The Flexible Dieting Program
If you want to lose weight and obtain a body that all the ladies and men would jump off cliffs for, you
must eat clean food! A decent amount of people who weightlift and exercise on a daily basis believe
that in order to lose or gain weight and achieve their desired body, they must eat clean foods. In other
words, they avoid foods that are fried, oily, and high in fats and carbs and only eat foods that are low
in calories, fats, and carbs. They believe that tracking calories, fats, carbs, and proteins, is unnecessary
as long as you eat the right food. By segregating foods into good and bad, they are limited to only so
many foods and eventually; they will become sick of eating the same foods over and over. However,
with flexible dieting, such as (IIFYM), short for If It Fits Your Macros , people can lose or gain weight
by tracking calories, micro and macronutrients. By doing so, they are free to eat whatever they please
as long as they hit their calories, macronutrients, and micronutrients for the day. The flexible dieting
program, IIFYM, is based on an idea that as long as what you are eating hits your macronutrient goals
of fats, carbs, proteins, and fibers, then it is okay to eat it. With that being said, people who track their
calories and macronutrients can eat what they want without feeling guilty about themselves. People
who eat clean often gain weight because they are not tracking the amount of calories they are
consuming and eating clean leads to eating

The Structure Of Dulce Et Decorum Est
World War One World War I began in 1914 and lasted until 1918, after the assassination of Archduke
Franz Ferdinand. Wilfred Owen was one of the young men who decided to enlist, choosing to fight the
fight for England. Through his experience on the battlefield he wrote the poem Dulce et Decorum Est,
as a piece to show people that there is no glory in war; only destruction, decay, and death. Despite the
poem appearing to have a simple structure, it is revealed to be much more complex. Dulce et Decorum
Est appears to follow the iambic pentameter poem construction style, but that is ultimately not the
case. An iambic pentameter style poem should have the set up where there are ten syllables or five feet
in each line, with a stressed and then relaxed word interplay. This poem does not strictly follow this
template. It appears Owen is pretending to follow a normal poem style, only to become erratic,
displaying the destruction of war. The careful construction of the poem through perspective changes,

The second stanzas first line brings you into the action, and you are no longer just viewing the
soldiers, technically, as in the first stanza. Gas! GAS! Quick, boys! An ecstasy of fumbling. (Line 9)
That yell of danger instills an internal panic. The soldiers who were just described as being beggars
and hags are now called boys in this stanza. Quick, boys! (Line 9) Once boys, now soldiers who have
been reduced to almost zombie like characters are clearly brought to life here. In stanza two, Owen
has also changed his verbs or action words. In this stanza, we are no longer in the past tense. We are
now in the moment experiencing and seeing the sights. An ecstasy of fumbling Fitting the clumsy
helmets just in time, But someone still was yelling out and stumbling And flound ring like a man in
fire or lime. (Lines

Osi Model And Open Systems Interconnection Model
There are seven layers in the OSI Model, only four in the TCP/IP model. This is because TCP/IP
assumes that applications will take care of everything beyond the Transport layer. The TCP/IP model
also combines the OSI s Physical and Data Link layers together into the Network Access Layer.
Internet Protocol is not concerned about the hardware underneath, as long as the computer can send IP
packets over the connection. I. INTRODUCTION TCP/IP was developed during the 1960s as part of
the Department of Defense s (DoD) Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) effort to build a
nationwide packet data network. It was first used in UNIX based computers in universities and
government installations. Today, it is the main protocol used in all Internet operations. On the other
hand, the Open Systems Interconnection model (OSI Model) is a conceptual model that characterizes
the internal functions of a communication system by separating it into multiple abstract layers. The
model is a product of the Open Systems Interconnection project at the International Organization for
Standardization (ISO). II. OSI MODEL An open system is a set of protocols that allow any two
different systems to communicate regardless of their underlying structure. The purpose of OSI model
is to show how to facilitate communication between different systems without requiring changes to
the logic of the underlying hardware and software. The OSI model isn t a protocol: it is a model for
understanding and designing

Zoom Quotes
I was a man broken down who gained these extraordinary powers to become free. You. You are the
opposite. You were a free man who was given extraordinary powers and now you must be broken
down. said Zoom, to the Flash. This quote expresses and emphasizes the importance of circumstances
to shaping an individual s character, as it shows that although the hero Flash Barry Allen and Zoom
(Hunter Zolomon) faced similar experience, one individual became a hero a symbol of hope and
justice while the other became a notorious killer. The difference between Zoom and The Flash s
circumstances was that The Flash didn t witness the murder of his mother and his father wasn t the

love, friendship, and hope inspires individuals to become stronger and empowers them which is an

The main objective of this paper is to examine the effects of HIV/AIDS scourge on labour force
productivity of Adamawa state households. 2. Problem Statement The health status of the people in
any country is a critical element in the growth of its economy as well as an important factor in the
overall quality of life. AIDS tend to selectively affect women, youths, which are the vulnerable
groups; it will influence a wide range of social and economic factors. In Adamawa State, agriculture is
the dominant industry; high rate of infection could lead to the stagnation of the industry. Recent
studies have revealed that HIV/AIDS prevalence among women and youths is increasingly worrisome.
The target is the most productive group of the population (15 49 groups). 3. Literature Review and
Conceptual Framework Until the early 1990 s, the empirical economic growth literature focused
exclusively on the role of capital and labour (The later often augmented by schooling and
technological change, but hardly ever on health as a key element of human capital (Baro, 1991). Even
where a relationship has been found between indicators of health and income per capita, it has either
been discounted or thought to be an indication of the impact of economic

What are the ways in which we can keep a check on the number of duplicate packets generated due to
the Flooding Routing technique?.
Answers;
Techniques used to avoid flood duplication.
1. Include HOP COUNTER in the header packet which decrement at each hop along the path
2. Keep tracking of packed that have been flooded, to avoid sending them a second time. Where
Source Router puts a sequence number in each packet it receives from its hosts.
3. Use selective flooding. In selective flooding the routers do not send every incoming packet out on
every output line. Instead packet is sent only on those lines which are approximately going in the right
direction

What is it? Answer:
Store and Forward: Store and Forward switching will wait until the entire frame has arrived prior to
forwarding it. This method stores the entire frame in memory. Once the frame is in memory, the
switch checks the destination address, source address, and the CRC. If no errors are present, the frame
is forwarded to the appropriate port. This process ensures that corrupted or truncated frames do not
affect the destination network. While
Cut Through: Cut Through switching will begin forwarding the frame as soon as the destination
address is identified. The difference between this and Store and Forward is that Store and Forward
receives the whole frame before forwarding. Since frame errors cannot be detected by reading only the
destination address, Cut Through may impact network performance by forwarding corrupted or
truncated frames.
These bad frames can create broadcast storms where in several devices on the network respond to the
corrupted frames simultaneously.

