The Paris Peace Conference Of 1919

10 February 2017
Creating More Problems The Paris Peace Conference of 1919 opened on the 18th of January,
with delegations from all over the world attending to lay claim to their desires, or gain reparations
for their sacrifices throughout the greatest war the world had ever been subject to. The big four
countries at the negotiating table were the British under Lloyd George, the French led by Georges
Clemenceau, The Italians and their prime minister Vittorio Emanuele Orlando, and The United
States of America under President Woodrow Wilson. Each group had their own ideas for a post
war world order, and their own tactics for reaching it. The actions of these victorious ... Show more

This leads to the British and French skirting around Wilson s goals, meeting secretly to make
decisions about the post war world, and to further their own, often imperialistic, prerogatives.
The Treaty of Versaillesagreed upon in 1919 set in motion events that would be direct causes of
World War II. According to Robert Cowley, the treaty stripped Germany of many territories,
including Eupen Malmeacutedy, given to Belgium, Alsace Lorraine to France, large amounts of
eastern lands to Poland, the Memel region to Lithuania, and most of the Schelswig area of the
Danish peninsula to Denmark. Germany lost all of her overseas colonies as well. It also forced
Germany to limit their army to 100,000 men, and forbade them certain types of weapons common
to modern armies. The worst part of all was that Germany was made to assume all the guilt for the
war, and forced them to pay an amount of war reparations unspecified at first, then set around 33
billion gold marks(Cowley). World War One: Treaties says that the peace terms imposed upon the
defeated countries, Germany, Austria, Hungary, and Bulgaria, seemed to them to be unfair and
unjust punishments.

Innovation No More
It seems we have lost the ability to innovate. We do not think the way we used to; we do not
invent new concepts or ideas, rather we just adapt ideas of the past. Our thinking now a day is
very limited to what we have already created.
Google s definition of innovating, make changes in something established, esp. by introducing new
methods, ideas, or products, suggests that innovation is now just development of an old idea. In this
definition there seems to be no mention of inventing but rather only the alteration of a product in a
way never done before. It s not that the alteration of a product is bad thing but it does create a very
limited thinking world; a world that relies on the blueprints of the past to create a future.
So have we really lost our ability to innovate? Not really, it s just that innovation has become merely
focused on technology. It seems like technology will be the future. That future will involve people
innovation of past ideas and not trying anything new due to the fear of failing. That innovation will
mostly focus on technology which can help to make money.
The novel Oryx and Crake which is based on the future shows somewhat of the real future and
what it will be like. In this science fiction novel, we are treated to a very limited thinking world in
which the main concern is technology and money. There are some technological advances evident
in this novel but not ones which are comprehensive or mind boggling. For example, there is a lot of

Feminism And Writing Through The Eyes Of Virginia Woolf
Feminism and Writing Through the Eyes of Virginia Woolf
Virginia Woolf is commonly known as a riveting feminist author who includes aspects of feminism
in most of her novels. In this particular novel she analyzes the topic of feminism, the major theme
in A Room of One s Own, with the accompanying discussion of writing. She accentuates these
themes with techniques of imagery, appeals to the emotions of the readers, and an aphoristic tone
that elucidates her point of view on women and writing. Neither weak nor lacking, Woolf is
compassionate about feminism and writing.
In the beginning of the novel, we notice how Woolf is compassionate about feminism and writing: a
woman must have a room of one s own and money if she is to write fiction (6). She expresses
that, for a woman to write effectively, she requires money and her own room. But, what is,
exactly, one s own room? A room of one s self is personal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For it needs little skill and psychology to be sure that a highly gifted girl who had tried to use her
gift for poetry would have been so thwarted and hindered by the contrary instincts, that she must
have lost her health and sanity to a certainty. (67)
With her aphoristic tone, Woolf provides the general truth on how women are expected to be
during the ages before woman and writing is acceptable. Woolf s exaggeration of a woman going
crazy or losing herself, drives the reader s emotions to imagine just how women were discouraged
of their talents. Even imagery is found in this topic: lonely cottage outside the village, mocked at,
and thwarted and hindered. As earlier explained by Woolf, a woman was not able to express her
talents before. Woolf gives an emotional effect that haves the readers imagine being in such a
situation, how torturing it

Plagiarism And The Ethics Of Plagiarism
Many scholars and parents have heard the term plagiarism while talking about writing essays,
poems, and other works. Plagiarism is defined as to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of
another) as one s own by Merriam Webster dictionary. While plagiarism may be denoted as
stealing one s work without credit, a more vast and broad definition usually applies to college level
work. Every college and universityhas their own handbook and code of conduct on what exactly
plagiarismis defined as, and what are the consequences for breaking these rules. Collin College s
Scholastic Dishonesty , Boston University s Academic Conduct Code , and Yale College s What
is Plagiarism? all have different perspectives as to what plagiarism is and how it is defined.
Collin College s Scholastic Dishonesty is set up in six sections, four having bolded first words,
showing what each paragraph is about. The wording in the sections are very formal; making it
seem as though to steal someone s work to be childish or immature. The tone, set by the wording
and overall flow of the sentences, is very serious; it makes it seem as though committing one of
these crimes is as bad and just as serious as committing murder. The list of scholastic dishonesties,
general scholastic dishonesty, plagiarism, cheating, and collusion, is very open ended. Collin
College even goes as far as saying while specific examples are listed below, this is not an exhaustive
list and scholastic dishonesty may

Comparing The Hitchhiker s Guide To The Galaxy By Douglas...
One of the most fundamental philosophical problems to be solved is the question: what is the
meaning of life? According to Albert Camus, a French existentialist writer and philosopher, a one
s urge to find the ultimate answer for the question is rather absurd. He believed that people search
for the meaning of anything is vain because a source of meaning as such is non existent. In
addition to that, Camus literary works are often associated to the idea of absurdismand that is the
thing he and Douglas Adams have in common.
Therefore, the main focus of my essay is absurdity, as it is the main theme in the work of Douglas
Adams, The Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy. But why has Adams chosen it to be one of The
Hitchhiker s leading topics?
Of course, one can argue that there cannot be a proper sci fi novel without a certain level of
absurdity included. Douglas Adams appears to agree with the idea but at the same time he seems to
believe in everything in moderation kind of approach. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Taking into account the author s intentions, after a detailed analysis I incline to the hypothesis
that Adams used the absurd as a means of expression of deeper human emotions such as anxiety,
discontent or despair. In my opinion that is the reason why he chose to include the absurd in the
story in the first place. Personally, I can understand his intentions, as it is very likely that no reader
would like a pessimistic story dealing with topics so complex and depressing, and that is why the
absurd is in

