The Drug Of Prescription Drugs
As the NFL grows in infamy from their many concussion scandals, the misusing of prescription
drugs is overshadowed, but still remains as a major issue in the NFL. A huge problem facing
the NFL today is the ill advised use of painkillers as it affects former players and current players
alike. If nothing is done to stop this dilemma, players will continue to be affected by the
accoutrements of painkillers. Only through DEA investigations, increased restrictions on
prescription drugs, and increased monitoring of player s mental health, will we end the epidemic
of the misuse of painkillers in the NFL. Background of the Problem As NFL players continue their
careers, they become household names that people start to look up to as role models.... Show more

With injuries plaguing the NFL, team doctors are able to use drugs such as prescription
painkillers to allow players to play through pain. NFL team doctors are able to to receive and
distribute illegal painkillers with ease. In a Vice Sports article about the suppliers of the NFL s
painkiller addiction, Aaron Gordon states, SportPharm,...from at least June of 2009 to June of
2010, illegally provided prescription drugs to 81 team doctors across American college and
professional sports (Gordon, 2014, para. 2). Many NFL team doctors claim that they did not
know about the illegal drugs and that they only use these companies for their systems of
business. Gordon expresses that in a U T San Diego report written by Michael Lipman, NFL
teams are not only using SportPharm, an unlicensed California Pharmacy, for their convenient
tracking system, but for the buying of massive quantities of painkillers. These painkillers end up
in the hands of the players who have the potential of misusing them from their intended use
which can destroy their lives. One cause of professional football player s painkiller addictions is
that Doctors feel pushed to have the players continue playing. Some doctors believe that if they
do not load up their players with heavy drugs to be able to play, they will be let go from their

DAVID JONES 8th October 09 Strategic Recommendations Report 08 Fall Executive Summary The
Australian retail industry is experiencing significant changes in both macro and industry
environments. Companies are required to improve customer service quality to retain customers as
rivalry for customers is increasing due to the rising amount of online retailers. To meet this
challenge, David Jones should expand into online retailing. Building customer loyalty will
determine the viability of the transformation into a successful e commerce company. Additionally,
identification of stakeholders and their requirements are crucial in major organisational changes. To

Additionally, the increasing overseas migration from Asia (Australian government 2009) will have
an impact on consumer behaviour. These demographic groups have higher spending patterns and
higher preference for branded products, and hence potentially increasing the market for high quality
products (Australian Government 2009). Australia lacks an international image as a major tourism
shopping destination, as compared to Hong Kong or Singapore, that have successfully positioned
themselves as central shopping and retail destinations in Asia (Folk 2009). Additionally, the
geographic distance from Asia reduces tourism shopping in Australia. The rise in protectionism
around the world may negatively impact David Jones performance due to increasing prices (Kemp
2009). 2.2.Industry Environment Industry characteristics| High capital requirement and specialised

Improper And Inadequate Development Of Water Resources Essay
The improper and inadequate development of water resources in poor countries is causing
damage to the essential ecosystem as well as greatly affecting the condition of the environment.
The water being collected and the water that is released back to the ecosystem are not even
comparable in any sense. The lack of treatment leading to increased release of harmful
contaminants directly into the rivers is clearly interrupting the ecosystem (Molden November
2012). Many from other rural areas are constantly migrating to the big cities to gain access to
fresh water and causing rapid urbanization, which is in turn becoming an even bigger threat to
the ecosystem. Under these situations, the economic condition of the Global South cannot be
improved, as this will be a continuous fight to remain on top. Thus a sustainable developmental
plan is necessary to gain back the control over fresh water. The paper will discuss a few major
issues with water and the environment, and try to suggest ways to improve the conditions for a
better future both environmentally and economically in the global south. Water and Economy
The seventh UN Secretary General Kofi Annan in 2001 said fierce competition for fresh water
may well become a source for conflict and wars in the future . While the World Economic Forum
listed water supply crisis as a top item in the list of global risks. A rapidly developing nation like
China is ample proof of this fact, where they lose $15 billion every year due to reduction

How We Connect Makes All The Difference Summary
What Is a Healthy Self ? Adolescents who are able to learn and develop, and then determine who
they are for themselves often reflect a healthier sense of self. Children who strive to be who their
parents or others who influence them want them to be, often become detached from their internal
sense of selfand do not properly develop. Dr. Levin discusses many disruptors of self development
in children from affluent homes such as constant pressures to adopt a social facile, high levels of
competitiveness, performance oriented praise, and an unblemished reputation. At the same time,
affluent parents tend to over parent, shielding children from every bad thing that can come their
way which affects their sense of self and how to cope with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There are many different parenting styles that help children develop healthy lifestyles. Dr.
Levine focuses this chapter on the authoritarian, permissive and authoritative parents. The
authoritarian parent, or the do as your told parent as stated in the book, focuses on strict rules
for their children. These parents carry a strong because I said so ideology and end up hurting
their kids more than they help. These kids end up with low self esteem and high rates of
depression. The permissive parent, or the do your own thing parent, focus more on a friendship
with their child other than a respectful parent child relationship. These parents have trouble
disciplining their child and don t teach their children correct skills to take responsibility for their
actions. The last parenting style, the authoritative parent, are accepting of their child, but also
have clear rules and expectations. These parents have appropriate discipline while also focusing
on how to better their child. The children of these types of parents have better grades, better
social skills and are all around happier. In this chapter, Dr. Levine also focuses on correct ways to
be accepting and invested in your child and how important it is to praise effort instead of

Random Act Of Kindness Definition
I believe that kindness is a standout amongst the most vital human qualities. I think it is really
nice to do a random act of kindness sometimes, and it can truly change the standpoint of another
person s day. Once I got this assignment about the random act of kindness I was really glad to take
part in a great deal of kind heartedness. It s always good to make yourself a blessing to someone
else. For my random act of kindness, I distributed ice cold bottles of water to men at the race
track who were working on cars in 90 degree weather. I decided this would be the best one for me
to do since I knew it would be hot and the men needed to stay hydrated. My random act of
kindness took place on Sunday September 4, 2016 in Lena, Ms. I bought three

Hate Groups Research Paper
There is so much hate in this world. To add onto that hate, there are many hate groups. The hate
group that I am writing about is the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Another name for this
group is Islamic State in Iraq and Levant (ISIL). ISIS and ISIL are the same group. This group is
made up of Islamic extremists who believe the world should be under Sharia Law. Sharia Law
means, One political and religious leader over all. ISIS has many other beliefs, the qualifications
to belong to this group can be brutal, and the present day hate is awful. This group s roots trace
back to Abu Musab al Zarqawi, a Jordanian who set up Jihad in 2002. A year after the United States
invaded Iraq, Zarqawi pledged allegiance to Osama Bin Laden, and founded Al Qaeda in Iraq.
After Zarqawi s death his followers created an umbrella organization ISI, or Islamic State in Iraq.
In 2003 the Islamic State renamed itself to the Islamic State in Iraq and Levant. Now ISIS is
using propaganda to recruit Westerners to their cause. Most people who are being recruited have
no connection to ISIS, or Syria at all. There is no initiation process to join ISIS. One just has to
be willing to commit acts of terror, and be a cold blooded killer. To be recruited one must find a
Jihadi mentor. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

believes alcohol is abysmal, and will harm or kill anyone under the influence. Everyone in this

It s a Wonderful Life Essay
The movie, It s a Wonderful Life, has the protagonist named George Bailey. In this story line,
God is talking to one of his angels and He tells this angel that his job is to prevent this man from
killing himself and to save him. God then goes and shows this angel part of George s life that
was very significant. In the end, we see George Bailey at present time and we see that he is at
one of his lowest points ever. Throughout the movie, the audience gets to perceive George s
dilemma in life. Since he was a little boy, George has been a good child: always willing to help
others. He saved his brother s life by jumping into icy cold water to prevent him from drowning,
and thus he lost his left ear s hearing; he also prevented his boss,... Show more content on

To me, it really seem idiotic taking my life away for just $8,000, but that is just my perception on
viewing things. Everyone has a different perception upon a subject, and George Bailey is
frustrated and he feels like he has no other option. When people are scared, depressed and mad,
they have a tendency of thinking irrational and therefore make careless choices. George Bailey s
careless choice is wanting to take his life away. Emotion also plays a very significant role in the
movie. When George Bailey s guardian angel makes it so that George was never born, he gets to
see how the people and the town are really affected by his nonexistence. Seeing that his wife
Mary does not have a happy life and that his old boss went to prison for putting drugs in those
capsules that he could have prevented if he was alive, is really emotional to him and he feels
heartbroken. He notices that the once before Bailey Park is now Potterville, and all the decent
houses that were built there are now old slums and people are in poverty due to Mr. Potter s lack
of emotion and kindness. George witnesses all these catastrophic changes and it pains him to see
so much suffering that he could have prevented. George Bailey is a kind man, and his emotional
feelings tell him that in fact he does not want to die. He realizes that whatever problems that he is
having can be fixed and that the world is not coming to an end just for $8,000. Seeing everyone s

