The Cheesecake Factory Essay
The name says it all, Cheesecake Factory. Who would not want to go somewhere where the main
product is cheesecake? When you think of a factory, you think of a large room filled with lots of
equipment and employees all with very specific duties. The Cheesecake factory is no different. The
restaurant is set up to run just like a factory using classical approaches of organization. The
Cheesecake factory is a very successful business, constantly growing. Everything about it is large,
from the portions to the amount of employees working for them. The reason for their success is due to
their high expectations of workers, their managerial set up to ensure customer satisfaction, and their
ability to combine several aspects of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
General managers, who run all aspects of a restaurant, receive a new BMW their first day on the job.
Salaries for general managers can be in the six figure range, according to Wensing from
$150,000 to $200,000, by some accounts (Ruiz 2006). This sounds like the perfect place to work but
there is always room for improvement to make sure that the employees are able to keep an open flow
of communication not only with each other but with other franchises and corporate. This way, if there
are any concerns within a particular field that can t be settled by management alone, they can be
addressed by cooperate. After all, it was the vice president of performance and development, Chuck
Wensing that said, One of our biggest challenges is the notion of how to get big, but remain small
(Ruiz 2006).
My recommendation for this would be to hold quarterly and annual events that allow the executives to
mingle with the employees so that they may hear their thoughts and opinions in person. It would allow
for idea sharing between franchises and offer more training that can lead to higher pay or recognition.
This would also help to bolster employee morale and overall performance.
Another thing the Cheesecake factory does that works well is create a simple managerial set up that
follows the principles of organizational structure. There is unity of command among the employees,
meaning that employees receive orders

The purpose of this research paper is to compare and contrast two smaller sub communities that are
encompassed by the larger community of Santa Maria, California. This paper will promote the beliefs
and theories of modern Social Workers, and address the resources and needs of the two communities

The Orcutt area of Santa Maria is located on the southern end of Santa Maria. It is surrounded by

Brief history of communities. In 1901, William Orcutt leased over 70,000 acres within a year for oil
exploration. After a short period time, Santa Maria was the leader in California for oil production.
Santa Maria incorporated as a general law city in 1905 (Bell 2012).The Santa Maria Valley throughout
its history has remained primarily oil production, and agricultural in its nature and economy. Both of
the focal systems developed in direct collaboration with the city of Santa Maria. The North Park area
of Santa Maria developed in support of the agricultural business, and in turn, the Orcutt area was

Domestic Financial Stability And The Sovereign Bank Nexus
What about domestic financial stability and the sovereign bank nexus?
Furthermore, the pickup in sovereign bonds demand by domestic banks when foreign investor demand
decreases does act as a stabilizing pillar for sovereigns. Overall reliance on domestic banks for
funding might be characterized as a low run risk, however, it could turn into a high one if there is an
accompanying increase in bank sovereign nexus that could transfer into higher funding costs for
sovereigns and larger refinancing risk. This is exactly what was observed in the GIIPS countries of
Europe during the sovereign debt crisis. Sovereigns should therefore assess the motivations of such
domestic banks for increasing their holdings of their own sovereign bonds in order to assess the risk of
those banks as an investor base.
For instance, the share of sovereign debt held by banks in the Eurozone, in particular, has been more
than twice in 2013 compared to that of 2007. (Becker and Ivashina (2014a)) Such an observation is
evident despite the fact that European banks incurred substantial mark to market losses in 2009 on
their peripheral sovereign holdings (Greece, Italy, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, or so called GIIPS ) and
that in 2011 alone, banks on average lost 40 percent of their market value in an effort to increase
regulatory capital ratios. (Acharya and Steffen (2014)) At the same time, banks sovereign debt
portfolios have exhibited increased home bias. (Battistini et al. (2014); Acharya and Steffen

Importance Of College Tuition
College Tuition: Why is it so high?
After high school, people either go right into college or find a job and decide whether or not college is
the right choice for them. The choice would be a lot simpler if college tuition wasn t so high. Nobody
wants student loan debts following them for the rest of their lives. Lowering or even making college
tuition free, will encourage more people to get an education and become successful. People shouldn t
have to pay thousands of dollars, in order to try and better themselves with higher education. The price
of textbooks are ridiculous as well. Colleges need to offer free online textbooks to their students There
are many things that can be done to achieve free college tuition, for example, unnecessary expenses
college programs have to offer, such as athletic programs. Our governments high budgeted military
fund can also be cut and the money can be used for making college tuition free or even less expensive.
Many countries already provide tuition free colleges to their students. So why is college tuition so
expensive?
College tuition has been increasing its price over the years. Supposedly, the reason for higher tuition,
is inflation. According to an article on USA today, under the College section, In the past 12 months,
the rate of inflation stood at 2.2%, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Colleges, however,
appear to be increasing their tuition rates by nearly double the inflation rate a trend that has been

It was an event that changed the course of socialism on a global scale. It was the unfortunate result of
Fidel Castro abusing his power. It was the single most important event in Cuba s history thus far. The
Cuban Revolution, which began in 1953 and ended in 1961, was led by revolutionist Fidel Castro and
the 26th of July Movement to overthrow current dictator Fulgencio Batista. After gaining control of
Cuba and setting up a communist party, Castro began a set of land reforms and nationalized all foreign
born private companies. This then led to the U.S. embargo of Cuba, and communist nations around the
world rallied at the thought of another instance of communism in Latin America. ... Show more

Fernando becomes worried when the government announced that citizens can no longer have any
holdings... Look at this. Me, a banker, hiding money underneath my home because I can t trust my
own bank... [not only are] we limited to how much money we can legally have, we can t even own
shares in corporations! (Gonzales 43) . Although the banking crisis in Cuba at the time was a threat to
many people s earnings, there is no accountability that money was hid underneath the floorboards of
many homes to prevent the wealth from being distributed. Fernando s character is a metaphor for the
working class, who were nervous that they would give up the savings that they rightfully earned
through their labor. By introducing Fernando as the voice of capitalism , the change and continuity
element of the book becomes present. It takes literary elements and archetypes and combines them
with the perspective of those living during the Cuban revolution, creating characters that insinuate
different aspects of the revolution as a whole.
The Communist Revolution of Cuba didn t just impact the working class, but rather also affected the
youth living in Cuba as well. Many children fought in the brigades to avoid capital punishment. One
such account tells the story of Jose Agustin, who wrote an autobiography of his experiences in the
brigades titled Diario de brigadista, Cuba 1961 . It was in this book that Jose talked about his daily

The Grid Model And Its Contribution To International...
Question 1
This case is review of the grid model and its contributions to international organizational
development. It talks about how Grid International design its learning process such that it combines
leadership styles with self convincing learning methodology that creates motivation to change and
organizational development. The Grid has seven leadership styles that are based on varying concern
for people and results. The Grid approach to change takes a four step organization development
process that builds a culture of mutual trust respect and candor through discussion of personal values,
norms and behaviors against soundest behaviors needed to accomplish standard of excellence set by
participants themselves. The process begins with individual development, then move to intact team
development, group to group development and organization strategic planning. Grid international
approach to organizational development is applied by many organizations around the globe.

