Daniel Ben Jacob Thesis
Daniel ben Jacob (c. 1060 c. 1120) was a Jewish philosopher and rabbi that lived in Metz, France for
the majority of his early life. After the Rhineland massacres in 1096, he fled to Germany to seek
safety. However, after the Crusade was planned to continued into the German cities of Mainz and
Cologne, Daniel ben Jacob informed King Henry IV of Germany. Daniel ben Jacob is most well
known for his works of biblical exegesis, of which he sent to King Henry IV in order to influence the
protection of Jewish communities in Germany. His exegesis is known to be what saved the lives of
Jewish communities during the late 11th century and early 12th century. These great feat eventually
led to Daniel ben Jacob receiving the honorary title Rhineland Gaon, ( Pride of the Rhineland ).
Through the remainder of his lifetime, Rhineland Gaon worked to protect and promote the growth of
Jewish communities in Germany through his allegorical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

However, fear not brethren, stay firm in your faith and continue to foster the growth of our future

Descriptive Essay On The Road
It all started at my house, my safe place, if you will. I see my dog, she is excited for the ride. We are
about to start our journey, but we need to pack our bags. I am packing and my eyes are drooping
because it is early in the morning. I finally get done and we put our stuff in the car. I get in and I hear
the engine turning and then a constant buzzing sound, the car is on. 3....2....1.... We start our journey as
we unite rubber to the cement. I roll down the window and take a deep breath of fresh air. In the air I
smell an absolutely disgusting stench. It is a pig farm to the west of us. I roll my window up to avoid
the bad smell. We are on our way to Arizona and I see a sign telling me that we are at the border of
Nebraska. The sign says, Nebraska ... the good life, and there is a picture of a mountain and a red sun
behind it. I roll down my window, knowing that we are out of the smelly state of Iowa, and breath in
fresh air again. I see a boring place, but it is night so that might be why it looks dead. When we got to
the motel to stay over night, I heard a squeal. The noise was made by two cars who had raced down
the road. We hustled into the motel for we did not know the neighborhood or anyone in Nebraska. I
am tired because I can t sleep very much in the car. So I set all of my stuff down and flop in my bed to
fall into a deep sleep. I dreamt of being in the warm arms of Arizona. My dream was very comforting
of course, but it had to end sometime. We woke up still tired, so we went and had breakfast. The motel
did not offer much, but it was good enough for now. We get back on the constructed pavement and
head straight towards Arizona. I was not looking forward to this ride, but we had to get it over with.
Nebraska is a long and boring state, I thought I would never leave the place. After waiting for what
felt like a decade, we got to Colorado. After a while, it felt like there was popcorn popping in my ear.
Then I realized it was because we were heading up hills. This was because we were heading towards
the mountains. The mountains were white on the top and what seemed like a very dark blue. Colorado
was colder than the other states, and we did stuff like horseback riding in the mountains and ziplining.

The Role Of Technology In Education
Technologies role
We re living in a country that is called a technologically civilized society. The use of the internet has
not changed the way that we think. However, it is making unique contributions in classrooms by
providing us with immediate and convenient access to an extraordinary amount of ideas and
information. In the world that we currently live in, technology is a very vital factor . Today most
people are more familiar with the technically advanced gadget that they carry in their backpack, or
their pocket. Every other day a new software device is being brought into the marketplace, which
helps improve our knowledge in and out of school. One of the advantages that the internet provides
students with, is being able to access all sorts of books that are available at any time. Despite the fact
that technology plays a positive role in making our school lives much easier, it also has a negative
effect. The internet seems to be impairing our ability to focus and to think deeply on any subject. The
more technology continues to grow, the more improvement it provides in an education level for
certain students; while for others it has a very different effect in the way we read and take in
information. In this paper, I will be discussing both pros and cons of the way technology is used in and
out of our schools today.
To begin with, the continuing advances in the technological world, students are

Native Ancestors Practice Cannibalism For Ritual Purposes...
Our prehistoric ancestors practiced cannibalism not because of cultural expectations, but for survival.
Our oldest taboo has been the source of many debates, with researchers having different ideas about
why our ancestors would partake in such a barbaric activity. Evidence of this practice can be found
throughout the world, but in some cases the reasons differ. This presents a difficult question to be
answered, did our prehistoric ancestors practice cannibalism for ritual purposes or for survival? In one
of the sites where human remains were found to have been cannibalised was 14,700 years ago in
Gough s Cave. Biological anthropologist Silvia Bello and her colleagues have used microscopic
analyses to confirm that at least six people were dismembered and eaten. Human bite marks were
found along the ribs and other bones and evidence also shows that tools were used to obtain marrow. It
is one of the most well known archaeological examples of cannibalism being used by our ancestors.
The time period in which these remains existed was when England s climate was becoming colder
than usual, thus killing of prey and plants. Therefore, the search for food made the hunter gatherer s of
this time period desperate for food (Bower). Author and scholar specializing in paleoanthropology
Carole Henikoff breaks down the question of why our ancestors practiced cannibalism even further by
asking, Do our emotional and physical reactions to incoming stimuli reflect instinct or

Cognitive Biases Essay
In human lives, individuals keep on experiencing about themselves and the world, in which they are
living, which create personal theories about the person itself and social environment. It is that source
of the knowledge for a person, which serves as an individual s cognitive filter and influence different
aspects of individual s thought. Such theories represent cognitive schemata which are mostly not
based on real life experiences. More often they reflect positively biased descriptions of the world or
the self and are therefore often called positive illusions (Taylor Brown, 1988) or positive cognitive
biases (Cummins Nistico, 2002). Most commonly described positive illusions include, positive view
of self, illusion of control, and unrealistic optimism. Positive cognitive biases or positive illusions
have been much criticized for their role in maintaining and promoting psychological well being
(Taylor and Brown 1988, 1994). Much of the criticism is based on the notion that it is rational thought
and not the distortion of reality that predicts mental health (Colvin Block, 1994; Myers Brewin, 1996).
The answer of this criticism is by differentiating between delusions and cognitive biases (Cummins
and Nistico, 2002). According to them delusional beliefs are incongruent ... Show more content on

So BJW has been considered another positive illusion which is not generally caused by direct
experience of just and unjust experience in life (Dalbert, 2001). On the other hand this notion implies
that people perceive more justice for themselves than for others. Although, a recent study by Sutton et
al. (2008), has challenged this claim with the findings that strength of BJW is affected by knowledge
of just and unjust events in the world. There are different strategies which are very useful for

Indentured Servants Dbq
Under the Questions To Think About Section of the reading, on page thirty five, it discusses how
historians have become greatly divided based on the questions on why slaves were slaves, and why
indentured servants were indentured servants. Historians argue that Europeans were indentured
servants and Africans were slaves because of race or racism. Other historians argue that Europeans
were indentured servants and Africans were slaves based on the availability and price of the laborers.
When asked which statement makes the most sense, one must consider all of the information
provided. After reading and analyzing the eight documeents, I can form an opinion that Europeans

The documents state that the slaves were not able to eat, and were overwhelmed by fatigue. The
author of the eighth document discusses how she lived the entire journey on the ship in fear of being
killed. The source is filled with awful images of how the slaves were treated in the 1700s. The
reasoning behind these experiences was once again because of race. The Africans were seen
differently; therefore, they were treated differently in comparison to the European indentured servants.
The fifth document is a selection of Virginia laws that discusses how indentured servants were better
off in comparison to the slaves between the 1600 and 1700s. The source provides evidence on how
people were treated based on the color of their skin, and their religion. Law IV states that people who
were not Christians, then they would be forced to be slaves. This is unfair considering the Christian
religion was not well known in Africa. This fact is still true in today s

Essay On The Road Taken And Not Taken
The Road Taken and Not Taken Response I had to choose between playing a full time summer sport or
going on family vacations in the summer. Sports enriched my life in many ways such as creating more
memories with my friends, allowing my pitching to improve, and gaining valuable team experience.
Family vacations also could have changed my life as it allows for more family time, memories, and
adventures. In the end, I chose to play a summer sport because it increased my games per year,
practices per year, and a significant increase in game experience. I am happy with my decision
because it gave me lifelong experiences.