Godspell Critique
This past Thursday, I went to see a performance of Godspell (2012 revised version) at Noblesville
High School. This production was directed by Deborah T. Wittstein and Shantel Morris on Nov. 19th.
Originally conceived and directed by John Michael Tebelak and featuring a tuneful score by Stephen
Schwartz, Godspell was first performed 40 years ago, just a few years ago, October 13, 2011, the
revised version came out. The revival had mixed reviews from critics, but overall a cheery and spirited
atmosphere that wowed the audience with its catchy tunes and current comedic jokes. The Noblesville
High school Performing Arts put on this production and had the same outcome with their audience;

Every single member of the cast kept spirits high, which in turn helped drive the show along. They,
also, did a marvelous job of keeping the illusion of the first time , portraying a clear pantomime to the
audience through nonverbal communication, and good inflection and volume. A good example of this
would be with actress, Katelyn Maudlin, throughout the performance she displayed high spirits
through her use of inflection and volume, all while keeping an illusion of the first time . Another actor
who did a marvelous job was Ben Elliot, who played John the Baptist/Judas, throughout the
production you could see the development of his characters ideas and mentality on subjects being
discussed. For instance, while singing On the Willows , Ben reached a moment at the end of the song
where he let his voice fall into a slight sob. I don t know if this was intending or he used this accident
for this intended use, either way this was most effective in revealing his stance on the crucifixion of
Jesus. All of these aspects of their acting, as a whole, helped keep the show alive and interesting to the
audience. However, some aspects of their acting lacked in a sense that threatened such effectiveness,
yet did not destroy the show altogether. Scene stealing, bad diction and articulation were identifiable
in the performance. Scene stealing was a major negative element that I saw, not only in some of the
chorus, but with some of the principle characters when it was not their main part. Though some of this
scene stealing could be due to an unequal balance of enthusiasm, thus diverting attention onto the
most enthusiastic actors and actresses, it was relevant enough to distract the audience from what they
should have been focusing on. Overall, The actors and actresses of Godspell did a wonderful job and
kept the audience s interest and made them

Brief Summary Of Christopher Browning s Ordinary Men
1 This summary paper on Christopher Browning s Ordinary Men will provide a summary and an
overview of the main ideas of the text while attempting to focus on Browning s overall central
argument which revolves around these seemingly normal and ordinary men and how they were
transformed into murderers due to various elements. The summary paper will also be dedicated to the
overall significance of the book and its significance in relation to the history of the Holocaust as a
whole. Browning s novel is significant in generating a greater awareness towards the Holocaust but
more specifically providing awareness towards who the perpetrators were as Browning provides an in
depth examination into the ordinary men which were transformed into these mass murderers, while
centering his argument on how and why did these normal and seemingly ordinary men transform into
the mass murderers in which they became. The novel also takes the reader into an in depth, detailed
account of the horrific actions of the German battalion towards the innocent Jewish population, as

of alienating oneself from the group or letting down your authority figure or power figure. Browning
also states that the battalion may have had no choice at all and were thrust into becoming murderers
with no room to escape. Lastly, Browning also ties in the psychological aspect as well when

The resident workers fear and hatred of blacks and Italians and vice versa distracts them from their
hatred of the company, and prevents them from bonding together as workers against the Company.
The Company uses racism to their advantage by promoting it, and further prevents unionization of the
workers by showing the union as something new, foreign, and untrustworthy. Unions are forbidden in
the workers contracts, so the workers must meet secretly to discuss the possibility of one. Because
they lack security in their jobs, the workers fear for their lives and creature comforts. The company
promotes this fear by monopolizing housing, forcing workers to live in substandard housing and
making sure that the workers know that if they should lose this housing, they have nowhere else to go,
no place else to live. The company completely controls their physical lives, an indication of slavery.
Keeping the workers in ignorance of their futures forces them to live in constant fear, allowing the
company to easily gain and maintain control.
Politically, the Company controls its workers using fear to enforce its policies. Employing two feudal
knights, or detectives, from the Baldwin/Phelps Detective Agency, the Stone Mountain Coal Company
enforces rules by cruelly instilling fear in their workers. Using scare tactics, such as throwing people
out of their homes, taking their possessions, and

rather special category which might be called Super reality; on the whole one tends to think of realism
in terms of the everyday, the normal, the pragmatic, more crudely, it suggests jackers off, sleeves

Inter Country Adoption Is Becoming More Prevalent Among...
Inter country adoption is becoming more prevalent amongst American citizens. The process of
adopting a child from another country can be tedious, but the very particular precautionary measures
and steps are set in place to ensure not only that the child s best interest are at the center of the
adoption but to also ensure that the adoption is legitimate in both the country of origin and in America.
The process of adopting from countries that have ratified The Hague and non Hague countries are
different and will be outlined below.
The Hague was ratified in 2007 in the United States and outlines the procedure for inter country
adoption for citizens of countries that have adopted it. Before an adoption can take place, it must be
established that the child is adoptable, meaning that the proper authorities have made efforts in pursuit
for the child to be adopted within the country and that the child does not have a suitable family to care
for him. (Article 4) After the child is deemed adoptable, with the child s best interest always at the
forefront, one needs to attain consent in writing from the birth mother and the proper authorities, it is
forbidden for such consent to be induced by payment of any sort. (Article 4) Also, after weighing the
factors of the child s age and maturity, the child needs to be counseled, his wishes and opinions need
to be considered, and only after he has freely consented without any form of bribe, then the process
can continue. (Article 4)

Problems That Led to the Wrongful Conviction of David...
How to appropriately and fairly carry out criminal justice matters is something that every country
struggles with. A major reason for this struggle is the fallibility of the justice system. It is acceptable to
concede that the possibility of human error in every case and investigation may lead to a wrongful
conviction. In the case of David Milgaard, however, Canada s Criminal Justice System not only erred,
but failed grievously, resulting in millions of dollars wasted, in a loss of public confidence in the
system, and most tragically, in the robbery of two decades of one man s life. Factors including, but not
limited to, the social context at the time of the crime, the social perception of deviance, the influence
of the media, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result of these moral panics, it is extremely safe to label such individuals as those engaging in
criminal activity.
Labeling played an important role in the initial arrest of David Milgaard. Police officers, as members
of society, often use character discrimination in identifying suspects. Unfortunately, the police likely
began the investigation with a particular image of the suspect in mind, an image established by the
elite members of society whom essentially determine what a deviant is. Regrettably, David Milgaard
happened to fit the mold. The stigma that Milgaard would carry for next twenty seven years of his life
would be that of a rapist and murderer. The issue with labeling is that Milgaard felt no one would ever
look at him in any other way than as a criminal. This was affirmed by the rejection of his final appeal
to the Supreme Court of Canada. As a result, Milgaard attempted numerous times to escape prison and
commit suicide; he felt as though society had given up on him. Ironically, his escape from prison was
his only actual criminal act, but it led to an even greater public perception of his criminality. Even
upon his release in April of 1992, he was not formally acquitted. (CBC/radio Canada) It was no until
July, 1997, upon the discovery of new DNA evidence that cleared Milgaard s name, that he received
an apology from the Saskatchewan government for his wrongful conviction and the label was
removed (CBC/radio Canada). It was not until

