing Excelsior out of business in 1931, and leaving Indian severely

Moreover, the emergence of these competitors is ironically at least partially the result of the fact that
Harley s production did not meet market demand. While new production capacity and facilities will
certainly go a long way towards meeting short term demand for touring and custom motorcycles in the
domestic market, all indications are that there will be continued strong demand in the home market as
well as growing demand in the larger European market. Looking towards the future, Harley Davidson
management must decide how to best match the company s vision and resources (which now include
Eaglemark Financing and Buell performance motorcycles) with the opportunities and threats in the
global motorcycle market.
Problem Analysis The following analysis looks first at Harley Davidson s external environment
(including competition) and secondly at the company s internal resources, strengths and weaknesses in
an effort to identify Harley s strategic options for addressing the current problem.
External Environmental Analysis It is beyond the scope of this case analysis to provide separate
environmental and industry analyses for vehicle financing services (related to Harley s Eaglemark
division), motorcycle parts and accessories and licensing related products (e.g., Harley Davidson
apparel and accessories, café, etc.). The

Julia Morgan Equality
For many years, women have been determined to gain equality and be seen and treated equally as men
are. They have had many opportunities that were taken away from them because of the simple fact that
they were women. Women didn t have the opportunities and the rights that could ve given to them. By
noticing this problem, people have been standing up for what people knew what was right. It s a basic
human right to be equal to other people without hesitation. With artists around, do people think
women can be artists too? Can they be equal as men? With so much history of the feminist equality,
believe it or not, women have been told that they don t have the knowledge or skill to become women
artists. It started with the time period when art was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Julia Morgan was born in San Francisco and grew up in Oakland. She was the second child of Charles
Bill and Eliza Morgan. Julia graduated with a degree in civil engineering from University of
California at Berkley. She had an interest of architecture after being inspired by her mother s cousin
Pierre Brun who designed the Metro Life Insurance Tower in New York. One of her instructors,
Bernard Maybeck fortified her to continue her passion of architecture. The school didn t allow women
into the field until the policy changed in 1897. She followed her passion into architecture and became
the first woman to receive a certificate in architecture. From when she continued to peruse her
passion, she overcame many obstacles simply because she was a woman. By having such a successful
career, she became an inspiration to women in the architecture world. One of the first projects she did
was to remodel and complete Phoebe Hearst s Hacienda Del Pozo de Verona in Pleasanton in
California. One of her first independent projects was the bell tower and the campus of Mills College in
Oakland, which amazed so many people because the building was one of the few that survived in the
earthquake in San Francisco in 1906. Her works proved to people that women could be

Is The Molecular Interaction Of CD8 + T Cells With...
The interaction of CD8+ T cells with peptide MHC complexes (pMHCs) is a key event in the
development of cell mediated immunity (Grakoui, 1999). MHC class I (MHC I) molecules typically
present 8 11 aa peptides derived predominantly from proteasomal degradation of intracellular proteins,
either self peptides or infection derived antigens (Blum, Wearsch, Cresswell, 2013). T cell receptors
(TCRs) from CD8+ T cells bind antigenic pMHC molecules, triggering a downstream signaling
cascade that leads to T cell activation, differentiation, and ultimately to cytolysis of target cells
presenting the same epitope (Hennecke Wiley, 2001). Vaccines and immunotherapies for the treatment
of infection and cancer seek to incorporate cytotoxic T cell ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Although computational tools have improved over the past decade, they have not been trained to
predict immunogenicity. The major limitation when using such prediction algorithms is the presence
of a significant number of binders from a given antigen that will never lead to an immune response
(Newell et al., 2013). Thus, immunogenic CTL epitopes fulfill additional criteria that go beyond
antigen processing and MHC binding.
Here, we sought to identify the biochemical criteria that define immunogenicity within the subset of
MHC I binding peptides. Using a curated repository of MHC I epitopes from the Immune Epitope
Database (IEDB) (Vita et al., 2009), we evaluated the biochemical properties of aas that discriminate
between immunogenic epitopes and non immunogenic self peptides. We found a strong bias towards
hydrophobicity in aa residues of immunogenic CTL epitopes that is highly selective for exposed TCR
contact residues. Using these criteria, we trained an artificial neural network (ANN) model to identify
immunogenic CTL epitopes from a data set and empirically assessed our prediction model for 3
human immunodeficiency virus 1 (HIV 1) Gag protein variants in a murine model of immunogenicity.
