t really an island that she actually went to either. Maybe she just closed herself down mentally,
unable to deal with the world with a broken heart. That could have felt to other people, as if she
was actually away on an island.
What seems to be pulling this story towards science fiction the most however, seems to be the fact
that even though it s all clearly one big metaphor for getting your heart broken and mending it
again, it s nowhere close to how reality is. Heartbreaks come in all shapes and sizes. But in real
life you can t just go well, tough luck, she wasn t the one for me, so I m not going to be sad about
it . Healing a broken heart takes time in the real, non fictional world. Just changing it like it s
nothing, that s the real science fiction in the story.
All in all, we should be glad that we don t have these kinds of rental services available. It would be
way too boring. What makes life exciting is that it s fragile; you never know

the death penalty, is the execution of an offender sentenced to death as a punishment for a crime. In
1865, crimes of murder, treason, and rape carried the death penalty in upper and lower Canada (1,

offenses. Capital murder offenses in Canada were intended murder and murder of a police officer,

In the short story Two Fishermen by Morley Callaghan, Thomas Delaney is man being sentenced to
death by hanging for murdering Matthew Rhinehart who molest his wife. If this story s setting is
based in Canada, it would most likely happen between the 1930 and 1960 s as crimes for murder
carries out with the death penalty during this time period. Throughout history, capital punishment is
an extremely debatable subject. In the 19th century, hanging is a common punishment that is used
for serious offenses such as treason or murder. There is usually sympathy for the person being
hanged but the hangman is often jeered by the crowd. To showcase the setting, the story indicates
the utilization of automobiles for example, at the end of the story the sheriff pulls [Smitty] into
the automobile (8). Also, the description of Smitty s attire by dressing in a long black cut away
coat with grey striped trousers and a gate ajar collar (7) shows the fashionable style during that
time. To add on, the author does not mention the use of technology, however, Callaghan indirectly
describes the road conditions that consist of white gravel instead of pavement. An example of this
is when the fisherman throws fish at Smitty, resulting for the fish to land in thick dust in front of
him, sending up a little cloud (8). Another example of this is at the end of the story when Smitty
gets into the automobile and the car drives forward in a cloud of dust (8). This demonstrates the