The Problem With Social Security Trust Fund
The problem with Social Security trust fund is that at the present time there is more credit in the trust
fund than is required for payment of Social Security benefits. By 2027 revenue coming into the trust
fund will fall below the level of being paid out, and by 2040 the trust fund will be depleted
(Quadagno, 2014). Meaning there will be not enough money from payroll taxes to pay all the benefits
that are promised to citizens. This puts everyone who is going to enter retirement in jeopardy. Even
though everyone has a right to deserve benefits in retirement I feel more people should take control
over their own funds. Some of the reasons that this could have happened is because of the aging of the
baby boomers. Another reason is because the population growth slowed since 1960 when women
decided to have fewer children. The last reason this could have happened is because people are living
longer than the old days. The baby boomer generations are beginning retirement, this creates a
dramatic amount of people who are needed to use the trust fund. In 1960 there were five workers for
every single retiree. By 2025 that ratio will fall to 2.2 (Quadagno, 2014). The problem with this is the
policy makers do not know how to solve the problem. The two ways that policy makers are trying is to
either see if the solution will preserve the basic framework of Social Security as a program or
insurance or whether the American welfare state will shift the balance toward more social

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Arthritis
The pain and associated symptoms related to gout can be quite severe although mild at the outset. The
following characteristics of the disease are utilized in the diagnosis and development of a treatment
strategy in the patient (Roberts, 2010; De Miguel et al., 2012):
1. Onset: pain and swelling can occur rapidly with little prior indication but mostly in the middle of
the night
2. Location: the pain and swelling associated with gout occurs most often in the hallux or big toe
(podagra) but also commonly appears in the ankle areas, knees, elbows and wrists
3. Duration: the flare ups of acute pain associated with gout may last hours, days or weeks in
advanced cases
4. Characteristics: pain is usually acute and sharp in character
5. Aggravating factors: cold weather, comorbidities such as rheumatoid arthritis
6. Relieving factors: application of heat pads, changes in diet
7. Treatment: NSAIDS, corticosteroids, colchicine, uricosurics, xanthine oxidase inhibitors,
pegloticase
Differential Diagnosis Multiple different diagnoses can be mistaken for gout disease or, alternatively,
that can complicate the diagnosis of gout. The most common of these differential diagnoses involve
the development of crystallization in the patient s articulated areas or joints. These various differential
diagnoses are detailed in the next section:
1. Pseudo gout disease: this occurs when calcium pyrophosphate dehydrates (CPPD) accumulates in
the patient s blood serum which leads to crystallization in

The Way Wordsworth and Heaney Present Nature and Rural...
The Way Wordsworth and Heaney Present Nature and Rural Life in Their Poetry
Born 1770, in Cockermouth, William Wordsworth spent his early life and many of his formative years
attending a boys school in Hawkshead, a village in the Lake District. As can be seen in his poetry, the
years he spent living in these rural surroundings provided many of the valuable experiences
Wordsworth had as he grew up.
At the age of 17, Wordsworth moved south to study at Saint John s College, University of Cambridge.
Later, in 1790, two years after the French Revolution had begun; he took a walking tour through
France and Switzerland on vacation. France obviously captivated Wordsworth s attention, because a

Within his poetry, Wordsworth contemplates the relationship between nature and human life. He
considers his pantheistic beliefs, while realising that nature has many different facets and possesses
the power to have spiritual and emotional impacts on the human form.
Wordsworth achieves this in his poetry by presenting nature in many different ways. This is shown
clearly in the poem, Daffodils where we can see Wordsworth exploring nature as a source of
wonderment; he responds and relates himself to the two underlying themes of memory and
imagination, on a spiritual level. Throughout the poem, it is clear that his focus was not to merely
describe, in the form of a detailed account, how he saw the daffodils and their surroundings, but to
consider the ways in which they affected how he felt that day and looking back when he reflects on
that experience. It has a wistful and nostalgic tone, with a strong feeling of sentiment.
The poem begins with a personal feeling of solitariness and despondency with the opening line, I
wandered lonely as a cloud that floats on high o er vales and hills. Wordsworth uses this simile to
compare himself to a cloud, which has many implications concerning how Wordsworth was feeling
that day. The word, lonely suggests that he felt isolated or simply free and

The Urban Revolution started around 6,000 years ago, after 3,500 BCE, with the transition from
Neolithic cultures to the establishment of the first of six different independent civilizations. Each of
these civilizations arose independently from each other, were distinctly pristine in their beginnings,
and principally located on or near major river tributaries and watersheds. They include the Tigris and
Euphrates river basin known as Mesopotamia, which is present day Iraq, the Nile River basin in
Egypt, the Indus Valley, and Ganges River systems in India; the Yangtze and Yellow Rivers in China

Summary Of Minorities In The Rise Of The Rocket Girls
To be treated as lesser or unworthy is a terrible thing. What happened to all men are created equal ? I
guess that only applies if you are a straight, white man. A minority is a part of a population differing
from others in some characteristics and are often subjected to different treatment. That said, minorities
were mistreated and shoved to the back of history. In Aria by Richard Rodriguez the Rodriguez family
feel what it means to be a minority in their everyday life. They re held at arm s length by the people
around them, and struggle to assimilate. In Rise of the Rocket Girls by Nathalia Holt it s not race that
sets these women behind. It is simply the fact that they are women. In both novels society is
presenting more challenges to a certain group, but that does not stop them. Even today minorities are
still at a disadvantage. That does not stop people from pursuing their goals and dreams. As a student
perseverance is needed because you cannot give up easily or you just will not make it. Aria has many

