Cult Of True Womanhood Summary
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), but since technological and medical advancements in the area
of hormones and brain functions it was just called shell shock syndrome. The treatment plan was
known for two portions seriously: the rest and the seclusion. Those who were prescribed the rest cure
were confined to bed for weeks to months at a time and completely cut off from family members and
friends. However, this treatment of confining patients to their beds and cutting them off from family
members was mainly used for women. On the other hand, men who were prescribed the rest cure were
given two options: to rest or to travel to remote areas and undertake rugged, outdoors life . Dr.
Mitchell was influenced by the ideas of the 19th Century also known as The Cult of True Womanhood
. According to the Cult of True Womanhood in order to be a true ... Show more content on

Mitchell was predisposed to think that women did not need to leave there bed or even their homes
when they were ill. The rest cure also exacerbated normal gender roles of that era. Men were the ones
who belonged in the outside world; they were the bread winners. Men needed to be outside of the
home and to take care of the needs of everyone in it. In contrast, women were supposed to inside the
home of take care of the home. Dr. Mitchell ensures men were not feeling emasculated by being
subject to the same treatment as women and be subject to their homes where they felt only women
were supposed to be. The story The Yellow Wallpaper by Gilman, highlight the mental distress that the
rest cure tolls on your mental state. Gilman wrote The Yellow Wallpaper because of her experience on
the rest cure and she wanted to save people from being driven crazy . Another reason that Gilman
could have written the short story is to show that women need intellectual stimulation as much as men
and that living domestically and not doing things that express a person s creative side could drive them
insane.

Phonetics of English
Phonetics of English
Outline
1. Classification of English consonants
2. Classification of English vowels
3. Modifications of consonants and vowels
4. British and American pronunciation models. Most distinctive features of American English

5. Suprasegmental phonetics
1. Classification of English consonants
Russian phoneticians classify consonants according to the following principles: i) degree of noise; ii)
place of articulation; iii) manner of articulation; iv) position of the soft palate; v) force of articulation.
(I) There are few ways of seeing situation concerning the classification of English consonants.

Russian phoneticians suggest a classification of vowels according to the following principles: 1)
stability of articulation; 2) tongue position; 3) lip position; 4) character of the vowel end; 5) length; 6)
tenseness.
1. Stability of articulation. This principle is not singled out by British and American phoneticians.
According to Russian scholars vowels are subdivided into: a) monophthongs (the tongue position is
stable); b) diphthongs (it changes, that is the tongue moves from one position to another); c)
diphthongoids (an intermediate case, when the change in the position is fairly weak).
Diphthongs are defined differently by different authors. A.C. Gimson, for example, distinguishes 20
vocalic phonemes which are made of vowels and vowel glides. D. Jones defines diphthongs as
unisyllabic gliding sounds in the articulation of which the organs of speech start from one position and
then glide to another position. There are two vowels in English [i:, u:] that may have a diphthongal
glide where they have full length, and the tendency for diphthongization is becoming gradually
stronger.
2. The position of the tongue. According to the horizontal movement Russian phoneticians distinguish
five classes: 1) front; 2) front retracted; 3) central; 4) back; 5) back advanced.
British phoneticians do not single out the classes of front retracted and back advanced vowels. So both
[i:] and [ɪ] are classed as front, and both [u:] and [] are classed as back.

Looking At Cultural Relativism, By John Ross Essay
Looking at cultural relativism, you get a better understanding of the world. Just because something
may seem weird it doesn t always mean it s wrong. When you get closer to the situation, you become
aware of why a culture does a certain ritual or acts a certain way. In light of everything, you find that
what they do is not weird at all but rather a way of living within that specific culture.
An example of this from the readings would be the Innuit. The Innuit make their home in the isolated
land of Greenland all the way to Alaska. They have a very primitive way of living and have adapted to
the cold icy climate. They have a nickname that is better known universally and that would be the
term eskimo. In 1577, John Ross, an explorer, came across a group of Innuit hunters. The Innuit were
very fascinated with Ross s ship and they strangely dressed people on the ship. But what they found to
be most shocking was the amount of wood that made up the ship and the furniture on the ship.
The hunters thought that is was ridiculous or weird that the strange men have that much wood. The
hunters that Ross had came across was from Greenland, a place that had little to no wood, therefore
they were not used to seeing that much wood in one place. Everything they do is centered around ice,
even their homes are made out of ice. So we cannot really judge them on thinking that Ross and his
men were some type of aliens. They did not know better, for all they knew, they had been the only