In this phase, there is the development of group to group relationships. Team to team conflicts are
resolved and a cooperative relationship is build based on mutual trust and respect. Management and
unions shared understanding of cross functional roles and develop standard of excellence for working
together. The standards of excellence for working together is the collective agreement between
management and unions.
The concept of strategic human resource planning is seen in the final stage of Grid approach to
organizational development. In this stage where companies take full advantage of people common

Why Gays Shouldn T Serve David Horowitz
In the essay Why gays shouldn t serve by David Horowitz he states that Don t ask, Don t Tell policy is
a way of containing the destructive force of sex on a combat capability called Unit Cohesion. (354)
This controversial topic has surfaced more and more recently because Barack Obama wanted to let all
people serve in the military, regardless of their sexual orientation. More than 1,000 retired flag and
general officers have joined us in signing an open letter to President Obama and Congress, repeal of
this law would prompt many dedicated people to leave the military (James J. Lindsay). There are

that this person has your back? Would you even want someone that is gay protect you? Many question
surface on how straight men and women would count on these gay and lesbian individuals because
they aren t like them.
The second point of how life would change is in the barracks. If you knew that someone in your
barracks or platoon was gay or lesbian would you want them there? Would you just not worry about
them or would you go to a higher ranked person and asked if the gay or lesbian be removed?
Personally if I knew that a gay or lesbian person bunked next to me or above me I would have a

straight around straight people but act gay around gays. People that are gay and engage in homosexual

The Ethics Of The Accounting Profession
Ethics in all forms is concerned with the good and bad, right and wrong in a situation. (Duska) In life
you will be placed in a situation where you have to make a choice. These situations are not always
black and white, in other words they do not have a clear answer. You will not know what your reaction
would be in any given situation until you are there and have to make the decision. This is present in
both our personal and professional lives. However, if you always follow the guidelines set by God and
treat all as you wish to be treated then more than likely you will make a fair and impartial decision
when necessary. The accounting profession is based on the honesty, integrity, and word of those in this
profession. That is truly who they are in the eyes of the public and with this comes great responsibility
to all those involved. We will be evaluating two ethical systems in this paper and deciding which
would be the most appropriate for the accounting profession. The first ethical view that we will
discuss is Deontology. Deontology came from the writings of Immanuel Kant, a German philosopher.
Deontology is defined as a view that is based on what is fair over the consequences of the actions.
Deontologists believe that there are ethical guidelines that are universally applicable to all people. The
actions should be ethical even if the consequences are not favorable and should be based on rational
thought. This view is follows a line of professional

Debeers s Diamond Dilemm A Case Study
DeBeers s Diamond Dilemma: A Case Study
Introduction
The DeBeers s group of companies is a leading diamond exploration, mining, retail and trading
company that was founded in 1888. The organization has its headquarters in Luxembourg and has
mining agreements in close to 30 countries inclusive of the world s leading diamond producers such as
South Africa, Botswana, Canada and Namibia (Cadieux, 2005). The company enjoys one of the
leading market shares in the natural diamond industry with a current share of around 40%. However,
this is a noted decline from past decades where it controlled up to 80% of the world s diamond supply
by the 1990s. The decline noted in its apparent monopoly was caused by a number of factors including
the rise of new suppliers outside of its control. Additionally, negative press threatened its reputation as
it was accused of unfair monopolistic and anti competitive practices, price fixing and even dabbling in
the supply and distribution of the controversial blood diamonds.
A more significant threat for the company has been the rise of the synthetic diamond market where
essentially real diamonds are manufactured within plants and don t have to undergo millions of years
of formation underground in addition to grueling extraction processes. These diamonds possess a lot
of quality while being sold at a fraction of the prices of natural diamonds and have seen a rise in
demand and in the total diamond market share. While DeBeers has played down the

The Civilizations Of Ancient Civilization
Civilization, derived from the latin word civis meaning citizen , or simply someone who lives in a city.
However, what is the difference between a group of people who live in a town and our modern
concept of civilization. To find the answer to that question we can turn to the civilizations of ancient
times. The beginning of civilization as we know it began in the Neolithic era. This era began with a
very distinct change to the way of life, from the old way of migrating constantly to wherever the food
roams to settling down in one area and growing food to sustain oneself. Yet, the first civilizations were
more than just people who stayed in the same place, grew their own food, and relied on water and
shelter. They had something that made them standout from the people around them. Each ancient
civilization had different values and cultures that led to the diverse institutions founded by these
ancient civilizations. The first ancient civilization of the Neolithic era is that of Mesopotamia.
Mesopotamia comes from the greek words meso , in between, and potami meaning river. This refers to
the location of the region of Mesopotamia which lies between the Tigress and Euphrates Rivers. The
first urban society of Mesopotamia is Sumer. One value of Sumer and of Mesopotamia is the love of
religion and the beliefs in their gods. Religion plays a huge role in the values of the Sumerians as each
large settlement has a temple where a priestly class acts as managers. Worship held a

Assessing Microsoft s Corporate Strategy Development and...
Assessing Microsoft s Corporate Strategy Development and Governance
Introduction Microsoft has one of the most pervasive portfolios of software applications, services and
products globally, equally effective in gaining and keeping customers in the consumer, small business
and enterprise markets. The series of broad business models that comprise the company require
intensive levels of governance, risk and compliance management (Ali, Green, 2012). Microsoft
operates in over 160 different nations and needs to balance the many requirements of internal and
external stakeholders while also meeting governance and compliance requirements globally.
Balancing the three strategic priorities of governance, risk and compliance (GRC) requires intensive
levels of stakeholder ownership, participation, support in addition to the precise defining of financial
and strategic controls as well. GRC considerations are often managed at the board of director level
where it is common to find frameworks designed to balance each area of GRC performance in
conjunction with a series of analytics and metrics of performance to evaluate relative progress over
time (Frigo, Anderson, 2009).
As Microsoft is often at the center of litigation and foreign government inquiries regarding their
competitive market and pricing practices, the frameworks used within the company are
multidimensional and often used for long range GRC planning and performance management. GRC
frameworks are indispensable to boards

