Narcotics Anonymous Meeting Analysis
Through my observations of the Narcotics Anonymous meeting I believe that my analysis could be
beneficial to the realm of medicine. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2014) released a
study that displayed, health care providers wrote 259 million prescriptions for painkillers in 2012,
enough for every American adult to have a bottle of pills. Considering the mass amount of
prescriptions being written nationwide, it is not surprising that one of the members in the NA
meeting I attended was able to easily obtain painkillers from her doctor. The specific interaction I
encountered during the Narcotics Anonymous meeting where the woman described that her
addiction was being supported by the constant prescriptions written by her doctor... Show more

The word epidemic itself spreads fear throughout society, however fluctuations in drug use are
considered epidemics, which may not instill fear into the general public. Due to the fact that the
CDC considers opioid overdose as a national epidemic, it may be confused to what this epidemic
entails. This is not saying that the misuse and rising overdoses due to opioid painkillers is not a
serious problem, it just may render the severity of the problem. In addition, because the CDC
does consider the rise of overdoses due to painkillers an epidemic, the access to treatment needs
to be more widely available. Through one of the interactions I had during my time at the NA
meeting, I was able to understand that many people feel as though they do not or did not have
access to help. Dan Mangan (2016), writes, [a] survey released Tuesday by the Kaiser Family
Foundation also found that a large majority of Americans believe that lack of access to care for
people suffering from substance abuse is a problem in the United States. In this, those who work in
medicine should take from my supporting observations and numerous studies that access to
recovery programs need to become more widely available. If the United States is going to
consider the use of opioid painkillers as an epidemic, action needs to be taken to assist addicts and
educate the nation on the effects of these

Who Killed Benny Paret
Millions of people worldwide take part as spectators to the sport of prize fighting: better known as
boxing. In a 1962 essay entitled Who Killed Benny Paret? the author, Norman Cousins, writes about
the dangers that come with the sport of boxing. He especially talks about a match that resulted in
the death of a boxer named Benny Paret. Cousins argues that boxingis just a show of violence and
that boxers put themselves in the ring just for the simple purpose of entertaining a crowd. Even
though investigations reflect the role of the referee, Paret s manager, and the doctor s examinations
as the main cause of Paret s death, Cousins blames Paret s death on the people that attends boxing
matches to see a man get hurt or knockoutbecause he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The referee could it stop the fight, the manager should it not rushed Paret to fight if he was not
ready and the doctors should it examined him further. Boxers sometimes face the challenge of
defeating their opponent for many reasons. Those reasons could be to prove they can win, to
earn money and to not disappoint or lead down fans and beaters. Many boxers choose boxing
because they are good at it and it s a way of earning money, just like Benny Paret. Boxing is a
dangerous sport since every boxer become badly hurt and ill at the end of every match. Most
boxers suffer from brain damages as a result of many hits in the head. Cousins explains that
Benny Paret was killed because of a massive hemorrhage in the brain, caused by an impact
directed against the head (par. 7) Cousins also wrote Not every blow to the head will kill a man
but there is always the risk of concussion and damage to the brain (par. 7). Fighters that survive
repeated concussions still go and fight, but the problem here is that the damage in the brain may
be permanent. Sometimes boxers should consider their health problems before fighting again. The
viewers are the main encouragement for boxers to keep fighting or to fight harder. They don t
come out to see a tee party, said Mike Jacobs evenly. They come out to see the knockout. They
come out to see a man hurt. If they think anything else, they re kidding themselves (qtd. in

Management by objectives This technique allows all parties, the project manager, the functional
manager, and the employee, to share and to participate in the appraisal. It epitomizes the systems
approach since it allows for objectives modification without undue or undeserved penalty to the
employee. Finally, it uses objective data and downplays subjective data.

What IS MBO ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although there is an understandable degree of variation among the scholars and practitioners about
the composition of an MBO program, they all appear to agree on the following guidelines:
* Superiors and subordinates meet and discuss goals for the subordinates that are in line with
organizational goals.
* The superior and subordinate jointly establish goals for the subordinate.
* The superior and the subordinate meet again after establishing the initial goals and evaluate the
subordinate s performance in terms of these goals.
Conceptually, MBO is the ultimate in participative management, since a subordinate can help
establish personal objectives for their job, help determine the measurements used in evaluating
performance, and receive constant feedback on progress. On the surface MBO restates the
obvious. For example, Isaiah (46:11) writes: I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have
purposed it, I will also do it. Unfortunately all human endeavor is full of disasters where
fundamental principles or obvious data were overlooked, ignored, or rejected.

Pathophysiology Of Diabetes Mellitus And Mellitus
Diabetes Mellitus

Diabetes Mellitus Research Paper
Ms. Annabelle Anglo
3/16/2015
EXPLANATION OF PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
The pathophysiology of the two types of Diabetes Mellitus are described by Schilling (2010). Type
1 Non Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus starts with a viral infection or other triggering
condition that forms antibodies that destroy the beta cells within the pancreas. This causes the
pancreas production of insulin to drop over time. Initially, the body uses the insulin that was
already produced, but as the insulin decreases, the cells within the body are not able to receive
and use the glucose. The sugar remains in the bloodstream after digestion and the negative effects
of hyperglycemia become more damaging. With Type 1, about 90% or the beta cells are killed by
the antibodies.
Type 2 Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease caused by one or more of the
following three factors.
Impaired insulin production within the pancreas, so the body does not have enough to move the
glucose into the tissues and cells.
Incorrect glucose production in the liver.
The cells resist the insulin, so it cannot attach to the correct receptors.
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF DIABETES MELLITUS, according to the American Diabetes
Association (2015) the most basic symptoms of Type 1 and Type 2 DM are:

Independent Music s Influence On The Development Of...
INTRODUCTION This essay will be looking at Independent music in relation to the
categorisation of distribution and production. It will also discuss the impact with regard to the
development of musical performances and production. Originally, Independent music referred
to bands or artists who performed and/or produced music autonomously and without the
commercial rules and restrictions associated with major record labels (Hale, 2014). Throughout
the years Independent music has evolved into a broader meaning that is harder to define. Today,
the term Indie is used to describe a genre of music and is often used as a prefix to another genre
such as Indie Rock and Indie Folk. So what is Indie music? And how did Indie evolve to become
a genre? BRIEF HISTORY OF EARLY INDEPENDENT RECORD LABELS Independent record
labels have been around since music started being recorded (King, 2012, p.13). Created by
fanatics with a passion for music, the recording and production process was often self funded
and the purpose was to nurture talent and creativity. Most of the major record companies we
know today would have once started in this manner (King, 2012). As far back as 1917
independent record labels were recording early Blues and Jazz music. In 1920 following the end
of World War 1 (WW1), Brunswick became known as the biggest independent label in the USA.
Due to financial problems, Brunswick went into receivership in 1930 and was bought out by
Warner Brothers who are still one of

Persuasive Speech About Autism
Your child will go an institution when she grows up! End of discussion!
Eleven years ago, when I was two and a half years old, I went to to the University of Chicago
Autism Center with my mom and my grandma Susan.
I was getting evaluated for Autism, and I came out with a report that I had Severe Moderate
Autism, and the language of an eighteen month old. In July or August 2006, I was throwing a
HUGE tantrum, it was also the day my mom and my grandma brought me to the doctor. I was still
screaming and crying at the doctor s office, and the doctor said something that changed both my
mom and my grandma s life forever.
Excuse me?! my mom yelled angrily.
My mom wasn t pleased at all. She made a comeback by defending me, saying that
My daughter has Autism! And I know she can grow up to be a very normal person, like her peers,
like everyone else! She does NOT need to go to an institution! We re also never ever coming back
again!
We left, never coming back again.
Kim, she s never going to speak. said my grandma. You tried 2 years to get her to speak.
Oh yes she will! snapped my mom, carrying a failing toddler in her arms.
I seemed like a normal child, but the only problem was that still couldn t speak, not a word, not at
all. So I had to throw fits to communicate my feelings and needs. My sister, who was only 19
months younger than me, had more words than me and was developmentally ahead of me when it
came to Language/Social development. She did more stuff