We demonstrate the utility of this ANN

Essay about Wrestling Match Loss
Wrestling Match Loss
As I crawled off of the mat in anguish, I couldn t believe that I let it happen again. My one chance to
settle the score and truly prove that I was better, was gone. My coaches and friends tried to tell me
how good I did and how lucky he got, but it only made the pain worse. They put into perspective
exactly how close I was to beating him, and it just made me think more. Think about how this was his
last year, and how I would never be able to avenge my defeat. It made me feel like everything that I
had worked for all season was lost in a split second, one that I couldn t take back.
The 2000 2001 wrestling season started off the same as any other with tormenting practices and the
effort to get in as good of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The thought of regionals and state were starting to come up a little more this late in the year. I knew
that I would have to wrestle Roy again, one way or another.
Regionals came up before I knew it and I won my first and second matches easily with pins, but I
knew my third wouldn t be so easy. Sure enough, I checked the brackets and Roy had won his first
two as well. This only meant one thing, Roy and I had a third date. I spent the next couple of hours as
a nervous wreck awaiting the match. Then I heard the booming voice of the announcer call out our
names and I headed for the mat. The match had little excitement except for a few close calls, and at
the end of the third period it was tied 3 3. Overtime is a good place for a Hotchkiss wrestler to be
because we are in so much better shape than everyone else. Sure I was in better shape than Roy, but I
will have to admit he was a bit stronger, all right a lot stronger. He ended up grabbing my leg with no
technique and jerking it to his body. He got me off my feet and took me down. Roy had beat me for
the first time in three matches. I had out wrestled him until last 5 seconds when I let my guard down. I
was crushed by the defeat and I vowed to myself that if I wrestled him again at state that it wouldn t
happen twice. I won my match for third and fourth against a different rival that had beaten me earlier

Essay about Black Elk and the History of the Lakota Native...
Black Elk plays a major role in retelling the history of the Lakota Native Americans. Having
witnessed the Battle of Little Bighorn and living through the transfer of Native Americans to the Pine
Ridge Reservation, Black Elk can attest to the treatment endured by Native Americans. Black Elk tells
the story of a people injured in war and subject to sufferings for the years to follow. Black Elk was
born in 1863 in Wyoming ( Black Elk ). He would later become the Oglala Lakota holy man ( Black
Elk 1863 1950 ). Chief Crazy Horse led a group of Sioux Native Americans in government resistance.
Being Black Elk s second cousin, Black Elk was able to closely see the actions of the government
towards the Native Americans. In May of 1877, Chief ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reservation was also the place where the Battle of Wounded Knee occurred ( History of the Pine
Ridge Indian Reservation ). As the Ghost Dance movement grew in strength and popularity, so did the
uneasiness of the United States government. Sitting Bull was captured and killed. The U.S. 7th
Cavalry attacked Black Elk s Sioux encampment, killing 200 men, women, and children. Black Elk
also experienced the poverty and starvation forced upon them by the policies of the U.S. government (
Black Elk ). The Fort Laramie Treaty of 1868 guaranteed land to the Great Sioux Nation. This was cut
down to create the present day Pine Ridge Reservation (Martinez).
Black Elk seemed disgusted by the behavior of the United States government. Black Elk had lived
through the government s unlawful slaughter of Chief Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull. He had seen the
Battle of Little Bighorn where an attempt was made to forcibly take their sacred land. Black Elk had
witnessed the massacre of men, women, and children at the Battle of Wounded Knee. Black Elk went
as far to say that I did not know then how much was ended....I can see that something else died there
in the bloody mud, and was buried in the blizzard. A people s dream died there. It was a beautiful
dream. Black Elk experienced the true injustices done by the government, and lived long enough to
see their negative impact ( Black Elk ).