By working with girls with varying levels of athleticism and knowledge, I was taught how to be a
team player who builds off everyone s skills. I also learned how to continue fighting even when you
are losing the battle. I learned many lessons from games. I think the most important lesson I learned is
you should never give up. Never giving up is important in sports as you can always come back and
win. In light of all my reasons I chose to play a full time summer sport, travel softball, instead of
going on family vacations.
The road I chose to not take was to go on family vacations in the summer. Had I gone on family
vacations I would have experienced more family time, created more memories, and had the adventures
of a lifetime with my family. Being able to experience more family time would allow me to make
more lasting memories with my grandparents. I could have made family memories with my relatives
which could last me lifetimes. The family adventures could have been memorable and possibly
sparked a new career interest.
My life could be very different had I made this choice. Possible changes could have been having more
family time, more family memories, and more family adventures. Having more family time could be
being able to meet up every Sunday afternoon to eat dinner. Weekends are traditionally monopolized
by tournaments, round robins, and practices. Or family time could be being able to go to the park or

Differences Between Worldliness And The Church
Terms floated in Christians circles often. Words such as worldly , flesh , lust , and more thrusted their
glare at Christians. Their message echoed together. Stay away from these things. These three words
together compile a concept common and criticized in the church. Even the Bible referenced this
concept called worldliness. Christians debated it. Gray areas encircled the concept. Regardless,
worldliness endangered the Christian with enticements but strengthened them in Christ.
Worldliness, a synonym of materialism, meant an interest in, concern with, or devotion to things of
this world as especially as opposed to a future stage of existence. The worldly minded person focused
on life s pleasures whether good or evil. The focus of worldliness encircled their passions and
pleasures before them in the moment. I John 2:16 defined what encompassed the world as those things
which leave God out of the picture. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the
eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. Therefore the term world referenced
fleshly lusts, eyes of lust, and pride. Anything that straggled away from God s principles could be
defined as worldliness.
Materialism in the form of fleshly lusts directed its arrow at the target of the sensual or carnal nature
of man. According to Wayne Jackson, Worldliness elevates the urgings of the flesh over the teaching
of the Spirit. Worldliness in fleshly lusting craved

The International Bill That Threatens Online Privacy Essay...
Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect Intellectual Property Act (PIPA) were big bills recently in
the EU and America that caught the attention of nearly every internet user. It was hard to not notice
these two bills. These legislations would have pushed copyright infringement on many sites and much
of the internet as it is known would have been shut down. On January 18, big sites such as Wikipedia,
and Google blacked out their site for a day. This sent a loud and clear message to the creators of this
bill and they put it on indefinite hold. While this was happening another bill decided to raise its ugly
head. It had been lurking in the shadows of the other two bills and would prove to be a much more
immense monster to face. Much like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The bill was put on a supposed indefinite hold. ACTA was finally brought to the attention by the
general public. Much like SOPA and PIPA it would cause unnecessary jailing, for crimes that would
prove meager to most of the crime in the world today. ACTA is made not only for online copyright
problems, but also to work against smuggling, and piracy. There is nothing wrong with a well written
bill that would work against fighting those crimes and shutting down illegal pirating sites. The way
ACTA is written, it would put copyright infringement on many sites that people use on a daily basis. A
clip of a little kid singing a Hannah Montana song could possibly land some unsuspecting adolescent
in jail.
Despite that fact that ACTA was poorly written it does raise some pros and cons. Any Pro ACTA
individual will claim that by instigating the bill, it will create more jobs, thus work towards fixing the
economy. The bill would also help prevent people from illegally downloading copyrighted material,
smuggling, and counterfeiting. There is no major disagreement that Artists should have better
protection for their work, but there is a fine line between protecting rights, and being beyond
ridiculous. As for creating jobs, this sounds like another case of working with the Upper Class, and
ignoring the majority of people in Middle and Lower Class. The way the bill is written it threatens

My Visit At The College Supper Happy Essay
I arrived at the College supper happy. They validated almost all of my AP credits that I had taken the
year before. I had a GPA of 5.0. Thanks to homeschool, I learned that it had payed off. Once I arrived
at my hometown I the first thing I did was go to the hill. It felt like paradise again. Since I sold all of
my expensive gear, all I had was my old board, and my helmet that I had been gifted by that person. I
never knew about him, if I see him, I need to give him thanks, and to officially meet him. After racing
down the mountain for a couple of hours I stayed to see the sunset. What I had missed all these years.
The sunset to me was like paradise. As if I had jumped a portal and landed on the other side of the
world. A place that I belonged. After years of isolation, of feeling without anything to do, with my life
like a void, not having anything, I finally felt everything. I could feel the emotion in that place. All the
memories, all the things I did. Those were good times, and I will never forget them, but then I came
back to reality, and it s that they will never come back. However I was there for a reason, I needed to
complete my mission and my promise. Then, off into the distance, I saw two people. From the top of
my lungs I shouted. Come on! I think I won this time! I could never forget that white suit of Jexaviers
and Daniels yellow suit. They looked like two bananas inside them. Their helmets were white and
yellow as well. They stoped to look at me from

Is Diversity an Issue Within Law Enforcement From the Past...
The term diversity refers to the condition of being diverse; thus, composed of distinct forms or
qualities (The Merriam Webster Dictionary, 2004). Looking back at the history of the U.S., there has
always been a diverse population in many jurisdictions. But did policy agency workforces mirror this
diversity of the communities they served? When in the past the issue of diversity within law
enforcement was at stake, where the same measures used today the same as the in the past? The U.S s

Water And Its Properties That Makes It A Essential For All...
1. Introduction
Water and its properties are very essential for all living things. In fact, scientists are paying close
attention to presence of liquid water on other planets in efforts to find extraterrestrial life in space.
Water has properties that makes it a key role to sustain life 1. As it is a universal solvent, it acts as a
medium for most biochemical reactions 2. Without water, it is impossible for a living thing to
function. Zooming out, water is important in daily life as many aspects depend on water. Water is used
for domestic and industrial purposes. On average, people in the United States drink 110 million gallon
of water everyday 3. In total, 400 billion gallon of water is used in United states everyday 4. Natural
freshwater is not completely pure. It contains solute dissolved from erosion of minerals and dissolved
gases from the atmosphere 5. Calcium, Ca2+, and magnesium, Mg2+, are the most common and
abundant solutes found in natural waters. This is due to the presence of natural minerals such as
limestone and dolomite 6. The hardness of water is defined as the concentration of dissolved mineral
cations, mainly calcium and magnesium, in water. Therefore, by this definition, a hard water contains
high concentration of solutes and a soft water contains low concentration of solutes 5. The following
table shows the water hardness category according to the United States Department of Interior and the

Is Skill Level Involved In Who Is Allowed To Inject Dermal Fillers And Who Isn t?
No. The decisions are made at the state level by politicians influenced by money. Physicians may

Introduction. Erik Erickson’S Interest In How One’S...
Introduction Erik Erickson s interest in how one s environment and social interaction drives human
behavior and the development of personality, led him to create the psychosocial theory, Eight Stages
of Man. Erikson s final four stages of psychosocial development describes a person s development
from adolescence to late adulthood. This paper will analyze the final four stages of development,
which includes: Adolescence, Young Adulthood, Middle Adulthood, and Late Adulthood. However,
one of the major criticisms of the stage theories is that they do not equally apply to all individuals.
Each stage of development looks different depending on a person s culture, gender, environment, etc.

