Symptoms Of Chikungunya Fever ( Chikf )
Chikungunya fever (CHIKF) is commonly found in urban areas of Southeast Asian and African
countries. This disease was first identified in Tanzania in the early 1950s. Frequently, outbreaks
of Chikungunya fever have only been described in South Asian and African countries, which are
located in tropical and subtropical zones close to the equator. However, this does not stop the
disease from traveling to other parts of the world. In 2007, there were 205 laboratory confirmed
cases in Italy, making this the first outbreak in a temperate zone. Most cases of the disease tend to
appear in densely populated areas, allowing efficient transmission of the pathogen. The first cases
of Chikungunya fever in the Americas and Caribbean Islands were reported in late 2013. The
causing agent of the Chikungunya fever is the Chikungunya virus (CHIKV). It is an enveloped
virus with a positive polar single stranded RNA that belongs to the genus Alphavirus. These types
of viruses are often transmitted to humans from mosquitoes infected with the viruses. Alphaviruses,
including Sindbis virus (SINV) and Semliki Forest virus (SFV), are major contributors to the
group of Arboviruses (arthropod borne viruses). Circulating mainly in a sylvatic, enzootic cycle,
CHIKV occasionally spills over into human populations starting in rural areas with small outbreaks.
Migration of infected individuals probably results in urban introduction. CHIKF is a zoonotic and
vector borne disease. Its major transmission

Ibsen, Strindberg and Feminism Essay examples
In the late 19th century Naturalism was emerging as the primary movement in literature of that
period. The movement was influenced heavily by the discoveries made in politics, sciences and
psychology of the time. Discoveries such as Darwin s evolutionary theories, Marx s Das Kapital
and even Freud s research on the psychology of the human were creating shock and upset and began
to revolutionised society s outlook on the world. The naturalist movement in literature also
coincided with the beginnings of women s emancipation throughout the western world.
Scandinavia, as well as experiencing The Modern Breakthrough, was also dealing with its own
political struggles for national identity. For Henrik Ibsenand August Strindbergthe early woman s...

In an unsigned notice in The Daily News of June 1889 a writer condemns Nora s actions,
Deserting her home, her husband, and above all her children, simply because she finds her
husband is angry with her...it may be confidently asserted that no women who ever breathed
would do any such thing (1889). Clement Scott, editor of Theatre, would not even describe her
action as human but a thing that one of the lower animals would not do (1889a, p. 114) and in an
article for The Daily Telegraph even calls Nora absolutely inhuman (1889b, p. 102). This shock
reaction was understandable in a culture that had defined a women s place in society, or
metaphorically, placed women in a box; the fact that Nora chose to step out of that box was an
issue of serious debate. If Nora should desert her place in society then so could others. However
W.E Simonds, having read H.F Lord s translation of A Dolls House, reprimanded any critic for
calling Nora selfish and failing to see Nora s womanliness and emancipated individuality (1890, p.
147). It is this emancipation of the individual that could be the solution to discovering a theme
beyond Ibsen s feminism. Even Ibsen himself disclaimed any conscious efforts on his part to write
A Doll s House as a way of rallying for the women s rights movement and claimed it to be
purposeful description of humanity (cited in Templeton 1997, p. 110). Templeton goes on to
explain that Ibsen

Oedipus Rex Research Paper
The downfall of Oedipus Rex
Imagine encountering a person whose decisions are driven solely by rage and reckless impulses,
some examples of this person s actions would be endangering others, emotional distress and self
harm.In Sophocles Oedipus Rex, Oedipus and others suffer because of his quick temper and rash
behavior. The first example of others suffering from Oedipus quick temper which causes him to
attack people he once trusted and praised, with false accustations.Occurs when Oedipus quick
temper causes him to make false accustations against the blind prophet Teiresias.
This situation occurred once Teiresias explains to Oedipus that he (Oedipus) is the one who
killed Laius who is the former king of Thebes.Oedipus becomes irritated by Teiresias s words,
which causes Oedipus s quick temper to take over and he then incriminates Teiresias of plotting
against him, he also states that Teiresias is trying to destroy him.Which then leads Oedipus into
saying What a wicked old man you are! You d try a stone s patience! (Sophocles1.18).We then see
Teiresias s response to having all of these flawed accusations put against him, he responds by
saying, Oedipus shouldn t fear him or Creon about plotting against him or Thebes and that if

Oak doors are also highly energy efficiency because they provide excellent insulation. External oak
doors help keep your interior temperature stable, which can help reduce energy bills. The benefits
are also true for internal oak doors, which are designed to help keep individual rooms properly
insulated. Insulation is particularly important in the UK to help cope with weather conditions.
The insulation provided by oak doors is not limited to temperature. Oak doors provide insulation
that also reduces noise, which is a major benefit. Noise can cause stress and create a tense
environment. Fortunately, oak doors keep all noise at a minimum, whether it s from outside or

Great Danes Case Study
Great Dane owners take different precautions from other breed owners when caring for their
animal. The caregiver of a Great Dane needs to be responsible and careful when it comes to
caring for this breed; specifically in the diet aspect. Great Danes are prone to stomach issues.
Bloating occurs if the steps of the feeding process are not followed exactly. In this case the
stomach may flip because of eatingtoo rapidly, drinking too much after eating, or exercising
immediately after eating. Bloating puts stress on the animal and is a very serious problem that
ultimately results in death. The caregiver needs to monitor and follow the proper steps when
feeding her to avoid this. Before the owner begins the process of feeding her, certain materials...

day. This needs to be split up into two different feeding times. The best time to feed her is once
in the morning and once in the afternoon. This gives her time to relax and digest the food. After
she eats, she can t drink water for another hour. During that hour, she should not engage in any

