Difference Between Slavs And Italian Immigrants
Slavs and Italians, being the most predominant immigrants during the late 1800 s, faced a series of
appalling living conditions. For instance, Slavs who formed families and lived in the company built
homes were most of the time in need and cultivated flora in order to survive on the very low wages
paid by companies. Woman as a part of the family had to also contribute economically, this included
taking jobs at textile mills and taking care of the gardens at home. Protein supply for these immigrants
was small. Immigrants worked 10 12 hours a day, they relied on a diet with high levels of
carbohydrates and starch, which provide them with temporal energy and fulfillment. Italians, as said in
text had it worse , instead of living in company owned

Biblical Allusions in The Magician s Nephew
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician s Nephew is very interesting story wise. It has a lot of good
morals and allegories teaching integrity, self control and wisdom and is mostly composed of biblical
allusions.
A biblical allusion is to use a reference from the bible to communicate a hidden meaning. You could
compare your best friend to Jonathan, King David s loyal friend in the books of Samuel. You could
also illustrate faith through the strength of the disciples as they remained faithful even in persecution.
Many biblical allusions can be found here in The Magician s Nephew .
The problems of the main characters, Digory and Polly, started when they entered the world of Charn.

He created music and sang as he continued to orchestrate the forming of this new and clean world.
This is similar to the description in the Genesis 1 where the creation of our world is narrated.
Aslan had also chosen specific animals to have the power of speech. Those who had this free will to
speak had been given the land that was created to populate. This is closely related to the creation of
man and woman and the freedom of speech for humanity. As long as they did not go back to their old
ways as dumb animals, the speaking animals were given authority by Aslan to govern the animals who
could not talk. Lewis gives us a hint that humans are dumb in nature, and that we would be nothing
without God, for He is the only one who can raise us up from the lowly beginning from whence we
had come from. Here is a quote from the book showing the authority of Aslan, just as God has
authority over us as His creation.
Creatures, I give you yourselves, said the strong, happy voice of Aslan. I give to you forever this land
of Narnia. I give you the woods, the fruits, the rivers. I give you the stars and I give you myself. The
Dumb Beasts whom I have not chosen are yours also. Treat them gently and cherish them but do not
go back to their ways lest you cease to be Talking Beasts. For out of them you were taken and into
them you can return. Do not so. Aslan
Later in the story, the witch tries to tempt Digory into eating a

The Rights Of The United States Constitution
The United States Constitution was designed to enfranchise the white men who, in 1787, were the
only citizens included in John Locke s conception of the social contract (outlined in his Second
Treatise of Government). At this time in history, women were not invited to be free and equal, in
relation to their husbands and fathers or as citizens in the founding fathers new republic. Therefore,
the Constitution never addresses abortion, contraception, or marriage. Arguments made in laws and
court cases on these topics, specifically reproductive rights, have therefore traditionally rested on a
right to privacy the court has interpreted as being found in the first, fourth, fifth, and fourteenth
amendments to the Constitution, rather than a right to freedom from sex based discrimination found in
the nineteenth amendment. The landmark supreme court cases Griswold v. Connecticut and Roe v.
Wade were both won on these grounds, both setting a precedent for the expansion of the right to
privacy. This protection has also been affected by the 2003 Partial Birth Abortion Ban and the Hyde
Amendment.
First off, in 1965 the supreme court ruled 7 2 in the Griswold v. Connecticut case that the state of
Connecticut s ban on contraception was unconstitutional, because it denied a married couple s right to
privacy (a right extended to unmarried individuals under the Griswold precedent in the 1972
Eisenstadt v. Baird supreme court case). This expansion of privacy in Griswold later informed Roe v.

Under The Black Umbrella
Under the Black Umbrella tells the many captivating stories about the 35 years of Japanese occupation
in Korea through both world wars. The memories are all from the perspective of Korean men and
women who lived through some or all of it. Many of their stories and the history during that time are
influenced by several factors, some of which include their location in Korea or surrounding areas and
the government s involvement in recording history. The Japanese were not all awful to the Koreans,
since they were humans all the same, but they committed enough atrocities to have a bad reputation
with the Koreans. In attempts to unify, North Koreans employed nationalism and ethnocentrism to fuel
their way to become a strong nation again. South Koreans did not rally around such extreme ways and
did not utilize their northern brethren s methods of fear for power. Back then and now, globalization is
a part of life and it should not be stifled. Nationalistic thinking will bring about more pain and
suffering rather than just trying to coexist. Korea faced many hardships with the Japanese occupation.
In recovery to their rule, issues arose when it came to accuracy in history, nationalism, ethnocentrism,
and the different roles they all took between the north and the south.
The Japanese colonization was a difficult time for the Koreans due to the oppression and adversity
most of them faced. Albeit not all of them had horrendous experiences, but there is certainly a level of

Field Career Report
When graduation started to come around, deciding what I wanted to for the rest of my life still wasn t
clear to me. I was looking for that one perfect career where I could support myself and not have to
depend on anyone else financially. After getting frustrated and feeling like I wasn t going to find what
I wanted to do, my dad talked to me about physical therapy and told me what benefits would come out
at the end when I was done with school. He talked to me about one of his cousins who is currently
employed and how great she is doing.
I looked into it deeper, read what physical therapists do, what their wages are, and most importantly
how much schooling it would require. I then talked to someone personally and got a general overview
of what she does specifically and physical therapy in general. After deciding this is what I wanted to
do, I wanted these four things: a good income, flexible schedule, benefits, be financially independent
and promotions. With the Field Career Report, I plan to have more knowledge about physical therapy

Glucose And Starch Lab Report
Starch and Water Diffusing Into Either Iodine or Glucose Through a Semi Permeable Dialysis Tubing
Diffusion is a high concertation of molecules spreading randomly to a lower concertation. This an
example of passive transport that does not require ATP. A lipid bilayer can only easily allow small
molecules that are non polar through it. Water is an exception because it can defuse through with a
process called Osmosis. Special aquaporin proteins allow the water through the semi permeable
membrane. Starch is a polysaccharide made of many glucose monosaccharides bonded together. It is
insoluble in water. Glucose is soluble in water and is also a monosaccharide.
Hypothesis
Setup 1 Starch will not diffuse out of the tubing. It is a polysaccharide, so it will be hard to diffuse
through because of its size. The liquid iodine will be able to diffuse into the tubing. Even though
iodine is slightly charged, they are small, which will allow them to diffuse. ... Show more content on

The Oregon Trail Essay example
The Oregon Trail
The Oregon Trail was a very important aspect in the history of our country s development. When
Marcus and Narcissa Whitman made the first trip along the Oregon Trail, many Americans saw a
window of opportunity. The Oregon Trail was the only practical way to pass through the Rockies.
Pioneers crammed themselves into small wagons to try to make it to the unsettled land; however, 10%
of these pioneers died on the way due to disease and accidents.
The journey along the Oregon Trail was a very long and rough experience. Stretching out to almost a
whopping 2000 miles it usually took the pioneers 4 6 months travelling at 12 to 16 miles per hour.
Throughout this journey the pioneers had to battle with cholera, poor ... Show more content on