1984 Dystopia Analysis
The idea of a utopia sounds like a great idea, however it always turns into a feared dystopia. This
is exactly what happens in the novel, 1984 and in the notorious group, The Ku Klux Klan. The
definition of Utopia is an imaginary and indefinitely remote place (Utopia). The illusion these
groups create never end up being utopias and eventually becomes a dystopia. The definition of
dystopia is an imaginary place where people lead dehumanized and often fearful lives
(Dystopia). The KKK and Oceania are perfect examples of a falsified utopias that are simply
dystopias. In the book, 1984 written by George Orwell, Big Brother makes the illusion of a
utopia via the uses of doublespeak, propaganda and, brainwashing. In Oceania, Big Brother
convinces the citizens that they live in a utopian world while they are really living in a dystopia.
Big Brother makes everything seem better by saying that it is better. In the novel, Big Brother
decreases the chocolate rations but tells everyone seem that it is increased. It appeared that there
had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty
grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be
reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty
four hours? Yes, they swallowed it. Parsons swallowed it easily, with the stupidity of an animal.
The eyeless creature at the other table swallowed it fanatically,

How Does The Crucifixion In The Dream Of The Rood
In The Dream of the Rood, an Anglo Saxon poem written in the early Middle Ages, Christ s
death and burial is described in a manner which is startlingly different from the original biblical
accounts. In order to highlight the important victory of the crucifixion, the poet of The Dream of
the Rood describes Christ as an aggressive warrior who boldly confronts and defeats sin. This
description is constant with the honor and courage so highly valued in the early medieval culture.
The words used to describe Christ s approach to the crucifixionin The Dream of the Rood reveal the
poet s conscious choice to portray Jesusas a purposeful courageous warrior:
Then the young hero (who was God Almighty)
Got ready, resolute and strong in heart.
...the warrior embraced [the cross].
Instead of simply using the word Christ, the poet calls Jesus the young hero and the warrior. The
poet also presents a warrior like image of Christ by portraying Jesus exuberantly preparing for
combat rather than being lead passively to the cross. Where the Bible ... Show more content on

Where the book of John says that Jesus bowed his head and gave up his spirit, the poet of The
Dream of the Rood says that Christ sent forth his spirit. This small difference between these two
accounts is important because the poet of The Dream of the Rood does not suggest that Jesus
gently give up his spirit, but rather that he forcefully and willfully ended his life, in complete
control of the situation until the end. Just as The Dream of the Rood poet omits details in the
biblical accounts of the crucifixion that imply Jesus was a passive participant in his death, he or
she de emphasizes the disgrace, humiliation, and indignity of Christ s position. Nowhere in The
Dream of the Rood is it mentioned that Jesus was mocked, flogged, and spit upon in the manner
described in the gospel of

Essay On Direct Observation Of Children
1)Evaluation tool(s) being used (Ex: Pre/post testing, questionnaires, rubric, checklist) The
evaluation of coughing and sneezing technique will use return demonstration to make sure
children understand it. The teacher will use direct observation of the behavior to evaluate the
children s understanding of the skill (Miller Stoeckel, 2016, p. 321). Direct observation is done
by using the senses to observe the children (Miller Stoeckel, 2016, p. 321). Then a rubric will be
used to record the observation and how well the children did. Rubrics are often used to determine
how the children preformed (Miller Stoeckel, 2016, p. 324). Then, to evaluate cold and flu

Direct observation of the children was used as direct evaluation because it was an appropriate
way to evaluate the children. The game was also used to directly evaluated the children because
peer notes were taking and then used to fill out a rubric. Direct questioning was used as a form
of indirect measurement to evaluated what the children learned about handwashing. 2)How is
data being collected? Data is being collected by visually watching and keeping track of how
many children learned how to cough and sneeze during the exercise. At the end we will have
each kid show us and we can record the amount that learned all the steps. Data is also being
collected by directly questioning the children to assess what they have learned. 3)How will you
analyze your evaluation data? I will analyze my data by looking to see if 75 % of the class
successful learned how to cough and sneeze properly. I will do the same for cold and flu
symptoms and for handwashing techniques. If I was successful, over 75 % of the children should
have learned what was being taught. The total of children that were successful will be divided by
the total number of children to see if it was a successful

Big Nurse Ratched Quotes
Nurse Ratched, known as Big Nurse is the head nurse in the asylum and her role is to keep order
and control in the ward. She is a master of manipulation. In the passage on page 55, the metaphor
referring to the therapy meeting as bunch of chickens at a peckin party uses an animal motif to
further emphasize the inhuman way Big Nurse retains control. The alliteration peckin party and
blood and bones (Kesey, 55) underscores the seriousness of the meeting. Harding is the chicken in
this peckin party and Big Nurse is the one who takes the first peck. Adding amplification to
McMurphy s analogy, detailing blood spotted chickens that get pecked to death and as their blood

The peckin party is a way to keep order by singling out and humiliating the individual until they
have no self worth. Miss Ratched puts up a pleasant facade giving the illusion that her motives
are for the greater good of her patients. This is evident in Harding s denial of McMurphy s view
that the meetings are Peckin Parties, Our dear Miss Ratched? Our sweet, smiling, tender angel
of mercy, Mother Ratched, a ball cutter? Why, friend, that s most unlikely (57). Miss Ratched s
job is to keep order in the ward at all costs. She does not act out of pure obligation to do her job
well, but enforces her authority even at the expense of the patient s progress. Miss Ratched s
treatment of Billy is proof of how she casts aside patient s advancement and wellbeing to ensure
strict adherence to the rules. Billy desires to live a normal life but Miss Ratched squashes his
dreams and keeps him under her thumb. Sadly, when McMurphy schemes to give Billy a real
sexual encounter, he gets caught. Even though Billy shows a glimmer of confidence, Miss
Ratched targets his weakness to his mother by saying, Mrs. Bibbit s always been so proud of
your discretion. I know she has. This is going to disturb her terribly. You know how she is when

The Use of Imagery in The Princess Bride by William Goldman
In The Princess Bride by William Goldman there is a love so strong not even death can take it away.
When you think of a princess you may picture a girl with a lavish dress on and a crown full of
jewels on top of her head, but not in William Goldman s The Princess Bride. The readers
encounter just a regular girl from a family that was never royalty, and who is always thinking of
her one true love who was once thought dead.
The use of Imagery is seen in William Goldman s The Princess Bride when the author tells about
when he did not like to read, The Zoo of Death, and The Cliffs of Insanity.
When readers read a story written by an author they will usually think that the author likes to
read books and is what led the author to writing a book. William Goldman said, As a child, I had
no Interest in reading (Goldman 3), this can lead readers to imagining the author as a young child
rather than an adult not wanting to read a book. When Readers imagine the author as a young
child the image imagined can give a better sense of how the author felt as a young child. The
imagination of a child giving the reader a picture to think about is less complex than that of a adult
giving a reader a picture to think about.
The Zoo is ever child s dream of seeing strange animals that they have never seen before, but this
zoo is like no other. It was kept with things he could hunt, and it really wasn t like any animal
sanctuary (Goldman 60). The zoo of Death as the zoo is called is full of

Rapa Nui And The Statue Of Easter Island
Easter Island was one of the last places on the Earth colonized by humans, representing the
culmination of the journey that people started when they left Africa. The history of this isolated
Pacific Ocean island offers many lessons about humanity, and a better understanding of this
mysterious place could help us build a better future. Jared Diamond, in an article from Discover
Magazine, expresses the theory of individuals going to take after what occurred with Easter Island.
In a short period of time, the people of Easter Island cut their forest, got their plants and animals to
extinction, and created chaos and cannibalism. The most important factor, according to Diamond, is
the reaction of society to ecological change. There is something more significant about this island
with two names, excepting the fact that the archipelago is in the middle of the ocean and has
volcanoes, found all over the small island are statues of enormous heads. Researchers have
identified 887 of these giant head statues. The statues are named Moai. The ancient Rapa Nui
people carved these statues out of volcanic rocks. Over time, the researchers have launched various
assumptions about the mysterious purpose of the Rapa Nui statue. Some have argued that these are
the artistic representations of some gods, others have launched fantastic theories that they were
inspired by aliens. The clues that allowed this mystery to come loose came from the language
spoken on Rapa Nui. Scientists have long believed that the inhabitants of the Easter Island have...

