A Short Story Of The Scarlet Ibis By James Hurst
The Scarlet Ibis is a short story written by James Hurst and was published in July of 1960. This
tragedy is placed at the time of the civil war when a boy tells the story of his brother coming into this
world. His brother was born very small and unhealthy, leading his parents to think that he will not
survive for very long. But the aunt disagrees and the baby proves her right. Once the baby is three
months, the mother and father decide to name him William Armstrong. His mother tells the brother
that he is feedable but not all there , meaning that he isn t the typical boy that can run around and play.
Brother is enraged at the fact that he won t have a playmate and decides that he wants to suffocate
William until he sees the small infant give him a smile. The brother realizes that he isn t completely
gone.
As William ages to age two, he has learned to move about and crawl around. The doctors are afraid
that if he is physically active like this, it will damage his heart. Instead of crawling, the doctors want
him to scoot or crawl backward. With William Armstrong doing this, he earns the name Doodle ,
which is given to him by his older brother who feels that it is a much more fitting name. Doodle soon
learns how to talk and feels a strong brotherhood between his brother even though he receives tough
treatment from him. As Doodle becomes older, his brother decides that he does not want a brother
who cannot walk at his age because that was embarrassing to him. The thought

Terraria Vs Minecraft Research Paper
Minecraft and Terraria are top selling sandbox games that are slightly similar to each other, but since
their release, gamers have been arguing which one is better. Minecraft is better because of its
reliability, massive multiplayer system, and its ingenious difficulty and game modes. First of all,
Minecraft has infinite replayability, each world you create is randomly generated and infinite, leaving
so much to explore. In the game, you can also visit The Nether infested with Zombie pigmen and
Ghasts, The End home to the Enderdragon and Endermen, and another dimension which will be
released in the 1.9 update. Minecraft also has command blocks which, according to Jeb (lead creative

Four game modes can be chosen at the start of the game. They are Survival, Creative, Adventure, and
Hardcore. Survival is the main mode in Minecraft, it adds a health and hunger meter and players must
survive in a blocky world full of mobs (enemies). If you die in this mode, you will lose all your items
and experience and teleport back to the spawn. Creative removes the health and hunger bar and let s
the player fly and have unlimited blocks. Adventure is a mode commonly used on player submitted
maps, this prevents the player from breaking anything unless they have the right tool. Hardcore is
exactly like Survival, but when players die the world resets and the player has to start over. Survival,
Adventure, and Hardcore can have set difficulties. In Peaceful difficulty, no mobs will spawn and
players will not starve. In Easy difficulty, mobs will spawn and when a player starves, he or she will
lose half of their health. In Medium difficulty, mobs will be much stronger and when you starve you
will lose ¾ of your health. In Hard difficulty, mobs will be much stronger, much faster, and have more
health. Upon starving in the Hard difficulty you will slowly

Family Guy Is An American Sitcom
Texas Longhorns football fans often use a specific hand gesture when rooting for their team; by
holding up the fore and pinkie fingers while keeping the middle and ring fingers down, using the
thumb to hold the middle and ring fingers in position, they make bull horns. However, if a Longhorns
fan were to make this same gesture in Spain, it would be an offensive gesture that means to have sex
with someone else s wife. All people, and even animals, uses communication to transmit messages.
However, many factors can warp or change what the sender is trying to communicate. The Texas fan
intended to use the hand gesture as a positive message in support of a sports team, but due to the
difference in cultural identity, the receiver interpreted it as something very different. Cultural identity,
along with stereotyping, language and nonverbal cues, plays a large role in affecting communication
between individuals and can be seen anywhere from conversations between friends, to business
exchanges, to sitcoms. Family Guy is an American sitcom that uses many concepts of communication
to transmit humorous messages to audiences. The cartoon is about a white suburbian family named the
Griffins who live in Quahog, Rhode Island, and often uses vulgar language and slapstick humor to
entertain the audience. The main character, Peter, and his wife Lois have three children, Meg, Chris
and Stewie, and a dog named Brian. In this episode, Stewie and Brian travel back in time to the Nazi

Essay on Women in Music Entertainment
Women in Music Entertainment
There are so many talented female artists in music today that it s hard not to think of some right off the
top of my head. Not only do they have great voices, but they re successful and confident, not to
mention pretty darn rich! Some of these artists knew that they were going to become a star while they
were still in diapers. The two females that I will be highlighting are two of the younger musical talents
that are out in the industry at this time. They both worked hard to get to where they are today by
starting off with many of the same dreams and aspirations many of us women share. These women
have contributed so much at such a young age that it s almost hard to believe. Music is such a ... Show

Not only was she doing all of this at the young age of 17, but Alicia also managed to graduate out of
her high school a year early, and as the schools prized valedictorian. In late 1999, Alicia followed the
renowned Clive Davis to his new company J Records, where she continued to show signs of success.
Now, at the age of 20 in the year 2001, releasing her Debut CD Songs in A Minor, Alicia Keys is still
rising. Her CD has already gone triple platinum, (the first number 1 album for her new label). She has
also won the 2001 Best New Artist MTV video music award. Her music is incredible, with well
written and very wise lyrics. Her sound is very unique and different from many of the artists out there
right now.
Her new single out at this moment is called A Woman s Worth, and ladies, I recommend you listen to
it. Do not let that significant other take advantage of you. It s basically telling all the men out there to
treat their woman with respect. She sings lines like You will lose if you choose to refuse to put her
first, she will, and she can find a man who knows her worth. One listen to this album and you ll be
very pleased with the quality and soulful sound of her beautiful voice!
The next artist is not new, and has actually been in the game for a while now! With her charismatic
personality and electrifying voice, Gwen Stefani of No Doubt is a singing pro. What makes her even
greater is that she was born in Orange County and went