The role of the Native Americans during the time of the Oregon Trail was a very important one. The
first section of the Oregon Trail bisected two major Native American tribes, these were the Cheyenne
to the north and the Pawnee to the south. Many of the travelers feared attacks by these tribes but were
surprised when they were allowed to pass unharmed. The Native Americans were the opposite of what
was expected of them. They were very helpful to the travelers. They often helped travelers pull out
stuck wagons, rescue drowning travelers, and even round up lost cattle. Native Americans also acted
as guides, carried messages between wagon trains, traded with the travelers, and even helped some
travelers cross Indian land.
Most of the encounters with the Native Americans were simple business transactions. Travelers traded
clothing, rifles, and tobacco products in exchange for horses and food. However, many travelers
complained that the Native Americans charged expensive tolls for crossing their lands. Conflicts
between the Indians and the travelers were pretty rare. Out of the 500,000 people to travel along the
Oregon Trail fewer than 400 pioneers lost their lives due to attacks. When the travelers had overgrazed
the prairie grasses, burned all the available firewood, and killed all the herds of buffalo attacks were
expected by the travelers. In order to

To What Extent Does Access To Condoms Prevent Teenage...
Does access to condoms prevent teen pregnancy? I strongly agree that condoms do help the prevention
of teen pregnancy. Condoms should actually be placed in schools, doctor offices, community youth
centers and just about everywhere teens are found. I believe that everywhere teens hang out there
should be condoms available to them either free or little to no cost. The more access and availability to
condoms teens have the more they will use them to protect themselves and the less teen pregnancy and
STI rate they will have. Convenient condom access and availability simply helps our teens because
they will most likely receive education and confidentiality with those condoms. Also the financial
burden of purchasing condoms will be lifted from the teens. Parents and adults normally ... Show

The more education a teen has on sex and teen pregnancy, the less likely they are to become a mother
or father at the age of sixteen or younger. Most churches and doctor offices normally give out goodie
bags to teens. These goodie bags are normally filled with male or female condoms, coupons, and lots
of informational pamphlet s. These goodie bags are not only useful but very convenient for teens who
don t have a lot of time and feel like sitting in a two sex education class is torture. Also when giving
out condoms doctor offices and many other places try their best to give teens a very quick education
tips and lessons on teen pregnancy, STI s and the pros and condoms about using condoms. They do
this not to scare teens but to provide teens with the necessary and proper education to protect
themselves and prevent some of the negative outcomes that happen when you have unprotected sex.
Some of these pamphlets also provide statistics, teen pregnancy rates and sex educated teens versus
non educated teens. Over the years this education has been deemed very useful because today there is

Mexicans, Chicanos, Mexican Americans
Mexicans, Chicanos, Mexican Americans, Indigenous, and more are just a few of the terms used to
refer to people of Mexican descent. Many Hispanics attempt to enter the United States in search of a
better life and to have an enjoyable way of life. However, living in constant fear of being deported and
consistently being judged simply because of one s color, or the inability to communicate in English;
that does not sound like the American dream. Typically, people have real reasons to emigrate to the
United States, and it is in great part due to necessity. Most people have families they leave behind
because they need money in order to survive and have food on the table every day, they see the United
States as the solution to their problem. On another note, the 1960 s movements emerged during the
Civil Rights era, in order to earn justice and rights for Mexican Americans in the United States. After
years of being ignored, Mexicans decided to take a stand through the help of activists, hoping to attain
victories for the Chicano community. Overall, after constant oppression, Chicanos fought back all the
harsh treatment through the Chicano Movement arguing for a broad section of issues; however,
nowadays many racial problems continue to exist, such as SB 1070 and HB 2281, which were
polemical bills classified as racial attacks; they were directly aimed towards Mexicans. The Chicano
Movement arose during the Civil Rights era; it was a cultural and political movement, in order to

No Country For Old Men Themes
There are several apparent themes throughout the film No Country for Old Men . These themes
express a particular opinion about human nature and life in general. Although this film is complex,
and in my opinion littered with several themes, the three main themes are violence, good vs. evil, and
fate vs. freewill. There are many reasons why these three are the most central themes in this movie, as
well as many scenes that portray this observation. The fact that No Country for Old Men is a violent
movie is apparent almost immediately. The first main character that we are introduced to visually is
Anton Chigruh. Our first insight into his character is that he has a complete disregard for human life,
which contributes to his eerie and unsettling persona; even the manner in which he kills people
furthers this observation. He uses a pressurized cattle gun, as if the life of a cow and life of a human
are one in the same. Furthermore, while watching this film you ... Show more content on

evil. The scene that really propels this story forward is when Llewelyn Moss brings water to the
injured man he had discover earlier that day. In the midst of his good deed, evil in the form of crazed
men with guns, comes driving down the hill. They fire at Moss, who then tumbles down a small hill
and into a river, barely escaping. In this scene, you see a glimpse into the struggle between good vs
evil. This scene, of course, is a small example of the overall good vs. evil theme as a whole. In a larger
more general sense, good vs. evil is shown in the plot of the story. The plot can be captured in these
two questions: Will the sheriff Ed Tom Bell (the good guy) catch Anton Chigruh or Llewelyn Moss
(the bad guys)? And in whose hands will the money fall? Although Moss is not necessarily considered
one of the good guys, he isn t all bad. Each character has varying degrees of both good and evil; this is

exceptions to this. Highly communicable and contagious diseases need to be disclosed beforehand for

11. Advantages of QIP
Minimum Regulations and Procedural requirements
As compared to other placements like IPO and FPO, QIP is less cumbersome. This is because there is
no need to file pre issue document with the capital markets regulator. Approval of SEBI is also not
required. However, it is required to file a placement document with the stock exchanges which
encompasses details of the issue.
Time saving
Minimum regulations and procedural requirements make QIP one of the fastest methods of raising
funds. The best example of this is Power Trading Company (PTC India) who raised QIP issue of Rs.

