Arguments Of Alcatraz
Do you know that out of all of the most dangerous occupants of Alcatraz only 3 have succeeded in
breaking out? Those three were Frank Morris, Clarence Anglin, and John Anglin. They escaped, but
no one knows if they survived. They survived after breaking out of Alcatraz. There is evidence that the
currents could have helped them, they were pretty prepared, and people have seen them. First of all,
the currents could have helped them get to land after getting off of Alcatraz Island. The MythBusters
proved that you don t have to go against the current. All the runaways had to do was paddle away from
the island and the current would pull them and their raft to the mainland. The MythBusters video also
said that Frank Morris had an IQ of 133. That

TASK 1
Case Study
IMPROVING STUDENT LEARNING BEHAVIOUR
Case Brief
The case I would like to address in this assignment is based on one of my 2009/2010 NC classes in the
afternoon. Despite the initial group discussion on expected behaviour, this group was demonstrating a
whole host of disruptive behaviours. This group also included a special needs student, who was being
supported by a Learning Support Assistant, whom I assumed had been briefed on the needs. The
observed disruptive behaviour included the following:
Arriving late
Listening to iPoD
Persistent talking
Throwing objects
Derogatory remarks
Withdrawn attitude of a few

Lack of resources that could shift the teaching methods to a more kinaesthetic end.
Proposed Ways to Improve Behaviour (1000 words)
One can argue that the potential to cause disruptive behaviour from the perspective of a student or a
group of students does not automatically result in disruptive or troublesome behaviour. Such
behaviour can be kept dormant, controlled, neutralised or changed over a period of time.
Keeping troublesome/disruptive behaviour dormant is not the ideal solution and although it has its
short term benefits, it may adversely affect the rapport between teacher and learners not a good start.
Abatement, enhancing or changing disruptive behaviour requires certain skills and so it is hoped that
by addressing the pre requisite, specifying an appropriate methodology, identification, and selection of
appropriate techniques a logical flow to this section is established.

Technology And Civil Practices Of The Middle Eastern...
War is defined by the Webster dictionary as a state of usually open and declared armed hostile conflict
between states or nations , this definition does not apply to the current war in Afghanistan. This war
has been one of the most controversial wars in United States history, with one of the biggest issues
being how Afghanistan is being effected since it is not a part of the war as much as a platform where it
is taking place. For all the confusion, destruction, and loss during a war there is a bright side in the
unification and advancement of both technology and civil practices. This war has been no different in
the fact that technology has advanced exponentially, and the world has begun to truly understand the
customs and practices of the Middle Eastern States. The improvement of technology has allowed the
building of better agricultural equipment, which has in turn given rise to better agricultural practices.
Another thing that has changed both with a change in personnel and a change in policies is the
government of Afghanistan. The main driving force for the change being seen is by the young people
of Afghanistan who want the culture to evolve in a more global manor. When all of these changes are
looked at as a whole instead of individually there is a clear trends that shows the growing economy of
Afghanistan increasing at the highest rate in 100 years. This paper will explore all of the issues and
outcomes stated above using Hofstede s Five Dimensions of culture and

The Civil Right Movement In The 1960 s
Everyone as a child has a role model someone that they look up to for advice. This person was my
uncle. My uncle was the first person to attend a college. This was the person that embed the idea that I
will be following in the footsteps and attend college. My parents at that time did not really push me
they were focused on making sure there was food on the table. Also during my middle school year he
was the main advocate for me to attend Verbum Dei High School instead of following my cousin and
attending Serra High School. He has open my eyes to the injustice in this world.

the State Capitol in Montgomery Alabama. Well reading this post he said I am willing to go to jail for
what I believe in . I remember reflecting on this. His action really motivated me and still motivated me
to this day. It made me think of the Civil Right Movement of the 1960 s and how if you speak your
mind it can make a difference. He sat there in the middle of the Capitol since it open till he was
forcibly removed by the Capitol Police and arrested. He was willing to face deportation for a cause. I

The Amusement Park Six Flags New England
The legendary amusement park Six Flags New England is situated in Western Massachusetts in the
city of Agawam, Massachusetts, and has been running since 1870. During this time, it was originally
an ordinary picnic with a cluster of trees named Gallup s Grove. Subsequently, the park replaced its
name with Riverside, and has had its name of Riverside for the majority of the entire period of the
1900s. One famous event, known as The 1929 Wall Street Crash, then had an unfortunate effect on the
amusement park, and as a result, the amusement park shut down in 1939 after countless efforts to
reestablish the amusement park. After the Wall Street Crash, Edward Carroll Senior made history
when made an investment and paid for the amusement park, and developed the amusement park into a
notable success in New England. After a century of the amusement park being known as Riverside, it
then changed its name to Six Flags New England in 2000. This amusement park has various rides with
a maximum amount of thrill which have customers at the edge of their seats, less thrilling rides which
are excellent for just sitting back and enjoying themselves without all the maximized thrill, eating,
entertainment, and shopping for relaxing from all the exciting rides and taking it easy, and Hurricane
Harbor to cool you off in the summer and Fright Fest to terrorize and startle you during Halloween.

The Controversial Topic of Genetic Testing
Genetic testing has become a highly controversial issue among both the general population and the
scientific community. It is a process that exposes a person s entire genome sequence, allowing it to be
read and evaluated to identify potential risks for genetic diseases or diseases that could be passed onto
offspring (Holt Productions, 2012). With thousands of genetic tests already being used, and more
being established, it seems logical to put this growing technology to use. Some agree that it is a person
s right to know and understand his or her genetic makeup. However, others argue that, despite the
benefits of genetic testing, caution should be used to carefully inspect the risks associated with this
new technology.
Relatively simple ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Embryonic screening allows for the elimination of inherited diseases before birth or a treatment plan
before birth. In breast cancer patients, genetic testing allows the physician to know if chemotherapy is
necessary, which would expand treatment options. Genetic testing could eliminate years of
experimental testing and medication use used to diagnose a new disease. Overall, genetic testing is in
alignment with the core medical philosophy that early prevention leads to early treatment, which leads
to an overall better outcome for the patient.
The opposing side argues, however, that society is not ready for this technology. People may not be
capable of handling the emotional or psychological stress associated with genetic testing. Results may
vary between genetic testing companies and many variables, such as sampling errors, could lead to a
false positive or false negative test. Further, it is possible that some people may interpret the
seriousness or implications of their results incorrectly. This could result in people making unnecessary,
and even dangerous, lifestyle changes. For example, if a person is told that he or she has a 60% of
being diagnosed with breast cancer, that person may undergo preventative surgery to avoid the
disease; however, such surgery may have been unnecessary, as the person may never have developed
the disease.
Additionally, as the popularity of genetic testing increases, some fear that a

Recruitment Theory
In this task I am going to be defining the recruitment process and documentation components.
Recruitment is a process in which allows businesses to obtain selected qualified people to attend to a
job vacancy.
The recruitment process is the steps in order to successfully pick suitable employees that match the
specifications. There are typically seven steps included in the recruitment process to ensure the right
person is selected:
●
●
●

●
●
Indentify vacancy
Draw up job description and specification
Advertise vacancy
Shortlist possible candidates
Interview candidates

and grow. Tesco also offers a talent planning scheme in which allows individuals who work at Level 1
to work their way up through the business. This scheme includes the planning of objectives, skills
required, competencies and behaviours necessary for existing colleagues to apply for a bigger role .
Tesco s recruitment process includes:
● Vacancies being advertised
● Screening of applicants CV s
● Successful candidates invited for interview
● Successful candidates then attend assessment centre
● Unsuccessful candidates sent letter
● Successful candidates invited to second interview
● Successful candidates sent offer letter and contract

Tesco s documentation for the recruitment process is slightly different to typical documents as the job
description and person specification are combined. This means together the job description and person
specification help job applicants and post
holders know exactly what is expected of them. Other
documents include:

Oscar winning film star, Angelina Jolie, announced her breast removal surgery to prevent cancer in
May 2013. The actress double mastectomy and reconstruction has raised awareness of cancer
treatment, researchers said.

and that it can be done during the breast removal operation, said Dr. David Benjamin Lumenta, of
Medical University of Graz.