Swot Analysis Of Subway
Abstract One of my first jobs a young adult was as a store manager for a local Subway restaurant.
Subway is a franchise that has restaurants all over the United States and in several other countries.
They operate the organization under a stable culture. I will use my personal experience and the
five signs of organizational culture which include mission statement, stories and language,
physical layout, rules and policies, and rituals to explain for the organization conveys its
organizational culture. Mission Statement Subway s mission statement is Delight every customer,
so they want to tell their friends with great value through fresh, delicious, made to order
sandwiches, and an exceptional experience (Farfan, 2017). When reviewing the mission
statement we can see that the customer service and value is of great importance to the
organization. The mission statement reflects that the business is focused on attention to details
and creating an experience that will keep customers coming back and referring others to their
stores. The mission statement conveys to both the employees and the customers that they will
have a stable culture. It does so by so by placing emphasis on quality control and constance. A
stable culture is reflected here because Subway will use certain formulas, rules, and strict
policies to make sure the customer gets the same excellent service and product at all of its stores.
Rituals While working for Subway I had the opportunity to visit several locations. There are not a
lot of rituals within the organization. Rituals refer to repetitive activities within an organization
that have symbolic meaning (Carpenter, Bauer, Erdogan, 2012, P. 399). One ritual that is popular
in most subway restaurants is a sandwich building speed test. After an employee had been
employed for 90 days a manager would pick a sandwich off the menu and have the sandwich artist
make it as fast as possible. The employee would be scored based on the time it took for them to
assemble the sandwich, how closely they followed the build formula for that sandwich, proper
length of the sandwich, and neatness of the product upon completion. This ritual reflects that stable
culture in a way that this

Protestant Ethic And The Spirit Of Capitalism
In chapter three Weber presents the final drawback between the Protestant ethic and the spirit of
capitalism. As previously mentioned, Weber also introduced the idea of a calling to worldly
pursuits. As he describes in this chapter, Lutheranism has a divinely sanctioned place in the world,
but for the first time the question of how well one performed and their role became significant.
Conversely, Weber does not consider that belief in a calling is adequate to explain the spirit of
capitalism. With this in mind, a calling can adhere to traditionalism since it implies that an
individual should assume their position in society without further motiviation to become more.
Catholicism after all was the basis for the traditional worldview. As an

Moose Maddon s Death Essay
I believe that Moose Maddons death was an accident. In the story it says Moose
Maddon was a bully to Cecil but Cecil didn t usually retaliate. Cecil is a boy who wants to go to
university, on the night of his leaving Moose Martin dies. I believe that Moose Madden s death
was an accident because he was drunk and tried to log roll but fell off and died.
The reason I believe that Moose maddons death was an accident is because he was drunk the
night of his death and went on a log and fell. In the text it says I figured it was Moose and
Lefevre coming home drunk from camp three. Moose was intoxicated the night of his death
which makes him clumsy and wobbly. It would be like driving drunk it s just as likely it even
more likely he would fall of a log in the river as he would get into an accident. Also in the story it
says, One day in the fall I will go to the ravine and see how the headline was making it. It still
shocking to think that Maddon, who had been sure footed as a chipmunk, and our best log
rolling contest, had fallen to his death the way he had. Moose Lilly thought he would be able to
walk on the logs because he was one of the best at it. But since he was drunk he would be wobbly
and his balance would be off so he fell into the ravine. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

on him he would be safe so there would be no reason to kill Moose to make sure nothing past little

Gay Parenting And Adoption
Gay parenting and adoption LGBT couples have existed for a very long time, and they have
been raising children for years and years, but discrimination has led these people to hide from
society (which in its majority is heterosexual.) However, on recent years there has been a decrease
in discrimination and prejudice against lesbians and gay men, leading to more people Coming out
and accepting their sexual preferences; which has led more LGBTpeople to freely perform normal
activities as couples, e.g., encouraging themselves to adopt children, and do things that seem as
normal to heterosexual couples.
This raises a question, why is LGBT adoption such a controversial topic? To answer this question
we need to go deep into politics and religion, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By 2000, census data showed that number had risen to one in five for male couples and one in
three for female couples. Based on these estimates, at least 250,000 children nationwide are being
raised by same sex couples. Census analysts note that these numbers may be significantly
underestimated, because many gays and lesbians do not self report their sexual orientation to the
government. (Further, census data indicate that lesbian and gay households can be found in 99
percent of all U.S. counties.) However, the census reveals close to nothing without detailed
information of the [private] lives of the individuals. Which would be considered unconstitutional,
and is would never be done inside the US.
But what exactly happens when homosexual couples are allowed to be foster parents? We have yet
to know the answer to this question. Elsewhere , including New York, a same sex marriagelaw took

conclusion regarding how gay couples have an effect on their adopted children, if they have an

Silver Impregnated Wounds
Silver impregnated dressings have been used extensively over the past few decades in the
management of chronic wounds and burns. Before the 1800s, Silver was used for the treatments
of ailments such as seizures, leg ulcers, skin infections, partial burns, surgical wounds, perinanal
abscesses, disinfection of fluid and sexually transmitted diseases. By mid 1900s, the use of Silver
started to expand and was used in different forms such as dressings, eye drops, powder and so on.
Silver nitrates were also used as antibiotics to prevent eye infections after deliveries, MRSA,

The Foreign Miners in the American Gold Rush Essay
The Foreign Miners in the American Gold Rush
One Saturday night, a mob of masked men, who numbered forty to sixty, approached a small
house. Arriving at the house, they dragged two slumbering men from their bunks and hustled them
from the house, without even allowing them to put on their clothes, and started to kick and beat
them. One of the invaders drew his pistol and shot at one of the victims. The bullet pierced the
body of the man and inflicted a terrible wound. Both men who were attacked that night died. This
event occurred in Rico, a camp in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado on May 13, 1882. The two

Marshall at Sutter s Mill in 1848. The discovery of gold was one of the most remarkable events in
the history of the American West because it stimulated worldwide migration to the area. The Gold
Rush began as soon as the news about the discovery of gold spread throughout the country. The
rush exploded within just a few years and continued to attract numerous people for the following
decades. The rushes occurred in many places: In the 1850s, it came to Virginia City, Nevada,
and Cherry Creek Colorado. In the 1860s it came to Montana and Wyoming. And, in the 1870s,
it came to the Black Hill of South Dakota (Hine Faracher 197). Randall E. Rohe indicated that the
major gold rush in the American West attracted from 10,000 to 100,000 people per year (Dirlik
3). The census in 1848 shows 26,000 people lived in California, but in 1860, the total rose to
380,000 (Nugent 63).
It was the opportunity for employment that attracted workers from foreign countries, as well as
America, to the mines of the West. The mining industry was the largest source of jobs in the
world at that time. Many mines were in need of laborers; everyone could get a job if they wanted
to. The sense of adventure also attracted many people (Milner 206). The fortune seekers who had a
desire to be rich by digging gold clustered in mining camps in the west.
However, being a miner in the California gold Rush was a tremendously challenging experience.