Netflix Yunshi Case
I agree with Yunshi s stance on streaming services offering a attractive package that differentiates
themselves from the competition of alternatives such as cable or dish network. Today people
have several avenues to take in gaining access to their daily entertainment. Services have become
more catered to the variety of consumer taste; thus, the old model of packaging ESPN with less
supported programs such as ESPN 3 or 2 are developing into packaging your unique production
programs. I can only watch certain Netflix produced shows on Netflix, therefore, a customer
wanting more of a certain program would be attracted to the diverse options Netflix has opposed to
another streaming service. The options streaming has vs the options television have... Show more

Movie studios have gone to great lengths in stopping pirated movies or channels that distribute
their movies without consent from the producers. Fair use is another tricky subject and many
people are content with snippets of a popular series or are fine with watching an entire visual
novel or listening to an book audio instead of purchasing the novel from a store or website. Thus,
best cost has become more nuanced and allowed for more tricky approaches to attracting
customers with free material that is bundled with priced add on or free material that is kept afloat
with volunteer payments or optional payed bonus extras. For example, a studio may create a
movie and have the ticket be valid for watching in a theater but also later viewing at home. It
dissuades customers from illegally purchasing the movie due to the cost strategy being convenient
and flexible to consumer taste. The strategies are different yet today are being utilized and
evolving with the pressures of new competition along with customer perception. Knowing how to
appeal to a customer s perception of pricing while offering a quality product are the key to
sustaining a proper strategy in our changing

Thernstrom s Argument Analysis
Robert D. Putnam et. al. and Abigail Thernstrom et. al. address affirmative action policies at
colleges and universities as a broader social issue than just an individual getting into the university
in their amicus curiae briefs. Thernstrom submitted her amici brief in favor of the petitioner,
Abigail N. Fisher et. al., and Putnam submits his amici brief in favor of the respondents, The
Universityof Texas et. al. The University of Texas chose not to admit Ms. Fisher, who was then a
high school student. Ms. Fisher then sued the University, arguing that the use of race in
applications and admission decisions to and of the University were discriminatory under the 14th
Amendment s Equal Protection Clause. These amici briefs were submitted... Show more content on

His experience in the classroom and his substantial research into both the positives and negatives of
diversity make his clear, concise arguments are incredibly convincing, especially in regards to his
own university classroom.
Thernstrom, on the other hand, appears to be attempting to make a case for self evidence. Her
arguments, such as minority students getting into universities because of upward ratcheting appear
unsubstantiated. Indeed, her claim that many minority students cannot catch up to other students
itself appears unsubstantiated. Further, because of she argues that many. Her omission of Dr.
Putnam s research when it directly contradicted her arguments further diminishes her amicus curiae
brief.
Affirmative action, and race based admissions standards, are the best way to increase (or
maintain) diversity at institutions of higher learning. In spite of its perceived flaws, it has
increased the diversity at previously all white institutions of higher learning, such as the University
of Texas at Austin, and that diversity has allowed friendships to be formed that otherwise would
not have been, has allowed students to learn from professors they otherwise would never have and
allowed professors to learn from students from a wide variety of

The The Circle is a novel written by an American author, Dave Eggers. The novel revolves

Essay On Achondroplasia
History
Achondroplasia is the most common diagnosis and most frequent form of those who are
considered to be dwarfs ( Learning About , 2016). When one thinks of dwarfism, they think of a
short stature with short arms, legs, and a large head. It occurs in one in every 15,000 to one in
40,000 live births ( Learning About , 2016). According to BBC News (2005), researchers found
that the earliest biological evidence of dwarfs dates back to a Predynastic Period called the
Badarian Period (4500 BC) in addition to several skeletons from the Old Kingdom (2700 2190 BC).

Obesity can be a common factor in achondroplasia and steps to avoid it is recommended to start in
early childhood (Learning About, 2016). If difficulty breathing or sleep apnea has been observed,
there are surgical options to help correct these issues. There are also medical tests to evaluate signs
of spinal cord compression and hypotonia that are recommended (Learning About, 2016). If a
reduced foramen magnum size is observed in medical tests, there may be a need for suboccipital
compression to reduce pressure on the spinal cord (Achondroplasia, n.d.). Middle ear infections are
quite common in accompanying this disease and must be managed accordingly (Achondroplasia,

Analysis Of Holden Caulfield Bildungsroman
Is this novel really a bildungsroman? The Catcher in the Rye by JD the Salinger is a novel that
many consider a bildungsroman, A story with the character grows amateurs. However, for 17
year old Holden Caulfield this is not the case. Holden shows no urge to want to enter adulthood
as he constantly lies about the smallest things, escapes the real world through fantasy and makes
no effort to turn his life around. Holden seems to always feel like he has to create a reality for
himself which makes him a phony, rather than tell the truth and live his own. When Holden meets
Ernest, a boy from school s mother he uses the name Rudolf Schmidt, to escape his life for the

Those who disagree might state that Holden matured when he claims I m standing on the edge

save children is a sign of maturity and Holden actually wanting to enter adulthood to take on this
position. However, while Holden is at the carousel with Phoebe he notices children trying to grab

Methodology The design of the study revolves around three variables including an independent
variable, a dependent variable, and a mediation variable; where the independent variable is the
average number of hours a student studies per week, the dependent variable is the average
restfulness of student s sleep, and the mediating variable is stress reaction. It is hypothesized that
the average number of hours a student studies per week is associated to their positive sleep quality
rating, where the higher number of hours of studying will predict a lower positive sleep quality
rating. In addition, a student s stress reaction score measured by multidimensional personality

Art Analysis Of The Calling Of St Matthew
This essay will analyze, The Calling of St Matthews, an oil on canvas painting made between the
years of 1599 1600 by the artist, Caravaggio. Descriptive details of this painting will follow,
which will allow an in depth look into the elements and principles of design that are evident in this
Caravaggio s work. The Calling of St Matthew illustrates a religious scene where Jesusinitially
encounters Saint Matthew.
Most striking is the group of well dressed young and old men who have gathered around a table
counting money. One young man has a rapier at his side. Perhaps they are gangsters sitting in a bar
gambling. An upright gentleman in dark attire, punctuated by red sleeves, stands in the
shadows, his cheekbones red and defined. The glint of a halo adorns him and provides religious
iconography. Jesus points his hand at a bearded gentleman sitting amongst his friends, Saint
Matthew. Sunlight cuts the room in half and catches Matthew s face. He looks both surprised
and guilty, but the pointing leaves Matthew confused, so he points to himself as if to say, Oh,
are you looking for me? On the far left of the table, a young accountant is absorbed in counting
his coins; an old man in spectacles joins his side. A boy in yellow with a prepubescent face,
looks upon Jesus with an air of Who is this fellow? An old man with a cane, points his hand too at
Matthew as if to question, Are you sure he is a Saint? The focal point bounces between Jesus and
Matthew; his gaze and the

The Dark Side of Judge Pyncheon in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s...
The Dark Side of Judge Pyncheon in Nathaniel Hawthorne s Novel, The House of the Seven Gables
People in society live in a masquerade. Everyone wears a decoratively adorned mask that displays
beauty, purity, and service. However, behind the mask lies on the inside of all society. One will
stop at nothing in order to be well liked, thus becoming hypocrites. In Nathaniel Hawthorne s novel,
The House of the Seven Gables, the narrator uses intense diction, a vivid selection of detail, and a
shocking tone to reveal that the character of Judge Pyncheon resembles perfection on the outside,
yet darker traits sit latent on the inside.
The narrator uses intense diction to describe Judge Pyncheon s character as near perfection. He

Pyncheon is always aware of his form as well as his appearance towards others like broad
benevolence, and a scrupulous attention to the rich and poor. The narrator suddenly transitions
from Judge Pyncheon s admirably arranged life to his early and reckless youth. Nathaniel
Hawthorne ultimately describes Pyncheon s looking glass image, his party mask. This hard, cold
man can only be brought down by the public loss of interest in him. The intensity of the narrator s
diction makes the Judge s contrasting inner and outer characters obvious and blatant.
A vivid selection of detail provides perfect evidence to Judge Pyncheon s unsightly hypocrisy.
Hawthorne pays close attention to Pyncheon s work life, social world, and conspicuous
appearances. At the same time, he elaborates on his wonderful involvement, his pursuing work
ethic, and his superb manner and attire towards others. However, it is not the superficial attributes
that Hawthorne pays attention to... it is the subliminal side of the Judge that he disregards. What
does Judge Pyncheon do in his leisure time when the public eye is not trampling in his world?
The Judge s splendid rubbish is only a mere reflection he wants society to witness. Because of the
narrator s selection of detail, Judge Pyncheon s secret existence soars to the surface.
A shocking and disappointing tone exposes Judge Pyncheon s active and subtle conscience.
Hawthorne is loathing

Photography Has An Alternate Point Of View On Photography
Photography is commencing to wind up as the world s most popular pastime. Because photographs
surround us, we are able to utilize photography to explore the world. Susan Sontag, author of On
Photography, has an alternate point of view on photography. When Sontag implies that photography
lets us know how we think about the world, we acknowledge it as the camera records it; this is
essentially what photographyis all about, but it involves the photographer s view utilizing a camera
to record both a physical reality and an internal reality. Sontag s claim that photography constrains
our comprehension of the world is a great observation; conversely, today s current photograph
manipulation makes it difficult to see what reality truly is. Photography is taking pictures.
Following its invention in the 1800s, the photographic picture and its consistent development have
formed our experience of reality. Regardless of the brilliant ascent of photography from an interest
to a mass medium over the previous century, there is something unspeakably, yet unquestionably
diverse, about visual society in the advanced age. The feel of simply unique and natural without a
moment s delay particular and profoundly established is at the embodiment of the photographic
image itself. For instance, the photograph by Nick Brandt, Wasteland with Elephant, shows the
natural beauty of the environment. Brandt epitomizes Sontag s assertion, Picture taking serves a
high purpose: uncovering a

Mental Illness In Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse-Five
Although Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five can be considered offensive and immoral, this is
no reason to ban it from school libraries, because in the wake of negative opinions, this book
teaches the reader about mental illness, the atrocities that took place during World War II, and the
mistakes that were made that lead to the start of such a terrible war in order to help the reader learn
how to keep humanity from making the same mistakes again. You do not find many good books
that deal with mental illness and the psychologically destructive forces of war, nevertheless ones
that accomplish this without their author blatantly stating that they are speaking of mental illness.

