Michelle Obama Speech Analysis
In the midst of the 2016 election, First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama gave a speech
in New Hampshire regarding the candidates. Donald Trump was facing Hillary Clinton; and in
support, Michelle Obama presented a Speech On Donald Trump s Alleged Treatment Of Women.
As stated in the title, Trump had recently made rude remarks regarding women, and Michelle
Obamawas using this as a learning lesson for anyone looking to vote for Trump. She made it a
point to vote for Hillary by not only stating why not to vote for Trump, but also listing her many
accomplishments throughout her lifetime. Michelle Obama was able to create an effective and
persuasive speech by strongly stating Trump s wrongdoings, passionately listing Clinton s
achievements, and frightening us of the possible future for our children.
Obama s reasoning develops ideas that help connect her claim and evidence using the rhetoric
device of ethos. She quotes, ...we have a candidate... [that] has said things about women that are so
shocking, so demeaning that I simply will not repeat anything here today. And last week I saw this
candidate actually bragging about sexually assaulting women, (Obama, 2016). Obama explains the
terrible acts Trump has done to help her argument in why citizens should vote for Hillary and not
Trump. Obama spoke about the frequent sexual assault Trump has been associated with. Multiple
times, he has spoken inappropriately towards women. By First Lady Obama mentioning this, she is

What are the advantages and disadvantages of Java as compared to the other two?
Your report should include a use case describing the career path of a Java developer in the IT

Java is a platform independent language that makes it very distinct from other languages. The
platform independent quality of java makes it very beneficial for the enterprise. One of the main
features of java development is that it uses stack allocation system for data storage. Java is a
highly secure language and is user and developer friendly. Apart from this, an enterprise can also
reuse the code for developing any other applications on Java platform and these applications are
dynamic in nature.
C# and Java offer common syntax and were developed to reduce the coding bugs that are present
in C and C++. C# uses Visual studio as the programming platform and Java uses eclipse IDE and
several others. C# is used in personal digital assistant and mobile devices utilizing the .net
compact framework. This framework supports different programming languages making it
compatible across various platforms. C# and Java are considered almost similar by the industry
professionals and can be used for database programming, web applications programming, desktop
application programming etc. Objective C is an object oriented programming language that is
used for mobile based application i.e. iPhone and iPad, it may be safe to say that it is Apple

The American Dream Is A Mere Fantasy For The Poor Essay
The American Dream is an idea that needs no introduction: it has been embedded into our minds
since elementary school by our history textbooks, teachers, and parents. It s an unwritten rule for
many adults keep the American Dream alive in our next generation. And why shouldn t we? With
all of the countless rags to riches stories bred through our county s proud history, the American
Dream becomes self evident. America truly is the land of opportunity; so why are most of our
povertystricken citizens stuck at the bottom? Has the dream become a mere fantasy for the poor?
One may say that it is possible for almost all poor Americans to climb the social hierarchy, but
they unwilling to put in the effort necessary. While I do concede that it may be possible to climb
the social ladder, I d argue that the negative affect poverty has on work and mental health rig the
system so that the opportunity simply does not exist for the poor.
Don t get me wrong, the dream is not dead for the poor. There must be a few exceptions to the
rule. A Pew study finds that four percent of people born into poverty work their way up into the
higher classes. Four is not too terrible; the ratio isn t flattering, but some are still achieving the
American Dream. A more unfortunate number is 70 the percent of men and women born, raised,
and perished in poverty (see fig. 1). The overwhelming majority of those born into low income
houses will statistically never escape. Poverty isn t just a problem; it is

Homer Hickam In The Movie October Sky
October Sky is a movie that teaches us a lesson in perseverance, pursuing our goals, and turning
our dreams into reality. Homer Hickam, the main character, was such a person. When he was
confronted with obstacles that caused failure, Homer continued to try. In this essay I would like to
explore the relationship with his teacher, Ms. Riley, why Homer was chosen to go to the science
fair instead of his friends, and Homer s relationship with his father.
Homer had someone who believed in him before the Rocket Boys even started shooting off
successful rockets. Her name was Frieda Riley. Ms. Riley was Homer s 1th grade teacher. Since
the time when Homer brought the rocket into school, she provided Homer with encouragement.
She also convinced Homer and the Rocket Boys to join the science fair. On Homer s 18th
birthday, she gave him a book on rocketry. Homer said it was the best present anyone had ever
given him. Because of a mining accident, Homer was forced to quit school and work in the coal
mine. Ms. Riley didn t want to speak with him after he quit. He soon found out that he hated coal
mining and quit his job to go back to school. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ms. Riley was very happy that Homer returned to school but because of an illness called
Hodgkin s disease, Ms. Riley wasn t able to teach much. Homer and his friends worked day and
night fixing, researching, building, welding, drilling and launching rockets that failed. Out of all
the Rocket Boys, Homer became the leader because he was interested in rocketry the most. After
they won the school science fair, they went on to the nationals but the school could only afford to
send one person to Indianapolis for the National Science Fair. Homer s desire was so great that all
the rocket boys decided Homer should represent Coalwood at the National Science

What Are The Expectations That Shaped Women s Lives In...
1.What does the film show us about expectations that shaped women s lives in sixteenth century
Venice?
Women were expected to be obedient to their families and husbands once they were married.
Desires, wants, and dreams were beyond her control and instead she was expected to remain faithful
to the church, state, and family. This is shown when Marco attempts to get to know his wife better
only to learn that she isn t interested in anything besides making him happy. Women were
expected to have manners and to be well behaved but did not possess the knowledge to carry on a
conversation in the way the courtesans could. Courtesans in comparison, were able to gain the

With this education, she used her gift for poetry to entrance and impress her male court companions
which granted her respect that normal women were unable to gain. Conversation and intellect
became as important in entertaining her male companions as her sexual conduct. The upper class
men of Venice found it amusing to see a womanwith the many talents that Veronica had like
poetry and the ability to sword fight. Her status as courtesan allowed her to enter literary and
political circles unavailable to even the most connected and powerful ladies. By making
connections with the elites in Venice, Veronica was able to attend exclusive events which afforded
her the opportunity to express her poetry through public speech and by battling poetic
contemporaries. This is important because she could further her own influence while showcasing
her ability to compete with men in literary and political circles. These skills afforded Veronica the
opportunity to entertain the infamously homosexual, King Henri III of France in his private
quarters. This is important because the influence and reputation that Veronica Franco earned from
the elites of Venice granted her protection when she needed it. Her elevated status allowed her to
publish two different collections of poems, a rare feat in a society where few women could read or