Ronald Reagan s Challenger Address Rhetorical Devices
Analysis of Reagan s Challenger Disaster Address
Introduction: Imagine watching a space shuttle take off and being really excited and then BAM
EXPLOSION. On live TV, millions of viewers saw the explosion take place and the death of seven
astronauts. The world was in mourning and President Ronald Reagan was the only one who could give
the nation comfort. During our time in this course, we have learned a lot about how to structure a
speech to maximize its effects. As a class, we can learn a lot about how to give a great speech from
Reagan s Challenger address. President Reagan analyzed the needs of his audience and used strong
speech techniques and stylistic devices to provide comfort to a grieving nation and give hope for a
better future. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the context of this speech, Ronald Reagan is important because he was the president of the United
States during the Challenger disaster, and it affected a lot of Americans.
b. Description of the Situation
i. President Reagan gave his speech at the White House in the Oval Office at 5 pm on January 28,
1986 after the Challenger explosion had occurred earlier. That day his address was live on TV and
nationwide radio. On this day, Reagan was supposed to give the State of the Union Address, but chose
to address the disaster instead (Moyer). By giving this speech instead, he showed he valued the lives
of the astronauts above his own presidency. ii. This speech was preceded by the explosion of the space
shuttle Challenger. Seven astronauts, including the first schoolteacher in space, Christa McAuliffe,
perished in the explosion, and all of America was in mourning after watching it live on television
(Moyer). Since Reagan was expected to give a State of the Union Address and Americans would be
watching, he choose to address the disaster at this time. The speech was delivered from the Oval
Office because it was a professional speech coming from the president. Being in the Oval Office gave
Reagan credibility, and broadcasting it allowed him to reach many

Adolescent Obesity Epidemic Analysis
The obesity epidemic as a whole is a relatively new phenomenon that encompasses the United States
as well as other countries around the world. Adolescent obesity is an especially important area to
research because the teenage years are a period in one s life that knowledge of health and nutrition
should be comprehended and the decisions one is capable of making can have a life long impact.
Obesity in adolescence has far reaching health and social consequences. Gaining insight into the
changes in our society can offer various explanations for the cause and initiate numerous proposals for
reversing the obesity epidemic. As a mother of two young children, who love their pizza and pop tarts,

Who Am I Who I Am
Why I am Who I am
When I think back to why I am who I am, I think back to my childhood and what memories have
stuck in my mind. They often come up in certain situations as a reminder to never forget the people
that love me, or the places that I love that influence my choices and the road to my future goals. I try
my best to follow advice and recollect on the important things in life, like zipping up my coat or
enjoying time with my family, making the best out of situations and thinking positively. I remember
repetitive smells or touch that one day added to my mind and never left, that will always be a part of
me, Now I am eighteen and in college, about to start a new chapter my life and compose new
memories with new people. Thinking back now makes me wonder what it will be like to think back
years from now to these moments that im making now, and how I will connect them all.
Zip it up or don t go outside my teacher would declare to me, because I still couldn t zip up my own
coat without someone s help. Could you please help me? I asked, Try zipping it up or don t go outside
, I remember her reciting it in a somewhat of a rude tone and it was announced in front of the class,
usually in line before recess, which did not make me feel any better. The pressure of doing it in front
of the class made me a bit frightened, I could feel their wide eyes on me which only made me more
nervous. With my small fingers trembling

Nursing Philosophy Research Paper
For us to talk about nursing philosophy, I believe that one must first decide what philosophy means to
them. There is not one clear definition of philosophy, but according to the American Heritage
Dictionary of the English language (2000), philosophy is an underlying theory or set of ideas relating
to a particular field of activity or to life as a whole. I believe this definition ties with my nursing
philosophy, because every nurse has different ideas of their own. Therefore, my nursing philosophy is
to provide holistic patient centered care, to deliver compassionate care and to care for my patient with
the best of my ability using all my knowledge, I believe that education plays a significant role in my
philosophy. Continued education gives me more knowledge, which allows me to provide better care
every day. Nurses need to use that knowledge to help those who are unable to help themselves. ...

Each person needs to be treated as an individual, not a room number or any disease. They should
receive care, with disregard to background, beliefs, or sexual orientation. I also believe that as a
patient, she/he has the right to participate in their own care. Whichever goal they have a nurse should
help achieve that goal. Whether the goal is quality of life or dignity of death, a nurse should be there to
advocate for the patient. My perspective on the environment, is that even though nursing focuses on
human beings, we also need to look at the environment in which he/she lives. The community can be a
large community or a small community, but at the end of the day community influence the patients.
Society should be able to trust the healthcare provider to deliver care, at any time. A nurse should

Literature Review On Sparse Group Lasso
b. Sparse Group Lasso
The sparse group lasso is also known as a special case of group lasso that place an additional penalty 1
norm of the coefficient vector. The sparse group lasso allows the overlaps in the groups. The sparse set
of group is generated by group lasso. The models in the group if included then all the variables in the
group become non zero. Sometimes we like to have both the sparsity of group and within each group,
i.e. between and within the group. Such as example, in genes expression we like to identify particular
useful genes among the number of genes, this is the focus of sparse group lasso. The sparsity in sparse
group lasso is exists in two types, first is group wise sparsity and the other is within group sparsity.
The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The sparse group lasso can solve the problem with un penalized covariates.
V. CONCLUSION. Feature selection is a step that finds the subset from the original feature set to
some criteria of instance importance. In this paper the concept of group feature selection is review that
specifies different approaches in this ground. This literature review examines the recent work of
feature selection where feature posses certain group structure. The methods found for group feature
selection have discussed here. The general approaches of group feature selection such as group lasso
and sparse group lasso are described. The group lasso is an extension of Standard lasso which tend to
perform group selection, if the group of features is selected then all the features in the groups are
selected. Sparse group lasso takes the advantage of group lasso and produces an efficient solution with
simultaneous between and within group. The group feature selection tries to minimize the redundant
and irrelevant features from the group to decreases the computational time. The above dimensional
categorization of group feature selection algorithm give a view of future challenges and research