Living Inside The Large City
Geneva
This is my home in Geneva. My family lives in a manor near a lake, and about a league outside of the
large city, because we don t like living inside the large bustling city, which currently has a population
of around 37000. [1] I am about to leave home to continue my education. I am going to miss my
family and friends here, but I need to pursue my dreams, and I could always visit home if I miss it.
Pursuing science and philosophy has been a dream of mine since I was a small child, and saw a tree
struck by lightning. [ch. 2] I can finally satisfy this lust more so than I had by reading every one of
those old books about the wonders of philosophy and alchemy.

[3] To put it in my own words, Mont Blanc, the supreme and magnificent Mont Blanc, raised itself
from the surrounding aiguilles, and its tremendous dome overlooked the valley. [ch. 9] I had thought I
saw the monster, but the monster had seen me as well. He confronted me in the valley and told me his
life story of everything he could remember from after his creation. I can t help but feel sorry for this
creature that I had brought into life so miserable.
I am in England now, which is just a resting point on my journey. I am with my friend best friend,
Henry Clerval. I have decided to make a wife for the monster, and need to find a place to do so. But I
shall remain in London for a few months. It is nice to visit these places that I have heard of even in
Geneva, such as Greenwich, which has recently been established as the prime meridian for all maps.
[4] I wish I could be happy, at least for Henry s sake, but every time I come close to being happy, I
think of poor William and Justine, the deaths of whom I feel responsible for, and I cannot feel happy
knowing what I had done. [ch. 19]
At the advice of someone who once stayed in my family s house in Geneva, I have decided to go to
Scotland, where I will set up my lab and finish my goal, specifically in the Orkneys Islands, which are
small, fertile, remote islands. [5] I have picked a small island that is just a small rock with water

Computers And Its Impact On Modern Society Essay
Computers
In between 1943 and 1946, ENIAC was designed by John Mauchly and J. Presper Eckert at University
of Pennsylvania, U.S. ENIAC was a modular computer, collected of separate panels to perform
different functions. Twenty of these parts were accumulators, which could not only add and subtract
but hold a ten digit decimal number in memory. Numbers were passed between these units across
several general purpose buses. In order to achieve its high speed, the panels had to send and receive
numbers, save the answer and produce the next operation, all without any moving parts. Key to its
usefulness was the ability to branch; it could produce different operations, depending on the sign of a
computed result. ENIAC contained 17,468 vacuum tubes, 7200 crystal diodes, 1500 relays, 70,000
resistors, 10,000 capacitors and about 5,000,000 hand soldered joints. It weighed more than 30 tons,
was roughly 2.4m × 0.9m × 30m in size, and consumed 150 kW of electricity. This power requirement
led to the rumour that whenever the computer was switched on, lights in Philadelphia dimmed.

Gender Inequalities Of Sports And Gender Inequality
Gender Inequalities in Sport
Men throughout history have been the dominant gender, from the times of hunting with stone weapons
to the modern day metal and automated machines. Many negative connotations are thought of when
comparing women to men like strength, but less so when comparing men to women. Is it the society s
view that women are weaker than men or is it a natural fact brought to light? In sports women
experience many prejudices, but even so some sports are equal or even female dominant. However the
sheer majority lie in the male dominated section leaving women feeling oppressed and as if they have
unequal rights, and they mostly do. Some instances of women oppression or unequal rights in sport
belong to the sponsorships they receive, the effect media plays on children and women and also the
history of sport and of gender inequality itself. The physical make up of each gender also effects
stereotyping and how people perceive each gender.
Gender inequality is a hot political issue today and inequality itself has been prevalent in sport
throughout its history. The inventor of the modern Olympics, Pierre de Coubertin, created the
Olympics with the mindset that women should not be allowed to compete but only spectate. Today
women do compete just like men do and many women excel in sports that men can t do well in and
vice versa. Gender inequality has been, in large, a major part of society since the beginning. Men
would always rule the country and the household. Women

With that said society must think about the millions who played these games every day. Why are there

that pathological acts of course have multiple complex causes and are hard to predict. About.com
states that one of the most arguable and a violent game in history is the Grand Theft Auto series. This
may be one of the best games to discuss when you are fighting your case on the violence of video

limitation of violence is endless because all the action that goes on from robbing people, stealing cars,

Facilitation Reflection
Introduction
Reflecting on my facilitation skills, I am not sure why I found the facilitation exercise so daunting. I
have facilitated therapeutic recreation programs to a senior population, many times without thinking
or worrying about it. However, presenting in front of my TREC 3400 peers, I felt it was an
overwhelming task. I was very anxious even though I facilitated this activity many times.
Facilitating an intervention, during this course, have given me a better understanding of what is
required to be a dynamic facilitator. In this paper, I will look at how recognizing your emotions, your
strengths, and your weaknesses can help maximize your facilitation techniques/skills to become a
better facilitator that provides successful and enjoyable programs to all participants. Intervention,
Purpose, and Goal
I use the reminiscence facilitation technique to achieve the desired outcomes because reminiscence
facilitates social interaction and evokes memories (Dattilo McKenney, 2016). The modality I choose
was Penny Ante which is a fun game that encourages friendship and conversation.
The purpose of this activity is to provide seniors with mild dementia who live in a nursing home the
opportunity to engage in a social activity that encourages self expression to reduce boredom. The
goals and measurable objectives for the intervention are:
During the group discussion, the participant will demonstrate the ability of self expression by recalling
and sharing a personal memory