Public Education System
Introduction Hook Background I think that there are many things that we in America can do to fix
our education system but to go over two generalized topics we must reevaluate our teachers and
how we work our system in general. These two are the most important factors besides the students ,
and teachers directly affect those so I m going to start there.
Of all the important things for teachers to do is to teach and to make students get into the things
that they re learning. That usually doesn t happen as most of the good and enthusiastic teachers are
in rich schools and the teachers that are under qualified and do not care about students get put at the
schools that are underfunded. To remedy this you must make sure that equally qualified... Show

By hiring Betsy DeVos and other idiots who want to devalue educationas the people who run the
system will obviously make the system turn into one of the worst school systems in the
world. These people who have no interest and what would be good for the students , are only
focused on the bank check at the end of the day. They want what will make them big bucks.
Going along with that , we also put way too much money into the military , thus taking away
crucial funds that should go to the education system. Instead of letting incompetent presidents
chose incompetent cabinet members we should allow the people to vote ,as we do with any
other elected position. It would allow us to choose the right Leader for the job and not one who
wants to make it harder for underprivileged children and young adults to get the education that
they deserve. Another thing we should do to make the Education system better you to start
focusing more on making the education system one that values learning over test scores. Some
school districts are already doing that as they are switching over to project based learning from
text based. It removes the proverbial shackles of the dreaded end of the year test from students
who already hate it enough as it is. It is the cause of why students hate going to school as most of
our education is derivative of the learning targets which are the different points of the Standards of
learning, our states standardised

Romeo and Juliet as a Tragedy Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy, which was written by William
Shakespeare in 1599. The Elizabethans totally believed in fate, they believed that your destiny

challenge. If it wasn t fate there are many more things which could have caused the tragedy; the

Henry Ford1 Essay
Henry Ford1 Octavian Augustus (63 B.C.E 14 AD) is known as the first, and one of the greatest,
Roman Emperors ever. Octavian enabled the long, peaceful time of the Pax Romana by changing
Rome from a fragile, crumbling republican government to a mighty empire. OctavianВ№s
government was strong enough to withstand weak emperors who mismanaged the Empire. His
changes proved to be the cornerstone of the greatest empire the world has ever seen. During the
Conflict of Orders, the lower class Romans, or plebeians, forced the upper class Romans, known
as patricians, to give them more rights and liberties (Hadas 1969). The Republican government in
Rome was established to satisfy the plebeians, while still leaving a majority of the control... Show

He started to accept anyone into the army regardless of whether they owned any land. This
created a vast change in the makeup of the armies. Many poor people decided to join in hopes
that they would benefit financially from any victories. Soldiers became attached to Roman
generals rather than the state because of the possible economic gains (Hanes 1997). The
governmentВ№s separation of the army would prove to be a major problem. Laws could only
be enforced if The Republic controlled the armies. When the army followed a general rather
than the government, the government lost all power. In 90 B.C.E, Roman allies in Italy finally
rebelled against the city. The allies were angry that they were not considered citizens of Rome.
They had benefited little from Roman expansion even though their citizens had served in the
military. After a very bloody campaign, the Social War, as it was called, eventually ended when
the allies were defeated. The Senate, however, decided to grant citizenship to the allies (Hanes
1997). This move expanded the Roman State to all of Italy. As the number of citizens grew, The
Republic became harder and harder to manage. During the Social Wars, one general, Lucius
Cornelius Sulla proved to be very successful in battles. Based on this military success, Sulla was
elected consul in 88 BCE After completing his term, Marius tried to stop Sulla from taking any
military command. Sulla countered by marching his troops on Rome

beheaded American journalist James Foley in apparent retaliation for U.S. airstrikes that
targeted ISIS. After his death, the U.S. announced that troops had attempted to rescue him and
other U.S. hostages, but they were unable to locate them. ISIS said Steven Sotloff, another
kidnapped American journalist, would be killed if the airstrikes continued. President Barack
Obama referred to ISIS as a cancer. ISIS released a video showing the beheading of Sotloff, 31,

and ranges from 4% to 20% in the adult population with more common in elderly. Elderly with
SCHT had higher risk of incident heart failure. Few studies reported the prevalence of thyroid
dysfunction in elderly Egyptians especially ischemic group. The aim of our study was to estimate
the prevalence of Subclinical hypothyroidism in elderly cardiac patients and to assess the relation
between cardiovascular risk and thyroid function in elderly.
Methods: cross sectional study included 45 elderly Egyptian patients with cardiovascular disease
and 45 healthy elderly subjects as controls. Cardiac patients were subdivided to ischemic (n=23)
and hypertensive groups (n=22). Serum level of FT4, FT3, TSH, lipid profile, fasting blood glucose
were measured. Also Electrocardiogram (ECG) and Cardiac catheterization were done in cardiology

The Causative Bacterial Agent For Lyme Disease
Borrelia burgdorferi, the causative bacterial agent for Lyme Disease, has persisted for thousands
of years. Recently, scientists have found genetic remains of the bacteria from a mummy dating
back 5,300 years (National Geographic, 2011). However, Borrelia burgdorferi was not classified
and identified as the putative source for Lyme Diseaseuntil the early 1980 s.
After mysterious and untreatable symptoms appeared in children and adults of the city of Lyme,
Connecticut, the goal for many clinical microbiologists was to discover the source of disease and
possible cures. It wasn t until Dr. Willy Burgdorfer made a connection between the infected
populace and tick bites when the bacteria was truly discovered (bayarealyme.org). It was then the
bacterium was christened in his name. The bacterium continues to be extensively studied.
Borrelia burgdorferi have many defining characteristics. The spirochete shape distinguishes the
bacterium from other human pathogens. Borrelia burgdorferi is considered a microaerophile it
thrives in environments of low oxygen. However, it can also be classified as an obligate anaerobe
(wisegeek.org). It is considered a weak gram negative bacteria, but is better characterized as a
diderm (Wikipedia). This means that the bacterium has two cell membranes, thus making gram
staining difficult. The bacterial genome consists of one linear chromosome with 17 additional
plasmids totaling over 1000 genes. Most of these genes code for surface proteins

The history of bodybuilding started by Eugene Sandow born in Prussia in 1867 is known as The
Father of Bodybuilding . Sandow was one of the first people in the history to reach this level of
muscular perfection. At the age of 19, he was using body building as a form of entertainment by
showing off his barbell and strong muscles. Soon enough Sandow had a large group of people
following him, who were inspired by his strength and skills. The point of bodybuilding at this time
was not so much for physical appearance but more for showing the audience the men strength.
These entertainers were called strong men and they would often compete to see who was stronger
than the other one. However many of these strong men were overweighted and unattractive in

bodybuilding subculture that we know today with its emphasis on looks, muscles and strength were

The Problem Of Police Harassment Essay
Well, the numbers do lie, according to Michael A. Wood Jr., a former Baltimore narcotics cop
with 11 years of experience. He has become a whistleblower for reforming police misconduct and
he ll be one of the first to tell you that stop and frisk statistics are junk. The reality of police
harassment is much worse and he points out the obvious that filling out paperwork is time
consuming and most cops don t bother if a search is unsuccessful. This can be seen with the frisk
that was recorded for The Nation. Wood says, The black community hasn t been lying (about
harassment) for the last fifty years. We need to fix it in a realistic, scientific way to where we have
some empathy and treat people like human beings. Because we don t.
In cases where police have been caught fabricating evidence, it again seemingly most often
victimizes minorities. For instance, the former police chief of San Jose and Kansas City, Joseph
McNamara, estimated that hundreds of thousands of police officers commit perjury with drug
arrests. He said, They don t feel lying under oath is wrong because politicians tell them they are
engaged in a holy war fighting evil...(T)hese mostly white cops are testifying against are poor
blacks and Latinos.

The proposition that the sun is in the center of the world and immovable from its place is

Abstract
The experiment aimed at determining the quality of drinking water through the examination and
comparison of the level of contamination in tap water, Fiji bottled water and Dasani bottled water.
Through the experiment the researcher wanted to prove that bottled water is worth the cost. The
methods used included the ammonia test strip experiment, the chloride test strip experiment, the 4
in 1 test strip experiment, the phosphate test strip experiment and the iron test strip experiment,
which were simultaneously performed for the three water samples. The results indicated that bottled
water tend to be less contaminated as compared to tap water, thus making them safe for drinking
and effective for preventing waterborne diseases. the Dasani water had the lowest level of
contamination, followed by the Fiji water, with the tap water having the highest level of water
contamination.