Episode The One With The Butt
Friends is a TV show follows a gang of six twenty something year olds (Chandler, Monica, Rachel,
Ross, Joey, and Phoebe) living in 1990s Manhattan. In the episode The One with the Butt , it starts off
with crew settling in as they prepare to watch Joey in his new play, Freud!, which is a musical about
Sigmund Freud. In this episode, Chandler briefly dates a woman in a very open relationship, Joey is
hired and fired as the butt double in the new Al Pacino movie, and Monica deals with her obsessive
need for organization. I believe that the disorder that is being portrayed in Monica is Obsessive
Compulsive Disorder (OCD). This anxiety disorder, has a wide spectrum of intensity. It is persistent,
recurring, involuntary thoughts, images, or impulses that invade the consciousness. Some
characteristics of people with this disorder compulsively are checking, counting, cleaning, organizing,
and hoarding (packrats being a lesser version). Monica displays in this episode a chronic need for
organization. I believe that this show accurately portrays Monica s problem and that this episode is a
prime example of her problem. She has these involuntary recurring thoughts that invade her
consciousness regarding organization. Monica wants things to be organized her way and will do

Mortgage Vs Reverse Mortgage
You can use a reverse mortgage as a retirement tool. Which is better, a home equity line of credit or
reverse mortgage?
With a line of credit, you borrow money and begin paying it back (with interest) immediately. This
makes sense if your needs are short term and you have the income to pay it back quickly. But what if
you need the money for a longer period of time? Then you have to be prepared to make regular
monthly payments for some time to come. If you re like many Canadians living on a fixed income,
these extra monthly payments could be too much for your budget to handle over an extended period of
time.
A reverse mortgage is different because you can choose not to make any payments until you decide to
move or sell your home. Instead, the interest simply compounds on the outstanding balance of the
reverse mortgage while the entire value of your home also continues to appreciate. When you sell your
house, you pay off the accumulated amount of the loan and keep the rest. ... Show more content on

Reverse mortgages are an excellent way to supplement your income on an ongoing basis. You can
choose to access a fixed amount each month. Or you can take out a lump sum and use it to build an
investment portfolio that will generate extra cash flow.
A reverse mortgage will take either your mortgage free house or even a house with a small mortgage
and will pay you a tax free lump sum or an income for the rest of your life or even a combination of
both.

Jack s Leadership In Lord Of The Flies
One of the main conflicts in William Golding s Lord of the Flies is the power struggle between Ralph
s egalitarianism and Jack s authoritarianism. By the end of the story, their power struggle ends with
Jack leading all the other boys on the island against Ralph, who has no allies or followers left. Due to
this conclusion, it is evident that there were several shortcomings in the effectiveness of Ralph s
leadership, and many strengths in Jack s. I believe that in William Golding s Lord of the Flies, Jack
repeatedly proved that he was a far more effective leader than Ralph. He was able to convince all the
boys to join his tribe, and he came to have more power over them than Ralph ever did. This was due to
Jack s superior ability to understand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ralph believes he is the leader simply because he is chosen, but he fails in earning the boys respect
and making them fear him because he does not exercise his authority over them. Conversely, Jack
understands that in order to maintain control over the boys, he must manipulate their fear of the beast
and use it to benefit him. When being asked why people are needed to defend the gate against people
that want to sneak in, he replies, They will. They ll try to spoil things we do. So the watchers at the
gate must be careful. And then (177). When Jack realizes that his reasoning is weak, he goes straight
to using the beast as a way to justify his decision to the boys: and then; the beast might try to come in.
You remember how he crawled (177). In this scene we see the control that the boys fear of the beast
has over their decision making and behaviour in the way their reaction is described: The semicircle
shuddered and muttered in agreement (177). Aside from their fear of the beast, Jack also develops an
image of himself that is to be feared, and this is another one of the main tools that he uses to maintain
his authoritative position. In Chapter 10, Robert tells Roger that Jack is going to beat a boy named
Wilfred. When Roger asks what for, Robert tells him: I don t know. He didn t say. He got angry and
made us tie Wilfred up. He s been... he s been tied for hours,

Zelda Fitzgerald Essay
Zelda Fitzgerald
Zelda Fitzgerald began life looking forward to what it could offer her. A popular debutante and
success at everything she had yet to try enticed her to believe that she was infallible. It was only
during her later life that she realized that life, both physically and mentally, had its breaking point.
Though many things have been blamed as the cause of her mental breakdown, there is no specific root
to her problem. Diagnosed as schizophrenic in 1930, Zelda would be condemned to spending the rest
of her life in and out of mental health facilities, the place where she would take her final breath, killed
by a fire in 1948.

