The Marine Corps
[Credibility] Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, I would like to introduce Gunnery Sergeant Kristi
Bagley to speak with you about the Montford Point Marines. Gunnery Sergeant Bagley has done
extensive research on the Montford Point Marines, and had the privilege of attending the Montford
Marines Congressional Gold Medal ceremony in June 2012. Ladies and gentlemen, Gunny Sergeant
Bagley.
[Attention] On display at the Montford Point Marine Museum at Camp Johnson, North Carolina is a
Marine Corps dress blues uniform. The uniform is identical to any other set of dress blues worn by
Marines through the mid 1940s. Just like any other set of dress blues, the Marine who wore them went
through a grueling period of training to earn the right to wear this uniform. However, this particular
dress uniform bears a different legacy of hardships and endurance than that of Marines who had come
before.
[Motivation] These blues belonged to Edgar Huff, the first African American to reach the rank of
Sergeant Major in the Marine Corps and one of the first African Americans to be allowed to enlist in
the Marine Corps. Sergeant Major Huff and nearly twenty thousand other African Americans began a
new legacy of service in the United States Marine Corps.
[Purpose and Thesis] Despite the Marines Corps acceptance of African American enlistees within its
ranks, the newly installed Marines experienced a great deal of opposition and racism from both the
leadership of the Marine Corps, their

Influence of Television Programs on Children
Kayla Raguse Joseph Grabowski Rhetoric Composition 1 11 October 2010 Influence of Television
Programs on Children Before there was television, children had options of playing outside, playing
board games, or doing simple activities like reading or drawing. Now that TV exists to a high
extremity, it has become apparent that nowadays these children shows have surpassed physical and
intellectual activities and have now become a way of life for children. We now see children wearing
clothing, playing video games, playing with toys, and watching movies featuring famous characters
that started off as mere creations that starred on half hour to one hour long programs. Whether it is a

In this article, Pasek also determines that children under three years of age in no way benefit from
television; even if it is Baby Einstein, (Kramer n.pag). Studies have also been conducted trying to
determine whether or not watching television to great amounts is affecting the eating habits and
psyche of young children. A study published by US Journal Pediatrics found that more psychological
difficulties dealing with peers, emotional issues, and hyperactivity are likely to develop with children
who spend numerous hours daily in front of television or playing video games (Yahoo! News n.pag).
Researchers studied 1,013 children ages 10 to 11 and had them complete a 25 point questionnaire, a
self report about daily hours watching television or playing games, and measured their physical
activity using an accelerometer in which the kids wore around their waist for seven days (Yahoo!
News n.pag). It was concluded that children spending two or more hours a day were likely to score
higher on the questionnaire which indicated, They had more psychological difficulties than kids who
did not spend a lot of time in front of a screen, (Yahoo! News n.pag). Even if children are physically
active but still spend multiple hours watching television or playing video games, they are still at risk
for psychological difficulties. Researchers stress the importance of parents regulating how much these
activities are being done to ensure their

Islamic Empire s Golden Age
During Islamic Empire s Golden Age, ideas of science and math developed and spread. In order for
this knowledge to grow, there had to be key factors to help it. The Muslims revived previous works
from past civilizations to assist in this progress. Muhammad was very encouraging for all types of
knowledge to grow. Three conditions that are important for the development of scientific and
mathematical ideas are a unified language, the standardization of paper, and the push for learning. One
condition needed for the spread of math and science in the .Islamic Empire was a unified language in
Arabic. This unification allowed scholars to be able to communicate with another scholar from one
end of the Islamic Empire to the other. Also, works that have been written in Greek, Latin, ancient
Egyptian, or Chinese in the past can be translated and used to further knowledge. For example, Caliph
al Mamun received permission from the Byzantine emperor to send Muslim scholars to retrieve Greek
scientific writings to be translated into Arabic. (DOC. D). Furthermore, when the Arabic language was
replaced by Persian as the court language which led to Omar Khayyam s Rubaiyat and Firdawsi s
Shah Nama. A unified language is very important for any advancements in any particular field for any

China was the first nation to create paper. Through trade, cultural diffusion, and captured Chinese
paper producers, the use of paper spread throughout the empire. (DOC. C). The switch to paper kick
started the mass production of books which allowed a lot more people to read and learn. The more
learning there is, the more discoveries in math and science. Muslim scientists and doctors found
advancements in chemistry, astronomy, and human biology. The wide use of paper for writing played

Cloud Computing Services
The popularity of mobile system with the headway in engineering, with the increment of Internet
utilization, comprehensively reinvent the old idea of network computing system, to the new buzzword
Cloud computing . Cloud computing is a link way to the usage of Cloud which process by transmitting
and receiving files in utilizing Internet. Most systems uses either of the three major models of cloud
computing services on the market, which are software as a service (SaaS), platform as a service
(PaaS), and infrastructure as a service (IaaS).
SaaS is an application level cloud service that provides interface software and database. User simply
accesses the software running on the back end server of the cloud clients such as web browsers,
emulators and mobile web browser, and use the services. The best example of this services is a web
based email service. Users are able to send or receive emails from web browser remotely without
installing or running email software on his/her device. The essential software are running on the Cloud
Computer which allow user to access the desire resources from any supported devices.
PaaS is a platform level cloud service that provide an operating system, database and web server, in
which the developers build the applications using different software development tools and to run on a
cloud platform. The example of this service can be seen on Google App Engine hosted by Google.