Dog training is probably the most important topic to every dog owner. Even if it s not, it
probably should be. Who did this on the rug , who destroyed my brand new leather slipper , and
what happened to the cookies that were cooling on the counter are also important topics for dog
owners. These topics, however, are less important simply because they are so easily answered.
Every dog is trained to some degree whether you realize it or not. The reason your dog is trained
can best be explained by the work of the Russian scientist Ivan Pavlov. I know what you are
thinking. You are thinking, isn t he the goalie for the New York Rangers? Wrong again, gentle
reader. Pavlov was a scientist who worked in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and is probably
most famous for his experiment with a dog.
To distill his work to it s essence, Pavlov fed a dog whilst he rang a bell. He noted that over time if
he rang the bell, the dog would salivate, even if no food were present. It seemed that the cue (the
bell) led directly to

Essay on Power Structures of Men and Women in Sports
Power Structures of Men and Women in Sports
As an athlete or a spectator, it is easy to both feel and see the impact sports have on people of
both genders. Athletes are able to experience sports personally, while spectators usually experience
sports through different channels of mass media. Realizing the effects that the world of athletics
has on individuals and society as a whole is vital to the understanding of how sports can positively
and negatively effect athletes as well as spectators.
To deepen our understanding of the cultural values embedded in sports and to explore current values

If men do not maintain this expected image, and choose to participate in sports that have been
dominated mostly by women, their sexuality is questioned. Comments like, Wow, what a Fag, are
often directed toward male figure skaters when viewed by spectators. This is very unfair and
hurtful to the victims of this false perception.
Aside from males participating in figure skating, women boxers are generally viewed by others as
manly. This is one of the most offensive terms a person can call a female boxer. The word
degrades femininity, especially when referring to a woman who chooses to be active in a sport
that is non tradition to her gender and has nothing at all to do with her femininity. In the film
Girl Fight the main character, Diana, chooses to train to become a boxer. It is apparent that
Diana is not a lesbian because she has a boyfriend, so her sexuality is not the issue in this film.
However, because she is a female in a male dominated sport, Diana does not generate the support
of many people when she proposes her idea about boxing. Boxing is considered inappropriate for
her because she is a female. The trainer tells her that he cannot work with her, but Diana does not
allow this to stop her. The time, devotion, heart, and desire she gives are all key elements in her
efforts to becoming a successful boxer.
Both men and women undergo social costs when participating in a sport that is

Harriet Beecher Stowe Essay
Biographical Summary Uncle Toms Cabin, written by Harriet Elizabeth Beecher Stowe in
1852, made her the most widely known American woman writer of the 19th century. She was a
housewife with six children, who opposed slavery with a passion. With the advice of her sister
in law she decided to write this novel. Harriet or nicknamed Hattie Beecher was born on June 14,
1811 in Litchfield, Connecticut. She was the sixth out of eleven children and was born into a
family of powerful and demanding individuals. With her mom, Roxanna Foote Beecher dying
when she was only 4 years old, Harriet only had a father figure to look up to growing up. Her
father, Lyman Beecer, was a leading Congregationalist minister who preached anti slavery sermons.

This is what first influenced Harriet to begin writing. When Harriet had moved to Brunswick
Maine with her family, the United States Congress had just passed the Fugitive Slave Law.
Shortly after, she had planned to write a protest of slavery since her experiences in Cincinnati.
Stowe then began to work on Uncle Toms Cabin, which first appeared in serial form in a
Washington, D.C. antislavery newspaper called the National Era. The book was first published
March of 1852, in a two volume set. It became an immediate success and sold 300,000 copies in
its first year. Years later, Harriet began touring all over the world, and her novels Uncle Tom s
Cabin along with Dred: A Tale of Great Dismal Swamp were both very known in England.
Another crucial experience was when she met Abraham Lincoln in 1862. He thought of Harriet
s controversial novel as a catalyst for the opposition of the Civil War. Lincoln had told her that
she was the little lady who started our big war (Encyclopedia of World Biography 485). Harriet
Stowe s writing style is very narrative and informal. Her famous book, Uncle Tom s Cabin, is
extremely personal and puts a direct storyline to slavery, which caused it to be very contentious.
Those who supported slavery convicted Stowe s work and said that it was just an overwrought
story with an unrealistic model of what slavery was really like. Stowe became notorious all around
the world after

The Importance Of Inclusion In Special Education
The term inclusion is defined as being included within a group or structure. In education, this refers
to the inclusion of special needs students with non disabled students for the entire, or most of, the
school day. In most schools today, students with special needs are separated from the other students
for the majority of the day. The debate of how special needs students should be incorporated in
schools has been going on for years. There is an argument to both sides of this debate, however,
both have to consider segregation, inclusion, integration and ultimately respect. For many years
school systems have been attempting to perfect special education. They have been developing new
techniques and skills to better suit different disabilities that a student might have. The question at
hand now is if the segregation of students with disabilities from those without disabilities should be
the standard for all schools. Mary and Kenneth Smith, authors of I Believe in Inclusion but...,
conducted a study to describe teacher s perceptions of factors that contributed or hindered success in
inclusion based classrooms. The study suggests that students with special needs need more
attention than other students. Research has indicated that classroom teachers may be very skeptical
of inclusion and that they strongly expect that the practice will present inherent problems. (Smith,
Mary K., and Kenneth E. Smith 80 161). Another reason that Smith and Smith make is that with

Like his father, Benito became a burning socialist.
Mussolini had huge goals of running a political machine based on his own beliefs. Born in the
poverty stricken village of Romagna, Italy, he was wild, nomadic, and defiant as a young adult
lived the life of a bum. Showing fierce aggression at such a young age, he was expelled from two
schools for knife assaults on other students. His father a village blacksmith and his mother a
schoolmistress, he lived life in poverty that seemed inscapable. By moving from Italy to Austria he
devoted himself to the battle for human and economic freedom. Mussolini had become an
impassioned Socialist.

