Charlie Ravioli Essay

Professor Cantor
English 100
13 September 2012
Through Another Pair of Eyes The perception of life through someone else s eyes can alter one s
appreciation toward that particular lifestyle. Culture is perceived differently depending on the type of
environment in which we grow accustomed to. It can also range from the type of location in which we
live in. For instance, someone living in a different state would have a different perception of the way
we do things compared to their ways. In the essay Bumping into Mr. Ravioli, by Adam Gopnik, the
view on life is seen differently when viewed in Gopnik s perception. However, this perception of life
changes when viewed in a different point of view. Gopnik s perception of life ... Show more content

Gopnik learns about the busy lifestyle of Charlie Ravioli and begins to understand more of how a New
Yorker lives. Gopnik also realizes that the environment contributes to the personality of Olivia s
imaginary friend. Gopnik states Why is busyness the stuff our children make their invisible friends
from, as country children make theirs from light and sand? (Gopnik 156). According to Gopnik,
children base their imaginary friends from the type of environment they live in. For example, since
Olivia lives in New York, Her imaginary friend, Charlie Ravioli, has the personality of a busy person
living in New York. However, a child living on the countryside would create an imaginary that has a
personality based off that environment. These two quotes exhibit the idea of different lifestyles based
off different environments. Gopnik beings to understand the busy lifestyle of people in New York and
understands why Charlie Ravioli never has time to play with Olivia. He learns to appreciate this type
of lifestyle and will eventually grow accustomed to it especially living in such a busy city. Gopnik
also learns to understand more about his lifestyle and that in order to adjust to the busy lifestyle, he
has to get involved with the routine. Furthermore, Gopnik perception of life allowed him to learn
about the advances of technology and communications that has evolved overtime. Gopnik never

My Father And Brother
It was late fall in 2009 when I quietly sat on the plane looking after my youngest brother who was
restlessly sitting besides me. We were heading back to my hometown, Kotzebue, Alaska, for a reason I
did not know about. Sitting without any worry at all, I over heard my mom quietly speaking to a friend
in the aisle in front of us. My mom gravely explained to her that my father and brother are lost in a
bitterly cold and extremely windy snowstorm outside of town. On that frigid October night, our hearts
were colder than ever before. I reflected on the horrible, life changing situation as I looked out the
airplane window into the dark sky. It s like my eyes were bleeding fear that my heart was feeling, what
would I do without my father and brother around? We finally landed in Kotzebue where our family
came to greet us with warm hugs. They had so much food and desserts made for when we got to my
Aunty s house. Every one we knew stopped by the house to check on us and tell us it was going to be
okay. At this time, Search and Rescue were already looking for my father and brother outside the
town. They searched and searched for them and could not find them. My dad said they went caribou
hunting and saw a big herd of caribou that they planned on distracting. So my dad and brother split up
with my uncle to go and distract the caribou. In an instant, a foggy snow storm rolled through and they
could not see town at all. My dad was driving the snow machine in circles, trying to

information that the caller of a particular method makes available to the method itself. By accepting
arguments, methods become much more general tools that provide considerable flexibility to their

user. The suffix ln is a shorhand for the word line and indicates that the output displayed by the println
call should appear on the current line but that any subsequent output should begin on the following

it can be used as input to the program. The standard pattern for using the readInt method looks like

The Impact Of Cultural Dimensions On The Emerging...
Every organization has a culture that focuses on social integration, motivation and commitment to
help accomplish goals and innovation while increasing productivity and competitive advantage. The
complex nature of organizations forces one to analyze the internal behaviors that are perceived as the
norms in the environment, thus creating a culture that is embraced whether intentionally or
unintentionally by the people of the organization. To add, interacting across cultures and within
international organizations can be challenging due to the complexities of multicultural situations.
Hence, this dissertation will discuss the impact of cultural dimensions on the emerging leadership
development and operation of an international joint venture with Russia.
Russia is a country that is culture and historically filled with dramatic turning points. The country has
made significant strides both economically and politically to attract business opportunities such as a
joint venture; however, the country s policies could potential affect growth. Furthermore, initiating a
joint venture with another oil company within the country may prove to challenging if there is no clear
understanding of culture. This essay will discuss the research results from the consultant s perspective
on Russia, as well as the impact of cultural dimensions on the emerging leadership development and
operation of the joint venture in Russia.

The Great Presidents By Woodrow Wilson Essay
Presidential greatness isn t necessarily determined just by success or remembrance, but is determined
by the ideas that a president has and how it impacts the people. Each president sets out with an agenda
to accomplish and to leave a legacy behind, however, only few presidents are remembered, celebrated,
and taught about. The history of great presidents often correlates to time of war for America. This is
because great presidents often emerge to the people in times of crisis, such as wars. Of the many great
presidents, Woodrow Wilson, offers unique qualities such as energy, intelligence, and leadership that
make him a great president. The traits of a great president are beginning to be defined first in
Federalist 70 by Alexander Hamilton. In this document, Hamilton outlines the need for a strong
executive branch and the need for a strong president. A trait that Hamilton believes defines a good
president is a trait of strong energy; energy to protect the nation, secure the liberties, and help
administer laws to help promote the stability of the nation. Hamilton argues that a feeble executive
implies a feeble execution of the government. (Lawler). Without a strong, energetic president as the
backbone to provide leadership, the country can fall into the traps of factions or anarchy, ultimately
destroying the government. In addition to strength and energy, intelligence and leadership is crucial
for a president to be effective and great. Leadership is a necessary quality to

Sildenafil Research Paper
There are not many drugs in the world that can be said to treat the erectile dysfunction. Most of such
drugs contain Sildenafil in some form or another. Viagra, probably the best known drug for ED is
based on this chemical as well. This chemical inhibits an important enzyme PDE5 which improves
blood flow in otherwise restricted areas such as the penis.
Kamagra is one of the forms of the Sildenafil drug which is commonly available to people around the
world. This formulation is usually developed in India and is a cheap yet effective alternative to more
common medicines that are prepared in the west and are very costly. One of the more potent forms of
the drug is available as Kamagra Oral Jelly in UK and can even work in a swifter manner.