Easter Island Research Paper
Easter Island is a remote volcanic island in Polynesia that is well known for its giant moai statues
jotted all along it. Many scientists come to Easter Island to study how and why the statues were made.
These statues have an average weight of about 20 tons and an average height of 20 feet. Historians are
not sure how the native people of Easter Island, also formally known as Rapa Nui, were able to drag
and place these large statues in their intended locations, but the most commonly accepted theory is
that the people used long pieces of ropes to drag these statues to their places. The Moai statues were
carved from the solid volcanic ash of the volcano Rano Raraku. They were then taken to quarries on
top of the volcanoes, where the people used ropes to hold the statues at a 45° angle so they could be
carved even more in more detail. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then, when the statues were at their resting place, they were lifted up onto a platform called an ahu.
The ahus were also used as the burial place for the person who the statue was built for. Once placed
atop the platform, eye cavities were carved into the head and they added eyes made of coral and red
scoria stone. This was the process by which all of the island s 887 statues were made. It was an
advanced method for people to use in 900 A.D. The Moai statues show the advancing culture of the
Rapa Nui people. The first ones that were made were very short and stout, but the statues made more
recently were very large and slender. The statues tell a lot about the native people s culture, since they
show the religion of the people and their way of demonstrating their social

Russia s Annexation Of The Crimean Region Of Ukraine
In response to Russia s annexation of the Crimean region of Ukraine and ongoing military intervention
in eastern Ukraine, the United States has imposed a number of economic sanctions on Russia s
financial, energy and defence sectors (The White House, 2014). The measures imposed by the United
States are expected to increase Russia s political isolation as well as increasing the economic costs to
Russia (The White House, 2014). Russia is a major player in the international economy: it has the
world s ninth largest economy, is home to a population of more than 140 million, and is a major
producer and exporter of natural gas and oil (Nelson, 2015). The Russian economy is predicted to
contract by 3.0% in 2015, however, it is difficult to assess whether targeted U.S. sanctions on Russian
individuals and entities have contributed to worsening economic conditions in Russia (Nelson, 2015).
This essay will look at the financial and energy sanctions, along with the counter sanctions imposed
by Russia, along with the bilateral effects on trade. Daoudi and Dajani (1983) define sanctions to be
unilateral or collective action against a state considered to be violating international law and are
designed to compel the state to conform . Firstly, the essay will look at the effects of the US sanctions
on the financial sector of Russia, before looking at the effects on the energy sector. Finally, the essay
will look at the effects of the Russian counter sanction on the import of food and

Theseus A Midsummer Night s Dream
Despite the numerous physical contrasts between the forest and Athens in William Shakespeare s A
Midsummer Night s Dream, the two settings symbolically are very similar. Coupling the two locations
allows the play to question the idea of actuality versus dreams. Throughout the play, Shakespeare
juxtaposes Theseus Court with nature to parallel reality and fantasy, and resolve the obvious
differences between the two in order to illustrate that elements of reality are present in fantasy.
The two settings, at first glance, are strikingly divergent. Athens represents reason and wisdom, which
is representative of reality. It is named after the Greek God Athena, the goddess of wisdom. By setting

Despite these clashing characteristics, there are countless similarities between the events that take
place in each local. One connection between the two can be seen through Hippolyta and Titania.
Although it is evident that Hippolyta is a victim of misogyny, Titania s experience with patriarchy is
less evident. Both Oberon and Theseus earn love from their partners by conquering them in oe sense
or another. Theseus, ...wooed [Hippolyta] with [his] sword, and won [her] love by doing [her] injuries,
whereas Oberon manipulates Titania with a spell (Shakespeare 1.1 17 18). In the end, both men obtain
what they desire, whether it be a child or marriage, and the women must abide their decision. These
two characters are often double cast to represent this relationship. By making this choice, the director
and cast heighten a pre existing (if subtle) parallel between the two characters and their positions and
thus representing the appearance of reality, even in dreams (Colborn 77). The same is true of the
opposite because, Hippolyta, by nature, is representative of the exotic and unknown (Colborn 79). She
is not a true Athenian and therefore has qualities that defy those set for her in reality. This is similar to
how even though the reality of misogyny in the forest is very apparent, she is still able to possess
tremendous power as the Fairy Queen. Hippolyta s Amazonian culture, ...differ from the Renaissance
ideals of womanhood in their complete uninterest in an erotic appeal governed by male desire (Pastor
Sousa 12). This helps define her as an aspect of the unpredictableness of dreams. These two characters
are one way that Shakespeare demonstrates the direct relation between fantasy and reality, and how
aspects of both are apparent in each

The Acceptance Of The Green Girdle In Sir Gawain s
Sir Gawain s acceptance of the green girdle and refusal to hand it over to Bertilak is Sir Gawain s first
renege upon the rules of the game that he consented to, it again creates an awareness of the
weaknesses within the character of Sir Gawain. He was, up until the point where he accepted the
agreement with the lord s wife to leave Bertilak in the dark about the girdle, behaving as chivalrous as
would seem possible considering the curious circumstances of having to be courteous to the lord s
wife who is propositioning herself to him and also remain faithful to his host, coupled with the rules of
their game. It is Sir Gawain s natural and human fear of death that causes him to accept the

Religious Beliefs In Judaism
Judaism Beliefs Sacred Symbols
Beliefs
Judaism is one of the most traditional religions there are. It is under the Monotheistic religions,
meaning they are in the belief that there is a single G d, unlike other religions that believe in multiple
G ds. As well as Judaism, Christianity and Islam practise the monotheistic form.
There are many other things that the people of the Judaism religion believe in. Some of these include;
Prayer is to be directed to G d alone and to no other, the words of the prophets are true, Moses
prophecies are true, and Moses was the greatest of the prophets, The Written Torah (first 5 books of

good and punish the bad, the Messiah will come and also the dead will be resurrected. While Judaism
isn t the strictest of religions, they do still follow quite a strong list of beliefs and regulations.
The history behind the different beliefs that Jewish people have, and follow, all revolves around the
scriptures written in their holy book , the Torah. Some of the different beliefs that the Jewish people

Accounting profit = $25 million; economic loss = $5 million c. Accounting profit = $10 million;
economic loss = $10 million d. Accounting loss = $25,000; economic loss = $75,000 4. (Alternative
Measures of Profit) Why is it reasonable to think of normal profit as a type of cost to the firm? Recall
that firms produce output using four kinds of resources natural resources, labor, capital, and
entrepreneurial ability. The owner of the firm supplies some of the resources that the firm employs.
Normal profit is the return to the entrepreneurial ability and other resources supplied by the firm s
owners. If this profit is not as large as those individuals could earn in their best alternative situation,
they will switch the resources to that alternative. So, we can think of normal profit as being the
minimum return, or cost, that is necessary to keep the firm running. 5. (Short Run Versus Long Run)
What distinguishes a firm s short run period from its long run period? In the short run, at least one of
the firm s resources is fixed, usually the size of the firm. In the long run, all the resources are variable.
That is, the quantities of all resources can change to alter the firm s level of output, including the size
of the firm. 6. (Law of Diminishing Marginal Returns) As a farmer, you must decide how many times

Where it all began
The Greeks and Romans were the first to use it. It was considered a luxury good in the American
Colonies. The White House was even painted with it. Lead based paint was a hot item. It was durable,
flexible and weather resistant. The use of white lead pigment peaked in 1922. While the primary
public health concerns were things like tuberculosis and Spanish influenza, the extremely washable
lead based paint seemed like a great alternative to germ harboring wallpaper. Continuing into the
1950s, the U.S. government overwhelmingly recommended the use of lead based paints.