Essay On Mrs. Miniver
The film, Mrs. Miniver, is a 1942 American romantic war drama film based on the 1940 novel of
the same name. Mrs. Miniver portrays life in England during the Second World War. The film
shows how the life of an unassuming British housewife in rural England is touched by World War
II. She sees her eldest son go to war, finds herself confronting a German pilot who has parachuted
into her idyllic village while her husband is participating in the Dunkirk evacuation, and loses her
daughter in law as a causality. The film opens up with a title sequence describing the setting and
time: Summer 1939 in Belham, England, a fictional village outside the big city of London. Mrs.
Miniver has three kids: young Toby and Judy, and the older Vin. The events of the movie begin
with Mrs. Miniver navigating the streets of London trying to get to a store to buy a hat. The
atmosphere of the country is conveyed by describing the excessive shopping of the locals without a
care for cost. As Lady Beldon puts it, Trying to be better than their betters. Action turns to the
Miniver household, called Starlings. Here, the layout of such a middle class suburban house is

Nevertheless, the festivities are cut short as air sirens are sounded as German airplanes are

The Cathedral By Raymond Carver
Cathedral written by Raymond Carver is a short story that unfolds as a first person narrative of
the main character named Bub. The story beautifully depicts the process of an individual who
transforms from a person with lack of knowledge and ignorant towards knowledgeable soul, due
to an encounter with his wife s blind friend Robert, to an individual that is enlightened. The
cathedral, in this story, is a mere subject brought up at the end of this story which becomes the
object of his enlightenment. Cathedral, tells a tale of Bub who through a blind man receives an
eye opening experience. The narrator starts off as intolerable, but towards the end of the story, with
the assistance of a blind man makes him open minded. He is clobbered... Show more content on

I got up off the sofa with my drink and went to the window to have a look (pg. 5). From the
narrator s consumption of alcohol it helped slowly lower the walls that he had up blocking him to
allow Robert into his space.
Another indication that shows the narrator was hit hard was when he began to realized that what
he read in papers weren t always true. I remember I read somewhere that the blind didn t smoke...
they couldn t see the smoke they exhale... But this blind man smoked his cigarette down to the
nubbin and then lit another one (pg. 6). This moment allowed for the narrator to see that what he
has read isn t always the truth, and that was shown when Robert proved the narrator s preconceived
notations wrong.
The narrator s presumptions led to him being clobbered and irony played a role in the process. Bub
felt that Robert s blindness hindered him from his daily activities such as eating, The blind man
had right away located his foods, he knew just where everything was on his plate. I watched with
admiration as he used his knife and fork on the meat (pg. 7). The narrator was astonished, he didn t
expect Robert to be able to locate the food on his plate nor did he expect him to find and use the
eating utensils with ease. Another example of irony was when the narrator went to turn on the
television and his wife felt he was vainly disrespectful towards Robert. The narrator s wife believed
that since Robert was blind, he wouldn t have a television set. She

Alexandria In Justine
The representation of Alexandria in Lawrence Durrell s Justine In his novel, Justine, Lawrence
Durrell gives his readers a new version of Alexandria, claiming that this is the real city . The novel
would arouse many questions to an Alexandrian reader s mind; does Durrell factually represent the
Cosmopolitan city of the time? Do his characters reflect the kind of life which the Alexandrian
inhabitants had back then? Or is he giving, throughout Justine, a parallel mythical city which he
created out of his imagination? The book clearly reflects Durrell s viewpoint regarding Alexandria;
he exhibits it as an erotic city that enforces a state of total indulgence in sensual pleasures upon its
inhabitants. Moreover, he tackles the city... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Durrell presents two Alexandrias; the Arabic Alexandria which is always related to negative
descriptions and always looked at with resentment and disgust, and the European Alexandria which
comes along with the clean streets and the civilized characters. Durrell exhibits the Arab Quarters
as an undefined mass; he does not name their streets or their cafes; he gives them no identity. In
contrast, the European streets are named, for instance; Rue Foaad, Rue Sherief and Naby Daniel.
The voice of the Arabs is shut; we do not get to see any Egyptian characters except for Nessim,
whom we know lately in the Alexandria Quartet about his national treason; a person who has no
sense of belonging towards Egypt. Nessim also is so westernized; the fact that Nessim s voice
is heard in the novel goes back to his wealthy state and his high social rank that did enable him to
neglect his Egyptian nationality and have a European lifestyle. Hence, Nessim does not represent
the real Egyptian Alexandrian inhabitant of the time. Durrell s claim that only the city is real is
questionable; you cannot write a novel as a representative of Alexandria and its inhabitants while
choosing to foreground only the western voices and background the Arab ones. So Durrell s
colonial ideology is shown in his writing; his tone is racial and biased against the Egyptians.
Moreover, Durrell depicts Muslim Arabs as racist violent people who persecute

Summary Of Louise Erdrich s Love Medicine
Louise Erdrich s book, Love Medicine is said to be an authentic narration when it comes to Native
American life. This essay looks at the similarities between the love triangle that is depicted in
Erdrich s novel, along with the male female relationships which are described in Ruth Landes
ethnographic study of Ojibwe women and gender, which was first published in 1938 (Introduction).
Parallels between the two books certainly exist. One is even able to substitute the characters of
Nector Kashpaw, Marie Kashpaw, and Lulu Lamartine, into an almost identical situation in Landes
book The OjibwaWoman, due to the similarities.
Louise Erdrich herself is a recognized member of the Ojibwe tribe. She also runs an independent
bookstore in Minnesota along with her daughters. The name of the bookstore is Birchbark
Books; it specializes in Native American books, jewelry, and arts. Part of the description on the
website reads Birchbark Books provides a locus for Native intellectual life. We are native owned
(Louise Erdrich is an enrolled Turtle Mountain Chippewa) and our staff is of either Native
background, or exceedingly Native friendly .
Ruth Schlossberg Landes, author of the book The Ojibwa Woman is a cultural anthropologist
from New York City. Landes received her B.C. from New York University along with her Master
s degree in social work. Later, she earned her Ph.D. in anthropology from Columbia University.
During the 1930s at the age of twenty three, as part of her doctoral studies, Landes traveled to
Fort Frances, Ontario to research the lives of Ojibwa women. She pursued her studies aided by a
woman of mixed Scotts Cree descent named Maggie Wilson. Wilson, who grew up amongst the
Ojibwas was also known for her broad knowledge of Ojibwa customs and beliefs. Like other Native
American groups, the Ojibwa were victims of colonization and systematic oppression. Much of
their land was usurped by the government. In addition, many of the Ojibwa cultural traditions were
banned or white washed. All these factors combined resulted in the marginalization of the tribe and
the erosion of their culture.
On account of Love Medicine being the title of Louise Erdrich s book, it makes sense, to begin
with, its description as

Hester Street American Dream Essay
Throughout U.S. history, immigrants have struggled to find a balance between the adoption of
American culture and the preservation of their native cultures. While many immigrants near the
turn of the 20th century desired full assimilation into American culture, like Jake from Joan Micklin
Silver s 1975 film Hester Street, many immigrants today maintain strong ties to their home
countries and native cultures. But, considering the recent increase in political and social discussion
surrounding the topic of immigration, the struggle to balance American and native customs has
intensified for many immigrants. While some tightly cling to their ethnic identities as a reminder
of their roots, others fear xenophobic sentiments or simply desire a new culture, more quickly
adopting an Americanized lifestyle. Whether open to assimilation or not, many immigrants, like
Jake, hope to attain the American Dream . A vision shared by millions of Americans, both
immigrants and native born, the American Dream represents the ability to work hard and achieve
success for oneself, regardless of status, wealth, race, or creed. This search for success in America
has happened for hundreds of years, and is literally the reason the nation was established. Overall,
there are countless ways for immigrants to find a balance in adopting American cultureand
achieving the American Dream, topics not only heavily dealt with in Hester Street, but also
relevant to the immigrants of today.