The Lymphatic And Immune System
The organs that make up the lymphatic and immune system are the tonsils, spleen, thymus gland,
lymph nodes, and lymphatic vessels. White blood cells (leukocytes), red blood cells (erythrocytes),
plasma, and platelets (thrombocytes) make up the blood. Lymphocytes are leukocytes (white blood
cells) that help the body fight off diseases. Two types of lymphocytes are B cells and T cells.
Lymphocytes recognize antigens, or foreign substances/matter, in the body. Lymphocytes are a
classification of agranulocytes, or cells ( cytes) without (a ) granules (granul/o) in the cytoplasm. B
cells are created from stem cells, which are located in the bone marrow. B cells respond to antigens by
becoming plasma cells. These plasma cells then create antibodies. Memory B cells produce a stronger
response with the next exposure to the antigen. B cells fight off infection and bacteria while T cells
defend against viruses and cancer cells. A hormone created by the thymus gland called thymosin
changes lymphocytes into T cells. The thymus gland is active when you are a child and slowly shrinks,
as you get older. T cells bind to the antigens on the cells and directly attack them. T cells secrete
lymphokines that increase T cell production and directly kill cells with antigens. There are three types
of T cells: cytotoxic T cells, helper T cells, and memory T cells.

Tipping In Restaurants
Tipping is an expected behavior from individuals after a meal in a restaurant. However, not every
individual will leave a tip or will leave a tip that is smaller than what is expected. This is one thing
that restaurants want to change. Behaviors on tipping vary across cultures, it is a voluntary choice in
the United States but a service charge is almost always included in a bill in Europe (Hessler, 1999).
Restaurants have tried changing the tipping behavior of customers in many ways. One method that has
been implemented is including gratuity guidelines on the bill. These guidelines provide the customer a
variety of tips usually 15, 18 and 20 percent calculated from the bill and imply to tip within the given
range (Hessler, 1999). There ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to reactance theory, in order to earn the most amount in tips, the customer should not be
pressured to leave a tip. If a customer is pressured to leave a tip, either through guidelines or a

to tip. Anchoring and adjustment heuristic can also predict tipping behavior and what can be done so
customers tip more. Providing the customer with gratuity guidelines will increase tipping behavior
because this offers a convenience to the customer. The anchoring and adjustment heuristic can get
people to tip more because customers are able to use the gratuity guidelines as suggestions and base

Characteristics Of Romanticism
Jonathan and Jessica Wordsworth. New York, NY: Penguin Books, 2005. Print.
Review by Gloria Wan, Oxford College of Emory University
The Penguin Books of Romantic Poetry includes a collections of romantic poetry from later eighteen
centuries to the early nineteenth century. At the peak of Romanticism, there were many social and
political changes occurred including the French Revolution, Napoleon s expansion in Europe, the
Congress of Vienna, the conflict between conservatism and liberalism, Industrial revolution and so on.
Romantic poets used poems to express their emotions of their love for nature, longing for the ancient
legends, and they tried to use their emotions and feelings to understand the world around them
including the French Revolution, slavery, industrial revolution and the Napoleonic war. However, after
the Revolution of 1848, the wave of romanticism died out and realism emerged.
Many romantic poetries praised the beauty and the power of the nature, and this can be seen as one of
the characteristic of Romanticism. In the poem Ode to the West Wind by Percy Shelley, it talked about
wind has the power to change the season from autumn to spring, and it can also bring rain and hail in
the sky and waves in the ocean. As he wrote in his poem Oh wild west wind, thou breath of autumn s
being, thou, from whose unseen presence the leaves dead are driven, like ghosts from an enchanter

Bacterial Conjunctivitis Essay
Bacterial Conjunctivitis
Bacterial Conjunctivitis, commonly known as pink eye , is one of the most well known and treatable
eye infections for both children and adults. The name was chosen because it is an inflammation of the
conjunctiva. The conjunctiva is the clear membrane that covers the white part of the eye and lines the
inner surface of the eyelids. It is commonly called pink eye because of the red color of the eye from
irritation and was described as such.

Both eyes are usually infected although is often starts in just one eye and the eyes are itchy and
painful. Bacterial conjunctivitis causes an increase one s sensitivity and also cause pain when exposed
to light. When vision in bright light is impaired it is referred to as photophobia. Ear infections often
accompany Bacterial Conjunctivitis.
Bacterial Conjunctivitis has a relatively short incubation period. Most cases are cured in 3 5 daysand
there is rarely any permanent damage. The disease is treated with antibiotics that typically contain
Sulamyd and administered as eye drops or an ointment for 7 10 days. Oral antibiotics can be given for
certain types of bacteria. It is important, however, to continue medication as instructed by the
physician, even after the symptoms have cleared. If antibiotics are not taken, the disease will run its
course in fourteen days and a wet washcloth over the eyelids may help relive some discomfort. An
over the counter Saline Solution, artificial tears , can be used to relive itching and burning, but
precautions should be taken so that the bottle never touches the infected eye. Sunglasses can be worn