Rmk Influence On German Culture
With this concept in mind, the Kampfbund fГјr deutsche Kultur, or the Militant League for German
Culture, was created in 1929. Originally headed by Alfred Rosenburg, the Nazis took over the
institution when Hitler rose to power and it became known as the Reichskulturkammer in 1933.
The RKK was created to combat cultural influence that did not further Germanness . A division of
the RKK became known as the Reichsmusikammer, or the RMK, that was used to censor music all
throughout Germany. The only problem with the RMK was that it was entirely run by men with
almost no musical background. It can be agreed that all Germans were very fond of music and its
impact on the soul, but not all took the time to learn how to create and play music. The first of
many cultural restrictions targeted music specifically and crippled the creation of music in German

Comparing Augustine s Confessions And Montaignes Essay
Both St. Augustine s Confessions and Montaigne s Essays illuminate the difficulty of achieving
what the classical autobiography implicitly promises to the reader and the writer, namely, total self
knowledge, and/or self mastery. In an organized essay compare and contrast how each author
negotiates (i.e. respond to) this difficulty.
Both Augustine s Confessions and Montaigne s Essays shed light on the difficulties in achieving
self mastery and self knowledge. Confession is an autobiography of his life, it covers from his birth
to his conversion to Christianity, while Essays is a living document about Montaigne explaining
human nature and human behaviors remaining constant. In Montaigne s Essay, he does not focus

Argumentative Essay On Beauty Pageants
In 1854 instead of judging woman or young girls on their looks, Phineas Taylor Barnum began
judging animals on their looks, this was the first beauty pageant. The first swimsuit competition
was held in 1880 at a festival to bring business however, it soon became a summer tradition .
Women from all around the world became interested in them, wanting to be seen as the perfect
woman. Currently, there are 3 different types of beauty pageants, a glitz pageant consists of the
contestants wearing heavy makeup, crystal decorated clothes and wearing slip on veneers.
Another type of pageant is named a semi glitz pageant which is very similar to the glitz pageant
, except contestants are not allowed to wear any hair pieces or slip on veneers. The third type of
pageant is referred to as the natural pageant , contestants are permitted to wear natural makeup and
will be disqualified if any hair piece or slip on veneers are worn. Each of these different pageants
are taken very seriously by its contestants with the goal in mind of winning the crown. Many
contestants will often make drastic or permanent changes, forced by their guardian or parent(s) if
they think they have a better chance of winning. Beauty pageants exist only to judge girls based on
their looks, which can be extremely damaging, both physically and emotionally, therefore beauty
pageants should be prohibited around the world to help end the constant discrimination and unreal
expectations of women and young girls.

Endocrine Extraordinary Sample
Sample A0
The urine sample provided was clear and yellow with no frothing indicating that there was little
or no protein in the urine. The sample contained no cells or crystals but did contain a small
number of hyaline casts. The lack of cells indicates the filtration membrane is at least partially
intact, the casts are not necessarily associated with pathology and are more likely due to exercise
or dehydration although can be due to renal failure (Serafini Cessi, Malagolini and Cavallone
2003). Dehydration and exercise decrease the urine output due to vasoconstriction of the renal
arteries, stimulating the release of Tamm Horsfall protein to help protect against calcium
crystallisation and UTIs (Serafini Cessi, Malagolini and Cavallone 2003). ... Show more content on

We were told the patient had oliguria which is low urine output, the patient passed 100ml in 24
hours which is well below the normal 750ml. This indicates some serious damage somewhere in the
genitourinary system but this does necessarily indicate a kidney prognosis and could be due to
other organ pathologies which cause low urine output such as prostatitis or a UTI (Klahr and
Miller 1998). Microscopic analysis of the urine revealed high numbers of red blood cells both burst
and intact and red blood cell casts but no crystals. This is evidence for damage to the kidneys as
bleeding further down the urinary tract e.g. the bladder would be less likely to result in burst
cells in the urine plus the formation of red blood cell casts is an indicator of glomerular damage
such as inflammation (Sigala, Biava and Hulter 1978). The dipstick confirmed the presence of
protein at 30mg/dL and also showed there were 250 ERY/uL with normal glucose levels. While
the protein level is not that high, the number of red blood cells is huge, this is a clear indicator
of glomerular damage as the filtration membrane is clearly not functional, as there are blood cells
in the urine, the fenestrated endothelium is likely damaged. The GFR of 20 ml/min/1.73m2 is
extremely low, indicating severely decreased function (Medsci 301 Course Guide 2015), providing
further evidence for damage to the glomerulus as this is where filtration occurs. When observing
the photomicrographs, the glomeruli are hard to see amongst large amounts of hyaline material,
there is clearly an exudate in capsular space and there are large numbers of inflammatory cells. All
these factors point to inflammation as the cause of the damage as this would cause the deposition
of the hyaline material, lead to the exudate as vascular permeability is increased and also lead to the
infiltration of immune cells into the reactive tissue.

Surveillance Cameras Should Be Public Places
Surveillance Cameras Earlier this year my brother and I were hit by a white Ford truck, while
riding to school. The driver of the truck quickly sped off immediately after the accident, leaving
us scared, and confused and the car totaled. If only there was a surveillance camera that could
have witnessed it. The camera could have got a clear view of his license plate, or even him.
More surveillance cameras should be installed in public places because they are useful for
catching criminals, protecting people, and growing the economy. Every day there are property
crimes, assault crimes personal crimes and if there is a way to benefit the safety the citizens it
should be taken advantage of. First, the more surveillance cameras that are in an area the lower the
rate of the criminal participating in criminal activity (Brown). Research shows that surveillance
cameras are not as effective in all locations and crimes, but there is evidence that they decrease
property crimerates (Brown). There are already surveillance cameras at most stop lights and in
most stores to capture images of people in case someone breaks the law, but if there were more
surveillance in public places it would be easier to catch crimes other than just someone running a
red light or shoplifting. For example, if a child was kidnapped, the police would already have
video evidence of the kidnapper. This would make it easier to identify the person. Overall, more
surveillance would make police investigations

A German family with young (pre school) children is moving to London for work (with a bank in
The City) for a period of at least two years. Explain the options of where they might live and make
a recommendation.
Situation:
From an Estate Agent s view, what is the best advice to give a banker s family moving to London
for a limited time only?
Introduction

As a German family moves to London for work with a bank in The City, they ask for advice on
how and where to live in London.
From an estate agent s view, this report looks into the
London housing market, presents advantages and disadvantages to investment options and
recommends a property for the family.
I.The Family

The father is Frank Schmidt, 38 years old and working as a banker. He earns an annual income of
GBP 280,000.00 and works 38 hours per week plus overtime.
His wife, Corinna Schmidt, 36
years old, is the mother of the two children and self employed as a sales agent. She works
approximately 15 hours per week and earns about GBP 20,000.00 per year.
Their children are
Lea Schmidt, 6 years old and Lucas Schmidt, 4 years old, both in preschool.
i.Requirements The family moves to London because the father was offered a job with a bank in
The City. Therefore, public transportation should be nearby and a good traffic connection from their
home to The City is required.
Also, a school and preschool are needed close to their abode
because they will stay in London for at least two years.