His expectations for the war, was the collapse of society that would bring him to power. His
socialist comrades were enraged by his article committing Socialist support to Italy s entry into the
World War. Just years earlier he had been protesting Italy s entry in war. Called up for military
service, he was wounded and returned in 1917.
In 1919 he founded the facist di combattimento, which in 1921 became the Italian Facist party.
With facist party backing and Mussolini s own tactics he rose to power between 1919 and 1922.
Mussolini entered parliament in 1921 as a right wing member. The Fascisti formed armed
squads to boss around Mussolini s former Socialist colleagues. The Italian government rarely
interfered. In return for the support of a group of industrialists, Mussolini gave his approval to
strikebreaking, and he abandoned revolutionary disturbance. When the liberal governments of
others had failed to stop the spread of anarchy, King Victor Emmanuel III invited Mussolini to
form a coalition government in 1922. With the support of the Liberals in parliament, he
introduced strict censorship and altered the methods of election so that in 1925 1926 he was able
to assume dictatorial powers and end all other political parties. By 1926 the facist leader had
transformed Italy into a single party, tolalitarian regime. He was also head of the all powerful
Fascist party and the armed Fascist militia.

New Belgium Brewing: Ethical and Environmental Responsibility
History
Belgium is home of the finest ales and have been known to brew for centuries. So when Jeff
Lebesch, an electrical engineer from Fort Collins, Colorado took a bicycle trip through Belgium
it made him realize there may be a market back home to sell Belgian style ale. Jeff returned home
with hopes to experiment and brew his own beer in his basement from the various ingredients he
received on his trip. When his friends approved of the ales he started marketing them to the local
town. He later opened New Belgium Brewing Company in 1991. His wife, Kim Jordan was the

J. D. Salinger Influences
20th Century American novelist and short story writer, J.D. Salinger, wrote many stories, most
of which have been heavily influenced by his time spent in World War II. Arguably Salinger s
most popular novel, The Catcher in the Rye, was carried into battle with him and has distinct
influences of Salinger s experiences within it. Salinger was discharged from the army in 1945
(French xiv). and because of his experiences in the war, books like The Catcher in the Rye and
many others have a much darker tone and plot than the stories written before his time in war.
Before the war, Salinger mostly wrote short stories that lacked fighting sequences and any type
of violence. After the war, Salinger s writing became harsher and more vicious. The first of
Salinger s works to feature a combat scene was a short story called The Magic Foxhole and it
described the battle of Normandy, something that Salinger experienced but didn t discuss in his
personal life (Slawenski). Salinger spent a considerable amount of time writing The Catcher in the
Rye. The novel started out as fragments of characters written into other short stories and novels, and
over time it developed into... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before he was a soldier, Salinger could only write short stories that never attracted fame. After
the war, Salinger wrote novels that became famous for their thought provoking topics and
controversial ideas (French 8). Salinger used this new voice to stir the feelings of readers. His
books made the readers think about war and violence in a different way. The author of J.D.
Salinger and War described this new way of thinking when he or she wrote We are still not willing
to face the consequences of war. They, our veterans, have no choice. (J.D. Salinger and War.). This
quote shows the involuntary effects that the soldiers endure after they serve. Though, challenging
to experience, the war efforts of J.D. Salinger greatly impacted his writing for the

Lao Teh Ching Summary
In advance of the group discussion regarding Tao Teh Ching written by Lao Tzu I already had a
profoundly fluid knowledge of the several paradoxes and the principles of Taoism that were
displayed in the book by Tzu. However I lacked the ability to comprehend the government based
aspects, or how they related to the major themes that were spread throughout the book. Also since
during the time this book was written it was a warring states period, why was there such a
substantial emphasis on having a peaceful state of mind. While I was partaking in our discussion
these points were made more clear to me and allowed everything that I already knew to be tied into
one thought. Since I was already aware of the paradoxes that were shown throughout the

The painting I chose was a painting of Chrysanthemums by Pablo Picasso. It is a very simple
and straightforward, yet captivating image. The way the petals on the flowers were painted are
very interesting, each of them were created with unique stroke of the brush. Picasso obviously
wanted viewers to focus only flowers as the foreground and background were left somewhat
rugged and undetailed. At first it may be hard to notice, however, it can be seen that the source of

My Personal Reflection Of Diversity

This paper is going to cover my personal reflection of what diversity means to me. I will discuss

have changed since then. I will also describe a situation in which diversity directly influenced
my life. This paper will also include reflections of the common read novel The Other Wes Moore:
One Name, Two Fates. I will detail how the main characters experienced diversity. I will give
examples of how diversity changed their lives and which person I personally related to the most.

I believed diversity was something we should want. As an adult I can better understand why many
felt the way they did. Through their own historical trauma, many in my community did not feel
diversity was a good thing because they were taught all white people equal oppressors. As I got
older, I realized the people there purposefully segregated themselves. Sixteen minutes away from
my home was a placed called Chalmette. This town had the larger white community that was upper
middle class to poverty. 12 minutes away was Little Vietnam, where the majority were of
Vietnamese immigrants and their children who all lived on the poverty line. Then there were six
neighborhoods, including Plum Orchard that the majority were African American. This sent the
message that people seem to prefer the company of those most like themselves. Plum Orchard had
five white households when we moved in. Two were elderly people, Maw maw Elsie and Mr.
Eddie, who had been there since the late forties. Maw maw Elsie passed away and Mr. Eddie
moved to be closer to family. Then there were three households with children, all single mothers,
and walking the poverty line. Over the course of a few years, they all moved away due to the
increase in gang activity. My family stayed until 2002 when our home was robbed.

Disadvantages Of Contract Employment Versus At-Will...
What are the comparative advantages and disadvantages of contract employment versus at will
employment for an employer and employee?
There are advantages and disadvantages for both the employee and the employer with contract
employment.
For the employer, it gives them a way to keep their best employees around, along as they can
provide terms that the employee finds advantageous. However, by the same token, a good
employee could be offered a more attractive contract by another employer when it comes contract
renewal time, having a contract doesn t mean you own that employee, but it gives each of the
parties involved a measure of comfort.
As an employer and an employee having a contract spells out the terms of employment, it gives
each of you a clear expectation of the job that should be performed, the benefits such as health
insurance, sick days and even protection for any trade secrets that the employee may be privy to.
Moreover, it can limit the reasons that an employee can leave the company and terminate the
contract early (Findlaw, n.d.).
Furthermore, as an employee you can have your pay with subsequent raises included in the terms
as well as know exactly what could be grounds for dismissal.
All in all a contract can provide each of you with an equitable premise to keep each party happy and
the employment relationship healthy.
Is it appropriate for governments to interfere with private businesses to prevent discrimination? In
what situations do you believe the government should intervene to prevent discrimination?
While each company and corporations have a lot of freedom to choose the employees they feel
is right for the company, and should have choices, in many cases excellent candidates could be
looked over because of their skin color, age or disability (EEOC, n.d.) (Lau Johnson, 2011).
Subsequently, the government has based various laws to protect people that fall into specific
classes, Lau and Johnson, (2011, p.213) named these classes as race, color, religion, sex, national
origin, and then later, age and disability were added to these protected classes.