My Study On A Small Sample Size Of Eight School Leaders
I recognize three considerations to my study: (1) sample size, (2) subjectivity, and (3) trustworthiness
of my research that need to be acknowledged. The first consideration of my study is based on a small
sample size of eight school leaders. I ve come to recognize that my findings in this narrative study can
only be generalized by the lived experiences and told stories given by each of the selected principals
in the study. An important perspective in narrative studies is that a small sample size allows only for
researchers to provide the context and content of those participants in the study. And by capturing the
entire story as told by my selected participants, I will be in the right position to present a more holistic
grounding of their work as school leaders in pursuit of equity. Indeed, additional studies that desire to
engage this kind of research is sorely needed in order to broaden and/or augment the findings of such
a study. I believe the current value of this study is its ability to capture the nuances of leadership
practices, dispositions, and challenges that can better inform school leadership for the just rights of
others. A second consideration significant to this study is my positionality. I recognize this research
study is vulnerable to my own positionality and my experiences in educational spaces. Alcoff (1988)
argues positionality results from the influences of our experiences in our changing historical context
and how we choose to act/contribute upon

Background of Jazz
Jazz is still considered as etymology obscure as the origin and the background of the music is still

Jazz is a term which came into general use for a type of music which developed in the Southern States

During the beginning of dance boom in 1910, the early jazz was widely spread through the country. As

idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. If you were to ask a five year old

I probably would have given the same type of answer. Now that I m older, I have a better
understanding and different outlook on the word hero.
In the definition it states typically a man . Besides my father, the rest of my heroes are women. Other

Alcohol Drinking On College Campus
Alcohol drinking on college campus greatly harms health, studies, relationships and selection making
of students that are strongly affecting our society and reputation of the college life. Drinking in college
is becoming a larger problem affecting our over all society in America. Yearly a sizable amount of
high school graduates go off to college, leaving their families behind to attend college. Some may
attend school close to home or in a different section of the state or country. These college students face
bigger issues than within the classroom. They face challenges of drinking, drugs, and peer pressure.
This paper will discuss the pressures placed upon college students and some contributing factors with
the use of alcohol, and also the consequences that come along with it. Daily college students face
pressure from their piers. Primarily the most common pressure received from peers involves the use of
alcohol. Students feel pressure through their classmates to have fun during the semester, though they
are not the legal age. Students may also feel pressured by peers to follow fraternities and sororities.
Such groups typically are known for excessive binge drinking and partying. Students are also
influenced to drink to make sure they fit in with a specific cluster of individuals. It s essential to hunt

The Wiretap Act prohibits the government from intentional interception, use, or disclosure of wire and

Not to mention that as long as participants of CISPA exchange information with good intentions, they

Heart Of Darkness Women Essay
In the Joseph Conrad s novel, Heart of Darkness, Marlow, the main character, shows his opinion of
women in a well masked, descriptive manner. Although women are not given a large speaking role
,the readers still feel their presence throughout the novel. In the scene at the Central Station, the
description of the symbols in the painting, the blindfold, the torch, and the darkness, allow the readers
to see the darkness in the world and the thought that women should not be exposed to that darkness.
Marlow believe that women are too fragile to know the truth and should instead be left in their
beautiful, untouched world.
In the painting, the torch held by the women is meant to portray the potential that women have to help
the darkness that is society. We first receive a taste of his opinion when his aunt finds him a job in the
Company. Marlow states I, Charlie Marlow, set the women to work to get a job. Heavens! (60). This is
referring to the fact that Marlow had to ask for help from his aunt to find a job. This is mostly
embarrassing to Marlow considering he believes women are incapable of anything. He fails to realize
the true potential that women have within them. Another ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The blindfold represents their society and the idea that women should be held back from the ugliness
of the world. The blindfold is the barrier protecting the innocent, untouched world of women and the
horrors of the real world. The biggest example of this is after the death of Kurtz when he is asked
about his last words he says The last words he pronounced was your name (154). Although in the
beginning of the novel, Marlow states ...I hate, detest, and can t bear a lie... (85), he lies to Kurtz s
fiancee about Kurtz s last words. We can see him now acting like the blindfold for the young woman.
He is the barrier between her sweet and innocent mind and the horror and darkness that Kurtz carried

Essay On Hate Crimes
The Stakeholders The Hate Crime Opponents The societal problem of hate crimes has many
stakeholders not only opposing hate crimes but also supporting them. Of the many stakeholders
opposing hate crimes, specifically those relating to a race bias, Black Lives Matter is the most
prominent one in the media. Black Lives Matter, which was founded on July 13, 2013, is an activist
community that strives to end the world of anti Blackness, where every Black person has the social,
economic, and political power to thrive (What We Believe). The Black Lives Matter movement has
recently been geared toward police brutality. Black Lives Matter believes that police intentionally treat
blacks differently and see them more as a threat than other races. They believe that the police inflict
violent behavior on blacks because of their skin color. The Black Lives Matter website says, We are
guided by the fact that all Black lives matter, regardless of actual or perceived sexual identity, gender
identity, gender expression, economic status, ability, disability, religious beliefs or disbeliefs,
immigration status, or location (What We Believe). A prominent stakeholder that opposes hate crimes
relating to a religion bias is Alliance Defending Freedom. Alliance Defending Freedom is a Christian
organization that fights to defend the religious freedoms guaranteed by the United States Constitution.

Analysis of Tone in Chapter 25 of The Human Comedy
Chapter 25, Mr. Ara, begins with the gathering of neighborhood boys in front of Ara s market. August
Gottlieb, Ulysses, Lionel, and other youths of Ithaca have just taken part in the theft of an apricot from
Old Henderson s tree. Standing in front of the store, the boys revere the apricot as an item of
sacrament. August, the boy who physically plucks it, is held in high regard for his bravery and
efficiency. Although the apricot is hard and green and far from ripe, it has a deeper meaning to the
young boys of the small town. The fruit is an item obtained in spite of the possible danger of getting
caught by Henderson; it is considered an extremely well earned keepsake. The boys ... Show more

Ara again feels obliged to eat the leftovers, having thought about the importance of such food;
however, he is unable to finish them himself. His son still remains discontent. Later, a customer comes
into the shop asking for cookies with raisins. To his dismay, the shopkeeper does not have any. He is
still angry about his son s behavior and talks bitterly about the inability to satisfy human beings. The
grocer thinks back to the people of his home country and refers to them as inhuman and ignorant. He
emphasizes the shambles Russia is in and contrasts it to the quality of life in America.
The first part of this chapter celebrates youthful innocence in a satirical, humorous, and proud tone.
With respect, fear and admiration, the society of boys gape at Auggie s forbidden trophy, the apricot.
Auggie holds pride in the small green ball. The passage humorously correlates the theft of the apricot
to religion, calling the group of boys a religious sect, with August, who had the power to steal the fruit
with his own hand, their religious leader. The apricot is admired so much by Ulysses that he ran for
home... eager to tell someone. This scene has a rather humorous aspect about it, due to the exaggerated
importance and intense interest in this one, small, barely consequential object. Shortly thereafter, Mr.
Ara comes out of his shop. Immediately, he is described as a funny, yet melancholy type of man. He
jokes and dotes upon his toddler son in a way