Gender In Sports Analysis Essay
Introduction I decided to attend a women s volleyball match at the University of Colorado at Boulder
for my sport related event. Last Sunday, October 2nd, CU s women s volleyball team faced UCLA.
Both teams are ranked in the top 25 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll
therefore I thought it would be an exciting match to attend. In addition, as a student of the university I
had never attended a women s volleyball game, which is alarming considering that I am a senior. The
reason I knew about the women s volleyball team playing is because of an e mail I received from the
university earlier in the week. The blast e mail read that our women s volleyball team was now ranked

discusses the gender inequities at the college level by stating they continue to lack the support that
boys sports enjoy (p. 494). The social dynamic of support or lack thereof in women s sports is still

Reflection Of The Indian Residential Community
What does it mean when, in a room full of young and aspirational leaders, not one individual identifies
as Indigenous? It s a sign of privilege. Privilege is who gets to be around the table, who is invited to
the conversation (Stonehouse, 2017). It s a division of opportunity based on a history of socialized
understandings of difference. But given this overwhelming landscape, Canada hopes to rewrite this
history, to guide and inspire Aboriginal peoples and Canadians in a process of reconciliation and
renewed relationships that are based on mutual understanding and respect (CC). This hope is
encapsulated in what is known as the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
The TRC represents a compilation of accounts that have come from the enduring legacy of Indian
Residential Schools (TRC, 2015). It is important because it calls to action the ways in which non
Aboriginal people think, perceive history, and understand difference (CC). With its inclusion of 94
calls to action, I am left wondering if these calls will be answered and by who. As both LaBoucane
and Stonehouse expressed, it s not just an Indigenous issue but a shared history (2017). This history
that is not well understood by many including myself. Therefore, I write this reflection with the intent
of exploring what my role is in terms of two areas; thought and action.
Thought implies the internal conversation I have with myself regarding my own beliefs and those I
hold for others. Often, these thoughts are

NICE Review Essay
Impact of the NICE guideline recommending cessation of antibiotic prophylaxis for prevention of
infective endocarditis: before and after study: A Review Thornhill et al. s article on the cessation of
antibiotic prophylaxis and its impact on infective endocarditis examined, both, prescriptions for
antibiotics of a standard premedication dose (3g amoxicillin or 600mg clindamycin) and diagnoses or
deaths due to infective endocarditis between January 2000 and April 2010. The time frame chosen for
this study was critical due to the release of updated NICE guidelines, stating providers should cease
use of any antibiotic prophylaxis for dental and other medical procedures. By examining the time
surrounding the NICE guidelines, the researchers hoped to evaluate any relationship between
premedicative prescriptions and incidents of infective endocarditis. They hypothesized that in order to
see evidence that the NICE guidelines were valid, there would be minimal to no change in rate of
infective endocarditis after the NICE guidelines became effective compared to before, even though the
amount of prescription decreased. The researchers felt that this study was necessary due to the limited

Implications Of Fiar Cut Adverts And Laser Cut Polipulations
Because each insert contained a different amount of fibers, the fiber mass at each time point was
converted to a percentage of the original fiber mass. As expected, the data shows a decrease in fiber
mass for both scissor cut inserts and laser cut inserts. Overall, the scissor cut inserts had a greater loss
than the inserts cut by the laser. Laser cutting had the greatest effected on the adhesion of polystyrene
to a polystyrene base. Polystyrene fibers were light and thin and often gets attracted to anything that
comes within a centimeter of it. Laser cutting helped contain the fibers on the insert. From the ten
second point on, there was significant difference between the fiber mass remaining on the inserts (p ≤

Our inserts are an integral part of the modular system. Therefore, the fiber coated inserts need to be
reliable. It is in our best interest to make sure the fibers, to which the cells are attached, adhere to the
insert despite the many transitions from Petri dish to analytical device to further investigation. Laser
cutting provides many advantages to cutting inserts. Hundreds of inserts can be cut in minutes. The
reproducibility is inimitable; each piece can be exactly the same size. The idea that the laser would
also fuse the layer of fibers into place would be a considerable advantage. This data and SEM images
support the idea that laser cutting sinters the fibers to the insert. SEM images show polystyrene fibers
melted into the polystyrene perimeter. As the laser blasts through the polystyrene base, it plows the
malleable polymer in both directions perpendicular to the cut. The result is a raised perimeter around,
and a thin connection between, the inserts. The inserts were imaged at an angle to investigate the
interface of fibers and raised edge. At a 30° to normal and 300x magnification, the smooth raised
border can be seen. The fibers spread underneath, but where the fibers extend on the underside of the
border, there are bumps. At the very least, we can say the fibers are tucked underneath the polystyrene
border, which would increase the adherence, but further inference would lead us to

Nervous Condition When Things Fall Apart

Nervous Condition When Things Fall Apart African traditions, values and customs have been slowly
influenced by colonization and eventual globalization that has turned the world into a global village.
The novel, Things fall apart, is a reflection of the extent to which Africans were tied to their beliefs
and customs, as a violation of those customs was regarded as being disrespectful to the gods. The new
values and beliefs brought by the missionaries are resisted since the communities regard them as
inclined on disrupting the norms that hold the community together. The novel Nervous Conditions is a
reflection of colonization effects on Africans identity and their state of mind; Dangarembga speaks the
voice of an oppressed female from postcolonial Africa, and in male dominated society. Achebe s
regains the voice of Africans and defends their humanity despite their nervous conditions of living in a
dual world that can ruin one s self identity and state of mind.
Things Fall Apart is an example encompasses the life, nature, and traditional culture of Africans.
Chinua uses Okonkwo, a fierce and champion fighter, to show how Africans led their life with regards
to the way they observed traditions, lived in harmony with each other and worked hard to provide
food for their families. For instance, when the gods desire the life of Ikemefuna, the village boy whom
the Umuofia village had been given in a debt settlement

Practice Ethical Non-Polyamory
As a therapist who often works with non traditional lifestyles, I get a lot of calls from distressed
clients struggling to navigate new relationship structures. The most common of these calls is from
someone who thought they were in a monogamous relationship until their long term partner suddenly

something like that. To be clear, (something sudden game changers aren t) polyamory is experienced
by many people as a legitimate orientation and lifestyle...when it is practiced ethically, by mutual

Technological Changes In Ww1
How did changes in technology contribute to the characteristics of the war? Major changes in
technology had a huge impact on the war and it made the war much more difficult and complex to
fight and dragged on for four years. New improvements in technology had provided the attackers with
new and powerful weaponry, technologies such as heavy artillery and machine guns which eventually
led to trench warfare and then caused both sides to be in stalemate, and deadly gases were the major
weaponry used in this war. The new technologies, mainly the machine gun, forced the war to become
a trench warfare.
World War I was the first war in which fixed trench warfare became the accepted method of fighting.
Due to the advanced technological improvements in engineering and chemistry, many countries
produced weapons deadlier than ever and this made the war impossible to win. The trenches were
built to protect the defenders: in dry country they were dug and reinforced, in wetter areas they were

Toxic Leadership in Law Enforcement Essay
Abstract Toxic leadership, likely found in all agencies at some point, and the general awareness of
toxic leaders with whom individual officers have worked, makes this a real problem for law
enforcement agencies. Knowing the root and cause of this type of leadership helps develop
understanding on the part of those that can effect a change in leadership within an agency.
Comprehending the methods by which such environments develop and their negative impact on the
agency as a whole via individual officers experiences, opens the doors on hidden collusion that

67). Such an environment creates high turnover rates, conflicts between departments, and productivity
issues (Wilson Starks, 2003, p. 3). While the toxic leader may, at first glance, appear to be a
productive member of the agency, due to his/her own self promotion, the agency and subordinate
officers lose ground through the toxic leader s efforts to control.
Turf Building Turf building is the act of creating an area within the assigned work profile viewed as
belonging to the toxic leader. By controlling access to information and tools, by selected subordinates
and other supervisors, the toxic leader creates an area where only he/she can succeed. Such actions are
undertaken for the sole purpose of self aggrandizement on the part of the person in charge; with the
desired result that they are seen as the keeper of the knowledge or the solver of the problem.
Consequently, this often creates an impression with the leader s supervisors that he/she is the
irreplaceable element, or the go to guy and can be justifiably depended upon to handle this area, thus
creating an agency sponsored sense of expertise. Furthermore, this confirms to the toxic leader that the
path they have chosen, and the method they have employed is the best choice; thus, actions taken in
self interest are now perceived by the toxic leader as serving the interest of the agency.