The short story Hurt by Alden Nowlan offers a glimpse into the effect of childhood relations. The
story is a recollection about the narrator, Skip s, childhood friend, Stevie, and how he interacted with
the people around him. Stevie lives a difficult life but learns from the hardships instead of turning
bitter. The most influential relationship children have in their early life is with their parents. In Hurt
Stevie s father does not take care of him and just let s him do what he wants. This has made their
relationship hard and has also caused Stevie to be very hard on himself. He is smart but afraid of
others hurting him. However this fear has not prevented him from making friends with Skip, in their
friendship he is very kind and teaches him about life. The way Stevie sees himself and his
relationships with others have shaped him into an intelligent but closed off person. The most

The Little Mermaid Society Essay
Woman of the Society
In the film The Little Mermaid by John Musker and Ron Clements, a theme that continually portrays
itself is how woman are seen in society. In this film, women are defined by their appearance instead of
their inner self or personality by men and women. It also displays that woman are not treated fair. This
is expressed in the film through multiple song lyrics and scenes. Ariel, the little mermaid, experiences
many occasions where woman in a society are seen differently than men. In the film, Ariel was given
an option to live under the sea and live life under the rule of her father, or be on land with her Prince
Eric. Although this is clearly not laid out, a man figure is always above Ariel and could convey an idea

The line in this song says, There is one way to ask her. It don t take a word. Not a single word. Go on
and kiss the girl. (Clements, Musker). This piece takes place when animals around them is asking Eric
to kiss Ariel, but the lyrics state it doesn t take a single word, so it can reveal an idea that if both the
characters are in love than Eric should kiss Ariel without consent. Acting without consent is not
acceptable because what if Ariel was not on the same page as Eric. This exact scenario can occur in
real life where a male can do something that a female didn t provide consent to.
Another part of the movie that provides sufficient evidence that a woman s appearance is all that
matters is also stated in the song Poor Unfortunate Souls and the concept of what makes a good or bad
woman. For instance, when Ursula begins singing Poor Unfortunate Souls , it says, You ll have your
looks, your pretty face. And don t underestimate the importance of body language. The men up there
don t like a lot of blabber. They think a girl who gossips is a bore! (Clements, Musker). The lyrics
state that men in the society are not a fond of women who talk but appreciate looks and that if Ariel
were to lose her voice it won t matter. This is important because a woman s value should not rely on
their looks. When the character Ursula is introduced there is a clear distinction of what makes a
woman good or bad . In this case, a good woman

heroic stereotype that suggests that American frontier heroes played a very important role in the
shaping of American literature and culture than had previously been known by Denise MacNeil and
Mary Rowlandson. Following up after reading The Account of Mary Rowlandson and Other Indian
Captivity Narratives, it was an eye opener for myself. Furthermore, it was an eye opener, because

According to Mary Rowlandson and the Foundational Mythology, it makes it evident that MacNeil
and Rowlandson believe the American frontier is present. Also, they believe that without the American
frontier some of our history would not be known or may not have happened. I also agree with them, I
believe that the American frontier hero is present in our culture today. For instance, it states
Rowlandson here recounts learning another Native American wilderness technique, using a beaver
dam as a bridge (Rowlandson 333). This is relevant of proving how the American frontier heroes are
still current, because without these heroes today, student and people would not be able to learn about
the Native American history or the way of life. Like stated, Rowlandson learned how the Native
Americans used a beaver dam as a bridge, without these heroes showing and telling others about this
information, humans today would leave beaver dams alone since it is an animals home. Another
reason the American frontier hero is important is to learn the crucial element of wilderness survival is
the ability Rowlandson developed to successfully reconcile Native American and Puritan ways
(Rowlandson 333). This is vital information, because without the American frontier hero s students or
people would not be fully aware or informed on how to

Diction And Imagery In The Weary Blues By Langston Hughes
This poem is entitled The Weary Blues and is written by Langston Hughes. It was originally published
in 1926 in the Urban League Magazine. The time period in which this poem was written consisted of a
lot of slavery of dark skinned people. Moreover, the collection that this poem is extracted from, also
entitled The Weary Blues , focuses on the struggles and experiences of African Americans at that time.
It was during the time period of these struggles when the Africans brought the blues, originally
originated from the Africans, to America. The arrival of this genre of music into America explains the
situation that is dealt with in this poem, which is a Negro man singing and playing the blues to
himself. Hughes use of poetic devices in this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lenox Avenue is a street in Harlem, New York; which, at the time, and even currently, do African
Americans mainly populate. Secondly, the use of imagery portrays his skin colour as it describes his
ebony hands (9). Given the time period, the physical description of the character allows readers to
understand why he d be singing the blues. Emotionally, the man in this poem seems to be quite lonely.
This is demonstrated through the lyrics he sings: Ain t got nobody in all this world, /Ain t got nobody
but ma self (19 20). The diction in these lyrics allows readers to see that the man feels alone in this
world. Furthermore, in the second stanza, he continues his song: I got the Weary Blues / And I can t be
satisfied / Got the Weary Blues / And can t be satisfied / I ain t happy no mo / And I wish that I had
died (25 30). The use of repetition in these lyrics, excluding the word I the second time, emphasizes
that he is unsatisfied but also suggests that he is the voice of other African Americans that were
dealing with a lifestyle like his. The poem ends by stating that the man slept like a rock or a man that s
dead (35). This simile is significant because it conveys that the subject is lifeless and supports the
ideas that he was singing about. His use of, and, passion in music is portrayed through the
personification of a piano: he made that poor