Sterotyping in To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee Essay
Topic 1: Stereotyping. The novel, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is based on the experiences of
one girl, Scout, growing up in Maycomb, Alabama in the 1930s. The novel explains some conflicts in
Scout s life. Scout, the main character, learns that things are not always morally correct and is
confronted with the reality of prejudice and stereotyping. Scout struggles with understanding the
prejudice and stereotyping she witnesses. Atticus Finch, Scout s father, with his strongly held
convictions, wisdom, and empathy, Atticus functions as the novel s moral backbone. (2). Atticus tries
to raise his children to be fair and nonjudgmental. It is through the lessons of Atticus and Scout s
experiences with discrimination that the reader sees ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Regardless of the lack of evidence, the jury and town are reluctant to take the word of a black man
over two white accusers. Atticus strongly pleads for the jury to look past race and stereotypes and
serve true justice, They were confident that you gentlemen would go along with them on the
assumption the evil assumption that all Negro s lie, and that all Negros are basically immoral beings.
... I am confident that you gentlemen will review without passion the evidence you have heard, come
to a decision, and restore this defendant to his family. In the name of God, do your duty. (1).
Throughout this trial Scout not only witnesses prejudice and stereotyping, she becomes the victim of
several people throughout the book. When Scout arrives for her first day of school, she meets Miss
Caroline, a teacher from the north. Miss Caroline has predetermined thoughts as to how the class
should be taught and how the children should learn. When Scout tells the teacher she can read and
write, she is punished and told she should not learn outside of school and that she is too young to be
able to read and write. Scout was mad with Miss Caroline s refusal to accept any other teaching
method but her own. This shows how Scout was stereotyped because she was from rural Alabama and
the teacher stereotyped everyone to be dumber than herself. When Scout is verbally abused because
her father is defending Tom Robinson, she becomes

My Favorite Day Of The Week
Beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep
It s a familiar sound. The infuriating, noise I absolutely despise. My deafening morning alarm. I was
in la la land riding on a unicorn, eating aromatic and saccharine chocolate cookies. When suddenly my
deep restful sleep is interrupted. Immediately, I cover my ears with my pillow and inside of myself, I
cry a river of tears. It s a Monday morning, my absolute favourite day of the week. NOT! I hate it.
Mondays are the worst. Monday is the last on my list of most cherished day in the week. Mondays are
not for me. I am not for Mondays. Okay, maybe that was dramatic but I m making a point. To be
specific, it s 5:00 a.m. in a shiver winter s morning. My body is weak, and my eyes refuse to open. I m
in a state where my mind is awake, yet my body refuses to physically move and my eyes only want to
stay shut. My feet are literally paralysed because of the extremely cold temperature. It s so cold I feel
like my body will exceed its normal body temperature of 36 degrees Celsius. I may just catch
hypothermia. Okay, not another beyond dramatic pause. I seriously need to wear my uniform. Just a
few more minutes.
Just ten more minutes, I tell myself.
I lie in bed procrastinating and contemplating about anything and everything. Why do I live so far
from school? I should ve gone to sleep earlier! Ugh! I hate Mondays. My thoughts accelerate beyond
as the loud uproarious sound of my alarm rings once again, indicating it is now 5:30 am.

Napoleon s Ideals
How have historians tried to evaluate the ultimate goal of Napoleon I, Emperor of the French? With
such a variety of perspectives, there is no single theory that can fully answer the breadth of the
question. Instead, kaleidoscopes of opinions that span centuries from Napoleon s time to
contemporary research give us the best analysis of his ambitions and overall goals. No matter the era,
historian s opinions of Napoleon shift between admiring his achievements, in varying contexts of
military victories, reorganizing governmental systems, or establishing civil codes, to criticizing his
personal lust for power culminating in his assumption of the title of emperor. This essay will discuss
the varying opinions by which historians view Napoleon I, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This argument is not very persuasive because it ignores other aspects of Napoleon s regime, such as
his military efforts.
In addition to Mansel, Frederik C. Schneid writes about Napoleon s ambition in using his power and
genius in creating an empire. Schneid brings forth the militaristic aspect of Napoleon s government
and his abilities as a general. For instance, he elaborates: [Napoleon] pursued an imperium sine fine,
an empire without end, and his inability to formulate a coherent political system to consolidate his
position of European hegemony condemned him to rule over a Europe in constant strife with his
regime. He makes the point that Napoleon s desire for glory and sweeping military victories were the
cause behind his goal of conquering the continent of Europe. Similar to Mansel s argument, Schneid
only considers a singular perspective in his approach, leaving out other crucial variables that effect
Napoleon s motivation to achieve his ultimate

Miriam s Father has a strong attachment to the family owned store the Bargain Mart, which allows
him to feel like he belongs. Miriam s father views the store as not only a business but as part of his
ability to support his family, and his own skills. He is indicated to feel his position as a provider is
threatened, when the store struggles financially (Thien 316). This is his second business in Canada,
the first of which failed (Thien 310). Therefore he becomes determined to prove that he can succeed.
Miriam s father becomes defensive, when Miriam s mother questions him. He says, I m working as
hard as I can, and he questions why Miriam s mother is doing well in Canada and he is not (Thien
326). If the store fails it would reflect back against Miriam s father, indicting he is not a good provider,
is not a good businessman, or cannot succeed in Canada. In this way place has become deeply
imbedded into Miriam s father s own values and ideas. Therefore Miriam s father keeps the store open
until he cannot keep it open any longer, in order to protect his sense of belonging, both in Vancouver
and in his family. Miriam s father is suggested to use the Bargain Mart to mediate his relationship with
his family, Canada and his career. His attachment to the store is so great that, his sense of belonging is
also facilitated through the store. When the store eventually closes, Miriam s father begins to feel

Mobile Music Distribution Essay
MOBILE MUSIC: DIGITAL MUSIC DISTRIBUTION
OVER MOBILE NETWORKS
Abstract
The transition from physical to digital music distribution is bound to have profound implications on
the music industry. So far, most of the activity related to digital music distribution has been centred on
the fixed Internet. In the meantime, mobile operators have been making significant investments in
extending their network capabilities to support data services. This paper includes an analysis of the
current situation of music delivery in mobile networks, as well as future prospects enabled by the
technical evolution of mobile networks. The overall feasibility, and the potentially most viable forms
of, mobile music business are studied.