For the study, the researchers used data collected from 1,000 women recruited online before and after
Jolie s announcement. Following Jolie s statement, researchers noticed an increase in the percentage
of women who were aware that breast reconstruction is possible and that it could be done using a
woman s own tissue. A larger jump from about 41 percent to about 60 percent was noticed in
consideration to the number of women who knew that breast removal and reconstruction could be
done during the same surgery.
Breast cancer and Angelina Jolie
In light of the results of the study, researchers have begun to beg the question: Can stars encourage
people living with different conditions to talk about it and bring it out of the shadows? One in five of
the women taking the poll indicated that the media s coverage of Jolie s announcement made them

Biological Substances And Its Effects On Bacterial Infections
Introduction: Antibiotics are vastly known to be prominent therapeutic agents used to treat and prevent
bacterial infections. Antibiotics involve chemical substances, either of natural or synthetic origins, that
destroy pathogenic microorganisms with minimal damage to host tissues. These chemotherapeutic
agents combat various diseases by affecting different targets in eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells.
Antibiotics work through several mechanisms of action to combat target pathogens: (1) inhibition of
cell wall synthesis; (2) inhibition of protein synthesis; (3) injury to the plasma membrane; (4)
inhibition of nucleic acid synthesis; and (5) competitive inhibition of the synthesis of essential
metabolites. Despite the availability of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The evolutionary development of these superbugs can be attributed to the global misuse of
antimicrobial agents. The overpopularity and distribution of antibiotics being sold without prescription
to treat minor symptoms including headaches have promoted resistance growth. In addition, continual
consumption and longer dose regimens of outdated, adulterated, and even counterfeit antibiotics are
common. These factors have collectively contributed to the development of antimicrobial resistance.
And hence, new antibiotics need to be produced as potential agents to address these pathogens. Many
antibiotics incorporate chemical substances of natural origins. Various members of the Streptomyces
genus, which account for over two thirds of clinically used antibiotic treatments, are soil
microorganisms. This is just one out of countless microorganisms that are present in the soil that can
potentially have antimicrobial properties just waiting to be discovered. In addition, soil is one of the
most expansive ecosystems that have contributed to the origins of antibiotic synthesis as well as
contribute to the development of thousands of clinical and medicinal applications. In this experiment,
microbial isolates were extracted from various soil samples, purified, and screened through a variety
of antibiotic and genomic processes to determine antibiotic attributes. These

Humans And Apes Have An Ape-Like Ancestor
The complete history of human evolution is a long standing mystery scientists have yet to fully figure
out. The topic typically focuses on the evolutionary trajectory of primates, which over the course of
millions of years, has lead to the appearance of anatomically modern humans. As you can imagine,
piecing together beyond ancient history, involves the combined prowess of many scientific disciplines,
and once in a while, a curveball may confuse even the most methodical anthropologists. Other times, a
rare ah ha! moment is encountered, which can shed light on the complex timeline of Homo Sapiens.
Take, for example, the recent discovery of shoulder blades belonging to two early human
Australopithecus species [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australopithecus], which researchers believe
provide us with further evidence that humans and apes do indeed share an ape like ancestor. ... Show

Hasn t that already been established? Well, yes and no. It s true that humans are most closely related to
the great apes of Africa, as the Washington Post points out
[http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/speaking of science/wp/2015/09/09/ancient shoulders show

Nathan Young, a researcher behind the study published recently in the Proceedings of the National
Academy of Sciences,, highlights this fact in a news release in a news release. We have features that
clearly link us with African apes, but we also have features that appear more primitive, leading to
uncertainty about what our common ancestor looked like.
Based on this assertion, some scientists have suggested that our common ancestor may have actually

Modern Information Technology Has Developed A Way For People
Modern information technology has developed a way for people to receive support from others.
Online social support is expanding as the general public begins to feel comfortable using online social
groups to seek support from others. Online social groups have extensive benefits for users who are not
able to or do not desire to attend face to face communication support. These groups have emerged
within health care as a result of individuals needs. These individuals need to know more about their
health conditions have driven many health groups to develop. Plenty of these online support groups
are in the form of blogs, such as mom blogs, bodybuilder blogs, health blogs, and healthy eating
blogs. Furthermore, there are also certain online support areas known as social media that allow
people to share personal experiences or share current events in their life. Common examples of this
include: Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat. At the present time, in North America alone, it is estimated
that there are currently over 250 million people who use the internet. Individuals may utilize the
internet for an extensive amount of reasons, such as information gathering, entertainment, and
personal use. The idea of online support groups is relatively modern, having been around only for a
decade or so. However, these social groups have become a method to social support and positive

Horse Slaughter
Horse Slaughter
The topic of horse slaughter doesn t usually come up very often in everyday conversation. Horse
slaughter is more of an implicit subject, which your everyday person doesn t know much about.
Because it is highly controversial, it has gone through the cycle of being banded and then reinstated
twice in the last 5 years. With being involved in the horse industry my entire life, I have witnessed the
effects first hand. Some people see it as killing pets, animal cruelty, and morally wrong. However, I
see it as a source of income, a way to stop the starvation and abuse of horses, an export industry for
the United States, as well as a quality meal for in times of despair. The history of people eating horse
meat dates back to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the 1930 s low supply and high cost of pork and beef made horse meat rise in popularity.
Again during World War II, people were again in the same predicament. Inflation during the early
1970 s raised the cost of traditional meats; Time Magazine reported from Carlson s, a butcher shop in
Westbrook, CT, that they were selling over 6,000 pounds of horse meat a day. (Weil) In 2006, the
House of Representatives voted to end horse slaughter; the bill passed to make the killing and selling
American horses for human consumption an illegal practice in the United States.
Today in the US, people do not consume horse meat on a whole sale basis. But because many other
counties do, the exporting of horse meat is a huge industry. When the ban was in place, US horses
were being transported to Canada and Mexico to be slaughtered instead. From 2006 to 2010 the
increase in horses being exported to Canada and Mexico was 148 and 660 percent. They are loaded up
on trailers and shipped across the boarders, often times going days without food or water until they
reach their destination. The regulations, or lack thereof, are different than in the US. (Shesgreen)
Valley Meat Co. owner Rick De Los Santos brings up valid points in his interview with NBC News
last week. The majority of people, who are against slaughter, are getting caught up on the ick factor of
killing our pets . However, the process is the exact same for cows and pigs.

The study was done to show the effects of intrapersonal maternal or being shaped by your mother, and
intrinsic physiological regulation or emotional self regulation on the development of early prosocial
development.(Scrimgeour, Buss, Davis, 2015, p.102) The participants of the study were (125) 2 year

Only one of the participant s fathers participated in the study so they were all considered mothers for

(Chamberland, Lacharite, Clement, Lessard , 2015, p.1) The requirements for the participants of this
study was that they had to be less than 9 years of age and exposed to multiple risk factors for child
maltreatment, These risk factors included behavior problems, victimisation, and general family
dysfunction. A total of 81 children baseline and 73 children at post test were from child preventive
services. In contrast 88 were from child protective services. (Scrimgeour et al., 2015, p.3) The average
age of the children who participated were 50 months of age. Approximately one half of the families
were single parent families, more than a third of the families had 3 or more children and nearly six out
of ten responded having education less than ninth grade. The data collection for the experiment was
done in two parts, Time one before or during the intervention, and Time two after the intervention.
Two researchers assisted in meeting with each of the families, one met with the parents and made
observations and an interview. While the other used assessment tools with the children. The results
showed a strong correlation in both Time one and two with low parental stress, and low child abuse
potential for socioemotional development. The last variable however good quality of home
environment, only correlated with Time one. Cognitive/language development had a positive
correlation in both Time one and two. (Scrimgeour et al., 2015, p.6) The study did a great job in
showing potential correlations in households where children might be at risk for hindered
development. It is unknown how applicable the results since the ethnic demographic wasn t given and
might influence the results through cultural differences, As a whole though it seems reliable.

Poem Analysis On His Coy Mistress By Andrew Marvell
Andrew Marvell wrote a unique love poem in To His Coy Mistress, as this poem expresses far more
than one might expect or even perceive upon the first reading. Enveloped in this ode to a cherished
muse are expressions of the carpe diem philosophy, laments about the impending doom of death, and
hopes to transcend contemporary abilities to live forever in the love of another. While Marvell s
primary purpose in writing this piece may have been to woo a young maiden, he made a far more
significant contribution to the era s literary culture in the process. Marvell most directly addressed To
His Coy Mistress to a woman he intended to court, as he spends a majority of the piece lamenting that
he didn t have time sufficient to praise her features. In the opening stanza, Marvell states that, Had we
but world enough, and time.... An hundred years should go yo praise.... An age at least to every part, /
And the last age should show your heart (Marvell 1 18). While Marvell ones not directly praise or
describe his muse in any way, he does emphasize how extraordinarily praiseworthy she be, and this
idea forms the basis for the philosophical wonderings and realizations that comprised the following
stanzas. Thus, Marvell addressed his poem at a potential lover for the purpose of courting her on an
unknown occasion, but the real significance of the poem lies in the later ideas he presented to fulfill
this purpose. In his second stanza, Marvell takes a drastic turn from the romantic

The Puritan community of the Massachusetts Bay colony was primarily focused around church and

meaning they were predestined for heaven.
In the colony of Massachusetts bay, around 9,000 Puritans settled down to make their own model

An overcrowded area puts enormous pressure on the state for the provision of houses and other
services. People in the urban areas end up being jobless because there is a lot of demand for jobs that
is caused by this overpopulation. Even the rural areas suffer because there will be depopulation,
people will move out leaving the place to the elders only. The rural areas will not be productive in
anyway because people who are economically active have left, this means we may end up not having
people who can bring changes in the rural areas or those who serve as role model to the upcoming
generation.
MAIN OBJECTIVE
The main aim of the study is to investigate the effect of rural urban migration on four district of North