A Summary And Suggestions Of The Bank Essay
CHAPTER 5
5.1.1 FINDINGS AND SUGGESTIONS
The Bank has to do lot of work why people are still financially excluded even after 68 years of
independence and design policies to ensure inclusion of the poor and disadvantaged people. The
strategy could vary from village to village but all efforts should be made in this way as financial
inclusion can truly lift the financial condition and standards of life of the poor and the disadvantaged
people of Jammu Kashmir. Large percentage of loans is taken by households for meeting financial
emergency, medical emergency and social obligations like marriages, etc. These three purposes
amount to 53% of the loans availed by the people. More than 60% of people/farmers are indebted to
non institutional sources. In case of crisis, these people find it convenient to approach non institutional
sources for their credit necessities. Financial emergencies, for instance include unforeseen expenditure
on business, consumption, marriage among others, which may not be financed by banks and other
institutional organizations. Need specific loans / credit schemes can attract the people towards the
banking domain.
In India when financial inclusion started it was just to have minimum access to bank accounts without
frills. But actually financial inclusion scope is very wide it doesn t mean just to have a zero balance
account. Even many account holders can t recall when they opened these accounts because these

How Do The Fuels ( Carbohydrate And Fat ) We Use Change...
Lab Report How do the fuels (carbohydrate and fat) we use change during exercise of varying
intensity?
During exercise energy comes from Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP). There are 3 energy systems, these
are glycolysis, phosphocreatine (ATP CP) and the aerobic system. During short term intense activities
a large amount of power needs to be produced by the muscles creating a high demand for ATP. The
phosphagen system (ATP CP system) is the quickest way to resynthesize ATP, Robergs Roberts 1997.
Creatine phosphate (CP), which is stored in the skeletal muscles, donates a phosphate to ADP to
produce ATP. No fat or carbohydrate or fat is used in this process, and the regeneration of ATP comes
solely from stored CP. This process does not need ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2000. Very little energy is produced through this pathway, but the energy is gained very quickly. Once
pyruvate is formed, it has two fates: conversion to lactate or conversion into metabolic intermediary
molecule called acetyl co enzyme A (acetyl CoA), and this enters the mitochondria for oxidation and
the production of more ATP, Robergs Roberts 1997. Conversion to lactate occurs when the demand for
oxygen is greater than the supply, so for example during anaerobic exercise. Conversely, when there is
enough oxygen available to meet the muscles needs, pyruvate, via the acetyl CoA) enters the
mitochondria and goes through the aerobic metabolism.
When oxygen is not supplied fast enough to meet the muscles needs (anaerobic glycolysis), there is an
increase in hydrogen ions, this causes the muscle pH to decrease; a condition called acidosis, and
other metabolites ADP, P and potassium ions. Acidosis and the accumulation of these other
metabolites cause a number of problems inside the muscles, including inhibition of specific enzymes
involved in metabolism and muscle contraction, inhibition of the release of calcium, this is the trigger
for muscle contraction, from its storage in muscles, and interference with the muscles electrical
charges, Enoka Stuart 1992; Glaister 2005; McLester 1997. As a result of these changes, muscles lose

planted. However, it would be three years before the area became famous for its oranges after a local
resident, Eliza Tibbets received a gift from a horticulturist at the United States Department of
Agriculture. William Saunders sent Eliza three Brazilian naval orange trees. Originally planted on the
Tibbet s property, the two surviving trees were transplanted to land owned by Sam McCoy after one of
the saplings was trampled by a cow. In 1903, the trees were transplanted again. One was moved to the
property of the Mission Inn and re planted by President Theodore Roosevelt; it died in 1922. The other
tree was also transplanted in 1903 to the intersection of Magnolia and Arlington avenue where it
remains to this day with a stone memorial honoring Eliza Tibbets. The trees origins were Bahia,
Brazil. Although a prized orange by many, the tree did not do well in Florida where most US oranges
were grown at that time. However, the Bahia orange tree thrived in Southern California and

Ronald Reagan s Life and Accomplishments
Ronald Reagan began his life in 1911 in Tampico, IL. When he was nine, his family moved to Dixon,
IL where he grew up. His father owned a shoe store in town. His mother raised him with the
fundamental belief in God that he carried with him throughout his life and presidency. He became a
devout Christian and was very involved in his church. He was a very kind and caring boy and very
much an introvert, something that he carried on later in life. He was very athletic, playing football and
various other sports. However, when he was a young man, he became a lifeguard on the Rock River a
few miles from Dixon. This is where he found what he was meant to do...to rescue people (Reagan,

He believed that a tax cut would stimulate the economy and help balance the budget. Reagan had the
uncanny ability to project what he wanted and he trusted people to do it. Sometimes that backfired on
him but for the most part, it stood firm. The Power of Persuasion was something that learned how to
do well from his acting career (Reagan, n.d.). In March 1981, he was the victim of an assassination
attempt. Afterwards, he became even more recluse than before. To say Reagan never had any friends
was an understatement. He had acquaintances but never had any real friends outside of his wife,
Nancy. This event changed him in more ways than one. He was much more evangelistic and more apt
to prayer than ever before. He did bounce back physically and went straight back to work on the
economic recovery. Reaganomics, as some people called it, was supposed to lead people out of
hardship and instead it had the opposite effect, at least at first. He had to choose between a balanced
budget or lose the strong military presence to fight against Communism. He absolutely refused to give
in when it came to the military presence, so he gave up on the balanced budget. By 1982, the recession
got stronger and the problem was that the military presence was so vast and cost so much that the
American people started rioting and asking the President to slow defense spending so that the

Visual Aesthetics
Part One: Visual Aesthetics Essay The work of art I chose is a sculpture by Antonio Raggi which is
located in the church of Santi Domenico e Sisto, in Rome. I think it gives meaning to the story by
giving you a physical work that expresses all of the thoughts and emotions the characters are feeling.
The piece shows Mary on her knees in front of Jesus desperately reaching towards him, probably to
prove to herself that he is really there in front of her, while Jesus seems to be gesturing with his

Jesus has risen from the dead. However, Mary Magdalene could not place her faith in what she saw

Despite ending his four year career at Kansas State on a high note, Pullen would go undrafted in 2011

Victor Hugo Essay
Description
Victor Hugo describes a strong need for social reform, especially in the prison system, in France
during the post Renaissance period (1815 mid 1800 s). Hugo, in symbolizing this theme, refers to a
broad spectrum of historical events in France such as the Battle of Waterloo where Napoleon was
defeated.
In the beginning Jean Valjean, the protagonist of the novel, is a criminal on parole. The day he is
released from prison he is wandering looking for a place to stay. No one will take him in except for a
Bishop, M. Myriel. M. Myriel is more than willing to help Valjean . Valjean is shocked by the bishop s
benevolence and trust, but remembers his hatred towards society for imprisoning him for 19 years.
When the bishop goes to sleep Valjean is tempted to steal his silver silverware which was brought out
at dinner. Valjean takes the silver and is arrested the next day. The police bring him back to the village
where the bishop lives, upon returning the bishop says that he gave Valjean the silver and then gives
Valjean silver candlesticks too saying that he had forgotten to take them. The only thing the bishop
asks of Valjean is that he changes to be a better man. Valjean is now intent on changing, but while
walking out of the village he finds a little boy flipping a silver coin. When the coin ... Show more