22). This stage may also be impacted by a person s sexual identity. According to Levy (2009),
sexual identity is not simple or clean cut and does not stand alone. It intersects with other aspects of
identity such as race, ethnicity, class, gender, religion, education, and so forth (p. 982). What is
considered normal sexual behavior does not constitute homosexuality. Therefore, adolescents who are
struggling with their sexuality, may run into an identity crisis by trying to find themselves while trying
to appeal to societal norms. While the pressure to conform to the heterosexual norm, gays and lesbians
may struggle with their same sex desires. Further, with this schism between their desires, behaviors,
and identities, individuals may experience isolation, low self esteem, depression, and anger (Levy,
2009, p. 983). Unsuccessful resolution of this crisis may lead to role confusion or identity diffusion
(Robins et. all, 2012, p. 215). According to Robins et. Al (2012), youths who emerge with a strong
sense of identity and individuality gain a lasting ego quality of fidelity, or freely pledged loyalties (p.
215).
Intimacy Vs. Isolation Erik Erikson s sixth stag of psychosocial development is Young Adulthood
(early to late 20s). Erikson describes this stage as the young adult develops ability to give and receive

Murder Is My Business Mystery Research Paper
The Mystery of Detective Novels The detective genre is recognizable by the mystery that it represents
or establishes. Every word of a fiction novel is chosen with a purpose, and that purpose on a detective
novel is to create suspense. The excerpts from The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler, Murder Is My
Business by Lynette Prucha, and Devil in a Blue Dress by Walter Mosley, create an atmosphere of
suspense and mystery. Even though they all fit into this category, there are some differences that make
each novel unique. The imagery that the authors offer in the excerpts helps the reader to distinguish
the similarities and the differences. The words that the authors use on their novel unveil the mystery
that every detective novel contains. The authors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Big Sleep, Marlowe, a white man, shows his personality as he describes the stained glass panel
that shows a knight in dark armor rescuing a lady who was tied to a tree and the knight was not really
trying to rescue the lady. Marlowe is a knight in his society and as any good knight, he is very
chivalrous not like the dark knight (other ethnicities) on the panel. He says that he needs to climb up
there and help the knight to rescue the lady, showing how chivalrous he really is and how others need
the help of a white man. In Murder Is My Business, Marino is a lesbian detective with a damsel in
distress syndrome. However, she is cautious and smart enough to know that Mrs. Hunnicut s story
smelled as rotten as a bonito left out in the sun, but her attraction to Mrs. Hunnicut and her syndrome
to help everyone drives her to help Mrs. Hunnicut anyway. In this story the typical white detective is
changed, giving a woman the main role and thus the white people s power. In Devil in a Blue Dress,
the detective, Rawlins, is an African American who is fully aware of the racial discrimination that
exists towards African Americans. He is captivated or even being manipulated by Daphne, a white
girl. Changing the detectives ethnicity reveals the position that their ethnicity represents on

In some states there are provisions that will not honor living wills pertaining to pregnant women. Case
in point, Marlise Mun ̃oz from Texas was found unconscious at home by her husband, at the time Mrs.
Mun ̃oz was 14 weeks pregnant. A few days later it was determined that Mrs. Mun ̃oz was brain dead.
Although Marlise had advance directives in place, because of laws in the state of Texas, physicians
denied the woman in question requests not to receive life sustaining treatment due to the pregnancy.
Therefore, be sure to ask several questions and gain complete clarity on this subject. When one
decides to write their own living will, it can be incredibly detailed or as simple as the individual

forms have many options listed to help an individual devise a clear and precise document revealing
one s end of life requirements. Haman (2004) has provided an example of the information that an
individual can include in a personal living will form: Including coverage for a persistent vegetative

intravenous feeding); Stating that you do want life prolonging procedures; and, Having spaces for you

Advantages Of Economic Profit
1.0 INTRODUCTION
In finance, the proposed objective of the firm is the maximisation of economic profit. This maximising
objective is expressed in terms of the market value of the firm s shares. These notions should not be
confused with accounting profit which usually attempts to match periodic revenues and expenses as
well as other concepts. As a result, accounting profit is somewhat arbitrary and fails to take account of
all factors which affect shareholders wealth.
The discussion on the forms of corporate organisations revealed that, there are a number of advantages
that investors and owners derive. What business firms are seeking to achieve and therefore what
investment and financing decisions should seek to promote is a question central to business finance
and one which has attracted considerable discussion as the subject has developed ... Show more

However, maximization of profit is far too broad a definition of what is likely to be beneficial to
shareholders.
2.1 Why is profit maximisation not the best operational goal?
Emery and Finnerty (1997) posit three important reasons why profit maximization is not the best
operational goal. First, profit maximization is vague. Profit has many different definitions. Do we
mean accounting profits (based on book values) or economic profit (based on market value and
beyond a fair return)?
Secondly, profit maximization ignores differences in when we get the money. Profit maximization
does not distinguish between getting a cedi today and getting a cedi in the future, such as a year from
today.
Third, profit maximization ignores risk differences between alternatives. When given a choice
between two alternatives that have the same return but different risk, most people choose the less risky
one. This makes the less risky alternative more valuable. Profit maximisation ignores such differences

The Physics of Roller Coasters Essay
The Physics of Roller Coasters
The roller coaster has its beginnings in Russia where during the 1600 s. People crafted sleds out of
wood and built hills made of ice blocks. The hills had sand at the bottom to help slow down the sleds
so they would not crash when they reached the bottom of the hill.1 Over time, the roller coaster has
become more complex. They now are taller, faster and are designed out of different materials like
wood and steel. Although roller coasters are fun and exciting, the questions, what allows them to twist
and turn, go up and down hills at a fairly good speed? Why do they not fall off of the track when it
goes through a loop? The answer to these questions and others about roller coasters lies in the
application ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then as the coaster begins its decent down the first hill, the energy is converted back into kinetic
energy as the train is pulled toward the Earth by gravity. Gravity is the traditional source of power for
roller coasters that accelerates the train as it goes on its hilly, twisty journey.3 Gravity is a unit of
acceleration, that is always present, that causes free falling objects on Earth to change their speed at a
rate of approximately 10 m/s (32ft/s) every second.1 So, as the train goes down the hills of the track it
has a positive acceleration giving it the necessary potential energy to climb the next hill, make a turn,
or travel through a loop.
Also, as the train goes down the hills and loops, it experiences a free fall effect.
This occurs when an object falls and is not inhibited by other objects2 (314 315). As the train goes
down the hill, the coasters mass causes it to accelerate faster than the people in the car. During the free
fall stages of the ride the train does not exert any pressure on the riders or the track causing the riders
to feel momentarily weightlessness. This is why the train has wheels on the bottom of the track and
the passengers of the train have some sort of restraining device to hold them into their seats.3 So, as
the train goes down the hill it is actually falling, causing the velocity of the train to increase due to the

Fate And Free Will In Homer s Odyssey
As mortal beings, our own fate is determined by the individual choices we make over the course of
our lives, mainly because these selections ultimately define who we are and what we do in life. My
reasons for this being, primarily, each decision we make during a lifetime has an impact upon our
lives. The next being, we pay the consequences for all of the good and bad we commit in life. Finally,
we decide whether to make a good life for ourselves or relinquish our opportunities to do so. While
there is a God who oversees the universe and each of our individual lives, he allows for our free will
and the choice to which road we choose to take in life. He doesn t control us as puppets on strings, but
allows for us to create our own fate, or destiny. This is confirmed by the several sources I will
elaborate on in the paragraphs subsequent to this introduction. ... Show more content on

It isn t necessarily relevant concerning the size of the impact, but the fact that our choices do make a
virtuous or malign difference. For example, in the Odyssey, Odysseus decides to send two men and a
runner to learn about the island where the Lotus Eaters live. In the beginning, it was just the usual
decision a leader makes, nothing out of the ordinary, right? Well so it appeared, but as a consequence
for taking the risk, Odysseus loses the men he sent because those who took of the Lotus plan refused
to leave. This had to have a pretty big impact upon his life because these men were part of his crew,
and the fewer the crew, the harder it is to accomplish things. Another example of the impact decisions
have on our lives is in the Adjustment Bureau where Damon Norris decides to be Elise, the woman he
is supposedly supposed to be kept away from; consequently, this decision sets The Plan off balance
and ultimately alters human