The story By the Waters of Babylon is about a young man named John. He is the son of a priest in his
community. He ventures off into the dead places. While sleeping in an old building from the old
people, he has a dream. It is about a city with bright lights and funny looking objects. He then seeks
out this city of the gods. On his quest he finds the truth, about the old people. They did not have magic
but they had technology instead. John brings back the news and tells his father. His father accepts the
truth and they slowly tell their community.
The Chrysalids and By The Waters Of Babylon also have many similarities in plot. The main character
in both stories travels to forbidden lands. Also the main characters were both sons of highly respected
men in their communities. Both of the characters end up with a better life in the end. Both characters
have dreams about the truth which makes them go on quests.
These novels had some differences in plot as well, but not too many. One main difference is that the
societies view dead places differently. Waknuk views dead places as a place of the devil in comparison

A Prayer For Owen Meany Analytical Essay
A Prayer for Owen Meany was an intriguing and poignant novel with profound concepts intertwined
with its comical and relatable events of everyday life. It was able to make a personal connection with
the reader while at the same time communicating some of the deeper perceptions of the human race
and taking a firm political stand on the international policy of the United States. The content within
the novel has basis in Irving s personal life, as well as in the time period shortly before the novel was
written, giving it the ability to impact an individual on a personal level and make a bold political
statements on the United States and its people. John Irving s childhood reflects many of the themes

He is puerile. His sense of political outrage is strictly emotional. This is definitely a mind boggling
idea since there are so many characteristics he and Johnny share, but it is agreeable that Johnny
Wheelwright did lack distance and perspective . In A Prayer for Owen Meany, John stated that he was
a Joseph and that he did nothing. This was completely correct and gives an understanding to why
Irving made him the main character in the first place. The reader gets to see into Johnny s thought and
sees the book through that singular perspective, but Irving states that he has none. That is because he
states everything as it is and gives the opinions of Irving himself in order to make political statements.
This was an amazing move on Irving s part, and it gave the reader a chance to absorb these kinds of
concepts without being given them by a narrator. Instead all the ideas can be analyzed as if the reader
was a first person observer as well. John Irving also divulged that he book was created with the
question of what might convince him of religious faith. A Prayer for Owen Meany was the result of
such and embodied who Irving might be if those events had happened to him. Overall, Irving is no

Island Made Thesis
How was the Island Made
By:Jonah Jacksteit
Thesis Statement This report will talk about how the marooned island got made.
An island 2000 km south of Hawai i. The island is at 1°52 23.40 N and 157°19 6.69 W and spans 717
square kilometers of land. On this land there were volcanoes but after some time they got eroded
away. In this report I will prove that there was a volcano on the island and I will do so by stating how
the plants, climate, location and animals prove that there was a volcano.
Plants There are very few native plants on the island. The only plants that are on the island are
breadfruit trees, pandanus trees, pawpaw trees, coconut trees, babai(a type of taro root), mosses and
mangrove trees. There are also yams lemons, and sugarcane as non tree plants. These seeds for plants
probably got transported to the island by birds except for the coconuts because there aren t any land
borders to any other island. Because there are no land boarders it gives us some evidence that the
island got made by a volcano.

Grasslands Case Study
This week s weather change could be a boon to duck hunters, as a freeze up north should drive some
new birds down into the Grasslands. Last Saturday, my son Bill and a friend had a pretty good shoot at
the Santa Cruz Club south of Los Banos. They had a good early morning flight, mostly Greenwing
Teal and Northern shovelers. They ended up with 11 ducks, including one Canvasback, before the
flight ended about 10:30 a.m. To make it more challenging, they were both shooting 20 gauge
shotguns. My son is still shooting the same Remington Model 58 that I gave him in 1970, when he
was 13 years old. The public shooting areas showed some increase in averages last Saturday in the
Sacramento Valley with Delevan and Sacramento Refuges being the best. In the Los Banos Complex,

Description Of An Electrocardiogram, Or Ecg Or Ekg
Introduction
An Electrocardiogram, or ECG or EKG, is a recording of the hearts electrical activity as a graph over
a period of time, as detected by electrodes attached to the outer surface of the skin and recorded by a
device external of the body (Boundless). The graph of an ECG can identify various things initiated by
the heart, such as its rate, rhythm, a decrease in blood flow, and a possible enlargement. For a healthy
individual, a typical ECG shows the whole cardiac cycle or heart beat which includes a P wave (Atrial
depolarization), a QRS complex (Ventricular depolarization), and a T wave (Ventricular
repolarization). The ECG s first spike or P wave is triggered by the Sinoatrial node (SA node), which
is also known as the pacemaker and the electrical impulse from the atria to the ventricles is conducted
by the atrioventricular node (AV node). During each heart beat the heart muscle depolarizes, this is
detected on the skin where the ECG electrodes are placed by the machine and then translated into a
linear representation (Boundless). The resting membrane potential of a heart cell is 60mv, when an
influx of positive ions enter the cell (NA+ and CA++) depolarization takes place causing the heart to
contract. This action takes place during the peak of the P wave (Atria systole). The QRS complex
represent when the left and right ventricles contract and depolarize, also called ventricular systole.
This action normally takes place at the highest amplitude in the complex,

Skellig Motifs
Through the novel Skellig, motifs such as birds, stone and William Blake s poetry are introduced to
the reader and add a deeper layer to the novel. David Almond uses the motif of birds often throughout
the text, which adds meaning and thought to the story. William Blake is a skilled poet and shares
poems to the world, but when added to the novel it adds purpose. Stone is another critical motif used
in Skellig and is used repeatedly to add depth to the book.
References about birds appear at different sections of the novel and are the main motif in the novel.
Skellig answers a question from Michael What are you? I whispered. He shrugged again. Something.
He said. Something like you, something like a beast, something like a bird, something like an angel.

Police Scene Investigation And Reconstruction
General Identifying Statement
Crime scene investigation and reconstruction are both central aspects in the study of policing. By
definition, a crime scene is a scene or place where an offence has been committed, and the site where
forensic evidence is to be gathered in the pursuit of investigating the offence (Fisher, 2012, p.10).
Fisher goes on to clarify that a crime scene may refer to a physical place that may provide potential
evidence to an investigator. This is not limited to a location but rather may include a include a person s
body, any type of building, vehicles, places in the open air or objects found at those locations. Fisher
elaborates; explaining how hoth forensic and scientific techniques are used in order to preserve and
obtain evidence of crime at the crime scene. (Fisher, 2012, p. 13).
Lee and Palmbach (2001) point out that the processes involved in examining a crime scene does not
need to be sophisticated or elaborate; instead, investigators need to concern themselves with adhering
to the fundamental principles and procedures within crime scene investigation. It is important to
remember that there is not a comprehensive plan or sole guiding principle when it comes to processing
crime scenes (Pepper, 2010, p. 101). This being the case, exploring different protocols and methods
that assist in forming a logical plan towards crime scene investigation is crucial in policing.
Understanding how different methods, protocol, and elements relate and connect to

Corruption In The Chocolate War
Benjamin Franklin once stated that rebellion to tyrants is obedience to god (Straub).
This ideal has been a staple of American life since the Revolutionary War. In fact, American authors
often write novels about Katnisses or Trises fighting and even superseding corrupt governments and
tyrants (Collins; Roth). However, these stories are often exaggerated and romanticized, yielding an
inspirational, yet overdone plotline. Realistic writer Robert Cormier challenges this common theme by
writing The Chocolate War, a story in which the protagonist isn t necessarily a good guy and likewise
does not win . In his novel The Chocolate War, Robert Cormier uses the cruelty of some characters
and the indifference of others to show that it takes many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jerry, despite his relative decency, is victimized by the power structure of the school as well as his
peers (Bagnall). Choosing to disturb the universe means that Jerry himself is thrown into chaos
(Junko). His refusal to conform makes him the prime target of both the Vigils and the school officials,
despite admiration from his peers. Cormier makes it clear that moral individuals can not survive
unaided in a corrupt, oppressive system (Harris et al.). Jerry, while standing up for what he believes is
right, is constantly torn down and abused by Archie s goons. No one, not even his best friend Goober,
came to his rescue to combat his oppressors. Arguably, the reason Jerry was not saved was because he
stood alone (Harris et al.). Jerry stood alone in refusing to take the chocolates, his abuse by the Vigils,
and his eventual physical and mental destruction by Janza. In fact, his destruction makes him into a
martyr. His surrender in the end makes him an even more realistic hero and shows that it takes more
people to fight powerful figures (Peck). Cormier challenges the perception of the modern Superman
figure and replaces him with an Average Joe : a jack of all trades but master at none. Despite his
defeat, Jerry s legacy will live beyond him, whether publicly celebrated or privately discussed by
Trinity students (Siegler). Jerry s battle could have been won if his peers acted against the power

Cheesuaka was good to his word and became an excellent warrior and a teacher. He grew close with
his younger brother, and after their mother moved to Missouri he acted as a foster parent as well.