United States Interagency Council On Homelessness
In recent years, the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH) and the US
Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) have identified rapid re housing as a critical
strategy to meeting the national goal of ending family homelessness by 2020 (USICH 2013). As noted
in a recent update of Opening Doors, the federal plan to end homelessness, [US Department of Health
and Human Services], HUD, [the US Department of Veterans Affairs], and USICH have joined forces
to promote expansion of rapid re housing as a part of community coordinated systems (USICH
2013). Rapid re housing, an intervention that helps homeless families exit shelters and get back into
permanent housing quickly, provides short term help with housing expenses (e.g., rent arrears,
ongoing rent assistance, moving costs) and case management focused on housing stability. Rapid re
housing is a relatively new but, as early evidence shows, promising strategy that communities across
the country are adopting. The emphasis on rapid re housing represents a significant shift in the
response to family homelessness toward a Housing First philosophy. Increased attention on rapid re
housing, accompanied by an influx of resources, and expansion of programs, elicits urgent need for
more rigorous evaluation, some of which is already underway.
There is a small, but growing, body of evidence on the efficacy of rapid re housing. Drawing on
program data and early findings from evaluations in progress, this brief

The Matrix And The Allegory Of The Cave
The Matrix and the Allegory of the Cave focus on one central idea: What is real?. They engage the
audience in a fictional world where people live in false realities without knowing it. They make us
question our own knowledge. Their storylines connect in that the protagonist discovers that everything
he knows is a big lie and now he must discover the truth. The protagonist is thrown all of the sudden
into the real world and then, he continues to seek the absolute truth. Neo and the prisoner inquire
whether knowing the truth is a blessing or a curse. The Matrix itself is very comparable to the cave
because both are prisons of false reality. Humans are trapped and manipulated by their
surroundings.Their senses are tricked and they can t recognize the truth. In the Allegory of the Cave,
people have been in this dwelling since childhood, shackled by the legs and neck. Thus they stay in
the same place so that there is only one thing for them to look that: whatever they encounter in front of
their faces. But because they are shackled, they are unable to turn their heads around. Just like the
prisoners, Neo is chained to a bunch of machines who blind him from the real world. In the film,
Morpheus says: Like everyone else, you were born into bondage, kept inside a prison that you cannot
smell, taste, or touch. A prison for your mind . Neither the prisoners or the people living in the Matrix

Music of Robert Schumann as a New Stage in the Development...
Music of Robert Schumann as a New Stage in the Development of Romanticism
Music of Robert Schumann embodies many of the most characteristic features of German
Romanticism deep psychological insight, aspiration for the ideal, intimacy, irony and bitterness.
Advanced aesthetic tendencies of German culture in the period of 1820 40s found vivid expression in
his music. In contradictions, which are inherent in Schumann s music, reflected the complex
contradictions of the social life from his time. His music is filled with a restless, rebellious spirit that
puts him in the same line with Byron, Heine, Goethe, Wagner and others. However, the theme of
rebellion in the music of Schumann has a psychological, but very lyrical representation. Compared to
Heinrich Heine, Victor Hugo, and Ludwig Van Beethoven who viewed the world through the prism of
social injustice, Schumann did not aim towards social revolt. The greatest part of his diverse heritage
was his personal confession in music. Schumann s piano music, for instance, Kreisleriana, Op.16 and
the Symphonic Etudes, op.13, are truly a musical encyclopedia of the human soul with many nuances
and tones, with shades of colors of joy, sorrow, anguish, doubt and struggle, dreams and anxieties,
rush, despair, faith and courage.
E.T.A. Hoffmann in his writing Dichtungen und Schriften defined genius as a person who is able to
touch us, to move us mightily, the artist himself must be deeply affected in his own heart. Effective

Identity Negotiation Theory Paper
Identity negotiation theory is a theory that suggests that people are constantly negotiating who they are
to other people that they talk to, if even only subconsciously. Identity negotiation refers to the process
through which perceivers and targets come to agreements regarding their identities Swann (2014).
This essay analyzes self identity theory, based on the facts that the theory suggests, particularly how
people negotiate their feelings, respect for each other, and in many ways even their interests and
disinterests, then I will critique the theory in question. First, this essay will discuss how people
negotiate their feelings on a daily basis based off the theory in question. When one says hello or a
similar greeting to someone else the speaker is asking (if even somewhat subconsciously) how the
other person is feeling. Usually the other person will communicate back their feelings, which is
answered in a pretty simplistic manner. If the person that answers the greeting says that they are doing
well, then that means that they are in a good mood and are interested in driving the communication
further; if that same person says that they are doing bad then that means that they re not feeling well
today, but are still interested in furthering the conversation; and if a person doesn t answer the
question at all, then that means that that person is probably not ... Show more content on

Sophocles Oedipus Rex as Modern Tragedy Essay examples
Oedipus Rex and Tragedy
Sophocles Oedipus Rex is, in short, the story of a man who unknowingly kills his father and marries
his mother. It certainly sounds like a tragedy, doesn t it? But the classification and definition of
tragedy are one of the many things widely disputed in the realm of literary studies. So, for the
purposes here we ll use Aristotle s five criteria of a tragedy: a tragic hero of noble birth, a tragic flaw
or mistake, a fall from grace, a moment of remorse, and catharsis. By any standard, Oedipus Rex
clearly meets these five criteria. In The Poetics, Aristotle uses Oedipus to illustrate the ideal tragedy.
Aristotle writes Oedipus is a model tragic hero because he is a man of high standing, but not ... Show

Hamartia is a tragic flaw, or literally in Greek a mistake , which accompanies the tragic hero but does
not lead to the hero s death. Oedipus tragic flaw was his pride, self righteousness, and perhaps even
his temper. He displays his temper when he kills Laios and all the travelers with him; Swinging my
club with this right hand I knocked him out of his car, and he rolled on the ground. I killed him. I
killed them all. His temper is also displayed when Teiresias reveals his fate and the answer to the
question that he has posed to all of Thebes. ...Damnation Take you! Out of this place! Out of my sight!
Both of these examples can no doubt be classified under his pride as well, and perhaps even more
pointedly because it is his pride that causes his temper; and, it is specifically his pride that ironically
leads to his fulfilling the prophecy. His self righteousness is displayed most clearly by his desire to be
a hero by vowing to find Lauis murderer, as mentioned above. In another stroke of irony, it is this self
righteous desire that leads to the awful realization of the prophecy s fulfillment. The third criteria
Aristotle uses is Peripateia. Peripateia is the complete reversal of plot in relation to the tragic hero; or,
in other words, a fall from grace. Oedipus starts out as the king of Thebes. In relation to peripateia, the
only way that Oedipus can have a complete reversal is for him to go down hill in a

The Impact of the British Empire s Rule on India
Introduction In this essay I will be discussing the impact that the rule of the British Empire had on
India s development as a nation. I will be looking at how British imperial rule both benefitted and
hindered the growth of India economically, socially, and culturally. To do this I will be looking at the
beginning of the British Empire s involvement in India, right up until India gained its independence
from Britain on the 15th of August 1947. The purpose of this essay is to examine the long lasting
effects of the British Empire on the Indian nation. India, like all colonies, was affected in many ways
by the age of imperialism, and those effects are still evident today. The essay will look at both sides of
the argument, allowing for positive and negative effects before finally concluding with a summary and
re iteration of the points and arguments made throughout the essay. The essay will avoid taking sides,
but rather the aim is to merely give an account of the positive and negative effects of British
imperialism in India. The essay as previously mentioned will focus on the economic, cultural, and
social effects.
Historical Context and Background
British involvement on the Indian subcontinent began early in the 17th Century through the British
East India Company and its business ventures and dealings. The early British Empire was composed