The test took two days just to analyze a sample. This made the test unsuitable for larger scale testing
in communities. The technology that enabled community wide screenings for blood lead levels
became available in the mid 1960s. This allowed health officials to depart from relying on painfully
obvious symptoms such as pale skin, slurred speech, loss of appetite and cognitive deficits.
The first ban on lead paint
The first restriction on the use of lead paint in the U.S. came about in 1951 when the Baltimore Public
Health Department issued a ban on its use as interior paint. Since then, the restrictions on the use of
lead paint have come a long way. In 1978, paint containing more than .06% lead (in the dry product)
was banned for residential use in the United States.
Why so much focus on children?
If you look through the federal rules concerning lead paint, you will see that the lion s share of
defining standards are all about buildings inhabited by children. Aside from the obvious need to
protect our children, this is because children are more susceptible to the effects of lead poisoning. For
example, a child s cerebral membrane is still largely permeable until the age of

The Performance Of The Professional Sports Entertainment...
The Destruction of Competitiveness with the Over Usage of Participatory Awards
In a world where athletes get paid the most that they ever have and the workforce is the most
competitive, participation awards are hindering the ability for fairness and impartiality to grow and for
humans to flourish. Society is becoming a place where everyone is looked at equally, truly eliminating
being unique and taking away individualism, fairness and teamwork. By doing this, people with great
powers and capabilities in the general populace are being left behind and denied ability to achieve
their own personal greatness. Without this chance to strive, they will be left feeling complacent and
never be able to flourish their abilities and strengths. The workforce lose a higher level employee, with
the middle class never learning the traits taught through competition. These workers will never push
themselves and expect to be rewarded solely for showing up to work. The professional sports
entertainment market will also have a smaller pool of great athletes to choose from which leads to
more teams not performing at a high enough level with cities losing teams and athletes losing jobs.
The concept of teamwork will slowly disappear leaving a trail of individualistic yet equal members of
society. Competition and fair play are losing ground to the freshly remodeled idea of participation
awards, slowly devaluing the need to strive for greatness and creating a society focused on over
equality

Sexuality and Desire in Jane Austen s Mansfield Park
In a letter to her brother dated 1814, Jane Austen boasted about a compliment she had received from a
friend on her most recent work, Mansfield Park: It s the most sensible novel he s ever read (263).
Austen prided herself on creating literature that depicted realistic characters and honest situations, but
perhaps more importantly, she strove to create fiction that was moral and instructional as well as
entertaining. So what does sensible say about the sexual? In Mansfield Park, the answer appears
blaringly before us, as we repeatedly witness sexuality and desire represented in the darkest of terms,

Mary is remarkably pretty (35) and wins the Bertrams over with her lively dark eye, clear brown

momentarily) sees Maria and Julia as conquests, women to be won over just for the sake of doing so.
Mary, however, is sincere in her emotions toward Edmund (at least, as sincere as Mary Crawford
could ever be), but the combination of Edmund s desire for her and her own seductive nature makes
her a precarious character.
Perhaps Mary s biggest problem is that she is too knowledgeable for her own good. Her skepticism
and cynical attitude often seem out of place at the naïve and sheltered Mansfield Park, particularly
when compared to the ideological views of Edmund. Unlike Edmund, who is strikingly ignorant about
the matter, Mary becomes preoccupied with understanding Fanny s position in society, and subsequent

Comparing Bradstreet, Edward Taylor, And Jonathan Edwards
Puritans believed in hard work and pleasing God. Therefore in this essay I will be comparing and
contrasting three Puritan writings that were written by Anne Bradstreet, Edward Taylor, and Jonathan
Edwards. Their writings express perspectives of Puritan beliefs, however the differences in the
writings show the variations between the purpose of their writings, the language, and the tone. In this
essay I will first look at Bradstreet s poem, second I ll review Taylor s poem, third I will analyze
Edward s sermon, and finally I will state the similarities between the three.
Bradstreet wrote her poems for the sole purpose to pass time, and she had no intention to have them
published. Her poems also differ from the other two author s writings because her poems were stolen
and published by her brother in law without her consent. Her writing style is different form the other
two because she uses an inversed writing style. For example instead of saying I was wakened with a

So now it s life. Money is life. Once upon a time freedom used to be life now it s money. I guess the

Sun as she effectuated her role as the superior head of the Younger family. In order to truly decipher
what the author wishes to share through the eyes of this character, it is important to take a thorough
and insightful analysis of her. By closely evaluating her role in the family, what she wants, her

Knowing what your body needs is important to weight management and can control overconsumption
and under consumption of food. Weight management does not include fad diets that promote quick,
temporary weight loss. Instead, it focuses on the long term results that are achieved through slow
weight loss, followed by retention of an ideal body weight for age, sex, and height. Weight gain is so
complicated, that there are so many variables out there to manipulate weight gain. However, the key
factor is no other than an unbalanced diet. People nowadays take too much sugar and salt. They prefer
oily food over steamed ones, and take fast food as regular meals. More and more people are beginning
to inculcate processed food as a part of their daily life. Excessive intake of certain macronutrients like
carbohydrates also contributes to weight gain. Thus, we must be careful with what we eat as our diet
associates with the development of our health. It has been a mystery of all times that, even though
most men eat more than women, they still gain less weight, but burns more fat. The answer lies within
the biological differences between men and women. On average, women s total energy expenditure is
around five to ten percent lower than men s (The Weight Watchers Research Department Article). In
the other hand, difference in physical activities always causes men to be more active compared to
women. Men too have higher metabolic rate, makes them to burn fat

II. One event that followed the bombing of Pearl Harbor that majorly affected the outcome of the war
was the creation of Japanese internment camps. Japanese internment camps were similar to German
camps for the Jewish, but were not nearly as harsh. Americans were wrong in making the decision to
create Japanese internment camps during World War II.
On December 7, 1941, the Japanese bombed the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor. This
bombing killed many Americans, destroyed one American battleship, and capsized another. A total of
twelve ships were either sank or beached, and nine more were damaged. The attack also destroyed and

In 1948, Congress passed a law that provided reimbursement for any property lost by those interned.
In 1988, Congress gave restitution payments of $20,000 to survivors of the camps.
There were many decisions made during World War II that were far worse than Japanese internment
camps. Even so, Japanese internment camps were a bad decision on America s part during World War
II. Eventually, America realized how awful of a decision it was and reimbursed the still living
Japanese Americans that were interned, but it was years after the war, and was not enough to make up
for internment. Japanese Internment camps were one of the worst decisions made by America during
World War II, and no decision like it should be made by America ever

