Clientele or Population Served:
There is no certain criteria or population served as anything can happen at any moment where your child may potentially have to be removed from your home. Often, it is families with low incomes which can sometimes result to not having the resources to provide for their children.
Job Activities/Professional Roles:
As a social worker I’m always accessing and making sure the children are safe in their home.
Required to see children and families once a month but she sees her families many times throughout the month to build a relationship with them by attending events they me involved in.
The social worker I interviewed is in the foster care unit so her main purpose is finding permanent placement for the children if they unfortunately will not be reunited with their biological parents.
Working close with parents to ensure they complete their case plans in order to get their children back in their home.
Why Social Work?
In high school and while in college, she mainly worked in retail positions. She always knew that she wanted to be a social worker or counselor. She has a passion to help people in need as well as a love of working with kids. It is a rewarding profession once a child/children are in their forever homes or reunited with their families.
Opportunities for Advancement/Professional Development:
There are many chances in moving up in this profession. There’s many different roles you can indulge in but still be a help to the families as well as the community. For example, becoming a Supervisor, Trainer, Administrator, etc.
For professional development, all staff have opportunities to learn new/updated rules/regulations as it refers to the job and what they do daily. For example, there would be new training on ethics, HIPAA, certain protocols, court hearings, etc.)
She also asks her supervisor/directors for critique often to see how she can be more effective in her career.
Self Care:
A couple of strategies she learned is first to UNPLUG!
When you get home, unplug from work; unplug from your work your devices (unless you are on-call).
Do not check emails, calls, texts, etc. it is very hard to do, but that is how you start to experience burn out if you are constantly on the move and never just taking a break.
If she is not on call once she gets home, she turns her phone off (weekends as well) You have to set boundaries or people will take advantage of you and your time. Spend time with your friends, family, do what you like to do in order to have a balance.

The mission of DFCS is to access the well being and permanency of children. We strive to build stronger families and communities.
Clientele or Population Served:
There is no certain criteria or population served as anything can happen at any moment where your child may potentially have to be removed from your home. Often, it is families with low incomes which can sometimes result to not having the resources to provide for their children.
Job Activities/Professional Roles:
As a social worker I’m always accessing and making sure the children are safe in their home.
Required to see children and families once a month but she sees her families many times throughout the month to build a relationship with them by attending events they me involved in.
The social worker I interviewed is in the foster care unit so her main purpose is finding permanent placement for the children if they unfortunately will not be reunited with their biological parents.
Working close with parents to ensure they complete their case plans in order to get their children back in their home.
Why Social Work?
In high school and while in college, she mainly worked in retail positions. She always knew that she wanted to be a social worker or counselor. She has a passion to help people in need as well as a love of working with kids. It is a rewarding profession once a child/children are in their forever homes or reunited with their families.
Opportunities for Advancement/Professional Development:
There are many chances in moving up in this profession. There’s many different roles you can indulge in but still be a help to the families as well as the community. For example, becoming a Supervisor, Trainer, Administrator, etc.
For professional development, all staff have opportunities to learn new/updated rules/regulations as it refers to the job and what they do daily. For example, there would be new training on ethics, HIPAA, certain protocols, court hearings, etc.)
She also asks her supervisor/directors for critique often to see how she can be more effective in her career.
Self Care:
A couple of strategies she learned is first to UNPLUG!
When you get home, unplug from work; unplug from your work your devices (unless you are on-call).
Do not check emails, calls, texts, etc. it is very hard to do, but that is how you start to experience burn out if you are constantly on the move and never just taking a break.
If she is not on call once she gets home, she turns her phone off (weekends as well) You have to set boundaries or people will take advantage of you and your time. Spend time with your friends, family, do what you like to do in order to have a balance.