The Terrestrial And Aquatic Intelligence Of Linda Hogan Essay
In his article The Terrestrial and Aquatic Intelligence of Linda Hogan (1999), Donelle N. Dreese
stresses that water (is) a recurring image for physical and psychological healing in a
contemporary world of sexism, drought, violence, and hunger. (Dreese 1999: 8) The four writers
studied in this thesis use an ecofeminist activism that brings together women and water imagery to
expose male exploitation of women and nature on an aquatic terrain. (Dreese 2002: 73) However,
the researcher s analysis of oppression and exploitation focuses not only on the mutual oppression
of women and elements of nature (here water) but on how one oppressive system is interrelated
with all forms of oppression as well, whether these forms are based on gender (women), natural
elements (water), race (American Indians), or on ethnicity and cultural minority (Nubians). The
interrelatedness of oppressive systems is explained in Huey li Li quotation of what Sheila Collins
states that racism, sexism, class exploitation, and ecological destruction are four interlocking pillars
upon which the structure of patriarchy rests. (Li 289) In addition, Karen J. Warren asserts, Andy
Smith quotes, that because all feminists do or must oppose the logic of domination which keeps
oppressive conceptual frameworks in place, all feminists must also oppose any isms of domination
that are maintained and justified by that logic of domination. (Smith 21) To support the notion of

the first two acts which proves she is the point on which the action pivots. Lady Macbeth
continues to convince and persuade Macbeth into thinking her plan will pay off. Eventually
Macbeth decides against the murder of his king but Lady Macbeth shames him for not being
able to murder, threatening to take away her love from him if he does not. This threat shocks
Macbeth into saying yes . Lady Macbeth outlines her plan to kill King Duncan while asleep as a
guest in their castle. Macbeth had the dagger in his hand ready to kill the King but he just could
not do it until the King started waking up, it was then he knew he had no choice. He regrets his
actions afterwards, But where fore could not I pronounce Amen ? / I had most need of blessing,
and Amen / Stuck in my throat which is proof that he never was willing to kill the King but Lady
Macbeth assures him a little water will wash away their guilt . Macbeth having killed the King
eventually kills several others to cover his tracks. This proves Lady Macbeth transformed her
husband by saying things such as Are you a man? She made him feel at fault so things could be
done her way. If it weren t for Lady Macbeth, Macbeth would have never have killed anyone. This

Persuasive Essay On Cheating On Homework
In Survey I, 91.9% of the participants reported that they have cheated on at least one homework
assignment; however, when asked why they receive answers, 13.5% of the participants stated that
they do not receive answers (Appendix D). Therefore, it can be concluded that some students
believe that cheating on homework assignments is not considered as immoral. This may further
explain why students cheat.
Furthermore, 91.9% of students reported cheating at least once, albeit 51.4% of students stating
that it s bothersome when others cheat (Appendix D). This is due to self serving bias, which is
when people blame other individuals when their action negatively affects them, while they blame
the situation when their act negatively affects others (Boyes, 2013). For example, if someone gets
into a car accident, one automatically assumes that person is a bad driver, while if one gets into a
car accident himself, one will find excuses and say it was not their own fault. Similarly, when a
student cheats in high school, they find reasons to justify that action, even when they know it is
wrong, which is the case with 62.2% of students in this survey (Appendix D). However, when
another student cheats in the same class, it is bothersome to some students because they see it as
unfair and disrespectful on the student s part.
Moreover, 24.3% of students reported that they cheat because they want to help their friends out
(Appendix D). Therefore, when they see others, who are not their friend

Romero Britto Research Paper
Romero Britto is a twentieth and twenty first century pop artist who was born in Recife, Brazil
on October 6, 1963. He is the seventh child of nine and he is currently married to Cheryl Britto
with a son named Brendan. Romero lived an adequate life with his brothers and sister as a child
and was first introduced to art when he was just a young child. He did not capture the full
understanding of becoming an artist for a career until the day his older brother showed him
books that were about famous artists such as Toulouse Launtrec. Britto became inspired and
began copying these fine art pieces from the books the next day. Originally, Britto embraced art
to escape from the real world even through his early twenties when he was working to get into
law school. He of course eventually dropped out of law school to study art in Europe. Britto
traveled to Paris where he was introduced to the works and artistic techniques of Matisse and
Picasso. Romero has explored with many media including watercolor, pen and ink, serigraphy,

How Did The Treaty Of Versailles Punish Germany
The Treaty of Versailles is a peace treaty, where it basically punishes Germany. It makes them
powerless to a point that they cannot be able to create another war. This treaty was way too harsh
on the Germans. It is a fact that they were not the only ones fighting in the war, and they should
not be the only one, who should be punished. Everyone must take responsibilities for their drastic
decisions. All of the major countries had a role in this war, not only Germany. The Germans were
stripped down of everything they had. It left Germans helplessly and made to live in poverty. In
order to pay off the damages that were made, they were treated like slaves. Instead of making
peace with Germany, the Treaty of Versailles

Abstract
Location based tracking is becoming more and more common due to the ever changing
technological advances in the world today. Gone are the days where no one knew your location
unless they were physically with you. Today, location based tracking seems like the new trend in
society with companies such as Foursquare and EchoEcho. Some wonder what makes a person use
services like this to share with the world. That question may never be answered, but what is known
is that some individuals use it to share their favorite restaurant, bar, and hangout locations while
others use it to pinpoint the location of their children. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that they have ever fully read the privacy policy of any technological tool? Not everyone does but
should so that they are aware of what information is being collected and how that information is
being stored. Most privacy policies are long and tedious and consumers usually just click the tab
that says I agree so that they can continue on with their activities. According to Google s privacy

Essay #2
Essay#2 Sociological exploration or research is a complex process. At what time a scientist
attempts to figure out the way the natural world works, he will utilize experiments to search for the
cause and effect. In other words, they construct an experiment so they can observe or evaluate any
change in one entity and cause another to vary in a repetitive way. When things change within an
experiment they are called variables. A variable is a characteristic that can change in value or
magnitude under different conditions. With experiments, there are three types of variables,
independent variable, dependent variable and control variable. The independent variable is a ...