Kindertransport Research Paper
The Kindertransport was a series of transports from Nazi Germany to Great Britain that lasted from
1938 to 1940. The Kindertransport was able to save over 10,000 jewish childrens lives from the
harshness of the Holocaust. The jewish children left their families and traveled to Great Britain where
they were placed with foster families or in group homes. There were many ways that the children were
transported. Also, there were many other outside forces that allowed for the kindertransport to happen.
After the children were brought to Great Britain, they lived many different lives. Through the help of
British Parliament and the forces of their allies, the Kindertransport was able to save the lives of many
children, whom otherwise could have died during the Holocaust. Before the Holocaust had even
begun, forces were working against the Nazi s to help aid the Jewish people. Many jewish people were
stranded in Nazi Germany because there were not many countries willing to offer them refuge. The
United States president of the time, Franklin Roosevelt, proposed that a conference should be held to
discuss what action should be taken. In 1938, representitives from 32 countries in the surrounding area

british militray was in charge of the whole operation. Many organizations participated in these
rescues, but Britain took control of it. The first transport arrived in Britain on December 2 1938. It

Comuting Using Motorcycle Or Car
Commuting using Motorcycles or Car, one of the most discussed topics between car goers and
motorcycle goers and also the ones in between. Discussions between each side always end up with
different ideas about the following: Time, Costs, Safety, Fun factor.
In the city, roads are narrow with no more than three lanes and filled with traffic lights and stop signs,
because of that cars usually get held up by traffic and leads to congestion. This phenomenon usually
leads to an effect commonly called late to work . With that in mind, motorcycle commuting saves time
because they are allowed to filter traffic in a congested condition (different rules may apply for
different countries). A testimony by a motorcycle magazine editor theoretically calculated he saved up
to 24 hours each month just by commuting on motorcycles in San Francisco, one of the megalopolises
in Northern California. @testimony san fran On the other part of the world, in Sydney AUS, a race
type study was done by The Herald, local newspaper publisher. Purpose of the race was to find out
which mode of transport is the fastest way from North Shore towards the Parliament House on
Macquarie Street during peak hours. The race includes a car, bicycle, scooter, on foot and public
transport (bus and train). The winner was scooter with only 25minutes and 12 minutes faster than a
car. This shows that motorcycle saves almost 50 percent of the time spent in the car in traffic.

Near-Death Experience Theory
Death is something every human is afraid of. We know it will happen sooner or later; it is inevitable.
Death takes away loved ones, it takes away people that are so important to us. So many people have
gone through near death experiences, which is why those people look at life like it is so precious.
Spiritual and physiological hypotheses are about near death experiences. While there are some
differences between a spiritual hypothesis and a physiological hypothesis, the similarities are evident.
According to Oxford Dictionary, a near death experience is an unusual experience taking place on the
brink of death and recounted by a person after recovery, typically and out of body experience or a
vision of a tunnel of light . According to howstuffworks.com, ... Show more content on

Although this illness usually only attacks newborns, it got into his system, pervaded through his

of recovery. He was in a deep coma for seven days, and his brain function completely offline. Then,
on the seventh day, when the doctors discussed whether or not they should continue treatment, his E.
coli started to respond and his eyes popped open. Dr. Alexander described his near death experience to
be full of light, with many spiritual beings, and the whole place was filled with love and peace.

Sui Dynasty
In China, after the fall of the classical period, it was put in a state of chaos and confusion since there
was no apparent ruler. There were different leaders that would take place for when China would
restore its power, and there were mainly three the Sui, Tang, and Song, in that particular order. China
was revived in the 6th century but was abused for about four centuries. The Sui dynasty began to rise
because of a fight against Chinese control during early 580. Wendi, a northern Chinese noble, formed
a marriage alliance with the northern Zhou ruler. Wendi took that empire from his son in law and
received support from surrounding nomads to strengthen his title without Confucian ideals. His
empire spread into northern China. Because of Wendi s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although people could rise to such a high position, birth, family, ethnic, and regional influence also
affected whether or not someone got that position. Positions were mostly reserved for old aristocracy
and low sons and grandsons that belonged to the imperial household. Most nomadic pre Tang rulers
were Buddhist. After the Han fall, Buddhist divisions grew in China and were specially modified with
Chinese qualities, especially in the Tang dynasty. Daoist monks and Confucius scholar administrators
were against Buddhist ideas, and they made sure that the ruler knew that the monastery was not taxed,
meaning less money, and the people of those monastic lands could not get work, which means on
taxing or enlisting. By the mid 8th century, there was panic for the rulers since there were limited
resources, especially after donating much to Buddhism, therefore demolishing Buddhist monasteries
and shrines, and monks and nuns had to forsake their monastic orders and become civilians again. The
Tang empire disappeared after, at the end of the 9th century, the last emperor was forced to resign.

Earth Pollution Essay
The earth is 4.543 billion years old, our ancestors are estimated to date back to six million years, with
modern human life dating back to 200,000 years ago (Reed). The effects of humanity on earth can be
displayed by the increase of pollution within our ecosphere. As our population continues to increase,
so does our carbon footprint upon the earth. On a more localized scale, the Central Valley is a mecca
of poor air quality and elevating pollution levels. An assortment of environmental factors increases
these pollution levels. The Central Valley is a hub for the climate, natural, industrial, mobile, and
agricultural components that equate to this growing pollution problem.
Pollution, otherwise known as PM, or particulate matter, which is essentially any substance that is not
made up of water. PM is most commonly made of dust, ash, smoke, fumes, vapors and mists, emitted
from a source and absorbed into the ozone. Particulate matter that is produced directly from a source,
is called primary PM. Particulate matter that is formed in the atmosphere, by gas, is called secondary
PM. There are two certified health based standards, classifying particulate matter: PM10, for particles
smaller than 10 microns, and PM2.5, for particles smaller than 2.5. Common PM10 is made up of
more course particles, sources include: crushing or grinding operations, soil stirred up in our valley s
vast fields, and dirt roads. PM2.5 is composed of finer particles created by elements most commonly

Teaching And Maintain Trusting Relationships With Peers,...
Guiding children s behaviour
Focus: Supporting children to build and maintain trusting relationships with peers, and to foster their
social skills.
Stimulus behaviour: Mahir (3 years old) actively participating in regular routine and play experience
on his own, with minimal or no interaction with others. Mahir demonstrate he has the verbal language
skills when he is pretend play with toy cars, and he shows receptive language skills when interact with
educators. However, Mahir s use of language in interaction is limited, he requires improvement in
language skill in order to develop better quality friendship (Porter, 2016). Mahir display solitary play
throughout the day, he was fully engaged in the activity by himself. When other children talks to
Mahir or initiate to play with him, Mahir does not seem to notice other children, and maintains focus
on what is he doing. According to Porter (2016), at age 2 3 years, children begin to seek out peers in
earnest and they are more able to initiate interactions (p. 157). Those evidence of social play
development was absent in Mahir s case, as he display the preference to play alone. Being socially
isolated over time can have negative impact on children. For example, depression or reactive
aggression (Porter, 2016). Conversely, positive relationship are beneficial to children s developments
(Porter, 2016). Therefore, it is important to support Mahir s social development.