  • 2. Limiting Children s Access to Internet Pornography Pornography is one of mankind s most revered, respected, and repulsed pastimes. Adults can use pornography to relieve stress, enhance their sex lives, or simply as a means of entertainment. One of the easiest and most popular ways of obtaining pornographic material is over the Internet. The only downside is that the Internet is accessible to children; therefore, pornography is accessible to children. While adults should have limitless access to Internet porn, minors should be kept away from this concubine. Usage of Internet pornography grows rapidly every day. It can be accessed easily enough by anyone that wishes to see the material, has a modem, and some times a wishful intent. The material ranges from semi nude photos to videos ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Internet has experienced an extraordinary growth. The number of host computers—those that store information and relay communications—increased from about 300 in 1981 to approximately 9,400,000 by the time of the trial in 1996. Roughly 60% of these hosts are located in the United States. About 40 million people used the Internet at the time of trial, a number that expected to mushroom to 200 million by 2000. How can it be possible to regulate all Internet transmissions with user numbers at 200 million? Another problem that arises is the fact that not all Internet sites can quantifiably prove that the user wishing to browse their domain is of legal age. An annoy mailer can be used to hide the identity of the user. Some sites require the use of a credit card in order to view its contents, but credit card numbers are easy to obtain. This limitation of proof is being minutely controlled by a number of sites dedicated to helping parents censor what their children see. This might possibly be the first step in what will protect the American children from viewing obscene material. One such site, Mcgruff.com, gives Internet safety tips for parents. It explains to tell children about the Internet, and how to let parents know if there are any materials or persons online that makes a child feel uncomfortable. There is a large emphasis on craft and the importance of ownership of the process. These key principles are aligned with key philosophies of the British Arts and Crafts movement, which occurred as a result of the Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution resulted in changes to living and working conditions. Rather than the village lifestyle that supported families working in small groups to oversee local production, there was a shift in population from rural landscapes to vast cities. This resulted in work in factory settings. Fredreich Engels describes how this caused the isolation of the individual in his book The Condition of the Working Class in England . The working class were especially sacrificed, being subject to overcrowding, and inappropriate conditions. Engels describes the unhygienic living and working conditions including rough, dirty unpaved streets that lacked sewers and gutters. This contributed to the spread of disease. Factories were made for the machine, and the work was autonomous with workers being assigned one part of a production ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We have been through plenty of trials and tribulations and I know very well how mature you are for your young age but there remain some pieces of the story that you don t know of. I am not here to tell you of them, but there are some things that are impossible to understand without an outside nudge, and I hope that in doing this you will come to accept the things I tell you, so that when certain pieces come to light, you may look upon it without pain. People are not perfect. People are not always kind. People are not always well intentioned. And the truth is: our parents are people too. You know this because despite all that I have done in my attempts to shield you, you have seen them upset. You have seen them weep. You have seen them scream. You have watched our mother starving herself, disappear for hours at a time after haphazardly throwing about words of death. You have watched our father shut down, sleep for days, become frustrated at himself and at the world. You have sat with your brother and I in a police car as our father was taken to prison, cried without understanding as our mother wept, hidden as we have hidden. You were pulled into this world without wanting any of this, without knowing it, and only with our brother and I to guide your confusion as you came into the middle of the crisis. Although there were several issues with Section 7, the specific issue was the uncertainty that came with gauging the goals of the recovery program along with the issue that the goals of the program were not specific with location or amount. Criteria for gauging the progress of the goals were not clear. For example, Brunner et al. stated that a recovery goal for the Colorado pikeminnow was to maintain and protect self sustaining populations and natural habitat. The issue with this is that there was no concrete way to measure if the pikeminnow populations were actually self sustaining. Another addition to the uncertainty issue was that the area the program was attempting to cover was so larger that it was difficult to determine who would be responsible for fish recovery or inadequate progress in the recovery. Several agencies and groups were represented during the negotiations of the recovery program. The most relevant was the Fish and Wildlife Service, who essentially guided the entire process. At first, Frederick Douglass was apprehensive about speaking in front of a large audience on slavery, but once he gathered his courage, he received a warm welcome. This encouraged Douglass to speak freely for the abolishment of slavery. He felt addressing the overall principle was more pertinent at that moment than the solutions to end slavery. Since British Christians were directly affiliated with the British, Douglass first thought their opposition to slavery might hinder efforts to abolish slavery given their close ties. However, Douglass later changed his views, as he thought given the prevalence and severity of slavery, it would take the influence of England to help combat slavery, as their dominance rose above any authorities in the ... Douglass told the group about the outcome