What Is Sleep Paralysis
SLEEP PARALYSIS RESEARCH PAPER
Sleep paralysis has a history that stretches over centuries, with a vast array of people experiencing
it. Some believe they have been visited by demons, or aliens in the night and attribute such events
to witchcraft or Satanism. There are references to folklore from every nation throughout history.
The Nightmare, is a painting by Henry Fuselli that dates to 1781, and depicts a chilling sleep
paralysis incidence. In this painting, a malicious spirit sits on a man s chest while the victim lies
there limp and unable to fight back. The cultural and spiritual implications of this phenomena is
unique amongst neurological ailments. Isolated sleep paralysis (ISP) is the inability to move or
talk during the transition between sleep and wakefulness, accompanied by auditory and visual
hallucinations that are often extremely hostile. These hallucinations can include a wicked
existence in the room, an impression of being touched, or hearing voices in the room. Some people
see faces at the bedside. This is typically accompanied by a perceived breathlessness. Patients
describe the experience as petrifying. Episodes tend to be more recurrent when sleeping in the

characterized by increased insight, and even access to waking memories. This dissociate

The Relationship Between Print And Digital Reading Essay
Printed and Digital
Analyzing some aspects of the relationship between print and digital reading. A first essential
aspect: more than indicating the substitution of texts printed by the digital ones, the readers of our
universe of research coexistence of these two formats (Dourish Mazmanian, 2013). There is no
disjunction, for the readers that would take the form of reading in print or digital, reading in one or
the other; is verified in the practice that readers read both. This reading in both must be nuanced,
as it is not a matter of reading everything in print and digital, regardless. Some interesting
relationships are drawn. First, text size influences support preferences (Mollen, 2016). Texts large
ones are preferably read in print; texts can be read in such a way that both in print and in digital.
The type of text is also relevant. More serious consumption texts (work and study, notably) tend to
lead to print, from fun to digital. These first two factors, size and type of text, should be
articulated with whether it is a full text or an excerpt (a chapter, for example, for Study): complete
text points to printed matter. Crossing the three elements, an ideal type of text, which would tend to
be consumed in print. At the other extreme, second type Ideal, we have a small text section and
fun, which would tend to digital. The Crosses of these elements can give rise to a continuous range
of possibilities. Access to text is also important. On the other hand, there are

Essay On LED Lighting
THE EFFECTS OF ALBEDO LED LIGHTING ON RETAIL SPACES
Opposite to some popular wisdom, retail stores are not dead, and they will not be replaced by
online operations. People (who use a product or service) continue to spend money at retail
establishments, if for no other reason than to see the physical products that they might later order
online. The store s goal in this competitive (surrounding conditions) is to make the retail outlet and
its products so attractive that the (related to people who use a product or service) (instances of

A store can install a variety of LED lighting options to backlight products or to create indirect or
quiet lighting in different parts of a store. Display cases for smaller items, such as jewelry of
personal fashion can be lit with brighter LED s that draw attention to fine patterns and textures.
Since LED lights operate at low temperatures and without creating the excess heat that is just like
traditional display case lighting, the store s products that are bought and sold will not be harmed
by any excess warmth in display cases.
Many stores operate on thin (how much money is being made), which forces them to reduce
operating costs wherever possible. LED lighting for retail has the possible ability to reduce a
retail store s electrical utility costs by more than half. Modern LED lighting is so (producing a
lot with very little waste) that it can create the same or better lighting as a traditional lighting
fixture with less than half of the electrical energy input. LED bulbs also last longer than other
forms of lighting, and the store s lighting maintenance costs will be reduced. LED lighting for
retail therefore has the possible ability to increase a store s sales and to reduce overhead costs, all
of which gives directly to a store s (money made/good things received).
Stores that operate stand alone locations that are separate from large malls and other shopping
outlets can make their stores more inviting with bright exterior LED lighting. A shopper will

To begin with, King Lear is tragic play written by William Shakespeare that revolves around the

Martin Wright s Theory Of Restorative Justice
The term restorative justice was first used by Albert Eglash in several 1958 articles in which he
suggested that there are three types of criminal justice: (1) retributive justice, based on punishment;
(2) distributive justice, based on therapeutic treatment of offenders; and (3) restorative, based on
restitution. (Van Ness and Strong 23) Howard Zehr is known as the grandfather of restorative justice
; he was certainly one of the first articulators of restorative justicetheory. His interest grew out of
work with victim offender reconciliation programs, and his articles, speeches, books, his teaching

This can be used in both juvenile and adult cases. The goal of victim offender mediation is to
hold the offender directly accountable for his/her behavior while providing important assistance
to the victim at a post incarceration stage. The process follows four phases: (1) referral and
intake, when the case is referred to a mediation agency; (2) preparation for mediation; (3)
mediation and (4) the follow up. Typically, property and other minor crimes are the most common
type of offenses referred to victim offender mediation, although, some violent offenses have been
referred as well. Victim offender mediation focuses on opening a dialogue between a victim and
an offender to promote victim healing and offender accountability. The victim is able to tell their
offender about the crimes physical, emotional and financial impact; to receive answers to lingering
questions about the crime and the offender. Victim offender mediation is one of the clearest
expressions of restorative justice, a movement that is receiving a lot of attention throughout the
U.S. and Europe. There are now 290 victim offender mediation programs in the United States and
more than 500 in Europe. (Office of Justice Programs, National Institute of Justice ) The program
is implemented by being referred by judges, probation officers, victim advocates, prosecutors,

lower because software does not need managing on each computer. From a project perspective,
new system integration is quickly because the development work occurs only at cloud s central