Zelda and Scott communicated through letters, and it is through these letters that Zelda s mental state
can be examined. Zelda s letters ranged in emotions depending on the state of her illness, and the
length of time of her stay at Les Rives de Pragins. In the beginning she seems despondent writing,
Every day it seems to me that things are more barren and sterile and hopeless (Bryer, 80).[2] Towards
the middle of her treatment Zelda seems angry with Scott, blaming him for her disease, To me, it is not
astonishing that I should look on you with unfriendly eyes, you could have saved me all this trouble...

reminiscent of the letters between Zelda and Scott during their youth. In one, Zelda writes, You are a
sweet person the sweetest and dearest of all and I love you as I love my vanished youth which is as
much as a human heart can hold (Bryer, 109). Soon following this letter, after a year and three months
of treatment Zelda was discharged.

Feminism In The Crime Film Genre Essay
Feminism In The Crime Film Genre
Throughout motion picture history, women have experienced more transition in their roles, as a result
of changing societal norms, than any other class. At first, both society and the movie industry
preached that women should be dependent on men and remain in the home, in order to guarantee
stability in the community and the family. As time passed and attitudes changed, women were
beginning to be depicted as strong willed, independent minded characters, who were eager to break
away from convention. The genre of the crime film represents such a change in the roles handed to
women. Two films that can be contrasted, in order to support this view, are: The Public Enemy by

Women were now being portrayed as powerful, unpredictable, and possessing a mysterious sexual
power, which they used to elude male control. The 1960 s also brought with it his tensions that
resulted the escalating war in Vietnam, the assassination of John F. Kennedy, black ghettos going up in
flames, the women s liberation movement, the youth anti war rebellion and free love theme, and the
Civil Rights movement. It was safe to say that the American public had violence on its mind and the
movie industry capitalized on the public s apprehensions.
Director Arthur Penn used Bonnie Clyde as his medium to imprint the rebellious tone of the 1960 s
and the uncertainty of the dominant values and norms of society. When we re first introduced to the
character of Bonnie Parker (played by Faye Dunaway), the camera focuses on her as she is admiring
her naked body in the mirror. She then falls back on her bed and the camera views her from the

combat any side effects caused by the other medications. Patients who exhibit a higher rate of
serotonin 5 HT binding prior to starting medication had a higher chance of recurring episodes, even
while taking medication, than did those who had a lower rate of serotonin 5 HT binding prior to

Structural Weakness And The Hull Of The Titanic
Structural Weakness in the Hull of the Titanic
Abstract
This document will explore the structural weakness in the hull of the RMS Titanic. I will also explore
the background information and different types of modern day steels compared to that of the hull of
the RMS Titanic. After research, I will report these events and my findings in formal report format.
All the information I find about the weaknesses of the hull will be reported using information from a
number of sources. They will be referenced using the Harvard referencing system in the document.
They will be used and referenced from in chronological order in the typical report style format. The
references will be listed in alphabetical order at the end of this report document. This document will
be laid out using headers to divide up the different sections that I will explore and report on. All the
sections will be explored and described to cover the information required to report upon the topic of
this account. The main sections I will explore will be an Introduction and about the RMS Titanic s
maiden voyage, an analysis of the materials used in the construction of the RMS Titanic, the effects
that temperature has on the materials especially metals, the different compositions of the steels and
how that effects the material s properties and I will also be comparing the steels used in the
construction of the RMS Titanic s hull with the steel used to construct lock gates and the modern
equivalent structural steel

Character Analysis Of Torvald In The Ibsen
Torvald and Nora Helmer s marriage was a very deceptive one. Torvald treated Nora as if she were a
child or favorite puppy according to a review by David Galens and Lynn Spampinato. Nora does
everything Torvald says and is always on her best behavior for him. She is, at the start of the play,
entirely dependent on Torvald. Nora lies and hides her truths from Torvald. She lies about the
macaroons, her jobs, and her sources of income after taking out a loan in her father s name. Nora is a
very strong and independent lady who does not actually need Torvald for anything, but she deceives
herself into thinking so until the end of the play (Galens and Spampinato).