Borrelia Burgdorferi Research Paper
Lyme disease is caused by the bacteria Borrelia burgdorfer, this bacterium is transmitted to humans
through ticks. Borrelia burgdorferi is a gram negative bacterium that belongs to the spirochetes
class, its usually 1um wide but can be up to 10 25um long. Some of the structures that Borrelia
burgdorferi have are the flagellum, which allows the bacterium to migrate through viscous fluids
(i.e. blood) and burrow through tissues, the bacterium also has outer surface proteins that are OspA
and OspC which play a direct role in the transmission of the bacteriainto the host cell. Bacteria in
general do not have the limitations that viruses do, viruses must have a living host in order to
reproduce. Most bacteria are able to grow on non living surfaces and live intercellularly. Lyme
diseaseis easy to identify because of the bullseye that results from the tickbite infected with Borrelia
burgdorfer. Viruses are extremely unique to the microbial world they are the smallest and
simplest microbe. Virions are only 20 400nm in size, and they do not have any way to replicate

Descartes Discourse on Method
Understanding Descartes Method of Doubt
Clear your mind, if you will, of everything you have ever seen or known to be true. To begin
understanding Rene Descartes method of doubt, you need to suspend all prejudice and prior
judgments and start with a clean slate for the purpose of discovering some ultimate truth on
which to base all thought. (Kolak, Pg.225). Discouraged with much skepticism from his own
beliefs, Descartes was embarrassed of his own ignorance. He set out to try and accomplish the
task of finding an absolute truth in which he would base his beliefs. Placing upon himself a task to
find an axiom or absolute truth to base all thought, he ventured as a youth in travel to collect a
variety in experiences to derive some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He basically states in his meditations that if there is a God, and he is perceived as good, why
would he deceive our thoughts? This brings up the evil deceiver argument. If we can only know
that our existence is real, who is to say that there is not an outside force that makes of the rest of
our reality that we supposedly live? If our dreams are just distorted pieces of our reality and our
reality is merely a show put on by the evil deceiver, we know for certain we cannot base our
beliefs on what we see and the tools unto which we use to perceive it; i.e. extension, hands, and
eyes.
Conclusion
Descartes makes it clear that we cannot be certain of anything. The method of doubt brings us to
understand this better by giving a set of guidelines to follow to systematically understand and get
closer to some kind of truth. By trying to find some truth to base all thoughts on, Descartes tried to
find an absolute truth by coming to the realization that nothing he believed was of any truth.
Although not finding much truth in his journeys, he found a systematic way to come closer to
finding truth. Descartes was presented with a problem of not knowing anything, and by creating the
method of doubt he came closer to finding the truth.

Lack of Female Characters in The Strange Case of Dr....
Even the most casual reader can note the fact that there are very few female characters present in
Robert Louis Stevenson s 19th century novel, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
Those that are found within the work hardly constitute as substantial ones none of the women have
more than a few lines of dialogue and appear within the tale for longer than a chapter or two. A
bevy of critics have pointed out the fact that such an egregious omission is hardly coincidental in
fact, more than a few have cited the fact that this piece of literature functions as a protest regarding
the degree of women s liberation that the New Womanpossessed near the turn of the 20th century in
Victorian England (Reed 2). When considered through this feminist lens, it becomes easily
discernible to the prudent reader that Stevenson portrayed no femalecharacters in a positive light
and simply used them to reinforce negative aspects of femininity, which he believed were rapidly
changing for the worse.
Some critics have advanced the notion that one of the reasons there is such a paucity of women
and of strong, beneficent women in particular within this story is due to what they represented in
typical Victorian England society. Women were generally viewed as a social force or a source of
authority which reinforces this fiction of coherent male identity (Doane and Hodges 63). This
quotation suggests the fact that women were generally the keepers of morality and virtue within

Ballistic Pendulum
While conducting the ballistic pendulum report you gain a bigger understanding of velocity and
momentum. Using the ballistic pendulum, and formulas learned in Physics, one can predict the
range of the ball when it is shot horizontally. There are several materials that are used to conduct
this experiment including: the ballistic pendulum, a balance, at least one sheet of paper, weights,
and a calculator. Firstly, before anything else is done, the massof the ball needs to be calculated.
Using the balance, and additional weights if necessary, find the mass of the ball. This will be in
grams, so you need to convert that to kilograms. The conversion between grams and kilograms is:
1000g=1kg. The mass of our ball was 69.9g, 0.0696kg. After this is calculated, the height of the
bob from the pointer to the table must be calculated and converted to meters. The conversion from
centimeters to meters is 100cm=1m. The height of our bob was 12.7cm, .127m. Now we calculate
the force of the bob by setting the ball in the bob, and spring back the gun to shoot it. Attempt this
at least seven times and record the tooth number on the rack when the pendulum stops. After this,
find the average... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once it is moved, we need to calculate the new height from the pointer to the floor. Our height was
88.5cm which we converted to .885m. Then we need to calculate how long it would take for the
ball to hit the floor with the formula, x=vot+12at2. Solve for t, and set the initial velocity to 0 which
should be t=2xg. Which then calculated is .4244s. After this step, we need to calculate the
range,s,to predict where the ball would on the floor after it is shot horizontally from the table. The
range,s,can be calculated with the formula, s=vt. Using our time and initial velocity, s=6.46(.4244).