Soundcloud In The Movie Industry
Everywhere people look, there is a screen. Whether it s a laptop, television, phone, tablet, or a cinema,
screens encompass society. Additionally, the content we watch on these devices is growing at a
prolific rate. This is due to easy access of programs, like Final Cut, Premiere Pro, and iMovie, that
allow basically anyone to make their own video or movie. Some say that this ability to produce
movies easier than ever before poses a threat to the integrity of the movie industry, claiming streaming
sites, legitimate or otherwise, are shifting people away from the theater and moving them toward
home entertainment. However, I believe this change in film production is only creating more sub
genres of film, and not actually degrading Cinema s good ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Soundcloud is a relatively new music streaming site that enables up and coming rappers to easily
release their content to a large audience. Many rappers, now referred to as soundcloud rappers, use
this site to increase their chances of stardom in an otherwise competitive enterprise. Artists such as Lil
Yachty, XXX Tentacion, Lil Pump, Lil Uzi Vert, and Jay Critch, all became famous by utilizing the
streaming sites fan base to gain followers. This rise in Soundcloud rappers created a subgenre of hip
hop music, known as soundcloud rap, without degrading the integrity of hip hop. While this subgenre
has increased in popularity in the past year significantly, artists that represent the gems of hip hop, like
Kendrick Lamar, Joey Bada$$, J Cole, Jay Z, and Schoolboy Q, all still play a major role in
mainstream hip hop, maintaining the fundamentals of genre. In addition, many of these notably artist
of the hip hop industry use their celebrity status to bolster the growth of the Soundcloud rappers. For
Instance, Chance the Rapper, who won three awards at the 59th Grammy Award, promoted the use of
free music to enable new artists to show their talent to a large audience, and also supported
Soundcloud when their finances were limited. Ultimately, when easy access to recording and releasing

Major events have crafted the United States and other nations into what they are today. Going from
world wars in the 1940 s, to civil rights movements in the 1960 s, to extravagant national debt today,
have all played a part in shaping our nation. Being from rural Mississippi, world news being made
here is uncommon. We see all of our major news from televisions or newspapers, and this news is all
happening elsewhere, far from here. Whether it is a good thing that we do not make the big news or
not, the fear of uncertain events still lingers. From shootings in schools to bombings in cities, we are
fortunate for being seemingly far from these dangers. Even though no physical effects pertain to me,
mental pain and fear stays and leaves doubt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Did Gandhi Impact Society

Gandhi s Impact
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, who lead the non violence movement in South Africa and India from
1969 to 1948, fought against racial prejudice, and helped India gain independence from the British.
Gandhi went to India and saw how unfairly people were being treated and at the time, India was under
Great Britain s rule, causing exploitation and deprivation of Indians. Gandhi wanted to change this,
and began his non violent changes that were extraordinary but not in the long run since many
problems emerged after India won independence from Britain. Consequently, Gandhi s
accomplishments, to a certain degree, were extraordinary given the situation between Britain and
India.

India was the crown jewel of Britain and unlike most of Britain s territories, India had a big population
and an abundance of natural resources. The British raj, meaning the rule by the British crown in the
Indian subcontinent, failed to give the Raj Indians the freedom to rule India, breaking their promise.
The British also imposed taxes on the Indians without considering the poor people of India. These
problems lead to the Indian mutiny and allowed for Gandhi to step up and start his movement.
Considering his context, Gandhi s achievements were extraordinary to a certain degree. To begin,
Gandhi first introduced his idea of Satyagraha, meaning non violent resistance or civil resistance.
Using this philosophy, Gandhi led a non violence movement to gain independence from the british,
commonly known as the non cooperation movement. At the time, his movement was remarkable and
got a lot of attention on a national level. Although this movement was extraordinary, the movement
failed because individuals who took things into their own hands set fire to a police station and killing
23 police officials. As a result, Gandhi ended the non cooperation movement.

Washington Irving s Rip Van Winkle And Its Role In...
This essay discusses Washington Irving s Rip Van Winkle and its role in American Mythology. The
characteristics of the story s main characters will be analyzed briefly, as will their effects on the plot.
In Rip Van Winkle the main character, Rip, seems to have an aversion to responsibility. As the story
progresses, we that he persistently neglects his responsibilities. He seems to not even care about his
own son, who is said to be a ditto of himself. He often times eludes the activities that come with
keeping a farm, which is obvious because his farm is called the most pestilent little piece of ground in
the whole country (Irving, 64). However horrible his farm might look, he is liked by everyone in his
village, excluding his wife, Dame Van Winkle. He often goes to the village inn or hunting to escape
said responsibilities. Despite his complete lack of ambition, the reader would be able to sympathize
with him. The reader would see him ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The people of the Inn were also different having quarrelsome arguments instead of the dispassionate
peacefulness he once knew. When he finally as the ability to speak, he inquiries about his past friends,
which are either dead or moved away. The patrons of the Inn finally recognize him, along with his
daughter, who has his grandchild with her. He then asks about his wife, who they say died of a broken
blood vessel yelling at a New England peddler. Upon hearing this, Rip feels relief. For it was his wife
s shrewish yell that he wanted to get away from. Furthermore, he realizes that now he is at an
acceptable age where his idleness is to be expected. He is additionally comforted by the fact that he
has no obligations. He is finally at a time in his life where he is content. He is even happy for ridding
himself of anything that prohibited his idleness. The reader would feel that Rip was an extremely easy

Julia Harris And Artur Samarin In The Great High School...
Everyone does crazy things. Sometimes, people cannot control themselves from acting out or doing
things that could harm others. Julia Snyde, the unsub from Gentlemen and Players by Joanne Harris
and Artur Samarin from The Great High School Impostor by Daniel Riley are portrayed as evil people
because they both make selfish decisions that hurt others around them to fulfil their motives of
extracting revenge on St Oswald s and having a comfortable life in the US respectively. But that is just
one side of the story. They have had very difficult upbringings and have never felt loved. Julia Snyde

result of PTSD caused by spending their childhood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But, this does not work in either case as the relationships formed are emotionally damaging and even
illegal in the case of Artur. While pretending to be a boy to attend St Oswald s, Julia Snyde meets
Leon and immediately falls in love with him. But, Leon does not feel the same way. In fact, even
when he knows that Julia is in love with him, he continues to play with her emotions and makes her
spend time around him when he is with Francesa, his new girlfriend. Leon is a vain, self centred
teenager who enjoys tormenting Julia. Leon knows that Julia does not enjoy being around Francesa.
But, he forces her to. Snyde said that she had a shack... it was there that we went, I keeping watch,
smoking and trying not to listen to the sounds that came from the little shack behind me (Harris 213).
Leon makes Julia Snyde keep watch while he was sexual intercourse with Francesa just a few feet
away. Only a sick, mentally unstable human would do such things. He subjects both Julia and
Francesa to a feeling of him wanting the other and mentally torments Julia as she has to watch the love
of her life, be with another girl and she can t do anything about it. This affects Julia so heavily that she
is never able to have a good relationship with anyone in her life without feeling insecure about herself.
In fact, she harms or pushes people away before that can do the same to her. She