Step four you will collect data, this is a critical step in the research process. It provides information
needed to solve or explain the research questions. Step five involves analyzing results. In this
step, all the information that has been collected to answer the question is compared to the
variables to determine the difference. Step six involves presenting the finding of the research.
This is where you will validate or confirm your theory by the data collected and analyzed finally
presenting your findings or your theory. No matter what approach that is used in research, the
researchers want to maximize the study s reliability which is the consistency with which the same
measure produces similar results time after time. Researchers also strive for validity which is the
degree to which a measure is accurate and really measures what it claims to measure. The six steps
of the scientific method in research and the relationship with between cause and correlation can be
explained by saying that correlation merely occur when we detect change in two simultaneously;
causation exist when we can demonstrate in one influence that causes the researchers need to
establish correlation and time order and rule out alternative explanations. A survey is a widely

This gave rise to Russian separatists in the eastern part of the country(Englund Fears ) who waged

Social Issues In Toronto
Looking into one of the popular area in Toronto (Jane and Finch) is amazing research to do, and
gazing on few things youths in the community is facing the most will provide background how
my research topic came to existence. Before the advent and proliferation of the media, this place
was one of the most popular areas of residence among the middle income earners. Observing the
area problem from a macro level is the impact of mass media within the contemporary society; is a

One of these factors could be lack of awareness and understanding. According to Monsebraaten,
there is a thoughtful level of lack of commitment in the community (2015). Society is not looking
closer to what has been happening in the community about the violence there are experiencing;
this is normalized in the community. Many residents said they were unhappy with the services
that they are receiving from cops at 31 Division and would not report a crime if they witnessed
one or were victims of one (Share News, 2009). Therefore, youths refuse to seek help, and then
deal with problems the way they understand since they cannot find good role models to follow they
path. According to Ontario Ministry of Children and Youth Services says lack of understanding is
affecting everybody in the neighbourhood, which increases violence from many backgrounds that
includes poverty and discrimination. Good local programming often is not available or sustainable,
and role models and mentors can be hard to find (2015). It is important to understand that the
government are the people. Base on the facts, the root of Jane and Finch is not a fault of
government, but the fault of the society where people of Jane and Finch cannot govern themselves.

There are various ways in which to improve general reading skills, three of the ways include
extensive reading, repeated reading and speed reading. Extensive reading can be practiced by a
large quantity of text read over a certain period of time. This allows reader to be exposed to a
wide rage of vocabulary that adds to the readers general knowledge. This new knowledge could
later on aid them when reading a different text and come across the same word only now that
they are familiarised with the word, therefore they would understand what they are reading
more. By practicing this readers are increasing reading performance thus they can take on more
challenging texts. Repeated reading is when readers read the same text several times either to
themselves or aloud. This then effectively develops the fluency of reading, as well as allows the
reader to analyse the text more deeply. Speed reading courses are created to assist in increasing
the reading speed of readers. Readers learn to skim read texts to decrease reading time but at the

Philosophy of Montessori Education
Education should no longer be mostly imparting of knowledge, but must take new path, seeking
the release of potentialities. Discuss the statement with reference to Montessori philosophy. Dr
Maria Montessori started her work in the field of education and child psychology, when she had
already obtained a doctor s degree in medicine and surgery. Her scientific training and experience
were exceptionally broad based and unique. Her approach to education encompassed the whole
development of man from birth to adulthood. The most important contribution of her work, in the
present day, is the focussed attention on the fact that no attempt to solve social and moral problems

Dr Montessori believed that for the psychic pattern to reveal itself, two conditions must be
fulfilled, first, the environment that he interacts to understand the limit of his universe, second,
the freedom to reveal himself. She emphasised that when these two conditions are met, the
psychic life of the child will not reach its potential and his personality will be stunted. Dr
Montessori strongly felt that, the work of man on the earth is related to his spirit, to his creative
intelligence, therefore this spirit and creative intelligence must be the fulcrum of his existence,
and of all the workings of human body. It is about this fulcrum, the behaviour and physical
economy is organised. Dr Montessori says that the whole man develops within this spiritual
halo and therefore first care given to the new born babe, over riding all others, must be a care for
his mental life, and not just for his bodily life. Dr Montessori described the time line of 3 yrs
from birth, as the period of Spiritual Embryo , and all the non physical qualities namely his
intelligence, temperament, personality, spirit and soul develop in this stage. Dr Montessori
describes that development of child is due to an unconscious power, a vital force, she borrowed a

Essay Colorado Marijuana Legalization
Marijuana in the United States has been a big issue for decades dating back to when it was first
made illegal in 1937. Using scare tactics, propaganda, and false facts, the government decided to
classify the plant as a schedule one drug along with substances such as ecstasy, LSD, and heroin.
Marijuana has since become a more common and socially acceptable (Not by the government)
drug in recent years. This past year Colorado, Washington, and Oregon had decided to vote on the
issue of legalizing marijuana for recreational use. Focusing on Colorado, Amendment 64 passed on

about continuing research, Nearly all agreed on the need for further medical education about
medical marijuana. With 91% agreeing that it should be explored deeper, it shows that many
people don t actually know the truth of how helpful or harmful marijuana can be. There is one
big problem about the testing of marijuana; the government still classifies it as illegal. They
refuse to put it down to a schedule two drug along with cocaine and morphine which they
classify as having medical value. Maia Szalavitz of Time magazine compared the addiction rate
of marijuana users against tobacco and other hard drugs. She stated, Marijuana is much less
addictive, coming in at 9% to 10%. In contrast, 23% to 25% of heroin users get addicted, along
with 15% of alcohol users and 15% to 20% of those who use cocaine. Nicotine in cigarettes
addicts about up to 30% of those who smoke, along with being more harmful to the body
according to Robert Melamede. Marijuana seems like it would be a legitimate candidate for
medicinal use country wide when compared to alcohol which is legal, cocaine, and morphine
which have accepted medical use but also can be more harmful to the user. But aside from medical
and recreational uses, the benefits for the states that legalize it can be enormous.

In 1923, excavators from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, led by Herbert E. Winlock (Museum
Egyptologist), found fragments of statues belonging to the time of Hatshepsut when they began
clearing the area in front of the temples of Hatshepsut and Mentuhotep II. As a result further
excavations of this area were undertaken by the Metropolitan Museum during the seasons of 1926
27, 1927 28, and 1928 29. These excavations were predominantly carried out in two important
locations: a depression southeast of Deir el Bahri temple (also called the HatshepsutHole ) and a
quarry northeast of the temple. [1] The Metropolitan Museum crew started to reassemble these
fragments and by 1931 the reconstructions were complete and offered a rather large collection of
statues and objects from Hatshepsut s temple. More statues have survived of Hatshepsut than any
other Egyptian Pharaoh. Ironically, this was due to the destruction of these statues a mere twenty
years after they were created.
Hatshepsut ascended to the Egyptian throne in 1473 B.C and co ruled with her stepson and
nephew, Thutmose III. While Hatshepsut was not first woman in Egypt to be a king, she was
nonetheless, the most important in terms of the influence of her reign on the culture of ancient Egypt
. During her reign as Pharaoh there was an explosion of artistic creativity, which can be seen
clearly in the reconstruction of her temple at Deir el Bahri in western Thebes. Deir el Bahri is
considered to be one of the great