once the good is provided, additional resource cost of another person consuming the good is zero and
to prevent anyone from consuming it is either very expensive or impossible. Consequently, recorded
music exhibits the economic properties of information. One of the fundamental economic properties
of digital information deals with its cost structure characterized by low reproduction costs. Another
noteworthy attribute that can be associated with music is its nature as an experience good. According
to the definition by Shapiro and Varian, (1988), music can be classified as an experience good since it
needs to be experienced to know what it is. According to other definitions by Hampe and Schwabe
(2001), music is a repetitive good, since unlike many other types of information, if one likes a song,
one is inclined to listen to it over and over again. It is essential to keep these economic properties in
mind when considering mobile music distribution.
2.2 History of innovation in the music industry
The history of music distribution sees its birth in the early days when music printing was the only
means of distribution. Subsequently, the ability of audio recording and duplication emerged,
eventually giving rise to mass production capabilities using various technologies as storage media
(Figure 2).
Despite the continuous stream of innovation, the record labels have remained largely

Segregation and the Civil Rights Movement Essay
Protest against injustice is deeply rooted in the African American experience. The origins of the civil
rights movement date much further back than the 1954 Supreme Court ruling on Brown v. Board of
Education of Topeka which said, separate but equal schools violated the Constitution. From the
earliest slave revolts in this country over 400 years ago, African Americans strove to gain full
participation in every aspect of political, economic and social life in the United States. Segregation
was an attempt by white Southerners to separate the races in every sphere of life and to achieve
supremacy over blacks. Segregation was often called the Jim Crow system, after a minstrel show

One of the cases against segregated rail travel was Plessy v. Ferguson (1896), in which the Supreme
Court of the United States ruled that separate but equal accommodations were constitutional.
However, in 1952, the Supreme Court heard a number of school segregation cases, including Brown v.
Board of Topeka, Kansas. It decided unanimously in 1954 that segregation was unconstitutional,
overthrowing the 1869 Plessy v. Ferguson ruling that had set the separate but equal precedent. As
desegregation progresses, the membership of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) grew. The KKK used violence
or threats against anyone who was suspected of favoring desegregation or black civil rights. Klan
terror, including intimidation and murder, was widespread in the South in the 1950s and 1960s, though
Klan activities were not always reported in the media. One terrorist act that did receive national
attention was the murder of Emmit Till, 14 year old black boy slain in Mississippi by whites who
believed he had flirted with a white woman. The trial and acquittal of the men accuse of Till s murder
were covered in the national media, demonstrating the continuing racial bigotry of Southern whites.
To protest segregation, blacks created new national organizations. The National Afro American
League was formed in 1890; the Niagra Movement in 1905; and National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in 1909. In 1910,

The Federal Reserve System And Economic Development
The Federal Reserve
The Federal Reserve System was created by Congress in 1913 and passed the Federal Reserve Act in
order to provide for a safer and more flexible banking and monetary system. According to the
changing needs of the system, its objectives have been changing throughout the history of the Fed. At
first, its original purposes were to give the country an elastic currency, provide facilities for
discounting commercial credits, and improve the supervision of the banking system under a
decentralized bank. (The Federal Reserve System, 1984, 1). Prior to its establishment (the Fed), the
supply of bank credit and money was inelastic, thus resulting in an irregular flow of credit and money,
and contributed to unstable economic development. These objectives were aspects economic policies
and national monetary. However, through time, stability and growth of the economy, high employment
levels, stability in the purchasing power of the dollar, and reasonable balance in transactions with
foreign currencies have become to be recognized as primary objectives of the governmental economic
policy.
The Fed is an independent central bank. Its decisions are not ratified by the president or any other
government institutions. However, the Fed has to report to the Congress. The book of the Federal
Reserve System (1984, 2) uses the term of independent within the government , since the Fed has to
work within the framework of the objectives of economic and financial policy

The Two Arrangements of Water Quality Parameters
There are two arrangements of water quality parameters:
 Conservative
 Non conservative Conservative parameters of water which are hardness, alkalinity, salinity, and
temperature are not affected significantly by activities of microorganisms. [30] Ammonia, nitrate,
nitrite, total nitrogen, pH, phosphorous, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, total dissolved solids,
chemical oxygen demand, and oxygen reduction potential which are affected by biological activity are
considered as non conservative. [30] [31] Now let s discuss the crucial water quality parameters taking
into consideration the importance of monitoring them in an aquaculture setting for reusing them for
irrigating processes. So at first nitrogen cycle must be discussed. [30] [32] The nitrogen cycle can be
described as follows. Figure 1 The graph of nitrogen cycle
Boyd, C.E. 1976. Water chemistry and plankton in unfertilized ponds in pastures and in woods.635

Nitrogen fixation is the process by which bacteria, aerobic, anaerobic and photosynthetic transform
atmospheric nitrogen to organic nitrogen. [30] Many organisms such as plants also rely on this process
for survival. Ammonification is the process by which organic nitrogen is converted to nitrogenous
ammonia by heterotrophic microorganisms. Nitrification is the biological conversion of ammonia to
nitrate. Nitrifies carry out this process and can be autotrophic

His 103 This is my interview with Dr. Alfred Meckel and his World War II experience. He was born in
1924 when Germany was still in hard times due to the harsh sanctions from the rest of the world after
World War 1. As a young boy at the age of 9 Hitler came to power. At such a young age he thought
that Hitler would be the man who could lead Germany out of its tough economic hardships and bring
them up to the rest of the world s standards. It was not until several years into the war that he was
more critical and found out that the regime was brutal and faced many problems with no human rights

It was pretty rough by his accounts. Food was very scarce only black coffee and a chunk of bread with
a sausage link was given out in the morning and that was all the rations for the day so you had to make
the most of it. His basic training was somewhat special, based on the fact that his unit was in

arrived in Poland to his pilot school. Since he was just a recruit his job was just to stand guard duty in
the airfield for the first 6 months and set off the alarms at the sound of incoming allied aircraft. He
claims he mostly just sat around and ate about two pounds of grapes a day since his post was
surrounded by grape fields.
After very tough physical and mental testing he was accepted into the pilot school. This he said was