the whites continue to take Indian lands, they had made the Indians dependent on the white world s

Prophets teachings called for a total rejection of the white culture, which included the clothing and
technology, alcohol and religion. He also spoke out against the selling of land because according to
Indian beliefs no one owned the land. This was according to ancient tradition; the land and its
resources were given to everyone by the Great Spirit. Along with this, Prophet preached another
powerful message he called for an intertribal confederacy that would accept Indians everywhere. To
help this vision become a reality Prophet looked to his brother, Tecumseh. (Edmunds)

young it was obvious he would be a very highly skilled hunter, leader and warrior. The two used his
image amongst the native in order influence them to join the fight. Tecumseh considered himself an

Over the five year period until 2015 6, there was an annual decline in revenue of 10.6% (ibisworld,
2016). Numerous challenges have beset the industry, such as, lower book prices, strong competition
from online retailers and a change in popularity from printed books to e books (ibisworld, 2016).
Other issues that have a significant effect on bookstores are parallel import restrictions (IBISWorld,
2016), and online retailers being advantaged by low freight charges and often no requirement to pay
(GST) Goods and Services Tax (ABC, 2016).
Encouraging Signs
However, there are encouraging signs according to Williams, (2015) who points to the icon of
bookstores Dymocks, which claims to have had its best ever sales year. Sydney book retailer Jon Page
noted an upward surge in sales in the final quarter leading up to Christmas, a period that accounts for

sales increase since 2009. (Han, 2015).
Some of the downturns in printed book sales may be as a result of economic conditions which have
affected all retailers. According to Page, (n.d.) the global financial crisis has dramatically changed

However, when Casey increased the agency s covert operations against the Marxist Sandinista

concern of the CIA involvement in Central America. Hence, in 1982 it passed Boland amendment
prohibiting the agency from aiding the contras. , Casey continued to find ways to evade the
amendment (Encyclopedia of World Biography, 2010).
On January 7, 1984 and February 29, 1984, the CIA mined several harbors in Nicaragua. Later, during

To this day, the exact role of President Reagan in the Iran Contra scandal is unclear. However, it
appears that in July 1985, in a strategic attempt to build relationship with some moderate elements
within Iran s regime, and to secure the release of seven American hostages held by Iranian backed
Shiite extremists in Lebanon, Reagan ordered an operation to sell arms to Iran, which violated the
U.S. arms sales embargo against Iran s regime. Congressional committees that later investigated the
Iran Contra affair concluded that the shredding of the documents and the death of Casey, left the
record incomplete.
It appears that due to Congress s oversight on the CIA s covert operations, initially, the agency was not
officially involved in the affair. Casey later testified to Congress that he was unaware of all the details
and the agency only had a supporting role (Encyclopedia of World Biography, 2010). Nevertheless,
Casey was viewed as a central figure in the agency s involvement in the affair. From August 1985 to

Essay Impact of Stalanism on the Soviet State
The concept of Stalinism, being the ideologies and policies adopted by Stalin, including centralization,
totalitarianism and communism, impacted, to an extent, on the soviet state until 1941. After competing
with prominent Bolshevik party members Stalin emerged as the sole leader of the party in 1929. From
this moment, Stalinism pervaded every level of society. Despite the hindrance caused by the
bureaucracy, the impact of Stalinism was achieved through the implementation of collectivization and
the 5 year plans, Stalin s Political domination and Cultural influence, including the Cult of the
Personality . This therefore depicts the influence of Stalinism over the Soviet State in the period up to

The 3 5 year plans focused on heavy industry, as well as an emphasis on electricity, coal, oil and steel.
The latter sections of industry greatly increased including coal (million tons) rising to 128 in 1937.
Although during this time period, famine and forced labour occured, the 5 year plans were a success.
Through the implementation of Collectivization and the 5 year plans, it can be seen how Stalinism
impacted upon the economy, and thus the Soviet State. Although collectivization and the 5 year plans
were a success, Stalinism faced its primary negative impact through these polices; the Bureaucracy.
This is a system of government in which lesser members of political parties make most of the
important decisions or control the happenings of the state. The peasants were the ones carrying out
Stalin s policies; however, they were working for nothing, which resulted in quotas not being met,
forcing the Bolshevik in charge of that sector to lie. Plans were developed to try and contain the
bureaucracy. Alexei Stakhanov allegedly cut 16 times the normal amount of coal in one shift. Stalin
and the government used this to provide ideological incentive for the workers, thus inventing the
Stakhanovites . Despite this however, the bureaucracy was to remain, serving as the foremost negative
impact to Stalinism. Stalin s unquestionable dominance over the Bolshevik party and their actions

Ford Motor Company s First Experimental Car
INTRODUCTION
A. Corporate Background
Ford Motor Company, American automotive corporation founded in 1903 by Henry Ford and 11
associate investors. Henry Ford built his first experimental car (Quadricycle) in a workshop behind his
home in Detroit in 1896. After formation of the Ford Motor Company, the first Ford car (model A)
was assembled in July 1903. By October 1 of the same year, Ford Motor Company turned profit of
$37,000. Five years later, in 1908, the highly successful Model T was introduced. Demand for this car
was so great that Ford developed new mass production methods in order to manufacture it in sufficient
quantities. In 1913, he introduced the world s first moving assembly line for cars; and in 1914, to
further improve labor productivity, he introduced the $5 daily wage for an eight hour day (replacing
$2.34 for a nine hour day). In 1919, the company was reincorporated, with Ford, his wife, Clara, and
his son, Edsel, acquiring full ownership. They, their heirs, and the Ford Foundation (formed 1936)
were sole stockholders until January 1956, when public sale of the common stock was first offered.
The company s first international sales branch opened in Paris in 1908. By mid 1914 there were more
than 500,000 Model Ts on the roads of the world; by 1923 the company was producing more than half
of America s automobiles; and, by the end of the 1920s, Ford had more than 20 overseas assembly
plants in Europe, Latin America, Canada, Asia, South Africa, and Australia.

Viviparity In To Kill A Mockingbird
Introduction
Viviparity (live birth) is a highly uncommon form of reproduction in the insect world, those that do
have this type of reproduction fall into two main groups: those who have a high offspring rates and
those who have low offspring rates. Viviparity, while uncommon, does serve a distinct purpose. In
some cases the insect has very few ovarioles to begin with, in which case, it is essential for the
offspring to be given the best chances at survival they can get. Having the embryo safely protected

Ovoviviparity is a type of viviparity where the developing embryos are carried in a pouch or an
outgrowth of genital ducts and is most commonly known in the cockroach families (Huffaker, 1999, p.
149). This type of viviparity is less taxing on the female since the developing young are not directly
sustaining themselves off her body as they do in true viviparity. Aphids on the other hand use a strange
method known as telescoping generations . The term telescoping generations , according to Capinera
(2008), refers to the fact that a mother can have in her ovarioles developing embryos which in turn
also contain embryos or future granddaughters (p. 195). This is an advantage since as soon as they
become adults they are able to reproduce immediately due to the fact that they already had developing
embryos in them (Capinera, 2008, p.1104). While viviparity commonly has a low reproductive rate
there are such insects, like cockroaches and aphids, which are able to use this form of reproduction to
their advantage to produce higher numbers of

Stereotypes In The Year 2000
Low cut jeans, halter tops, Von Dutch hats, and velour Juicy Couture tracksuits. Ed Hardy shirts, fake
Louis Vuitton handbags, and neckties as necklaces. Flare pants, chunky highlights, rhinestones, and
Baby Phat phone cases. Welcome to the year 2000. I bet many of you readers just got flashbacks. I
also bet many of you cringed and/or gasped in horror at said flashbacks. It s not an uncommon
reaction. Our own Andrea Klick summed it up when I told her my idea for this column: 2000s style is
disgusting! Indeed, most people would love to forget the aesthetic of this particular decade. The
transition from the oft lauded 90s to the big, fat, futuristic Y2K created a culture dominated by
Myspace, MTV, and Paris Hilton, with Kim Kardashian following her like a spray tanned, bag toting
lapdog. Call the decade too recent or call it too horrible; either way, a 2000s style revival is an idea oft
dismissed. We ve kept the early aughts frozen in time, never to be thawed and let their Victoria s
Secret body spray scented charms flow back into the mainstream. Until now. The first inklings of the
2000s revival popped up in 2015, most notably an online article from Vogue titled The Year in
Fashion: Are You Ready for the Second Coming of Early Aughts Style? . From there came more
articles, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Intersectionality And Morality
Intersectionality is a relevant theory for some gay, lesbian or bisexual individuals. Intersectionality
studies the relationships among multiple dimensions and modalities of social relationships and subject
formations (McCall, 2005). The theory argues, pursues and considers how gender, race, sexual
orientation and other categories of identity interact on many and often concurring levels of social
relationships, therefore allowing discrimination and social inequity. Intersectionality explains how the
notion of social injustice, such as racism, sexism, homophobia, and belief based bigotry such as
religion are not independent of one another; instead, they are interconnected, and thereby reflect
intersectionality in regards to social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every day in the United States, a young person, under the age of eighteen faces homelessness, and
most often it s because of others. In a report by The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, it was
noted that 26% of LGBTQ youth were kicked out of their homes when they came out (Ray, 2006).
The Urban Justice League reports numbers as high as 78% of LGBTQ youth that were removed from
or left their foster care placements because they were un welcoming or hostile towards their sexual
orientation and/or gender identity (Feinstein, Greenblatt, Hass, Kohn, Rana, 2001). The United States
is an independent, individualistic country; we prize the freedom of expression, but do we really? One
of the most significant, if not the most important, social structures is the family. Gay, lesbian and
bisexual individuals who are aware of their sexuality, must create an alternative self to present to
family and friends, especially if there is an understanding, verbalized or implicit, that homosexuality is
not tolerated, or simply wrong. Many gay, lesbian and bisexual men and women would rather go with
the flow, assimilate, not make waves, rather than to express their own gay identity, and risk ostracism.
When race is factored into the equation of homosexuality, it becomes more complicated. Taking a look
at Black and Latino cultures over the past ten to twenty years, there was an emergence of

