HEALTH AND SAFETY
Stags and Hens Set Construction
CIRCULAR SAW
WOOD DUST:
Using this equipment produces a lot of wood dust. Wood dust is a
substance that is hazardous to health because it can cause serious no-
reversible health problems, including:
•Skin Disorders;
•Obstruction in the nose and rhinitis;
•Asthma;
•A rare type of nasal cancer.
In order to minimise the risks of wood dust it is advisable for
all people using the Circular Saw to wear a dust mask and
eye goggles.
Physical Injury:
Using this equipment can also lead to physical
injury such as;
•Loss of fingers;
•Sever cuts;
•If clothing is caught arms could be severely cut.
To minimise the risks of injury only trained people
should use the circular saw. Also you must wear
appropriate protective gear;
•Eye goggles
•Dust mask
HAND DRILL
•Wear safety glasses or a face shield.
•Keep drill air vents clear to maintain adequate
ventilation.
•Keep drill bits sharp always.
•Keep all cords clear of the area during use.
• Inspect the drill and wood for damage before
each use.
•Tighten the chuck securely.
Remove chuck key before starting drill.
•Secure work piece being drilled to prevent
movement.
Slow the rate of feed just before breaking
through the surface.
•Drill a small "pilot" hole before drilling large
holes.
To avoided injury when using the Hand Drill:
•Do not use a bent drill bit.
•Do not exceed the manufacturer's recommended maximum drilling
capacities.
•Do not overreach. Always keep proper footing and balance.
•Do not use excessive force to drill into hard material. Reduce drill
speed if possible.
•Do not reach under or around wood being drilled.
•Keep hands clear or in a safe position when drilling.
•Make sure long hair is tied back and clothes with tassels or extra
material is either removed tied back.
•Make sure that the surface the wood is clamped to is stable.
Using the Hand Drill can
cause physical injury such
as:
•Sever cuts which could
lead to loss of fingers.
JIGSAW Using the jig saw can lead to physical injury
such as:
•Loss of fingers;
•Sever injury.
Using the Jigsaw can also produce a lot
of wood dust:
Using this equipment produces a lot of
wood dust. Wood dust is a substance
that is hazardous to health because it
can cause serious no- reversible health
problems, including:
•Skin Disorders;
•Obstruction in the nose and rhinitis;
•Asthma;
•A rare type of nasal cancer.
•Put on safety glasses
•Also avoid wearing loose clothing
and unbuttoned long sleeves.
•Use the correct saw blades for
each job.
•Drill a hole into material for an
interior cut with a drill equip with a
hole cutter bit
•Unplug all power tools after each
use or if they are not being used for
a long period of time.
•Bring the saw up to speed before
contacting the cutting surface with
the blade.
•Limit the thickness of wood to the
length of the blade you have.