A Research Study On Synthetic Biology
2.1Fundamental research
Synthetic biology has a lot to offer in fundamental research. Starting from the most well
characterised laboratory organism, E.coli, we are still in half way from full knowledge of
understanding the function of all its genes as the functions of 20% of them are still to be identified
(Keseler et al., 2011). Moreover there are many more other microorganisms with great importance
which are even less well understood.
Synthetic biology provides the ability to make specific modifications to the genome of a model
organism and to use this as a tool to study and understand the fundamental biological processes of
microorganisms, plants and animals and apply this knowledge to create novel products. One of the
major application is that these findings will expand the biological repertoire available for the
designing of new genetic pathways, proteins and cells to manipulate biological reactions that
normally occur. The current ambition is to create a database of shared standardised parts that will
be used to manipulate DNA. An example is the BioBricks Foundation which provides open access
to DNA sequences for cloning and expression of different nucleic acids and proteins. The
information that BioBricks provides, is shared through iGEM the annual international competition
to students from across the world who want to do research and give solutions to real world
problems, such as environmental pollution. (Synthetic Biology: opportunities for Scotland, 2014)

The heritage of the Conquista, the conquest of Middle and South America by the Spanish presents
itself nowadays mostly in a culinary fashion: cocoa, chocolate, corn, tomatoes. Albeit living in a
global age, lesser known and little researched is the music origination in the New World; music that
interlinks the cultures of three continents. Beside the less pleasant actions undertaken by both the
European clerical and secular subjugators, it was also the conquistadores that brought musicalong
with them from the old continent. This music quickly spread throughout the colonies and
settlements. Exposed to local influences, the music was soon shaped to please the local ear. After
all, when the Dominican and the Jesuit missionaries took off to preach the gospel, music was one
of their most important messengers. Most notably in Mexico, Bolivia and Peru, a breathtaking
wealth of music has been written in the 17th and 18th century. Even though we are not to forget the

Major John Andre, Harriet Tubman, Julia Child, And James Bond
Major John AndrГ©, Harriet Tubman, Julia Child, and James Bond. What do these people all
have in common? They were all spies. Major John AndrГ© worked for the British during the
American Revolution, relaying important information back to England (Bhatt). Harriet
Tubman worked for the Yankees, helping slaves escape during the Civil War. Julia Child
handled many classified documents during World War II, including papers about the invasion
of the Malay Peninsula ( A Look Back... Julia Child... ). And, of course, there s James Bond, the
greatest fictional spy in literature. This essay will explore the significance of the OSS, brief
biographies of influential female spies in World War II, and the tactics used in World War II.
So, what exactly is a spy? Merriam Webster defines one as a person employed by one nation to
secretly convey classified information of strategic importance to another nation ( Spy ). In other
words, a spy is someone who looks for secrets and/or plans of one country to give to the country
in which their loyalties lie. This definition well describes spies in World War II. During World War
II, spies and espionagebecame more prominent. This time period marks the beginning of a kind of
background espionage, meaning an emphasis on decoding and looking into the media for hidden
messages rather than primarily going into enemy territory and eavesdropping or sneaking around.
This was also when women, specifically in America and England, obtained the opportunity to

The Invisible Spotlight By Craig Wasserman And Doug Katz
Analyses of the Book: The Invisible Spotlight by Craig Wasserman and Doug Katz
General Characteristics
In the book The Invisible Spotlight, Craig Wasserman and Doug Katz write that all managers work
in the danger of an invisible spotlight, where actions are scrutinized by their own employees. What
is more fascinating, the managers do not even suspect this is really happening. Consequently, future
leaders underestimate the influence of the particular events that are in the core of the structure of
the business. The book is easy to read and understand, as Wasserman and Katz present their own
examples, which make the ideas clearer. The unrevealed spotlight of their weaknesses and strengths
are revealed in the book. Every single situation may be found in the realities of management.
The book The Invisible Spotlight suggests an innovative and practical way of providing new level
management in a company. The examples used by the authors to illustrate their theories are vivid,
comprehensive, and tricky. The basic points discussed within the book are: the management s role
and behavior; stress as a motivator for managers, if only implemented correctly; and recognition as
important for managerial skills.
Main Points of the Book
Among the things that this book have taught me is the necessity to encourage workers. If
management is treated as an art, it should be an accurate art of respect and recognition. This way,
the employees will be effectively organized. The qualities of sense,

The Importance Of The Protestant Reformation
When I think of the Protestant Reformation, the first thing that comes to mind is the
Augsburg Confession. The protestant reformation can be defined as the 16th century religious,
political, intellectual and cultural upheaval that splintered Catholic Europe, setting in place the
structures and beliefs that would define the continent in the modern era. The augsburg confession is
the foremost confession of faith for the Lutheran Church. It was written by Phillip Melanchton and
presented to Charles V on June 25, 1530. The main goal of this confession was to restore religious
and political unity. There are also many reasons why the augsburg confession ties into this and
reveals its importance throughout history.
There are 28 articles included in the confession but we are going to focus on the first four: God, the
original sin, Christ and justification. The first article that the augsburg confession reveals is God.
The church was a major component to the way of life in this era, so they had copious amounts of
control over people and the consequences based on betrayal. The churches were based on catholic
views and the aspects of their beliefs could be supplemented by leaders that wanted to extend their
power and control the church. The goal of the protestant reformation was to change those views that
the churches were claiming to be the right way to do things. In the augsburg confession it outlines
the importance of God saying that he is eternal, without body, without parts...

Health Between Urinary Bpa Levels And Increased Body Mass
2.3Adverse effects
2.3.1 Obesity
Several studies indicate that there is an association between urinary BPA levels and increased
body mass in children and adolescents. In a cross sectional analysis , a nationally representative
subsample of 2838 participants aged from 6 to 19 year old were randomly selected, and their
urinary BPA concentration and body mass index(BMI) were measured. They found that the urinary
BPA concentration were significantly associated with obesity in participants, while obesity was not
associated with exposed to other environmental phenols in other commonly used consumer
products, such as soaps and sunscreens (Trasande et al. 2012). Another cross sectional study
conducted in China was also with the aim to investigate the association between BPA exposure
and BMI. Multiple linear regression analyses showed that urine BPA concentrations were
significantly correlated with increasing BMI in school children (Wang et al. 2012a). In addition,
there is also epidemiological evidence that an increased urine BPA concentration is associated
with obesity in adults. Wang et al. (2012b) conducted another cross sectional study based on a
sample of 3390 Chinese adults with age 40 years or older. They found there is a positive
correlation between urinary BPA concentration and generalized obesity as well as abdominal
obesity in adults.

In animal experiments, there is evidence that the offsprings of pregnant mice treated with BPA

U.s. Military s Security
The 21st century came accompanied by different worldwide security s challenges. In this complex
environment the U.S. must be able to use efficiently all instruments of power to defend the national
interests. Now than ever the U.S. military power must be prepared to defeat the enemy using air,
land, and sea. Thus, the transition of troops from the sea to the shore will remain an essential way
to achieve a position of advantage over the forces hostile to U.S. interests. Frequent concerns of

Finally, the Marines Corps effort to improve amphibious capabilities instead to be seen as a way
to develop the U.S. ability to project power, it is seen as another method to preserve the service s
relevance.
At the same time, the request of American citizens for zero casualties is playing its separate role in
the detriment of amphibious warfare. The history of 20th century showed that amphibious assault is
typically a very difficult and risky operation, it is governed by a violent character that bring a high
casualties rate. Moreover, in our day, when achievement of surprise during landing is almost
impossible due to enemy s intelligence capabilities, and when enemy has sophisticated weapon
systems, to go ashore became much more dangerous. The fear of commanders for potential
personnel and equipment loses conditions the exclusion of amphibious operations from the list of
preferable options.
Another factor that has affected the development of amphibious operations is the reduction of
defense budget. The Marine Corps along with other services has managed the reduction in funding
by cutting capacities. Many procurement programs, capabilities, and force structures were under
severe examination. The fiscally restrained environment associated with the questioned relevance of
amphibious operations hit severely amphibious forces that are

Bird And Magic Johnson In The Myth Of The Amateurs
In Yago ColГЎs s The Myth of the Amateurs, he explores the fascinating racial dynamic the
pairing of Larry Bird and Magic Johnson represented. On the surface, this white and black pair was
worlds apart, as ColГЎs pointed out the shy and reserved Bird was praised...for his effort,
concentration, guts, and unselfishness (89), compared to the outgoing and perpetually smiling,
Johnson, who became the embodiment of Showtime (90). However, Bird and Johnson weren t

summarized by Billy Hoyle, the main protagonist of the film: A white man wants to win, then
look good. A black man wants to look good, then win (1:10:50). On the surface, his claim is not too
far fetched. Although we see Billy s fair share of flashy plays, like no look backwards passes

Cannonball Moment In Life
A cannonball moment. A moment that knocks you down, but shifts your life s direction and makes
you realize something special. Growing up as a child, my grandfather was much more than a

Role Of Public Health In The 21st Century
The 21st Century has seen the healthcare system struggle with challenges such as an increase in
chronic conditions, an increase in government spending on public health, and emerging threats
such as global health security and antibiotic resistance. On the positive side, more people have
gained access to care. To deal with these emerging issues as well as existing challenges, we need
an effective public health workforce. The public health has the role of protecting the health of
citizens. This could be through health promotion and lobbying for increased access to care. To
address the problem of the rise in chronic ailments, public health has a role of creating awareness on
chronic conditions, their symptoms and management. This is because these conditions are
expensive to treat and drain the resources of patients and their families. Public health should
therefore educate the public on the importance of screening and conduct these screening services
for early diagnosis and prevention of chronic diseases. Another role of public health in the 21st
Centuryis to provide and use evidence based practice in providing clinical services. This would
help in addressing some of the emerging challenges such as antibiotic resistance.