The Vaccine Against Cowpox Also Gave Protection Against...
In 1796, Edward Jenner showed the world that the vaccine against cowpox also gave protection
against the smallpox disease. Ever since Jenner s discovery, the main principles of vaccines has gained
more acceptance through the years of practice. In 1816, 20 years after Edward Jenner s discovery,
Sweden would create a compulsory vaccine for smallpox, which will eradicate the disease in many
countries (Ortqvist et al). By noticing the long lasting effects of vaccinations in people, one can
understand the importance of a well informed society. Acta Paediatrica, a peer review medical journal
organization, noted, The body hosts many microorganisms, including bacteria and viruses that live

However, 100 children out of the one million were diagnosed with a rare side effect in which a section
of the small intestine would fold into another section called intussusceptions. Tetanus is a very serious
bacterial infection that has become extremely rare in the United States. If one develops the infection,
he or she is still recommended to take the vaccination. The reason for it is due to the toxin made by
the disease that would affect the immune system in the long run. Hib, HPV, and pneumococcal
vaccines all help to improve the immune response better than natural infection (Holland). Certain
vaccines are highly recommended but sometimes they are not fully covered, leaving children suffering
from possible diseases that are preventable such as: smallpox, chickenpox, measles, hepatitis B, and
many more. Moreover, being covered is not the only problem. The shortage of childhood vaccines,
especially in the United States, are due to the lack of manufacturing capacity, lack of accurate data,
and lack of communication. Between December 2007 and September 2009, the United States had a
lack of Hib vaccines, leaving a high number of children at the risk of infection (Esposito et al). In
1989, a measles epidemic infected more than 18,000 people and killed 41 children in the U.S.. The
outbreak occurred due to extremely low immunization rates. Jon Cohen, a physician executive

Essay on The Evolution of the Art of War between 1400 and...
It can be said that the period of time between 1400 and 1600 was one of transformation. The
Renaissance revolutionized art and reintroduced Greek and Roman works to Europe. Increased
technologies and a hunger for products from the Indies led to Columbus s discovery of the Americas
in 1492 which revolutionized commerce and international trade. In 1517 a German monk named
Martin Luther listed a series of complaints against the Roman church leading to a reformation that
transformed the western church. At the same time a more obscure, though equally important
revolution was taking place, one whose effects were no less significant. The invasion of Italy by
Charles the VII of France in 1494 is considered the beginning of the age of gunpowder ... Show more

The first area of significant area of change during the fifteenth century was that of field combat. The
armies of the medieval era were built around heavy armored cavalry, especially the knight. During this
time the development of infantry was largely ignored in favor of the more heavily armored cavalry,
and as a result foot soldiers were generally ineffective in combat. Infantry in this period generally
consisted of poorly trained and equipped peasants. Though reasonably effective the reliance on
cavalry had several drawbacks, most notably the cost. In order for a knight to be effective he required
the latest armor and a horse capable of supporting both the armored knight and carrying its own armor
while still being mobile enough to function in battle. Knights also required training which took both
time and money. Because the cavalry consisted mostly of knights who were part of the nobility, they
were often reluctant to fight, creating difficulties in raising armies of sufficient size when the need
arose. Another noteworthy problem with the knights was that their primary tactic of charging the
enemy lines often made it easy to led them into traps. At the battle of El Mansura during the Seventh
Crusade, retreating Muslim forces lured a group of overly eager French

Examples Of High-Class Conflict In The Great Gatsby
The cynosures of the 1920s were people in the high class society . They had abundant amounts of
money, as well as bragging rights to do as they please. One of the most prominent themes in The Great
Gatsby is the social class conflicts in the 1920s. F. Scott Fitzgerald portrays this through rich versus
poor conflicts, as well as through Old Money versus New Money conflicts. In this novel, rich are
treated significantly different from the poor. The first time the reader really sees this conflict is when
Daisy makes fun of their butler. As if spreading gossip, Daisy bluntly asks, Do you want to hear about
the butler (Fitzgerald pg17)? She then goes on to explain that he can not smell because of his old job,
which was for lower class people. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tom is a rich man who lives in East Egg, whereas George is a poor man who lives at a gas station in
the Valley of Ashes. Since the rich only marry rich, and Gatsby was not available at the time, Daisy
Buchanan marries Tom and keeps her title as a rich individual. On the other end of things Myrtle
Wilson, who lives in the Valley of Ashes hates her life at the gas station , and wants more for her life
than a man who only faked his wealth to be with her (Sam January 17, 2013). Because of this mishap,
Myrtle strives to be with the prosperous Tom Buchanan throughout the book, but no man would step
down in class just to be with a woman at the social status that Myrtle is at. As a result of the social
status difference, Myrtle has no right to speak about Daisy because she is so far below her. This issue
becomes present at the end of chapter 3 when Myrtle, out of spite and ignorance, begins to shout
Daisy s name. Tom is the most dominant character throughout the novel, and with one swift upward
motion broke her nose with his open hand (Fitzgerald pg41). Tom believes his actions were acceptable
because Myrtle was speaking out of place. This example shows the extreme actions taken against
someone of a different class, and just how regular it really was to treat them a completely different

Their Eyes Were Watching God Essay
I enjoyed Their Eyes Were Watching God s grasp on imagination, imagery and phrasing. Janie s
dialogue and vernacular managed to carry me along, slipping pieces of wisdom to me in such a
manner that I hardly realize they are ingesting something deep and true. Their Eyes Were Watching
God recognizes that there are problems to the human condition, such as the need to possess, the fear of
the unknown and resulting stagnation. The book does not leave us with the hopelessness of Fitzgerald
or Hemingway, rather, it extends a recognition and understanding of humanity s need to escape
emptiness. quot;Dem meatskins is got tuh rattle tuh make out they s alive (183) quot; Her solution is

bought her things because he was ownership oriented. Throughout his life, he shows both the first
flush of luxury and the futility and bypassing of what is truly important that upward mobility brings.
All in all, wealth does not bring happiness, and Janie shares that sad realization with Fitzgerald s Dick
Diver. The suppression of Janie, both as a woman and a human, is Jody s most interesting facet. He
sets a limit on her self fulfillment, treating her more like an object than a woman. Of course, he lumps
women in with mere things quot;Somebody got to think for women and chilun and chickens and cows

echoed in his behavior towards the overworked mule he buys and sets free: he lets the mule loose to

Practice Safe Text Essay
As a result of millions of injuries and deaths among the people of our country, cell phone use, and
more specifically texting while driving, has become a big issue. Since texting and driving is a big
issue, there are active and upcoming ways to stop it. Throughout the recent years, there have been
hundreds of campaigns as well as ads on television, and in magazines to convince people to stop the
use of cell phones while driving. Technology in cars is also being built to address the issue of texting
and driving behind the wheel. There needs to be steps taken to address the rising number of cell phone

The majority of people who text and drive are not aware of the consequences that follow their actions.
States and counties throughout the US are enforcing distracted driving laws that ban texting while
driving. Careless and reckless driving can lead to driving charges, giving every driver a reason to stay
off their phones. 5 potential consequences of texting while driving behind the wheel are tickets,
getting points on driver s license, insurance penalties, criminal charges, and the feeling of guilt. Are
people willing to give up their freedom, finances, and desolate their own conscience? Throughout the
recent years, there have been hundreds of campaigns as well as ads on television, and in magazines to
convince people to stop the use of cell phones while driving. For example, AT T is most well known
for their advertisements against texting and driving. Since texting and driving is a big issue, there are
active and upcoming ways to stop it. A very popular campaign advertised by celebrities is the It Can
Wait pledge. This campaigns motto simply is No text is worth the risk, it can wait. Many commercials
show Public Service Announcements, about celebrities showing the risk of texting while driving and
even some of their own personal experiences with the issue. In addition, technology in cars is also