The Abolition Movement Of The 1800s
The Abolition Movement in the 1800s was a controversial time for America. There were many who
fought for the right to keep slaves, but there were also many who fought for the freedom of slaves.
People like Fredrick Douglass Anthony Burns, and works such as Uncle Tom s Cabin gave a sense of
liberty to the people who did not understand how little they had, and how restricted they were. Many
factors had key roles within this movement, each becoming important, and crucial to the abolishment
of slavery. The American Anti Slavery Society played key roles in the abolition of slavery. The Anti
Slavery Society is what began the abolitionist movement. It was founded in Philadelphia by William
Lloyd Garrison, Arthur and Lewis Tappan, and a few others. This ensemble issued the Declaration of
the Anti Slavery Convention; the Declaration of the Anti Slavery Convention announced the reasons
for formation of the society and establishing its goals. Annually, they distributed the Anti Slavery
Almanac; an almanac containing poems, drawings, essays, and other abolitionist material. This
almanac would show whoever saw it the true horrors of slavery. It would show the living conditions
and strenuous labor that these people had to go through daily, in hopes to open the eyes of those who
did not realize how inhumanly these people were treated. Fredrick Douglass is a very important man
with the concept of the abolition of slavery. He, himself was a slave who escape confinement in

The Souk Al-Manakh Stock Market Crash
Introduction
In August of 1982, an informal Kuwait stock market known as Souk al Manakh collapsed (Rasmaroni,
2006). This happened when a female speculator presented a post dated check for payment and it
bounced ( Kuwait s Souk , n.d.). This relatively small destabilising factor caused enormous losses, and
the financial system was nearly crippled with some $92 billion (Rasmaroni, 2006) from about 6,000
investors ( Kuwait s Souk , n.d.). Is this event the only factor that caused the crash? And what made
the crash so huge? To reveal the answer we have to dig deeper into history.

With only about half of the Souk al Manakh companies even publishing annual reports, most of these
companies were little more than shell games with very little in the way of assets, let alone earnings.
Company fundamentals mattered very little, however, to traders who regularly saw these same stocks
rising 20 to 50 percent a month. Eventually, the securities of fifty four real and fictitious off shore
companies were traded on the Souk al Manakh with no relation to company performances or
prospects. Most of these companies had been founded as recently as 1979 or 1980 ( Kuwait s Souk ,
n.d.).
Adding fuel to the fire was the type of informal margin financing through the use of post dated checks.
They were accepted as a cash equivalent. This type of personal credit didn t require a bank balance. (
Kuwait s Souk , n.d.) The Kuwaiti culture mandated that payment should be made, else you would
have violated the tradition of trust and caused a loss of face upon the entire family. This caused a big
amount of speculative capital letting the Kuwaiti stocks skyrocket. The shares increased by an average
of 63% in 1981 ( Kuwait s Souk , n.d.). Not all transactions were made using post dated checks. At
least some of Kuwaiti merchants were willing to invest money of the stock exchange. They

The Military Events of the Meiji Restoration Essay
In this investigation I will look at the major historical and military events of the transition of the Edo
period to the Meiji Period and the Meiji Restoration and look at how they relate to the freedom of

Japan during the periods of 1600 1868 A.D. was a land of seclusion, military power and oppression.
This was known as the Edo period. This however was one of the most peaceful times in Japan s
history. This peace was established through the military powers of the Tokugawa Shogunate. This
peace brought with it no real individual freedoms. The supposed ruler of Japan the emperor was

The Black Ships (1853 56 A.D.)
During the rule of the Tokugawa Shogunate, there was a policy in place that cut ties with any other
countries. This policy was known as the Seclusion Policy. This policy limited the amount of trade with
other countries. This policy was still in place during the arrival of the Black Ships. The Black Ships
were a series of American gunships with the intent on establishing diplomatic and trade ties between
Japan and the United States of America. This was an invitation delivered from the president of the
United States, Millard Fillmore, through Commodore Matthew Perry. After Perry had delivered the
message from the president, the ships left and promised to return in one year s time. This ultimatum
intimidated Japan. This started a negotiation that ended the Seclusion policy. The document known as
the Harry Treaty, negotiated by the first U.S. consul, Townsend Harris, gave special provisions over
the other nations and started to end the Seclusion Policy. This treaty leads to further oppression of the
Japanese but not by their own government but the Western world. This will be discussed later.
The Fall of the Tokugawa Shogunate (1867 A.D.)
This series of events began to undermine the Shogunate. The Japanese people began to have a foreign
influence that was intimidating. This intimidation was crucial as the people were scared of the
American forces that also returned a year later. This left

Using the Correlational Method to Study the Divided Brain
The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the correlational method as a means for examining the
relationship between functions of the left and right hemispheres. I will compare the performance of
people with intact brains with the performance of so called split brain patients. In many ways, the
brains of these two groups are very similar. 1a. The brain stem is found in the deepest part of the brain.
The brainstem controls the automatic survival functions of the body, such as breathing. There are no
differences between the function of the normal brainstem and the brain of a split brain patient. The
brainstem will still supply the automatic survival functions of the body. 1b. The hippocampus is found
in the limbic system along with the amygdala, the hypothalamus. The hippocampus is in charge of
allowing the body to process information into memories. Without the hippocampus, there is no way
for new memories to be created. There is no anatomical difference between the hippocampus in the
normal brain and a split brain. 1c. The corpus callosum is found in the center of the brain. The role it
plays as a part of the brain is it connects both the left and right hemispheres of the brain, allowing
them to work and interact together as a whole system. The difference between the anatomy of the
corpus callosum in a split brain patient versus someone without a

This paper sets out to review the role of entrepreneurship in stimulating economic growth, reducing
unemployment and increasing levels of income in low to middle income countries. Nieman and

to their special qualities. They also further states that entrepreneurs have been responsible for growth
and development over the centuries and are identified as the key role players in the economy of every

He further states that it always has to do with bringing about a different use of resources in that they
are withdrawn from their traditional employ and subjected to new combinations. Schumpeter relates
entrepreneurship to be influenced by entrepreneurs who are innovative and these people have to be
extra ordinary as they have to come up with extra ordinary events. They come up with new
technological possibilities hence are able to establish large businesses from these. Carland etal. (1984)
confirms that an entrepreneur is someone innovative and further says that he or she employs strategic
management practices in the business. Timmons (2000) believes entrepreneurship as the process of
creating and seizing an opportunity and pursuing it, regardless of resources currently controlled.
Nieman and Nieuwenhuizen (2009) define an entrepreneur as the person who sees an opportunity in
the market, gathers resources and creates and grows a business venture to meet these needs. They also
further states that he or she bears risk of the venture and is rewarded with profit if it succeed. With
different definitions of entrepreneurship defined by different authors through the way they define an
entrepreneur, the researcher generally defines entrepreneurship as the act of being an entrepreneur
who establishes business through the organisation of resources taking risk with the aim of realising
profit.

The Great Gatsby
What techniques does Fitzgerald use to convey the central ideas of The Great Gatsby?
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is primarily a social commentary on the state of American
society during the post war period of unprecedented affluence and prosperity.
Fitzgerald depicts 1920 s America as an age of decline in traditional social and moral values; primarily
evidenced by the cynicism, greed and the relentless yet empty pursuit of prosperity and pleasure that
various characters in The Great Gatsby exhibit. He presents a society in which uninhibited
consumerism, materialism and an all pervading desire for wealth have perverted the previously
righteous qualities of the American Dream, corrupting it in the process. ... Show more content on

Daisy s superficiality and ephemeral qualities are achieved largely by Fitzgerald s use of diction in
Daisy s conversations and descriptions of her physical characteristics. Much of Daisy s dialogue is
utterly devoid of substance, is often repetitive and its sole purpose for inclusion in the text is to
demonstrate her, and indeed the upper classes lack of direction and purpose in life, and the resultant
restlessness that originates from a life of inactivity and ease that; qualities that are perfectly
encapsulated in the line on page 17; Do you always watch for the longest day of the year and then
miss it? I always watch for the longest day in the year and then miss it. . Fitzgerald constantly
undermines the character of Daisy to demonstrate that she is the unworthy object of Gatsby s dream,
as is the social class that she symbolises. Her immorality is subtly on display through much of the
novel; she treats her own daughter with indifference, objectifying her as yet another material
accessory; That s because your mother wanted to show you off. , she remarks in Chapter VII,
displaying an apparent lack of emotional connection one would expect a mother to hold with her child.