The Controversy Of Tagus s Argument
The argument mentioned by the author is flawed. The author not only takes a handful of resources but
also uses those limited resources is to make a sweeping generalization that the government of Tagus
should do everything that it can do to promote that new type of millet. Basically, the argument is based
on the assumption that as the millet is a common food in Tagus, the people will readily adopt the new
variety. But, it has not mentioned anything that the new variety of millet has the same taste. So, there
is no any certainty that the people will like the taste and adopt it. Therefore, further study of the newly
engendered variety must be done to ensure its adoption. Furthermore, in the argument, there is no any
evidence that the subsidies

Representation Of Hamlet
The theatrical representation of Hamlet is one of mystery, action, character development, but most
importantly, tragedy. A considerable amount of people hold a common belief that the play, Hamlet, by
William Shakespeare is a tragedy, due to the fact that all the main characters perish at the end of the
play. An individual might take this stance on this argument upon first hearing. However, the reality of
the situation is that there are numerous parts of the play that show that this statement is not only
incorrect, but an oversimplified version of the bigger truth. Further investigation into this topic will
reveal that, in fact, the decisions the characters make throughout the duration of the play is where the
true tragedy builds up. At first, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As with Ophelia s tragedy, Laertes suffers a tragedy of being deceived and used by Claudius as a
result of Hamlet s impulsive behavior as well, further assuring that the tragedy exhibits itself in the
conclusions drawn by the characters in the story. The tragedy inside Laertes that is the causation of
Hamlet s killing of Polonius is evident through the scene where Laertes confronts Claudius on why he
did not punish Hamlet for his malicious act. Claudius then goes on to trick Laertes into plotting
against Hamlet, and Laertes proclaims, And so I have a noble father lost;/A sister driven into desperate
terms/Whose worth. if praises may go back again,/Stood challenger on mount of all the age/For her
perfections. But my revenge will come (4.7.27 31.) At this moment in time, it can be seen that while
Laertes expresses his emotions of rage, he is being manipulated by Claudius, as well as how the
dramatic purpose shows character development, as the tragic outcome of being tricked like this for
personal gain stems from that of how Hamlet s actions had resulted in the loss of his father, which was
ultimately one of Hamlet s rash decisions. Upon closer look, the place where tragedy lies is not only
where all the characters die, but where the outcomes of the decisions the characters make throughout
the course of the play, such as when Hamlet commits homicide towards Polonius, or how Claudius
can cause tragedies with the way he lives his as

Mikhail Gorbachev And The Soviet Union
During the 1900 s, the Soviet Union proved to be one of the most powerful and ruthless empires in
history. They had vast amount of land under their control, millions of people that came from different
ethnicities, and was one of the worlds strongest military power. However, through the struggle for
military power, economic factors, ethnic fragmentation it watched its mighty empire crumble, and
many blamed its president, Mikhail Gorbachev and his incompetent decisions for it.
Mikhail Gorbachev, who came from a longtime Communist party assumed office in March 1985.
Once Gorbachev was in office, he introduced two new set of policies that he hoped would help the
USSR become a more productive and prosperous nation. One of these new set of policies was known
as, Glasnost, which also meant political openness. Glasnost eliminated traces of Stalinist repression,
like the banning of books and the omnipresent secret police, and gave new freedoms to Soviet
citizens. These freedoms included, political prisoners were released. newspapers could print criticisms
of the government, and for the first time, parties other than the Communist Party could participate in
elections. However, Glasnost would ultimately fail, because the public viewed it as a way for its
leaders to cover up revealing past and recent atrocities, missteps by leadership, social and health
failures of the USSR and the true extent of national economic problems. The other new policy was
known as Perestroika, which also

Christina Rossetti s Goblin Market
Christina Rossetti s poem Goblin Market provokes vivid imagery and illustrates the cost and
consequences of rash actions. The narrative poem tells of two women going about their daily lives,
one woman being steadfast in denying forbidden or dangerous choices while the other willingly risks
herself due to being unable to resist temptation. Lizzie and Laura are both innocent and virginal at the
beginning of the poem, but Laura s curiosity proves to be stronger than her sister s warning. Rossetti
creates an uncomfortable struggle between the consequences of pursuing lust and the need to explore
human desires. With language like sucked and heaved, Laura loses her youth and bloom as a result of
taking the goblin men s fruit. A woman s deflowering ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She decides to deny all her previous thoughts of how to deal with goblin men and instead goes in
search of them. Lizzie fears that Laura will die soon, so she places a silver penny in her purse and
goes to purchase fruit. Then Lizzie weighed no more better and worse; but put a silver penny in her
purse, kissed Laura, crossed the heath with clumps of furze at twilight, halted by the brook: and for the
first time in her life began to listen and look (609). She asks for fruit for her sister, but the goblins
instead invite Lizzie to join their feast. When she refuses they suddenly change. No longer are they
interesting, lively, and perhaps even cute amalgamations; suddenly they become wicked and abusive.
They will not sell Lizzie the fruit to take away with her; instead they attack, jostle, and abuse her.
Smashing their fruit into her face and leave bruises and torn clothing in their wake before running
away and hiding; a fairly obvious rape scenario. Lizzie then goes home happy despite the pain of the
ordeal and tells Laura to Come kiss me. Never mind my bruises, Hug me, kiss me, suck my juices
squeezed from goblin fruits for you (612). Rossetti uses the language of sexual violence when the
goblin men attack her with fruit. Laura is immediately worried that Lizzie had doomed herself in an
attempt to help her. She asked if Lizzie partook for the goblin fruit and so doomed herself. Lizzie