Torvald s treatment however did Nora no justice, in fact, it is implied at the end of the play that their
marriage and her treatment was more fitting of an arranged marriage: ...I was simply transferred from
papa s hands into yours. You arranged everything according to your own taste...You and papa have
committed a great sin against me (Ibsen 1531). The reason is it such a sin indeed is because not only
does she act this way herself, but she treats her own children similarly.
Nora has fooled herself into believing that everything she does is aimed towards being the best wife to
Torvald. She is only concerned with being the perfect wife according to a review by David M. Galens
and Lynn M. Spampinato. However, what makes Nora s behavior even more disturbing is that she is
aware of what tricks are necessary to get what she wants which is demonstrated in the opening scene
of the play discussed above. The money she hustles from Torvald is used for her to shop and to help
pay back the loan she took out several years back.
Seven years prior, while on a trip to Italy, Tovald became gravely ill and was not expected to survive.
Nora, out of love for her husband, went to a money lender named Krogstad and borrowed 250 pounds
to stay in Italy long enough to save

Persuasive Essay About Horse Slaughter
Would you kill your best friend after years of hard work together? I believe horse slaughter is a
necessary evil due to many different reasons. The first reason is due to horses that cannot be used
anymore due to health reasons. It would be wonderful to be able to afford a lame horse to sit on
pasture all day, but that is not always an option. Nobody is going to buy a lame horse when they can
buy a perfectly able horse for the same price. Where does a lame horse go? He goes to the auction and
a kill buyer buys him. He gets sent across the US border into Canada or Mexico to be slaughtered. He
has to suffer through the long trailer ride in horrendous conditions to the slaughter plant. Then, he
arrives at the slaughter plant. They open the trailer doors and he gets trampled by other horses trying
to get off. Now, he is injured and limps out of the trailer. All the horses are scared and they are
rounded into a pen. They are in the pen and get a chained ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I own one and take care of her every day, but I also understand what goes on behind the scenes. I

it is better than living its life unloved. My horse was an abuse case. She was born as a colorless paint
which means that she was supposed to be born with two or more colors but she was born with only
one color. Her breeder was upset and did not take care of her. She was finally rescued four years later
due to being severely malnourished and beaten. I found her six years later and she was still
malnourished. Now, she suffers with everyday joint issues and pain because of what she went through.
I almost wish they would have sent her off to slaughter for she would not have had to suffer. Horse
slaughter NEEDS to happen. There are too many horses on the earth, and not enough resources to feed
them. They are considered livestock, so I do not see any reason for them not to be

Persuasive Essay On Child Circumcision
Imagine you are in hospital room somewhere in Malaysia. A young girl timidly toddles in with her
mother, and is soon restrained by her mother and a medical attendant while her genitals are cut against
her will. This will ensure that her body is cleaner, her mother has been conditioned to think. It will
also make her daughter s genitals look more aesthetically pleasing. After the procedure has been
completed, the girl lay there suffering in pain, and the doctor proudly announces to her mother,
Congratulations! Her circumcision is finished! As appalling as it is to imagine this scenario, thousands
of American newborns go through this trauma every day; simply change the gender from girl to boy.
Routine infant circumcision (RIC) is described as the nonreligious elective removal of the prepuce of
the penis in the days following birth, [and] is the most common surgery performed in the United
States. (Mitchell and Beal)
Although circumcision is thought to be one of the oldest procedures in the world, the manner in which
American doctors perform it is relatively new. Unbeknownst to most modern day Americans,
circumcision wasn t widely practiced in the country until about 1910. As a matter of fact, none of our
founding fathers, including Thomas Jefferson and George Washington, were circumcised! Americans
tend to be dumbfounded when they learn that about 80 percent of the world s population do not
practice circumcision, nor have they ever done so. (Wallerstein) We are, in

The Farmers Revolt Essay
DBQ 13: The Farmer s Revolt
Farmers were once known for being able to do everything themselves. They grew their own food and
sewed their own clothes. People often yearn for the old days and complain about so many people
living in cities. Many farmers had to give up their farms and move to the cities, because of something
that happened in the late nineteenth century.
High prices forced farmers to concentrate on one crop. The large scale farmers bought expensive
machines, increasing their crop yield. This caused the smaller farmers to be left behind. The small
farmers could no longer compete and were forced give up their farms and look for jobs in the cities.
The smaller farmers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1890 clergyman Washington Gladden wrote an article called The Embattled Farmers . In it he
blamed the ruin of the farmers on protective tariffs, trusts...speculation in farm products, over greedy

James Laurence Laughlin wrote an article Causes of Agricultural Unrest that was published in the
Atlantic Monthly. He wrote, the farmers, in all honesty, have attributed their misfortunes to the
constriction in prices , caused by lack of gold, not overproduction of their crops. He then went on to
explain how that could not be possible, and we simply have produced too much wheat. Poet Vachel
Lindsay wrote a poem concerning the subject, entitled, BRYAN, BRYAN, BRYAN, BRYAN: The
campaign of 1896 as viewed at the Time by a Sixteen Year Old, etc. In it he mentioned the Election at
midnight; Boy Bryan s defeat which was when the Populists lost the election. He then wrote Defeat of
the wheat; victory of the letterfiles and Defeat...[of] the blue bells of the Rockies, and the blue bonnets
of Texas, by the Pittsburgh alleys He was simply saying that the city people had defeated them and
would therefore get their way.
As the amount of crops produced increased, the prices paid for them decreased. This is shown by the
graphs, Production and Prices, 1860 1895 In 1860, only 1000 million bushels of corn was produced,
and the price per bushel was about $.65. By 1895 over 2500 million bushels