Dehumanization Of Boarding Schools
Kill the Indian in him, and save the man. That was the motto of government established boarding
schools for Native Americans on the western frontier. These schools were a cruel and dehumanizing
attempt at assimilating native culture with that of the European white man. By enrolling Native
American children in these schools, they were susceptible to new diseases brought from Europe,
such as tuberculosis and the flu, which the natives had never encountered and resulted fatal. Little
Indian boys who prided themselves in their long hair were forced to cut it off and exchanged their
given names for white names. Since Indian children were forced to speak only English, some
schools went so far as to punish whomever spoke in their native language. These schools had good
intentions, they offered nursing, education, and more opportunities to grow in the new society than
the Indians would otherwise ever receive, yet that gift was not requested by the native peoples. By
killing off Native Americans, making them resign aspects of their culture, and forcing them to
switch to the European language, government boarding schools completely replaced the culture of
Indians by means of cruel and dehumanizing procedures. The first government boarding schoolfor
Indians was located in Carlisle, Pennsylvania and established in 1879. Founded by Richard Pratt, a
former frontier Indian fighter, the school was an attempt at assimilating their culture to that of the
white man s, rather than killing

Filial Piety In Confucianism In Ancient China
Filial Piety in Confucianism A famous Chinese saying asks, if one does not have piety towards
one s own parents, then how can one be loyal towards one s friends, country, or any other? In
ancient China Confucius taught filial piety as, the reverent respect of children toward their

President Roosevelt s Response To The Great Depression
Imagine all of a sudden being out of a job and becoming bankrupt, and your country going into a
depression. In 1929 until the late 1930 s the Great Depression took place and many countries
were affected by it, the Great Depression was an economic depression. The cause of the Great
depression was the crash of the Stock Market in 1929. The Great Depressionaffected the US in a
way that increased unemployment by 25% and increased the amount of homeless people. In this
essay I will be analyzing the responses of President Franklin Roosevelt s administration to the
problems of the Great Depression. I will also be talking about how effective these responses
were, and how they changed the role of the federal government. I believe that the responses to the
Great Depression were very effective in bringing the country out of the Great Depression. The
reason I believe that President Roosevelt s response to the Great Depression was very effective
was because of economic measures that he took. These measures were known as The New Deal,
which were designed to help bring our country out of the depression we were facing. Some of the
things that were enacted in the New Deal, were the Civilian Conservation Corps, the Social
Security Act, the Civil Works Administration, the enacting of the Emergency Banking Act and the
rejuvenation of the Farm Credit Act. All of these corporations and acts were made to help create

The Problem Of Providing Coverage Using A Group Of Mobile...
The problem of providing coverage using a group of mobile agents is investigated, where it is
desired to minimize the overall coverage metric (service cost) while achieving maximum
coverage with minimum actuator energy required by each agent. In addition, a distributed multi
agent area coverage control (MAACC) law is then provided which guarantees the convergence
of agents to the optimal configuration with respect to the cost (coverage metric) function. A
common assumption in all of the coverage control results is that the distribution of sensory
information in the environment is known apriori by all agents. The proposed cooperative area
coverage control framework is based on two interdependent tasks: (i) online learning of the
coverage area and storing of the data in the form of a probability map ; and (ii) utilization of the
probability map (which is used as a search map) and other data collected to compute online a
positional error trajectory (e(t)) for the agents to follow at specified sampling time steps. The group
of agents is considered as being a group of autonomous agents which exchange data but ultimately
make their own decisions based on the received data collected during an area coverage mission. In
addition to the probability map, each agent in a multi agent system transmits its position
information to its neighbours and receives the same information from them. The agents possess the
probability maps (made possible via time varying density function) of targets

My First Family Reunion
When anyone thinks of a perfect family photo, they imagine a family with fancy clothing, a bright
sunny day, green grass and faces that have been enhanced. When my family takes photos they are
not quite that picture perfect family that s advertise but a family that goes deeper than perfection. I
come from a fairly large familywith five sisters, one brother and that includes my parents four
grandchildren and one son in law. My sisters are in the middle row off to the left side, my
brothers hand is wrapped around my mother. My little sister is the one with the long black braids. I
am on the right side holding my son of five months and my husband Rudy right next to me. In the
front row is my dad with his three grandchildren.
This photo holds a special place in my heart because it was our very first family reunion.
Looking back on this day brings a tear to my eye because time is a big factor and I can tell time
has gone by since that day. I stare at this photo and can t help but feel blessed. We are all alive
and in good health. Knowing that this was the last photo we took as a family makes it so much
more meaningful to me. That day was filled with excitement and laughter. I remember this day
like it was yesterday. The date was August 8th 2015 and this photo was taken at my grandparent s

literature on motivationreveals four major theory areas:
1.Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs;
2.Herzberg s Motivation/Hygiene (two factor) Theory;
3.McGregor s X Y Theories; and
4.McClelland s Need for Assessment Theory.
Maslow states that people are motivated by unmet needs which are in a hierarchical order that
prevents people from being motivated by a need area unless all lower level needs have been met.

Hitler s Effect On The German People And Nazi Rule
Nazi Germany Essay INTRODUCTION discuss the question and what you are going to talk about
in your essay
From 1933 1938 life in Germany was worse for people because of the way that Hitler abused the
power he had been given. Not only did he abuse the power but the people of Germany themselves.
At the same time, there were also some positives in the way that Hitler ran things. He completely
abolished unemployment rates, and gave the German people a sense of pride again. The key
aspects of Adolf Hitler s rule on Germany when he came into power were the separation of certain
people such as communists, Jews and disable or handicapped people from the pure Germans.
Hitler s rule had several effects in the German people and their country. Hitler was very aware of
things and therefore he knew what the people wanted and the things he needed to promise to them
in order to be selected for the position of chancellor. This caused both positive and negative effects
on the German people and Hitler s Nazi rule. The Weimar Republicknow as the makeshift
democracy was set up as an emergency solution to assist with the diminishing of the post war
effects on the Germany society and population. The Government was unstable due to it having to
face the harshest social, economic and political issues of Germany. The reason why the Weimar
Republic was out ruled was because they gave too much power to the states and the army.