Difference in Salaries between Male and Female Chefs
If you want to become a great chef, you have to work with great chefs. And that s exactly what I
did ( Gordon Ramsay Quote ). Gordon Ramsay said to become a great chef you have to work with
great chefs he never said you had to be a male or female. Its shouldn t matter about their genders.
So why do femalechefs get paid so little and male get paid way more ? Nation s Restaurant News
found out male executive chefs was $17,950 higher than female executive chefs $68,000 V.S.
$50,050 (Coomes). There s so many reasons female chefs should get paid as much as male chefs.
Male shouldn t be the only ones shining , female should be able to shine too. Female chefs should
be paid as much as male chefs because it shouldn t matter the genderand they are doing exactly the
same thing. In general female get paid so little and male get paid so much more . This will be
including female chefs in the food industry. According to Bloomberg.com Women hold just 6.3
percent of head chefpositions in the u.s , according to a survey of 15 prominent restaurant group.
And while female workers make up a majority of food service employee and up to 40 percent of
graduates from some of the country s top cooking school government data shows there s
currently a larger percentage of female CEOs in the u.s. than head chefs (). Females and males
should be treated and paid equal. Womans are not always going to depend on a male. So how will
people like female survive If they get paid so little?

Monoamine Theory
Monoamines are neurotransmitters that include serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine, and
epinephrine. Numerous antidepressant drugs increase synaptic levels of serotonin, but they also
enhance the levels of the neurotransmitters, norepinephrine and dopamine. In the body there is
another monoamine called monoamine oxidase that has the effect of breaking down serotoninand
norepinephrine. Therefore, by blocking the effect of the monoamine oxidase, there is a increase of
synaptic concentrations of monoamines and te symptoms of depression are relieved. This
discovery led to the monoamine hypothesis of depression over 30 years ago, which proposes that
the underlying biological basis for depression is a deficiency of central noradrenergic and
serotonergic systems and that targeting this neuronal lesion with an antidepressant would tend to
restore normal function in depressed patients. A class of drugs known as monoamine oxidase
inhibitors (MAOI) have this effect. However, although helpful to many patients, the monoamine
theory of depression does t address othes issues such as why antidepressants can treat panic
disorders, OCD etc. and why enhacing monoamine concentrations isn t always effective in treating
depression. (1) (2)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Arguments Against Animal Testing
In this world today we don t think about much. There are multiple things going on behind the
scenes, and we re oblivious to it all. One of those things being animal testing, animal testing is a
big problem in today s society, not many people know what s going on in hiding. Animals can feel
pain just like us, and with some of these experiments, the pain an animalcan experience is
tremendous. Therefore, animals should not have to suffer excruciating pain for our beauty products
or medicine when there will always be a first human tester, especially when there are multiple times
the test could pass on animals but not on humans.
Animals can feel pain just like us, no matter what some of us think any living, breathing or moving
thing can feel pain. With animal testing comes a lot of failures on animals which can turn out to be
horrendous. The pain levels animals can feel is beyond the scale of a human s pain tolerance. With
that animals are similar to humans yet very different, which make it harder to trust the drugs and or
beauty products that are being tested on these animals for us. ... Show more content on

Postmodersm In Gothic
In his seminal study Gothic, Botting compares Gothic literature in the eighteenth, nineteenth and
twentieth centuries with respect to their different ways of addressing terror and horror. He notes
that the novel of terror dominated the eighteenth century gothic writings for its transgressive
efficacies. Female Gothic writers examine the terrors of patriarchal oppression while verbalizing the
heroine s anxiety about her entrapment into the confines of domesticity. In other words, the gothic
heroine is plunged into a state of terror stimulated by her own imagination yet, reflected her social
reality. Although the heroine engaged herself in a subversive journey to flee the terrors of the
social order, the gothic genre at that period espoused a restoration and revitalization of the
normalised order through the exorcism of the threatening and vicious characters, as Botting writes:
[V]illains are punished; heroines well married (Gothic 10).
The nineteenth century female gothic witnessed a shift towards the ... Show more content on

Firstly, while investigating it practicality, postmodernismrevisits the belief in objective reality. It
cuts with the consistent oneness and uniformity of Truth/Reality which is stripped of its
hierarchical stance, giving much leeway for the proliferation of multiples realities and the plurality
of new stories, new texts and new fictional worlds constructed by the characters. These nascent
narratives uncover the laden discourse behind the creation of history which is constructed on the
exclusion of the peripherized and inclusion of the dominant for the sake of homogeneity.
Postmodernism thus, while interrogating the tenability of objectivity, divulges the unreliability of
authentic representations. Accordingly, as the centre no longer holds, Reality is relativized Truth is

To A Daughter Leaving Home Poem
he poem To a Daughter Leaving Home by Linda Pastan describes the very memory of a mother
teaching her younger daughter to ride a bicycle. The title of the poem says that the said daughter
the author is speaking of is older now, but the poem concentrates on the past. Pastan s figure of
speech with the use of metaphors, imagery, enjambment show how the bicycle is a part of life s
journey and the diction helps demonstrate the young daughter s maturation from a child to an
adult. Pastan uses several figures of speech to convey what she is presenting. For example,
enjambment is used, where one line runs into another. Such words are, pumping (18), screaming
(19), and flapping (21). The purpose of this is to allow an idea to continue beyond... Show more

The poem consists of one long sentence, which is made up primarily of one long sentence. This
represents the different phases of the lesson, which leads into the growing up procedure. At the
beginning of the poem, the daughter is hence scared to ride the bike and even wobbled (5); she
could not maintain her balance. However, she gained her balance and the mother was in
surprise when you [she] pulled ahead down the curved path of the park (8 10). The mother kept
waiting for the thud of your [her] crash (11 13). Therefore, the author was waiting for her child
to crash, but like in life she gained her balance on the bicycle. As the poem progresses, she grows
up and becomes smaller and more breakable, which shows that she is grown up now and ready to
venture off into the world. The reaction of the mother is the reaction of any mother, she is worried
her daughter might crash and fail, but like all mothers they must let their daughters go. At the end
of the poem, the daughter screams with laughter and keeps pumping and pumping into the distance.
She is happy to finally have her hair flapping behind you [her] like a handkerchief waving goodbye