Integrated Approach to Care of Common Genitourinary Problems This approach will incorporate
techniques for care and treatment for the infected persons. Genitourinary infections are diseases that
are caused by either virus, bacteria or even parasites that are transmitted during sexual association
with an infected partner (Barlow, 2011). Efforts or attempts to develop a comprehensive approach to
care for people with common genitourinary infections will have to analyze several features of the
problem. The first characteristic of this problem is that there is a rapid increasing prevalence rate for
people with genitourinary infections ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second element that will need to be incorporated in the integrated care approach is the element or
method of guidelines. This technique will enable community care; primary and other health care
providers to use guidelines that they have formulated to provide pathways that will meet the needs of
patients with genitourinary infections (Pattman, 2010). This approach will source information from
opinion leaders, educational materials, practice facilitation, audit, multifaceted interventions, and
feedback. The third and last element of this approach is the method of enhancing self management.
This approach will enable community care, primary care, and other health care providers to support
patients with genitourinary infections to support efficiently and self mange themselves. This approach
will enhance improved overall clinical outcomes because of family and patients education as feasible
strategies for using self management materials. This approach will greatly depend on home based
support, ICT and other interventions aimed at promoting the correct pharmaceutical use of
genitourinary medicine by consumers (Rogstad, 2011). These approaches will be faced by many
barriers in the implementation phase. Healthcare may not appropriately reach old age patients
(Watkins, 2011). Again some cultures believe in traditional methods of treatment, this will
significantly increase the prevalence rate for patients with genitourinary

An Analysis Of David Heyman And The Harry Potter Film...
David Heyman and the Harry Potter Film Franchise
FTV 434
Taylor Grewe
December 11, 2013 The role of a producer in the filmmaking process involves financial and technical
responsibilities, as well as creative responsibilities. As the industry evolved, producers were typically
associated with the financial and technical side of filmmaking, more so than the creative side.
However, in the last three decades, more and more producers are being recognized for their creative
involvement (Pardo 2). In 1997, David Heyman, a British film producer, discovered the book Harry
Potter and the Philosopher s Stone by J.K. Rowling (McNary). Almost immediately, Heyman began
working to secure the film rights, having no idea that he was embarking on a project that, according to
IMDb, would become the highest grossing film franchise in history (IMDb). His creative involvement,
on the production of the films, stems from the fact that he truly loves the Harry Potter book series. The
success of the franchise had much to do with what can be referred to as the Potter formula : Heyman s
direct involvement in the novel to film adaption process, his decision to work with a team of Potter
fans, many of which returned to work on all 8 installments, and his careful selection of directors who
shared his vision. This Potter Unit of returning cast and crew members included writer Steve Kloves,
production designer Stuart Craig, the majority of cast members, as well as many more. Having

The Symbols Of Robert Frost s The Road Not Taken
Robert Frost went from an unstable farmer aspiring to be a poet to a celebrated American poet and
four time Pulitzer Prize winner. In his poem The Road Not Taken , he writes about the hard choices
that people have to make in their lives. Robert uses extended metaphors and symbolism to show the
uncertainty and psychological chaos people feel while making hard choices. Robert was born in San
Francisco, California on March 26th, 1874. His parents, William Prescott Frost and Isabelle Moodie
were both teachers ( Robert 1). William and Isabelle met while they were both teaching in
Pennsylvania and fell in love. In 1884 William Frost died, leaving his wife and son on their own. The
family struggles financially since they were only receiving one check instead of two (Encyclopedia 1).
Throughout elementary and middle school, Robert surprisingly didn t like going to school. He would
have rather been playing football or baseball with his friends. His mother made him realize the
importance of an education just in time for high school (American 1). In 1892 he graduated high
school as a valedictorian along with Elinor White. Robert was accepted into Dartmouth college and
only finished one term. Robert and Elinor got accepted into different and when she wouldn t agree
with him to quit college to marry him, he got jealous thinking she was seeing other men. He left
Dartmouth college but could not get Elinor to quit her studies to marry him ( Robert 2). During

Even though the film was meant to funny, it did make me think about different cultural preduice and

What s the Deal?
The election of Franklin D. Roosevelt was considered a beacon of hope among the American people
following years of relentless economic hardship. Roosevelt s immense, decisive victory over Herbert
Hoover signified America wanted something different. Fortunately, Roosevelt did not disappoint. In
his first two years of office, Roosevelt devised a plan to shift America s financial crisis into a positive
direction; fundamentally, setting a new standard for government intervention in the economy. In
particular, one of Roosevelt s most significant economic plans would come to be known as the New
Deal. The New Deal established a series of federal programs that sought to relieve the calamities

Therefore, the CCC was widely successful at stimulating both economic and environmental growth.
By 1942, the CCC had already planted nearly two to three billion trees and worked to establish nearly
800 state parks. In addition, nearly twelve to fifteen million people directly benefited from CCC
enrollee checks, and 3,463,766 men had been enrolled in the CCC program by the beginning of World
War II (CCC History). All in all, the program had extreme support from the public. By 1934, the
Corps had nearly universal approval and praise of the country ( Civilian Conservation Corps Legacy ).
Mandatory monthly $25 allotment checks to families greatly boosted the American economy (
Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) ). The strongest opposition regarding the CCC program came
from state officials. With the CCC enrollees earning $30 a month, some complained that the $25
allotment was far too high. If states were to lower the allotment, the relief costs per state would greatly
increase ( Civilian Conservation Corps Legacy ). The number of individuals who complained about
their living costs and monthly allotments were far too low to actually cause any sort of turmoil. And,

The Wise Sea Poem Analysis
The Wise Men Speak
(An Analysis on Sailing)
William Butler Yeats, was a poet from the Victorian age. Philosophers say that Yeats was one of the
greatest poets of all time, William Butler Yeats is widely considered to be one of the greatest poets of
the 20th century (Adams). One of Yeats most famous poem was Sailing to Byzantium. In the poem
Sailing, Yeats expresses three very important messages. The messages that Yeats expresses in Sailing
are, that the soul wants to leave body when it s about time to go, the elders are more wise, and that
younger generation doesn t listen to their elders. In the poem Sailing, Yeats expresses that as our body
ages our souls are ready to be set free. Our souls never age, but our bodies do. As our bodies start to
age our souls are ready to be set free from our aging bodies. Yeats states that when our souls are close
to being set free they start to sing, Soul clap its hands and sing, louder sing (11). The soul is
celebrating that it s about to be set free from its aging body. Our bodies are dead, but our souls
continue to live on. Dr. Duncan MacDougall of Haverhill, Massachusetts states, Human beings are
possessed of souls which depart their bodies after death and that these souls have detectable physical
presences were around well before the 20th century . Our souls continue to live after we are no longer
living. Another message represented in the poem Sailing, is that our elders are wise. Our elders are
wiser than the young because