Airline Deregulation
On October 24, 1978, President Carter signed into law the Airline Deregulation Act. The purpose
of the law was to effectively get the federal government out of the airline business. By allowing the
airlines to compete for their customers travel dollars, was the thinking, that fares would drop and an
increased number of routes would spring up.
Expected Results
The results of airline deregulation speak for themselves. Since the government got out of the
airline business, not only has there been a drop in prices and an increase in routes, there has also
been a remarkable increase in airline service and safety. Airline deregulation should be seen as the
crowning jewel of a federal de regulatory emphasis. Prices are down: Airline ... Show more content

But the legislation winding its way through the legislative maze that is Congress does anything but
move towards increased privatization. S. 1331, sponsored by Senator John McCain (R AZ), would
make it more difficult for large carriers to offer low fares. The justification for this action it to make
entry into the market easier, and therefore increase competitiveness within the industry. But while
this may enable small airlines to enter markets, it essentially creates an affirmative action program
for corporations that are inefficient by reserving runway space for these airlines.
The only good language in the Senate bill is that which would eliminate perimeter restrictions on
Washington s Ronald Reagan Airport. This would kill the rule that prevents flights to and from
National from more than 1250 miles away. While this may just be a measure so that Congressmen
won t have to drive to the out of town Dulles Airport in Virginia, it is a good precedent to set for
other airports and the elimination of market restrictions.
The House has a companion bill, H.R. 2748, which does not go as far as the Senate bill in its
regulatory language. But Speaker Newt Gingrich (R GA) has predicted that Congress will pass
some airline bill this term. A senior aide for a Republican on the House Transportation and
Infrastructure Committee said, I don t know if the two sides will come together this year.
So the legislative status of the