The Ontario Retirement Pension Plan
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the creation of the Ontario Retirement Pension Plan
and to argue that it is a necessary and potentially effective way to ensure that workers in the
private sector in Ontario will be able to retire and live comfortably. This conclusion is not made
lightly as it is import to view any broadening of government influence through the most critical of
lenses. However, there is an increasing need for Ontarians to save for retirement and it is
becoming more and more apparent that private pension plans will not be able to meet the needs
of most people. This is because too few people have private pensions and the once that do exist
sit on volatile ground. In order to understand why the ORPP is justifiable policy, it is necessary
to understand the scope, extent and dimensions of the policy problem. With the Baby Boomers
in the process of retirement there are fewer people paying to support the pensions of greater
numbers of people. Governments at the federal, provincial and municipal levels have all made
financial promises without taking steps to ensure that promised programs are adequately funded.
This is creating two classes of retirees. The first are public sector employees with extremely
generous tax payer funded guaranteed pensions. The second is everyone else the 80 percent of
people who depend on other, far less desirable means like the Canadian Pension which is drastically
underfunded particularly when compared to the pension

Kadelphianism at Texas Christian University Essay
Psychologists often refer to the period of life known as adolescence as one of the most difficult
stages of development that an individual will endure.
It has been stated that adolescence is the time when an individual forms his/her own sense of
identity. A sense of identity is defined as an organized sense of how our own personality traits,
values, and beliefs fit together in defining who we are. Therefor, the development of a sense of
identity is, in fact, the basis for a stable adult personality.
Certain responsibilities accompany this development of an identity, such as the commitments

The founders believed in unselfish service to mankind, and they felt that personal leadership
requires confidence tempered with humility and tolerance.
The rituals of Kadelphianism are also quite simple and pure in nature.
With Frog Fountain serving as a center for all activity, the Kadelphian students meet on a bi
weekly basis; during these meetings there is an opening prayer session, a candle lighting
ceremony, and an open discussion or forum involving all of the students present. The members
discuss private and public issues which they attempt to resolve through peer support and
interaction. After the forum is complete, the candles are blown out simultaneously, and a closing
prayer is recited. During the ritual ceremony, all Kadelphians wear a small pin bearing the symbol
of Kadelphianism: a diamond shaped badge with the inscribed letters TCU and a pair of hands
clasped in friendship.
The hierarchy of the Kadelphians is based on the leadership and dedication set forth by its
members. The Grand Kadelphian, or leader of the students, is chosen by majority opinion; the
other leading Kadelphians are chosen by the Grand Kadelphian based on merit, scholarship, and
service to fellow students. It is considered an honor to be chosen by one s peers for any of the

have any anti bullyingprograms. In 1999, schools started to implement anti bullying programs like
The Espelage Lab and Collaborator and many others. Unfortunately, bullying is still happening in

empathy toward victimized peers and self efficacy to help them. The Kiva program has shown
increases in school liking and social motivation ( Salmivalli et al, 2013).
Emphasis on the Teacher
Teachers Roles Teachers can be seen as authority figures, and can stand up for behavioral norms in
classrooms (Veenstra, Lindenberg, Tinga, Ormell, 2010). When teachers are more involved in
preventing bullying and help to create a positive environment, students can feel confident to talk to
the teacher if there is a bullying problem (Veentra et al, 2014). Positive relationships between
students and teachers can help strengthen anti bullying norms (Veentra et al, 2014). Programs to
support teachers efficacy and attitudes are very important to help bullying victims in a classroom.
Bullying incidents mostly take place on the playground, hallways, lunchroom, and other place
where teachers are not around (Veenstra et al, 2014). Unfortunately, teachers are not able to support
anti bullying norms while they are not around (Atlas, Pepler, 1998). But still victims feel teachers
are not able to protect them, when teachers are around (Novick Isaacs, 2010).

An Introduction to the Principles of Morals and...
What is Utilitarianism? I believe that utilitarianism is the theory in which actions are right if they
produce happiness and wrong if they don t produce happiness. Happiness is what every human
being look forward to. When making a decision, all possible outcomes must be ensured that it will
lead to happiness. Utilitarianismis based on the principle of utility .Utility is the ability to be useful
while satisfying needs. Utilitarianism is generally considered a moral theory that was found by
Jeremey Bentham, a 19th century English philosopher and a social reformer. In 1923, he wrote a

There are two types of Utilitarianism; act and rule . An act utilitarian uses thought process. This
means that every decision made must be well thought out before coming into a conclusion. This
mean in depth calculation or solution to the problem. For example, a person wants to plan a trip
for his honey moon, he/she has a long list of places they want to enjoy their soul mates with.
Instead of jumping into a quick decision, an act utilitarian would sit down and calculate out the
utility of all possible decision before picking which they desire to go to. While on the other side,
a rule utilitarian uses the principles of utility to create set of rules and regulations by which they
live in. Rule utilitarian s are not incapable of being patient and go through each set of possibilities
and outcomes. They just don t see the reason to waste precious time on it. For example, a rule
utilitarian, would have simple rules such as, do not kill, do not steal etc. The difference between
Bentham and Mill was that Bentham was an act utilitarian and Mill was a rule utilitarian. Some
critics believe that utilitarianism is unsatisfactory theory due to the fact that it may have some
disadvantages. Utilitarianism only believes in happiness and it is the only thing that have intrinsic
worth. People might do one wrong thing just to produce happiness. The ends don t justify the
means, for example, if someone kills a healthy person just to provide organs to help five other

Analyzing The Demand Of The Bidders And Auction Results
Nyborg et al (2002) conduct their study by analysing the demand of the bidders and auction results
in Swedish Treasury auctions during uncertainty at the time of when the bidding occurs. They find
that bidders respond to uncertainty in three separate ways; as uncertainty increases, bidders reduce
the price levels at which they want to bid, they reduce quantity demanded and bidders also increase
bidding dispersion amongst the same bond. Nyborg et al also deem auction size to be a less
important factor than price uncertainty in how it influences the bidders behaviour even though as
the auction size increases, bidders increase their individual demands. They also suggest that

auctions by using an event study to test the statistical significance of auctions on the secondary
market bond prices. In their event study, they use the price movement that is associated with a level
change in the zero coupon yield curve as an appropriate benchmark.
Whilst running the regressions on the cumulative average abnormal returns (they refer to them

during 6 days before the auction, on the auction day and up to 8 days after the auction (CAR( 6,

period. They also find the most significant variables in explaining bond prices, from their
regression modelling, are the cover and size of the auction.
There is also a positive association between the cover variable and the pre auction CAR, which
means that the greater the demand for gilts at an auction, the greater the abnormal returns. Cover
and post auction CAR are negatively associated showing that the greater the excess demand at an
auction, the smaller the

Comparison Between My Last Duchess Ulysses Regarding...
Question : What is a dramatic monologue? Which of the two, in your opinion, is the stronger
dramatic monologue in Tennyson s Ulysses or Browning s My Last Duchess ?
Answer : Traditionally dramatic monologue is a lyrical poem in the form of speech spoken by a
single man. It is dramatic because it begins abruptly and in the development of its thought it takes
several sudden turns which impart dramatic dimension to the poem. In a dramatic monologue the
single speaker reveals his thoughts in the presence of a single silent listener or some silent
listeners. The speaker is not necessarily the poet himself though the speaker often gives out the
poet s belief and philosophy. The speaker s revelation, in fact, leads the readers to probe... Show

He tells them, you and I are old. These are the clues which lead us to believe that other mariners
are present but they do not speak. Telemachus presence is also felt. Tennyson here follows the
tradition of allowing one person to speak and keeping others silent. In My Last Duchess we see the
same thing. As the poem progresses, it becomes clear that only a single person speaks. The
speaker is the Duke of Ferrara who is talking about his dead Duchess portrait painted by Fra
Pandolf. At several points of the poem it becomes evident that there is a listener who remains
silent. For example, when the duke says Will t please you sit and look at her? or Will t you
please rise? we understand that someone is present around him. Later in the poem, we come to
know that he is an emissary for the second marriage of the Duke. Throughout the poem he does
not talk. But his reactions are revealed through the Duke s speech. For example, the clue to
understand the surprise in the emissary s face has been revealed by the Duke himself : so not
the first/ Are you to turn and ask thus. We know he does not ask anything but there has been a
question in his countenance. Tennyson reveals his heart s desire in Ulysses . This is another
aspect of dramatic monologue. He says he does not enjoy peaceful life at home, and so, he wants
to set out for new adventures. His inner thoughts have been revealed. However, the revelation is
very simple and plain. The speaker here is