  • 2. The Flexible Dieting Program If you want to lose weight and obtain a body that all the ladies and men would jump off cliffs for, you must eat clean food! A decent amount of people who weightlift and exercise on a daily basis believe that in order to lose or gain weight and achieve their desired body, they must eat clean foods. In other words, they avoid foods that are fried, oily, and high in fats and carbs and only eat foods that are low in calories, fats, and carbs. They believe that tracking calories, fats, carbs, and proteins, is unnecessary as long as you eat the right food. By segregating foods into good and bad, they are limited to only so many foods and eventually; they will become sick of eating the same foods over and over. However, with flexible dieting, such as (IIFYM), short for If It Fits Your Macros , people can lose or gain weight by tracking calories, micro and macronutrients. By doing so, they are free to eat whatever they please as long as they hit their calories, macronutrients, and micronutrients for the day. The flexible dieting program, IIFYM, is based on an idea that as long as what you are eating hits your macronutrient goals of fats, carbs, proteins, and fibers, then it is okay to eat it. With that being said, people who track their calories and macronutrients can eat what they want without feeling guilty about themselves. People who eat clean often gain weight because they are not tracking the amount of calories they are consuming and eating clean leads to eating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Structure Of Dulce Et Decorum Est World War One World War I began in 1914 and lasted until 1918, after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Wilfred Owen was one of the young men who decided to enlist, choosing to fight the fight for England. Through his experience on the battlefield he wrote the poem Dulce et Decorum Est, as a piece to show people that there is no glory in war; only destruction, decay, and death. Despite the poem appearing to have a simple structure, it is revealed to be much more complex. Dulce et Decorum Est appears to follow the iambic pentameter poem construction style, but that is ultimately not the case. An iambic pentameter style poem should have the set up where there are ten syllables or five feet in each line, with a stressed and then relaxed word interplay. This poem does not strictly follow this template. It appears Owen is pretending to follow a normal poem style, only to become erratic, displaying the destruction of war. The careful construction of the poem through perspective changes, random ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. Osi Model And Open Systems Interconnection Model There are seven layers in the OSI Model, only four in the TCP/IP model. This is because TCP/IP assumes that applications will take care of everything beyond the Transport layer. The TCP/IP model also combines the OSI s Physical and Data Link layers together into the Network Access Layer. Internet Protocol is not concerned about the hardware underneath, as long as the computer can send IP packets over the connection. I. INTRODUCTION TCP/IP was developed during the 1960s as part of the Department of Defense s (DoD) Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) effort to build a nationwide packet data network. It was first used in UNIX based computers in universities and government installations. Today, it is the main protocol used in all Internet operations. On the other hand, the Open Systems Interconnection model (OSI Model) is a conceptual model that characterizes the internal functions of a communication system by separating it into multiple abstract layers. The model is a product of the Open Systems Interconnection project at the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). II. OSI MODEL An open system is a set of protocols that allow any two different systems to communicate regardless of their underlying structure. The purpose of OSI model is to show how to facilitate communication between different systems without requiring changes to the logic of the underlying hardware and software. In Adamawa State, agriculture is the dominant industry; high rate of infection could lead to the stagnation of the industry. Recent studies have revealed that HIV/AIDS prevalence among women and youths is increasingly worrisome. The target is the most productive group of the population (15 49 groups). 3. Literature Review and Conceptual Framework Until the early 1990 s, the empirical economic growth literature focused exclusively on the role of capital and labour (The later often augmented by schooling and technological change, but hardly ever on health as a key element of human capital (Baro, 1991). Even where a relationship has been found between indicators of health and income per capita, it has either been discounted or thought to be an indication of the impact of economic ... This method stores the entire frame in memory. Once the frame is in memory, the switch checks the destination address, source address, and the CRC. If no errors are present, the frame is forwarded to the appropriate port. This process ensures that corrupted or truncated frames do not affect the destination network. While Cut Through: Cut Through switching will begin forwarding the frame as soon as the destination address is identified. The difference between this and Store and Forward is that Store and Forward receives the whole frame before forwarding. Since frame errors cannot be detected by reading only the destination address, Cut Through may impact network performance by forwarding corrupted or truncated frames. These bad frames can create broadcast storms where in several devices on the network respond to the corrupted frames simultaneously. • 8. Godspell Critique This past Thursday, I went to see a performance of Godspell (2012 revised version) at Noblesville High School. This production was directed by Deborah T. Originally conceived and directed by John Michael Tebelak and featuring a tuneful score by Stephen Schwartz, Godspell was first performed 40 years ago, just a few years ago, October 13, 2011, the revised version came out. They, also, did a marvelous job of keeping the illusion of the first time , portraying a clear pantomime to the audience through nonverbal communication, and good inflection and volume. A good example of this would be with actress, Katelyn Maudlin, throughout the performance she displayed high spirits through her use of inflection and volume, all while keeping an illusion of the first time . Another actor who did a marvelous job was Ben Elliot, who played John the Baptist/Judas, throughout the production you could see the development of his characters ideas and mentality on subjects being discussed. For instance, while singing On the Willows , Ben reached a moment at the end of the song where he let his voice fall into a slight sob. I don t know if this was intending or he used this accident for this intended use, either way this was most effective in revealing his stance on the crucifixion of Jesus. All of these aspects of their acting, as a whole, helped keep the show alive and interesting to the audience. However, some aspects of their acting lacked in a sense that threatened such effectiveness, yet did not destroy the show altogether. Scene stealing, bad diction and articulation were identifiable in the performance. Scene stealing was a major negative element that I saw, not only in some of the chorus, but with some of the principle characters when it was not their main part. Though some of this scene stealing could be due to an unequal balance of enthusiasm, thus diverting attention onto the most enthusiastic actors and actresses, it was relevant enough to distract the audience from what they should have been focusing on. Overall, The actors and actresses of Godspell did a wonderful job and kept the audience s interest and made them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Brief Summary Of Christopher Browning s Ordinary Men 1 This summary paper on Christopher Browning s Ordinary Men will provide a summary and an overview of the main ideas of the text while attempting to focus on Browning s overall central argument which revolves around these seemingly normal and ordinary men and how they were transformed into murderers due to various elements. The summary paper will also be dedicated to the overall significance of the book