Should Illegal Aliens Be Deported
Have you ever wondered how safe the greatest country in the world really is? Me too. Whether illegal
aliens should be deported is a very controversial topic. There are pros and cons for boths sides of this
issue which can decide if something should be done about this or not. A positive point of view for why
illegal aliens should be deported back to their home country is it would create more jobs for
Americans. Everybody always complains about the low employment rate in America, only being 5.1
percent. It is estimated that 700,000 illegal aliens come into this country every year looking for work.
Illegal aliens who shouldn t even be here shouldn t be taking American jobs when the unemployment
rate is so low. Although jobs for Americans are important, keeping this country safe, some argue,
could be even more important. Another reason why illegal aliens should ... Show more content on

People come to this country for opportunities which aren t presented in the country that they were in.
Starting a life over in a different country could be a traumatic time, not knowing the language,
traditions, and many other things about the country which could make it a very awkward situation. Or,
going back to a home country where wars could be happening and staying away from that is the best
option. While starting a life completely over could a terrible event, going back to poverty could be
even worse. Another negative is by deporting all these illegal aliens, we could be sending them back to
poverty which they were trying to escape by coming here. Many of these people are trying to make a

An Attack On The Hipaa System
Medical technology gives accessibility to online hackers and the possibilities for an attack on the
Hipaa system. The way this system is set up it goes not only to public individuals but also government
individuals, so smartphones can be used to hack a server and cause delicate information to get out.
Personal information is stored in one location for convenience and accessibility, which is all the same
for an identity thief. Smart phones can also be used for other measures such as getting into personal
information and which is also part of being a hacker.
Advantages of the smart apps would include engagement with the patient. Patients have access to their
real time information which shows the trust between the patient and the physician. Some patients are
even calling these apps the front line to modern medicine. This apps do so much; for example Traxion.
This is an app that allows you to have a mobile trainer and it watches you and tracks your health and
the way things are going for you. It also gives feed back to your doctor so they can know how you are
doing with your health.
Efficiency and time management is another amazing thing about these apps following along with the
patient engagement. Patient save time by not having to pick up test result and visit the office
repeatedly just to get updated information. Login into applications such as iDoc, Inewleaf, ect helps
with savings for the patient. A point that is included in my scenario is if the NFL player did harm his

The Hero, Scapegoat, And Innocent Youth Archetypes In Lord...
Although Ralph shows good leadership skills, he also has weaknesses like everyone else. In the novel
Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Ralph portrays the Hero, Scapegoat, and Innocent Youth
Archetypes. Ralph demonstrates the Hero Archetype when he becomes chief, when he helps build
shelters to sleep in, when he stood up to Jack, when he went to look for the beast, and lastly when he
tried to help Piggy get his specs back. Ralph also demonstrates the Scapegoat Archetype when he was
attacked, when he was hiding from the savages, when he was seen by a savage and got frightened, and
when he realized he lost his innocence. Ralph s innocent youth is also shown when Ralph squirted
water at Piggy, when he imagined the group being rescued, and when he asked a question he already
knew the answer to.
Ralph s leadership and help he offers to everyone in the group clearly shows his connection to the
Hero Archetype. Ralph wanting to be chief and being chosen to be chief by the group, Who wants me?
Every hand outside the choir...was raised immediately... Ralph counted. I m chief then. (Golding 19).
This shows Ralph s heroism because everyone voted for him to be chief and he wanted to take that
leadership role to guide the group. Ralph helped the group build shelters and he built the most, We all
built the first one, four of us the second, and me n Simon built the last one... (Golding 85). This shows
how Ralph is a hero because he is doing his fair share of work and more, for the benefit of others.
When Ralph stood up to Jack because Jack was going against Ralph and challenging his position as
leader. Ralph said to him, Why do you hate me? (Golding 129). This shows Ralphs heroism because
he chose to show bravery rather than coware like a hero would. When the group was worried about the
beast and Ralph was reassuring them and offered to go look for the beast. The group was talking about
the beast and Ralph said, We ll go and look. (Golding 133). This shows how Ralph connects to
heroism because he made a selfless act that would put his life at risk for the sake of others. When Jack
took Piggy s specs and Ralph tried to help Piggy get them back. Ralph said to Jack, ...You ve got to
give them back. (Golding 195).

Essay Research on Marijuana
Research on Marijuana
Everyone believes Marijuana is a gateway drug. However, some people think it is not because they
believe they will not use anything else. If we do not fide some form of way to get rid of this drug or if
we make it legal our future generations will suffer. As of now our brains get affected. A solution would
be to find away to get rid of this drug and not to make it legal.
Marijuana has been around for centuries now and it still grows in use. People say it is good for the

Marijuana became more popular in the early 20th century and as grown in use. When marijuana
became popular officials tried to control in under the Marijuana Tax Act in
1937. This act just stated that if you were using it for medical reason that you had to pay tax for it. So,
to me it sound like we have given in before but eventually saw that it was being abused. Adolescents
and young adults started increasing in marijuana usage in the late 60?s and early 70?s. During this
time another act was passed which divided drigs into five catagoreis. Marijuana was placed uner the
first catagory. That catagory stated and I quote
? drugs with higher potenial for abuse and no accepted medical use.? But in 1972 the
National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Legalization which discriminalize marijuana
petitioned that marijuana be moved from catagory 1 to catagory 2 but were denied the grant. The
reason for this petition was that marijuana could be used as a theraputic medicine and because it was
less toxic and was more effecient than conventional medicine. Since the National Oranization for the
Reform of Marijuana came out in 1972 with the petition a variety of legal decision concerning