William Shakespeare s Measure For Measure Essay
In our society, interactions with others contains vital importance when examining the exercise of
authority. Due to this, authority has been very challenging to embrace. An individual with arduous
authority is often required to make decisions, and these decisions are created based on the
conscience this person possesses. Constantly, the interpretation must be made whether these
decisions stamp a title on these individuals, and this is where legitimacyor illegitimacy of the
individual s actions make an appearance. In the play Measure for Measure written by William
Shakespeare, readers have the opportunity to witness this trial of holding authority. Angelo, one of
the characters within the play, exemplifies the exercise of authority, and arguments can be created
in relation to the sincerity of his actions. Many may argue that his use of authority seems
illegitimate, but due to certain citations within this play, I strongly believe the contrary is true.
Many situations within this particular play comprise the recognition characters obtain of his
incomparable ability to enforce laws, and these can act as the establishment of proving the
legitimacy he has as an authority figure. Also, particular characters offer blatant indications of
knowing and acknowledging the laws of the land, which will result in the culmination of proving
his legitimacy. Before presenting these examples, the definition of legitimacy must be clarified. In
addition to this, I will also be offering a

In Defense Of Laptops In The Classroom Summary
The article In Defence of Laptops in the Classroom by Rebecca Schuman, a university professor,
offers a different perspective to the banning of laptops in academics. She argues that while it might
be distracting, it is ultimately the student s own attitude towards education that dictates the
effectiveness of electronics in the classroom.
As the title suggests, Schuman argues that laptops have a place in the modern day classroom. She
emphasises how the current generation lives in an age that doesn t learn to write by hand (5) and
argues that it is impossible to separate technology from learning. Rather than to disregard it,
Schuman suggests changing the way in which lessons are conducted, with less of an impersonal
pedagogical approach, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She argues that policing the behaviour of students further infantilizes these 18 to 22 year olds (6).
Rather than banning the laptop, she uses it as a challenge to develop students to become more
independent learners. She presents the opinion that one learn(s) all kinds of things the hard way in
college (10). She presents the distractions of the laptop as an obstacle that students should learn to
overcome on their own terms rather than forcibly, in order to further benefit them in the future.
She brings up the idea of responsibility (10), one that is taught through actual experience instead
of a textbook. Throughout the article, Schuman does not back away from the fact that the case for
a laptop free classroom is indeed strong (3), even going as far as to include studies and evidence
that support the detriments of the laptop. The emphasis on the challenges posed highlights the
initiative that she wishes to impart by relaxing control on students. The stress on self creates
awareness as to how students are often treated with differing attitudes, as 13th graders , children, in
the classroom, yet expected to make decisions of importance, old enough to vote and go to war (7).
In giving students the freedom, she wishes to develop and hone their decision making

Australia Compulsory Voting System

The biggest western country that enforces compulsory voting is Australia. The major strength of
this particular voting method is of course the numbers. As mentioned earlier 92% of Australia s
voting population came and voted compared to Americas 41%. This obviously makes the result
more fair and democratic as it shows what the majority of the population want. On numerous
occasions in recent history there have been numerous attempts to accept voluntary voting and
ditch compulsory, however every time the idea was ditched, mainly due to how successful it
was working but also because of the popularity and the social backing behind it. Another strength
for compulsory voting is that it educates people on politics and the policies each party applies.
This comes in the sense that citizens, knowing they have to vote, will do research on each party
gaining a better understanding. For the people who are very uneducated on politics the possible
idea of research can help them select the major or minor party they want to back. A weakness of
compulsory voting goes against the previous strength this is that people who are uneducated in
politics may just select a random party that they know nothing about only so they don t get fined.
This could be a party that the majority of the country s population dislike, for Australia s
example Pauline Hanson s one nation party. If every politically uneducated person in Australia
was to do this it could pose an issue to the people who actually know what they are doing and
their votes. Some people believe that compulsory voting is wrong as it forces the citizens to do
something they don t want to do, which many people believe is

absolutism, which is the concentration of power and symbolic authority in royal hands. With this
power Louis XIV had many great achievements in France. He improved the tax system, religion,
trading, and court life.1 Jean Domat was a juror who was supported by the king himself. He
dedicated his life to explain and justify the importance of the role of absolutism in French society.
The culmination of this work can be found in his legal digest, On Social Order and Absolute
Monarchy. Many interesting ideas about the theory of absolutism can be found in his writings. It
explains the essential environment for absolutism, defines the origin and necessity of government,
and demonstrates the duties of the sovereign.
Domat s theory first begins with the idea of a perfect society. It is one with a comfortable style
of living for all in the nation. For this to occur, a state of order is necessary. Everyone needs to
know their rank and work together to contribute to society. Specific roles are given to each person,
and ideally they will all work to the best of their ability. It is in this environment that absolutism
thrives. Relationships between the government and the governed are easier to foster when
everyone has a duty and they do not question their place in the community. Because Domat gave
this basis for absolutism with his idea of teamwork in a state, he is able to justify the rest of his
theory.
After providing the basis, Domat justifies the role of government. He starts by stating that all men
are essentially equal by nature. This seems like it would argue against absolute power of
government, but he goes on to find the differences in society. They actually appear in the form of
things like social status, occupation, and relationships built. These factors are what gives rank and
society, which in return prove the need of government. According to Domat, these dynamics also
arise in nature. He explains, this distinction leads to a first kind of government in families, where
children owe obedience to their parents, who head the

How To Describe A Day On A Rainy Day Essay
One cold wet afternoon in early November, the fog was so thick I felt a though I could reach out
and grab it. It had been bright sunshine when we walked into that forest. Or should I say when
we were chased into it. Earlier that morning it felt as though it would be just another ordinary
Saturday. The birds were singing, the tractors were ploughing, but little did I know that at that
point, this was no regular day for what was to come on the sunny day was very irregular indeed.
Later on I decided to ring ben and see if he wanted to go on a walk together in the countryside.
After about ten minutes we set of together through the fields and down the country lanes. All of a
sudden ben stopped in the middle of the road and asked me if I had seen the forest ahead of us
before. Confused I said no and we started up again and carried on with our walk. Out of nowhere
a bull jumped out the hedgerow a chased ben and I towards the forest walls. We ran in and hid
behind some trees close so to the edge. The bull seemed to know that we were there but didn t
seem to want to go into the forest. Ben moved his head signalling that we should find a way out
of the forest I nodded and came out of where I was hiding I turned and saw the bull staring at me
but he didn t move I suddenly noticed that the fog around us was growing thicker and I could no
longer see ben in front of me. I shouted for him but no reply. Suddenly I fell and heard a cry of
which I thought sounded like ben I turned and

My father has taught me a lot about life. Although not being a role model, or even a positive
influence in my life, my relationship with has taught me at least one thing; anyone can change,
but only if they want to and have the drive to do so. Not only me, but a lot of my family have
tried to get him to change some of the bad habits he has. I spent years of my childhood being
frustrated and blaming myself over this, trying over and over to get him to see what he does is
terrible. But after all of it, I grew tired of blaming myself and waiting for him to wake up. I realized
that when he s ready, if he s ever ready, he will let people back in. But trying to force him to

The road to learning the lessons from my father was, and still is, a rocky one. Cory s journey
throughout the novel isn t always easy either. One of the main things from my lesson that also
touches on a great amount of the lessons covered in the novel; Life goes on. Bad things
happened, sacrifices are made and there are more to come. Tragedy is something the strongest
person struggles with, but most people find a way through it. And there are all kinds of people in
the world, people who in their heart may be different than they are in their actions and words. There
are so many things to consider about every boy and girls life in America. So many lessons to be
learned, ideas and experiences shared. What McCammon wants us to do is take Cory s lessons
to heart. To, like Cory, be able to keep that childhood magic in our hearts. So while I battle with
my relationship with my father, and while Cory battles growing up, we are all able to live a boy s

A Brief Biography of Fidel Castro
His full name is Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz and he was born on August 13, 1926 in a BirГn, Cuba.
Castro s parents are Angel Castro(father) and Lina Ruz(mother). His father was a wealth
landowner while his mother was a cook and maid to Angel. Castro was the third of six children

poverty, injustice, and corruption. A passion grew within him that wanted to fix these issues of
Cuba so Castro joined a political group that had the same views and goals as him. This new
political party he joined was called the Cuban People s Party. Fidel later became a candidate for
Congress for his political party in 1952. This is when he led a group of armed citizens to attack the