The Bank Of Japan And Japan
The Bank of Japan After researching through several different countries central banks, I decided to
settle on talking about the Bank of Japan. Currently, Japan s economy is going through a rough patch
for the first part of the year, stemming from its poor performance in the economy from the previous
year. To better understand the Bank of Japan, I will talk about the Bank in five separate sections
starting with the Bank s background. Afterword, I will continue with the following topics: the Bank s
monetary policy, the central bank balance sheet and currency, its current economical conditions.
Lastly, I will be concluding with a future forecast and my own opinion about the near challenges the
Bank of Japan will face.

governors who assist the governor and administer the Bank s business. The rest of the Policy Board is
comprised of six other members. Below the Policy Board we have Auditors, Executive Directors, and
a few Counselors who aid the Governor and Deputy Governors at operating and administering the
Bank ( Organization Chart ). Each Governor, Deputy Governor, and Executive Director is in charge of
one or several of the fifteen head offices (日本銀行). Lastly we have various offices that do various
things for the Bank of Japan. First of all, there are 32 branches that operate currency issues and
banking operations and they also research on specific economic and financial situations in their
respective areas ( Organization Chart ). After that Japan has 14 local offices that handle some of the
operations of the Head Office or branches ( Organization Chart ). Finally, there are 7 Overseas
Representative Offices that perform liaison functions, gather information and conduct research (

Business Control Mechanisms
Control Mechanisms
Control mechanisms are ways for businesses to have measures of control over their business
environment. Controls are implemented in organizations to give guidance and keep the organization
focused. McDonald s, one of the most successful fast food organizations in the world uses multiple
control mechanisms to ensure the individual success of their franchise restaurants. Some of the
controls that McDonald s uses include bureaucratic, market, product, and architectural control. The
implementation of these controls has both positive and negative effects on the organization.

performance. Some of the things that can be controlled in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The positive reactions of the controls from corporate are having control, consistency, and location,
location, location. Because of the research corporate does, which they do a lot of there is a better
chance of success for each restaurant. The reason for this is that what the Corporation looks for is the
location which will end up making it right from the beginning. For the franchisee the positive aspect is
that corporate has done all the homework. By them doing their homework it has benefited them every
time. They do not have to worry about the quality of supplies, or about the shipping process. The
reason for this is that again all the work has been done for them. Being a franchisee owner has its
benefits because they end up just walking in and running the business, but it also has its negatives, the
franchisee needs to do the hiring and training that need to be done. Also they are at the mercy of the
corporation looking at all the things that the franchisee owner is doing, in other words the feeling that
big brother is watching over your shoulder. Also as a franchisee they tend to ignore many of the
suggestions that are given by the corporation which sometimes gets them in a bit of trouble.
Control mechanisms indeed give organizations measures of positive control over processes,
employees, and, hopefully, outcome. On the other hand, control mechanisms also have affects on

Can Marijuana Really Kill You? Probably Not. A new report

for Disease Control and Prevention and many of the several news articles it triggered, are blaming a
space cookie for killing a teenager in Colorado illustrating a potential danger associated with
recreational edible marijuana use. But is it fair to say that weed kills? The new CDC report states that
a teenager in Colorado died after consuming an entire marijuana cookie that contained 6 servings of
marijuana s active ingredient, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). In this week s Morbidity and Mortality
report, the incident was labeled as the first linked to marijuana consumption without evidence of ...

Because he could still feel no effects after 30 60 minutes, he decided to eat the rest, which constituted
approximately 6 servings. After a couple of hours, Thamba started tripping out, exhibiting hostile

was ruled an accident. In the marijuana dispensary, workers recommended that he only eat roughly
one sixth of the cookie the equivalent of about 10 mg of THC, the psychoactive ingredient in weed
that causes the high. It is undeniable that the THC level in his blood was high 49 ng/mL. Some
research suggests that high doses of THC can produce serious anxiety attacks and psychoticlike
symptoms, but can we really call this a marijuana overdose? There are a number of factors that rule
out this possibility. Although it is true that dose matters and that Thamba, was marijuana naivee , what

Protein Based Ligands For Tumor Targeting
In addition to peptides, protein based ligands such as Affibody proteins have been utilized for tumor
targeting. Anti epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) Affibody protein (e.g., Ac Cys ZEGFR:1907,

NH2) is used to target EGFR that is overexpressed in a wide variety of human tumors. Cheng and co
workers used anti EGFR Affibody protein as tumor targeting ligand on 64Cu Au IO nanoparticles
(PET component: 64Cu, MRI component: iron oxide, specific for EGFR) surface.[63] In their work,
A431 tumor cells were subcutaneously implanted in the right shoulders of nude mice; and 64Cu
NOTAAu IONP Affibody nanoparticles were administered via tail vain injection. Rather low
resolution PET image showed that these nanoparticles were taken by EGFR positive A431 (human
epithelial carcinoma cell line) cells reaching 4.6% ID/g at 24 h after injection, significantly higher
than that obtained from the blocking experiment (1.9% ID/g) indicating the specificity of the probe.
This difference in % ID/g values corroborated with 44% drop in MRI signal intensity that was
observed for the tumor. In this study, the use of an Affibody protein as ligand for EGFR expressing
tumor in small animals was demonstrated to be successful; however, the benefit of multimodality was
not demonstrated. The unique chemistry of this dumbbell shaped Au IO nanoprobe could pave the
way for targeted drug delivery into EGFR expressing tumors