People become homeless for numerous reasons; Foreclosure, decrease in public assistance, high

METONYMY I used to date a girl whose biggest fear was human fragility. The details of it, I mean,

In the Motion Picture Patent Company (Old Hollywood) era there was an emphasis on those that were
producing and directing the movies. With the production team as the focal point, this allowed the
production company to keep most of their profit by not having to pay actors top dollar prices. This
system also instilled control over the actors, by keeping their names from being promoted not many
people would know of the actor allowing the production companies to maintain their exclusive access

great combination of materials due to the home site of waterfalls, springs and lush vegetation. Fred
Roberts named their newly constructed home from the time Tropical Terrade. Fred insisted that the
architect included an elaborate fire protection system for the home and build using only fire resistant
materials. Before Fred Roberts was able to see his dream home he passed away in1976. Shortly a few
years later the house was destroyed in 1982 by a wildfire that frequently burned through the canyon to
the ocean. The Santa Monica Mountains first opened Solstice Canyons a public park in 1988. This
landmark is now managed by the national park Service and is free to the public with no parking or
entrance fee. It is highly recommended to take plenty of water and comfortable shoes. It is estimated
to takes about three hours to complete the hiking trail and the park is open to the public seven day a
weeks. It is best to arrive early in the morning to Solstice Canyon because parking is limited. There
are several animals one can spot on the trails such as wild

The Benefits Of Water Fluoridation
Water fluoridation was first implemented in the USA in 1945 and since then there are around 25
countries in the world that receive fluoridated water and around 10% of the UK population.
Fluoridation schemes started when a significant association of fluoride and lower incidence of tooth
decays was noticed, in naturally occurring fluoridated areas with 1mg/L of fluoride. Therefore,
fluoride has been added where needed, in order to obtain the optimal concentration of around 1mg/L.
This concentration is determined the optimal, as it is where the public gets the maximum prevention of
dental caries with the minimum adverse effects. In the UK, Birmingham was the first city that
introduced fluoridation and it was estimated that between 1970 and 1980, ... Show more content on

About 50% of ingested fluoride is excreted through urine within 24 hours (Peter Gluckman; David
Skegg, 2014). Various factors may affect its bioavailability, for instance when it is ingested with food
it delays its absorption. The solubility and the complex formulation may also reduce the extent of
absorption. Unbounded free ions of fluoride are distributed via the circulation throughout the
intracellular and extracellular body fluids with volume of distribution of 0.5 0.7 L/kg (WHO 2000).
Plasma concentration is affected by the renal status and urinary pH, for example people with low
glomerular filtration rate have increased plasma fluoride concentration, thus increased levels of
fluoride in tissues and consequently are more susceptible to fluorosis (Peter Gluckman; David Skegg,
2014). Excretion may also occur through faeces and sweat. The remaining amount deposits and retains
in bones and teeth, where it incorporates into the crystal network. Bone retention reflects long term
exposure to fluoride and is affected by the factors such as age, sex and type of bone. Young children
with growing bones have much higher retention of fluoride compared to adults. Fluoride may also be
released back to the circulation when bones are remodeled, therefore plasma levels switch according
to this exchange between bones and circulation. It is also released

Last Of The Mohicans Plot
Throughout the movie The Last of the Mohicans there were many exciting plot points, as well as a
great soundtrack. The main character, Hawkeye, was a colonial settler adopted by Chingachgook, a
Mohican, after the death of his family. Major Duncan Heyward escorts Colonel Munro s daughters,
Cora and Alice, to Fort William Henry where he is there with the British Army. On the way to Fort
William Henry, Magua, supposedly a Mohican indian allied with the British, attacks the British
Regiment with a war party of Huron Indians. It is here that Hawkeye comes in and he and his
Mohican family, Uncas and Chingachgook, save the Major and the Munro girls. They arrive at the fort
as it is under siege from the French. They meet up with their father,

The Innovation Of Film In The 19th Century
During the mid to late years of the 19th century, a new form of entertainment emerged. Film entered
the stage of innovation. New marketing and technological innovations developed for film to become
the art it is today. In the 1830s, Joseph Plateau designed the Phenakistoscope. This device had a
picture in the middle of a wheel made with mirrors and small openings. When spun, the
Phenakistoscope made the picture appear to move. The name changed to Zoetrope in the 1860s and
producers advertised the product as an accessory every home needed (Dixon Foster, 2008). Later
inventions that preceded the first motion picture camera include: Henry Du Mont s Omiscope, Henry
R. Heyl s Phasmatrope, Eadweard Muybridge s Zoöpraxiscope, Etienne Jules Marey s fusil
photographique and Eastman Kodak s chronophotographs (Parkinson, 1997). With a design by
Thomas Edison, William Kennedy Laurie Dickson built the first modern movie camera, the
Kinetograph, in 1890 (Dixon Foster, 2008). In 1895, Auguste and Louis Lumiére patented the
Cinématographe, a machine that combined the engineering of a camera and a projector (Bergan,
2006). Businessmen capitalized on the growing need for a place to witness these brand new films, thus
they charged people to see them in their living rooms (Potter, 2014). These creations made movie
making a reality. Directors during film s innovation period The art of film made it s way into the
penetration stage around the turn of the century and remained there until

The Nazi Regime Was Defined By Its Fascism Policies
The Nazi regime was defined by its fascism policies in Germany that had on huge implications on the
country s socio political and economic settings. The National sozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei
(Nazi) evolved from the German Worker s Party. Adolf Hitler was the man behind the establishment of
the Nazi party into the German political system as he rose to power in the late 1920s. He was the
leader of the Nazi party. The party came to being from the Weimar Republic, which came about after
Germany was defeated in the First World War. The defeat of Germany in World War I paved the way
for the formation of a democratic nation of Germany with a democratic constitution and federal
structure. The Versailles Treaty seemed to oppress Germany ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Germany as a country was hard hit by the effects of the war with the years to follow seeing the
country go through both political and economic instability. Hitler grew up in this era when Germany
was facing many sanctions imposed by the Allied Forces through the Versailles Treaty. After serving
in the First World War I, he resigned his military career to join the German Worker s Party where he
rose through the ranks to be the party leader, and he changed the party s name to the famously known
National sozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (Nazi). Hitler took this as the right platform to get
more power in Germany to oppose the influence of the Allied Forces in Germany. He underwent a lot
of power struggles as he tried to mobilize popular support for the Nazi party. It was until 1932 when
the party gunned a total of 37% of the votes in the election which was largest share of votes in the
election. This meant Hitler was a leader of unimaginable power within the Nazi party and Germany
and by 1933, he was the chancellor of Germany. After the death of President Hindenburg in 1934,
Hitler became Der Fuhrer and he assumed the presidential powers including those of the supreme
commander of the armed forces. This marked the onset fascism and destruction of democracy in
Germany. From the mysterious fire in the German Parliament which gave Hitler an excuse to assume
all the powers in Germany.