Images of Love in Chaucer s Troilus and Criseyde Essay...
Images of Love in Chaucer s Troilus and Criseyde
The image of love created by Chaucer in Book I of Troilus and Criseyde is one which elicits pity
rather than admiration. Yet, the poet professes to serve and celebrate the God of Love. Is the
superficially motivated but all consuming passion sparked in Troilus meant to serve as a warning to
other lovers or a model? With the presence of several narrative interjections by the poet himself
suggesting a method of interpretation, clearly some emphasis is placed upon an audience s ability to
learn from The double sorwe of Troilus (1). As a cautionary tale, though, perhaps Chaucer attempts to
describe the paradoxes seemingly inseparable from the very concept of love itself, rather ... Show

...every other charge he set at nought (444). Ironically, Troilus, who once mocked other lovers, falls
victim to (is humbled by) the curse or illness of love. Like the other classical and legendary examples
Chaucer provides in Phebus Apollo and Paris, the love which plagues Troilus is described as a
compulsion, a force which is virtually impossible to resist. Troilus often uses the word burning to
describe his passion, likening his love to a fire which, once sparked, will rage out of his control. The
anguish from this unrequited but constant fire brings Troilus to contemplate and even wish for death
as a release. Though Pandarus offers his advice and promises Troilus a happy resolution, the seeds of
the tragedy to come seem to be sewn into this self destructive notion of love.
Rather than presenting love as a unified concept or code of behavior to be imitated, Chaucer
understands well that love is capable of housing contradictory, even radically opposed, ideas. For
thilke grownd that bereth weeds wikke/ Bereth eh thise holsom herbes... (946 7). Perhaps it is a sense
of this underlying paradox which Chaucer hopes to convey to his audience. Perhaps, further, he hopes
to suggest that the social conventions surrounding love in his era help to create the dangerous form of
love seen in Troilus. Questions, though not necessarily these ones, are encouraged by the poem itself.
Troilus questions love, Pandarus

Social Order And Power Research Paper
Social order can t be maintained without power. It is always preserved and formed on power. There
are numerous one of a kind methods for power to be assigned, of course, and there is a correlation to
the level of improvement of the social contract. In a gadget, wherein the most ruthless and immoral
individual profits and keeps power without a threatened penalty or acceptance, there can be a very
terrific deal of social order until someone stronger and very cruel adjust all the policies. We recognize
or deny, give, or reject, each person s power over us in every context. By ourselves, we can deliver
power to another person; if we are quipped to accept any poor consequence there s little that may be

I am in my mid thirties and going back to school. I would have to say that my children are the primary

life that I still couldn t go back to school. One day, I decided to apply for a job on the third shift
because I needed the extra money and it would be convenient for my kids and I. Working at Atria in
Portsmouth required me to tend to elderly people. The most important thing to me is caring for the
residence. I enjoyed working there so much and it made me think that I could go back to school to
become a CNA, or even become a nurse. During the summer of 2012, I thought, What am I doing with
my life? I was cleaning houses and taking care of the elderly. I suddenly realized that my girls were
older and my son was in kindergarten; it s the perfect opportunity for me to accomplish my dream. So,
I figured out my schedule so I would have plenty of time for work, school and my two youngest
children. Finally, I thought to myself that I can go to school, get a degree, and maybe take my kids on
vacation. Advice from one single mom to another single mom anything is possible if you have the