Exceptions Under The Exclusionary Rule
In criminal justice the exclusionary rule prohibits the use of illegally seized evidence or evidence that
violates the offenders rights under the fourth, fifth, or sixth amendment. There are three exceptions
under the exclusionary rule, fruit of the poisoned tree , inevitable discovery exception, and the good
faith exception. These three exceptions each allow evidence that can be considered illegally obtained
to be admissible in a court of law, given it fits in certain constraints.
Fruit of the poisoned tree is a term for any verbal or physical evidence obtained by using illegally
obtained evidence. The basis of the fruit of the poisoned tree concept is that like a poisoned tree would
bear poisonous fruit, evidence that is obtained because of illegally obtained evidence is also therefore
illegally obtained. This concept could be considered tier one under the exclusionary rule. The
exclusionary rule and its counterparts were first applied in courts in 1914. The idea of the exclusionary
rule is to maintain proper police procedure. If police officers present legally obtained evidence, they
have a higher chance of getting the offender convicted. This works as a rewards system. ... Show more

paper, we will examine 3 different articles related the healthcare fraud and abuse and provide a
summary and analyze them. So, what is healthcare fraud and abuse is, you may ask? When talking
about healthcare fraud and abuse, we are talking about 2 major statutes in the healthcare industry,
Physician Self Referral (Stark) Law and AKS (Anti Kickback Statutes). These laws apply to many
practices and procedures within organizations and can be manipulated to benefit an organization
financially. The Physician Self Referral Law prohibits entities from presenting a claim to anyone for
healthcare services for a service not rendered and it also prohibits a physician for creating a referral
for services that are designated but are not rendered. AKS prohibits anyone from offering a kickback,
paying a kickback, or receiving a kickback in return for the delivery of health care services. However,
the AKS encourages referrals based on monetary rewards to the primary source rather than

Pemberton Company, which gave him a huge salary, did not run so smoothly. The reason why
Pemberton s business did not run very well was due to the period of prohibition during the year 1885.
Since Atlanta prohibited the use of alcohol in 1885, Pemberton had to swap the French Wine Coca
formula by removing the word French Wine (Biography John S. Pemberton Inventor of Coca Cola).
Cocaine, being the originally formula used for Coca Cola, is no longer the main content for Coca
Cola. Cocaine was then replaced with sugar, caffeine, starch, citric acid, and oil fruits. For the main
ingredient, Pemberton had to find and collect seeds cola plant native to tropical regions of West Africa
and the tree coca leaves from South Africa (Biography John S. Pemberton Inventor of Coca Cola).
Pemberton dried both the cola nut and coca leaves manually. Pemberton made his business successful
and the potion he had created was revealed as he had hoped (Biography John S. Pemberton Inventor
of Coca Cola). Then Pemberton s colleague Robinson came up with a name for the potion and he
suggested the name Coca Cola . Pemberton approved the name Coca Cola . The Coca Cola formula,
coming from Pemberton, was named Merchandise 7X , or it was abbreviated M7X. The naming of the

Racism in Native American Mascots
When we are young, we are taught to treat everyone equally. Naturally, as children you learn and

humans upon entering a foreign or country of citizenship. Fighting for equal treatment to the
prominent race has created history that is left for future activist to involve themselves with past
history, and revive movements. Equal treatment amongst the different cultures is necessary for the

Having a tumultuous background, the Native American history in itself should be respected, but there
seems to be a nuisance doing so. In the 1830 s, after removal policy failed to prevail, not only did
individual Indians remain, but native communities also struggled over the next century and a half to
carve out a place for themselves in the South (Perdue 3). Native American s were challenged to find a
place in the idealistic society, but their ritualistic culture was not fit for the United States. Further on,
they dealt with poverty, discrimination, and violence against their community. The history of
discrimination against the Native American community has been very controversial. For over 129
years, discrimination has been widely noticed specifically in the sport community. From the racial slur
of redskins or the identification of the Native American like in the Cleveland Indians baseball team,
Chief Wahoo; the wide range of the identifications towards Native American causes an uproar in the
educated community. In Multicultural Training Intervention To Address American Indian Stereotypes,
Matthew and Jesse Steinfeldt, conducted psychological and qualitative research to illustrate the
damage profiling causes in the Native American community by using other race examples to put
manners in perspective. Redskin is defined by the American Heritage Dictionary as an offensive slang

Bowlby s Attachment Theory And Attachment
According to Simply Psychology, Bowlby s attachment theory says an individual can have an
attachment with someone that is not shared. Attachment is characterized by behaviors in children such
as seeking proximity with their attachment figure when upset. Bowlby s experiments led him to see
the importance of a child and mother relationship. (Saul McLeod, 2009) With more research later
came four phases of attachment. Phase one is from birth to two months, this stage is where babies seek
comfort, and can attach to anyone. Phase two is from two months to seven months. Babies start to
discriminate between familiar and unfamiliar faces. Also, they can tell between primary and secondary
caregivers. Phase three is seven to 24 months old. This phase is when babies have the knowledge of
who their caregiver is, which causes separation anxiety when the caregiver has to leave. Phase four is
from 24 months and after, which is when the child can reciprocate the relationship. (Maianu, 2015)

Endangering Animals
Endangering Lives of Innocent Animals Will it take the extinction of all the targeted wildlife to end
poaching for good? Poaching is a major threat to many different species of animals. Many subspecies
of animals have already become extinct and many are threatened or endangered. Poaching is not only
morally wrong, but it is illegal as well. Poaching animals is a major issue and it should end entirely
because it endangers the targeted species being hunted, it is harmful to the ecosystem, and it is illegal.
When an animal is killed illegally, it is considered poaching. Poaching is when an animal is killed
because they possess something that is considered valuable, like ivory or a rhinoceros s horn ( 11
Facts 1). Illegal wildlife trade is similar to other illegal trades, including illegal drug and arm trading.
Illegal wildlife trade is often run by dangerous international networks, like the black market. There are
expert traffic monitors who estimated there is hundreds of millions of dollars caught up in animal
poaching ( Illegal Wildlife 1). Habitat loss is a leading cause to why many animal species are
becoming threatened and endangered, but poaching is a close second ( Illegal Wildlife 1). Poaching
and habitat loss work hand and hand to continue to threaten the wildlife today ( Illegal Wildlife 3).
With poaching threatening the wildlife s existence, it affects not only the ecosystem, but it also affects
tourism. Tens of thousands of tourists annually visit