Talbot 3). Perfectly healthy individuals are turning to these so called neuroenhancers (Talbot 3) or
smart pills (qtd. Cheshire 264) to improve their mental abilities. According to research led by Sean
Esteban McCabe, a professor at the University of Michigan s Substance Abuse Research Center, the
individuals most likely to take neuroenhancers in college were white male undergraduates at highly
competitive schools especially in the Northeast (Talbot 3). The appeal of these drugs seems to lie in
the fact that they target subjective symptoms (Cheshire 264) in healthy people instead of a disease.
Neuroenhancers are looked to as a way to quickly improve a person s mental capabilities in order to
perform better at tasks in a limited amount of time.
Another reason for the increasing rise in the use of neuroenhancers is that these drugs are readily
available. Often classmates have seen their peers with ADHD take these pills. In college, it is an easy
matter of borrowing some from a friend with ADHD who has a ready supply through a prescription or
they buy them from a supplier (Talbot 3). One student closely observed the symptoms of his brother
who had been diagnosed with ADHD. Upon describing these same symptoms to his doctor, the
healthy student received a prescription for Adderall (Talbot 2). Drugs such as Adderall and Ritalin are
amphetamines which the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

The Role of Air Defense in the Gulf War Throughout the history of Air Defense Artillery (ADA),
innovative steps were made for the technological advance in weaponry to defend our skies and ground

New Strands Of Goods And Services From Brand Name Companies
Crooks gain large lump sums of goods and services from brand name companies that are more likely
to use celebrities to advertise for them. Imitators hit big well known companies because they would be
willfully giving, if they think that a famous person would want to advertise their brand. So they profit
on asking brand name companies for merchandise. Sharks prosper massive amounts of goods and
services through targeting a familiarized company. Scammers accumulate goods and services from top
notch companies since they are more likely to believe that celebrity would ask for it. Pretenders attain
expensive goods and services by relaying to a widely known company that a famous celebrity is
interested in testing or trying the item out. Thus, con artist go for big because companies believe that
those celebrities would want to have that brand in their possession. With today s new strands of
technology it is very difficult for companies to depict if that celebrity wanted their products, goods or
services.
There are many ways such as computers, telephones or even mail that can be sent out from and to any
company. To state it differently brand name companies do not pay attention to where or even if that
celebrity asked for merchandise or service. All they care about is the name of the celebrity who asked
for it. Obviously merchants disregard all other things when it comes down to getting a celebrity to
advertise for them. Brand name companies only think about having their merchandise

Genes prepare the machine in advance, then this will be at your own risk. Genes act in the long term
by protein synthesis, but this is a slow process. Therefore, the genes build your machine in advance, in
the best way possible and programming it in advance.
Therefore, the behavior is governed by the selfishness of the genes of each agency and not by altruism
of individuals with regard to the other members of their species. Dawkins takes care to show this
throughout the whole book with numerous individual behaviors.
As for the man, for he is the only body able to cope and be contrary to the dictates of the selfish genes,
thanks to our consciousness: . only man can rebel against the tyranny of the selfish replicators Most
characteristics that are unusual in men are due to culture, Dawkins also intended to treat as a
transmission unit, although with some particular mechanisms.
In his own words, for an understanding of modern man must discard to the gene as the sole basis of
our ideas on evolution would also be culture; Darwinism is too broad to be confined to the narrow
context of the gene theory. Culture acts as a replicator that is established in the brain and persist

Duality In Plato s The Republic
In Plato s The Republic, Socrates reasons that poets are detrimental to society because they portray
false and abstract images that feed the bad and impious parts of the human soul, corrupting people by
allowing them to indulge in inappropriate and cowardly behavior. However, Socrates s views seem to
be based solely around reason and an objective, quantifiable truth. He wants people to be so pious and
under control that they do not even experience impulses towards impiety, however the elimination of
the choice between right and wrong also eliminates any value in the choosing right. Duality is an
integral part of human experience and it can perhaps teach us more than a simple existence of piety.
Socrates postulates that poetry and other imitative