A Report On The Subway Closed At 11
No one spoke English in the bookstore. But there was still an English section populated by cheap
copies of public domain classics like The Odyssey or Jane Eyre. Beyond it, the sprawling window
revealed a neon glitzed row of karaoke bars.
Excuse me, a voice said.
It was an American girl about 20 years old. Boston accent.
Do you know what time the subway closes?
The subway in Beijing closes at 11 PM. I learned this firsthand, when a thunderstorm stranded me in
the Zhonglouwan Hutong. I plodded back to my hotel as water flooded the cobblestone streets. My
shoes practically melted off my feet.
She was a nice girl. After a while, I invited her to grab a drink with me at a cafe down the road. She
was down. After all, the subway closed at 11 and it was only 9:30.
It was late summer, 2015. I was 24 years old. I had been living alone in Beijing for the past month.
The American Film Institute sent me to China through a partnership with IDG Media. I had spent the
past year battling through AFI s rigorous and rewarding first year. Frankly, I could use some time
alone.
Be careful what you wish for.
A teacher once told me, I ve been alone in my life and I ve been lonely. They re totally different

In Beijing I was mostly alone.
Then I got lonely.

Apuleius In-Depth Ekphrasis Of Diana And Actaeon
Although ekphrases are frequent in the novel, Apuleius in depth ekphrasis of Diana and Actaeon
specifically describes the physical form of statues as a work of art, which ultimately tie into Lucius s
adventure. The use of ekphrasis leads into yet another interpolated tale that is seemingly not related to
the novel. However, ekphrasis not only describes the statues in great detail but also describes how
Apuleius molds the ancient Roman tale into Lucius s story. Diana s statue was made of Parian marble
occupied the exact center point and as an utterly resplendent piece of statuary that shone bright on the
reflective marble (Met. 2.4, pp. 33 34). The description is similar to that of Isis in how this first ranked
goddess evinced especial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lucius describes Actaeon as craning forward and gawking at the deity (Met. 2.4, pp. 34). Craning and
gawking suggest that Actaeon is overly curious and depraved. The connotation of gawking suggests
that Actaeon was knowingly intruding on Diana s bath. Similarly, Lucius is very eager and curious
like when he is struck near senseless by my unbearable yearning by the witchcraft in Thessaly (Met.
2.2, pp. 22). Lucius further emphasizes how eager in witchcraft that he is to sign up as [Pamphile s]
apprentice and pay through the nose for it (Met. 2.6, pp. 25). The similar inquisitive character of
Actaeon and Lucius is used to construct a parallel between the two narratives. The purposeful story of
Diana and Actaeon provides a similar message to The Golden Ass. Actaeon and Lucius were both
overly curious and saw what they should not have seen. Actaeon gawked at Diana bathing while
Lucius saw Pamphile turn into an owl (Met. 3.21, pp. 60). Although Actaeon is turned into a stag by
Diana and then devoured by his hunting dogs, Lucius is forgiven and returns to his normal human
form to serve for Isis beliefs. The irony of Lucius describing Actaeon also shows a parallel with
Apuleius s description of Lucius throughout the novel. The notion that The Golden Ass as an
autobiography of Apuleius seems clearer in the ekphrasis of Actaeon and Diana due to the irony. Like

Native American Pipe Ceremony Essay
The Pipe Ceremony is used for many different rituals and is used throughout many different tribes.
Most of the rituals pertain to the Native American s spiritual beliefs/religion, although some are for
other purposes. The Pipe Ceremony is of great importance to the Native American culture and the
pipes used are considered to be sacred items. Every aspect of the ceremony down to the way the pipe
itself is designed hold significance for these cultures. There are different pipes for different
ceremonies. The pipes also may be called by different names throughout the different tribes. The
substance used in the pipe is dependent upon the type of ceremony for which it is being used. One
needs to understand some of the basic religious beliefs of the Native American culture in order to
understand some of the references made in a pipe ceremony with their ritual actions. Native American
spirituality was born out of what they considered their agreement with god, which they refer to as the
Great Spirit or the Creator. Native Americans believe that the Creator gave them the land; this places
great importance upon the land and all things from it or on it such as plants, animals, and other things.

These challenges demand a coherent response, forcing people to think better.
Public discussion is a key part of the deliberative arts, which teach students how to identify and
develop a plan to solve a problem. The first art is framing, in which the group identifies all potential
options for achieving a goal. The next art is democratic deliberation, where students discuss each
option and judge it in relation to the group s goal. The next is working together for mutual goals,
wherein each member has to resist the urge to solve the problem on their own. Students must also
learn how to work together over an extended time, and how to evaluate their own goals, actions, and
results (Fleming 43 44).
A high school business teacher in Howard, South Carolina used these practices together to show his
students how to affect change. He obtained a grant from a local university to study the community s
cash flow. He took the problem to his students, who then conducted meetings with local business
owners, consulted with county auditor, and surveyed community members. From the data they found
that people were spending money in larger cities some distance away. The class published the results,
and local residents read the study and responded by buying more locally. Annual taxes exceeded
projections, and the auditor estimated that taxes infused six to seven million dollars into the local
economy. This project

Buddhism traveled from India through the Silk Road and Central Asia to northern China in the first

The conflict between these values continued through many ruling Chinese dynasties. There were

Normative Gender Roles
Formally began by André Breton and influenced by Freud s vision of repressed, sexual desire, and
hallucinating conscious, gender and sexuality served as a basis of analysis and questioning for the
Surrealist artists. They believed that the women were the way to reach into subconscious of the male
mind and so femininity became the central focus of Surrealism. With the focus on femininity, the
sexuality and gender roles were explored and challenged by several female Surrealist artists such as
Claude Cahun in a way that they rejected some of the conventional perception of femininity. At the
same time, some other Surrealist artists such as Man Ray and Hans Bellmer reaffirmed the normative

This is evident in one of Man Ray s photographs, Érotique voilée (1933). In this work, Man Ray
exhibited a nude female covered with ink, pressing against a printers wheel in a very erotic manner.
She was positioned in a very center of the photograph and was displayed with the wheel in which it
gave a sense of sexual objectification of female in a way that she was treated as a part of the
machinery, not as a separate individual. Similarly, his other work, Le Violon d Ingres (1924), features
a nude woman with f holes added in her back in which it gives the impression of her being the body of
a violin, something to be played that she is nothing more than a muse or sexual object that can be

sexualized, distorted and dismantled sculpture of female body. The sexuality of female was used by
Bellmer to represent the unconscious sexual fantasies of male through toy like associations where it let
the female body to be easily controlled by the male owner. In both Man Ray and Hans Bellmer work,
the female body was interpreted as a sexualized object of erotic pleasure designed for male in which
they reinforced the gender stereotypes of women by depicting them as inferior to

