Verbal Noun
Al-Masdar literally means the source. Masdar is a word that express the abstract
idea of an action. Something close to but not identical to infinitive, to-infinitive or
gerund form in English. That `to do’ or `doing’ form. For instance, I like to swim or I
like swimming. You can say that `to swim’ and `swimming’ are Masdar in Arabic,
that is ََُ‫ح‬‫با‬ ‫ر‬‫س‬‫ل‬‫.ا‬ Masdar is a noun that bears meaning of verb but does not refer
to any tenses (past, present or future). Hence it’s named `verbal Noun’
‫َر‬‫د‬ْ‫ص‬َ‫م‬ of trilateral verb ( ََ‫ل‬َ‫ع‬َ‫ف‬ ) has many patterns. These patterns are based on the
listening. Therefore, the more you will listen to Arabic the more you will be
accustomed to these patterns. However, ‫ر‬َ‫د‬ْ‫ص‬َ‫م‬ of other verbs have measurable