Annotated Bibliography Of The Films Of Federico Fellini
Annotated Bibliography: How do French, Italian, Japanese, and Indian arthouse auteurist films affect
the development of New Hollywood auteur films. Bondanella, P. (2002). The Films of Federico
Fellini. Cambridge, UK: Cambridge University Press. The Films of Federico Fellini examines the
career and work of Italy s most revered filmmakers. By analyzing the masterpieces of Fellini, the book
attempts to categorize the influence of his work, and explain some of his interests in fantasy, the
irrational, and individualism. Bondanella essentially rejects more common ways of analyzing Fellini s
work and favors trying to explore the development of his unique and personal cinematic style.
Bondanella highlights some of the major accomplishments in the life of the renowned Italian
filmmaker. One of the most striking features of Bondanella work is his ability to tell the story of
Fellini by using the works of the filmmaker. In particular, Bondanella is able to draw on a new archive
of manuscripts, obtained from Fellini and his scriptwriters. This level of in depth analysis allows
researchers to get a detailed view of Fellini s work that has inspired generations of not only Italian
filmmakers, but also in the rest of the world. The author suggests that Fellini s use of realism in film

The National Motto Of The United States Of America
While the 50 s were known as a major countercultural era, the 1950 s in America also allowed for
religion to make a big resurgence. In 1950 specifically, 40% of American were a church member, and
by 1960 this number had risen to nearly 70%. President Eisenhower during this time stated, Our
government makes no sense unless it is founded on a deeply felt religious faith. As he was concerned
about Americans being deadened in mind and soul by a materialistic philosophy of life. To take it a
step further, in 1954, he signed a bill to add one nation under God to the Pledge of Allegiance. And
almost exactly two years proceeding the signing of that bill did, Congress make In God We Trust the
national motto of the United States of America.
In the 1951 1960 Baylor University and other institutions across America were searching for ways to
bolster organizational and academic legitimacy during a time where religion was a major part of the
societal discussion. With Baylor being a major Baptist and religious institution the need to legitimize
the value of a Baylor education was growing. In University President William R. White s inaugural
address he stated that, Those who launched Baylor University had a definite concept of its two fold
purpose [which was] to serve the church and the state...and [the] world... they intended to influence
culture and society with the great distinctive principles of [the University]. And they wanted to enrich

This Boy s Life Analysis
In the memoir This Boy s Life the readers are introduced to Jack, a troubled boy who struggles
through his adolescence. Jack s boyhood was plagued with a divorce, moving, hostile environments,
and unknown identity. To create a foundation, and image for himself Jack began to create a new life,
in his mind. This concept was shown throughout the whole memoir. For example, in this quotation,
And on the boy who lived in their letters, the splendid phantom who carried all my hopes, it seemed to
me I saw, at last , my own face. (214). Imagination was Jack main source of escape from what he truly
was. Jack pictured himself as one of the elite, a football star, and 4.0 student. While in reality he was

In our culture today we are taught to be yourself, and never lie. Which is why I surprised and intrigued
by this quote, and everything that related to it. I wanted to understand Jack s life, because I have never

memoir as a whole. Imagination brought Jack into a wonderful life, yet it was fake. This allowing him
to think more highly of himself to get past Dwight s and other people s outlooks on him. However,
Jack s life never turley became better. He went to the Hill school but got expelled, and Dwight s anger
never left Jack, and clouded the little bit of happiness that Jack had gained in Chinook. All of this
shows that imagination never truly makes things better, but provides an allusion. Through Jack it was
learned that only working hard, and keeping out of trouble brings honest good fortune. Which was
expressed throughout the memoir to allow the readers to see the good and bad that came from Jack s
life. Overall, the quotation helped me understand Jack s use of imagination, and even the true meaning
of the memoir as a

Descriptive Essay On Pizza
Half spinach. Half anchovies. Sitting on the countertops of Dominos at my dad s work, I pondered
how many combinations of halves people could make with pizzas. Lining the walls, there were
containers filled with an array of different toppings ranging from pineapples to pepperonis. While my
dad kneaded the dough, I listened to him tell me that pizza can be made it however you want, which
incentivized me think of all the possible combinations of pizza mushrooms and sausage, bell peppers
and onions, or maybe even jalapenos and ham. Back then, I use to think my dad had the best job in the
world, until at school, I was handed free cardboard pizza lunch while other kids parents packed them
homemade, hot lunches in thermoses. As my eyes darted between my lunch and my friends , I
compared their packed juice boxes and sliced fruit to my flimsy tray and pizza. I was jealous and
wanted to be like them. During those moments, I could not help but feel like my life paralleled that
soggy pizza on the top of my tray. I since longed for the pizzas I made with my dad. While some of
my peers were handed a recipe for life, I was left blindsided not knowing how to create my personal
pizza. I wanted to try new combinations, but I realized people were more inclined to order simple pies.
As a result, I became less adventurous and subdued to societal norms of pizza. I ordered pepperoni
and cheese pizzas at parties to please the majority that attended. I began depending on others to shape

Sociological Lense
Sociology is the research and analysis of the human society; meaning sociologist examine why we
behave the way we behave, what affects our behavior, and if ordinary things are more complex than

When someone is trying to think as a sociologist it is encouraged to question aspects in your life that
you thought were normal, which conveniently can make you feel unsure about what lifestyle you are

Was I being selfish to? Did I not want another animal to be put down in the pound? Was I influenced

imagination. Sociological imagination can be defined as the ability to see the connections between our
personal experiences and the larger forces of history (Conley, 4), meaning you can see how your past
decisions have shaped your life into the one you are currently living. An example would be, children.
They are raised to the standards of their guardian and are taught what is right and wrong and how to
live to the guardians standards as they grow up. Children now have a personality that is shaped by the
guardians that can impact what type of people they will grow up to be. Some kids can be kind and