Albert Bandura vs Raymond Cattell
Cattell was born in a small town in England. After seeing the deaths, and suffering of the people
and soldiers in World War I, Cattell began to have a huge curiosity in trying to fix the problems
people have in their lives by using science. Cattell was very big on personality, his definition of
Personality is that which permits a prediction of what a person will do in a given situation
(Cattell). Cattells definition of personality is very different from other theorist. Freud is a great
example; Freud s theory was that personality had three different types the id, the ego, and the super

Theses models provide examples of behavior, for the children to observe and imitate. Children
tend to pay attention to most of the models. At a later time in the child s life they may imitate
the behavior that they are surrounded by. This can be related to nurture. Nurture means the
things that us, as humans see in our environment not something we are born with that comes
natural to us. Nature on the other hand is something that we inherit from our genetics. I agree
with the study Bandura conducted I feel as if we do have things that we are just born with, but I
feel like the things that tend to happen around us are really what influence us and make us the
way we are. I for one know that there are many things that I learned just from being observation
and watching adults and people that are older then me like my brother, I watched him do just
about everything and everything he did I wanted to copy and that s why I feel that we as
humans tend to be the people we are by the way we observe things. The movie Kumare is about

Kumare is the person that Vikram plays to try and show his followers what they need to do.

Pascal s Wager Argument Analysis
According to Pascal, one cannot come to the knowledge of God s existence through reason alone,
so he suggests that the wise thing to do is to live your life as if God does exist. The reasoning
behind this is that, a life like that has everything to gain and nothing to lose. He believes that, if we
live as though godexist, and God does indeed exists, we will have infinite happiness(heaven).
Even if the God doesn t exist at the end, we have not lost anything. Pascal then states, if we live
as though God doesn t exist and God really does exist, we will be in infinite torment (hell and
punishments). If we weigh the two options, it is quite clear that the obvious choice would be to
live as if the God exists. He essentially concludes that the potential benefits of believing in God
outweigh the potential of not believing in God. There are many objections to this argument and
the one of the famous one is, we cannot force ourselves to believe in God. This argument denies
the Pascal s Wager, because believing in God isn t something we chose, and a person cannot make
himself/herself to believe in God if he/she doesn t. This objection... Show more content on

I do understand the argument that was made by Pascal and agree to some certain extent, but his
initial suggestion is to live as if we believe in God . We as humans cannot simply decide to
believe in something through an act of will. Instead, in order for one to believe that something
is true, one needs an evidence for its truth. Pascal only asks us to believe in God with no
evidence that such belief would be true. Therefore he asks us to believe without a reason, which
shows that the argument he makes is quite weak. For example: If a person offers another person 2
million dollars for believing that the sky is red. Can that person sincerely belief in such a thing by
simply just wishing to? Clearly

Women s Rights Movement Analysis
With astonishing inventions such as the cotton gin, the telephone, and the airplane, the industrial
revolution provided major improvements throughout Europe in the 1800s and early 1900s. As
factories spread like wildfire and working hours grew like weeds, new concerning conditions arose.
Child laborers, lack of minimum wage, and indescribable working conditions motivated the
proletariat to speak out for their rights. Events such as the Franchise Act and Chartist Movement
eventually created workers rights in Europe. In accordance with the mass production of steam
engines, railroads, and necessary laws, the Women s Rights Movement emerged from Britain in the
1970 s. Women such as Emmeline Pankhurst pushed for equality with violent protests that... Show

As the Crimean War broke out in the 1850 s amongst Russia, the Ottoman Empire, Britain, and
France, Russia s desire for more territory was crushed by the industrialized western nations. With
Britain s access to coal and the west s constant competition, inventions such as the minie ball,
machine guns, and hand grenades shocked the Russians into mass industrialization and Russian
nationalism. Even though countries like Britain and France had been industrializing and creating
new technology for decades now, their inventions proved to be a new frontier for the Russians.
Furthermore, the Crimean War dealt with ancient warfare, such as horses, and modern warfare,
such as newly industrialized guns. Likewise, innovative warfare presented itself again in The
Great War from 1914 to 1919. German U boats, trench warfare, and poison gas were some of the
many advancements that led to unrestricted warfare and universal issues. Contrary to heavy
armored horseback riders seen just years ago in the Crimean War, World War Ishowed historically

industrialization occurred rather gradual throughout western Europe, Russia quickly established
themselves as an industrialized nation just years before The War. With the help of two industrial

Outsourcing American Jobs Hurt U.s. Economy
Outsourcing American Jobs Hurt U.S. Economy Globalization is the integration of markets through
the cooperation of internalization, federal, and state governments with corporate companies to
provide low cost products. Subsequently, outsourcing is an essential part of this globalization.
However, what exactly is outsourcing? In its broadest sense, outsourcing is simply contracting out
functions that had been done in house a longtime U.S. practice ( Globalization: Threat or
Opportunity ). When a U.S. manufacture product, and buys material from an intermediate supplier
from out of the country rather than producing them in house, that is what is called outsourcing.
Also, when U.S. corporationhires outside contractor out of the country to do U.S. call center
services for less labor cost that is outsourcing. When a company deals out its operational task, such
as payroll, accounting, and software operations that is outsourcing. To get the clear understanding
of outsourcing, I have interviewed IKEA s U.S. Deputy Retail Country Manager Rob Olson about
outsourcing Swedish goods. Olson stated that IKEA s outsourcing utilizes the unique talents of
different countries and their labor markets to increase trade, which helps better allocate resources in
their own countries while getting goods cheaper from others. Today, there are massive numbers of
people who think what started as a globalized extension by sending some work outside, in fact, is

The Potential Of Fiji s Export Industry
INTRODUCTION
Fiji is categorized as one of the five Pacific Island countries (PICs) with the others being Papua New
Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu. After attaining her independence, Fiji
concentrated on her agricultural sector, specifically, sugar cane production and exportation. At the
same time, the successive governments adopted an import substitution policy but later on, after the
IMF intervention, she pursued an export led economic growth policy (Gani Prasad, 2007). She
started diversifying her export basket to not only include agricultural products such as sugar cane
but other products such as gold. Gradually, the service industry overtook the traditional export
industry, to become the highest export earner for Fiji (Narayan, 2000). This industry was consisted
mainly of tourist arrivals.
In this report, Fiji s export industry is covered comprehensively and within the limited resources
available at the time of writing. The core goal of the report is determining the potential of Fiji s
Export industry. In particular, the agricultural and services industry is reviewed. Linear
programming model of total return from aggregate exports is used. This is done with the core aim
of finding out what is limiting the growth of Fiji s export industry and the best way to lessen the
drastic changes in the export returns from year to year.
The aim of this report is to explore the returns and supply side constraints from a range of typical