Evaluate Social Identity Theory

Critically evaluate Social Identity Theory.
Who are you? Who am I? These are questions that we all ponder at some point or another in our lives.
As human beings we are seemingly inundated with the desire to classify and categorise. We are
constantly defining and analysing the differences that we observe in the world, it seems only natural
that we would apply this method of classification to our position within our society. More specifically,
we want to understand our social identities and this can be achieved by acknowledging which groups
we identify most with.
Tajfel and Turner (1986) define this phenomenon of classification within a social context as ... Show

Human beings tend to see the group that they associate with in a more favourable light than the groups
that they do not associate with. This is known as in group favouritism (Turner and Tajfel, 1986) One
explanation as to why this is done is that we boost our self esteem by viewing the group we belong to
in a more favourable light than the group with which we have no affiliation. This seems quite logical
in that we feel a sense of pride when our group seems somewhat better or superior to other groups.
One could argue that this then inflates our sense of belonging in the world if we feel that there are
others who share similar values to us. This then strengthens our resolve by essentially confirming that
we are engaging in the right behaviours and holding the right ideals as we associate ourselves with
others who feel the same as we do. This then leads them to strengthen our tenacity of in group
favouritism by rewarding our prejudiced behaviours. A positive outcome of this is that it can have a
flow on effect to our altruistic nature as human beings and we would be more likely to help those with
whom we feel a certain affiliation. It is in this regard that the Social Identity Theory can yield positive
results through a framework of philanthropic behaviour and support for in group members. The
converse of this behaviour is that we see an increase in negative behaviours towards those with whom
we feel have conflicting goals and essentially belong to an out group .

these local cities, plus thousands/millions more around the world, refusing on doing an ecological act

the people doing it around the world, it adds up to an enormous number. A lot of those people doing
all those filthy acts often believe that global warming is fake and that if they don t dispose an item

One of the goals is to increase the prevention behaviors in persons at high risk for diabetes with pre

physical activity levels, decreasing the fat and calories in the patient s diet, and trying to increase the
proportion of patient s trying to lose weight. ( Healthy people 2020, n.d. , Diabetes D 16) As the nurse

Montresor Capital Punishment
In the short story The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allen Poe, Montresor murderers Fortunato by
leading him into the catacombs after getting him drunk one night. Montresor takes Fortunato down
into a small room, chains him up, then builds a wall where he suffocates. Although Montresor
murdered Fortunato, Montresor should not be sentenced to death. Capital punishment is the penalty of
being put to death after committing a crime. In this way, capital punishment can be incredibly cruel to
the criminal. In the article Capital Punishment in the United States by Robert W. Taylor, Professor of
Criminology and Public Affairs, adds, Many people oppose the death penalty because they believe it is
cruel. Just like others who commit crimes, Montresor would have to face death penalty. In the other
article, 5 Arguments For And Against The Death Penalty by FlameHorse, agrees that capital

The Idea Of Mass Customisation
The Idea of Mass Customisation Over the last 25 years, it has become harder to satisfy customer
demand from inventory and thus making the cost of keeping inventory more expensive. This becomes
a problem as new products cannot be produced until the old products have been sold, usually at huge
discounts (Anderson, 2014). Therefore, many companies are forced to customize products, to some
degree, for increasingly selective customers or to compete in niche markets (Anderson, 2014).
However, introducing these customized products into a mass production manufacturing approach is
complex and creates high costs of variety. Cost of variety defined by McGraw Hill, 1997, includes the

al., 2001). Mass customisation refers to the ability to provide customized products or services through
flexible processes in high volumes (Silvera et.al., 2001) and at a cost near that of mass produced items
(Hart, 1995, Kay, 1993, Kotha, 1995, Ross, 1996, Joneja and Lee, 1998). Mass customization also
implies that the same large number of customers can be reached as in mass markets of the industrial
economy and simultaneously they can be treated individually as in the customised markets of
preindustrial economies. (Davis 1987:169) However, the implementation of mass customisation into
the current systems leads to the existence of two main challenges of time and cost (Eastwood, 1996),
which can be overcome by the following success factors. Customer demand for variety and
customization must exist (Silvera et. al., 2001). The demand for variety and customization will
determine how much customers are willing to pay and wait for delivery of most customized products
(Kotha, 1996, Hart, 1996). Since customization means the customer may gain an increment of a utility
from a product that better fits to his or her needs than the best standard product available (Chamberlin,
1962), there is an increased willingness of customers paying more for the customized product. Pine
(1993) has stated that customization increases customer satisfaction thus

THE CONTEXT OF TALENT MANAGEMENT
As South Africa embarks on it s journey into the second decade of democracy, few can argue that