  • 4. Biblical Allusions in The Magician s Nephew The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician s Nephew is very interesting story wise. It has a lot of good morals and allegories teaching integrity, self control and wisdom and is mostly composed of biblical allusions. A biblical allusion is to use a reference from the bible to communicate a hidden meaning. You could compare your best friend to Jonathan, King David s loyal friend in the books of Samuel. You could also illustrate faith through the strength of the disciples as they remained faithful even in persecution. Many biblical allusions can be found here in The Magician s Nephew . The problems of the main characters, Digory and Polly, started when they entered the world of Charn. Out of curiosity, Digory rang a bell that had awoken ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He created music and sang as he continued to orchestrate the forming of this new and clean world. This is similar to the description in the Genesis 1 where the creation of our world is narrated. Aslan had also chosen specific animals to have the power of speech. Those who had this free will to speak had been given the land that was created to populate. This is closely related to the creation of man and woman and the freedom of speech for humanity. As long as they did not go back to their old ways as dumb animals, the speaking animals were given authority by Aslan to govern the animals who could not talk. Lewis gives us a hint that humans are dumb in nature, and that we would be nothing without God, for He is the only one who can raise us up from the lowly beginning from whence we had come from. Here is a quote from the book showing the authority of Aslan, just as God has authority over us as His creation. Creatures, I give you yourselves, said the strong, happy voice of Aslan. I give to you forever this land of Narnia. I give you the woods, the fruits, the rivers. I give you the stars and I give you myself. The Dumb Beasts whom I have not chosen are yours also. Treat them gently and cherish them but do not go back to their ways lest you cease to be Talking Beasts. For out of them you were taken and into them you can return. Do not so. • 5. The Rights Of The United States Constitution The United States Constitution was designed to enfranchise the white men who, in 1787, were the only citizens included in John Locke s conception of the social contract (outlined in his Second Treatise of Government). At this time in history, women were not invited to be free and equal, in relation to their husbands and fathers or as citizens in the founding fathers new republic. Therefore, the Constitution never addresses abortion, contraception, or marriage. Arguments made in laws and court cases on these topics, specifically reproductive rights, have therefore traditionally rested on a right to privacy the court has interpreted as being found in the first, fourth, fifth, and fourteenth amendments to the Constitution, rather than a right to freedom from sex based discrimination found in the nineteenth amendment. The landmark supreme court cases Griswold v. Connecticut and Roe v. Wade were both won on these grounds, both setting a precedent for the expansion of the right to privacy. This protection has also been affected by the 2003 Partial Birth Abortion Ban and the Hyde Amendment. First off, in 1965 the supreme court ruled 7 2 in the Griswold v. Connecticut case that the state of Connecticut s ban on contraception was unconstitutional, because it denied a married couple s right to privacy (a right extended to unmarried individuals under the Griswold precedent in the 1972 Eisenstadt v. Baird supreme court case). This expansion of privacy in Griswold later informed Roe v. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Under The Black Umbrella Under the Black Umbrella tells the many captivating stories about the 35 years of Japanese occupation in Korea through both world wars. The memories are all from the perspective of Korean men and women who lived through some or all of it. Many of their stories and the history during that time are influenced by several factors, some of which include their location in Korea or surrounding areas and the government s involvement in recording history. The Japanese were not all awful to the Koreans, since they were humans all the same, but they committed enough atrocities to have a bad reputation with the Koreans. In attempts to unify, North Koreans employed nationalism and ethnocentrism to fuel their way to become a strong nation again. South Koreans did not rally around such extreme ways and did not utilize their northern brethren s methods of fear for power. Back then and now, globalization is a part of life and it should not be stifled. Nationalistic thinking will bring about more pain and suffering rather than just trying to coexist. I was looking for that one perfect career where I could support myself and not have to depend on anyone else financially. Glucose And Starch Lab Report Starch and Water Diffusing Into Either Iodine or Glucose Through a Semi Permeable Dialysis Tubing Diffusion is a high concertation of molecules spreading randomly to a lower concertation. This an example of passive transport that does not require ATP. A lipid bilayer can only easily allow small molecules that are non polar through it. Water is an exception because it can defuse through with a process called Osmosis. Special aquaporin proteins allow the water through the semi permeable membrane. Starch is a polysaccharide made of many glucose monosaccharides bonded together. It is insoluble in water. Glucose is soluble in water and is also a monosaccharide. When Marcus and Narcissa Whitman made the first trip along the Oregon Trail, many Americans saw a window of opportunity. The Oregon Trail was the only practical way to pass through the Rockies. Pioneers crammed themselves into small wagons to try to make it to the unsettled land; however, 10% of these pioneers died on the way due to disease and accidents. The journey along the Oregon Trail was a very long and rough experience. Stretching out to almost a whopping 2000 miles it usually took the pioneers 4 6 months travelling at 12 to 16 miles per hour. The role of the Native Americans during the time of the Oregon Trail was a very important one. The first section of the Oregon Trail bisected two major Native American tribes, these were the Cheyenne to the north and the Pawnee to the south. Many of the travelers feared attacks by these tribes but were surprised when they were allowed to pass unharmed. The Native Americans were the opposite of what was expected of them. They were very helpful to the travelers. They often helped travelers pull out stuck wagons, rescue drowning travelers, and even round up lost cattle. Native Americans also acted as guides, carried messages between wagon trains, traded with the travelers, and even helped some travelers cross Indian land. Most of the encounters with the Native Americans were simple business transactions. Travelers traded clothing, rifles, and tobacco products in exchange for horses and food. However, many travelers complained that the Native Americans charged expensive tolls for crossing their lands. Conflicts between the Indians and the travelers were pretty rare. Out of the 500,000 people to travel along the Oregon Trail fewer than 400 pioneers lost their lives due to attacks. When the travelers had overgrazed the prairie grasses, burned all the available firewood, and killed all the herds of buffalo attacks were expected by the travelers. In order to ... • 11. To What Extent Does Access To Condoms Prevent Teenage... Does access to condoms prevent teen pregnancy? I strongly agree that condoms do help the prevention of teen pregnancy. Condoms should actually be placed in schools, doctor offices, community youth centers and just about everywhere teens are found. I believe that everywhere teens hang out there should be condoms available to them either free or little to no cost. The more access and availability to condoms teens have the more they will use them to protect themselves and the less teen pregnancy and STI rate they will have. Convenient condom access and availability simply helps our teens because they will most likely receive education and confidentiality with those condoms. Many Hispanics attempt to enter the United States in search of a better life and to have an enjoyable way of life. However, living in constant fear of being deported and consistently being judged simply because of one s color, or the inability to communicate in English; that does not sound like the American dream. Typically, people have real reasons to emigrate to the United States, and it is in