What ways do you think Bobby shows of him coming of age? I will give you some. Some ways
that I think Bobby comes of age is that he shows his love for feather, he makes smart decisions,
he express his feelings. This essay is about the question of does Bobby come of age? What do you
think?
My symbol is the ballon. Here is how the ballon represents coming of age, it represents coming of
age because when Nia gave this ballon to bobby it meant something very important. The ballon
that Nia gave Bobby was her giving bobby her love and innocence. This was the way that Nia
was going to tell Booby that she was pregnant with his kid. Officially, when Nia handed Bobby
this ballon she was symbolizing that she and Bobby have became a whole now. This, also means
that the ballon has another meaning too. The other meaning is that when she had handed this
ballon to Bobby it could have meant that the baby has died or somebody has died and she wants
to let Bobby know. This is the unique way that the ballon is a symbol and it represents coming of

Social Situation In A Rose For Emily
Imagine you are an only child who lives with just your father. Now also imagine that your father
cuts you off from the world and the people in it, and the only human contact and relationships
you grow up with are with that of your father and a house slave. Living this way until your early
adulthood when your father dies it would be a miracle that you developed any social skills at all.
For Emily in A Rose for Emilyby William Faulknerthis is her life. The interactions that Emily has
with other people throughout the story can only be described as odd, but she doesn t know any
better. These uncomfortable encounters with other people are because Emily is socially awkward.
Emily s speech shows that she is socially awkward. An example of this... Show more content on

An example of this from the text comes when Faulkner writes, After he father s death she went
out very little; after her sweetheart went away, people hardly saw her at all (264). Emily keeping
to herself and away from anyone after these two events shows that she doesn t know how to
interact with other people. The fact that her sweetheart suddenly deserted her also raises some
concerns in regards to her social skills. Another example from the text that Emily was socially
awkward occurs when Faulkner writes, He [the Negro] talked to no one, probably not even to
her, for his voice had grown harsh and rusty as if from disuse (268). This shows that Emily either
doesn t care to or doesn t know how to communicate with other people. Considering her slave was
one of the few people she ever interacted with, it is bizarre that she rarely communicated with
him. A final example that shows Emily is socially awkward happens when Faulkner writes, The
man [Homer Barron] himself lay in the bed (264). Emily killing Homer as a way to keep him
again shows that Emily doesn t know how to interact with other human beings. She even goes as
far as to leave his rotting corpse in the bed and sleep next to it, which only adds to Emily s social
awkwardness.
In A Rose for Emily, Emily struggles with her social skills countless times throughout the story.
Emily s speech, and actions clearly exemplify her social awkwardness, as well as the other
character s words about Emily. However, it s not her fault. Emily s father destined her to a life of
limited human interaction and a life cut off from the world outside her large estate. Perhaps Emily
s father was just trying to protect his daughter, or that only the best suitor would do for her. The
one thing that is certain, though, is Emily s obvious lack of social

success. Growing up in the streets of Newark was not easy for any child, pre teen, teen, and

determination, dedication and discipline would help push him. Davis, as a child, has seen what

thus, this motivated him to become well educated. However, acquiring adult responsibilities, such

Superego In A Tale Of Two Cities
In A Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens, Sydney Carton and Charles Darnay look identical;
however, they develop differently throughout the novel. Throughout the entire novel, Dickens
creates Darnay as a representation of the superego, which is why Lucie chose him. To contrast,
Dickens establishes Carton as a representation of the ego. However, as the novel progresses,
Dickens makes Carton s use of ego transition from subconscious to conscious, as a result of his
relationship with Lucie and his deeper commitment to societal values. The latter was especially
shown through his sacrifice to the Guillotine, knowing it was the right thing to do. In psychological

The first occurrence of such was when she fainted in the courtroom: Yet, this Mr. Carton took in

that young lady. Help the gentleman to take her out. Don t you see she will fall! Carton would
not have cared if another woman had fallen, but his attraction to Lucie represents his growing
morality. Sydney Carton must discover belief before he can proceed from self analysis to

societal values and ethics. Lucie embodies the superego fully, as shown through how she helped
her father recover. In addition, Lucie had her 3 suitors because she represented the good of
society. Therefore, she acts as Carton s superego. Additionally, Carton s aforementioned
condemnation of morality shows how he transitioned from having no morality to embracing it,
after falling in love with Lucie. Lastly, when Carton says, that he would die to keep a life you

Frankenstein And Individualism
Romanticism is the active search for expression and understanding, whether scientifically or
creatively and the composers of texts are significant in providing insight and understanding of the
various perceptions of these individuals. There are countless concepts and ideologies that contribute
to the way of thinking that is Romanticism. However, two themes consistent in and central to texts
that express Romantic concerns is that of the transcendent world; a world most commonly
manifested in the realm of the imagination and within the expression and search for the divinity that

This law defying creation, being the first and only of its kind, is an individual. Schlegel s

individual is a being who is different from the rest, and who defies the laws of an average being
in some way. Because the Creature is cast out by society, he is forced to live in the forest, to

Essay On Canadian Unity
Canada Leads the World to Unity The world as humans know it is seldom at peace, and numerous
parties worldwide attempt to settle these conflicts in attempts to achieve global unity. In the past,
there have been multiple outbreaks of war, some examples being the Korean War, the Vietnam War,
and the Afghanistan War. Canada plays a crucial role in aiding war struck nations, in efforts to
mediate conflicts and terminate war, ultimately achieving peace and concord. Significant Canadian
efforts can be seen played throughout the prolonging Vietnam War, lasting of the length of
approximately twenty years. One example of this is seen when Canada gave aid to the army of
South Vietnam in order to further secure the strength of their militia. Through... Show more content