This manifests itself at 2 levels. Firstly, firms soon reach a state of overload. Deadlines are missed,
standards and quality of work drop and a vicious cycle emerges and feeds on itself. This is a very
common phenomenon with small and medium sized professional firms. They do not have the capacity
to manage their growth or the peaks and valleys associated with the modern business world. Secondly,
the firm is so consumed with meeting operational deadlines that it loses it s ability to keep up to date
with latest best practice, legislation or other issues demanding new skills. In this case clients will soon
recognise that mistakes are made due to lack of currency of skills. These are some of the more visible
risks to firms who do not pay attention to the attraction, growth and retention of key talent. Beyond
the visible, other manifestations of the problem arise. Staff morale declines because leadership talent
is absent and this energy drop is transferred to the client. Internal politics and protection of territory or
unwillingness to share information and surface problems affect the functioning of the firm. All of
these things affect the ability of the organisation to offer great service and take advantage of
opportunities to grow.

How Is Technology Used In The Industrial Revolution
Technology, arguably one of the greatest aspects of the industrial revolution, can be simplified into a
few different ideas and inventors, most inspired by one inventor, who was James Watt, creating the
steam engine. The vast demand for cotton was because it was the first product to undergo the
revolution from the cottage industry to the mechanised age. Also, the wool trade exported thirty times
as much wool than cotton. In 1764 James Hargreaves constructed spinning Jenny, The Englishman
invented the spinning jenny, and jenny was an abbreviation of the word engine, a machine that
enabled an individual to produce multiple coils of threads at the same time. By the time Hargreaves
died, there were over 20,000 spinning Jennys being used across

series and Susanna Coffey portraits both develop similar repetition works. Many artists gained
knowledge regarding to the materials when they constantly producing work using the same medium.

matter is painted. This series specifically followed with influences from Susanna Coffey s work.
Coffey s self portraits are painted from the same angle but have remarkable view and she has
fascinating brushstrokes and harmony in her work. Her composition is repetitive however, the texture

Application Of Advanced High Strength Dual Phase Essay
Introduction
Reducing the fuel consumption and as a result reducing the amount of emissions which is achieved by
car weight reduction and besides passenger safety and crashworthiness improvement via mechanical
energy absorption are the main goals of car manufactures. Application of advanced high strength dual
phase (DP) steels is being considered as one of the efficient ways to obtain the above mentioned goals
[1 3]. (DP) steels have attracted considerable attention in the automotive industry due to favorable
combination formability, work hardening, ductility and high strength to weight ratio [4]. The
mentioned features is resulted from the unit microstructure of the DP steels. DP steels despite their
name consist of three or more phases including ferrite, martensite, banite, retained austenite and
pearlite. The Matrix in DP steels is soft ferrite and the strengthening phase is martensite. In some cases
banite and retained austenite also contribute to strengthening. Ferrite enables low initial yielding stress
and martensite enables the high ultimate tensile strength (UTS). The above characteristics make the
DP steels ideal alloy systems for automotive sheet forming operations [5].
Phase fractions and their interfaces and morphology have a great influence on strength and ductility of
DP steels.[6] yield and tensile strength of DP steel can significantly improved by microstructural
refinement without losing the uniform elongation and fracture strain which will result in