This tragedy is placed at the time of the civil war when a boy tells the story of his brother coming into this world. His brother was born very small and unhealthy, leading his parents to think that he will not survive for very long. But the aunt disagrees and the baby proves her right. Once the baby is three months, the mother and father decide to name him William Armstrong. His mother tells the brother that he is feedable but not all there , meaning that he isn t the typical boy that can run around and play. Brother is enraged at the fact that he won t have a playmate and decides that he wants to suffocate William until he sees the small infant give him a smile. The brother realizes that he isn t completely gone. As William ages to age two, he has learned to move about and crawl around. The doctors are afraid that if he is physically active like this, it will damage his heart. Instead of crawling, the doctors want him to scoot or crawl backward. With William Armstrong doing this, he earns the name Doodle , which is given to him by his older brother who feels that it is a much more fitting name. Doodle soon learns how to talk and feels a strong brotherhood between his brother even though he receives tough treatment from him. As Doodle becomes older, his brother decides that he does not want a brother who cannot walk at his age because that was embarrassing to him. The thought ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Terraria Vs Minecraft Research Paper Minecraft and Terraria are top selling sandbox games that are slightly similar to each other, but since their release, gamers have been arguing which one is better. Minecraft is better because of its reliability, massive multiplayer system, and its ingenious difficulty and game modes. First of all, Minecraft has infinite replayability, each world you create is randomly generated and infinite, leaving so much to explore. In the game, you can also visit The Nether infested with Zombie pigmen and Ghasts, The End home to the Enderdragon and Endermen, and another dimension which will be released in the 1.9 update. Four game modes can be chosen at the start of the game. They are Survival, Creative, Adventure, and Hardcore. Survival is the main mode in Minecraft, it adds a health and hunger meter and players must survive in a blocky world full of mobs (enemies). If you die in this mode, you will lose all your items and experience and teleport back to the spawn. Creative removes the health and hunger bar and let s the player fly and have unlimited blocks. Adventure is a mode commonly used on player submitted maps, this prevents the player from breaking anything unless they have the right tool. Hardcore is exactly like Survival, but when players die the world resets and the player has to start over. Survival, Adventure, and Hardcore can have set difficulties. In Peaceful difficulty, no mobs will spawn and players will not starve. In Easy difficulty, mobs will spawn and when a player starves, he or she will lose half of their health. In Medium difficulty, mobs will be much stronger and when you starve you will lose ¾ of your health. In Hard difficulty, mobs will be much stronger, much faster, and have more health. • 4. Family Guy Is An American Sitcom Texas Longhorns football fans often use a specific hand gesture when rooting for their team; by holding up the fore and pinkie fingers while keeping the middle and ring fingers down, using the thumb to hold the middle and ring fingers in position, they make bull horns. However, if a Longhorns fan were to make this same gesture in Spain, it would be an offensive gesture that means to have sex with someone else s wife. All people, and even animals, uses communication to transmit messages. However, many factors can warp or change what the sender is trying to communicate. The Texas fan intended to use the hand gesture as a positive message in support of a sports team, but due to the difference in cultural identity, the receiver interpreted it as something very different. Cultural identity, along with stereotyping, language and nonverbal cues, plays a large role in affecting communication between individuals and can be seen anywhere from conversations between friends, to business exchanges, to sitcoms. Family Guy is an American sitcom that uses many concepts of communication to transmit humorous messages to audiences. The cartoon is about a white suburbian family named the Griffins who live in Quahog, Rhode Island, and often uses vulgar language and slapstick humor to entertain the audience. • 6. Essay on Women in Music Entertainment Women in Music Entertainment There are so many talented female artists in music today that it s hard not to think of some right off the top of my head. Not only do they have great voices, but they re successful and confident, not to mention pretty darn rich! Some of these artists knew that they were going to become a star while they were still in diapers. The two females that I will be highlighting are two of the younger musical talents that are out in the industry at this time. She sings lines like You will lose if you choose to refuse to put her first, she will, and she can find a man who knows her worth. My family lives in a manor near a lake, and about a league outside of the large city, because we don t like living inside the large bustling city, which currently has a population of around 37000. [1] I am about to leave home to continue my education. I am going to miss my family and friends here, but I need to pursue my dreams, and I could always visit home if I miss it. Pursuing science and philosophy has been a dream of mine since I was a small child, and saw a tree struck by lightning. Presper Eckert at University of Pennsylvania, U.S. ENIAC was a modular computer, collected of separate panels to perform different functions. Twenty of these parts were accumulators, which could not only add and subtract but hold a ten digit decimal number in memory. Numbers were passed between these units across several general purpose buses. In order to achieve its high speed, the panels had to send and receive numbers, save the answer and produce the next operation, all without any moving parts. Key to its usefulness was the ability to branch; it could produce different operations, depending on the sign of a computed result. ENIAC contained 17,468 vacuum tubes, 7200 crystal diodes, 1500 relays, 70,000 resistors, 10,000 capacitors and about 5,000,000 hand soldered joints. It weighed more than 30 tons, was roughly 2.4m × 0.9m × 30m in size, and consumed 150 kW of electricity. • 9. Gender Inequalities Of Sports And Gender Inequality Gender Inequalities in Sport Men throughout history have been the dominant gender, from the times of hunting with stone weapons to the modern day metal and automated machines. Many negative connotations are thought of when comparing women to men like strength, but less so when comparing men to women. Is it the society s view that women are weaker than men or is it a natural fact brought to light? In sports women experience many prejudices, but even so some sports are equal or even female dominant. However the sheer majority lie in the male dominated section leaving women feeling oppressed and as if they have unequal rights, and they mostly do. Some instances of women oppression or unequal rights in sport belong to the sponsorships they receive, the effect media plays on children and women and also the history of sport and of gender inequality itself. The physical make up of each gender also effects stereotyping and how people perceive each gender. Gender inequality is a hot political issue today and inequality itself has been prevalent in sport throughout its history. The inventor of the modern Olympics, Pierre de Coubertin, created the Olympics with the mindset that women should not be allowed to compete but only spectate. Today women do compete just like men do and many women excel in sports that