Persuasive Essay On Mass Shootings
There are many problems in this world today. One main problem in the United States and all
over the world is mass shootings. This problem is a huge one because it involves people killing
other people and that is just unacceptable. In the last ten years there have been over 53 mass
shootings in the United States, not including the rest of the world (Chris Wilson). In the last thirty
five years there have been seven hundred and twenty two and then one thousand one hundred
seventy seven (Chris Wilson). If you look at the number of people that are killed or being
wounded, you will notice that with new devices being introduced. One of the devices that have
been introduced is a bump stock. This device is a stock for a semi automatic riflethat can basically
turn your semi automatic rifle into a fully automatic rifle. They are considering making this
attachment to a rifle illegal to the public.
A bump stock it should be banned, it should be disallowed, it should be wiped off of the face of
the earth, said Steven Wolfson, the district attorney of Clarkson county, Nevada, which includes
Las Vegas (Shortell). The Las Vegas shooting that occurred on October 1, 2017 killed fifty nine
people and injured five hundred twenty seven others. The shooter had twenty three firearms in
his hotel room and twenty of them were rifles and most of them were equipped with bump
stocks. Most people did not have a problem with the bump stock until certain people started using
them to shoot and kill humans in mass shootings. People are trying to get these bump stocks
banned because of this reason: mass shootings. Bump stocks are not the reason for mass
shootings, but they allow the gun man s rifle to shoot faster. With the gun firing faster the gun
man can kill more people because there is more projectiles firing from the gun. Most people want
the bump stock to be banned in every state. Citizens of the United States will probably begin to
buy these bump stocks because they will probably be banned soon.
If they talk about banning certain bump stocks or all of them, people will go out and begin to buy
them before they are not available anymore. If this happens more people will go out and buy them
even if they have never even thought

Greenhouse Effect Essay
The Greenhouse Effect: Causes Impacts
INTRODUCTION
The greenhouse effect refers to circumstances where the short wavelengths of visible light from the
sun pass through a transparent medium and are absorbed, but the longer wavelengths of the
infrared re radiation from the heated objects are unable to pass through that medium. The trapping
of the long wavelength radiation leads to more heating and a higher resultant temperature. Besides
the heating of an automobile by sunlight through the windshield and the namesake example of
heating the greenhouse by sunlight passing through sealed, transparent windows, the greenhouse
effect has been widely used to describe the trapping of excess heat by the rising concentration of
carbon dioxide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Almost half the radiation is in the form of visible light, which our eyes are adapted to use.
About 50% of the Sun s energy is absorbed at the Earth s surface and the rest is reflected or
absorbed by the atmosphere. The reflection of light back into space largely by clouds does not
much affect the basic mechanism; this light, effectively, is lost to the system.
The absorbed energy warms the surface. Simple presentations of the greenhouse effect, such as
the idealized greenhouse model, show this heat being lost as thermal radiation. The reality is more
complex: the atmosphere near the surface is largely opaque to thermal radiation (with important
exceptions for window bands), and most heat loss from the surface is by sensible heat and latent
heat transport. Radiative energy losses become increasingly important higher in the atmosphere
largely because of the decreasing concentration of water vapour, an important greenhouse gas. It is
more realistic to think of the greenhouse effect as applying to a surface in the mid troposphere,
which is effectively coupled to the surface by a lapse rate.
The simple picture assumes a steady state. In the real world there is the diurnal cycle as well as
seasonal cycles and weather. Solar heating only applies during daytime. During the night, the
atmosphere cools somewhat, but not greatly, because its emissivity is low, and during the day the
atmosphere warms. Diurnal temperature changes decrease with height in the

Hawaiian Bobtail Squid Essay
Hawaiian bobtail squid, also known as Euprymna scolopes is a species of bobtail squid in the
family sepiolidae. Native to the Pacific Ocean and can found in the shallow coastal water of
Hawaii island and Midway island. It has a relatively short life span (3 10 months). However, it

The Chocolate War Analysis
The Chocolate War What is your relationship with your father or parental guardian like? Perhaps
if Jerry had a more forthcoming and open relationship with his father, the ending of the story
could have had a better ending. Jerry keeps the troubling situation secret at home because he
doesn t want to bother his dad with it since his mom died not too long ago, as Obie pointed out in
chapter 2. Jerry doesn t talk to his dad about anything because he doesn t want his dad to have to
deal with the drama of the chocolate sales and pain of getting beat up. This is not only seen in
chapter 32 on page 219 when it states Compassion for his father welled in Jerry. Should he tell
his father what it was all about? But he didn t want to involve him. , but it s also seen in chapter
34 on page 225 where it says He didn t want his father s universe to be disturbed and he wanted
his own to be put in order again. If the relationship between Jerry and his father was more open
where they could talk about anything, he might ve not had to deal with his side of things alone.
But instead, he goes it alone, without any help from his dad, his close friends, or even the
teachers. In the beginning of chapter 37 on page 247, The Goober explains how he didn t want to
attend school and see Jerry being taunted and teased, so he stayed home for a couple days. When he
came late to the raffle fight, he thought about how the school reminded him of his own betrayals
and defections. Even the teachers

Family Resource Centers Essay
Family Resource Centers
Half the children in this country live in homes in which one or both parents work. Twelve million
children in this country do not have health insurance, and over 4.5% of all children are victims of
suspected child abuse or neglect (Doktor and Poertner). Believe it or not, these are all indicators of
the demand for Family Resource Centers within our school systems. Many question whether Family
Resource Centers are worth the money the state pours into them. However, in serving students,
parents and teachers, there should be no question of their significance. Due to The Kentucky
Education Reform Act in the early 1990 s we have seen the development of Family Resource
Centers in Kentucky, and they are fulfilling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In an interview with David Messer (operator of the Olive Hill Family Resource Center) I learned
that the resource centers say, Our mission with children is to help remove the physical,
educational, and social barriers in order to see them succeed in school. and that Our mission with
parents is to empower them with resources and skill needed to meet the challenges in life. The
mission statement of the resource centers may vary according to the area, but most followed the
same concept. Growing up in a school system with Family Resource Centers, I must agree that they
live up to their mission statement. They try to remove education barriers by offering tutoring,
physical barriers by offering special education or medical assistance, and social barriers by
providing students with anything to help them not stand out in the crowd.
Family Resource Centers have a unique structure. Referring back to the Orientation Guide for
Newly Employed FR/YSC Coordinators published by MSU s College of Education, Like any
program, they have a director that is the supervisor over everything in the program for example
keeping track of the funding and programs offered and the staff. In addition to the director you have
the advisory councils. This group advises, councils and assists the center and it encourages
interaction among the community, the school and the center. It consists of ten to twenty members
that are made up of students, parents,

concerns about the verbal allegations. I ve written a brief summary of the event. Roughly 35 30
minutes left for the shift. We had received an email on the new closing call protocol and a few of
us were discussing the verbiage. Mac and I were discussing how we could put in place the new
closing into our statements during our 0800 1400 calls. While we were discussing this, Jasmine
turned to me and asked what I was doing. I answer that I was working, and asked if she needed
my help anything. She responded with no , but that I looked like I wasn t working and implied
that I should be on the phone taking calls. If memory serves me correct, if you aren t busy you
should be ready. She then asked if I was even on the phone. This was the first day that a few of
us were told not to be in the phones, so I was not logged in to take calls. I told her I was finishing
up some work and I did not engage after I replied. I turned to my computer to complete an email
on the dispute inbox. I was following up on it being cleared and let Bobbie Jo and Art know that I
left a few emails in there until Monday. While I was finishing this, Mac was voicing her concerns
about forgetting the new closing and not being able to complete in the closing of the call. As I was

To summarize, someone was in a room and was saying how the room was very messy and
disorganized and how its owner should be humiliated and ashamed. This narrative poem with
sixteen lines grouped in one stanza following the rhyme scheme of ABCBDEFEGHJHKLML
appears to take place in the narrator s house ( Columbus.edu ). Most importantly, the purpose of
writing this poem was to show how we should not be quick to accuse others of carelessness when
we are just as guilty of the same thing ( Poem #2: Messy Room by Shel Silverstein ). One should
not be so quick to accuse others when fault also lies with us ( Poem #2: Messy Room by Shel

the poem when he said, A lizard named Ed is asleep in his bed and His smelly sock has been

hall and wall, lamp and damp, floor and door, sock and stuck, and Ed and bed. Another sound
device used by Silverstein is alliteration. This can be found in line 5 where it says, his workbook

Franchising Is An Important Industry
INTRODUCTION
The idea of franchising has been a thought that dates all the way back to the middle ages when
landowners would grant peasants to hunt, hold fairs, and hold markets on their land. It was not
until 1858 that franchising became an important industry. Today, franchising is still one of the
largest industries in existence ( The History Of Franchising, n.d.). Franchising is an agreement
between a party (Franchisor) who gives the privilege to another individual (Franchisee) to own,
manage, and run his or her business in another place with certain expenses that the franchisee is
responsible for and laws that the franchisee must abide by.
Over the years, franchising has become very important to the economy. When franchising is done...