During one of the many encounters between the Capitalists and the Communists, Canadians were
successful in pushing back Chinese and North Korean troops further north of the Han River(put a
comma after Han river to say which country). Canadian troops were placed under intense fire, but in
the end, were capable of conquering Hill 619, where the Chinese were stationed. In result of this
conflict, Canadians obtained crucial information, helping South Korea develop tactics to win the
war, and achieve peace. Upon the seas, Canada dispatched multiple navy ships overseas, in order
to help with the everlasting war. Canadian ships were capable of sabotaging eight North Korean
trains. This cut off the supply of ammunition, food, and other supplies for the army, weakening
their militia, allowing easier defeat of the Communists. In terms of aerial combats, Canada as
well deployed multiple flights of aircraft into Korea, aiding both aerial combat, along with the
transportation of supplies to the South Korean military. Aerial contributions resulted in a massive
success, with no loss of any RCAF aircraft throughout the entire war. This was as well considered
by Korea as an essential role, as Canada supplied cargo and soldiers to keep the war going,
successfully aiding the push back of the Communists. Thus, it is evident

wrote that once the men got in sight of Apalachen, [...] The men were not there at the time, but
soon, while we were walking about, they came and began to fight, shooting arrows at us. The
Apalachee warriors dominated Narvaez s men. Only four men from Narvaez s expedition
survived. Later, well known Spanish explorer, Hernando de Soto actually found the remnants of
Narvaez s camp. His expedition was also under continuous attack by the Apalachee. Both de Soto
and Narvaez s expeditions spread many unfamiliar European diseases to the Apalachee, which
actually killed some of them.
In 1656, Mission San Luis was established in modern day Tallahassee, after the Apalachee

Napoleon Bonaparte The Ruthless Conqueror
Napoleon Bonaparte: The Ruthless Conqueror
Napoleon Bonaparte was one of the most successful and controversial military leaders of all time.
Leading France from the years 1799 to 1815, he would establish the French empire, a superpower
that was very similar to that of the Romans. In only sixteen years, Bonaparte came close to
conquering all of Europe, but paid a steep price for his triumph. During his reign, Napoleon
Bonaparte An exhibit for the Metropolitan Museum of Art should portray Napoleon Bonaparte as a
ruthless conqueror, not an enlightened despot, as he enforced legalist like policies, brought on the
Napoleonic wars, and was driven solely by his desire for power. These three factors revealed some

These wars, while trying to establish the French Empire, would significantly weaken France.
During his reign, Bonaparte s main goal was to conquer all of Europe. In order to do so, he
recognized that he needed to defeat France s main threat, Great Britain. In order to weaken them,
Bonaparte created the Continental system. The Continental system was a set of blockades that
was designed to cut the British off from trade with the rest of Europe... (but,) by 1812, it was
clear that the Continental system was not working. (Source E) Underestimating the power of
Great Britain s superior navy, Bonaparte did not realize that the British would able to make their
own blockades around France. Napoleon Bonaparte would blame Russia for his failure, and invade
the vast country. This would be the biggest failure of his career. In an attempt to defeat his new
enemy, Bonaparte would march 600,000 thousand troops into Russia. Even as the weather
conditions worsened, Bonaparte decided to always push further into Russia, trying to conquer
Moscow before winter, (Source E) which he knew would cost him more lives. Eventually losing
about 500,000 of these men, he return to France with the remains of an army. This means that
Bonaparte did not consider what the cost of these wars could be. This is significant, as this is a
decision that no enlightened monarch would make. Instead of actually thinking about the

Corporate Law Firms And Small Private Law Companies
1.A private law firm is a law firm that generates its income mainly from the attorney (and
paralegal) fees paid by clients (Statsky 35). This type of law firm includes the largest percentage
of working paralegals at 70%. A private law firm typically works in general practice, which
means that they might have multiple practice areas. Within the division of private law firms,
there are two other subdivisions: larger private law firms and smaller private law firms.
Paralegals in larger private law firms typically have better benefits and are paid more. They also
usually specialize in one area of law, and there is a likely a career ladder in that firm. On the
other hand, the paralegals in smaller private law firms often have more variety in their work, but
they also may have a handful of clerical tasks to complete. While there is not much of a career
ladder, these paralegals tend to have more contact with clients. Corporations can have in house
law departments in which the only client is the corporation itself. These in house law
departments are usually headed by the general counsel, who acts as the chief attorney. On
average, there are about seventeen attorneys and five paralegals per corporate law department.
The paralegals typically have high pay and very good benefits. They do not have many clerical
tasks to complete, and a career ladder for paralegals exists. They tend to have a narrowly defined
role in corporate law departments. In the government, there are three