Tom Robinson s Injustice
Tom Robinson, Bob Ewell and the Injustice of Blacks
In To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus Finch states: The evil assumption that all Negroes lie, that all
Negroes are basically immoral beings, that all Negro men are not to be trusted around our women...
Which, gentlemen, we know is in itself a lie as black as Tom Robinson s skin (pg.232). To Kill a
Mockingbird by Harper Lee is the story of a lawyer s two children growing up in Maycomb, Alabama
to a world that seems more and more corrupt to them. The side plot of the Tom Robinson v. Ewell
family case highlights some of the more corrupt and wicked elements of the general Maycomb views.
Thus, Tom Robinson and Bob Ewell show the prejudice between whites and blacks.
Although Tom Robinson and Bob ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The way each character acts shows how unknowing and blind the residents of Maycomb are to the
injustice they create. Tom is hard working, respectable and knows and accepts his place in society,
even if it s a place where Tom is treated as if he didn t deserve to live. This is displayed when Mr. Link
Deas interrupts the court to say That boy s worked for me eight years an I ain t had one speck o
trouble outta him. Not a speck (pg.222). Bob Ewell, on the other hand, is disorderly, rude, vengeful
and lazy, as shown when, according to Ms. Stephanie Crawford, Bob Ewell stopped Atticus on the
post office corner, spat in his face, and told him he d get him if it took him the rest of his life (pg.247).
Because Tom Robinson and Bob Ewell are isolated differently, they each have differing workloads in
community. Bob Ewell gets to live a life where he is allowed to hunt off season and, as Atticus Finch
puts it, It s certainly bad, but when a man spends his relief checks on green whiskey his children have
a way of crying from hunger pains. (pg.34) Tom however, proves his worth in the community, even
though he is still viewed lower in the community than Bob Ewell. Tom s kindness against hatred is
shown in when he testifies that Mayella Ewell asked him to fix several items and

Economic Development Office For The State Of Texas
The summer of 2014, I interned at the Economic Development Office for the state of Texas. The office
was tasked with preparing relocation incentives for companies in order to create jobs. The office was
split into different departments totaling about 45 people. The office worked strictly under the
Governor. One would answer the phone, Office of the Governor, Economic Development... Economic
Development offices around the country came under repetitive criticism for behaving as governors
slush funds. Essentially there are clear lines of imperative control from superior offices. The office
was responsible for overseeing the economic development of the whole state. In other ways, the office
directly contrasted Weber s definition. Since the office was able to distribute funds and abate taxes, it
made incredible financial decisions for companies and the taxpayers of the state. Awards could not be
given out based on a specific set of rules. There was careful consideration into a companies intentions,
how they were prepared for the future, and if they fit the new model of businesses Texas wanted to
attract. In this regard, the office did not always make systematic decisions. Those promoted were the
best performing, most ambitious, and took initiative; only residue of a seniority system remained. A
meritocracy, in direct opposition to a tenured hierarchy, opened a dichotomy between the older and
younger generations. Under performers were let go regardless of tenure. On a

Patterson Hood, the lead singer of Drive By Truckers, wrote What It Means a few years ago in protest
of the Ferguson shooting of Trayvon Martin. To Hood s disappointment, in addition to the
disappointment of millions, the song is still incredibly appropriate in today s society. In Killer Mike s
Reagan, Killer Mike does not only blame Reagan for the atrocities of society, but includes the
administrations that follow in both H.W. and George Bush, Bill Clinton, and even Barack Obama. The
point that both artists are trying to get across is that the idea of social and racial injustice is ever
common today as it was in some of the worst times in American history. The only difficulty in seeing
the issues that plague society is that the knowledge of the average citizen is clouded by false
information stimulated by politics. To find the truth in the corruption of society, it is up to each citizen
of the country to address the notions that There s no sunlight in our ass and our heads are stuck up in

thinking about the truth with an intuitive, logical perspective as opposed to what politics are feeding
the public. Also, if people want change, they cannot settle for small victories, they need to enact
drastic actions to witness notable changes. An

How Did Pythagoras Influence The Ancient World
Pythagoras was from c. 580 B.C. c. 500 B.C., known as Pythagoras of Samos. He was a famous Greek
philosopher, religious leader, and mathematician best known for his work on geometry is the
Pythagorean theorem, a^2+b^2=c^2. He and his followers created a secret society which was known
as the Pythagoreans. They explored, discovered, and proved a lot of the principles, ideas, and concepts
of mathematics. Pythagoras was an excellent man who made many important discoveries in different
areas of mathematics and science. Those discoveries influenced the ancient world as well as today.

It states that for any right triangle, the square of the hypotenuse length c is equal to the sum of the
squares on the two shorter leg lengths a and b which is written as a^2+b^2=c^2 (Pickover, 2009, p.
40). An ancient Chinese text on mathematics, the Chou Pei also gives an evidence that the Chinese
knew about the Pythagorean theorem many years before Pythagoras or one of his followers (Joseph,
2000, p. 180). The Pythagorean discovered and first proved it, so that the theorem is named after
Pythagoras.

An Aesthetic Experience
To have an aesthetic experience there are two criteria that need to be met. The first is paying close
attention to intrinsic features. The second is that the object we focus on must be viewed as worthy of
our attention. An example from the book of an object being viewed as valuable is on page 58. Young
children will pick weeds and think they are just as beautiful as flowers because they do not see a
difference. As they get older they begin to see what is held at a higher value in society (p.58). I see this
at work when children bring me grass or rocks to hold onto because they see them as special. Most of
the girls only pick things with color, so they can kind of tell the difference. During the spring one of
our teachers was admiring a large bloom on the hydrangea bush. An older student then decided to pick
it and bring it to the teacher. This upset the teacher because that flower was not meant for the kids to
pick, but this shows how children understand and copy the ideas of adults. From the book I learned
that the most common way of assessing a child s maturity level in the 1940 s was to look at how well
they could draw a picture of a person (p.58). I can see this as a realistic way of assessing young
students. However, as you get older I don t think this would work as well. I am very bad at imagining
things so I would have a difficult time conjuring up a picture of a person in my mind to draw. I am
also not very good at drawing and when I draw people they are mostly

The Role of Nurses in the Vietnam War Essay
The Role of Nurses in the Vietnam War
On March 15, 1965, large shipments of troops arrived in South Vietnam. These troops occupied the
country until 1973. During this time, many men fought and died for the United States of America. The
numerous nurses that operated on thousands of soldiers are often forgotten. The soldiers that the
nurses operated on were usually blown apart and crippled for life. The nurses worked diligently to
save these men. Even by working hard to save these men they were not recognized as army personnel
by the public. The Vietnamese citizens and even the male American soldiers looked down upon the
nurses. The United States did not acknowledge the nurses that served in the Vietnam War until 1993.