Jesus Origins Of The Christian Faith
Beginning with an example of my problem in Jesus origins: it is universally accepted in the
historical field that Jesus had siblings. An example of source text on this issue would be Mark 6:
1 6. All but one mainstream scholar would suggest that these are true siblings of Jesus, is in to say
that they were born of both Mary and Joseph and were either older or younger siblings, or both.8
This of course is not compatible with the Catholic faith. To affirm older siblings of Jesuswould be
to deny both the Virgin birth and the perpetual virginity of Mary; to affirm younger siblings of
Jesus would be to deny the perpetual virginity of Mary only. Both of these options contradict
dogmatic pronouncements of the Catholic faith.
Richard Bauckham, the one mainstream scholar who denies this approach, offers a different one,
though for various reasons it is not an accepted theory in the historical field. He offers the
explanation widely found in Eastern Christianity, that Jesus siblings were children of Joseph from
a previous marriage. This solves the problem of the virginity of Mary, but still has problems in
Catholicism.
The Catholic tradition of the brothers and sisters of Jesus is that they are relatives like cousins but
not actual siblings and that their mother was actually a disciple of Jesus, meaning Joseph would
have to be divorced for this to work, a rather uncomfortable though in Catholic theology.
Acceptance of Bauckham s proposal from a Catholic perspective all of

Parents In Finding Nemo
In Finding Nemo, the two characters the movie is about are very special. In a way, I can
connect with the character Nemo because our parents are similar. Marlin, Nemo s dad, is
overprotective and doesn t want to let his son go. Marlin has good reason to want to be
overprotective as well though, considering the tragic loss he went through at the beginning of
the movie, losing his wife and all of his kids except for one. I understand why Nemo is so upset
about his dad not letting him do anything because my parents have been stricter with me than
some parents I know. I used to have a fairly early curfew and they weren t ready to let me go
completely. My mom is especially like this because when she was younger both of her parents
were kind of disconnected