The Paris Peace Conference Of 1919 Owen McManus Mrs. Shandera, Mrs. Swartz English 11 Pd.8, AP History Pd.1 10 February 2017 Creating More Problems The Paris Peace Conference of 1919 opened on the 18th of January, with delegations from all over the world attending to lay claim to their desires, or gain reparations for their sacrifices throughout the greatest war the world had ever been subject to. The big four countries at the negotiating table were the British under Lloyd George, the French led by Georges Clemenceau, The Italians and their prime minister Vittorio Emanuele Orlando, and The United States of America under President Woodrow Wilson. Each group had their own ideas for a post war world order, and their own tactics for reaching it. The actions of these victorious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This leads to the British and French skirting around Wilson s goals, meeting secretly to make decisions about the post war world, and to further their own, often imperialistic, prerogatives. The Treaty of Versaillesagreed upon in 1919 set in motion events that would be direct causes of World War II. According to Robert Cowley, the treaty stripped Germany of many territories, including Eupen Malmeacutedy, given to Belgium, Alsace Lorraine to France, large amounts of eastern lands to Poland, the Memel region to Lithuania, and most of the Schelswig area of the Danish peninsula to Denmark. Germany lost all of her overseas colonies as well. It also forced Germany to limit their army to 100,000 men, and forbade them certain types of weapons common to modern armies. The worst part of all was that Germany was made to assume all the guilt for the war, and forced them to pay an amount of war reparations unspecified at first, then set around 33 billion gold marks(Cowley). World War One: Treaties says that the peace terms imposed upon the defeated countries, Germany, Austria, Hungary, and Bulgaria, seemed to them to be unfair and unjust punishments. ... • 3. Innovation No More It seems we have lost the ability to innovate. We do not think the way we used to; we do not invent new concepts or ideas, rather we just adapt ideas of the past. Our thinking now a day is very limited to what we have already created. Google s definition of innovating, make changes in something established, esp. by introducing new methods, ideas, or products, suggests that innovation is now just development of an old idea. In this definition there seems to be no mention of inventing but rather only the alteration of a product in a way never done before. It s not that the alteration of a product is bad thing but it does create a very limited thinking world; a world that relies on the blueprints of the past to create a future. So have we really lost our ability to innovate? Not really, it s just that innovation has become merely focused on technology. It seems like technology will be the future. That future will involve people innovation of past ideas and not trying anything new due to the fear of failing. That innovation will mostly focus on technology which can help to make money. • 4. Feminism And Writing Through The Eyes Of Virginia Woolf Feminism and Writing Through the Eyes of Virginia Woolf Virginia Woolf is commonly known as a riveting feminist author who includes aspects of feminism in most of her novels. In this particular novel she analyzes the topic of feminism, the major theme in A Room of One s Own, with the accompanying discussion of writing. She accentuates these themes with techniques of imagery, appeals to the emotions of the readers, and an aphoristic tone that elucidates her point of view on women and writing. Neither weak nor lacking, Woolf is compassionate about feminism and writing. In the beginning of the novel, we notice how Woolf is compassionate about feminism and writing: a woman must have a room of one s own and money if she is to write fiction (6). She expresses that, for a woman to write effectively, she requires money and her own room. But, what is, exactly, one s own room? A room of one s self is personal... Woolf s exaggeration of a woman going crazy or losing herself, drives the reader s emotions to imagine just how women were discouraged of their talents. Even imagery is found in this topic: lonely cottage outside the village, mocked at, and thwarted and hindered. As earlier explained by Woolf, a woman was not able to express her talents before. Plagiarism is defined as to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one s own by Merriam Webster dictionary. While plagiarism may be denoted as stealing one s work without credit, a more vast and broad definition usually applies to college level work. Every college and universityhas their own handbook and code of conduct on what exactly plagiarismis defined as, and what are the consequences for breaking these rules. Collin College s Scholastic Dishonesty , Boston University s Academic Conduct Code , and Yale College s What is Plagiarism? all have different perspectives as to what plagiarism is and how it is defined. Collin College s Scholastic Dishonesty is set up in six sections, four having bolded first words, showing what each paragraph is about. The wording in the sections are very formal; making it seem as though to steal someone s work to be childish or immature. The tone, set by the wording and overall flow of the sentences, is very serious; it makes it seem as though committing one of these crimes is as bad and just as serious as committing murder. • 9. Comparing The Hitchhiker s Guide To The Galaxy By Douglas... One of the most fundamental philosophical problems to be solved is the question: what is the meaning of life? According to Albert Camus, a French existentialist writer and philosopher, a one s urge to find the ultimate answer for the question is rather absurd. He believed that people search for the meaning of anything is vain because a source of meaning as such is non existent. In addition to that, Camus literary works are often associated to the idea of absurdismand that is the thing he and Douglas Adams have in common. Therefore, the main focus of my essay is absurdity, as it is the main theme in the work of Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy. But why has Adams chosen it to be one of The Hitchhiker s leading topics? Of course, one can argue that there cannot be a proper sci fi novel without a certain level of absurdity included. To begin understanding Rene Descartes method of doubt, you need to suspend all prejudice and prior judgments and start with a clean slate for the purpose of discovering some ultimate truth on which to base all thought. (Kolak, Pg.225). Discouraged with much skepticism from his own beliefs, Descartes was embarrassed of his own ignorance. He set out to try and accomplish the task of finding an absolute truth in which he would base his beliefs. Placing upon himself a task to find an axiom or absolute truth to base all thought, he ventured as a youth in travel to collect a variety in experiences to derive some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He basically states in his meditations that if there is a God, and he is perceived as good, why would he deceive our thoughts? This brings up the evil deceiver argument. If we can only know that our existence is real, who is to say that there is not an outside force that makes of the rest of our reality that we supposedly live? If our dreams are just distorted pieces of our reality and our reality is merely a show put on by the evil deceiver, we know for certain we cannot base our beliefs on what we see and the tools unto which we use to perceive it; i.e. extension, hands, and eyes. Conclusion Descartes makes it clear that we cannot be certain of anything. The method of doubt brings us to understand this better by giving a set of guidelines to follow to systematically understand and get closer to some kind of truth. By trying to find some truth to base all thoughts on, Descartes tried to find an absolute truth by coming to the realization that nothing he believed was of any truth. Although not finding much truth in his journeys, he found a systematic way to come closer to finding truth. Descartes was presented with a problem of not knowing anything, and by creating the method of doubt he came closer to finding the truth. Works Cited Page Durant, Will Ariel. (1961). • 12. Lack of Female Characters in The Strange Case of Dr.... Even the most casual reader can note the fact that there are very few female characters present in Robert Louis Stevenson s 19th century novel, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Those that are found within the work hardly constitute as substantial ones none of the women have more than a few lines of dialogue and appear within the tale for longer than a chapter or two. A bevy of critics have pointed out the fact that such an egregious omission is hardly coincidental in fact, more than a few have cited the fact that this piece of literature functions as a protest regarding the degree of women s liberation that the New Womanpossessed near the turn of the 20th century in Victorian England (Reed 2). When considered through this feminist lens, it becomes easily discernible to the prudent reader that Stevenson portrayed no femalecharacters in a positive light and simply used