Realism And The Struggles Of Women
Realism and the Struggles of Women
Realism and Naturalism are literary movements that appeared across America in the late 19th and
early 20th centuries. The two are sometimes used interchangeably, sometimes used as opposites
(Baym and Levine 902). Realism and Naturalism emerged in numerous aspects of life, but are most
evident in literature. The purpose of realism is to demonstrate idealistic views of life in favor of
detailed, accurate descriptions of the everyday (Baym and Levine 902). On the other hand, naturalism
focuses on a more romantic, view of human life than realism (Baym and Levine 902). Authors that
concentrated on realism include Kate Chopin and Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Within their stories, it
becomes clear on which issues they are bringing to life. Chopin and Gilman discuss the harsh reality
of women during their time in, The Story of an Hour and The Yellow Wall paper. Alternatively, these
authors were byproducts for women s rights, as well as realism.
Since the dawn of mankind, women are traditionally recognized as the less dominant sex. History has
shown that women are against this notion and have been seen fighting for equal rights and freedom.
Since the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment, also known as the 19th Amendment, women
have proven themselves to be just as capable as men. But before there was a push on equal rights for
women, authors of the late 19th and early 20th centuries had no representation. Authors such as Kate

The speed, extent and tenacity of Cistercian expansion was by all accounts extraordinary, and one that
seemed to differ greatly from the other monastic movements of the twelfth century. Their growth from
one to seven foundations, to more than three hundred in the space of fifty years was almost entirely
unexpected by contemporary standards. However, when one delves into the history of the order and
looks at the factors that differentiated it from other similar monastic institutions of the same period
one begins to see a number of portentous factors that undoubtedly contributed to such explosive
growth.
Perhaps one reason for Cistercian expansion was the Social Catholicity of it s appeal. This was

Benedict, and in this emphasis the Franciscans are seen as their spiritual heirs. The severity of their
internal discipline, the discouragement of learning, the plainness of ritual, the absence of relics, were
all calculated to discourage visitors and..gifts of benefactors and it is a description such as this, that I
feel best describes the intentions of the early Cistercians. It was the aim of the Cistercians to run
counter to the established habits and intellectual developments of western Christendom.
Another feature of the Cistercians that was certainly different to other twelfth century monastic
movements was in it s organisation and structure. In Western Society and the Church in the middle
ages, Southern comments that Cistercian organisation was one of the masterpieces of medieval
planning . He also goes on to write that the Cistercians achieved iin one stroke the kind of organisation
that every ruler would wish to have . Essentially, in structure the Cistercian model was a sigle strong
chain of authority from top to bottom. One could even comment that it was more effective than papal

Nineteenth-Century Exploration And On A Farther Shore The...
Both in the books, The Humboldt Current: Nineteenth Century Exploration and the Roots of American
Environmentalism and On a Farther Shore the Life and Legacy of Rachel Carson, the authors are
trying to prove that the individuals whom they wrote about deserve a place in the ongoing narrative of
Environmentalism. Alexander Von Humboldt and Rachel Carson showed how their subjects were led
to a life of environmentalism by their passion. Whether it was from a love of the water or a love to
explore, both of these individuals were led down a road of environmentalism. Although their
accomplishments are completely different, it does not mean that one is more significant than the other.
The fact that they had different results can easily be explained by the different times in which these
two individuals were alive and active. Humboldt s journey did not begin until 1799, which was 108
years before Carson was even born. They had different passions, which led to different results, but in
the end, they were both incredibly significant. Aaron Sachs (author of The Humboldt Current) does a
great job of describing the incredibly interesting journeys that Humboldt had. From his trip to
Venezuela to the United States, and everything in between, Sachs painted a picture of an explorer on a
mission to study new land, to discover new things, and to develop ideas about these new areas and
pass those ideas on to the rest of the world. Humboldt was more than an explorer, he was truly a
scientist.

Supernatural in Hamlet
In the time of William Shakespeare there was a strong belief in the existence of the supernatural. Thus,
the supernatural is a recurring aspect in many of Shakespeare s plays. In two such plays, Hamlet and
Macbeth, the supernatural is an integral part of the structure of the plot. It provides a catalyst for
action, an insight into character, and augments the impact of many key scenes. The supernatural
appears to the audience in many varied forms. In Hamlet, the most notable form of the supernatural
that appears is the ghost. However, in Macbeth, a ghost, a floating dagger, witches, and prophetic
apparitions make appearances. The role of the supernatural is very important in Hamlet and Macbeth.

Reflection On Business Luncheon
For this year in fall of 2017, Healthcare Law class had the first opportunity to experience a business
luncheon under the guidance and planning of Dr. Griswold. It took place on October 11, 2017 from 11
am to 12:15 pm at Student Center 170. The point of this experience is for the class to practice
networking with local healthcare leaders and learn from it. Experiencing this event should allow the
class to have better preparations for future professional events. This paper will entail my reflections on
the business luncheon mainly, the activities surrounding it, my reactions, and connections between the
event and my classes. In the beginning of the semester, the business luncheon was mentioned, and the
class was continually updated about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their tips were great tips for anybody. Afterwards, the luncheon commences within each groups. At
my table, our guest was Adebola Shoyebi. She graduated from University of Louisiana at Monroe with
a degree in Health Studies. Currently, Adebola works at Centric Federal Credit Union as a
Marketing/Community Partner Coordinator; she has background experience in other healthcare fields
such as being an administrative specialist in a hospital. She was very friendly and open allowing most
of our tensions to dissipate and relax around her. In addition, her life story was very interesting such as
being from Nigeria and was involved with track for a while. We were able to go through all the
common questions; her answers were memorable as well. We kept the conversation going throughout
the luncheon and had a great time. My overall reaction to this event was positive. At first, I was a
nervous and stressed because I have never network with a healthcare leader in a professional setting
like a business luncheon. It was also mainly due to not knowing what to expect once it happened even
though we were prepared for it. However, during the event, I felt much more at ease especially with
Adebola s happy and open personality. The atmosphere was very cozy and felt casual formal as well. I
was able to converse normally without feeling intimidated. It was not terrible as I

Totem Animal Research Paper
A totem is a spirit being, sacred object, or symbol of a tribe, clan, family or individual. Native
American tradition provides that each person is connected with nine different animals that will
accompany him or her through life, acting as guides. Different animal guides, also called spirit guides
and/or power animals, come in and out of our lives depending on the direction that we are headed and
the tasks that need to be completed along our journey. Native beliefs further explain that a totem
animal is one that is with you for life, both in the physical and spiritual world. Though people may
identify with different animal guides throughout their lifetimes, it is this one totem animal that acts as
the main guardian spirit. With this one animal, a connection is shared, either through interest in the