The attitudes of the men were completely different when the women went into a bar. The soldiers and
generals would invite the nurses to parties and treat them nice; but, their sole purpose would be to
sleep with them (Marshall 252). The officers should have treated the nurses with respect. The most
severe instance in which the male officers showed that they did not recognize the nurse as army
personnel was in two cases in which nurses were murdered (Marshall 23). This should not have been
tolerated. The two soldiers did not even receive severe repercussions, one was court marshaled and the
other had nothing had nothing happen to him. If these soldiers murdered male soldiers they would
have been court marshaled and possibly received the death penalty. Aside from the Vietnamese people
and the army personnel, the army as a whole did not consider the nurses important. The Vietcong
pounded the airbase with mortars most of the night, and the security at the hospital was not even
tightened (Smith 171). This is another case in which the nurses were not considered important enough
to protect. Also, there were almost no feminine products for women to buy at the Post Exchange, a
military bases department store (Marshall 42). The male officers could buy anything from playing
cards to clothes, but females had to do with what they had. The nurses were also

The Benefits Of Drug Legalization
Illicit Drugs Should Be Legalized
Historically, legalization of drugs has been an ongoing debate for years. Drug legalization is a
controversial issue in North America because of its potential effects on society. Permitting the use of
drugs can undoubtedly have a significant impact on current socio economic policies. It is essential to
note that there are many benefits and consequences associated with legalizing drugs. However, the
direct economic and social benefits of drug legalization clearly outweigh its consequences. Illicit
drugs should be legalized because it creates a new revenue stream for government organizations,
reduces drug related criminal activities and benefits sick individuals in need (NYLN Youth Leader
Blog, 2015). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The argument for keeping drugs illegal has no economic benefits. Presently, manufacturers and
distributors of cigarettes and alcohol are subject to high government taxes (NYLN Youth Leader Blog,
2015). A similar model can easily be implemented for other illicit drugs such as heroin or cocaine.
Economists estimate government revenue can reach billions of dollars in North America if all drugs
can be distributed commercially (NYLN Youth Leader Blog, 2015).
Elimination of the criminal market place is another valued benefit of legalizing illicit drugs. As
observed in the Netflix series Narcos, the market for drug related activities (supply, production,
trafficking, distribution etc.) gave birth to organized crime (Netflix, 2017). The legalization approach
forces such criminal organizations to pursue non violent opportunities. This also enables law and
enforcement to appropriately control or regulate the drug market. Prohibition of alcohol also proves
that enforcing stringent laws for substance is not an effective strategy to reduce crime (Falconi, 2012).
Popular criminal bosses from the bootlegging era (such as Al Capone) were eventually driven out of
business via legal alcohol sales. Therefore, legalization of drugs reduces the strength of criminal
organizations, and thus drug related criminal activities. It also prevents law and enforcement agencies
from overspending on ineffective drug control programs (Boaz, 1999). For instance, United States
spent $16 billion on

buried an in unmarked grave. Clearly, Hurston struggled in life, but through leaning on God and her
faith, she pushed through the tough times. Hurston is now recognized as a distinguished author, and
was able to overcome her hardships just like Delia. Knowing Zora Neale Hurston was a religious
woman, it is no shock that throughout the Sweat there are many hidden Biblical references. One
reference the story often makes is the snake. The snake is a reference to many things. It first, is a
reference to the snake in the book of Genesis, where the devil tempts Eve. The snake also represents
original sin and the darkness that comes in all of humanity. In Sweat , Delia is afraid of the snake, thus
showing her fear of sin and darkness, portraying her as a strong Christian character. The snake can
also be a connection to Christ. When the snake is first brought to the house it appears dead. It remains
this way for three days, until it miraculously awakens (Carter 611). This relates to Christ when he is

Ontology, says tradition, is the science of being as such (Inwagen). In other words, ontology is the

this is going to be about identification. Who people say they are versus who they actually are is a
monumental argument in this drama. Claudius, the new king of Denmark, cleverly lies to everyone
about his true being: a murderer. Another example is Hamlet. Hamlet acts as if he is going insane for a
majority of the play. However, he is very much in control of his wits and is just pretending to be crazy
in order to get what he wants. Event unfold as the play progresses and people continue to lie and

many deals do not go through, which can impact not only the people involved, but many more people

NAFTA has many components. Some of these include tariff elimination for qualifying products,
Elimination of nontariff barriers by the year 2008, tariff reduction for motor vehicles and auto parts,
expanded telecommunications trade, reduced textile and clothing barriers, more free trade in
agriculture, Mexican import licenses should be gotten rid of, expanded trade in financial services,

happens, the princess got her happily ever after. Throughout the story Cinderella was often dressed in
tattered clothes and was made the cinder maid and when her father remarried a wicked woman. The
woman had two stepdaughters and they were Cinderella stepsister. Poor Cinderella was not allowed to
go to the ball because she would spend her time taking care of her two step sisters making sure they
were prepared for the ball themselves but not her, but because of a fairy she got the chance to went to
the ball. And while she was there she met a prince but before the two could get acquainted Cinderella
run away and left one of her slippers behind. In all the tales or any of the variation of Cinderella what
stood out the most was her slipper. In the Perrault version of the tales Cendrillon , the slippers she
wore were made of glass. When Cinderella entered the ball, she goes unrecognized by her stepsisters
and dazzle everyone there, especially the prince. She was so beautiful the prince could not keep his

glass slippers falls. The prince tries to keep up with her, but he couldn t, so he picked up the glass
slipper and vows to find her and marry the one that fits the glass slipper. As soon as Cinderella got

Corruption, negligence and irresponsibility of the civil management have contributed to the continued
spread of the slum in the city of Lagos. All mega cities face similar problems however the problems in
Lagos are intensified due to the fact that the population growth has exceeded infrastructure
capabilities. The housing facilities, water supply, road space, transport, solid waste disposal and piped
water services are unable to keep up with the high speed of growing urbanization in Lagos due to the
high population, population density, lack of finance and poor infrastructure. 2 ACTIONS Lagos is
currently embarking on urban regeneration schemes to try and demolish informal settlements and
build better housing for the affected families. In 1949, the Urban Redevelopment Act was passed. This
act focused on removing residential slums and providing safe and sanitary housing for people.
However this Act was not well thought off at all. It was severely criticized as it did not reconstruct the
promised 9 new units of low cost housing for every dwelling torn down. In 1954, an amendment to
this act was offered. Instead of demolishing these slums, focus would be placed on rehabilitating and
conserving existing dwellings. Habitat Management Programme for Poverty Alleviation. This was
started in 1998

Literary Devices In The Jabberwocky And The Lorax
The two stories The Jabberwocky and The Lorax, are both similar in the sense the authors use
nonsensical words and other literary devices to enhance parts of their stories. Why do the authors do
these things and how do they affect the story. One thing the two stories have in common is the way the
word usage affects the story. In both The Jabberwocky and the Lorax, they use words to help the
reader depict what is happening. One example from the Lorax would be, I am the Lorax, he coughed
and he whiffed He sneezed and he snuffed, (Seuss ln. 10 11). In this quote he uses words such as
whiffed and snuffled to show the reader that he is having a hard time breathing. This shows that the
word usage in this story affects how the reader interprets different ... Show more content on