  • 2. The Marine Corps [Credibility] Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, I would like to introduce Gunnery Sergeant Kristi Bagley to speak with you about the Montford Point Marines. Gunnery Sergeant Bagley has done extensive research on the Montford Point Marines, and had the privilege of attending the Montford Marines Congressional Gold Medal ceremony in June 2012. Ladies and gentlemen, Gunny Sergeant Bagley. [Attention] On display at the Montford Point Marine Museum at Camp Johnson, North Carolina is a Marine Corps dress blues uniform. The uniform is identical to any other set of dress blues worn by Marines through the mid 1940s. Just like any other set of dress blues, the Marine who wore them went through a grueling period of training to earn the right to wear this uniform. However, this particular dress uniform bears a different legacy of hardships and endurance than that of Marines who had come before. [Motivation] These blues belonged to Edgar Huff, the first African American to reach the rank of Sergeant Major in the Marine Corps and one of the first African Americans to be allowed to enlist in the Marine Corps. Sergeant Major Huff and nearly twenty thousand other African Americans began a new legacy of service in the United States Marine Corps. [Purpose and Thesis] Despite the Marines Corps acceptance of African American enlistees within its ranks, the newly installed Marines experienced a great deal of opposition and racism from both the leadership of the Marine Corps, their ... For example, Caliph al Mamun received permission from the Byzantine emperor to send Muslim scholars to retrieve Greek scientific writings to be translated into Arabic. (DOC. D). • 7. My Favorite Day Of The Week Beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep It s a familiar sound. The infuriating, noise I absolutely despise. My deafening morning alarm. I was in la la land riding on a unicorn, eating aromatic and saccharine chocolate cookies. When suddenly my deep restful sleep is interrupted. Immediately, I cover my ears with my pillow and inside of myself, I cry a river of tears. It s a Monday morning, my absolute favourite day of the week. NOT! I hate it. Mondays are the worst. Monday is the last on my list of most cherished day in the week. Mondays are not for me. I am not for Mondays. Okay, maybe that was dramatic but I m making a point. To be specific, it s 5:00 a.m. in a shiver winter s morning. My body is weak, and my eyes refuse to open. I m in a state where my mind is awake, yet my body refuses to physically move and my eyes only want to stay shut. My feet are literally paralysed because of the extremely cold temperature. It s so cold I feel like my body will exceed its normal body temperature of 36 degrees Celsius. I may just catch hypothermia. Okay, not another beyond dramatic pause. I seriously need to wear my uniform. Just a few more minutes. Just ten more minutes, I tell myself. I lie in bed procrastinating and contemplating about anything and everything. Why do I live so far from school? I should ve gone to sleep earlier! Ugh! I hate Mondays. My thoughts accelerate beyond as the loud uproarious sound of my alarm rings once again, indicating it is now 5:30 am. That s basically ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