Java is for many years one of the most popular programming languages, but it used to have hard times in the Serverless community. Java is known for its high cold start times and high memory footprint, comparing to other programming languages like Node.js and Python. In this talk I'll look at the general best practices and techniques we can use to decrease memory consumption, cold start times for Java Serverless development on AWS including GraalVM (Native Image) and AWS own offering SnapStart based on Firecracker microVM snapshot and restore and CRaC (Coordinated Restore at Checkpoint) runtime hooks. I'll also provide a lot of benchmarking on Lambda functions trying out various deployment package sizes, Lambda memory settings, Java compilation options and HTTP (a)synchronous clients and measure their impact on cold and warm start times.
Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity server
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).

zkStudyClub - LatticeFold: A Lattice-based Folding Scheme and its Application...
Folding is a recent technique for building efficient recursive SNARKs. Several elegant folding protocols have been proposed, such as Nova, Supernova, Hypernova, Protostar, and others. However, all of them rely on an additively homomorphic commitment scheme based on discrete log, and are therefore not post-quantum secure. In this work we present LatticeFold, the first lattice-based folding protocol based on the Module SIS problem. This folding protocol naturally leads to an efficient recursive lattice-based SNARK and an efficient PCD scheme. LatticeFold supports folding low-degree relations, such as R1CS, as well as high-degree relations, such as CCS. The key challenge is to construct a secure folding protocol that works with the Ajtai commitment scheme. The difficulty, is ensuring that extracted witnesses are low norm through many rounds of folding. We present a novel technique using the sumcheck protocol to ensure that extracted witnesses are always low norm no matter how many rounds of folding are used. Our evaluation of the final proof system suggests that it is as performant as Hypernova, while providing post-quantum security.

Apps Break Data
How information systems are built or acquired puts information, which is what they should be about, in a secondary place. Our language adapted accordingly, and we no longer talk about information systems but applications. Applications evolved in a way to break data into diverse fragments, tightly coupled with applications and expensive to integrate. The result is technical debt, which is re-paid by taking even bigger "loans", resulting in an ever-increasing technical debt. Software engineering and procurement practices work in sync with market forces to maintain this trend. This talk demonstrates how natural this situation is. The question is: can something be done to reverse the trend?

Earnings The median (average) annual earnings for ALL social workers: .$46,220 Child, family, and school social workers: $39,530 Medical and public health social workers: $46,650 Mental health and substance abuse social workers: $37,210 All other social workers: $46,220 The feeling of helping someone in need PRICELESS!
- 3. Educational Requirements The most common minimum requirement of all social workers is a Bachelor’s degree. May require majors in related subject such as psychology or sociology.
- 4. Entry Level Positions Entry level positions: Bachelor’s degree is necessary. Master’s degree in social work or related field may be required for certain positions.
- 5. Nature of Work Question: What do social workers do exactly? Answer: MANY THINGS! Too many to list, but let’s try! Help improve people’s lives Assist people in coping and solving issues in everyday lives Help family and personal problems Help counsel relationships Help clients who face a disability or life-threatening diseases Help clients deal with inadequate housing, unemployment, or substance abuse Assist families that have serious domestic conflicts Deal with child or spousal abuse Conduct research Advocate and improve services Can You Find It? What is the number one thing that all social workers provide, no matter what field they work in? Hint: It’s the most used word on this page!! If you said ‘Help’, you’d be right!
- 6. Working Conditions Social workers spend most of their time in their offices or residential facility They can travel locally and visit clients, meet with service providers, or attend meetings Understaffing and large caseloads are two factors that add pressure in some agencies Full-time social workers work a standard 40-hour week, however, some work evenings and weekends (Not so glamorous, but rewarding!)
- 7. Job Outlook Some good news! Social worker employment is expected to GROWfaster than average for all occupations through 2018!! Why? Growing elderly population and an aging baby boom generation will develop a greater demand for social workers in the health and social services. Don’t worry, social workers in private social service agencies: Your employment will grow as well!
- 8. Advantages/Disadvantages to Social Work Advantages: Help improve other’s lives! Have a sense of importance! Use skills and abilities for the greater good! Disadvantages: Stress. Depression. Low income.
- 9. Personal skills and abilities Personally, I believe I am the epitome of the perfect social worker. (I am confident, not cocky!) I have many traits and skills that I found are required in social work. Some personality traits I have are as followed: Compassionate Empathetic Strong Helpful Good at compartmentalizing Can handle stressful situations
- 10. What Can I Do to prepare I can continue making ‘Smile’ bags for the kids who enter the foster care system Take psychology, sociology, and related subjects in college Volunteer in related things such as the soup kitchen or good will