In both stories they use figurative language to help the reader understand some details. One example
of this in the Lorax is when, the Lorax talks to the oncles about the waste his is making from hsi
machines. In the text it says, What s more, snapped the Lorax. (His dander was up.) Let me say a few
words about Gluppity Glup, (Seuss ln. 21 22). In this quote the author uses the word gluppity glup.
This word is an example of alliteration. This word also has kind of a dirty and icky feel to it. This may
inform the reader that this stuff is not good and that it is bad and dirty. One example in the
Jabberwocky of the author using sound devices is when the protagonist battles the Jabberwock. In the
text it states, The vorpal blade went snicker snack, (Carroll ln. 18). This is not only an example of
alliteration, but also onomatopoeia. The reader can assume that snicker snack is the sound of the blade
hitting something. This indicates that the sword is hitting the Jabberwock and that he is probably
killing it. This is how the authors use figurative language and sound devices in their

Justice In A Few Good Men
When it comes down to laws, it is really your own choice to determine; what s the good way? Is it to
obey or disobey? What is correct, what is incorrect? Questions like these go through people s minds
right before they are about to act. The law is there obviously for people to follow, but that is not
always the case. In A Few Good Men, within minutes of the movie. Lt. Daniel Kaffee was negotiating
the law with Capt. Jack Ross about how long the two men on trial could go away to prison for.
Without even going to court he started creating his own rules and made assumptions based on the few
notes he had read on the case. Instead of Lt. Kaffee proceeding as he usually does; not attending court
but simply negotiating with the opposing lawyers he decided to fight the other lawyers as he believed

Dawson and Pfc.Downey were innocent in the crime of murdering Pfc. William T. Santiago. Lt.
Kaffee fought for the two men who murdered Pfc. Santiago because Col. Nathan Jessep, the highest
ranking official stationed with Lance Cpl. Dawson and Pfc. Downey took advantage of his high
position in the Marines. Col. Nathan Jessep issued a code red a punishment for not withholding the
Marine code, Unit, core, God and country (A Few Good Men, 1992) on Pfc. Santiago as he wasn t
performing successfully and requested a leave of absence due to his illness. Pfc. Downey and Lance
Cpl. Dawson physically harmed Pfc. Santiago as they were advised to by Col. Jessep. Lt. Kaffee did
not like the corruption shown and so he decided to fight for Lance Cpl. Dawson and Pfc. Downey. Lt.
Kaffee identifies that Dawson and Downey murdered an innocent man, but Lt. Kaffee knows that in
their defence, the main reason behind their actions was only because they were told to by their higher

My Leadership Style By Rear Admiral Grace Hopper
Reflect on the personal influences, including the values and morals, you believe are important to you
and/or others when facing right versus right, and right versus wrong decisions as you lead and manage
others.
The term leadership invokes a deeper meaning than the simple Merriam Webster dictionary definition
as the office or position of a leader (Merriam Webster, 2015). Candidates seeking management
positions are frequently asked about their leadership styles during interviews. It is a derivative of the
what is the purpose of my leadership question asked by William George discussed in his article, Note
on why leaders lose their way (2004, p.2). My leadership style is best illustrated by the following
quote by Rear Admiral Grace Hopper (US Navy, retired): you manage things, you lead people. We
went overboard on management and forgot about leadership (Schieber, 1987).
I have fashioned my leadership style based on that quote as I have worked for my fair share of good
leaders as well as those that lost their way. The ones that hold true to their authentic leadership selves
understood what it meant for them to a leader from what they required in their respective leaders. The
same holds true for me. My values and morals as well as life experiences play a significant role in
how I address right versus right and right versus wrong decisions. Moreover, my appreciation for the
life experiences of those I am leading allows me to provide guidance and direction as they face

Sludge Lab Hypothesis I comprehend that the mixture is a combination of alcohol with water sand
with iron filings, my reason for thinking this is i smelled the aroma of alcohol i also thought that the
alcohol must include a percentage of water molecules. I believe the insoluble compound is sand iron
filings, my reason for thinking this was i could physically see the substances and i used a magnet to
tell that there s iron in it. Procedure I would first filter the liquids from the solids from the mixture the
procedure is shown in figure 1. figure1. 2. After separating the sludge mixer into a insoluble solids and