  • 2. Narcotics Anonymous Meeting Analysis Through my observations of the Narcotics Anonymous meeting I believe that my analysis could be beneficial to the realm of medicine. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2014) released a study that displayed, health care providers wrote 259 million prescriptions for painkillers in 2012, enough for every American adult to have a bottle of pills. Considering the mass amount of prescriptions being written nationwide, it is not surprising that one of the members in the NA meeting I attended was able to easily obtain painkillers from her doctor. The specific interaction I encountered during the Narcotics Anonymous meeting where the woman described that her addiction was being supported by the constant prescriptions written by her doctor... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The word epidemic itself spreads fear throughout society, however fluctuations in drug use are considered epidemics, which may not instill fear into the general public. Due to the fact that the CDC considers opioid overdose as a national epidemic, it may be confused to what this epidemic entails. This is not saying that the misuse and rising overdoses due to opioid painkillers is not a serious problem, it just may render the severity of the problem. In addition, because the CDC does consider the rise of overdoses due to painkillers an epidemic, the access to treatment needs to be more widely available. Through one of the interactions I had during my time at the NA meeting, I was able to understand that many people feel as though they do not or did not have access to help. Dan Mangan (2016), writes, [a] survey released Tuesday by the Kaiser Family Foundation also found that a large majority of Americans believe that lack of access to care for people suffering from substance abuse is a problem in the United States. In this, those who work in medicine should take from my supporting observations and numerous studies that access to recovery programs need to become more widely available. If the United States is going to consider the use of opioid painkillers as an epidemic, action needs to be taken to assist addicts and educate the nation on the effects of these ... • 3. Who Killed Benny Paret Millions of people worldwide take part as spectators to the sport of prize fighting: better known as boxing. In a 1962 essay entitled Who Killed Benny Paret? the author, Norman Cousins, writes about the dangers that come with the sport of boxing. He especially talks about a match that resulted in the death of a boxer named Benny Paret. Cousins argues that boxingis just a show of violence and that boxers put themselves in the ring just for the simple purpose of entertaining a crowd. Even though investigations reflect the role of the referee, Paret s manager, and the doctor s examinations as the main cause of Paret s death, Cousins blames Paret s death on the people that attends boxing matches to see a man get hurt or knockoutbecause he... Boxers sometimes face the challenge of defeating their opponent for many reasons. Those reasons could be to prove they can win, to earn money and to not disappoint or lead down fans and beaters. Many boxers choose boxing because they are good at it and it s a way of earning money, just like Benny Paret. Boxing is a dangerous sport since every boxer become badly hurt and ill at the end of every match. Most boxers suffer from brain damages as a result of many hits in the head. Cousins explains that Benny Paret was killed because of a massive hemorrhage in the brain, caused by an impact directed against the head (par. 7) Cousins also wrote Not every blow to the head will kill a man but there is always the risk of concussion and damage to the brain (par. 7). Fighters that survive repeated concussions still go and fight, but the problem here is that the damage in the brain may be permanent. Sometimes boxers should consider their health problems before fighting again. The viewers are the main encouragement for boxers to keep fighting or to fight harder. They don t come out to see a tee party, said Mike Jacobs evenly. They come out to see the knockout. They come out to see a man hurt. Although there is an understandable degree of variation among the scholars and practitioners about the composition of an MBO program, they all appear to agree on the following guidelines: * Superiors and subordinates meet and discuss goals for the subordinates that are in line with organizational goals. * The superior and subordinate jointly establish goals for the subordinate. * The superior and the subordinate meet again after establishing the initial goals and evaluate the subordinate s performance in terms of these goals. Conceptually, MBO is the ultimate in participative management, since a subordinate can help establish personal objectives for their job, help determine the measurements used in evaluating performance, and receive constant feedback on progress. On the surface MBO restates the obvious. For example, Isaiah (46:11) writes: I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it. • 5. Pathophysiology Of Diabetes Mellitus And Mellitus Diabetes Mellitus Nathalie Dao Med 2056 VN FT030 Diabetes Mellitus Research Paper Ms. Annabelle Anglo 3/16/2015 EXPLANATION OF PATHOPHYSIOLOGY The pathophysiology of the two types of Diabetes Mellitus are described by Schilling (2010). Type 1 Non Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus starts with a viral infection or other triggering condition that forms antibodies that destroy the beta cells within the pancreas. This causes the pancreas production of insulin to drop over time. Initially, the body uses the insulin that was already produced, but as the insulin decreases, the cells within the body are not able to receive and use the glucose. The sugar remains in the bloodstream after digestion and the negative effects of hyperglycemia become more damaging. With Type 1, about 90% or the beta cells are killed by the antibodies. Type 2 Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease caused by one or more of the following three factors. Impaired insulin production within the pancreas, so the body does not have enough to move the glucose into the tissues and cells. Incorrect glucose production in the liver. The cells resist the insulin, so it cannot attach to the correct receptors. SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF DIABETES MELLITUS, according to the American Diabetes Association (2015) the most basic symptoms of Type 1 and Type 2 DM are: The three P s пѓ Polyuria Urinating often and having to urinate frequently at night пѓ Polydipsia Always feeling very ... • 7. Independent Music s Influence On The Development Of... INTRODUCTION This essay will be looking at Independent music in relation to the categorisation of distribution and production. It will also discuss the impact with regard to the development of musical performances and production. Originally, Independent music referred to bands or artists who performed and/or produced music autonomously and without the commercial rules and restrictions associated with major record labels (Hale, 2014). Throughout the years Independent music has evolved into a broader meaning that is harder to define. Today, the term Indie is used to describe a genre of music and is often used as a prefix to another genre such as Indie Rock and Indie Folk. So what is Indie music? And how did Indie evolve to become a genre? BRIEF HISTORY OF EARLY INDEPENDENT RECORD LABELS Independent record labels have been around since music started being recorded (King, 2012, p.13). Created by fanatics with a passion for music, the recording and production process was often self funded and the purpose was to nurture talent and creativity. Most of the major record companies we know today would have once started in this manner (King, 2012). As far back as 1917 independent record labels were recording early Blues and Jazz music. In 1920 following the end of World War 1 (WW1), Brunswick became known as the biggest independent label in the USA. Due to financial problems, Brunswick went into receivership in 1930 and was bought out by Warner Brothers who are still one of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Eleven years ago, when I was two and a half years old, I went to to the University of Chicago Autism Center with my mom and my grandma Susan. I was getting evaluated for Autism, and I came out with a report that I had Severe Moderate Autism, and the language of an eighteen month old. In July or August 2006, I was throwing a HUGE tantrum, it was also the day my mom and my grandma brought me to the doctor. I was still screaming and crying at the doctor s office, and the doctor said something that changed both my mom and my grandma s life forever. Excuse me?! my mom yelled angrily. My mom wasn t pleased at all. She made a comeback by defending me, saying that My daughter has Autism! And I know she can grow up to be a very normal person, like her peers, like everyone else! She does NOT need to go to an institution! We re also never ever coming back again! We left, never coming back again. Kim, she s never going to speak. said my grandma. You tried 2 years to get her to speak. Oh yes she will! snapped my mom, carrying a failing toddler in her arms. I seemed like a normal child, but the only problem was that still couldn t speak, not a word, not at all. So I had to throw fits to communicate my feelings and needs. • 9. 1984 Dystopia Analysis The idea of a utopia sounds like a great idea, however it always turns into a feared dystopia. This is exactly what happens in the novel, 1984 and in the notorious group, The Ku Klux Klan. The definition of Utopia is an imaginary and indefinitely remote place (Utopia). The illusion these groups create never end up being utopias and eventually becomes a dystopia. The definition of dystopia is an imaginary place where people lead dehumanized and often fearful lives (Dystopia). The KKK and Oceania are perfect examples of a falsified utopias that are simply dystopias. In the book, 1984 written by George Orwell, Big Brother makes the illusion of a utopia via the uses of doublespeak, propaganda and, brainwashing. In Oceania, Big Brother convinces the citizens that they live in a utopian world while they are really living in a dystopia. Big Brother makes everything seem better by saying that it is better. In the novel, Big Brother decreases the chocolate rations but tells everyone seem that it is increased. It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty four hours? • 10. How Does The Crucifixion In The Dream Of The Rood In The Dream of the Rood, an Anglo Saxon poem written in the early Middle Ages, Christ s death and burial is described in a manner which is startlingly different from the original biblical accounts. In order to highlight the important victory of the crucifixion, the poet of The Dream of the Rood describes Christ as an aggressive warrior who boldly confronts and defeats sin. This description is constant with the honor and courage so highly valued in the early medieval culture. The words used to describe Christ s approach to the crucifixionin The Dream of the Rood reveal the poet s conscious choice to portray Jesusas a purposeful courageous warrior: Then the young hero (who was God Almighty) Got ready, resolute and strong in heart. ...the warrior embraced [the cross]. Instead of simply using the word Christ, the poet calls Jesus the young hero and the warrior. The poet also presents a warrior like image of Christ by portraying Jesus exuberantly preparing for combat rather than being lead passively to the cross. Where the Bible ... This small difference between these two accounts is important because the poet of The Dream of the Rood does not suggest that Jesus gently give up his spirit, but rather that he forcefully and willfully ended his life, in complete control of the situation until the end. Just as The Dream of the Rood poet omits details in the biblical accounts of the crucifixion that imply Jesus was a passive participant in his death, he or she de emphasizes the disgrace, humiliation, and indignity of Christ s position. The teacher will use direct observation of the behavior to evaluate the children s understanding of the skill (Miller Stoeckel, 2016, p. 321). Direct observation is done by using the senses to observe the children (Miller Stoeckel, 2016, p. 321). Then a rubric will be used to record the observation and how well the children did. Data is being collected by visually watching and keeping track of how many children learned how to cough and sneeze during the exercise. At the end we will have each kid show us and we can record the amount that learned all the steps. Data is also being collected by directly questioning the children to assess what they have learned. 