It s as if they ve always known, inexplicably drawn to the animal or having a special feeling for the
animal s energy. For others, they wonder how to tell what their animal totem is. Here are some
questions to ask yourself if you re wondering what your animal totem is: Have you ever felt drawn to
one animal or another without being able to explain why? This could be any type of living creature,
including birds and insects. Does a certain kind of animal consistently appear in your life? This doesn
t necessarily have to be a physical appearance, it could be represented in other ways, such as receiving
card and letters with the same animal pictured over and over, unexplainable dreams of a particular
animal, watching television and seeing the same animal featured time and time again, or, actually
having the animal show up. When you go to the zoo, a park, wildlife area, or forest, what are you most
interested in seeing? Are there any animals that you find to be extremely frightening or intriguing? Is
there a particular animal that you see frequently when you re out in

College Graduates Suffering From Excessive Financial...
Over the past decade, the total volume of outstanding student loan debt has tripled and is now over $1
trillion (Jaquette and Hillman). This alarming trend illustrates the immediate need to address the issue
of college graduates suffering from excessive financial burden as a result of student loan debt.
According to Ozan Jaquette, Ph.D., assistant professor of higher education in the Department of
Educational Policy and Practice, and Nick Hillman, Ph.D., assistant professor of Educational
Leadership Policy Analysis, When borrowers default, they face a wide range of additional penalties,
including lower credit scores, garnishing of wages and tax refunds, and the payment of collection

College enrollment skyrocketed as a direct result of the expansion of financial aid programs.
Initially, the federal government s involvement was restricted to providing financial aid to veterans
pursuing higher education. By 1965, the federal government solidified its involvement within the
realm of student financial aid by enacting the Higher Education Act. Title IV of the Act provided for a
guaranteed loan program that carried with it the full promise of the U.S. government to repay private
lenders if a student defaulted on their loan. The creation of this title lead to the creation of government
subsidies, and eventually subsidized loans (Fuller). According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, a
subsidy is defined as a grant by a government to a private person or company to assist an enterprise
deemed advantageous to the public. The greater the amount of subsides that the government pays to
lending institutions, the greater the guarantee that those lending institutions will continue to provide
financial assistance to borrowers. Private lending institutions are guaranteed to turn a profit as a result
of government subsidies, even if borrowers default on their loans. In the 2010 State of the Union
Address to Congress, Obama asked the Senate and House to work together in executing a new bill that
would revitalize community colleges. President Obama then said, To make college more affordable,

Genesis VS Plato
The story of Genesis, and the great philosopher Plato both depict a certain view on human nature.
Genesis demonstrates that humans live on in their families. While, Plato creates this idea that we are
in constant search of THE GOOD. In this paper, I will compare and contrast how these works answer
three important questions; What are human beings like? What kind of world do they live in? What is
the best life for humans to live? Finally, I will explain which one of these views better represents what
human beings are really like.
The first book of the Hebrew bible, Genesis, tells the story of how an all powerful God created the
Earth and all who inhabit it. The story is quite familiar even to those who do not belong to regions that
utilize the hebrew bible. However, the story quickly becomes unfamiliar once the story is analyzed
from a philosophical standpoint. A great example is Eve, people know her as the one who disobeyed
God and is the first to sin. But, why is Eve often interpreted as the evil one? Why is she criticized for

Personal Narrative On Escape From Reality
Escape From Reality
Is it possible to get stuck on this island? my Mom asked our tour guide with a worried tone while
disembarking a ship which took us to a peaceful, isolated, and small island in the Faroe Islands. This
tiny, microscopic island, that is even hard to spot on a globe, lies between Iceland and Norway. During
our summer vacation, we were planning to get a look at the ancient village with a population of
exactly 11 people, and most importantly, the magnificent puffins. Since this is the only place in the
world where you can get close to them, my family and I were dedicated to doing whatever it takes to
get a slight glimpse. The boat that took us here only made two trips: to take us to the island and to take
us back to the mainland. While adjusting his backpack and grabbing a tall, wooden stick so we can
spot him clearly, our tour guide, Tomas, let out a small laugh.
Oh no, Miss. It has never happened before when a group got stuck. Well, that I know of, so we should
be fine. Besides the weather looks great. said Tomas, who was a citizen of the Faroe Islands. I can tell
he had a sense of pride of his small island he called home and also sense the adventure in his eyes and
I knew I was going to have a exhilarating time with him. When we reached the top of the port, I said
Mom, to calm her down from her uneasy feeling of getting stuck. Why would they send us to an island
that is unsafe for tourists in the first place? Also, many people have been here, like Tomas said, so
what are the chances of us getting stuck? Besides, Mom weren t you the most excited for this very
moment!
My Mom let out a sigh, and I was able to see the tension slowly loosen up. It was true. This was my
Mom s childhood dream: to visit a Nordic country. Hiking up tall, magnificent mountains with a view
of a huge, stormy ocean while daydreaming about the age of the Vikings strong men with legends and
venturesome stories of their own, was something she always wanted to do.
With a rapid tug of my jacket, my younger brother Dmitry, pointed his hand up towards the sky and
exclaimed,
Look, look puffins! As I look up, he was definitely right. There was a huge swarm of them right above
us, flying in all directions like