The Epidemic Of Child Labour
You cannot escape the responsibilities of tomorrow by evading it today
Abraham Lincoln
The prevalence of child labour is a blot on society. It is a national disgrace that millions of
children in this country have to spend a major part of their daily routine in hazardous works. The
problem of child labour in India is the result of traditional attitudes, urbanisation, industrialisation,
migration, lack of education, etc. However, extreme poverty is the main cause of child labour.
However, this miracle idea falls short after identifying the brutal cons that develop along with Child
Labour. Youth are weak and can be susceptible to damage especially with the demanding jobs of a
factory. Simply stating, a child will wilt when put to work with hard tasks that occur in factories.
Just imagine how this effect to continue onto the descendants of this child. The business of Child
Labour where children must succumb to the control of atrocious lifestyles, which, with unstable
governments immerse a child in the hazardous struggle of unsafe workstations, poor wages, and an
immeasurable negative affect on its mind.
One argument used to corrobate the fact that Child Labour had a positive effect on the economy
was the immense change in salary costs from adults to children. The transference between adult
wages to children wages secured a high access rate for the factory and company owners. Children
were paid a wage to support their family. Without a father or mother bringing income,

Americans Attitude Change in the 60s Essay
Question 1: For many Americans, the 1960s began with JFK s Age of Camelot, an era that seemed
to exude confidence in American institutions. Yet, by the early 1970s, those expectations and
attitudes seemed to be replaced by a sense of bitterness and cynicism. Discuss and analyze the
causes and consequences of this profound attitudinal shift.
Question 3: How did official US policy towards Vietnam change between 1950 and 1975? How did
American leaders link events in Vietnam to national securityinterests? How did the American public
react to the war in the sixties and early seventies?
Answer: These two questions are so intertwined with one another that combining the two answers is
the most efficient way of telling the story. Vietnam was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within the center of this division lay Berlin. Russia s communist intentions were becoming clearer
to western powers. Stalin had no plans to back down from further conflict. In 1946, Churchill
delivered the Iron Curtain speech, symbolizing future relations with the communist powers. In
1947, U.S. president Truman established his famous doctrine of containment policy, which outlined
in vague terms the west s distain and containment intentions of further communist expansion by
Russia. In 1948, Americans witnessed the pressurized showdown in Berlin between western forces
and Russian occupiers, which eventually led to the division of Germany, and the construction of the
Berlin Wall. Once, the Russians began developing and testing nuclear weapons, and the subsequent
development of space flight, Americans placed their lives in the hands of their government to
handle this new, Cold War.
The baby boom generation grew up in this environment. They grew up with missile drills and
McCarthy s witch hunt of communists within the government. Communism was something to be
feared, and America knew it.
The election of 1960 brought hope to much of America, despite the close margin of victory for
the Kennedy camp. JFK himself had been a war hero, and was viewed by Americans as
determined to win the cold war. JFK was an attractive man, had a beautiful wife, and a seemingly
perfect family. The best and the

Copper s Atomic Structure Essay
Copper is the 29th element in the periodic table, located more specifically at group 11, period 4.
Because of its chemical and physical attributes, it is a transition metal, which denotes high boiling
and melting points. Both a conductor of heat and electricity, Copper is ductile and malleable. Its
symbol Cu derives from the Latin cuprum. Copper is also valued for its two for one practicality: it
is a vital nutrient that has antibacterial properties. Aside from what many people generally know
about Copper (the common knowledge, so to speak), there is much information regarding its atomic
buildup.
Every element s atoms are composed of three main subatomic particles: neutrons, electrons and
protons. Located in the atom s nucleus, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Copper has atomic number 29 and mass number 63.546 u. With that information, one can deduce
that Copper has 29 protons (the atomic number) and 35 neutrons (mass number minus atomic
number). For all decimal cases, mass number is rounded up to the closest integer, so Copper is
listed as having 35 neutrons instead of 34.546 neutrons. This discrepancy exists because Copper
s atomic mass is the average atomic mass of a mixture of isotopes (in this case, Copper atoms
that differ in their neutrons count). For the purpose of this essay, we should only mention two
isotopes of Copper: the two stable, naturally occurring isotopes. These isotopes are Cu with mass
number 63 and a percent abundance of 69.17 (while still keeping atomic number of 29) and Cu
with mass number 65 and a percent abundance of 30.83 (once again, atomic number 29). Copper
has 27 other isotopes, whose mass numbers range from 52 to 80, but they are radioactive, highly
unstable, and sustain very short half lives. As stated before, a proton carries a positive charge and
an electron has a negative charge. So, as logic and basic mathematics would suggest, an atom is
always electrically neutral when the number of protons equals the number of electrons and the two
cumulative charges cancel. For Copper to be neutral, its electron count must match its atomic
number 29, so one can infer

The Real Estate Agents And Economists
In the summer of 2006, the housing market in the United States was on a sustained rise, with
consumer credit flowing between hands of buyers and sellers, and average Americans finally
living the dream by making steps to live in their dreams homes. The real estate agents and
economists looked forward to the future with excited eyes and deep pockets, looking to have a
fulfilling career of success and family enjoyment. One could picture happy mothers taking scenic
rides along the countryside with her daughters fathers playing a stress free game of catch with his
boys, and the family having a bucolic picnic at the local park. Little did they know or guess that in
the coming months of 2007 and 2008, they would lose their homes and idyllic... Show more content

As the years turned and the housing market got bigger and bigger, with great gains and with no
apparent losses, investors thought it would be a great idea to be more liberal with their money,
especially in the ways of credit, investments, and lending. New ideas and new terms were
developed, like adjustable loans, 0% down for a home, interest only loans, negative
amortization, and zero down loans. A whole new science was added to the buy sell game, a level
that had never been tread on before, and those who were the best at figuring it out, raising the
bar, doing the most, and playing the system stood to make millions upon millions of dollars in
legal, honest ways. Because of the before mentioned perceived security , people made riskier
moves with higher payoffs. Generally, the moves worked, and those who made calculated risks
moved quickly up the latter, instead of being stepped over for promotions and for money. Hard,
fast, fresh cash motivated more than proven business models and trends, and unbeknownst to those
playing the game, the market sat upon an inflation bubble that was about ready to pop. Unlike a
balloon that pops as soon a sharp needle penetrates it s gentle exterior, the housing market didn t
just crash all at once. It was process that took time, but a

Forced Vital Capacity Case Study
Purpose and Prediction In this study I am observing the effects of gender on forced vital
capacity (FVC) and the relationship between torso length, height, and torso/height ratio on
forced vital capacity. To look at FVC I am interested in looking at the largest amount of air a
person can forcefully exhale and continue exhaling for 6 seconds after breathing in as deeply as
a person can. If gender has an effect on FVC then males will have a greater FVC than the FVC
of females. If there is a correlation between height and FVC, then as height increases so will FVC.
If there is a correlation between torso length and FVC then the longer a torso the greater the FVC
will be. If there is a correlation between torso/height ratio and FVC then the greater... Show more

a newbie investor just learning the ropes, there is a very good chance that you should
concentrate on mutual funds for the bulk of your investments. Mutual funds and their close
cousin, exchange traded funds or ETF s, are a basket of securities which enables you to make
one purchase in a particular fund. This can give you instant diversification and sometimes asset
allocation. There are over 10,000 different mutual funds and exchange traded funds. Some hold
all stocks, some hold all bonds, some funds hold a mix of both stocks and bonds and some are
very specific in what securities they hold in their portfolio. Maybe they don t have any stocks of
companies that are involved in alcohol, firearms or tobacco as one example, or maybe they are
concentrated on precious metals or some other commodity. Something else to consider when
deciding upon your diversification, just as different asset classes perform differently over time,
foreign securities also perform differently versus American securities...the point is that