great part due to necessity. Most people have families they leave behind because they need money in order to survive and have food on the table every day, they see the United States as the solution to their problem. On another note, the 1960 s movements emerged during the Civil Rights era, in order to earn justice and rights for Mexican Americans in the United States. After years of being ignored, Mexicans decided to take a stand through the help of activists, hoping to attain victories for the Chicano community. Overall, after constant oppression, Chicanos fought back all the harsh treatment through the Chicano Movement arguing for a broad section of issues; however, nowadays many racial problems continue to exist, such as SB 1070 and HB 2281, which were polemical bills classified as racial attacks; they were directly aimed towards Mexicans. • 14. No Country For Old Men Themes There are several apparent themes throughout the film No Country for Old Men . These themes express a particular opinion about human nature and life in general. Although this film is complex, and in my opinion littered with several themes, the three main themes are violence, good vs. evil, and fate vs. freewill. There are many reasons why these three are the most central themes in this movie, as well as many scenes that portray this observation. The fact that No Country for Old Men is a violent movie is apparent almost immediately. The first main character that we are introduced to visually is Anton Chigruh. Our first insight into his character is that he has a complete disregard for human life, which contributes to his eerie and unsettling persona; even the manner in which he kills people furthers this observation. He uses a pressurized cattle gun, as if the life of a cow and life of a human are one in the same. Furthermore, while watching this film you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... evil. In this scene, you see a glimpse into the struggle between good vs evil. This scene, of course, is a small example of the overall good vs. evil theme as a whole. In a larger more general sense, good vs. evil is shown in the plot of the story. The plot can be captured in these two questions: Will the sheriff Ed Tom Bell (the good guy) catch Anton Chigruh or Llewelyn Moss (the bad guys)? And in whose hands will the money fall? During exercise energy comes from Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP). There are 3 energy systems, these are glycolysis, phosphocreatine (ATP CP) and the aerobic system. During short term intense activities a large amount of power needs to be produced by the muscles creating a high demand for ATP. The phosphagen system (ATP CP system) is the quickest way to resynthesize ATP, Robergs Roberts 1997. Very little energy is produced through this pathway, but the energy is gained very quickly. Once pyruvate is formed, it has two fates: conversion to lactate or conversion into metabolic intermediary molecule called acetyl co enzyme A (acetyl CoA), and this enters the mitochondria for oxidation and the production of more ATP, Robergs Roberts 1997. Conversion to lactate occurs when the demand for oxygen is greater than the supply, so for example during anaerobic exercise. Conversely, when there is enough oxygen available to meet the muscles needs, pyruvate, via the acetyl CoA) enters the mitochondria and goes through the aerobic metabolism. When oxygen is not supplied fast enough to meet the muscles needs (anaerobic glycolysis), there is an increase in hydrogen ions, this causes the muscle pH to decrease; a condition called acidosis, and other metabolites ADP, P and potassium ions. Acidosis and the accumulation of these other metabolites cause a number of problems inside the muscles, including inhibition of specific enzymes involved in metabolism and muscle contraction, inhibition of the release of calcium, this is the trigger for muscle contraction, from its storage in muscles, and interference with the muscles electrical charges, Enoka Stuart 1992; Glaister 2005; McLester 1997. As noted in a recent update of Opening Doors, the federal plan to end homelessness, [US Department of Health and Human Services], HUD, [the US Department of Veterans Affairs], and USICH have joined forces to promote expansion of rapid re housing as a part of community coordinated systems (USICH 2013). Music of Robert Schumann as a New Stage in the Development of Romanticism Music of Robert Schumann embodies many of the most characteristic features of German Romanticism deep psychological insight, aspiration for the ideal, intimacy, irony and bitterness. Advanced aesthetic tendencies of German culture in the period of 1820 40s found vivid expression in his music. In contradictions, which are inherent in Schumann s music, reflected the complex contradictions of the social life from his time. His music is filled with a restless, rebellious spirit that puts him in the same line with Byron, Heine, Goethe, Wagner and others. However, the theme of rebellion in the music of Schumann has a psychological, but very lyrical representation. Compared to Heinrich Heine, Victor Hugo, and Ludwig Van Beethoven who viewed the world through the prism of social injustice, Schumann did not aim towards social revolt. The greatest part of his diverse heritage was his personal confession in music. Schumann s piano music, for instance, Kreisleriana, Op.16 and the Symphonic Etudes, op.13, are truly a musical encyclopedia of the human soul with many nuances and tones, with shades of colors of joy, sorrow, anguish, doubt and struggle, dreams and anxieties, rush, despair, faith and courage. First, this essay will discuss how people negotiate their feelings on a daily basis based off the theory in question. When one says hello or a similar greeting to someone else the speaker is asking (if even somewhat subconsciously) how the other person is feeling. Usually the other person will communicate back their feelings, which is answered in a pretty simplistic manner. If the person that answers the greeting says that they are doing well, then that means that they are in a good mood and are interested in driving the communication further; if that same person says that they are doing bad then that means that they re not feeling well today, but are still interested in furthering the conversation; and if a person doesn t answer the question at all, then that means that that person is probably not ... • 37. Sophocles Oedipus Rex as Modern Tragedy Essay examples Oedipus Rex and Tragedy Sophocles Oedipus Rex is, in short, the story of a man who unknowingly kills his father and marries his mother. It certainly sounds like a tragedy, doesn t it? But the classification and definition of tragedy are one of the many things widely disputed in the realm of literary studies. So, for the purposes here we ll use Aristotle s five criteria of a tragedy: a tragic hero of noble birth, a tragic flaw or mistake, a fall from grace, a moment of remorse, and catharsis. By any standard, Oedipus Rex clearly meets these five criteria. In The Poetics, Aristotle uses Oedipus to illustrate the ideal tragedy. Aristotle writes Oedipus is a model tragic hero because he is a man of high standing, but not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hamartia is a tragic flaw, or literally in Greek a mistake , which accompanies the tragic hero but does not lead to the hero s death. Oedipus tragic flaw was his pride, self righteousness, and perhaps even his temper. He displays his temper when he kills Laios and all the travelers with him; Swinging my club with this right hand I knocked him out of his car, and he rolled on the ground. I killed him. I killed them all. His temper is also displayed when Teiresias reveals his fate and the answer to the question that he has posed to all of Thebes. ...Damnation Take you! Out of this place! Out of my sight! Both of these examples can no doubt be classified under his pride as well, and perhaps even more pointedly because it is his pride that causes his temper; and, it is specifically his pride that ironically leads to his fulfilling the prophecy. His self righteousness is displayed most clearly by his desire to be a hero by vowing to find Lauis murderer, as mentioned above. In another stroke of irony, it is this self righteous desire that leads to the awful realization of the prophecy s fulfillment. The third criteria Aristotle uses is Peripateia. Peripateia is the complete reversal of plot in relation to the tragic hero; or, in other words, a fall from grace. Oedipus starts out as the king of Thebes. In relation to peripateia, the only way that Oedipus can have a complete reversal is for him to go down hill in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