men can t do well in and vice versa. Gender inequality has been, in large, a major part of society since the beginning. Men would always rule the country and the household. Women ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Facilitation Reflection Introduction Reflecting on my facilitation skills, I am not sure why I found the facilitation exercise so daunting. I have facilitated therapeutic recreation programs to a senior population, many times without thinking or worrying about it. However, presenting in front of my TREC 3400 peers, I felt it was an overwhelming task. I was very anxious even though I facilitated this activity many times. Facilitating an intervention, during this course, have given me a better understanding of what is required to be a dynamic facilitator. In this paper, I will look at how recognizing your emotions, your strengths, and your weaknesses can help maximize your facilitation techniques/skills to become a better facilitator that provides successful and enjoyable programs to all participants. Intervention, Purpose, and Goal I use the reminiscence facilitation technique to achieve the desired outcomes because reminiscence facilitates social interaction and evokes memories (Dattilo McKenney, 2016). The modality I choose was Penny Ante which is a fun game that encourages friendship and conversation. The purpose of this activity is to provide seniors with mild dementia who live in a nursing home the opportunity to engage in a social activity that encourages self expression to reduce boredom. The goals and measurable objectives for the intervention are: During the group discussion, the participant will demonstrate the ability of self expression by recalling and sharing a personal memory ... • 12. The Lymphatic And Immune System The organs that make up the lymphatic and immune system are the tonsils, spleen, thymus gland, lymph nodes, and lymphatic vessels. White blood cells (leukocytes), red blood cells (erythrocytes), plasma, and platelets (thrombocytes) make up the blood. Lymphocytes are leukocytes (white blood cells) that help the body fight off diseases. Two types of lymphocytes are B cells and T cells. Lymphocytes recognize antigens, or foreign substances/matter, in the body. Lymphocytes are a classification of agranulocytes, or cells ( cytes) without (a ) granules (granul/o) in the cytoplasm. B cells are created from stem cells, which are located in the bone marrow. B cells respond to antigens by becoming plasma cells. These plasma cells then create antibodies. Memory B cells produce a stronger response with the next exposure to the antigen. B cells fight off infection and bacteria while T cells defend against viruses and cancer cells. A hormone created by the thymus gland called thymosin changes lymphocytes into T cells. The thymus gland is active when you are a child and slowly shrinks, as you get older. T cells bind to the antigens on the cells and directly attack them. T cells secrete lymphokines that increase T cell production and directly kill cells with antigens. There are three types of T cells: cytotoxic T cells, helper T cells, and memory T cells. HIV, or Human Immunodeficiency Virus, is an autoimmune disorder. Restaurants have tried changing the tipping behavior of customers in many ways. One method that has been implemented is including gratuity guidelines on the bill. Review by Gloria Wan, Oxford College of Emory University The Penguin Books of Romantic Poetry includes a collections of romantic poetry from later eighteen centuries to the early nineteenth century. At the peak of Romanticism, there were many social and political changes occurred including the French Revolution, Napoleon s expansion in Europe, the Congress of Vienna, the conflict between conservatism and liberalism, Industrial revolution and so on. Romantic poets used poems to express their emotions of their love for nature, longing for the ancient legends, and they tried to use their emotions and feelings to understand the world around them including the French Revolution, slavery, industrial revolution and the Napoleonic war. However, after the Revolution of 1848, the wave of romanticism died out and realism emerged. Many romantic poetries praised the beauty and the power of the nature, and this can be seen as one of the characteristic of Romanticism. In the poem Ode to the West Wind by Percy Shelley, it talked about wind has the power to change the season from autumn to spring, and it can also bring rain and hail in the sky and waves in the ocean. As he wrote in his poem Oh wild west wind, thou breath of autumn s being, thou, from whose unseen presence the leaves dead are driven, like ghosts from an enchanter fleeing...the winged seeds, where they lie cold and low, each like a corpse within its ... The Little Mermaid Society Essay Woman of the Society In the film The Little Mermaid by John Musker and Ron Clements, a theme that continually portrays itself is how woman are seen in society. In this film, women are defined by their appearance instead of their inner self or personality by men and women. It also displays that woman are not treated fair. This is expressed in the film through multiple song lyrics and scenes. Ariel, the little mermaid, experiences many occasions where woman in a society are seen differently than men. Acting without consent is not acceptable because what if Ariel was not on the same page as Eric. This exact scenario can occur in real life where a male can do something that a female didn t provide consent to. Another part of the movie that provides sufficient evidence that a woman s appearance is all that matters is also stated in the song Poor Unfortunate Souls and the concept of what makes a good or bad woman. For instance, when Ursula begins singing Poor Unfortunate Souls , it says, You ll have your looks, your pretty face. And don t underestimate the importance of body language. The men up there don t like a lot of blabber. They think a girl who gossips is a bore! (Clements, Musker). The lyrics state that men in the society are not a fond of women who talk but appreciate looks and that if Ariel were to lose her voice it won t matter. This is important because a woman s value should not rely on their looks. When the character Ursula is introduced there is a clear distinction of what makes a woman good or bad . For instance, it states Rowlandson here recounts learning another Native American wilderness technique, using a beaver dam as a bridge (Rowlandson 333). This is relevant of proving how the American frontier heroes are still current, because without these heroes today, student and people would not be able to learn about the Native American history or the way of life. Another reason the American frontier hero is important is to learn the crucial element of wilderness survival is the ability Rowlandson developed to successfully reconcile Native American and Puritan ways (Rowlandson 333). Therefore, the genes build your machine in advance, in the best way possible and programming it in advance. Therefore, the behavior is governed by the selfishness of the genes of each agency and not by altruism of individuals with regard to the other members of their species. As for the man, for he is the only body able to cope and be contrary to the dictates of the selfish genes, thanks to our consciousness: . only man can rebel against the tyranny of the selfish replicators Most characteristics that are unusual in men are due to culture, Dawkins also intended to treat as a transmission unit, although with some particular mechanisms. In his own words, for an understanding of modern man must discard to the gene as the sole basis of our ideas on evolution would also be culture; Darwinism is too broad to be confined to the narrow context of the gene theory. Culture acts as a replicator that is established in the brain and persist generation after generation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