them to reinforce negative aspects of femininity, which he believed were rapidly changing for the worse. Some critics have advanced the notion that one of the reasons there is such a paucity of women and of strong, beneficent women in particular within this story is due to what they represented in typical Victorian England society. Women were generally viewed as a social force or a source of authority which reinforces this fiction of coherent male identity (Doane and Hodges 63). Using the ballistic pendulum, and formulas learned in Physics, one can predict the range of the ball when it is shot horizontally. There are several materials that are used to conduct this experiment including: the ballistic pendulum, a balance, at least one sheet of paper, weights, and a calculator. Firstly, before anything else is done, the massof the ball needs to be calculated. Using the balance, and additional weights if necessary, find the mass of the ball. This will be in grams, so you need to convert that to kilograms. The conversion between grams and kilograms is: 1000g=1kg. The mass of our ball was 69.9g, 0.0696kg. After this is calculated, the height of the bob from the pointer to the table must be calculated and converted to meters. The conversion from centimeters to meters is 100cm=1m. The height of our bob was 12.7cm, .127m. Now we calculate the force of the bob by setting the ball in the bob, and spring back the gun to shoot it. • 14. Dehumanization Of Boarding Schools Kill the Indian in him, and save the man. That was the motto of government established boarding schools for Native Americans on the western frontier. These schools were a cruel and dehumanizing attempt at assimilating native culture with that of the European white man. By enrolling Native American children in these schools, they were susceptible to new diseases brought from Europe, such as tuberculosis and the flu, which the natives had never encountered and resulted fatal. Little Indian boys who prided themselves in their long hair were forced to cut it off and exchanged their given names for white names. Since Indian children were forced to speak only English, some schools went so far as to punish whomever spoke in their native language. These schools had good intentions, they offered nursing, education, and more opportunities to grow in the new society than the Indians would otherwise ever receive, yet that gift was not requested by the native peoples. By killing off Native Americans, making them resign aspects of their culture, and forcing them to switch to the European language, government boarding schools completely replaced the culture of Indians by means of cruel and dehumanizing procedures. The first government boarding schoolfor Indians was located in Carlisle, Pennsylvania and established in 1879. The problem of providing coverage using a group of mobile agents is investigated, where it is desired to minimize the overall coverage metric (service cost) while achieving maximum coverage with minimum actuator energy required by each agent. In addition, a distributed multi agent area coverage control (MAACC) law is then provided which guarantees the convergence of agents to the optimal configuration with respect to the cost (coverage metric) function. A common assumption in all of the coverage control results is that the distribution of sensory information in the environment is known apriori by all agents. The proposed cooperative area coverage control framework is based on two interdependent tasks: (i) online learning of the coverage area and storing of the data in the form of a probability map ; and (ii) utilization of the probability map (which is used as a search map) and other data collected to compute online a positional error trajectory (e(t)) for the agents to follow at specified sampling time steps. The group of agents is considered as being a group of autonomous agents which exchange data but ultimately make their own decisions based on the received data collected during an area coverage mission. Not only did he abuse the power but the people of Germany themselves. At the same time, there were also some positives in the way that Hitler ran things. He completely abolished unemployment rates, and gave the German people a sense of pride again. • 26. Pascal s Wager Argument Analysis According to Pascal, one cannot come to the knowledge of God s existence through reason alone, so he suggests that the wise thing to do is to live your life as if God does exist. The reasoning behind this is that, a life like that has everything to gain and nothing to lose. He believes that, if we live as though godexist, and God does indeed exists, we will have infinite happiness(heaven). Even if the God doesn t exist at the end, we have not lost anything. Pascal then states, if we live as though God doesn t exist and God really does exist, we will be in infinite torment (hell and punishments). If we weigh the two options, it is quite clear that the obvious choice would be to live as if the God exists. He essentially concludes that the potential benefits of believing in God outweigh the potential of not believing in God. There are many objections to this argument and the one of the famous one is, we cannot force ourselves to believe in God. This argument denies the Pascal s Wager, because believing in God isn t something we chose, and a person cannot make himself/herself to believe in God if he/she doesn t. This objection... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I do understand the argument that was made by Pascal and agree to some certain extent, but his initial suggestion is to live as if we believe in God . We as humans cannot simply decide to believe in something through an act of will. Instead, in order for one to believe that something is true, one needs an evidence for its truth. Pascal only asks us to believe in God with no evidence that such belief would be true. Therefore he asks us to believe without a reason, which shows that the argument he makes is quite weak. For example: If a person offers another person 2 million dollars for believing that the sky is red. Can that person sincerely belief in such a thing by simply just wishing to? Clearly ... In its broadest sense, outsourcing is simply contracting out functions that had been done in house a longtime U.S. practice ( Globalization: Threat or Opportunity ). When a U.S. manufacture product, and buys material from an intermediate supplier from out of the country rather than producing them in house, that is what is called outsourcing. The Potential Of Fiji s Export Industry INTRODUCTION Fiji is categorized as one of the five Pacific Island countries (PICs) with the others being Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu. After attaining her independence, Fiji concentrated on her agricultural sector, specifically, sugar cane production and exportation. At the same time, the successive governments adopted an import substitution policy but later on, after the IMF intervention, she pursued an export led economic growth policy (Gani Prasad, 2007). She started diversifying her export basket to not only include agricultural products such as sugar cane but other products such as gold. Gradually, the service industry overtook the traditional export industry, to become the highest export earner for Fiji (Narayan, 2000). This industry was consisted mainly of tourist arrivals. In this report, Fiji s export industry is covered comprehensively and within the limited resources available at the time of writing. The core goal of the report is determining the potential of Fiji s Export industry. In particular, the agricultural and services industry is reviewed. Linear programming model of total return from aggregate exports is used. This is done with the core aim of finding out what is limiting the growth of Fiji s export industry and the best way to lessen the drastic changes in the export returns from year to year. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of this from the text comes when Faulkner writes, After he father s death she went out very little; after her sweetheart went away, people hardly saw her at all (264). Emily keeping to herself and away from anyone after these two events shows that she doesn t know how to interact with other people. The fact that her sweetheart suddenly deserted her also raises some concerns in regards to her social skills. Another example from the text that Emily was socially awkward occurs when Faulkner writes, He [the Negro] talked to no one, probably not even to her, for his voice had grown harsh and rusty as if from disuse (268). This shows that Emily either doesn t care to or doesn t know how to communicate with other people. Considering her slave was one of the few people she ever interacted with, it is bizarre that she rarely communicated with him. A final example that shows Emily is socially awkward happens when Faulkner writes, The man [Homer Barron] himself lay in the bed (264). Emily killing Homer as a way to keep him again shows that Emily doesn t know how to interact with other human beings. She even goes as far as to leave his rotting corpse in the bed and sleep next to it, which only adds to Emily s social awkwardness. In A Rose for Emily, Emily struggles with her social skills countless times throughout the story.