Intellectual Disability Essay
Under the law, intellectual disability in relation to a person over the age of 5 years, is defined as
significant sub average general intellectual functioning; and significant deficits in adaptive behaviour,
each of which manifest before the age of 18 years.
Legal Responses
Legislation
Many intellectually disabled individuals are mis treated and discriminated against in the work place or
the community. In response to this, two main acts have been established ; the Disability
Discrimination Act 1992 (Cwlth) and the Anti Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW). Although some forms
of discrimination are not covered by legislation, parliament has ensured that people with an
intellectual disability have equal access to resources such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Many people and organisations have changed their views and practices because of anti discrimination
legislation. Also, such legislation sends a powerful message to society that those with disabilities are
equal members of the community.
Application of the rule of law: It may be the case that offenders are treated too easily when they
appear before the court;
Some people feel that their rights go too far. These rights include the right to not answer a question
from the police during investigation, the privilege against self incrimination and the right to have no
adverse comments made at a trial on the failure to answer questions or give evidence at a trial. This
might make it hard to apply the rule of law (that no one is above the law) if the offender is given these
advantages. However on the other end of the scale, it maintains the rule of law as it provides every
individual with the right to a fair trial.
Criticism
Disempowerment of the disabled (Accessibility) Many intellectually disabled individuals are in
situations of great dependency where they are virtually powerless. This makes it difficult for the
individual to use the anti discrimination legislation as a discriminatory remedy.
Resource Efficiency: An intellectually disabled individual (or their guardian) may not have access to
the financial resources needed to pay for a court trial. Also, if an

The Fair Work Commission ( Fwc )
This week saw the Fair Work Commission (FWC) bring down an adjustment to Penalty rates in
Australia for some Retail and Hospitality Workers. If you read the newspapers, listen to the radio, and
watch TV coverage it comes across as the greatest betrayal of the working man (or woman) since the
great Depression.
In this article I ll give my view on this. Disclaimer: I own a couple of Small Business s which
(potentially) benefit from this decision. I have looked after the HR department of a larger ASX listed
company in the past and have some reasonable HR experience. I also really think retail shops should
be closed on a Sunday so people can do other (more sociable, community and family friendly)
activities rather than trudging around shops ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In relation to Sunday rates, the commission cut: Hospitality award rates for full time and part time
workers from 175% to 150% Fast food award rates for level one employees from 150% to 125% for
full time and part time employees and from 175% to 150% for casuals Retail award rates for full time
and part time employees from 200% to 150% and for casuals from 200% to 175% Pharmacy award
rates from 200% to 150% for full time and part time workers for work between 7am and 9pm, and
from 200% to 175% for casuals at the same times.
Sunday rates remained at 175% for casuals in the hospitality industry, and there was no cut for level
two and three employees in the fast food award. The commission cut public holiday rates in the
hospitality and retail awards except for clubs from 250% to 225% for full time and part time
employees. The casuals rate will be 250%.
Interestingly the FWC sis not adjust the penalty rates for the Award that governs restaurants.
The Summary of the FWC ruling can be found here:

Business Response
Unsurprisingly the employer groups have come out and stated that this would lead to an increase in
employment. Being generous (cynical) I would suggest that it will lead to more employment for
lobbyists. Given the reductions in penalty rates simply apply for Sundays, and are really minor in
nature, I