  • 2. Arguments Of Alcatraz Do you know that out of all of the most dangerous occupants of Alcatraz only 3 have succeeded in breaking out? Those three were Frank Morris, Clarence Anglin, and John Anglin. They escaped, but no one knows if they survived. They survived after breaking out of Alcatraz. There is evidence that the currents could have helped them, they were pretty prepared, and people have seen them. First of all, the currents could have helped them get to land after getting off of Alcatraz Island. The MythBusters proved that you don t have to go against the current. All the runaways had to do was paddle away from the island and the current would pull them and their raft to the mainland. The MythBusters video also said that Frank Morris had an IQ of 133. That ... MANAGING BEHAVIOURS IN THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT TETA : 1029 TASK 1 Case Study IMPROVING STUDENT LEARNING BEHAVIOUR Case Brief The case I would like to address in this assignment is based on one of my 2009/2010 NC classes in the afternoon. Despite the initial group discussion on expected behaviour, this group was demonstrating a whole host of disruptive behaviours. This group also included a special needs student, who was being supported by a Learning Support Assistant, whom I assumed had been briefed on the needs. The observed disruptive behaviour included the following: Arriving late Listening to iPoD Persistent talking Throwing objects Derogatory remarks Withdrawn attitude of a few The ... Proposed Ways to Improve Behaviour (1000 words) One can argue that the potential to cause disruptive behaviour from the perspective of a student or a group of students does not automatically result in disruptive or troublesome behaviour. Such behaviour can be kept dormant, controlled, neutralised or changed over a period of time.
  • 4. Keeping troublesome/disruptive behaviour dormant is not the ideal solution and although it has its short term benefits, it may adversely affect the rapport between teacher and learners not a good start. Abatement, enhancing or changing disruptive behaviour requires certain skills and so it is hoped that by addressing the pre requisite, specifying an appropriate methodology, identification, and selection of appropriate techniques a logical flow to this section is established. • 5. Technology And Civil Practices Of The Middle Eastern... War is defined by the Webster dictionary as a state of usually open and declared armed hostile conflict between states or nations , this definition does not apply to the current war in Afghanistan. This war has been one of the most controversial wars in United States history, with one of the biggest issues being how Afghanistan is being effected since it is not a part of the war as much as a platform where it is taking place. For all the confusion, destruction, and loss during a war there is a bright side in the unification and advancement of both technology and civil practices. This war has been no different in the fact that technology has advanced exponentially, and the world has begun to truly understand the customs and practices of the Middle Eastern States. The improvement of technology has allowed the building of better agricultural equipment, which has in turn given rise to better agricultural practices. Another thing that has changed both with a change in personnel and a change in policies is the government of Afghanistan. The main driving force for the change being seen is by the young people of Afghanistan who want the culture to evolve in a more global manor. When all of these changes are looked at as a whole instead of individually there is a clear trends that shows the growing economy of Afghanistan increasing at the highest rate in 100 years. My uncle was the first person to attend a college. This was the person that embed the idea that I will be following in the footsteps and attend college. My parents at that time did not really push me they were focused on making sure there was food on the table. Also during my middle school year he was the main advocate for me to attend Verbum Dei High School instead of following my cousin and attending Serra High School. Thanks to the passing of the California Dream Act my uncle now attends the University of California Los Angeles. It was a topical November day. I was in the beginning of eight grade year. I was looking thru my Facebook newsfeed and I see a picture of my Uncle sitting down in the middle of the State Capitol in Montgomery Alabama. Well reading this post he said I am willing to go to jail for what I believe in . I remember reflecting on this. His action really motivated me and still motivated me to this day. It made me think of the Civil Right Movement of the 1960 s and how if you speak your mind it can make a difference. He sat there in the middle of the Capitol since it open till he was forcibly removed by the Capitol Police and arrested. He was willing to face deportation for a cause. I feel that if I attend this trip I can make a different. There two ways to make a different in this country protest or lobbying for it. If I would attend I would want to talk to a republican Congressman from California. • 7. The Amusement Park Six Flags New England The legendary amusement park Six Flags New England is situated in Western Massachusetts in the city of Agawam, Massachusetts, and has been running since 1870. During this time, it was originally an ordinary picnic with a cluster of trees named Gallup s Grove. Subsequently, the park replaced its name with Riverside, and has had its name of Riverside for the majority of the entire period of the 1900s. One famous event, known as The 1929 Wall Street Crash, then had an unfortunate effect on the amusement park, and as a result, the amusement park shut down in 1939 after countless efforts to reestablish the amusement park. After the Wall Street Crash, Edward Carroll Senior made history when made an investment and paid for the amusement park, and developed the amusement park into a notable success in New England. After a century of the amusement park being known as Riverside, it then changed its name to Six Flags New England in 2000. • 8. The Controversial Topic of Genetic Testing Genetic testing has become a highly controversial issue among both the general population and the scientific community. It is a process that exposes a person s entire genome sequence, allowing it to be read and evaluated to identify potential risks for genetic diseases or diseases that could be passed onto offspring (Holt Productions, 2012). With thousands of genetic tests already being used, and more being established, it seems logical to put this growing technology to use. Some agree that it is a person s right to know and understand his or her genetic makeup. However, others argue that, despite the benefits of genetic testing, caution should be used to carefully inspect the risks associated with this new technology. Relatively simple ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Embryonic screening allows for the elimination of inherited diseases before birth or a treatment plan before birth. In breast cancer patients, genetic testing allows the physician to know if chemotherapy is necessary, which would expand treatment options. Genetic testing could eliminate years of experimental testing and medication use used to diagnose a new disease. Overall, genetic testing is in alignment with the core medical philosophy that early prevention leads to early treatment, which leads to an overall better outcome for the patient. The opposing side argues, however, that society is not ready for this technology. People may not be capable of handling the emotional or psychological stress associated with genetic testing. Results may vary between genetic testing companies and many variables, such as sampling errors, could lead to a false positive or false negative test. Further, it is possible that some people may interpret the seriousness or implications of their results incorrectly. This could result in people making unnecessary, and even dangerous, lifestyle changes. For example, if a person is told that he or she has a 60% of being diagnosed with breast cancer, that person may undergo preventative surgery to avoid the disease; however, such surgery may have been unnecessary, as the person may never have developed the disease. Additionally, as the popularity of genetic testing increases, some fear that a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Antibiotics involve chemical substances, either of natural or synthetic origins, that destroy pathogenic microorganisms with minimal damage to host tissues. These chemotherapeutic agents combat various diseases by affecting different targets in eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells. Antibiotics work through several mechanisms of action to combat target pathogens: (1) inhibition of cell wall synthesis; (2) inhibition of protein synthesis; (3) injury to the plasma membrane; (4) inhibition of nucleic acid synthesis; and (5) competitive inhibition of the synthesis of essential metabolites. Despite the availability of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The evolutionary development of these superbugs can be attributed to the global misuse of antimicrobial agents. The overpopularity and distribution of antibiotics being sold without prescription to treat minor symptoms including headaches have promoted resistance growth. In addition, continual consumption and longer dose regimens of outdated, adulterated, and even counterfeit antibiotics are common. These factors have collectively contributed to the development of antimicrobial resistance. And hence, new antibiotics need to be produced as potential agents to address these pathogens. Many antibiotics incorporate chemical substances of natural origins. Various members of the Streptomyces genus, which account for over two thirds of clinically used antibiotic treatments, are soil microorganisms. This is just one out of countless microorganisms that are present in the soil that can potentially have antimicrobial properties just waiting to be discovered. The topic typically focuses on the evolutionary trajectory of primates, which over the course of millions of years, has lead to the appearance of anatomically modern humans. As you can imagine, piecing together beyond ancient history, involves the combined prowess of many scientific disciplines, and once in a while, a curveball may confuse even the most methodical anthropologists. Other times, a rare ah ha! moment is encountered, which can shed light on the complex timeline of Homo Sapiens. Horse slaughter is more of an implicit subject, which your everyday person doesn t know much about. Because it is highly controversial, it has gone through the cycle of being banded and then reinstated twice in the last 5 years. With being involved in the horse industry my entire life, I have witnessed the effects first hand. Some people see it as killing pets, animal cruelty, and morally wrong. The history of people eating horse meat dates back to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the 1930 s low supply and high cost of pork and beef made horse meat rise in popularity. Again during World War II, people were again in the same predicament. Inflation during the early 1970 s raised the cost of traditional meats; Time Magazine reported from Carlson s, a butcher shop in Westbrook, CT, that they were selling over 6,000 pounds of horse meat a day. (Weil) In 2006, the House of Representatives voted to end horse slaughter; the bill passed to make the killing and selling American horses for human consumption an illegal practice in the United States. Today in the US, people do not consume horse meat on a whole sale basis. But because many other counties do, the exporting of horse meat is a huge industry. When the ban was in place, US horses were being transported to Canada and Mexico to be slaughtered instead. From 2006 to 2010 the increase in horses being exported to Canada and Mexico was 148 and 660 percent. They are loaded up on trailers and shipped across the boarders, often times going days without food or water until they reach their destination. (Scrimgeour et al., 2015, p.3) The average age of the children who participated were 50 months of age. Approximately one half of the families were single parent families, more than a third of the families had 3 or more children and nearly six out of ten responded having education less than ninth grade. The data collection for the experiment was done in two parts, Time one before or during the intervention, and Time two after the intervention. Two researchers assisted in meeting with each of the families, one met with the parents and made observations and an interview. While the other used assessment tools with the children. The results showed a strong correlation in both Time one and two with low parental stress, and low child abuse potential for socioemotional development. The last variable however good quality of home environment, only correlated with Time one. Cognitive/language development had a positive correlation in both Time one and two. (Scrimgeour et al., 2015, p.6) The study did a great job in showing potential correlations in households where children might be at risk for hindered development. It is unknown how applicable the results since the ethnic demographic wasn t given and might influence the results through cultural differences, As a whole though it seems reliable. • 18. Poem Analysis On His Coy Mistress By Andrew Marvell Andrew Marvell wrote a unique love poem in To His Coy Mistress, as this poem expresses far more than one might expect or even perceive upon the first reading. Enveloped in this ode to a cherished muse are expressions of the carpe diem philosophy, laments about the impending doom of death, and hopes to transcend contemporary abilities to live forever in the love of another. While Marvell s primary purpose in writing this piece may have been to woo a young maiden, he made a far more significant contribution to the era s literary culture in the process. Marvell most directly addressed To His Coy Mistress to a woman he intended to court, as he spends a majority of the piece lamenting that he didn t have time sufficient to praise her features. In the opening stanza, Marvell states that, Had we but world enough, and time.... An hundred years should go yo praise.... An age at least to every part, / And the last age should show your heart (Marvell 1 18). While Marvell ones not directly praise or describe his muse in any way, he does emphasize how extraordinarily praiseworthy she be, and this idea forms the basis for the philosophical wonderings and realizations that comprised the following stanzas. Thus, Marvell addressed his poem at a potential lover for the purpose of courting her on an unknown occasion, but the real significance of the poem lies in the later ideas he presented to fulfill this purpose. In his second stanza, Marvell takes a drastic turn from the romantic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This was completely correct and gives an understanding to why Irving made him the main character in the first place. The reader gets to see into Johnny s thought and sees the book through that singular perspective, but Irving states that he has none. The island is at 1°52 23.40 N and 157°19 6.69 W and spans 717 square kilometers of land. On this land there were volcanoes but after some time they got eroded away. In this report I