The treatment plan was known for two portions seriously: the rest and the seclusion. Those who were prescribed the rest cure were confined to bed for weeks to months at a time and completely cut off from family members and friends. However, this treatment of confining patients to their beds and cutting them off from family members was mainly used for women. On the other hand, men who were prescribed the rest cure were given two options: to rest or to travel to remote areas and undertake rugged, outdoors life . Dr. Mitchell was influenced by the ideas of the 19th Century also known as The Cult of True Womanhood . According to the Cult of True Womanhood in order to be a true ... Stability of articulation. This principle is not singled out by British and American phoneticians. According to Russian scholars vowels are subdivided into: a) monophthongs (the tongue position is stable); b) diphthongs (it changes, that is the tongue moves from one position to another); c) diphthongoids (an intermediate case, when the change in the position is fairly weak). Diphthongs are defined differently by different authors. A.C. Gimson, for example, distinguishes 20 vocalic phonemes which are made of vowels and vowel glides. D. Jones defines diphthongs as unisyllabic gliding sounds in the articulation of which the organs of speech start from one position and then glide to another position. There are two vowels in English [i:, u:] that may have a diphthongal glide where they have full length, and the tendency for diphthongization is becoming gradually stronger. 2. • 4. Looking At Cultural Relativism, By John Ross Essay Looking at cultural relativism, you get a better understanding of the world. Just because something may seem weird it doesn t always mean it s wrong. When you get closer to the situation, you become aware of why a culture does a certain ritual or acts a certain way. In light of everything, you find that what they do is not weird at all but rather a way of living within that specific culture. An example of this from the readings would be the Innuit. The Innuit make their home in the isolated land of Greenland all the way to Alaska. They have a very primitive way of living and have adapted to the cold icy climate. They have a nickname that is better known universally and that would be the term eskimo. In 1577, John Ross, an explorer, came across a group of Innuit hunters. The Innuit were very fascinated with Ross s ship and they strangely dressed people on the ship. But what they found to be most shocking was the amount of wood that made up the ship and the furniture on the ship. The hunters thought that is was ridiculous or weird that the strange men have that much wood. The hunters that Ross had came across was from Greenland, a place that had little to no wood, therefore they were not used to seeing that much wood in one place. Everything they do is centered around ice, even their homes are made out of ice. So we cannot really judge them on thinking that Ross and his men were some type of aliens. • 12. Mortgage Vs Reverse Mortgage You can use a reverse mortgage as a retirement tool. Which is better, a home equity line of credit or reverse mortgage? With a line of credit, you borrow money and begin paying it back (with interest) immediately. This makes sense if your needs are short term and you have the income to pay it back quickly. But what if you need the money for a longer period of time? Then you have to be prepared to make regular monthly payments for some time to come. If you re like many Canadians living on a fixed income, these extra monthly payments could be too much for your budget to handle over an extended period of time. A reverse mortgage is different because you can choose not to make any payments until you decide to move or sell your home. Due to this conclusion, it is evident that there were several shortcomings in the effectiveness of Ralph s leadership, and many strengths in Jack s. I believe that in William Golding s Lord of the Flies, Jack repeatedly proved that he was a far more effective leader than Ralph. When being asked why people are needed to defend the gate against people that want to sneak in, he replies, They will. They ll try to spoil things we do. So the watchers at the gate must be careful. • 22. Persuasive Essay About Horse Slaughter Would you kill your best friend after years of hard work together? I believe horse slaughter is a necessary evil due to many different reasons. The first reason is due to horses that cannot be used anymore due to health reasons. These are questions that we all ponder at some point or another in our lives. As human beings we are seemingly inundated with the desire to classify and categorise. We are constantly defining and analysing the differences that we observe in the world, it seems only natural that we would apply this method of classification to our position within our society. More specifically, we want to understand our social identities and this can be achieved by acknowledging which groups we identify most with. Human beings tend to see the group that they associate with in a more favourable light than the groups that they do not associate with. This is known as in group favouritism (Turner and Tajfel, 1986) One explanation as to why this is done is that we boost our self esteem by viewing the group we belong to in a more favourable light than the group with which we have no affiliation. This seems quite logical in that we feel a sense of pride when our group seems somewhat better or superior to other groups. One could argue that this then inflates our sense of belonging in the world if we feel that there are others who share similar values to us. This then strengthens our resolve by essentially confirming that we are engaging in the right behaviours and holding the right ideals as we associate ourselves with others who feel the same as we do. This then leads them to strengthen our tenacity of in group favouritism by rewarding our prejudiced behaviours. A positive outcome of this is that it can have a flow on effect to our altruistic nature as human beings and we would be more likely to help those with whom we feel a certain affiliation. It is in this regard that the Social Identity Theory can yield positive results through a framework of philanthropic behaviour and support for in group members. The Idea Of Mass Customisation The Idea of Mass Customisation Over the last 25 years, it has become harder to satisfy customer demand from inventory and thus making the cost of keeping inventory more expensive. This becomes a problem as new products cannot be produced until the old products have been sold, usually at huge discounts (Anderson, 2014). Therefore, many companies are forced to customize products, to some degree, for increasingly selective customers or to compete in niche markets (Anderson, 2014). Mass customization also implies that the same large number of customers can be reached as in mass markets of the industrial economy and simultaneously they can be treated individually as in the customised markets of preindustrial economies. (Davis 1987:169) However, the implementation of mass customisation into the current systems leads to the existence of two main challenges of time and cost (Eastwood, 1996), which can be overcome by the following success factors. Customer demand for variety and customization must exist (Silvera et. al., 2001). The demand for variety and customization will determine how much customers are willing to pay and wait for delivery of most customized products (Kotha, 1996, Hart, 1996). Since customization means the customer may gain an increment of a utility from a product that better fits to his or her needs than the best standard product available (Chamberlin, 1962), there is an increased willingness of customers paying more for the customized product. Secondly, the firm is so consumed with meeting operational deadlines that it loses it s ability to keep up to date with latest best practice, legislation or other issues demanding new skills. In this case clients will soon recognise that mistakes are made due to lack of currency of skills. These are some of the more visible risks to firms who do not pay attention to the attraction, growth and retention of key talent. Beyond the visible, other manifestations of the problem arise. Staff morale declines because leadership talent is absent and this energy drop is transferred to the client. The Matrix in DP steels is soft ferrite and the strengthening phase is martensite. In some cases banite and retained austenite also contribute to strengthening. Ferrite enables low initial yielding stress and martensite enables the high ultimate tensile strength (UTS). The above characteristics make the DP steels ideal alloy systems for automotive sheet forming operations [5]. Phase fractions and their interfaces and morphology have a great influence on strength and ductility of DP steels.[6] yield and tensile strength of DP steel can significantly improved by microstructural refinement without losing the uniform elongation and fracture strain which will result in ...