When you think of a factory, you think of a large room filled with lots of equipment and employees all with very specific duties. The Cheesecake factory is no different. The restaurant is set up to run just like a factory using classical approaches of organization. The Cheesecake factory is a very successful business, constantly growing. Everything about it is large, from the portions to the amount of employees working for them. The reason for their success is due to their high expectations of workers, their managerial set up to ensure customer satisfaction, and their ability to combine several aspects of ... Salaries for general managers can be in the six figure range, according to Wensing from $150,000 to $200,000, by some accounts (Ruiz 2006). This sounds like the perfect place to work but there is always room for improvement to make sure that the employees are able to keep an open flow of communication not only with each other but with other franchises and corporate. This way, if there are any concerns within a particular field that can t be settled by management alone, they can be addressed by cooperate. After all, it was the vice president of performance and development, Chuck Wensing that said, One of our biggest challenges is the notion of how to get big, but remain small (Ruiz 2006). My recommendation for this would be to hold quarterly and annual events that allow the executives to mingle with the employees so that they may hear their thoughts and opinions in person. It would allow for idea sharing between franchises and offer more training that can lead to higher pay or recognition. This would also help to bolster employee morale and overall performance. Another thing the Cheesecake factory does that works well is create a simple managerial set up that follows the principles of organizational structure. There is unity of command among the employees, meaning that employees receive orders ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Domestic Financial Stability And The Sovereign Bank Nexus What about domestic financial stability and the sovereign bank nexus? Furthermore, the pickup in sovereign bonds demand by domestic banks when foreign investor demand decreases does act as a stabilizing pillar for sovereigns. Overall reliance on domestic banks for funding might be characterized as a low run risk, however, it could turn into a high one if there is an accompanying increase in bank sovereign nexus that could transfer into higher funding costs for sovereigns and larger refinancing risk. This is exactly what was observed in the GIIPS countries of Europe during the sovereign debt crisis. Sovereigns should therefore assess the motivations of such domestic banks for increasing their holdings of their own sovereign bonds in order to assess the risk of those banks as an investor base. For instance, the share of sovereign debt held by banks in the Eurozone, in particular, has been more than twice in 2013 compared to that of 2007. (Becker and Ivashina (2014a)) Such an observation is evident despite the fact that European banks incurred substantial mark to market losses in 2009 on their peripheral sovereign holdings (Greece, Italy, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, or so called GIIPS ) and that in 2011 alone, banks on average lost 40 percent of their market value in an effort to increase regulatory capital ratios. (Acharya and Steffen (2014)) At the same time, banks sovereign debt portfolios have exhibited increased home bias. (Battistini et al. (2014); Acharya and Steffen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Importance Of College Tuition College Tuition: Why is it so high? After high school, people either go right into college or find a job and decide whether or not college is the right choice for them. The choice would be a lot simpler if college tuition wasn t so high. Nobody wants student loan debts following them for the rest of their lives. Lowering or even making college tuition free, will encourage more people to get an education and become successful. People shouldn t have to pay thousands of dollars, in order to try and better themselves with higher education. The price of textbooks are ridiculous as well. Colleges need to offer free online textbooks to their students There are many things that can be done to achieve free college tuition, for example, unnecessary expenses college programs have to offer, such as athletic programs. Our governments high budgeted military fund can also be cut and the money can be used for making college tuition free or even less expensive. Many countries already provide tuition free colleges to their students. So why is college tuition so expensive? College tuition has been increasing its price over the years. Supposedly, the reason for higher tuition, is inflation. According to an article on USA today, under the College section, In the past 12 months, the rate of inflation stood at 2.2%, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Colleges, however, appear to be increasing their tuition rates by nearly double the inflation rate a trend that has been consistent for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Me, a banker, hiding money underneath my home because I can t trust my own bank... [not only are] we limited to how much money we can legally have, we can t even own shares in corporations! (Gonzales 43) . Although the banking crisis in Cuba at the time was a threat to many people s earnings, there is no accountability that money was hid underneath the floorboards of many homes to prevent the wealth from being distributed. Fernando s character is a metaphor for the working class, who were nervous that they would give up the savings that they rightfully earned through their labor. By introducing Fernando as the voice of capitalism , the change and continuity element of the book becomes present. It takes literary elements and archetypes and combines them with the perspective of those living during the Cuban revolution, creating characters that insinuate different aspects of the revolution as a whole. The Communist Revolution of Cuba didn t just impact the working class, but rather also affected the youth living in Cuba as well. Many children fought in the brigades to avoid capital punishment. • 9. The Ethics Of The Accounting Profession Ethics in all forms is concerned with the good and bad, right and wrong in a situation. (Duska) In life you will be placed in a situation where you have to make a choice. These situations are not always black and white, in other words they do not have a clear answer. You will not know what your reaction would be in any given situation until you are there and have to make the decision. This is present in both our personal and professional lives. However, if you always follow the guidelines set by God and treat all as you wish to be treated then more than likely you will make a fair and impartial decision when necessary. The accounting profession is based on the honesty, integrity, and word of those in this profession. That is truly who they are in the eyes of the public and with this comes great responsibility to all those involved. We will be evaluating two ethical systems in this paper and deciding which would be the most appropriate for the accounting profession. The first ethical view that we will discuss is Deontology. Deontology came from the writings of Immanuel Kant, a German philosopher. Deontology is defined as a view that is based on what is fair over the consequences of the actions. Deontologists believe that there are ethical guidelines that are universally applicable to all people. The actions should be ethical even if the consequences are not favorable and should be based on rational thought. This view is follows a line of professional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Debeers s Diamond Dilemm A Case Study DeBeers s Diamond Dilemma: A Case Study Introduction The DeBeers s group of companies is a leading diamond exploration, mining, retail and trading company that was founded in 1888. The organization has its headquarters in Luxembourg and has mining agreements in close to 30 countries inclusive of the world s leading diamond producers such as South Africa, Botswana, Canada and Namibia (Cadieux, 2005). The company enjoys one of the leading market shares in the natural diamond industry with a current share of around 40%. However, this is a noted decline from past decades where it controlled up to 80% of the world s diamond supply by the 1990s. The decline noted in its apparent monopoly was caused by a number of factors including the rise of new suppliers outside of its control. Additionally, negative press threatened its reputation as it was accused of unfair monopolistic and anti competitive practices, price fixing and even dabbling in the supply and distribution of the controversial blood diamonds. A more significant threat for the company has been the rise of the synthetic diamond market where essentially real diamonds are manufactured within plants and don t have to undergo millions of years of formation underground in addition to grueling extraction processes. These diamonds possess a lot of quality while being sold at a fraction of the prices of natural diamonds and have seen a rise in demand and in the total diamond market share. • 11. The Civilizations Of Ancient Civilization Civilization, derived from the latin word civis meaning citizen , or simply someone who lives in a city. However, what is the difference between a group of people who live in a town and our modern concept of civilization. To find the answer to that question we can turn to the civilizations of ancient times. The beginning of civilization as we know it began in the Neolithic era. This era began with a very distinct change to the way of life, from the old way of migrating constantly to wherever the food roams to settling down in one area and growing food to sustain oneself. Yet, the first civilizations were more than just people who stayed in the same place, grew their own food, and relied on water and shelter. They had something that made them standout from the people around them. Each ancient civilization had different values and cultures that led to the diverse institutions founded by these ancient civilizations. The first ancient civilization of the Neolithic era is that of Mesopotamia. Mesopotamia comes from the greek words meso , in between, and potami meaning river. This refers to the location of the region of Mesopotamia which lies between the