Loyalty In Antigone By Sophocles
In Antigone, Sophocles introduces the struggle between loyalty to civil law versus familial loyalty and
divine law, which is a central conflict in the play. Antigone has a firm belief in upholding family
values and honoring the gods and deceased by burying her brother. In contrast, Creon wants to do
what is best for the city which is, in his opinion, forbidding the burial of Polynices. Both Antigone and
Creon believe that their point of view is more important, and neither is willing to change perspective,
causing the chain of destructive events in the plot. Loyalty causes the deadly dispute between
Antigone and Creon because of their conflicting perspectives about precedence. Antigone has the
strong belief that loyalty to the dead and to the gods has precedence over all other opinions,
specifically those of Creon. Antigone does not at all care that the one with all governing power has the
most disagreement with her decision to remain devoted to her family below. Since I must please those
below a longer time than the people here, for I shall lie there forever (Sophocles 16). She knows and
understands that time in the mortal world has a limit, however time in the underworld is eternal.
Pleasing Creon and his belief to only stay true to civil laws are of no concern to Antigone, for all she

Better Off Friends Character Analysis
Imagine moving from Los Angeles, California to a small town in Wisconsin and not knowing anyone
at the new school. Anyone in this situation would want to make friends that would accept them in the
new town. This is the position Levi, one of the main characters in Elizabeth Eulberg s Better off
Friends, is in when he starts middle school. Macallan, the other main character, is the person that
befriends Levi, and they become very close very fast. Being a new kid from down south, many people
stereotype Levi because of how he looks and the way he acts, which was normal in Los Angeles where
he used to live, but odd to the people in Wisconsin. For this reason the boys at school did not really
want to hang out with Levi, and that is why he and Macallan become such good friends in a short
amount of time. The two of them could find a lot that they had in common, even though they were
from completely different places. Macallan and Levi were together a lot, so when they hung out just
the two of them, people would think they were dating when they were not. This is the second

Introduction: The method for purifying solids is done by observing the melting point. This is
important because if there is an impure substance the melting point would be depression and the
melting range would be broader. By finding the melting point of a known substance one can then
observe an unknown substance s melting point to see if the points are the same and try to figure out
the unknown.
Experimental Section: The first known substance we used was Biphenyl. 68 degrees Celsius is the

Discussion: In part A the melting points I observed were similar to those of my classmates. During the
first trial the temperature was climbing quickly and the Biphenyl melted quickly. During the next two
trials the Mel temp was set at a lower setting and our melting point was closer to the known melting
point.
Conclusion: I have determined that Unknown E is Acetanilide. The melting point of the mixtures was
very close to the melting point of plain Unknown E. The 2 Chloracetamide and Unknown E s mixture
had to high of a melting point. Based on my results and observations I would conclude that Unknown
E is Acetanilide.

A tipping point is described as that magic moment when an idea, trend, or social behavior crosses a

When transformation started, all student organizations became district wide organizations, so
technically HCC has had seven operational district wide student government organizations for the past

It often makes people think that they have to have the newest items, but an experiment taken on by
Alex Martin proves different. Alex Martin is a resident from Seattle who decided to wear the same
dress for a year in a way to protest against consumerism in the fashion industry (Holt 2). In an