of Sambo, a slave who was disobedient and did not complete his work within two and a half hours as directed by his slave owner. As a result, Sambo received lashings from his slave owner. Douglass contrasted this with reasons why obedience is necessary in the words of slave owners. In other words, if slaves wanted to be well fed, cared for, and receive favors from their masters, then they should be obedient. However, in Sambo s example, he took a nap and was given a lashing, which is quite the opposite of being well cared for or receiving favors. Douglass discussed how owners sought to convince slaves why they should obey their masters. Slave owners informed their slaves that the Lord brought them to the Christian country to experience the kingdom of heaven because the Lord saw their desperation in Africa, as they worked intensely to make ends meet. According to slave owners, the Lord empowered Bishop Newton to take the slaves from Africa to relieve them from their despair. In return, owners expected the slaves to be thankful and obedient to their slave masters for being in the Christian country, as they would not have the opportunity to enter the kingdom of heaven without ... The Imperial Trans Atlantic Expedition was headed by Ernest Shackleton, an explorer and consummate leader of men. Shackleton used his gut feeling to hand pick his crew, ensuring they knew that success would be rewarded but also aware that a safe return home is not guaranteed. Hispanic-American Culture Culture: Entertainment, Holidays, Clothing When thinking about Hispanic parties, most people think of piñatas, traditional hollow papier mâché creations filled with candy. Each child at the party is blindfolded and given a stick to try and break the piñata, spilling the candy onto the ground for all the children to collect (Explore Hispanic Culture, 2012). However, researchers believe this tradition extends back to Mayan times, where clay pots filled with gifts were broken open and considered to be favors from the gods (EHC, 2012). The reason we see these similar traits among the Irish population is because of the hardships that the people go through as they are raised from children to adults. Ireland is known for their high rates of diagnosed mental illness. Through the author s fieldwork we are able to learn about the personality traits found among the Irish. Nancy Scheper Hughes states that, the Republic of Ireland has the highest hospitalization treatment rate for mental illness in the world (Scheper Hughes 60). The book titled, Saints, Scholars, and Schizophrenics Mental Illness in Rural Ireland, talks about the mental illness Schizophrenia and mentions reasons why the Irish population has been diagnosed with so many cases. Scheper Hughes observes, Schizophrenia is the core problem more than half of the patients are so diagnosed (Scheper Hughes 60). The reason behind these diagnosed mental illnesses has a lot to do with the way the Irish are raised. Most of the Irish population is raised in a similar way, which does not allow them to make decisions for themselves. There are certain social and cultural values that Irish parents place upon their children, which may be the reason why there are so many cases of mental illness seen throughout Ireland. One reason that may affect these children is the pressure put on them by parents. In Irish culture at least one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Reflective Essay On The Clothesline Project On October 26th, 2017, I attended the clothesline project. I had very little knowledge of the clothesline project, so I thought by attending I could expand my horizons. The Clothesline Project was held at the memorial union in the ballroom. Our role, as a participant, was to stay very quiet and look at the displayed shirts and items. I knew the event dealt with violence, but that was about it. According to the clothesline project website, it states The Clothesline Project provides evidence that incest, domestic violence, and sexual violence exists in our communities. It is a visual reminder of statistics that we often ignore. It gives a voice to those who have been forcibly silenced. Hopefully, it stirs us to action. A public must be informed about violence in order to act to prevent it . The clothesline project started in 1990. A group of women decided to create this event because a plethora of girls were harmed during the Vietnam war. The website also listed what each color of shirt meant. For example, white t shirts stood for people who have died because of violence. After my research I was kind of nervous to attend, I didn t really want to hear about battered women and abused kids. Going into it, I knew nothing other than the research I had done. I had a feeling it was just going to make me heartbroken. When I got there, I became silent and just took everything in. No one in my family has never dealt with any type of abuse, rape, violence, etc. Since I ve never heard of it happening to anyone close to me, I believed it wasn t that common. I ve seen terrible things on the news, but I believed it could never happen where I live. I walked in expecting maybe twenty to thirty shirts. Little did I know the entire ballroom would be filled with t shirts. A story that made me realize it can happen to anyone was Dru Sjodin s. There was a table set up in the front of the room, this table consisted of personal belongings to some of the women who had passed on. I was drawn to Dru s spot on the table because of the unique plate. Dru was a student at UND, who was last seen at Columbia Mall parking lot. A number of mechanistic studies using animal have explored this 217 possibility, yielding conflicting outcomes (Table II). Two mouse models with a 218 macroH2A1 knockout have been reported under a standard diet feeding. In the first 219 model, generated in the pure C57Bl/6J background, developmental changes in 220 macroH2A1 mediated gene regulation were observed (42): up regulation of 221 lipogenic genes was detected in the liver of the knockout mice (42), which displayed 222 ... In this model, the X linked thyroxine binding globulin (Tbg) gene was 230 found to be upregulated in steatotic livers. Tbg is the main carrier of the thyroid 231 hormone T4 (thyroxine), a major regulator of energy metabolism, which could be 232 responsible for the enhanced fat accumulation. Enrichment of macroH2A1 at the 233 Tbg promoter