The franchisor has the power to reject or accept anyone who wants to franchise his or her business.
Franchisors only accept a franchisee after the candidate passes certain company requirements that
show the franchisor that the candidate is serious about upholding the expectations for the franchise
that the franchisor has set in place. A consulting company (Reliable Background Screening)
towards franchisors, gives advice to franchisors and say, By thoughtful and careful analysis, you
improve your odds of choosing the best franchisee owners to represent and promote your franchise
company s image and values. ( Background Checks to Protect Your Franchise Brand, n.d.).
Franchisors have to make the right choice when it comes to picking their franchisee because in the
future they will be the one representing their company. If in the future the franchisee and franchisor
are not seeing eye to eye it can open up conflicts which can ultimately hurt their brand.
The Importance of the Franchisor
Franchising is quite different than other industries because two entrepreneurs are involved in it and
their relationship is vital for success. The franchisee needs the right tools, guidance, and a
respectable amount of money in order for him or her to generate the appropriate profits to make the
franchise worth the investment. However, franchisors must also be ready to assist their franchisees
with all of the tools and guidance they need to make them successful. Mark Siebert the CEO of

  • 2. The Drug Of Prescription Drugs As the NFL grows in infamy from their many concussion scandals, the misusing of prescription drugs is overshadowed, but still remains as a major issue in the NFL. A huge problem facing the NFL today is the ill advised use of painkillers as it affects former players and current players alike. If nothing is done to stop this dilemma, players will continue to be affected by the accoutrements of painkillers. Only through DEA investigations, increased restrictions on prescription drugs, and increased monitoring of player s mental health, will we end the epidemic of the misuse of painkillers in the NFL. Background of the Problem As NFL players continue their careers, they become household names that people start to look up to as role models.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With injuries plaguing the NFL, team doctors are able to use drugs such as prescription painkillers to allow players to play through pain. NFL team doctors are able to to receive and distribute illegal painkillers with ease. In a Vice Sports article about the suppliers of the NFL s painkiller addiction, Aaron Gordon states, SportPharm,...from at least June of 2009 to June of 2010, illegally provided prescription drugs to 81 team doctors across American college and professional sports (Gordon, 2014, para. 2). Many NFL team doctors claim that they did not know about the illegal drugs and that they only use these companies for their systems of business. Gordon expresses that in a U T San Diego report written by Michael Lipman, NFL teams are not only using SportPharm, an unlicensed California Pharmacy, for their convenient tracking system, but for the buying of massive quantities of painkillers. These painkillers end up in the hands of the players who have the potential of misusing them from their intended use which can destroy their lives. One cause of professional football player s painkiller addictions is that Doctors feel pushed to have the players continue playing. Some doctors believe that if they do not load up their players with heavy drugs to be able to play, they will be let go from their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. David Jones DAVID JONES 8th October 09 Strategic Recommendations Report 08 Fall Executive Summary The Australian retail industry is experiencing significant changes in both macro and industry environments. Companies are required to improve customer service quality to retain customers as rivalry for customers is increasing due to the rising amount of online retailers. To meet this challenge, David Jones should expand into online retailing. Building customer loyalty will determine the viability of the transformation into a successful e commerce company. Additionally, identification of stakeholders and their requirements are crucial in major organisational changes. To respond to changes in the external environment, David Jones should scale back... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, the increasing overseas migration from Asia (Australian government 2009) will have an impact on consumer behaviour. These demographic groups have higher spending patterns and higher preference for branded products, and hence potentially increasing the market for high quality products (Australian Government 2009). Australia lacks an international image as a major tourism shopping destination, as compared to Hong Kong or Singapore, that have successfully positioned themselves as central shopping and retail destinations in Asia (Folk 2009). Additionally, the geographic distance from Asia reduces tourism shopping in Australia. The rise in protectionism around the world may negatively impact David Jones performance due to increasing prices (Kemp 2009). 2.2.Industry Environment Industry characteristics| High capital requirement and specialised assets| Economies of scale| Brand awareness| Low switching cost| High amount of competitors| Lack of strategic competitors| High amount of suppliers| Emerging e commerce sites| Table 2. • 4. Improper And Inadequate Development Of Water Resources Essay The improper and inadequate development of water resources in poor countries is causing damage to the essential ecosystem as well as greatly affecting the condition of the environment. The water being collected and the water that is released back to the ecosystem are not even comparable in any sense. The lack of treatment leading to increased release of harmful contaminants directly into the rivers is clearly interrupting the ecosystem (Molden November 2012). Many from other rural areas are constantly migrating to the big cities to gain access to fresh water and causing rapid urbanization, which is in turn becoming an even bigger threat to the ecosystem. Under these situations, the economic condition of the Global South cannot be improved, as this will be a continuous fight to remain on top. Thus a sustainable developmental plan is necessary to gain back the control over fresh water. The paper will discuss a few major issues with water and the environment, and try to suggest ways to improve the conditions for a better future both environmentally and economically in the global south. Water and Economy The seventh UN Secretary General Kofi Annan in 2001 said fierce competition for fresh water may well become a source for conflict and wars in the future . While the World Economic Forum listed water supply crisis as a top item in the list of global risks. A rapidly developing nation like China is ample proof of this fact, where they lose $15 billion every year due to reduction ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. How We Connect Makes All The Difference Summary What Is a Healthy Self ? Adolescents who are able to learn and develop, and then determine who they are for themselves often reflect a healthier sense of self. Children who strive to be who their parents or others who influence them want them to be, often become detached from their internal sense of selfand do not properly develop. Dr. Levin discusses many disruptors of self development in children from affluent homes such as constant pressures to adopt a social facile, high levels of competitiveness, performance oriented praise, and an unblemished reputation. At the same time, affluent parents tend to over parent, shielding children from every bad thing that can come their way which affects their sense of self and how to cope with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many different parenting styles that help children develop healthy lifestyles. Dr. Levine focuses this chapter on the authoritarian, permissive and authoritative parents. The authoritarian parent, or the do as your told parent as stated in the book, focuses on strict rules for their children. These parents carry a strong because I said so ideology and end up hurting their kids more than they help. These kids end up with low self esteem and high rates of depression. The permissive parent, or the do your own thing parent, focus more on a friendship with their child other than a respectful parent child relationship. These parents have trouble disciplining their child and don t teach their children correct skills to take responsibility for their actions. The last parenting style, the authoritative parent, are accepting of their child, but also have clear rules and expectations. These parents have appropriate discipline while also focusing on how to better their child. The children of these types of parents have better grades, better social skills and are all around happier. In this chapter, Dr. Levine also focuses on correct ways to be accepting and invested in your child and how important it is to praise effort instead of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Random Act Of Kindness Definition I believe that kindness is a standout amongst the most vital human qualities. I think it is really nice to do a random act of kindness sometimes, and it can truly change the standpoint of another person s day. Once I got this assignment about the random act of kindness I was really glad to take part in a great deal of kind heartedness. It s always good to make yourself a blessing to someone else. For my random act of kindness, I distributed ice cold bottles of water to men at the race track who were working on cars in 90 degree weather. I decided this would be the best one for me to do since I knew it would be hot and the men needed to stay hydrated. • 7. Hate Groups Research Paper There is so much hate in this world. To add onto that hate, there are many hate groups. The hate group that I am writing about is the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Another name for this group is Islamic State in Iraq and Levant (ISIL). ISIS and ISIL are the same group. This group is made up of Islamic extremists who believe the world should be under Sharia Law. Sharia Law means, One political and religious leader over all. ISIS has many other beliefs, the qualifications to belong to this group can be brutal, and the present day hate is awful. This group s roots trace back to Abu Musab al Zarqawi, a Jordanian who set up Jihad in 2002. A year after the United States invaded Iraq, Zarqawi pledged allegiance to Osama Bin Laden, and founded Al Qaeda in Iraq. After Zarqawi s death his followers created an umbrella organization ISI, or Islamic State in Iraq. In 2003 the Islamic State renamed itself to the Islamic State in Iraq and Levant. Now ISIS is using propaganda to recruit Westerners to their cause. Most people who are being recruited have no connection to ISIS, or Syria at all. There is no initiation process to join ISIS. One just has to be willing to commit acts of terror, and be a cold blooded killer. To be recruited one must find a Jihadi mentor. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 8. It s a Wonderful Life Essay The movie, It s a Wonderful Life, has the protagonist named George Bailey. In this story line, God is talking to one of his angels and He tells this angel that his job is to prevent this man from killing himself and to save him. God then goes and shows this angel part of George s life that was very significant. In the end, we see George Bailey at present time and we see that he is at one of his lowest points ever. Throughout the movie, the audience gets to perceive George s dilemma in life. Since he was a little boy, George has been a good child: always willing to help others. He saved his brother s life by jumping into icy cold water to prevent him from drowning, and thus he lost his left ear s hearing; he also prevented his boss,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To me, it really seem idiotic taking my life away for just $8,000, but that is just my perception on viewing things. Everyone has a different perception upon a subject, and George Bailey is frustrated and he feels like he has no other option. When people are scared, depressed and mad, they have a tendency of thinking irrational and therefore make careless choices. George Bailey s careless choice is wanting to take his life away. Emotion also plays a very significant role in the movie. When George Bailey s guardian angel makes it so that George was never born, he gets to see how the people and the town are really affected by his nonexistence. Seeing that his wife Mary does not have a happy life and that his old boss went to prison for putting drugs in those capsules that he could have prevented if he was alive, is really emotional to him and he feels heartbroken. He notices that the once before Bailey Park is now Potterville, and all the decent houses that were built there are now old slums and people are in poverty due to Mr. Potter s lack of emotion and kindness. George witnesses all these catastrophic changes and it pains him to see so much suffering that he could have prevented. George Bailey is a kind man, and his emotional feelings tell him that in fact he does not want to die. He realizes that whatever problems that he is having can be fixed and that the world is not coming to an end just for $8,000. Seeing everyone s lack of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Netflix Yunshi Case I agree with Yunshi s stance on streaming services offering a attractive package that differentiates themselves from the competition of alternatives such as cable or dish network. Today people have several avenues to take in gaining access to their daily entertainment. Services have become more catered to the variety of consumer taste; thus, the old model of packaging ESPN with less supported programs such as ESPN 3 or 2 are developing into packaging your unique production programs. I can only watch certain Netflix produced shows on Netflix, therefore, a customer wanting more of a certain program would be attracted to the diverse options Netflix has opposed to another streaming service. The options streaming has vs the options television have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Movie studios have gone to great lengths in stopping pirated movies or channels that distribute their movies without consent from the producers. Fair use is another tricky subject and many people are content with snippets of a popular series or are fine with watching an entire visual novel or listening to an book audio instead of purchasing the novel from a store or website. Thus, best cost has become more nuanced and allowed for more tricky approaches to attracting customers with free material that is bundled with priced add on or free material that is kept afloat with volunteer payments or optional payed bonus extras. For example, a studio may create a movie and have the ticket be valid for watching in a theater but also later viewing at home. It dissuades customers from illegally purchasing the movie due to the cost strategy being convenient and flexible to consumer taste. The strategies are different yet today are being utilized and evolving with the pressures of new competition along with customer perception. The Calling of St Matthew illustrates a religious scene where Jesusinitially encounters Saint Matthew. Most striking is the group of well dressed young and old men who have gathered around a table counting money. One young man has a rapier at his side. Perhaps they are gangsters sitting in a bar gambling. An upright gentleman in dark attire, punctuated by red sleeves, stands in the shadows, his cheekbones red and defined. The glint of a halo adorns him and provides religious iconography. Jesus points his hand at a bearded gentleman sitting amongst his friends, Saint Matthew. Sunlight cuts the room in half and catches Matthew s face. He looks both surprised and guilty, but the pointing leaves Matthew confused, so he points to himself as if to say, Oh, are you looking for me? On the far left of the table, a young accountant is absorbed in counting his coins; an old man in spectacles joins his side. A boy in yellow with a prepubescent face, looks upon Jesus with an air of Who is this fellow? An old man with a cane, points his hand too at Matthew as if to question, Are you sure he is a Saint? When Sontag implies that photography lets us know how we think about the world, we acknowledge it as the camera records it; this is essentially what photographyis all about, but it involves the photographer s view utilizing a camera to record both a physical reality and an internal reality. • 31. Bullying And Its Effect On Schools While bullying has occurred for many years, anti bullying programs in schools are having a strict development. Bullying was not an important subject that was paid much attention in schools or classrooms before 1999. When the Columbine and Virginia Tech shooting happened, schools did not have any anti bullyingprograms. In 1999, schools started to implement anti bullying programs like The Espelage Lab and Collaborator and many others. Unfortunately, bullying is still happening in nowadays. Bullying tragedies are in nowadays active. Emphasis on the Teacher Teachers Roles Teachers can be seen as authority figures, and can stand up for behavioral norms in classrooms (Veenstra, Lindenberg, Tinga, Ormell, 2010). When teachers are more involved in preventing bullying and help to create a positive environment, students can feel confident to talk to the teacher if there is a bullying problem (Veentra et al, 2014). Positive relationships between students and teachers can help strengthen anti bullying norms (Veentra et al, 2014). Programs to support teachers efficacy and attitudes are very important to help bullying victims in a classroom. Bullying incidents mostly take place on the playground, hallways, lunchroom, and other place where teachers are not around (Veenstra et al, 2014). Unfortunately, teachers are not able to support anti bullying norms while they are not around (Atlas, Pepler, 1998). I believe that utilitarianism is the theory in which actions are right if they produce happiness and wrong if they don t produce happiness. Happiness is what every human being look forward to. When making a decision, all possible outcomes must be ensured that it will lead to happiness. Utilitarianismis based on the principle of utility .Utility is the ability to be useful while satisfying needs. Utilitarianism is generally considered a moral theory that was found by Jeremey Bentham, a 19th century English philosopher and a social reformer. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are two types of Utilitarianism; act and rule . An act utilitarian uses thought process. This means that every decision made must be well thought out before coming into a conclusion. This mean in depth calculation or solution to the problem. For example, a person wants to plan a trip for his honey moon, he/she has a long list of places they want to enjoy their soul mates with. Instead of jumping into a quick decision, an act utilitarian would sit down and calculate out the utility of all possible decision before picking which they desire to go to. While on the other side, a rule utilitarian uses the principles of utility to create set of rules and regulations by which they live in. Rule utilitarian s are not incapable of being patient and go through each set of possibilities and outcomes. They just don t see the reason to waste precious time on it. For example, a rule utilitarian, would have simple rules such as, do not kill, do not steal etc. The difference between Bentham and Mill was that Bentham was an act utilitarian and Mill was a rule utilitarian. Some critics believe that utilitarianism is unsatisfactory theory due to the fact that it may have some disadvantages. Analyzing The Demand Of The Bidders And Auction Results Nyborg et al (2002) conduct their study by analysing the demand of the bidders and auction results in Swedish Treasury auctions during uncertainty at the time of when the bidding occurs. They find that bidders respond to uncertainty in three separate ways; as uncertainty increases, bidders reduce the price levels at which they want to bid, they reduce quantity demanded and bidders also increase bidding dispersion amongst the same bond. Nyborg et al also deem auction size to be a less important factor than price uncertainty in how it influences the bidders behaviour even though as the auction size increases, bidders increase their individual demands. In their event study, they use the price movement that is associated with a level change in the zero coupon yield curve as an appropriate benchmark. Whilst running the regressions on the cumulative average abnormal returns (they refer to them as CAR( x, x) ) they focus on three scenarios found in earlier yield drift testing, which takes place during 6 days before the auction, on the auction day and up to 8 days after the auction (CAR( 6, 1), CAR(0,0) and CAR(+1,+8)). They find there is a negative average return in the post auction period. They also find the most significant variables in explaining bond prices, from their regression modelling, are the cover and size of the auction. There is also a positive association between the cover variable and the pre auction CAR, which means that the greater the demand for gilts at an auction, the greater the abnormal returns. • 34. Comparison Between My Last Duchess Ulysses Regarding... Question : What is a dramatic monologue? Which of the two, in your opinion, is the stronger dramatic monologue in Tennyson s Ulysses or Browning s My Last Duchess ? Answer : Traditionally dramatic monologue is a lyrical poem in the form of speech spoken by a single man. It is dramatic because it begins abruptly and in the development of its thought it takes several sudden turns which impart dramatic dimension to the poem. In a dramatic monologue the single speaker reveals his thoughts in the presence of a single silent listener or some silent listeners. The speaker is not necessarily the poet himself though the speaker often gives out the poet s belief and philosophy. The speaker s revelation, in fact, leads the readers to probe... Telemachus presence is also felt. Tennyson here follows the tradition of allowing one person to speak and keeping others silent. In My Last Duchess we see the same thing. As the poem progresses, it becomes clear that only a single person speaks. The speaker is the Duke of Ferrara who is talking about his dead Duchess portrait painted by Fra Pandolf. At several points of the poem it becomes evident that there is a listener who remains silent. For example, when the duke says Will t please you sit and look at her? or Will t you please rise? we understand that someone is present around him. Later in the poem, we come to know that he is an emissary for the second marriage of the Duke. Throughout the poem he does not talk. But his reactions are revealed through the Duke s speech. For example, the clue to understand the surprise in the emissary s face has been revealed by the Duke himself : so not the first/ Are you to turn and ask thus. We know he does not ask anything but there has been a question in his countenance. Tennyson reveals his heart s desire in Ulysses . This is another aspect of dramatic monologue. He says he does not enjoy peaceful life at home, and so, he wants to set out for new adventures. His inner thoughts have been revealed. However, the revelation is very simple and plain. • 35. William Shakespeare s Measure For Measure Essay In our society, interactions with others contains vital importance when examining the exercise of authority. Due to this, authority has been very challenging to embrace. An individual with arduous authority is often required to make decisions, and these decisions are created based on the conscience this person possesses. Constantly, the interpretation must be made whether these decisions stamp a title on these individuals, and this is where legitimacyor illegitimacy of the individual s actions make an appearance. In the play Measure for Measure written by William Shakespeare, readers have the opportunity to witness this trial of holding authority. Angelo, one of the characters within the play, exemplifies the exercise of authority, and arguments can be created in relation to the sincerity of his actions. Many may argue that his use of authority seems illegitimate, but due to certain citations within this play, I strongly believe the contrary is true. Many situations within this particular play comprise the recognition characters obtain of his incomparable ability to enforce laws, and these can act as the establishment of proving the legitimacy he has as an authority figure. Also, particular characters offer blatant indications of knowing and acknowledging the laws of the land, which will result in the culmination of proving his legitimacy. Before presenting these examples, the definition of legitimacy must be clarified. In addition to this, I will also be offering a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She argues that while it might be distracting, it is ultimately the student s own attitude towards education that dictates the effectiveness of electronics in the classroom. As the title suggests, Schuman argues that laptops have a place in the modern day classroom. She presents the distractions of the laptop as an obstacle that students should learn to overcome on their own terms rather than forcibly, in order to further benefit them in the future. She brings up the idea of responsibility (10), one that is taught through actual experience instead of a textbook. Throughout the