The Dred Scott V. Sanford Case
The Supreme Court is the highest court of the United States of America. With this title they have
the final say about the decisions for the country. However the Supreme Court can make mistakes
and have so before. The case considered the worst Supreme Court decision among many scholars
is the Dred Scott V. Sanford case from the pre civil war era. In which time slavery was a very hot
topic between the states. In this case it was determined that a slave was not only not a citizen of the
United Statesbut also property (our documents). This court ruling made useless of the Missouri
compromise of 1850 which made states above the 36В°30 line Free states and all below the line
slaves states (History). This decision was eventually overturned by the Civil War amendments
the 13th and 14th which stated that slavery is illegal in all states not only ones in rebellion and
that all people born in the united states are citizens including people of color (our documents). To
know a little background about Dred Scott, he was born in Virginia around 1795 but it is not
certain of the exact date (biography). His original birth name was Sam Scott, but after the death
of his brother, he changed it to Dred scott in mourning of his brother (Biography). Dred Scott
moved from Virginia to Alabama with his original owner who is believed to be Peter Blow
(Biography). Dred Scott was then sold to military surgeon John Emmerson (Biography). He then
fell in love with a different slave owners slave and

Introductory. Something That Humans All Have In Common,
Introductory Something that humans all have in common, is aging. Every single one of us ages
and as we age a lot of us get to have a friend along the way. That friend is aching pain. This aching
pain can stem from a certain disease, named osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is the most common
rheumatic disease, primarily affecting the articular cartilage and the subchondral bone of a synovial
joint, eventually resulting in joint failure. (Fransen, 2015) Chances are that someone close to you
has osteoarthritis as it is a very prevalent chronic disease. Living with a chronic disease does not
bring much joy and preventative measures can be taken to avoid the pain or interventions can be
used to make the pain bearable. Some interventions that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Exercise is something that can easily be taught to patients and nurses have the prime opportunity
to educate patients that are at risk or have osteoarthritis before they need a joint replacement
surgery. Mobility is a huge part of each individual s life and joints play a crucial role in one s
mobility. When a joint s function decreases a person s mobility, many other things are at risk to
decrease as well such as skin integrity and the cardiovascular system. As a nurse, it is important to
treat patients holistically and when one part is not functioning, such as the joint, it is our job to
bring function back to improve one s health overall.
Methods
Many of the studies reviewed followed similar methods to collecting data related to exercise and
knee osteoarthritis. There were many systematic reviews that supported this PICO question and
determined whether land based therapeutic exercise is beneficial for people with knee
osteoarthritis in terms of reduced joint pain or improved physical function and quality of life. All
of the studies had searched various databases, which included, MEDLINE, EMBASE, The
Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), the Cumulative Index to Nursing and
Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), the Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro), Google

Impact Of Pollution On Ozone Depletion
Jamie Kanzler Extended Essay: What is the impact of pollution on ozone depletion? Section 1:
Introduction Air is classified as a mixture because it is made up of many different elements. These
elements include 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, 1% Argon, .4% water vapor, and .04% carbon
dioxide. Human activity has a very large effect on the air in our environment. Over time, humans
have caused the once clean air to become polluted with chemicals. These chemicals are called
pollutants. A pollutant is defined as a substance created from human activity, that is present at a
concentration greater than its natural levels, and has a harmful effect on the environment. Many
different pollutants exist in our air today and the concentration of these chemicals causes their
toxicity to vary. Generally, pollutants are classified into two groups: primary and secondary
pollutants. A primary pollutant is a chemical that enters directly into the atmosphere. Common
primary pollutants include nitrogen monoxide, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide,
and volatile organic compounds. A volatile organic compound is a compound of carbon that
participates in a photochemical reaction in the atmosphere. The second type of pollutant, a
secondary pollutant, is produced when primary pollutants go through a chemical reaction with
environmental constituents in the atmosphere. Examples of secondary pollutants include sulfuric
acid, nitrogen dioxide, and ozone. These pollutants are modified

to the kitchen for cleaning. Afterwards, the workers on dishwasher duty wash and sanitize the