in female animals indicated that increased Tbg expression in 234 macroH2A1 knockout mice could be a direct consequence of the absence of this 235 histone (44). There has been significant progress in Liberia and some progress in Guinea. The WHO is concerned, despite this progress, because they fear the international community will stop sending their support. Dr. Bruce Aylward, the WHO assistant director general, told reporters that the virus can be stopped, but it will take more work and support in order to do so (Cumming Bruce). This is one example of the WHO communicating to the media, but more outreach to the public is needed. Cause of Problem and Facts The decrease in number of new cases of Ebola caused the WHO to become concerned that the international community would stop sending their support to West Africa. Margaret Chan, the WHO director general, states that complacency will be our enemy, and we need to continue to do more to get to zero (Schnirring). The three main countries affected still need support to fully recover from the outbreak, and Mali, one of the newest affected countries, is still in need of support as their numbers of new cases are still rising every day (Schnirring). Significance to the Organization The organization is experiencing negative press as many believe that they did not respond fast enough to the situation since it did not declare Ebola a public health emergency until August, five months after the initial outbreak. • 35. Cause Of The 1929 Stock Market Crash In late October of 1929, the U.S. stock market crashed, setting our nation into the Great Depression. In an attempt to reveal the true catalysts of the event, the book Causes of the 1929 Stock Market Crash examines popular beliefs of what really caused the economic tragedy. The nine questionable causes that are discussed in this book are that the stock market was too high in September of 1929 due to excessive speculation (Bierman 32), there was a downturn in business activity, the Hatry affair, the Federal Reserve Board s actions, a message that there was a war against speculators, excessive buying on margin and of investment stocks, excessive leverage in terms of debt, a competitively priced utility market segment paired with a setback in the public utility market, and an overreaction by the stock market. Bierman argues that the overall stock market was not excessively high in September of 1929 and he even explains that the business outlook was favorable. Therefore, the crash did not occur because the market was too high. However, at least one section of the market (public utilities) was too high and too levered, and the stage was set for the selling panic by the press and the governmental officials repeatedly speaking of an orgy of speculation. After disproving common beliefs about the stock market crash, he continues to explain the actual causes. The next false cause is the Hatry case, which Bierman refers to as a tragedy . A result of this is people are now constantly comparing themselves to others on social networking sites. When people begin comparing themselves to others it lowers the respect they have for themselves and causes feelings of envy towards others. Social media is a false depiction of real life, and those who do not realize this will face a decline in their self esteem. One reason for this is social media users have the option of filtering their profiles to appear perfect. According to Amy Gonzales and Jeffery Handcock, people s social media accounts are a representation of who they are. People who compare their profiles to those who use filters on their profiles tend to experience a decrease in self esteem (Gonzales and Handcock 82). The use of filtering is a feature of all social networking sites that allows users to create a false representation, a representation that is an illusion of who they really are. Although filtering can be as simple as deleting negative feedback from others, the most commonly seen case of filtering is when people use them on their photos to appear more beautiful. Too many people do not realize that their seemingly perfect image is not reality and try to compare themselves to something that is unachievable in the real world. This causes the people who do not edit their profiles to feel a decrease in their self confidence. Social media causes people to generate fake connections which can easily ... By 1930, the market had consolidation and the big three Harley Davidson, Indian Motorcycle, and Excelsior Supply together accounted for 90% of the market (Ballon, 1997, p. 43). The interaction of CD8+ T cells with peptide MHC complexes (pMHCs) is a key event in the development of cell mediated immunity (Grakoui, 1999). MHC class I (MHC I) molecules typically present 8 11 aa peptides derived predominantly from proteasomal degradation of intracellular proteins, either self peptides or infection derived antigens (Blum, Wearsch, Cresswell, 2013). T cell receptors (TCRs) from CD8+ T cells bind antigenic pMHC molecules, triggering a downstream signaling cascade that leads to T cell activation, differentiation, and ultimately to cytolysis of target cells presenting the same epitope (Hennecke Wiley, 2001). Although computational tools have improved over the past decade, they have not been trained to predict immunogenicity. The major limitation when using such prediction algorithms is the presence of a significant number of binders from a given antigen that will never lead to an immune response (Newell et al., 2013). Thus, immunogenic CTL epitopes fulfill additional criteria that go beyond antigen processing and MHC binding. Here, we sought to identify the biochemical criteria that define immunogenicity within the subset of MHC I binding peptides. Using a curated repository of MHC I epitopes from the Immune Epitope Database (IEDB) (Vita et al., 2009), we evaluated the biochemical properties of aas that discriminate between immunogenic epitopes and non immunogenic self peptides. We found a strong bias towards hydrophobicity in aa residues of immunogenic CTL epitopes that is highly selective for exposed TCR contact residues. Using these criteria, we trained an artificial neural network (ANN) model to identify immunogenic CTL epitopes from a data set and empirically assessed our prediction model for 3 human immunodeficiency virus 1 (HIV 1) Gag protein variants in a murine model of immunogenicity.