  • 2. Daniel Ben Jacob Thesis Daniel ben Jacob (c. 1060 c. 1120) was a Jewish philosopher and rabbi that lived in Metz, France for the majority of his early life. After the Rhineland massacres in 1096, he fled to Germany to seek safety. However, after the Crusade was planned to continued into the German cities of Mainz and Cologne, Daniel ben Jacob informed King Henry IV of Germany. Daniel ben Jacob is most well known for his works of biblical exegesis, of which he sent to King Henry IV in order to influence the protection of Jewish communities in Germany. His exegesis is known to be what saved the lives of Jewish communities during the late 11th century and early 12th century. These great feat eventually led to Daniel ben Jacob receiving the honorary title Rhineland Gaon, ( Pride of the Rhineland ). Through the remainder of his lifetime, Rhineland Gaon worked to protect and promote the growth of Jewish communities in Germany through his allegorical ... • 3. Descriptive Essay On The Road It all started at my house, my safe place, if you will. I see my dog, she is excited for the ride. We are about to start our journey, but we need to pack our bags. I am packing and my eyes are drooping because it is early in the morning. I finally get done and we put our stuff in the car. I get in and I hear the engine turning and then a constant buzzing sound, the car is on. 3....2....1.... We start our journey as we unite rubber to the cement. I roll down the window and take a deep breath of fresh air. In the air I smell an absolutely disgusting stench. It is a pig farm to the west of us. I roll my window up to avoid the bad smell. We are on our way to Arizona and I see a sign telling me that we are at the border of Nebraska. The sign says, Nebraska ... the good life, and there is a picture of a mountain and a red sun behind it. I roll down my window, knowing that we are out of the smelly state of Iowa, and breath in fresh air again. I see a boring place, but it is night so that might be why it looks dead. When we got to the motel to stay over night, I heard a squeal. The noise was made by two cars who had raced down the road. We hustled into the motel for we did not know the neighborhood or anyone in Nebraska. I am tired because I can t sleep very much in the car. So I set all of my stuff down and flop in my bed to fall into a deep sleep. I dreamt of being in the warm arms of Arizona. My dream was very comforting of course, but it had to end sometime. We woke up still tired, so we went and had breakfast. The motel did not offer much, but it was good enough for now. We get back on the constructed pavement and head straight towards Arizona. I was not looking forward to this ride, but we had to get it over with. Nebraska is a long and boring state, I thought I would never leave the place. After waiting for what felt like a decade, we got to Colorado. After a while, it felt like there was popcorn popping in my ear. Then I realized it was because we were heading up hills. This was because we were heading towards the mountains. The mountains were white on the top and what seemed like a very dark blue. Colorado was colder than the other states, and we did stuff like horseback riding in the mountains and ziplining. It ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The use of the internet has not changed the way that we think. However, it is making unique contributions in classrooms by providing us with immediate and convenient access to an extraordinary amount of ideas and information. In the world that we currently live in, technology is a very vital factor . Today most people are more familiar with the technically advanced gadget that they carry in their backpack, or their pocket. Every other day a new software device is being brought into the marketplace, which helps improve our knowledge in and out of school. One of the advantages that the internet provides students with, is being able to access all sorts of books that are available at any time. Despite the fact that technology plays a positive role in making our school lives much easier, it also has a negative effect. The internet seems to be impairing our ability to focus and to think deeply on any subject. The more technology continues to grow, the more improvement it provides in an education level for certain students; while for others it has a very different effect in the way we read and take in information. In this paper, I will be discussing both pros and cons of the way technology is used in and out of our schools today. To begin with, the continuing advances in the technological world, students are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Native Ancestors Practice Cannibalism For Ritual Purposes... Our prehistoric ancestors practiced cannibalism not because of cultural expectations, but for survival. Our oldest taboo has been the source of many debates, with researchers having different ideas about why our ancestors would partake in such a barbaric activity. Evidence of this practice can be found throughout the world, but in some cases the reasons differ. This presents a difficult question to be answered, did our prehistoric ancestors practice cannibalism for ritual purposes or for survival? In one of the sites where human remains were found to have been cannibalised was 14,700 years ago in Gough s Cave. Biological anthropologist Silvia Bello and her colleagues have used microscopic analyses to confirm that at least six people were dismembered and eaten. Human bite marks were found along the ribs and other bones and evidence also shows that tools were used to obtain marrow. It is one of the most well known archaeological examples of cannibalism being used by our ancestors. The time period in which these remains existed was when England s climate was becoming colder than usual, thus killing of prey and plants. Therefore, the search for food made the hunter gatherer s of this time period desperate for food (Bower). Author and scholar specializing in paleoanthropology Carole Henikoff breaks down the question of why our ancestors practiced cannibalism even further by asking, Do our emotional and physical reactions to incoming stimuli reflect instinct or ... • 6. Cognitive Biases Essay In human lives, individuals keep on experiencing about themselves and the world, in which they are living, which create personal theories about the person itself and social environment. It is that source of the knowledge for a person, which serves as an individual s cognitive filter and influence different aspects of individual s thought. Such theories represent cognitive schemata which are mostly not based on real life experiences. More often they reflect positively biased descriptions of the world or the self and are therefore often called positive illusions (Taylor Brown, 1988) or positive cognitive biases (Cummins Nistico, 2002). Most commonly described positive illusions include, positive view of self, illusion of control, and unrealistic optimism. Positive cognitive biases or positive illusions have been much criticized for their role in maintaining and promoting psychological well being (Taylor and Brown 1988, 1994). Much of the criticism is based on the notion that it is rational thought and not the distortion of reality that predicts mental health (Colvin Block, 1994; Myers Brewin, 1996). The answer of this criticism is by differentiating between delusions and cognitive biases (Cummins and Nistico, 2002). According to them delusional beliefs are incongruent ... Indentured Servants Dbq Under the Questions To Think About Section of the reading, on page thirty five, it discusses how historians have become greatly divided based on the questions on why slaves were slaves, and why indentured servants were indentured servants. Other historians argue that Europeans were indentured servants and Africans were slaves based on the availability and price of the laborers. The reasoning behind these experiences was once again because of race. The Africans were seen differently; therefore, they were treated differently in comparison to the European indentured servants. The fifth document is a selection of Virginia laws that discusses how indentured servants were better off in comparison to the slaves between the 1600 and 1700s. The source provides evidence on how people were treated based on the color of their skin, and their religion. Law IV states that people who were not Christians, then they would be forced to be slaves. This is unfair considering the Christian religion was not well known in Africa. Family vacations also could have changed my life as it allows for more family time, memories, and adventures. In the end, I chose to play a summer sport because it increased my games per year, practices per year, and a significant increase in game experience. Never giving up is important in sports as you can always come back and win. In light of all my reasons I chose to play a full time summer sport, travel softball, instead of going on family vacations. The road I chose to not take was to go on family vacations in the summer. Had I gone on family vacations I would have experienced more family time, created more memories, and had the adventures of a lifetime with my family. • 9. Differences Between Worldliness And The Church Terms floated in Christians circles often. Words such as worldly , flesh , lust , and more thrusted their glare at Christians. Their message echoed together. Stay away from these things. These three words together compile a concept common and criticized in the church. Even the Bible referenced this concept called worldliness. Christians debated it. Gray areas encircled the concept. Regardless, worldliness endangered the Christian with enticements but strengthened them in Christ. Worldliness, a synonym of materialism, meant an interest in, concern with, or devotion to things of this world as especially as opposed to a future stage of existence. The worldly minded person focused on life s pleasures whether good or evil. The focus of worldliness encircled their passions and pleasures before them in the moment. I John 2:16 defined what encompassed the world as those things which leave God out of the picture. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. Therefore the term world referenced fleshly lusts, eyes of lust, and pride. Anything that straggled away from God s principles could be defined as worldliness. Materialism in the form of fleshly lusts directed its arrow at the target of the sensual or carnal nature of man. According to Wayne Jackson, Worldliness elevates the urgings of the flesh over the teaching of the Spirit. Worldliness in fleshly lusting craved ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The International Bill That Threatens Online Privacy Essay... Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect Intellectual Property Act (PIPA) were big bills recently in the EU and America that caught the attention of nearly every internet user. It was hard to not notice these two bills. These legislations would have pushed copyright infringement on many sites and much of the internet as it is known would have been shut down. On January 18, big sites such as Wikipedia, and Google blacked out their site for a day. This sent a loud and clear message to the creators of this bill and they put it on indefinite hold. While this was happening another bill decided to raise its ugly head. It had been lurking in the shadows of the other two bills and would prove to be a much more immense monster to face. Much like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The bill was put on a supposed indefinite hold. ACTA was finally brought to the attention by the general public. Much like SOPA and PIPA it would cause unnecessary jailing, for crimes that would prove meager to most of the crime in the world today. ACTA is made not only for online copyright problems, but also to work against smuggling, and piracy. There is nothing wrong with a well written bill that would work against fighting those crimes and shutting down illegal pirating sites. The way ACTA is written, it would put copyright infringement on many sites that people use on a daily basis. A clip of a little kid singing a Hannah Montana song could possibly land some unsuspecting adolescent in jail. Despite that fact that ACTA was poorly written it does raise some pros and cons. Any Pro ACTA individual will claim that by instigating the bill, it will create more jobs, thus work towards fixing the economy. The bill would also help prevent people from illegally downloading copyrighted material, smuggling, and counterfeiting. There is no major disagreement that Artists should have better protection for their work, but there is a fine line between protecting rights, and being beyond ridiculous. As for creating jobs, this sounds like another case of working with the Upper Class, and ignoring the majority of people in Middle and Lower Class. The way the bill is written it threatens ... According to Levy (2009), sexual identity is not simple or clean cut and does not stand alone. It intersects with other aspects of identity such as race, ethnicity, class, gender, religion, education, and so forth (p. 982). What is considered normal sexual behavior does not constitute homosexuality. Therefore, adolescents who are struggling with their sexuality, may run into an identity crisis by trying to find themselves while trying to appeal to societal norms. While the pressure to conform to the heterosexual norm, gays and lesbians may struggle with their same sex desires. Further, with this schism between their desires, behaviors, and identities, individuals may experience isolation, low self esteem, depression, and anger (Levy, 2009, p. 983). Unsuccessful resolution of this crisis may lead to role confusion or identity diffusion (Robins