will prove that there was a volcano on the island and I will do so by stating how the plants, climate, location and animals prove that there was a volcano. Plants There are very few native plants on the island. The only plants that are on the island are breadfruit trees, pandanus trees, pawpaw trees, coconut trees, babai(a type of taro root), mosses and mangrove trees. There are also yams lemons, and sugarcane as non tree plants. • 28. Description Of An Electrocardiogram, Or Ecg Or Ekg Introduction An Electrocardiogram, or ECG or EKG, is a recording of the hearts electrical activity as a graph over a period of time, as detected by electrodes attached to the outer surface of the skin and recorded by a device external of the body (Boundless). The graph of an ECG can identify various things initiated by the heart, such as its rate, rhythm, a decrease in blood flow, and a possible enlargement. For a healthy individual, a typical ECG shows the whole cardiac cycle or heart beat which includes a P wave (Atrial depolarization), a QRS complex (Ventricular depolarization), and a T wave (Ventricular repolarization). The ECG s first spike or P wave is triggered by the Sinoatrial node (SA node), which is also known as the pacemaker and the electrical impulse from the atria to the ventricles is conducted by the atrioventricular node (AV node). During each heart beat the heart muscle depolarizes, this is detected on the skin where the ECG electrodes are placed by the machine and then translated into a linear representation (Boundless). The resting membrane potential of a heart cell is 60mv, when an influx of positive ions enter the cell (NA+ and CA++) depolarization takes place causing the heart to contract. This action takes place during the peak of the P wave (Atria systole). The QRS complex represent when the left and right ventricles contract and depolarize, also called ventricular systole. This action normally takes place at the highest amplitude in the complex, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By definition, a crime scene is a scene or place where an offence has been committed, and the site where forensic evidence is to be gathered in the pursuit of investigating the offence (Fisher, 2012, p.10). Fisher goes on to clarify that a crime scene may refer to a physical place that may provide potential evidence to an investigator. This is not limited to a location but rather may include a include a person s body, any type of building, vehicles, places in the open air or objects found at those locations. Fisher elaborates; explaining how hoth forensic and scientific techniques are used in order to preserve and obtain evidence of crime at the crime scene. (Fisher, 2012, p. 13). Lee and Palmbach (2001) point out that the processes involved in examining a crime scene does not need to be sophisticated or elaborate; instead, investigators need to concern themselves with adhering to the fundamental principles and procedures within crime scene investigation. It is important to remember that there is not a comprehensive plan or sole guiding principle when it comes to processing crime scenes (Pepper, 2010, p. 101). However, it appears that in July 1985, in a strategic attempt to build relationship with some moderate elements within Iran s regime, and to secure the release of seven American hostages held by Iranian backed Shiite extremists in Lebanon, Reagan ordered an operation to sell arms to Iran, which violated the U.S. arms sales embargo against Iran s regime. Congressional committees that later investigated the Iran Contra affair concluded that the shredding of the documents and the death of Casey, left the record incomplete. It appears that due to Congress s oversight on the CIA s covert operations, initially, the agency was not officially involved in the affair. Casey later testified to Congress that he was unaware of all the details and the agency only had a supporting role (Encyclopedia of World Biography, 2010). Nevertheless, Casey was viewed as a central figure in the agency s involvement in the affair. From August 1985 to October 1986, seven arms shipments were sent using Israeli and CIA planes. Remedial Costs Are Too High For Csu At Bear San Jose Mercury News Editorial, authors of Remedial costs are too high for CSU to bear highlight the San Jose State University policy that took place in 2009. The policy is about Freshmen students who are required to take remedial classes since their math or English basic college level aren t good enough. To notice these students that need help ahead of time CSU created the Early Assessment Program . Even though CSU created the voluntary Early Assessment Program, which has an essay and two dozen questions that are included in standardized tests given to juniors, many students didn t pass it. Those students who don t take the Early Assessment Program or aren t qualified will have to take online tutorials and remedial classes which take a year to study. Sadly, there ll be no repeat chances for those students who don t pass their remedial courses. They may have to hire tutors or take courses off campus to gain the basic knowledge they should have received in high school, as the authors said. The author assume that it s both students and their high school s responsibility for college readiness, and I strongly agree with the authors aurgement. College readiness shouldn t be CSU. • 40. Essay Impact of Stalanism on the Soviet State The concept of Stalinism, being the ideologies and policies adopted by Stalin, including centralization, totalitarianism and communism, impacted, to an extent, on the soviet state until 1941. After competing with prominent Bolshevik party members Stalin emerged as the sole leader of the party in 1929. From this moment, Stalinism pervaded every level of society. Despite the hindrance caused by the bureaucracy, the impact of Stalinism was achieved through the implementation of collectivization and the 5 year plans, Stalin s Political domination and Cultural influence, including the Cult of the Personality . This therefore depicts the influence of Stalinism over the Soviet State in the period up to 1941. In the period before 1941, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through the implementation of Collectivization and the 5 year plans, it can be seen how Stalinism impacted upon the economy, and thus the Soviet State. Although collectivization and the 5 year plans were a success, Stalinism faced its primary negative impact through these polices; the Bureaucracy. This is a system of government in which lesser members of political parties make most of the important decisions or control the happenings of the state. The peasants were the ones carrying out Stalin s policies; however, they were working for nothing, which resulted in quotas not being met, forcing the Bolshevik in charge of that sector to lie. Plans were developed to try and contain the bureaucracy. Alexei Stakhanov allegedly cut 16 times the normal amount of coal in one shift. Stalin and the government used this to provide ideological incentive for the workers, thus inventing the Stakhanovites . Despite this however, the bureaucracy was to remain, serving as the foremost negative impact to Stalinism. Henry Ford built his first experimental car (Quadricycle) in a workshop behind his home in Detroit in 1896. After formation of the Ford Motor Company, the first Ford car (model A) was assembled in July 1903. By October 1 of the same year, Ford Motor Company turned profit of $37,000. Five years later, in 1908, the highly successful Model T was introduced. Demand for this car was so great that Ford developed new mass production methods in order to manufacture it in sufficient quantities. In 1913, he introduced the world s first moving assembly line for cars; and in 1914, to further improve labor productivity, he introduced the $5 daily wage for an eight hour day (replacing $2.34 for a nine hour day). In 1919, the company was reincorporated, with Ford, his wife, Clara, and his son, Edsel, acquiring full ownership. They, their heirs, and the Ford Foundation (formed 1936) were sole stockholders until January 1956, when public sale of the common stock was first offered. The company s first international sales branch opened in Paris in 1908. By mid 1914 there were more than 500,000 Model Ts on the roads of the world; by 1923 the company was producing more than half of America s automobiles; and, by the end of the 1920s, Ford had more than 20 overseas assembly plants in Europe, Latin America, Canada, Asia, South Africa, and Australia. ... Viviparity In To Kill A Mockingbird Introduction Viviparity (live birth) is a highly uncommon form of reproduction in the insect world, those that do have this type of reproduction fall into two main groups: those who have a high offspring rates and those who have low offspring rates. Viviparity, while uncommon, does serve a distinct purpose. In some cases the insect has very few ovarioles to begin with, in which case, it is essential for the offspring to be given the best chances at survival they can get. Having the embryo safely protected inside the insect while it develops gives the young insect a far better survival rate than those who are deposited in eggs outside the mother. Ovoviviparity is a type of viviparity where the developing embryos are carried in a pouch or an outgrowth of genital ducts and is most commonly known in the cockroach families (Huffaker, 1999, p. 149). This type of viviparity is less taxing on the female since the developing young are not directly sustaining themselves off her body as they do in true viviparity. Aphids on the other hand use a strange method known as telescoping generations . The term telescoping generations , according to Capinera (2008), refers to the fact that a mother can have in her ovarioles developing embryos which in turn also contain embryos or future granddaughters (p. 195). This is an advantage since as soon as they become adults they are able to reproduce immediately due to the fact that they already had developing embryos in them (Capinera, 2008, p.1104). While viviparity commonly has a low reproductive rate there are such insects, like cockroaches and aphids, which are able to use this form of reproduction to their advantage to produce higher numbers of ... Our own Andrea Klick summed it up when I told her my idea for this column: 2000s style is disgusting! Indeed, most people would love to forget the aesthetic of this particular decade. Intersectionality studies the relationships among multiple dimensions and modalities of social relationships and subject formations (McCall, 2005). One of the most significant, if not the most important, social structures is the family. Gay, lesbian and bisexual individuals who are aware of their sexuality, must create an alternative self to present to family and friends, especially if there is an understanding, verbalized or implicit, that homosexuality is not tolerated, or simply wrong. Many gay, lesbian and bisexual men and women would rather go with the flow, assimilate, not make waves, rather than to express their own gay identity, and risk ostracism. Tetanus is a very serious bacterial infection that has become extremely rare in the United States. If one develops the infection, he or she is still recommended to take the vaccination. The reason for it is due to the toxin made by the disease that would affect the immune system in the long run. Hib, HPV, and pneumococcal vaccines all help to improve the immune response better than natural infection (Holland). Certain vaccines are highly recommended but sometimes they are not fully covered, leaving children suffering from possible diseases that are preventable such as: smallpox, chickenpox, measles, hepatitis B, and many more. Moreover, being covered is not the only problem. The shortage of childhood vaccines, especially in the United States, are due to the lack of manufacturing capacity, lack of accurate data, and lack of communication. The Renaissance revolutionized art and reintroduced Greek and Roman works to Europe. Increased technologies and a hunger for products from the Indies led to Columbus s discovery of the Americas in 1492 which revolutionized commerce and international trade. In 1517 a German monk named Martin Luther listed a series of complaints against the Roman church leading to a reformation that transformed the western church. The first area of significant area of change during the fifteenth century was that of field combat. The armies of the medieval era were built around heavy armored cavalry, especially the knight. During this time the development of infantry was largely ignored in favor of the more heavily armored cavalry, and as a result foot soldiers were generally ineffective in combat. Infantry in this period generally consisted of poorly trained and equipped peasants. Though reasonably effective the reliance on cavalry had several drawbacks, most notably the cost. In order for a knight to be effective he required the latest armor and a horse capable of supporting both the armored knight and carrying its own armor while still being mobile enough to function in battle. Knights also required training which took both time and money. Because the cavalry consisted mostly of knights who were part of the nobility, they were often reluctant to fight, creating difficulties in raising armies of sufficient size when the need arose. Another noteworthy problem with the knights was that their primary tactic of charging the enemy lines often made it easy to led them into traps. They had abundant amounts of money, as well as bragging rights to do as they please. One of the most prominent themes in The Great Gatsby is the social class conflicts in the 1920s. F. Scott Fitzgerald portrays this through rich versus poor conflicts, as well as through Old Money versus New Money conflicts. In this novel, rich are treated significantly different from the poor. The first time the reader really sees this conflict is when Daisy makes fun of their butler. As if spreading gossip, Daisy bluntly asks, Do you want to hear about the butler (Fitzgerald pg17)? Images of Love in Chaucer s Troilus and Criseyde The image of love created by Chaucer in Book I of Troilus and Criseyde is one which elicits pity rather than admiration. Yet, the poet professes to serve and celebrate the God of Love. Is the superficially motivated but all consuming passion sparked in Troilus meant to serve as a warning to other lovers or a model? With the presence of several narrative interjections by the poet himself suggesting a method of interpretation, clearly some emphasis is placed upon an audience s ability to learn from The double sorwe of Troilus (1). Like the other classical and legendary examples Chaucer provides in Phebus Apollo and Paris, the love which plagues Troilus is described as a compulsion, a force which is virtually impossible to resist. Troilus often uses the word burning to describe his passion, likening his love to a fire which, once sparked, will rage out of his control. The anguish from this unrequited but constant fire brings Troilus to contemplate and even wish for death as a release. Though Pandarus offers his advice and promises Troilus a happy resolution, the seeds of the tragedy to come seem to be sewn into this self destructive notion of love. Rather than presenting love as a unified concept or code of behavior to be imitated, Chaucer understands well that love is capable of housing contradictory, even radically opposed, ideas.