3)How will you analyze your evaluation data? I will analyze my data by looking to see if 75 % of the class successful learned how to cough and sneeze properly. I will do the same for cold and flu symptoms and for handwashing techniques. In the passage on page 55, the metaphor referring to the therapy meeting as bunch of chickens at a peckin party uses an animal motif to further emphasize the inhuman way Big Nurse retains control. The alliteration peckin party and blood and bones (Kesey, 55) underscores the seriousness of the meeting. Miss Ratched puts up a pleasant facade giving the illusion that her motives are for the greater good of her patients. Why, friend, that s most unlikely (57). Miss Ratched s job is to keep order in the ward at all costs. She does not act out of pure obligation to do her job well, but enforces her authority even at the expense of the patient s progress. Miss Ratched s treatment of Billy is proof of how she casts aside patient s advancement and wellbeing to ensure strict adherence to the rules. • 13. The Use of Imagery in The Princess Bride by William Goldman In The Princess Bride by William Goldman there is a love so strong not even death can take it away. When you think of a princess you may picture a girl with a lavish dress on and a crown full of jewels on top of her head, but not in William Goldman s The Princess Bride. The readers encounter just a regular girl from a family that was never royalty, and who is always thinking of her one true love who was once thought dead. The use of Imagery is seen in William Goldman s The Princess Bride when the author tells about when he did not like to read, The Zoo of Death, and The Cliffs of Insanity. When readers read a story written by an author they will usually think that the author likes to read books and is what led the author to writing a book. William Goldman said, As a child, I had no Interest in reading (Goldman 3), this can lead readers to imagining the author as a young child rather than an adult not wanting to read a book. When Readers imagine the author as a young child the image imagined can give a better sense of how the author felt as a young child. The imagination of a child giving the reader a picture to think about is less complex than that of a adult giving a reader a picture to think about. The Zoo is ever child s dream of seeing strange animals that they have never seen before, but this zoo is like no other. It was kept with things he could hunt, and it really wasn t like any animal sanctuary (Goldman 60). The zoo of Death as the zoo is called is full of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rapa Nui And The Statue Of Easter Island Easter Island was one of the last places on the Earth colonized by humans, representing the culmination of the journey that people started when they left Africa. The history of this isolated Pacific Ocean island offers many lessons about humanity, and a better understanding of this mysterious place could help us build a better future. Jared Diamond, in an article from Discover Magazine, expresses the theory of individuals going to take after what occurred with Easter Island. In a short period of time, the people of Easter Island cut their forest, got their plants and animals to extinction, and created chaos and cannibalism. The most important factor, according to Diamond, is the reaction of society to ecological change. There is something more significant about this island with two names, excepting the fact that the archipelago is in the middle of the ocean and has volcanoes, found all over the small island are statues of enormous heads. Researchers have identified 887 of these giant head statues. The statues are named Moai. The ancient Rapa Nui people carved these statues out of volcanic rocks. Over time, the researchers have launched various assumptions about the mysterious purpose of the Rapa Nui statue. Some have argued that these are the artistic representations of some gods, others have launched fantastic theories that they were inspired by aliens. The clues that allowed this mystery to come loose came from the language spoken on Rapa Nui. Scientists have long believed that the inhabitants of the Easter Island have... • 15. Public Education System Introduction Hook Background I think that there are many things that we in America can do to fix our education system but to go over two generalized topics we must reevaluate our teachers and how we work our system in general. These two are the most important factors besides the students , and teachers directly affect those so I m going to start there. Of all the important things for teachers to do is to teach and to make students get into the things that they re learning. That usually doesn t happen as most of the good and enthusiastic teachers are in rich schools and the teachers that are under qualified and do not care about students get put at the schools that are underfunded. Going along with that , we also put way too much money into the military , thus taking away crucial funds that should go to the education system. Instead of letting incompetent presidents chose incompetent cabinet members we should allow the people to vote ,as we do with any other elected position. It would allow us to choose the right Leader for the job and not one who wants to make it harder for underprivileged children and young adults to get the education that they deserve. Another thing we should do to make the Education system better you to start focusing more on making the education system one that values learning over test scores. Some school districts are already doing that as they are switching over to project based learning from text based. It removes the proverbial shackles of the dreaded end of the year test from students who already hate it enough as it is. OctavianВ№s government was strong enough to withstand weak emperors who mismanaged the Empire. His changes proved to be the cornerstone of the greatest empire the world has ever seen. • 34. Rmk Influence On German Culture With this concept in mind, the Kampfbund fГјr deutsche Kultur, or the Militant League for German Culture, was created in 1929. Originally headed by Alfred Rosenburg, the Nazis took over the institution when Hitler rose to power and it became known as the Reichskulturkammer in 1933. The RKK was created to combat cultural influence that did not further Germanness . A division of the RKK became known as the Reichsmusikammer, or the RMK, that was used to censor music all throughout Germany. The only problem with the RMK was that it was entirely run by men with almost no musical background. It can be agreed that all Germans were very fond of music and its impact on the soul, but not all took the time to learn how to create and play music. Both Augustine s Confessions and Montaigne s Essays shed light on the difficulties in achieving self mastery and self knowledge. • 36. Argumentative Essay On Beauty Pageants In 1854 instead of judging woman or young girls on their looks, Phineas Taylor Barnum began judging animals on their looks, this was the first beauty pageant. The first swimsuit competition was held in 1880 at a festival to bring business however, it soon became a summer tradition . Women from all around the world became interested in them, wanting to be seen as the perfect woman. Currently, there are 3 different types of beauty pageants, a glitz pageant consists of the contestants wearing heavy makeup, crystal decorated clothes and wearing slip on veneers. Another type of pageant is named a semi glitz pageant which is very similar to the glitz pageant , except contestants are not allowed to wear any hair pieces or slip on veneers. The third type of pageant is referred to as the natural pageant , contestants are permitted to wear natural makeup and will be disqualified if any hair piece or slip on veneers are worn. Each of these different pageants are taken very seriously by its contestants with the goal in mind of winning the crown. Many contestants will often make drastic or permanent changes, forced by their guardian or parent(s) if they think they have a better chance of winning. Beauty pageants exist only to judge girls based on their looks, which can be extremely damaging, both physically and emotionally, therefore beauty pageants should be prohibited around the world to help end the constant discrimination and unreal expectations of women and young girls. ... The sample contained no cells or crystals but did contain a small number of hyaline casts. The lack of cells indicates the filtration membrane is at least partially intact, the casts are not necessarily associated with pathology and are more likely due to exercise or dehydration although can be due to renal failure (Serafini Cessi, Malagolini and Cavallone 2003). Dehydration and exercise decrease the urine output due to vasoconstriction of the renal arteries, stimulating the release of Tamm Horsfall protein to help protect against calcium crystallisation and UTIs (Serafini Cessi, Malagolini and Cavallone 2003). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We were told the patient had oliguria which is low urine output, the patient passed 100ml in 24 hours which is well below the normal 750ml. This indicates some serious damage somewhere in the genitourinary system but this does necessarily indicate a kidney prognosis and could be due to other organ pathologies which cause low urine output such as prostatitis or a UTI (Klahr and Miller 1998). Microscopic analysis of the urine revealed high numbers of red blood cells both burst and intact and red blood cell casts but no crystals. This is evidence for damage to the kidneys as bleeding further down the urinary tract e.g. the bladder would be less likely to result in burst cells in the urine plus the formation of red blood cell casts is an indicator of glomerular damage such as inflammation (Sigala, Biava and Hulter 1978). The dipstick confirmed the presence of protein at 30mg/dL and also showed there were 250 ERY/uL with normal glucose levels. While the protein level is not that high, the number of red blood cells is huge, this is a clear indicator of glomerular damage as the filtration membrane is clearly not functional, as there are blood cells in the urine, the fenestrated endothelium is likely damaged. The GFR of 20 ml/min/1.73m2 is extremely low, indicating severely decreased function (Medsci 301 Course Guide 2015), providing further evidence for damage to the glomerulus as this is where filtration occurs. When observing the photomicrographs, the glomeruli are hard to see amongst large amounts of hyaline material, there is clearly an exudate in capsular space and there are large numbers of inflammatory cells. All these factors point to inflammation as the cause of the damage as this would cause the deposition of the hyaline material, lead to the exudate as vascular permeability is increased and also lead to the infiltration of immune cells into the reactive tissue. ... Every day there are property crimes, assault crimes personal crimes and if there is a way to benefit the safety the citizens it should be taken advantage of. First, the more surveillance cameras that are in an area the lower the rate of the criminal participating in criminal activity (Brown). Research shows that surveillance cameras are not as effective in all locations and crimes, but there is evidence that they decrease property crimerates (Brown). There are already surveillance cameras at most stop lights and in most stores to capture images of people in case someone breaks the law, but if there were more surveillance in public places it would be easier to catch crimes other than just someone running a red light or shoplifting. • 42. A Research Study On Synthetic Biology 2.1Fundamental research Synthetic biology has a lot to offer in fundamental research. Starting from the most well characterised laboratory organism, E.coli, we are still in half way from full knowledge of understanding the function of all its genes as the functions of 20% of them are still to be identified (Keseler et al., 2011). Moreover there are many more other microorganisms with great importance which are even less well understood. Synthetic biology provides the ability to make specific modifications to the genome of a model organism and to use this as a tool to study and understand the fundamental biological processes of microorganisms, plants and animals and apply this knowledge to create novel products. One of the major application is that these findings will expand the biological repertoire available for the designing of new genetic pathways, proteins and cells to manipulate biological reactions that normally occur. The current ambition is to create a database of shared standardised parts that will be used to manipulate DNA. An example is the BioBricks Foundation which provides open access to DNA sequences for cloning and expression of different nucleic acids and proteins. What is more fascinating, the managers do not even suspect this is really happening. Consequently, future leaders underestimate the influence of the particular events that are in the core of the structure of the business. The book is easy to read and understand, as Wasserman and Katz present their own examples, which make the ideas clearer. The unrevealed spotlight of their weaknesses and strengths are revealed in the book. Every single situation may be found in the realities of management. The book The Invisible Spotlight suggests an innovative and practical way of providing new level management in a company. The examples used by the authors to illustrate their theories are vivid, comprehensive, and tricky. The basic points discussed within the book are: the management s role and behavior; stress as a motivator for managers, if only implemented correctly; and recognition as important for managerial skills. The protestant reformation can be defined as the 16th century religious, political, intellectual and cultural upheaval that splintered Catholic Europe, setting in place the structures and beliefs that would define the continent in the modern era. The augsburg confession is the foremost confession of faith for the Lutheran Church. It was written by Phillip Melanchton and presented to Charles V on June 25, 1530. The main goal of this confession was to restore religious and political unity. There are also many reasons why the augsburg confession ties into this and reveals its importance throughout history. There are 28 articles included in the confession but we are going to focus on the first four: God, the original sin, Christ and justification. The first article that the augsburg confession reveals is God. The church was a major component to the way of life in this era, so they had copious amounts of control over people and the consequences based on betrayal. The churches were based on catholic views and the aspects of their beliefs could be supplemented by leaders that wanted to extend their power and control the church. Role Of Public Health In The 21st Century The 21st Century has seen the healthcare system struggle with challenges such as an increase in chronic conditions, an increase in government spending on public health, and emerging threats such as global health security and antibiotic resistance. On the positive side, more people have gained access to care. To deal with these emerging issues as well as existing challenges, we need an effective public health workforce. The public health has the role of protecting the health of citizens. This could be through health promotion and lobbying for increased access to care. To address the problem of the rise in chronic ailments, public health has a role of creating awareness on chronic conditions, their symptoms and management. This is because these conditions are expensive to treat and drain the resources of patients and their families. Public health should therefore educate the public on the importance of screening and conduct these screening services for early diagnosis and prevention of chronic diseases.
