Head Protection
• Well fitted hard hat
• Date ?!


Some do’s & don’ts
1. Make sure that the hat is adjusted to a snug
but not tight fit.
2. Do not write or draw on the hat as this can
weaken the protective surface.
3. Check date to see if hat is too old.
4. Do not throw hats around, place them in a
clean environment.
5. If you see the blue/white hat sign put your hat
on! It’s the LAW!

Eye Protection
• Goggles, not glasses
• Lenses always kept clean


Remember…….
Your eyes are a lifeline to work &
leisure, try driving your precious
car without them! It takes very
little to destroy them, a spark, a
piece of metal or even cement dust
could harm them. Prescription
glasses offer NO protection, in fact
it could make things worse!

Ear Protection
• Good quality ear muffs


Protecting your ears and hearing isn’t as
obvious protecting your eyes, but the fact
that you can’t see the damage does not
mean it isn’t happening. Noise levels over
90db for long periods can permanently
damage your hearing.
Wear good quality ear protectors or “in
the ear” type foam plugs. Ear protectors
are designed to filter out damaging
frequencies but allow you to hear
important stuff like “Watch out below!”

Lung Protection
• Good quality, fitting
mask


Let’s take a look at respiratory equipment……
As your eyes are to work & leisure, the lungs
are your most fundamental connection to life
itself. Protect them from:

 WOOD DUST
ASBESTOS DUST
PAINT/VARNISH/GLUE FUMES
And remember, if it smells bad it
probably is bad for your lungs.

WOOD DUST
• Wood dust is organic/vegetable matter and
should be prevented from entering the body at
all costs. Once inside, the potential for harm is
enormous. Cancer, lung infections being the
most obvious.
• Oak dust can cause throat cancer and the glues
in particle boards can be a serious threat to
health.
• Asthma & migraine can be triggered by fine
dust found in woods like IROKO.

Manual Lifting and Handling

Hoists and cranes
Make sure area is clear
Learn the new hand
signals for moving on site

Hats, boots and gloves !
Remember! It’s a team
effort that will get it right

rated for the load you
want to carry.


Hand Protection
• Suitable gloves for the appropriate
job
• Hands are clean before eating
• Barrier creams


Foot Protection
• Good quality, sturdy boots – steel
capped
• Always keep clean and polished
• Oil-resistant soles

Stay calm, don’t panic

Do you know why you need this
information ?
 If you need to direct emergency services.
 the first aider will know what to do next
 you might need to stay with the injured
person while someone else calls for help
Proof that might be needed later on if a
claim is made.
You can make important decisions better.
