Some interesting data has come to light which suggests that a public company can see many important SEO benefits, including the creation of inbound links, based solely on its activity in Social Media.
In particular, our data shows that Facebook, Google+, Tumblr, Pinterest and Disqus can be vitally beneficial in any corporate SEO strategy.
2. What Is SEO?
How your company appears in Natural Search results when
someone searches “your company”.
Other keyword terms that your company might appear for
include:
what you do (e.g. mining, data centers…)
where you do it (e.g. where you’re based and operate)
who you employ (e.g. executives and management)
Often overlooked by public companies, to their detriment.
3. Why Is SEO Important?
Visibility in major Search Engines is the basis for your
online reputation.
SEO is about more than just your website.
The first 3 results in a Google search for “your
company” are the most important.
Multimedia (videos, slideshows and image galleries) are
becoming crucial for search branding.
Google+ is starting to affect search results dramatically.
4. Facebook For SEO
Google is both crawling pages and indexing links from
Facebook.com.
Our own corporate website has a few dozen inbound
links from Facebook.
These links have come almost exclusively from the IR
Smartt Facebook page by posting blog items.
It’s interesting to note that this effort yields inbound links
from Facebook.com as well as Social conversion traffic.
6. Google+ For SEO
Google+ pages are being crawled and links indexed.
Our company website has around 50 inbound links from
plus.google.com.
This came as less of a surprise since it would make sense
that the Google algorithm would include Google+
But even so, it's another demonstration of how Social
Media activity is driving indexed link generation.
8. Tumblr For SEO
We decided to test which other Social Media profiles
could drive inbound links to our website.
Tumblr is definitely a useful tool for for generating cheap
backlinks to internal pages of a website.
The good thing about Tumblr is that is takes very little time
to create and publish a blog post.
Just copy and paste your website content or Press
Release, include the source URL and hit post. Done!
10. Pinterest For SEO
Pinterest isn’t really an Investor Relations tool. But using it
for SEO purposes can be very fruitful.
Pins are indexed based on the number of re-shares they
receive, but all pins have outbound links.
Pinning is fast, creates branding opportunities and can
potentially create hundreds of links in seconds.
All of this can be done with a simple browser plugin that
can be used when viewing your corporate website.
12. Blog Commenting For SEO
Commenting on blogs took a bit of a hit as an SEO
strategy the last couple of years.
But considering that you're probably reading dozens of
online articles every day, commenting on blogs is an
easy way to create both indexed and non-indexed links
A few comments on choice blogs can leave you with
dozens and dozens of inbound links.
This process can also feed your Twitter and Facebook
accounts with fresh, original content.
14. Why Does This Matter?
It's generally assumed that Social Media's only major SEO
benefit is the creation of non-indexed inbound links and
domain trust.
Our data suggests that Social Media interaction can
generate dozens of indexed inbound links to your
website.
Every link we’ve shown here is from a Social Media profile
that IR Smartt owns and manages. That means no
reliance on SEO companies.