No matter the era, historian s opinions of Napoleon shift between admiring his achievements, in varying contexts of military victories, reorganizing governmental systems, or establishing civil codes, to criticizing his personal lust for power culminating in his assumption of the title of emperor. This argument is not very persuasive because it ignores other aspects of Napoleon s regime, such as his military efforts. In addition to Mansel, Frederik C. Schneid writes about Napoleon s ambition in using his power and genius in creating an empire. Schneid brings forth the militaristic aspect of Napoleon s government and his abilities as a general. For instance, he elaborates: [Napoleon] pursued an imperium sine fine, an empire without end, and his inability to formulate a coherent political system to consolidate his position of European hegemony condemned him to rule over a Europe in constant strife with his regime. He makes the point that Napoleon s desire for glory and sweeping military victories were the cause behind his goal of conquering the continent of Europe. Consequently, recorded music exhibits the economic properties of information. One of the fundamental economic properties of digital information deals with its cost structure characterized by low reproduction costs. Another noteworthy attribute that can be associated with music is its nature as an experience good. According to the definition by Shapiro and Varian, (1988), music can be classified as an experience good since it needs to be experienced to know what it is. According to other definitions by Hampe and Schwabe (2001), music is a repetitive good, since unlike many other types of information, if one likes a song, one is inclined to listen to it over and over again. It is essential to keep these economic properties in mind when considering mobile music distribution. 2.2 History of innovation in the music industry The history of music distribution sees its birth in the early days when music printing was the only means of distribution. Subsequently, the ability of audio recording and duplication emerged, eventually giving rise to mass production capabilities using various technologies as storage media (Figure 2). The origins of the civil rights movement date much further back than the 1954 Supreme Court ruling on Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka which said, separate but equal schools violated the Constitution. From the earliest slave revolts in this country over 400 years ago, African Americans strove to gain full participation in every aspect of political, economic and social life in the United States. Segregation was an attempt by white Southerners to separate the races in every sphere of life and to achieve supremacy over blacks. One of the cases against segregated rail travel was Plessy v. Ferguson (1896), in which the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that separate but equal accommodations were constitutional. However, in 1952, the Supreme Court heard a number of school segregation cases, including Brown v. Board of Topeka, Kansas. It decided unanimously in 1954 that segregation was unconstitutional, overthrowing the 1869 Plessy v. Ferguson ruling that had set the separate but equal precedent. As desegregation progresses, the membership of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) grew. The KKK used violence or threats against anyone who was suspected of favoring desegregation or black civil rights. Klan terror, including intimidation and murder, was widespread in the South in the 1950s and 1960s, though Klan activities were not always reported in the media. One terrorist act that did receive national attention was the murder of Emmit Till, 14 year old black boy slain in Mississippi by whites who believed he had flirted with a white woman. The trial and acquittal of the men accuse of Till s murder were covered in the national media, demonstrating the continuing racial bigotry of Southern whites. To protest segregation, blacks created new national organizations. The National Afro American League was formed in 1890; the Niagra Movement in 1905; and National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in 1909. In 1910, ... According to the changing needs of the system, its objectives have been changing throughout the history of the Fed. At first, its original purposes were to give the country an elastic currency, provide facilities for discounting commercial credits, and improve the supervision of the banking system under a decentralized bank. Cheng and co workers used anti EGFR Affibody protein as tumor targeting ligand on 64Cu Au IO nanoparticles (PET component: 64Cu, MRI component: iron oxide, specific for EGFR) surface.[63] In their work, A431 tumor cells were subcutaneously implanted in the right shoulders of nude mice; and 64Cu NOTAAu IONP Affibody nanoparticles were administered via tail vain injection. Poaching is a major threat to many different species of animals. Many subspecies of animals have already become extinct and many are threatened or endangered. Poaching is not only morally wrong, but it is illegal as well. Poaching animals is a major issue and it should end entirely because it endangers the targeted species being hunted, it is harmful to the ecosystem, and it is illegal. When an animal is killed illegally, it is considered poaching. Poaching is when an animal is killed because they possess something that is considered valuable, like ivory or a rhinoceros s horn ( 11 Facts 1). Illegal wildlife trade is similar to other illegal trades, including illegal drug and arm trading. Illegal wildlife trade is often run by dangerous international networks, like the black market. Bondanella, P. (2002). The Films of Federico Fellini. Cambridge, UK: Cambridge University Press. The Films of Federico Fellini examines the career and work of Italy s most revered filmmakers. By analyzing the masterpieces of Fellini, the book attempts to categorize the influence of his work, and explain some of his interests in fantasy, the irrational, and individualism. Bondanella essentially rejects more common ways of analyzing Fellini s work and favors trying to explore the development of his unique and personal cinematic style. Bondanella highlights some of the major accomplishments in the life of the renowned Italian filmmaker. One of the most striking features of Bondanella work is his ability to tell the story of Fellini by using the works of the filmmaker. In particular, Bondanella is able to draw on a new archive of manuscripts, obtained from Fellini and his scriptwriters. This level of in depth analysis allows researchers to get a detailed view of Fellini s work that has inspired generations of not only Italian filmmakers, but also in the rest of the world. The author suggests that Fellini s use of realism in film allows the audience to connect on a whole ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One one hand, we have directors claiming the work because of the creative initiatives that they had to take in order to make the films, while the production companies claim the films because they commissioned the director to make the films. This is the issue that Gerstner and Staiger try to answer, the question of who owns the rights to a film. Auteurism is the belief that the director is the sole author of a film, and that it should reflect the emotions and beliefs of the director. According to auteurism, we should see the vision of the director in the film, and thus he claims ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The National Motto Of The United States Of America While the 50 s were known as a major countercultural era, the 1950 s in America also allowed for religion to make a big resurgence. In 1950 specifically, 40% of American were a church member, and by 1960 this number had risen to nearly 70%. President Eisenhower during this time stated, Our government makes no sense unless it is founded on a deeply felt religious faith. As he was concerned about Americans being deadened in mind and soul by a materialistic philosophy of life. To take it a step further, in 1954, he signed a bill to add one nation under God to the Pledge of Allegiance. And almost exactly two years proceeding the signing of that bill did, Congress make In God We Trust the national motto of the United States of America. In the 1951 1960 Baylor University and other institutions across America were searching for ways to bolster organizational and academic legitimacy during a time where religion was a major part of the societal discussion. With Baylor being a major Baptist and religious institution the need to legitimize the value of a Baylor education was growing. In University President William R. White s inaugural address he stated that, Those who launched Baylor University had a definite concept of its two fold purpose [which was] to serve the church and the state...and [the] world... they intended to influence culture and society with the great distinctive principles of [the University]. • 33. This Boy s Life Analysis In the memoir This Boy s Life the readers are introduced to Jack, a troubled boy who struggles through his adolescence. Jack s boyhood was plagued with a divorce, moving, hostile environments, and unknown identity. To create a foundation, and image for himself Jack began to create a new life, in his mind. This concept was shown throughout the whole memoir. For example, in this quotation, And on the boy who lived in their letters, the splendid phantom who carried all my hopes, it seemed to me I saw, at last , my own face. (214). Imagination was Jack main source of escape from what he truly was. Jack pictured himself as one of the elite, a football star, and 4.0 student. While in reality he was poor and failing his classes and never got on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In our culture today we are taught to be yourself, and never lie. Which is why I surprised and intrigued by this quote, and everything that related to it. I wanted to understand Jack s life, because I have never experienced anything close to his life. Thus bringing me to how this quote related to the meaning as a memoir as a whole. Imagination brought Jack into a wonderful life, yet it was fake. This allowing him to think more highly of himself to get past Dwight s and other people s outlooks on him. However, Jack s life never turley became better. He went to the Hill school but got expelled, and Dwight s anger never left Jack, and clouded the little bit of happiness that Jack had gained in Chinook. All of this shows that imagination never truly makes things better, but provides an allusion. Through Jack it was learned that only working hard, and keeping out of trouble brings honest good fortune. Which was expressed throughout the memoir to allow the readers to see the good and bad that came from Jack s life. Overall, the quotation helped me understand Jack s use of imagination, and even the true meaning of the memoir as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Descriptive Essay On Pizza Half spinach. Half anchovies. Sitting on the countertops of Dominos at my dad s work, I pondered how many combinations of halves people could make with pizzas. Lining the walls, there were containers filled with an array of different toppings ranging from pineapples to pepperonis. While my dad kneaded the dough, I listened to him tell me that pizza can be made it however you want, which incentivized me think of all the possible combinations of pizza mushrooms and sausage, bell peppers and onions, or maybe even jalapenos and ham. Back then, I use to think my dad had the best job in the world, until at school, I was handed free cardboard pizza lunch while other kids parents packed them homemade, hot lunches in thermoses. As my eyes darted between my lunch and my friends , I compared their packed juice boxes and sliced fruit to my flimsy tray and pizza. I was jealous and wanted to be like them. During those moments, I could not help but feel like my life paralleled that soggy pizza on the top of my tray. I since longed for the pizzas I made with my dad. While some of my peers were handed a recipe for life, I was left blindsided not knowing how to create my personal pizza. I wanted to try new combinations, but I realized people were more inclined to order simple pies. As a result, I became less adventurous and subdued to societal norms of pizza. I ordered pepperoni and cheese pizzas at parties to please the majority that attended. I began depending on others to shape my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Feeling the uncomfortable and unsure state while being outside of your normal element means you are in sync with your sociological imagination. Sociological imagination can be defined as the ability to see the connections between our personal experiences and the larger forces of history (Conley, 4), meaning you can see how your past decisions have shaped your life into the one you are currently living. An example would be, children. They are raised to the standards of their guardian and are taught what is right and wrong and how to live to the guardians standards as they grow up. Children now have a personality that is shaped by the guardians that can impact what type of people they will grow up to be.