article, Schuman does not back away from the fact that the case for a laptop free classroom is indeed strong (3), even going as far as to include studies and evidence that support the detriments of the laptop. The emphasis on the challenges posed highlights the initiative that she wishes to impart by relaxing control on students. The stress on self creates awareness as to how students are often treated with differing attitudes, as 13th graders , children, in the classroom, yet expected to make decisions of importance, old enough to vote and go to war (7). As mentioned earlier 92% of Australia s voting population came and voted compared to Americas 41%. This obviously makes the result more fair and democratic as it shows what the majority of the population want. On numerous occasions in recent history there have been numerous attempts to accept voluntary voting and ditch compulsory, however every time the idea was ditched, mainly due to how successful it was working but also because of the popularity and the social backing behind it. Another strength for compulsory voting is that it educates people on politics and the policies each party applies. This comes in the sense that citizens, knowing they have to vote, will do research on each party gaining a better understanding. For the people who are very uneducated on politics the possible idea of research can help them select the major or minor party they want to back. A weakness of compulsory voting goes against the previous strength this is that people who are uneducated in politics may just select a random party that they know nothing about only so they don t get fined. This could be a party that the majority of the country s population dislike, for Australia s example Pauline Hanson s one nation party. • 40. King Louis XIV, On Social Order And Absolute Monarchy After suppressing revolts by the Fronde in 17th century France, King Louis XIV had become the supreme ruler of the country. Without any challenges to his power, he was able to practice absolutism, which is the concentration of power and symbolic authority in royal hands. With this power Louis XIV had many great achievements in France. He improved the tax system, religion, trading, and court life.1 Jean Domat was a juror who was supported by the king himself. He dedicated his life to explain and justify the importance of the role of absolutism in French society. The culmination of this work can be found in his legal digest, On Social Order and Absolute Monarchy. Many interesting ideas about the theory of absolutism can be found in his writings. It explains the essential environment for absolutism, defines the origin and necessity of government, and demonstrates the duties of the sovereign. Domat s theory first begins with the idea of a perfect society. It is one with a comfortable style of living for all in the nation. For this to occur, a state of order is necessary. Everyone needs to know their rank and work together to contribute to society. Specific roles are given to each person, and ideally they will all work to the best of their ability. It is in this environment that absolutism thrives. Relationships between the government and the governed are easier to foster when everyone has a duty and they do not question their place in the community. Because Domat gave this basis for absolutism with his idea of teamwork in a state, he is able to justify the rest of his theory. After providing the basis, Domat justifies the role of government. He starts by stating that all men are essentially equal by nature. This seems like it would argue against absolute power of government, but he goes on to find the differences in society. They actually appear in the form of things like social status, occupation, and relationships built. These factors are what gives rank and society, which in return prove the need of government. According to Domat, these dynamics also arise in nature. He explains, this distinction leads to a first kind of government in families, where children owe obedience to their parents, who head the ... Greenhouse Effect Essay The Greenhouse Effect: Causes Impacts INTRODUCTION The greenhouse effect refers to circumstances where the short wavelengths of visible light from the sun pass through a transparent medium and are absorbed, but the longer wavelengths of the infrared re radiation from the heated objects are unable to pass through that medium. The trapping of the long wavelength radiation leads to more heating and a higher resultant temperature. Besides the heating of an automobile by sunlight through the windshield and the namesake example of heating the greenhouse by sunlight passing through sealed, transparent windows, the greenhouse effect has been widely used to describe the trapping of excess heat by the rising concentration of carbon dioxide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Almost half the radiation is in the form of visible light, which our eyes are adapted to use. About 50% of the Sun s energy is absorbed at the Earth s surface and the rest is reflected or absorbed by the atmosphere. The reflection of light back into space largely by clouds does not much affect the basic mechanism; this light, effectively, is lost to the system. The absorbed energy warms the surface. Simple presentations of the greenhouse effect, such as the idealized greenhouse model, show this heat being lost as thermal radiation. The reality is more complex: the atmosphere near the surface is largely opaque to thermal radiation (with important exceptions for window bands), and most heat loss from the surface is by sensible heat and latent heat transport. Radiative energy losses become increasingly important higher in the atmosphere largely because of the decreasing concentration of water vapour, an important greenhouse gas. It is more realistic to think of the greenhouse effect as applying to a surface in the mid troposphere, which is effectively coupled to the surface by a lapse rate. The simple picture assumes a steady state. In the real world there is the diurnal cycle as well as seasonal cycles and weather. Solar heating only applies during daytime. During the night, the atmosphere cools somewhat, but not greatly, because its emissivity is low, and during the day the atmosphere warms. Diurnal temperature changes decrease with height in the ... • 51. The Chocolate War Analysis The Chocolate War What is your relationship with your father or parental guardian like? Perhaps if Jerry had a more forthcoming and open relationship with his father, the ending of the story could have had a better ending. Jerry keeps the troubling situation secret at home because he doesn t want to bother his dad with it since his mom died not too long ago, as Obie pointed out in chapter 2. Jerry doesn t talk to his dad about anything because he doesn t want his dad to have to deal with the drama of the chocolate sales and pain of getting beat up. This is not only seen in chapter 32 on page 219 when it states Compassion for his father welled in Jerry. Should he tell his father what it was all about? But he didn t want to involve him. , but it s also seen in chapter 34 on page 225 where it says He didn t want his father s universe to be disturbed and he wanted his own to be put in order again. If the relationship between Jerry and his father was more open where they could talk about anything, he might ve not had to deal with his side of things alone. But instead, he goes it alone, without any help from his dad, his close friends, or even the teachers. In the beginning of chapter 37 on page 247, The Goober explains how he didn t want to attend school and see Jerry being taunted and teased, so he stayed home for a couple days. When he came late to the raffle fight, he thought about how the school reminded him of his own betrayals and defections. Even the teachers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Family Resource Centers Essay Family Resource Centers Half the children in this country live in homes in which one or both parents work. Twelve million children in this country do not have health insurance, and over 4.5% of all children are victims of suspected child abuse or neglect (Doktor and Poertner). Believe it or not, these are all indicators of the demand for Family Resource Centers within our school systems. Many question whether Family Resource Centers are worth the money the state pours into them. However, in serving students, parents and teachers, there should be no question of their significance. Due to The Kentucky Education Reform Act in the early 1990 s we have seen the development of Family Resource Centers in Kentucky, and they are fulfilling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In an interview with David Messer (operator of the Olive Hill Family Resource Center) I learned that the resource centers say, Our mission with children is to help remove the physical, educational, and social barriers in order to see them succeed in school. and that Our mission with parents is to empower them with resources and skill needed to meet the challenges in life. The mission statement of the resource centers may vary according to the area, but most followed the same concept. Growing up in a school system with Family Resource Centers, I must agree that they live up to their mission statement. They try to remove education barriers by offering tutoring, physical barriers by offering special education or medical assistance, and social barriers by providing students with anything to help them not stand out in the crowd. Family Resource Centers have a unique structure. Referring back to the Orientation Guide for Newly Employed FR/YSC Coordinators published by MSU s College of Education, Like any program, they have a director that is the supervisor over everything in the program for example keeping track of the funding and programs offered and the staff. In addition to the director you have the advisory councils. This group advises, councils and assists the center and it encourages interaction among the community, the school and the center. It consists of ten to twenty members that are made up of students, parents, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I spoke to Amanda at the end of my shift about the incident and my concerns about the verbal allegations. I ve written a brief summary of the event. Roughly 35 30 minutes left for the shift. We had received an email on the new closing call protocol and a few of us were discussing the verbiage. Mac and I were discussing how we could put in place the new closing into our statements during our 0800 1400 calls. While we were discussing this, Jasmine turned to me and asked what I was doing. I answer that I was working, and asked if she needed my help anything. She responded with no , but that I looked like I wasn t working and implied that I should be on the phone taking calls. If memory serves me correct, if you aren t busy you should be ready. She then asked if I was even on the phone. This was the first day that a few of us were told not to be in the phones, so I was not logged in to take calls. I told her I was finishing up some work and I did not engage after I replied. I turned to my computer to complete an email on the dispute inbox. I was following up on it being cleared and let Bobbie Jo and Art know that I left a few emails in there until Monday. While I was finishing this, Mac was voicing her concerns about forgetting the new closing and not being able to complete in the closing of the call. As I was replying to this statement, Jasmine again told ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 55. Franchising Is An Important Industry INTRODUCTION The idea of franchising has been a thought that dates all the way back to the middle ages when landowners would grant peasants to hunt, hold fairs, and hold markets on their land. It was not until 1858 that franchising became an important industry. Today, franchising is still one of the largest industries in existence ( The History Of Franchising, n.d.). Franchising is an agreement between a party (Franchisor) who gives the privilege to another individual (Franchisee) to own, manage, and run his or her business in another place with certain expenses that the franchisee is responsible for and laws that the franchisee must abide by. Over the years, franchising has become very important to the economy. When franchising is done... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If in the future the franchisee and franchisor are not seeing eye to eye it can open up conflicts which can ultimately hurt their brand. The Importance of the Franchisor Franchising is quite different than other industries because two entrepreneurs are involved in it and their relationship is vital for success. The franchisee needs the right tools, guidance, and a respectable amount of money in order for him or her to generate the appropriate profits to make the franchise worth the investment.