  • 2. Charlie Ravioli Essay Alvin Huynh Professor Cantor English 100 13 September 2012 Through Another Pair of Eyes The perception of life through someone else s eyes can alter one s appreciation toward that particular lifestyle. Culture is perceived differently depending on the type of environment in which we grow accustomed to. It can also range from the type of location in which we live in. For instance, someone living in a different state would have a different perception of the way we do things compared to their ways. In the essay Bumping into Mr. Ravioli, by Adam Gopnik, the view on life is seen differently when viewed in Gopnik s perception. However, this perception of life changes when viewed in a different point of view. Gopnik s perception of life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gopnik also realizes that the environment contributes to the personality of Olivia s imaginary friend. Gopnik states Why is busyness the stuff our children make their invisible friends from, as country children make theirs from light and sand? (Gopnik 156). According to Gopnik, children base their imaginary friends from the type of environment they live in. For example, since Olivia lives in New York, Her imaginary friend, Charlie Ravioli, has the personality of a busy person living in New York. However, a child living on the countryside would create an imaginary that has a personality based off that environment. These two quotes exhibit the idea of different lifestyles based off different environments. Gopnik beings to understand the busy lifestyle of people in New York and understands why Charlie Ravioli never has time to play with Olivia. He learns to appreciate this type of lifestyle and will eventually grow accustomed to it especially living in such a busy city. Gopnik also learns to understand more about his lifestyle and that in order to adjust to the busy lifestyle, he has to get involved with the routine. • 4. My Father And Brother It was late fall in 2009 when I quietly sat on the plane looking after my youngest brother who was restlessly sitting besides me. We were heading back to my hometown, Kotzebue, Alaska, for a reason I did not know about. Sitting without any worry at all, I over heard my mom quietly speaking to a friend in the aisle in front of us. My mom gravely explained to her that my father and brother are lost in a bitterly cold and extremely windy snowstorm outside of town. On that frigid October night, our hearts were colder than ever before. I reflected on the horrible, life changing situation as I looked out the airplane window into the dark sky. It s like my eyes were bleeding fear that my heart was feeling, what would I do without my father and brother around? We finally landed in Kotzebue where our family came to greet us with warm hugs. They had so much food and desserts made for when we got to my Aunty s house. Every one we knew stopped by the house to check on us and tell us it was going to be okay. At this time, Search and Rescue were already looking for my father and brother outside the town. They searched and searched for them and could not find them. My dad said they went caribou hunting and saw a big herd of caribou that they planned on distracting. So my dad and brother split up with my uncle to go and distract the caribou. • 7. The Great Presidents By Woodrow Wilson Essay Presidential greatness isn t necessarily determined just by success or remembrance, but is determined by the ideas that a president has and how it impacts the people. Each president sets out with an agenda to accomplish and to leave a legacy behind, however, only few presidents are remembered, celebrated, and taught about. The history of great presidents often correlates to time of war for America. This is because great presidents often emerge to the people in times of crisis, such as wars. Of the many great presidents, Woodrow Wilson, offers unique qualities such as energy, intelligence, and leadership that make him a great president. The traits of a great president are beginning to be defined first in Federalist 70 by Alexander Hamilton. In this document, Hamilton outlines the need for a strong executive branch and the need for a strong president. A trait that Hamilton believes defines a good president is a trait of strong energy; energy to protect the nation, secure the liberties, and help administer laws to help promote the stability of the nation. Hamilton argues that a feeble executive implies a feeble execution of the government. (Lawler). Without a strong, energetic president as the backbone to provide leadership, the country can fall into the traps of factions or anarchy, ultimately destroying the government. • 11. Reflection Of The Indian Residential Community What does it mean when, in a room full of young and aspirational leaders, not one individual identifies as Indigenous? It s a sign of privilege. Privilege is who gets to be around the table, who is invited to the conversation (Stonehouse, 2017). It s a division of opportunity based on a history of socialized understandings of difference. But given this overwhelming landscape, Canada hopes to rewrite this history, to guide and inspire Aboriginal peoples and Canadians in a process of reconciliation and renewed relationships that are based on mutual understanding and respect (CC). This hope is encapsulated in what is known as the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. The TRC represents a compilation of accounts that have come from the enduring legacy of Indian Residential Schools (TRC, 2015). It is important because it calls to action the ways in which non Aboriginal people think, perceive history, and understand difference (CC). With its inclusion of 94 calls to action, I am left wondering if these calls will be answered and by who. As both LaBoucane and Stonehouse expressed, it s not just an Indigenous issue but a shared history (2017). This history that is not well understood by many including myself. The time frame chosen for this study was critical due to the release of updated NICE guidelines, stating providers should cease use of any antibiotic prophylaxis for dental and other medical procedures. By examining the time surrounding the NICE guidelines, the researchers hoped to evaluate any relationship between premedicative prescriptions and incidents of infective endocarditis. They hypothesized that in order to see evidence that the NICE guidelines were valid, there would be minimal to no change in rate of infective endocarditis after the NICE guidelines became effective compared to before, even though the amount of prescription decreased. Implications Of Fiar Cut Adverts And Laser Cut Polipulations Because each insert contained a different amount of fibers, the fiber mass at each time point was converted to a percentage of the original fiber mass. As expected, the data shows a decrease in fiber mass for both scissor cut inserts and laser cut inserts. Overall, the scissor cut inserts had a greater loss than the inserts cut by the laser. Laser cutting had the greatest effected on the adhesion of polystyrene to a polystyrene base. Polystyrene fibers were light and thin and often gets attracted to anything that comes within a centimeter of it. Laser cutting helped contain the fibers on the insert. Our inserts are an integral part of the modular system. Therefore, the fiber coated inserts need to be reliable. It is in our best interest to make sure the fibers, to which the cells are attached, adhere to the insert despite the many transitions from Petri dish to analytical device to further investigation. Laser cutting provides many advantages to cutting inserts. Hundreds of inserts can be cut in minutes. The reproducibility is inimitable; each piece can be exactly the same size. The idea that the laser would also fuse the layer of fibers into place would be a considerable advantage. This data and SEM images support the idea that laser cutting sinters the fibers to the insert. SEM images show polystyrene fibers melted into the polystyrene perimeter. As the laser blasts through the polystyrene base, it plows the malleable polymer in both directions perpendicular to the cut. The result is a raised perimeter around, and a thin connection between, the inserts. The inserts were imaged at an angle to investigate the interface of fibers and raised edge. At a 30° to normal and 300x magnification, the smooth raised border can be seen. The fibers spread underneath, but where the fibers extend on the underside of the border, there are bumps. At the very least, we can say the fibers are tucked underneath the polystyrene border, which would increase the adherence, but further inference would lead us to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nervous Condition When Things Fall Apart Sarah Albanawi Dr. Kristin Sovis English 205 June 22th 2016 Nervous Condition When Things Fall Apart African traditions, values and customs have been slowly influenced by colonization and eventual globalization that has turned the world into a global village. The novel, Things fall apart, is a reflection of the extent to which Africans were tied to their beliefs and customs, as a violation of those customs was regarded as being disrespectful to the gods. The new values and beliefs brought by the missionaries are resisted since the communities regard them as inclined on disrupting the norms that hold the community together. The novel Nervous Conditions is a reflection of colonization effects on Africans identity and their state of mind; Dangarembga speaks the voice of an oppressed female from postcolonial Africa, and in male dominated society. There are pros and cons for boths sides of this issue which can decide if something should be done about this or not. A positive point of view for why illegal aliens should be deported back to their home country is it would create more jobs for Americans. Everybody always complains about the low employment rate in America, only being 5.1 percent. It is estimated that 700,000 illegal aliens come into this country every year looking for work. Illegal aliens who shouldn t even be here shouldn t be taking American jobs when the unemployment rate is so low. • 24. The Hero, Scapegoat, And Innocent Youth Archetypes In Lord... Although Ralph shows good leadership skills, he also has weaknesses like everyone else. In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Ralph portrays the Hero, Scapegoat, and Innocent Youth Archetypes. Ralph demonstrates the Hero Archetype when he becomes chief, when he helps build shelters to sleep in, when he stood up to Jack, when he went to look for the beast, and lastly when he tried to help Piggy get his specs back. Ralph also demonstrates the Scapegoat Archetype when he was attacked, when he was hiding from the savages, when he was seen by a savage and got frightened, and when he realized he lost his innocence. Ralph s innocent youth is also shown when Ralph squirted water at Piggy, when he imagined the group being rescued, and when he asked a question he already knew the answer to. Ralph s leadership and help he offers to everyone in the group clearly shows his connection to the Hero Archetype. Ralph wanting to be chief and being chosen to be chief by the group, Who wants me? Every hand outside the choir...was raised immediately... Ralph counted. I m chief then. (Golding 19). This shows Ralph s heroism because everyone voted for him to be chief and he wanted to take that leadership role to guide the group. Ralph helped the group build shelters and he built the most, We all built the first one, four of us the second, and me n Simon built the last one... (Golding 85). This shows how Ralph is a hero because he is doing his fair share of work and more, for the benefit of others. When Ralph stood up to Jack because Jack was going against Ralph and challenging his position as leader. Ralph said to him, Why do you hate me? (Golding 129). This shows Ralphs heroism because he chose to show bravery rather than coware like a hero would. When the group was worried about the beast and Ralph was reassuring them and offered to go look for the beast. The group was talking about the beast and Ralph said, We ll go and look. (Golding 133). This shows how Ralph connects to heroism because he made a selfless act that would put his life at risk for the sake of others. When Jack took Piggy s specs and Ralph tried to help Piggy get them back. Ralph said to Jack, ...You ve got to give them back. (Golding 195). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Economic Development offices around the country came under repetitive criticism for behaving as governors slush funds. Essentially there are clear lines of imperative control from superior offices. The second is that the object we focus on must be viewed as worthy of our attention. An example from the book of an object being viewed as valuable is on page 58. Young children will pick weeds and think they are just as beautiful as flowers because they do not see a difference. As they get older they begin to see what is held at a higher value in society (p.58). I see this at work when children bring me grass or rocks to hold onto because they see them as special. Most of the girls only pick things with color, so they can kind of tell the difference. During the spring one of our teachers was admiring a large bloom on the hydrangea bush. An older student then decided to pick it and bring it to the teacher. This upset the teacher because that flower was not meant for the kids to pick, but this shows how children understand and copy the ideas of adults. From the book I learned that the most common way of assessing a child s maturity level in the 1940 s was to look at how well they could draw a picture of a person (p.58). I can see this as a realistic way of assessing young students. However, as you get older I don t think this would work as well. Drug legalization is a controversial issue in North America because of its potential effects on society. Permitting the use of drugs can undoubtedly have a significant impact on current socio economic policies. It is essential to note that there are many benefits and consequences associated with legalizing drugs. However, the direct economic and social benefits of drug legalization clearly outweigh its consequences. Illicit drugs should be legalized because it creates a new revenue stream for government organizations, reduces drug related criminal activities and benefits sick individuals in need (NYLN Youth Leader Blog, 2015). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The argument for keeping drugs illegal has no economic benefits. Presently, manufacturers and distributors of cigarettes and alcohol are subject to high government taxes (NYLN Youth Leader Blog, 2015). A similar model can easily be implemented for other illicit drugs such as heroin or cocaine. Economists estimate government revenue can reach billions of dollars in North America if all drugs can be distributed commercially (NYLN Youth Leader Blog, 2015). Elimination of the criminal market place is another valued benefit of legalizing illicit drugs. As observed in the Netflix series Narcos, the market for drug related activities (supply, production, trafficking, distribution etc.) gave birth to organized crime (Netflix, 2017). The legalization approach forces such criminal organizations to pursue non violent opportunities. This also enables law and enforcement to appropriately control or regulate the drug market. Prohibition of alcohol also proves that enforcing stringent laws for substance is not an effective strategy to reduce crime (Falconi, 2012). Popular criminal bosses from the bootlegging era (such as Al Capone) were eventually driven out of business via legal alcohol sales. Therefore, legalization of drugs reduces the strength of criminal organizations, and thus drug related criminal activities. It also prevents law and enforcement agencies from overspending on ineffective drug control programs (Boaz, 1999). For instance, United States spent $16 billion on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Corruption, negligence and irresponsibility of the civil management have contributed to the continued spread of the slum in the city of Lagos. All mega cities face similar problems however the problems in Lagos are intensified due to the fact that the population growth has exceeded infrastructure capabilities. The housing facilities, water supply, road space, transport, solid waste disposal and piped water services are unable to keep up with the high speed of growing urbanization in Lagos due to the high population, population density, lack of finance and poor infrastructure. 2 ACTIONS Lagos is currently embarking on urban regeneration schemes to try and demolish informal settlements and build better housing for the affected families. In 1949, the Urban Redevelopment Act was passed. This act focused on removing residential slums and providing safe and sanitary housing for people. However this Act was not well thought off at all. It was severely criticized as it did not reconstruct the promised 9 new units of low cost housing for every dwelling torn down. In 1954, an amendment to this act was offered. Instead of demolishing these slums, focus would be placed on rehabilitating and conserving existing dwellings. Habitat Management Programme for Poverty Alleviation. This was started in 1998 ... • 42. Literary Devices In The Jabberwocky And The Lorax The two stories The Jabberwocky and The Lorax, are both similar in the sense the authors use nonsensical words and other literary devices to enhance parts of their stories. Why do the authors do these things and how do they affect the story. One thing the two stories have in common is the way the word usage affects the story. In both The Jabberwocky and the Lorax, they use words to help the reader depict what is happening. One example from the Lorax would be, I am the Lorax, he coughed and he whiffed He sneezed and he snuffed, (Seuss ln. 10 11). In this quote he uses words such as whiffed and snuffled to show the reader that he is having a hard time breathing. This shows that the word usage in this story affects how the reader interprets different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In both stories they use figurative language to help the reader understand some details. One example of this in the Lorax is when, the Lorax talks to the oncles about the waste his is making from hsi machines. In the text it says, What s more, snapped the Lorax. (His dander was up.) Let me say a few words about Gluppity Glup, (Seuss ln. 21 22). In this quote the author uses the word gluppity glup. This word is an example of alliteration. This word also has kind of a dirty and icky feel to it. This may inform the reader that this stuff is not good and that it is bad and dirty. One example in the Jabberwocky of the author using sound devices is when the protagonist battles the Jabberwock. In the text it states, The vorpal blade went snicker snack, (Carroll ln. 18). This is not only an example of alliteration, but also onomatopoeia. The reader can assume that snicker snack is the sound of the blade hitting something. This indicates that the sword is hitting the Jabberwock and that he is probably killing it. This is how the authors use figurative language and sound devices in their ... • 43. Justice In A Few Good Men When it comes down to laws, it is really your own choice to determine; what s the good way? Is it to obey or disobey? What is correct, what is incorrect? Questions like these go through people s minds right before they are about to act. The law is there obviously for people to follow, but that is not always the case. In A Few Good Men, within minutes of the movie. Lt. Daniel Kaffee was negotiating the law with Capt. Jack Ross about how long the two men on trial could go away to prison for. Without even going to court he started creating his own rules and made assumptions based on the few notes he had read on the case. Instead of Lt. Kaffee proceeding as he usually does; not attending court but simply negotiating with the opposing lawyers he decided to fight the other lawyers as he believed Lance ... • 44. My Leadership Style By Rear Admiral Grace Hopper Reflect on the personal influences, including the values and morals, you believe are important to you and/or others when facing right versus right, and right versus wrong decisions as you lead and manage others. The term leadership invokes a deeper meaning than the simple Merriam Webster dictionary definition as the office or position of a leader (Merriam Webster, 2015). Candidates seeking management positions are frequently asked about their leadership styles during interviews. It is a derivative of the what is the purpose of my leadership question asked by William George discussed in his article, Note on why leaders lose their way (2004, p.2). My leadership style is best illustrated by the following quote by Rear Admiral Grace Hopper (US Navy, retired): you manage things, you lead people. We went overboard on management and forgot about leadership (Schieber, 1987). I have fashioned my leadership style based on that quote as I have worked for my fair share of good leaders as well as those that lost their way. The ones that hold true to their authentic leadership selves understood what it meant for them to a leader from what they required in their respective leaders. The same holds true for me. My values and morals as well as life experiences play a significant role in how I address right versus right and right versus wrong decisions. Moreover, my appreciation for the life experiences of those I am leading allows me to provide guidance and direction as they face ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sludge Lab Report Sludge Lab Hypothesis I comprehend that the mixture is a combination of alcohol with water sand with iron filings, my reason for thinking this is i smelled the aroma of alcohol i also thought that the alcohol must include a percentage of water molecules.