et. all, 2012, p. 215). According to Robins et. Al (2012), youths who emerge with a strong sense of identity and individuality gain a lasting ego quality of fidelity, or freely pledged loyalties (p. 215). Intimacy Vs. Do we mean accounting profits (based on book values) or economic profit (based on market value and beyond a fair return)? Secondly, profit maximization ignores differences in when we get the money. Profit maximization does not distinguish between getting a cedi today and getting a cedi in the future, such as a year from today. People crafted sleds out of wood and built hills made of ice blocks. The hills had sand at the bottom to help slow down the sleds so they would not crash when they reached the bottom of the hill.1 Over time, the roller coaster has become more complex. They now are taller, faster and are designed out of different materials like wood and steel. Although roller coasters are fun and exciting, the questions, what allows them to twist and turn, go up and down hills at a fairly good speed? Then as the coaster begins its decent down the first hill, the energy is converted back into kinetic energy as the train is pulled toward the Earth by gravity. Gravity is the traditional source of power for roller coasters that accelerates the train as it goes on its hilly, twisty journey.3 Gravity is a unit of acceleration, that is always present, that causes free falling objects on Earth to change their speed at a rate of approximately 10 m/s (32ft/s) every second.1 So, as the train goes down the hills of the track it has a positive acceleration giving it the necessary potential energy to climb the next hill, make a turn, or travel through a loop. Also, as the train goes down the hills and loops, it experiences a free fall effect. This occurs when an object falls and is not inhibited by other objects2 (314 315). As the train goes down the hill, the coasters mass causes it to accelerate faster than the people in the car. During the free fall stages of the ride the train does not exert any pressure on the riders or the track causing the riders to feel momentarily weightlessness. This is why the train has wheels on the bottom of the track and the passengers of the train have some sort of restraining device to hold them into their seats.3 So, as the train goes down the hill it is actually falling, causing the velocity of the train to increase due to the ... Fate And Free Will In Homer s Odyssey As mortal beings, our own fate is determined by the individual choices we make over the course of our lives, mainly because these selections ultimately define who we are and what we do in life. My reasons for this being, primarily, each decision we make during a lifetime has an impact upon our lives. The next being, we pay the consequences for all of the good and bad we commit in life. Finally, we decide whether to make a good life for ourselves or relinquish our opportunities to do so. While there is a God who oversees the universe and each of our individual lives, he allows for our free will and the choice to which road we choose to take in life. I will compare the performance of people with intact brains with the performance of so called split brain patients. In many ways, the brains of these two groups are very similar. 1a. The brain stem is found in the deepest part of the brain. The brainstem controls the automatic survival functions of the body, such as breathing. Fred Roberts s ambition for obtaining more land in Solstice Canyon reached almost over 1000 acres. Fred and his wife Florence Roberts hired a famous African America architecture engineer named Paul R. Williams to design a modern home for them on their family ranch, Solstice Canyon. The material used for building the home of Roberts family was wood, stone, and brick; which at the time was a great combination of materials due to the home site of waterfalls, springs and lush vegetation. Fred Roberts named their newly constructed home from the time Tropical Terrade. Fred insisted that the architect included an elaborate fire protection system for the home and build using only fire resistant materials. Before Fred Roberts was able to see his dream home he passed away in1976. Shortly a few years later the house was destroyed in 1982 by a wildfire that frequently burned through the canyon to the ocean. The Santa Monica Mountains first opened Solstice Canyons a public park in 1988. This landmark is now managed by the national park Service and is free to the public with no parking or entrance fee. • 39. The Benefits Of Water Fluoridation Water fluoridation was first implemented in the USA in 1945 and since then there are around 25 countries in the world that receive fluoridated water and around 10% of the UK population. Fluoridation schemes started when a significant association of fluoride and lower incidence of tooth decays was noticed, in naturally occurring fluoridated areas with 1mg/L of fluoride. Therefore, fluoride has been added where needed, in order to obtain the optimal concentration of around 1mg/L. This concentration is determined the optimal, as it is where the public gets the maximum prevention of dental caries with the minimum adverse effects. In the UK, Birmingham was the first city that introduced fluoridation and it was estimated that between 1970 and 1980, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... About 50% of ingested fluoride is excreted through urine within 24 hours (Peter Gluckman; David Skegg, 2014). Various factors may affect its bioavailability, for instance when it is ingested with food it delays its absorption. The solubility and the complex formulation may also reduce the extent of absorption. Unbounded free ions of fluoride are distributed via the circulation throughout the intracellular and extracellular body fluids with volume of distribution of 0.5 0.7 L/kg (WHO 2000). Plasma concentration is affected by the renal status and urinary pH, for example people with low glomerular filtration rate have increased plasma fluoride concentration, thus increased levels of fluoride in tissues and consequently are more susceptible to fluorosis (Peter Gluckman; David Skegg, 2014). Excretion may also occur through faeces and sweat. The remaining amount deposits and retains in bones and teeth, where it incorporates into the crystal network. Bone retention reflects long term exposure to fluoride and is affected by the factors such as age, sex and type of bone. Young children with growing bones have much higher retention of fluoride compared to adults. Fluoride may also be released back to the circulation when bones are remodeled, therefore plasma levels switch according to this exchange between bones and circulation. It is also released ... • 41. The Innovation Of Film In The 19th Century During the mid to late years of the 19th century, a new form of entertainment emerged. Film entered the stage of innovation. New marketing and technological innovations developed for film to become the art it is today. In the 1830s, Joseph Plateau designed the Phenakistoscope. This device had a picture in the middle of a wheel made with mirrors and small openings. When spun, the Phenakistoscope made the picture appear to move. The name changed to Zoetrope in the 1860s and producers advertised the product as an accessory every home needed (Dixon Foster, 2008). Later inventions that preceded the first motion picture camera include: Henry Du Mont s Omiscope, Henry R. Heyl s Phasmatrope, Eadweard Muybridge s Zoöpraxiscope, Etienne Jules Marey s fusil photographique and Eastman Kodak s chronophotographs (Parkinson, 1997). With a design by Thomas Edison, William Kennedy Laurie Dickson built the first modern movie camera, the Kinetograph, in 1890 (Dixon Foster, 2008). In 1895, Auguste and Louis Lumiére patented the Cinématographe, a machine that combined the engineering of a camera and a projector (Bergan, 2006). Businessmen capitalized on the growing need for a place to witness these brand new films, thus they charged people to see them in their living rooms (Potter, 2014). These creations made movie making a reality. Directors during film s innovation period The art of film made it s way into the penetration stage around the turn of the century and remained there until ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Germany as a country was hard hit by the effects of the war with the years to follow seeing the country go through both political and economic instability. Hitler grew up in this era when Germany was facing many sanctions imposed by the Allied Forces through the Versailles Treaty. After serving in the First World War I, he resigned his military career to join the German Worker s Party where he rose through the ranks to be the party leader, and he changed the party s name to the famously known National sozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (Nazi). Hitler took this as the right platform to get more power in Germany to oppose the influence of the Allied Forces in Germany. He underwent a lot of power struggles as he tried to mobilize popular support for the Nazi party. It was until 1932 when the party gunned a total of 37% of the votes in the election which was largest share of votes in the election. This meant Hitler was a leader of unimaginable power within the Nazi party and Germany and by 1933, he was the chancellor of Germany. Intellectual Disability Essay Under the law, intellectual disability in relation to a person over the age of 5 years, is defined as significant sub average general intellectual functioning; and significant deficits in adaptive behaviour, each of which manifest before the age of 18 years. Legal Responses Legislation Many intellectually disabled individuals are mis treated and discriminated against in the work place or the community. In response to this, two main acts have been established ; the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cwlth) and the Anti Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW). Although some forms of discrimination are not covered by legislation, parliament has ensured that people with an intellectual disability have equal access to resources such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many people and organisations have changed their views and practices because of anti discrimination legislation. Also, such legislation sends a powerful message to society that those with disabilities are equal members of the community. Application of the rule of law: It may be the case that offenders are treated too easily when they appear before the court; Some people feel that their rights go too far. These rights include the right to not answer a question from the police during investigation, the privilege against self incrimination and the right to have no adverse comments made at a trial on the failure to answer questions or give evidence at a trial. This might make it hard to apply the rule of law (that no one is above the law) if the offender is given these advantages. However on the other end of the scale, it maintains the rule of law as it provides every individual with the right to a fair trial. Criticism Disempowerment of the disabled (Accessibility) Many intellectually disabled individuals are in situations of great dependency where they are virtually powerless. This makes it difficult for the individual to use the anti discrimination legislation as a discriminatory remedy. Resource Efficiency: An intellectually disabled individual (or their guardian) may not have access to the financial resources needed to pay for a court trial. Also, if an ... • 44. The Fair Work Commission ( Fwc ) This week saw the Fair Work Commission (FWC) bring down an adjustment to Penalty rates in Australia for some Retail and Hospitality Workers. If you read the newspapers, listen to the radio, and watch TV coverage it comes across as the greatest betrayal of the working man (or woman) since the great Depression. In this article I ll give my view on this. Disclaimer: I own a couple of Small Business s which (potentially) benefit from this decision. I have looked after the HR department of a larger ASX listed company in the past and have some reasonable HR experience. I also really think retail shops should be closed on a Sunday so people can do other (more sociable, community and family friendly) activities rather than trudging around shops ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In relation to Sunday rates, the commission cut: Hospitality award rates for full time and part time workers from 175% to 150% Fast food award rates for level one employees from 150% to 125% for full time and part time employees and from 175% to 150% for casuals Retail award rates for full time and part time employees from 200% to 150% and for casuals from 200% to 175% Pharmacy award rates from 200% to 150% for full time and part time workers for work between 7am and 9pm, and from 200% to 175% for casuals at the same times. Sunday rates remained at 175% for casuals in the hospitality industry, and there was no cut for level two and three employees in the fast food award. The commission cut public holiday rates in the hospitality and retail awards except for clubs from 250% to 225% for full time and part time employees. The casuals rate will be 250%. Interestingly the FWC sis not adjust the penalty rates for the Award that governs restaurants. The Summary of the FWC ruling can be found here: https://www.fwc.gov.au/documents/sites/awardsmodernfouryr/2017fwcfb1001 summary.pdf Big Business Response Unsurprisingly the employer groups have come out and stated that this would lead to an increase in employment. Being generous (cynical) I would suggest that it will lead to more employment for lobbyists. Given the reductions in penalty rates simply apply for Sundays, and are really minor in nature, I ...