and its significance in relation to the history of the Holocaust as a whole. Browning s novel is significant in generating a greater awareness towards the Holocaust but more specifically providing awareness towards who the perpetrators were as Browning provides an in depth examination into the ordinary men which were transformed into these mass murderers, while centering his argument on how and why did these normal and seemingly ordinary men transform into the mass murderers in which they became. As a result of these moral panics, it is extremely safe to label such individuals as those engaging in criminal activity. Labeling played an important role in the initial arrest of David Milgaard. Police officers, as members of society, often use character discrimination in identifying suspects. Unfortunately, the police likely began the investigation with a particular image of the suspect in mind, an image established by the elite members of society whom essentially determine what a deviant is. Regrettably, David Milgaard happened to fit the mold. The stigma that Milgaard would carry for next twenty seven years of his life would be that of a rapist and murderer. The issue with labeling is that Milgaard felt no one would ever look at him in any other way than as a criminal. This was affirmed by the rejection of his final appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada. As a result, Milgaard attempted numerous times to escape prison and commit suicide; he felt as though society had given up on him. Ironically, his escape from prison was his only actual criminal act, but it led to an even greater public perception of his criminality. • 15. The Problem With Social Security Trust Fund The problem with Social Security trust fund is that at the present time there is more credit in the trust fund than is required for payment of Social Security benefits. By 2027 revenue coming into the trust fund will fall below the level of being paid out, and by 2040 the trust fund will be depleted (Quadagno, 2014). Meaning there will be not enough money from payroll taxes to pay all the benefits that are promised to citizens. This puts everyone who is going to enter retirement in jeopardy. Even though everyone has a right to deserve benefits in retirement I feel more people should take control over their own funds. Some of the reasons that this could have happened is because of the aging of the baby boomers. Another reason is because the population growth slowed since 1960 when women decided to have fewer children. The last reason this could have happened is because people are living longer than the old days. The baby boomer generations are beginning retirement, this creates a dramatic amount of people who are needed to use the trust fund. In 1960 there were five workers for every single retiree. By 2025 that ratio will fall to 2.2 (Quadagno, 2014). The problem with this is the policy makers do not know how to solve the problem. The Way Wordsworth and Heaney Present Nature and Rural Life in Their Poetry Born 1770, in Cockermouth, William Wordsworth spent his early life and many of his formative years attending a boys school in Hawkshead, a village in the Lake District. At the age of 17, Wordsworth moved south to study at Saint John s College, University of Cambridge. Within his poetry, Wordsworth contemplates the relationship between nature and human life. He considers his pantheistic beliefs, while realising that nature has many different facets and possesses the power to have spiritual and emotional impacts on the human form. Wordsworth achieves this in his poetry by presenting nature in many different ways. This is shown clearly in the poem, Daffodils where we can see Wordsworth exploring nature as a source of wonderment; he responds and relates himself to the two underlying themes of memory and imagination, on a spiritual level. Throughout the poem, it is clear that his focus was not to merely describe, in the form of a detailed account, how he saw the daffodils and their surroundings, but to consider the ways in which they affected how he felt that day and looking back when he reflects on that experience. It has a wistful and nostalgic tone, with a strong feeling of sentiment. The poem begins with a personal feeling of solitariness and despondency with the opening line, I wandered lonely as a cloud that floats on high o er vales and hills. Wordsworth uses this simile to compare himself to a cloud, which has many implications concerning how Wordsworth was feeling that day. I guess that only applies if you are a straight, white man. A minority is a part of a population differing from others in some characteristics and are often subjected to different treatment. That said, minorities were mistreated and shoved to the back of history. In Aria by Richard Rodriguez the Rodriguez family feel what it means to be a minority in their everyday life. Is he currently earning an economic profit? Why or why not? Amos McCoy is not currently making an economic profit, despite the fact that he is making an accounting profit. (Alternative Measures of Profit) Why is it reasonable to think of normal profit as a type of cost to the firm? Recall that firms produce output using four kinds of resources natural resources, labor, capital, and entrepreneurial ability. The owner of the firm supplies some of the resources that the firm employs. Normal profit is the return to the entrepreneurial ability and other resources supplied by the firm s owners. If this profit is not as large as those individuals could earn in their best alternative situation, they will switch the resources to that alternative. So, we can think of normal profit as being the minimum return, or cost, that is necessary to keep the firm running. 5. (Short Run Versus Long Run) What distinguishes a firm s short run period from its long run period? In the short run, at least one of the firm s resources is fixed, usually the size of the firm. In the long run, all the resources are variable. That is, the quantities of all resources can change to alter the firm s level of output, including the size of the firm. 6. The use of white lead pigment peaked in 1922. While the primary public health concerns were things like tuberculosis and Spanish influenza, the extremely washable lead based paint seemed like a great alternative to germ harboring wallpaper. The technology that enabled community wide screenings for blood lead levels became available in the mid 1960s. The first ban on lead paint The first restriction on the use of lead paint in the U.S. came about in 1951 when the Baltimore Public Health Department issued a ban on its use as interior paint. Since then, the restrictions on the use of lead paint have come a long way. In 1978, paint containing more than .06% lead (in the dry product) was banned for residential use in the United States. Why so much focus on children? If you look through the federal rules concerning lead paint, you will see that the lion s share of defining standards are all about buildings inhabited by children. Sexuality and Desire in Jane Austen s Mansfield Park In a letter to her brother dated 1814, Jane Austen boasted about a compliment she had received from a friend on her most recent work, Mansfield Park: It s the most sensible novel he s ever read (263). Austen prided herself on creating literature that depicted realistic characters and honest situations, but perhaps more importantly, she strove to create fiction that was moral and instructional as well as entertaining. Henry (who I will discuss in greater length momentarily) sees Maria and Julia as conquests, women to be won over just for the sake of doing so. Mary, however, is sincere in her emotions toward Edmund (at least, as sincere as Mary Crawford could ever be), but the combination of Edmund s desire for her and her own seductive nature makes her a precarious character. Perhaps Mary s biggest problem is that she is too knowledgeable for her own good. Her skepticism and cynical attitude often seem out of place at the naïve and sheltered Mansfield Park, particularly when compared to the ideological views of Edmund. Unlike Edmund, who is strikingly ignorant about the matter, Mary becomes preoccupied with understanding Fanny s position in society, and subsequent availability, inquiring, pray, is she out, or is she not? Bradstreet wrote her poems for the sole purpose to pass time, and she had no intention to have them published.