  • 2. Symptoms Of Chikungunya Fever ( Chikf ) Chikungunya fever (CHIKF) is commonly found in urban areas of Southeast Asian and African countries. This disease was first identified in Tanzania in the early 1950s. Frequently, outbreaks of Chikungunya fever have only been described in South Asian and African countries, which are located in tropical and subtropical zones close to the equator. However, this does not stop the disease from traveling to other parts of the world. In 2007, there were 205 laboratory confirmed cases in Italy, making this the first outbreak in a temperate zone. Most cases of the disease tend to appear in densely populated areas, allowing efficient transmission of the pathogen. The first cases of Chikungunya fever in the Americas and Caribbean Islands were reported in late 2013. The causing agent of the Chikungunya fever is the Chikungunya virus (CHIKV). It is an enveloped virus with a positive polar single stranded RNA that belongs to the genus Alphavirus. These types of viruses are often transmitted to humans from mosquitoes infected with the viruses. Alphaviruses, including Sindbis virus (SINV) and Semliki Forest virus (SFV), are major contributors to the group of Arboviruses (arthropod borne viruses). Circulating mainly in a sylvatic, enzootic cycle, CHIKV occasionally spills over into human populations starting in rural areas with small outbreaks. Migration of infected individuals probably results in urban introduction. CHIKF is a zoonotic and vector borne disease. Its major transmission ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Ibsen, Strindberg and Feminism Essay examples In the late 19th century Naturalism was emerging as the primary movement in literature of that period. The movement was influenced heavily by the discoveries made in politics, sciences and psychology of the time. Discoveries such as Darwin s evolutionary theories, Marx s Das Kapital and even Freud s research on the psychology of the human were creating shock and upset and began to revolutionised society s outlook on the world. The naturalist movement in literature also coincided with the beginnings of women s emancipation throughout the western world. Scandinavia, as well as experiencing The Modern Breakthrough, was also dealing with its own political struggles for national identity. For Henrik Ibsenand August Strindbergthe early woman s... In an unsigned notice in The Daily News of June 1889 a writer condemns Nora s actions, Deserting her home, her husband, and above all her children, simply because she finds her husband is angry with her...it may be confidently asserted that no women who ever breathed would do any such thing (1889). Clement Scott, editor of Theatre, would not even describe her action as human but a thing that one of the lower animals would not do (1889a, p. 114) and in an article for The Daily Telegraph even calls Nora absolutely inhuman (1889b, p. 102). This shock reaction was understandable in a culture that had defined a women s place in society, or metaphorically, placed women in a box; the fact that Nora chose to step out of that box was an issue of serious debate. If Nora should desert her place in society then so could others. However W.E Simonds, having read H.F Lord s translation of A Dolls House, reprimanded any critic for calling Nora selfish and failing to see Nora s womanliness and emancipated individuality (1890, p. 147). It is this emancipation of the individual that could be the solution to discovering a theme beyond Ibsen s feminism. • 9. Swot Analysis Of Subway Abstract One of my first jobs a young adult was as a store manager for a local Subway restaurant. Subway is a franchise that has restaurants all over the United States and in several other countries. They operate the organization under a stable culture. I will use my personal experience and the five signs of organizational culture which include mission statement, stories and language, physical layout, rules and policies, and rituals to explain for the organization conveys its organizational culture. Mission Statement Subway s mission statement is Delight every customer, so they want to tell their friends with great value through fresh, delicious, made to order sandwiches, and an exceptional experience (Farfan, 2017). When reviewing the mission statement we can see that the customer service and value is of great importance to the organization. The mission statement reflects that the business is focused on attention to details and creating an experience that will keep customers coming back and referring others to their stores. The mission statement conveys to both the employees and the customers that they will have a stable culture. It does so by so by placing emphasis on quality control and constance. A stable culture is reflected here because Subway will use certain formulas, rules, and strict policies to make sure the customer gets the same excellent service and product at all of its stores. Rituals While working for Subway I had the opportunity to visit several locations. There are not a lot of rituals within the organization. Rituals refer to repetitive activities within an organization that have symbolic meaning (Carpenter, Bauer, Erdogan, 2012, P. 399). One ritual that is popular in most subway restaurants is a sandwich building speed test. After an employee had been employed for 90 days a manager would pick a sandwich off the menu and have the sandwich artist make it as fast as possible. The employee would be scored based on the time it took for them to assemble the sandwich, how closely they followed the build formula for that sandwich, proper length of the sandwich, and neatness of the product upon completion. This ritual reflects that stable culture in a way that this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lao Teh Ching Summary In advance of the group discussion regarding Tao Teh Ching written by Lao Tzu I already had a profoundly fluid knowledge of the several paradoxes and the principles of Taoism that were displayed in the book by Tzu. However I lacked the ability to comprehend the government based aspects, or how they related to the major themes that were spread throughout the book. Also since during the time this book was written it was a warring states period, why was there such a substantial emphasis on having a peaceful state of mind. While I was partaking in our discussion these points were made more clear to me and allowed everything that I already knew to be tied into one thought. There are advantages and disadvantages for both the employee and the employer with contract employment. For the employer, it gives them a way to keep their best employees around, along as they can provide terms that the employee finds advantageous. However, by the same token, a good employee could be offered a more attractive contract by another employer when it comes contract renewal time, having a contract doesn t mean you own that employee, but it gives each of the parties involved a measure of comfort. As an employer and an employee having a contract spells out the terms of employment, it gives each of you a clear expectation of the job that should be performed, the benefits such as health insurance, sick days and even protection for any trade secrets that the employee may be privy to. Moreover, it can limit the reasons that an employee can leave the company and terminate the contract early (Findlaw, n.d.). Furthermore, as an employee you can have your pay with subsequent raises included in the terms as well as know exactly what could be grounds for dismissal. There is no disjunction, for the readers that would take the form of reading in print or digital, reading in one or the other; is verified in the practice that readers read both. This reading in both must be nuanced, as it is not a matter of reading everything in print and digital, regardless. Some interesting relationships are drawn. First, text size influences support preferences (Mollen, 2016). Texts large ones are preferably read in print; texts can be read in such a way that both in print and in digital. The type of text is also relevant. More serious consumption texts (work and study, notably) tend to lead to print, from fun to digital. Numerous antidepressant drugs increase synaptic levels of serotonin, but they also enhance the levels of the neurotransmitters, norepinephrine and dopamine. In the body there is another monoamine called monoamine oxidase that has the effect of breaking down serotoninand norepinephrine. Therefore, by blocking the effect of the monoamine oxidase, there is a increase of synaptic concentrations of monoamines and te symptoms of depression are relieved. This discovery led to the monoamine hypothesis of depression over 30 years ago, which proposes that the underlying biological basis for depression is a deficiency of central noradrenergic and serotonergic systems and that targeting this neuronal lesion with an antidepressant would tend to restore normal function in depressed patients. It cuts with the consistent oneness and uniformity of Truth/Reality which is stripped of its hierarchical stance, giving much leeway for the proliferation of multiples realities and the plurality of new stories, new texts and new fictional worlds constructed by the characters. These nascent narratives uncover the laden discourse behind the creation of history which is constructed on the exclusion of the peripherized and inclusion of the dominant for the sake of homogeneity. Postmodernism thus, while interrogating the tenability of objectivity, divulges the unreliability of authentic representations. Accordingly, as the centre no longer holds, Reality is relativized Truth is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. To A Daughter Leaving Home Poem he poem To a Daughter Leaving Home by Linda Pastan describes the very memory of a mother teaching her younger daughter to ride a bicycle. The title of the poem says that the said daughter the author is speaking of is older now, but the poem concentrates on the past. Pastan s figure of speech with the use of metaphors, imagery, enjambment show how the bicycle is a part of life s journey and the diction helps demonstrate the young daughter s maturation from a child to an adult. Pastan uses several figures of speech to convey what she is presenting. For example, enjambment is used, where one line runs into another. Such words are, pumping (18), screaming (19), and flapping (21). The purpose of this is to allow an idea to continue beyond... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The poem consists of one long sentence, which is made up primarily of one long sentence. This represents the different phases of the lesson, which leads into the growing up procedure. At the beginning of the poem, the daughter is hence scared to ride the bike and even wobbled (5); she could not maintain her balance. However, she gained her balance and the mother was in surprise when you [she] pulled ahead down the curved path of the park (8 10). The mother kept waiting for the thud of your [her] crash (11 13). Therefore, the author was waiting for her child to crash, but like in life she gained her balance on the bicycle. As the poem progresses, she grows up and becomes smaller and more breakable, which shows that she is grown up now and ready to venture off into the world. The reaction of the mother is the reaction of any mother, she is worried her daughter might crash and fail, but like all mothers they must let their daughters go. At the end of the poem, the daughter screams with laughter and keeps pumping and pumping into the distance. She is happy to finally have her hair flapping behind you [her] like a handkerchief waving goodbye ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Jesus Origins Of The Christian Faith Beginning with an example of my problem in Jesus origins: it is universally accepted in the historical field that Jesus had siblings. An example of source text on this issue would be Mark 6: 1 6. All but one mainstream scholar would suggest that these are true siblings of Jesus, is in to say that they were born of both Mary and Joseph and were either older or younger siblings, or both.8 This of course is not compatible with the Catholic faith. To affirm older siblings of Jesuswould be to deny both the Virgin birth and the perpetual virginity of Mary; to affirm younger siblings of Jesus would be to deny the perpetual virginity of Mary only. Both of these options contradict dogmatic pronouncements of the Catholic faith. Richard Bauckham, the one mainstream scholar who denies this approach, offers a different one, though for various reasons it is not an accepted theory in the historical field. He offers the explanation widely found in Eastern Christianity, that Jesus siblings were children of Joseph from a previous marriage. This solves the problem of the virginity of Mary, but still has problems in Catholicism. The Catholic tradition of the brothers and sisters of Jesus is that they are relatives like cousins but not actual siblings and that their mother was actually a disciple of Jesus, meaning Joseph would have to be divorced for this to work, a rather uncomfortable though in Catholic theology. Acceptance of Bauckham s proposal from a Catholic perspective all of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. Parents In Finding Nemo In Finding Nemo, the two characters the movie is about are very special. In a way, I can connect with the character Nemo because our parents are similar. Marlin, Nemo s dad, is overprotective and doesn t want to let his son go. Marlin has good reason to want to be overprotective as well though, considering the tragic loss he went through at the beginning of the movie, losing his wife and all of his kids except for one. I understand why Nemo is so upset about his dad not letting him do anything because my parents have been stricter with me than some parents I know. I used to have a fairly early curfew and they weren t ready to let me go completely. My mom is especially like this because when she was younger both of her parents were kind of disconnected ...