  • 2. Michelle Obama Speech Analysis In the midst of the 2016 election, First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama gave a speech in New Hampshire regarding the candidates. Donald Trump was facing Hillary Clinton; and in support, Michelle Obama presented a Speech On Donald Trump s Alleged Treatment Of Women. As stated in the title, Trump had recently made rude remarks regarding women, and Michelle Obamawas using this as a learning lesson for anyone looking to vote for Trump. She made it a point to vote for Hillary by not only stating why not to vote for Trump, but also listing her many accomplishments throughout her lifetime. Michelle Obama was able to create an effective and persuasive speech by strongly stating Trump s wrongdoings, passionately listing Clinton s achievements, and frightening us of the possible future for our children. Obama s reasoning develops ideas that help connect her claim and evidence using the rhetoric device of ethos. She quotes, ...we have a candidate... [that] has said things about women that are so shocking, so demeaning that I simply will not repeat anything here today. And last week I saw this candidate actually bragging about sexually assaulting women, (Obama, 2016). Obama explains the terrible acts Trump has done to help her argument in why citizens should vote for Hillary and not Trump. Obama spoke about the frequent sexual assault Trump has been associated with. Multiple times, he has spoken inappropriately towards women. By First Lady Obama mentioning this, she is ... • 4. The American Dream Is A Mere Fantasy For The Poor Essay The American Dream is an idea that needs no introduction: it has been embedded into our minds since elementary school by our history textbooks, teachers, and parents. It s an unwritten rule for many adults keep the American Dream alive in our next generation. And why shouldn t we? With all of the countless rags to riches stories bred through our county s proud history, the American Dream becomes self evident. America truly is the land of opportunity; so why are most of our povertystricken citizens stuck at the bottom? Has the dream become a mere fantasy for the poor? One may say that it is possible for almost all poor Americans to climb the social hierarchy, but they unwilling to put in the effort necessary. While I do concede that it may be possible to climb the social ladder, I d argue that the negative affect poverty has on work and mental health rig the system so that the opportunity simply does not exist for the poor. Don t get me wrong, the dream is not dead for the poor. There must be a few exceptions to the rule. A Pew study finds that four percent of people born into poverty work their way up into the higher classes. Four is not too terrible; the ratio isn t flattering, but some are still achieving the American Dream. A more unfortunate number is 70 the percent of men and women born, raised, and perished in poverty (see fig. 1). The overwhelming majority of those born into low income houses will statistically never escape. Poverty isn t just a problem; it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Homer Hickam, the main character, was such a person. When he was confronted with obstacles that caused failure, Homer continued to try. In this essay I would like to explore the relationship with his teacher, Ms. Riley, why Homer was chosen to go to the science fair instead of his friends, and Homer s relationship with his father. Homer had someone who believed in him before the Rocket Boys even started shooting off successful rockets. Her name was Frieda Riley. Ms. Riley was Homer s 1th grade teacher. Since the time when Homer brought the rocket into school, she provided Homer with encouragement. She also convinced Homer and the Rocket Boys to join the science fair. On Homer s 18th birthday, she gave him a book on rocketry. Homer said it was the best present anyone had ever given him. Because of a mining accident, Homer was forced to quit school and work in the coal mine. Ms. Riley didn t want to speak with him after he quit. • 6. What Are The Expectations That Shaped Women s Lives In... 1.What does the film show us about expectations that shaped women s lives in sixteenth century Venice? Women were expected to be obedient to their families and husbands once they were married. Desires, wants, and dreams were beyond her control and instead she was expected to remain faithful to the church, state, and family. This is shown when Marco attempts to get to know his wife better only to learn that she isn t interested in anything besides making him happy. With this education, she used her gift for poetry to entrance and impress her male court companions which granted her respect that normal women were unable to gain. Conversation and intellect became as important in entertaining her male companions as her sexual conduct. Her status as courtesan allowed her to enter literary and political circles unavailable to even the most connected and powerful ladies. By making connections with the elites in Venice, Veronica was able to attend exclusive events which afforded her the opportunity to express her poetry through public speech and by battling poetic contemporaries. This is important because she could further her own influence while showcasing her ability to compete with men in literary and political circles. These skills afforded Veronica the opportunity to entertain the infamously homosexual, King Henri III of France in his private quarters. This is important because the influence and reputation that Veronica Franco earned from the elites of Venice granted her protection when she needed it. • 7. Essay On Mrs. Miniver The film, Mrs. Miniver, is a 1942 American romantic war drama film based on the 1940 novel of the same name. Mrs. Miniver portrays life in England during the Second World War. The film shows how the life of an unassuming British housewife in rural England is touched by World War II. She sees her eldest son go to war, finds herself confronting a German pilot who has parachuted into her idyllic village while her husband is participating in the Dunkirk evacuation, and loses her daughter in law as a causality. The film opens up with a title sequence describing the setting and time: Summer 1939 in Belham, England, a fictional village outside the big city of London. Mrs. Miniver has three kids: young Toby and Judy, and the older Vin. The events of the movie begin with Mrs. Miniver navigating the streets of London trying to get to a store to buy a hat. The atmosphere of the country is conveyed by describing the excessive shopping of the locals without a care for cost. As Lady Beldon puts it, Trying to be better than their betters. • 8. The Cathedral By Raymond Carver Cathedral written by Raymond Carver is a short story that unfolds as a first person narrative of the main character named Bub. The story beautifully depicts the process of an individual who transforms from a person with lack of knowledge and ignorant towards knowledgeable soul, due to an encounter with his wife s blind friend Robert, to an individual that is enlightened. The cathedral, in this story, is a mere subject brought up at the end of this story which becomes the object of his enlightenment. Cathedral, tells a tale of Bub who through a blind man receives an eye opening experience. The narrator starts off as intolerable, but towards the end of the story, with the assistance of a blind man makes him open minded. He is clobbered... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I got up off the sofa with my drink and went to the window to have a look (pg. 5). From the narrator s consumption of alcohol it helped slowly lower the walls that he had up blocking him to allow Robert into his space. Another indication that shows the narrator was hit hard was when he began to realized that what he read in papers weren t always true. I remember I read somewhere that the blind didn t smoke... they couldn t see the smoke they exhale... But this blind man smoked his cigarette down to the nubbin and then lit another one (pg. 6). This moment allowed for the narrator to see that what he has read isn t always the truth, and that was shown when Robert proved the narrator s preconceived notations wrong. The narrator s presumptions led to him being clobbered and irony played a role in the process. Bub felt that Robert s blindness hindered him from his daily activities such as eating, The blind man had right away located his foods, he knew just where everything was on his plate. I watched with admiration as he used his knife and fork on the meat (pg. 7). The narrator was astonished, he didn t expect Robert to be able to locate the food on his plate nor did he expect him to find and use the eating utensils with ease. Another example of irony was when the narrator went to turn on the television and his wife felt he was vainly disrespectful towards Robert. • 9. Alexandria In Justine The representation of Alexandria in Lawrence Durrell s Justine In his novel, Justine, Lawrence Durrell gives his readers a new version of Alexandria, claiming that this is the real city . The novel would arouse many questions to an Alexandrian reader s mind; does Durrell factually represent the Cosmopolitan city of the time? Do his characters reflect the kind of life which the Alexandrian inhabitants had back then? Or is he giving, throughout Justine, a parallel mythical city which he created out of his imagination? The book clearly reflects Durrell s viewpoint regarding Alexandria; he exhibits it as an erotic city that enforces a state of total indulgence in sensual pleasures upon its inhabitants. Moreover, he tackles the city... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Durrell presents two Alexandrias; the Arabic Alexandria which is always related to negative descriptions and always looked at with resentment and disgust, and the European Alexandria which comes along with the clean streets and the civilized characters. Durrell exhibits the Arab Quarters as an undefined mass; he does not name their streets or their cafes; he gives them no identity. In contrast, the European streets are named, for instance; Rue Foaad, Rue Sherief and Naby Daniel. The voice of the Arabs is shut; we do not get to see any Egyptian characters except for Nessim, whom we know lately in the Alexandria Quartet about his national treason; a person who has no sense of belonging towards Egypt. Nessim also is so westernized; the fact that Nessim s voice is heard in the novel goes back to his wealthy state and his high social rank that did enable him to neglect his Egyptian nationality and have a European lifestyle. Hence, Nessim does not represent the real Egyptian Alexandrian inhabitant of the time. Durrell s claim that only the city is real is questionable; you cannot write a novel as a representative of Alexandria and its inhabitants while choosing to foreground only the western voices and background the Arab ones. So Durrell s colonial ideology is shown in his writing; his tone is racial and biased against the Egyptians. Moreover, Durrell depicts Muslim Arabs as racist violent people who persecute ... • 10. Summary Of Louise Erdrich s Love Medicine Louise Erdrich s book, Love Medicine is said to be an authentic narration when it comes to Native American life. This essay looks at the similarities between the love triangle that is depicted in Erdrich s novel, along with the male female relationships which are described in Ruth Landes ethnographic study of Ojibwe women and gender, which was first published in 1938 (Introduction). Parallels between the two books certainly exist. One is even able to substitute the characters of Nector Kashpaw, Marie Kashpaw, and Lulu Lamartine, into an almost identical situation in Landes book The OjibwaWoman, due to the similarities. Louise Erdrich herself is a recognized member of the Ojibwe tribe. She also runs an independent bookstore in Minnesota along with her daughters. The name of the bookstore is Birchbark Books; it specializes in Native American books, jewelry, and arts. Part of the description on the website reads Birchbark Books provides a locus for Native intellectual life. We are native owned (Louise Erdrich is an enrolled Turtle Mountain Chippewa) and our staff is of either Native background, or exceedingly Native friendly . Ruth Schlossberg Landes, author of the book The Ojibwa Woman is a cultural anthropologist from New York City. Landes received her B.C. from New York University along with her Master s degree in social work. Later, she earned her Ph.D. in anthropology from Columbia University. During the 1930s at the age of twenty three, as part of her doctoral studies, Landes traveled to Fort Frances, Ontario to research the lives of Ojibwa women. She pursued her studies aided by a woman of mixed Scotts Cree descent named Maggie Wilson. Wilson, who grew up amongst the Ojibwas was also known for her broad knowledge of Ojibwa customs and beliefs. Like other Native American groups, the Ojibwa were victims of colonization and systematic oppression. Much of their land was usurped by the government. In addition, many of the Ojibwa cultural traditions were banned or white washed. All these factors combined resulted in the marginalization of the tribe and the erosion of their culture. On account of Love Medicine being the title of Louise Erdrich s book, it makes sense, to begin with, its description as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Hester Street American Dream Essay Throughout U.S. history, immigrants have struggled to find a balance between the adoption of American culture and the preservation of their native cultures. While many immigrants near the turn of the 20th century desired full assimilation into American culture, like Jake from Joan Micklin Silver s 1975 film Hester Street, many immigrants today maintain strong ties to their home countries and native cultures. But, considering the recent increase in political and social discussion surrounding the topic of immigration, the struggle to balance American and native customs has intensified for many immigrants. While some tightly cling to their ethnic identities as a reminder of their roots, others fear xenophobic sentiments or simply desire a new culture, more quickly adopting an Americanized lifestyle. Whether open to assimilation or not, many immigrants, like Jake, hope to attain the American Dream . A vision shared by millions of Americans, both immigrants and native born, the American Dream represents the ability to work hard and achieve success for oneself, regardless of status, wealth, race, or creed. This search for success in America has happened for hundreds of years, and is literally the reason the nation was established. Dreese stresses that water (is) a recurring image for physical and psychological healing in a contemporary world of sexism, drought, violence, and hunger. (Dreese 1999: 8) The four writers studied in this thesis use an ecofeminist activism that brings together women and water imagery to expose male exploitation of women and nature on an aquatic terrain. (Dreese 2002: 73) However, the researcher s analysis of oppression and exploitation focuses not only on the mutual oppression of women and elements of nature (here water) but on how one oppressive system is interrelated with all forms of oppression as well, whether these forms are based on gender (women), natural elements (water), race (American Indians), or on ethnicity and cultural minority (Nubians). The interrelatedness of oppressive systems is explained in Huey li Li quotation of what Sheila Collins states that racism, sexism, class exploitation, and ecological destruction are four interlocking pillars upon which the structure of patriarchy rests. • 21. Persuasive Essay On Cheating On Homework In Survey I, 91.9% of the participants reported that they have cheated on at least one homework assignment; however, when asked why they receive answers, 13.5% of the participants stated that they do not receive answers (Appendix D). Therefore, it can be concluded that some students believe that cheating on homework assignments is not considered as immoral. This may further explain why students cheat. Furthermore, 91.9% of students reported cheating at least once, albeit 51.4% of students stating that it s bothersome when others cheat (Appendix D). This is due to self serving bias, which is when people blame other individuals when their action negatively affects them, while they blame the situation when their act negatively affects others (Boyes, 2013). For example, if someone gets into a car accident, one automatically assumes that person is a bad driver, while if one gets into a car accident himself, one will find excuses and say it was not their own fault. Similarly, when a student cheats in high school, they find reasons to justify that action, even when they know it is wrong, which is the case with 62.2% of students in this survey (Appendix D). However, when another student cheats in the same class, it is bothersome to some students because they see it as unfair and disrespectful on the student s part. Moreover, 24.3% of students reported that they cheat because they want to help their friends out (Appendix D). Therefore, when they see others, who are not their friend ... She emphasised that when these two conditions are met, the psychic life of the child will not reach its potential and his personality will be stunted. Dr Montessori strongly felt that, the work of man on the earth is related to his spirit, to his creative intelligence, therefore this spirit and creative intelligence must be the fulcrum of his existence, and of all the workings of human body. With 91% agreeing that it should be explored deeper, it shows that many people don t actually know the truth of how helpful or harmful marijuana can be. There is one big problem about the testing of marijuana; the government still classifies it as illegal. They refuse to put it down to a schedule two drug along with cocaine and morphine which they classify as having medical value. As a result further excavations of this area were undertaken by the Metropolitan Museum during the seasons of 1926 27, 1927 28, and 1928 29. Its symbol Cu derives from the Latin cuprum. Copper is also valued for its two for one practicality: it is a vital nutrient that has antibacterial properties. Copper has atomic number 29 and mass number 63.546 u. With that information, one can deduce that Copper has 29 protons (the atomic number) and 35 neutrons (mass number minus atomic number). For all decimal cases, mass number is rounded up to the closest integer, so Copper is listed as having 35 neutrons instead of 34.546 neutrons. This discrepancy exists because Copper s atomic mass is the average atomic mass of a mixture of isotopes (in this case, Copper atoms that differ in their neutrons count). For the purpose of this essay, we should only mention two isotopes of Copper: the two stable, naturally occurring isotopes. These isotopes are Cu with mass number 63 and a percent abundance of 69.17 (while still keeping atomic number of 29) and Cu with mass number 65 and a percent abundance of 30.83 (once again, atomic number 29). Copper has 27 other isotopes, whose mass numbers range from 52 to 80, but they are radioactive, highly unstable, and sustain very short half lives. As stated before, a proton carries a positive charge and an electron has a negative charge. So, as logic and basic mathematics would suggest, an atom is always electrically neutral when the number of protons equals the number of electrons and the two cumulative charges cancel. For Copper to be neutral, its electron count must match its atomic number 29, so one can infer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Section 1: Introduction Air is classified as a mixture because it is made up of many different elements. These elements include 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, 1% Argon, .4% water vapor, and .04% carbon dioxide. Human activity has a very large effect on the air in our environment. Over time, humans have caused the once clean air to become polluted with chemicals. These chemicals are called pollutants. A pollutant is defined as a substance created from human activity, that is present at a concentration greater than its natural levels, and has a harmful effect on the environment. Many different pollutants exist in our air today and the concentration of these chemicals causes their toxicity to vary. Generally, pollutants are classified into two groups: primary and secondary pollutants. A primary pollutant is a chemical that enters directly into the atmosphere. Common primary pollutants include nitrogen monoxide, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and volatile organic compounds. A volatile organic compound is a compound of carbon that participates in a photochemical reaction in the atmosphere.