Tigress and Euphrates Rivers. The first urban society of Mesopotamia is Sumer. One value of Sumer and of Mesopotamia is the love of religion and the beliefs in their gods. Religion plays a huge role in the values of the Sumerians as each large settlement has a temple where a priestly class acts as managers. Worship held a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Assessing Microsoft s Corporate Strategy Development and... Assessing Microsoft s Corporate Strategy Development and Governance Introduction Microsoft has one of the most pervasive portfolios of software applications, services and products globally, equally effective in gaining and keeping customers in the consumer, small business and enterprise markets. The series of broad business models that comprise the company require intensive levels of governance, risk and compliance management (Ali, Green, 2012). Microsoft operates in over 160 different nations and needs to balance the many requirements of internal and external stakeholders while also meeting governance and compliance requirements globally. Balancing the three strategic priorities of governance, risk and compliance (GRC) requires intensive levels of stakeholder ownership, participation, support in addition to the precise defining of financial and strategic controls as well. GRC considerations are often managed at the board of director level where it is common to find frameworks designed to balance each area of GRC performance in conjunction with a series of analytics and metrics of performance to evaluate relative progress over time (Frigo, Anderson, 2009). As Microsoft is often at the center of litigation and foreign government inquiries regarding their competitive market and pricing practices, the frameworks used within the company are multidimensional and often used for long range GRC planning and performance management. • 13. My Study On A Small Sample Size Of Eight School Leaders I recognize three considerations to my study: (1) sample size, (2) subjectivity, and (3) trustworthiness of my research that need to be acknowledged. The first consideration of my study is based on a small sample size of eight school leaders. I ve come to recognize that my findings in this narrative study can only be generalized by the lived experiences and told stories given by each of the selected principals in the study. An important perspective in narrative studies is that a small sample size allows only for researchers to provide the context and content of those participants in the study. And by capturing the entire story as told by my selected participants, I will be in the right position to present a more holistic grounding of their work as school leaders in pursuit of equity. Indeed, additional studies that desire to engage this kind of research is sorely needed in order to broaden and/or augment the findings of such a study. I believe the current value of this study is its ability to capture the nuances of leadership practices, dispositions, and challenges that can better inform school leadership for the just rights of others. A second consideration significant to this study is my positionality. I recognize this research study is vulnerable to my own positionality and my experiences in educational spaces. Lucius describes Actaeon as craning forward and gawking at the deity (Met. 2.4, pp. 34). Craning and gawking suggest that Actaeon is overly curious and depraved. The connotation of gawking suggests that Actaeon was knowingly intruding on Diana s bath. Similarly, Lucius is very eager and curious like when he is struck near senseless by my unbearable yearning by the witchcraft in Thessaly (Met. 2.2, pp. 22). Lucius further emphasizes how eager in witchcraft that he is to sign up as [Pamphile s] apprentice and pay through the nose for it (Met. 2.6, pp. 25). The similar inquisitive character of Actaeon and Lucius is used to construct a parallel between the two narratives. The purposeful story of Diana and Actaeon provides a similar message to The Golden Ass. Actaeon and Lucius were both overly curious and saw what they should not have seen. Actaeon gawked at Diana bathing while Lucius saw Pamphile turn into an owl (Met. 3.21, pp. 60). Although Actaeon is turned into a stag by Diana and then devoured by his hunting dogs, Lucius is forgiven and returns to his normal human form to serve for Isis beliefs. Taizong the Imperial ancestor who ruled during the period 626 649 C.E built the Middle Kingdom by governing his kingdom his accomplished learning and culture. He believed in the power of state but he tried to balance both Buddhism and Chinese values. Zhenguan and Gaiyuan, later instituted radical changes. The Buddhist enjoyed many privileges; they did not pay taxes and were treated differently, which was detrimental to state. These values were at variance with the Confucius values of general applicability of rules to all people within the state. Normative Gender Roles Formally began by André Breton and influenced by Freud s vision of repressed, sexual desire, and hallucinating conscious, gender and sexuality served as a basis of analysis and questioning for the Surrealist artists. They believed that the women were the way to reach into subconscious of the male mind and so femininity became the central focus of Surrealism. With the focus on femininity, the sexuality and gender roles were explored and challenged by several female Surrealist artists such as Claude Cahun in a way that they rejected some of the conventional perception of femininity. In this work, Man Ray exhibited a nude female covered with ink, pressing against a printers wheel in a very erotic manner. She was positioned in a very center of the photograph and was displayed with the wheel in which it gave a sense of sexual objectification of female in a way that she was treated as a part of the machinery, not as a separate individual. Similarly, his other work, Le Violon d Ingres (1924), features a nude woman with f holes added in her back in which it gives the impression of her being the body of a violin, something to be played that she is nothing more than a muse or sexual object that can be manipulated by male dominant. As for Hans Bellmer, he constructed life sized dolls that were violently and sexually degraded images of young girls. The doll (1936) is a photograph of Bellmer s sexualized, distorted and dismantled sculpture of female body. The sexuality of female was used by Bellmer to represent the unconscious sexual fantasies of male through toy like associations where it let the female body to be easily controlled by the male owner. • 39. Realism And The Struggles Of Women Realism and the Struggles of Women Realism and Naturalism are literary movements that appeared across America in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The two are sometimes used interchangeably, sometimes used as opposites (Baym and Levine 902). Realism and Naturalism emerged in numerous aspects of life, but are most evident in literature. The purpose of realism is to demonstrate idealistic views of life in favor of detailed, accurate descriptions of the everyday (Baym and Levine 902). On the other hand, naturalism focuses on a more romantic, view of human life than realism (Baym and Levine 902). Authors that concentrated on realism include Kate Chopin and Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Within their stories, it becomes clear on which issues they are bringing to life. Chopin and Gilman discuss the harsh reality of women during their time in, The Story of an Hour and The Yellow Wall paper. Alternatively, these authors were byproducts for women s rights, as well as realism. Since the dawn of mankind, women are traditionally recognized as the less dominant sex. History has shown that women are against this notion and have been seen fighting for equal rights and freedom. Since the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment, also known as the 19th Amendment, women have proven themselves to be just as capable as men. But before there was a push on equal rights for women, authors of the late 19th and early 20th centuries had no representation. Authors such as Kate Chopin and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, when one delves into the history of the order and looks at the factors that differentiated it from other similar monastic institutions of the same period one begins to see a number of portentous factors that undoubtedly contributed to such explosive growth. Both in the books, The Humboldt Current: Nineteenth Century Exploration and the Roots of American Environmentalism and On a Farther Shore the Life and Legacy of Rachel Carson, the authors are trying to prove that the individuals whom they wrote about deserve a place in the ongoing narrative of Environmentalism. Alexander Von Humboldt and Rachel Carson showed how their subjects were led to a life of environmentalism by their passion. Whether it was from a love of the water or a love to explore, both of these individuals were led down a road of environmentalism. Although their accomplishments are completely different, it does not mean that one is more significant than the other. The fact that they had different results can easily be explained by the different times in which these two individuals were alive and active. Humboldt s journey did not begin until 1799, which was 108 years before Carson was even born. They had different passions, which led to different results, but in the end, they were both incredibly significant. Aaron Sachs (author of The Humboldt Current) does a great job of describing the incredibly interesting journeys that Humboldt had. From his trip to Venezuela to the United States, and everything in between, Sachs painted a picture of an explorer on a mission to study new land, to discover new things, and to develop ideas about these new areas and pass those ideas on to the rest of the world. Humboldt was more than an explorer, he was truly a scientist. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Personal Narrative On Escape From Reality Escape From Reality Is it possible to get stuck on this island? my Mom asked our tour guide with a worried tone while disembarking a ship which took us to a peaceful, isolated, and small island in the Faroe Islands. This tiny, microscopic island, that is even hard to spot on a globe, lies between Iceland and Norway. Since this is the only place in the world where you can get close to them, my family and I were dedicated to doing whatever it takes to get a slight glimpse.
